Reviews (page 7 of 15)

4.5★. I mean, it's Abbey Road... Harrison is still getting the short-shrift here with only two songs, but they proved to be the two biggest hits (though I guess Come Together could also lay a claim to a spot) so there's that. Meanwhile, McCartney's talents seem to be applied to their ideal state in that endless medley of songs (his vocals on the initial section of You Never Give Me Your Money are enough to make me cry, even though the lyrics are so insignificant). And John is John. Because is wonderfully elusive, and a masterpiece of harmonies. And I Want You (She's So Heavy) is not only the greatest love song ever made but maybe the greatest song. And while the transition from that to Here Comes the Sun is more notable, the transition from the lighthearted instrumentals of Octopus's Garden to the heavy Bass of I Want You has an equally transformative effect on me. In essence: it's alright.

C'mon, it's Abbey Road. Easy five stars.

Some of the most iconic songs in the Beatles catalogue. For many people, this is their favorite Beatles album, but for me this one has some songs that don't stand up to the test of time for any but the most diehard Beatles fan (Maxwell's) One of the prime examples of Beatles albums where the songs flow together more seamlessly than the discrete songs which propelled them to radio stardom

Come Together Something Oh! Darling I Want You (She's So Heavy) Here Comes the Sun Because You Never Give Me Your Money She Came in Through the Bathroom Window Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End Her Majesty

Side 2 of Abbey Road is perfect, and the album in its entirety is a masterpiece. Anyone who says it’s overrated is a tool.

Banger after banger

Wondered how long it would take to get this one. There isn't anything new to say about this record. Is this the best Beatles album? Yeah I think so. It's got its share of 'why'd they even record this?' songs as all their albums do. Like what the hell did we really need Maxwell's Silver Hammer for? Though it does sound like classic Beatles now that I think of it. But this album has a handful of the best songs they did, which for the Beatles is saying a lot. I don't agree that this is the best album ever recorded but it would probably be a top 10 for me. Maybe top 20. I also think it's funny that everyone rags on George Harrison for his songwriting but he wrote, according to plays on Spotify, the Beatles most popular song, Here Comes The Sun. By a huge margin. I was sort of surprised to see that. 5/5

5 stars for the cover art alone? Yes. Or “Golden Sumbers”? Yes. Ringo’s drum solo? Yes. John’s madness on “I Want You”? Yes. Paul’s ditty to the Queen? Yes. George’s guitar tone on “Something”? Yes. Is it perfect? No, but only because I wish it would never end.

ABEESS ROED

I see Beatles, I give perfect score

Beatles at the top of their game. The ending medley is perfection.

This album has always been in my top couple of albums. Perfectly crafted songs, planed and recoded with such authenticity. Hands downs down the most complete Beatles work.

Excellent

Oh, that magic feeling - it's Abbey Road day! There are worlds built in each song on this album, and it's such a pleasure to lose yourself in exploring them with each listen. This time, I was completely immersed in I Want You (She's So Heavy), thinking how incredibly the arrangement captures this specific emotion. I was so zoned in that my breath caught when it abrubtly ends and transitions into Here Comes the Sun. It was as close as you can get to that "first time" listen again. Such a euphoric transition. I remember being in the Borders browsing CDs, knowing I had to get something by the Beatles. I'd just listened to Rubber Soul and I needed more. A kind woman noticed, we talked for a few minutes, and then she handed me Abbey Road and said "Get this one." I think about her every time I listen and hope she's doing well. This would be an absolute masterpiece even if it ended with Because. But my god, then you have the whole medley after that. One of the best moments on the album is the breathing room between The End and Her Majesty. I'm so glad there's space there to really linger in those last words and ascending ahhhs. *And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make*

Some of the greatest Beatles tunes coming near the end as you could see the bits unraveling. We get to hear more from George as he flexes a bit and Sinatra credits "Something" as one of the best love songs ever recorded. Having Billy Preston on organs is huge elevating "I Want You' to something immense.

I didn’t listen to any Beatles albums before this project. At this point, I have considered each new Beatles album I hear to be the best one I’ve heard. I liked this better than Sgt. Pepper’s, and Sgt. Pepper’s more than Hard Day’s Night. And I like each one leaps and bounds more than the previous. At this rate, Revolver will have to do my taxes or some shit to impress me.

It’s Abby Road. In five hundred years, this will be one of the surviving artifacts, a masterpiece of our time. Three armed kids with lizard noses will learn these songs the way our kids learn Mozart.

Fantastic album. I don’t know what else to say.

As a known Beatles disliker (hater seems too harsh) this is the one time on a full album i'll give it to them. Even though there's still a couple duds in Maxwell and Octopus, the rest is excellent. Love the structure of the second half being a long medley, that part where the melody of 'You're Gonna Carry that Weight' comes back in towards the end is brilliant. Also I Want You (She's So Heavy) is the best song they ever did, and it's a tragedy that they wasted so much time on crappy little pop songs when they had potential in them the whole time. Outrageous.

I think their best. The run from I want You, to the end of the album, is without peer.

...is this my favorite Beatles album? It takes a lot of the digressions found in the more experimental albums and threads them together cleanly and pleasantly. Some of their poppiest songs are here, as well as their weirder little noodly bits.

The most done with the least

I mean it's no Finally Rich but it's pretty good

Easy 5, prob the best record from prob the best band ever, just stellar. hot take: Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window is maybe my fave Beatles track(s) - that section of the record is just John and Paul at their best songwriting-wise and the whole band just nails the execution. Totally fantastic. George Martin must have felt like he had lightning in a bottle there. So surprised that combo doesn’t seem to get a lot of love in the press/radio/etc.

Easiest 5 star of my life, what can you even say. The songs at the beginning are great, the run at the end is legendary. This could come out today and be a hit. Changed the course of music completely, etc. etc. The amount of pretty boring 60s music (and onwards!) on this list really shows how far ahead the Beatles were for their time. Probably the best Beatles album?

What to say about an album that sounds brilliant today, and was released before you were born? I'll be 53 soon and I'm guessing this album will mean even more to me by the time I'm 75. To me this is not the best Beatles album.... It's not the best songs. What has more than any other record is the raw emotion in performance. Golden Slumbers might just be Paul's most vulnerable and gritty vocal ever. To me it defines him. The piano and strings mesh beautifully with his voice and it will never be matched in 92 seconds of ecstasy. You have Oh Darling on the same album. Maybe one of the best Beatles doowop heavy rocking songs ever. Again a brilliant performance. When you told me, you didn't need me anymore...such passion in the delivery. And we haven't even talked about George yet. Something is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Five isn't fair for this as a measurement of its extreme beauty. I want you, so heavy is one of the trippiest psychedelic journeys ever. Its out there on a planet all by itself.

Best album ever made. The Beatles outdid themselves and George Martin delivered. Abbey Road is work of art. Perfection.

Awesome Beatles album, liked this one more as tracks were a bit more melodic and sophisticated than their earlier bubblegum pop songs. Liked the A-side a little more but was also familiar with the songs, but enjoyed the entire album.

It’s hard to deny that this is a really good album. I struggle to call it the “best ever,“ as the global rankings of this project seem to have it right now. But I am hard-pressed to name an album more deserving of that title. 4.5* rounding up to 5 to help make sure Kid Rock doesn’t catch up in the standings! 😉

A masterpiece. This is everything Let It Be was not; finished and well-conceived. A fitting encore that seems to show something new on every listen.

Day244 - i don’t know what’s better the first four songs or the last four. either way this is an amazing album

Obviously

I think I've enjoyed "Revolver" a bit more. Although it doesn't have so much straight up hits like this album. Still it's hard for me. Is it a 4.5 or a 5 stars album. I'll go with 5/5. It's a lot to unpack in here.

Come Together is undoubtedly one of The Beatles' finest tracks. It sounds 40 years ahead of its time, and it's 55 years old. And they start this album off with it! I don't think this is the best album ever, but I do think it's massively good, supremely influential and a nice culmination of the success of a genuinely great band.

The best

A classic. I prefer the first half to the medley, but it's still great as a whole. 4.5 stars

I mean, obvi...

Abbey Road, by the actual Beatles, is a good album. So there you go.

It's sort of a mess in terms of everyone starting to pull in their own direction, but a beautifully made mess. The production is like a one gun salute for the end of the 60s and a starting pistol for the 70s.

Absolute classic. One of the best albums of all time. Somehow even after countless listens, hearing again feels fresh. It's just great, front to back.

Side one starts out strong with Come Together and mostly keeps it going except for Maxwells Silver Hammer and Because. But the medley of side two is just vastly superior. No duds, all hits to me. To top all that off we get alternating guitar solos from John and Paul and a drum solo from Ringo on The End? Pretty great

It's Abbey Road

Timeless, although if it were to be dropped nowadays, people would be biased, be it people defending the comeback of 70s sound or people calling them wanna-be’s. Every song, nevertheless, goes strait to the point. Hard as concrete.

Ah, yes, Abbey Road. Certainly this album has two of the best songs to open an album in "Come Together" and "Something". George Harrison's two contributions along make this album a five. I still go back and forth on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", from its OK to an indulgence of Paul McCartney. Still I will be forgiving of the minor imperfections...

I like late Beatles and this is some of their best. I especially like how several of the songs flow seamlessly into each other.

The Beatles have a lot of masterpieces, and this is definitely one of them. It’s obviously iconic and for good reason. They were close to the end, and this is such a great example of how they evolved as a band and as people over the course of their time together. It feels like a culmination of their journey from bubble gum boy band to trippy acid hippies to this more mature and sophisticated sound. It’s deep and emotional, and musically, it’s pretty damn amazing.

Amazing album! So many great hits here and a few new ones for me. I had never heard this album all the way through. Even without considering how it must’ve been received back in ‘69, this album delivers!

Amazing album

Without looking some people here will be going 'Oohhh look at me, I'm going to give it a 1 because I'm so edgy.' Well shut your fat Croatian mouth. You're not even real.

Masterpiece, i love it, is amazing and awesome

This is so stunningly good

It’s Abbey Road, there’s not much more to say. Strange, diverse, catchy; the whole package. A trip to be sure.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Don't like every part of it, but especially the end medley is amazing.

I could go on at length about this. You could write it off today as “The Beatles are overrated” but take a step back and think. This was NEW in 1969 nobody else was doing it better (I’m not saying no-one else was doing it. People influence and copy others all the time. Just look at Sgt. Pepper). This was pushing the boundary on what popular music could be! Sitting through this album was a joy and even though I had listened to it countless times before, I still get chills when I reach “The End”. “Her Majesty” only serves as the Cigarette after sex.

Hard to deny the classic status Flows so well and never becomes boring or uninventive, peaking with that medley

The last few tracks are maybe the best ending stretch of songs on any album. Golden Slumbers still makes me emotional.

really hard to not give this a 5 for number of reasons. One of the greatest and deserves top 3 placement (although Dark Side is the Best). If you have lived under a rock for all these years, you are about to listen to a treat!

10/10 no notes

One of the best albums ever made

Look, if I give this album anything less than 5 stars, I'm pretty sure my partner will leave me. However, it is genuinely a very good album, so this poses no problems for me. Favourites: Here Comes the Sun, Come Together, Octopus's Garden, the medley. Don't like: Maxwell's Silver Hammer (there it is, the secret is out - but given that 3/4 band members also hated this song I feel justified).

Some of Lennon's songs are unfinished. There are other places where the coming disintegration shows through. But it's still wonderfully, gloriously, The Beatles. Easily their best album since their Rubber Soul-Revolver-Sgt Pepper peak.

Obviously a great album but the ‘best album of all time’ isn’t going to have maxwells hammer and octopuses garden on it… sorry

Their best work after they called it quits. Of all their albums, this one always stands out as my favorite. George deserved better.

If you need my review of Abbey Road to convince you to listen to it, you’re already lost.

This is a hard one to rate. On the one hand, Side A is among the best album sides in history, with only the blues part of I Want You not being top notch. On the other hand, not a fan of the first three parts of the medley. At the end of the day, the highs are so high, the production so good, the playing and singing so excellent, that I can’t not hand out 5 stars

Yes, of course it’s good.

An easy and uncontroversial 5, of course. Even with Octopus's Garden.

Iconic

I would give 6 stars if that were an option.

So good!!

A great album! It might not be my favorite Beatles album, but I don't think that alone should make me not give it 5 stars!

My favorite Beatles record. Something is a perfect song. I always loved the big side 2 medley, and Paul’s vocals on Oh Darling. Also so many great basslines on this album, I also love all the parts in the arrangements. Least favorite tunes are octopuses garden, and her majesty. The George Benson and Booker T MG’s versions of this album are both favorites of mine.

Not a 5 in real life but def in this game. Oh Darlin is my favorite Beatles song and the outro of I Want You is so good

there's a reason this is top rated!!!

2nd to Revolver

it’s Abbey Road

Nothing can be said about this album that hasn't already been said. I think the back half of this album is perfect, and the first near-to.

I just want to say that the review below is WRONG I copied and pasted the wrong review in. Linkin Park is LAME, there is no music more lame and cringe. Hated it. As for Abbey Road - WONDERFUL. What an incredibly array of song writing. So varied. Interesting. Just fucking solid. It's a classic for a reason

Great stuff of course, it's fabulous. Don't know what else to say. I think Come Together is probably one of the top 3 Beatles songs in my opinion.

Masterpiece

Iconic. Filled with great tracks from start to finish. There is nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said about Abbey Road. A must listen for any music lover.

Fantastic

If you're rating this anything less than 4, your ears don't work

Never heard of these guys but I think they're going places

Fantastic album all the way through but definitely has a hot start. My favorite is “Something”

Top 10 favorite albums of all time. Classic.

cannot be unbiased about this one. been one of my favorite albums for most of my life. the production on this one is immaculate, to this day it still sounds amazing. the songwriting is incredible - john, paul, george, and EVEN ringo firing on all cylinders. this album is really the pinnacle and the perfect ending for the beatles as a group. just a tremendous accomplishment of an album, despite the fact that the band was perhaps at its most splintering.

First time I've actually listened to this. Some incredible songs obviously, and some that are good but not great.

Brilliant masterpiece. Some of the greatest songs ever. How could it not be one of the greatest albums ever!

No notes. It's a perfect album

Legendary album.

sorry jeremy

Gotta say, especially after hearing older Beatles, I get the hype.

Opening up with "Come Together" it just hits you with the bass. After that it's a ride, Something, oh darling, I want you, each of these songs is great on its own, then put with the rea tod the album, the whole thing is great. They threw on Maxwells silver hammer and octopus garden to get the wierd beatles quirkiness in there, but then you get Here Comes the Sun, and the entire medley, all the songs seamlessly melded together into one big ending. And it is definitely an ending, that huge piano chord to end the whole thing. BRILLIANT, possibly the best Beatles album

Life is too short to review this album. I'll just listen...

Epic record! Creative, inspirational and ground-breaking!

Hot take, but this and Let it Be are the Beatles' best work IMO. Great variety, with so many iconic tracks. Has to be 5 star

I’m partial to Revolver and Rubber Soul but I can’t deny that this is up there as one of the greatest.

It's good.

A lot of variation and all of it is great. Favorite song: here comes the sun.

Whats not to like :)

A terrific album.

This album is always a bittersweet listen for me, but in a beautiful way. The music is outstanding, but you get the sense that this is a bookend - that it will never happen again, the Beatles recording as a unit. "And in the end / The love you take / Is equal to the love you make." Bittersweet. Beautiful.

Classic. Starts with a banger in Come Together. Love Something too. This album has an unreal tracklist. God I love Here Comes the Sun.

Arguably one the greatest rock/pop albums ever recorded. There's nothing more that really needs to be said. 5 stars for me.

Abbey Road is an experience, but try explaining that to my friend Dave. He thinks 'Golden Slumbers' is a mattress commercial.

Medleyen når høydene til "A Day in the Life".

One of the all time best!

My favorite album of all time 10/5

900 albums until I reached one of the finest of them all. Much has been written already. 2 additional reasons to make this one of the all time best. 1. The first time I heard side 2 of this album was on the radio in 80s. I was blown away. 2. You must watch Get Back. Apart from brilliant tvo, they compose most of this album too

I actually really enjoyed this, and no, I won’t elaborate.

Awesome

This Octopus seems like a pretty chill guy

I really enjoyed this one. I’d never heard some of the songs before, either.

Perfect

Perfect!

It’s a classic for a reason.

I bought four Beatles albums and the red/blue compilations but not this one. Time, finance and space made it impossible to buy everything! I knew and loved the singles but hadn't heard the full album until Joe told me how great it is a few years ago and I listened on Spotify. From 'Come Together' and 'Something' to 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer', from the sublime to the ridiculous? It doesn't matter because almost every track is sublime, the flow on the second half is perfect. They are firing on all four cylinders. Three of the finest song writers in one band, it's just ridiculous. But it's not just the songs, or the voices, their playing on this album is amazing, across a variety of styles and textures, with such creativity. They are all on top form including Ringo whose drumming here is so cool and distinctive. Collective genius at work, and for me this is not even their best album!! No band will ever compare ❤️

To me it’s unbelievable that Here Comes The Sun, Come Together, Something, and Golden Slumbers (four legendary rock tracks), are all on the same album - and yet still somehow get overshadowed by Octopus’s Garden. P.S. I enjoy The End a lot because it is the only Beatles song where all 3 guitarists do a guitar solo. They trade off during that instrumental section!

I like Maxwell’s Silver Hammer ok, shoot me

The amount of incredible music that the Beatles released in the short period between 65-70 is staggering- especially compared to most major acts now that release an album every other year- maybe. Easy 5

arguably their best and most popular album. probably the Beatles at their peak

Yeah, strong. I realize I don't listen much to Beatles "albums" as opposed to mixes, and I really should do that. Ok I'll do that more.

Absolute heavyweight album in so many ways. I don't really have words. This belongs as one of the greatest musical accomplishments ever.

You don't hear the medley used in an album so much any more...

Loved the transition

One of my favourites from the Beatles. I even like Maxwell's Silver Hammer!

Perfection.

Abbey Road was a real good album to revisit. I think it opened a new era for The Beatles, in witch they become more explorational through their music.

One of my all time favorite albums. Especially George’s contributions, and the Side B suite.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

YESYESYESYESYESYES so good omg

One of the best. Still holds up decades later.

When I first started collecting records, I always thought Abbey Road was overpriced and overhyped. The more I've listened to the Beatles, though, I've come to learn that a lot of my favorite songs come from this album, and this is some of their best artistry. I honestly don't really have anything negative to say about this album, other than a couple of the songs don't sit in the same tier as the rest, but is that really a complaint if the songs are still very good? Favorite song(s): Come Together, Oh! Darling, Octopus's Garden, Here Comes the Sun

Somehow I hadn't heard Abbey Road before but here we are. It's a really good album and it's clear why it was and still is one of the Beatles most influential works. I love "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" which seems like proto stoner rock.

Yes, it's that good.

How anyone could give this anything by 5 is beyond me.

It's the Beatles. It's Abbey Road. It's not my favorite Beatles album (that would be Let It Be...Naked), but it is a great album. There has been so much written about the Beatles, and this album that anything that I would say would be extraneous.

It feels over the top to call the second side of Abbey Road the pinnacle of all human existence, but also correct. For this particular listen I tuned in on a very scratched vinyl copy, which really added to the experience. Imagine hearing this record for the first time! Imagine listening to She's So Heavy and considering that this is the band that six years earlier had been the She Loves You moptops! It's insanity. Every aspect of this album is so perfectly considered and realised, and like always, the fact that this is my thousandth listen doesn't stop me noticing new things. The thrum of the bass throughout Come Together, the handclaps in Here Comes The Sun and the sheer joy of the harmonies on Octopus Garden (a stellar entry for Ringo by the way, and made even better after watching Get Back). The hard part, as ever, was picking a favourite track. It could be Something - the greatest love song of all time. It could be Here Comes The Sun - what an album George had by the way. It could be McCartney's vocal performance on Oh Darling even (it isn't that, to be fair). And then, when all is said and done, you have the medley. Scraps of genius from the two finest artists of their or any other lifetimes, melded together by the greatest producer the world has ever seen to form more than the sum of its parts. Ultimately, I've gone for The End, the closing, majestic pinnacle of the medley, signing off the Beatles career in perfect, spine-tingling style. All three guitarists getting their turn in the spotlight, their beloved Ringo having his first ever drum solo, and then the line that sums up the band, the era, the movement they did more than anyone to kickstart and the decade itself. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. And then, because they're perfect and recognise that life's a bit of fun, they chuck in Her Maj, just to take the edge off. What an album, and I've not even mentioned Golden Slumbers, which makes me well up just thinking about the purity of Paul's vocal when he first sings the chorus.

I mean… we all know how I feel about this album <3

A classic

It’s the most mainstream of tastes to love The Beatles. But I do! This is hands down one of my favorite albums of all time. Just a great listen from start to finish. Even the goofy stuff is awesome. 5/5

these guys are pretty good

Day 15 - June 16, 2024 It's Abbey Road. Instant 5/5.

The Beatles. Enough said.

Beatles. Muchos megahits. Vinilo.

It's Abbey Road. Oh Darling fucks harder than your mom on a first date.

Knew I would give 5 stars ofc but it was great to listen yesterday all the way through

5 STARS!!!!!! One of the greatest albums ever recorded!!

Again, embarrassingly, a new experience to hear Beatles songs in the context of their album. Wonderful! The medley is so good. No surprise to see it highest rated.

Abbey Road (Said in the tone of "Earl Grey". IYKYK)

I've not listened to this one in a while. Every song is so good in a different way. Transcendent.

Another long-overdue listen for me... a masterpiece that I completely enjoyed.

Pretty great all around

Classic. So many styles to influence thousands that came after

Perfect. My other favorite Beatles.

Didn’t realize how jazzy beastie boys went. Thoroughly enjoyed it

How could someone not like this

I’ve known every word of Abbey Road for years anyway, but thought I should listen again, still brilliant, thank you to the Beatles

RAAHHH BEATLES RAAAAHHHHH THEBLIKE BUGS ON THE CROSSWAKK RAAAH

One of the greatest albums of all time bar none. Excellent from track to track and the perfect swansong album to one of the greatest bands to ever live

5 of course :-)

In a class of its own

CLASSIC!!!

Rating: 10/10 One of the greatest albums of all time. This collection of songs is something truly special, some of the band's best songs are on this album. The songwriting, melodies, and production on this album are legendary and the medley is absolutely genius. Besides Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Because, every other song is perfect. A timeless classic.

So didn’t really have to think too hard when rating this one. Come Together, Something and I Want You are just fucking brilliant songs

Perfection

this is the record which every other record on this list is measured against.

Perfection. The sound of The Beatles going out on fucking top. I Want You (She's So Heavy) such a great side A ender.

If only every band’s final album is as good as this. Definitely more of a McCartney album than a Lennon one but I don’t mind.

Really enjoyed this. Songs were upbeat and some of the Beatles best.

Waar 'Sgt. Het vliegt daarna toch eindelijk even uit de bocht tijdens de rauwe blues van 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)'. I like it. 9/10 Highlights: Something I Want You (She's So Heavy) Because Golden Slumbers

All time classic. All time favorite. Beste Beatles plaat? 9,5/10 Highlights Something I Want You Here Comes the Sun Golden Slumbers

In my opinion, top ten album of all time

Perfection.

C’mon, THE classic album of all time. With the exception of one song that shall not be named it is back-to-back perfect. Side 2 is the stuff of legend.

Legendary

Always a classic!!!

Hahaha! I finally got the number 1!! After 823 others...... I have listened to this a zillion times before and I guess after a while your objectivity wanes but it's so comfortable I gave it another plays. Hard to imagine they were all at loggerheads at the time. Maybe that helped and made it more 'edgy'? … And in the end The love you take Is equal to the love you make

GOAT!!!!!

The Beatles final album (recorded) where George Harrison is allowed to shine with two of the best songs which also happen to be among the best of the entire Beatles catalog. Side 2's medley is brilliant. Easily a classic.

Great album. Amazing how many songs on it were popular singles that I know well already.

One of the GOATs

Kommentarer överflödiga.

Una obra maestra. Los Beatles en su prime, especialmente Harrison.

I kept waiting for this album to be overrated, bit damn is it good. Even silly stuff like Octopus's Garden sound great, what the hell. There is some tonal whiplash throughout this album, like going from I Want You (She's So Heavy) into Here Comes the Sun, and then into Because right after. But you can totally feel each member's contributions to what make this so good.

There is nothing I can say about this album that hasn't already been said a 1000 different ways.

just in case you didn’t know, this was recorded after the Let it Be (or “Get Back”) sessions. It shows that they stayed at the top of their game till the end. Literally till The End (one of my favorite songs on this album.) George Harrison was clearly coming into his own, as he contributes Something and Here Comes the Sun.

Stone cold solid album

There’s a couple tracks to question but otherwise this album is great. The songs tend to blend and the whole vibe carries through. Musically every beatle is on point and everyone has one of their’s on here.

Classics

Of the countless staples in the lineage of The Beatles, this may be their most seminal record. When you start off a 17-track record with 2 timeless classics in "Come Together" and "Something", you know you're in for a treat. This album also boasts showing multiple sides of The Beatles aura, mixing off-beat, whimsical tracks like "Octopus's Garden" and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" with the vulnerable "Here Comes The Sun" (my personal favorite song of their catalog). This album builds wonderfully into the iconic, well-flowing trilogy to end the record of "Golden Slumbers", "Carry That Weight", and "The End". With all these elements together, to me, it doesn't get better in the pantheon of The Beatles. 10/10

A masterpiece. Timeless and a classic for a reason. Vocals, songwriting, instruments, production all top notch. 9/10 (4.5/5)

Very easily a 5-star album. Possibly my favorite Beatles album.

Blending genres (the rocking funk of 'Come Together,' the folk softness of 'Here Comes the Sun') in a way that feels oddly seamless - almost as seamless as the medly of songs that make up the 2nd half of the album. They're at the top of their game here, pretty much - even if it broke them apart.

Además de las citadas, me gusta especialmente "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" y entre las menos aclamadas me gusta mucho "You Never Give Me Your Money", "Carry That Weight" y la extrañamente bella "Octupus's Garden", compuesta y cantada por Ringo.

easy one - the perfect album. I've got something to say about each and every one of these tracks - that something is an argument for why it's the greatest song ever told (it's not cheating to refer to the B-side medley as one song, right?) Maxwell's Silver hammer even deserves credit, GOATed granny song and WHAT WAS GOING ON IN PAUL'S HEAD? Octopus' Garden, as I've said before: We must consider Ringo brilliant, a genius even. She's so heavy? Put some headphones on and realise this is the great masterpiece of the Beatles. Well you know, I nearly broke down and cried. Something - greatest love song ever told and there's a reason a Harrisong has the most streams with HCTS. And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Whilst always great in small doses, I usually tire of the Beatles if I hear more than a few tracks in a row. This was certainly an exception, every song is fantastic, all songs work well together and I wasn't grated by the vocals like I usually am. It's nice to have a highly rated album truly live up to the hype. 4.5

I notoriously dislike the Beatles, and I believe every song on Abbey Road is as close to “objectively perfect” as you can get in music. Yes, including “Maxwell's Silver Hammer.”

Gah, I love it. It’s been a while. I listened to the remastered version with headphones while out on a walk and I swear, I was smiling the entire time. The organ on I Want You, the guitar and strings on Here Comes the Sun, the bass always, the harmony on Because, the bass drum on Come Together. All of it. So great. 5.0

It's a great record. There's something for everyone -- heavy rockers, lush vocal harmonies, enduring classics. It's great. Their first true stereo album, so some spots are a little rough, but it's still pretty unassailable. IMO it's the best Beatles album. 5.0

Pretty good. I knew a lot of the songs although I’ve never actually listened to it as an album. A couple songs were cut off though so I give it a 4.5.

way to go out on a low note guys…

One of the albums I give 5 stars before listening to (again).

Classic! Last one is a good one! All I can say.

What a fitting end to the Beatles’ recording career. Songwriting and musicianship on full display. Perfect variety of styles to represent and showcase each member of the group. Innovative recording techniques. Just perfect.

Probably my all time fav Beatles album. So many of these songs are iconic hits

Tsja, is wel echt een topper. 4.5je naar boven afgerond

Classic - fantastic album - loved it!

Nothing I can say that hasn't been said. IMO greatest album of all time, no skips, all bangers.

There isn't much to be said about this album that hasn't already been said. The first half is classic after classic and the second is one of the most fun runs of songs in the history of music. It's probably only my 4th or 5th favourite Beatles album but it's hard not to consider it an all-time great. And that's even when you allow for Octopus's Garden.

This album is weird and feels inconsistent at times, but it absolutely slaps. 5/5

Never heard of these guys before. They’re not bad.

Best Beatles

Yeah, I mean. I didn’t have to listen to this today to know every track.

Timeless classic. Not much more else needs to be said.

The run of great Friday albums continues. This is the best Beatles album in my opinion. It should feel disjointed given they were basically taking turns writing their own songs but they all work together somehow. I even like Maxwell’s silver hammer.

an all timer with a classic medley. obviously one of their best.

Genial und immer zeitlos

I'm pleased to see Abbey Road is the #1 album on this site. I've long thought that, although Sgt Pepper and Revolver have most of the hype as being the albums that made the Beatles great, Abbey Road is the one that's most enjoyable. It really has everything I love about them.. John's invention and weirdness, Paul's storytelling and cohesion, the highlights of George and Ringo's songwriting with the band. The medley is clearly the greatest album 'side' ever, those songs bring pure joy and beauty every time I listen to it, which is a lot of times by now! Not sure if it's my favourite album ever, it's probably in a tie with OK Computer and After The Goldrush. Tricky, but Abbey Road is incredible and obviously 5 stars

Great tunes, some are way too short.

Easy 5 stars

Even Maxwell's Silver Hammer can't get me to drop this from 5 stars to 4.

This album still blows my mind a little bit every time I listen to it.

dave maynar is a dummy. Is she so heavy the first stoner rock song?

first full listen, crazy enough. it's easy to see why this record is so *important*. there's a few stinkers but the highs are as high as it gets

I mean, great. But also could do without maxwell silver hammer and the octopus one. Still gets 5

This has always been my favourite Beatles album. Amazing that all these songs are on one record?! And they broke up pretty soon after this! IMAGINE being around when this came out. I’d have had to stay home for a few days I reckon. I love how they’re not making it to please anyone at all, just doing whatever the fuck they want. So many experimental elements here, from recording to songwriting, to structure… absolutely fucking mind blowing.

First of all- great album cover, iconic and impactful. There are so many great songs amidst band turmoil and at the brink of members quitting the band is an impressive feat. My favorite tracks are Something, Oh! Darling, and I love the Golden Slumbers to Carry That Weight pairing. I listen to Polythene Pam the least but I started to hear a bit of a glam rock quality to it - very short song but good transition to next song. Not a single song on this album I’d skip.

Considered the GOAT for a reason. I actually only came around on this album in the last year. When I was in my Beatles era I always thought this one felt like a bunch of half baked ideas for songs. I guess knowing it only from CD/iTunes where songs are broken up will do that. I got it on vinyl last year and it really made sense. Oh Darling is about my favourite late period Beatles tune. I am very happy that Here Comes the Sun is the most played Beatles song on Apple Music and Spotify. With how much has been made of the Lennon/McCartney writing partnership it’s Harrison who has the standout.

What a great album to start off! Honestly only got into recently The Beatles as of April 12, 2024 (grew up with it). Love Come Together and Octopus's Garden already and of course Here Comes the Sun is a classic. Looking forward to the other songs I have yet to hear. FINAL NOTES: I LOVE MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER WITH HOW DARKLY UPBEAT IT IS, stupid catchy. Listened to it like 5 times the absolute GOAT.

there is little to no doubt that this album is absolutely one of the greatest albums ever created. It's staying power, creativity, and breadth is unparalleled. Easiest 5.

One of my fave albums of all time. Listened to this endlessly when I was 16. 12/10 absolutely perfect. I don’t need to listen to it because I know it by heart but… I did anyways. A pleasure. Listened 3x in a row

Little wonder the world fell in love with them!

It’s Abbey Road by the Beatles

I mean. Come on. Often my answer when I name the GOAT album from the GOAT band. Desert island disc, for sure. This belongs in its own category, but I consider it in my top 2, and sometimes #1. If it was only the medley, I’d give it 5. But you also get a bunch of other classics ahead of that. Like, each half of this album is 5 stars. So… 10/5.

absolutely unexpected, absolute fire. fav: “Oh! Darling”

I mean duh

huurrr i wonder if abbey road is good.

Outstanding

The medley is underrated as fuck. I wonder why is this not a famous part of the Beatles discography.

It's perfect. Obviously. Half the songs are all-time classics, and the rest is a part of one huge medley that is itself an all-time classic. Best songwriting, production and pacing in perhaps any 60s album. Unbeatable.

5 perfect album

One of the most Perfect album of all Time !!!!!

Yeah it's darn good

the best

Bangers bangers bangers

Damn this really is one of the greatest albums of all time. The last recorded Beatles album, where Paul convinced the band to record an album like they did in the old days, with George Martin at the wheel. Culminates in some of the best songs in their whole catalog, assembled in a cohesive and flowing way. My favorites on this are “something”, “oh darling”, and the whole last suite. The only song that I’m kind of skeptical of is Maxwell, but even that is produced very nicely and fits the vibe of the album. Might be my favorite album of theirs. Throwback to when I had a poster of abbey road in hs

Total masterpiece alert!! The beatles ability to experiment and play around with different sounds and have it sound good is something to be studied. The first side has a ridiculous amount of bangers (dont love maxwell’s hammer tho sry paul), and i absolutely love side 2’s medley, just the gang flexing their raw musical talent. Only complaint is that her majesty should have gone in its original placement and it should be twice as long, that song is awesome. Even still, fantastic album.

4.6/5 Best Track: Something

What to say about something for which so much has already been said and accepted? On the singles alone this exists in rarefied air. Come Together, Something, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and Here Comes The Sun are all genre staples, and each has a completely distinct sound. Come Together with its effortlessly cool, bass-led melody and distant vocals. Something with a wistful and bright trot. Here Comes the Sun on an upbeat finger-plucked guitar ditty that was made for the first days of spring and wide open fields of grass. And my personal favorite I Want You (She's So Heavy) featuring the soulful and moody guitar work and tempo play. Dipping beyond the singles, there is a diverse sampling. Maxwell's Silver Hammer giving a shining and absurd instrumental plonk to lyrics about a serial killer. Because interpolates the guitar melody of I Want You, but flips it into a more psychedelic affair with the harpsichord and spaced out harmonizing. Then there is Sun King is a beautifully harmonized, calm psychedelic adventure; love it. The back half of the album lacks a bit of the energy of the first, but the songs are great; I just find them to be a bit more forgettable with the exception of Golden Slumbers -> Carry That Weight that work so damned well as a two-parter. This is a timeless album that, in my view, deserves all of its rightfully earned praise. Easy 5 / 5.

Amazing album. I listened to this a lot growing up so these song definitely mean a lot.

Every song is a banger. Every member gets a moment to shine, especially in The End which I love. Carry That Weight is a favorite of mine, especially with the transition into The End. Octopus's Garden is another favorite. It's crazy how many Beatles songs are so familiar when I have never really done a deep dive on them. I feel like you could put this on during any road trip with any human and they will enjoy it.

Quintessential Beatles for me. Love the goofiness of some of the songs while still being absolute bangers, Octopus Garden and Maxwell's Silver Hammer in particular. There are no misses on this album every single song is great even though they are all so different. I could listen to Here Comes the Sun on repeat all day. Always laugh how The End is not the actual last song, they just had to throw a quick 30 second Her Majesty on for S's and G's.

Listening to this at least once a month

One of my favorite Beatles albums

Is this the Beatles best work? Depends on what you define that as cause honestly this album is more of a compilation of their perfection. Like their earlier albums saw a lot of progression and experimentation with sounds but they weren’t always the most polished. Like the white album is so close but it’s raw in nature which really grabs you. Abbey is like perfect. So it may be that perfection that holds it back cause we get what we want rather than that craving for more. It’s also very much Paul Stylized (which he is known for having that perfection sounding album) that really defines this one. There is no bad song on this one and although some might disagree, this is my favorite Beatles record. So hard to rank. 🥇Something 🥈I want you 🥉Golden Slumbers HM: Octopus Garden

Crazy to think that I have dived so far into this bands solo release catalog, that I have never heard (in full) one of their most acclaimed projects. With that said, I don't have much to compare to for previous records, but here is what I enjoy about this album: Each member gets their fair share of the spotlight Nobody is over shining the other- I feel like the performances from each member are on par with the other. I like that we get to see the diverse styles of each member: John's rock & roll influence, Paul's pop influences, and George's slow and seductive style. It's really hard to pick favorites from this record, as most of them are just smash hits that I have unintentionally heard millions of times just because of the popularity of the group. I really enjoy Something, as it is one of my favorite George songs ever. I also really enjoyed The end, and Oh Darling quite a bit!

You knew this was a 5 but I am not gonna give my opinion on this album in protest: okay i will say though all bangers (5 interwoven songs is amazing) while I would have loved a concept ala sgt peppers this does not miss. PROTEST: I felt really sad listening to this record. I took to this challenge wanting to extend my music taste and while that has happened, I feel like with this album being the highest rated on the site and me anticipating a Monday album I just got sad. I listen to a lot of music more than average for sure, so I am realizing that one day I won't have time to listen to every single album or even every single classic and with the finite time I have on this planet I am ultimately am glad I am doing this to expand my reach and understanding of music as a whole.

There's a great Jack White interview where he claims to not trust anyone who likes the Beatles. Fair point (he also makes it about zeppelin, which is a little more questionable) - I see revisionists/poseurs all the time claim the Beatles are overrated, or they just don't get them but charitably at best they are doing it for attention, or at worst are missing some fundaments in their ability to appreciate music, cause these boys in their prime are something else. Always compare any post 60s album described as innovative/diverse to this or the white album and it will likely come up short or be a retread of something these boys already did. Prefigured short attention spans of the tik tok era with the 1 minute songs stitched together. Everypones firing on all cylinders. Bitching ringo drum lines. I even like silver hammer and octupuses garden.

My personal favorite era for the Beatles, also a very nostalgic record, and has a sound that made me want to keep playing in bands.

This album was awesome. I liked it a lot more than the previous Beatles record we got - "With The Beatles". The sound is totally different and the songs are a lot more interesting and varied. The album has literally billions of listens on Spotify for a good reason. 9/10.

Best Beatle album

genius. of course

Almost feels a continuation of the White Album, the songs so good and rich and varied. The song cycle on side 2 among the best and most interesting things they did, though one wishes each of the individual cuts were longer. It's an embarrassment of diverse riches – Ringo doing amusing little cartoon/kids’ book songs (“Octopus’ Garden” may be the best of the lot), Lennon going deep and raw in the blues, Paul exploring his more creative side (e.g., "Maxwell's," “Golden Slumbers“) George not contributing a ton but delivering a gem of the highest order, (“Here Comes the Sun” which is so much better than the treacly “Yesterday” and perhaps the tops of all the excessively played ballads [“Let It Be” being the silver medalist]; indeed, it’s simple and strong and relatable poetry, not vague sentimental verse). Nearly astonishing the level of quality (in spite of the indulgence) this late on in such a high-pressure career which was of course all disintegrating so fast.

Obviously 5 stars

who tf doesnt like abbey road

I mean duh

Undeniably brilliant!

One the Beatles best albums. So many good songs on the album. Once you have listened to the album the only thing to do is listen to it again. A must have in any music library.

Judging a Beatles album is never easy because the legend of the band is almost impossible to live up to. That said I will do my best. Side note, Paul McCartney is a better musician than John Lennon and that fact would upset him. This album was really good, very few dips in quality throughout and the energy remains fairly consistent. They also switch up the mood of songs throughout to keep the listener engaged. Golden Slumbers and Carry the Weight really bring the back end of the album up. I can see why this album is so well regarded and the influence it had on music cannot be understated.

The Beatles definitely have a couple better albums than this. The hits are obviously great songs, but then Maxwell's silver hammer and Octopuses garden just take me out of it. The medley sounds great as well. I think this album gets rated so highly because it was the bands last. Not implying it's a bad album by any stretch, but at times it's too goofy and overly simplistic. 4.5/5 but I'll round up since I believe it's better than a 4.

I LOVE THE BEATLES!!!!! Very happy to br listening to this rn!! I think it's a perfect album. Maybe album of all time... the songs are amazing and catchy!! The vocals and basically everything about it is so special to me. I don't remember when was the last time I listend to it but man... this is so beautiful

I absolutely love this album, which is also my favourite Beatles album. There are so many truly wonderful pieces. Even the songs which are often considered to be duds still do it for me. One of the absolute all time greats. Hugely important album to me too, lots of wonderful memories with this on in the background.

Famous last words!

One of the greatest albums of all time Very fun songs and good medley at the end

Banger mais pas le meilleur des Beatles
