Reviews (page 6 of 6)
I guess it was fiiiiine but nothing more, just american man guitar music.
Saved from obscurity by this list it seems. No, Do Not adjust your set. The whining... this is not Danny Elfmans "Mars Attacks!" defence sequence, (where country music like "Indian Love Call", performed by Slim Whitman makes the Martians heads expode.) A hard album to stream. Its not on YT Music or Spotify, except as bootleg playlist. Coincept album stuff. mixing Pink Floyd late 80's atmospherics, with early Springsteen fireside intimacy, and some Counting Crows pleading and crooning. Feels like its posing too much while hoping its delighting... there's potential here, but its not greatness due to the wierd production and pacing. Maybe one for listing alone in the garage while rebulding a classic car with your favourite doobie? Its just overdone for me....
I had never heard this band before. Maybe I should have given it more than one listen here. It’s like there’s a stack of potential here but it’s unrealised. Maybe they were a really good band but I’m not quite hearing it. I really liked Lonely & Western Sky but I thought a lot of it was ragged. Sometimes amateurish. Sometimes boring.
This is like a pale carbon copy of the alternative music of the 80s; a bit alt-country, a bit Smiths, a bit RM, but not a patch on any of it. I found this bland and unmemorable. A SputnikMusic review states: "AMC slowly faded into relative obscurity and are now looked back at as a cult act, well-regarded also-rans. Clearly there was a limit to how much navel-gazing the public at large could take but it should still be remembered that AMC played their part in winning the war against ‘80s douche-bag decadence." Let's give a minute's silence for this fallen soldier in the battle against mainstream rock. They didn't achieve anything heroic, but they were there.
Mostly dull
All new to me -- band, album, their music -- so as always I'm grateful for this project and the way it's constantly serving up music I'd almost certainly never encounter otherwise. This album is fine, nothing in it that I dislike, but through no fault of its own it's hampered a bit by the abundance of music that sounds a lot like it. That being said, the compositions and performances are quite good, and I like the style and sound of this album.
A boring album that I had to sit through on YouTube. Very slow and everything sounded the same. Nothing else to really say.
Boring, nothing special or memorable.
One of the most forgettable albums I've listened to on this entire list. But I didn't actively hate it, so a 2 it is
Not worth the effort to listen on YouTube. Blah.
This singer must be really nice. He sounds really nice. I expect he doesn't forget birthdays and he's the kind of guy who pops around when you've been ill or if you're low. I don't know why else he would be on this list as the album doesn't stand out at all.
Fairly middle of the road white guy dad rock. So yeah, it was okay, I suppose, maybe.
Not bad, but far from necessary. This was pretty sleepy all the way through and never particularly exciting. I feel that this is a high 2 for me.
Some folky/country music to start us off which I can totally get behind. Is the last 2 minutes of Laughingstock just silence? Lonely wasn't great songwriting. I feel like I am constantly changing the volume on the songs so I can hear. I am listening on YouTube though so maybe that has something to do with it. Blue and grey shirt was pleasant, but very much a white bread song. Bad Liquor is sporadic and loud all of the sudden? Doesn't really fit in. Overall not terrible music, but it really just seemed so lackluster and felt like they just wanted to appeal to 80% of white Americans. I don't think I would enjoy having a beer with these guys. I want to give this a 1 star so badly, but it is objectively better than the 1-stars I have given out. Soft 1.5
This is an interesting album I don't quite know what to think of it. It's like indie/country/folk mix. Not really a big fan of the singer. Bad Liquor does not fit on this album at all I thought it was put in the Youtube playlist on accident. This album didn't do anything for me I was happy when it ended.
Not really into slowcore
Not on Spotify, but found it on YouTube. Thought it was going to be a folk album then it changed into more of a post rock shoegazy dreary rock album. Shite tbh
Arnar Eggert sagði í Mogganum að þetta væri "[the bands'] "definitive statement". Og svo var vitnað í hann í þessari bók sem við fylgjum. Gott og vel, en ég þarf ekki að hlusta aftur. Lítið spennandi rödd, og ekkert lag sem grípur við fyrstu hlustun.

A bland review for a bland album
I'm on a streak of average albums on this list. This is another one, rather anonymous country rock band, that brings essentially nothing to the table. Its hard to point in any direction with praise, it's mostly just generic music probably created by Chat GPT, after feeding in the name of the band. Waste of time.
Don’t know who they’re pulling one over by not having their music available. Listening to this was not that great. It’s like having that weird uncle be in a band from the 80s. The folky songs were rather sad and depressing. It wasn’t upbeat enough to be classic rock. It was in limbo of both and wasn’t that great. 4.8/10
It was difficult enough to find a full album to listen to for this album, and believe me, I tried. Found a physical copy after a long search, and let me tell you. It was not worth it. Don't waste your time.
Moody and melancholic at times. It wasn't 'bad' but I didn't love it either. 2.5
So very dull and terrible lyrics... Only gets an extra star as it's nice enough as background music
Completely unnoteworthy
Album available on YouTube
Mostly boring
Eh.
Variety in albums can be good, but the variety in this album doesn't sit right with me. The genres they try to tackle, they aren't very exceptional in.
???
I don’t know why I hate this album. I think too many people are going for a like very acoustic every instrument is kinda plinky and country and indistinct. No energy. And I hate his voice. Reminds me of Creed or one of the other late 90s sincere post grunge bands which are all awful. The backing sounds like REM but it doesn’t feel as smart or edgy or energetic.
A rare one star. REM meets The Smiths but weaker in every dimension, the worst of both worlds. It's not offensively bad or anything. Technically it's competent, and on a performance level it's good. What's annoying about it is that I found myself checking out every 30 seconds and having to manually dial myself back into even remembering I was listening to anything at all. Seems like the kind of band that you'd only really get into if they were local and playing live - I can see it sort of rocking in a pub-corner context. Was excited as I usually like the lesser-known albums of the list but as it stands from what I've seen so far in ~300 or so, not being on major streaming services is usually a decent indicator that nobody has seen fit to bother preserving it for a reason. Fav tracks: Last Harbour

There is this bar in town. The stage is super small and I swear thousands of kids have played on it. The place has an old smell that never goes away and even though you can't smoke inside it still kinda smells like it. Every band that has played there is better than this group. Some songs gave me hope then kicked that hope in the balls. It's just lame and boring and I'm at a loss why I had to listen to it.
California - American Music Club Bruh telling me that the album this ass wasn't on spotify would have saved me time. hard to find hard to listen to
Whatever, DNF
Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if R.E.M. made music for a Nickelodeon teen drama? Lyrics and singing made me wrinkle several body parts. I focused on the electric guitar, and things got better—great atmospheric playing with weird chords.
This must be what 90’s R.E.M sounds like to people who don’t like R.E.M.
No point in recording this
Might not be a fair review, but i really did not enjoy my time with this album. There was nothing stimulating at all to me.
Sounds like bad Bruce Springsteen.
Not underrated
~ INCOMPLETE ~ streaming not avail at time, will circle back later
No link to music - couldn't review
Im giving it a star to say how much I don’t like it
From the moment I heard the pedal steel I knew I was in for a rough ride. Absolutely terrible. It's Indie meets Americana, and somehow is performed and produced in the most lifeless way imaginable.
Wanted to to listen..but not on Deezer :/
This started out sounding like Bruce Springsteen with all the soul and interesting bits removed but it quickly evolved into heart on your sleeve horseshit. This what a pretentious singer/songwriter imagines a 14 year old girl imagines her overly sensitive crush writes in his diary? 🤮 The only thing counting in its favor was that it was mercifully short.
Yuck
Not on Spotify
Couldn’t find it on Spotify.. but listened to their other album
I could only listen to this on YouTube on my phone and it would stop anytime I used a different app. My friends - it is not good enough to deal with that bullshit. These dudes sound like a sober Hold Steady and it’s a snooze fest.
Couldn’t find on Spotify
I want to punch this band in the face.
How tf is this on the list. Had the thought “it must be over now” and it was 20 minutes in. RYM: N Saved a song: N
"my mate who works in IT plays in a really cool band at the social club every Wednesday"
This is music. Not sure why it is on the list. Maybe I am not meant for this music club.
gibt's nicht
Truly terrible at being truly mediocre
American slop. Y encima ni siquiera fácil de encontrar.
DNF - I strongly believe this isn’t one of the 1001 albums I needed to listen to before I die next June thanks anyway
What if The Smiths were really fucking boring and generic and I could only listen to them on YouTube for some reason
?/10 I couldn’t grade it because it wasn’t available on Spotify 🥀
springsteen garbage
i didnt feel like i should vote on this...

Ok

Not on apple music so I had a look on you tube and wish I hadn't bothered.
Yeah. Not for me at all. Couldn't make it through this one. 1 star
i cant hear it on spotify idk whyy
I couldn't listen to this album 💔😞
Lame. Who is putting these shitty albums on this list? This band has 1750 monthly listeners on Spotify and this album isn’t even available. Seriously, go fuck yourself. This makes me irrationally angry. The Black Album is laughing at you.
This isn’t it. Depressing, unpleasant musically - I’m not sure why this album is on such an esteemed list.
Not going out of my way to track this down
This felt like a lot of nothing, didn't have much substance. It wasn't trout mask jarring but still wasn't enjoyable
are you kidding me? this was so fucking boring!
Wow this is just straight up not good, dawg. Was waiting for the album to really start, then saw I was halfway through already. And then it got bad.
both college rockish and indie rockish in a detestable way. did not enjoy my time here.
Cantfind
This is definitely divorced dad trying to reclaim his glory.
Didn’t listen
Nao tem no spotify, sorry mate
Boring.
20th album with group. Very basic and forgettable. I’ve probably heard 40 other albums on this list just like it. Good Songs - Firefly and Bad Liquor. Bad Songs - Somewhere, Laughingstock, Lonely, Pale and Skinny Girl, Blue and Grey Shirt, Now You're Defeated, Jenny, Western Sky, Highway 5, and Last Harbor.
1.4/5 Honestly, I wouldn't put this in the top 10,000 albums of all time, let alone the top 1,000. I'm not sure what people hear in this. If someone put this on and didn't mention it was on this list I would have said it was a college band's first and only album from the early 90's and it had less than 1,000 listens on Spotify. The only half decent song is the first track "Firefly". I could barely make it through the rest of the songs.

Not available on Spotify so I don't know
I couldn’t find the album anywhere:(
Top track: Firefly
this is terrible.
Favorite tracks: Pale Skinny Girl (but I would just listen to Slint instead)
The music was good but I hate his voice. Like a mix of Springsteen and Jeff Richmond in the worst way

What in the blue Laurel Canyon hell is this
The album is not available on streaming :-(
this feels like the equivalent of a bad hallmark movie
not available on spotify. listened to everclear instead. 1 or 2
The book mentioned these guys compared THEMSELVES to R.E.M. and were surprised when they hit it big instead. Tt's pretty obvious why. None of these songs are big radio hits. They're personal stories for members of the band. There's no broader appeal unless you're into moody, emotional melancholia.
very slow and not my cuppa
This was hard to find - not on any streaming services as far as I can tell, at least not any that I have access to. I think I listened to it - there was a version of it on YouTube, although there was one song somewhere in the middle that didn’t seem to fit all that well. In any case, didn’t like it. Not even a bit. Nothing of interest for me here at all. Not a fan. Period.
Way overrated hipster b.s... It was not worth the trouble I went to find somewhere to listen to this album.
Can’t find on Spotify but what I did listen to was meh. Pretty bland
Not much here that I enjoyed, appreciate the effort
Nothing to say in my nothing review about this nothing album by a nothing band with a nothing legacy.
Kuullostaa siltä miltä maistuu ja näyttää.. näin on...
Unable to review - not available on Tidal.
Unfortunately, this sounds a bit like the music that was performed by the fictional character Rufus and his band Lincoln Hawk from the hit show Gossip Girl. 90’s pastiche that falls under the Smiths umbrellas of influence, with an R.E.M sound pallet. “Lonely” in particular was a lowlight for me. The singing was the opposite of charismatic, and so was the content of its lyrics. Hard for me to say this, but at least my other infamous 1 star band PiL takes some sort of convicted angle with their sound and style. Having to go to YouTube for this one when I was at the gym early in the morning was the dagger
This did nothing for me
Maybe this is a lesson in why not to read the reviews before you listen. I saw somebody describe this as like going to hear your coworker's band on a Wednesday night and thinking they aren't as bad as you feared. For me, it was like that, except occasionally dipping down into just as bad as I feared.
.
Is this a parody album?
This is the American equivalent of the forgettable British rock that pollutes this list
Not available on streaming
Bit of a chore to find this album. Finally got it on You Tube. I did not like this. I tried to give this a chance but to no avail. It was a struggle to finish. There had to be a better album to put on this list. No thanks. 1/5
This is a joke album right?
gibt es nicht auf Spotify oder apple Musik, 1 Stern, auf YouTube gefunden
Odd album. Is it country? Indie pop? Easy listening? Whatever the album is, it is not my cup of tea.
No way anyone hears this and thinks “wow, this guy can sing”. Worse than karaoke night at the local tavern.
Not quite
Don’t feel like going to YouTube to listen to this and the global reviews aren’t doing it any favors. This album gets a 1

somehow annoyingly boring
This might be the biggest load of nothing yet. Of course this album isn’t on Spotify, it’s true home is a 99p bucket in Home Bargains, next to The Best of Tina Turner and Drive Time Vol 4. It’s probably not a one star album but there is no fucking way it should be on this list.
Ok record. The tracks kind of melt together, hard to say anything special about the songs. Not my vibr
Sounds like The Cure music, with a young Bruce Springsteen. Pass
Terrible to me. Hard to listen. I don't even know did I listen all songs...
Even worse that lame pop or weak synth music is weak country or "americana / alt-country". I can't stand this type of music, at all. The idea of suffering through the whole album is not an option.
Both hard to listen to (in that it’s not on Spotify) and hard to listen to (in that it’s awful). Just wholly unnecessary, sincerely maybe the worst thing I’ve listened to for this project thus far. At least the experimental noise music is trying to do something new. This is nothing. Weightless, devoid of worth. A stupidly named band with no identity and nothing to offer. Absolutely should not be on this list.
unavailable on spotify or prime, so unable to rate
pleh bleh mmmhmm yeh bleh yuck
not in spotify
I can't decide if purposely grating noise bands or uninspired guitar pop is worse in this list. Just because you can play a guitar and we're on indie radio doesn't mean it's good. The fact that they are ripping off other better bands doesn't help. Highway 5 is the only song I'd ever want to hear again, and that's only if nothing else was available.
Terribly boring!
Can’t access
Looked up the tracks on YouTube. Just sounds like generic indie from the 90s but from 88 so must be influential. Not one to dig out if you can’t be arsed.
I was left guessing what the importance of this band and album were. This was pretty bad. The lyrics were crap, the production was crap, and the singing was crap.
Doesn’t seem to be available in Canada.
Langweilig.
Two songs in I felt I knew where this was going. Four songs in I think I was right. Seems so featureless that I am trying to work out who listens to this and where it gets played? Maybe US college radio. Nul points from this UK judge, anyway.
This album is not great to begin with, and the hurdles of it not being readily available on the streamers doesn't help it's cause. Found this lacking and generally pretty boring. Not sure why it's on this list, though I don't understand why a lot things are on this list.
Not in Apple Music
No snap. No joy.
Yet another that is not on Apple Music in Canada. Then again, I did listen to couple of others from them I condone Apple in saving us from this much tedium and mediocrity in songwriting.
I almost hate to slate this as it's so obscure it's beyond belief. Maybe it's quite ahead of it's time but it really it's that special and certainly shouldn't be in the 1001.
Not on Spotify.
Can’t listen on Spotify
This album was fine
I'm sure the lead singer got shoved in countless high school lockers. Picturing that was the only enjoyable part of my listen.

Nah, we can do without this one. One unexceptional guitar strum out of five
could not find album to listen, so - too bad!
Actually bad. Generic and uninspired almost country. Nothing on this I haven't heard someone else do better.
i couldn't listen to this on Spotify
Singer sounded so apathetic I've hardly ever heard something as boring. Boring songs, boring instrumentation, boring style.
It’s not on Spotify so cant listen
Couldn’t get this album on Spot or Apple, so I listened to their top album as rated by AllMusic.com, 1991’s Everclear. Ugh. If California is anything like this one, pass. Don’t know why I must hear this album before I die, but I’m perfectly willing to give it a listen after I’m dead.
No disponible en Spotify
I'm struggling to find anything interesting or significant about this album.
I was excited because I'd never heard of this before, and the thrill of the new was in me. What a shame then, that this sounds like Morrissey in a cowboy hat without the jokes.
Nah . . .

Can’t find it easily. Gets 1 star.
cann't listen to
Can’t imagine being a music producer and listening to a million songs like these to find a good one.
The label or band must have had some falling out with the Powers That Stream, because this album is nowhere to be found on 21st music listening services. That said, its not good anyway. 1/5
Difficult to find to listen to. Didn't like this.

wow, to think I delayed the list so I could listen to this on YT. this is utterly and completely meh... 1 star down for not being on streaming services being it such a meh album.
Koukkuskeptisiä dynamiikka-addikteja.
Discount Don Henly, wanna be morrisey. Pass.
Upsettingly boring. This sounds like the type of album I would have picked up on CD at the thrift store 10-15 years ago, and been upset over the 50 cents wasted.
Painful with the exception of one song. I'm not sure if that song was great because it didn't sound like the rest of their dumpster fire music or because for one fleeting moment, I thought I had reached the end and was onto another band. Either way... only one song worth listening to.
Can’t find it I ain’t got time for this
Boring AF.
This stinks and is boring.
Maybe it’s great but it’s not on Spotify so I’ll never know
whiny indie mixed with country, horrible
Poor
What a crock. Indie rock in the vein of Toad the Wet Sprocket, except slow, tuneless, and terrible.
Whining. Uninspired. Thin vocals. The sound of low T. At one point I thought, “well this sounds a little catchier”, but it was only YouTube had cut to a grocery store ad.
Huge merp on this one.
Wtf was this
Not on spotify
Already knocking since I need to look this up on Youtube. This is pretty boring. Up until some wild harmonica in Bad Liquor. Honestly every single song sounds the same. It's not a bad sound just boring a lame. Should've known coming from a band named American Music Club. With all the words in the world they chose that?????? Lame. 1.5 and I'm going to round down on this one.
I was not too fond of it from the first note to the end of the last song.
