Reviews (page 9 of 10)
I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. This is kind of a hard indie rock with female vocals. I don't really care for it much to be honest. I don't care much for the vocals, and the instrumentation is just ok, but not great for me. Based on number of listens on Spotify, it seems that Maps is the most popular track. I could see it from the perspective that it doesn't have the harsh vocals that many other tracks have, but still doesn't do much for me. I wouldn't seek this album out again.
I really dislike most of the songs on this one. Which is a shame because I want to sort women-fronted bands. But much of the instrumentation sounds like they are banging metal trash can lids together. And the lead vocals often remind me unpleasantly of cats yowling. That said there are a couple of songs I enjoyed- Maps, Modern Romance, Poor Song. Unfortunately I don’t think those are enough to elevate the whole up to 3 stars.
Used to love them but Karen O's voice is just really annoying to me now
When I read the reviews pre-listening i thought it was going to be No No No. But post listen I concluded it was more a Maybe Maybe Maybe. So all in all to quote another song - Let your Yeahs be No and your No’s be Maybe. 2/5 16/10/25
Okay, I like the energy and of course the radio song was familiar. Cool sound.
Yeah yeah yeah
Standouts Y Control
Ehh. Not for me.
Quelques chansons pas mal mais je trouve les effets de complainte assez irritants à la longue
Some music-type stuff happened, but I don’t remember a thing about it.
Not for me
It’s ok, mid
an unfortunately grating voice even if maps is a top song
I forgot about it by the next morning. 2.
A 36 minute album that felt twice as long. I knew and really liked Maps but there was not much else I liked. I think in another life I could have really loved this, its certainly not bad music, its just not my thing.
i feel so lame but i find her voice annoying as fuck 😭 sorry world. they seem cool
Just listened to this album and then it went straight into a radio station from Spotify and played the good times are killing me by modest mouse and I was like oh dang this is the best song I’ve heard on the album… was not the yeah yeah yeahs, it was ok
Did not feel this one. It was tolerable.
It was ok, a nice vibe but it didn't stand out to me on this listen. I might give them another chance in the future
1 ok song from 11. Embarrassing.
This album is just OK. The musicianship is respectable and the lead singer’s voice is interesting. However, it is terribly lacking in the lyrical department: too many shallow, repetitive lyrics. I feel like the singer is trying so hard to sell the songs, but they have no depth or soul. I’ve heard this style done way better with way more substance. Feels like a third grader could’ve written this album, which is a shame because I really enjoyed it sonically.
Some instant classics like Maps but overall inconsistent.
Didn’t care for the 1st of the album. Got better in the 2nd half….not something I’d put on at any point!
Horrible. 2/5
2.17
I can imagine Karen O being an entertaining performer but this isn't very pleasant to listen to. Some of the guitar bits have a decent energy.
M/v
Most of Fever To Tell sounds like basic garage rock to my ears. It's a pleasant listen but Instrumentally there is not much to favourably distinguish them from The White Stripes, though Karen O does have a distinctive voice. Maps and Y Control squeeze themselves in at the end of the tracklist - cold, icy glasses of water in a desert. They are great songs, full of personality and flavour.
bezveze. posljednje četiri pjesme su čak okej, ali ovo prije njih je slabo
More punkish than the other album we had, and a little less to my liking because I'm not as much of a fan of the genre. Aside from that, it was good.
I don't like the vocal style. i also don't like the chaos or the grittiness of the background. it does feel very creative, but not a huge fan.
I can appreciate some indie music. But this is just noise. I wish she would sing, rather than squawk.
I really wished i liked this more. I love the vocalist and she's putting in her all, but the instrumentation around her is just super whatever to me. When it isn't, it's super cool, like Maps and Rich, but otherwise it doesn't really work for me. 5/10
Good band, but did they need to be on this list twice? Tracks I enjoyed: Rich, Black Tongue. Would I revisit this: no
Ei itselle mitään tällä albumilla. Soundi myös voihkeineen ei ole kyllä ominta juttua.
Decent album, I liked It's Blitz! from them more. Not surprised this is a debut. Maps is catchy. I feel like if they didn't get better after this then this wouldn't be on the list but it's alright.
There were some decent moments but this is not my thing and overall, I did not enjoy it and wouldn't listen to this again.
Enjoyed the earlier stuff better
Pre-listening thoughts: WAIT! They don’t love you like I love you… Post/during listening thoughts: ok so this is kind of mid 😭. Maps is fire (and sounds NOTHING like the rest of the album!) but I don’t find myself caring about the rest of this. Her voice is really bratty in an annoying way and the arrangements feel bare in a way I can’t explain. It’s not the worst I’ve ever heard but I probably wouldn’t revisit this. Whoever said this sounds like Scott Pilgrim outtakes was on the money. 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Maps Least fav tracks: Cold Light
Somewhere between Indie, Rock and Punk. The unmotivated yprechgesang parts ruined the whole album for me though I like some other parts.
Fever To Tell gets off to a screachy start, settles in a bit and improves with Black Tongue, Pin, and Cold Light. Maps is the most listenable song on the disc, Y Control makes it a twofer. Fades with Modern Romance and Poor Song. (2.5*s)
This album feels a bit nostalgic, it has 2003 written all over it. It's a bit too noisy and rough at times but it's decent overall. I think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs brought a lot of energy and a new drum-smashy sound to indie rock at the time. But the bad songs are really bad and the lyrics are really simple and repetitive. It's lacks substance (and a bass player) so 2.45 is as high as my fever can go.
Nice album, ahead of it’s time, I just don’t love it.
5/10. I'm not sure how much I felt this one. Should say absolute visionaries who created this list managed to predict tiktok songs of 2024/5 which is incredible. The songs her were sometimes a bit more stressful than fun which you know, if you like that kind of thing is good. To me it just felt a bit messy and for it's worth I don't particularly rate 'Maps'. Wanted to like it more but couldn't.
Not my favorite
Another album that just fine. As far as punk rock goes, it was a bit weak but the lead singer had a great voice. Just felt a bit lacklustre in parts.
Not a fan.
For the most part, I did not like this album. I found many of the vocal choices grating. Maps was actually pretty good, but I didn't care for the rest of the album.
More like no no no’s
Honestly didn't love or enjoy. Maps is clearly the standout on this album, the rest is not for me. I love Karen O's voice though.
At least it was only 32 mins long. Not bad but not great either.
I feel like this is the type of music that is improved by where you first hear it. I'd probably like it more if I was at some '03 indie basement party. Still love Maps though
Shame on me but I always confuse the name of this band with an all girl band from Japan. Whose name escapes at the moment. Another band. Another album I’m ok with…don’t love it & don’t hate it.
This band sucks
mah
Maps is good, everything else is just noise
Listening to the first half of this album I'd never have guessed that this is the same band that made "Maps", which I think is the only song of theirs I was already familiar with. It's definitely the most palatable song of theirs to my mainstream tastes. The rest of this was far too harsh-sounding to be up my street. As with a lot of punk and punk-adjacent styles, I liked the energy but hated the vocals
Not as much going on outside maps
Only good in comparison to the other awful albums on this list.
Well...at least this album is on the shorter end. This probably translates better to a live setting and not a recorded album. Maps is great but the female vocalist just screetching and making noises during every song isn't doing it for me. 3.5/10 (1.75/5)
Incredibly frustrating. Maps is an all time song, and most of these songs in theory are great. But the shrieking, moaning, screaming, and general lack of genuine singing effort (not ability) ruin this album. I love garage rock/punk and I do not love this Best Song: Maps Rating: 3.5/10 2 Star
Pre: Like most, I only know Maps. Post: Like most, I know Maps, and I'll be keeping it that way. Forgettable 00s indie punk with some vocals perfect for inducing apoplexy (Tick and Date With The Night). Maps is genuinely good however, but it's not enough to save the rest of the album. Highlights: Maps (unsurprising huh)
Honestly, this is my first negative review. But this album was difficult for me to listen to - it irritated me so much. The overall sound felt messy, and the lead singer's voice drove me mad sometimes. The repeated screams seemed misplaced. Only one song, Maps, caught my attention, and that is mainly because of recent viral videos. That is why I am giving this album a 2 instead of a 1, lol
Interesting sound but got boring very quickly
Couple of good songs, but nothing that really stands out.
Maps and Y Control carry. 2.5 stars
noja, es gibt schlechteres ... (aber auch besseres)
painfully average phoney punk xx i won’t brush it off as something that completely isnt for me as i can still get into some parts of it, but then those parts are destroyed by the repelling screeching which is in Every. Song. it’s really by no means “good” sorry xx
Aimless album that seems to try to hard. the main redeeming element is that the album is shorter, and the annoying song don't completely overstay there welcome. Not offensive but I definitely won't listen to it again. Pin is definitely a lowlight. As someone else mentioned, 'Maps" actually site that bad. Seems to actually have come cohesion.
Schön punkig aber iwie töned all lieder chli glich und kes wo usesticht
Once again, indie rock just isn’t for me. I gave this one a fair shot, but it mostly felt like noise with a trendy haircut. Karen O’s vocals bounce between cool and chaotic, but the songs just don’t land. There’s an energy here, sure, but it’s the kind that makes me check how many songs are left. I get why it has a fanbase. It’s loud, raw, and edgy in that early 2000s way. Still, I’ll pass.
Like the psychedelic furs, but much scratch here and rougher like punk.
Not my kind of thing. Listened to a good chunk of it. I had heard Maps before but it does have a different sound from the rest of the album, it’s more toned down. It definitely sounds like it’s from 2003 though
kind of generic 2003 indie rock really
No, no, no. Sorry that's lazy, but it fits. In my earlier, less grounded days I may have tried to convince myself I enjoyed shit like this because it was supposedly relevant. But it wasn't, I don't and it's still shit. It tries so hard doesn't it, but is just tedious musically and lyrically, song structure is on the whole flaccid, and yeah as so many have said it's just sounds like Gaming music of the time; everything at the max, over produced and sound effects vomit. Best thing about this was the comment that said critics likened this band to Led Zeppelin, I'm no fan of Zeppelin but that's just so off on so many levels, again trying to attach a relevance that history shows was not earned. Guess the band meant it all to the bottom of their souls. 2 #Stars - for songs Maps and Y control , the vocals, and the album cover that advertises (all be it negatively for me) what’s contained inside. And as a bassist, no bass - fuck off.
it was alright
I liked their 2009 album but hated this one. Might’ve just been a bad day but pretty disappointed. I hated her voice too, I love Siouxsie Sioux and others with a similar vocal style. Rating: 1.8
Not a fan. Experimental album bedded in rock. Gave up on this about a quarter in. Once again I find great sounds and good performances but the overall album doesn’t knock me for 6. Maps is the most popular song off the album. But not much in it for me. Electronic mixed with punk. Radiohead with some balls. You get a feel for the grimey urban vibe intended to be felt. But I'm not a fan. To look at the album from the artists POV I woul say they intended the album to sonically different from their contemporaries which it is. Going back to 2003, you would have The Strokes dominating NYC in Rock with bands like Linkin Park and other nu metal artists dominating. Queens of the Stone age drumming out classic rock with unqiue concepts. White Strips delivering bluesy anthem rock and The Killers launching their new wave Britpop hits. But none of those bands tread into the terroritory of the Yeah's. They made this album with punk at the forefront and then used all the tools at their disposal to beef it up. So totally get why people enjoy this album. Completely different from the landscape at the team
Glad this period of garage rock revivalism didn't last. Blah.
presumably before they released the album, they sat down and heard that it was maps (truly amazing song, one of the best in the genre) and then 10 of the most garbage my-first-punk-song ass tracks of all time and said "yeah, let's drop this one"
Just okay. The try’s to be too many different things and ends up kinda a mess. Interesting video on “Pin” though.
cringe men ganska bra fart
Not great.
not my thing
started out as fun songs with somewhat annoying vocals, became mush towards the end
For quite awhile I was trying to figure out who's singing style comes to my mind about bands vocalist. On the last tracks Chrissie Hynde's name finally popped into my mind. Kudos to that. Otherwise Fever to tell doesn't make create big emotions and same time it has good vibes through whole album. Nicely raw sound and vibes.
Fav: Y Control Least Fav: Date With The Night Had me thinking no no no for most of the album
I just don't get it. I can't help but think that if these critics weren't Manhattanite elitists we'd never be listening to this.
More like, yeah nah yeah nahs.
opnieuw te luisteren/bleh
Too noisy, and annoying voice
i didnt know the wait they dont know me like i know you wait lyrocs were from their song maps omg my mind is blown tbh. the rest of the album is fine just not my personal taste because i don't enjoy metal that much but its not horrible
This album could have been 1000x better than it actually is. It's got some aspects for it, like the vocals, guitar tone, and the energy but it's just ruined by the drumming and awful songwriting. I didn't like the calmer songs on the other album of theirs I rated "It's Blitz!" and it's the same for these ones. I'd argue they're actually worse It had the potential to be a 4/5 star album, it just got nowhere near that
I want to like this group, really. This album is not helping. Very generic rock/punk indie vibe. Was not enjoying at all.
Not a fan of her singing style so I struggled with this one.
I could NOT get on with this one, just found it annoying TBF.
punk, but not punk enough
2/5
While my main issue with this book is that someone thinks it’s vital that I listen to every single brit pop album released before I die, a close second is that came out when it was released seem to be picked solely on the pitchfork buzz they had rather than actually feeling important or vital. Two stars.
I had a few of their songs in rotation in high school, “Maps” is of course a classic for my generation. But to my surprise upon re-listen this just feels like some Scott Pilgrim-ass music that was prevalent in the aughts that does nothing but annoy me in my older age. Karen O is talented at what she does but I don’t think it’s for me— or at least not anymore.
So so
Interesting sound
Not too much to report on this one. I'm an avid listener of their 'follow up to the follow up' of Fever to Tell (It's Blitz) and was definitely having a hard time pinpointing how the Yeah Yeah Yeahs progressed to that sound based off what I heard on Fever to Tell. This was a really patchy listen for me, there were bright moments (Maps, Y Control, Pin). I think that on balance however, these bright moments were clouded by the wall of sound that was oppressive throughout the first half of the record. Overall quite disappointing as I was excited to get stuck into this one. Top 3: 1. Y Control 2. Maps 3. Pin Bottom 1: Rich Overall Score: 4.8/10
wait they dont love you like i love you
Umm not my cup of tea
I genuinely don't know what this is doing on this list. The songs are generally enjoyable but this feels like a mashup of different styles in a way that aims at nothing more than being mainstream. It's not bad, but no one is greatly missing out by not listening to this album.
Meh, meh, meh.
This is Brooklyn hipster affectation elevated to the highest degree and it mostly sucks.
not making a strong case for being meaningfully distinguishable from Metric here music: hated. (⌐■_■)
There were a couple songs that I actually enjoyed a bunch and a couple that made me reach for the skip button.
I didn't really enjoy this one. Perhaps I don't understand it enough to appreciate it, or perhaps it's just not my style.
This album is very edgy. I had no idea the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s were like this. The only song I knew previously was Maps and so you can imagine my surprise when I heard the rest of this album. I didn’t particularly like this record. I thought it was nothing more than a venting session, which music is and can be at times. It felt like some songs were a bit messy, there’s chaos which I guess is the intention, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good, at least in my opinion. 2/5
Very boring, i guess punk rock, album, no obvious hits, even though this group has a banger from a newer album.
All over the map
I don't fw it
Not my jam on the initial listen. This is not the best of list but “1001 albums you need to listen to” I listened… not roughing back to it.
idk who wade is but she love that dude
I want to like this more. It has the energy of Stooges/White Stripes, but I just couldn't hack the vocals. Really really couldn't get into it.
This was kind of painful to listen to.
Only really one standout song, the rest I forgot the moment they were over. Middling 2.
Some enjoyable moments but not enough
Hey that band that people only know because of the remix of one of their songs from a different album! Sure hope this isn’t boring indierock slop!
2000s sports game menu music. Vocals are good, instrumentation is alright, performance is competent but overall a forgettable album I won't be listening to again anytime soon. A true 5/10. Favourite song from this was Pin.
Most songs on here are pretty short, which I'm normally not really a fan of, but in this case I didn't mind it at all. 2/5
Worse version of I Get Wet
Not a fan
Meh Meh Meh. I was excited at the last song I heard, but then I realized it was Beck, spun off the end of the album by the Spotify algorithm.
Okay, very unremarkable - female vocalist 4/10
Did not finish. Really, kind of annoying.
Not really sure why this is on here
Energetic and fun.
Was starting off fine but took a bad left turn. Some songs are really good while others are really bad.
Coming in expecting to like this album, I was left feeling like it was up and down. I think I prefer their more unusual and less conventional songs on this one. The combination of her voice (which is striking) and the screeching guitars begins to grate over the course of this album. Standout Track: Man
That's not my taste in musik.
Nja...
Eh, NYC art band makes it big I guess? It's ok, not really heading into any new ground. Just lo-fi garage band stuff.
Pretty good, prett-ay, prett-ay good. Never listened to the whole album, dug on a few songs that I had never heard before.
Maps is an ok song. The rest... not s'much.
not for me! maybe im just having a bad day. I liked Date With The Night and Maps tho!
This was pretty shit hahahaha
Deze plaat opent echt met de energie die je van de roaring zeroes der indie rock mag verwachten. De Yeah Yeah Yeahs doen dat echter met veel meer noise dan hun tijds-, genre- en stadsgenoten The Strokes, Interpol of TV On The Radio. 6,5/10 Highlights: Rich Date With The Night Maps
OK
2 stars for maps and the cover art being kinda cool
Edgy. Not good. Not bad
This is #day5 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... somehow, I've always passed this band by. So, as you might expect, this is my first time listening to this album. I seem to be getting the sound and where it's coming from: NYC 70's punk, garage rock, bits of 00's post-punk revival in the likes of the Strokes (more) or Interpol (less). Sadly, the band/music/delivery doesn't click with me. Given the year it was released, I'd rather stick with Turn On The Bright Lights (I hope it's on the list, isn't it?), although it's more in a different vein. Sorry, guys, but this is the first contender for my lowest rate so far. Modern Romance was sweet, though. Looking forward to #day6.
Not for me. Not this bands fault Garage-rock revival has been beaten to death twice over. Fan of the music enough, but I am not a fan of the repetitive wailing vocals.
I want a man who makes me want to kill. Stupid lyrics!
I don’t get why this is on here.
Really blank
Naja.
Awful post-punk indie.
Meh
It's okay but not something I would choose to listen to again.
Annoying alt-grunge/rock without anything to show in terms of songwrighting. 1.5/5
Rough go after RUSH how’m I supposed to listen to a lady singing about maps.
Yeah, yea . . . no.
This album feels very raw and edgy, but it almost comes off as more whiny and amateurish than I believe is intended. The album does end on a stronger note, due to the softer and more refined sound from the last few tracks. But not a very enjoyable listen overall. Top tracks: Maps, Y Control, Modern Romance
eh literally nothing memorable, it felt like palatable riotgrrl
I swear I just had a YYY album. Why another one?
there were a few good songs
boring
Maps is a classic and after seeing this band live they definitely have a good energy. The album just doesn't hit with me much. reminds me of a bit of the white stripes in terms of just general lo fi energy. Maps and Y Control are bangers though.
I went into this album thinking I’d love it because I like a few songs from the band but I didn’t end up loving it. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Y control
Some good ones. Not that good though.
It's not good.
probably good at heart but jumps around sonically which doesn;t make for easy vegetable chopping. that is probably not what they were going for tbh, so we'll agree to differ and say no more about it
Channeling punk. Does not quite make it.
I admit it, I only really knew Maps up until this, which I like so was looking forward to hearing more. Unfortunately disappointed. Too theatrical & histrionic for me.
Liked "It's Blitz!" better. The only song I actually enjoyed from this one is "Maps".
There's an alternate world where I love this entire album like my own son and not just the biggest hit off of it (Maps).
Good album but redundant as all YYY songs and albums seem to be. One trick pony.
A little bit manic pixie dream girl in a bad way. At least the album wasn't that long. Maps was the only song I liked, a rare album generator add to my playlist. Y control was okay, but everything else was unpleasant to me. 2/5
My abiding thought was I’ve heard all this before and done better. Bit crap, IMO.
mid
This didn’t do it for me. Second half a bit better than the first.
Too punk rock for me.
I really really want to like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, because they are very cool. But it's too much noise for me, every single song sounds the same except Maps, there are too many moans, and Karen O isn't really singing, she's just sorta yelling. I understand that some people like that, but as a singer myself, I don't. It's really not for me and I'm sad about it.
Not a huge Indie Sleeze fan...this fits right in there. Some highlights, but not enough to offset the mundanity. 2.5/5
Not a big album. Guess I could have died peacefully without knowing this band.
Almost doesn't suck. Guitar is ok but sound quality is really bad. Singer is a fucking spaz and lyrics don't mean a damn bit of sense. BYOP does it better.
Mediocre album. I was excited to dive into this one as I had known several Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs that I enjoyed and knew this to be a well-regarded album. I was disappointed. I found Karen O's vocals to be grating most of the time and some of the constant repetition of lyrics off-putting. The sound is what I expected and it isn't terrible. "Maps" and "Y Control" are very good tracks. **
🎧I expected to connect with this album more than I did, which is probably why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 3. There are a few standout tracks, namely Date With The Night, Maps, and Y Control. I’m kind of indifferent on the rest of it. Would prob enjoy this much more in a live setting. I believe It’s Blitz! is on the list…think that one is more in my lane.
I simply don't get why this is on the list. One dimensional and little song craft. Energetic, yes. Maybe you just had to be there
Modern?! Album! Sadly didn't really enjoy this one - has a cool vibe but for me the songwriting is a bit weak. At least Maps and the last two tunes redeem it somewhat.
The instrumentals were alright, but holy christ that singer is just god awful. The only thing that saved this from being a 1 is Maps which is kind of a jam and in Rock Band. But it was only saved by just a cunt hair. MAAaaaAAAaaaaAAApppSS MAAaaaAAAaaaaAAApppSS
The last few tracks almost moved it up to a 3 but the first half was too annoying.
- nochmal yeah yeah yeahs - hätte nicht gedacht, dass die Band mit Heads Will Roll hier zweimal vertreten ist - it’s Blitz hat mir deutlich besser gefallen
No no no
Not my favorite
I found the vocals very annoying. Edgy post Riot-Grrrl nonsense. The music is pretty bad too until towards the end of the album. 'Maps' & 'Y Control' are fairly decent to be fair and helps it to scrape a very low 2 stars. 2- by my ratings.
pretty awful actually. make more songs like Maps
Noisy. Good noisy, not great noisy.
Nah Nah Nah. Got nothing.
Not my jam but I’ll give it a two only for a couple songs that were tolerable.
Ok but listening to the whole thing nonstop was tiresome. Maybe it was that much of her voice. 2.5 stars
Nicht der Knaller. Überdreht und laut. 2/5
I was only familiar with Maps on this album, and I can safely say it’s the only good thing on it. The other songs were obnoxious and felt like pale imitations of better music. It also feels like they had no direction, having half the album poorly imitate 80’s/90’s indie punk and half sound like generic 2000’s indie rock.
no recollection. 2 or 3.
It’s clear why Maps was the single.
Meh
This album has turned out to be better than I was expecting, not ever hearing of them before.
Could this album be made with any more treble? Hard to listen to.
Not as bad as some, still pretty dire.
altern., Punk, 2003 -> 2
Vocals were reminiscent of Yoko Ono at times There were a few okay songs, but overall not that great.
Not for me, as much as it seemed like it should be. I think maybe a style over substance thing? Idk i’m not a music genius.
Ihan ok, mut ei tehnyt vaikutusta
Hookless punk rock. Surprisingly varied, but undistinguished from other bands of the 80s or 90s punk genre.
I am rating not on how objectively good it is but rather how much I personally liked it, as that is how I am using this platform. I found it whiny and made me feel stuck in my feelings in an endless loop. Was happy when it was over.
Seems pretty disjointed and all over the place until Maps (thank you Rock Band) and Y Control, I dont really care for this album outside of those two, feels like a big miss.
It’s insane to me that this was released less than a month after Elephant by the White Stripes. If you told me Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the producers for Elephant and snuck in after recording sessions to record this album, I’d believe you. Nice to hear Maps again but that might just be my Rock Band nostalgia talking
Some songs were OK; some were painful.
Not interesting. Indie that tries for rock but doesn't do it
Sounds like a generic album, was okay
Songs started bad, then got a *little* better. Never a good sign when the hit doesn't sound like the rest of the album. 2/5
Nej tack. Trist att vara så anti. Är jag för gammal?
Tjejen är cool, men det hjälper inte när helheten ger mig mer stresspåslag än njutning. Blev bättre på slutet dock, Maps och Y Control tyckte jag var rätt bra.
feels very committed to a bit that is hit or miss. the intensity is solid but often dips into making noise rather than music. songs are short and decidedly not sweet, but occasionally the songs do hit the right notes
Meh
Not my fav
Not my kinda music
Okay, not super memorable
Allt eins
For me - just ok.
The rest is mostly the worst aspects of indie meets a really toothless brand of punk rock I suppose you could call it.
Seems like an odd choice for 2003, there are so many better albums from that era. Not sure what makes this one stand out
Not great
Liked the song Maps for a while but never listened to the rest of the record (or anything else by them). But that's the best song on this record and I'm honestly not crazy about the rest of it. Y Control second best.
Nah, not my vibe. Maps is probably the most bearable song of it all I think? They just all sound the same tbh.
Ook weer iets te druk voor mijn smaak. Eigenlijk best wel een herrie. Sommige liedjes zijn wel oke.
Gave an extra star for the song "maps". overall the album was a pretty difficult to listen to.
I feel like this album could have come out anytime from the 80s until today. Unique and timeless.
Early reaction but I feel like this album would be a lot more fun to hear performed live instead of listening to the album. I can see the appeal but it’s not music that I personally enjoy. With out ‘Maps’ I don’t know how much I’d ever come back to this album.
Not really to my taste, but I can see why others would like it.
Niet echt m'n ding. Paar heel goeie rifs wel en veel power. Maar te weinig catchy songs.
Mostly just a hot mess of noise. Maps is a beautiful song though.
Not exciting to me. Lots of overdrive on guitar and vocals doesn’t equal fun for me.
Not really my jam 2
Not really for me
#74. That song from Guitar hero is pretty good. The rest of it not so much. One hit wonder out of five.
Who listens to this stuff? I mean, there were a few good songs, but it never landed for me. 3/10
Other than Pin, Maps, and a couple of slower tracks near the end, I couldn't be bothered with this today. It's a band with a good sound and a charismatic frontwoman but sorry, for my money this is not a great album
This album just clearly isn't for me, even if it might actually be good. I'd never take away the fun that both the band seems like they had making this record, and the immense fun that they must be to see live. The record really captures the insane energy that it might be to see them live, and honestly sonically it's aces the assignment. I just am kind of annoyed the whole time I'm listening, and kind of rolling my eyes, and just don't really vibe with it. 2/5 with prejudice! Sorry guys!
Yeah no.
"Maps" was pretty good.
Generically edgy. I couldn’t tell when one song ended and the next began. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. As another review wrote, Maps is about the only truly good song on here and is a great sound for the band as a whole. It’s not just the lead yelling for the whole track and shows her true talent (not that yelling can’t sometimes make a good song). Wish it would’ve been used more. Honorable mention to Modern Romance.
One note. Not my jam.
Meh. Not a big fan.
It pains me to say this about a female-led rock album, but it was just a bit too screechy for me.
Too indie
4/10 - To much crunch and punk for me at points would only listen to singles in future
Rich - 1/5 Date With the Night -3/5 Man - 1/5 Tick - 1/5 Black Tongue - 1/5 Pin - 2/5, would be great if she wasn't speaking Cold Light - 2/5 No, No, No - 3/5 Maps - 3/5 Y Control - 2/5 Modern Romance - n/a Yeah! - 1/5
Quit halfway through track 2. Excruciating screeching. I defy anyone to finish this album without developing tinnitus.

I'm not a fan. Much of this feels directionless and monotonous. They could seriously benefit from having a bassist especially if they wanted to make music that was more dance oriented. Maybe this is a case of a band still trying to get their bearings but I'm not sure. Ironically the best track is "Modern Romance" which is not present on this UK version.
Album 209 of 1001 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell Rating : 2 / 5 Fever to Tell is the debut studio album by American indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, released on April 29, 2003, For the most part, it is No, No, No. Listenable, but that is about it.
For every song that hit, the next 2 missed.
Not appealing to me. Maps is good.
Meh, a little whiny. Only song I liked was Maps
annoying
Basically just female sex sounds. Pretty boring.
Sound like a support act.
Kind of trash, like the soundtrack of a movie from 2003
First half bad. Last half gud
Orkade inte lyssna
Every sound on the album has that slightly overdriven, treble-heavy sound that is emblematic of a lot of 00s indie, but that I have always found extremely grating. A couple good songs at the end of the album where the singer isn’t screaming while simultaneously swallowing the mic.
Completely forgettable, no real stand out songs, most just droned on and relied way too heavily on distortion and vocal fry. I looooved Garbage and Paramore back in the day, and this band feels like it's trying to be some mix of the two, but just fails at both. Still more listenable than others in the list, so 2 it is.
Need to be hyped to listen to this. A lot of angst and fuzzy noise. Post punk
Not much to like here. Y Control is the track I disliked the least and Maps was ok
Nice vocals Songwriting langweilig Einheitsbrei
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are the next evolution in punk. TBH the overpopulation of the vocals gre tiresome quickly for me.
I dig Karen O's vocals
I’m good if I don’t have to hear another Yeah,Yeah, Yeah album again, was not the worst one I have heard and was not rap so it has that going for it however it was just noise that was annoying most of the time. However Rich sounds like the start to the IT crowd
Maps was the only decent song on this album. It wasn't as bad as some of the albums on this list, but definitely not great. 2/5
Punk music and Ska music are the two genres I'm not sure I'll ever enjoy, sadly this didn't change that.
Tää ei oo oikein koskaa iskeny
Parit hyvät riffit ja kitarasaundit mut muuten jäi vähän keskinkertaiseksi. Punkiksi vähän löysää kamaa, popiksi liian räminää.
Fuck! This unexceptional band again? Complete with an excess of non-lexical vocables bordering on absurd (band name checks out I guess), and a lasciviousness bordering on desperate and incestuous (we could do it to each other, like a sister and a brother...?). Would have turned it off sooner, but the guitars were admittedly kinda nice, especially on Maps. 🗺️🗺️
ahh, yeah x3. very mixed feelings here. very high highs and astoundingly low lows. maps and date with the night were both in Rock Band, and maps is like, THE rock band 1 drum song for normies. it's an amazing song. unfortunately, that's about where my praise ends. I think songs like maps with a straightforward vocal performance are best. the riot grrl shouting in the other tracks makes this feel like an unholy mashup between bikini kill vocals over black keys or kings of leon instrumentals, and that is simply not my vibe. the last song, Yeah! New York, might be the worst song I've heard since yesterday's pikmin trumpet on PJ Harvey's album. not sure if this was a bonus track that was left off the original album release but after hearing it, it should've stayed left off. it's got all the makings of a classic: - screaming and moaning - lyrics that include phrases like "yeah! big apple!" and rhyming "pink eyes" with "pink thighs" - white stripes-ass drum part - terrible title - repetitive one-note instrument parts - lyrics that go nowhere and say nothing in the process
a lot more terrible than I thought it would be
I don’t like Karen O’s voice - or more, the way it’s distorted in the Yeahx3’s songs. I’m in the minority on that, I don’t care. And the songs don’t vary. Loud buzzing until the last few songs sound like the whole band crashed after a sugar rush. I will just never like the Yeahx3s.
OK....ish. 2.5*
Great albums since 2000. A partial list. No order. Not comprehensive. Not complete. Just as it comes to mind. Jay-z the black album Beyoncé - lemonade. Taylor swift 1989 Punch brothers - phosphorescent blues Sam bush, circles around me Mike stern, trip Jeff beck, loud hailer Dixie chicks - shut up and sing Olivia Rodrigo - sour Any of these over this. How is this must listen? Stop reading critics Dimery and use your ears.
Not terrible, probably worse than the other Yeah Ye…wait…why did we have 2 of their albums on this list?!
First listen for me and I wasn’t a fan. Maps was the only song I really enjoyed.
In the beginning, it felt like it was going to be interesting, but then it fell off drastically, except for Maps, the songs feel like way too many things were thrown in, and the production sounds specific, but in a messy, irritable way. Feels like they haven't found their sound yet and are just taking inspiration from everywhere but it's done in the worst way. The lyrics are horrendous at times, "Boy you're such a bitch, but girl you're no good dick anyway". Ugh, I would not want to relisten to this. Plus the album art doesn't help. But the slower songs on the album are quite okay.
Not my taste. Good guitar riffs and drums but the style of singing isn't for me. Would not listen again
just not for me.
not my fav indie rock
I want to like it. But boy do all the songs sound the same. YAWR YAWR YAWR. Add in that I don't really like Maps and yeah.
the best songs were the ones with no effects on the vocals, unfortunately there were only like 2 of those.
One of the most bitey garage rock revival album from the early 00's, that's for sure. That doesn't mean that I enjoyed it though, as Karen O's vocals are usually getting on my nerves and the thin, noisy production gets tiring pretty quickly for me. Not bad, just not really for me.
Alright, you guys get two for the price of one in terms of reviews for this album because this might as well be two albums with tracks 1-8 being so radically different from tracks 9-12. Tracks 1-8: I hated this. When the vocals were not grating on my ears I felt like I was being assaulted by incredibly strange and awful instrumentals, especially on Date With the Night and Man. Also, I thought Blood Sugar Sex Magik was excessively horny, but Yeah Yeah Yeahs showed me what it is to go even further beyond. *Al Pacino voice* “JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS OUT, THEY PULL ME BACK IN. Tracks 9-12: Maps came on and I immediately was like “WTF THIS BAND MADE THIS SONG??” I’m pretty sure this song plays at my work and maybe it’s Stockholm syndrome from hearing it for almost a year now, but I like Maps a lot. It honestly single handedly carried the album for me and prevented this from going in the “1” dumpster. Y Control and Modern Romance follow up with perfectly listenable tracks. Nothing I love there, but they’re okay. And, for this album, okay is good. Poor Song is originally a hidden track, I kinda liked it as that. It’s just a soft little ending for it all. As for my ratings? Fever To Tell: 0/5 Maps: 4/5 Average those together, that's a 2.
All style no substance, felt like I'd not even listened to this a few hours after having listened to this.
Hmm okay
not for me, very samey
I don't get this one either. It's screechy and feels very "look at me." Maybe I just don't like music?
