It was fine.

If you like country music, you'll love this. Emphasis on "if".

I’m not really a country fan so this isn’t for me unfortunately.

Boring guff Not my thing We had it all is okay, opening track good. The rest of it means nothing to me. Either 1 or 2 out of 5. Will never listen to this again.

At least it was short. Damn was it boring. I mean, I prefer this sort of country more than modern country, but I still don't want to listen to it. My favourite song was Ain't No God in Mexico.

Omaha is the best song. Johnny cash dumps on bad Gaylon Jennings.

Better than expected

Mid cowboy music. A couple of decent songs, most of this is a snoozefest. I would've died happy not listneing to this. OK tunes: Honky Tonk Heroes, Old Five and Dimers.

Ok album but not really a hit for me. One song that really stuck with me was Omaha. Sounded very similar to City of New Orleans. Interesting read on his history and life though.

Country music is not for me. I don't have thousands of miles of the field to dream about.

Not my bag

This feels like country in the classic-mould, twangy, sincere, well shucks country. It's a genre I can never identify with, I just don't get it. So much of it is so derivative, and tends to stick within extremely close parameters. This one certainly isn't pushing any boundaries, but it's competent enough. There are some songs that are actively irritating to me, but 1 star would feel harsh I think.

Entendu pire comme country 5/10

Generic country music. I can't tell this from Merle Haggard. I know he's done some great stuff, but there's no evidence of it here.

Pretty good for what it is, not quite by bag though.

Not for me

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY Shack and Casizzi are sitting on the couch, engrossed in a video game, their tall frames hunched over the controllers. The door bursts open, and in walks Adam Vinten, a flamboyant and overconfident neighbor. ADAM VINTEN (With a dramatic flair) Well, well, well, if it isn't the dynamic duo of Tall and Tall. Prepare yourselves, gentlemen, for you will rue the day you fucked with Adam Vinten! Shack and Casizzi pause the game, exchanging bewildered glances. SHACK (Chuckles) Adam, what are you talking about? We haven't done anything to rue. CASIZZI Yeah, Adam, what's with the dramatic entrance? ADAM VINTEN (Striking a pose) Oh, my dear friends, it's all part of my irresistible charm! I bring the drama wherever I go, and today is no exception. Shack and Casizzi exchange another amused look. SHACK Alright, Adam, spill the beans. What's got you all fired up? ADAM VINTEN (Laughs) You see, my fellow tall brethren, I have come across a most atrocious crime against fashion in this neighborhood. A fashion faux pas of epic proportions! CASIZZI A fashion faux pas? That sounds serious. SHACK What are we dealing with here, Adam? ADAM VINTEN (Putting a hand to his chest dramatically) Behold! I saw someone wearing socks with sandals! Can you imagine the horror, the audacity? It's a tragedy I cannot ignore! Shack and Casizzi burst into laughter. SHACK Adam, you never fail to entertain us. CASIZZI Yeah, we appreciate your dedication to fashion justice. ADAM VINTEN (With a mischievous grin) Fear not, my tall companions! Adam Vinten, the sartorial superhero, is here to right the wrongs of fashion crimes. No one will escape my fashion police radar! Shack and Casizzi chuckle, their laughter filling the room. SHACK Well, Adam, we're glad to have you fighting the good fight against fashion disasters. CASIZZI Just remember, you can always count on us for backup if things get too intense. ADAM VINTEN (With a theatrical bow) Ah, my dear friends, your support means the world to me. Together, we shall conquer the world of fashion, one outrageous outfit at a time! They all share a hearty laugh as the camera zooms out, capturing the camaraderie and humor that defines the friendship of Tall and Tall with their quirky neighbor, Adam Vinten. FADE OUT.

Oof. I don’t think I’m the target audience here. It’s fine. But I found it lacking any semblance of oomph. Perhaps I different Jennings album will hit me in a better place.

Enjoyed the title track. After that it descends into a lot of meh.

https://i.makeagif.com/media/6-21-2018/cERVyd.gif Flashbacks to riding a dirtbike through Flint County with K-DST blasting.

So straight off the bat, this isn't really my kind of thing, but the songs are well written and the musical parts are OK. Maybe if I was more inclined to country and/or blues I would have enjoyed it more

The first time I started listening to this, I actually was enjoying it. Now in general, I typically hate country music, but this wasn’t feeling me that same feeling. I went back to relisten to it this morning and was not enjoying it at all. I have no idea how I feel about this album now.

Dit met jur geluisterd in de zon op het balkon en toen vond ik het onder omstandigheden best wel prima!! Grappige teksten soms en gewoon heel erg country. Zou het niet zo snel nog een keer luisteren en mis hier heel erg de 2,5 ster

2/5 although black rose is a great tune

alright lets see

Kind of ok… but never a dedicated country fan

A lot of old country is more of a novelty to me at this point. Not to say I didn't enjoy it but it is something I will prob never put on unless I am trying to be funny. Waylon Jennings did have a cameo in Follow That Bird so props. "I found out a long time ago...."

Why do I do it to myself? I know I won't enjoy a country album, but I gamely listen to a country album anyway because this might be the country album that changes my mind. It was not. Sure, it was tolerable. Jenning's voice is lovely. The honky tonk stuff was less awful than the country. Did I enjoy it? No.

Look, I'm just not a country fan, this just ain't for me. There wasn't anything inherently bad about it, in fact there were a couple seconds in the first song that caught me a bit, but overall it's just a country album.

Eh just some boring hillbilly shit

27 minutes. More albums should be 27 minutes. Not my thing. But doesn't make it not good.

This is the type of album I’d play in the car when picking up a chick for a first date to remove any doubt whatsoever that I’m ice cold. I believe there is another reality somewhere in which Honky Tonk Heroes is playing in the bar in T2: Judgement Day when Arnie throws that biker nuisance on the grill. (T)2 stars x 2

So a couple songs by Waylon Jennings is okay but a whole album is too much.

p301. 1973. 2 stars Country, so wrong audience. It's OK, but its not great. On the plus side, it doesn't outstay its welcome.

Drifted along with out anything much of not happening but still felt a lot longer than 28 minutes. Imagine the outrage if people put out 28 minute albums these days.

It's too conservative for me

Some bits were close to straight forward rock n roll which I liked. The collaborator sounds a bit like Cash. Ok for country. High two.

I will like this if there is no steel guitar. God damn it, song 2 steel guitar. 2 stars.

Too straight for me Like a bit more bite, a but more darkness In my country … Love GP,

Ding dang done, 10 four ol buddy - much as I love a Burt Reynolds smuggler chase movie, I'm not sure I want a full album of this stuff, no matter how much a pedal steel can melt my cold heart

cowboy music from the early 70s 2.5

Not my cup of tea... I know that he's on the old country music Mount Rushmore with Johnny Cash (and others). But I prefer Johnny Cash...

2/5. Maybe I’m not a country guy but most of these were quite generic. It was not hard to listen to but it if it was any longer it might have been.

Honky Tonk Heroes is perfectly normal country, and by that I mean it sounds like most other artists of the era and has some of the same questionable content of its time. Nowt special enough for it to be here, 2.

This was not as bad as I expected it to be, particularly after the first two tracks (which are basically the same but one happy and one sad). Also, Black Rose probably crosses the racist line about being ashamed of an interracial relationship. Apart from that, it's not a bad album (for country, anyway). I really want to find some country music I like (other than Johnny Cash), but this isn't quite it. It's a bit more rock and roll than pure whining country music (which is why I like it a bit more I think), there are some decent songs in there, but it's not anything I'll go back to. 2/5.

dios. 6 / 10

Ei tätä ehkä kuuntelis kuin Kentuckylaisen ranchin terassilla auringonlaskun aikaan. Muuten aika menee.

Willy the Wandering Gypsy and Me was basically ring of fire but worse....

Ik heb echt geen idee waaraan ik mij mag verwachten. De kerel op de cover ziet er een beetje uit als Ray Cyrus. .... Ben benieuwd En het was even langdradig als ik verwacht had. Oeps. Shall not listen again. Geef me nu maar weer iet goe

Country is probably least favorite genre, but maybe I'm scarred by 2000s country. I can see how people would enjoy this album if they liked that outlaw country sound, but it's not for me.

I approve of the rock music influence, that defied my country music genre expectations and provided for an album I could actually listen to. But that still doesn't mean this is an album I'd like to listen to...

The album seemed very egocentric. A lot of the songs had "me" in the title or it was implied ("Honky Tonk Heroes Like Me", "Old Five and Diners (Like Me)" "Willy The Wandering Gypsy And Me,"... ) BTW, why did the third song have to have the "and me" on it? I mean, "Willy The Wandering Gypsy" is a sufficient name." You really didn't need to put yourself into that song. "Omaha" sounded like a low-budget rip-off of "The City Of New Orleans" Not impressed. Next.

Most country continues to do nothing for me, and this album is definitely in that category.

Niet heel vervelend, maar echt nergens krijg ik echt het gevoel dat ik hier iets mee kan. Ik hou best van wat country op z'n tijd maar dit was hem niet.

Honky Toni bih

We had it all was good other tracks didn’t stand out as much. This kind of country music is good, the newer stuff blows

the first bar of track one gave me a headache and i never got back to this. i'm gonna need someone to vet this for racism before i give it any time

This is an outlaw country album by Waylon Jennings with songwriting by Billy Joe Shaver. If you like country - especially when mixed with rock - then this is the album for you! This album began the outlaw country movement, which is a country subgenre that has rock and roll added in. The songs were fun; hard rockin' tunes with that signature country twang, and a cowboy singer to bring it all together. This isn't my favorite album - or even genre, but it was a good listen.

Gunky trunks

Not usually a fan of country but there are exceptions, I went into this with an open heart. First track I thought hmm. 2-4 I'm genuinely enjoying it, perhaps for the novelty, perhaps they're standout. I can see it's good, but after that I'm tapping out tbh, I just lose interest. Weird that there's absolutely no Lee Hazelwood in this book. Stuck Nancy & Lee on immediately afterwards to cleanse my palate.

Nije loše aaaal, nije mi pasalo iskreno

Shines in its uptempo moments but not enough to break the mold of usual 70s country.

Not really a fan of this. It was okay, I guess. I'm not really a fan of country.

Best Song: They all mix together in a continuous stream of the same, country-flavoured mush. It may have been fresh when it came out, but that doesn't make it interesting. Worst Song: Old Five and Dimer (Like Me). Are we at the country bear jamboree? Overall: I think I just have a predisposition to dislike any music where the singer refers to themselves as a "good old boy." Lyrically uninteresting, musically repetitive.

Generic country shite done with enthusiasm

I thought I would enjoy this one more, but never really got into it. 2

Recency bias. There was nothing wrong with it but it wasn't as good as the previous day.

Instantly forgettable country music. 2/5.

Good solid country songs. A good band and authentic sound, about as much country and western as I can tolerate. 2/5 - Not a fan of country. I’m not a cowboy.

This was ok, similar type of country to Jonny Cash. Nice pedal steel. Probably won't ever go back to it though.

Tylsää countryrallattelua josta ei meinannut jäädä mitään mieleen muutamallakaan kuuntelukerralla. Mikäköhän meriitti on nostanut tämän listalle? Plussaa napakasta 27 minuutin mitasta.

It's not bad, but it's just hugely not my thing.

Low Down Freedom is a great song. I didn’t love the album though.

Not my favorite, too much country.

Fine. 5/10

I feel like I was misled by the title of this album. I hoped it would be some nice old school jazz, but it's actually country... It *is* more jazzy than some of the other country I've had so far, but only for a couple of tracks. It also has some rock influences by the sounds of stuff, but comes back to the classic common themes like trucking and dumping/returning to women. Just not my jam I guess.

Is it possible to believe in a country song in a country album be more country than the most country song in a country world ruled by countrymen and countrywomen with country childrens singing country songs in a country album? Yes, it's possible!

Less exciting than I expected.

Straightforward classic country. Not my style but well done for what it is.

Klassischer country

I don't hate it man, I love country but 10 songs of this is too much even for me. I like the twang, but I ain't like it so much. 2/5 man, can't rate it 1 because a few songs on this, if they came on The Wire I'd be absolutely obsessed with.

I listened to this while playing cod. V nice. // Favs: bro I was playing cod I didn't pay attention Score: Decent to Strong 2

I am not a country-music fan, and Waylon Jennings does not do enough different on Honky Tonk Heroes to change my opinion. Almost every song sounds the same, it's either too sweet or too sad, definitely not for me. 2/5.

It’s alright

Nothing wrong with this but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

not for me

Warm vocals and tough lyrics here from "outlaw" Waylon Jennings. I guess outlaw country isn't an attitude, but a sound, because I've heard country acts going back to the 40s cosplay as outlaws. But I digress, it's a good listen, but the negatives kind of outweighted the positives. Rating: 2.5/5

Non amo il country

Picturing myself in an American bar with you all I could happily listen to this in the background of our ramble. I wouldn't choose to put it on but also wouldn't complain if somebody else had. Prefer the uptempo tunes with this genre not a fan of the slower Cash style. 2* but by no means bad.

I don't really 'get' country, I seem to exclusively only like Johnny Cash. This was alright, I didn't like it but didn't actively dislike it either. Mercifully short at 27 minutes. I'm writing this 5 minutes after the album has finished and with the exception of We Had It All I have already forgotten the songs.

I liked this more than I thought I would. Bit samey by the end but it is short enough that it doesn't matter.

I'm sure this is a great example of what it is, but it's just not for me

Country isn't for me but I can appreciate Waylon and his part in country music history.

I listened to this twice and both times when I got to the end I was like, what even happened? It was pretty blah for me, which disappointed me because I usually like Waylon Jennings quite a bit, or at least I thought I did...

Country. Bleh.

I'm not a fan of honky tonk music. can't really appreciate it.

Olis toivonut vähän enemmän honky tonkyä. Levynä aika pliisu vaikka parhaat biisit soi ihan hyvin.

70’er country, flydende, harmonisk, lidt kedeligt

Appreciated more than the Lucinda Williams country-adjacent album. I always find myself just trying to push through and not intently listening to country (however loose)

Basta de Country no pienso escucharlo.

Generic country, why is this here?!

Bailed on this one. Not my thing even a little bit. That's all I have to say.

Not essential

what is this wildwest tavern music

Not my thing. At all.

Was overdue a country album!! I really tried with this one, quite liked the 1st track, then it all went downhill from there. Decent production on it, that's about all!

1/5 no me gusta el country jsjssj

Well it’s better than hip hop (c)rap. But only just. 1/5 13/4/26

Not as bad as I imagined it was going to be. The thought of Daisy Duke in hotpants helped me get to the finish. No, that just sounds wrong, some things should remain private. I will not be going back for sloppy seconds any time soon.

Holy fucking boring good god.

Well suited for an afternoon spent drinking piss-poor beer and lapping up bitter ruminations from the old fogeys and barflies at the local watering hole. Mercifully over in 28 minutes. The font on the cover is a crime against design.

Awful. But it's short.

There is a lot more country on this list than I thought there would be. It’s done nothing to change my perspective on the genre. I was right to hate it, and will continue as such.

Mid 1 Minimalist production + boring songs + generic country voice = not a thing to recomend it. Upgraded from low 1 by the song "we had it all" which I quite enjoyed

wasn’t great

America

Made it 1 1/2 tracks in and dipped. This music was not made for me. It was made for losers.

Tried to listen - really do not enjoy country music

I'll take honky-tonk country over the slower, twangier stuff but this is still a bit weak. Just not into anything country. Some decent storytelling Billy Joe on a few like "Ain't No God in Mexico." Heard of Waylon and his heroes but never had a listen. Pretty sure he is big time in the genre. Surprised he didn't write anything on this album Glad this was a short one and not too torturous. Getting a pretty low score at 1.21 stars though.

Wasn't looking forward another outdated country album. One song in after the title track I figured hey, maybe this won't be that bad. I immediately had to backtrack on this as I was then dealt 9 slowed down boring old country songs. Not sure what would be considered groundbreaking or list-worthy out of this as they were all very simple acoustic tracks with little to no variation or anything interesting. Best feature of this album is the playtime. At 27 minutes its one of the shorter entries on the list and even that was too long for me. I legitimately don't believe I've ever been a fan of anything that includes the words honky tonk. It's just not my scene at all. 0.65 stars

Shit album

Gud nej

Oh man! I'm so grateful that I was raised on the right side of the Atlantic, where there simply didn't exist such a thing as the stupidity and simplicity of country music. As far as my memory goes, there were some songs on the Stones albums, Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet, but even then, much much better performed. This is just another terrible country album on this list. I had my hopes up with the first song "Honky Tonk Heroes", but those were crushed by the second song and everything further on, which are the typical tearjerkers and whining songs that made me hate country music so much. So here we go again - 1/5

Not my style

Outlaw Country? More like extra garbagey country.

Didn’t grab my attention, put me to sleep. And worst of all his vocal performance and just the sound of his voice in general is so boring and underwhelming. Albums like this make me think I hate country until I hear stuff that’s actually good.

I think if you enjoy Honky Tonk this probably is the gold standard. For me it’s like nails on a chalkboard.

Other than the Dukes of Hazzard theme, I don't think I could name a single song by Waylon Jennings (well scratch that, I know of "Luckenbach," but I don't think I've ever actually listened to it. As a Texan, don't tell anyone I said that). I've enjoyed a fair amount of the country albums on this list, and the words Honky Tonk appearing in the title up the chances of my enjoyment even more. Time for a little outlaw country! As much as I wanted to enjoy this album, I found it pretty underwhelming. I thought Waylon’s singing was good, and the guitar playing was nice, but I was really bored by this album. When it comes to country music, I really love hearing raw emotions, like Emmylou Harris, or something lighthearted and silly, like Buck Owens. Honky Tonk Heroes was just kind of bland to me, because it didn’t make me feel anything. There weren’t any particular songs that stood out to me, and there wasn’t anything particularly unique about this musically or lyrically. I was really hoping that I would enjoy this album, but this was a swing and a miss.

This would be an album I'd listen to if I was driving through the midwest on a roadtrip, but otherwise it's not my vibe lol.

Not a country fan though I know there is some incredible country music but he’s a country legend so I gave it listen. Update, still not a country fan, and this wasn’t one of those albums for me. The singing isn’t even good??

Only some country, but not this

Herpa derp countryskräp 0/5

Artiste inconnu. Le premier morceau avec son accélération centrale m'a fait espérer un peu. Espoir vite douché par les morceaux suivants, complètement country et totalement ennuyeux pour moi. =>1/5

This one just didn’t hit for me. I’m not really into the outlaw cowboy vibe, so it was always going to be a bit of a stretch. Also — does this really count as a full album? It’s only 27 minutes long. Sure, in the '70s there were physical limitations, but even so, it feels more like a long EP than an album. Raises a few questions, that’s for sure.

Sincere performances and tasteful production, but not my bag at all. Trad country rock. Cack.

Too country and/or western for me. 1/5

Just not my thing

I went into this thinking I'd hate it which I don't like doing but I've been stung a couple of times with country. Reluctantly I start the first track. It starts off slow, with a little guitar riff. Waylon Jennings comes in with a bit of a stereotypical but enjoyable voice. Then a little delicate violin in the background. The vocal melody is really catchy and has the sound of a big singalong chorus. Then a third of the way through the track a blues electric guitar starts chugging away and the drums kick in. It turns into a proper foot tapping bluesy country rock song. I am genuinely loving this. Another verse and chorus followed by a back and forth harmonica/guitar battle then Jennings takes us home with a final chorus. I hope, wish and pray that the rest of the album follows suit. Next track is a slow old school country saloon track, as is the next one. Please don't do this to me Waylon! The rest of the album never hits the heights of the first track. I'm not sure what it is about the opener. The blues tone, the rock and roll vibe? Something about it grabbed me and it's going straight on every playlist I have. It's honestly so good. The rest is your standard country. Slow, moody, drones on and on. Mercifully it's only 27 minutes long. Damn you Waylon, you nearly had me for a few minutes!

This sort of music is so image-conscious that I cannot take it seriously as genuine artistic expression. Like, you know exactly what the preoccupations of this album will be before you ever hit play. Being a lonely cowboy is hard. Being a lonely cowboy while also getting lots of pussy is especially hard. Being ‘free’ (which I guess just means being away from lawmen and cities and soap) is cool. Drinking gin from a jug is also cool. You see a track called 'Low Down Freedom' and you can practically write it yourself: lamenting about having to leave the girl who's just spent the evening 'fitting' the singer's body (gross) because all that freedom is irresistible to a wild cowboy like he. Every creative decision is made to satiate people who would burn down the hootenanny if this music didn’t fit within these very narrow prescriptions. We should not indulge them.

I can't really take this music seriously. It just sounds like he's taking the Mick, but he's clearly not. But he's using a silly voice and it all feels like stereotypes. It's not as nauseating as some country, but it's not good. One song about freedom had a fade out, that bugged me. The next track was just a rip off of universal soldier by Donovan but without the meaningful lyrics, and with a naff bass line. I haven't actually heard a honky-tonk on it yet... Oh apparently honky-tonk can refer to the bars or the music they play country music in, even though all are named after the piano. Not for me I'm afraid.

NO NO and thrice NO!!! Music to listen to before you slit your own throat!

Not really my bag but well made

better than modern country but I still can’t stand it

Very country

If tepid congealed porridge was an album then it would be Hony Tonk Heroes. Unpalatable.

I really can't understand why country is something you NEED to listen to before you die. Terrible genre.

unfathonmavly boring. cant even be arsed fixing that typo is how bored i am

Okay I think I knew what I would think about this before I listened to it and I was right.

Hill billy pis! SE DOG PÅ DET COVER BILLEDE!!!! ØV! det bedste ved albummet er længden. 30 lange minutter.

Please stop recommending to me music that sounds like it was made by people who ride the short bus.

honky tonk is not for me, im afraid

Hillbilly nonsense

Never been a fan of Honky Tonk. Gave this an honest try, but still not a fan.

Honky Tonk motherfucker. Understand why the word 'Honky' is a racial Slur after listening to that!

Honky Tonk bollocks

Not my thing at all.

Unbearable. Rocky outlaw Country & Western.

houd niet zo van Amerikaanse muziek

Not mine

Personally, I don't like country music

Yee haw

Not really my thing.

Yee-haw! Sorry, but not my kind of music.

hmmmm this is dangerously too closely related to country which I don't do. But I'm committed and will give it an honest listen. Metal heads famous last words. Thank fuck it's only 32 min long. 32 min too long. Okay thank satan that's over. Need to rinse my ears out now with some Behemoth now.

At least it was short.

Could have been used for the soundtrack to Smokey and the Bandit. Good film, terrible music!

CUNT TREE

Not a fan of C&W, and not a fan of this albu,m.

Pretty much it’s dog shit

oh god just terrible

Typical country with twangy guitars and lovelorn lyrics. Waylon is better with the quieter songs as he tends to shout on the more uptempo tracks. The arrangements are as simple as they could be. Dominated by a plodding bass line in nearly every case. Not for me and generally not very impressive,

Dit was echt niet te doen...

Nope this one ain't for me

Country cr8nge.

C&W. No.

Shit kickin villains

No thanks

didn't finish :(

Disposable Country for Texans

country is shit

t w a n g

couldn't make it through the first song

What did I think of this? It kind of washed over me, to be honest. I can only assume it's so clasically country as to sound like a pastiche to my post-modern, 21st century, hyper pop-culture literate ears. Besides, as we know, I don't actually like country music that much, despite my best efforts (cf. my Willie Nelson review).

As if Hank Williams, Lefty Fritzell, George Jones, Merle Haggard etc never laid the path for being tough and vulnerable, muscular and sweet, Wailing Jennings sidles in with his dick dangling freely out of his zipper, orders shots for the whole bar and lays down some utterly useless guy music.

Country gives me a headache

No country for me, the old man. Next.

Äh, nnnnEIN! Ich hatte bislang noch nicht mal was von dem Genre "Outlaw Country“ gehört, geschweige denn von Jennings, und hätte mir gewünscht, dass das auch so geblieben wäre.

1973: Black Rose

Proper old skool country music. This isn't a good thing

Never again

not my thing
