Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Enjoyable. Has Mrs Robinson and Hazy Shade of Winter.

Not my favorite S&G but I won't say no to this one

Not sure what to expect to on first listen, had to give it a second to appriate it some.

Enjoyed overall

Mrs Robinson!

Decent album but a little dull. The old people voices one is weird. Mrs Robinson is obviously a classic.

Over rated, lots of inconsequential fluff

Feels like an album that plays at a closing department store. Get all your clearance items while listening to this!

Kinda Boring decent songs

I don't get it. It is not bad. Just boring

Liked the softer songs

Better than I remember it as a kid… rockless, insight-poetry. Solid, but not my style.

Made the year before I was born. The lyrics haven’t aged well, very fey. The guitar playing is sublime and Simon’s voice. Garfunkel is to Simon and Ridgely is to Michael.

Ojämn America

I don't ever want to hear "Mrs. Robinson"...it is so "plastic my boy, plastic"!

Didn't find it memorable :( I liked America.

Very sweet, very gentle folk. I like that Side A is a concept half-album that captures snapshots in time along the journey from childhood to old age. 'America' and 'Old Friends' are particularly lovely, quiet, and sweet songs. The literally titled 'Voices of Old People' is a sound collage of retirement home residents talking about photographs. It raises the question: is it Simon and Garfunkel? Is it even a song? Either way it is an interesting artistic choice. Side B is characterised by louder, more commercial songs, without an easily discernable theme. It's dominated by the ubiquitous 'Mrs Robinson' but every Side B song is catchy and 'At the Zoo' is a fun album closer. Putting the commercial half of the album as Side B and the weirder concept album element as Side A is a cool choice and perhaps indicates prioritisation of art over commercially. Overall, this is an interesting album. Scratch the surface and it is also much weirder than I'd imagined a Simon and Garfunkel record would be. Although some of the weirdness doesn't always benefit listenability or enjoyment, it gets a bonus half-point because some of the songs are Abbyfavourites. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Mrs Robinson Date listened: 19/09/23

clásico!

Upon opening this album in the Spotify web player, I thought, wow, under 30 minutes for an entire album. Interesting, but that’s all I needed. I’m more familiar with Paul Simon as a solo artist, but I certainly knew of him as part of the Simon & Garfunkel duo. The music here certainly isn’t bad, but the first few songs feel like a mish mosh of different styles and sounds. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. Overs lulls me to sleep, then I kept waiting for the music to come in after the Voices of Old People. I guess that’s what happens when you listen as you work. Turns out it was just an interlude followed by Old Friends and Bookends Theme, which sounds like the music in the background of an old dramatic movie. But we pick up the pace with Fakin It. It was somewhat Beatles-like to my ears. Same with Punky’s Dilemma. The Beatles sound is so keen to me that I thought Mrs. Robinson was a Beatles song until the very moment of listening to the Bookends album. Go figure. Bookends ends on a pleasant, upbeat note. Not bad. I’m interested enough to dive deeper to see what other songs of theirs that I thought were sung by someone else.

Some good songs but I wish the album as a whole didn't feel so sleepy.

Nice acoustic sounds. I didn't know Simon & Garfunkel made this kind of music.

I'm surprised that the singles come near the end. S&F were never favorites of mine, but Mrs. Robinson was always a classic to me.

Jesus loves you more than you will know

A few beautiful songs, but I didn't love it.

Quite a range of new sounds in this album. Save the life of my child is an unusual beginning, with psychedelic bass and choir screams. There is updated guitar sounds still, and the trademark harmonies are not always to the forefront. The famous tunes still stand up, and the complex song structures stand out compared to modern tunes.

Always thought Simon & Garfunkel where overrated this hasn’t changed that much but hazy shade of winter is a banger so it gets an extra star for that

Not my style at all

Never thought a two-and-a-half-minute song could feel like an eternity. A few great songs and a few really horrible songs. Nothing I would return to.

Good fun and a couple of cracking tracks near the end. 3.5 stars.

Mrs Robinson is a classic.

i wiked it

An odd mixture. Some elements sound remarkably modern and varied, some have dated horribly. The distance between good songs (Mrs Robinson, Hazy Shade) and the bad (Punkys Dilemma) are huge. Clearly not a terrible album...but not as good as it thinks it is.

I like the more varied instrumentation on this release. It's definitely a bit headier than a lot of their stuff. I find just including songs from a soundtrack on your separate album a bit weird though.

a cool album with good pop songs.

Not my piece of cake

its a shame with such natural effortless perfection in 'mrs robinson' and 'a hazy shade of winter' that the rest of the record is so entirely boring

Langt ifra, for mye konseptlyd

Love me some Simon & Garfunkel. Very happy to see they showed up as an excuse to dive deeper. Not their best but a good entry. 3.5/5

Snooze fest 1968.

This is a good but inconsistent album. It does feel more experimental but not really psychedelic. The standout tracks are really good but the rest are pretty forgettable. Standout Tracks: Bookends Theme, America, Fakin' It, Mrs. Robinson, A Hazy Shade of Winter, At the Zoo

Many well known songs (the wonderful Bookends and America and then Mrs Robinson, Hazy Shade or Winter), their voices really are beautiful together but for me it just won't grip me, 30 minutes is enough and 3 stars. some really nice songs, some cheesy ones and it is good

Great short story of an album, enjoyed more than I thought I would

It was an ok album. I liked the song America. Maybe the album was culturally significant at the time, but the music hasn't held up over time, nothing in the album stood out to me as groundbreaking... But that's just me.

I was surprised at how underwhelmed i was by this album. A lot of it left me feeling a bit bored. At least a few tracks were good or at least interesting and of course Mrs. Robinson is an all time classic. Maybe this one takes multiple listens? I don't plan on doing so anytime soon anyway.

art and paul doing folk. that “the graduate” song is on it! wow!

Nice listen

Very good

Ok definitely a lot going on here. Not many artists who inspire such simultaneous love and loathing in me as Paul Simon. Art is cool. More sounds than I expected. The synth in the second track made me think I'd left something else on the queue. Mrs Robinson is obviously a great song. Hazy Shade of Winter is a banger I didn't know before. So there's plenty of good. But holy crap the preciousness. I usually care about music far more than lyrics, but Paul Simon REALLY pushes that sometimes. "I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera" has always been one of my most hated lyrics in rock n roll, it's just absolutely awful. But that Punkys Dilemma song may have left it in the dust. "I wish I was a kellogg cornflake, floating in my bowl" oh my god make it stop. Also Fakin It seems like a total ripoff of Plastic Fantastic Lover? With all there is for me to hate here, it's quite an accomplishment for this to get 3 stars from me.

What is the overall style and genre of the album? Folk acoustic Are there any standout tracks or moments that resonated with you? Mrs. Robinson How did the album make you feel? Did it evoke specific emotions? Nostalgia, I used to listen to sounds of silence and the greatest hits album all the time as a kid Did you enjoy listening to the album overall? I did. I think its a good album, the best on the list so far. Would you recommend this album to others? Who might particularly enjoy it? I like this album and I would recommend it to people who have only hear sounds of silence and want more S&G. Notes: Mrs Robinson is a banger and I love me some Simon and Garfunkel Rest of the album is good but forgettable. I couldnt name any of the other tracks.

Listened to some of it and whilst I could recognise the quality it was not my taste

I do love me some Simon & Garfunkel! Haven't heard this album from start to finish but am familiar with at least one of the tracks. America. This "Voices of Old People" track is interesting. Oh Mrs. Robinson is on this album. And it says "from The Graduate soundtrack" I'm gonna have to watch that. I've seen it around a lot and heard of it a bunch.

Dope so far

Short album, surprised to hear a number of skits. The hits are there - particularly Mrs. Robinson, but overall the compilation was a solid 3 stars. I guess one of their more daring concept albums, but not my favorite.

These guys are like classic pop folk music. I'm willing to bet that at the time this album was released this was very artsy. It's kind of boring to listen to most of the time, but I don't hate it. Whenever I hear their name I think of Garfunkel and Oates which then makes me think of Hall and Oats 2 bands that are much more enjoyable to listen to. This album has Mrs. Robinson which is a classic that I always thought was a Beatles song. There are like 3 good songs on this album, and the rest are all just ok This is a 3/5

hey it has that one song on it. and it's not annoying to listen to.

Not bad. I don't regret listening, but I will probably never listen again.

A great album!

“They’re on the pot!” ✨🇺🇸✨ AJ 😂😂😂 They were absolutely on the pot. Some nonsense. But poetry, really. Ton of imagery. Zoo song had me in a bus from the east side to capron park. Had never heard Fakin It. Great tune. A surprising jaunt in a lot of slow melodic weirdness. Mrs Robinson is one of my favorite songs to sing along to. I forget about that, but remember every time I hear it. Cat: They were absolutely on the pot!! A lot more rockin and a lot more full sounding than I expected. Fakin It was my favorite. Also liked Old Friends and Punky’s Dilemma. Embarrassed I didn’t know they did Hazy Shade of Winter!

Favorite song: “Hazy Shade of Winter”. Otherwise, this album is fine but I don’t really have anything to say about it.

I see what they were trying to do with the album them. I did like some of it but I don't think it clicked with me too much on a first listen. I can see a lot of the songs growing on me if I listened to it more

This pretty much confirms my suspicion that Paul Simon is really good. And im going to blame all the bad parts of the album on the fact that Art Garfunkel thinks hes smarter than he is Voices of old people is just stupid.

A concept album that doesn't feel like a concept album.

A little snoozy, but Mrs. Robinson is worth a star or two on its own.

Interludes were weird. Mrs Robinson> America > Save the Life of My Child. Recorded really well, though sometimes I wish the rhythm guitar was a bit louder in the mix. Bet it would have been impressive to see these songs performed live.

A quick jaunt into a "concept" album. Some songs are surprisingly peppier than I would have thought for a Simon & Garfunkel record. I enjoy the lyrics and varied sounds used without. The first song sets the tone for a decent amount of art rock involved. I always really liked their use of what I imagine are sound effects, almost foley art. I enjoyed it but I also think it could benefit from a little more focus. 3/5

I get what they're going for in the first half, and it's cool as a storytelling device similar to Lou Reed's Berlin, but that doesn't make it a very aesthetically pleasing experience. Excellent on the lyrics but somewhat dull on the instrumental (except for "America"), made up for only by their beautiful polyphonic singing. "Save the Life of My Child" has the opposite problem, trying to be really artsy but coming off messy. The compositions become much more melodically interesting in the second half, at the cost of its consistency. These are some of their best songs but suffers from being a bit all over the place other than their high-energy. I may be a bit too harsh considering only one track was insufferable (you know which one) and I actually did enjoy many of them, but the faults turn me off from liking it as an album experience.

I should have this album in my vinyl collection but don't. S&G are nice for a casual listen while hanging out with the family. There are a few favorites "America" and "Hazy Shade...". I feel this album falls in the middle of the road. It has some interesting production ideas; some that work and others that are just weird. I like this album overall but nothing that stirs my soul.

Sigh. I really wanted to like this album, as I felt surprisingly letdown by Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme. I like S&G. I think Simon is a fantastic and interesting songwriter. (Fantastic in that he has great melodies and lyrics, and interesting in that his songs often take quirky left turns.) And "America" and "Mrs. Robinson" are just perfect, 10/10 songs. But too often on this record the arrangements got in the way of the songs. Like on that "Save my child" song. Even "Hazy Shade of Winter," which is pretty restrained by this album's standards, doesn't quite connect the way The Bangles' version does. I guess they're more of a hits group, rather than an album group.

This album is ok. I didn't like any of the songs in the first half of the album, but it suddenly picked up at Fakin' It and we much better afterwards. The first half is slow, weird, and kinda boring, while the back half is a lot faster tempo, louder, and more energetic. Overall, the album is just ok. 3/5 Favorite song: A Hazy Shade of Winter Worst song: Save the Life of My Child (Actual worst track is Voices of Old People, but that's not a song)

Some classic songs on here for sure, a few that didn;t quite fire.

Dit album viel me tegen.

I haven't listened to this album in very long time. Unfortunately, it hasn't passed the test of time. There are of course the big hits and minor hits that are classic S&G. It was common for artists to experiment with artsy stuff . Sometimes it works and sometimes it falls flat. For this album, all of the artsy stuff fell flat. In the end, I enjoyed listening to the classic songs. But as a whole (and I can't believe I'm saying this) the album was just OK. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - It was ok to listen to but I wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.

Again, as with their last album I reviewed, it's mostly very gentle and folky. But once again, there's some really nice songs in here.

They did produce some great harmonies together, but I can't help but think they did their greatest work after they split up

Take away the three hit singles and it's nothing special

Another good S&G album. This one had two very well known songs America and Mrs. Robinson. It was a short album and there was a track titled "Voices of Old People" and I am not sure why it was included. It is probably a 3.5 but I will round down.

Interesting use of recorded sound, not really one I plan to revisit, but I'm sure I'll never escape Mrs Robinson.

As a whole this is an underwhelming and strange album by two very incredible artists.

The end of "fakin it" made me want to spin up rasputin, lol. I love "America" and "Mrs Robinson", the rest wasn't catchy enough to be memorable.

Tuntuis typerältä väittää S&G:tä miksikään muuksi kun hyväksi musiikiksi. Siitäkin huolimatta en listaisi juuri tätä levyä parhaimmistoon, vaan kaksi edeltävää. Mukiinmenevä levy toki tämäkin. 3/5

Tää tyyli on vähän liian kevyttä ollakseen mun juttu mut kylhän tää oli ihan miellyttävä.

Nice sound, easy to listen and it has Mrs Robinson

"Mrs. Robinson" is one of S&G's best songs, but I found this album too folky for my taste. The first half was a real snoozefest, and I was set to give this two stars, but the last handful of songs has me rounding up to a generous three. The album held one surprise, though: I had no idea "A Hazy Shade of Winter" was an S&G song—I only knew the Bangles version before this (which I quite enjoy).

I would say average.

stand-outs: "Old Friends," "Hazy Shade of Winter"

Classic

Good memories, but it is times gone by. Did not age that well. Of course a few mythical songs remain pleasant to listen to.

I was expecting big things on this album. I was pretty shocked how short it was. Mrs robinson is their best song. By far. At the zoo was a nice ender. I thought this album just didnt really get started until the middle and by then it was almost over. I needed some more. Solid 5/10

It's fine

Robinson", "A hazy shade of winter" y también "America". Así que le vamos a dar 3 estrellas.

Great album

really slow album, finishes well with Mrs Robinson and Hazy shade of winter, not too bad if looking to chill out I gess

Yeah, something else I just don't get. Simon & Garfunkel seem to make decent enough, pleasing enough music that for some reason is revered as being the best thing ever, ever, 4! despite never actually going beyond decent enough, pleasing enough. Paul Simon on his own is absolutely extraordinary. I can only conclude that Art Garfunkel acts as a brake on him.

I like S&G but some of the songs on this album were a bit weird, still a good listen

Simon and Garfunkel are quintessential 60s folk music. They have such an interesting use of lyricism and instrumentals that make their albums fun and enjoyable. Mrs. Robinson is an amazing song and I’m not sure why. Everything about it is right. The rest of the album has interesting themes and lyrics. The instrumentals are pretty solid but nothing too complex. America and a hazy shade of winter are two other good songs on this album. 7.3/10

Some good songs but a lot of filler.

The hits are great, the rest...less so

This was quote lovely, I was pleasantly surprised by the grandiosity of some of the music here, having only known these guys up until now from Sound of Silence, I was expecting something similarly minimal, and soft. And while I'm tempted to say this sounds like a soft-boy version of the Beatles, it is definitely not minimal. These guys really know how to tell a story, both in their lyrics and in their musical progression. Old Friends in particular was beautiful, hauntingly so, but pretty much every song was evocative and vivid. I've gained respect for these guys I never thought I'd have.

Pleasant to listen to, past that not much to say.

A very very good singles, but a lot of fluff. Simon & Garfunkel feel like one of those bands where a greatest hits will get you what you need instead of their albums. Maybe I'm just ignorant about it tho. 3.5

Almost too artsy for me at most points in the album but some great tracks

enjoyed, but probably not going to be listening to a lot of it again.

Based on what information in the Wikipedia article, I would say that this album is best listened to on vinyl. There is a definite theme for the first half (side A) and a bunch of decent songs on the second half (side B). It is disjointed when listening on a stream as they don’t compliment each other at all. Having to flip a record would help provide a proper demarcation between the two concepts..

Don't have album, but 9 of the 12 tracks are on The Essential Simon & Garfunkel ("Overs" as a live version). Leaves me a bit cold - prefer cover versions of songs.

Listening to this, I felt quite underwhelmed by the music. Mrs. Robinson is a classic song, but the rest didn't grab my attention much. I will stick to their big hits, maybe give their other albums a try.

Best Song: A Hazy Shade of Winter. Refreshingly uptempo, shows that the duo can pull off more energetic songs than their typical ballads. Would love an album full of songs like this. Worst Song: Old Friends. Sounds much too much like a theatrical song from a stage play than a song I want to just listen to, on an album. Overall: Beautiful voices that are mostly under-utilized singing simple or uninteresting songs. Everything sounds "nice" and fresh and clean, but also a little sanitized.

shorter than I thought. Favorite track was probably old friends. Will give it another listen one day. The subject matter of growing old was saddening to listen to, but beautiful instrumentals. The track about the kellogg's corn flake was really funny, but overall I kinda liked it. Will be giving more Simon & Garfunkel albums a try.

40 minutes worth of stuff as good as Save the Life of My Child, America, and Mrs Robinson and I'd be loading up the power washer with 5s and spraying them all over this thing. Even if it ended in a shitty zoo song. It's just so short that a few skippers makes this like when my wife trims the fat off the pork belly before she eats it. There's just not enough of a meal left behind to feel satisfied.

I have a bit of nostalgia for this thanks to my father being a huge fan of Simon & Garfunkel, but they have better albums or compilations I'd rather listen to. Some good tracks, but just not enough.

It’s okay.

This is some reasonably pretty but unexciting folksy music punctuated with a couple of brilliant songs. America is possibly my favourite S&G song, it's much closer to most of what they do than Bridge Over Troubled Water or Mrs Robinson, and it really shows off how good Paul Simon is at telling a story in song.  Then towards the end of the album the pace picks up, about thirty seconds into Mrs Robinson, that and Hazy Shade of Winter would've made a wonderful climax to the album, but they then inexplicably put a song about going to the zoo at the end  It's not awful, and would have fitted nicely a bit earlier in the album, but feels a bit jarring here. 3/5 for this one, really not far off of a 4 though.

Not their best, picks up second half

Has some unexpected tunes. Feeling like a soundtrack

Great acoustic tunes and classic songwriting. Not as cheesy as I thought it might be. Lush orchestration that’s not overdone.

A very chill album with a couple of stand-out familiar tracks. I liked that the album was less than 30 minutes. It enable me to get through it in one shot while walking the pup. Simon & Garfunkel are always a good option when you want to chill out and think of simpler times long gone.

A sinusoidal wave between nice and meh.

Sounds like a visit to my Grandparents. Found the first half of the album fairly uninteresting. Then suddenly the energy seems to increase and grabbed my attention for the second half of the album. "Fakin' It" and "Mrs. Robinson"y favourite tracks.

It's at least better than the kitschy mess that's A Bridge Over Troubled Water. The music is nothing special, but that's how I've always felt about S&G

Grimon Warspunkel

3, they good

Better than expected, mellow and harmonic. But not all of it.

Bookends is the fourth album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. This album was a breakthrough for the duo since it peaked at number one on the top albums charts in the US and UK, and had a number one single with "Mrs. Robinson". However, the duo was already well known because of their second album "Sounds of Silence". In the end this fourth album cemented them at the forefront of the cultural movement in the 1960's, and it's hard to decide whether this album or their fifth and final album "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is the best. This album is a blast from the past. The music will transport you back to the Summer of Love and bring back memories of the turbulent 60's. I was not born for another 25 years, but I can still appreciate this amazing album today. Everyone is aware of the album's single that became immensely popular around the world - "Mrs. Robinson" - but even the other tracks are a good listen and might be someone else's favorite from this album. Give this classic album a listen and soak in the bittersweet, nostalgic vibes it expels into the air as soundwaves!

Relaxing and pleasant listen with the classic Mrs. Robinson on there.

4 well known classics in America, Old Friends, Mrs Robinson and Hazy shade. A few ok songs and some decidedly iffy filler. What were they thinking opening the album to such cacophony after the mutual gentle intro?! A low 3 - it’s clearly no Bridge or Sounds

3/5 there are some good songs, but also some awful ones.

Simon > Simon & Garfunkel > Garfunkel. What does Garfunkel even do, anyway? :) On a serious note, this is a good album - deserving of being on the list. They had a unique sound and some deserving commercial success. Still - albums like this make me feel like I don't listen to music right. I always approach an album with a "how many good songs are on here?" attitude, which is - perhaps - unfair to albums like these that are build more like a soundtrack or a movement. It has old people talking and weird interludes in there that make it seem like a story is people told, but I don't know what it is. It's weird.

Big ups for a 29 minute album

Enjoyable listen. A couple of dud tracks but the rest was good.

Genre: Folk Pop 3/5 While I'm familiar with the duo, I had never done a deep dive in their discography as this sort of folk thing, while enjoyable to listen to, just never really did it for me. Some of their songs are timeless, but amongst the songs of their contemporaries, they're left mostly unremarkable in comparison. This album in particular does a good job of highlighting my issues with the genre. The songs are pretty and all serve their purpose in what is supposed to be a concept album (except for Garfunkel's Voices of Old People which seems like utter nonsense compared to the rest of the tracklist), but it's all together a bit uninteresting. Paul Simon does a nice job on this, with both singing and songwriting, as he was apt to do back in those days, but it's a little too formulaic. To quote a contemporary review of the time, it's nice enough, it's slick, but nothing too much happens.

I like many songs of Paul Simon but not familiar with this album. It actually sounds quite good, but also not as poppie as I would expect. Bit boring actually. ***

Sinatra and The Kinks had me insecure for a moment that there’s something broken in me that’s incapable of enjoying music below a certain bpm, but this was totally pleasant!

Pretty much what I expected. It’s Simon and Garfunkel noodling on acoustic guitars and reciting poetry. Great music, classics, but pretty bland.

Not bad

1st February 2022 Listened while working at the table. Went to watch Cheltenham at Wimbledon in the evening with Pates lot. Enjoyed the homely, down to earth comfort that S&G excel at. There’s a humanity and lived in recognition to their music. 3.5 if I could.

There are quite a few Simon & Garfunkel songs I truly love, so I'm a fan. I had not listened to this album before so was unfamiliar with most tracks. It's a mix for me. Some grab me, some don't. It occasionally gets a little similar-sounding to itself, you know? I do like that they wrote and produced this is as a concept album. They were talented enough to just keep churning out pop hits forever, so I'm glad they did some exploring.

Not my favourite Simon & Garfunkel album. I like some of the songs, but there were also a few I would have rather have not on the album. Favourite songs: - America - Fakin’ it - Mrs. Robinson

This is fine, but, I dunno, maybe I’m not deep enough for this shit. Strong finish tho

A lot more interesting than I thought it would be! Very enjoyable, quick listen.

Its a bit gentle for my taste and a bit background

Good album No skips more background music throughout Good vary of slow/upbeat Best song a hazy shade of winter. 5 songs added to liked songs

Dreamy rock with some catchy tunes

Average

Such a easy listen. Very enjoyable. 3/5

Taustamusaa parilla hyvällä kipaleella varustettuna. Kolmonen on vähän yläkanttiin, mutta menköön

2 frægustu lögin fín... ekki fyrir mig America og Mrs Robinson

Supposedly a concept album, but I can't discern the story because the shadow cast by the singles is too long. Yeah, it's about "age", I guess, but that's some broad brush strokes. Still, some excellent songwriting on display. Unsurprisingly, really.

The duo have undeniable pop chops, but this record is far from Bridge's heights. The songs are polished and precious stones, but so is the package they come in: Hits do not a transcendent work make.

Sure, there are better S&G albums… Wednesday Morning 3am, The Sounds of Silence, Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme, Bridge Over Troubled Water…. but… I guess I’m not sure where I was going with that.

Nota:6/10

Starts a bit experimental then turns into a great nostalgic album.

It's just ok. I almost feel guilty for not liking it more; people I respect rave about Simon & Garfunkel. I've tried, and I just don't get it. Even in their best songs there are awkward segments that just don't do it for me. The sweeping majesty of America pauses to add some woodwind noodling at one point. It's just not that impressive to me.

Really liked the song Fakin' It

Fav tracks: Old Friends, Bookends (reprise), A Hazy Shade of Winter, America, Overs Worst tracks: Fakin it Algunas canciones me recuerdan a los Beatles y Bowie. A Hazy Shade of Winter fucking slaps

This is an okay album. Some recognizable classics. Probably won't seek it out to listen to.

hello darkness my old friend

Honestly better than I expected. I was worried it would be a little bland and uninteresting at times, but it had a lot more feel than I expected. Head bopping was much more prevalent than I thought it would be, and I mostly enjoyed the slower parts as well. Overall really good.

I was not on enough drugs to fully enjoy this.

Definitely suffers from following up Revolver. I think S&G will always be a greatest hits band for me. America, Mrs Robinson, Hazy Shade Of Winter are all fantastic, but some of the slower tracks just feel really insipid.

Pleasant to start then lost its way with atonal noodling in the middle!

They're on pot.

"Fakin' It," "Hazy Shade of Winter," and "At The Zoo" are great tracks. The rest were kind of boring.

one good song

Fine folk

its alright album, i guess it has a theme but the old people 'track' is a little bit odd

I'm torn on this one. Whilst not wanting to play it again, I did enjoy the second half quite a bit. The first half was certainly experimental, and unfortunately, some of those experiments didn't seem to work. Saying that, it was a lot better than the Simon solo album I had to listen to 2 days ago!

Buen disco, esperaba más

All of the classics are at the end of the album. One track is just recordings of old people. Basic stereo used and often feels unbalanced. I can understand why people take comfort from these songs and best of all they don't just sing about love.

Not really a big fan of Simon & Garfunkel. Mr Robinson is great and I recall liking some other stuff on the Graduate soundtrack but otherwise I find them kinda boring. I can understand why this record is important and probably loved by many but for me there are too many strings and things are generally just too sweet and meandering. Though it does get a bit more uptempo on side 2. Just my preference, but I prefer folk music (and music generally) with a bit more of an edge (regardless of tempo).

Well, I like a lot of S&G hits, but this album doesn’t do it for me. Simon himself says that the second side is full of throwaway tracks and that seems obvious to me, even if I like them more than the first side. I like the two big singles America and Mrs. Robinson of course. Fakin it and A Hazy Shade of Winter are ok, but not enough. No better than a 3/5

Nice album but not great. 3 great songs ("America", "Mrs. Robinson", "A Hazy Shade of Winter") and the rest were ok. Can't really call this a good album even though I'm a big fan of Simon & Garfunkel.

“Mrs. Robinson”, “A Hazy Shade of Winter” y “At the Zoo” una tras otra, maravilloso.

I went in not expecting much and I was right for most of the album. However, the last three songs were really good and unlike the rest of the album. Overall it wasn't the most interesting of albums, but the last three songs saved it for me. Favorite track: A Hazy Shade of Winter

Nice and chill, just not my thing.

Only 29 minutes long, so might as well be an EP. Still it felt like there was too much filler. The first half is a concept 'suite' and is mostly twee folksy numbers. The second half is a collection of short folk pop, ending with Mrs. Robinson, A Hazy Shade of Winter and At the Zoo, all of which are amazing. Good enough to bring my rating up to 3 star, just.

beautiful, happy, mixture of mellow and energetic songs, concept album representing life

Alvin i Teodor >>> Simon ovdje

Takes a while to get going (America aside) but there’s enough hits here to make it worthwhile.

Nice melodies

I don't think I like this album very much, too "artsy" for me. Liked a couple tracks tho.

Some classics in this album.

Concept album that sounds like a movie soundtrack. The familiar tracks are era-defining, but overall the whole didn't impress me. I guess you had to be there.

some classic songs - not totally convinced how it all hangs together as an album

Kinda weak, didn't care much for this

{shrug}

Zij weer.

Good album

Somber, very humbling music. Whole albums about death.

Mrs. Robinson is on this. Folky and easy to listen to. 6/10.

America, Mrs. Robinson and A Hazy Shade of Winter are amazing songs. Definitely some weird stuff in the album as well like Voices of Old People. Overall, I liked the album.

Mrs. Robinson is always fun, but the song that stood out to me listening to the album all the way through was A Hazy Shade of Winter with its foot-stomping energy. The Zoo was one that I hadn't heard before, but I enjoyed the lyrics a lot. Had a lot of similarities with Paul Simon's songs after he left. Had some duds though, I feel like this album is a good example of how the best songs from old artists trickle down through history while the less-than-great songs are pretty much forgotten. Would do 3.5/5 if I could for this variance in my enjoyment.

Prefer their other stuff. This felt like an odd mix.

They surprised me a little in a good way - more experimentation than I am used to thinking of them. For example I was NOT expecting for that synth to drop in Save the Life of My Child. Of course Mrs Robinson is an absolute classic. The end seemed abrupt, the way the last words of the album were "at the zoo..."

Good album, classic songs and songwriting.

Has some of their best songs on it. I can see why its a classic. But its less than 30 minutes, kind of jarring when it just ends so quickly.

3.5/5 Good folksy rock sound, little disjointed

Bit tepid at points but it's a nice piece of late 60s American innocence

enjoyed

Is Simon and Garfunkel that good where I've had to listen to 4-5 albums out of 1001?

Pretty good. I really like the songs America and Mrs. Robinson. Not one I'd listen to repeatedly, but it's not bad.

Good ol S&G. Didnt really care for it. Not good, not bad. Just not my type. Didnt know any songs on this one but won't listen to it ever again 🤷‍♂️ 3 stars

weird and folky

Was alright. Not my kind of music

It has Mrs Robinson and Hazy Shade of Winter

Again, just not my thing.

Love some tracks but the album is a bit hard to listen because some songs are quite unusual

Fairly good. Much preferred the B Side over A Side, namely because of ‘Mrs. Robinson’. Most of the album didn’t really grab my attention but that song and ‘A Hazy Shade of Winter’ were memorable.

Temazo Mrs. Robinson.

First half is tough to listen to. 2nd half is a mix of hits that were previously released.

This is whack. Sorry Simon

I know they’re icons, but I’ve realized that I only like a few of their greatest hits. Too slow for me.

Meh. Slow

It's all very flowy and dreamy, except Mrs Robinson, which really doesn't belong on this album.

Vas y c'est ok tier

Pretty dull. Some nice melodic songs but I wouldn't listen again. I'll give a 2

Smooth and soft vocals Great instrumentals Songs are too short but nice and chill vibes More so background music Good transitions in between songs but "Old People talking" ruins the entire listening experience imo. Not any memorable tracks. Great if you want something to put you to sleep. "America", "Mrs. Robinson" only good tracks It being 30min boosted it from a 1.5 to a 2

No. 2.3

Forgive me, Simon and Garfunkel. This just isn't doing it for me.

I love Simon and Garfunkel, but this album just isn't very good. The concept doesn't really work, and there are only about 2 and a half good songs on the album. And one of them is Mrs. Robinson, which is from a completely different album and was only included, I'm assuming, due to sales. I was very dissapointed listening to this album. On the plus side, I heard A Hazy Shade of Winter for the first time, which is a top 5 song of theirs in my opinion, so it wasn't a total loss.

I can hear the talent but apart from the obvious Mrs Robinson this album did nothing for me really

"oh hey it's got Mrs. Robinson" And that was all it had

good tunes but a bit too old for me

There were a couple tracks that stood out to me, “Old Friends” and “Punky’s Dilemma”. But nothing else was very noteworthy about the album.

Apart from the song that accompanied 'The Graduate' ('Mrs Robinson'), which is a classic and maybe 'America', this album has little to keep you occupied. I prefer 'Sounds of Silence' or "Bridge Over Troubled Water' or even 'Wednesday Morning, 3AM'.

Nicht meins

instrumental part is great but feels messy

How is this considered a great album, let alone one of S&G's best? The last 3 songs redeem it somewhat, but that first 20 minutes or so is a SLOG to get to Mrs. Robinson and Hazy Shade of Winter. Hard pass.

A random collection of snippets and tracks, that doesn't convince at all.

Boring

Not my cup of tea.

Not really my thing outside of Mrs. Robinson tbh. It's so 60's and so soft and I'm not really here for that? The synth at the start of Save the Life of My Child is kinda amazing though, I almost want to sample that in some kind of heavy electronic way. This being a concept album is also really fascinating! I think if I listened to it as a teen I would have been much more into it, but as it is it's a solid album that isn't really for me.

When young people were getting into rock and roll, oldies looked upon their music and found it dreadful. I imagine this album is one of the exceptions. It's calm and agreeable folk pop music with a bit of a poetic throughline. The skits really stretch out what would be a very tight album. Ultimately I didn't care for it. I wasn't in a good mood going into it and even Mrs. Robinson wasn't enough to hold this album up. There's a lot to appreciate here, but I'm not going to pretend I had a fun time, this was pretty boring. This album is best listened to very quietly in a silent room with a warm cup of cocoa.

Like when Adam Driver said Outer Space but it's the whole album

I don’t see what’s so amazing about this album. Mrs. Robinson is an all time classic but I wasn’t impressed by anything else

This sounds too dated for me to really enjoy.

Too dry and melancholic for me. Music and melody didn't quiet pick me.

New york Nostalgia back and journeying across america.

Thanks to this project I am getting down on Paul Simon. It's what beige sounds like. I compared it to a mouthful of mayonnaise. I do like Mrs Robinson and a Hazy Shade of Winter but otherwise pass.

Album#5 ----------- 1) 3/5 2) 2.5/5 3) 2.5/5 4) 2/5 5) 2/5 6) 2.5/5 7) 2.5/5 8) 3/5 9) 2.5/5 10) 3/5 11) 3.5/5 12) 2.5/5 ----------- This was another rough one. I either am not in the mood to listen to Folk music or I just don't like it. Might comeback to it if someone I know says they like it.

One good original song.

Never heard this album, expected to like it, since it's got some real classics, but the stuff I hadn't heard was really not good. All those concept album strings are groaning. It's ok, but I'd rather hear all its best songs in a Greatest Hits sequence then here.

otros beatles. siguente album

THIS ALBUM IS PRETTY GOOD! I loved the old friends song, while it’s not my style completely I can admire some of the lines and guitar in it!

fakin'it, mrs robinsoon, at the zoo, a hazy shade of winter

I was never gonna like this, really, but I was a bit surprised by the cool tape effect stuff on "Save the Life..." And "Voices of Old People" was kind of a cool idea if Rob Reiner hadn't stolen it for When Harry Met Sally. "Mrs Robinson" is a kinda cool song, as is "Hazy Shade," though The Bangles made it better.

The great songs can’t save this one.

The songs here are really the same thing again and again I still really enjoyed “Old Friends”, the rest were just boring. What was with the english muffins and the old people talking? I wouldn't listen to the album again, I could only fall asleep to it.

The vocals are nice and convey very well the nostalgic or melancholic feelings of the story the first half of the album is telling. Overall that story is ... endearing? I can at least say that I liked Voices of Old People. In terms of music, or instrumental music, it was really simple, and I was not satisfied or impacted by what the songs were trying to say. Idk if it's just not my style, that what I'm looking for can't be found in this type of music, or if maybe it was really that weak of an album.

Un tema muy mítico

Surprised to have found brilliant lyrics such as “wish I was an English muffin” haven’t give s&g a real go and look prob won’t again

Punky's Dilemma

I dunno, weird. Mrs. Robinson good

not really a huge fan because im not too into this kind of old music but actually not as bad as expected :)

Many of the songs on this album are great songs. Their presentation here is less than ideal. I would say that most, in fact probably all, of the enjoyable songs on this record are far more enjoyable in cover versions and/or live versions recorded years later. It surprised me how much I disliked the production on this LP. And also how grating I found Art Garfunkel's presence. Listening to the album I just kept thinking how much better Paul sounds on his own. The bonus track "At the Zoo" was my favorite, maybe because I wasn't familiar with it so it felt fresh.

Yeah, I don't know. It was all over the place. Every time I heard something that I liked, they changed it up immediately. Not for me.

I struggled through this one. Everything that made their previous album so amazing seems to be missing here and all you are left with is what feels like stuff that didn't make their previous album. There's a fine line between experimentation and craftsmanship, and this just feels like experimentation. Nothing really memorable and I found myself zoning out during a lot of the songs.

I remember listening to this prior to here because I really liked the songs "America" and "Mrs Robinson." I vehemently understood then why just because an album has some killer singles does not mean the rest is great and this is a exceptional example. Just mind numbing material, that's what it is. A 30 minute album dragging hard is completely crazy to me but It can happen I suppose. I also think Simon & Garfunkel stuff isn't for me, just to add to the negativity train. My reasoning is that because this album and the critically-acclaimed Bridge Over Troubled Water was miss. Some positive things to leave on a semi-good note is that, the aforementioned "America" Is a god-tier song. I first listened to that song from the Yes cover, which I didn't like, I then stumbled across the original not knowing at first it was the same song, and fell in love with it. Oh and "A Hazy Shade of Winter" isn't half-bad I s'pose. AND last but not least of the note-worthy songs is "Mrs. Robinson" which I don't need to state how good that classic is because it's just THAT good. Highlight Song/s: "America" and "Mrs Robinson"

Not really a fan. Wanted to like it but found it kind of boring. Favorites: old friends, fakin it, Mrs Robinson. Good harmonies, guitar playing, song dynamics (I liked when old friends built and reached a climax). Glad I listened but just didn't love it

This album sure feels like an odd mix that doesn't go together. Which is weird, because half of it is a 'concept' (which I never grasped onto), so you'd think it'd flow better. I don't know how to rate this. On one hand, you have some fantastic tracks like "America", "Mrs. Robinson", and "Hazy Shade of Winter". And then theres "Save The Life Of My Child", which is a odd sounding experiment mixing folk with Moog synthesizers and a vocal choir. Or, "Voices Of Old People", which is literally just that, which has no real redeeming relistening value. Despite the great songs, as an album, it's a mess, and not that great as a whole.

I liked this okay.

There are too many men on this list. Self important drivel.

Overall not my thing but Punky’s Dilemma is the cutest song I’ve ever heard 😭😭😭😭

Favourite tracks: Old Friends, A Hazy Shade of Winter A really interesting album with a range of different tracks. Of course, personally, I didn't favour the slow and moodier tracks but I did quite enjoy the orchestral elements in 'Old Friends'. While it might not be one of my favourites, 'Save the Life of My Child' is a track that it took me a couple listens to like. At first it was a bit jarring but after focusing on the lyrics a bit I enjoy the exploration of this scene of a kid about to jump. All in all, I don't think this album is for me. I know it's supposed to explore the theme of life and growing old but it just didn't click with me. The varying vibe of each track really didn't work. Maybe if the track order was done a bit better with the upbeat tracks at the start and the moodier tracks at the end then I would've like it. 2.5/5

Well, there's nothing wrong but I just did not like it that much.

This was an alright listen on my way to work. It got saved by 2 or 3 songs for me. Mrs. Robinson, A Hazy Shade of Winter, and I think Fakin' it were my favorites. Weird beginning, solid ending to the album. I don't think I will go searching to play this again, but would let it ride if it came on randomly. 5.2/10

Very average album. I like S&G but not this one. Highlights... Mrs Robinson America 4.5/10
