Reviews (page 6 of 8)

First half: damn this 70s punk is significantly more chill than I expected Back half: jk, found the punk

Totally different from the punk I listen to today but real interesting nonetheless I found it rather bluesy at multiple moments. You already know how I feel about those horns on fun house 🤝💦 they made me feel alright. Album covers dope. I do feel like the songs were a little long especially if it’s not really something you’re super into so full disclosure I did have to skip a few seconds every few seconds sometimes. I do like that it feels like the last three songs just lead up to this implosion of the album I can see why this has a cult following. Not sure id get this on vinyl but maybe it’d something cool for the collection and come back to maybe one day and listen to their discography. -B

Enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to. Crazy this came out the year it came out it is no surprise it has such influence on punk

i get its early punk, but i didnt hear a song i "got" more then lust for life until L.A Blues and that song clicked

Ok.. hate the last song

Always down for Stoogin’ around. Not the best but still solid

I wish I could have been around when this felt revolutionary. Love what Iggy represents, love some of his la Ter albums, but the Stooges always sound a bit basic to me, but not in as fun a way as the Sonics, Monks or Ramones. Still good though, just... I always hoped it'd blow my mind.

I feel fine, im a shaking leaf The most interesting part of this album is that it was written in 1970. Super influential in the punk rock scene or whatever, but even if it's a super influential album, that doesn't mean it gets a free pass to be mid. It has cool guitar, some good musical ideas, kinda just boring and misses the spot it tries to hit. I guess it had to walk so other bands could run. T1- Down on the street gets the playlist track.

Its alright, I think I enjoyed their slower, less manic songs better and I wished there were more of them. Reading the history of the bad was really interesting. The members seem kinda crazy, like covering themselves in peanut butter and cutting themselves with glass. Also Heroin got involved which may explain some of that. Im at 2.5 stars but I'll go for 3

Not my cup of tea but there is no such thing as bad music just different tastes.

Better then the first album

Grunge, dirty, punk. Great record with many links to bands of my generation. Short and easy listen too.

Not bad, a little too much for how early in the morning I listened to this.

A little self indulgent, but mostly fun

Pretty good, I liked the vocals and the style. Not enough for 4 stars though.

Hella noisy. Borderline chaotic. But I could hear some harmony in all that chaos.

6/10 - Album starts strong but starts to unravel through its tracks.

Some funkiness which has nice foreboding of post-punk. Iggy’s growling/yelling sometimes good, but can get a bit much.

Songs blend together. Punk version of the Doors.

First album of the 70s delightful punk and rock. Some songs were interesting but the back half got a bit repetitive and then it just devolved into noise.

The album that sits between 'The Stooges' and 'Raw Power'. It also seems to be the half way point between the two in terms of style and quality. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Down on the Street Date listened: 04/10/23

Not a huge fan of Iggy Pop and his vocals ok this album. Like some of the backing music 1970 was a tough listen, felt like too much going on.

Have managed to never listen to The Stooges before now (despite clearly being aware of the Iggy link). And .......... yeah, kinda like it. It's dirty and scuzzy and rumbles along.

Great First song, rest is meeeh

Pretty good. Short but consistent.

I can see how this is influential, but by today’s standards it’s a little boring. Hair Metal took a lot of notes from this.

The least critical of the 3 Stooges I've heard

Provides nothing new from the other inclusions. Raw rock and proto-punk.

Not a bad album, just not that different at all from all the other Stooges and Iggy Pop albums for it to be needing to be on this list 🤷🏼‍♂️

Raw and romping

Slightly odd: I wouldn't say this album was absolutely awful but I won't be racing to listen to it again and again. I loved the very heavy guitar, sucker for bands who go in that direction, but also some of the songs became a little overwhelming and confusing at times. Overall it wasn't awful and had a couple of songs I like but I wouldn't immediately listen to it again.

poggeroni

Like their first album better, too must bluesy and freakish for me.

Started strong... then got a little odd. Overall it was OK.

Our second Stooges album, but probably the worse of the two, I think? Decent energy to it in places, but most of the tracks (definitely the second half of the album) drag at least a little for me. No obviously bad songs, but no real standouts for me either - a good listen overall, but not a great one. As per the last one, influential and ahead of its time, but not one of my favourite listens on its own account. 3/5.

Wasn't a fan of "T.V. Eye", like, at all, but otherwise this was a pretty good time. Considering the vocals, I'm surprised I enjoyed it this much. Wouldn't voluntarily listen to it (especially since there is SO MUCH music out there to hear!!) but wouldn't necessarily skip it if it popped up on shuffle.

Cool garage rock Worth a listen but I’m not crazy about it, some songs were quite repetitive and overstayed their welcome a little

Just noise. Enthusiastic noise, but still.

What a phat bore. I only midly liked 1970 from the album. Iggy Pop scares me

wow that rocked! never would have sought this out on my own. obviously familiar with the name and with iggy, but honestly nothing beyond that. this freaking rocked.

Good album. Enjoyed it

It's alright, but really repetitive.

Good fun, but all rather the same. Still a decent listen though.

Fun House is the second album by American rock band the Stooges. It was initially unsuccessful commercially, but gained a cult following and is now considered an important album in the development of punk rock. The album features raw, unpredictable rock music with glimmers of jazz through the use of a saxophone. The powerful and primal sound on this album was new to critics at the time and could be confused as chaos, but then the punk genre exploded and Fun House seemed to have laid the ground work. In retrospective reviews, this album is coined as "one of the greatest rock & roll records of all time". I loved the heavy-hitting sounds on Fun House and enjoyed the chaotic nature of its music. It was nostalgic to listen to the early days of punk rock and hear how much it has developed since then. Any fans of rock or punk music should like this album.

Its what I imagine is just rock. not classic rock, not stoner rock, not punk rock, not fusion, not anything else. Just rock. which is kinda weird tbh.

Not bad. 6/10.

HL: "Fun House/L.A. Blues", "Loose", "Dirt" Alright, I won't try heroin! God! Liked it somewhat more than the Stooges' debut. The wailin' sax doesn't let up in side 2, and the noise & improv builds up to a colossal finale. All this to say I get why others love this album. March 17, 2023

Solid album. After the first two tracks...I was legit thinking its a 4 or 5 star record. Great energy. It fades a little from there but its still a good listen.

- Classic punk rock sound - SAX - Some songs were a little long - Would be a 3.5 - Favorite songs: Down on the Street, 1970, Loose

Great follow up to their first release. Reading the background on the recording process, the band made the right choice in recording their raw, live sound. Definitely a sleeper in comparison, but a great punk album. 3.5/5.

Jammy blues roc, decent but very samey

What the actual fuck, punk was invented 5 years before I thought it was. Grrrr

I can see why people like it Not my taste though For me it was Quite mid

I can definitely hear a lot of influence in the album. Got a little screamy for me towards the end and I had to shut it down.

Ok, you can shout and you got the groove, Iggy, but the songs were lost on the way.

Best: Down on the Street Worst: Dirt Pretty good but I don’t love the screaming

Could’ve done without LA Blues but fine otherwise

Stooges rock

Enjoyable enough and interesting to see where so many other bands that I listen to regularly got some of their influence, but a lot of the songs just overstayed their welcome. On more than one occasion I found myself enjoying a song, spacing out a bit, refocusing, and realizing "wait, this song is still playing". Best Tracks: Loose and L.A. Blues.

Ok back from a sabbatical. Listening through the computer. Wow the first song has 10x the listens of any other. Could be a bad sign that I found it only decent. I'm not minding this tbh. Dirt is a nice track, moody low singing kinda hits. Fun house a bit too messy for my taste, painful listen. LA blues also painful, low 3.

Like Black Sabbath, this album was before its' time. Songs were not particularly notable but are the core of punk rock

I like the first song a lot. It's got a lot of manic guitar energy, and driving jams. The middle and end felt like it dragged a bit to be honest, and was just a bit too loud and brash. (It's a really clever album cover. I had no idea about the face until I saw the deluxe album cover turned the other way around)

First song hit so hard---love the stooges. But the rest were kind of bland. You could see the wheels turning, but their next album, Raw Power, has much better songwriting. Right here its just somewhat forgettable protopunk.

Overall okay, nothing super memorable. Good in the background

Doesn't do anything for me.

I mostly really enjoyed it but it had one too many long freak out towards the end. I like Iggy but he’s got too many albums on here.

Decent proto-punk album. The A-side has the better songs, but both sides are decent overall.

Good start, but lost interest. Not the best choice for focusing on work so might listen again later.

Generic rock that is probably listened to by white guys who can't satisfy their girlfriend. This was probably great during its peak, but the type of people who listen to this in 2022 are insufferable hipsters. Drums are groovy though.

It’s an improvement on their debut (as a case in point I prefer the grungey chaos of ‘1970’ to the scuzzy ‘1969’), but I’m still not completely convinced. There’s a lot of repetition on each track, and one seventh of the album is just noise. I do get that it would’ve come into its own live ’n’ loud, and that it was probably an important hard rock/proto-punk milestone… I’ll give it a generous 3 to encourage the lads to keep making progress on their next album.

Stooges play StoogeMusic

Really strong, aggressive punk. Iggy is legendary, The Stooges are just punk masters. Loved the saxophone on the track Fun House. Great release.

Not really a punk fan...but this was better than most punk albums I've tried to listen to.

Pretty good album, band had good energy. For some reason some of the songs sounded a lot quiter than others. 7/10

This is the second studio album by The Stooges. It flopped commercially, but achieved a large cult following later on, unlike the bands debut album, and third album. Iggy Pop brings such energy both in his vocal delivery, and his stage presence. Listening to how gritty and raw this album is, it is no wonder The Stooges are credited with starting the punk rock movement of the 70's. The guitar playing is fast and sludgy, the drums are played hard, and Iggy just belts lyrics like something from another dimension. At one point, towards the end of the album, they bring in a saxophonist, who plays the living shit out of the instrument!! It is played so fast and high it almost sounds like a trumpet by times! This album has a lot of experimentation on it, which is probably why it flopped commercially. The first two songs are traditional Stooges songs, and basically the rest of the album is Iggy yelling and guitars being abused while various feedback loops are created and drums smash along in the background. All very good stuff, but not in a "radio top 40" way, more of a "I can't really play an instrument, but I can thrash on it for a long time and make it sound really cool" kinda way. Overall, an interesting album. It certainly has its place on this list, but isn't something I would necessarily gravitate to all the time. Favourite songs: Loose, Down on the Street, T.V. Eye Least favourite song: Dirt 3/5

Cool as a midpoint between classic 60s/70s rock and punk...messy but it holds your attention!

Much better than the first The Stooges album. This had some good late 60s early 70s sounds to it that were enjoyable.

Like the self-titled album, still repetitive, but in a more interesting way. I feel like the singer was just "we've got music, I'm gonna step up to the mic and we'll see what happens!"

Wow…. chill

Similar to my last Stooges album, Raw Power, I didn't think all that much of this one. It was full of manic energy and most of the songs were pretty blood pumping, but most of them also felt more like live renditions of songs, with lots of noise but not much back bone. Works in a setting where you're jamming in some sort of crowd, but not sitting and listening in an office or car, like many are when they listen. Just can't see myself choosing this over different energy filled songs when I'm in the mood.

I know they’re iconic and all. I just didn’t feel super excited about it like I thought I would. Seemed like a live show would be amazing but no song would be like YES THEYRE PLAYING BYE BYE BYE!!

Down On The Street is a great opener. Nice 36 mins run time Decent - high 3

Some alright songs here. Again I think listening through speakers and not headphones has impacted the score as Iggy sounded a bit like Vic Reeves on Shooting Stars especially in ‘Dirt’. I will deffo check out more albums by The Stooges

A fun garage rock album, but it can become a bit overwhelming. The album should be listened to when moving, either through dancing, walking, running or driving, but sitting still is doing the album a disservice. Funhouse is a protopunk album and is somewhat too much of that, but fortunately, there still is a late 60s garage rock feel.

In Carry On Again Doctor there’s a scene where Jim Dale tumbles down the stairs on a hospital trolly. The sound produced as he crashes to the floor is more nauanced, subtle and artistic than any part of the five minute mess at the end of this record. Other than that, it was an enjoyable listen. Best Track: 1970

never listened to any Stooges albums before. I liked it. Dirt is great, some sexy guitar in there.

Chaotic and brilliant.

Certainly their weakest album - pushes their sound to its limits with lots of jams, 7+ minute tracks with lots of screaming and squealing saxes. Worth a listen but do not go in expecting stuff like I Wanna Be Your Dog or No Fun!

This was an early punk album I actually somewhat enjoyed up to the very end. Initially, the vocals weren’t annoying and the production was pretty good but then it devolved into like free jazz trash at the end which came out of nowhere. So I’ll probably end up remembering this album by it’s last track more than anything tbh

Punkrock aus den 70ern. Stellenweise schon melodischer als ich erwartet hätte. Stellenweise coole Riffs. Insgesamt aber nichts was ich nochmal hören würde.

It's not "Raw Power" or "The Stooges". Soooo... Just feels like it's missing the hooks that are both of those albums. Didn't hear a song on this album that I couldn't get out of my head (like "Search and Destroy" or "I Wanna Be Your Dog"). Still, it's cool to think about this album released in the context of the time. Very original and can hear how it inspires others. Tom Morello definitely listened to "TV Eye" when working out "Sleep Now in the Fire".

Glad to continue to be introduced to more Iggy Pop/Stooges' material. Pretty wild to hear the basic elements of that which would be known as "punk" for decades. Also really cool to hear the influences of 60s garage rock and some surf rock in here, as well as Howlin' Wolf and other amazing blues musicians who were hugely important in shaping the 60s rock resurgence and British invasion.

some of these songs so smexy like dang boi 😳

I have to go back and finish listening to the album, but from the few songs I heard and hearing other albums by them, I am sure it is another punk classic.

I was really mad at my ex so this album sounded real good

This is like Rock Punk, instead of Punk Rock. I really liked it.

Good rock.

Good but forgettable.

Tony Bourdain loves the Stooges. They're good and have an edgy feel. Maybe I need to listen to it more to get what it's all about. I guess if you listen to something enough, you'll understand what it is.

It’s energetic, though I like my punk rawer and cleaner. It feels like there are leftover pieces of the late 60’s with muddy, experimental bass lines, guitar solos and a bit too much funk. Down on the street and dirt stand out.

Heard before: no Good stuff- sounds a bit dated now, but at the time probably had a big impact.

Enjoyed this one overall, but it does start to get a bit samey after a while and so I don’t really see myself revisiting it for now Great instrumentation on every track though, my favourite was the title track

Good stuff all round

Early 70s hard Rock. RATM did a cover of Down on the Streets that was a faithful recreation of the original on this album. Overall it was a decent album

Fun album

classic

No too big of a fan, but not bad

Loud and rowdy - good fun but gets self indulgent. This is a band making a noise for themselves, not for others. Could have done with a couple more tracks and getting into a bit more light and shade.

3.3 - good album filled with raw energy, but listened to it 3 times and it never really pulled me all the way in.

Now imagine that when people from the audience would throw a bottle on stage, Iggy Pop would roll over the broken glass...

It was an okay background listen

Well he sure sounds like he is having fun. I imaging after a few JD & Coke (both kinds) this would be an awesome evening in some bar in Middle America. Unfortunately (in every sense of the word) I'm not, and listening to this on headphones while at work - so it gets a bit hard after a while. Crazy stuff - but some of the songs got skipped

I like the occasional dose of Iggy Pop, but I'm not one for a whole album's worth. I found myself wanting to listen to The Doors after this one - a few toe tappers, but not one for me. Solid 3

Can see the foundations of later, more polished, California rock. Iggy and the Stooges got there first

Interesting early punk / raw sound. I find the production to be very interesting - if you listen to track 4, "Dirt", and then track 5 "1970", there is a huge volume discrepancy between the two tracks. I suspect a different fidelity level too- "Dirt" sounds wider, with instruments panned out further into the L and R ears, and 1970 to be generally less stereo. "LA Blues" is very cool and wild with saxophones - it almost feels like a John Zorn piece in some areas.

The Stooges are ok and this is an alright listen. As a huge punk fan this doesn't do much for me.

Rocky and raw

Pretty good album

It's was okay

I've never been an Iggy Pop fan, but his raw energy on this album is undeniable. I'm sure this record sounded completely radical when it came out in 1970. Without a doubt, this had to have been a favorite of the early punk bands, but I think the Stooges must have liked early heavy metal/hard rock. That seems to come through, especially in some of the guitar solos. Overall, I liked this one.

Get alveg hlustað... (kannski ekki mesta hrósið).

Not the best of Iggy and The Stooges really but a proto-punk classic all the same. I like "Down On The Street" "T.V. Eye" and "Fun House" but I prefer to here them live!

I prefer the filthy-garage blues sounds of the bulk of Fun House to many a genre, but with Pop's totally American affect the music becomes almost pure affect. I think he's best when balanced against a Bowie or the Underworld duo, in the case of that EP I kept reflecting on as I listened this afternoon.

proto punk yes

No offense to Iggy but this wasn't my favorite of the bunch.

I get the feeling this might have a bit of the Seinfeld effect. Maybe it was very influential but to me right now it sounds generic as hell. Not bad, just aggressively standard.

It feels like an incomplete demo. The roots of something interesting are here. Best track: Down on the Street

This was ok...I likely will never listen to it again. :)

Mon premier stooges!

Great album for 1970, but I'm not the biggest fan of the band or Iggy Pop.

I've heard a bunch of The Stooges songs over the last little while with all the early punk bands on the 1,001 list. They are a band that I have come to realize are better than I originally thought. Yeah, the album is a little raw and has a bit of a Velvet Underground feel (too much imitation?) and it has some annoying screaming (from Iggy) that gets emulated in other acts (Suicide). But the energy is awesome. I really like the first three tracks - Down on the Street, Loose, and TV Eye. After that it starts to lose focus - Dirt is a bit too psychedelic (and long) for me. 1970 is also too drawn out, though the sax starts to get some more prominence and it's not bad/adds a nice twist. LA Blues is just a mess (borderline terrible). First three tracks are a definite 4 but the rest is at best a 3 (unnecessary decadence).

Proto-punk, which made me wonder what the first punk album was. The Kinks were clearly ahead of their time in the 60s. I noted in my review of Here Are The Sonics (1965) that they were proto-punk. Some articles suggest Louie Louie was the first punk song - don't know if I see that connection as clearly as the Kinks and the Sonics. Anyway, this is clearly one of the major punk precursors. I liked the first four tracks a lot (Side 1 on the original album). Cool stuff. Side two is a little tougher to deal with. 1970 is decent but gets a little crazy in the second half. Fun House is also good for about the first half before it starts to get out of control. L.A. Blues is pure crap. The first time I listened I even skipped over most of L.A. Blues, which is saying something since up until that point I listened to every album I've reviewed in its entirety (120 reviews to date). On my third listen, I managed to sit through the whole track because I want to be able to claim I've listened to 100% of the 1001 albums. But this was barely listenable and that's an automatic 1 point reduction for me. If the album was just the first 4 tracks I'd give it a 5. Add 1970 and Fun House and we're down to a 4. L.A. Blues brings it down to a 3. There's punk and there's crap. This album started punk and descended into crap.

I could go three for the music plug hand +2 for the energy level but I think I’ve previously given him enough pluses for energy

Enjoyed this, proper sleazy, avant garde rock

Not a lot for me to say about this album. Some good punk rock, but that's about all it was for me.

mta baruierra

Not my style

I like the brooder/slow-burner tracks (e.g., "Dirt") more than the rippers (e.g., "Down on the Street") and those that devolve into Iggy howling. Interplay of fiercely played instruments (e.g., late in "Fun House") alternates between punishingly discordant and beautifully anarchic.

yeah decent cool and fun but wasn’t that special

Unexpectedly good. Early punk rock. Songs are much longer than modern punk. Great musicianship. Little too much screaming so I did not finish the last 2 tracks.

It was alright, I was probably too sober to appreciate it. Very raw, almost like a jamming session. Guess it was cutting-edge in 1970. Would have been great to see them perform live.

Fun stuff, lots of Stooges on the list so far and my opinion on all of it is much the same

Classic but I need to be in the mood

A hard listen. Of its time. Clearly a corruption of pop rock and dissatisfaction with contemporary rock. Necessary. Iggy Pop went on to define a change. Here are his roots.

I enjoyed, but got quite samey after a while

raw rock and roll but in a good way some of the guitar licks are especially good

Not for me but the music is good.

So grimy and gritty. And sounds so much unlike 1970.

art punk rock outs

First time I've ever listened to the Stooges. Kinda dig it. Don't love it. Prolly wouldn't seek out a second album. But didn't hate this.

Pretty good, pretty generic, nothing outstanding

noisy and difficult to listen to, good energy though. 5/10

Leuk, 70 rock

The vocals are just not for me. And that’s a shame because the music is quite pleasant to listen to.

'Funhouse' is linear, crunchy, and high-octane even on the latter half of the album. A loose approach to the overall production, the 1970s album is charged with a base of inspirations for many rock albums succeeding it. However, the glaring uniformity creates an underlying sense of creative bottlenecking - loud but not immediately memorable, and for the most part delivers predictable tracks.

I like the energy, but the horns and screaming are annoying.

Okay, in a pretty aggressive sort of way I guess

fun one without pretentions, this list has made me more fond of the stooges

Giving it a three for Loose and for it’s huge significance on so much that comes after it.

I like this one more than the last Stooges album.

3/5 there are some interesting stuff here, but...

My first real dive into the stooges. I enjoyed it. It was catchy and very punk rock!

Funny, I should not like it. But I do. Had it not been for the last song, it would have been a four.

Some dark, contemplative rock on this one - the longer, trying, experimental back-end is balanced out by some concise bangers on the first half.

Great rock album with some lesser known hits. The Stooges now on my radar.

Not as good as Iggy's solo stuff. Some highlights but a bit meandering and dull.

Not sure I found much fun - he’s much better than this - nothing to dislike but very little to love

This album sounds like what I imagine being on heroin feels like. Lotta wild shit going on. I kinda like how it gets more and more chaotic as it goes on.

meh. did these guys pioneer cringe edgy lyrics lol. 'i'll stick it deep inside cause i'm loose' huh. i liked 'tv eye', though it made little sense to me. fourth track is okay as well, it's just the first two tracks i wasn't into, either that or i got into this record as it went, so i'll give this another listen to reevaluate. it's a short album anyway. i'm having so much fun now. i feel like this could very easily be grating but it's not annoying at all to me even with all the repetition and the screaming. i'm just in the perfect mood for it apparently. 3.5.

Ganz cool!

I could almost not believe Funhouse was released 50+ years ago, in 1970. The instrumentals are extremely tight and impressive, though T.V. Eye, 1970, and Fun House sound like they are stuck at half volume. It's a shame, because I especially enjoy the jazz elements on 1970. Besides the demonic screaming, wolfish howling and "umphs" sung by Iggy, there are enough juicy guitar riffs to appreciate. 3/5.

okay lang. easy on the ear but not really compelling.

I like the first half but the songs get too long and chaotic as the album goes on, which I think is by design as part of an avant-garde style, but it’s just not for me. L.A. Blues is pretty much unlistenable. My favorite tracks are “Down On The Street” and “Loose”.

Didn’t mind it. Lotta cool sax

Down on the Street walked so Enter Sandman could run.

Who remembers fun house? Mullets and twins is literally the best combination ever. It was a whole Lot of fun with prizes to be won! Those twins loved a bit of Beadle hand magic

Started off strong, then just got annoying

Much more listenable than I had anticipated

can't decide if its better than raw power. lost its way a bit towards the end, was a bit too stressful to work too.

Not that much interesting.

This isn't as great as some of The Stooges albums this list has shown me before, but it still rocks, and still doesn't sound at all outdated despite being older than I am.

good jams. Iggy Pop lead singer! Early punk I suppose, but not as raucous as Sex Pistols.

I enjoyed this much more than I would have thought ! ***

A bit shouty for me but I could happily listen and tap my knees Along given the right circumstances. Since it was only an aperitif of an album at only 7 songs I had a double helping. However the second time was much the same as the first.

solid 3, wouldn't relisten

Yeah OK.

Ñee, didn't really enjoyed listening to it, but I didn't hate it

Solid harder rocking. Probably a 2.5 but im feeling generous

Están bien Down on the street, Loose o T.V. Eye.

I can totally imagine how powerful this would've sounded back in 1970. It sounds powerful and loud even today, so guess this was super heavy back in the day. Good, primal garage rock.

Well, I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I listened to it in the car with Luke and he was telling me how much he likes each song and all about it, which perhaps enhanced the experience. Apparently the classic Iggy Pop album. It was fun driving music I guess, but unlikely to listen again independently

This was interesting, there were some parts that I could get into but overall I wasn’t a huge fan.

I liked it. It's like you took some of the grit from Rolling Stones and made an album just from that. Good times.

Iggy fazendo o q o Iggy faz. Tem seu charme, mas não me convenceu.

This was enjoyable, if not a bit samey throughout. I prefer Iggy Pop's solo stuff - well Lust for Life.

Ihan kivasti soiva levy

decent

Hauska ja kompakti, meneviä biisejä

Grungy, pretty good 6/10

I guess these songs aren't from a room. They're from a Fun House. Well, I can see why people would like this album. It seems "good" within the genre of songs with guitars. Sounds a little bit 60s to me. But I have no interest in it personally. Wait, hold the phone. I have one interest in it personally! I only know 'Dirt' as a Depeche Mode song, but apparently it's a cover! I like Depeche Mode but that was always one of my least favorite songs of theirs, ha. Now I understand why. However, on this album it is definitely the - Highlight: 'Dirt' Huh, how 'bout that: Apparently, CBS reality journo Dalton Ross reviewed The Stooges' 2007 album for EW. He gave it a B, saying that it wasn't as good as this album. Unfortunately, he also said that the lead singer covered himself with peanut butter one time. That's 2 behavior.

1.6/5 Maybe if I was around when this album came out I'd like it more but there wasn't anything special about this. The music was good but nothing spectacular

I thought I might like this one more than I did.

4/10 If this was a meal, the starters were excellent - 2 plates of exquisite proto-punk. The main course, tracks 3-5, were disappointing after the great entrées, but palatable. Dessert was a melted Vienetta, and finally the chef sent a plate of his own vomit. Absolute garbage

This was less than impressive. Thought I might know a song or two, but nope.

It was fine until L.A. Blues. The best song was Dirt.

Started off fine but lost interest as it went on. Not great not terrible.

★★½

Nah, garbage punk shite

This album made 36 minutes feel like an hour.

I made it through the whole album but I didn’t enjoy it.

Ei kyl lähteny, vähän jopa punkin vibaa mut ei vaan lähteny

I'm sure I should like this but I find Iggy Pop deeply irritating. A 2 for the "I'm glad it exists but don't want to revisit"

Kinda sounds like the Doors, if The Doors were mediocre musicians with a shitty lead singer. I think we've heard enough Iggy Pop-related music to have moved past the "must-listen" material. Either you like it or you don't. I just plain don't.

rocanroll, pesadito, divertido hasta cierto punto jaja. 3 temas y ya estas medio quemado. Son buenos igual. No me interpeló

Production on this wasn’t very nice

Really don’t get the stooges hype Got through most of this thinking it was kinda iight but the last track is crazy bad 2.5

Feels incredibly dated now, but even with historical context it's not essential listening.

average ahh

Finally, the last Stooges album for me. I see that they were some kind of starting point for the whole punk movement, but the production and Pop himself just don't do anything for me.

dry sounds. not something I'd listen to but it's fair.

Very repedetive ..

ni muy muy ni tan tan

70er Rock mit Punk-Psychedelic Elementen. Mir etwas zu chaotisch. 2/5

+1 for 1970. Otherwise, sounds like what I would expect of an "early blueprint for punk", but doesn't even do that very well

hadn’t heard of this band! Iggy pop is always a character to listen to though. definitely liked the first half better then the second, gore metal is a bit intense when trying to do yoga 😅

quite boring. lots of bands took inspiration from this because they knew they could make better music than the stooges.

Early punk rock band that I know had an impact on many many later punk bands and you can certainly hear it in this album. Its not my favorite genre but as with others on this list I can see why its included and what cultural significance it has had even if its not for me.

Meh. Nothing I haven't heard a dozen times before on this list, and I wasn't impressed the first time around.

Did not enjoy. Got the feeling of a whole lot of pent up anger

One song for 36 minutes, ugh

I wish we had gotten this before Raw Power. There were a few songs I enjoyed, but to me it sounded like a more underdeveloped version of Raw Power, so the timing definitely dings a star or two.

So far, quite underwhelming and lacking in harmony. I can feel how off the instrumentation is in every song. Iggy's voice can't keep distracting me for long. I can tell The Stooges are having plenty of fun, so I can give them props for that: they're doing what a punk band should be doing, which is producing rebellious music with little skill. Somehow, it sound like music. In my opinion, most punk rock is awful, but I acknowledge that actual musicians sometimes produce punk rock. However, it seems like a mix of punk musicians and punk wannabes play these songs, so it gets a 3-star. Edit: where in the hell did that saxophone come from? If my opinions weren't confirmed beforehand, the saxophone committing violence. Lowered to two stars.

Too ugly punk.

I'm sure this album/band influenced many of the artists I love today. But this album was very abstract and kinda rough to listen to

very influential but also very ear piercing

At least it was thirty minutes!

The only compliment imma give to the stooges is a tweet I saw where the OP was like “the stooges were the OG geese” and yea I kinda see that even though I don’t like this but I enjoy Geese haha

It's Iggy Pop, it has a real raw sound, but my goodness, was it repetitive. I'm just not really a big fan of this loud screaming raw sound that they have going.

I don't quite understand the appeal of this. The first couple of songs were okay, but then by the end it was just grating to listen to.

I went from feeling incredibly neutral on this album to praying for it to end by the time I got to Fun House. Someone send help please

It's okay.... he's loose... good to know, I guess. T.V. eye is pretty good. It reminds me a little bit of Sonic Youth's more energetic stuff. And don't come at me, I know Sonic Youth was started after The Stooges were a thing, so if anything THEIR music sounds like The Stooges rather than the other way around. I just like Sonic Youth a lot and a great deal more than I like The Stooges. Maybe I just can't get the image out of head of Iggy Pop rolling around on glass. I looked at the Wikipedia and it said he used to perform acts of self-mutilation on stage and that in itself was terrifying, but yes, apparently he used to roll around in glass! Maybe it was the adrenaline from being on stage or something. No amount of adrenaline could convince me to do that though. Anyways it just makes me feel nasty. I like "Dirt" as well. I like dirt? Well I like dirt I like dirt. I like the bass line and I don't care it basically continues through the entire track being practically the same, but imagine that bassist... Oh I forgot to mention this at the beginning when I meant to, but the cover is SICK! I love love love it. It's so yummy.

36 minutes of noisy chaos

This probably had a helping hand in the emergence of punk rock, so it's appreciated. Sadly, it didn't really do much for me. It's fine but just not something I would voluntarily listen to.

need more 2s in my distribution and this is a solid fit

Too much for me

Did not enjoy. A lot of guitar solos and vague lyrics on top.

not my style

Somewhat disjointed and immature. Only hints of the sharpness of the first record, and none of the Raw Power they would show soon.

Just not my thing.

Dirt is the most interesting track here.

After seeing Iggy Pop supporting Foo Fighters a number of years ago and shoot straight to number 1 on my list of 'worst support acts ever', I've always had an irrational dislike of him and this album doesn't do anything to change my opinion. Musically quite a good album, but Mr Pops vocals and random screams/shouts ruins the record for me.

The vocal delivery on the songs became grating very quickly on most songs. Most tracks weren’t very stimulating other than Dirt and Fun House which had some interesting moments

So much woodwind abuse

I get why the other two Stooges albums are on here. Don’t think we needed this one.

*1970. 2nd album. *Iggy Pop's voice is so distracting and unpleasant that I'm not sure how to rate the music. I think if someone covered this album, it might be pretty nice, but it's hard to say. RATING - 4/10
