Ever song sounded the same
Reggae is nice but the overuse of reverb and echo effects tires my ears in the long run. Burden of shame is basically reggae moondance. I understand the value this album had on the british scene back when it was released but I value this only as background music.
Good Reggea i guess, but I got bored after a few songs.
Boring
Not great
Even though I used to like their hit songs I was not in the mood for this. I might revisit it at a later time.
I do not enjoy this very much. Normally I would blame it on the weather, but its a beautiful sunny day out, so I think it's just bad. 4 reggae was a mistake, ska forever
Didn't hate it but nothing special. We only need red red wine
Ich weiß nicht, in meiner Erinnerung war die immer Schwung. Davon habe ich bei dem Album nichts bemerkt
As a first release, this was really good. However, I'd probably not listen to this more than once a quarter.
Not bad I guess... lots of dub tracks. I listened to it while running errands and found it inoffensive but at no point really clicked with this.
It's reggae, but it's easy listening reggae. Not a big fan. And BTW Burden of Shame is a blatant ripoff of Moondance by Van Morrison - almost identical melody. I wonder if they got sued. 2 stars.
There is much better raggae than this lol
4
Look, we've talked about this before. Reggae is something for which I really need to be in the mood. Generally, I like UB40. This album, however, just didn't do it for me. 2 stars.
I went into this kind of dreading it. I hate "Red Red Wine", so I was expecting more of the same. While I did get a bunch of it, I did also get some interesting dub parts. Inoffensive enough background music, not for me. Favorite track: "Burden of Shame"
not my genre, disc 1 lang nakayanan kong tapusin, every song seems the same im sorry
Not my style of music, but I get why people like it. The rhythms are hypnotic, but this album is repetitive to me. Every song sounded very similar to the preceding track. However, I really dug the longest song, Madam Medusa, but that was really the only highlight for me. 2.5/5.
Pænt ligegyldigt reggae. Skulle jeg høre sådan noget igen, så ville jeg hellere høre Bob.
They should be unemployed and should have signed off. 1.0
no
Was probably a 2 but what was that cover of strange fruit
Absolutely offended by their cover of “Strange Fruit.” How tasteless.
Better than Red red wine, but that doesnt say a lot. HM-reggae that cant even been interesting at the time, even less now.
Wow an hour of reggae may be my personal hell
Laid back reggae. Sounds like it was a lot of fun to jam to, but I found it repetitive and boring to listen to front-to-back. I think reggae is just not really my vibe.
...
First listen
I fail to see how a genre (that I don't particularly enjoy anyway) is improved by adding Brummie-influenced.
Any possibility of a score higher than 1 is immediately shot down by what they did to Strange Fruit.
Mira que me gustaba ub40,pero esto es 7na bazofia sin sentido. Cortes en medio de las canciones, mal grabado, subidas y bajadas de voz.....sin sentido
Wait a minute… These guys suck !
We should be ruder to ska
No ~!
The audio equivalent of ordering jerk chicken but receiving chicken seasoned with only salt and pepper.
I couldn't name any UB40 songs (upon googling afterwards, yes obviously "Red Red Wine") but I'd heard of them. I'm not sure if I had somehow conflated UB40 with B-52s or something, but I was expecting some kind of 70s/80s pop and then BAM... completely blindsided by Reggae. I was up until 3am last night with my neighbours' malfunctioning intruder alarm going off and keeping me awake... So I don't have a lot of patience today. This would be a problem for any Reggae - a genre that is famously simple and repetitive by nature - but then they went ahead and did the one thing I hate most. Do you know what it is? I don't shut up about it in my reviews. Here's a hint: looking at you, Madam Medusa... That's right! A nearly 13 minute song that doesn't earn even 4 of its minutes by being interesting. Over 12 minutes of the same Reggae bounce on the same progression, and nothing to change it up or provide any contrast. Now, I don't mind a long song... as long as it's engaging from start to finish. Give me "Tubular Bells", "Jesus of Suburbia", "Sinnerman" - heck, even "Free Bird". Songs that grab your attention and hold it either by evolution or escalation. The only other angle from which I give these long songs a pass is if they're background music. Lo-fi or ambient tracks that are designed to just fill a space with a sound and live in that sound. Music to forget you're even listening to. It's hard to forget you're listening to Reggae. Please stop. It's too long.
i agree with the messaging, but this is very boring to listen through.. fav song: Adella
yay reagge and politics everyones favorite i was like okay if the musics always gonna be bum tara bum ta lets check the lyrics, for my surprise just as monotone, two songs in they already butchered lean on me, one positive thing about this are the basslines
I do not like UB40
Deer ankle
Disappointing
not great at all. later music is much better. dare say not good
recht lahm - brauche ich nicht
The most fucking godawful shite in the history of music. I’d rather listen to apemen clubbing rocks for an hour.
I don‘t get Reggae, almost fell asleep.
Just not for me at all.
1/3. Reggae just isn't my thing I guess, or at least this album isn't. Such a snoozefest, literally felt like a full hour of the same song being played over and over. I know reggae is defined by the beat, but this was just so samey all the way through; I was so close to finishing but halfway through Reefer Madness I had to tap out. Supposedly the lyrics are good, but unfortunately I didn't catch any.
Ugh. Really repetitive for my tastes. An hour was way too long. Food for Thought was the highlight along with the saxophone playing just didn’t enjoy each song sounding so similar :(
I've always wondered why UB40 are so popular, given that Red Red wine is their main hit when it's a dreadful song. This album is further proof that UB40 is a band I just do not get. Awfully annoying whiny vocals, the music sounds the same on every song and a lot of the lyrics come across as nauseating and preachy. I couldn't wait for it to end after one song. UB1/5
Um-chica, um-chica, sax solo, sing, um-chica, um-chica, sing, sax - repeat, then change some of the tempos - BORING!
First two songs have some good musical ideas. Even touching. I hesitate a bit with this style, but First two tracks work really well. With track 3 we are left only with the reggae instrumental. It is played well, but not has enough content. Not existing. Track 4 has interesting lyric, but not so interesting music. I can tell this early on that it's going to be too long. Worried. Some changes in groove here. That's positive. Not getting better... The Randy Newman rendition does absolutely nothing. (I think it's one the most touching songs ever, and to make it so boring is a shame). I guess I like my reggae rough and more natural. The prestige sound makes it much less personal, and not interesting. And I'm not even halfway through. 8 is maybe the best since the first two tracks. Has a nice flow. 9 fine aswell.10 meh Now a 12 minute track. Why... Strange Fruit version Dull as well. Such a great timeless song, such disappointing execution. I'm really glad it's the last song This is pretty bad. 66 minutes of little highlights. The first two songs are nice, but even if that quality would have remained for the rest of the runtime it wouldn't save the project for being mideocare at best. That's why it's a 1.9. So sorry for that.
Another one that shouldn’t be on the list. It’s boring.
This was terrible. At first I thought maybe it just wasn't my genre of music, and maybe I just needed to be more open-minded. Nope. It sucked.
Blancos que hacen reggae
Extremely boring and repetitive
Another album where no song stood out
So boring.
Boring. Hard to get past the third song.
Counterfeit product
1. tyler - 1.5 2. king - 1 3. bar - 1.5 4. zhame - 1.5 5. adella - 1.5 6. rain - 1.5 7. 25 - 2 8. food - 2 9. little - 1.5 10. off - 1 11. meduza - 1.5 12. fruit - 1 13. reefer - 1.5
Thais really is not my bag and I can’t finish it.
If there’s one thing I hate more than reggae, it’s white people doing reggae.
Not for me.
Dull, repetitive, an absolute slog to get through, I could go on but you get the point. Did not enjoy this in the slightest. It’s not the worst album I’ve had on here by any means but it’s up there with the dullest.
I’m officially signing off from reggae. I know it’s the backbone to ska but I don’t care, it all sucks - except Ras Trent
No thanks bro. No. thanks.
Erfitt að tengja við þetta, vantar allt kikk
Sounds like what you'd get if you pressed the "Reggae" button on a Casio keyboard (and then turned the volume down so as not to wake the neighbors).
nahh
Ugh...Reggae. At least this one doesn't have UB40's terrible version of the already terrible song, "Red Red Wine". Throw this on the junk pile along with Simply Red, Fine Young Cannibals, and Dexy's Midnight Runners.
didn’t even finish listening to this, so repetitive
Gave it a couple songs, wasn't for me.
No.
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
Couldn't do it, held out for the Randy Newman cover, but it's just a slog to me.
Every song is the same, and none of them are good
Meh
Boring
This was a really monotonous album, all tracks, well most sounded the same. Dull and flat there was nothing to it at all. Needed a bit of oomph.
King Food for Thought
How is a UB40 album on this list? How does it not even have Red Red Wine on it? How is it over an hour long? How is it so boring that I had to turn it off after 4-5 songs?
I just can't stand reggae.
I'm morally opposed to this.
Jesus Christ. This was potentially one of the most abysmal albums I’ve ever heard. Reggae music for fat, white, middle aged, IT consultants. Music made by people who once saw Jamaica on a map so now feel like they have a kinship with its people. Truly woeful, and I wish nothing but pain on the artists. May their next shites be hedgehogs.
“What kind of music do you like” “Oh, I like everything. Except reggae.”
Very repetitive. I was generous the first time around, but not so much this time.
Nope.
Did not enjoy this. I'm only lukewarm with reggae to begin with, and this was absolutely nothing outstanding.
This is not for me.
This album is an hour too long. The only good thing I can say about reggae is it gave way to ska
No songs on album that I would I go out my way to add on any playlist or listen for my own pleasure.
not the vibe
reggae really sucks, this is horrid i could listen to this drunk as fuck on a beach i guess, but i'd still rather listen to most other things in that situation. I really tried to give every song a chance but they all sound the FUCKING SAME. nice saxophone melody, you hacks
Mid
This felt like it lacked a lot of the passion that I do occasionally find interesting in reggae.
Not a fan. Sounded like the same song over and over.
This was hard to get through. British cosplay reggae.
One of the worst things i ever heard. Its absoluty mental this on the list. Rubbish.
apsolutno nepodnosljivo svrdlanje po duši. polka za sredovječne bankare.
Blehh too pop
How to make reggae boring and at the end annoying…
Being quite unreceptive to reggae, approaching UB40 is somewhat akin to listening to Pierpoljak, especially knowing the height of UB40’s career was into the reggae-pop of “I got you babe”. The social dimension of their first album might have appealed to me, but the saxophone, the vocals, this damn reggae rhythm, the ultra-naive denunciations set against music made for smoking spliffs… It might be good within its genre, but I’m not even sure, especially when compared to more authentic works. It lacks of magnitude, listener is never surprised or impress. I just can’t get into it… except “Food for thought, the only tune I kind of like, but only because it reminds me childhood times.
Toujours du reggae, toujours non.
I feel like it has a message but it did not reach nor move me. This is the first one I rate one star.
this band made a career playing other people music. so i have nothing to say and will not listen to it
Super boring.
I fucking hated this album.
Lacks energy and all sounds the same.
Oh so boring. I can hang with a greatest hits compilation (a short, 30 minute one), but I can’t hang with “Signing Off.”
Nope. Every reggae sounds the same
Eh.
I don't think anything from this band besides red red wine is good
Some people can differentiate between music that is good and music that they like. I cannot. I hated this album, therefore it is bad.
there's an inordinate amount of repetitiveness in this album, which went on for too long. red red wine is already one of my least favorite songs ever, so this solidifies me as an UB40 hater for life.
I'm begging you no more reggae
Would rather staple my balls to my head than listen to this pish, why isn’t 0 an option ?
hate being the guy who says every song sounds the same, but every song sounds the same - and they all suck
Words cannot describe how boring and underwhelming this was.
Was kind of cool at first but the same instrumentation for an hour gets old fast.
I would've given this 2 stars, but I knocked a star off for it being a double album. Bore me with a single album, not a double, you cunts!
As a lover of Red Red Wine, I thought this was going to be bops on bops. But it didn’t do it for me. Almost all skips.
Did not like, could handle one song…
Very monosyllabic. Sounds like the same song over and over...
Ganske kjipt
absolute fucking slog of an album
I hate this album
Did not liaten
tired of trying to listen to this. it probably played ten times through after i fell asleep bc i woke up and this shit was still looping. fuck outta here.
not my genre
Wenig innovativer Reggae.
I gained absolutely zero enjoyment from this album. Apparently I don’t get the British Reggae thing… and I’m glad I don’t. I’d give it 0 stars if I could
I sat through this reggae album. Man, I'm tolerant. They bait every song. "Oh, this one might be different!" I think. Nope, same song again. One love, One Sound, One Star.
Kto słucha rege ten ...
Hated it.
1.5
I dislike reggae that isn’t Bob Marley. For making me suffer through a long album, I divide the score by the number of albums suffered (double album).
Brutta copia di bob marley. Già Bob Marley è vecchio e ha stufato, figuriamoci le brutte copie
No.
Reggee sucks. I usually agree with the messages in the lyrics. But the music itself is garbage. This is no different.
Wouldn't listen to UB40 if you paid me.
Yeah, this holds zero interest for me. It is bad reggae. Nice, maybe, that it opened people up to reggae. But beyond that, nope.
Albums boring as hell
What is this watered-down, generic-sounding, wanna-be reggae doing on a list of albums you must hear before you die? Like, what? Such a boring album. I wanted to like it, but no.
It’s pretty slow and dull and most songs sounds the same. If a 60+ minute British Dub album sounds like a good idea to you, you might like this. I did not.
Didn't really like this. It felt too yacht rock for me.
10/09/22 Maybe I’m close minded but there’s something about white reggae that turns me off … and made me turn this one off before getting halfway. I listen to too much roots reggae to keep to appreciate this. Wonder why white rap doesn’t bother me the same way.
It's just not for me
Random thoughts: - fuckin sick of Dimery pushing the UK. - didn't know UB40 started out as one of those pom reggae bands - I hate pom reggae even more than regular reggae - an entire fucking HOUR of this shit? bugger me. - I'm giving out two 1s in a row! - I hate giving out low scores at the same time as the "omg white people doing x!!" losers, so lots of negativity this morning. 1/5.
I hate that someone said they don’t like this because they don’t like reggae. This is just garbage. And NOBODY likes garbage. JK a lot of people do just not me.
I was going to give this 2 stars because they tried, but then I remembered I gave The Band 2 stars and they are way better than this. 1/5
Maybe this is good reggae I don’t know. But everything sounded the exact same to me and I turned it off 6th song in. I kept imagining Barney from how I met your mother making fun of reggae and it made me mad at that show and then mad at reggae and then mad at the show again. So if you have any reggae that is interesting pass it along.
Nope. One of my most hated bands, and they still are. The world does not need Brummies (doing cod reggae). An album so bad it is practically a hate crime! Listen to the music they claim to love, not this piss poor facsimile. 0 🌟. Seriously, not even the 1 I had to give it.
Every song sounds 'the same'.
This is just not my style.. made it through half the album. "You be 40 - I'll be leaving now..."
Hard pass
My Mum likes this band. I'm not a fan of reggae at the best of times but Brummie reggae? Ugh. BT: King, I Think It's Going To Rain Today, Food For Thought
I think I could go my entire life without listening to this album. Music quality wasn't bad, many songs blended together.
Yikes
No Be Forty
