Reviews (page 6 of 7)
Very generic sounding rock
Noisy garage stuff, not great
Not as good as Nirvana or Soundgarden. Too inconsistent and too many weird interludes.
Nope
Derivative
Apple Music continues to be deliberately mean to these albums. Auto played after this was teen spirit by nirvana. Then gigantic by the pixies.
I bought Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Big Muff as a teen. Loved it and listened to it on repeat. For some reason never got round to buying any other Mudhoney albums and I long ditched the flannel and ripped jeans by the time streaming was a thing. Was excited to listen to this for the first time. But it was pretty dull. I liked Pokin Around mostly because it sounded like Bob Dylan playing harmonica over a Dinosaur Jr track. Nothing else to come back for and the flannel shirts are staying firmly in the attic.
Not that good
This music style is not for me but this is a local band and I know the lead singer so I’m going 2.5
It was okay, I listened... and don't really have too much to say about it. Not very memorable
whatever
I've never listened to this album (42). Pretty forgettable grunge.
NC - noisy crap, energetic, anger driven music of white boys - totally uninteresting to me these days.
Rocked harder than Pearl Jam. Good music to rip out plumbing to. But I don’t think I can name a song. Just loud fuzz washing over me.
Grungy, fuzzy, and full of attitude—but like actual fudge, it’s sweet for a moment and then forgotten. Enjoyable while it’s on, but don’t expect to hum anything later.
Heard it before. I feel like a traitor saying this but I'm not sure what this album is doing here. I was heavily into grunge as a teen but this Mudhoney album was never my favourite, Piece of Cake would've been a better choice. But I don't think the average person needs to hear more from them than Superfuzz Bigmuff anyway when it comes to a list like this (and it's on this list already) 2/5
Whilst I appreciate that some of Mudhoney’s members were formerly of Green River - and so were right at the forefront of grunge - this album just didn’t do it for me. Throughout this, I couldn’t help but compare it to the albums that came along after it, and who I think just did it better.
It’s not called Grunge for no reason
I’ve been going at this site for almost 500 days now, and I’ve had really good streaks, really okay streaks and really bad streaks. But I’m stuck in one of those really awful streaks right now where I feel like for at least 30 days I haven’t had a truly great album. Dunno. Please start coming through, it’s starting to feel like a pain to listen to these albums when they’re supposed to be recognized as some of the best ever, Had good hope for this one, I love alternative. But just another album that didn’t do it for me, not awful, so didn’t mean to take my misery out on this album, but I seriously hope tomorrow is a good album.
When it comes to Grunge, it really comes down to the artist. New band to me, not bad, not horrible, but not quite okay for me.
Naja
I’ll admit I was half distracted listening to this yesterday, but I don’t think that mattered. It was probably better as background noise. I didn’t mind some of the songs but as others have already said, it’s more high school level playing. I’ll give it a 2 purely for the fact that it inspired the birth of grunge.
These guys remind me (a lot) of a highschool garage band. At times the musicians seemed out of sync with one another (which I have no doubt was by design) and every song sounded the same as the last one. A few of the songs contained sections which appeared as though the song was going to turn into a jam session but it always ran too long and I found myself wishing it was over. I’d be okay if I never listened to this album again. In fact, I’d prefer it.
Kind of drones on. Sounds like it was made in a basement. I just think it's boring and really sounds like that middle school band in the talent show.
Bun de fundal
Meh
This reminds me of Dinosaur, Jr. but with a bit more punk influence. Just ok.
I wanted to like these guys back in the day. I wanted to like them now. I feel like I should like them. But something just isn't right or good with them for me.
• 2/5 • The raw, garage-grunge sound is cool, but the songs lack hooks
In a nutshell: every grunge band deserves... Thrashy, fuzzy, excellent guitars and drumming, muddy vocals... and so easy to compare to other grunge acts. Got a little slacker punk vibes. Also, did anyone else notice that some songs were a grunge take on Led Zeppelin? Something So Clear sounded like a reinterpretation of Whole Lotta Love. It was okay, but I preferred Mudhoney's EP Superfuzz Bigmuff. Overall: 4/10
Not sure what the harmonica did to deserve that.
Hated this at the start, but the middle bit did grow on me just a little bit. However, there is better grunge music out there. These boys don't deserve fudge after that effort.
Well there's a reason they're called Mudhoney and not Goodhoney
It's fine. Classic grunge.
Proto-Nirvana grunge. Top track: Let It Slide
I don’t get why this is here. It’s like punk rock Rolling Stones with a lead so by net that sounds like he couldn’t give less of a shit
Well they tried.
Graut. Ikke bånn av bøtta ettersom det er noe elgitar med distortion her.
Grunge isn't really my thing but this one was fine honestly.
'Garagepunk' heet dit. En het ontstijgt het niveau van 'opgeschoten jongens die in een garage wat aan lopen te rommelen' dan ook niet. Okee, het is niet megaslecht, maar vooral ook niet bijzonder goed. Achtergrondmuziek voor een lift in een gruizige flat in Seattle.
I really liked their earlier album (Superfuzz Bigmuff) so I was surprised that I disliked this album. I don’t think this band is good enough to have multiple albums make the list, and unfortunately this is the worse of the two by a lot. Very whiney.
2/5
The first song that made me check my phone and say “maybe I’ll add this to my playlists” was something that Spotify just started playing after the album ended. It wasn’t awful by any stretch; it just didn’t really resonate with me.
nope
It was fine.
The review that said these sounded like songs left off a Tony Hawk videogame was right.
Didn't enjoy it all that much. There were a few slower songs later on that I didn't mind.
I'll admit to being pretty underwhelmed initially by this. Listening more closely to it, there's a bit more to it than on the surface. But only a bit. The singer doesn't exactly bring a lot to the table, and the riffs and songs don't do enough to combat that. When nothing on the album really grabs you and makes you want to strap on a guitar and chunk out a riff, or replay a song, then you're in trouble. Actually, it's really hard to imagine why this made it into a list of 1001 albums - checking out lists of 1991, it doesn't exactly shine in what was a stellar year for rock and pop. It would be like Ned's Atomic Dustbin or EMF turning up on this list!
2+
Much more "polished" than Superfuzz Bigmuff. Doesn't sound very authentic... Budget Nirvana
Early 90s grunge. Fairly boring, there’s loads of better grunge.
Seems like good rock, just not for me.
I miss when drums sounded like this but really, it all blurred together.
very 90s grunge. Too 90s grunge for me
2.5
altrock, 2 not my thing. vocals annoying.
Punk rock, wasn't bad
No mg el grunge buenas letras algunas igual el tema es q no les entiendo un carajo CANTEN BIEN
some fine stuff but nothing notable
Nothing much to say.
Very standard grunge. Nothing remarkable about it in any way.
I get this was hugely influential for the whole grunge scene, but (unpopular opinion) grunge is overrated. I quite like the fuzzy, unpolished sound, and the hard drumming, but the songs just aren't memorable.
kinda boring....hard for me to get into
Not for me. Too punky for grunge, too inconsistent and overall nothing really stuck out
I thought Move Out was good, but the rest didn't do much for me. 2 stars.
Ok 2/5
Nice early grunge
Pretty generic sounding grunge album. Not bad, but not nearly as good as some of their contemporaries. 2.5/5 Won’t listen again
Vähän aggressiivinen mun makuuni, oli verenmaku suussa vaikka yrittivät pitää keveänä. Meni siis jotenkin minusta vikaan. En inhoa silti.
Bändille ominainen, grungemainen epävireisyys toimii omille korvilleni latistavana elementtinä. Mutta tiedätkö, pojilla on ideoita, enkä ihmettelisi, vaikka joku haluaisi kuulla niitä uudelleen. 2,5
Noisy
Another album by Mudd honey, but really is just sound. I can’t say there’s really a ton of art in this that I can understand.
Búinn að hlusta. Fékk 6, var ekki stórhrifinn
Moja cierpliwość do takich płyt się kończy. Znam grunge. Lubie grunge o ile jest zrobiony dobrze. Ale to jest jakaś kakofonia. I to nudna do tego. Co samo w sobie chyba jest osiągnięciem. Wokal mnie odrzucał. Kompozycje mnie nużyły. Daję 4/10, bo bywały tu już gorsze wpadki.
nah
This was the most unremarkable album yet.
It just ain’t that good, man. 3/10
4/10 - when I saw the title of this album idk but I thought it’d be jazz. It was not and it also wasn’t that good but also not horrible
ist mir dann doch zu "punkig"
Mehhh
Hard to believe they were bigger than nirvana in their heyday and before Nevermind exploded. Even im the 90s could t get into these guys and still can’t. Maybe it’ the mix, maybe it’s the vocals. Maybe it’s Maybelline.
This wasn't very interesting or memorable. 3/10
I preferred Superfuzz Bigmuff, and including this as well feels kinda superfluous. BUT I really like the album art, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ok, fine, ears over eyes. Strictly musically speaking, this really isn’t anything special, so I guess I’ve gotta cap it at 2.5 stars.
Yeah... Nah... There's better grunge.
two albums by this band seems unnecessary
Wasn’t familiar with them. Somehow missed them in the 90s and since I have no nostalgia for this band and album, it was hard to get through. Very pre-grunge alt rock sound but not what I would call quality music.
Klingt wie Nirvana nur ohne die nice stimme. Good enough ist ein schönes Lied! Into the Drink hat einen sehr vielversprechenden Anfang. Der Rest klingt alles sehr ähnlich
Not really a fan, not my genre and I wasn't really pulled in.
Didn't jive with this one.
☀︎ j’aime pas: Good Enough, Something So Clear, Into The Drink, Broken Hands, Who You Drivin’ Now, et là j’ai arrêté d’écouter. ☀︎ j’aime: le fait que j’ai décidé d’arrêter
I wasn't very hopeful for this, I thought it looked terrible. It wasn't good, not gonna lie, but it also wasn't terrible.
Late punk / early grunge. Not a fan of either. The album stretched for longer than I would have wanted. 4/10
I know is not fair to compare bands, especially at a time when they were all striving to define a genre, but this album was like listening to a soft/safe nirvana. Fuck harmonicas !!
There was nothing noteworthy about this album. Other than the name Mudhoney which I only know as a band that Nirvana made obsolete
fine
Not their best
Couldn't do it
Well, it was better than the last Mudhoney we were subjected to, but it's still the most paint by numbers, sludgy grunge you could ever conceive of. There has simply got to be better music than this someone could enjoy listening to.
Not bad
No, no, NO!,
Honestly i didnt understand this music. Couldn’t comprehend what i was hearing at all. Absolutely indecipherable for me
A pretty good album. A little loud and noisy and a trifle messy for these ears at my age. No memorable melodies after 2 listens2.5 stars
I wanted to like it more than I did. At times I heard many different bands I really like: Nirvana, Mastadon, Pearl Jam—but most of it didn’t sit right in my ears. Would return to this again in the future to try again. For now, most of the songs felt like the worst of Dinosaur Jr songs, which was both surprising and difficult to get through at times.
Generic music from a genre that isn’t for me
🫤
i started listening to this at a normal volume and found out pretty quickly that that's not the intended way to listen, so i turned my headphones all the way up. the problem is after i did that i could hear how bad it was. surprisingly boring stuff, and this coming from the girl who gave the simon & garfunkel album a 5. mudhoney were probably really fun to see in seattle underground venues and should have stayed there. the album has a few scattered moments of decent listening and i think i would have pretended to love it when i was 14, but at 28 I'm probably gonna forget it and never think about it again like everyone else. 2/5 i'm increasingly convinced that relative commercial success is the only factor in choosing these albums
Good-ish But Doesn’t Feel Amazing
Early 90's Seattle really was an insane scene, so many incredible bands were created, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam. Mudhoney is not one of those bands.
It's fine. Totally and completely fine. Certainly not like fudge. Especially a good peanut butter fudge. But once again, I fail to retain any songs from it post-listen. It must be something about early 90s Sub Pop records.
Much like many Spotify artist bios I've encountered, Mudhoney's contained a lot of undeserved bluster. Based on what was written you might be led to believe that Mudhoney was the seminal grunge band of the early 90s. I hate to break it to them... they weren't.
4/10. But to grungey but kinda like the Pixies
Bland punk/grunge album. I felt like they lack of personality and they added little to nothing to the genre in comparasion with another bands. Maybe an unfair point of view, but if there's music that sounds similar to this and is better, and it doesn't bring anything new to the table, then I don't think it is worth my time that I listen to the music.
I'm not big on grunge, so this was always going to be a long 40 minutes. There's honestly bits of this album that I enjoy, but it's disconnected, and drowned out by the sheer amount of everything else.
Nah
Discordant grunge/punk, not my thing. Probably would have loved this as a teenager
Rock, Punk, 1991 -> 2
I understand Mudhoney's influence, but apart from that this isn't really doing much for me. It's very primitive sounding grunge in the same year that Nevermind and Ten came out. I like the lo-fi production here, but it doesn't add what it needs to for this album to be any less boring. Standouts: Thorn, Pokin' Around
Pre-listening thoughts: just when I thought there could be no more 90s grunge, there’s always more 90s grunge. I will say I like the title and album cover of this one. I doubt the album will hold the same whimsy but whatever. Post/during listening thoughts: listened to the song “Let it Slide” while I took a dump. It did not, in fact, help “Let it Slide”. 3.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Fuzz Gun 91, Pokin Around Least fav tracks: Broken Hands, Who You Drivin Now
Sonic Youth did this in 1988
5/10
Irritating grunge performed in a way I don't enjoy
Whilst this probably had some important cultural and musical impact on a lot of bands that I quite like, I don't think it has necessarily held up particularly well sadly. A little bit flat and uninspiring.
Quite hard to finish, not very good overall. 2/5
Meh.
expected more, but it is what it is..
1.5 didn’t like it but wasn’t as bad as I first thought
When it came up, even though I hadn't heard anything by Mudhoney before, I said: hey, great, grunge, I'm going to like this. And the beginning, the intro song was great. But by the end, this album tired me so much that if there had been another song, I don't know if I would have finished it. Pale, unimpressive, not a single song stood out, it didn't make me add it to liked to listen to later... But because of the sound that I love, 2/5.
Very flat and uninspiring. Just another forgettable grunge/punk band
Mildly annoyed, glad it's over
Yeah, this really isnt my bag. I could see the odd flicker of tune, musicality or origionality rise up above the noise, but it was still unappealing
-ehhh -def not my genre -i think some people would enjoy this -my fav song was probably Broken Hands? -my least fav was Into the Drink
Don’t like the music or yelling vocals. Annoying noise is the best way for me to describe this.
Thought I might like it but ended up ugh.
Slušala sam ih malo kao tinejdžerica, ali nije baš bilo moj djir ni tad. Šta ja znam, nije najgore što mogu čuti tu, ali nije ni da mi stvara neko oduševljenje. Dosta dosadnjikavo zapravo. 2/5, 3/10.
A grunge album
queeee se yo, como que me quedé en el medio
eh, not my favorite
noise
Ehh..
I only listened to half of this one before my spouse told me to turn off that racket! But then I realized i didn’t really need to listen anymore either.
low-mid
I really tried to like this one, honestly. All of these tracks are fine. Some of them I'd even say are quite good. But this album felt like a bit of a slog to get through and I have no idea why. It sounds like an album full of songs that didn't quite make the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack. They sound like the opening band you have to sit through before you get to the band you paid to see. Decent enough. Would probably stick on a track or two if I was in the mood for it, but otherwise not for me.
Still not into the genre
80s stuff, just not my jam
Overall, not great grunge. Everything was a little too harsh and unrefined for my liking. If thats how grunge is, then it ain't for me.
One review said this sounds like rejected songs from Tony Hawk Pro Skater and it’s very apt. These guys sound like the opener you have to get through before the band you came to see performs. I don’t know what the person who insisted this album be on the list was trying to prove with this one. I won’t give it a 1 because I’m sure this was really something in ‘91 but it just doesn’t stand the test of time. Not a single song stood out to me and within a year I will likely forget ever hearing it.
I’m just kind of bored listening to this.
Not my cup of tea.
Some good tracks but a band that is much better live than on vinyl
Man I don't care 1.5
Dorky album name, but I dig it
I would take the fudge instead
Pre-Nirvana / Pearl Jam when grunge wasn't just a style, it was a sound no one wanted.
Seems like one continuos, song and not a good one at that. 2 stars or D+ for me.
If I had been a teenager seeing them live in 1990, this might well have been completely groundbreaking. Listening to this in my bedroom in 2024, however, I cannot help but to wish I was listening to a bunch of other bands instead, all of which did a similar thing but better.
One Mudhoney album on this list is enough, and the other one is better.
To be fair I don’t think, overall, I’m much of a grunge person. There was the occasional moment that I enjoyed but overall this was a slog to get through. 2/5
5/10 Fine but not for me Punk rock with fairly lofi production Has that combo of punk + some hard rock + self-serious American band that doesn’t work for my tastes Best: Pokin’ Around
Mér leið eins og ég væri að hlusta á einhverja krakka vera að herma eftir Nirvana og The Hives en tímasetningin á útgáfunni stemmir ekki. Þetta er líklegast grunge tónlist áður en hún varð góð. Örugglega mjög mikilvæg plata sem slík. Upphafið að einhverju góðu en ekki alveg þar samt.
bad grunge, I can't remember a single thing that stood out
Reminiscent of late ‘80’s rock
Grunge and Alt Rock hit when I was a teenager so I loved it but I have to say wasn't big into Mudhoney and on listening again I'm still not for me it just doesn't hold up well against some of the others from that time period. It just sounds like noise, I dunno maybe I'm just getting old.
Not that good. Some songs were ok at best, but the others were just fillers.
Dull and yet annoying.
Didn't jump out at me, but I need to listen again
I just think grunge is not my genre. I liked the beginning of songs but then the actual song would start. I did like many of the solos. And that's about it. I liked those 2 things, so 2/5.
Cool I guess? Not exactly my thing but can imagine if I'd have heard this when I was younger I would have got into it. Not heard much about Mudhoney ever though.
There's a big cultural difference in the paths indie took in the early 90s. In the US I do think it got stuck in this rather uninteresting deep indie sound and forgot the songs.
Pink isn't really my scene.
Roy g biv
Thought the name was pretty fun The album certainly wasn't 2/5
I feel nothing when i hear music like this
Grunge, nix für mich
okay garage rock sound, would prefer Pearl Jam or Nirvana to them. Probably 2.5
Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.
Not terrible, per se, but there is much better grunge out there.
I imagine in 1992 Mudhoney is what you play at party when you've played all the good grunge albums already and want people to start going home. 5/10 Supremely average
It kept toeing the line between 2 and 3 stars. It didn't end up winning me over.
I’ve got a lot of respect for Mudhoney—they were one of the OG grunge bands and Superfuzz Big Muff still rips. But Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge just didn’t land for me. The raw energy is there, and I get what they were going for with the garage rock vibes, but the songs kind of blur together and not much really sticks. It just felt like a slog to get through, and I kept waiting for a moment that never really came. Glad they exist and helped shape the scene, but this album isn’t one I’ll be revisiting any time soon.
Bien
more like dud honey
тяжеловато, гнусновато, нужно больше красивых нот
Too “punk” for me. There were a few riff’s in there that I enjoyed though
I mean, it had some fun moments. I like the edgy harmonica used throughout 😂 Pokin around was my favorite track No idea what the significance is to this album. Based on the release date, it might be one of those records that spawned the grunge rock scene
Some good sounds and even some decent tracks but doesn’t feel like it ever takes off.
I struggled to listen to much of this one, it just isn't very interesting.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, however it's likely not an album I'd hurry back to any time soon.
Nun ja. Kann man mal hören.
The album feels like a throwback to their raw, grungy days. The energy is undeniable, with heavy riffs and rough vocals. Songs blend together, creating a consistent but monotonous vibe. It's loud and unapologetic, but lacks any spark to make it memorable. Great for hardcore fans, but others might find it repetitive. I say this as a Nirvana fan, who is well aware the Venn Diagram of Mudhoney/Nirvana fans is basically a circle.
Nope. Not my kind of grunge. Just not for me..
The first track was a good start but After a while I wasn’t too into it but generally decent.
Very forgettable grunge album, not sure I’ll remember it in a weeks time.
decent sound but I dont like this genre at all
Eh...this wasn't really my thing tbh. I didn't mind a few songs but thinking grunge isn't something I like much. I was a little too young at the time to seek it out on my own, and generally speaking neither of my parents liked it much (with the exception of Nirvana) so I wasn't really exposed to it. While I am not sorry to try it out and see if I can develop a taste for it, so far I haven't really found the right group/sound to convert me to a fan. That said, I think maybe if I did like the genre more I would think this was pretty good? I did at least somewhat enjoy some of it so that's my best guess. TL;DR maybe listen and you will like it if you are a fan of grunge. Otherwise this is probably forgettable if like me, you aren't much of one.
verkligen inte dåligt men inte min grej. Kände mig lowkey inte tillräckligt cool för att lyssna på detta. Diggar dock albumomslaget
Ehhh this is a bit too shouty and messy for me. Every song sounds the same. It had me longing for the next album and hoping it’s even remotely better than whatever this is
I just don't know how to feel about this kind of music. I have trouble taking it seriously in a way. I thought it was completely fine to put on and do other stuff to, but I couldn't focus on it. I perked up for Who You Drivin' Home and I have no idea why. Maybe it just sounded a bit more interesting or different? I think the rhythm the guitar played was more broken up than the sort of steady strumming of the other songs. I liked the harmonica that showed up in and after Movin' Out. That was fun. The choice to start a track with thirty seconds of snoring was inspired and almost made me want to give it another star.
Most of the songs are just unpleasant, angsty noise. This must be how my dad felt listening to my music growing up. I might have liked this album if the production quality wasn't complete garbage.
Sounds like a collectin of guys playing in their garage. Vocals are monotonous and at times boring.
2.5 it aight
Nothing about this interested me in the least
Wouldn't mind seeing them live, but this recording doesn't do it for me. Needs either catchier melodies or more punk aggression.
Not feeling it. 2
Didn't really give this my full attention to be honest... didn't grab me much.
not for me
A good speaker matters with this one. Sounded quite different depending on what audio set up I put it on. The vocals seem to range from whining to moaning to screaming. Never with much articulation. Oh, let's not forget the... moo-ing... on track 13. Good Enough gets a bit jangley for me. Were they intentionally dissonant in Don't Fade IV? I'm glad that I can now say that I have listened to Mudhoney and that I do not like them. That's two Seattle bands in the last week that are a no for me (the other being Here are the Sonics by, you guessed it, The Sonics). Hopefully, they don't take my residency away. Listened to the original 14 song, 42 minute album, not the bloated 29 song 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Ugh. I can't even imagine wanting to spend close to 90 minutes with this. Every Good Band Draws Fans. Not this time.
Nothing spectacular for a post punk/ grunge era album. It's certainly not the best of the decade and rests on a lot of similar troupes common for the time. I guess you can say that they added a harmonica and that's innovative? I don't know, sounds like all they did was tee up the Gin Blossoms to do the same thing but softer and I don't think that's a compliment.
This album has cute artwork and a fun title. The music is maybe a bit too garage-y for my taste. The electric guitar strumming is constant, the vocals are often shouty, and the music is generally loud. And all this is made worse by a lack of both depth and variety.
Not my jam
So I was well aware of Mudhoney back in the day, along with the other Seattle grunge bands, and had heard a few songs – but they didn’t click like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, or even Candlebox.. Probably related to them being more punk, as opposed to being more grunge, but that’s me… Found this to be a fairly straightforward punk album, with just a splash of grunge… Not great, but most songs were pretty solid… “Broken Hands” was the first song that got my attention, and from “Move Out” through the last half of the album, the song quality seemed to pick-up… Not nearly as talented as their contemporaries, and more punk than grunge – the best I can give this is a 2, as there is no way it’s a 3…
Not for me.
A bit pink, a bit grunge, a bit Black Sabbath, a bit weak. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Let it Slide Date listened: 01/05/24
Improved as I listened but I probably won’t bother to listen again so 2*
They hit the nail on the head. I'm confounded. Their version of Good Enough is not very similar to Sarah McLachlan's. It's OK. But not as good.
Somewhat characteristic 90's anst rock
Good to get to know this album. They helped start grunge. But were nowhere as good as some of the others.
I went through my grunge phase in middle/high school nearly a decade late. I wore flannels and ripped jeans in 2001. I've known about Mudhoney for at least that long, though I've often confused them with Meat Puppets (in name alone). Meat Puppets were good. This is... fine, I guess? I can at least understand why it would be on the list, given that it's one of the earliest examples of grunge. It's just not super listenable, I'm not tapping my toes, I'm not expecting to have any of this stuck in my head, I'm not going to go out and listen to the rest of their discography. But I have finally listened to a Mudhoney album, so I can check that off the list of things I never really intended to do. Stand out track is definitely "Broken Hands" which is the first time they show that they have the capability of at least a little dynamic range. Otherwise, much of this sounds like teenagers playing their instruments loudly with novice ability. I guess if that's your thing, cool, but it's not what I want to listen to. My eardrums are already dead from my time listening to stuff like this.
Elevator music of grunge. Every song sounded the same and it went on for too long. Not a fan.
Grunge
Don't whine and moan at me. Unsustainable.
2/5 ..... and no comment!
Entry point for grunge, but as listenable than later bands
Not the good kind of grunge
I expected this to be kinda funky based on the artist name. Kinda feels like a better version of the Butthole Surfers as we come right off from that ride. Move Out was probably the best. Grunge still continues to be toward the bottom of my list of favorite genres, but this one wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either.
I don't get it, it's a pleasant listen, Good Enough and Thorn in particular, has good energy and everything, but not remotely deserving of a place on this list. 2.
Did not get much out of this tbh. Grungey, noisy, not much in the way of a tune or lyrical interest, but at least it felt like they were having fun. 2/5.
More punk than I was expecting, which is not my favorite genre. Didn't love the probably purposefully low production quality, but other than that nothing stuck out as terrible. Just not my bag.
Decent album, raw production but still creative. Songs blended together a little for me.
Noise
A pretty average version of a style of music with limited room for error.
Meh, wasn't super impressed, 4/10
Only a couple songs I liked
Muddy garage rock. Some nice riffs but also messy-Not my jam 2/5
Not sure it was basic
I knew the name - back then - a must see band - but its at what I call the 'hard' end of the JJJ musical spectrum for me
No thank you I’m good 😊
Enjoyed it, enough. Repetative.
Nothing really sticking out on this one. It has an energy more akin to garage rock than grunge if you ask me, but that's not enough to make it really interesting.
Meh. Nothing to see here, move along.
It wasn't bad, it wasn't good, it wasn't at all. Too samey, nothing memorable. I don't get it.
nee
Goofy ahh album. En dan nog het lef hebben om een kind van 4 je album cover te laten maken
Dit waren een zware 42 minuten moet ik zeggen. Niet echt leuk
Didn’t do a whole lot for me
Eh!
Bad, better than a lot of other meh grunge but most grunge is not great. You are not gonna get me to like Pearl Jam or Soundgraden, sorry, I do not care
Very mid album. Top tracks: Into The Drink
Did nothing for me
“Good Enough” was good! Surprising harmonies. But very repetitive.
Favourite songs: Shoot the Moon, Who You Drivin' Now?, Into the Drink, Something So Clear Least favourite songs: Don't Fade IV (what's with the random snoring noises?) 2/5
Grunge seems to be either very good or very bad. This is the latter. If I was 15 and gave it a hundred listens I reckon I'd have grown to like it. But that time has long gone.
Nervig...
Ist mir vor allem anfangs zu punkig = nervig, anstrengend, repetitiv. Cooles Album Cover.
2/5 naaaaah
5/10 Unfortunately no song stands out
Sounds like a high school band but worse.
2/5
I wasn't aware of Mudhoney and have little desire to hear them again. The sound is just flat and the longer it went on the worse it seemed to get.
A bit of a fan of fuzz rock, but this is a less defined sound than Mudhoney's big hitters and, ergo, comes across a bit generic
I’ve never really found Mudhoney that interesting. Their Superfuzz Bigmuff EP is pretty admirable for its time as a proto-grunge release but they never really took it to the next level. By 1991 we’ve seen Nevermind, Ten, and Badmotorfinger, and Facelift is just around the corner. While this record has a lot of energy, with that pretty clear Dinosaur Jr influence, it just lacks the catchiness, directness and ambition of those other releases
never cared for garage music, grunge generally on thin ice. this album is psychologically irritating to be with and i think it’s at least partially on purpose
every song sounds the same
Not really much of anything.
Fuck grunge
Skipped through most of it. Labeled "garage punk" which sounds accurate. Probably would have been better in the day. 2.5

Better than expected. Very Stone Roses, Jesus and Mary Chain, Velvet Underground, Sigur Ros. Smooth production. Not too loud or too much. Nice balance. Not too pop, not too avant garde. Kinda peaceful.
Interesting album from one of the founders of the Seattle grunge scene. I had to keep forcing myself to finish this one, I don’t think I was in the right mood today haha. “Fuzz Gun 91” was a standouts track; I enjoyed how it was an instrumental. Not a lot memorable from this album but it wasn’t horrible. Two stars.
Not a fan of grundge really. The songs all sound the same and i really didn't want to sit through the whole thing 1.5 stars
not for me
Known before: Nothing Standouts: / Rating: 3.0
Meh.
Only a couple of decent songs, mostly they sound like a garage band
This may be the best 2. But I have rated so many things 3s that are so much better than this. This should be a 3, but in comparison, it's a 2.
não estou com humor para grunge recentemente, deu minha cota de nirvana esse ano
Mostly exhausting. Some things I like about it, like the fuzzy sound, the raw parts of it. Makes sense that they're a Seattle band drawing comparisons to Pearl Jam, another band I have similar difficulty appreciating for some reason.
So far, this is really floating by in the background. feels like kinda generic grunge.
Repetitive
This album doesn’t even have the common decency to be bad. It’s just meh.
clear as
I like the music a lot more than I like the vocals. Apparently they paved the way a bit for grunge, but give me Nirvana I think. But again maybe it's just a genre I don't like that much
It ain’t no Nirvana but it’s alright.
lost interest fast
I’m not really into grunge, but my friend Andy does!
This was a long and tedious listen. This does absolutely nothing for me. I don't find it interesting enough to even hate it. Boring 90s grunge rock - completely lacking the pathos or complexity of Nirvana or even Pearl Jam. 2/5
Mudhoney is okay. I appreciate that they pioneered a genre, and it's interesting to here the beginnings of grunge - but it's still just okay.
Just seems kinda bland? I don't get it
Kinda seems like noise. Has recognizeable aspects of punk and grunge but not as good as other examples of those styles. Sounds like a mediocre garage band both in skill and recording quality.
Granted, I listened to this while trapped in a crowded subway car with no a/c, so listening to this on my commute only added to my agitation. It's definitely not BAD musicianship, but no track stood out as something I'd want to revisit. For me, that's the greatest sin of a list called "1001 albums to hear before you die." Nothing I experienced was something I haven't and couldn't have heard from another artist. If I'm being generous, it was interesting to hear a band at the exact midpoint between post punk and grunge. If I'm not, there's a valid reason I'd never heard of Mudhoney before today. You know its a head scratcher of a choice when listening just reminds you of the underrepresented genres, geographies and artists (cough cough women) from this list.
I would have been all over this back in '91. Not so 24 years later on a damp Thursday morning. What a bloody racket. The more melodic tracks such as Good Enough at least dial it down slightly. There's tunes in there, until the dumb reverb swallows them up. I'm surprised I made it to the end.
Nah
Didn't like this. Too rough and raucous with no strong melodies, too shouty.
Un punk medio choto, cansados. Rescato unos arreglitos.
Meh, expected more out of it. Constant repetitive lyrics and subpar vocals. Enjoy the instruments though.
Looking at this appear with a 29 track-long caused a definite sinking feeling. Fortunately, that appears to be the 30th anniversary "deluxe" edition. I'll be sticking to the 14 tracks of the original, thanks. First couple of those tracks I think "They're doing some interesting drumming. The production sounds a bit weird. Is this deliberate?" I think it is deliberate. Interesting. That drumming though. That stands out as being something worth focusing on - if I can. After a while of listening but not listening - I realise that I am bored witless.
Þetta er allt í lagi. Meira post-pönk en ég bjóst við.
Nja...
Not sure this is one of the 1,001 albums I needed to hear before I died, but that cover definitely belongs on the list of 1,001 Very Good Drawings Done By a 2 Year Old. I just absolutely do not get the draw of any grunge that is not explicitly Nirvana.
