Reviews (page 11 of 12)
I enjoyed it. The best moments are when you can really get the excitement of the atmosphere due to Waters' charisma. However, that is sometimes rare like in the middle of the album when the tunes just sorta lack enthusiasm. Overall though, an enjoyable, if brief, live blues record from a leading artist. A decent record.
Great for blues, but blues just ain’t my bag babyl I’ll give it the respect it deserves but can’t go much higher…. 3/5
Like the other ones, it's a decent album for education purposes but that's about it
Another seed from which many sounds sprang forth.
Not a huge blues guy, but I liked this well enough.
3.5/5
a good blues set.
6/10
Jazz from Newport?
Jazzy good time, love a good live album
This entire album is straight-up classic blues, which is good and bad. For the genre, it's pretty good, I would say. On the other hand, there isn't a lot of diversity, neither within songs nor across the album. I love blues (and early jazz), but I don't think this album is quite killing it enough to go higher than a 3.
Decent old blues. Nothing mindblowing but pretty solid. 3/5.
not bad first song was boring second was a good bit better third one I like fourth is a bit slow but not bad I'm liking the fifth it's fun but repetitive sixth is exactly what I was expecting and wanting out of this album and the blend of blues and jazz is great the one after is a part 2 of the sixth and it's still good but not perfect I'm bored now so I'll stop
Interesting, not something I'd have on all day but I enjoyed a good bit of it
Yeah this was great.
It’s all right but the blues bore me.
Probably wouldn't listen to it again
When I first saw the cover of this album I wondered why the Muddy Waters album had a picture of Mahershala Ali on it. Was this the soundtrack to a Muddy Waters biopic? Apparently not, but I'm also not the first person online to see the resemblance and fancast Ali to play Waters. This is a good blues album.
I like the blues and Muddy Waters is one of the masters, but this album is filled with standard average stuff. Hoochie Coochie Man and I Feel So Good standout. The rest, not so much. The recording is not great quality and doesn’t help either.
3 good stuff. Gets a little monotonus though.
I’am not overly a fan of live albums on the generator/ book it kinda takes up way too much space also (while I like the bluesier side of rock) blues isn’t my kinda thing. That being said though it is a genuinely decent album to be honest all of the songs were well written and he sounds great live probably 3/5 for my personal tastes but people who like this kinda thing more should really check it out.
Extremely solid blues album perfect to start your day to Best song: hoochie coochie man Worst song: no stand out slumps in the album
Kinda blown away by the recording quality. It was good but not super memorable to me. Will definitely revisit later, though, when I'm looking for a change of pace! Standouts: I've Got My Mojo Working
Turns out I like live albums
Good stuff, altough not sure I would choose it
Ok. Wasn't a big difference between songs.
Not bad, but not my genre. Not sure I'll relisten
Very good music but not my favorite genre
Newport has a great build. I was shocked at the acclaim for what starts as fairly straightforward blues tunage. The energy dials up first, then there's an electric murmur in Tiger, and finally a few scorchers finish off the set. But while I like it, the patter is quite dated and the album is shorter and flatter than expected. The hype hasn't grabbed me yet.
It’s fine.
Good stuff, just not sure I'd ever listen to again
I love his feel. Rhythmically it's a lot of fun. I can't not groove along while it's playing. I wish there were a few more jams and solos like those in Got My Mojo Working 1, because outside of that, everything is a bit too familiar these days to enjoy.
Good old-fashioned blues album. Would listen in the background again.
Certainly solid blues, but i don't love anything that presented here.
Even though I'm not a Blues guy, I have to acknowledge his massive influence on the rockers. The likes of Led Zep, the Stones and even Jimi Hendrix basically electrified his sound to create 60s rock music.
Bluesy
Liked it alright, but nothing amazing. I just generally am bored by blues.
Fine live blues. Got a little samey after a while.
An energetic live performance from one of the legends of blues guitar. It's a bit on the short side, but it still is absolutely smoking.
Bluesy, good live
This is a good blues album but nothing spectacular about it.
Bareboned blues. Great musicians, basic lyrics as expected.
The jazz sounds good but the actual singing just sounds like the same words over and over.
legit old school blues 3.5
Too polite. Missing some grit
Not sure
I'm not big on blues, but this is pretty good. Interesting that the Rolling Stones took their name from Muddy Waters' song "Rollin' Stone." That one's not on this album, but I'll have to give it a listen.
More boring than I was expecting
I really liked this and can see why Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Keith Richards did, too.
I like to think I like the Blues but this was a bit hit and miss for me. This chart seems to lean heavily on LIVE albums as being a cut above studio albums (especially from the 60's) but I just don't agree with that viewpoint. The tracks are pretty well known enough but whether it's the live performance aspect there seems to be a lack of raw emotion from Muddy. He seems to almost rush through the whole concert so he can go home (which would be understandable since there was a riot the night before). The tracks veer from slower numbers to more dancey tunes and he ends up singing the same song twice near the end. The last track is the best- and that's not even Muddy because he'd ducked out at that point. Having said all that it's still a great album from one of the greatest.
jazz club niicccceeee
Live album, I didn't have any strong opinions about it.
It was great to hear some live blues on here. You can really see the influence Muddy Waters had on generations of musicians!
All a bit samey
It was pleasant enough but I don't think I could distinguish it from any other blues
Great blues/jazz leadoff this week. Muddy Waters certainly the best of the era
Good stuff. Solid live album.
Not as good as the other one.
A delightful bluesy treat
Always got time for a little Muddy Waters. I can't say I've ever heard a live show where they play the same song back-to-back, though. Granted, 'I've Got My Mojo Working' is a tune but it stills seems a little unnecessary.
The variety of this album is staggering. The leaps of one song being psy-trance to the next being Death Metal to a smooth synthwave number do an electroclash ditty. Muddy Waters does it all here. Not really. Just a great live blues set. I mean, what else would it be? Best Tracks: I Got My Brand On You; Baby, Please Don't Go; I've Got My Mojo Working
A few well-known and now classic tracks covered by many others. However, it doesn't have the excitement of the BB King live concert that was also showcased here a few weeks ago. Low 3.
It's fine as far as old school blues goes.
Decent, but I'm getting a bit bored of blues/folk live albums.
Pretty sound stuff, just didn't fit the mood of the day when listening to it. Hard to dislike though.
This was fine, pleasant enough to listen to (although I didn't think there was any need for two parts to the Mojo song), but not spectacular. Tiger in Your Tank and Soon Forgotten are the highlights. 3/5.
First few songs were slappers
blues de primeira. Got my mojo working
I expected this to be better than it was. Have heard that Muddy Waters is a legend and pioneer with wide reaching musical influence. Thought I would be blown away. Not bad, but not incredible either.
I have not heard this yet, looking forward to it. Upon first listen it’s a pretty good recording for a live show from 1960. This obviously influenced all of the British invasion bands, more than half the songs have been covered by the Stones, Zepplin, The Who, etc. and while it’s not terrible, It’s not my cup of tea.
not my genre but some hit of jazz punk like blurt will fit in bruh
I'm not a big blues fan but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's repetitive for me as, again, not a big blues fan, but it was solid.
I love Muddy Waters, but it's really hard for me to "judge" albums like this. In truth, a live blues album from 1960 doesn't sound much different that a studio blues album (outside of the people clapping in between). And, the performance is solid - but I'm not sure it's special in relation to other Muddy Waters albums, or even other blues musicians. Blues is good. Muddy Waters is good at the blues. Good job.
Probably great if you like blues but this wasn't for me
The blues is the blues. I like it, I can't figure out how to love it
It was enjoyable.
Some classics on here.
Not my jam
Blues standard
This is better than the other Muddy Waters I've heard, but the problem with Chicago blues is that it all basically sounds the same. There hasn't been any innovation in the genre since it left the Delta almost a hundred years ago, and that's painfully obvious here.
great stuff!
Clear influence but it just hasn’t aged well for me. I just wanted it to move me more.
It was blues, enjoyed the live aspect.
I don't think blues is for me but still pretty interesting to listen to.
No suena mal. I've got my mojo working".
Easy to listen to, it's over before you know it, might need more listens in the future
Yup, that’s a jazz album
Jazz, though lyrics get a bit too repetitive on some of the songs.
Down voted on principle of being a live album
Pretty cool overall, love the blues
Vrolijk jazzalbum. Leuk om eens naar te luisteren
Pretty good
Me ha aturdido un poco 3. Blues.
7,0/10
// Favs: – Score: Decent to Strong 3
Also a 3.5
Fun and classy!
Don't think i've ever sat and listened to Muddy Waters properly. I like this sort of blues. Live album and it sounded like a good night
blucito coquetón, chido aunque algo enfadosón
At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters (1960) Muddy Waters, the Mississippi blues guitarist/vocalist par excellence, performed this set live at the Newport Jazz Festival in July 1960. “Live” means the listener must filter out crowd commotion, off-beat hand claps, mic stand rumbles, wind noise, and other sundry distractions, but as live albums go, it’s not too bad. On this recording, we are treated primarily to Waters’ blues vocals and ‘compositions’ (primarily his, but also some by Willie Dixon and others—even Langston Hughes gets in on the act). It should be noted that these songs are characterized by significant melodic and lyrical borrowing from traditional Deep South blues. The performance reflects the evolving quality of blues music by 1960. It is both nostalgic and evocative, clearly demonstrating what it was that made such an impression on the next generation of popular music makers. That in itself is one of the most valuable aspects of this album. Muddy Waters’ voice is well suited for the temper of the blues. It has an authenticity that translates the mostly masculine emotions in relatable topical settings. In singing these songs, Muddy Waters occasionally drops the meter, requiring the band to add extra beats (e.g. “I Got My Brand On You” at 1:04), but the ensemble seems so used to this that they're able to work through it flawlessly. That’s what bluesmen do. Also, At Newport 1960 unfortunately hides the guitar in the mix. If you really want to hear a mature Muddy Waters on lead guitar, listen to After The Rain (1969), tracks 3, 5, 6, and 8. (By 1969, of course, he had been surpassed in his blues guitar skills by many of those he had influenced early on, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Johnny Winter, Duane Allman, and a host of others.) But we have to strain to hear his skills on this album. But if you really, really want to hear the genius of Muddy Waters as a guitarist, you must listen to The Complete Plantation Recordings: The Historic 1941-1942 Library of Congress Field Recordings (Chess Records release, 1993). This album, with its fascinating interviews, would be a much better choice for 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (if it’s not already included). If the mood in the live performance At Newport 1960 seems subdued, it might be related to the fact that Ray Charles’ set the previous evening was disrupted by a drunken riot prompting a police response that included: (1) water hoses, (2) tear gas, and (3) the calling of the National Guard, (4) the Marines and (5) the U.S. Navy Shore Patrol, with 200 arrests and 160 injured. Seriously. This was Newport Rhode Island, folks. Somebody besides Muddy Waters had his mojo workin’. If for no other reason than its historical significance, this record is well worth a listen. 3/5
if you like it you like it
Schwingin
Nice blues
Could do with listening to it a bit more, but enjoyed it. You can really hear that that whole style really started with him..
Sounds like a half melted bin lid bravely battling against a ferocious inferno. It doesn't really, but that's what I'm going with. If it was a footballer, it'd be Dwight Yorke.
songs are quit simpel but muddy waters performance is sublime
Nice feel-good blues, a bit repetitive for my taste
Not bad...hooch coochy etc
I really enjoy good blues music. I should listen to it more. 3.5 stars.
Solid jazz album. 0RS
Good blues, a bit to slow to be perfect
blusey
Blues. Was a nice listen
a classic blues album, its ok
It’s very traditional blues. Didn’t listen through all the way. Kinda weird hearing a live concert and being pretty sure that everybody who was there that night has since passed away.
Really liked this album…..
Fine. A little slow. Im sure its influential but its dry and dated.
Nice classic blues, but I gravitate towards electric guitar blues.
:) Pleasant to the ears, can allow me to concentrate in what I am doing, not that captivating, but not everything has to be :)
Surprised by my response to this. After the last blues based snoozer I was cynical. But surprisingly found myself to enjoy this quite a bit. You can see the roots of rock and hear a few covers. It seems like a show I would’ve enjoyed watching. The up tempo brightness in “I’ve Got My Mojo Workin’” was what put it over the top for me. (And it turned out it was only 9 songs, and the last 4 were bonus track versions of the same songs). 3 or 4.
The waters are getting muddy and I'm digging it. More enjoyable album than the first this website served up. Though nowhere near as exciting as that track Matt texted us.
Production: 12/20 Songwriting: 13/20 Innovation: 10/20 Bangers: 10/20 Emotional response: 14/20 =59 Oooh I really liked it and at 59 it’s only one mark off a 4 but I can’t fuck with the system!!!
A period example of authentic old school soul food blues. Not sure if the live-ness adds any magic to this album.
Like it - but the live 'big band' blues sound takes some of the edge out of the music.
If I were a big blues fan, this would be it. But I’m not. So take that as you may.
good songs with a nice melody and very nice instrumentals.
The sounds of Hendrix and Led Zeppelin in prototype form.
Enjoyed listening to this. Captures the live energy. Cool to think this is a pioneer of a sound that is now so familiar. +Faves:-Baby Please Don't Go-I've Got My Mojo Working. +Least fave:-Goodbye Newport Blues.
3-4(already listened)
I was very hesitant to listen to this album because the title suggests it is a live album. Sure enough it was one and I just don't subscribe to the idea that these live albums should be on this list. I feel like for any live album the review is basically "this is a live album...they are performing songs from another album, just live". I'll leave my review at that (don't get me wrong, Muddy Waters kicks Who's ass).
Really catchy, raw Blues.
4
Generally enjoy blues, and this was fine. But rather samey!! I reckon this is music you have to listen to live to get the real experience
Hoochie coochie man and I’ve got my mojo working are faves
Love Blues, this is a great live album.
Iconic sound, but repetitive songs.
Lovely listen
Very much enjoyed
Nice !
Fun love blues/jazz with an old recording feel.
I enjoyed this album. Some great tracks
old blues . noice
I love Muddy Waters but this album didn't do it for me.
blue abt the blues ... not my cup of tea
Really liked the faster songs
Quite country, but still very enjoyable.
Klassisk amerikansk blues, live, stemningsfyldt, klaversoloer, mundharmonika
Great live blues from the legendary master. There is a lot of excitement in the crowd, but it takes a few tracks before Waters feels their love...then it all breaks loose.
Straight up classic delta blues!
I'm sure this is classic, it's just not for me.
this was fine but did nothing for me
Probably closer to a 2.5. Not bad for a live album but nothing I would come back to.
Totally ripped off the Sinners soundtrack
Jazz rockero. No mi favorito, pero no está mal
Just can't get into the blues.
Hmmm, well, there's a Punjabi friend of mine who is often funny and dismissive about the basic-bitchness of European or white people food as compared to the wide world of subcontinental spice mixes, preparations, blooming the flavours, etc. – "It's not food, it's the ingredients of food." That's a bit how I feel about the blues? It's music – this is not meant to be an edgy take – but sometimes it feels more like the ingredients of music? Muddy W is fucking great at it and so it has a nice purity, as opposed to some of the very florid blooze men who feel like they're singing nursery rhymes or "Happy Birthday" or some other very inert thing. Nevertheless, my ears don't know how to hear stuff about "got my mojo working'" and "I'm yer hoochie koochie man" except very post-post-post-post-modernly.
meh not my cup of tea… some good jams but repetitive and boring
Not my cup of tea
"The album was an important influence on the emerging younger white blues scenes"? What if I don't like those either?
Repetitive
i knew i'd eventually come across an album i didn't like but i didn't know it'd happen so soon lol. not that these were bad songs, i just really didn't resonate with any of them at all. i honestly can't pinpoint which song is which because none of them stand out to me very much. anyway i think this genre just isn't for me, still a fine record though :)
Okay
It was a-ight. I lack the depth to appreciate it more.
Ok, wouldn’t listen to it again. Not my type of music
I give muddy himself 5 stars for his musicianship. I just can't do blues albums anymore, so samey the whole time
that type of black music is really enjoyable when u are in mood of it, yesterday i wasn't ready for that, im so sorry, next days i'll try to listen it carefully and have a unbreakable opinion about it. :)
Not really the mood, was good but didn't hit
Nothing wrong with this at all but the blues ain’t my bag.
Too repetitive for me, nothing new in any song or during the song
nice and chill.
One song was just Mannish Boy with diff lyrics. It was fine nothing stood out and I don’t love live albums so far.
fun
??
Ok
Didnt like this as much as I wanted to
Not really my style tbh. Found it a bit repetitive
I knew this wouldn’t be for me when it popped up. Obviously Muddy Waters is very talented, but there just wasn’t enough to get me going.
Buenos instrumentales. Pero no es mi onda.
cant say i loved it
Ugh, another live album from another artist that I don't really like. I know Muddy Waters is a legend and all that, but his music just ain't for me.
Baby please don’t go I got my brand on you Soon forgotten
OK
It was a bad time for me and this album to meet
Album Review 089 At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters (1960) Rating 2/5 Whilst there is no argument of its cultural importance and relevance at the time, 60+ years on 12-bar blues is to me one or the most formulaic and tiresome genres of music: I-IV-V, I-IV-V, I-IV-V, Zzzzzz…. Yeah, Muddy delivers with some grit in his vocals and his band are superbly tight, but ultimately it’s the same song ten times over, with the only changes being tempo and whether he has / has lost / is chasing a woman.
Eh
it was fine! the instrumentals were lovely but some of it felt repetitive. 2 or 2.5/5, depending.
I personally hated it. I thought it was needlessly repetitive and had very little distinction between songs. However, it is not objectively bad.
I don't love live music albums
I'm not a big fan of live albums in general - live music is incredible to experience, however to just listen I'd prefer to hear the original recordings. I'm not a huge blues fan either, although I really dug the previous Muddy Waters offering. This one is a bit more samey to me.
I liked this but would need specific mood to replay 2
If you like blues, I'm sure its great. Muddy Waters is cool, and the live aspect of the album actually adds something in this case, but its all a bit same-old, same-old: I got my tiger in your meanest woman, soon forgotten
Kind of okay. It’s not really my genre, sorry to say. Fun if I wanted to cosplay as someone sitting in a dive bar.
Loweky tempo is throwing me off so bad, but it is like so 1960 and that is not a bad thing. It has a lot of personality, not particularly my liking though.
An impressive recording technically (Waters' voice sounds great and the band are tight), but the songs didn't really do anything for me.
Not v memorable
Again can appreciate it’s good but just not my vibe
good, kinda repetitive
redundant but still a classic, i reckon
I ain’t dipping into these waters!
Jazz is pretty boring in my opinion... Half of the album is just the same songs (and no, I don't mean a B-side).
I recognize the impact of this album and its influence, however it is not a kind of music I enjoy, personally
Chicago blues. Ukjent territorie for meg. Top 3: I’ve Got My Mojo Working, I Got My Brand On You, Tiger In Your Tank
i understand it but not for me
Uninteresting
Blues is hit or miss for me. I think this kinda misses
Of the live jazz albums we've had so far, this was my least favorite. Still not bad though. Feels more bluesy.
i don't know what itch i need to have for live blues to scratch it but right now i don't got it. Tiger In Your Tank is a pretty catchy tune
When to listen: Feeling bluesy. I know Muddy Waters can do more emotive blues, the kind that makes you want to get up and dance. That wasn't this album for me. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be?
Solid MW blues album. If that’s your thing. 2.75
Really cool but just hard to get into.
I don't think this is my kind of music. Nevertheless, I do think that Muddy Waters is a good performer and vocalist. I did also enjoy the implementation of the harmonica and e-guitar. I'd say that my favourite tracks would be “I've got my mojo working“, I especially liked the element of call and response in that song. Still, I found the songs sounded all pretty much alike, but that is probably because I haven't listened to a lot of blues in my lifetime. I don't think I will be coming back to this, but I'm glad I have heard this album and can definetly hear Muddy Waters influence in a lot of future musicians
Not too great
Would score higher if we had just one song. But all the songs of the album are very redundant.
Good blues. But 1 star deduction since it's a live album.
2.5/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/muddy-waters/muddy-waters-at-newport-1960/ Really not my thing. Truly believe it's very influential, but don't really care about this.
listened to the first two songs kinda funky but not really my thing
kinda annoying
i mean it must be great if you like this because it's all very much of the same. a lot of the songs were just too slow for me - really made it feel like it was dragging on
i’m not a fan of jazz
He's got his mojo working or smth
Whack.
Jazz forica
eh not my cup of tea not a fan of live albums but it’s okay
I'm not educated on the blues but I just feel there's better out there.
very groovy and nice to listen to faves: tiger in your tank
i like some of these very much but not fully my vibe
I was not too crazy about it
Very influential and a beautiful album cover. I found it boring compared to his 70s album on here. I think it’s because this one has the essential building blocks you’ve heard copied everywhere in music so the effect is lost on me here. Rating: 2.4
I know this guy is highly influential and very good at what he does but I just don’t like this type of blues. Part of it is because I really like melody and I don’t find much of that in classic blues. I don’t rate my album according to importance but instead on how much I enjoyed it.
this is the same song over and over again, with a fun beat and nonsense lyrics. Probably a lot more fun live.
I would normally give most blues a 1 but I like Muddy's voices
I don’t like live albums.
All sounds the same to me
One of those cases where the stuff influenced is better than the original.
From a modern listening perspective, I didn’t really enjoy it. The live recording sounds loud and chaotic, a lot of the songs start to feel repetitive, and if you ignore the historical importance, there isn’t much that truly stands out to me.
High 2 Any song on here is great. As a collective theyre extremely samey
I don't enjoy this genre, every song sounds the same to me. 1,5/5
Did not enjoy but wasn’t actively heinous
Same song syndrome strikes again
Good album, I can appreciate it, nor really my thing though.
Good stuff.
I wouldnt be upset to hear this in a coffee shop or a cocktail bar (a dimly lit one). But im probs nor gonna seek it out. TWO!
2 stars I know it’s revolutionary and influenced everything after it. But cmon, it all sounded the same and was not very interesting. I won’t ever put this on again. But I’m glad it existed when it did so music could become more interesting.
There are like 4 lyrics in this 44-minute album. The repetitiveness of it really annoyed me after a while. Again, I can appreciate what Mr. Waters is doing, and understand the influence his music has had on generations after him, but I don't like it.
Would have been amazing to be there! But of course music must evolve, and this is just a bit boring now
I don't really like the blues. I said I don't really like the blues. I don't really like the blues.
This was a grand old blues album. I'm sure it's incredibly important to the history of rock music but I thought it was just fine! Not my kind of blues but fun and easy to listen to.
Bluesy. I'm a little picky with my blues music though, and muddy doesn't really hit for me. Respect the greats and all, but this is not entering my rotation.
The return of Muddy Waters, aye? It's only been 18 albums since I listened to Hard Again and I'm already bidding farewell to this guy's discography. The aforementioned Hard Again didn't do much to woo me - it's beyond my sphere of interest, though I appreciated it for being an interesting late-career pick and an album where the vocals were well-suited to the music. Truth be told, it isn't looking up for Muddy on this second outing as I find it immensely difficult to get into live albums ("At Folsom Prison" and "At Budokan" are the albums to have deviated from this rule). In any case, I'm never above going into an album with an open mind. Man, this is one of those early, early albums. #29 if we're going by chronological order. The last one of these that I got was The Genius of Ray Charles, if I'm remembering correctly. Anyways, this is fine. I find it pretty hard to feel one way or another about blues - it's one of those genres which falls right down the middle for me (albeit teetering slightly into "boring" territory). The live component adds a bit of a novelty value to this music, though I was hoping Muddy Waters' charisma would be channeled through the music a little more. "I Got My Brand On You" is a solid opener. I like Muddy's vocals, and the very bluesy guitar in the background isn't half bad. "Tiger In Your Tank" is a good enough time. I like the lively percussion as well as that good piano number. Muddy has a bit of a sauntering quality going on with his voice, which is also nice. "I've Got My Mojo Working" has a cool, free-wheeling sound. I like the punchy instrumental as well as those charismatic vocals. Book time. Broadened the appeal of live blues music. "...live blues at its best". A consistent seller. Wikipedia reveals that this album was critically acclaimed and has had an influence in the creation of hard rock. There isn't too much going for this album (none of the early ones have much going on, admittedly), though I'm generally favourable to pre-historic albums being included on the list. I think they're interesting when looked at through a historical lens rather than a merit one. I cosign this inclusion.
Unc music
This was fun. Not something I would regularly return to, but not a bad jazz albums. The live aspect was fun, and I really enjoyed how the songs were shorter and they got in and out of them. Actual rating....2.5. Liked Songs: "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man" , "Baby, Please Don't Go" , "Tiger In Your Tank" , "I've Got My Mojo Working"
To be honest, I wasn't too impressed. I get that Muddy Waters is a blues legend and all, but the band sounds very loose and unrehearsed, and it just isn't a compelling performance or album.
Another live album, eugh. Fine, not my thing, not an artist I enjoy, but performed well
All I can think of this: https://youtu.be/1PvJNbdPqSA?si=86r5EBMZs44UVhRC (6/10, 3/5 on this scale) (Update: 2/5 now)
I'm sure it's excellent, but the blues all sounds basically the same to me.
Not big on the blues, unfortunately. I understand its influence and importance, but everything sounds similar and I get bored. Uneducated, I guess
Best ones are Ive got my Mojo working and Tiger In your tank and soon forgotten I love the live versions bc u can hear people going absolutely bonkers
(2) guys i love jazz but im not the biggest fan 😔😔
I’ve listened to Muddy before, and I’m not convinced his stuff works in an album format. There’s not quite enough of a narrative thread, and not enough variation to keep my attention. His guitar playing is fantastic though, and it doesn’t stop me from wanting to BE there. His stage presence is phenomenal.
Average blues sound, nothing exceptional
Not my style tbh
Classical blues album, of course wonderful music, but not my kind of music.
Blues legend but not the best live/studio hybrid recording
Okay for a few tracks but not really my thing.
Unfortunately I'm not much of a blues person.
Recording and mixing is SO good for a live album. You know me, Luke, I'm not a blues man. But this is pretty nice.
I have no Idea from blues. It sounds very important and authentic. But that ist Not really my genre. Sorry for only two stars
Not my cup of tea
Hypocritical to give this a 2* and Elvis' first album 5*? Yes. But fuck it, not in the mood for tutti frutti shite today. Sorry.
can’t get into blues, sorry
Not my thing, but I appreciate it. 2/5 stars.
Muddy Waters is an all time great but I just wasn't feeling this album. There wasn't much "edge" to it.
