Reviews (page 5 of 7)
eh it was ok lol
Decent grunge I guess. Idk it was very basic.
Not a bad album, thought I would like it more. Were a few good ones on here, I feel a lot just lost direction. Will give this a 3. T3B 1. Check-Out Time 2. Shoot The Moon 3. Good Enough
The best I can say is not awful
Better than the last 2 albums... but kind of sounds like what you'd hear in a garage in suburbia of high school kids rehearsing as a band for their \"gig\".
Great to hear a band from the early days of "grunge". I'd definitely heard the name of the band but I don't recall hearing any of their music. I know in the context of the time and place when they recorded and released this album, I would probably be into it, especially if I had been younger when grunge really took flight. Like a lot of people my age, at least those who were exposed to Western music almost exclusively in their formative years, I've heard so much grunge and grunge-influenced music that at this point it's really tough for any of that music to stand out. No fault of this band or this album, of course. Putting all that aside as best I can, I get why this album is considered quite influential and I hear so many elements in here that show up all through the 90s+. Fun cover, by the way, and funny album title.
This album was alright. I've heard of the band Mudhoney a lot because I liked a lot of other grunge but for whatever reason never really took the time to listen to them. I wasn't blown away by this album, felt like pretty generic early 90s grunge. A few tracks did standout above the rest but still nothing I think I'd find myself coming back to in the future. Standout Tracks: Good Enough, Into the Drink, Broken Hands, Pokin' Around
I knew the name but never listened to this band. I put it on twice, right up my street. Guitars are so messy I could have played on it
Know the name more than the music! Taking me back with the sound of the 90's! Enjoying it for what it is, don't think it's really a standout from everything else out at the time. I like Into The Drink, Fuzz Gun '91, Pokin' Around and Check Out Time. Not mindblowing, it's a fine record.
Can't say I expected to hear a harmonica on a grunge album. This was okay. I like the sound and the atmosphere, but not much stuck with me. Overall, a nice listen. My favourite songs were Pokin' Around and Check-Out Time.
It's a very average album and not especially interesting band at that. I've heard the name "Mudhoney" on few occasions, but I never actually get around to listen to any of their songs. And apparently, in this case I was lucky. They presented a medley of rock and soft grunge on this album, that wasn't particularly engaging. One song, however, did stand out - "Broken Hands" is a very nice track from the album. Pretty long, compared to the rest of the record, and actually creating some palpable atmosphere. The song will stay on my playlisr for a while, but the rest of the album - back to obscurity.
Played well in the background during drive time.... That being said, nothing grabbed me and said listen to me again
Not to my tastes.
Some pretty good stuff. Kinda edgy. Nothing that really blew my skirt up though.
I used to like their music but never liked their singer’s voice
It's a pretty solid 90's alternative rock album. I didn't love it or hate it. It has its moments. It's pretty much how I've always felt about Mudhoney.
3 st
This album picked up a bit around the third or fourth song but still not to the point of being memorable. Pretty lame grunge but the baseline on something so clear is solid.
I read that this album saved Sub Pop from financial ruin. If so, then good on Mudhoney for not biting the big league bullet and staying loyal to the indie world. There could have been many different avenues that the band could have taken and many million selling albums to hang their hats on but EGBDF is evidence of the band being fine with where they were and being better off than most. Favorites: Good Enough, Something So Clear, Broken Hands, Who You Drivin' Now?, Shoot the Moon, Fuzz Gun '91, Don't Fade IV, Check-Out Time.
I have had this album for years and never listened to it all the way through. Perhaps I should.
I know they're seminal to grunge and all, but not my favorite.
This is what grunge actually sounds like, though the production value on this one is pretty high. Decent set of songs, with a couple of standouts. Like a lot of punk records, this could start to get a little monotonous if it were any longer.
Great production that balances the fuzz with clear vocals and punchy drums. "Good Enough" is my favorite track. The songs are average. There is some variation in instrumentation which is cool but I find the collection as a whole to be somewhat monotonous.
Pretty good
pretty trippy, pretty fuzzy, pretty good. 3.5
I liked the Superfuzz ep better, what's done here didn't quite fill an album's worth for me. It generally displays that failing of grunge for me: is it really more than dressed-down rock with punk trimmings?
Not crazy abt it
Starts of quite well, but turns kinda flat after that. "Let It Slide" (track 2) and "Something So Clear" (track 4) were the highlights for me. I like this type of music so I didn't feel the need to skip any tracks. A forgettable 3.
Grunge punk with a kind of slightly lo-fi Dinosaur Jr feel. Not really enough hooks to grab me. A low three
Pretty straightforward grungy rock album. Even though it definitely has an indie feel to it I am really let down by the production. It sounds so weak and flat. I felt that in the intro track and was hoping that it was just the intro track being a bit of an appetizer for the rest of the album, but as soon as I heard the second song I felt kind of "meh". Everything was kind of middling and average? I didn't love it.
Mitä saa kun laittaa Nirvanan, Lynyrd Skynyrdin ja Bad Religionin tehosekottimeen? Mudhoney ei ole oikea vastaus. Perushyvä levy.
From the "grunge" era, this is probably the band I liked the least.
Nothing stood out to me, but overall an excellent grunge album.
It is a grunge album, but it is not overpowering. I did not skip any of the songs. The music itself is good and it doesn't get annoying. The lyrics are just there. The dial did not move much on this album.
Great discovery!
Yeah.
Enjoyed this, listened twice as the first one passed really quickly
I like some of the songs and the grunge/rockish sound but the vocals and some of the other songs don't do it for me
A solid grunge/alt album. Nothing to really complain about but nothing to heavily praise either. Glad I finally checked these guys out. Favorite: Shoot the Moon
Sludgy guitars and shouty vocals. It's like you have stuffed your ears with fudge - which you deserve obviously. Best Tracks: Let It Slide; Good Enough; Who You Drivin' Now?
3.5 - Hard charging early grunge with heavy guitar sounds. I don't prefer the addition of harmonica on songs like "Move Out." Standout: "Good Enough"
on paper, I should enjoy mudhoney. but this album ain't it, chief.
nto bad
Kinda funky, kinda fuzzy. Listenable but not memorable.
Average vibe but some chill music
Hands down the best grunge band that no one has heard of
Would anyone even know this album (or band) existed if Kurt Cobain didn't sing its praises? It's a fair question. Nirvana, and especially Cobain, were such a huge curiosity when they broke big that the music press went out of their way to find out what made Cobain tick to the point that any artist he cited as an inspiration were then equally dissected. If Nirvana are the Beatles of grunge, then Mudhoney is the genre's Bill Haley. Mudhoney's debut EP became popularly known as the starting point of grunge, but that one is a tough listen. Like the Beatles, Nirvana's music still seems timeless, where this album sounds exactly like 1991 or '92. That's not a bug as much as it is a feature. Every genre needs its very own Big Bang moment, and Mudhoney was at the very least the spark that ignited Nirvana's bang.
To the same extent that I liked the first Mudhoney I received on this list, I "disliked" this one. It's not bad, but while "Superfuzz Bigmuff" is raw and authentic, "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" sounds generic and expected as any 90s grunge. Maybe it's just my mood listening to it today or the not-so-good recording quality, but it's not the best from Mudhoney. It's still worth listening to this album, but it's forgettable.
It’s a ok album it was decent for a band I’ve never heard
Just about scrapes a 3
Helt grei grønsj/punk. Hadde sikkert gitt en ekstra nostalgistjerne om jeg hadde sett dem da de spilte på Hulen i sin tid
God skit
Greit
Pretty good grunge record. There weren't many tracks that stood out to me, but it was enjoyable the whole way through. Favorites: "Good Enough", "Broken Hands", "Move Out"
It was good at the start but got a bit samey as it went through.
Pop com pega grunge.
3, like this overall but some songs seemed sub par
This was hit and miss. Some quick, short punky songs, some obvious grunge defining tracks, some solid instrumentals, but overall nothing that stuck with me.
Punk but the guitar gets a considerable exposure to spotlight. And I guess that's how grunge is born. Those "grungy" tracks are the best in the album, "Generation Genocide", "Thorns", and "Broken Hands". The rest are, to be honest, just mediocre punk.
Meh
This is an interesting one to come back to after many years. I bought this album when I was young, but it didn't make much of an impact on my, and I didn't listen to it all that much. I think now that some of the reason that I didn't immediately like this album is that the vocals aren't mixed very well. They always feel like they're fading into the background a bit, and that leaves nothing out in front leading the band. I think a remastered version of this album could be really cool. As it is, there's certainly a lot of promise here, but it doesn't quite follow through 3/5
Loved the energy, of not the aesthetic
It reminded me of early REM but grungier!
A bit of a blander listen than I was hoping for, but not bad at all.

Fuzzy
This is fine, it's not bad but it's definitely not good.
It's ok I guess, rough and energetic, shouty punk-grunge. But seriously, Superfuzz Bigmuff is on the list too and you don't need to hear 2 Mudhoney albums before you die.
Ok grunge, not quite as angsty or infectious as some of its contemporaries *cough* Nirvana *cough*
Not a great guitar sound or vocal but it all matches at the very least. If smash mouth wore eyeliner
Not quite lo-fi, not quite grunge, this album was in between in a way that it made it less interesting to me than it could have been.
It's pleasingly heavy and amateurish. Like Nirvana if they weren't getting first rate producers in. I would have adored this 20 years ago. It's great, noisy fun, but some of the edge lord nihilism is a bit dated and meh. I enjoyed it, but I don't know if I'll go back to it.
I like classic rock, but wasn't really in the mood.
Pretty enjoyable, pretty creative, pretty good
Grungy & angsty, love it. Fave lyric There's a certain comfort in being confused. I revisited the book Touch Me I'm Sick while listening - Charles Peterson's photojournal of the grunge scene. Made me long for my youth and another beer! My Highlights! Generation Genocide Broken Hands esp guitar solo Move Out Shoot the Moon
Door dit album snap je ineens weer heel goed waarom veel mensen ook geen zak aan grunge vinden. Ik kan het nog wel hebben, maar met de hakken over de sloot... Die stem is echt verschrikkelijk.
Another one I've heard of but probably never listened to. The first few tracks and the last one were a lot of fun. I'll return to those for sure. It reminds me of Sponge and Morphine.
These "important" bands never really do it for me. I guess this is considered the beginning of grunge, but I just didn't hear many songs that stood out to me. Wasn't bad at all but not that good either.
There’s the grunge!
Got a Nirvana sound for sure. I like their whole vibe. They seem like a fun band with a great sense of reality around them. They also sound a little like Pearl Jam. That Seattle Grunge scene was remarkable.
I'm not sure "charming" is the adjective that comes to mind with this album, but it does have an exuberant, fun garage band feel without ever becoming unlistenable. I like the fast, edgy "Thorn." Not too many songs stand out for me, though. I was going to remark that the lyrics as a whole were pretty bland, but then I got to the verse about "Driving reckless in your Pinto/full tank of gas" which made me smile real big, but I didn't find many other moments like that. I liked the look into early Seattle grunge. I liked it more than I thought I would (and probably more than I would have in 1991). I didn't like it enough to listen to 15 bonus tracks.
As a Seattle-ite, I'm glad I've now listened to a Mudhoney album. I was solidly...whelmed. I didn't want to leave the room because of it or anything but I'm not in a big rush to listen again. I did listen to it twice: once on headphones, mostly just paying attention to the music, and again on speakers while doing other things. I liked it better the second time. As my sole focus, there wasn't much there that caught my interest, nothing particularly unusual or catchy or moving. But while I was doing other things (making breakfast, answering emails), I found myself bopping around a bit to it. That's gonna elevate it from a 2 to a 3 for me. Thanks, though, Mudhoney for saving Sub Pop.
I haven't listened to Mudhoney before. They are somewhat similar to some of the grunge bands I have listened to, with stronger punk influences. I liked it well enough, and there was some good playing going on, but it never really grabbed me. I liked the guitar solo in “Thorn”. “Fuzzgun ‘91” would be great for a grunge beach movie. “Pokin’ Around” was my favorite song - the harmonica was a welcome addition. I don't know if I would have liked this album more if I had listened to it when it was released. Today, I didn’t mind listening to EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FUDGE, but I can't say I'm very motivated to do so again.
Fun, kinda grungy music I guess is how I’d describe it. Not my favorite but I’d leave it on in the background sometime.
5/10. They seem oddly self aware about song length. Like all of the songs that extended much longer than 2 minutes did so because they were a bit better than the rest of the album. Still pretty meh from where I'm standing though.
Very Garage-y aesthetic. Let It Slide is good. The low recording quality makes all of the songs sound exactly the same. Shoot The Moon is more my speed, but Move Out was good too. The harmonica does a lot to add something bright and cutting with everything else being fuzzed out, like in Pokin' Around.
3.5
Pretty cool
I like the heavy guitar rock instrumentals. Vocals are average and expected from an early 90s record. There are some highlights in the record where the instrumentals intertwine with the vocals very fluidly however. Lyrical substance is questionable.
Pretty good rock music
i think they broke ground with some of the lyrics and the instrumentation was usually interesting. southern grunge vibes.
It's a solid-to-good grunge album to listen to, but some of the studio decisions kind of baffle me. Why is there an acoustic guitar only on the right channel on Broken Hands? Why is there a harmonica on Pokin' Around?
quite noisy, few moments of a bit of a groove
The guitars were mud, honey
Was OK, nothing special
Pretty decent punk album. Nothing too memorable, but it was a good listen.
Not bad but kind of irrelevant
I see the appeal but not for me
Another album I wish I had heard back in the '90s
Heavvvyyy 90s fuzz-rock with some pretty good hooks. It's like if the Eels were more angry than sad and feels very much like the early 90s while somehow riding the wave of more modern (2010s) sound that makes it relatively timeless. Still, it's not entirely my style
Not bad. Little more mellow than I expected
Recht door zee grunge. Dit is genre definiërend. De mondharmonica in sommige nummers stoort me. Beetje eentonig op momenten. Leuk om eens te luisteren om de zoveel tijd
Nice grunge
This is so quintessentially grunge I could practically feel my clothes turning plaid as I listened. I was very into the whole grunge thing at the time, and hearing this now is both nostalgic and yet also feels rather cliched. Once you put aside that it isn't a parody, it came before the cliche, then it's all quite enjoyable.
Typical 3 stars for me, nothing special
Grudge
Grungy, scuzzy, blues. Sometimes out of its goddamn mind, but overall a pretty cool look as to what was going on in 91. Favorite tracks: "Shoot the Moon", "Love Gun 91", "Check-out Time"
Not really my thing, but still quite enjoyable psych garage.
eh
I wouldn’t know Mudhoney existed without the Singles soundtrack. This is not that. Same few chords and lousy vocals. The drummer seems ok. Not a very enjoyable album even in the 90’s.
Oh goody, another album full of shitty 2 and a half minute alt rock/grunge songs sung with a grating voice. There is absolutely nothing here you couldn't find made better elsewhere, and I have no idea why this is considered a must listen before you die. Just rubbish
All of the energy and angst of Soundgarden but without any of the talent.
Meh
Not sure why its on the list to be honest
Ok I guess. Didn’t really move the needle for me though, feel like there was a few grunge bands during this era that were somewhat overhyped
Slightly boring
Not for me
boring
Just a bit too hard for my tastes, especially because I didn’t recognize any of the songs.
Not really naw
I’m very indifferent about this. Grunge is definitely not my style but this album was fine
I get the spot this holds in the Seattle rock scene, it’s got that messy garage punk vibe and plenty of fuzzy riffs. Parts of it are fun and definitely nail that DIY '90s aesthetic, but overall, most of the songs just kind of blend together for me. It ends up feeling more like background noise than a standout record. Compared to earlier stuff like Superfuzz Bigmuff, this just doesn't have the same bite. It’s cool to hear the raw, dirty sound that helped build that scene, but it lacks the real energy. It’s decent enough, but compared to the heavy hitters of that era it just feels a bit flat and forgettable.
There is no way to put enough lipstick on the pig called Mudhoney. Mark Arm can't sing a lick, the music is garage quality, the songs are subpar. We can certainly give them credit for being part of the initial grunge wave, they're an OG, but they still don't have the chops to make it on the Top 1001. You can hear the influence they likely had on Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Replacements, etc but that doesn't qualify this as a must-hear album. The only tolerable song was "Good Enough" and it's the only one with a substantial lister count (3.7M). Most songs are around 250K listens, that's not impressive - those are reminiscing hardcore fans who loved them in HS or college and used see them at the Off Ramp, Central Saloon or The Crocodile back in the day. Songs like "Broken Hands", "Move Out" and "Who You Drivin' Now" are hard to sit through. Mudhoney isn't a band anyone sits around and listens to today, the music hasn't held up super well and again, he isn't much of a singer. There are no hits or songs another band made famous. Not many people will agree that this deserves a spot in the elite T1001. Kudos for influence. 2 stars
Eh
My wife’ll give me a skelp for this, but I’m not a fan. A little too plodding for my tastes. Favourite track: Check Out Time
I was interested at the beginning, but then it turned into mumblerock.
Oof. They sound like your high school’s second best band. Plodding and repetitive with a couple of good hooks if you’re being generous. These songs should never have left whoever’s basement they used for practice.
I don’t know. I can’t put my finger on the words to review this album. Meh. Punk/grunge rock that’s a little grating I guess? DNF (2)
Definitely never heard of this band. It’s much more exuberant than I expected given the grunge label. I will say it didn’t really take me on a journey anywhere, personally — it feels so in-the-garage it kind of feels like you’re just sitting in a chair listening to them in said garage. Clearly an influence on the 2005-2015 indie rock I grew up on, some of which I’m not sure has aged tremendously well. I don’t really love his voice. The album art is very cute. Fav tracks: Thorn, Broken Hands, Shoot the Moon
No real comments about this one. Didn’t really interest me. Rating: 3/10 Favorite Song: n/a
Takie se. Ani dobre, ani złe. 2,5
puha jeg er ikke vild med det... synes bare det blev lidt kedeligt og noisy.
This is the 2nd or 3rd Mudhoney album, I don't dig it
This was ok. Nothing particularly special or memorable about it.
Bit mid but fine
I was going to give this a higher rating but I listened to most of it yesterday and have straight up forgotten most of it. None of the songs I particularly liked, even if I thought it might be my thing tonally. A couple of songs were actively bad.
Есть только один нормальный представитель гранжа - Nirvana. Всё остальное убого.
grunge isn’t for me
4/10 Def not the worst but not one of my favorites
2.14
better than expected
Didn't care much for this one
Overall, quite a bit of a meh album. Nothing exciting really happened, but it was decent leaving it in the background while I was doing other stuff.
maybe this one isn’t even that bad but i was NOT in the mood for punk today. some of the drums were cool though. may revisit
meh... 2 star
This was an interesting listen at first, but then I just kinda got bored. I had heard of Mudhoney before, but I don't think I'd ever heard anything by them before today. The style was kinda punk/grunge, and they had a sorta Nirvana/Sonic Youth sound to them, but without the spark of energy and clean spunkiness that I want from that genre. I didn't hate the music, but it was a slog to get through the album. Two stars.
Not my favourite.
Poking around in my ears with the god damn harmonica. I already was feeling quite low with this album and this just hurt me personally. It's probably not my genre, but I don't think the vocals or instrumentation hooked me for any amount of time.
Fine example of grunge from one of the founders of this music. Mudhoney is just not as melodic as the Seattle bands who made it big. They never developed an ability to deliver more polished songs with hooks. It’s an entertaining album but for grunge I’m choosing Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, or Nirvana.
I thought it was okay. "EGBDF" has to be the worst (but not terrible) grunge album I've heard so far. The tracks on it are more punk than alternative rock, the latter being more associated with grunge. Listening to "EGBDF" proves that, although Mudhoney helped invent grunge, Nirvana made it special. Anyway, I've had a great week, so getting a bad album was inevitable. 2 stars for "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge".
Hard to focus on this one. It sounded fine.
This is kind of a mess. Anxiety inducing. The harmonica playing is stressful. Fun album art.
Jotenkin tuntuu että tässäkin yritetty hieman liikaa. Joissain biiseissä jopa ihan mukavaa tunnelmaa mutta latteaksi jää kokonaisuus
no resonance
meh
Maybe it’s me but I feel like grunge is not a genre that has aged particularly well. I’ll give this record a “it’s fine” rating, really based on the obvious Neil Young references.
Deed me even heel weinig
It was ok, not my liking but I can see some of the appeal if you like 90s grunge. 2 stars for some small highlights in that album
I appreciate that grunge is represented in this list, but I wish the representation were better. This was a slog of an album, without any tracks really capturing me. It was a wash of angst and toms and deep guitar that didn't earn it's length. 3/10
Sorry, I know how influential they are, but nothing here resonates with me. Its hard to unheard all that came after it and was ultimately done better
Okei Mr rock band
Another introduction to me. I like the idea of stripped-down production and the music and energy on almost every track (especially the harp on "Move On" and "Pokin' Around"). But the vocals aren't my favour. 2,5
2.5/5. Mudhoney were in many ways the band that ushered in the sound of the 90’s. Before Nirvana or any of the other Grubge acts, Seattle had Mudhoney. They never reached the levels of success that the bands they influenced after the grunge explosion would, but they were one of the first to do it, even bringing a pre-Nevermind nirvana on tour with them. so their legacy is undeniable and they definitely deserve to be on a list like this. That being said, I was left feeling pretty indifferent on this album. There’s nothing bad on here but also nothing that really stuck out to me as particularly great. definitely a case where they walked so other bands could take a similar sound and run.
Hmm… it sounds like punk, but I disliked it. Then I realized why: it’s actually grunge. I’ve figured out that I really don’t like grunge, so this album just wasn’t for me. It felt like samey punk without strong hooks or much of a lyrical statement. My favourite track was “Pokin’ Around,” which at least had a good harmonica part to mix things up. 2 stars.
Not the worst thing I’ve heard but just pretty messy and forgettable.
didn’t hate it
Reasonable, but not my first choice. Power grunge.
Just too much noise.
I think maybe you had to be there.
Если бы не нирвана, никто бы это не услышал
Not my thing. Not super into 90s rock like this
Thought I would like this more but it was pretty bad. Has potential with the instruments and vocals but just a lot of banging and hollering.
The singing is too monotonous for me, and the music is too discordant. I feel like I could get into this with repetition, but on a first listen I really bounced off of it.
Deed me niks
My first Mudhoney album and probably my last! Broken Hands was ok but I found the rest of the album a bit of a drudge.
Interesting record but nothing really stands out. They were probably pioneers to their sound but there were other bands that did so better. 7/10 [DROP]
It was aight I see why they weren’t really popular lol.
Meh. Punk guitar and vocals. All sounds the same
Not a grunge fan
Mudhoney was name-checked a lot in those early days of the grunge explosion, but perhaps there is a reason they didn't go big? My only previous reference for them was the weakest song on the Single soundtrack, an all-time top ten for me. That was plenty of reference. At least there will only be one Mudhoney album on this list.
Where are the Melvins when you need them?
Vereinzelte okayishe Songs, machen kein gutes Album. Auf jeden Fall erträglicher als späterer etablierter Grunge...
Good heavy metal music. A bit tense for my liking.
Good music made worse by annoying voice
I listened to this twice, which I don't normally do, and nothing really stood out
grunge + punk = grunk Mudhoney puts out some mediocre grunk, guess you had to see ‘em live. EGBDF is not bad musically, it is not good vocally or lyrically. Top track is Fuzz Gun 91 (instrumental) followed by Good Enough. My take away is that the songwriter is a tortured sole and the lead singer yells a lot. (2.3*a) At least he’s not yelling at me. Maybe just frustrated by Nirvana and Pearl Jam. (Ya might want to check out their Freak Momma collaboration with Mix-A-Lot.)
Meh. I don't think I'd mind if I heard these guys at a local bar, but I also probably wouldn't go out of my way to hit one of their shows. Early on this wasn't doing much for me but it grew as the album progressed. Most of it is pretty standard grunge from the era but there are also a couple of decent jams that mix it up a bit (Broken Hands). They sound like a bunch of older garage rock guys who never made the big time which isn't the worst. It's noted that this was a low quality recording on an 8-track so at times it is just a bunch of noise but overall it came together better than I expected. Not sure what landed this on this list though as there wasn't really anything notable included. 2.45 stars
I don't really like the term grunge because it's not super well defined, and all the core bands sound completely different from each other. But this band being labeled as grunge is one of the most confusing cases yet, I really don't see it. Anyways, it doesn't really matter because I don't like this much anyway. Musically it's pretty drab and derivative, the playing is often sloppy and just doesn't sound that good. Most of it sounds unexciting and frankly kinda lifeless. Where is the edge, where is the gas in the tank?
For a grunge album, it was listenable for me. But not something I would revisit.
Listened halfway through. It was fine
2/5
I didn't enjoy any of this but it didn't rise to the level of inspiring hate or loathing so I'll round up. 1.5/5
Competently made and definitely just ahead of their time, but not my thing. Faves: Let It Slide
Felt like a bit of a slog to get through. Individually the songs were ok, but all together in an album was a bit much.
Album #19: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge - Mudhoney Genre (according to Wikipedia): Grunge, garage punk Singles: Let It Slide I have not listened. Thoughts?: Most of this album was forgettable, I guess because I didn’t understand or listen intently. but I couldn’t get into it. Not my genre, unfortunately. Favorite songs: Generation Genocide, Something so Clear, Shoot the Moon No landscape. No file correlations.
< the Beatles Calling this punk is an insult
166/1089 a few songs in and it’s very much sounding like a 2 star effort for me the snoring bit was awful oof The album was fine grunge/garage rock, it didn’t excite me majorly but it had it’s moments. Thorn was my favourite 48/100
I don’t know. I didn’t dislike it but it really didn’t do anything for me.
Cover art is cool and I like the album name, was listenable but nothing remarkable and got a bit samey pretty early on
Some songs were ok but overall didn’t love it
Grungey/punky. Not my favorite, but I can appreciate that it's not bad music. I don't know Mudhoney, so I'm not sure how influential they've been overall. I would say that it's not my vibe.
ja grunge är verkligen inte för mig.
A couple of bits were okay I suppose
Slammrigt men inte på ett bra sätt. Tvåa
I appreciate the raw grunge energy oozing from every pore of this album. But this isn't my speed and I can't quite critically evaluate it. Lets tolerable than Nirvana but way grungier.
i hate this album pls make it stop. none of these songs will ever be played again. thank you. 2/5
Meh.
Didn't like much of this. Reminded me of Dinosaur Jr but a bit too fuzzzzy for me. Fave Track: Something so Clear 2.4/5
Sort of generic grungy rock - I didn't particularly care for it but it's not actively bad
A fuzzy grunge-adjacent record. I don’t have much to say about this one.
Vocals are more off key than on, production is drenched in muddy honey.
Dinosaur Jr. with worse riffs, Seattle Grunge with less angst, Nickelback with less butt rock.
Another meh, 2.5 rounded down.
OK, first, all good gals and nbs deserve fudge, too. I'm already not a huge fan of grunge, but I can appreciate it. But there wasn't much to appreciate. Mudhoney is a good example of early grunge, especially with how it's mixed with the punk that's abrasive and not as fun as the punk that borders on new wave. But eh. A slog I was happy to finish.
Pretty regular Gen X fair. Nothing particularly interesting to be found here. Doesn't seem like it was an influential album either, as I never hear about it in music circles. Meh
Very generic sounding rock
Noisy garage stuff, not great
Not as good as Nirvana or Soundgarden. Too inconsistent and too many weird interludes.
Nope
Derivative
Apple Music continues to be deliberately mean to these albums. Auto played after this was teen spirit by nirvana. Then gigantic by the pixies.
I bought Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Big Muff as a teen. Loved it and listened to it on repeat. For some reason never got round to buying any other Mudhoney albums and I long ditched the flannel and ripped jeans by the time streaming was a thing. Was excited to listen to this for the first time. But it was pretty dull. I liked Pokin Around mostly because it sounded like Bob Dylan playing harmonica over a Dinosaur Jr track. Nothing else to come back for and the flannel shirts are staying firmly in the attic.
Not that good
This music style is not for me but this is a local band and I know the lead singer so I’m going 2.5
It was okay, I listened... and don't really have too much to say about it. Not very memorable
whatever
I've never listened to this album (42). Pretty forgettable grunge.
NC - noisy crap, energetic, anger driven music of white boys - totally uninteresting to me these days.
Rocked harder than Pearl Jam. Good music to rip out plumbing to. But I don’t think I can name a song. Just loud fuzz washing over me.
Grungy, fuzzy, and full of attitude—but like actual fudge, it’s sweet for a moment and then forgotten. Enjoyable while it’s on, but don’t expect to hum anything later.
Heard it before. I feel like a traitor saying this but I'm not sure what this album is doing here. I was heavily into grunge as a teen but this Mudhoney album was never my favourite, Piece of Cake would've been a better choice. But I don't think the average person needs to hear more from them than Superfuzz Bigmuff anyway when it comes to a list like this (and it's on this list already) 2/5
Whilst I appreciate that some of Mudhoney’s members were formerly of Green River - and so were right at the forefront of grunge - this album just didn’t do it for me. Throughout this, I couldn’t help but compare it to the albums that came along after it, and who I think just did it better.
It’s not called Grunge for no reason
I’ve been going at this site for almost 500 days now, and I’ve had really good streaks, really okay streaks and really bad streaks. But I’m stuck in one of those really awful streaks right now where I feel like for at least 30 days I haven’t had a truly great album. Dunno. Please start coming through, it’s starting to feel like a pain to listen to these albums when they’re supposed to be recognized as some of the best ever, Had good hope for this one, I love alternative. But just another album that didn’t do it for me, not awful, so didn’t mean to take my misery out on this album, but I seriously hope tomorrow is a good album.
When it comes to Grunge, it really comes down to the artist. New band to me, not bad, not horrible, but not quite okay for me.
Naja
I’ll admit I was half distracted listening to this yesterday, but I don’t think that mattered. It was probably better as background noise. I didn’t mind some of the songs but as others have already said, it’s more high school level playing. I’ll give it a 2 purely for the fact that it inspired the birth of grunge.
These guys remind me (a lot) of a highschool garage band. At times the musicians seemed out of sync with one another (which I have no doubt was by design) and every song sounded the same as the last one. A few of the songs contained sections which appeared as though the song was going to turn into a jam session but it always ran too long and I found myself wishing it was over. I’d be okay if I never listened to this album again. In fact, I’d prefer it.
Kind of drones on. Sounds like it was made in a basement. I just think it's boring and really sounds like that middle school band in the talent show.
Bun de fundal
Meh
This reminds me of Dinosaur, Jr. but with a bit more punk influence. Just ok.
I wanted to like these guys back in the day. I wanted to like them now. I feel like I should like them. But something just isn't right or good with them for me.
• 2/5 • The raw, garage-grunge sound is cool, but the songs lack hooks
In a nutshell: every grunge band deserves... Thrashy, fuzzy, excellent guitars and drumming, muddy vocals... and so easy to compare to other grunge acts. Got a little slacker punk vibes. Also, did anyone else notice that some songs were a grunge take on Led Zeppelin? Something So Clear sounded like a reinterpretation of Whole Lotta Love. It was okay, but I preferred Mudhoney's EP Superfuzz Bigmuff. Overall: 4/10
Not sure what the harmonica did to deserve that.
Hated this at the start, but the middle bit did grow on me just a little bit. However, there is better grunge music out there. These boys don't deserve fudge after that effort.
Well there's a reason they're called Mudhoney and not Goodhoney
It's fine. Classic grunge.
Proto-Nirvana grunge. Top track: Let It Slide
I don’t get why this is here. It’s like punk rock Rolling Stones with a lead so by net that sounds like he couldn’t give less of a shit
Well they tried.
Graut. Ikke bånn av bøtta ettersom det er noe elgitar med distortion her.
Grunge isn't really my thing but this one was fine honestly.
'Garagepunk' heet dit. En het ontstijgt het niveau van 'opgeschoten jongens die in een garage wat aan lopen te rommelen' dan ook niet. Okee, het is niet megaslecht, maar vooral ook niet bijzonder goed. Achtergrondmuziek voor een lift in een gruizige flat in Seattle.
I really liked their earlier album (Superfuzz Bigmuff) so I was surprised that I disliked this album. I don’t think this band is good enough to have multiple albums make the list, and unfortunately this is the worse of the two by a lot. Very whiney.
2/5
The first song that made me check my phone and say “maybe I’ll add this to my playlists” was something that Spotify just started playing after the album ended. It wasn’t awful by any stretch; it just didn’t really resonate with me.
nope
It was fine.
The review that said these sounded like songs left off a Tony Hawk videogame was right.
Didn't enjoy it all that much. There were a few slower songs later on that I didn't mind.
I'll admit to being pretty underwhelmed initially by this. Listening more closely to it, there's a bit more to it than on the surface. But only a bit. The singer doesn't exactly bring a lot to the table, and the riffs and songs don't do enough to combat that. When nothing on the album really grabs you and makes you want to strap on a guitar and chunk out a riff, or replay a song, then you're in trouble. Actually, it's really hard to imagine why this made it into a list of 1001 albums - checking out lists of 1991, it doesn't exactly shine in what was a stellar year for rock and pop. It would be like Ned's Atomic Dustbin or EMF turning up on this list!
2+
Much more "polished" than Superfuzz Bigmuff. Doesn't sound very authentic... Budget Nirvana
Early 90s grunge. Fairly boring, there’s loads of better grunge.
Seems like good rock, just not for me.
I miss when drums sounded like this but really, it all blurred together.
very 90s grunge. Too 90s grunge for me
2.5
altrock, 2 not my thing. vocals annoying.
Punk rock, wasn't bad
No mg el grunge buenas letras algunas igual el tema es q no les entiendo un carajo CANTEN BIEN
some fine stuff but nothing notable
Nothing much to say.
Very standard grunge. Nothing remarkable about it in any way.
I get this was hugely influential for the whole grunge scene, but (unpopular opinion) grunge is overrated. I quite like the fuzzy, unpolished sound, and the hard drumming, but the songs just aren't memorable.
kinda boring....hard for me to get into
Not for me. Too punky for grunge, too inconsistent and overall nothing really stuck out
I thought Move Out was good, but the rest didn't do much for me. 2 stars.
Ok 2/5
Nice early grunge
Pretty generic sounding grunge album. Not bad, but not nearly as good as some of their contemporaries. 2.5/5 Won’t listen again
Vähän aggressiivinen mun makuuni, oli verenmaku suussa vaikka yrittivät pitää keveänä. Meni siis jotenkin minusta vikaan. En inhoa silti.
Bändille ominainen, grungemainen epävireisyys toimii omille korvilleni latistavana elementtinä. Mutta tiedätkö, pojilla on ideoita, enkä ihmettelisi, vaikka joku haluaisi kuulla niitä uudelleen. 2,5
Noisy
Another album by Mudd honey, but really is just sound. I can’t say there’s really a ton of art in this that I can understand.
Búinn að hlusta. Fékk 6, var ekki stórhrifinn
Moja cierpliwość do takich płyt się kończy. Znam grunge. Lubie grunge o ile jest zrobiony dobrze. Ale to jest jakaś kakofonia. I to nudna do tego. Co samo w sobie chyba jest osiągnięciem. Wokal mnie odrzucał. Kompozycje mnie nużyły. Daję 4/10, bo bywały tu już gorsze wpadki.
nah
This was the most unremarkable album yet.
It just ain’t that good, man. 3/10
4/10 - when I saw the title of this album idk but I thought it’d be jazz. It was not and it also wasn’t that good but also not horrible
ist mir dann doch zu "punkig"
Mehhh
