Reviews (page 12 of 13)
I mean.....I wouldn't personally call it "garbage," but it is pretty boring. Favorite tracks: A Stroke of Luck. Album art: Cool. Pink flowers, with a stencil sprayed "G" in the middle (but it doesn't actually seem sprayed on). Very bold and memorable, unlike the music. 2/5
Not for me
Once heard, that's enough. Quite passable - rather boring pieces. Nothing made me want to listen to it again.
Stupid Girl still sounds good, as it has a bit of a melody, a more considered production, and some space, but the bulk of this is straightforward Indie Rock Disco. Probably made more sense at the time, but this seems to be the worst of both worlds - simplistic plodding beats with basic distorted guitars.
..
Just could not get into this album. Not sure why
Not a big fan. Seems formulaic, almost Nirvana with a female lead and worse lyrics. It greatly picks up in the middle (Vow and Stupid Girl), but then dives off again.
Decent album, but not super adventurous. Not overly impressed. She has a really cool voice, but the guitar and lyrical content didn't blow me away. It could be the life experiences are different than mine. Solid playthrough and OK for background music. Non-offensive, but I think I remember her being an alternative darling.
I think this album was unique, and although I didn't like it, it gets a bonus point for being interesting and new
Jeg tror aldrig jeg har hørt et album med en tykkere 90er lyd. Og jeg hører rigtig meget musik fra 90erne.
Surprising that in the remaster they didn't make the vocals any easier to hear.
Sorta mixed industrial electronic beats/sounds with grunge. Kinda sounds a bit dated and outside of a few tunes it doesn't really stand out.
90s indie filler
Not for me.
Meh.
Doo doo do-do do-do doo you like choruses? Because you'll get them. Over and over. Same with silly, repeated phrases. The nostalgic feel makes me want to like this more than I do. The 90s rock/alt music is great, but this album in particular just hangs on to one repeated thing after another. Fav tracks: N/A
Ummm, actually liked this better than I thought I would. I doubt I would ever listen to it again, not a fan of electronic pop, but it didn't run me out of the room like some bands. I was impressed by the quality of the sound, very rich.
Flashback album
Oh dear. What makes people think this is good. Just a grungy noise.
Cool stuff musically, not a fan of the lyrics
I'm not a fan of yelling, but the music wasn't bad. Tim enjoyed it.
Meh. Ging mir nach paar Songs auf die Nerven.
Nicht mein Geschmack
Interesting but definitely not to my taste.
I had this album when I was young. What was up with 10 year old me and girl bands? Definitely not complaining though! This one failed to resonate with me as much as it did when I was a boy, though. For some reason, the grungy, melancholic tones put me in kind of a boring daze. "Stupid Girl" is still pretty good but I didn't really like the rest. 2 stars.
This album started super strong for me, but got boring after the first few songs, to the point where I almost DNF-ed it. Supervixen and queer were my favorites, and I would go back and listen to those two again, but not the rest of the album.
Eh it's fine I guess.
Didn't get into any of the songs
2.5/5
Only happy… and Stupid Girl are great. Queer is fine The rest is utterly meh
Notbas good as I remembered
Varsin mitäänsanomaton pop-rock-levy ysäriltä. Megahitin olinkin jo kuullut. 2/5
First three tracks were great. Good production, very good mix, some interesting compositional ideas, always simple but really efficient. After the songs are uninspired, always the same tricks : weird fun effect sound alone, bands kicks in, vocal in low range, chorus with a modulation and higher range vocal, repeat until fade out. Listening nowadays is a good flashback to the beginning of 2000's. 2,5/5
Vet faktiskt inte varför jag känner mig så tom inombords när jag lyssnar på detta. Det är ju inget större fel på musiken eller produktionen eller nåt annat. Men jag har hellre helt tyst i lurarna än lyssnar på detta.
In certain songs the signer is very breathy and whiny. Not my style but can see it being enjoyable as a background to a movie montage
Didn't land super well, but wasn't bad.
Not much to say about this one
Title says it all. Didn’t like them in the 90s and don’t like them today
Garbage by name
This wasn't overly engaging, the songs kinda blended together. But there were some good tracks. Definitely better than Moby.
Did not age well. The compressed drum sound, some questionable breaks, Trip Hop Beats…it’s a 90ies record, wich worked perfectly in the 90ies. But it is not timeless.
I tried liking Garbage for a girl and couldn’t do it. 15ish years later…
OK, but certainly nothing special.
Couldn’t finish it. Just so dated. Didn’t feel groundbreaking or forward thinking at all. Just 90s music.
Never really a fan of Garbage. Music is not bad, just find it boring here and there
Categorically does not belong on this list.
boring.
Sounds well produced and the sound is of it’s time, but failed to get me interested beyond the old singles
Wilde eigenlijk 2,5 sterren geven omdat er wel een paar leuke nummers op staan. Werd er voornamelijk heel zenuwachtig van.
Basically pop songs with alternative rock styling. But the alt rock styling is actually trying unlike 2000s-2010s era stuff I remember, so not the worst thing to be. Some nice parts (I like the chorus on Vow), suffers from this edgy-but-not-actually-edgy nihilist Nine Inch Nails thing in most verses. The thing about pop is that you need more than a good chorus to have a decent pop song. music: hated. (⌐■_■)
Can imagine liking this one more than I did. It’s got a good edge to it, pretty aggressive. For whatever reason it’s so hard for me to get past that drum sound that in so much 90s rock. That was the case here, and that’s what brings it down.
Not my idea of a good time. It sounds contrived; like music by Record Industry Committee. I can hear the pitch to the A&R guys - it's Trent Reznor darkness delivered by Elastica but with some Manchester beats thrown in! The problem is that Elastica was great because they didn't sound contrived. Their riffs were certainly derivative. But the derivation sounds adoring rather than calculated, as here. Shirley Manson doesn't sing dark lyrics as much as she sings lyrics about darkness - making her sound like so many well-adjusted suburban teens who decided to dress Goth because they liked the look. And the rave beats reinforce the feeling that the producer was just chasing fads.
A whole lotta meh.
Got bored halfway through. Not bad but top 1000? Probably more cultural impact than I know.
Too stuck in the 90s for my taste, instrumentals and songwriting just feel dated plus there's the obligatory unneeded breakbeat song. Agree with some of the others here who feel this one is an industry plant – the whole thing just feels a bit lifeless for how much of a spectacle it tries to be.
It has one hit on it and the rest is forgettable. Perfect for the list!
Not as bad as I feared. radio cuts mostly skipped, wild days the 1995 radio airways
Nearly an hour of listening to Shirley Manson sing... what did I do to deserve this? Actually, some tracks weren't that terrible. 2 stars.
A few good tracks but largely forgettable mid 90’s alt rock.
Not my jam really. As stated repeatedly in track 5 of the album "This is not my idea of a good time".
Endlich wieder ehrliche, handgemachte Rockmusik! Es ist mir schon beim ersten Song zu sehr 90er… Habs nicht zu Ende gehört. Nicht mein Fall.
Actually quite liked it, got some nice songs, need to listen again
Didn’t finish but know the vibes 2.5/5
90s trash
Ok
Nostalgia
Cool to see women represented in alt/grunge but this album was not memorable for me. All sounds a little bland and lyrics are pretty self-harming and somewhat idealizing abusive relationships. Kinda like Pearl Jam, I feel like there are early 90’s grunge or alt groups that I personally enjoy a lot more. 2 stars
The hits are still great, the rest is some rough 90s filler
Don't really understand why this album made the list. not bad but also not special.
There's a definite element of juvenile tantrum in some of these songs and I get a distinct 'emo' vibe. But there's some good stuff here too (probably the ones I recognise from airplay). Maybe I should give it another listen.
Genre: Rock, alternativ typ. Bästa låt: Stupid girl? Lyssnade inte på hela. Inte min typ, halvtråkigt. Händer inte så mkt.
It might have been a bad day, bui I didn't enjoy it.
Garbage is right
Garbagio
What an edgy band name. This album was pretty much known for the couple popular songs on it but other than that it’s a lot of pop punk material that misses. A weird blend of genres that only the 90s could produce. 4.6/10
Hmm
boring
Sure, 90's kinda grunge and kinda rock, but with kinda pop tossed in? It was generally ok but they lost me with that last bit.
Grunge-wave pop grown in a lab to appeal to the existing market. It feels just as false now as it did when it was released. Individually, if you strip it to the component elements, it's competent, but the moment you stick this stuff into a blender and get this album, it's messy, unfocused, cynical. Not a fan.
old
I'm 50 god damn years old, I don't need to re-visit Garbage.
Is this grunge? I can see this music being in a movie or show about an angsty teenage girl from the 90s or early 2000s. I am really not a big fan of this. It has musical merit and I can see why someone might like it, but not me. The instrumentation is boring and dated, and the way the lead singer sings is not enjoyable to me. This is a 2/5
In some ways, this held up better than I expected, but I think the songs get weaker as the album goes on. I think if they’d winnowed down their songs and made a 35 minute album, this might have hit me harder.
2.5. Not bad. But doesn't really do much for me.
Garbage but not trash. That said this album is not my idea of a good time
Not a fan
This record hits about the same as it did in the 90's, which is just a solid "s'alright". I appreciate a lot of what's going on on this album, but it's not music that really wows me and I don't think I've ever really chosen to listen to a Garbage album.
For a brief moment, Garbage were everything and Shirley Manson ruled all she saw. But, in hindsight, they lacked that magical ingredient which would grant them longevity. Their sound was a slightly contrived, by-the-numbers US-alt-rock which got credibility within the Britpop milieu due to Manson. Always radio friendly, it was fun while it lasted.
It started out pretty good... liked the sound but idk if the album got worse or I just lost interest... torn between a 2 and a 3.
Didn't care for them when they debuted, still don't 30 years later.
This checkmarks zero boxes for me. Sugary sweet grunge. Candy grunge. Crange. Cange. Grundy.
I never really got why this album was so well regarded. I always wanted to like them because as a pre-teen Shirley Manson certainly caught my eye; but the singles were all "meh" and upon hearing the non-singles I find them to be "meh" as well. No beautiful front woman can salvage that. The next album had some better singles, not sure if the whole ehing is good or not though and probably never will know.
Het lukt niet eens echt om hun naam eer aan te doen. Dit is op zn best middelmatige rommel. Net niks dus, in geen enkel opzicht.
Fairly bland.
A bit slick for me and the singles didn’t have the impact I seemed to remember them having. Kinda average, not an album someone must hear.
"Vig explained that as in his opinion 'the most exciting bands are those who incorporate all those elements of punk, funk, techno, hip hop, etc.' Garbage would attempt to do the same and 'take those influences and make them work in the context of a pop song.'" That is from the wikipedia article on Garbage. You guys know that I'm not a big fan of the "genre" of "grunge." Not, mind you, that I dislike Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, etc. I think the genre is some stupid marketing ploy to convince people that this disparate music that came from a scene is somehow linked by a unique sound which is utterly preposterous bullshit. That being said, Garbage is a record that is "grunge." It's a pop record with bandmates made of a production team that was en vogue and very instrumental to that scene's rise. They got bored, started dicking around making remixes and then said shit, we should be a band. We can take all these different sounds we love and combine them into a pop behemoth. Over the years, there have been many disparaging remarks from many of the type of folks who enjoy this band's music about bands like Coldplay and Muse being corporate entities playing to the lowest denominator. I've always found that to be a particularly weird thing to say of a band. Certainly, there have been corporately produced bands throughout the years, The Monkees and NSYNC immediately come to mind. Not to say that these bands were not talented, hell Neil Young auditioned to be a Monkee and in an alternative reality, he made it and the course of history and music is very different in that timeline. We all know that Justin Timberlake is a very talented musician as well. But to say these modern bands that made it big were somehow created and to use that as a way of demeaning their fans and music was just odd to me. Garbage's record has some undeniable hits. Stupid Girl, Queer, Vow... they're good pop songs. Very of their moment and time. Hell production wise, they might even be a bit cutting edge. The album does take the sonics of the burgeoning Trip Hop scene of the time (Portishead, Massive Attack) and brings it to the alternative scene. It's all very marketable and pretty much manufactured that way. This is a band of producers who found a unique singer who was otherwise failing and gave her a platform of polished sounds of the times. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. If you like it, you like it. It is what it is. There is nothing even bad about this record, you could even point out several things in this write up that show this album deserves to be on this list. It is an album of its time, it kind of sums up the total of the hip pop music scene of the mid 90s and hell, that's important in and of itself. As a long time consumer of critical writing, I know that a lot of people look at the score before they read or decide to read a review and if you've done that, you probably wonder why the score seems so discordant to the words written here. The thing is, it is completely a record of the moment, not just in the sound presented as a snapshot of the totality of music at the time it was released, but in that it is fleeting and ultimately unmemorable. Moments after even Stupid Girl plays, it fleets from the mind. I think the fervent fans must have been so enamored with the lush sound that they played it on repeat by pressing that magic button on their discman until it did become the earworm it so desperately wants to be. None of it makes any mark on me. Just as Spooner and Anglefish ultimately did not make a mark on music other than being previous projects by the two biggest talents involved in this. Manson is a capable singer, who desperately wants to be a Beth Gibbons but beyond her striking looks, doesn't find the sound or content to compete. Vig is a producer of some talent. Love him or hate him, he had his finger in the pulse of the music of this time - maybe so much that he made a record that showed how fleeting that actual pulse is. It's remarkable that he did get to work with bands who did make remarkable records under his watch and he even gave them a little of his own thing to help define a sound, an alternative to the pop rock, glam metal, glossy r n b, etc. He helped make Punk poppy. Which is a double edged sword, good and bad. The music was brought to the masses and changed everything much for the better before the internet came along to emancipate the populace from their corporate music industry shackles. Ultimately, this is the sound of that freedom and maybe that's why it doesn't make the impression that it should. It's an important record that five hundred years from now (assuming man has not destroyed itself) will not be remembered. Utlimately, Garbage, Manson, and Vig will be footnotes to musical history much like Antonio Salieri.
I don't remember 'I'm Only Happy When It Rains' sounding like this, perhaps I remembered a completely different song?! I heard that if you put the CD case down on any surface, even the most perfectly flat surface known to man, it would slide off because the production on this is so slick. (I made that up) 'Not My Idea' is a terrible song. 'Stupid Girl' sounds like I remember. 'As Heaven Is Wide' and 'Stupid Girl' are alright, everything else is fairly forgettable, except 'Not My Idea' which is fucking awful and something I imagine everyone involved with the band says whenever they hear the song again. 2 / 5 stars.
Not my cup of tea
Good time machine but not a memorable album for me.
Well, if the artist doesn't sum this up enough, then the album title does. LOL. This actually wasn't terrible, but it did feel like all the songs were the same.
just kind of boring
Decent 90s jams
Fine but generally just a generic 90s listen, nothing standing out and a bit muddy sounding
sonic youth pero más zzz
Idk, it was pretty whatever. I'm sure it was of its time, but (oddly), this kind of music just doesn't appeal to me. Standouts: Queer, Only Happy When It Rains, Not My Idea, Vow, My Lover's Box
Goodbye Mr McKenzie was a better album...
Miellekästä musiikkia.
It sounds like it is stuck in the 90’s Overproduced but vocals are smooth Didn’t like it then not any better now
Id say this is a bit too much for me. didnt love it, didnt hate it. nothing really stuck in my mind
weird
I was suspecting that this would be something that maybe just slipped through the cracks and would maybe even be good. But nah... my initial reaction was right. Samesie 90's mush. Next.
Supervision and Stupid Girl aside, didn't hear much that was of interest
Not my thing.
Apart from the hit singles I didn't like this album.
Only Happy When It Rains and Supervixen are okay and recognizable, the rest is not that interesting imho. Nothing too bad either though, just not something I would revisit.
2.5
greit nok
I'm not too sure what to say about this album. I've never been a big fan of this grungy alt rock that was popular in the 90's. Musically it sounds fine if a bit derivative. Maybe I've just listened to too much modern music to apprieciate that this was quite fresh for the 90's but I don't think the production has held up particularly well. Where it really loses me is the vocals. Lyrically very wishy-washy and I find her vocals very annoying. In way she gives the the impression she's the sort of person to complain about literally everything and it rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's an unfair comparison but if you put PJ Harvey over the same instrumentation I'd probably enjoy this a lot more. I get this album but it just wasn't for me. 2.5
not a huge fan. they're clearly talented, but sometimes there is just too much production. Like this.
Nicht ganz uninteressant, aber doch kolossal langweilig.
Blei litt lei av garbage i Rock Band 1 elns
Liked the instrumental parts, especially the guitar. The lyrics, not so much. Vocals were mediocre. I'd like the album much better without any singing.
Catching up. Only gave it a couple tracks to catch me. Didn’t work. Won’t bother making the joke.
Pretty typical 90’s alternative - beyond the hits that got a lot of radio play it’s a pretty shallow offering.
i didn't enjoy it that much, just not my type of music
Hmm not as good as remember hasn't aged well
Very woooooshy. Tracks "Queer" and "Only Happy When It Rains" are pretty nice, but even those are soft hits. Not so long later, I will remember 0 things about this album, or maybe just one: the name.
I've always considered Shirley Manson garbage. Love the 90's brand she personifies, her look but and her voice. But aside from her larynx, she was merely the right person at the right time. A paper doll without much substance. Everyone was certain this band would be big with Vig assembling it for studio time. Once the album was released, the PR / Marketing machine pushed Queer with disappointing results. Happy When it Rains came out afterward and started to build an audience. Though some of these songs are catchy, and the style of the band is perfect for the time it existed, it's important to note that this was all carefully crafted and built to be a Nirvana / Smashing Pumpkins replacement for the mid/late '90's. All Shirley Manson needed to do is walk the walk. It's the manufactured band brand that makes me hate music while simultaneously enjoying it. At the end of the day it's hollow and makes me feel used and incomplete. Additional albums followed with much the same recipe with declining success and the band finally cashing out in 2005. I love the sound of some of these songs and the production value is magnificent ... but I can't help feeling like I've sold my soul. It's a sickening feeling and a harsh reality, but never a guilty pleasure.
For a band with such a cool front woman and a direct connection to THE landmark album of the 90s... I've always wondered how it is that Garbage's music sounds so dang tame. If there was an undercurrent of punk/garage it could've improved the entire endeavor, imo.
Garbage are a band that I've never found pleasant on the ear. Just can't warm to them. 2.5
Garbage.
Mid-nineties uber producers form their own band and stick a singer on. You just know all the music videos had scratches all across them and cigarette burns. Gnarly. Best Tracks: I'm Only Happy When It Rains; Vow; Stupid Girl
Erg zeurderig maar wel een aparte sound
Why? This album and band have always been painfully average.
Normally i love female lead rock, but the was of they time where everything seems a bit muted sonically, like they accidently turned something off in the studio. Also, a lot of it is a bit miserable.
It’s alright. Not my style of music
Sounds very dated in a bad way. This is the archetype of an aesthetic which became ubiquitous and that I find tacky. In time this sound will probably come to be perceived as merely quaint and passe but at the present it comes across as awkward and embarrassing. I was a teenager during the time period in which this came out. It didn't appeal to me then and I have no nostalgia for it now. Garbage indeed.
Extremely bland. This album was so middle of the road in terms of sound and lyricism that I'm going to cut my review short in before I bore myself more by remembering details about garbage.
49%
Not bad, but not attention-grabbing either. Some interesting lyrics. Feels very '90s (for better or worse).
Not a fan of the genre, but giving it two stars because i can see why someone would like it
I'm just glad it's over. I did not like the lyrics or instrumentals. Could have been worse.
The opening song, Supervixen, is a good one to start the album off. The problem is that every other song sounds just like the first one. Too formulaic for my tastes. Too bad because the talent is there.
Garbage indeed
It's OK. Stupid Girl stands out a mile though.
Tuneless mock-rock that shamelessly cashes in on the sound of that era, but with total bollocks songwriting chops and soulless singing. I can't believe this stuff got airplay. Aptly named band. I'll not be listening to this band ever again.
Ok nothing spectacular
I thought it was pretty good but definitely not my genre of Choice
Very repetitive. Not particularly enjoyable
A pretty polished pop album with a couple of decent songs on there. However on the whole I found myself very bored while listening
Like a watered down, female version of NIN. Shallow and disposable.
Stupid Girl great song, don't rate the rest of the album
.
Quintessentially 90's sound, Stupid Girl by far the best song. The rest I could take or leave.
Nah
For an alt rock record, there are some interesting sounds being explored here. There's some NIN influence I think, given the timeframe and the drum loops mixed with darker guitar tones. Not explicitly industrial but you can hear some semblance of the genre. I don't think Shirley Manson's vocals aren't quite for me, but I can appreciate the songwriting. A very 90's record.
Not amazing but I don’t hate it. I am trying not to make the obvious joke about “garbage by name garbage by nature” I actually thought it was okay but not my usual sauce.
Meh
Kind of ok, but a bit samey and not much that is memorable. Style over songwriting substance? Stupid Girl is a banger though.
Very 90s. Ok but not sure why it's on this list
I liked this album but is too "simple". I know that maybe it was revolutionary for 1995, but nowadays it's just another indie rock band without anything great for me. Sure, I'm biased by the fact that I didn't know anything about Garbage, so I don't have any affective memory with it, but it's an album that I probably will forget tomorrow.
trash
If I came of age in the mid-90's, I definitely woulda been the type of guy who was asked "hey you listen to this new killer track by the wallflowers?" and I would have responded "ugh that shits garbage. And not the good kind of garbage like the debut album by the band of the same name". But I didn't come of age in the 90's and this album really doesn't do it for me.
so 90s meh + 1 for milk
In the Netherlands they had some 7 small hits. A nice album but I don't think I will give it a relisten.
Not garbage
rock punk pop ? nothing great
Just didnt do it for me
very boring
Apt description - garbage
Kan något åldras sämre? Som en parodi på 90-talet
Det här var dåligt. En etta får det bli, men kanske min starkaste etta hittills. Nästan tvåa, men inte riktigt.
not really my kinda music
It's all in the name
Garbage
They got the right title 1
ew
very much not my style of music, it seems like it was game changing at the time but not for me
Es demasiado largo, pero más allá de eso, el género no me gustó para nada. Creo que es rock alternativo. Escuché la primera parte de un par de temas y no escuché más.
Aptly named album. “Vow” almost bumped this to a 2 star, but the bad songs are so bad 90s…
This album is garbage.
Not my favorite
Garbage.
The album title and band name sum it up perfectly
Repetitive and just not really enjoyable to listen to in my opinion
Not for me
“The queerest of the queer” yeah that’s you lol 😂 This band really lived up to their name with this one… nah not terrible haha but nothing memorable for me here personally. Thinking closer to 1.5
I rate this album 1/5 beach balls. Fuck Shirley Manson and her lame ass band.
Naporno do jaja 1/5, 1/10
Detritus
Over produced indie by numbers
Smells terrible.
Uh.
this is like if the band from Freaky Friday was real
It's not my vibe at all really but i could get behind some songs favs: 1 2 3
Nope
90s slop
Bit soulless to be honest, not a fan
90s movies soundtrack vibes - tried really hard to like it just not my thing. Fav song : Stupid Girl
Really don't like.
Alien Sex Fiend almost made me given this album a 2. Almost. Then the song kept going.
Dette var søppel
Garbage
1. zuper - 1 2. queer -1 3. rainz - 1 4. heaven - 0 5. idea -1 6. luck - 1.5 7. vouuu - 1 8. girl - 1.5 9. dog -1 10. boz - 1 11. fiz - 0 12. milk - 2
Not for me. However I can appreciate how iconic this album must have been when it was released and the impact it had on future generations of indie and rock artists
The name says it all…..GARBAGE!!!
Okay, this is the first one I feel I have enough context and familiarity to wonder why it's on this list. I liked it fine in H.S., but even then "Only Hair When it Rains" felt a little disingenuous, or at least like a lyric that's trying too hard and also not hard enough. It brings back some memories, but I don't know that I feel one *must* listen to it.
Total hoax, the product of focus groups and market research. Polishing every rough edge of the production to a sparkle is directly at odds with the attempt to be edgy. Shirley Manson plays the role of dominatrix, ingenue, crazy desperate girlfriend, sex doll. It is engineered for suburban teenage masturbation. You might as well go buy a T-shirt at the mall that says "I'm a rebel."
Compared to predecessors such as Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine Garbage is a boring droning mess. It possesses no memorable hooks and is buttressed by the well worn alternative music standby, fuzzy grinding guitars. You’re better served by listening to The Bends, Different Class by Pulp, or Bjork’s Post.
Garbage is right
Not into it.
Not interested.
Garbage
I can see why this was groundbreaking at the time, but there’s just nothing enjoyable about it for me now.
I like the synth noises they make. The rest of it is totally uninspiring, slightly edgy pop music. We were so cringe in the 90s (actually, you all were cringe. I was a wee baby). There are some interesting departures into instrumental breaks, but otherwise it's formulaic and all over the exact saaaame 4/4 beat. Like... everything is so boring, the lyrics, the composition, the riffs, the melody, the percussion especially, this album absolutely limps. I skipped most songs halfway through. Why did I need to hear this before I die?
Ist nicht meins
Ikke særlig stor fan. Bliver for ensartet efter bare to sange, men måske er punk-rock bare ikke min stil. Desuden bliver fraser som "I'm only happy when it rains" brugt som simpelthen er lidt tåkrummende.
vapse man nepatiko, net nepaklausiau normaliai, tipo nera gal bloga muzika, nu bet man toks zanras nu uh
Not to make the obvious joke, but for me it really is in the name: garbage. To quote a song on the album, “this is not my idea of a good time”. Truly did not enjoy this at all and in fact at one point genuinely yelled, out loud alone in my car, “I f*cking hate this!” I’ve committed to no skips so I stuck it out but it wasn’t worth it. Everything about it just annoyed me, the vocals, but I think especially the production and mix. The only track I found tolerable was Fix Me Now.
To me, this sounds like royalty free rock music with bad vocals layered over it. I struggle to find any redeeming qualities of any song in this album.
Garbage
3 На один очень долгий и мучительный раз. Куча заунывных треков с максимально однообразным звучанием и одним и тем же посылом
Not it boss.
Not my cup of tea.
First album of this project that I really, really disliked. It starts off well enough with some 90's grunge/garage rock and it devolves into a cheezy 90 movies action movie soundtrack that gets worse every single track. Couldn't take it seriously towards the end. Best Song: Run For the Hills Rating: 2/10 1 Stars
Real garbage
Garbage by Garbage was garbage.
Ok right off the bat I am nervous to hear this. I don’t like when the music has that weird screeching noise, and I definitely don’t like when the singers have that angsty voice. Let’s just say, they’re living up to their name.
Laughably more insincere, passionless, and fake than most of the so-called hair bands of the 80s. Sure some of these were big hits and when I saw this as today's album I felt a bit of nostalgia but after listening ... it actually sucks. I probably didn't notice at the time since I only heard the radio hits but listening decades later I just hate the sound of this album which combined with the completely generic at best mid-90s music... zzzz Absurdly specific complaint: the opening cut "Supervixen" - those terrible (and horribly edited, like wtf) full-stops are so fake, it's utterly obvious in the worst way that this is not the band stopping on a dime for a beat. Or even really a band. I like electronic music - I like "sterile" constructed-in-the-box compositions - but this sounds like a 7th grader put this together and it foretells the entire record. TL;DR: I didn't expect I'd hate this as much as I did today. In retrospect you can do infinitely better for "mid 90s female-fronted rock" (immediate e.g.: Elastica, Cranberries, Letters To Cleo, Cardigans, PJ Harvey, etc etc....) if that's why this album is even on this list. And Shirley Manson was kind of a 90s icon but was kind of a shit/nothing singer. I know there are albums I've ranked a 2 that I probably think are worse than this but the passionless - pun intended - garbage is nothing I want to hear again. 3/10 1 star.
Album name is correct
Oh man, that is really REALLY bad, even for the 90s.
Inte för mig. Skränigt. Daterat. Lyssnade inte klart
Awful. Couldn't finish.
Terrible album.
I despised this aside from the singles. If an album makes me yearn for Hole …
Not good when release, still not good no idea how it made this list
This album sucks. I much prefer Garbage 2.0. Stupid Girl is obviously a banger but otherwise it's pretty void. I can see why it's on the list because it was influential, but a lot of the time the first pass of something is pretty crappy, and that definitely applies here.
2 stars
The name is more than fitting.
No thanks
Chick version of Nirvana. Utterly unoriginal.
This has not survived the ravages of the years.
literally garbage
A new one for me. I don’t know this album. Only happy when it rains: sounds ok. Stupid girl: hmm, not very interesting. Supervixen: I think it’s not my theme, maybe for another period in another life. Musically more interesting then the other songs. But boring in the elaboration.
Grunge rock.
Alternative 90s noise without much Melody or distinction frôm the fray.
Garbage
The band name suits their music
Garbage
Name fits. Didnt listen to everything
nazwa zespolu i albumu mowi sama za siebie - "garbage"
Garbage.. Da holt mich leider nichts ab..
What an awful, dissonant opening to the album. It sounds like the samples have been processed by an asshole - not calling Butch Vig and asshole here, I certainly don't think he's that, the man's a legend - no, I mean a literal asshole. If you passed a sample through the digestive tract of a walrus, it would sound like the opening 30 seconds of this album. However, after that we get into some nice melodic indiy rock wonkiness. This is an underwhelming album. I always felt Garbage were overrated and this listen confirms it for me. Whilst they are/were somewhat unique at the time, it was really for things that make them less interesting to me - they were grunge but without the rough edges or authenticity, more mainstream, more clean-edge; they were Skunk Anansie without the bite. Not that great.
Grab Tarismo sound track Great background for school
Too hard…
Not a big fan of grunge metal music.
Trash.
This is a banger, and I know bangers!
Wasn't my favorite in the 1990s, and it's even worse in the modern ear.
Sucked. It's garbage.
I got a few songs in and bailed. It just sounded terrible. Crazy that probably my favorite sounding album (Siamese Dream) was also produced by Butch VIg. 1 Star because hey why not.
Didn't listen to it
It lives up to its name.
At least we knew what to expect
Ah, so it's not just a clever name.
In the context of albums to listen to before you die, this one just doesn't hold up at being significant enough to count. Decent generic 90s rock otherwise.
Cool production but not really my thing
Garbage.
Garbage
Not great
I feel like this album was a lot easier to love back in the 90's, much of the soundscape seems focused on that patented 90's 'tude. By the end of the album I was able to get into the groove a bit, but it seems to just end abruptly on the track "milk"
So dull.
Not for me.
Not digging it. Some of these songs I can't believe someone heard the lyrics/moaning and said "Yup, that's a good song!" Too much angst for this boy. Stupid girl < Dumb du du dumb dumb Girl
Whoever named this album deserves an award!!!! This has to only be on the list bc it’s one of the best named albums compared to whats put on the music set. This music was made for girls who say they’re not like other girls but at the end of the day they are. They all get Starbucks, wear uggs, and then stop talking to you for a month while you’re dating and then eventually break up with you because they’re cheating on you with an accounting major who looks like a thumb. And then to cap it all off they’ll get in a relationship the second it hits midnight on your birthday and have the audacity to text you like 20 minutes later saying “happy birthday”. Or so I’ve heard that’s the stereotype of basic bitches
Did not like thought it was boring.
Don´t like this (anymore), does nothing to me and even irritates me somehow now and then. Weird. So garbage indeed.
Not my music
Garbage by garbage was garbage
Total garbage… didn’t need a 5 hour+ reissue did it. Sot Only Happy When It Rains As Heaven Is Wide Dog New Tricks 1/5
usch och fy vilket tråkigt ljud
I am completely unimpressed by this album. I must be missing something! To me it just sounds really boring. The recordings and arrangements just sound really… square? There’s some interesting sounds, sonically, but overall I feel like I’m being beat over the head repeatedly. The lyrics I tuned into are all pretty corny. I must be missing context! I dunno… maybe all of the ways this album was groundbreaking or original have now been beaten to death. To me, it sounds boring, slow, and square. I don’t think it should be on this list.
Couldn't make it through the first track.
This like the kinda music if one of the characters from zoey 101 was going through a alternative phase
Not for me
I just don't love the music or the vocals here. Not my style.
blech
By far the worst album I’ve had so far. Not a fan.
90’er rock, ucharmerende, garbage
Huh look at that - Garbage band name, Garbage album name, garbage music. 3/10.
Did not finish, not my style I suppose
Angsty grunge. Not for me, Jeff.
Tried. Couldn't get into it. Recognized the singles from movies and random pop culture references. Not for me. 1/5
Only checked out 2 songs but it was meh
It wasn’t good. her voice isn’t it
Not the best, idk why she decided to autotune her voice because i could barely hear it
I never liked Garbage. I was right.
Not into it.
pretty garbage actually. Bad mixing, difficult to listen to
Yep. Mostly garbage. I don't need this kind of misery whilst locked down during a pandemic. I found one track I was able to listen to until he end. We must be due something good tomorrow?
