Reviews (page 2 of 8)

Like a stoner comedy or slasher flick, it's unapologetically what it is. and what it is fuckin rocks 🤘

An album defining the sound of The 80s Teen American Male. Great songs overplayed.

Liked it. Good to run to. 80s feel of The Lost Boys.

My love for Def Leppard's big, bold 80s rock bombast comes from my Pops, who passed down both an appreciation for the band and the lesson that you should always proudly own your pleasures without guilt.

Favourite tracks - Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop), Photograph, Billy’s Got a Gun

Came on rocking hard and carried that all the way through.

While 'Pyromania' still feels like it’s missing a final polish, Def Leppard were clearly on the right track, delivering an ambitious and powerful album. It produced four instantly recognizable singles, highlighted by the standout “Photograph,” with “Foolin’” a close second. The band would later take the sound and momentum of “Photograph” and expand it across their 1987 release, Hysteria. Both Pyromania (1983) and Hysteria (1987) strike a similar balance of heaviness and melody, earning each a well-deserved place on 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

While not as polished and all-encompassing as Hysteria, this album more than holds its own. The raw and visceral rock sound here is extremely satisfying. Without the benefit of hindsight, you'd think this was their magnum opus and couldn't be eclipsed. They're running on all cylinders and you can hear some of the foundational chord progressions and harmonies that would lead them into that even bigger album 4 years later.

I liked rock rock till u drop the most and photograph

My prayers for more 80's rock have been answered! Said it before, I'll say it again - my love of Def Leppard begins and ends with Pyromania. "Rock of Ages". Summer of '83. Fuckin A. Add these guys to the list of bands whose biggest album was not their best. Gunter glieben glauchen globen! 5

Gunter glieben glauchen globen!

Classic 80's power rock... fun!

Peak Hair Metal. Rock on!!!

This album is hitting me in the right place today. I've heard of it but never listened before and it's loaded with bangers. I can't judge this harshly because I don't think this album pretended to be or aspired to be anything more than just fun rock and it was indeed that. There's really not a duff track and this album had me rockin' in a genre that's generally not my thing. I can't think of a reason to ding it.

One of the greatest rock albums of all time!

Go figure. This is a great album. I'd say for the genre it's a 5. for my taste it's a 4.5

These guys were on fire!

Huge fan Great use of the ‘80s rock sound Reminded me of Aerosmith so it was already really good imo

What has seven arms and sucks dick?

Pyromania is a standout album from '80s rock. "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages" were core songs for 14-year-old me. Def Leppard's sound was hard enough for me to "rock out," yet approachable for all my friends. Their signature blend of hard rock with catchy hooks and polished production was blasting out of the Alpine once I got my license, cruising the parking lots (struggling) to be cool. This might just be the anthem album of the time.

Pyromania- What a great album! It brought me great memories. About the album itself, all of the songs in this album are really great. Three electric guitars, bassist, a fantastic drummer, and a great singer...This is Def Leppard. I have read some comments and for those who hate this band, that's too bad. I enjoy listening to them. 100/100!

One of the original albums I listened to from Def Lep. A great album from start to finish. Photograph, Too Late for Love, Foolin', Rock of Ages....this album has some of the greatest early hits.

Fuck yeah 🔥 I really enjoyed this album! I see there's a lot of bad reviews but I don't get why in all honesty. Songs were catchy, guitar was good. What's not to like! I'd never heard Rock of Ages, so I was really surprised when I heard what I thought was Pretty Fly For A White Guy start lmao 5 ⭐️

Gepflegter Hardrock

Classic!!

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Ahpa1o/ I’m burning burning I’ve got the fever I know for sure There ain’t no cure

I really liked this one I thought it was really cool and I knew one of the songs. So yeah this is my favourite so far.

Nulla da dire, potenti e cool

Def Leppard at its finest. Suck a great hair band. Vocals and instruments are on point. Love 80's bands! Tons of memories with this album.

Such a great album. Big fan of Def Leppard. This album has some of my absolute favorites on it.

Finally! An album I can give 5 stars before even hitting play – one of my all-time faves. Those riffs never get old. Know what? I’m actually gonna give it another listen now!

Day617 - pyromania is one of great albums from 1983 in a year full of all time greats, it sold over ten million copies and made def leppard huge. 2019 rock and roll hall of fame inductees

Great album from my college years. Classic of that era

This is one of their best albums, LOVE IT

Awesome

One of the greatest records ever made. Mutt Lange really got the best of this band who came to the table with a great batch of songs. The right sound at the right time.

One of the most well-rounded and consistent arena rock albums. It's amazing that slowing to a more deliberate tempo makes such a difference, but the more methodical approach let's you marinate in every song for just long enough to enjoy and move onto the next. Bonus points for some really well-used effects in production as well. All-around great listen. Top tracks: Photograph, Die Hard The Hunter, Rock Of Ages, Comin' Under Fire

I understand some of the distaste that comes with hair bands. Def Leppard is S-tier in this category though🤟

Fun album with some big hits like Photograph, Foolin', and my favorite Rock of Ages. This really feels like an 80s music time piece. I liked this one more than Hysteria even though it has their biggest song on it (Pour some sugar on me). Def Leppard has this unique version glam rock sound that is just so clean. They have some sick guitar solos, catchy choruses, and good energy.

This is one for my dad. OK, I'm gonna keep this review real short, sweet n' simple, 'coz, frankly, I don't have a whole lot I wanna say about this. How much **could** you say about this album, honestly? It's Def Leppard's PYROMANIA, one of the earliest slices of glam metal cheese — and, oh, such a good slice it is. Like, I hardly have any complaints. It's a whole 45 minutes of pop metal goodness, with big, shout-along choruses and everything. I could straight listen to "Photograph" ten times in a row, no foolin'. I mean, these songs just kick so much fuckin' ass, it's crazy. Nothing but love to all the members and Mutt Lange, my goodness. I suppose my only real knock against the album is that it **is** early glam metal, and clearly not as refined as something like, say, Bon Jovi's SLIPPERY WHEN WET would be. But that's hardly this album's fault, right? It's not its fault other albums would come along and build on the foundation it laid down, up to and including Def Leppard themselves with the monster follow-up HYSTERIA. I could go on and wax poetic and babble on and on about this album — believe me, I could. It's not uncommon for my reviews to exceed 1k words (in fact, my SLIPPERY WHEN WET one was under 200 words why). But, in total, all I wanna say is this, to the people who're giving this thing flat 1's: I'm not asking you to not think. Of course, be critical of the art and such you take in. Sometimes, though, it's perfectly to just lean back and go along with an album that fuckin' rips. And this one sure as shit does. Who cares if it's not "real metal?" "Foolin'" comes in and I'm too busy rockin' to notice. Just light a damn fire, play it fuckin' LOUD and have fun with it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got eight more listens of "Photograph" to dance through.

Quintessential hair metal, right here. Soild 5 Stars.

I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. I’m a sucker for 80s glam metal / rock stuff, and this is no exception, but I think my general unfamiliarity with Def Leppard led to a bit of a curve here. I thought the album loaded itself really nicely through the pacing of the first 3 tracks, and then had a slow descent downward from Track 4 onward, with the overall energy of each track just doing less and less for me the more it went on. There’s no bad tracks here, but let’s just say I felt totally burnt out by “Action! Not Words” – a fun track to listen to, sure, but one that just totally bounced off of me for no reason other than “man, this just feels plain to me now”. Thankfully, “Billy’s Got a Gun” is a captivating enough closer that I feel safe bumping this up to a 5, though it was probably always going to get the bump regardless. I don’t really have that much to say about the intricacies of this thing – the instrumentation is good, though I do wish the drums had a little more to do throughout this thing. The vocals are great, save for a few songs where Joe Elliott feels a bit monotone even in his screamier moments (once again, looking at “Action! Not Words”). Lyrically, it’s exactly what you’d expect; this never gets to the same level as some of the stuff on an album like “Slippery When Wet”, though it doesn’t matter that much. “Photograph” is the highlight here, as well as the moody tones of “Billy’s Got a Gun”, but they’re all written well enough that they pass the “nothing egregiously bad” test of lyricism. Overall, one’s enjoyment of this album will be entirely based on how much you like ‘80s soft glam rock with a pop lean, and it’s a style I’m generally a sucker for. This is not quite as good as its contemporaries in terms of a full album experience, but it still stands up decently well, with my only real complaint being “it just kind of sounds the same after too long”. We’ve had other albums in this space that kept the energy all up the way through, at a blazing breakneck pace, and this one just didn’t keep it there for as long as it could have. Regardless, I like it enough to bump it up to a 5, though I do hope they figured out their pacing issues for “Hysteria”, whenever we get that one.

Beautiful sonically

I decided this was five stars as soon as I heard the first note. I've never been into Def Leppard, but I'm feeling nostalgic today and this is hitting the spot. The only thing I don't like about this is that I wasn't at their show at the Summit in 1987. Can you imagine the backstage debauchery?

This album is absolute garbage with no redeeming artistic or cultural value whatsoever. I love it so fucking much.

10/10. Old school rock, very easy to listen to.

Pretty good! Nothing quite stood out to me, but the instrumentals and vocal work were good throughout. 'Photograph' was my top song from this album.

A long-time favourite of mine, so no notes necessary.

Excellent rock album, its dated in a nostalgic way, brilliant

This album is an absolute banger. I'm not surprised that reviews are hating on it for various reasons, but I guess I expected it to be a little more appreciated than it is. Def Leppard just did a lot to make 80s metal accessible and, well, glamorous. It's fun, and it's catchy. The vocals are soaring. The instruments are so full and dramatic on every song. It doesn't have to be overly heady or intellectual to be valuable. It can just be fun. And "Pyromania" is that. Additionally, this album was a big step for Def Leppard into glam metal/hair metal royalty; this album fully put them on that path and was the precursor to the absolute excellence that is "Hysteria". Like it or not, that album took the world by storm and has had lasting impact. If "Hysteria" is a 5 for me, "Pyromania" is at least a 4.-something. But you know what? I'm rounding it up to offset the haters. Be mad. Sidenote: I will always remember this album cover as being on a t-shirt that I wanted as a teenager and being denied by my mother because of its "resemblance" to 9/11.

A seminal album of my youth that still brings it.

I guess i should have expected this after listening to Hysteria but Pyromania is such an awesome album. It might not have as many of Def Leppard's most famous songs but they are still very much here. And of course it should come as no surprise that all of these songs are great. They have the typical characteristics like catchy melodies, heavy guitars and some really great vocals. There are also some slight diversions with the formula which kept the songs fresh while still feeling like they fit well including Billy's Got A Gun's more swingy style. Like i said prior, every song is also an absolute banger meaning that this really is one of the best albums i have looked at for this project. Best Song: Photograph Worst Song: Foolin'

Honestly, amazing album. Loved it. My father in law loves it. I listened to it with my daughter and at 5 months old she loved it. Will definitely listen to it again.

My second favorite Def Leppard album behind Hysteria (which is surely on this list??)! Solid rock n roll!

Def Leppard is one of the few Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands from the 80s that I never listened to or was interested in. The only things I knew about the band until today were that they had really cool album covers, and the song "Photograph", which is on the GTA V soundtrack (once again the Grand Theft Auto series has proven to have influenced at least 10% of my musical taste and knowledge). I immediately melted at the first chorus of "Rock! Rock! (til' you drop)". Any possible prejudice I might have had regarding this 80s aesthetic with a taste of bubblegum and banana, which I now find extremely nauseating, evaporated completely in the face of this overwhelming song. A great start to an album that leaves no loose ends. An excellent hard rock album, with choruses that you can sing at the top of your lungs in large arenas. There are no flaws. 5 stars.

This has to be one of the best 80s rock albums. Great from start to song 9. Song #10 is kind of not great to end that amazing rock galore. Definitivelt def lepards best album

Infinite head bangs. Infinite Air Guitars. This shit slaps harder than Vasilii Kamotskii!!!

Gunter gleiben glauchen globen I got somethin' to say It's better to burn out than fade away My best friend in 7th grade introduced me to this album, and life was never the same after that. 5/5

My favorite pure 80s rock album of all time.

Surprising nobody, I do really enjoy Def Leppard. They’re the perfect mix of rock and pop, having plenty of cheesiness but still maintaining plenty of talent at the same time. Photograph is an absolute banger (I showed this to my stinky other half and she said she’d never heard it before! How?!). As fun and impressive as the music is, this is enhanced when you realise that the drummer only has one arm too. Def Leppard are easily my favourite British band that you wouldn’t expect to be British.

As a lifelong Hysteria supremacist, I must admit this album is also a banger

Geiler 80s Rock ImI >.< ImI Stagefright richtig Oldschool Metal, aber auch rockigere Songs die mir gefielen. "Too Late" brachte mich zum Headbangen. Werde definitiv das Album mir privat besorgen! 5 Sterne

Solid album

Loved it! Definitely my type of sound. It is a very 80s sound with Hard Rock. 4.5 so I rounded up.

Love this! An all time favorite!

the soundtrack of my pre-teen years. I don't know if it's critically good or bad but I LOVE it!

I'm 13 while listening to this.

Hard rock. An absolute stellar album that rocks hard all the way through.

The songs of my hard rock loving youth! A classic.

Shit I had a blast listening to this. Probably never again but who cares.

fun energy, made me jump about

One of my 80’s rock albums. A lot of hits in this one. 4.6 stars

One of my favorite albums of all time!

The whole album sounds like the ending song in A Goofy Movie

Music snobs can hate all they want. This album rules

I was not a metalhead in the 80s, but we all loved Def Leppard. It was gateway metal, I guess. This gets a slight bump for nostalgia but it's also a good rockin' time.

Way to take me back to the summer of '83. Lots of nostalgia in this one.

Happy to have this on the list. That shimmery Def Leppard sound I love! They are one of the pinnacles of 80s rock so two albums on this list are twice the party. Terrific!

Great record.

In retrospect, this is a more important album to me than would be expected, but it was really critical in expanding my musical palette at the time. At heart, I’m an R&B kid, raised on it partly because it was pretty much all that my parents listened to, so I basically grew up on it. We tend to forget about it, but as late as the 80s, it was still very common to be judged by the kind of music you listened to, with racial biases still entrenched. MTV was truly revolutionary, but in ‘83 they were famously called out by David Bowie for largely not playing any black artists on the channel, with the official response that such artists “didn’t fit their demographics.” I do distinctly remember this period despite only being 15, and while I hated MTV’s position on this issue, I was watching all their content and Hair metal 80s bands definitely opened up my mind to so much (rock) music. Biggest regret? Not going to rock concerts with my white high school friends at the time. And Def Leppard would’ve been a highlight: they stood out amongst the other hair/metal bands of the day. More melodic songs, and easy to sing along, stadium ready choruses. Might be a nostalgia play for me, but I think we don’t get to Destiny’s Child announcing their unironic love for Nirvana and other grunge acts in the 90s without what began with “mini social musical revolutions” started by many 80s acts like Def Leppard that helped get us to the “genre-less” stage of music we appear to thankfully be enjoying today.

Photograph Stagefright Rock of ages

I luv rock mane

5/5 - it’s a classic and it bangs

The album that started it all for me! Having grown up in East Germany, I only discovered this album in late 1990/early 1991 - but when I listened to it, I immediately fell in love with the music and the band. It's still one of my absolute favourite albums overall - there's not a single weak song on there, and even after the 100th spin I still discover new details.

DUDES ROCK

5 full stars without question for this one. I listened today, but didn’t even have to because this is so engrained in my memory and still called up periodically in my rotation. Released just about 2 weeks before my 14th birthday, I ran to the Peaches record store with high anticipation to get my hands on this ASAP. This one really broke DL into the mainstream and launched them to stardom. A production masterpiece by the band and Mutt Lange, every track is a standout. My favs would have to be Foolin, Too late for love, and of course Photograph. I was already well familiar with the band from their 2 prior albums, most notably their debut released in ‘80 “On through the night”. It ranks just as high in my book, being a little heavier sound and style with their original guitar player Pete Willis. DL’s first 3 releases really bridge the heavier rock from the late 70’s to that classic 80’s metal sound. Killer album cover too.

1001 listens to an album you must hear before you grow up. This was one of the first cassettes I ever bought and helped me realize how uncool I was…until I of course went to Chess King and bought my own sleeveless DL Union Jack t-shirt, checkered bandana and parachute pants to complete the rock n roll package. After that my path to coolness was just fine. Upon relistening I didn’t realize how much synth was actually used on the album, and along with the signature shotgun snare sound I was immediately transported back in time. Yes Mutt Lange’s meticulous style of recording seems to have stripped away some of the grit and edge of the previous two albums, but it’s hard to argue with any track. Just an amazing influential rock album complete with banger after banger played by tight musicians. And to think that drummer Rick Allen was only 19 when they recorded this. Just plain sick. Rock for the Ages? You betcha.

Still great.

Not as big as Hysteria, but Photograph itself is worth the whole album

Favourite songs: Photograph, Rock of Ages, Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop), Foolin', Too Late For Love, Comin' Under Fire, Action! Not Words, Billy's Got A Gun Least favourite songs: Die Hard the Hunter 5/5

Rock on my dudes. This is surprisingly awesome.

Love 80's rock/hair metal, 5/5

Sounds like stereotypical 80s rock LOL but I like it! This album gave me a lot of nostalgia because I used to listen to some of the songs a ton growing up (“Photograph” is one of my mom’s favorite songs). I especially liked the vocals, including the background vocals, which I thought were really well arranged.

This album rocks from start to finish

Fun classics.

Another favorite of my dad’s that brought me straight back to childhood. Super fun album, no skips!

A great example of 1980's rock albums. I would crank up the radio every time a song from this album came on. It's a must have for your collection

Surprisingly good

I didn’t need to listen to this one, as I listened to everyday when I was in 8th grade

Another great Def Leppard album, although I think Hysteria slightly beats this one. An excellent glam metal sugar rush though! Favourite: Foolin'

Fucking gold

Wait a minute: he's not saying "all night, French Fries"? Difficult to believe this was a third album (see?) and not a debut. Even more difficult to believe that Joe Elliot would be a heavy metal guy. You really don't see that many metal guys with those golden curly locks and dashing good looks... My one criticism is that they should have started with Rock of Ages. But maybe that's like exposing the killer at the beginning of the murder mystery?

I absolutely love this album. Maybe Stagefright is a little weak, but otherwise this album is an amazing hard rock masterpiece with pop sensabilities. I enjoy the darker broody pieces most (Billy's Got a Gun, Too Late for Love), but it is such an enjoyable full listen.

Amazing album. First Def Leppard album I owned. All the songs are bangers. Especially liked hearing some of the great songs that are rarely played on the radio today.

Their best album, but that's just me. I like my lead guitarists to be alcoholics and my drummers to have two arms. Three monster hits, but almost any song here could have been released as a single and would have exploded on radio at the time. Maybe that's why I prefer this over Hysteria. The hits - and album tracks - on this album hold up much better.

I think everybody has that one genre where they instantly drop any kind of critical lens and just fucking have fun with it. That's hard rock for me, and this album certainly delivers on the fun elements. The guitar work is phenomenal, and the vocals work kind of like a harder version of AC/DC. This will definitely be in the rotation going forward. Favorite track: Rock of Ages

5 one-armed stars!

So many really great tracks on this album!

this is awesome it's like acdc but better would definitely listen again

Pretty cool.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Honestly this album just helped guide rock music into a fantastic direction, also it slaps.

Absolute ripper. Will go back time and time again.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM, DEF LEOPARD IS ALWAYS AMAZING

God this is so dramatic but great. Favorites were photograph and Billy’s got a gun. Least favorite was rock of ages. 😘

The whole album is the bright side of hair metal def worth a listen

hell yeah rock on

sonzeira, rockzao classico diferenciado

This album is as catchy as I remember when listening to it on the juke box seeming every day of 8th grade lunch.

I LOVE Pyromania!! I’ve listened to the full album before, it’s just amazing! It’s one of the best albums from the 80s, and one of my favorite albums ever recorded!! I especially love Too Late For Love, Photograph, and Foolin’!

Stand-outs: "Rock Rock Till You Drop," "Stagefright," "Photograph," "Comin' Under Fire"

Absolutely love Def Leppard. Brilliant album

Probably a 4⭐️ but it’s getting the full 5 because Def Leppard are awesome

🟦 92 🥇 Photograph 🥈 Rock Rock (Till You Drop) 🥉 Rock of Ages

old favorite

Gunter gleiben glauchen globen

I am an unapologetic Def Leppard fan. I actually saw them when they were touring for Pyromania...they were opening for Billy Squier! :D Great album...and Photograph is one of my favorites!

Def Leppard's songs are like massive structures built of steel girders bolted together with pieces sticking out in random directions, like a Lego tower build by a 5-year-old. (Foolin' has at least three segments that could be considered choruses.) Now I learn that Mutt Lange encouraged them to write bits and pieces and swapped them around almost at random (I also read this in a book about the Cars, who recorded Heartbeat City with Lange and found him to be a lunatic). This album has my favorite Def Lep songs (Photograph and Foolin'), and the most ridiculous (Rock of Ages), so another 4.5.

This one didn't click with me as much as Hysteria, but was still pretty good. Having a bit more influence from hard rock and less from pop, several tracks are a bit too close to AC/DC without being quite as good. Still, it was a fun listen and I'm sure with another listen or two I'd want to put a few songs on my playlist.

Intro was kinda corny lyrically but sonically the whole album is amazing The vocalist kinda sounded like the guy from ac/dc but I might be tripping lol Cool album for an energy boost, great riffs and drums, but lyrically there isn't much to analyze I liked "Photograph" and "Billy's got a gun" the most

As far as radio friendly somewhat hard rock goes this is a masterpiece. That being said I just don't see this ever being a genre that can earn 5 stars.

Now that's what I call Classic Rock, easy breezy listening

Great rock album but not quite perfect in my book.

Tuff ahh album

A bit dated but it is a fun album for sure

Day 299 Just big dumb rock and I quite enjoy that sometimes Highlights Rock of Ages Action not words Billy’s got a gun

Buena banda, me sorprendió el nivel de rock, buen material saqué de acá.

Some bangers with Photograph, Foolin' and Rock of Ages

Surprised how good this was, actually. A solid lineup of songs that have stood the test of time.

Glossy hard rock and arena metal built from towering guitar layers, synthetic textures, thunderous drums, and soaring vocals hits like watching fireworks explode inside a sports car commercial—ridiculous, oversized, and almost impossibly catchy. The album transforms raw rock energy into pure mass-market spectacle without losing its momentum or sense of fun. Its relentless polish occasionally borders on mechanical, but the hooks are too huge to ignore.

Fun and upbeat

Veldig mye bedre enn jeg har trodd! 80talls puddel uten tvil, men mye mørkere chordprogressions og mindre poppete enn jeg trodde! Liker det godt!

My kind of dad rock album. Just great rock anthems and idgaf if it’s cheesy or dated it’s still awesome. Photograph is my fav song of the album. Too Late For Love and Foolin’ (my fav first listen) were my other highlights

Pyromania is where Def Leopard started their rise that would peak with Hysteria. Lots of radio hits here.

Heerlijk rock album.

Classic NWOBM. Good stuff.

Holds up so well.

I could copy / paste my other Def Leppard review I think! This kind of music is fun if you just try not to think about it too much. Just enjoy the riffs and the choruses and switch off your mind :)

Fun, silly hair metal. One of the defining rock albums of the 80s, with a million imitators. While I don't love this sound, it does make me very nostalgic, and it gets points just for that. It makes me want to drive a boxy old Chevy around and headbang.

I was shocked at how good this record is on first full listen. A lot of strong guitar work, especially with regard to chord progressions and hooks, not to mention melodies and solos. The vocals are another huge standout, especially with range and intensity; having prior knowledge of their follow up, Hysteria, this listen surprised me with its sharper edges.

Liked it more than I thought I would

My favorite Leppard hits are on this album. Overall just a good time to put on and bop your head to.

FAVS (top 3): photograph, too late for love, die hard the hunter mençoes honrosas: rock! rock! (till you drop), stagefright, rock of ages, billy's got a gun gene muito bom bem classiquinho mas bem bom de ouvir!! passou rapidinho os 45 min e eu amo mt isso, roquenrou bb!!!!!! nota final: 4/5

Solid Aerosmith style rock with a bit of Boston special effects. Still holds up. 4/5

Aww this is an amazing album, I absolutely love it and how much fun it is to listen to!

Surprisingly good.

Really been debating between a 4 and a 5 and although I love this, I don't think it's quite deserving of the very top marks. However, this really is in essence everything I love about 80s music rolled into one. Glam metal is lowkey best music genre icl.

Photograph!!!

Surprisingly good! I had no idea how many Def Leppard songs I knew and liked

A very fun album that I don't think is as good as Hysteria, but it still is a great sunny day or pick-me-up album. I'd give it 3.5 stars but will round up, as I do think there is a lot more substance here than what most people gave them credit for, especially during the 90's when all hair metal was immediately deemed worthless.

Virgin music snob: “Hair metal is cringe” “Arena rock sucks” “Nirvana killed hair metal” Chad Def Leppard enjoyer: “This shit rocks” “Guitar solo go brrrrr” “F-f-f-foolin”

Some classics on here🔥

Hair metal that is fun to listen to

As if I didn't listen to this one a couple hundred times in my youth.

Debí haberle dado la oportunidad a Def Lepard desde hace tiempo, que gran álbum

The very first cassette I asked my parents to buy me, sometime in the summer of 1983. That summer I was going to a summer day camp and I vividly remember being on a bus for a field trip and seeing an older kid (he was probably like 15 at the time, but he seemed like an adult to me, lol) wearing a sleeveless black shirt with the Pyromania logo on it and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I don't remember how I even knew that it was a band or an album, but somehow I put that together and asked my dad on a Friday night to buy the cassette at a record store. I have no idea what I was expecting to hear when I pressed play, but it did not disappoint. I had grown up listening to my parents' music (mostly Beatles, some Eagles and Paul Simon that I recall) but this was the first music I ever loved that was MINE. It was a profound milestone in my musical (and general) development. And the timing was nearly perfect as I started listening to this album around the same time we got MTV and the videos for the singles off Pyromania greatly enhanced my falling in love with the music. Listening to "Photograph" right now takes me back there. I listened to this album fairly recently and was surprised at how well it holds up. I'm sure there was at least a little nostalgia involved, but these songs are well-crafted and the production (which I know was already legendary in its time) was fantastic. I fell out of love with Def Leppard later on - hard - and really didn't like any of their later music that was much more popular than this album, but I adored this and also High and Dry, which I purchased from Columbia House. P.S. - Listening today, it is striking how much Joe Elliott's vocals in "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)" sound like Tom Keifer of Cinderella.

More Glam Metal than Heavy Metal. It sounds quite similar to any of the other stadium rock band albums from the same era - not bad, but a bit too commercialised.

Tried not to judge it as a Hair Metal album. It definitely made me see the appeal of this era of music. Rock of Ages is a banger and same with Photograph. After that, it all kinda sounds the same, but not in a bad way. Also loved Too Late for Love.

was listening to this and was like wow this is so Supernatural (2005-2020) coded…… then ‘rock of ages’ started playing and OH. yes i was correct. (that songs plays when dean rolls up to the fight between lucifer and michael at season 5 finale…… yall know the one)

I loved Def Leppard growing up, and this has some great memories. It’s not a brilliant album, it’s aged too roughly for that, but it has some solid tracks - Photograph, Too Late For Love, Rock Of Ages - but also some really average cock-rock stuff. Not as good as Hysteria, or indeed High and Dry (which isn’t on the list, but is probably my favourite Leppard album), but it’s still better than most if it is your kind of thing.

Head banger from my high school years….big hair, tight jeans.

This album reminds me of my childhood; I love me some def leppard. This is a great rock album.

Never been a fan of Def Leopard but this was a bad ass album. I’d listen again.

Remember listening to this at overnight camp in my early teens and being blow away. Some songs held up over time.

I have a super soft spot for Def Leppard, or at least the Pyromania to Hysteria era of Def Leppard. I know most of their sound could be attributed to Mutt Lange studio tricks, but I don’t care. I don’t even think the lyrics are particularly deep or compelling, or that they’re doing anything musically that is terribly revolutionary with their instruments, but those two records hit all the right notes for me. It’s probably nostalgia for me; I think Hysteria was the first record I ever sat down and listened to front to back, and I loved it. Nothing has changed on that front since, and it’s almost 40 years later. Anyway, Hysteria is the superior record of the two, but Pyromania is pretty solid also. 8.5/10

Hell yeah

Great rock music.

Glam rock qui s'écoute bien !

Very loud and oh so 80s.

Too late 4 loving. Benson the burner !! Rock on

glam rock 😭🤘🏼

Whos up deffing their leppard rn

Kan inte låta bli att gilla detta - även om det är lite fjantigt är det också kul och catchy lyssning rakt igenom!

Je suis habituellement pas un gros fan de «hair metal», mais un ptit Def Leppard de temps en temps, je dis pas non

Amazing start, but the hype kinda died a bit in the middle. I could definitely vibe to this though.

Tough to decide which I like more between this album and Hysteria. Photograph is one that's been a little overplayed to me, but Foolin' and Rock Of Ages are a few of my favorites they've made.

A jewel from my teens. I started with Hysteria and then I bought this record

pretty nice

Was initially going to give this 3 stars as I'm not really a glam metal fan, but as it went on, there were some catchy hooks and great technical ability that drew me in. So I gave it another spin and I quite enjoyed it overall the secondtime. Good rock album to play whilst working. 4/5 some great solos and catchy hooks. Just that element of cheese that means it's a soft 4, but 4 nonetheless.

Great album … best listened to on vinyl. Perfect set up for Hysteria

Def Leppard flying high on this metal juggernaut. Always a great listen!

My first favorite band and eventually first concert. Yeah it’s dated and cheesey but nostalgia plus the admitted fun it is to belt out some of the larger than life choruses still hit now. Is anybody out theeere, anybody theeeeeeere. C’mon it’s fun. A note listening as an adult, what a weird end to the album, must’ve left some people scratching their heads when the record stopped spinning. (3.5/5)

It’s like sex with a hooker, lots of fun but totally meaningless and no deep connection

really good 80s rock… STAAGEFRIGHT ALLL NIGHTT

A classic classic rock album. It’s perfect for what it is and the time. Still very listenable and fun.

Just an absurd album. It's dumb. It's ridiculous. Also, those people can sing.

It's no secret that I hate pop, and this is basically the rock equivalent. Call it what you want: glam-rock, hair-metal, maybe even just straight up pop-rock, but it's simple as hell and endlessly predictable. And yet, I really, really like this album. Maybe it's just because my mom has always liked music like this. But the vocals are solid, the music is energetic, and at the end of the day it's totally catchy and still pretty damn gritty. Def Leppard gets a pass. Perfect band name.

It’s refreshing to hear such a full sound, with quality singing and performing. A lot of bands don’t hold up to this. As with their next album, I kept wanting to turn it up even more. 4.5

Never listened to a full def leopard album so excited for this one. Rock!rock! Is really fun. Well written and great guitar which I’m thinking will be a theme. Chorus is catchy too. Great fade into photograph. This is an all timer of a song. Probably heard 1000 times growing up. Very catchy. Stage fright is another banger. Just great music. Then slowing it down with too late for love. Harmony part at the beginning is really cool. Guitar solo is awesome. Multiple layers an good drums. Die hard the Hunter has the best solo but other than that good not great song. Foolin is really well written. All of the choruses are very catchy. Another great guitar solo. Rock of ages is another classic. A little bit of a simple song but just a well made rock song. Coming under fire and action before word are good not great. Kind of forgettable. Classic 80s rock songs. Billys got a gym is really good. Can feel the emotion. Great guitar. Love the story telling. Great way to end this album. Lives up to the hype, and will listen to again. 4.1 stars.

This is fun. I like their guitar sound!

Many afternoons were spent listening to this album on cassette in the back of my dad's truck. He was (and still is) a connoisseur of 80s hair metal, which I always compared to being a connoisseur of Big Macs—they're not bad necessarily, they're just intended to reach the largest consumer demographic. And you know what, after a few beers and a spliff on a Friday night, the only thing I want in the world is a Big Mac. You rock and roll on Def Leppard.

extremely cheesy and nothing metal about it but its a fun listen

love itttt

Was not expecting to like it going in but it was a vibeeee

This was a really good heavy metal album. Big hits off of this one. I had thought they were from Germany but they’re from the UK.

Cheesy 80s rock, but I’m into the cheese

Secretly love me some hair metal

Dumb cheesy fun. This album caught me on a good day because I'm pretty sure I hate this. 4/5

10/01/2026 A good, classic, British rock album. Spotify listeners: 8.2 million

I'd really like to give this 5 stars but it comes up just a little bit short.

I guess I never realized how much this guy's voice sounds like the ACDC guy(s). This is a classic 80's hair metal album and band. There are some bangers in here with Photograph, Foolin', and Rock of Ages. My sister played the shit out of this, so there is a great deal of nostalgia here. I'll give this a 4, because you can roller skate your ass off to this.

Absoloute thrill ride, start to finish. Massive sounds and big neon, this album is hard to ignore Grade: 4A Top Tracks: Photograph, Rock of Ages, Action! Not Words.

Wasn't sure what to expect of this album, but I've enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

Simple in its ambition with some great tracks.

I think that this album was one of the main reasons why pop metal emerged in the 80s. Yeah, it's pretty cheesy, but the songs are catchy and fun. I liked some of their songs when I was a kid because it was so catchy. And I also like the riffs Phil Collen wrote on this because they are catchy. I don't know if I mentioned that this is catchy. But really though, it's very good. It's hard to write songs like this because of the complexity of simplicity.

This will always be my favorite Def Leppard album, even more than Hysteria. Not only does it have a lot of classic songs that are still enjoyable today, but the production was state of the art for its time. Mutt Lange’s work on this album set a new standard, influencing almost all the arena rock that followed in the ’80s. However, because the production was so polished and glossy, it has also faced some pushback over the years, with critics claiming the production is the main reason the album and its music came out as well as it did.

I know it’s shallow and vapid and low IQ but it’s so fun!

Solid fucking album.

A classic!

Very good hard rock album. listened to it a lot in 2022, i would give it a 3.5/5 but its closer to 4 so 4/5

all good cheesy fun. Very easy to listen to , some brilliant guitar too.

I love this shit. Cheesy rock just for fun. Surface level singalong. People are being harsh I think - you're not meant to take it seriously. Are they super talented? No Are the lyrics deep? No It's just good fun man, lighten up, grab a hairbrush and enjoy it. The real highlight was actually the songs after on Spotify. Cheesy 80s rock. It's like a guilty pleasure, except I don't feel guilty.

they were gross but they had THAT thing

Classic hard rock with a bit of glam. Enough to stick in your head and probably would have sounded insanely innovational and powerful back in its time but now feels generic and overdone. I think that it sounds like that is a good thing because it gives this album a genre defining status

Yeah, they really rocked. It was a pretty silly era in musical history, but these guys rocked it for all that it was worth.

Love the 80s composition and sound, kind of one note throughout the album though. Some sick licks throughout.

Solid album, enjoyable hooks, great 80’s rock album.

Def Leppard hits are so good. And the other songs also have me nodding and jamming along. The Wikipedia blurb noting that this is their more radio-friendly sound makes sense. I think they've got the iconic 80s sound down to a T. Even with their more radio-friendly sound, they've still got some fairly heavy rock songs. "Billy's Got a Gun" specifically. I really have a hard time finding much to say about Def Leppard, just because I think they're really solid without doing much that stands out as spectacular, if that makes any sense. Their "bad" songs (relatively) set a pretty high floor, and their big hits take them into pretty elite territory. All while being a pretty easy listen. Favorite Song(s): Photograph, Too Late for Love

🤘🏻

Heavy metal for the masses. Cheesy as hell but by god do they sell it, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't absolutely love the big hits off this album in my definitive high school years (in the early 2010s).

Great album… able to listen to it all the way through. It was almost like being at there concert again

Best Song: Rock of Ages Hair metal ruled a good portion of the 80s and this was a stepping stone for bands like Winger, Warrant, Enuff Zenuff, etc. This is better than a lot of other average at best "metal" that would come out later in the decade. 4/5.

Lange fully moves the band to pop metal juggernaut. The next album would realize the formula but most of the NWOBHM is gone. Classic stuff.

*Solid 80s rock/metal album but no specific track really stood out

In high school when this came out and damn, it was packed and good. Years later, I was able to talk to Phil Collen and I know he wasn't there from the beginning but the thoughtfulness reinforced the straightforward power of the music.

A great slice of ’80s pop–hair-metal that feels essential to the decade. It’s a blast from start to finish—cheesy riffs, massive hooks, and lyrics you can’t help but sing along to. Pure arena-ready fun.

I mean this is right up my alley. So much fun classic rock. The riffs are great and the solos rock. These are ANTHEMS! Liked Songs: "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)" , "Photograph" , "Stagefright" , "Too Late For Love" , "Foolin' " , "Rock Of Ages" , "Comin' Under Fire"

This was fun 3.75

Gen X anthems on Pyromania. They stepped main stream from High and Dry but not as pop as they end up with Hysteria. It was a fantastic introduction to a heavier sound in contrast to the soft rock that was battling to take over in 83. Just as solid today.

Photograph is pretty good, and have heard it a bunch before. I remember watching some Def Leppard videos on MTV back in the day, overall pretty solid 4

Rating: 8/10 It's so insanely cheesy but I don't care: this album slaps.

Good album, one song saved

This is proper cheesy 80's rock, with those 80's rock n' roll vocals, and that 80's attitude. I'm sure they recorded most of this album while strutting around the studio, throwing in an occasional crotch thrust for good measure. It's good for what it is. They've got some riffs. They've got some grooves. I also really like the extended guitar jams. You have to admit it's kind of catchy. It might not rock my world, but they have some serious toe tapping energy, and the album is very consistent from start to finish. Ps: As with others, I was taken aback by the line that the Offspring sampled. 3.5 rounded up.

4 out of 5. For what this album is I enjoyed myself. I have a soft spot for a lot of 80's music, especially stuff like this.

more rock! classsic.

Pure candy-coated rock. Hair metal in full costume, and undeniably fun. Silly, shiny, and enjoyable. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Photograph - Too Late For Love - Foolin' - Rock Of Ages

Def Leppard é uma daquelas branding bands. Um album de rock clássico dos 80, cheio de (ótimos) riffs e bem produzido pra caramba. AOR total, pra escutar alto. A turma de Wayne's World certamente curtiria um monte. 4 estrelas

Just some good fun rock music. Windows down, driving down the interstate, great vibes songs.

Todella hyvä levy, joka oli kyllä tiedossa. 4/5.

I remember when Ken Chutney wanted to treat us to seeing Def Leppard live. He booked the wrong tickets. It was a nightmare. A load of Deaf Lepers sat in a room talking about their experiences. There wasn’t any point in them having the bells around their necks. It was really hard to people who had full hearing! 4.0 7/10 Rock Of Ages

Quality anthemic rock. Layered guitars sound so full and crisp. They really punch through. Some proper sharp riffage and some fantastic soloing on top. Lyrically not my favourite album, but the vocals are great. A very good listen. Favourite track - Photograph. 8/10

I love early Def Leppard. Rock Rock, Rock of Ages, Pyromania… whole album really takes me back

I was surprised that I didn’t love it as much as I used to when I was 16 hahah

One of my favorite aspects of discovering new music is finding out how different artists and musicians inspire one another. With this album, it was very clear for me that Def Leppard was influenced by Kiss and definitely has been an influence in the likes of Guns N'Roses later in the decade. A great album, surprisingly interesting and creative and one of the best representations of what 80's rock music had to offer at its best. 8/10

Really fun album. First time listening to any Def Leppard album all the way through. Don’t know when I’ll listen to it again but really enjoyed this listen.

I’m so pleasantly surprised by this. One thing I have learned (now that I’m about 400 albums in) is all the hard rock/metal albums blend together into a “meh” for me. But throw in some 80s hair band pop-y elements, and this felt fresh and fun.

Powerful and cheesy, just like we remember it. I feel like these guys were the other KISS, and more of a good thing is never wrong.

Good album.

Produced by Mutt Lange, ‘Pyromania’ sounds like every AC/DC record he was handling at the time — pristine pop-metal with a slick production sheen. It’s big, bold, and unmistakably Def Leppard. They’re not reinventing the wheel, but they’re not pretending to, either. What they do bring is energy, massive melodic riffs and solos, and brash swagger. Along with their follow-up ‘Hysteria’, this album oozes peak ’80s hair/glam metal — big hooks, big hair, lots of shine, and with just enough of a hard edge to keep it grounded. Generic and empty? Absolutely. But goddamn, it’s a lot of fun.

Album 857 of 1089 Def Leppard - Pyromania (1983) Rating : 4 / 5 This one came out during my senior year of high school, so yeah — I remember it well. The hits were everywhere. It felt like Photograph was playing on a loop at every party, in every car, and on every radio. And let’s be honest — “Gunter gleiben glauchen globen” basically became its own cultural moment. Listening again, I couldn’t help but think… is “bubblegum metal” a thing? Because if it is, this might be the gold standard. Not saying that as a knock — it’s polished, catchy, big-sounding, and unapologetically arena-ready. The riffs are clean, the vocals soaring, and everything is dialed in for maximum singalong potential. It’s not the kind of thing I’d seek out much these days, but nostalgia does a lot of heavy lifting. And for what it is — slick, radio-friendly rock with metal edges — it holds up just fine.

only ever heard Pour Some Sugar On Me before today Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) - 3/5 Photograph - 5/5 Stagefright - 5/5 Too Late for Love - 3/5 Die Hard the Hunter - 3/5 Foolin' - 4/5 Rock of Ages - 5/5 Comin' Under Fire - 4/5 Action! Not Words - 4/5 Billy's Got a Gun - 3/5 Average score: 3.9/5 (rounding up)

Guilty pleasure. I hate to admit how much this won me over, but it did. It’s impeccably produced, turned up loud it just sounds so good. The sawblade rock guitars are very satisfying. But ultimately this album’s main weapon is those stunning choruses, the soaring melodies, the layers of harmonies, the goddamn chord progressions (these guys know how to wield a flip into major key). The lyrics are dumb as shit and yes this is pure Big Penis Rock, but it really hits the rock pleasure centers. Must-listen #186.

Classic album, really solid throughout. Reminds me of college graduation. Lots to like.

I really hope the leopard gets his hearing back. Hopefully he learns to obey the headphones volume warning on his phone.

Great album if you grew up in the 80s!

Ridiculous pop hair metal, but I'll be damned if it wasn't a fun listen from top to bottom.

Not technically great but fun all the same

A good album, I liked Too Late For Love, Foolin' and Rock Of Ages.

Legit thought Rock!Rock! was ACDC for a minute

Great album!!!

An admitted guilty pleasure. Yeah it's really dumb but I can't resist it. Brings back memories. Nostalgia is a helluva drug.

Not a pizza point in the tri-state area would be caught dead without playing Photograph once per-visit in 83/84. Great time capsule of the era.

Didn't expect 2 Def Leppard albums on this list, but it's way better than another elvis costello album. Real fun listen, Catchy Cheesy 80s Rock. not as good as Hysteria but i enjoyed it. Maybe not something you NEED to hear but atleast better and more known than some wierd Deep cut from costello

4 The template of Eighties Metal finally crashing into the Pop chart. The singles kick so much ass, but it peters out in the end. Harmonies, crushing guitars, those mountainous riffs all are excellent. "Photograph" and "Foolin'" are still tough to beat. Even "Too Late For Love" is a great power ballad. "Stagefright" is also underrated as well. Thankfully, the ideas come full force on "Hysteria" and yet "Pyromania" still cannot top "High N'Dry" for me.

didn’t know it was this album the one that made girlies get into hard rock, that’s why it sounds so mainstream. it’s fire tho

One of the best Glam/Hair Metal albums of the '80s. Great riffs and drum parts with catchy melodies all over the album. As much as I enjoy this album, I don't think both "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" should be on this list. In my opinion, you can live with only hearing the latter one and switching Pyromania with a different, more diverse album. Fav tracks: "Photograph", "Stagefright", "Too late for love", "Foolin'" 4/5 Glam metal is my guilty pleasure

One of the first CDs I owned. Dated, but good for hair rock.

Well this was fun. I kind of love this party hard rock.

Better than expected hair metal.

Not much more than to say this is just some good fuckin' classic heavy metal. Classics like Photograph, Foolin', Rock of Ages, and Too Late For Love, and the rest of the track listing goes just as hard [although I'm not huge on Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)]. Comin' Under Fire is a great deep cut.

Uneven at times, but "Photograph" (my favorite DL song) outweighs some of the mediocre bits.

In typical Def Leppard fashion, the hits are great, lyrics a bit subpar, but a fun listen nonetheless.

Many consider this album better than Hysteria. I’m not entirely convinced of that. I do think Photograph is probably one of their best songs of all times. And I also randomly quote the opening line of Rock of Ages - just feels good and confuses people. Saw them live in 1987 at the height of their career and hope to see them again this summer.

Raise your goblet of rock!

My 12-year-old self would’ve given this a solid five stars without hesitation. I absolutely loved this album as a kid and couldn’t get enough of those cheesy MTV videos. Listening now, though, it’s clear the pop rock sound and glossy production haven’t aged well. The better choice for this list would’ve been High ’n’ Dry, that album holds up far better than the two on this list. Still, I’m giving this one four stars. It probably doesn’t deserve it, but I can’t ignore the joy it brought me at one point in my life. That kind of nostalgia counts for something.

Very good
