windmills of your mind the greatest bond song that never was
Mein Geheimtip ist „The Windmill of your mind“.
When I heard Son of a Preacher Man I immediately thought of one of my favorite movies, Pulp Fiction, so that was a good start. That song is pretty definitively the strongest track on this album for me but that's not to say the rest was bad. I enjoyed The Windmills of Your Mind and Just a Little Lovin'. I think some of the songs just fell a little flat. However, Dusty's vocal performance was solid throughout the whole project.
Dusty's voice is unmistakable and it's hard to tell who does sultry better ...... her or Better Miller. Loved Dusty's cover of Spooky where she drops a little signal re: her sexuality. Of course her top hits are always nice to hear, but this album was very enjoyable all around. 4/5
I always thought she was a country artist for whatever reason. 🤷 Anyway, I definitely liked this. Soulful and buttery vocals. Can't really complain.
Obviously son of a preacher man is the standout from this album not only just in terms of quality relative to the album but culturally in general. The rest of the album was a fun and smooth soul/folk experience that didn’t really have any weak spots. Really great from start to finish.
Got to love Dusty.
Songs follow a pretty similar pattern: start slowly, pick up, end abruptly. Her voice is great. The orchestra is great. Normally to give 4 stars, I would want to listen to it again, which I don't really want to, but I think this is 4 star territory. I didn't dislike any song, and it does have a massive hit.
Awesome crooning - love songs with a story to tell and a couple hits sprinkled in as well. I love it.
New one on me, and a pleasant surprise at that
I thought this was a decent, strong album. Quality.
Best song: son of a preacher man Vibes: warm upbeat soul Themes: innocent love
Stoffig Lenteveld lekker kalm album voor de DGTL kater Zoon van een priesterman is en blijft toch echt een supernummer ook erg fijn in Pulp Fiction
Had a good time with this album. Definitely a pleasant surprise knowing none of Dusty's music aside from that one song in Pulp Fiction. 3.5/5
I expected country from the art and title but it was more soulful easy listening. I was impressed, she was very good. Stand-out: Son of a Preacher Man
Sweet calm lovely
Wow -- I had forgotten what an amazing voice Dusty Springfield had. The arrangements of her songs definitely sound like the products of their time, but her voice comes through as beautiful and immediate as ever.
I liked this vibe. The Memphis Sojnd is awesome
The only song of hers that I knew was Son of a Preacher Man that I heard because of Pulp Fiction. I wound up enjoying this album far more than I thought I would. It's just pleasant background music. To me it's right on the border between four and five stars, but I am going with a four.
Easy to listen to, great oldies/motown production, very solid voice.
Such a great voice
I googled Dusty and found out about her personal life. Glad I did, because the songs hit a lot deeper and lyrics have more deep and double meaning then I knew.
Really enjoyed this, she kind of reminds me of a mix of Olivia Newton John and Barbra Streisand, but with her own unique soulful style. Been a big fan of the Preacher Man for eons, but the rest was new to me. Really dug So Much Love and Don’t Forget About Me.
Ich mag es, aber ich würde es jetzt nicht als top herauspicken.
très bonne découvert ! Très surpris par les premières seconde de la chanson SON OF A PREACHER MAN. Le début identique à Cypress Hill Hit from the bong.
Dusty's voice is very nice :)
Should listen again! and to more Dusty in general
Beautiful soothing voice lot pf pain pn those notes. Perfect LP for realxing.
Better than I expected Adele musta heard it on repeat at some point
majestuoso
schmaltz but oh so convincingly sung. Thank you Dusty.

Would be encapsulated live, surrounded by suave suits, evening gowns, crystal glasses, in the greatest decade of the last 100years. Pure talent.
Whoa, amazing
A delightful album that fully requires it to be listened to in full, in order. Everyone and their mother has heard Son of a Preacher Man but it’s only a taste of the slow and soulful vocals of Dusty. Paired with the Memphis Sound, her voice is elevated and punctual. Slow moving blues will always have a place in my library. Only real critique is that most of the pieces tend to blend together and do sound somewhat alike. I’d treat this album as one 38 minute song than 10 flowing tracks.
A beautiful voice and some of the best known songwriters of the 60s. This is a lovely album. Not the kind of thing I would normally seek out myself but a pleasure to hear.
Dusty’s voice 10/10, could listen to her voice all day. Perfect balance of folk, love ballads, rock and Jazz. 🥇Son of a Preacher Man 🥈The Windmills of your Mind 🥉I can’t Make it Alone HM: In the Land of Make Believe
what a voice. so warm and smooth. like a gentle hug
Great songs, reminded me a lot of the stuff my mom would play growing up, good vibes
If I want to listen to Dusty Springfield I will put this album on, or the other one we had, or more likely whatever Spotify serves up. It's all great
4.75
I meeean its alrighr, like. Woman sings.
Definitely before my time, but it felt like a snowglobe into the 60s. Was not expecting her to sing like that
Son of Preacher man is on this album, who would have thunk it
Fav: son of a preacher man. iconic album, great vocals. loved a few other songs and the whole vibe she was going for
favourite song: son of a preacher man good album!!
Schysst
Not familiar with white "soul", but I feel like that's how this is best described. Dusty has a great voice, and I found this highly appealing to listen to. Not amazing from an instrumental sense, but the songs are really crafted to fit her vocal stylings. I liked it a lot! Fav tracks: The Windmills of Your Mind, Just a Little Lovin', I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore
I really love her voice
The best British soul voice, in my opinion, at her peak on this album.
Lovely music!
Easy to listen to. Beautiful voice, not really my preferred genre but it was a fun listen. Favorite song: Breakfast in Bed
downloaded 1,2,7,9 & 11. was pretty nice. i found it funny when i realized the preachers son song was the song jan from the office is singing her new baby lol
Very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this album. She has great pipes and the music is solid. She does not sound like a Brit.
I did not know what to expect but she has a great voice and the style was very unified.
finally a female artist with a great voice. perfect to listen to on a dreary day while doing some cleaning.
I’d heard the name, but never really listened to her stuff. I only recognized the one big hit, but it was pretty fun music.
Buttery smooth vocals. White soul at it's best, but the over arrangement of the strings really gets on my nerves.
Who doesn’t love an album that opens with a song about morning sex? As the son of a preacher man, I wholly approve.
pretty good, will probably listen again. between a 3 & 4, rounding up music: appreciated. (⌐■_■)
LOVED IT!!!
I loved it, son of a preacher man is perfect
This was better than I expected..
Dusty Springfield had a very successful career in the early and mid-sixties. Her first four albums were recorded in England, and all met with considerable critical and commercial success. Dusty in Memphis was her first album recorded in United States. The album received incredible critical praise, but saw very little commercial success. Springfield never found the commercial success that had during the early years of her career. Dusty in Memphis is regarded as the best of her work. It includes her best-known single, "Son of a Preacher Man." Her soulful voice is accompanied with orchestrations typical of late-sixties pop. This collection of lovely, well produced songs influenced pop singers for generations. Despite its very limited commercial success, Dusty in Memphis is regarded as one of the most important albums in pop music.
Dusty In Memphis is a humble and frank exploration and celebration of love, its value and its all-encompassing effects on an individual, interpersonal, familial, communal and global scale.
White soul. Terrific songs and performances.
Sweet 60s vibes with brilliant production, arranging and musical performances. Some songs are better than others, but the album as a whole is solid
Really good album and I have fond memories of "Son of a Preacher Man" from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. I enjoyed the other Dusty Springfield album on the list as well and I believe I prefer this one to her debut. Would I go back and listen to this album? Probably not, but it was a good listen.
Cinematic western Motown. Sultry. Horns/strings are nice throughout. A nice listen, nothing out of place. Production is smooth and clean.
Wasn't crazy about the voice at first, but after hearing it in a bunch of unique styles and ideas it grew on me. No particular song stood out but there weren't many bad ones either
Incredible sound and the recommendations where great. Adding to the collection
Better than I remember!!!
Son of a Preacher Man is such a well engineered track, that same level of quality isn't reached by any one other track here, but the overall quality is good.
This album is really beautiful, even including the 60s version of dirty macking! Favorite track: Breakfast in Bed
Classic album, great vocals. Highlight it ‘Son of a Preacher’
A Classic
Gillade denna skivan! Hann lyssna på lite mer än halva.
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Just a little lovin’, So much love, Son of a preacher man, I can’t make it alone
Great album to listen to while cooking. High on my list of albums to acquire.
Beautifully melancholic yet uplifting soul-pop that perfectly soundtracked a walk around my snow-dusted neighborhood.
Good album. Son of a Preacher Man Windmills of your Mind
A classic. Dusty’s voice is one of a kind
I thought that she was American, but I was very wrong. This is a very good album, it does prove that white women can sing.
Amazing Soul album. As someone who has just embarked on a 2-year long (so far) rnb/soul journey, I feel this album is a must-listen.
this was a pleasant and enjoyable listening experience. it was also a pleasant surprise to find that some songs were written by Carole King.
Enjoyable listen, a pleasant soul/pop album that gives plenty of space for the strong vocals to shine.
great album, never heard son of a preacher man before somehow. not sure why thats her one hit wonder.. maybe controversy due to the time it released?
Soulful. Smooth. Sultry. Great listen. Other than "Preacher Man" this was my first listen to Dusty Springfield. You get a little pop, a little soul, a little moody R&B. And at only a shade over a half hour, it's a quick listen that doesn't overstay its welcome. I will revisit and explore more Dusty Springfield in the future.
What a voice. What a sound. Fantastic album.
i really, really enjoyed this album, and i find that a little surprising since i didn’t have any expectations for this album, though i do quite like 60s music. full review on instagram @musicwithnessa
Moody. Cinematic. A brilliant dive into late 60s soul-light-rock, including the gorgeous hit "Son Of A Preacher Man". The other tracks are nothing to sniff at either, although they can often be difficult to tell apart from one another. Dusty's voice is pretty magical, and the other instruments (such as horns and strings) are given a chance to shine too. I think it's very important that a solo artist give equal (or close to equal) priority to their band members, even though the music is only under an individual name. The vocal harmonies are good, and should've been utilised even more. The musical harmonies (chords) are unadventurous, which I can sometimes forgive, but not quite in this case. Note: This album is really close to 5 stars. It's delectable, but not delicious.
Liked it a lot! This album is in my collection, along with a greatest hits album of hers.
Ein Lied ist bekannt, ansonsten schön melodisch, gute Musik!
Dejlig !!
Nice, Must have
Son of a preacher man, but with less soul?
What a voice. An amazing record just for Preacher Man.
Beautiful
Wasn't exactly my cup of tea. But I did enjoy it
Very good, I like it a lot. Reminds me of my mom
Very good
Engaging, love the orchestral instruments, variety, passion. Solid album at the perfect length
great drum sound!
She knows how to enjoy her mornings - 3.5/5
I remember listening to this at Geagle and then I realized I didn’t really listen to it so I didn’t rate it. But I was listening to it at work and I enjoyed it a lot. High 4
love a few of the songs!! the others r good by skippable imo. 8.5/10
-A little too much of the 60's orchestrations on some of the cuts -interesting mix of instruments/styles (orchestra, guitar-driven, sitar, etc.) -Great flowing album -Too short -Will have to dive into her other albums
Son of a preacher man is the first song I’ve recognized on any of these albums
I wish i was a pastors son
pretty nice
Almost sounds like Christmas music? Voice a little whiny at times. Overall fire
oh right, the Son of a Preacher Man lady
Schõnes Album
I liked it and took me back to being a very small child
soothing music
I was expecting to not like this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. Full of very pretty, easy listening pop songs. It doesn’t have much substance, but it doesn’t try to and I like that so much.
Fun album
85/100
good

4/5
Great album 7/10
More tempered than earlier Dusty album. torch songs. 3.8
👍 👍
She has a nice voice, and most of it was pretty good. Sometimes it was boring, but I think the good parts are good enough for the album to be a light four. My favourite song was The Windmills of Your Mind.
Great listen. Dusty has great range with a soft voice. The buildup to the chorus’s is what makes this album great. Background vocals are a great compliment to Dusty’s lead. This album brings out many different emotions.
This is pretty good! Better than the other Dusty album. Son of a Preacher Man is just so good. The production is great! The Windmills of Your Mind is also fantastic. 3.5
- Son of a Preacher Man is a great song. I may have heard it before but not 100% sure. - I don't want to hear it anymore is also good! All-in-all, great use of orchestral sounds. Very mellow tone.
Dusty Springfield. Dusty In Memphis. I have a cousin named Dusty. I never thought that she might possibly have been named after this Dusty. I'll have to ask, though she never married the Son of a Preacher Man. Solid vibes. This is a good record to put on to invoke a certain mood. Four stars.
Great range in this album. Love all the different genres.
Awesome songs, amazing singer.
Beautiful, infiltrating voice. Never was listening much to 60'-70' pop, but "Son of a Preacher Man” is a classic that I adore. As whole album is really pleasant. Solid 4.
The Windmills of Your Mind is OP!
This is my first album of this project and didn't know Dusty Springfield by name. Found myself vibing from the first playthrough which isn't always the case for me. Really strong start with Just A Little Lovin'. Son Of A Preacher Man is a classic. The Windmills Of Your Mind is really beautiful and plays with energy in a great way.
Dusty in Memphis. I can’t add anything else to that….
Darn good album
I love her voice, her delivery, phrasing etc. And some great songs and arrangements. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Dusty is classic soul and RnB from the 50's-60's, and this album is probably her most underrated effort. Odds are, your mom or grandma absolutely loved at least one of her songs, given her Motown-inspired style and international flair.
Son of a preacher man - bop Breakfast in bed - bop others - bops
When I want Motown, but don’t. Wall of sound.
Thought album was solid ; better appreciation after the second listen
Strong beginning. Love her voice!! Standout tracks: So Much Love, Son of a Preacher Man
Deserves 4 stars for Son of A Preacher Man alone. Why hadn't I ever heard Windmills before??!?!?
Some good songs on there that I had never heard before.
Another great album!
Thursday morning dream (tuto pâtes)
etre anglaise c pas du tout dans sa personnalité je pense mais bien joué
I love Dusty's voice, it is amazing. So much depth and sexy. Some famous songs and song writers on this album and the musicians are A grade.
Never really listened to Soul music too much but I'm glad this album was my introduction to it. Her voice and the instrumental is so relaxing I love it!
Beautiful voice. Would love to have heard her with a more modern sound, but this’ll do nicely.
4.5
Pretty nice, not really a type of music I'd listen to
Good sonfs.
I like!!
4-4.5, has aged beautifully, unbelievable voice complimented by great production.
Lush and full, a love letter to the end of a musical era. This album resonates with the sounds of similar singers from the 50's and 60's highlighted by the captivating sound of Dusty's voice. A shame it wasn't initially received well, this album is an instant classic
Flott, men litt ikke helt spennende slltidå
L'orchestration, ma voix, tout n'est que chaleur et douceur. Même si ça se trouve elle chante des trucs durs.
Very beautiful album and great vocals, from these 1001 albums I've realized that I LOVE stuff like this. Good album Favorite Tracks: Son Of A Preacher Man, I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore, Breakfast In Bed, The Windmills Of Your Mind, In The Land Of Make Believe
A fabulous listen, great songs allied to Dusty's sublime voice. Son of a preacher man is the stand out track, but there really aren't any fillers on this album.
I first listened to this album in 2019, and i remember absolutely loving it. I hadn't really listened to it since. I wondered why i liked it so much. I think i was about 15 seconds into my listen this morning, and i completely got it all over again. The voice, the instrumentation, the song writing. The songs are so strong on this record. The opener 'Just A Little Lovin' is superb. Son of a Preacher Man doesn't need any explanation. There isn't a bad song on the record Upon looking up the album, I hadn't realised Arif Mardin produced and did the string arrangements on the album. This adds even more gravitas to a great album. It's a four, mid four punching to high 4, but a 4/5 none the less.
She could really sing. I was surprised to learn that the album contains four Goffin/King songs, as well as two songs by Randy Newman.
Quite enjoyable
Aside from her magnificent voice, her special talent was evoking tender emotions - you feel the love sick and lovelorn sentiment and it hits you just right. The orchestration is big and bold, full of instrumentation but softened somehow to match Dusty’s near whispered vocal. Charming.
Pretty good stuff. 3.5/5
Sweet
4.5; really easy listening! Fav tracks are Son of a Preacher Man and The Windmills of Your Mind ⭐️
*Love* "Song of a Preacher Man," and "Don't Forget About Me" (a song I was previously unfamiliar with) is top-notch. The rest of the album was decent, so I'll round up from 3.5.
Really cool folk/country/blues album. It’s funny she didn’t want to do windmills of your mind. It stands out like it doesn’t belong but it is a good song. Overall enjoyable listen even if thematically a little boring
Smooth easy listening
An authentic irresistible voice, sweeping orchestras, Not a generally cohesive album from start to finish but a great collection of songs, it's great stuff!
I liked it alot
Favourite tracks: just a little lovin'; so much love; son of a preacher man; I don't want to hear it anymore; don't forget about me; just one smile; in the land of make believe
Just beautiful songs. Nothing bad to say about this record at all.
Always liked Dusty's voice. Of course if you know her, you know the song "Son Of A Preacher Man." But I think she did a pretty good job on all of the tracks on this album. Obviously some of the songs sound a bit dated, such as "The Windmills Of Your Mind". But Dusty did the best with what she had there. An album that is definitely a nice change of pace for me. I will come back to this one, I want to consider the songs again.
what the heck this girls got pipes and I loved the whole dang thang
Favourite song: Windmills Of Your Mind
Quite a few of the songs on this album are fairly similar, although it is well produced and I can't say I disliked any song on this list although I must admit it's not something I typically would've listened to on my own, good record! Stand out songs: Son of a Preacher Man - Certified Classic The Windmills of Your Mind - A great cover of the song and I'm surprised that it's not referenced as much as other versions No Easy Way Down - A true song I cannot deny, and another classic
Wat een fijn album. Kende de meeste nummers natuurlijk al vanuit Inge's obsessie, maar blijft very nice. Vind Breakfast in Bed echt een lekker opstart nummertje
This is really quite good! This is not the type of music I usually gravitate to, but there's a lot of emotion in the songwriting. And the arrangements are top tier. Favorite track: In the Land of Make Believe
Never knew much other than her hit(s). Great voice, very expressive.
I love her voice but I prefer the songs with more of the soul/motown vibe. I did not know until seeing the album cover that Dusty Springfield was white and I definitely would not have guessed she was English.
Dusty's got some good pipes
a british surprise
BIG classic! You can feel the stature of Dusty Springfield as an influence on generations of Pop and Soul artists. Musical milestone and solid 4/5 in my book. Fav tracks: The Windmills Of Your Mind, Son Of A Preacher Man
Good music
Had a review that got wiped when I cycled my browsers. :'( In any event, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this album. Very hazy with beautiful vocals for the most part; like looking at a beautiful painting covered in shear lace. Standouts for me were Breakfast in Bed, Just a Little Lovin', Son of a Preacher Man, and In the Land of Make Believe. I did have to double take on Son of a Preacher Man when I thought I had accidentally switched to Cypress Hill's Hits from the Bong. This is a solid album that I otherwise would never have consumed. 4 / 5.
This is a great album. Really enjoyed it
Joni Mitchell WISHES she could be Dusty Springfield. very pleasant listen
A good number of definite bangers in here mixed in with some very alright songs. Dusty has such a wonderful voice that puts me on her side. A lovely emotional album that I enjoyed very much and will enjoy again someday. 4/5
This definitely could have been a shorter album, but it’s got a lot of tracks that nail the kind of short and sweet 60s pop that I’m a sucker for.
Beautiful oldie
That smoky voice! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
Круто 👍
What a great album!
This is a lovely album. It's real smooth and chilled. I love her voice, I love the instrumentation and melodies, and it's just a real nice time overall.
Tremendous voice and great production, but this album goes on a bit too long.
She really does have an excellent voice, and there is some melancholic sounds here I enjoy quite a bit as well. I don't understand this "Son of A Preacher Man" praise, though, it was probably my least favorite song on the album. Heresy, I realize, but the album is very good nonetheless.
A classic. Brilliant hits.
Loved it. Son of a Prea her man is incredibly horny and Windmills of your Mind is a tune.
The Windmills of Your Mind absolute banger
Vibe!
Solidly enjoyable
очень хорошая, надо ещё слушать
I somewhat recalled the name Dusty Springfield and got some expectations before listening and I got exactly what I hoped for.
Holy hell! I saw "In Memphis" and was expecting some honky tonk southern drawl. What a pleasant surprise to get a voice like this! I feel like there is a Spanish influence on this album with the drums, soft guitar, and maracas, especially in "Windmills of your Mind" and "Land of Make Believe" Great album. I'm not sure that it's music I'll more regularly seek out, but I certainly enjoyed it!
Dusty's got some pipes! I love when I go into an album thinking I won't know a single song but I end up recognizing 3.
What a clean voice for someone so.... Dusty. She reminds me of Amy Winehouse. Son of a Preacher Man is an obvious jam. Don't think I ever would've guessed it was by this person. The Windmills of Your Mind is fantastic.
Great album. Classic torch songs.
3.6/5
Another solid Dusty Springfield album! Her voice is so sweet and so sultry in all the right places. There is a good mix of pop, soul, and jazz on this album that makes this very approachable and enjoyable from all angles. Arriving in 1969, this album sits as a perfect capstone of soulful 60s women, before music trended away toward different genres in the 70s. It is easy to see where other white female British singers of later decades who exist at the intersection of pop, soul, and jazz probably used this album and Dusty Springfield herself as a blueprint. But it's really no wonder why: the music here feels timeless, enjoyable, and easy to listen to in any decade or era.
The "Memphis Sound" is as far as I can grope for an explanation; These crossover British acts often miss more than they hit, but not here. Dusty In Memphis is genreless, but instead of dissolving into mush stands up like good pop should. Too much artifice prevents one from assessing what is earned or not, but the songs follow each other well and exist on their own merits. And behind the voice, five years before left in its groove, there's lots of energy in the instrumentals.
Very good. Particularly impressed with The Windmills of Your Mind.
interesting!
Much like A Girl Called Dusty, this is a good album, plus it has the iconic Son of A Preacher Man on it.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Dusky motown fare, Dusty Springfield's silky voice decorating the music.
I really liked this album a lot. Saved it for the future. Don't think there's a bad moment in the whole 35 minutes. The strings I loved, the strong start and the cover on Windmills of you Mind was great
Windmills of your Mind is the standout.
Dusty is a bonafide legend and my Dad loves her music so it's always been around me, this is a fantastic reminder of a beautiful sound. It all seems so effortless.
Absolutely magic, this. Struggling to decide between a 4 and a 5, but it's the best album we've had in a long old while. Her voice is beautiful, the album hangs together really well with a few changes of mood and doesn't overstay its welcome at all. It's sweet, but not saccharine, and there are a couple of brilliant songs (everyone knows Son Of A Preacher Man, but I think The Windmills Of Your Mind is even better) On balance, will round down to a 4 as not all of the songs are hers, but was very close to a 5.
A pleasant listen
A pleasant listen.
Some great songs. Some not so great songs. Pretty good rainy day listening.
This should be required listening for any teenage boy trying to get lucky at prom. If I was meeting some friends on a Sunday morning in 1969, I’d throw this record on while strapping on my bell-bottom jeans and my floral headband. Son of Preacher Man is a top 50 song of all time. Plus Dusty is a babe.
Effortlessly cool. A sexy smokeshow of an album. Pass me the bourbon.
Great studio setup and song writers. Basically her "greatest hits" album
Son of a Preacher Man FTW! Easy listening so far, not bad. Sounds like music that could be on a station with The Temptations. These songs could have been used in 1408.
Great folksy compositions!
17th February 2023 Listened in the morning while working from Karuna’s place. Harry Potter studios in the afternoon, Caroline and Ian etc stayed for the weekend. Such a good vibe to this album, it’s chic and cool production combined with Dusty’s voice is immense.
Such a soft sultry voice that commands every song. Dusty was a very distinctive sound, proper chill out time.
Lovely!
Pop. R & B
Much more than the one-hit wonder I thought she was.
A gem!
What a period piece! It has all the trappings of a late '60s. Strong trumpets, high pitched shrill violins (which I love for the nostalgia value), and some Motown rhythms. There are some really great songs with a huge variety of sounds. This is reflected by the number of different writers of the songs on the album. A number of them are covers but I can't really tell if the originals were hits or not. As an aside, two of the covers were written by Randy Newman and first recorded in the early '60s. I knew that Randy's first album was in the late '60s but was surprised to read that he was writing songs nearly a decade earlier. If you want to relax to the vibes of a more simple time by today's standards, this will take you there and leave you feeling wholesome afterwards. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - It was ok to listen to but I wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.
Son of a Preacher Man
Dynamics. What a voice.
This is a very enjoyable album that sounds distinctly late 60s to me. Aside from the obvious Son of a Preacher Man, the song Breakfast In Bed in a standout for me. It's got a short run time but has a good build-up. This is definitely an album to listen to again when I'm feeling a particular vibe.
Lovely gentle listening. 4/5
Makes me think of a female crooner. Good variety through the album, and a nice voice
Sooo...I still don't like "Son of a Preacher Man", but wow. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention when I heard Dusty Springfield songs when I was younger because that voice is pure magic to my ears and this record, although not perfect, is like a warm hug from an old friend. Favorites: Just a Little Lovin', So Much Love, The Windmills of Your Mind
stylish
Ok
Überraschend gut
I have a playlist on Spotify called "Epic girl songs of the 60s and 70s", and this album typifies the music on it. I love it. So much drama, emotion, and beauty. Dusty's voice was so beautiful and textured, and the song selections here perfectly fit her style. 4 stars. BTW, some other songs on my Epic Girl Songs of the 60s and 70s playlist include To Sir With Love by Lulu, I Don't Know How to Love Him from JC Superstar, Wedding Bell Blues by Laura Nyro, and Both Sides Now by Judy Collins. Just great, classic songs with strong female vocals. It's one of my favorite playlists, and it's public so feel free to find and enjoy it!
Very nice album. She's got a beautiful voice.
A lot of these songs were new to me. A classic of sweeping soul: the vocals, the band and the arrangements all work together beautifully. A proper album, eg a suite of songs that all work together, and both tell one big story and are individual vignettes. Not one I would play all of the time, but still an amazing piece of work.
This album is pretty much the blueprint for the many great, strong females records in recent years. You can hear how influential it's been on Adele, Duffy, even Amy in attitude. The horns and the Sweet Inspirations bring out the best of Dusty's voice. You can see why Elvis was so keen to get them on board. Breakfast in Bed is a bit of a tear jerker.
Such. Peaceful, no skip album Lovely sounds Love the sound of reggae Bob Marley is just so cool
Very lovely, soft and clean sounds, almost perfect/pure sounding
Ah Dusty, you had me from the moment your distinctive breathy, sensual mezzo-soprano voice started singing over the opening strains of the first track, ‘Just A Little Lovin’’.
The only song I knew on this album was Son Of A Preacher Man. I'm glad I gave this a try. Beautiful voice, great songs. I appreciate that she doesn't oversing any of the songs. I bet Adele was inspired by this record.
Timeless classic, its a soft and beatiful album but it is a but boring from time to time
Dusty Springfield is a marvellous singer with a beautiful voice. 'Son Of A Preacher Man' is an absolute classic, but the album features more great songs. 4/5
7/10 nice vocal performance, backup vocals were nice as well. I don’t really feel like I needed to hear this before I died tho
Such a lovely voice, the music was gentle and laid back but at no point repetitive. Soulful rock with a British country feel. Legacy-wise, Springfield is a defining artist of the 'blue-eyed-soul' category, but her sensuality makes her voice that bit more captivating Fav song: Just a little lovin
4.1 + Dusty Springfield styles herself as Queen Mistress, the patron saint of all unfaithful married men. She's the woman who's waiting at home, ready to welcome you in her bed, make you breakfast the next morning and let you go your way ("Breakfast in Bed"). In terms of selling a fantasy, there's hardly a songstress with a more compelling persona.
Very atmospheric and enjoyable. What a great voice.
Liiite lo-fi men hon är så himla duktig
kort och gött album

Just a beautifully done easy listening album full of tunes that could have easily been picked up for any Bond movie. The biggest strength of the album is the incredible voice of Dusty - it is maybe not the strongest of female voices but it’s timbre is so sexy it won’t leave anyone indifferent. My favourite except for the obvious Son of a preacher man was The Windmills of your mind - Dusty vocals meeting bossa nova - perfection.
Quite enjoyed this one. Another album where I thought, "oh so this is who this song is by"
Sexy
Instrumentation is amazing and fluid throughout the album - the strings and horns bring you back when the vocals or lyrics start to veer too far into schmaltz. First side is excellent top to bottom, but does have a couple of bumps on side 2. The Windmills of Your Mind is kind of a dud, and In the Land of Make Believe is more shrill than soulful. Will definitely listen to again.
A timeless recording. Very soulful.
I don't want to hear it anymore Breakfast in bed Just one smile No easy way down
I have never listened to this album but I know all the songs. Soulful. Hard to rate it, because it’s not my style, but I respect it a lot.
Ok
Second from Dusty, and it's got the headlining "Son of a Preacher Man," a true classic song and arguably the biggest piece of her legacy. Love it as much as always. Not too much else grabbed me on side A, but side B has a nice stretch of tracks that I really dug, especially some using a softer, acoustic/flamenco style guitar. She sounds perfect in that setting. In fact, that's what made me remember that she did "The Look of Love," specifically that version from the "Music to Shag By" album that Alex and I had in our iTunes album. What a perfect voice for a song like that. Anyway, I think this one was great overall, even if it took a little to build up steam for me. I really like Dusty's voice. Favorite tracks: Son of a Preacher Man, Windmills of Your Mind, In the Land of Make Believe, I Can't Make It Alone. Album art: Just a portrait headshot of Dusty. The one on this website is different from what I got on Apple Music, but it's to the same effect. 4/5
Ja ovu zensku volim. Ovakva glazba ima toliko potencijala da bude dosadna. Al s njom nije nikad. Aranžman je tako detaljan i savršen.
Beautiful voice with some classic songs (Son of a Preacher Man)
Altogether it’s a little much, but separately it’s just sweet lovely music.
Beautiful voice with some familiar tunes that I hadn't really known well before
Very nice
A classic
Haven't listened to Dusty Springfield intentionally before. Have heard Son of a Preacher Man which is fantastic. This album took a few listens. Its really solid with a great range of tracks that are varied and contrast well with one another
really enjoyed this album, had only heard son of a preacher man before but ended up liking a lot of the songs, gonna listen to more of her discography
Never heard of her so I was excited to listen to her work for the first time and it was great. I love her voice, goes well with the Soul on this record, it's a vibe. I could totally see myself coming back to this album, if you like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, you'd like this album.
Son of a preacher man is a classic, love her vibe, all songs do sound kind of similar though
Good stuff, just gotta be in the right mood
Close to five. Really good
Mikið þykir mér vænt um þessa plötu. Rúllaði tvisvar í gegn í gær og mér leið stórkostlega allan tímann. Ekki feilspor hjá okkar konu á þessari plötu
Nice
Belle voix, tonalités tropicalismo dans certaines chansons
Nice and classic. Soaring vocals. Will revisit.
The windmills of your mind is beautiful and raw. Appreciated the album, would run back … probably on a silent reflective kind of night.
Very interesting style for being pop. Pay good really
Absolute classic Great listen, calm and comforting
Dusty bin putting out some great albums
What an album, what a voice. Any album that includes Son of Preacher Man is going to be a belter.
I wasn't expecting this to vibe so thoroughly.
I think this albums pretty good, the 3 or 4 big hitters on it are excellent- but towards the middle it gets a bit dry and the a few of the songs are just kinda ehh. Overall a fantastic sonic experience- the standouts for me are Just A Little Lovin, son of a Preacher Man, Don’t forget about me, and No Way Down.
Dusty can sing that's for sure and it's a very well produced and recorded album Tom Dowd is a genius and create magic on everything he produced. Son of Preacher man is just outstanding and I really like Windmills of Your Mind and I can't make it alone. However the rest of the album is way too 60's adult contemporary for me. Tough one to rank.
Pop-soul. Un megahit. Venga, un 4.
Dusty gives a beautiful performance with a great set of tracks. Just a little samey for my preference
