Did not enjoy. Low 2.
Too much for me! 2 stars
I didn't like the lead vocal's voice, and the lyrics didn't match what I think they were attempting to do with their "vibe" as a band.
This is just bland, with any interesting influence from the singer being in Drive Like Jehu only being viewed through some decent guitar licks and perhaps a lyric or two. Otherwise, its hard not to see this as anything more than a predecessor to groups like Bowling for Soup and other pseudo-pop-punk outfits. Its harmless most of the time (although his voice can be rough) and the addition of horns reminds me of Alice Cooper more than anything, but this is nothing special, and would fail to stand out in a line-up of other garage rock groups from the time.
Fun for a bit but gets samey
Kinda sounds like if Elvis Costello decided to do an Hüsker Dü record. In my case that's not a good thing.
I really don't find anything appealing to punk rock.
too many bpm for a Monday morning
- Never heard of this so had no idea what it was going in - Not a bad album but nothing really stood out to me - Pretty run of the mill punk rock really
Listened to it and can't remember a single track. It didn't stand out as bad just forgettable. I might have to revisit this one sometime and give it another chance.
Derivative ordinary.
Its easy to listen to. And thats really it. Nothing particularly stands out. Not really a fan
😑🥱😴
That was a tough 44 minutes to get through.
Not a huge fan but better than others
This shit ain’t nothing to me man
I don’t know what it is with this record. Usually I love punk rock but I could not stand this particular record. Just an average sounding 90s major label punk record.
Ganske kjipt og raspete
Gav meg litr
Not my cup of tea
Commercial hardcore style music. Ahead of the trend, being released in 1995. Individually some of the tracks are quite catchy and have good energy. As a whole album of the same thing, its a bit much. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: On a Rope Date listened: 17/01/24
Not really into screaming
"On a Rope" was catchy and sounded like these guys actually tried to write a song rather than focus on two chords for the entire track. They sound like a heavier mix of Green Day, Elvis Costello, and the Ramones. It also sounds like they are trying too hard and they just can't pull it off. Even the tracks that sounded like they had a good hook to them never really went anywhere.
How is this must listen to. It’s perfectly average, at best. I like On The Rope but there are 100s of albums just like one 4.8/10
It’s never a good sign when you think you’re starting to enjoy the album only to find it has stopped and Spotify is recommending you better music. This mostly just sounded like noise to me, but Come See, Come Saw was something approaching the vague notion of a decent song.
Mediocre 90’s punk rock, didn’t do anything for me.
It was alright. Maybe if have looked it if i few up on the 90s
Helt bra straight forward punk rock On a rope cool track
2.4 - Bad and boring as this is, the thing I hate most about this shitty, obnoxiously loud record, is that it makes me feel like it’s beneath my consideration, like I shouldn’t even be thinking about it. It’s a booger you flick, or a fart you sneakily pass at the grocery store.
First song has really nice punky energy. I was kinda surprised to hear the horns come in on Born in '69! The singer's voice is so-so, it's pop-punk adjacent, but has a little more of a "dude" edge to it. This pairs nicely with the Fishbone album. I'm on track 13 now, and the vocals are really starting to wear on me. This also has a bit of that trite Gen X humor, like Come See, Come Saw. Idk, I got real sick of this by the end.
not for me
90’er punk rock, ikke noget specielt
Not a very engaging album for me. Listened once, didn't really find anything that stood out. Seemed to me very straight-ahead rock punk with a rhythm that didn't catch me. Vocals weren't to my liking. 2/5.

We were pleasantly surprised when it got better... Only to realise the album had finished. Really not our vibe, though partly because that genre requires you to be in a certain mood and trying to force it was not very successful.
There are a lot of good hardcore punk albums out there. While this one isn't bad, it wasn't notable in any way. All of the songs meld together. 2/5
On a rope is a classic, not sure what makes it work so well it just does. Rest didn't really grab me but songs are short which helps
It was an ok punk rock album, have no clue how it's one of the 'best 1001 albums'
Pretty basic punk rock, doesn't ruffle my feathers
Nothing really stood out to me as particularly interesting or notable, but I didn't hate it.
good listen but nothing special to me at least
Huh...never heard of it, kind of surprising this is on the list. I guess just another example of how UK-centric this list is. Some unremarkable American 90’s punk band that was big in the UK… There are about a dozen 1995 punk albums I’d put over this one. I can’t believe this is on the list but not “...And Out Come the Wolves” by Rancid. Other punk bands with solid albums in 1995: Jawbreaker, Lagwagon, Vandals, Good Riddance, NUFAN, Millencolin, Red Aunts, Less Than Jake, Pennywise, Frenzal Rhomb... It's not terrible... but this is definitely not great. I'm going 2 on this one.
On a Rope is a decent track, the rest of so-so
26th September 2023 Listened on the way to Costco a day late. Visit to nursery in the afternoon. College sounding 90s punk with brass. 2.5 if I could.
I have never heard of this band before, probably because they were drowned out by so many of the rock powerhouses during the '90s. And rightfully so, because this is a pretty subpar version of '90s rock. I can see what they're going for - there's a punk rock, Ramones vibe with the incessant energy and unwavering noise, but that sound doesn't work for everyone. This album could've used a few peaks and valleys for the actual sound, because the only peaks and valleys I observed were with regards to the quality. You wait nearly half of the album to get to a good song with Ball Lightning & Fat Lip, but after that it stumbles again. There's another good track with Burnt Alive, but what a bummer because that's the last song on the album. But then again, if the record is as inconsistent as this then maybe it's best to just get it over with.
Pretty solid “meh”. Back half of the album grew on me a bit. Don’t think it warrants a second play through to find out.
Somewhat interesting, at times.
-Born in 69 is a great one -Ooh love the crunchiness of on a rope (crunchy sax??? Sick.) - drop out - great hook, added - ball lightning lyric “want some cheese with your whine?” Woof. Lyrics are definitely the weakest part of this album overall, but that lyric Fucking suuuuucks
90s style punk (ish) with rock&roll (and sometimes country) leanings
Good energy but it just seemed liked one thing over and over...nothing that will stay with me past their cool band name
Generic and dull. Production is pretty bad too.
On a rope, but nothing else worth listening to
They seem like a party band who would have been fun to see at the time, but not really a seminal release that justifies inclusion on this list. And I agree with the other reviewer about Come See Come Saw being a rip-off of 'Know Your Product' from the Saints. Penalty of one star for that.
High 2 star rating. Some fun tracks, some sub par. Whilst their is reasonably broad instrument usage in most tracks, track to track dynamics aren't great which makes it a more tiresome listen than it should be especially as even the few decent tracks never reach anywhere near "incredible" in their own right
I wish I liked this one more, but there was just so little here to latch onto for me. It was punk but not punk enough, rock but not rock enough, Apple Music called this "pop" but nothing popped like that. No hooks or riffs that I'd be able to identify in a line-up, nothing like that. Dangerously generic. I tried it twice to see if I was crazy the first time around but yeah, it just whizzed by without making a strong impression. I've definitely heard the band name before, and I expected something more explosive, if not just more memorable. What we got wasn't technically bad but when I struggle to find much of anything I want to keep it's pretty bad. Favorite tracks: Ball Lightning. Album art: I've definitely seen this one before and think it's really cool. Very simple font style, and the scorpion on an all white background is memorable. Truly, the most memorable thing about the album is this cover. 2/5
2.5
Not really sure why this is in here, mediocre punk
blahska or bunkpunk
Kinda sounds like it's trying to imitate another band but in a really shit way. Wont be revisiting this band
Highlights: Born In '69, On A Rope Leave Em's: Misbeaten, Salt Future, Fat Lip, Burnt Alive Overall Thoughts: I walked away from this album after making it nearly halfway through. Somehow, in the hours that I was gone the album got significantly more listenable... now I'm not saying it's great, but I was ready to write a one star review for it. Some of the songs, especially in the first half actually kind of rock out. It did start going down hill again in the second half around the mid point, and I'm thinking I would've enjoyed this album more if it were twenty minutes shorter. The lack of variety and space is expected from a rock album but it would have been welcome. Upon second listen I do think the bad still outweighs the good, but there is at least something I can point at to appeal for a rating better then bottom of the barrel. Score Breakdown: 2.421 & 2 -> 2.211
Not something I particularly enjoy. The best song in my opinion was the most popular one.
Eh. I've definitely heard worse from the list, but I don't particularly think this needs to be here. Not a huge fan of the vocals either. Pretty solid 2 for me.
Just didn't grip me. Wanted it to end.
I tried to like this, but it just fell a bit short of expectations
I only knew On A Rope already It’s a great song All the rest of these sound just like it And that gets a bit tiresome a bit quickly
All songs felt kind of the same to me. Album cover makes me queasy. + On A Rope + Ball Lightning + Misbeaten
Was not impressed with this one. The first few tracks were good but it starts to get a bit boring after that.
Hints of trumpunk in this one but a bit more raw and grungy. Well produced sound. Nothing really stand out.
It felt too much like one of those bands that you heard in backing music to early 2000's coming of age comedy films with a tiny bit more bass, wasn't really into it
Enjoyable at moments, but overall I didn't care too much for
Meh No.
Gritty and gutty, but far from great, as all the racket adds up to very little. The raucous repetition (near constant) is slightly mitigated by the use of horns here and there and the occasional deployment of something like vocal harmonines (see "Come See, Come Saw," "Misbeaten"). Otherwise, this one-note, tiresome, and mostly forgettable, though it's not hard to see (or hear) how they were probably great live.
Middle- call and response type Next few tracks: Born in ‘69, On A Rope, Young Livers decent enough👍 Drop out- meh Used- this track seemed pretty cheesy Ball Lightning- More of the same Fat Lip- some concept there👍 Heater Hands- this album continues to whelm Misbeaten- I feel like I would like this song if there was an attempt at lyrics Come See, come saw- could’ve been called comme ce comme ca ngl, but I enjoyed👍 Last two songs- same old same old This album was just mediocre for me 2/5
Pretty bad! Almost one star. But there was one song that was ok.
RIpping off Blg Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc.. The question is why..
Boring
I feel pretty well versed in rock/punk, and I'm surprised that I really can't recall ever hearing of this band/record/songs whatsoever. The sound is cool, it's like super modern punk rock with ska elements (35 seconds into track 4) that also gets heavier (36 seconds into track 1). The production is very impressively crisp for 1995. The guitars and drums really sync up well and fit together like puzzle pieces. The compositions just felt OK to me and didn't blow me out of the water. I was curious about this band so I looked up the amount of plays per song on Spotify and they were really low- like way below the average for albums on this 1001 list.
2.5
Not my jam. I respect it however it definitely didn't appeal to me
Has its fun moments but it’s very meh…
This was just a bore of a listen. It wasn’t bad but it was just didnt go anywhere. Did nothing interesting or new and sounded old for ‘95. Overall 5/10
Sounds like an album of Green Day b-sides. And "On a Rope".
The best it can be accused of is breaking old ground.
punk's not dead! well it is now
I don't know why, but I expected more. Guess it's back to "Savoir Faire".
Boring & unoriginal. Lyrics were terrible, but music was ok.
Goes hard but the vocalist is so bad...
Listens: 1 Enjoyed: no Again, just not really for me. Not enough in it to intrigue me for a second listen. The music is pretty cool but the lyrics and voice are just a huge pass
Some of the music was fun, especially a couple of songs towards the end, but I didn't get on with the vocals at all
Hmm, pretty dodgy
Never heard of them, doubt I’ll remember them
The band name, album name, and cover art are all very metal. So I did a double click when I hit play. I was expecting metal which this is not. Good energy but otherwise unremarkable. I like this kind of music when it is fun or cheeky or has something particularly interesting going on. It's fine I guess but why is it on this list?
I'm not a huge fan of punk music and this album didn't really change my opinion of the genre. Just not my thing.
Punk Rock from 1995 First time I've heard this.... 2/5 (really need to listen to it again).
Ummmm, I don’t even know with this one. None of the songs were bops and it was just noise for the most part.
hate it
meh
Niet goed, niet slecht
Hmm, nothing special. Not sure what to think it's really unremarkable and kind of bad.... in my opinion. And I love rock. So idk. I saved Drop Out and On A Rope
There were some moments (for instance, on “On A Rope”), but not many. Overall, meh.
bof
Very 90s sounding alt rock, nothing special
Not my thing, not bad but not good
Maybe more alt than punk, gets a little pop punk for me but love those layered guitars - solid instrumentation. I love the horns and back up vocals but those lead vocals are a little too unoriginal for me - this dude could have easily started smash mouth after this band (not a dis smash mouth rules), I really hate the line "you want some cheese with your wine" . . . the vocals are just sooooo whiney (get it) Standout Tracks: Born in 69,
I had never heard of Rocket from the Crypt before this. For the most part, this album sounds like pretty generic 90s 'pop' punk rock to me, which really isn't my thing (especially the vocals), but the whole effort is at least partially redeemed by those totally unexpected horns, which saves the album from being totally forgettable. I still wouldn't revisit this album again, but I can at least appreciate that it wasn't wholly unoriginal in its execution. Standout tracks: "Born in '69", "Young Livers" and "Come See, Come Saw"
Not for me but ok
I really wanted to like this album, and I did like some of the songs. My issue with this album is that while there are highs, the lows are much lower. I wish there was more ska and I wish there was more punk. The songs I like feel so short, and the songs I hate take forever to get through. If this album was shorter, it might get a three. Best Songs: On a Rope, Young Livers, Misbeaten Worst Songs: Salt Future, Suit City, Ball Lightning
It feels like your typical Garage Band vibe of Punk Rock. It feels... ok? Much of the album could use a bit more work (and especially the singer could use some more training, from the vibes of this album). It's very average and I'm surprised it's included within this list. The only highlights of the album are the song "Young Livers", which had some standout moments, but not really enough to make it worth recommending to anyone, and the last song of the album, "Burnt Alive", which lacks the standout moments of Young Livers but holds up much better through the song as a whole than anything else in the album.
Instrumentations were alright, but no idea why it ended up on this list.
Not my thing
This guy can not sing. Couldn’t make it through the album
unremarkable
homie this is not good
This is all well played, but nothing's really catching me here. Favourites: "On A Rope"
There were some good riffs but nothing really stood out.
Their energy is admirable, and don't mind the horns but the music is so cookie-cutter edgy mid 90s that it is boring as fuck. Like it was made to be on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
I thought the instrumentation was solid throughout the album, but I'm not a fan of the lead singer's voice. Everything was fine, but nothing was particularly catchy or stand out.
They don't start lightly anyway.. More guitar and drums than I usually enjoy, but good to get a change every now and then. Not really my style I don't think. Misbeaten wasn't bad, saved by the cool guitar riff and background synth. The album warmed on me a little bit, but the whole thing wasn't on youtube, and I wasn't too sorry. The use of trumpets throughout the rock is fresh though.
Lively. Shame that on a rope was out the way so early.
WAAAAHAHAHGHHDHHDGGGHGH They all screamed. They danced like worms sprinkled with salt. They made a big mess in the massive mansion. But Dracula didn't scream. He just sat there, unmoved, bored as hell. Should I go out at the next sunrise and end this misery? He thought. He looked back at those men. Still hammering the floor to the same tune. It was disappointing really, they were impressive at the beginning. I miss terrorizing humans, he thought. But I must do what is best... And at that night, Dracula migrated to Hotel Transylvania.
2.5
Ew did not enjoy this. Just a bit cringe and samey for me. That american singing voice that's a bit embars
Not for me
Really disappointing record. Feel it is just anonymous 90s major label punk. Not surprised it didn't catch on in the US. 1.5/5
maybe not as bad as I thought, but definitely not great. I actually thought they were a metal band, so was glad to hear some horns.
Another one I’ve got no idea why it’s on this list. The single ‘On a Rope’ I never liked at the time. I started off not liking this at all, but it did grow on me a bit, but it’s just simply not one of the best signs ever made.
Bit of fun
A lot of energy throughout the album. Limited vocals but decent instrumentals. Ska meets punk sound with brass mixed into drum/electric on most songs. Not the worst thing to listen to but probably won’t come back to this. Ball Lightening, Born in 69, On a Rope 2.5
Non mi fa impazzire, soprattutto il cantante. Mi annoia abbastanza.
ANOTHER band I've never heard of. How in the hell did this end up on the list? Was it like a local battle of the bands to see who gets to open for the 'Stones? I kid. I kid. As rock records go, this sounds cool. There are elements here that remind my of Refused's "The Shape of Punk to Come" and that's great! That record better be on this list if "Scream Dracula Scream" is... All that being said, if I would have heard this in 1995, I would have bought it right away. But the guy's voice kinda sucks. So...2.5 rounded down to 2.
At first I wasn't real impressed with this album, but it grew on me a bit. It's a solid mid-90s punk album with a unique-ish sound due to the horns. But, overall, I can't point to anything really intriguing or special about it.
Couldn't give this the time I'm sure it deserves because my phone doesn't allow for private sessions and I didn't want to further pollute my Spotify algorithm.
Not really for me.
Meh
Inte heeeelt uruselt men bra nära.
If there is Punk Muzak genre, this album would be the Sgt Peppers. It was fine and harmless - which is not how I want my punk music.
Pretty decent punk album if nothing particularly spectacular. I dig the trumpet flourishes. The book makes it sound like removing the "soothing woodwind and strings replacing the silence between tracks" was an improvement but to me that sounds like it would've been a much cooler album.
Quite samey
Didn’t get to spend as much time with this as I could have. I liked the clever lyrics/titles and hearing a horn section in a hard rock sound. Didn’t love the vocals personally, although they fit the title just fine.
It was alright, just definitely not my style.
Maybe I'm too old
Eh.
Hmmm. Not really feeling this.
Nothing stands out as particular good or bad. I may explore the style a bit more, but likely won’t return to this album or artist.
Started off as a pretty good punk rock album, but god damn the song heater hands sucks. 5/10
I was disappointed that I didn’t like this more. Flat, homogeneous? The energy level was high, but just nothing really catchy.
Nothing special, very generic.
Scream, Nicky, Scream Babylon Zoo are more deserving than this lot
Nah
Didn’t enjoy this at all on first listen but gave it a second listen and enjoyed it much more. Goes to show! Pushing a 3 but falls just short. I’m sure they sing about cheese and wine on one track 😂
Expectations for this album started off low and only slightly improved. Another band you’d find on an American Pie soundtrack. Didn’t really vibe off of this at all.
TRUE SCORE - 2.5 The band/album name and artwork really got me hype for some hard punk tracks, but when the album kicked off I definitely was getting poser vibes. About halfway through I softened that stance because they had fantastic horns throughout and you know I'm a horn ho! Aside from the brass and a great rhythm section, by the end of the album I still felt like this singer wasn't genuine. He sounded like someone trying too hard to sound tough. I understand that a huge part of musical performance is to escape into a persona or play up an aspect of your personality that might not be prevalent in your everyday life, but much like a great actor even though I know you're playing a character I have to believe you. While the music wasn't bad this really put me off the entire album and I just could never really connect with its message or sound.
Sound is cohesive, and has a certain Southern California Rock sound to it that is nice, but throughout I kept thinking it was just noise. I would love stuff similar to this, but it just didn't click.
oh yeah...THAT song. (on a rope) i didn't like it then, and i don't like it now.
nuh uh
Dumb
Huoh, välillä herätti lupauksia, mutta eipä lunastanut....
Not really my bag, man.
It was an album. I didn't much enjoy it, but it kept me awake so there's that! 2.5
Generic, unenjoyable, alt-rock
2
Basically the same song with the military drums at the beginning 14 times. On a rope is ok as a song but after 2 listens even that gets tiresome
# Album Name: Scream, Dracula, Scream # Artist: Rocket from the Crypt # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Rubbish # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? No
At least it’s not Robbie Williams
At least it was over quickly
it's merciful that they keep the songs short. a lot of banging without much arranging. I suppose it could be fun to see them perform
Seriously, this shit gets worse.
Not sure how this made the list.
Sounds like a record company executive asked for a pop punk band that sounds "more punk" if you're not really paying attention but is actually as generic and derivative if you pay attention. Individually none of the songs are bad but as a while this album is redundant and milquetoast
Meh
Third album I've bailed on since starting, dropped it during Ball Lighting. This did nothing for me, when it wasn't super annoying. Got a real bad feeling when I genuinely hated Middle, but thought I'd try to keep going. Nah. Not for me at all. Album 69 was Not Nice.
This one was painful
who listened to this in 1995? who listens to it now? I asked around and this album and band didnt register on anyones radar. Not now, not ever.
*No music - just loud banging noise and screaming vocals
Not my kind of music
Just a nothing album. Entirely forgettable.
4/12 Bland, boring, unmemorable. Sounds like generic music for a Tony Hawk game that was cut from release
Pants
Slide your hand along the entire fretboard one more GOD DAMN time, I fucking dare ya!
This was the first one of these I didn’t even finish.
Nö, damit verschwende ich meine Zeit nicht! Grässliches Geschreie!
This was the easiest review to write since this is so exceedingly bad. I normally give every album 3 listens through. This one I barely made it through 1 time and I can tell these songs will not grow on me at all. Not good for my ears. If you're gonna pick a California band from the 90s that was interesting and high energy - Cake is a MUCH better option. How this band made it on the this list and there is nothing by Cake is mind-boggling. I am glad I am doing this album per day thing BUT holy cow sometimes there are just huge stinkers like this. Liked songs on Spotify: 0/14 Rating: 1/5 (should be zero)
Mitä helvettiä
didn't listen
- no -
This should not have passed the first draft of the list
repetitive. mid. just not for me.
Haven't heard of them and just based on the name and artwork I knew it's gonna be ass. The lead singer sounds like Elvis Costello trying to be edgy and the overall vibe is just confusing. Wikipedia says this is hardcore punk but it's not? It's some of the lamest punk I've ever heard, it's barely punk. I wish I could rate this 1.5/5 because it sucks but also isn't the worst thing I've ever heard. Well, into the 1/5 you go then 1/5
This album was a disappointment. I was excited by the new name, and seeing that it was a punk band from the mid 90ties, I was hoping for something new to hook into. In the end, the music was too boring and not hooky enough to appeal to my pop-punk tastes, and not hard edge enough to appeal to my punk tastes. I guess there is a reason my punk friend never flagged this band.
There are tiny ass hints of things I like in here but…
Never heard of this band or album. Another first time listen outside of my normal style of music. Don’t hear anything special about this through the first songs? It’s clearly punk but not that early fun late 70s punk. It sounds more 90s/2000s obviously, but still not fully the catchy style of pop punk that would emerge. It seems to alternate between something I’m kinda enjoying and something that I don’t like. I particularly don’t like his voice. There are some songs that rock a little more and get to a more fun point. And some of the horns are fun. (Is this Ska? I never really knew what ska was). But overall there’s a very generic sound to this that doesn’t stand out. I would probably never choose to listen to anything on this album ever again and will forget it in a day or two. I’m sure there are plenty of people who like this music, just doesn’t do it for me at all. Especially this guy’s voice. Something I don’t like. Wavering between a 1 or 2, but it also overstays its welcome so probably going down. One thing is I fully reject the notion that this is some sort of must listen album. Even others I didn’t enjoy had a special ness to them that this doesn’t have. 1/5
dnf don’t like the voice, fun heavy guitar instrumental but rough over done man voice
I flipped through these songs like I was scrolling through 500 useless channels of late night tv, finding nothing but garbage click after click, with only the occasional pause to see if what they were selling on the infomercial was worth buying. Spoiler alert, it was not.
Cool band name. Cool album title. Cool album cover. Awful music.
Listened once and glad when it was over. Was between 5 and 15 songs I think.
Pointless.
Guy in hospice care finally listening to this album so he can cross it off the list: I could have died without this honestly
helpless
👎
I like Middle and Used. Most of this is like if Reel Big Fish took itself too seriously, if Social Distortion was no fun, or if Jeff Rosenstock had no sense of rhythm or melody. As much a pop anthem collection as anything it was meant to course correct. Often reminded me of a less talented version of Adam Schlesinger. Grading on a curve because we are talking about albums proposed as must-listens in the top 1001 sense, but I did find this actively annoying often.
not my favorite!
Nervig
So much and yet so little. A prime example of why balls to the wall won’t work without delicacy and nuance.
Just a little unlistenable for me :)
No
C'est non
I was exhausted after just a couple songs of this album. Then it kept going. Why is this a must listen? Why would anyone else listen to an entire album of this?
terrible
Just horrible
First 30 second reaction: no. Bland watered down alternapunk. Ball Lightning is the first thing to Carmichael my ear. Fat Lip: some nice guitar riffs Suit city: ok Probably need another listen to beginning. Album getting a bit better. Misbeaten: I like the beatlesque vocals. Overall, I do t think I would ever listen to a single song on this album again.
heh heh that sucked
I'm kind of surprised how boring I found this as a punk enjoyer. Very plodding. The year before this came out we got Smash, Stranger than Fiction, Dookie and Punk in Drublic from Californian punks. There was absolute gold coming from the era at the time, how did something this dull get made?
well this was very 1001 albums i.e. quite bad and i can not see how this is a "must listen". probably the 984 album they added after running out of the essentials.
Didn’t listen
Just not a fan of the garage band, grunge sound.
This was really terrible.
If this was an important album at the time of release I feel it can only have been as a contrast to whatever else was around, because in itself it’s highly derivative. It’s generally imbued with grungy sounds of the period, in the manner of Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana etc. But a number of the tracks are basically “that one that’s like the Ramones”, then “that one that’s like The Clash”. Some of the grabs are very direct (which actually I don’t mind if they’re being respectfully quoted) but there are so many of them! To the above, you can also add The Cramps and especially The Sonics - basic garageband stuff. Revivalist can be fun. Every generation hears historic music afresh and puts their own spin on it. I can see this album probably would have been exciting if you were 18 in 1990. But when its core content is something as basic as garage / punk rock, it feels hard to latch on to a revival (even one dressed up in grunge clothing) in retrospect.
I'd never heard of this band before, nor heard any of these tracks without knowing who played them. They are said to be a rock band, I'd put this more in the punk rock genre - not a favourite of mine. I found nothing to really interest me on this album. I found the music a relatively simple combination of a limited number of overdriven guitar chords which were so loud as to mostly drown out the drums a lot if the time. Perhaps it's best summed up as a wall of non-melodic sound. There was little to redeem things with the vocals. Loud and raspy, pretty much overdriven too, lyrics shouted in a way that often made them indecipherable. Even when it was possible to hear the lyrics they seemed to be composed of simple repeated phrases that didn't seem to have any complex meaning. I get it that this is often the punk style. I know punk fans like the style, but it's not for me.
I don't love this one.
This fucking sucks, and the cover is gross too. Seriously wtf?
mid 1 haah nah bro, it aint that rad. Not at all
Trumpet punk
Noise
Too much screaming and hard rock
bad i hate it. i cannot stand the singer's voice. I don't like this genre of music. get out
No thanks
Complete garbage
Punk. Never understood it. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I am aware my rating is subjective.
highlight: used lots of energy but not my thing.
Nope, not for me. Didn't love the sound, really didn't like the lyrics or track titles (i.e. Come see, come saw)
This album along with Invaders of the Heart should be on the list of 1001 albums never to listen too. Wish there was an option to not rate this album. Not worth of a star
Kind of like a grungy punk with horns? Not my jive today, at 1 star
If no stars was an option I'd choose 0 stars for this garbage!
Nope
Not my thing. Grating and made me anxious.
This was pretty rough. Did not enjoy.
This is #day385 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... if there's a kind of music that I find particularly irritating, that's horny ska-punk shit. I'm not sure if you must hear this before you die. Most likely not. Terrible. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day386.
Whack 1/10
Didn’t enjoy the pop punk / emo style. Feel this group will have inspired other bands - but I didn’t enjoy listening.
This album is like a a one man band skit, doing anything for attention and failing miserably at all of it. I see the appeal for sleazy 1990's punk forward alt rock but it kinda falls flat here. Rushed songs, absent structure, shite vocals. Other acts did it better at the time. This comes off a B tier Offspring, F tier Foo Fighters, with a dash of ska that makes them kinds bad at 3 genres?! Don't listen to this before you die. Go find 90's punk staples like the Desendents, Replacements, hell even Listen to Mighty Mighty bosstones and Operation Ivy for ska. And listen to The Colour and Shape by Foo Fighters for pure 90s rock nostalgia.
There was nothing about this that I liked.
fast pace, low budget sounding. first 2 seconds sound identical, its fun enough but not particularly interesting. the recording felt flat with no bass. what is it with punk and not having any fucking bass
To me it sounds like if the Beach Boys made a punk rock album but without the harmonies (derogatory)
I need a cookie for making it through that entire album. Horrible. Terrible. No good. Awful. Bad.
Probably too harsh if a rating, but what is this dogshit? This is like a high school garage band inexplicably got massive.
Ska punk straight out of a Tony Hawk game. Expensively produced with lots of overdubs and a very polished 90s alt rock radio friendly sound that leans a bit Springsteen anthemic at times, but mostly stays in the nightmare venn diagram overlap of green day and the bosstones. Decent guitars parts, horns complementing the bass parts and adding harmonies, very whiney vocals, big drums. The songs are over-written with lots of changing parts and stop start style. It's really pretty annoying.
My lukewarm response to this one may have more to do with my appreciation of 1995 releases by Offspring, Rancid, and Elastica. RFTC are willing and able, but didn't really appeal to me.
Unfassbar nerviger Schreischrott.
I know why Dracula is screaming. I didn't feel like there was a lot of talent or variety here, and I couldn't finish the entire album.
Boring album. Terrible lyrics and vocal. Musically not good either!
It's like someone was playing musical telephone, and someone explained REM and was told to write their music with a red crayon on the wall of a moving elevator while bouncing on a trampoline.
40k monthly listeners on Spotify for a reason
Why the hell is this on the list? Punk Ska? Nah man i'm cool. This might be it for somebody else. but DEFINITELY not me
ass cheeks bro I can’t get behind this music, im sorry
Meh
Completely grating. Nothing interesting. How is this on the list? Will never, ever, listen to this again.
Not really for me. Shouty but somehow didn't really feel the energy that typically accompanies this type of music. Probably the first album on this list that was truly a slog to get through. Largely forgettable post punk with a couple of decent tracks ("Come See, Come Saw," for example)
They thought they could compose 3 songs and then sell a 14 song record with only those 3? Clever
HUUUUUDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HUUTAAAAAKAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAALRIIIIIIIIIGHT AAAAAAAALRIGTHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT AAALLLLLLLLLRRRRRRRRIIIIIIGGHTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!! fat lip
one banger
Not my type of music
Hard rock. Pass
I do really enjoy Rock and metal but this just wasn’t doing it for me.
This was rubbish. It’s gonna be harsh giving it 1 star but it’s not as interesting even as latest 2 stars
This album sounded like a very average garage band. Every track almost identical. I will never play this album again, absolute shite.
Not good.
Hanging on a rope, on a rope, on a rope around my neck so i dont have to listen to anymore of this album.
More rubbish.
I have friends that would probably listen to this, but I gravitated towards much more accomplished artists in this era.
Not for me
STANDOUTS: n/a; DNF OVERALL: 1/5; truly awful—gives off school shooter energy
Too late for punk. No patience for a punk from the 1990s
Certainly had me screaming... but mainly screaming to stop the noise!
Not for me. This album made me want to listen to other albums by bands I enjoy. Curiously, a couple of those bands are Rockabilly. Maybe RFTC should have gone that route. But, they would need to fire this post nasal drip lead singer for one with a real voice who can come up with pleasing melodies.
Generic, forgettable, might as well be more of that Brit pop the authors love so much.
Listening to this album I heard Smashing Pumpkins, A bit of Alice in Chains, and some 80s punk. Nothing special about this album or band to me.
As someone who listened to and enjoyed a lot of punk/ska in the mid to late 90s this was pretty bad. Brought back memories of getting badly sunburned at Warped Tour.
glatað
90s American punk. Better when it's heavier, terrible when it approaches Green Day. Annoying vocals.
Huh???
Awful
Ik heb niks positiefs te melden. Wat een verschrikkelijk album. 1/10
Insert prompt: 'Create a compilation of punk songs reminiscent of the style found in Tony Hawk games, yet belong to the rare category of soundtracks that easily slip from memory.'
Frat rock. Middle American mediocrity. Hate it. Can’t get through a whole song.
