Reviews (page 7 of 13)

I don't trust any of you rating Jimi 2 stars

not his best work, and some janky tracks in there. but can't deny the guitar work is incredible

Can see why it's highly rates but no reason for me to go back to

Class - some real bangers on there. Little wing, castles made of sand.

The good tracks are so good it brings up the rating, bit of filler but overall a great album

★★★★½

Always a wonderful album to listen to. As a 29 year old, I love these classics and a good reminder of simpler times full of great music. Thanks Jimi

Listened to this before years ago, but nevertheless was a fun revisit. Amazing mixing, tasteful psychedelic guitar from one of the best to ever do it. These guys can SWING. Some of the songs on the B side didn’t blow me away. 4/5

Cleaner sound than it's predecessor, but not as high quality on the songs, except "Little Wing", which I absolutely adore. 4 stars

Pretty good album. Favourite songs: Ain’t no telling, little wing, you got me floatin’, castles made of sand, one rainy wish. The first few songs had me concerned that this wasn’t going to be good but it eventually hit its stride. I did find the panning on some songs annoying. 4 stars

This is the first time I've listened to a full Hendrix album and not just the hits. I am surprised with the variety of sounds

Very weird. There are no memorable choruses or riffs but the guitar-drum interplay and studio effects are mezmerizing.

# Playlist track - Castles Made Of Sand # Notes - I was expecting more of a guitar shredding all-around experience and, boy, I'm glad to be wrong. - Jimi's guitars are front and center, of course, but there is plenty variety to keep the listening experience interesting and fresh from start to finish. - The intro track, Exp, is a bit boring and "If 6 as 9" overextends the noisy solo. Taking a star out for that. - Still, a very recommended listen for anyone, not only rock fans.

OK, "EXP" is everything you wish Jimi Hendrix wouldn't do. Come to think of it, there are some sequencing problems with this one. I'll have to rearrange things and make an Axis: Bold as Love: Sorted playlist. Start it with "Spanish Castle Magic," pretty sure.

Iconic album. Great imagery and vibes, though I can't figure out a lot of it. The musicality really ramped up in the second half, which elevated it for me; still not something I'd typically reach for.

This is a funny album. Super lighthearted Jimi. Great music, funny lyrics. Especially timely with the drone thing going on right now

A genius guitar player, and pretty decent at the singing and writing too. Plenty of hits here, plenty to love. I think there are more complete albums, some that utilize more sources of music, but this rules nonetheless.

Pretty damn good. Happy with this album. Beaut slice of time, place, experimentation and dynamism. Will re-listen to this in the future. 4 stars.

Hendrix came back around pretty quick! most of what I said in my review of Are You Experienced applies here as well; considering Axis was released just half a year after their debut, it features the Experience in a very similar element. Hendrix's sound-play continues to get slightly more adventurous here, but this might actually be a little more accessible than Are You Experienced! there's plenty of mellower cuts here like "Little Wing", "Spanish Castle Magic", "Up From the Skies" and "Castles Made of Sand", all of which capture the Experience's sensational interplay while also delivering some fantastic, catchy melodies. although you can tell Hendrix and his team didn't have as much time to create and refine the material here, Axis still does a great job of documenting this band's tremendous talents. light 8/10.

"Little Wing" is what you calls an eternal classic. a beautiful love song penned by the best guitarist in the whole rock history. the only problem of the song is it's too short. some of the songs are that boring type of blues rock, only become better because of jimi's guitar playing. but it randomly slaps hard. 3.5/5

Sucker for a dumb radio intro - and then we hit this bouncy thing that is probably a lot better if you're smoking weed and doing something in addition to listening to music. It's uphill from there, though - that nice Hendrix guitar sound is in full effect. I thought I wouldn't be interested in listening to 40 minutes of it, but I kept waiting for the moment when my interest would wane and, well, it didn't. That said, some songs are definitely not as Big as the Big Ones, but goddamn the dude can play a guitar.

This one was truly Bold As Love.

Nice f*****g guitar. First time listening to Hendrix and it doesn´t disappoint

Maybe unluckily for this album, I've had it after Electric Ladyland, which feels like an untouchable showcase of what Hendrix could do, both as a virtuoso and a visionary of the complete, wider production of the album. Axis seems smaller in scope and where there are flashes of his genius and some fantastic songs, it still feels like he's finding the direction he wanted to take us, or perhaps the exact destination. If this was the only Hendrix Experience album it might be even more impressive to me but it does suffer from the fact that I now know he will go on to reach even higher heights. I personally found this album a bit difficult to get into as well; it didn't flow naturally and feels like a smorgasbord of nearly-finished ideas. But when you're dealing with these levels of genius and innovation, even a nearly-finished idea can be something pretty special.

Weak start but every track past Up From The Skies is at least a 6/10. Favorite tracks were Spanish Castle Magic, You Got Me Floatin' and If 6 Was 9

Суперский альбом, который мне понравился больше, чем Лейдилэнд и А Ю Экспириенсд. Будто бы более человечная музыка, без бессмысленного дрочилова. Лучшая песня - Little Wing.

Really great musician

My least favorite of his three albums but still good.

Great album honestly, even though it isn’t part of my music taste, I can understand the greatness of Jimi Hendrix as someone who isnt into rock as much.

Great album from the master guitarist.

I liked it. I think I need a few more listens

groovy funky smokey tokey

I think I like this one more than Electric Ladyland, and while I don't know how controversial that is, I quite enjoy how compact yet thoroughly enjoyable this album is. The guitar playing is raw and powerful, but feels like it is keeping up appearances just enough to be groundbreaking instrumentally, and this album does a fantastic job showing off Hendrix's tapents without sacrificing the audiences attention. I think the only flaw is that some of the tracks fall a little too much into the late 60s stereotype, and so the vocal heavy tracks can feel a bit dated, but this is still an excellent rock record, perhaps the best instrumentally for the time that I've heard, but that was to be expected with Hendrix at the helm.

Like a lot, but love the jimi hendrix experience album even more

This has never been my favorite Hendrix album, but it's a strong showing with at least a few of his best songs in "Spanish Castle Magic," "Little Wing," and "Castles Made of Sand." I always liked the sketch-like intro of "Exp" setting the tone even if it's not really a song and is entirely skipable, with its bookend of "Bold as Love" driving a gradual build to an almost epic finish. And I love listening for all the big and little engineering tricks being pioneered throughout. There are weaknesses, though. In particular I find "Up From the Skies"to be a wishy washy opening tune, though it might feel more at home in a different sequence. "If 6 was 9" seems a bit disjointed in the flow as well, or maybe the song just feels flat to me. The rest of the album is fairly solid, most of them with moments that do get their hooks in me, but not as consistently exceptional as the tracks on Are You Experienced.

I tried to listen and wasn't in the mood. Now I'm revisiting I quite like it. It's pretty jammy and a lot less tight than are you experienced. I can see the future of punk in some parts of this album. Highlights: Castles made of sand. 3.5/4!

Some good Jimi ! Some great ones, some less ! But it is still something particular ! You can't hate that ! Little Wing / 100

Very Jimi Hendrix. Funky beat, weird lyrics and he’s not too bad on the guitar considering he should be a bass player

badass

Не моё

Es jimi, no discusión.

Really captures that jam band kind of feel. Songs flow one into the next, rarely feels like a break in between songs. A good time.

Great guitar, average everything else

My first time listening to a Hendrix album and no surprise: it’s pretty great. No real “hits” on this but really good and solid songwriting that are really wel delivered.

Excellent record!

Great album. Except for the confusing first track "EXP". At first I thought maybe I was listening to the wrong thing.

I appreciate the historical significance, but there’s honestly not very much here that’s super impressive to people with the subsequent ~60 years of music history available to them.

I'll start by noting that all three stdio albums released in Jimi Hendrix's lifetime are in the 1001. Of those three, this is the weakest one for me, and I'm not sure it adds anything over & above the other two. None of the tracks feature on either the UK or US versions of Smash Hits either. That said, this is a good album and an enjoyable listen.

It’s Jimi.

Best Song: Spanish Castle Music. By far the grooviest track on the album, and also probably the one on which Hendrix sings best. Worst Song: If 6 Was 9. Feels weird to have a flute appear only for a spastic and chaotic outro. Had the the flute featured more prominently (and calmly) in the rest of the song, it would have felt like it at least earned the ability to go off like that. Overall: It really is staggering how Hendrix's guitar manages to feel like such a prominent voice in his music, not just an instrument amongst all the others. The soulful tone and softer, psychedelic nature of this album is also great, giving it both a relaxing and invigorating quality.

Pretty good, I’m glad I listened to this because my friend had got the album cover poster for me because we thought it looked cool so now it wouldn’t be weird if I put it up. Drums and were crisp.

Pretty good, the album art is cool but I can see why it’s controversial. Enjoyed listening to this today 7.5/10

7/10 - I like the singing parts of this album a lot more than the pure guitar. One rainy wish was my favorite song by far, but if 6 was 9 was my least favorite.

Going in to this album I was skeptical to be honest. Little wing has been butchered with taste and endless guitar solos so many times, it's easy to forget what a magnificent song it really is.

Some stellar songs and a solid album.

Really enjoyed this. Jimi Hendrix is well talented, he could go a long way… oh wait, hang on!

brilliant

Obviously the guitar playing is top tier. Some songs go on for too long. I like the backwards guitar and the sound bouncing between left and right channels. Saved four songs.

Very groovy, much like. Very different to usual taste, but it's the GOAT what's not to like. Vocals very nice Starts off meh with Up From The Skies but gets much better after Album cover is a bit odd

In his top 3 records, by the G.O.A.T. guitar player. Contains some of his classics and best tracks.

I'll bet this was a crazy experience back in '67, and it's a lot of fun to listen to today as well.

Undeniably one of the greatest guitarists of all time

I’m more of a calm, vibey listener so this was hard to get into but after a few listen I can appreciate the music especially the shifting from left to right and how everything works in unison

the blueprint for being a rock star

A Sprawling classic with enough gems on to keep you entertained.

Deserves more conversation than AYE honestly.

Superb sophomore album

Classic Jimi. Straight, no chaser. Gimme. From Spanish Castle to Sand Castle -- just let your mind go with this one. "Unexpected" bangers -- If 6 Was 9, One Rainy Wish, You Got Me Floatin'

Bold as Love is an easy 5 on its own. Listening to more Hendrix that I normally would pass over put me in a mood? Its hard to say, it was very good, but sad. Castles Made of Sand is a good example, great melody, lyrics, guitar, just bummer subject matter. Hendrix the forefather of Emo, I guess.

Like I said in my last Hendrix review… bad vibes all around. But there are some great songs and moments on this album. Okay I love a lot of songs on this album but ugh I just feel like shit after listening to Hendrix. Bold As Love is a 10/10 song though

The lyrics are *extremely* hit and miss, but the sounds are fantastic. Hendrix really shows a lot of range on Axis, from the proto-metal of "Spanish Castle Magic" to the lilt of "Little Wing" to the spacey "If 6 Was 9." And of course, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell anchor the entire affair beautifully (literally, in Mitch's case - he plays the news anchor in the opening track)

Thoughts before listening: I do not believe I have actually listened to this album before although I will probably recognize most of the songs. I have owned a number of Hendrix best of albums over the years, so I am not new to Hendrix, I just never went deep on his actual studio albums. In general I love Hendrix as much as most rock fans so I am excited to listen. Review: This has some really great, classic songs on it. "Spanish Castle Magic", "Little Wing", "If 6 Was 9", "Castles Made of Sand", and "Bold as Love" are perfect songs of the psychedelic rock era. As a whole however the album has some weak spots that fall into basic blues rock territory. Still though, these highlights are enough to make this a 4-star album.

A really nice album. 4/5

the Jimi Hendrix Experience are probably one of the most endlessly charismatic rock groups to come out of the 60's, or probably anywhere. i'd say about 50% of it is Jimi -- generally he's what you think of when you hear the term "rockstar" -- but Mitch and Noel split the remaining half. they're good at both keeping up with him and providing a lot of memorable additions to songs that the guitar just can't muster. most heavy psych/hard rock of the 70's basically copies its homework from how they play, and i think they deserve their due credit. still -- it's the JIMI HENDRIX Experience. you're here for him. sorry "She's So Fine". i could gush over the complexity and energy of the guitar playing, but everyone does that. for good reason, but guitar is guitar. i'm instead gonna make a very risky assumption. i think the reason people come back to Jimi's songs and his records is because of his personality. he's good at writing and playing music, sure, but there's such a draw to his presence; there is a world of tumult and chaos in the guitar and there is a man holding it down and controlling it as true showman would. the Jimi Hendrix Experience is a snake in the hands and a charmer or three to tame it.

little wings, my favorite since i'm 8

Classic Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix, great stuff.

its good but its a little hard to be impressed by compared to the other two hendrix albums

godly guitar here

Haven’t really listened since high school and thought this was going to be corny but it’s actually really really good. Sucks because I feel like Jimi had not yet peaked creatively and I would have went on to make really weird cool shit in the 70s with band of gypsies and whoever else

A trip down memory lane!

Jimi Hendrix is the GOAT

Hard not to love Jimi. Fun to listen to earlier stuff for which he’s maybe not quite as well known. Enjoyed the listen.

Клёвый альбом, интересная музыка

I have feeling very rough when I listened to this so I did not have a huge capacity to be discerning but I like this! Really liked castles in the sand; the album moves really well. Groovy! Surprisingly strong hippie vibes for the first song I was very surprised!

An absolute classic for people that like to get wavy and stare at magic eye posters (positive connotation) The whole album is such a vibe that still feels otherwordly and out there! Jimi is unmatched in musicality among the 'guitar legends' and where his contempories like Clacton and Gilmour feel dated - Hendrix still electrifies me Listening: Back2Back2Back2Back in the office on my own fully enjoying it! Favourite Track: Bold as Love/Little Wing

Hendrix is great and talented in so many ways. I also really love his voice, it is something so soothing, calming and yet strong with his voice. Guitar is amazing. My only complaint is sometimes the amazing guitar doesn't always feel like it connects with the rest of the song, it is just turns into an amazing guitar riff with some random music in the background. But then there are songs like One Rainy Wish or Castles Made of Sand that seem to work really well. Bold as Love was really amazing guitar work

I liked this album. Good mix of hits and things I hadn't heard. Great mixing.

I really like this album. Little Wing followed by If 6 were 9 is perfect morsel of Jimi. Love the guitar, it's an extension of his voice. So, so good.

Have never heard previously and was instantly hooked - little wing a gem

Absolutely solid album. Can't hate on Jimi tunes. Bold as Love is one of the best last songs on album holy hell.

So much back and forth from left to right headphones it is pretty crazy. Another masterclass of shredding by Jimi. This album is filled with hits and some deep cuts which all all great. Would have loved to been able to see him live.

Vintage Hendrix. Great stuff

I really enjoyed this. Psychedelic rock. He was clearly very talented. I forgot how short Little Wing was. I tend to listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan 's version which is much more powerful. It seems like JH was only giving us a preview if what this sound could be.

I'm surprised at how much I'm caught off guard with the excellent guitar work. Like, I know it's Jimi Hendrix, but I keep getting (unexpectedly) blown away. It doesn't really stand out as an elite album to me, but it is very good, verging on great. Favorite Song(s): Spanish Castle Music, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand

Jimi can do no wrong, but it would behoove this list to include one of his Band of Gypsies albums instead.

A trippy dive into the world of Jimi. Many of the songs don’t stand out to me as specifically memorable, with the exception of Little Wing which is one of the best songs ever. When the guitars take off there’s nothing else quite like it. Besides that though, I think the selling point of this album is it’s overall sonic landscape. Feels like being transported to a parallel universe. Can see how many people were massively inspired. It’s amazing this was around at the same time as The Beatles.. so many sounds that inspired hard rock etc seem to have come from Jimi! Favourite tracks: Little Wing, If 6 Was 9

good solid album, enjoyed little wing. He is definitely influential.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as "Are You Experienced?" but there was still plenty to like on here. I had only heard a few of these songs before, and the songs that were new to me were a mixed bag: some mediocre, some really good. This is a good reminder that some classic rock can still hold up a day after that Beach Boys album that was hard to get through. 3.8

Very fine record

Hendrix was so much more than a guitar pioneer.

First time listening to a Jimi Hendrix album. Enjoyed it. Thought it was a really good rock album. Interesting guitar riffs throughout the songs. Standouts: Spanish Castle Magic, Wait Until Tomorrow, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, One Rainy Wish, and Bold As Love.

A lovely mix of pop, rock and psychedelia, this Jimi kid is onto something!

its such a shame we were denied hendrix's inevitable jazz fusion turn. the man made sounds with his instrument that were unfathomable at the time, and also just played like no one else did, or has since. look at the pile of optimistic-eyed guitar-aspirant corpses that Little Wing has left in its wake. always sounds wrong, because no one else can do that shit

hadn't listened straight through before, enjoyed it

Loistava paketti. Ei mitään turhaa ja hyviä biisejä. Aivan timanttiin ei kuitenkaan yltänyt, mut hyvä yritys

First I’ve ever actually listened!

Jimmayyy

Good stuff

When you listen to the song Bold As Love, you can hear Jimi making 80s rock in the 60s. Little Wing, Bold As Love and Castles Made Of Sand are 5 star songs but some of the other tracks on this album bring it down to a 4

Pretty great psychedelic rock. Has a lot of his hits on it but some filler.

Muy bueno y Hendrix era un musicazo. Debería entrarle más.

Jimi delivers again

not sure why he destroyed my ears on the first track but the rest was pretty swanky

Spanish Castle Magic Little Wing If 6 Was 9 Castles Made of Sand

#292. There's not really much I need to say. I thought it would be good, it was good. 4/5: yes

While not as iconic as Are You Experienced, this is a great album. Beginning is a little weird, but once they get going they drop some bangers

While it didn't blow me away like their first album, this is such a solid psych rock record.

Wonderful. RIP Jimi. 86/100

a boiling pot of delicious guitar noodles

Hendrix isn’t exactly my jam but can’t deny the talent. Iconic guitarist. The album is a little dated sounding but has some great songs.

Not quite a 5 for me, but the highs are very high here. "Spanish Castle Magic", "Little Wing", and "Bold as Love" are all awesome. It's such a shame Jimi did not live longer as I think he would have kept making interesting music for a long time. Side Note: Could this album cover be made today?

Solid, but leaving me wanting more.

4.5* - Don't love Jimi's singing or lyrics all the time. While he's undeniably a game-changing guitarist, I think Mitch and Noel deserve more credit. Some of their instrumental only portions of songs just sound great together.

Second Half Is Much Better.

This album is awesome. There’s some Doobie Bros and some CCR influences (or maybe Hendrix was the influencer?). Loads of great songs.

I’d never heard of this album before and while this was good in its own right I can see why electric ladyland and are you experienced are his two classics. It’s less intense on the guitars and none of the tracks stood out as much as some on his other works but it still has the signature psych blues vibe throughout. Lowkey a sophomore slump but for Jimi Hendrix that still means the musics pretty good. Maybe if I had gotten this on one of the days I was high I’d have enjoyed it more. Okay I listened to this again a bit more actively and enjoyed it a lot more. Still not as memorable overall but a couple more tracks stood out to me like little wing and one rainy wish.

Definitely a fantastic follow up to their debut album. Their first album is so far above anything else they put out though. Still very good album on its own.

Enjoy the wah and licks during "up from the skies". Spanish castle definitely has more of a rock undertone to it. Its a cracker tune. Little wing. Absolute belter. 5/5 song. I wish it was double the length but its pretty damn perfect as it is. Castles made of sand <3 Some real good songs on this album. But theres also several average ones too. The musical abilities of the band is unquestioned though.

This record had my favorite Hendrix tunes on it, which are wonderful, but in between them is a lot of nonsense.

great album, jimi really one of the greatest ever that touched a guitar

Jimi Hendrix brings value. His guitar plays in a way noone plays to this very day.

I had never been a hendrix fan. I enjoyed this album though. The music is amazing. I will relisten to other albums. Looking at the tracks EXP is not needed. Up from the skies is an excellent song and I really enjoyed Spanish castle magic. Favourite song: If 6 was 9 and up from the skies. Least favourite: EXP Album artwork: Love it

Jimi lives !!

Goed album, paar vette nummers, helaas ook veel mindere, technisch fantastisch

It's insane that this album was released in 1967. In terms of production, performance, and experimentation, it feels miles ahead of pretty much everything else of its time. I would have guessed that it was at least mid-70s. Stylistically, 'Axis' draws from rock n roll, blues, and experimental jazz, but doesn't really sound like any of those. It has a unique character that feels indifferent to their contemporaries. This is our music, do what you want. An attitude that would keep resurfacing in punk and grunge acts to come. The big highlight for me is the excellent 'Spanish Castle Magic'. As good as the songs are, I do feel like the songs could have flowed together a bit better. In that respect, it's maybe not Hendricks' best album. But there sure are a lot of genius moments.

Pretty good. A few five star moments here and there, but overall a four for me.

I mean, you gotta love Hendrix right? Sometimes these 60s blues knockoff bands don’t do much for me, but when folks like Hendrix and Zeppelin provide their psychedelic spin on things it’s pretty great in my opinion. And honestly the man can not only shred, he truly expresses himself through his guitar, but he’s also a pretty terrific lyricist as well. Definitely worthy of the list.

This was good. I started out at a 3, but I thought it ended very strong.

Excellent album, different for its time, heavy and great finishing track. Still prefer Electric Ladyland

Not my favorite from Hendrix, but still more than the sum of its parts. They’re working together in such a groove to make an album that feels like one complete work instead of a collection of songs.

First time listening to this album and I really liked it.

Classic rock album. Amazing guitar work demonstrated across slow and fast songs. So many good songs here. Unfortunately there were a few I didn’t like, and I think at times all of the sounds of the instruments and the singing and the effects just covered each other and became noise. So close to perfect.

Long time fan first time listener to a whole Hendrix album (how embarrassing for me to admit). Soaring and amazing brilliance interspersed with … flute solos. Oy. Points off for that. Hendrix is still god. Props to that rhythm section too.

butterflies and zebras, and moonbeams and fairy tales.

Excellent. As expected - can’t deny little wing is an all time banger! 4.2

Little Wing 🔥what a masterpiece recording for it's time

It’s Jimi Hendrix. You just have to accept it for what it is sometimes.

woooooooooo

1. EXP N/A 2. Up From The Skies 7/10 3. Spanish Castle Magic 9/10 4. Wait Until Tomorrow 9/10 5. Ain’t No Telling 6/10 6. Little Wing 8/10 7. If 6 Was 9 9/10 8. You Got Me Floatin’ 8/10 9. Castles Made of Sand 10/10 10. She’s So Fine 9/10 11. One Rainy Wish 8/10 12. Little Miss Lover 7/10 13. Bold As Love 8/10 Score: 98/120= 82%

I knew most, if not all, of these songs because my mom was super into Hendrix so he was heavily in my family's music rotation growing up. A True Classic.

Great in parts, not that pleasant to listen to 3.8

A little more laid back than Are You Experienced and still terrific. Bold as Love is my favorite track, with Castles in the Sand and Spanish Castle Magic also good.

Creative interesting sounds, not just power chords.

such pretty sounds makes me want to learn guitar.. + i can’t stop staring at the cover <3 spanish castle magic 1000000000000/10

Cool guitars and aggressive sounds. Did photoshop collages while listening. 8/10

Close to a 5. Very enjoyable music

Una chorrada

What else can you say? It's Hendrix. Standouts are Little Wing, If 6 Was 9, and Bold As Love.

I've had a recent run of Jimi and it doesn't get boring. There was some nice variation here and I enjoyed the quality again.

Very bold very love

I can't say every song is a stone cold classic but there are several on this. Electric Ladyland and Band of Gypsies are better albums but Jimi is the epitome of cool

My least fav of the Hendrix experience studio albums yet still phenomenal. Songs are tight and poppy for Jimi (except EXP).

It’s Hendrix. It’s beautiful.

I liked a lot of the songs on this album, particularly Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand, but I didn’t love anything enough to justify a 5

Not as good as the previous Hendrix, but very good nonetheless. Simpsons: yes

A generous 4 stars. A couple of quality tunes but the rest became background music. Background music that I'll happily put on again though.

This was more exciting than the last Jimi Hendrix album. It was something I'm glad to have listened to, but will probably never listen to it again.

Hendrix is an artist I have struggled to get into despite generally enjoying his music when I hear it. I think he is an incredible guitarist and his music is always solid. He doesn't have the best voice but that's not important with his guitar. I think ultimately, he distorts his guitar a lot and that's not my favorite sound but he doesn't over do it the way other artists have. I could really hear the influence he had on future bands as a lot of the melodies sounded like RHCP songs. Not sure how much I will come back myself, but the music is good and something i wouldn't ask to be changed. Also deserves credit for the influence.

Olishan se tyhmää väittää että nää Henkan levyt olis mitään muuta kun mainioita. Tää on itsellä jäänyt vähimmille kuunteluille vaikka hyllyssä onkin. 4/5

Jimi on parhaimmillaan tässäkin ihan maaginen, mutta jotenkin tää on vähän epätasainen loppua kohti. Moni huikea biisi jää kans vähän kesken, esim. Little Wing. Silti 4/5 helposti

Kitarasankarointia lajin mestarilta. 4/5

I liked this album. I can realize why Hedrix is Hendrix

Hendrix. You know what you're going to get with Hendrix.

Beautifully composed psych rock but I don’t think it reaches its full potential. Makes me very excited to listen to more Hendrix releases.

Quintessential Jimi. His imagination with the guitar far exceeded what was happening in the day. That’s why the great like Clapton and the Beatles love to listen to him. I wasn’t sure how this album was gonna play, but I loved it from the get-go. It has just enough psychedelic in it to keep it interesting. Too bad there’s no more.

I was expecting the quintessential guitar licks that Hendrix is known for. What surprised me was the poetry of his lyrics especially in the track If 6 was 9.

Jimi was a special talent, that’s for sure. So much rhythmic complexity going on in just his rhythm playing, much less his solos. Little Wing is a stone cold classic, and a lot of the album is great, but it didn’t blow my head off like Are You Experienced? did on first listen. How crazy is it to realize his first two iconic albums were both released in the same year?!? Mind blowing…

Another flavor of Hendrix that I wasn't as familiar with.

Different - more psychedelic and experimental compared to Electric Ladyland, which I felt was also more hard rock and intense. Either way has some amazing tunes and deserves a high score. 4.5.

Nicht nur seine besten Songs, aber auch.

Wicked!

Good songs (and guitar, obviously), but no real stand outs, in my opinion.

Little Wing is so so good that it’s overshadows many of the other tracks especially on the second half. I can see how impactful hearing something like this for the first time when it was released could have been. The eclectic mixing for EXP serves a really good intro for the softer mellow sound of Up From The Skies. Spanish Castle Magic really sounds like a precursor to harder rock to come. The second half sounded more similar to itself and I lost track except maybe Bold as Love. 3.5/5

Love how his singing is literally percussive. Especially in Wait until tomorrow. Loving the fusion of R&B, electric and blues influences. Little wing had such a cutesy guitar that I loved. Plus soooo slay the album is so diverse but flows super well from each song

i enjoyed it but i actually kind of got sick of the guitar after listening through the album :((

While arguably the most influential guitarist of all time, Hendrix is rarely talked about as a songwriter and hated his own singing, but I feel that these are where this album shines for me. Fav tracks: Up From the Skies, Wait Until Tomorrow, Bold as Love, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand

Great guitar. Easy listen. 4/5

Jimi Hendrix and Mitch Mitchell. Incredible stuff

Legend for a reason. Castles Made of Sand is one of my favorite songs of all time, not to mention Little Wing.

I am positive I have not heard any of this album before now. Hendrix lives up to his legend status. This creative album covers a lot of bases and showcases his talents. Of course he demonstrates his distinctive guitar playing. While I may never hear much if any of this album again, it was worth the time and truly belongs on the list!

Reminds me of being in that car one time

Hendrix was the best!

CUNTYYYYY 4.5/5

What a cool album. I've never been impressed with the recording quality of Hendrix albums, and this one is no different, but the music inside is just really great. I find the Hendrix sound to be a little grating sometimes, but some aspects of this (eg. the glockenspiel on Little Wing) we just really outstanding in how they created a sound that I wanted to hear more of. Very listenable and fun, even though I'm still not the biggest fan of Jimi's sound. Four stars.

Equally appropriate music for a holiday cookout with friends and family, and for macrodosing psychedelics and tearing apart the fabric of reality

Little Wing

My least favorite of the three Experience LPs, but still essential. Great stuff.

Loved the sound of this. Not a 5 star for me personally, but still a really fun and good album

It took a second listen, but I really dig how effortless this feels. I think this is the key to Hendrix is making the craziest noises with the guitar while making it look like he's barely trying. I feel like Prince had a similar style with his playing. I also appreciate the length of the songs, almost as if they are besides the point--more of a vehicle to try new things.

Hendrix is amazing. I'm surprised that I've never heard of this album (and therefore never listened to it). It starts out strange, with an experimental track, but gets flowing with distinctive Hendrix sounds on the following tracks. Spanish Castle Magic is a highlight, along with Ain't No Telling, She's So Fine and One Rainy Wish. Really strong album, but not the best Hendrix I've heard.

Not my favorite hendrix album, but it's hard to go wrong with Hendrix!

best song: bold as love

Witchcraft. I thoroughly enjoyed

Probably my least favourite Hendrix album but it’s still fire

chill asf

4/5. Hendrix is great. This is probably my second favorite album of his.

Very nice once the album really "gets started."

Powerful and entertaining album.

4 stars

It was alright and it serves it's purpose but no more. Favourites were "wait untill tomorrow" and "you got me floating"

Can't get better than a man who can play the guitar with his tongue. Also the music is generally fantastic - although I am not sure I am into the intro its weird in my ears

Beautiful album, well produced. Riffs galore.

It blows my mind how young Jimmy was. He was 27 when he died. Which means all his music was done in his early mid 20s. He just sounds so much older and experienced. I don't think I've ever listened to a Jimmy Hendrix album. Just his more popular songs. WTF I just learned that Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison also died at the age of 27! and both Jimmy and Janis died in 1970, Jim in 1971, and all their names start with a J? crazy! oooh Little Wing has an awesome intro. 4 stars

A fun listen. A bit more polished than the last hendrix album. Short and sweet songs with a lot of flare.

Enjoyable 4 star

Guitar God. Incredible drumming. Bold as Love” is my new favorite song.

Jimi was too busy revolutionising guitar playing and psychedlic rock in general to do really consistent albums in his short life. I've always liked this one best of the 3 real studio albums of his. After the silly intro there's quite a few plain-old good songs on here, 'Little Wing' and 'Spanish Castle Magic' in particular. Noel Reddings songs seem like filler but are passable. It's a staple alright, and a surprisingly coherent pop album.

4.5 stars. Really difficult to not like Jimi Hendrix. "Spanish Castle Magic" goes so hard.

Great album. Lots of stereo gimmicks with vocals constantly flipping from right to left and back again. Stellar guitar on every track, with some fun distortion/reversal effects.

Kunne lide den her mere end jeg regnede med, ham Hændriks fyren kunne sgu godt finde ud af at spille guitar.

Virkelig fed hele vejen igennem. Sjovt at høre noget andet Hendrix, som ikke er Are You Experienced!

I have not listened to this album yet but I have heard of Jimi Hendrix through this website. His sound still doesn’t immediately grasp my interest but it wasn’t bad. The only song I didn’t like was Exp which was a strange interlude type. My favorites on the album were: Spanish Castle magic and Bold as love. I will listen again!

Back half of the album is phenomenal. It seems like the 2:30 songs were much better. 4 stars.

#183 : wow! Its been over a month since I was given something I really liked off this list. This one as good as it was, starts a bit weird but flows on from there and is just plain magic. jazzy drumming, funky balladry and liquid guitar solos, Who doesn't love a bit of Hendrix? Favourite Track : Little Wing

I mean it’s jimi on the guitar… what can I say. Great album, little wing is my favorite and has always been. Nothing stands out crazy to me tho

Not as toe-tapping and full of hits as his debut but in some respects more interesting. Lots of cool studio effects were developed on this album, and the songs are more complete than his other solo-heavy stuff. You could tell he was trying to write songs and then, as a guitarist, play within the song. “Wait til tomorrow,” “Little Wing,” and “bold as love” are favs.

lol so this is how I learn bold as love is not a John Mayer original

Enjoyable listen.

Et av de store i tenårene, men i senere tid oppleves ikke albumet like stort.

4.5 this is almost as good as it gets. So smooth.

Not my favorite Hendrix album but Castles Made of Sand is one of my favorite Hendrix songs. It's illegal to rate any Hendrix album below 4 stars

4/5 no where near the classic level of his other two albums, but still Jimi. 4/5

This is of course a good album, but I think it is a shame that many songs are simply turned away or faded out, sometimes in the middle of a solo. And compared to his other albums, there there are four songs from the top level of those records. These are Little Wing, Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made Of Sand & Bold As Love. Wait Until Tomorrow is not bad either. But the rest is still below the usual level of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

this was nice, kinda random

One of the first albums I listened...

real good

Axis: Bold as Love isn't as good as Electric Ladyland, which earned a 5/5 from me, but it's still good. The start of the album is very offputting but you forget about it by track three, Spanish Castle Magic, which sounds quite like Crosstown Traffic to start with but quickly establishes both itself and the tone of the record. Little Wing is a favourite song of mine over generations but weirdly I think I prefer several covers to Hendrix's version, One Rainy Wish has such an authentic sound you can get lost in, and while the whole album is groovy, esoteric, psychedelically heavy, quirky and everything else you know and expect from the Jimi Hendrix Experience, it's short of top-end, eternally memorable songs. A low 4.

A full on rock out experience

I mostly enjoyed the more soul and R&B material as well as the increased input from Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. Some stuff doesn't always sound as realized or work very well for me, but this was good to hear. Impressive, this came out in 67.

I enjoyed this one. I'll always listen to Jimi play guitar, but I didn't really notice anything that was super memorable vs his really well known stuff.

I know the album; it was cool to listen to in one sitting. Someone recently told me how psychedelic it was but cover notwithstanding, it felt way bluesier than I recall. Not a bad thing!

Jimi is so good and revered for very good reason. More variance of musical styles that I expected. Notable tracks include bold as love, one rainy wish, little wing, wait until tomorrow, up from the skies. Little wing is one of the best songs of all time.

I got this about 150 albums ago and put it off because I knew how much I’d hate it. Today was the day that I finally made myself listen to it, and holy shit is it great.

Jimi is a legend and I can see why. Some songs get a little long and rambly for me, but that’s just the genre. Not everything is made for people with ADHD haha.

First time listening to hendrix. This guy is pretty good

Magic.

You get it all on Bold as Love - sweet riffs, catchy melodies, fun songwriting, and a charismatic Hendrix right at the center of it all. What I've always loved about Hendrix, and what is on display on this album, is how he sits at the intersections of so many genres. You'd largely call this psychedelic rock, but the blues, R&B, jazz, and pop influences are apparent. Songs like Bold as Love, Little Wing, and Wait Until Tomorrow are standouts for me.

Just fantastic to focus on the whole album. It’s probably the first time I have done so with Hendrix. This album is incredibly cohesive.

Good Rock Album.

Nice little jam

Gotta love a bit of Jimi, not my favourite album though, some songs feel a bit rough and ready, unfinished. Fave tracks: Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, One Rainy Wish 3.6/5

If i could, i would give it 4.5

Great album, I enjoyed it even more than the previous jimi album. Full of guitar mastery and psychedelic melodies

A classic of psychedelia. But Hendrix's guitar can grate; need to be in a certain state of mind.

Hau ere ezaguna. Hendrixen diskografiako 4 CD-en kutxan. Kuriosoa sarrerako audio esperimentua "Wait until tomorrow" maite nuen If 6 was 9 Castles made of sand

Yes a magical gutiar tour of an era but a bit dated now. As I always say of Hendrix, - brilliant but demanding listening. Reminds he of those 80s Vietnam film sountracks. How do you critique this? Its a whole parallel universe of music versus what was around in the mainstream. I prefer studio to the live I think. Its more settled

Blends in some of the soul and R&B roots to the overall psychedelic rock feel to make a cool album. Not every track is a banger for me, but this was overall pretty experimental and Jimi is clearly trying to keep from being kept in a stylistic box. Highlights - Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, If 6 Was 9, Castles Made of Sand, Bold as Love.

This album has a lot of attitude and it feels like quintessential Jimi

Great record filled with some timeless Jimi songs. But it’s not my favorite and does have some filler here and there.

Only know two songs off of this record. Not anything I didn’t expect, but the dude is a legend. I think the magic of Hendrix has to be his live show, not his studio albums. This record was more diverse than I expected it to be. Worth noting his band is extremely talented as well.

Excellent percussion work.

Not as many hits but it sounds like Jimi Hendrix alright. Not much to say about it. 7/10

Another great album from Jimi. This one doesn’t have any huge hits and most likely isn’t an album that non-jimi fans would know. But thematically I feel this album does a great job of having a consistent sound while mixing things up throughout. 8/10

Realmente um clássico!

Reminds me of my friend rob

This came out the same year as Happy Together by the Turtles which is insane. The headphone sound effects are cool. I generally like Are You Experienced better as an album but this one is more... weird (in a good way).

He had one of the smoothest voices in music and Castles Made of Sand is one of the best songs on guitar that exists

Jimi Hendrix's place in the Rock Pantheon is fully secured in my mind. Even though I don't listen to his music these days, I listened to him constantly as a teen and remain in awe of what he can do with a guitar. Such rare art! Yes, this album, like so many late '60s rock albums, shows the influence of LSD, but that's to be expected. His artistry still shines through that fog.

Every track on this album is great.

I really enjoyed this album (for the most part!) Little wing is one my all time faves! Some of the songs feel like they are a bit much, truth time - I'm not a huge fan of guitar solos and also the drummer could calm down a bit on the crash - but on the whole I loved the music! I would give it a 5, but it's not really an album I think I'd go back and listen to in full, probably more the top hits fan, so its a solid 4 from me. Fave track: Little wing

Little Wing is by far the best thing here, but Spanish Castle Magic is also quite nice. The album is not "Electric Ladyland" but it is good.

Loved little wing and if 6 were 9

Excellent program

The good songs are REALLY GOOD but their are some that are kinda noisy

Great sounds.

Classic jimi

Love it, love the intro even more

The title track is a work of art. Little Wing is a beautiful classic. Castles Made of Sand another. A lot of great tunes here, but some are just OK. (So nice of Jimi to throw Noel Redding a bone by allowing one of his songs on the album.) I don’t think it really captures his guitar magic though. And that’s what I’m taking away from this listen: historically he’s remembered for being the greatest guitarist ever, but he’s very underrated as a songwriter.

Best guitar of the 20th century

Very forward thinking, especially for the time. I bet this album blew some minds back in the day; I bet it blows some minds today, too.

Can’t go wrong with any of the LPs released in his lifetime. The posthumous releases are hit or miss (often on the same album).

My first Jimi Hendrix album I have listened to. Really good stuff for 1967. Not good enough for a 5, but definitely earns a 4

A few misses, but mostly a solid album.

Obviously, I'm familiar with Jimi Hendrix as an artist, but I have never listened to this album. The only song I know here is "Castles Made of Sand". Happy Monday! The one song sung by Noel Redding threw me: I thought the album ended and the algorithm sent me a hard af Beatles song for a second. Overall a cool melding of r&b, blues, psychedelic, and 60's pop rock with naturally some epic guitar work. I was delighted and surprised by the very experimental intro, "Exp"
