While not as powerful as '21', this is still a perfect example of Adele's power and appeal.

Just go listen to reharmonized jazz fusion cover of "Hello" by Adam Neely. It's really great, while this album is a waste of time.

Kann man leider nicht haten, krasse Stimme. Die Hits sind zurecht Hits und auch die anderen Songs sind gut. Wahnsimms Stimme, auch wenn es relativ eintönig und alles Herzschmerz Songs sind.

Great voice, obviously, and I liked a couple songs in the middle. Less successful than 21 for me: a lot of the songwriting/lyrics feel a bit too heart-on-the-sleeve, all text and no subtext, but hey, it wasn't written for me, it's her thing, and good for her.

i find this one more musically interesting and mature than her others.

This was interesting because I think this was the first "Pop" artist album I've had come up for this project. I was interested to listen to the full album because I was only familiar with Hello and Send My Love. Adele undeniably has an incredible voice and the album is very well produced. Her songs have passion and drama, and this album (as with any of her albums) are a great fit if you're in a melancholy-romantic mood. Would listen again and made me curious to listen to 30.

I've always loved Adele's voice but her music never really did it for me. "Hello" was vastly overplayed and over-memed and I just can't take it seriously anymore. Water under the bridge is probably my favorite on this album, but overall I can take or leave this

I have to confess I really like Adele, but I can’t listen to a whole album in one sitting. 25 consists of many depressing songs and there at the end Sweetest Devotion pops up full of hope and happiness Her voice is amazing and I find its power unbelievable. I like it quite a lot. There's a lot of heartfelt songs and with some simple, yet fitting instrumentation

“Hello” is such a good song. “Send My Love” is garbage. Her talents make up for parts of the album that aren’t great or drag on.

Technically Adele has a gorgeous voice and well made music, I just can't get into her tunes at all.

This was listened to while making the drive to my sister's at 5am. I was fine with the slower songs. Everything else gave the impression of those local ads you see playing before the movie previews... Especially if you were to take away the vocals. It is endlessly annoying to me to hear several songs of a 25 year old talking about when she was young... You are 25. Come on now.

Really nice listen. Adele has a remarkable voice and it’s just a pleasure the ears. Some catchy melodies too. Not the genre I’m typically drawn too, but in all honesty I just like this record.

182/1089 - Damn, I really hate her voice. Sounds like a woman version of Eddie Vedder. Not as bad as Kendrick Lamar or Ian Curtis I guess but that's not exactly a high bar. The instrumental is boring and lifeless relying too much on long pads with no real rhythmic variation or humanization of the sampled percussion. I think it sounds good in DAW music to slightly vary the velocities of the drums in a lot of music (not to mention the beat). If you don't do that then it sounds like I'm listening to some baby Nintendo MIDI or youtuber FL-studio-slop. Non-list rec. Mockroot - Tigran Hamasyan (2015) Really cool modern jazz pianist with a very unique rhythmic language.

I just straight up didn’t listen to this album

There's more variety here than the piano ballad "Hello" would initially lead you to expect. The next track does kind of an alt pop thing (though even that sounds pretty much like any other alt pop you'd hear on the radio), and there are a couple other left turns throughout. But there are still a lot of piano ballads with dramatic vocals. It wouldn't be such a drag if Adele didn't seem allergic to injecting any kind of personal touch to her lyrics. Everything is vague concepts and ideas, no specific details of break-ups or love, which is universal yes but also uninspired. The vocals? They're good, if a little overdone at times, but they don't make the music more compelling.

Lovely instrumental break on Remedy and Love In The Dark. The best song was definitely Water Under The Bridge. That should have been the smash hit. When We Were Young would take my 2nd place. I felt 21 was a stronger album.

Solid vocalist, but not my favorite genre.

I sort of knew it would just be very similar to the last one and that's pretty much true, you can tell that half the songs were just trying to be catchy pop songs of the era, with the trap beats and cheesy group backing vocals and chants. I think I just like the more down-to earth more stripped back songs, where the verses feel quite personal. I like Hello more than I thought I did, it feels quite down to Earth. The photograph you in this light part always strikes a weird emotional chord in me for some reason, ever since I heard it first many years ago. Probably this is actually on par if not a bit worse tham the 21 album. Favourite songs: Hello, when we were young, million years ago. Overall around 6/10

I really want to rate this higher to show appreciation for Adele's exceptional voice, but the formulaic adult contemporary vibe is not for me - though I'm pretty sure I'm the target audience for this kind of thing!

The album was good, but I did not resonate with it as much as "21". "Hello" was probably the most played song in 2015, and I liked "Water under the bridge" and "Love in the Dark". However, I don't find myself going back to this album much.

Quite like Adele.

I like Adele. I said it on the Smokey Robinson album earlier, but between Adele and Amy Winehouse, I feel like they took the dusky soul singer sound Robinson started and perfected it. Or, at least took it up a notch. I think a lot of people take her down a peg because of her non-musical career, but when this album came out it was awesome. A lot of people lose sight of that, or they say she only does one type of song, or it's music for moms and breakups. Whatever. She has he thing and does it really well.

Everyone who I’ve ever said “I hate Adele’s voice” to thinks I’m just being a contrarian douche hater. As if “good vocals” are some objective truth. To my ears & my subjective taste, I can’t stand Adele. It’s nothing against the songwriting (which I find is a little bland at moments that is clearly bolstered by her voice). Was hoping to find something interesting this time around but when Water Under the Bridge plays I just can’t do it. This album was everywhere in 2015 & I don’t wanna go back. That said, at least enduring the whole album led to Sweetest Devotion, which I thought was kinda okay.

Its an ok album with a couple of good songs.

Intense cover photo. Overall not as strong as the album she released immediately before, with Rumor Has It and Rollin In The Deep and generally a cool throwback vibe a la Amy Winehouse with shades of Dusty Springfield and Lesley Gore. This album is less stylized and more generic sounding. And how many breakups does it take to write an album's worth of her tunes? And I can't pretend to hear Hello objectively, after my youngest became obsessed with it. But I respect her musicianship and I bet we can all agree that as a singer Adele has some serious pipes!

Although I know we've already gotten Adele's debut album, and I generally wish most artists only get one album in the collection (to make room for others), I'm happy to get another chapter of her journey singing through heartbreak and seemingly wearing her heart on her sleeve, but also happy to hear her exploring beyond that range in her lyrics (and music). I'm never quite sure why I have a soft spot for Adele, and not for other similar anguished/emotional singers in this collection like Tori Amos, Alanis Morisette, etc. but I do. I'm impressed at how many songs I recognized from this album through various airplay services (radio, Pandora, etc.); my favorites are her singles "Hello", "Send my love" (both with decent videos), "When we were young", and "Water under the bridge", as well as "River Lea". And a thank-you to Adele and this album for singlehandedly reviving the idea and popularity of the album format in 2015--it's kind of hard to imagine how *any* album could have sold 3.38 million copies in the US in the first week it was released.

Hello is a good song, but the rest wasn't quite up to it-- a little too much of her making a big deal, vocally, with lyrics that weren't all that interesting.

Boring, anodyne shite. I'm turning 25 this month and I sympathise with the sentiments of feeling older though. If that makes you feel ancient, good. Fuck you, old cunts.

I have avoided this album because that Hello song was played *EVERYWHERE* and I hated it, but actually, you dive further into the album and it's just more of the same. Which is good, if you're in the mood for something sung beautifully but without much challenge. I enjoyed this.

Ze heeft een geweldige stem, maar daar is alles ook mee gezegd. De leukste delen vind ik de wat meer intiemere momenten waarbij het niet lijkt alsof ze iedereen in de zaal probeert te bereiken.

Seventy-eight albums in and this is the first repeat artist. I knew this would happen, but I thought it would be the Beatles, Bowie, or Pink Floyd. Another reviewer noted this album is off the list which I will take for granted as I want what comes up to be surprises. First off, 25yo don't get to credibly sing about when they were young. Second, the production is overly bombastic too often and starts to all sound the same. Third, Adele has a great voice but she oversings so much. A light touch and dash of artistry goes so far with her. "Hello" and "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" are the best songs where her talent is better harnessed and the production matches her vocal strength without over doing it. On lesser songs, it's all too much.

My wife tells me Beyoncé got robbed of a Grammy because of this one and after 30 seconds of hearing Lemonade I agreed. The uber seriousness of this album made it all feel one note and flat. Obviously unbelievable singer, but basically everything else sucked. Two songs were good. The piano sound throughout sounded like shit. 2 stars and an extra for the pipes.

Damn, I guess I like Adele? What happens now? She’s got the best voice of anyone going right now. That ‘hello from the other side’ chorus always gives me chills, and I didn’t realize how many of these I knew and already kinda liked, despite never having consciously chosen to listen to Adele. Would love to hear her do a rock album, as I think she could be even better if she exchanged some of her melodramatic/maudlin sensibilities for a more playful and fun edge. But that’s just my taste - Adele rocks.

Adele… Adele… Listen to me... youre ONLY 25 All the themes here are very mid life. From a dudes perspective, I dont hear many 25 year olds openly say “we were sad of getting older, made us restless” or “life was a party to be thrown, but that was a million years ago” and be super nostalgic for things that were maybe 2 years ago. Perhaps the “young mother” perspective is what is new to me here, but damn, Adele, you gotta take deep inhale. Youve got 10 more years before you can respectably start to feel that way. Production wise, its super clear that is album is on another level. All the vocal tracks are so damn clear and tasteful with even modest quality headphones. Definitely experienced a few jaw droppers during Send My Love and Water Under The Bridge while trying to focus in on the chorus vocals. All the (rather simple) instruments and Adeles voice are balanced together so well. 10/10, chefs kiss

One of the most beautiful voices of our time, big regrets not catching her on that Vegas residency. Don’t love every song on this album, takes a dip in the middle, but the hits are aplenty - Water Under the Bridge my favorite this time through - and Sweetest Devotion is a new like for me.

Once again, you couldn't avoid Adele around this time. The single "Hello" led the way and was everywhere in 2015-2016, along with most of the rest of this album. Now a new mother and a little older, Adele gets reflective here and pines for the days of old and feeling nostalgic (like many do, but at 25?) whilst accepting her place in adulthood. This album is described as a "make-up record" when comparing to her previous work, which isn't totally inaccurate, but there are still quite a few love ballads found within as well. Adele certainly has the vocal talent for these slower songs and I will always be in awe of said talent, but I was hoping for a tad more variety here. Still, it's well-produced as per usual, but I can see/hear why many would think that this album is "too safe" though.

She has an amazing voice--obviously--and some of the songs swing for the fences, but I found the album pretty meh. All same tempo, by and large the same kind of big voiced a.m. radio ballads, all of them about lost love long ago, and nary a whisper of wit, humour, complexity--a lot of general platitudinous stuff. Blah. Great vocalist but I wonder if she's a great singer. That said, I mean, if you are coming to Adele, you are coming for amazing vocals about lost love long ago, so....

I wish I liked this more, but there were some highlights and overall it was enjoyable.

I am beginning to worry that you all must think I live in a cave but I have never heard an Adele song before. Seeing that "Hello" has 3.4B plays on YouTube Music, I think you are right. Know that at least Adele doesn't live in here with me. I tried to listen and got through the first 5 or 6 six songs without skipping but then I think I reached my limit and I skipped through the rest. I didn't care for this at all, it's just not interesting musically or lyrically and a little bit of her voice goes a really long way. One of the first two or three songs reminded me so much of something else and it took almost the whole thing to catch it but it's something from Taylor Swift's 1989 - or at least the Ryan Adams version I am familiar with. I was going to go through and figure it out but I really didn't want to listen to the Adele song again to try and identify which song it was. Besides, I don't really care that much. I put on Beck's Morning Phase right after this (to clear the Adele out of my ears) and noticed that the song with the highest plays from it has 8.6M plays - it's a strange and cruel world, I just don't listen to music like most other people do I guess.

I'm sorry it just reeks of Top 40 :( It is very sad girl but not in a way that makes sense. Like it is like "what is wrong with me" when you're just a 25-year-old woman.

I don't know, I just love Adele. It's some weird nostalgia to me. Some of her best songs are on this album - I love Million Years Ago (underrated!), When We Were Young, Send My Love (TYNL) Water Under The Bridge... Grammy-winning, important album to me. So yeah, 5 stars.

Even her overplayed songs are beautiful (which is why I can be biased while listening to "recent" albums, bc... they're literally playing on the radio rn), and her voice is just angelic. Incredible break-up album right here. also, giggled my way through the entire 3min of Water Under The Bridge bc I kept thinking of that one Megan Thee Stallion dancing meme

Although Adele is far from my favorite artist, this album was acceptable and fairly easy listening. Nothing offensive, but nothing memorable either.

HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIDE (of a bunch of half-century-old albums)! Although this extremely recent album is, er, 10 years old now. Hm. I do like all songs called 'Hello', and Adele's is no exception. 'Send My Love (To Your New Lover)' is also good. 'When We Were Young' is decent. 'Water Under the Bridge' is decent. She picked the right singles. But they're all a little bit the same vibe. Maybe Adele's not for me. She's fine. A good singer, obviously. I wish that one song were called "Riverly" instead of River Lea (which is giving Family Stone!!!). I don't hate any of these songs, but I don't think I would listen to this again. So much for modernity.

Pain. Sadness. Loneliness. Heartbreak I really think "When We Were Young and Love in the Dark" are well written songs....the rest of the album is kind of boring to me (same song different verse). Adele has an amazing voice though. I wish I could give this a 3.5. I'm not sure it deserves the 4 I will be giving it.

I hate pop music -- this album did not help. I kind of wish "30" was on this list instead, as I've been wanting to listen to that one and even a few quick samples immediately demonstrate significantly more interesting and complex musical choices. "25" is loaded with the simplest chord changes imaginable, and easy, boring lyricism. There are a couple hits here, and Adele's voice is unmistakably fantastic, but this album is a perfect example of why I can never seem to get into pop: it's homogenous, it's risk-averse, and it's just plain uninteresting. Fave songs: - Sweetest Devotion - that's it

I enjoyed this Album, it has a great mix of slow and up-tempo ballads. The lyrics and musicality are amazing and Adele’s voice is marvellous.

Boy oh boy are these ever a lot of songs about feelings. I've killed all those so this does nothing for me. She only has one song I fuck with, and it's not on this album.

Someone should teach Adele how to say “Hello”. Adele is the kind of artist that I could see all of her songs having alternate stage performed interpret dancing routines music videos for. The first half of the album is all the huge hits which is weird because I feel like all her songs are structured exactly the same. Honestly maybe it came down to Adele fans not having the attention span to make it to the second half because they are same as the first half. Similar to the other Adele album the background music takes a backseat to her singing which works as she does have a very strong voice. I don’t know if I said this before but she is like Amy Whinehouse without the overdosing and a bit less raspy crying. 8/10

Oh adele the woman that you are When I was in middle school, I was at a cheer competition and there was a scoring delay so they had a talent show. Each team had to send one girl to compete and I was voluntold to go up and I sang the chorus of Hello (it was Fall 2015 so of course I did). Then 2 turns later, this girl from Exeter same the same song😭 anyway I won the talent show and my team won the competition💆🏻‍♀️ Anyway, I think people are haters and this album is great. This is the first time I intentionally listened to the whole thing and I too am going through a breakup in my 20s so I just appreciated it a little bit more. Awesome vocalist and it makes me kinda sad that she doesn't do too much vocally but it's still good!

Enjoyed this a lot more than expected because I thought I’d tune out quickly - refreshing to hear a record full of someone taking accountability for apparently being a selfish jerk in their youth 😂 it’s timeless as we discussed in the group chat and “River Lea” particularly stood out to me, I hadn’t heard that one before

Like I said previously for 21: melancholic but safe pop music with a veneer of soulfulness which... I mean there's nothing wrong with it but I can't begin to care for it, much less when most of the hits from this album I either find dull ("Hello"), annoying ("Send My Love (To Your New Lover)") or sound like it will sell me a laptop ("Water Under the Bridge"). Adele's be a good singer and artist but that doesn't equate her making music I care for

This album did not hit as hard as the first Adele album I got. Everything was either trying to be too poppy or it just fealt flat.

This is a great album. From the melancholy yearning straight in the damn right defiance of send my love this is a tour de force. Adele delivers every line with such controlled power you have to pay attention.

Adele is someone who can be a bit hit and miss for me (in terms of her music, not her as a person - I’d very much like to be friends with her). The standout for me on this album has always been “River Lea”, and listening to it again just reminds me how much I love it. Whilst there are some misses on this album for my personal taste, even they are clearly well-crafted, well-written tracks that show just what a talent she is.

I find it really hard to have an opinion about Adele's music. She has an astonishing voice and based on the odd video I've seen of her, she seems like a brilliant person who I'd very much like to be friends with. I just don't find her songs very interesting. I liked the piano that's on a few of the tracks. The songs were all perfectly lovely just not my thing. 3/5

She is an incredible vocalist. Not sure when I would listen to this though. I would enjoy her using her vocal skills for other genres or productions, otherwise it gets tiring and boring.

Adele has such a powerful voice, but all these songs just grate on me. Every song sounds like the last one. Boring. On this album it sounds like she is trying to chase something from the past. Sometimes the past is best left there. Time to move on and create something exciting and new. The subject matter of the songs are all around heartbreak. Suicide music. Give it a rest. Is it pretentious to just put her mug on the cover, is this expecting everyone will recognise her and not need her name or the albums. She is good, but overrated, and this album proves that.

She's got a stunning voice, but I couldn't get through most of those songs. Too bad such a talent is wasted on generic sad girl pop.

To be honest I found this album pretty boring. Aside from the last song, many of the songs sound the same and seem to hit the same note over and over. I get why this is ‘good’ but it is just not for me.

If this is on here I’m just going to assume 21 is also here because that one is better. Honestly Adele should be included, but I’m not sure two albums is necessary. This is a good album. Targetcore at its finest. Her voice is really great. The second half is not quite as good as the first. Favorite songs were Hello, Send My Love, When We Were Young, and River Lea.

I enjoyed the first few tracks but after I Miss You it settled into a series of formulaic ballads. It's not bad per se, just a bit predictable.

But to be completely honest, it really wasn't that bad. While it has mostly the mid-2010's production style, and some of the tracks can get annoying / boring, the highlights we're pretty good. And Adele has some beautiful vocals on this thing, especially on tracks like "River Lea" and "Sweetest Devotion", which also have some of the best production on the record. "25" is just an ok album for the most part, there are tracks I dislike, and some I love. but for the most part, it's fine. Overall, I don't have that much else to say, it's a good pop album. I personally wouldn't return to "25", but maybe modern pop isn't that bad. Overall Rating: 70 / 100 Favorite Tracks: Send My Love, I Miss You, Water Under the Bridge, River Lea, All I Ask, Sweetest Devotion.

No question this lady has the pipes, but I didn’t like it one bit. Her vocal affectations and fake american accent drove me up the wall (huh-waaaaatah unda theh buh-reeeeeeeedge). Imagine lamenting about how your life is slipping away at age 25.

Adele is undoubtedly a very talented singer, her voice is absolutely perfect for the style of music she creates. The album sits toward the better end of the pop spectrum for me personally, but it is also more on the pop-ballad side too which does not appeal to me and never has. I’m really struggling with accepting the albums inclusion on this list, as I’m not even sure it’s Adele’s strongest either. There was only ‘Hello’ from the track listing that I had heard previously (ad nauseum on almost every TV advert for the last decade). Everything apart from that was new to me, yet somehow I was already bored of it, except for maybe Sweetest Devotion which was alright. Can’t bring myself to score this more than a 2/5. Don’t need to listen again.

Listed on headphones via Amazon. Overall had some nice and varied production. Million Years Ago was a surprise track.

I know this album was huge and all - best-selling album of 2015, and it only came out toward the end of the year - but do we really need to listen to it before we die? No, we don't, especially considering we are already going to listen to 21, which is a much better Adele album and sounds pretty much identical. The highs here are not as high as on that album, but there are no bad songs here either, unlike on her following album 30. Adele is certainly a talented, powerful, and passionate singer. But that’s where it stops for me. The music and hooks are generally boring and forgettable to me. The soft pop with big choruses and electronic drums feels formulaic and tired. 2 or 3 songs had an interesting enough vocal, lyrical, or musical aspect to note, but otherwise the album sailed right past me.

As this was released well into my lifetime and played pretty much everywhere you would expect to hear music, this is the exact type of music that made me dislike pop. Not all pop is terrible, of course—and this album is also not exactly the Ed Sheeran–level of awful—but a lot of popular music is such a slog to get through. It's fine to hear one song on radio and realize that it's virtually indistinguishable from the dozen other pop songs of a similar style, but hearing 48 minutes of only the highest-grade slop in a row is certainly not an experience I would ever look forward to. Like, this is not terrible. She can sings, and the album is well produced since, like, 50 engineers worked on it and probably millions of dollars were spent. But it is so uninspiring. It's the same tone, same structure, same themes over and over again. Saying that this music makes me feel absolutely nothing is an understatement. It's so unimaginative and so boring.

This isn’t a very exciting album. The songs are lackluster and forgettable. Such an incredible and powerful voice deserves something better than these crappy pop songs.

I cannot relate, simple as that. It doesn't ring a bell, it doesn't resonate with me. I am plain bored. Great voice, but this is so much a commercial product of the time that it feels like an advertorial for shiny production although some of the songwriting is arguably pretty solid.

She has a good voice. Adele is pretty odd. I guess the right would to describe would be adult contemporary? It's not really the same genre but it's so similar otherwise, appealing primarily to older audiences. There was some other review that pointed this out but she's writing at 25 about missing being young. That's really funny to point out, but Adele kinda just has the vibe of an older parent or something, it's weird. The album is itself is kinda a mixed bag sadly. This is pretty poppy in a way that undercuts the emotion at points. The songs can also blend together in a way that makes the album seem kinda... boring? One of the tags for this is literally "boring." There really are some great highlights, but the rest is just... boring. 5/10

Many people gave this album bad reviews, and I really wished I could have been one of them. I mean, me? Adele? Yuck! But the truth is, I didn't hate it as much as I wanted to. Don't get me wrong, it's not super good, nor is it something I'll ever revisit, but it had parts that were pretty catchy. I've always had a weakness for pianos, and to be honest, the music aspect of this album was pretty good and on point. It's Adele herself where I get a little lost. I'm not a fan of her voice, and I can't say I enjoy her lyrics either, but she worked with some great producers who gave this album much more potential.

Ok, the first album i didn't finish, u just knew that second half of songs will be the same. What's the problem? It's the style. Main focus is on the voice. Yeah, I get that her vocals are amazing, breathtaking. But for me, nah. No melody, no nothing to remember from song except for her singing. That's why she's singing the whole song non-stop. Not a single interval for like 5 seconds to rest. Ok, Imma listen to lyrics then, if they insist on it. Every single song is about being sad/break-up. Enough! 50 minutes of utter crying. Maybe I'm not in mood or condition for her? Maybe if I'm heartbroken she'll be the savior. But, tbh, I hardly believe it. Or just it's my taste of music? I mostly listen to the melody, instruments, riffs. I start listening to lyrics only when i like the melody itself. But here, nah. Sorry Adele, but 2 stars only for vocals, they're undoubtedly great, one of the best voices of last 20 years for sure. Song saved: 0

Fun! A little same-y but I really enjoyed it

Not to necessarily detract from how good this album is, it is the least of Adele’s albums. It is heavy on the balladery and feels like an album made by an older saber artist looking to pad their shows with new material. The opening two songs are those great set pieces.

Another Adele album. 4 years in the making. Was it worth it. Well in the sense of 3 years without it, yes it was. In fact another 10 would not have gone amiss. Her voice is OK, but nothing special. I mean, she's no Christine MacVie (Perfect), Chrissie Hynde, or Gladys Knight. The River Lea was the only halfway decent track but doesn't make it much worthwhile. 1

I could just copy and paste from my review of the last Adele album on here. I forget how old she was then but she was younger than this one but it’s still pretty much the same. I can acknowledge she is great at doing what she does. I just wish she didn’t have to do it.

Very nostalgic for me. Made me want to listen to more music like this (ballady, strong vocals) but most songs were pretty repetitive. I’m sure there are albums that do what this one does hut better. But I added some of the tracks to the playlist so that bumps it from a 2 to a 3.

I’m not a fan of this music.

Back in the early 2010’s, in my high school/somewhat early college years, my only gateway to music was my car radio. My intake was solely the songs I heard on the radio, which was mostly pop stations that played whatever was popular at the time, with some throwbacks. Miserable existence, I know. I eventually broke out of that. But in that time, I was familiar with a lot of the popular songs of the decade. So naturally, like millions of other people, I knew Adele, thanks to Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, basically all the hits from “21”. I remember Hello being this sort of “comeback song” for Adele since it was her first new song in a few years. That’s an eternity in the pop world. And then eventually I would barely listen to radio in favor of just plugging my phone into the radio to get rid of all the repetition I was hearing over the stations. After all of this time, I finally get the entire album experience for Adele’s return after 21 and… it’s okay. Like, it’s a standard album. Some pop songs here, some soft stuff here. It’s a little disappointing that someone of Adele’s talent is stuck making songs like this. I’d call it “Mariah Carey syndrome” but I think Adele’s a little better than that. Honestly, past the hits (Hello, Water Under the Bridge, Send My Love), there’s nothing of note here…expect one. All I Ask is this really nice slow song that I remember hearing being sung a bunch of times on American Idol. Not the Fox version, but the ABC one where everyone has a sob story and the flimsy belief that winning the show would make you a pop sensation is somehow still a thing. Yeah, it’s a popular pick and after hearing it, I can see why. I honestly wish more of the songs here were like that; more emotion and less pleasing-the-producers. But alas, that’s 25. Cheer up love! Honestly, I feel a bit bad saying that after saying what I said about Syd Barratt, but honestly, do you think Adele - or anyone! - has ever had this many emotions in their entire life? It's outrageously cloying and boring. Unlike early Adele, there's not even any fun stompers to offset the constant misery. There are people who probably like Adele who make jokes about Radiohead being miserable. I'd say round them up and send them to purgatory, but they'd probably enjoy it. I suppose it's worth acknowledging that, through the gloom and the tears, she's a good singer.

Adele is a once in a generation kind of singer. Hello, I Miss You, and the staggeringly beautiful When We Were Young are the standouts here. Beyond that, great singing as always, but the songwriting on display here is not the strongest of her output.

Oh dear. This is really not very good. How can people listen to this? In every song madam goes completely berserk on the microphone. It's a continuous bunch of vocal bombast. And the music, well, there hardly is any music. Nothing happens, nothing at all. The only song that has a bit more to it is 'River Lea'. The hitsingles 'Hello' and 'When we were young' are worst in terms of sounding like the air alarm during the Battle of Britain.

A beautiful voice, competent lyrics and some good songs, particularly the first few, but here comes another piano ballad. 3 Stars.

again with these 2010s throwbacks. where were you when this album released a decade ago? adele certainly pulled out whatever she could for this memoir of sorts, reflecting on her life at the age of 25. dramatic and almost grieving, this album, from its overplayed hits as well as the forgotten songs in-between paint a clear picture of adele's emotions. someone is aching about time gone by, and at the same time someone is hoping to gain wisdom as one grows older. sound isn't fully my thing, but it's a very pretty album.

I'm not a fan of overproduced pop, but this is a very well produced burner, worth listening to once, volume to the max. Some nice layers in the back channels. Only the occasional hint of 2015-era-skrillex-brostep, buried deep in the mix, like a dumb treat. Not a lot of risks here, but then again, not everything you consume needs to be risky to be good. You want an experimental sandwich for lunch every day? The age thing is a little irksome. When we were young? You're 25, unless you're getting nostalgic for tricycles I'm not buying it. Then again, Neil Young was talking about getting old almost 50 years ago, and no one gives him shit for it, so I'm giving Adele a pass. You kinda have to be insipid and self absorbed and melancholic when you're 25. Honestly, she had a 3-year-old kid at the time, a lot happens in those first 3 years. I'm glad I listened to this, and also glad I never have to listen to it again.

Some albums immediately take you back to a certain time and place. 'American Idiot' by Green Day always reminds me of heading to the cinema for Rozza's birthday. The self-titled album by Razorlight gives me nostalgia for long hours spent grinding away on Runescape. And '25' by Adele vividly triggers memories of April 1970 - a step back in time to the aborted Apollo 13 mission.

Fabulous sophomore album with period defining global hits Rolling In The Deep and I Set Fire To The Rain. Adele is an original voice filled with nuance and emotion, often sad and wistful, but ultimately powerful and triumphant through all heartaches.

She has one of the best, most expressive voices of all time. Songwriting is underrated. Production is everything it needs to be. She keeps it exciting throughout the whole project. I love this. This is one of those albums that just *barely* misses the perfect score mark. Still, a wonderful success. 4/5

So this isn't really my cup of tea, but one cannot deny that Adele is an all time great vocalist. Amazing delivery, great arrangements that showcase the lead vocals without feeling like a nothingburger. The only problem I have with this is treating 25 as if it's some old age where you can look back at nostalgia. Hey girl 25 is young! Anyway deserves a spot on the list.

I think I might feel differently about Adele if her moment in the sun didn't overlap almost exactly with the period of my life where I was working in restaurants and unable to escape pop radio. It's hard to separate her music from the agony of listening to "rolling in the deep" 25 times a day every single day but I'm trying Adele's delivery is powerful but the production kind of feels like they stuck the vocals into the "make pop song" machine. Polishing the blemishes out of music that is so focused on vocal performance robs it of some personality for me. I really wish there were half stars here - overall I think I like more things about it than I dislike, but a four seems like it'd be overstating it
