Reviews (page 4 of 8)
Aerosmith sound like a parody rock band of the 70s/80s. I think that's a sort of complement. Not a big fan but it was OK.
Pretty boring, nothing of massive interest here 🥱
Well, that was greatly disappointing. I guess I had different tastes back then. Of course, Back in the saddle and Last Child are great. But from there, the songs kept getting less interesting, more banal until Home Tonight hit rock bottom (not stressing rock!). I made it to the end!!! Yay, for me. I'm being generous: 3 boring mediocre stars. (Should be 2?)
When I was growing up in the 90's, I would occasionally hear an older acquaintance opine, "believe it or not, Aerosmith was pretty good back in the day." Obviously, I would not. I suppose this must be, at least in part, what they were referring to. And I guess they were right. About three stars worth of right anyway.
5/10 – Mediocre
I don't dislike Aerosmith, but I've never really been that into them either. They were always a little too kitschy for my tastes. Hard rock that you go to because your girlfriend was into it and you could tolerate. Also, Steven Tyler is a major perv.
Aerosmith sounds like they are sitting on the cusp of legit rock music and some more pop inspired radio friendly genre. In their later years they lean further toward the latter but with this album I can still hear the genuine desire to play loud rock music. It makes me wonder if they stuck out this sound more where this band would go. They seem like great songwriters, decent musicians and have a good ear for a hook. Ultimately this album doesn't really give me much more , I think I'll stick to Aerosmith as a greatest hits band.
This is one of the artists I knew I’d have to face eventually when I started the generator; I’ve always had an irrational dislike of Aerosmith and rather than figure out what it was I disliked, I’ve just ignored their existence for years. I did try to get into Aerosmith back when all I would listen to was classic rock. At the time, Led Zeppelin was my favourite band and Aerosmith kind of felt like a cheap knock off of them. Listening now, I realize they’re not so much a knock off Led Zeppelin, they’re more so classic rock’s next step towards hair metal. With that in mind, they kind of make more sense to me and I have the same thoughts as with any hair metal. Is it quality music? No, not really. Is it kind of fun? Yes, absolutely.
the album started off great, loved the starting songs but as it reached the end idk what happened but i guess it lost its charm, and personally i did not like it that much, but a few songs were super good
It's probably the third time I'm listening to this album in 10 years. I think last time was at least 5 years ago. Surprisingly, a much better album than I remembered! They sound great, the songwriting is really nice. Yeah, the sound is not my specific cup of tea, but you can't deny that the band really had a sound here. I used to think of the album as 32 minutes of mess leading to Home Tonight (my favorite Aerosmith song), but to be fair, there's much more quality to the record. 1, 2 , 6 , 4 are all bangers , in their own way. I'd give it a solid, high 3.
Of course the vocals are incredible but the lyrics are dull and execution is lacking. I like the instrumentation, but this lacks the glam of full blown hair metal and isn’t quite metal. Just messy middle
Some good stuff
More albums should be 9 tracks and 35 minutes in length. This feels solid rather than spectacular, but it inspired James Hetfield, amongst others, so I'm thankful for that.
It’s almost impressive how little an impression this made on me. It completely went in one ear and out the other. Standard hard rock/blues rock. Impressive riffs, I guess, and not annoying, but disappointingly bland. 2.5
Good listen
I guess if you had to put one Aerosmith album in here, this isn't a bad one to throw in.
Dirty white boy blues, not quite as magical as the stones but still pretty great, although a couple songs lagged.
it's 3.5
Probably the best Aerosmith record I've listened to, but it's still not what I'd consider to be great. "Last Child" is the standout track of the record and I really do rate that one. Otherwise, it's pretty middle of the road stuff. I'm sure it hit the spot a bit more in 1976, but doesn't do a great deal for me.
I’m not that into Aerosmith, but this is better than most of their albums.
rock album from an average rock band
Aerosmith.
Just kinda noisy
Nice old rock tunes from the first great times of the band.
2.8 Second Aerosmith this week, which is quite unlucky. It wasn't as good as the one earlier (toys in the attic), but at least it was better than the nonsense that was Pump. There wasn't really any stand out tracks here, all seemed quite bland 70s rock, which is unfortunate as I reckon there's some absolute gems in that genre we're missing that could have replaced this (I've not got long left and I still haven't seen Master of Reality, just saying...)
More like Aerosmith SUCKS. Nah I’m kidding. Aerosmith is a band I’ve never had strong feelings about positive or negative. This is fine. Definitely think a song like Rats in the Cellar is them at their best. The biggest problem with the album is the lyrics which are consistently ass. I’m not really sure how any grown adult can hear Get the Lead Out and be like, yeah this is quality music.
Poprawne 6/10
It's... Fine... It's just not my thing.
Good
It's pretty good, I just think Aerosmith lack a classic album
The last Aerosmith album on here I liked more than expected, this one less. Perfectly fine but no standouts for me.
23# Its definitely a rock album from the 80s rocks? well yeah, not so much though
Solid classic rock album, and though I’m not a huge Aerosmith fan I liked it more than I was expecting, especially the guitars.
Meh
Didn't like it, but realistically I can't put it any lower, looking at the other albums I've had to rate. Disappointed.
7/10
Aerosmith at their best is still mid overall. Favorite track: Home Tonight
Loved this record as a young pre-teen but now I see through its faults and cracks. Still a good record but not as great as I once thought it was. I loved Back in the Saddle and still do.
3.5/5 I'm not a big fan of Aerosmith but this seems like their best
Just not hitting the spot
I enjoyed this album more than I expected, never been a fan of Aerosmiths music. Just pretty tight all round, nothing exceptional but a very listenable album
This album certainly does rock! Screamy guitars and vocals let you know that this is Aerosmiths most rock-heavy work (if you couldn’t tell by the title of the album). And it does work… mostly! I was bopping along to the vast majority of songs. Now for the criticisms. It sounds like it was recorded with a police tape recorder, so the quality of sound isn’t amazing. The lyrics are not good at all - nothing too problematic, but just a bit shit. Overall, I was expecting a turd, but it was actually surprisingly chocolate shaped like a turd. I’ll take it. 5/10
Yeah it was ok. Felt it waned a little bit after the first 3 tracks which I really enjoyed. Didn't really enjoy it as much after that. Then again, not the biggest fan of Aerosmith in general so it exceeded expectations that's for sure.
Nolan, a second Aerosmith album has hit the list (in the last 3)
Oh. Aerosmith. Time to separate the art from the artist again, because Steven Tyler has a dumpster fire where his personality ought to be. Yep, good guitar, good drums, Steven fucking Tyler on vocals. Decent enough on average.
opens strong, grimy and surprisingly funky // cool-heavy riffs, tight grooves, immediate energy // first stretch feels loose and dangerous in a good way // starts to blur midway through though, same tones and tempos recycling // the back half of the record drags, loses the bite it promised at the start // honestly, the half-hour runtime is a mercy // solid moments, but not consistently gripping or interesting // def didnt convert me into an aerosmith fan // not their strongest record, more of a stamina test than revelation
nice!
Aerosmith are like the Bud light of hard rock. I’d never choose it for myself but I’ll take it if that’s all that’s available. This is one of their better records. It’s got some funky, almost Bowiesque grooves and fun guitar work. I had a tape of it as a kid that I think I bought at a gas station convenience store, which strikes me as appropriate.
Last child is a good one
Bon.
Same as all the other Aerosmith I’ve listened to, adequate but unsatisfying somehow!
It's fine. Nothing special but enjoyable nonetheless.
Rock de pai divorciado
Trip down memory lane
Perfectly alright. This kind of 80s rock is completely listenable, but doesn’t do a lot for me. Aerosmith is okay.
My 16 yr old self would have rated this higher but looking back, this isn’t as good as their earlier albums.
Has all the components of a great album but somehow doesn't move me. Might need to spend more time with it but until then it's 3*
I don't recall having come across a more consistent Aerosmith album. Each song works, and fits in well with the others. This is likely as good as Aerosmith is going to get for me.
A mostly forgettable Aerosmith album. It had a few songs I enjoyed and it definitely sounded like Aerosmith. Nothing crazy.
Rocks starts with the very best track on the album and doesn't really reach that level again. It's quite an influential album for sure, but not really one of the best or most interesting ones. I like a few of the songs but some are just a bit mediocre or forgettable to me. The musicianship here is pretty simple, so if there isn't a great riff to keep the track going it kind of loses my interest. Still fun to listen to.
Great rock band, led by a unique singer, and performer. Good music. One of the top rock groups ever.
The first few tracks, especially last child, gave me hope that this would be a killer album. Unfortunately the rest fell flat on its face
It rocks.
fine
This is a pretty fun album and Steven Tyler’s vocals are impressive as always. It rides the line between ZZ Top and Led Zep, meaning it has some of that 70s and 80s cheesiness, and some of the cooler rock elements.
Good rock. I think only familiar with one specific song, the rest were new to me and had good energy. Don't think it necessarily stood out as a record I needed to hear once, but it was an alright time
Love Aerosmith (first concert!), and this album was fun, but I don't think I'll be returning to it too often.
Eh it’s Aerosmith, not my favorite, but fine.
As with Madonna, I really hope that this isn't Aerosmith's only album on the list. I didn't hate this, but also didn't love it. I was only familiar with the first 2 tracks (Back in the Saddle and Last Child) and neither would crack my top 5 Aerosmith songs.
Aerosmith, pride of Boston, like the band, don’t love them. Great opening song, but that’s about it.
This album does indeed rock.
Competent but I expected more, this is a bit too conventional (or was imitated a lot) 3.2
Pretty boring actually!
It was fine
It’s another impressive 70s ‘Smith album. It rocks and it’s funky in all the right places. For me it always lacks a certain magic when compared to Toys in the Attic. If we had half stars, this would be 3.5 but since I can’t allow myself to score it as highly as TitA, it gets demoted to 3; I’m not gonna lose any sleep over it, but that is a little harsh.
I was feeling quite excited to listen to an album of Aerosmith songs that I havent heard a millions times. And this album is in fact a collection of Aerosmith songs that I havent heard before. But it sort of felt like I had. Here and there you can hear where other artists have been influenced by this album. Like Ian Dury (Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll) from Last Child. Or Tenacious D (Car Chase City) from Rats in the Cellar. Overall it was good, but didnt make feel like I wanted to listen to it a second time. (2.780)
This album from Aerosmith is pretty much rock/hard rock, with “Back in the Saddle” as the best track in my opinion. Toys In the Attic is a better record, probably their best album. There were a few singles from this one, but overall it gets three stars.
There’s some really decent songs on this. The opener, Back in the Saddle, really sets the tone and feels powerful and triumphant. Other songs like Combination standout. However, a lot of it does merge into one, with some tracks lacking any real definition or their own identity. It ends up making the album feel longer that it’s fairly brisk 35 min runtime.
I’m sure this was pretty cutting edge when it came out, but now it sounds like rock music for people who have heard rock music exists - people who’s favourite Beatles album is ‘Best of The Beatles’. Not bad, but dated and now sounds unimaginative.
Had much of what made later Aerosmith great, but peters out by the end.
Nada a comentar. Rock n Roll. 3*
3 or 4 out 5 pretty good
Not the best Aerosmith album but it was a nice listen. I wouldn't mind hearing any track in the background while I'm doing something else but it's not something I would listen to actively
Pretty much what I epxected
not bad, not too exciting. love the blues elements when they pop up
aerosmth is possibly one of my least favorite bands to come out of the "classic" rock area of the 70s and 80s. i have yet to be impressed with any of their albums thus far. their songs, for me, range from just straight up Bad to Just Okay in terms of quality. This album was mostly Just Okay.
Joar. Stabiles 70er hardrock Album… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3 Sterne, vor 40 Jahren wären es 5 gewesen!
I’ve never particularly been a big fan of Aerosmith, and I think this album helps that mindset persist. This set of hard rock tracks doesn’t particularly do much for me, aside from some neat guitar parts and classic vocals from Steven Tyler. There’s just not too much that I thought was very interesting, these songs are just okay to me. There’s not a whole lot, or anything, for me to really dislike. I wasn’t bored per se, just uninterested. The attitude that’s very much prevalent in these tracks doesn’t really do a lot for me either. Sadly, Aerosmith’s mediocrity continues to simmer for me. Maybe I can come back around, but for now they still cease to impress me in any great way. While I can see the appeal, as I said I just don’t find this as interesting or intriguing as it could’ve been.
A bit repetitive
Album 536 for me. There's been so much rock in that 536 that I was expecting to dismiss this quickly as an unnecessary inclusion. I'm also at a stage of life where I rarely seek out rock to listen to (or maybe it's because I hear it anyway, on here!) But it's a decent rock album, with some highlights. I think it's better than Pump, and as good as some of the Van Halen that I've been known to enjoy (it sounded a lot like them in places). I didn't love every track, and agree with another reviewer that the sound could be cleaner. But I liked the sleazy vibe, and Combination was particularly good.
Kind of all the same. Couldn’t get into it.
I was ready to rock, and rock I did!
The invention of riff based music.
Pretty good rock, but did not leave me much of an impression. I did not save anything in my playlist, but enjoyed it.
Fun Aerosmith record. I kind of did a double take when I read that this came out in 1976, after their self titled, after "Toys in the Attic", because to me this one feels a little less refined and a little more raw. It's a contrast compared to those albums, but I have to admit that I think that Aerosmith is at their best when they are doing classic rock in a big arena rock style, with larger than life tracks with amazingly memorable choruses. And this album is a little more down to earth than that.
Great guitar riffs! Certainly an experience. But after dozens of rock albums (and rock is not really my kind of genre)… sigh. But yeah I like the instrumentation a lot. Rocks.
Pretty eh.
Some solid songs and an overall good sound. I think I like more of their other more confident and grandiose albums.
Better than expected with some nice surprises. Favorite songs: Back In the Saddle, Last Child
Aerosmith always seemed like the black sheep of the rock ‘n’ roll family. It came in too late for the metal scene, it came in too late for the hard rock scene; it wasn’t yacht rock, and it was too hard for pop. In many ways, it feels like their best work came about 7 to 10 years too late or 20 years too early. Rock changed, but they were still serving up go-to old-school classic guitar rock at the time when the industry was changing. Back in the Saddle is still one of the best classic rock songs with an unmistakable intro. Last Child, track #2, had that dirty rock feel and is a fun song. All the songs on this album are pretty solid but songs like Rat in the Seller and Combination I could see getting caught behind Presence-era Led Zeppelin, and bands like Grand Funk Railroad, which were just nailing it. Songs like Nobody’s Fault almost had even a Black Sabbath style riff to it, which, with the emergence of punk, would’ve just disappeared. This is a good album, but I get how we got lost in the time in the scene.
Random thoughts: * First track is a banger! I kind of forget this as an awesome Aerosmith track. * This is a classic 70s rocker overall. * Did Aerosmith have a thing for Zeppelin (like all of us do)? "Get The Lead Out" and "Nobody's Fault" * This was better than some of the other 70s rock albums on 1001: Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy * Sometimes forget Aerosmith is from the 70s due to their huge influences in the 80s and 90s. * I could come get my rocks off to this one again.
512/1001
Solid 70s rock. I played my dad's LP, just randomly recalling that I had it. I think most people are familiar with the first song, but I know of Nobody's Fault because Testament covered it on The New Order.
This... rocks Ha But not all the way
I think albums that sound good but aren’t memorable at all are the worst to rank. Like yes. It’s good. I will forget about this so fast
Mostly just a one hit album, with maybe "Nobody's Fault" meriting inclusion as well. I don't think I would have included the whole album on this list. I would have included either PUMP or GET A GRIP instead. I thought the songs they wrote and produced in the late 80s and early 90s were far superior to most of their 70s work.
3.5 i dont usually listen to music like this but its very cool
Light 3
The more I listen to Aerosmith, the more I feel like so many songs sound the same. It’s lost some magic for me.
Standard “classic” rock album for someone in my generation. Fine, listenable, but didn’t blow me away. Hadn’t heard Last Child in awhile, so that was nice.
Just barely not a 4
Wasn’t terrible!
That's a real rock, 3.5+
It starts strong with two bangers but then peters out
Eh. Little bit harder than the 2000s stuff, but still not great.
Zuhause, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Ganz okay.
Surprisingly good and bears repeat listening with songs that worm there way to the memory. Still not my favourite kind of thing to come back to, but beats the far more revealed Back to Black for my money.
In some respects this wasn’t as bad as I feared but I had VERY low expectations for it. Was all a bit naff though. It’s aged poorly and although it didn’t have the cheese of some of their later works, does very little for me.
Look I love Steven Tyler's voice, Perry's guitar, and whoever the bass guy is. Love the energy, I bet they put on a banger of a live show. But the lyrics are really boring, which was kinda shocking.
Favorite tracks: Back In the Saddle, Sick As A Dog
We need a scientific study of this album. It’s only 35 minute long, but every one of the 9 songs feels like it lasts 5 whole minutes. The math just doesn’t math and I need answers. If you like guitar rock and/or Steven Tyler's voice, you'll enjoy this one.
Not my style but I do like a couple of their songs. 2.5
Ive always had a soft spot for Aerosmith. Not my favourite album but pretty decent.
I find a lot of Aerosmith pre-MTV to be pretty average at best. This album is a good example
“I never really understood what was so great about Aerosmith until now”, is not something I said after this album. Ok at best.
You know what? It's a solid hard rock album. But not one of the alltime greats.
I'm not a fan of Aerosmith, but this album was solid.
Pretty good riffs and decent sound overall.
This was much better than I expected. I am very much not an Aerosmith fan although I do give them huge props for the Run D.M.C. collab that was transformational. But this album was solid beginning to end. Perry's high voice didn't grate on my nerves nearly as much as typical and the music beneath was rocking.
3- Stars (7/15)
Enjoyable classic rock album - wasn't familiar with this album over Aerosmiths later work. Strong opener.
ok?
Fun to hear young Aerosmith. Pretty funky!
Aerosmith Rocks, bit they are definitely not deep lyricists. Enjoyed this as a throwback, but not their best work. 3⭐️
3?
macht gute Laune
Probably the best aerosmith I've heard.
Fun record
I've never been the biggest fan of Aerosmith. In fact I've always thought of them as being a tad bit overrated. This was the first time I listened to a full album of theirs. It is a very solid piece of rock and roll but doesn't do much to sway my overall perception of the band. I might give it a 3.5/5 if I could, but for the sake of this experience it gets a 3/5. Solid but not good enough to push into 4/5 territory.
Classic Aerosmith was pretty cool. Pre hair metal and quite funky
Starts out with a few bangers. Fizzled out by the halfway point for me, though. I liked this more than Pump. 👍Back In the Saddle, Last Child
This one didn’t make much of an impression on me tbh. I enjoyed it while it was playing and then afterwards couldn’t remember much about listening to it. Really struggling to have an opinion on it, which is odd cos there’s nothing I object to when listening? Maybe it’s just the headspace I was in. My one real thought is that Home Tonight works really well as the end of the album. Fav: Sick As A Dog Least fav: Get The Lead Out
Bit too loud for me and lots of the songs sounded the same. Didn't hate it but didn't love it. Favourite song: Combination Least: Back in the saddle
The riffs can be really interesting, even if the lyrics are still pretty preteen boy edginess. But it just has a vibe of genericness. It is 'rock music', nothing more and nothing less.
Not old enough to actually like dadrock
A solid output from the 70s Aerosmith growing their brand and classic sound.
Some interesting licks here and there. Joe Perry has such a good way of making interesting riffs. Pretty straight forward and cool rock n roll. Sick as a Dog was actually pretty interesting and hadn't heard that before. Fine album
Wannabe Led Zeppelin but not all bad. Had its ups and downs.
No hits on, but the album rocks solid from start to finish. Weak three stars. favourite: "Rats In The Cellar" 2,5
Classic
One of their best.
A bit too raw for me
Solid 70s hard rock. They get called the American Zeppelin and this album is a good example of why... however I would much rather listen to any Zeppelin album. Solid guitar work, vocals and songs, just nothing too special in my opinion.
pretty OK.. Not really my jam, but probably pretty exciting in 1976
This album just wasn't really for me. Its the standard classic rock you heard on the radio growing up and had on in the background. Perfectly fine but not memorable.
Some interesting moments on this one. Occasionally occupies the same sonic space as Alice Cooper. Maybe also spends a brief minute at the crossroads of punk and rock....I might be imagining that one. Like MC5 or something. Better than the later era smooth brained, ballad heavy content.
After the opening track “Back in the Saddle,” this album drops off into entirely boring ’70s rock. Nothing else comes close to matching the energy of the intro.
-not as horrible as i thought it was going to be tbh. def prefer something like this to AC/DC or Guns N’ Roses -the kind of thing i can enjoy listening to once for its hype moments and aura but wouldn’t just go back to unprompted. decent 3 -Favorites are Last Child and Get The Lead Out
Pretty solid listen, nothing revolutionary sounding but I enjoyed it
Rocks is much better than my last outing with Aerosmith. Prior to this, I had gotten pump, which I thought had aged terribly. The glammy, sexed up Aerosmith, paired with glossy '80s production just doesn't do it for me. Here, Aerosmith's tendencies are instead paired with a more straightforward, gritty type of '70s rock production. The performances also feel much better here. These two aspects give these songs some room to breathe, and a lot of them are honestly pretty good. I get more out of Steven Tyler screaming his brains out on Back In The Saddle than I do from Pump as a complete project. Back In The Saddle is also driven by a great bassline and a propulsive stomp, it's a great rock song. The funky Last Child is also a great listen. Although, even outside of the singles, there's a lot of good here. I like Rats In The Cellar, Combination, Nobody's Fault, and Get The Lead Out a lot. And the remaining songs still have redeeming qualities. I will say that I'm still not particularly fond of Aerosmith's style of rock music, but I don't think I can really ask more of an Aerosmith album than what is given on Rocks. And besides, I did enjoy it. This is a hell of a redemption arc in my mind, I fucking hated Pump. I'm curious if this is the peak or if other Aerosmith albums surpass rocks, but in the meantime, I'm content with what I am given here.
Day 72 First listen- Has some really nice riffs and is great to rock out and headbang to. (3/5)
This is fine. Nothing outstanding or remarkable, but it's also not horrible. A mediocre review for a mediocre album.
Surprisingly uninvolving. These mid-70s rock albums are just not grabbing me in the way I expected. I mean, it's okay: the playing is accomplished but I struggle to get into what they're singing about.
It's good normal rock from that time, a bit repetetive for my taste but it has some good music
Better then scorched but i will not become a fan of them.
I went through a classic rock phase as a tween, but never really listened to Aerosmith. This album is exactly what I expected it would be though. It's a totally fine album, but nothing to write home about imo. My favourite song is Home Tonight - I love me a rock ballad. 6.5/10.
M'n derde keer Aerosmith in deze lijst. Slikken zullen we.
When you open your album with a track called "Back in the Saddle," you really need to deliver a solid rock album. In this case, the album just sort of diminishes from the first track on. There are a few decent songs in the first half of the album, but this album missed the mark for me.
It's alright, but it's nowhere near their best in my opinion. There's something a bit disjointed and murky with the songs. I'm finding it hard to get into the actual groove of them. They're all sitting at a level, and there's nothing elevating them beyond that - be it a killer hook or chorus, or something a bit brighter or more engaging.
Never was a big Aerosmith fan, with this kind of proto-hair metal, arena rock generally being hit and miss for me (Along with hair metal in general, but for example, I like Def Leppard, but Van Halen I wasn't big on either). That said, listening to this, it's pretty solid, but mostly it doesn't change my opinion of Aerosmith. The hits are generally good (Back in the Saddle, which is on this record, Dream On, Train Kept A' Rollin, Sweet Emotion, etc.), but I'm not really enamored with this record.
I got excited with Back in the Saddle, but every song after felt like falling out of the saddle and awkwardly trying to climb back up mid-stride. Still better than the last Aerosmith album we had.
decent
C'était sympa 7/10
solid rock album
3.5/5 - not listened to this in a while so was nice to revisit it.
I appear to have wound up in the hard rock corner of this list lately. That, and hip-hop. I’m apathetic to hard rock and antagonistic towards hip-hop, so I guess it’s good to be getting these albums outta the way sooner rather than later. Never listened to Aerosmith, but I’m more than familiar with their name. Great title for a band. Anyways, onto the music. It’s more or less what I was expecting, yet it succeeds at being some better-than-average fun. The short runtime also left me coming away with a positive impression. Say what I will about hard rock, I’ve never felt like one of these albums have overstayed their welcome, which is one of the best things a piece of music can be in my eyes After the relatively conventional “Back in the Saddle”, I was surprised to have been hit with “Last Child”. Good song. The instrumental is a lot bouncier and punchier than the usual hard rock affair. “Combination” is another good track. The guitarwork is solid, though it's the vocal melody and the way the singers harmonise with one another that gets me. “Get the Lead Out” is a nice late-album track. The guitar hook on that song is pretty sick, and so is the solo. “Home Tonight” is a good closer and quite possibly the best song on the album. It has the best vocal performance and a very gratifying, anthemic sound. At this point I’d normally check the book to see why this is in here, though I think I’ll give it a rest this time. I’ve heard enough about Aerosmith to know that they’re one of the best-selling music artists of all time. I’m also confident I’ve heard of this album before, so I like to think I have it on good authority that this is a good pick for the list.
their first albums sound like they were in a cave. Bad studio work.
Very nice
Good enough, don't really like this style of music tho Will I listen to again: 3%
back in the saddle has always been annoying and i'm no aerosmith fan but they're so generically "ok" that this album has to be a 3
pretty good
I don’t mind a bit of Aerosmith but I didn’t recognise anything from this one. I don’t think it’s their best tbh
"Last Child" is a fantastic track, and "Back in the Saddle" is pretty good too. The rest of the album is OK but not great. So that's like a high 3 for me.
Not as bad as their later stuff, but still not great. 3 stars, but a low 3.
Unmistakably better than the tongue-in-cheek, 12 year old humor that made up 'Pump,' the only other album by these guys we've had so far on the list. Good funk licks on 'Last Child,' weaker metal vibes on several tracks, and just straight rock on others. It felt like there were pieces of a great album in here, but don't think anything really rose to truly great. At least it was short.
Good, but not my favorite Aerosmith album.
This is the album that AI would come up with if you gave it every 70s rock album. This is the absolute mean of all rock music from this period, even down to the folksy harmonica solo. It’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s average in every way possible.
Never heard much from Aerosmith apart from a couple of their hit songs that were generic but kinds ok. Listening to a whole album of this was a tough job but it was worth it to get to the last track (the only one I liked). Thus 3 stars
Banger
It’s fine
Very chill 😎 Album rating: ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Aerosmith Rocks is a decent album that showcases the band’s raw energy and gritty rock sound. Tracks like “Back in the Saddle” and “Last Child” definitely stand out, delivering that classic Aerosmith swagger. However, the album as a whole doesn’t quite maintain the same level of impact throughout. While it’s a solid listen for fans of the band, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of some of their other releases. Good, but not great.
Aerosmith-- Good not great-- Back in the saddle is a banger
Their fourth album. Rock / Hard Rock. A solid rock album. Sexy lyrics, good vocals. They borrow a lot from the Stones and Led Zeppelin. An influential album that probably helped bring along 80s Hair Metal and bands like Van Halen and Moltey Crew. It's a good album. The band are tight.
Alright, pretty nice I guess. Not that brilliant. 3 stars
I miss liking music like this
Listening to an old album that I already have - nothing is standing out - sound is ok 3/5 #musicsky #albumsky #musicchallenge
Meh
Mediocre Hard Rock featuring raw energy, great guitar riffs, and some screamo vocals.
mid
Surprisingly enjoyed the album. Interesting sound, catchy riffs, good vocals
Classic, boneless rock-and-roll. Decent
it's solid rock
WOW Aerosmith is far superior to the ACDC album I've listened to through 1001, the vocals are much less grating. I don't see a lot of value in this album other than it's early release date, I guess 3? Could be 2.
This was good. Just like competently made hard rock. I don't know that anything here is particularly notable (and this seems like a weird inclusion for Aerosmith, but I guess maybe their bigger releases are here too). I tried looking up the lyrics and most of them look pretty empty. I think the prevalence of western motifs here is interesting. No further comment on it though. Still. Good, competent guitar and vocals. Hard to see much to complain about.
Good 70’s rock.
Many people see Aerosmith as having different phases, and this album represents the “before they got clean” stage. Fans often prefer this era because the band had a rawer, grittier rock sound, while the later years saw them become more polished and commercialized, especially with their MTV hits in the ’80s. I also think MTV had a big part in this, bringing more glamour and glitz to rock music, which changed how bands presented themselves. Rocks offers a glimpse into a different time before all of that, when the music had a more unrefined and genuine quality, showing a time before rock became more commercialized and polished.
Aerosmith has always been take it or leave it for me. I like some and don’t particularly like others. This is right in the middle.
Some good stuff, but with the exception of a few great songs nothing really stood out to me.
You can't really go wrong with Aerosmith, but this isn't their best.
It's good classic rock, but 80% of this album is a filler. Weak 3.
solid enough but did we really need multiple Aerosmith albums on this list?? idk probably not
Energetic but short and questionable lyrics
Helt okej, kanske inte min genre men 3 stjärnor
I only knew one song but I thought the album was pretty good
Let me start by saying that I generally do not like Aerosmith. Maybe my opinion is skewed from only hearing them way later than this era, but I find them pretentious and douchey rock dudes who made really mid music, if not just plain bad music. Whatever the reason, it includes a strong dislike of Steven Tyler. I find him annoying and he usually ruins any chance of me liking their music. Even so, I actually enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected. It was pretty simple, straightforward rock for the most part. Distorted guitars with catchy licks, strong rhythms, and vocals that had some bite to them. A couple songs gave me Motley Crue vibes with how they punched and bit (and I'm sure MC got some inspiration from this album). I think it's biggest strength was that no one element overpowered the others, but everything came together well on most of the tracks. It was probably that lack of pretension that did it for me; instead of it being all Aerosmith-y, it just rocked out. It did get weaker in the second half, where it seemed like Tyler's vocals became more of a star instead of the whole ensemble feel for the earlier tracks. Get the Lead Out especially reminded me of the Aerosmith songs that cause me to not like them; just a lame music number making me have to focus on Tyler's vocals. The album ended strongly with Home Tonight, though. I was not looking forward to this one when I saw it pop up, but I was pleasantly surprised. While it's not great, it's definitely good. Overall: 3.5/5
Idk its ok, definitely better than some things you could compare to this at the time like Van Halen or something, it just feels less arrogant. Some of the guitar/beats are good, just feels like there's not a lot there. Not really too much else to say. Favourite song: rats in the cellar, also maybe a few more. Overall around 5/10
I don't like this band primarily because of Steven Tyler isms. I realize, however, that this album and Toys in the Attic mark a high point for Aerosmith and I have a mild inkling for the deeper cuts. I was surprised how heavy and dark this album became in spots.
this was fine. i don't have a lot to say about it. extremely fine.
decent little rock album. aerosmith has some massive tunes (as they should over their decades-long career) but they really parcel them out to one or two each album. they're so much more a singles band than an album band to me. to no one's surprise, rocks frontloads the bangers and falls off hard after that. each track and the album as a whole gets less interesting as time ticks by. at least toys in the attic spaced them out a bit. ah well, c'est la vie. favorites: back in the saddle, last child, rats in the cellar
How much Aerosmith do we need on this list?!? This isn't bad, but it isn't great either. It's just 70's rock. If you're into that, well you'll probably like it.
I was concerned - Back in the Saddle and Last Child are decent songs, then I hadn't heard of any of the other songs. Altogether, a pretty solid album. I don't really like Aerosmith, but this one was worth listening to. 3/5
I was not offended but I didn’t hate it
meh
I wanted to give it 4 stars because it genuinely has great music, but by the fourth song I was a bit bored. It was catchy tho
While I like Aerosmith, Tyler's voice and the good riffs, I didn't find this one as loveable or enjoyable as other albums.
Tuhti rokkilevy muttei mikään ihmeellinen. Avauskappale sopi hyvin myös polkupyörän satulassa matkustamiseen! 3/5
Jotenkin ei itellä Aerosmith oo koskaan kovinkaan paljon kutitellut. tämäkin levy ihan hyvä mutta 2-3 akselille jää.
Straightforward rock and roll. Nothing really sticks in my head after a few listens. But it settled in nicely in the background.
Definitely some whispers of hair metal in this one.. it was alright
This was way better than I expected. But my expectations were low. So low. This sounded like Q95. This was like listening to the radio in the car with dad. Every song sounded like I was in the car going to Crawfordsville with the radio on. Hell, I didn’t even know “Back in the Saddle” was an Aerosmith song.
Bueno.
A good tune....
Too many areosmith albums on this list for sure. But to be fair, this is the best one I've heard. Didn't know any songs off this one before hand, and I think that probably makes it even better. The closer is great
Does what it says on the tin
Definitely better than anything they released Pump on, but I'm just not an Aerosmith fan. Toys in the Attic clears.
aeromid
Aerosmith always delivers good, uplifting rock with a hint of sleaze.
Not a huge fan of this genre enjoyed this more with each listen. Haha and actually the more I listened the more references I kept hearing. G&R, AC/DC, KISS, Sabbath, T.Rex, Rod Stewart. Not a bad thing.
For me, Aerosmith is the epitome of hard rock. However, I didn't realize how long the guys have been in the business. I didn't know the album yet. But there was nothing on it that really excited me either. Solid rock, nothing more, nothing less. 3/5
I find it interesting to see what the album generator gives you on milestone days. I got Scum by Napalm Death on my wedding day, so that was a fail. But, yesterday was my birthday, and I got Rocks. Back in the Saddle Again is not a bad song to blare first thing in the morning on your birthday. This album does Rock with a capital R. We get no prolonged soft moment of reflection. It’s just, keep rocking and don’t stop. I respect that. I’ve heard Rocks before, but always choose Toys. I think my unfamiliarity with the songs after the first track contributed to this blowing past me. I’ll put this on again later, and perhaps my opinion will change. For now, I’ll say it’s a solid rock album without many standouts after Back in the Saddle.
Fun hard rock album....influential to someone maybe? Was good.
just another hard rock album borrringngggggg
Solid album
certainly sounds like aerosmith. not doing much for me 2.5
It's a fine record. It's just middling at best. I have listened to way worse on this list, but that being said it doesn't really rise to a must listen. Definitely wouldn't search it out for my collection.
I don’t mind Aerosmith but I wasn’t in the right frame of mind for it unfortunately
Less annoying than I expected. 3.5 rounded down. Stand-out: Back in the Saddle
Decent 70s rock.
Similar to the other Aerosmith album, it doesn't excite me that much, technically very good musicians and the vocals are good but lyrically not great and I just find the songs blend together, nothing stood out. Middle of the road rock album for me.
Toys in the Attic was better. Still a good album in its own right.
2.9
Aerosmith always has some banger hits, but is usually mediocre outside of those. The "hits" on this one were not all that great so it didn't have much to fall back on
Well, I liked this album, but didn’t love it…it just didn’t grab me. I definitely prefer Toys in the Attic to this one. Maybe over time it would grow on me, but for now it’s a three.
Like ordering a lone slab of meat for dinner, no seasoning safe a modest pinch of salt. It does the job and it sure knows to fill an empty stomach, but everyone else at the restaurant will be glad to notice that at least they're not the dullest person in the room.
60 jarige kale man core
The Good: No question about what kind of music this album is about The Bad: Rock turns to funky pop almost… The Ugly: ST screamin’ “Bahhkkk” I gave Toys in the Attic 4*… this is not a good follow up album… in my opinion. As a matter of fact, I decided to see which albums were released in 1976, and holy moly, that was one serious year in music! I did enjoy the listening experience for this album, it is rock, and has some funk to it, and thankfully the album progresses well after the opening track, which was annoying me due to the Bahhhhkkkk screachin’ constantly. So, 3 1/2* downgraded, as this album does not come near to Toys...
Pretty run-of-the-mill classic rock but when it bangs and goes hard, it's still very enjoyable to hear!
Good album but not every song was great. But all are good.
Better than the Toys in the attic one that i also had to rate, still doesn’t go beyond stadium rock…. It’s not something where I would go “Oh i’m in the mood for some Aerosmith” you know?
A side is good and the B side is totally forgettable. Remind me whose album this is...Oh, yes, it by Aeros-meh-th.
A lot harder than I thought it would be. Definitely had more metal elements that I would've expected more from an album a few years later. Pretty good.
Aerosmith seit wenigstens, was ih ihrem album drin isch: Rocks. Also Stei. Viel Stei. Wo mer uf em musikalische pfad immer wider in wäg gleit werdet. Zum glück also hend Aerosmith ganz okee Stei mit dene mer au biz was ahfange chan. Und s potential für all Stei Fanatiker*inne da usse gsehni sehr wohl. Aber die 248. meist glosti Band uf Spotify?? Das überascht jetzt doch biz. 2 Tigeraug und min Lieblingsbackstei für d Aeroschmieds
das rock album namens rocks isch so rockig, dass es mer fast de rock lüpft scho verrockt, wenn mer sich's überleid also s'hed mer sicher eis inegrockt aber wüki grockt heds nöd solidi rockigi rock hits, aber nöd so fescht dasi d'richtig vo mine musigvorliebe rockartig würd ändere rock rock rock
A tale as old as time. Spend $64m on drugs, rock as hard as fuck and record it on an album to cockblock Slash.
A surprisingly groovy rock album from Aerosmith, songs are a lot of fun and well performed if you ignore the lyrics which are pretty bad. Not the showiest performances like those found on other Aerosmith albums but an enjoyable 35 minute listen. 3.5/5
Aerosmith are such an okay band, I have no idea why they’re so well-known. Whenever I hear one of their songs, I’m not really invested in it, but I’m not going to ask for someone to turn it off, either.
This is a classic 70's rock album; hard, fast and fun. What it lacks in substance, it makes up in vibes alone, it's just a great ride from start to finish. It features hard guitar, traditional thunderous drumming, glam rock vocals - what more do you want? It's undeniably Aerosmith; and album that sounds like big hair, tight leather trousers and cheap beer. It transports you back to somewhere on the road in 1976. There isn't much more to say, really. It's not perfect but nor does it have to be. Though I will say, as much as I remember having fun listening to it, I don't remember any of the songs so...
While not my favorite Aerosmith album, it's still pretty solid. It's a little plain compared to their other works. Includes the classic "back in the saddle."
Nice bit of 80s rock.
It’s ok
Sharp and definitely well-made, but kind of uninspiring with no great songs (but some good guitar riffs). I have always found Aerosmith overrated, so maybe I came in with a bias, but I’ve heard some hype for this album and was ready to have my opinion changed. Sadly, it wasn’t. Best song: Sick as a Dog
I’m surprised it doesn’t wear as well over the years. It seemed kind of weak to me compared to some of their earlier stuff, even though I know it was a big success.
I love Aerosmith (well, the 70's Aerosmith) but this album doesn't hold a candle to Toys in the Attic. Didn't hate it but won't listen again.
It was alright
Aerosmith and (solo) Morrissey are the two acts that feel most over represented on this list As ever, this is perfectly serviceable rock but not something that feels at all essential
Right after this album finished, psychic shuffle on Spotify played Sweet Emotion. Honestly I think that’s the only Aerosmith song I like. Clearly there’s a lot to be said for this album because it’s such a staple in the rock genre but I don’t have any words for it. I didn’t hate this. It’s a cool album cover and I always liked the band name.
I will admit I enjoyed this one more than Toys In The Attic. I think the vocals on Back In The Saddle are entertaining and Last Child is pretty funky. Nobody’s Fault is pretty decent too. I could forget the rest of it though. Having three songs I like boosts it slightly into the range of a three, but this is basically a 2.5.
Idk, I like elements of this but as a whole it becomes quite underwhelming after a while. Despite Tyler et al’s posturing this lacks a certain swagger for me
Starts strong but not that great. I prefer Toys in the Attic
Decent
Aerosmith. They rock indeed. One album as good as the others.
I’m not a huge fan of 80s Hair Metal (shhh, don’t tell my metalhead pals!) but I was pleasantly surprised by this 1976 album from Aerosmith. As with Toys in the Attic it’s a solid slice of 70s hard rock with some enjoyably funky bass lines, especially on the opening track Back in the Saddle. The lyrics haven’t aged all that well - Sick as a Dog is about throwing up in the loo and you don’t have to think too hard about what Lick and a Promise is referring to
I could probably copy/paste my latest Def Leppard review and that would work well too here. Maybe better than Def Leppard though, with less of the 80s nonesense.
Just a bland rock album
Need to give it another try.
I like Aerosmith. I don’t LOVE Aerosmith. I would like to give it 3.5 stars. Because I think it deserves more than 3 stars. But 4 stars seems to be pushing it.
Not their best work eh
