It's just a bunch of dudes posturing. Except for the one woman. I'm gonna say 2.5 though, cause if I didn't understand English I would have almost enjoyed it.
Despite my southern upbringing, I would like to think I’m not much of a prude. That being said, I find this LP hampered by a lack of maturity and especially a fixation on using bitch whenever possible (to the point where it interrupts some great flows for no reason). Other hip-hop greats like B.I.G. have shown how to do sex-obsessed tracks masterfully, so the juvenile showmanship here just seems lacking in taste.

I've tried to listen to this one objectively over the years but I just can't really get into it. I recognise it as a landmark in hip hop history and see its influence in the music that followed. It obviously has fantastic production and instrumentals. But I can't see past the homophobic, misogynistic, and often just plain immature lyrics all over this thing. Maybe if I had been around at the time or gotten into this when I was younger I would feel differently. Its hard to de-couple Dre and Snoop from the legions of terrible bling era wannabes who followed in their footsteps. If I want to listen to some hip hop from the early 90s, I always turn to something like TCQ, De La Soul, or Queen Latifah over something like this.

I've been confused between the rap and hip hop albums because I'm no expert or historically a fan that I am just ignorant and therefore can't really have a solid opinion. But as the albums have gone on I've really enjoyed certain ones, like NWA Ice Cube and Gang Starr so perhaps I am building up an opinion. Therefore I think I can say with confidence I didn't like this, I can't articulate why but I just didn't. It felt like a bit much..

Pretty disappointed by this. Turns out I'm not a big fan of 'G-funk' - or at least not a whole hour of it (the singles can stay). Shame, as I really like Dre's later production work for himself and Eminem etc. I also think his aggressive vocal style is more suited to that later sound than these more chilled out stoner vibes. It's lucky Snoop is around (a lot more than I realised), as his voice fits the music well and is a bit more more interesting to listen to. I've seen Straight Outta Compton now though so at least I understand all the Jerry Heller and Eazy E disses... Clearly an influential album, but it's a 2.5 rating from me.
Most of this isn't on Spotify anymore, but I listened to what I could. After getting Ice Cube the previous day, the contrast for me is stark. As much as I loved that, this just leaves me cold. Never been a Snoop fan, or a Dre fan particularly. I get what he does and that it is good, it's just not for me. A few decent tracks here but I find I'm appreciating them rather than enjoying them, it's just literally not for me.

3/10. Put off listening to this for over 2 months because it wasn't on Spotify. Can't say I regret putting it off, though there were bits that sounded kinda cool

Well I'm glad that's over. This will be the fifth time that I've mentioned Natual Born Killers, maybe that soundtrack should have been on this list, but either way The Day The Niggaz Took Over has long been a favourite of mine but the rest of this album is not for me. Snoop Dogg is certainly a star on this album.
I enjoyed this more when I was 16. Misogynistic, and bull shit male bravado prevails. No thanks.

As much a Snoop Dogg album as a Dre album. Decent enough but falls short of Ice Cube's debut. The relentless misogyny and "look-at-my-big-dick" lyrics are regrettable and mar an otherwise decent effort.
Eh, this was 70% clown rap and I was wearing insufficiently floppy shoes. 🤡 Managed to get through the whole album, but it felt like a struggle. I definitely prefer East coast gansta rap, it seems - find that more tolerable on the whole. Fave track - "The Day The Niggaz Took Over" - sounded very Cypress Hill...

I love the G-funk genre but not this album. It has moments but is lyrically appalling. Main issue for me is that there isn't a single song on this that I'd want to add to a playlist.
While I can respect the occasional reference to racial history, The Chronic seems a little too gangster in personality when met with over-cleansed ears.
Weirdly easy to work to. Possibly because of the rhythm behind it - it's easy to have it as background music. Possibly not what Dr Dre intended.
Weird. This felt more dated to me than several of the other hip hop records we've listened to that are technically older than this. Not sure why that is - maybe that high pitch synth thing? The lyrics? Both? And why is it that there's such a need in hip hop to make these records so damn long? Get off my lawn, please. Anyway, what I really want to write about is how this album completely transformed my suburban southern high school upon release. I mean, it was insane. Between this and Snoop's first record there was this, seemingly overnight, shift where about 80% of the whitest of white dudes at my school somehow convinced themselves they were gangstas. The clothes. Cars. Posture. Interest in marijuana. All of it completely changed. And then I remember going to Myrtle Beach and seeing some white kid who couldn't have been older than 12 rocking a Philly's blunt tee. Shit was out of hand. Funny, too, how so often grunge and alternative music gets thrown out there as the defining cultural moment of the 90s, when really - that bit only lasted like three years. By '94, everybody who was popular had moved on to West Coast rap and the alternative radio stations were playing Seven Mary Three and Sponge. And, look, I'd rather listen to the Chronic than Seven Mary Three, so it's hard to even blame folks.
Had higher hopes for this but the Chronic fell flat. One dimensional lyrics that push an image but lack much creativity or cohesive message. Solid beats and occasional samples but little depth in the raps or skits.

Niet heel diepgaande en diverse materie dus. Saai en vervelend zelfs.

Como ya he dicho en otras reseñas me gusta el rap/hip-hop de los 90, sin embargo este disco no me ha entusiasmado. A destacar un par de canciones con sonido "creepy" y que me han recordado a Cypress Hill: "The day the niggaz took over" y "A nigga witta gun".
Very mixed on this one- I spent the listening time wrestling between getting very little enjoyment out of it and trying to contextualise it within hip-hop, and what it must have meant for the genre in 1992. I'm not going to try and fault Dre's production or sampling- it is, of course, expertly done. The beats are straightforward and swaggering, the mix sounds glorious on headphones, and the choice of samples gives the record a very congruous feel. Parliament-Funkadelic are all over this record, having a strong bearing on the beginning of G-funk's commercial peak. This is perfectly encapsulated in "Nuthin' but a "G" Thang", which showcases a catchy hook throughout and some really nice sampled backing vocals in the outro. It's where the sound of the record first clicked into place for me, and an obvious choice for lead single. "N**** With A Gun" and "Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat" are my other highlights musically- both strong hooks and really crisp, simple bass parts. “The Roach” (almost) ended the album on a high, melodic note with a “P-Funk” sample vamp. So what didn't work for me? Most obviously the lyrics: bar a couple of solid social commentaries, it's track after track of either violent, sexist outbursts or standard diss-tracks against the other members of NWA. The wordplay or rhymes didn't hit me as much of some of the other hip-hop albums I've already heard on this list, and the humour felt weak and outdated. “The Doctor’s Office" skit, complete with simulated sex scene at the end, really made me cringe, and "bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks" hardly felt like a closing statement for the ages. I've found the length to be a bit of a challenge with several hip-hop albums, and this was no exception. Several tracks towards the end (“High Powered”, ”Stranded on Death Row") just felt a bit forgettable- I can't recall them now after a few listens. “The Chronic” and the gangsta-celebrating world it inhabits isn’t for me, however much I appreciate its impact. Still, at the moment I'm more partial to the bombastic sounds of hip-hop’s golden-age or its moodier, jazzier inflections.

In the spirit of 1001 albums, listened to the whole thing. Would I do that again? Nope, but have at it if you like the idea of juvenile gangsta Beavis and Butt-Head. A reminder to listen to more Snoop.

I can’t do it. THE seminal West Coast gangsta tap album of all time and it’s just wretched to me now. Everything he talks about is offensive, glorifies violence, or is just stupid. I don’t believe Dre when he fronts like this shit is from his experience of the world. I don’t believe anyone who says that this is art representing an unheard minority. It’s misguided pandering to the lowest common denominator. It’s a golden calf of hatred, loss of identity, hopelessness, and flagrant criminality. Gross.
This Gangsta Rap album feels like sitting in a car with a group of guys who keep having the same conversation about women, money, drugs and who is tougher than whom, while the same smooth beat rolls endlessly underneath them. The production is laid-back and polished, with deep bass, funky samples and crisp programmed drums, but the constant use of terms like “bitches” and “niggas” makes the whole atmosphere feel very tied to its early-1990s setting. I can hear the confidence and control in the music, but the language has aged badly for me, making it increasingly difficult to simply sink into the otherwise relaxed groove. The contrast between the sophisticated production and the dated, repetitive subject matter is what defines my experience of the album.
Pointless me reviewing music like this, as I can’t get into it and don’t feel it has anything that resonates lyrically or musically with me. Didn’t make it to the end, which says all you need to know.

Unlike the best examples of the era, it's got nothing of substance to say about politics or society. Everything about this is adolescent nonsense, terribly dated and frankly embarrassing.

Haven't really enjoyed rap as a genre for a while now. The album is unnecessarily profane which also is a bit of a put off
How do I dislike thee? Let me count the ways… 1. It seemed to revolve around the same topics on repeat: - The size of his dick - Gangs and the violence they will perpetrate - Statements about how great he is - Bitches and their qualities His approach to these topics offered no insight or commentary; no use of his platform to further a cause; just vacuous statements. 2. The production itself was uninspiring, with very few memorable beats, samples or hooks. 3. Since there is no melodic aspect to the vocals in this genre of music, you need to either excel in the lyrics or the production. This excels in neither. 4. And almost inevitably Snoop Dogg appears to talk about himself and repeatedly spell his name, like it is something he has just learnt to do, and he is really proud of himself, so he has to do it again and again. 5. This was influential in the very worst possible way, moving away from hip-hop as way of representing an underrepresented voice, towards a vehicle that promoted excess, misogyny and violence.
I get that this a cornerstone in west coast hip hop but I have serious issues with it, particularly the extent to which it perpetuates misogyny like it isn’t an issue. None of the lyrics are particularly clever, and the content is so focussed on smoking weed like it’s a defining lifestyle choice to the detriment of little other social commentary. The samples and beats, whilst iconic in their own way do very little for me (that high pitched synth peppered throughout does my head in). The skits are horrible. As an album, it’s very vibes based and this does not do it for me at all.
I almost didn't make it through this because the whole album uses that fucking keyboard that sounds like the air being released slowly from a balloon.

Album #210 Dr. Dre: The Chronic One of the first rap songs I ever heard was Bitches Ain’t Shit; it was introduced to me by a friend who just couldn’t stop singing it, as he thought it was so hysterical, so I went home and sought it out myself, and what can I say, I thought it was great. That being said, we were both 7 years old, and I can’t speak for my friend, but I think I was over-joking about women only being good for sucking dick by 11. That really sums up the album for me. I’m not elitist when it comes to music, but I really can’t see how self-respecting grown men put shit like this on and feel that it represents them. When you’ve got fools like the NFR podcast going around talking about this album’s lyricism like it’s fucking Blonde on Blonde, I guess I was expecting it to be half decent. But no, you literally have Snoop Dogg singing a ‘deez nuts’ prank call over a gospel and flute; I mean, how the fuck is this not a joke? Ok, so definitely don’t fuck with Dre, especially if you’re Eazy E, or else he’ll fucking kill you, man. He’ll do it; he’s from the streets and dangerous. Snoop will help too because he also loves seeing bodies hit the floor, but oh yeah, that murder trial was a load of bullshit, and they set him up. I think that was all covered in the first song, boys; probably didn’t need to elaborate for another hour. I came away from Doggystyle enjoying it for what it was, and acknowledging the camp of it all, but The Chronic seems to me like they are actually trying to be taken seriously as artists, while simultaneously also being feared, and they fail in both respects horribly. I actually liked Dre as a producer from what I’ve heard from him, but by the tenth track I started to see that his beats were incredibly repetitive and one-note. I really didn’t expect to dislike this album as much as I did, but honestly, outside of being stoned out of your mind, to the point that you can forget you’re an adult with a functioning brain, this album is pretty turgid. At least Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang is a fun track, which prevents it from being a complete flop. Sidenote, but I don’t think an album skit has ever made anyone laugh, and I can’t fathom why they are so popular in hip hop, especially when their albums tend to be bloated already. I wish I had an hour and 6 minutes of my life to know if Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg smoke weed, kill people, and/or fuck women. I really wished they expressed these actions in 4-5 minutes songs with little beat change. How’s this a classic?

Straight up freakin mid track it was wild. Certainly memorable. Akin to that time you get up on stage in front of the school ready to drop some beats in the talent show before your friend pants you cause he was payed 3 bucks and a lollipop to do it. i've never understood the love for gangster hiphop. noting that i didn't finish listening to the entire album, i guess it was a lil catchier than the other hiphop albums i've heard so far? not my style though. bye byeee women beater!!!

My opinion of this is the same as every other time I've been generated a gangster rap album. I think the beats are okay (I will say I've heard better from other albums on here) and I don't like the vulgarity and skits. Also, for a Dr. Dre album, there's significantly less Dr. Dre than there are other guests, especially Snoop Dogg.

Sure maybe this album was important at the time, maybe it was played an important role in modern hip-hop and rap but man, it is bad. The lyrics aren’t great and have aged so poorly, the beats are okay and Snoops features are good but there are definitely better Dr Dre albums.
I can't say that I'm a fan. The violent fantasies presented in these tracks are exhausting to listen to, and not even Snoop Dogg's incredible charisma can sustain my interest through an hour of this album. Dr. Dre's performance here is drowned out by the other artists he features. I'm also so far removed from the culture that this album existed in that the diss tracks don't impress me, since I have no idea who they are talking about. Favorite track: "Stranded on Death Row"

As my Gran used to say. Swearing is not big, its not clever and its not funny. By all means pepper your songs with swearing, but when it gets to the point that most your words are that, they lose any impact whatsoever. I felt from beginning to end that this was just dreadful. And what he did to Parliament's P-Funk was a war crime. Most of all, this album was soulless.
Average middle school hallway experience

Some of the sampling and arranging is groovy and gets your head boppinf that's undeniable. Although it gets pretty repetitive, pretty quickly, and there's not a lot of variation in the musical arrangements, so for that reason, it doesn't really hook me. i haven't read the lyrics sheet yet but if i do i think i'll be disappointed because it sounds like there's a lot of negative topics being discussed in there.. I'm totally out of this world. Probably an album I'd have loved as a bong smoking teenager but it's kind of a parody now to me. When you put this alongside something like the Beastie Boys, it's just childish and surface level elevator music. Sorry. Gangsta, ni--er-, fuck, shit blah blah blah. Is this on this list as an example of how music can be made by anyone, if so it covers the lower end of the spectrum without a doubt.

This album is... oh, well, at least I got to the last song. Because it's the most boring thing I've ever listened to. And probably the worst thing too. I mean, it's so so repetitive and insipid! I may not understand hip-hop (of course, it's a genre I don't like at all), but this album is just so horrible... And, what did I get from this? Really, is there something the least interesting on this album or is it just some uninspired music? Because I'm confused by how bad it is.

I knew Dr. Dre as Eminem's producer, but like all producers, he also wanted to be a good musician and therefore released something under his own name at some point. To cut to the chase: he would have been better off not doing that. It's not for nothing that Dre is known for his beats, but not for his lyrics or his “singing.” Yes, I realize that in the early 90s there was a market for lyrics on the level of pubescent teenagers—but I won't go into that further. What you could expect even back then, however, was a somewhat finished album with some noteworthy output besides the rhythm tracks. What we have here, however, is 62 minutes of backing tracks with, for some inexplicable reason, unedited vulgar conversations between some rather immature guys. This would be my starting point for a list of 1001 albums to avoid until you die.

Should be rereleased as The Chronic {fatigue} because I am SICK and TIRED of all the misogyny in 90s rap. I don't want to hear any more about your dick, or how you belittle women, or the glorification of violence, drugs and money. Obviously this music is of its time, and it was deeply encouraged by the music industry and the audience in the 90s - but I just don't want to listen to this kind of music anymore. Not trying to be woke, just had enough.

Beyond the repetitious beats, the boring recurrence of specific words, the pounding on the same few ideas of pantomime violence and sexism, the thing that is truly chronic about The Chronic is its shallow self-referencing. Plenty of record labels have made mythic brands of themselves, but Deathrow is mentioned so frequently that the whole record feels like an informercial for itself. There is nothing here other than the fact that the record exists and its existence is exhausting. 1 ‘You never been on a ride like this befo' (One of the raps on this album) Such ‘flow’. Such ‘beats’. And from ‘The Streets’. Guns being fired and ‘bitches’ castigated over a few seconds of music on a loop. One hears such wonders and what else can one say? It can only be a Rap album by someone. 1/5

This one wasn't for me. There's not a lot of music that I just, flat out, don't enjoy and gangster rap, for the most part, is one of them. The only redeemable quality for this album was some of Snoop's lines, but the beats weren't there and every time Dre spoke I wanted to shut it off.

I think I just going to copy my review of Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg from a few days ago because it’s still applicable here: I really dig the beats and overall production on this album, but once again, I just can’t stand the rapping or the lyrics. It’s just standard gangsta rap cliches; drugs, bitches, mfers, n***as, and blatant misogyny. Maybe I’m just grumpy because I’m on a string of bad albums and this is the fourth hip-hop album I’ve had in a week. Ok, the flute solo on Lil Ghetto Boy was pretty sweet. Fucking hell, I almost shut it off during the Doctor’s Office.
Not good. Too much of Snoop spelling his name; I'm glad he can, we all can and he doesn't need to prove he can. Several stupid skits or things that could be classified as skits, like pretty much every rap album I've heard. I'll never return to this and wish I never heard it to begin with. 1/5

Just what I wanted today - another hip hop album full of misogyny, homophobia, glorification of violence, shitty electronic beats, and music stolen from other artists. I get that this is sort of a cultural cornerstone but that doesn't make it good. I think that makes the whole situation unfortunate. There are much better ways to promote African Americans and the amazing culture they share. We don't need Dr. Dre to tell everyone it's cool to assault women and kill people. I have to wonder if this music actually originated from an intention of just shock value. 0/5 but that's not an option.

This album has been sat in my in tray for nearly a month, like a tricky administrative form I don't quite have the mental stamina to work my way through. I think I can appreciate the beats here. The sounds, the rhythms. Let Me Ride is a great example of this. Or Stranded on Death Row. There is intricacy and feeling, and a lot of work has been put in to this. This album also helps open up for me a lot of 1990s culture and understand a bit more the music I was seeing but not really listening to as I grew up. But so many of the songs sort of blend into each other in a giant cacophony of rap noise. The skits are terrible. And the moral footprint is dubious. Fundamentally, do I ever want to hear any part of this album ever again? The answer is no, and so I can't give this album any higher than the lowest score possible.

I don't like when art is used to spread hate towards anyone. I've listened to this when I was younger, and less able to challenge certain views. But yeah, with older ears, the only enjoyable part of this album are the beats. The lyrics are trash, and haven't aged well at all.

The Chronic is the prime example of everything that I hate about rap music. It’s just a monotonous slog of the most typical gangster rap to exist; nothing but rapping about sex and your dick. There’s not really a message, outside of maybe The Day The N****s Took Over (obviously about the LA Riots given the year this was released), but even then it feels shallow as fuck. Honestly, Rage Against the Machine did it better with Killing In The Name of, and a good chunk of that song is literally repeating “Fuck You, I won’t do what you tell me”. Outside of that, nothing but rapping about violence and sex and whatever without really a point. To be honest, it’s not really the lyrical content that gets to me, it’s just not anything special given it’s reputation. Outside of pretty being Snoop Dogg’s platform to his own success, what the fuck about this album makes it iconic? The production’s nice, I guess, but what else? The amount of circle-jerking to Death Row? The terrible skits? (I was going to be a little generous with this album, but after The $20 Sack Pyramid, my generosity took a holiday) I figured maybe a one star might be too harsh and thought at least a two, but then I realized… I don’t want to listen to anything from this album again. There are no songs that I can take that I really enjoyed. Maybe Little Ghetto Boy, and I remember hearing Nuthin’ But A “G”Thang, but like, I’m not crazy for them. There’s much better rap out there that made as much as an impact that are miles better than this. Hopefully some that don’t use the n word like a crutch. I am not a fan of swaggering, misogyny, or glorifying violence. Three songs on the album did not include those noxious themes. They were okay to hear, but musically forgettable and I wouldn’t ever listen to them again.
Another one from the gangsta rap genre, with all the customary ick, but at least it has the pervasive presence of Snoop as a bright spot.

Not Adding to my Playlist - The Chronic (Intro), Fuck wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’), The $20 Sack Pyramid (Skit), Lyrical Gangbang, High Powered, The Doctor’s Office (Skit), Stranded on Death Row, and The Roach (The Chronic Outro). All in all I liked 8/16 songs. This wasn’t that bad but it was a pretty big disappointment for one of the most acclaimed artists of all time.

Ni**a, Mutha F##ker, Dick these guys have a serious vocabulary deficiency! I suffered through this lp even though it’s very difficult for me to hear the N word in any context. The music was better than most other rap albums I’ve been exposed to but spoiled by the foul language and misogyny of the lyrics. I hope these guys have all reformed themselves and don’t get caught up in the P-Diddy horrifics!

One thing which really pisses me off when walking through most cities is the sound of gangster rap being inflicted on me by cool kids cruising through the streets pounding out from expensive speakers fitted in blacked out BMW’s. Reading through the reviews it would seem that this album is responsible for that reprehensible behaviour. So for that alone I condemn this album to the shitter. But if that was not bad enough how on earth have we arrived at a place in musical history when singing? (rapping? whatever) about one’s cock, shooting people and gross sexual deviance is considered normal and to lots of people to be valued? How ever bad your upbringing was or is I don’t want to be bombarded with this music which as far as I can see is telling the world or making excuses why you have turned out as you have. My life hasn’t exactly been easy and for that reason I sought out music to enhance my well being or be soothing. A momentary break from the chores of life. I don’t need this type of music in my life reminding me all the misery out there. I feel sorry for anyone wanting this music in their life. Yeah, this is a million, billion trillion percent not for me. It's hard to want to listen to this when that one frequency is constantly piercing through my eardrums and violating the innermost depths of my soul. Rather than bitching and moaning, I think I'll make this review as pasty as possible. It's hard to say with certainty since the game's from Japan, but I'm dead sure that "Imprinting" from The World Ends With You (https://youtu.be/sYHtqyJirgU&t=58) borrows the chorus from A Nigga Witta Gun but alters the lyrics to be less vulgar. Funny that they would choose this album of all things. I wouldn't say that this tidbit of trivia justifies the listen, but it's definitely a silver lining to know more about one of my favourite works of fiction.

Oh, boy... we finally made it. The artist that every rapper name-drops in every one of their tracks since the early 90s. This guy better freakin' blow everyone else out of the water. After listening to this album in full, I can safely say that Dr. Dre fits in snugly with the rest of the 90s hip-hop crew. The percussion is consistently very bad, using low-quality, poorly produced loops that add little to the overall sound. The synths are a coin flip on each song, with their timbre being either fair or ear-piercingly terrible (see: the first three tracks). And the vocals... Dr. Dre's voice is so incredibly hip-hop-generic that the music is much better when you tune him out completely. And thankfully, it's not too hard to do that. Once you do, you realise nearly every track is completely devoid of anything interesting – with the exception of the quasi-outro The Roach, whose instrumental is actually kind of fire. Nice brass-synth interaction going on there. Decent riffs are spread here and there throughout the album, including on Fuck Wit Dre Day, High Powered, and A Nerd Witta Gun – but for the most part, there's nothing of value to glean here. Then we get to the lyrics. Huh... There's a ton of swearing, misogyny, sex noises, pretty much the usual fare for 90s hip-hop music. But the lyrics of Bitches Ain't Shit are a new level of heinous. It might have been partially because the vocal enunciation was more brash and unique-sounding, so I had to pay attention to it. Check out the poetic lyricism in the chorus: "Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks Lick on deez nutz and suck the dick Get's the fuck out after you're done And I hops in my ride to make a quick run" ...Yeah. That's what we're dealing with here. I can't justify anything higher than a 1. I didn't have the heart to sift through the lyrics to the other tracks, so I'm relying on another reviewer's opinion here: "The subject matter barely moves beyond smoking, macking, hoes, fronting and general gangsta BS... this album just has nothing to say." I can respect the cultural and historical significance it brought to gangsta rap in terms of what it represented before the "Bling" era. But good lord, between the long outros, annoying and obnoxious sound clips, and "interesting" interludes, this album was a pain to sit through. The production quality is solid, but I hate just about everything else on this album. I'm fine with loud and rambunctious music, but the songs on this just came off as annoying more than anything else. I don't care about the vulgarity that plagues this record, but I start to care when it feels like it takes up half your lyrics and has no real message or substance behind it. Despite what this album represents and the influence it brought, it's not all that good content-wise. Plus, it aged quite poorly. Whatever this is, this ain't it chief.

I really tried hard to find something great about this album. Dr Dre is known to be a fantastic producer. And perhaps it show son this record... But I honestly can't get past his 1 trick raps. I've never heard this record in its entirety. I'm familiar with 2001 and that album and this album almost could be double records. The same content. Almost the same guest rappers. The lyrical content is very dated... It reminds of all the white kids in high school who thought they were gangster. When they lived in low crime neighbourhoods and raised by proper loving parents. There is nothing gangster or ghetto about their upbringing. Which is a shame that this record reminds me of that. But ultimately it displays a sense of immaturity and poorly written raps. I almost could say this is equally a Snoop Dogg Record as he is on 90 per cent of this record. Dres raps are shit. It's basically tough guy gangster rap meets 80s flow. How many times do they have to rap about their record label? Or DOCs? Or pulling triggers? It's the same shit over and over.... Dre is probably so happy l he chose a name Like Dre because he can rhymr a lot of one to two syllable words with it. Chronically disappointing.
While there are some musically outstanding tracks on here, I give it it's well deserved one to ZERO stars for all the hate, homophobia and misogyny it introduced to the world, without even listening to it again.
