I fucking hate the fall

The Good: There is a trial… The Bad: We aren’t sure who is at trial… The Ugly: the fucking album Never heard of the fall. Couldn’t care about the fall… Will never play the fall again. 1* because I don’t care to listen to someone who is tone-deaf semi-sing “odd poetry"

wtf did i just listen to?

not my kind of music sorry...

Late-70's Indie Rock never really does it for me, and when you include the "Spinal Tap" effect it's just hard to take the vocals on these seriously

This was pure auditory torture. I found myself constantly checking how close I was to being done with this album, and it was never close enough. The only solace I had were the few and fleeting moments when the singing stopped.

This is bad. The “You can’t make us sing or play melodious harmonies” bit gets tired and boring after 2-3 songs, let alone after 15 of them.

Not for me

Utter rubbish.

Not for me

Just no. Not the vocals, not the lyrics.not the music.

I mean, I didn't hate it, but it was so messy that I can't see myself giving this anything above a 3. Did not need an eight minute outro.

Some of the picks on this list are trash tier music with no cultural, historical, or genre-specific relevance whatsoever. This is one of those albums.

Not for me at all.

Good stuff

They seem unhappy.

I can I can appreciate breaking the rules of music a little bit, but this is a hard NO!

Pretty terribly honestly.

This project has made me realise that I really dislike post punk.

It was really a lot for me to even finish this album. I can’t even explain which part particular stood out how bad but all of it just sucked. It sounded like it was trying to be something it isn’t, and it failed at even trying.

jesus cracking christ The best I can say about this THIRD ^$%#@ ALBUM BY THE FALL ON THIS LIST is that it's not as terrible as the other 2. ...which is like saying my picking up hot dog poop last night wasn't as bad as being stuck for 3 hours on a stalled commuter rail with no open windows in dead of summer when the train's plumbing is also not functioning. ...*occasional minutes in a row* of the music isn't terrible and has a decent-70s-raw sound but the fact that there are 3 albums by this shitty drunken buffoonish band led by this dead shithead for a "singer"... "oooo but you just don't GET it" - yeah stfu - this idiot was so far up his own ass... write a fkng song like a lot of their contemporaries did in the early punk age. This is rubbish. 3/10 1 star.

Yeah nah! Definitely nah! That for more and more horrible as I kept playing it.

The singer cannot sing. The drummer is really good but it's still unlistenable.

Amateur sounding, plain and lifeless.

This was absolute shite. Please never make my ears hear this again. I would rather roll around in battery acid.

45 years without hearing The Fall ... will not be listening again. Bad music, terrible voice.

Punk with a hint of new wave. There were some nice songs, "Rebellious Jukebox" has a really good guitar riff. For every good song there are plenty of really bad ones. Was going to give it a 2 star but by "No Xmas for John Quays" I just wanted it to end.

2.5hrs of nonesense.... Not in a Sabrina Carpenter way

Drunk yelling at a mic with discordant instrumentals. WTF is up with this, and why is this on here. Did not need this before dying. 1* 2.5 hours of garbage -- maybe no one should have given them access to the studio. I skipped all the bonus tracks, fuck this noise.

paskoja biisejä laulettu paskasti ja tahalleen miksattu päin persettä gg. korvat tuntuu kuin hukkuvan, pissaan. ääh vittu jaksa laita jotai kopypastea tähän: Muriseva, muriseva, kuin koira nurkassa, Mark E Smith on äärimmäisen pelottava, kaikki haukkuu ja puree, kun bändi tekee uskomatonta post-punkia. Minusta tämä voi olla neroutta. Luulen, että tämä saattaa olla taideteos. mitä vittua nyt taas?? murisee kuin vittu tsiile tekisi maalin brasseja vastaan konsanaan. noh ei kyllä minun mielestä kuulu yhtään räihkäilyä, pelkkää laiskaa (huonoa) punkkipelleilyä. nämä eivät tiedä syytä miksi punkki joskus harvoin toimii, eikä ilmeisesti kovin moni muukaan.... en minäkään. frightened

I wasn't much of a fan, it sounded like a bunch of noise to me. I can see how people can like it but not for me

Not a fan.

Not up for this at all

Not my thing. Doesn’t sound good to my ears

Utterly forgettable.

Didn’t like anything about this.

This would be passable if it was at a local concert at a dive bar, but it definitely doesn't belong in one of the 1001 albums to listen before I die

This sounds like "My kid's first band". What the heck is this? How could this possibly be a top 1001 album of all time? OF ALL TIME?! If this was made with children's toys as instruments, then maybe I can understand and appreciate the limitation that was put on the artists. The bass player deserves to be here, everyone else needs to take some music lessons. The drummer needs to practice with a metronome. Here are some sounds that I prefer over this album: babies crying, someone chewing gum with their mouth open, rubbing cotton balls together... I struggled big time just trying to get through the album. This is terrible. I don't understand. 1/5

Ugh jeez, this is almost as bad as getting a rap album. Really struggled to listen to this one - just sounded toneless and boring and repetitive. Maybe that’s meant to be the appeal?

1/5. After some good post-punk albums on this list, I had optimism I was the not liking it phase. This album brought me back unfortunately. Like, I hear the punk and understand the choice of having sounds that are offensive is the point, I just feel like there is a better way of going about that. This album does not do itself any favors. Best Song: Not really any of them, maybe Rebellious Jukebox idk

kind of noisy punk. annoying britishness dont explain to me why its important. The extremely low number of listens, except for track 1 suggest a "1001 Albums effect" . no thanks

I listened to "Live at the Witch Trials" all the way through. I am now going to re-run my review of "This Nation's Saving Grace" word for word: I never got The Fall, so I thought "here's an opportunity to give them a proper go, listen to whole album, one that is regarded as their best and most accessible. Maybe Mark E. Smith's voice isn't the most annoying bleating you ever heard once you get used to it. Maybe this is not just one of those bands that John Peel fell in love with and played so much that they became a beloved British institution through sheer familiarity, regardless of being complete rubbish. Maybe this is a band so bad that they're good." Nope. Just nope.

I was thinking this would be a 2 because while it's definitely not for me, I could at least kinda appreciate it. Then "No Xmas for John Quays" came on and I could not wait for it to be over. The album didn't really improve much for me from there but at least became "tolerable". Overall I just kinda found it to be noisy. I stuck through it because I'm just determined to listen to every album and every track. You can be certain though I only listened to the songs on the original release and not the over 2 hours on the release version.

The musical equivalent to scratching a sunburn.

My weekly reminder that I do not like punk rock

That lead singer is terrible. He started trying to hold a note and I hit stop and moved on. More trash

Terrible. Opening track sounded vaguely interesting, but I can't abide this sort of thing. Pretending you're punk is just daft. All I can see there to link them to the likes of the Sex Pistols is the poor copy of the vocal style.

Unpleasant singing, guitar

wasn’t doing really anything

no, no, no; kann ich mir nicht (dauerhaft) anhören

1.5 So, I took a nice long break from this project. While I am not exactly sure how long (this album was generated on July 8th and I was already quite a bit behind when I gave up but it's November 13th already). I can't believe the first thing I am coming back to is The Fall. The Infotainment Scan was my first 1 in this project. Maybe seeing this was up next is what prompted me to stop trying. On to the album itself - The Fall is still not for me. Frightened was the best on the album, but that's not saying much. I think I disliked this less than The Infotainment Scan, but that could be my excitement for starting this up again talking.

Awful vocals - inaccessible listen

Fascinating historical example of what people thought was good music before health and safety culture drastically reduced the number of severe head injuries

Started off thinking this isn't too bad for a 'post punk' album, a potential 2 stars. But couldn't wait for it to finish by the end and to listen to some good music. Always used to think I was open to liking all music genres, but this app has really taught me how shit post punk is.

It's a very uninspiring album, have already forgotten what it sounds like. Won't be one I listen to again. Probably would have been entertained more at a real Witch trail

It’s crazy that this album was only 30 minutes because it dragged and felt a lot longer. It did nothing for me but I’m just not a punk guy. I like their ethos, but not their music.

No thanks

These guys walked so every other band in the punk genre could run.

Just because someones uses lyrics for addressing current problems doesn’t make them beloved nor adds value to their music. No vocals or instrumentals really touched me it just sounded like random things randomly playing to random topics.

There is nothing interesting about this. At all.

Fucking awful. Made it to track 4, after I had been forcing myself to give it a chance about 30 seconds into track 1. As much as I have been pleasantly surprised by a number of albums and artists I expected to dislike, there is a sense of patting yourself on the back when you expect something to be dog shit and it then turns out to be dog shit!

Listened to one and a half tracks, but not my cup of tea at all I’m afraid. I abandoned the rest.

“Bold and Brash? More like: Belongs in the Trash.”

Weird music and songs

British punk vibes, not for me.

great first song

I have come to the conclusion that all of the punk music coming out of England during this time period all sounds the same. Ugh.

Another high 1

Gave me a headache. Zero tunes. Crap vocals.

Purposely bad is still bad... Might deserve the first 1 star rating...

He gadverdamme. Change. My. Mind.

Not my cup of tea!!

не понимаю я вашу диссонирующую эстетику

Usually when I personally don't like something on here, my take is "It's good for what it is, but this is not my jam. 2.5." I can't even get that far with this album. I get that it's punk and it sounds the way the band wants it to sound, but I didn't enjoy this one at all. It's not objectively awful, and I hope others enjoy this more than I did. 1.5.

Skipped through every song. I like to think I am open to all genres of music, but I suppose that I am not. This one was a definite no.

My first one-star review! There are glimmers of musical interest here, but they get overshadowed by the awful vocals and way-too-proud anti-pop attitude. Interesting band historical (over sixty members!) but the lead singer's crappy attitude clearly bleeds into the music in a pompous and unpleasant way. Ick

I am so happy I now never have to hear this album again. The vocals are so annoying, instrumentals are such low quality and I have no idea what they were thinking putting that constant synth tone in the background. Not to mention how goddamn long this album is, it just goes on and on and on and feels like it's never going to end. All this album is to me is a worse version on Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, which is an album I love dearly. This album is honestly an insult to masterpieces like that. I truly have nothing positive to say about this one.

Atonal, sloppy and shouty. High punk, low enjoyment.

Nog meer van die bagger! Wéér alles vals, dun geluid, jankzang, muzikanten die er expres met de pet naar gooien. Sodemieter toch een end op.

A lot of duds

Maybe I don’t get it. Maybe I just don’t like it. Either way, think I could die happy having never heard this.

Nope no thank you. Not my kind of music. Very noisy. 1 of 5

This sounds like all of the scrappy bands I played with back in High School. Not that much of a compliment.

New-wave/punk that sounds like a student band practicing in their dorm room.

Could not get through this

I came so close to turning it off. Angry British ranting over mediocre music. I hate this music style. Do yourself a favour and look up the original tracklist and stop after music scene.

Singer's voice is awful

I guess I'm just not that big a punk fan.

Frightened 1-1.5/5

Necer heard The Fall. Pretty uninspiring stuff. Got as far as Mother Sister then gave up

This is everything I dislike about punk, post-, hardcore, where musically it just seems to be a celebration of being crap.

Not a fan.

This was bad

This was not good. The songs were repetitive musically and the vocals were more of a rant than singing. Futures and Pasts was really the only song that had something interesting going on. 1.5/5

I’d rather be listening to Public Image, Ltd. or the Sex Pistols. It’s not impassably bizarre like other The Fall albums, but that ain’t high praise.

Probably one of the worst things I have ever listened to

Not my thing

I was not excited for this after my experience with their other album on here, but oh my god, this was rough to get through. It's borderline unlistenable to me at points. It made me a bit angry and I was relieved to be done with it. If you told me you liked this album, I'd be worried about you. I would generally say it gets a tad bit better in the second half, but that's really just a shift from being annoying to being nothing. That last song being so long was torture though. So close to done, yet so far... My favourite song was Underground Medecin, I guess.

Off pitch singing, terrible lyrics, no melody, and broken tempos.

I don't like The Fall. This is a live album that lacks any notable qualities of a good live album, let alone a must-listen. It sounds like it was recorded in someone's living room and was half-arsed the entire time. Maybe that's the point, I dunno.

Not good.

Unbearable. Made everyone in my house feel angry and irritated.

Tässä on ääniä ja hyvä kuunnella jos harmittaa maailman meno. Ukraine!!! Stop the war!! Ukraine!!! Ei merkittävän kuuloista musisointia kuitenkaan..

All filler no killer

Two Fall albums in a row. This one was not as good as the other one. Singing just as terrible.

Anghhh

The Fall is bij mij verkeerd gevallen met hun 'no Xmas for john Quays' (luister: junkies). Vervelende lui.

Zeer tegen m'n gewoonte in heb ik deze plaat niet afgeluisterd. Ben m'n cd's aan het uitzoeken en luisteren nu naar Lucky Fonz III. Past me vandaag beter dan die hese herrie.

Just not very good. There’s a certain angers energy in it, but the voice is just unpleasant and the music isn’t very impressive or enjoyable to listen to. I’m sure teenage angst elevates it but I’m 31 and this just isn’t good.

The Fall will always be shite

I’d rather be burnt at the stake than listen to this again. The Fall were shite.

Another half an hour of trash from The Fall. The author has a rager for this band…70 albums in and the 3rd from them. I think this is just a band that I don’t get. The music is interesting at times, but the vocalist may be the worst voice in recorded music. My anger builds with each song. Is this guy playing a joke, or is his ego so massively inflated that he doesn’t care how bad he sounds? Please no more from this band.

Really hard to listen to I had to give up on it. Don’t get why this is on the list…

Accidentally wrote this review under GZA, so here is my GZA review: I enjoyed the presentation of this album. I like how a lot of hip hop albums have these little interludes, it makes it feel truly like an album as opposed to a bunch of songs. That being said, it’s really hard for me to stay interested in songs when they’re loop/sample based. I know it’s all about the lyrics but I just automatically check out when the production is like that. I will say that for a hip hill album the production was a little more interesting than average and some of the chopped grooves were kind of cool. But ultimately it all just feels like background music to me. 2.7

Oof I did not like this. I thought he was also saying No Xmas for Donkeys.

Recorded in a single session-it is noticeable. No variability at all. Sloppy. Annoying. Most of these albums are punk/rock English bands. Going to do some research into who put together 1001 albums after this one.

Another band I’ve never heard of. Wikipedia says they are post-punk. I don’t really understand what that means, but other post-punks bands I’ve listened to, such as Siouxsie and the Banshee, haven’t really clicked for me. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: No Xmas for John Quays I’ll be completely honest and say I just don’t understand this genre of music. The vocals are difficult to listen to, the guitars are overly twangy, and it was generally an unexciting listen. I’d love to find an album of a similar genre that does click with me so I could at least appreciate other albums from a musical standpoint. As things are, I find it boring and kind of annoying. Needless to say, I can’t see myself returning to this album any time soon.

Started listening to this as I was online, early in the morning. Must have listened to 20 odd tracks which I was by now finding hard going, thenI noticed there were another 20 to go! I couldn’t stand the thought so bailed out. 1*

ilahduttaa ja ärsyttää hiljaiset syna-blingit ja nintendo. mutta muuten vaikea sietää

Not worth being on this list

Sounds like a lot of where Turnstile and Arctic Monkeys might have gotten some inspiration? Cool arrangement and sound, not a big fan of the vocals though. The guitar with the clean chorused sound is nice though, just wish it was a bit more present in the mix. The band overall is a bit sloppy and off time, but I don't mind it. The lyrics are kind of just juvenile, though. I like how the sound is consistent though, like it all ties together. And I think the clean guitars is a nice touch, sounds kinda like a Roland Jazz Chorus and a single coil guitar. Alright - can't even make it through the album. Vocals are just not my thing at all, songs are too juvenile and whiny, and structures are pretty boring.

Didn’t enjoy this one either - a 3rd 1 star in a row I’m afraid. It just lacked any interesting ideas and ended up up being a dull listen. I like punk but what was this rebelling against? Melody?

Have resigned myself to the fact that I just hate punk. And I think I hate it more having listened to this. A lot of the playing sounded pretty good, especially from the rhythm section, but I didn't come close to remotely enjoying one single track.

Punk - Blergh

Wow, this album really sucks. We already had the misfortune of two albums by The Fall, both of which got 2 stars from me. Although this is one is apparently worse than the others, my sentiment stays the same over all three - jarring, unpleasant and without any serious redempting features.

Hmmm. Trying to think of something I liked about this one. Hmmm. Nope.

Repetition

just bad 1.5

Sounds like a school kid that just started their first garage band. A shit garage band. Shannah (0.5) Bill (0.5) Conor (2)

Torture. Painful listening Cover art: my favourite in a week 4/5

Just miserable. Potentially the worst album I've ever heard. You start listening to this album and finish with your mind hurting from confusion. It's just gibberish and noise. I would have been happier living my life not knowing about this album, but yet, my mind is weighed down by the fact that this exists.

Best Song: No song is good enough to be the best of the bad bunch. Worst Song: Rebellious Jukebox. Everything about this sounds like a high school band's first performance of the second song they've ever written. Their classmates are nonplussed. Overall: Short (thankfully). Nothing exciting nor interesting here. Another example of when this list degrades into "1001 albums and older British man remembers from his youth."

This one takes the cake This is the absolute worst album yet

This is not an album I would say needs to be heard before I die. If anything, I would have preferred never to listen to this album. Sounds like a high school band

Hard pass. When it sounds like I'm going to get yelled at instead of sung to, I tap out.

Not my pubm I'm

Annoying and atonal singing ruined the experience for me

I couldn't listen to any more, it's a mess

Not a pleasant album to listen to

This was terrible. I have no idea what I just listened too. Tedious screaming dude over repetitive baselines? My friend's band in middle school had more musicality than any of this.

You can tell it's written in one day, rip.

Extremely bad.

Horrible, horrible. Almost Coldplay level horrible

Soort van Engelse punk stijl maar dan met muzikanten die net niet in de maat spelen en een zanger die ook niet heel veel zangkwaliteiten heeft. Het nummer "Rebellious Jukebox" klinkt nog wel aardig. *

Gewoon nee. Lekker met zn allen langs elkaar heen spelen. Omdat het kan ofzo.

Not one of my favorites

Unlistenable. Terrible rhythm section sabotages attempt to be PiL.

i couldnt make it through the first few songs
