NOICE.
3.5
Far edgier than the debut album by the Stooges. This was the last album with this lineup a couple of changes and years later Raw Power would be the bands best and last real album
Down on the Street is good. I like the horn work a lot. It's fun and well balanced. It does have some loose moments that pull it down some but it's solid and makes sense to be on the list. Strong 3, Weak 4.
I have brought up The Doors before in my review of The Stooges. This time around, this album sounds like a genuine version of what The Door were trying to put out. Good, chaotic energy. If this is what you are into, this feels like a strong building block for music that came after.
This is an okay album. I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't say it was great. It's probably more interesting than their first album though, but not by enough to warrant being a full star over it.
On first listen it was good but nothing stood out too much I’ll try again later I tried again and it was still just okay not bad
Not as good as the subsequent album Raw Power, but the sound and anger are there
This was ok, nothing more.
skroz okej, 3 super pesme sasvim pristojno 3,5/5
3.5
stooges, punk, saxophon.
okei jeg vil sjekke ut the stooges! see what it's all about. // det er gøy men i kinda dgaf. tror jeg har hørt i feil humør. høydepunkt: Loose, T.V. Eye
At times chaotic, but given it was recorded in 1970 it was way ahead of its time. Raw tracks and mostly pared back production, an interesting album.
alte wie 1970 do hetmer da nonig dörfe. chrank aggressiv. loose! i'm loose! viagrabooooys ha no freud, aber tv eye isch sooo repetitiv. aber mega bekannt oder? fun house isch biiitz funk mässig. es isch au easy churz. ich glaub well das uuultra pionierig isch für 1970 mueni es 3 geh aber würkli würkli guet ischs nöd.
First time listening, was pleasantly surprised and ready to give this 4-stars until “L.A. Blues”
Iggy Rocks
Never heard of this band. Not bad, lively, but the songs end up sounding the same
Eh just ok
My least favorite stooges album. I find it lacks the intensity and rawness of the other albums. Good but not great
I dug this -- until it got down the stretch. The title track and L.A. Blues would have been great fun to watch the Stooges lay down in the studio, but for a listening experience -- not so much.
Groove and Rock , spannende Musik die Sinn macht, Die Musi unterstzützt den Sänger
this album brought to you by cocaine
I have pretty limited experience with Iggy and The Stooges, outside of pop culture referencing and The Passenger (which I love). Reading Tidal's description of the band and its numerous comparisons to Velvet Underground before starting this album made me a little apprehensive because I fucking hate that shit-ass band. Listening to the album after that was quite the surprise. I don't feel like I was able to completely absorb and appreciate it on the first run through, so I'll definitely be adding this to my personal collection. The Doors influence is certainly right up front, though I feel like the Doors were more interesting lyrically and in regards to song structure. It's obvious The Stooges didn't want to be the Doors, but just took an element they liked and did their own thing with it. I can appreciate that. ⭐⭐⭐.5 on the first listen, but I think over time that might improve
I really liked the energy of this. Defying genre and convention to be exactly what they wanted to be.
While I’m not usually a fan of proto-punk, the Stooges and Iggy Pop laid some of the most groundwork for the punk genre as a whole. Fun House is their second album, and their first three albums are on this list. Fun House is the bridge between their self-titled debut (jarring and pure proto-punk) and third album (refined punk). I didn’t love this, or even like all of it, but I found it interesting. Iggy Pop’s vocals are the same (and I love it), multiple songs contain screaming (which I normally wouldn’t like), a saxophone pops up in several songs (odd usage but I liked it), and the Stooges explore beyond proto-punk to create an experimental album. Fun House is more than the usual noise that proto-punk is.
A decent listen, but like the last Stooges album I got on this project, it listens like tolerable proto-punk. It didn't really bring anything to the table that the last album didn't take care of. Aside from the opening track, "Down on the Street", this album was just okay for me. The last track was basically just noise...
J’ai plutôt bien aimé
3A
Kind of interesting. Probably pretty innovative for its time.
Buen álbum de rock. Ni muy pesado, ni muy ligero
I enjoyed this but I think I need more time with it to decide if it's something I'd listen to again.
Die Anfänge von Hardrock. Iggy Pop
Fun, good vibes. 6.5/10
The Stooges are pretty cool and sound effortlessly timeless for the most part. Another good example of that.
Too fucking long
I liked the violent saxophone and the screaming. It did get a little repetitive sometimes, but it was still cool.
Generally like it and can hear the influence it had on later bands, but a lot of the songs started out really fun and then became too repetitive.
It was ok
Pretty good punk album! will probably revisit but didn’t do a lot for me.
Not the biggest fan of Iggy or the Stooges, but this is better than some of the other stuff I've heard from them.
If the singing was more interesting they might have something.
last song so bad but overall 3
Not for me. A bit too much "short, fast, loud".
Enjoyed it
more of the weird and somewhat charming early attempts at punk rock music this time around. a strange blend of rock, jazz... all sorts of influence. it's a decently engaging little record that's full of these guys just throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. this album is a lot. it's all over the place. again i can see why many people say it's a good early example of punk, but god damn is this album a bit messy. especially the last track which is just one big abstract freestyle. a little bit of an oddball in the collection, but maybe some classic rock/punk fanatics may enjoy it more.
Sehr viel Energie, am Ende etwas zu viel Geschrei
The sound of a man waving his willy in the air, and not giving it a shit. We should all try this more often. It's relentless, from start to finish. The bass and drums pulsate with no let up. Iggy never was one for ballads.
3.5
Wonderful, wild, rhythmic and exciting. But also: all these songs kind of sound the same.
Pretty good roots of punk, but I don’t hear it for all songs.
6/10
Wild shit for 1970.
honestly iwie anstrengend
This is a lot for first thing on a Monday morning.
A bit more bite to it than some of the other recent 70s albums I've had. Still a bit forgettable
Börjar starkt. Men tappar mot andra halvan. Sista låten är bara trots. Synd.
Punk rawk
Not the biggest fan of the stooges or iggy this wasn’t a chore it’s not an easy listen by any stretch but it’s definitely a good album to listen to.
Low/mid 3, some nice moments, but sometimes the tracks just melt into each other and get a bit samey
Need to relisten at some point
Quite enjoyed many of the tracks. Less so the shouty ones
It’s just seven tracks of pure coiled tension, refusing to give you a clean resolution. Like an anxious soundscape. The music captures a unique kind of nihilistic groove. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions Down on the Street Loose Dirt
It’s ok, but of the Stooges albums I’ve had it’s impressed me the least.
I appreciate the energy but mostly this just sounded the same.
That was a brief album that showed glimmers of promise. It wasn't mind blowing, but it was probably way ahead of its time. I can see how this paved the way for punk. Kind of interesting how they used the saxophone though, you don't hear it played that way very often.
pretty fun punk album
Started really strongly, fell away at the middle but came back again. Overall solid album
a really surprising album. I had heard of the stooges but never actually gotten around to listening to them. I especially loved the guitar’s pattern (loved that it can be found throughout the songs, a sort of “liant” declined in various degrees of “edginess”—in LA Blues it is almost “grinçant”. Favourite: Down on the Street.
Random thoughts: * I was surprised how fresh this still sounds today. While some of the production quality sounds dated (drums especially) the rest of it sounds like something that might be created today. * Dirt was my favorite track. * This gives me a great sense of why Iggy Pop has been so beloved despite not really hearing much of his music over the years. * Glad that I was able to hear more of godfather of punk!
cool album, some of the songs werent for me
I see how it might be foundational, but with today’s ears it sounds a lot like harder Rolling Stones stuff. Not that exciting I guess.
Some of this went pretty hard
Previously rated: The Stooges (2/5) Raw Power (4/5) ************************** I didn't care for their first album, especially that "We Will Fall" track. Bleck. But I did like their third album quite a bit. This one is their second album. Which will it be more like? Better than the first, but still has that one track that drags it down, L.A. Blues. It's just a noise-fest. The rest is decent stuff, just not as good as Raw Power. The list did not need three Stooges albums.
Ok
Sweet short punk
Eh… it was whatever. The entire band’s sound and the singing just did nothing for me, and I pretty much tuned the album out as it played in the background while I ate breakfast. 2.5 / 5
Great pre-punk addition. Can hear the influence on subsequent punk acts in every song (including the album closer LA Blues).
I might have lost my shit for this in the 60s.
the 2nd stooges album in a row.. again i thought this album was fine :) with another unlistenable song on it but at least this one was at the end. also 1969>1970 evidently
Ok yeah, this was a Fun House.
Good fun album. 3.5 stars.
I love Iggy, but this is early days and you can still hear it. The vocals can be grating at times, especially if you’re used to what he pulled off in later projects. What really works here is the energy, the saxophone, the looseness, the sense of fun. It’s messy but influential, and what they did for the genre can’t be overlooked. Overall, it lands at a solid 7.5/10.
Decent 3/5 rock album
Not a fan. Musically interesting. Lyrically not.
it was all right i guess. better than most mid punk
I love the tighter opening tracks of this album. The later, dissolve into chaotic rambling was not my favorite.
A short, but decent album. It has a gritty/unpolished sound that adds to the atmosphere. I'd say there were about 4 songs that I'd revisit.
stands up well, could be played today as a new record. Good
3/5
Started as a good album but got a bit screechy towards the end.
Imagine walking into a club in 1969 and hearing this blasting out - what a buzz that would be. High energy and clearly influential on a lot of good music to follow.
-Like the guitars -Nothing really stood out to me this time -Liked the style tho
Did I miss something?
Def a band that’s good in small doses, and maybe why I kind of liked this one from them given the run length. But better than I expected, between a 3/4 for me.
The Stooges is one of those bands I always expect to like more than I do. There is stuff on this album I enjoy, but also really annoyed that over 10% of it is in the last "song" which is complete trash. Nearly had me rounding down, but sticking with a mid-range rating since the other 90% is ok. 2.75/5
Just ok
Vuig. Vies. Schmudzig. Ranzig.
That was pretty cool. 3 stars. Nothing really mind blowing. Iggy Pop was pretty cool. Pretty psychedelic sounds there.
Pretty cool
3.5/5
A good album.
3/5 dirt ахуенная
It had the whimsy most 70’s albums had. It reminds me of an album will and Jonathan from stranger things may listen to. It’s just weird enough and rock enough to make it interesting, and is kinda messy but it adds to the charm.
Cover 6.5 Started out strong-ish... then meh... and finally... stupid. Thanks Iggy! 👍
Raw. Rock. Influential.
-fun sounds -a little one note
This one kinda grew on me. There’s a raw power here that resonates throughout the whole album. Some of the songs could stand to be a little shorter, though.
I just don't think Iggy/The Stooges are my cup of tea. Either that or I need to revisit this at some point.
These albums of the origins of punk kinda hit like early old school hip-hop, meaning they sound dated and muted compared to what it evolved into. Maybe it was jamming for its time, but I felt like it was the same sort of song playing over and over again. It wasn't that bad, just not that great. Feels like a low 3.
Had some pretty cool moments in this one, but was pretty middle of the road from start to finish.
This started as a 4 and eventually ended as a 2. Gonna go with a low 3 here as the songs I liked I really liked. But really ended on a sour note with me.
I’ve listened to bits of Iggy Pop here and there over the years, but never really spent a lot of time with the Stooges. I always appreciated his persona as something of a wild man and he’s a consummate performer, but the Stooges were far enough before my time that it was easy to miss the proverbial boat with them. And this is why I like the idea of 1001 albums generator, because now I have the opportunity to circle back and catch some of the stuff I’ve just missed out on. There’s a lot to like about Funhouse for me. This record feels raw and energetic, and I bet their live shows were killer. It sounds simultaneously a product of its time, but also probably ahead of it too; much of this reminds me of the Doors at their most drugged-out and aggressive, but without the Ray Manzarek keyboardiness. I did appreciate the application of the saxophone in some of these songs, which is something I almost never say. That said, I probably won’t rush to circle back to it any time soon. I like this record, but I wouldn’t say I love it. I like the energy, but I wish there were some changes in tempo or song structure for me to really connect with it; melody is in short supply on this record. 3.4/5
A bit crazy.
I really question the selections on this list. I'm positive someone is just a big Iggy Pop / Bowie fan, and made it their mission to include everything from these two artists. This album isn't amazing, but still holds some decent tunes. And I do enjoy myself some punk. The opening track "Down on the Street" was the most enjoyable for me and will be heading to the 1001 playlist. The album, just a middle of the road 3 stars here.
British punk rock
Me gustó, pero no será mucho de The Stooges? ¿Cuántos discos ya he escuchado de ellos? 3? 4?
Pretty decent Almost tempted to give it a 2 after that last track that is just noise, but there is more than enough outside of that to lift it to a 3. Some good saxophone at some point Far too much stooge and iggy though
I mean it's alright. It's got a cool grimy sound to it that I can see would be pretty cutting edge in 1970, but it's not amazing music.
This album was 6 straight up rock and roll songs and 1 “what the hell did I just listen to”? Shout out to the Stooges drummer Scott Asheton, he should get more love in the discussion about best drummers of all time.
3.5
I like the ssxophonr quite well, but in the end not the biggest fan of this style. 3.5 stars
I am more of a Larry, Curly and Moe fan
01) Down On The Street - 7,0 02) Loose - 7,0 03) T.V. Eye - 6,0 04) Dirt - 6,5 05) 1970 - 6,0 06) Fun House - 5,5 07) L.A. Blues - 5,0 TOTAL: 6,14 (61/100) Current ranking: 444/579
Good listen. A lot cleaner than I expected From an audio perspective. Not fuzzy or distorted. Not sure why I expected that but it threw me. Enjoyed but didn’t love
Unremarkably bland and mediocre punk rock that doesn't even sound too punk
Scam or genius? I lean towards the former but many would take the latter without a doubt. James grew into the role of elder rock statesman but there’s a form of trauma porn here that might hide a certain insubstantial quality. I don’t know. 2.5
Always had a soft spot for Iggy Pop even when it’s not my kind of music.
Straight up rock. Can hear punk on the way. The last track veered off too far into atonality and lost it half a star.
Good raucous energy. I don't think the song-writing (or execution) is as amazing as some reviews suggest but it's a fun listen.
Greit nok av krokryggen, likern bedre solo
3/5
It is ok, nothing really spectacular on here. Guitar sounded pretty good. Positive is the album is short.
Seemed to be yelling at some parts of the album
meh
I like some stooges stuff but honestly this wasn’t really for me 3/5
Great production and performances. OK songs.
Kivan kuuloista niinkuin vanhempaa brittipop punkia jossa torvisoittimia ja rääkymistä
okay but not for me
Iggy's cool.
There are moments when this oozes rock’n’roll cool but there are also too many moments of just utter racket. It has a jazz feel to it in the way that a group of musicians all play in ensemble and it feels like they’re waiting for a song to emerge from it but sadly that song often never really does. I do want to like it because at times it feels raw and rough in a good way. I also want to report it to Trading Standards for the cruelly misleading title of the decidedly un-fun ‘Fun House’. Kinda made me want to put on some Madness instead.
There are three Stooges albums. They are all great. This is the least great of the three.
3/5
2.5/5 The start of the album was good, it got worse when they started screaming and putting random noises in the songs. Favourite song: - Loose
I had low expectations given other albums from these guys but this was more listenable and musical. Stand-out: Loose
that's 2 Stooges album in less than a month.... and even tough I much prefer this one. but still not really my thing, mixing-wise. fav songs : TV Eye & LA Blues (crazy sax solo) a 2,75 rounded up
Well, it wasn't bad - just a little too rough and repetitive to listen to on a regular basis.
I enjoyed this album slightly less than Raw Power. It started off strong with Down the Street, Loose, T.V. Eye but then fell off the rails (intentionally) towards the end of the album.
Liked the first half of the album more than the second half.
It was fun punky music until the last track of just awful noise. Almost brought it down to two stars, but I like the rest of album enough to keep it middle of the road.
I think I’m Iggied out! Or have I Popped. Too much feedback for my head to cope - I’ll stick with the other albums methinks. They were much better but I appreciate the vibe and the evolution.
Yes, that was a slate of Iggy Pop in a rather short burst, but I'm the happier for it. This was easily my least favorite of the three. It's cool. Noisy, The Stooges cranked out music that was a lot looser and visceral than anything on The Idiot or Lust For Life — it sounds like it needs to be experienced live. But the material is not as strong, fun as it is. Random or not, I'm glad we didn't hear these in chronological order.
This album started off strong and ended in musical gibberish towards the last track. I felt it was close to being a 4/5 but now I'm not entirely sure. However, I really loved the energy of this album (outside of "L.A. Blues").
Better than expected, but still really fucking annoying screeching guitars and monotony in the longer songs.
I was hoping to enjoy it, but I found the whole thing a fairly boring 12 bar blues rock album. It was probably mind blowing when it came out. I admit, I am too familiar with the bands that were inspired by this record, so its impact, even though I had never heard it, was blunted. Having listened to so much punk, industrial, and goth rock, these ideas don't remind me of chaos anymore. Even the dissonant saxophone being used is such old hat, that I wasn't surprised at all when it appeared.
Surprisingly good
I don't think I feel too painfully different about Fun House and it's madness from the first time I listened to it, It's a wild ride and it feels dizzying how chaotic it sounds even next to Raw Power's horrid but fitting mixing (Iggy Mix), but my issues also begin with that chaos. It becomes difficult to really trace what a song is doing or where its going because it's so loud and chaotic, they really improvise a lot of this too which only makes it wilder and perhaps more interesting than Raw Power's more streamlined songwriting. I'd think all these things would actually be what puts it as my favorite Stooges because I love chaos, I love loud, I love weird and improvised, but here it feels like too much or something that maybe I need to listen to more to really get a better sense of the songs and what they do, which I probably should because I hate to feel that I'm just locked out of something that theoretically should click with me more.
A mix of fun frantic blues-rock and slow muddy guitars. Sometimes both in the same song.
enjoyed the raw punky screaming
A bit nutty, but at all unpleasant. 3 Stars.
Alright
I can see how this inspired a lot of musicians, but it wasn't really my thing.
This was winning me over more and more, as it went along, until the sort of undeserved meltdown of feedback and drumming that it devolved into for its final minutes.
While I get hints of all the bands they influenced, this ultimately didn't really knock me sideways - but for the grungy, slower-paced 'Dirt.'
Okay. I enjoyed it when I was listening to it, but honestly I often forgot it was on as it played. 3
Good pre-punk!
det är riktigt bra emellanåt men sista låten blir man ju så less på att den är med så det blir inte mer än en trea. men gött häng och instrumentalt låter det bra och iggy stör inte så mycket som på något annat stooges album vi haft.
Definitely a sound I like. I did note that the whole album has a pretty consistent sound, so listening to it back to back feels a bit repetitive.
It
This is the third Stooges/Iggy Pop album I've listened to as part of this and none of them have really appealed to me. They're all fine, but I guess I'm not getting what makes them all must-hear albums.
Definitely quite different for the time period, as to be expected from The Stooges. Too often though the songs get pretty dry and uninteresting by the time they’re over. 5/10
Dzikie, ale przejadło się
some cool stuff, some boring stuff, mostly just alright
I kind of enjoyed this album until the L.A. Blues fingernails on a chalkboard sound ruined it. Anyway 3 stars or C+.
7/10
first listen lots of jamming and not as much songwriting
Fav song: T.V. Eye Drug fueled pure rock n roll from the end of the 1960's. Not much else to say really!
Now bring me some Iggy Pudding.
not as much fun as I had hoped, definitely not as much house
more protopunk from the physical embodiment of the movement.
3 Stars (8/15)
I’ve given the 2 other stooges albums 5/5, but this one is nowhere near as good. Doesn’t have the songs the others do. Poor choice for the list
Our house became a little more fun, but also a little noisier
Great attitude!
Some good songs but don't think it really stood out to us that much
My first Stooges record this! I bought it when someone said the band I was in sounded like The Stooges and The Doors (we didnt, sadly). Hasnt aged as well as I remembered, but I dont know whether that’s because I’ve since (through 1001) listened to more Stooges and Iggy Pop records which are all better than this and raised the bar. Still way ahead of its time and more going for it than most punk we get on this list, but not quite as good as their other stuff
If nothing else, the list has highlighted that Iggy Pop is decent, and so are the Stooges. First side of the album is much better than the second - was tempted to give a 4, but I really disliked the final track, LA Blues. Really discordant and irritating. TV Eye was my favourite song.
Line their previous album we had, this is way ahead of it's time. Thought the opening few tracks were the best. Thought this was possibly better than the last one we had, but without the hits I knew. At least 3.5
Pretty standard punk rock. Very influential for its time in the early 70s. Excellent beats. Last song is absolute mayhem. Some very cool rock tracks. Good energy. Iggy Popp.
Search & Destroy and Lust for Life are each bangers. Unfortunately, neither of them are on this album. First time I've heard most of these songs and it was fine. But nothing earth shattering.
Okay but not my favorite Stoiges songs.
Meh
Eh
So heckin' heavy. The grit, so fun! 3.8/5 for sure.
Very good and influential for 1970, but it didn't really do much for me. The last 3 or 4 songs stated to get on my nerves. Mid 3
Always thought of The Stooges as Iggy Pop’s backing band. Fun House is more great 70s rock. I don’t remember any specific songs from this album, but I remember that raw, garage sound! All songs good except LA Blues, that one’s a skipper. Album comes in at (3.4*s)
What a bunch of stooges just having some fun. 75% of this album is good...the other 25 is a raucous racket. I can understand the influence Iggy and his stooges had on future punk rock. Great guitar and drums from the Asheton Bros and Ig is a weird force on the stage. I know bands like to push the boundaries of what is considered music but cut the last song.and you got a better album...2.8.
Brit punk rock, nothing stood out.
3.8
Weird, jammy, and with quite a voice behind it. Definitely psychedelic, almost noise rock.
The first 2/3 of this album was good (I clicked it was Iggy Pop a few songs in), but I didn't like the last third where the vibe seemed to change and the energy dropped. Rating: 3
I don't hate this, but it's not something I would put on really. That said it was probably pretty important in the formation of lots of music I do really like.
This was better than I had imagined. The guitar work was cool.
This was probably awesome for its time.
Iggy pop band. I liked the saxophone on some of the tracks but overall it was alright. Lust for Life was fine but not the biggest fan of this album.
#380. OK. Fine. Alright. Acceptable. 3/5: satisfactory
I enjoyed most of this. It is lacking a song that stands out. This mostly runs all together.
Didn’t expect much but decent groove and sound to this
It's obvious from the first track that so many bands that followed them were influenced heavily by the Stooges. This album is raw and visceral. The feeling of this whole album is one of an amazing live show, where the power and emotion is front and center. 3⭐️
You can rally see the influence this had just buy hearing it. it was just ok but I appreciate what this album did and how influential it was.
raw and primal. decent album by one of the forefathers of punk.
Every song has a cool riff that they just keep repeating forever until it's boring. There's a lot of Iggy Pop on the list and this doesn't need to be there. Favorite song: Loose
2.9 1x
Listened Before? N Pretty cool listen. I like that it's raw and primal. Seems very influential to a lot of punk and punk sub-types that came after it. It's cool to hear something like this sound from so early on. I used to listen to things that sounded very much the same in the 90s thinking I was hearing originality. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Down the Street
Punkig, rockig, lärmig, lässig, rotzig, klasse.
What an epic album cover. This was a fun rock album, I'm not sure we have heard the Stooges yet. I'm not sure I'd put them on any list, but it was nice to hear what felt like some fresh rock from the day.
Another from the Stooges, it's a good one but doesn't hit the highs that their debut did for me. Favorite tracks: Down the Street, Dirt, 1970. Album art: Really love this album cover, looks like a sort-of band photo engulfed in waves of flame or something. Awesome color and text. 3.5/5
Chaotic proto-punk that kind of rocks. A little exhausting to listen to, but that is kind of the point.
Decent album but honestly sorta forgettable. The songs are generally too long on here and don't hold my attention. Still, it's Iggy and I do like Iggy. 3/5
Very suitable rocker. Could play unobtrusively in the background and you would enjoy it
You know, not bad. For something a little psychadelic I'm surprised I enjoyed some of it. Its fine, nothing too crazy, I feel if it were longer it wouldve been a slog.
If you like the Doors but hate the keyboards then you’re going to love this album!
I liked this album more than I thought I would.
Pure chaos
It has its moments. After 3 Stooges albums on this list I'd say they are pretty good but overrated. 3.5
Was decent. i liked everything up to and including 1970
I had to give this a second go. I like a lot of The Stooges other stuff, but the first encounter with this was pretty grim. It's dissonant, at times genuinely unpleasant. It does work, though - which is odd. Most bizarrely, the "jazz" bits, the ideas from which the rest of the album takes inspiration from, are the worst tracks from the album. I get wanting to do some freeform jazz when you're clearly trying to pay homage to freeform jazz - but sorry guys - you don't quite get it.
Nothing groundbreaking, but some good tunes and overall just a real house of fun.
1970 punk ?! big koodos for them putting this out in an era where more traditional rock n roll was making the $$. It's fun, it's grimy, it has a saxaphone and a trumphet, and the middle three songs are great especially Dirt. As an album though... it's fine nothing special.
Great rock album, but most of the songs were a bit too long to hold my attention. 3.5 stars
RAUUURRRRWW 🗣️ 🗣️ 🐺 🐺‼️ (From L.A Blues)
Listened to this on a plane and could barely distinguish the lo-fi fuzzed out sound from the background engine noise. Listened again on a highway in a rainstorm and it was clearer. I like the Stooges, but I don't think this is one I'll be adding to my playlist.
I'm pretty sure I listened to this to catch up the other day but I did in fact forget anything outstanding about it. I wasn't counting down for it to end so that's good.
starts good but falls down
Chose to listen to this because I want to get my average rating lower and it was only 36 mins long. But unfortunately, this exceeded my expectations so I’m not doing any real damage. It’s really a 2.5 but I’ll be generous since I’m on my second listen and not hating it.
Just doesn’t call to me. Dynamic and powerful though
Good album. Reminded me of the Doors on parts
bardzo krotki, 2 fajne, reszta troche zbyt przeszkadzajaca
This feels proto-punk and Rolling stones. Have heard of this band but not their music. It somehow feels ahead of its time for 1970. A solid 3* because I don't see myself revisiting this. The last few minutes of this album were just fucking around with instruments, should have cut the recording sooner. Highlights: down on the street
Not bad, not good.
I much preferred this to their debut.
I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would given it's proto-punk description. More musical than I was expecting. Still not my favorite, but I'm saving Down on the Street
It was ok. I didn’t really like any specific song, but the album wasn’t bad, it was short, too. 👍🏼
Initial impression was very positive, but the longer I listened it felt like The Doors imitators.
Cool to hear the wellspring of the chaotic punk sound
I love Iggy, but this one was way too much repetitive noise. Stooges have better stuff, and this was not it.
Number one on the list of bands I don't particularly like, but hugely respect/appreciate.
I liked this, in out 30 minutes, perfect time.
The album starts off really strong with down on the street and the next few are pretty good where I thought it was going to be a four but then the longer songs start coming in and it becomes much more of a chore and bore.
First time listening, wasn’t sure what to expect. Overall, it’s definitely solid rock/punk rock album. I’ll be adding this vinyl to my collection
Yet another Stooges/Iggy Pop album. Its fine.
Pretty good pre-punk album. It’s not really my thing, but there is some pretty cool stuff in here.
Fine enough
Not bad of this is your thing.
This album was cool. I did like it however there was really nothing that I loved about. Exactly what I’d expect for stooges with some nice but nothing special. The classic and itll stay that way, but it’s not what my classics.
This album was a lot like Iggy Pop: Really short.
Cool jazz rock fusion. Exciting and interesting
Gotta be in the right mood for that one. Some cool hard rock from the 70's.
some good noise
Not my favorite Stooges compilation - the first songs are a bit monotonous and the last bit is too frantic, it makes me feel edgy but in a distracted sort of mosquito buzzing around in the background anxious, not "I'm Hip" kind of edgy.
It’s ok
thought this would be awesome its kinda boring dad rock. whatever.
Long songs - ok but not the best
Energetic. No surprises there.
Another “not sure why this is on this list.” It’s not bad but it’s not good. 5/10
Good! I prefer their debut though.
I have respect for The Stooges and can get into it in the right context, but it’s not music I’ll put on for myself. I’m sure they put on a helluva show back in the day. It’s interesting how often the bass and guitars (and sometimes sax)are playing the same rhythms at the same time. It starts to feel almost like a drone. Those sax features were wild. Sounded like a human screaming. I draw the line at LA Blues though. I don’t have that kind of angst. 3.4
Favorite Tracks: Fun House Dirt 1970
It felt grungy with awesome guitars and trumpets!
do people actually like this? like, like-like? it's fine ig.
If substance abuse was a rock album. If you're looking for something primal, this is it.
Nice album unfortunately 75% of stooges songs sound like wanna be your dog to me
Liked this one. The energy of the and really comes through. 3.5/5 Might listen again
Amazingly raw and raucous. Having seen Igggy and the Stooges a few times, I can only imagine the spectacle of their early shows. This album captures that, the only downside is the last track is just trashy trash.
proto punk so lots of noise, disconnected sounds. not for everyone. personally did not enjoy but I think that could have been more mood related than anything else
I like the Stooges, and love Iggy Pop's latest stuff, but this album is OK. It has lots of energy, but the album needs some sound engineering; it sounds like it is coming from an alarm clock radio.
Cool album
Старички раздают животной энергетики. Бодро, весело, задорно. Но поставлю троечку за некий хаос в структурности альбома.
The Doors!
Not my fav but I can appreciate the music
nothing really stood out to me, sounds really quiet, wasn’t what i expected
This started strong then literally became noise
Pretty cool album with interesting instrumentals, but none of the songs really grabbed my attention in any significant way.
Repetitive, chaotic and languid at the same time. The music doesn't seem to go anywhere, its like the artists are just wallowing in the same repeated phrases. I was ready to hate on this album until I read about the cultural influences manifest in this album and the state of the band itself, "taking acid and only writing about the bad trips" as the review notes. This saved it a bit. The album captures an unpleasant, desperate feel well. I don't expect I'll listen to it again.
Don't recall this band? A cross between the Doors and the Ramones?? Just looked 'em up on Wiki and the answer is obvious.... front man is Iggy Lol. Liked the music, but not so much the vocals. Best track? Dirt. Very, very Doors and Jim Morrison A reasonable 3
Hard and chaotic rock!
Loud!
Sounds suspringly good considering the low fi recordings. But the songs aren’t as memorable.
Don't think i've ever listened to a Stooges album all the way through before. The production was pretty cool, could feel what they were going for. Never been the biggest Iggyhead either tbh.
Solidan 5/10
Love it, short album but nice fun punk energy
raw and totally 70s, this must have been a good live show
Not as good as I remembered. I recall getting this when it first came out and playing it all the time.
Wasn't my favorite, but gets a bonus point for being nice and short.
Ranked in order (according to Rateyourmusic... 7. L.A. Blues - This one is kind of like a Punk version of the Free Jazz style. 6. Down on the Street 5. Loose - I stick it deep inside. 4. 1970 3. Dirt 2. T.V. Eye 1. Fun House 3.5
More enjoyable than I thought it would be I suppose
psychedelic
Fun, somewhat innovative, but ultimately not to my taste. I found it bland musically, and boring lyrically.
