80s. Forgettable.

Bjork was so sensational, I think intriguingly different in her vocal style. I never knew the Sugarcubes, but from what I gather this was an early colab just before her wave crested in the US and worldwide. I can understand how groundbreaking she was for Iceland, for women, and for creativity. That said, although I've listened to her many times, I have never been able to fully embrace her music. This album is right there. The sharp fractured singing is hard for me to process and enjoy.

I don’t know what I just listened to. Avant Garde is not for me.

Bjork the prequel

Sorry, couldn't get into this sound.

This was alright. Interesting that it was what led to Bjork being Bjork.

Björk sings about her mum's tits. Take what you want out of that.

Is this just a sneaky way where yet another Bjork on the list? Begins strong but runs out of steam for me. That shouldn’t happen on a short album

Einar ruins this.

It's like Björk but the only good part is Björk's singing

Kind of a strange album. Some of Bjork's vocal work is impressive, but ultimately a little too much for me. Some of the songs are musically interesting. Overall just okay. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

Meh 2/5 not my cup of tea. May not be my cup of tea today but I will still blame the generator

Couple of decent songs on here, but overall doesn’t really do it for me

Fizzing with ideas, Bjork's singular harmonic sense and singular sense of timing adding soaring tunes - always with a sense of unease. Lots and lots going on, but much of is is agitated. not a listen that I enjoyed.

An interesting pre-solo Bjork curio with maybe 3 decent songs?

islanti valtaistuimella seisoo.. länsimaiden valokeilassa nautiskelee... remote island not like boring finlan mainland... ei viikinkifantasiaa.. hollywoodfantasiaa suomessa tarpeeksi... sugarcubes kuulostaa erikoisen epäerikoiselta... yrittää tehdä jotain.... jotain mitä kaikki muut tekee... ja annettu valokeilaa koska politiikka, islantiulkopolitiikka.... islanti valtaistuimella... katsoo alas halveksien... meillä, on, BJÖRKKI!!! Ailishin pilli.. Hehehe... Billy.. vai... Hehheh.... Billy ailiiishi... hehehe. myndir þú læra að gera eitthvað annað en sterka menn og vitleysu þarna á Íslandi. holy fucking shit guyz this is crazy... traitor

After listening to this, I can’t honestly say life had improved significantly…

Don't like this at all. Bjork's voice grates on my nerves and, in this genre, The Sundays are way, way better.

I knew this one. Sounds better than I remembered.

bjork's singing is good as always and teh tunes themselves were pretty eh

not anything to go back to

Kinda whacky background singing and overly singing female lead but good at times

Thoroughly unenjoyable

I’m familiar with one of their songs but I’ve never listened to an album in entirety and it was just alright. I think sometimes the music was funky in a good way and I do see the attraction to her voice but to me I just didn’t agree with the sound of it. I recognize that’s completely a preference for me and that i’d why I give some respect because it’s definitely different from a lot.

Not a huge fan but it sounded pretty interesting, maybe if I was in a different mood I would return to this. High 2.

2.2 The more I listen to Bjork, the more I do not like

Was unfamiliar with today's band so I looked at their bio. Icelandic alt rock. I thought, ok, sounds interesting. Lead singer... Bjork...... Fuck. So this was apparently her band prior to getting huge and going out on her own. This is like Icelandic B-52s but shittier. Favourite songs: Deus Least favourite songs: Birthday, Delicious Demon, Mama, Take Some Petrol Darling.... And others.... Most of this record is garbage. I really don't like much post punk/Avant pop. It's just too quirky and weird for me. 2/5

Not my jam. Still not the worst thing I’ve ever listened to but won’t be coming back to this one.

Just like Bjork's solo work, I struggled to get into it. A few good songs, but overall meh.

B52s without the upbeat energy or the hits.

Apart from the hit single, this left me pretty disappointed. 2/5

What's this Bjork-sounding nonsense? Oh, it's early Bjork.

Not the kind of music I like

Definetly not my type of music.

What the fuck was the point of all that?

Obviously, Bjork was destined for bigger things.

Not vibing with it at all. But I read the reviews and maybe I have to give it another chance. Tried it and not for me.

Literally about to add a song to a playlist and then some dude starts talking about sideburns. No thank you.

B52 vibes

Kind of poppy, kind of light punk

Definitely not my cup of tea

Well it doesn't sound like other bjork stuff but then again none of bjorks stuff sounds like other bjork stuff. Sounded very 80s, decent enough but I feel like we've had a bit too much of this recently. Struggle to think of any songs that stood out for the better. Can see why it's on the list but won't be back. 2.5 but closer to 2.

It's a blend of some of my most hated genres, New Wave and Post Punk 🤮 Highlights: Motorcrash Birthday Coldsweat

I'm an idiot, I was thinking how strange this is that the singer sounds like Bjork, and they both are Icelandic, must have inspired her. I assumed she was much younger than she is....Thought she would've been a child in 1988… can't believe she's 58! Anyway, not sure about this. Feel like she found the type of music her voice and style works with in her solo career. Didn't hate it, but didn't do much for me. I like her voice though, but would prefer her solo stuff. 2.5

Took my two songs before it dawned on me that that was indeed Bjorks voice that I was hearing. Overall, I have been severely underwhelmed by her albums that have been on this list and this one didn’t change my opinion, which is meh.

Weer fucking Björk

nein danke 2x

Bjork is very talented, there is no question. But her voice really starts to grate on me after a few songs.

Not my cup of tea

Not really my thing. The music was OK but didn't like the female vocalist. Overall did not particularly wnjoy

Is life too good? It must be to allow these types of albums to be on this list. No disrespect to the Icelandic group that no doubt inspired countless Eurovision contestants. Much like I am not a huge fan of Bjork, I’m not of this band either. A little too frenzied and the lyrics and just wild. Whole song about a motorcrash, and just saying motorcrash over and over.

Eh. Maybe we're in another weak streak. This album has a lot of life, but it feels very disjointed. A lot of stuff just crammed together. Quite a few vocalists, and sometimes that variety is cool, but sometimes it's a lady that sounds like Bjork, and I'm not a Bjork fan. I'll keep two from here, but considering how many tracks are here, that's not saying much at all. Favorite tracks: Motorcrash, Blue Eyed Pop. Album art: At least we get some bright colors out of this? Nice green background, and abstract drawings of I think two naked people - don't want to think or look at it too hard. Pretty solid cover in my opinion, but can't say the same about the album experience. 2.5/5

I feel that products containing Bjork need a Bjork warning sticker.

Was just alright, bjorks vocals were great but not too keen on the other singer. Interesting music but not particularaly my cup of tea

I made it through the entire album....at times it was hard. Not my normal listen, but at least it was not a "1". Favorite was Coldsweat original.

Key tracks: Birthday Motorcrash Delicious Demon

There's a reason why Icelandic pop did not become mainstream. This album is the proof.

Not really a fan of Bjork, and this is no exception. It's not completely unlistenable, but it's just kind of annoying nonsense.

I have come across this album a few times and never really understood the appeal. I learned that it is early Björk this time around. Not my cuppa

I liked the first 1/3 and then it got tough for me. Actually skipped the last 2 or 3 songs...

This one went way over (?) my head. Just couldn't have a good time with this one despite the energy of the album. This feels like something you need to be on the same wavelength of in order to enjoy. It's leaning into what it is, and it feels like the artists are being their honest, creative selves. But I won't be coming back any time soon. Do your thing, Bjork. Highlight: Birthday Lowlight: Sick for Toys

Pretty alright I guess. Nice to see Bjork before her solo work.

kind of like an OC Supertones sort of vibe with vocals that sound like Bjork. It's not bad, and to be fair, it's not just supertones. it's a lot of different sounds of rock from arena to ska. the big stand out is the melodies of the vocals - weird intonations from the female vocalist and almost like post punk noisecore sounds from the male

Pretty unremarkable if it weren't for some of the earliest recordings of Bjork. Birthday, Deus, and Cowboy are among the better tracks.

Is this album on this list because it was Björk group before she went solo? Yes. Is it also Björk best album? Yes but that is not saying much. Do you need to hear it? No. It was tolerable and it is punk music. It being just over 30 minutes helps.

so very british

So-so 2/5

Medium

There’s times I think I get the hype around Bjork, like she has a good voice, but then other times I just accept I don’t get it. Either way she’s not for me and I like her even less with this band than her solo stuff

I have never been able to get The Sugarcubes, which is disappointing given my enjoyment of Björk. This is right on the threshold between 2 and 3 for me, so I had a bit of trouble trying to rate this.

Hate the accents, pretty boring album

Not my cup of tea. Björk is weirdly in her place in that new wave/pop/humor album. Better than her later stuff. 2 stars.

Very interesting album with okay production and weird vocals, but still good. The guy and girl vocal combo is cool. Best song: Birthday Worst song: Sick for Toys and Take Some Petrol Darling

I tried and failed several times to get into the Sugarcubes during their heyday. The best tracks on this album really point towards Bjork's subsequent solo career. It's creative and varied, but also grating and forgettable at too many points for me.

#6. To be honest, I had kinda assumed I would go my lifetime without hearing what Björk actually sounded like. And I'm not entirely sure that I'm better off for knowing. I listened to this in the car, and the woman at the drive thru window had an "oh, my" look on her face when Björk started doing her Yoko Ono shrieks on Birthday, and for the most part I agree even though I think that's the best song on the album. I know Europeans have weird taste in music, but even still I'm not sure who this is for. 2/5: meh

Ok garage rock, a bit of punk, some cranberries vibes. 2,50, but to be fair with the rest of my starts this will be a 2.

Everything that there was to say about Bjork and her projects has been said. Her style is very unique and addition of soft rock band doesn't change anything. 2023 - I survived another Bjork's album.

Weird not sure it's good, add it to the listen again someday pile

“Mom, can you buy me a B52 record?” “But we have B52 at home” B52 at home:

I simply do not get Bjork

Such an arc Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes took me on: I started it with headache and pessimism, felt hope flower after a minute of promising post-punk gestures, followed by about 30 minutes of distraction and more headache to go with the realisation that this is an aimless, pointless record. More importantly, it is not fun.

2/5. Not too bad but not interesting enough to hold my attention. A little too artsy and not enough punk for me. The singer is the best part and her vocals are not utilized enough, save a few songs. If it went a little bit harder, this would be really good.

Would have scored 3* if the male vocals werent annoying me.

2 Pretty boring, not that bad though

It’s aight

I feel I should know this but if I did all memory of it has gone. And listening to it, I can see why. No doubt there are people for whom this album was life changing. And good luck and all gods blessings on them. My life trudges on, unchanged and unmoved by this.

Kind of Annoying to listen too honestly. I had no idea Bjork was in this. I just don't care for the instrumentation or vocals honestly it just felt like noise to me. There's some stuff here that's different I guess, I think Birthday might be the best track but idk it all just sounded like noise to me. *coughs*

Has a voice that reminds me of Alanis at some times. Punk and angsty. Not my vibe. 2.5

Tried to like it when the album came out, still have a hard time listening to it.

It's very hard to take Dimery's list seriously when it comes to Björk. *Debut* is listed, along with *Medúlla* and *Vulnicura*, but as nice as those two latter experimental records from the Icelandic diva's later career are, they can't beat the musical and cultural impact of the marvels found in *Post*, *Homogenic* and *Vespertine*, inexplicably absent from the 1001 albums book. Likewise, listing this LP from the band that helped the Icelandic singer rise to international fame is a clear misstep, especially under the light of those inexplicable omissions. This nordic version of B52s and Talking Heads shenanigans could perform some fun stuff once in a while. But in terms of memorable tunes, only "Birthday" stands out, mostly because Björk's elated vocals are given enough room to breathe there, contrary to a lot of the other tracks in this weird album--she was not the only singer in the band, unfortunately, and even when she was the only one to sing, the heavy-handed rock instrumentation took away a lot of her powers anyway. So I'll be damned if *Life's Too Good* was universally considered as "essential". It's still an interesting listen for hardcore fans of Björk's voice. But it can't go any further than that. 2/5 for the purposes of this list, which translates to a 7/10 grade for more general purposes (5 + 2). Next, please. Number of albums left to review: 511 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 232 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 113 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 143 (including this one)

Bjork's amazing vocal range is on full display here. I prefer the songs where she's the lead vocalist as the male singer can't really keep up with her. Birthday is the best song here and it hints at a lot of very creative and original music to come. Some have compared their sound to the B52s and i can't disagree.

Try as I might with Bjork, I just don’t get it.

When I heard that Björk was the singer, I should have known what to expect. This music - sadly, as I respect Björk - is really, REALLY not my cup of tea. I had trouble getting through this. 2/5

Kind of like the B-52’s, but only the lyrics and vocals are cringe.

This was alright as far as 80s alternative goes. This felt dated and its sound was mostly a wide array of instrumentals and clamoring behind bjorks singing. Obviously the singing is decent but it seemed too clustered while listening. Not worth revisiting. 4.5/10

Started out as generic pop rock, or what I assume is pop rock, but got extremely boring halfway through the album. Not the worst thing I have heard but this is teetering on the edge of mediocrity threatening to fall over into the "bad" territory for a large portion of the album. The guy speaking in the background of "Sick of Toys" sounds like German Slowthai. This is a low 3/5 maybe a high 2/5

I score this a 2.0/5 I did not enjoy this one at all. I tried to like it but I just couldn't get myself to enjoy any of it.

Not Björk's best work, but good practice and I am glad she went solo later. This album just felt messy, she's just screaming with some shitty music in the background. Birthday was a good song, everything else was pretty bad.

Weird but not quite wonderful

Did not like lol

These writers are thirsty for Björk. Not for me.

Traitor - harmonica sounds really good and vocals are really good as well, talking gets annoying GOOD Motorcrash - lyrics are pretty bad but other than that it’s pretty good tbh OK Birthday - she sounds like she’s dying on the Ohhh and the vocals just are not hitting, instrumental is ok BAD Delicious Demon - vocals are really good and the instrumental is decent GOOD Mama - it’s just a weird song, and so has the rest of the album, but it’s not like terrible, just weird fr OK Cold Sweat - prolly the best song on the album so far bc the instrumental hits pretty well and the vocals are good GREAT Blue Eyes Pop - Actually really good vocals again and pretty good def another banger GREAT Deus - A decent vocal performance and the instrumental sounds abt the same, atp I’m not super impressed OK Sick For Toys - A song I think was actually pretty good in comparison wit everything else but it just isn’t super impressive in general GOOD Fucking In Rhythm and Sorrow - It’s a good clusterfuck and I honestly don’t hate it, until she starts saying life is sweet and sour OK Take Some Petrol Darling - the perfect ending to the interesting album, idek what to say, it’s and outro INTERLUDE

It wasn’t as bad as I expected. Sort of a precursor to The Cranberries, 4 Non Blonds, Local H, etc.

Bjork is amazing and without a doubt the clear standout on this album. What doesn't age well is the background spoken word vocals that accompany Bjork's amazing voice.... Yes, it really does make this sound like a B-52's album from Iceland. The instrumentals also have the iconic new wave sound. If that's your jam, this is a perfect album for you. I'm not a big fan of that sound, it's really all about Bjork's unique voice for me. I'm feeling a 2.5 here.

Not my cup of tea

Never knew Bjork was in a band! It was okay.

The only song I really liked was ‘Birthday’. The rest was forgettable.

Different, but in a more annoying than interesting way.

Bad Icelandic music

Potential is there but this is not that album

I know this is post Punk and everything, but this album feels like the producer (the head honcho at One Little Indian?) misread the brief, simply polishing the demos rather than building on them. Ho hum. Still, we do have this fortuitous discovery to thank for...well, Vespertine, for example. And Hyperballad.

Some mildly catchy rhythms, but the vocals were annoying and the tunes were forgettable.

Mediocre

The background vocals are pretty funny, not awful and kinda catchy

Better then i was expecting. Much more a straight forward indie rock record then what Bjork is known for. Still her voice started to grate on me by the end.

Better than Bjork on her own. Some of this reminds me of the B52’s but I don’t like the male vocals very much.

Sorry, not my cup of tea

Not to be ungenerous, but there isn't much here for me to hang my attention on. It isn't even bad to listen to. It's fine, it sounds like the 80s and 90s, it's fine.

I'd rather just listen to a Bjork album. This is fine I guess but I don't feel compelled to ever listen to it on my own.

Nah. 5/10

Icelandic indie landfill

I really liked how it started out; I thought the energy was near perfect. The vocals could've used work, but I didn't mind it in the grand scheme of things. However, it dropped off horribly near the middle and continued to be bad until the end. The voice is grating, the lyrics make no sense at all, and the music takes a nosedive in quality. Favorite track: Motorcrash

A couple of tines but abhorrent got better after this.

interesting sound. 2/5

Olihan tylsä ja paikoitellen ärsyttävä levy. Ei silti lähelläkään paskuuden kuninkuusluokkaa.

stealth Bjork. Bit weird.

Fairly forgettable for me, easy listening

Off key, screechy, insubstantial, vocals. Annoying talking over. Music dominating sound. Meh

Kinda interesting I think?

Sounds very of-its-time, but there's some interesting songs on here. Not as legendary as I'd expected, but still a diverting listen, especially given what Bjork would go on to do.

Kinda doubt we'd remember this one had Bjork not become Bjork

Not a big Bjork fan Not keen on the guitars Jangly

Not arsed

I was going to say that the singer sounds an awful lot like Björk, then I looked them up and found out that the lead singer was, in fact, Björk! This is hit or miss for me. Like Björk's solo music, I like some of the songs and can do without the others. 2.5 stars

Except for "Birthday" I did not like this album.

interesting, doesn't do anything for me though

Not great. Not really good either.

not bad but not great

Hard no on this one.

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of today's pick. More than one bjork song is a bit too much for me (though she has some good ones for sure)

Bjork? Ah si, mirá vos... era Bjork. TIL 2/5

Really didnt like this - not a Bjork fan. I dont know how this would be a top 1001 album. Wont listen too again 2 stars

Didn't enjoy it much at all. The last song kinda went hard though. F***ing in rhythm and sorrow is the name of the song that went hard

It wasn't horrible, but the songs that weren't "bad" were certainly more "strange" than "good" to me. I can see some parts of the album being considered pretty interesting and I didn't mind it for one listen, but I'm certainly not interested in hearing more. Too chaotic, too unfocused, too unpolished.

Gotta say, not a huge fan. I can get by some of the weird experimental sounds and vocals from some bands, but I had no clue what was happening.

Just sounds dated and silly

Bjork's voice is ethereal. Much better than Sigur Ros, but I might only listen to this album once a year.

Im sticking with my 2/5 rating, it was noise rock, and while there were some ok songs, overall, it was a mess.

boring

B52s but More annoying

not really a fan, punky i guess not unpleasant just not my thhing

Not great

A lot of shouting

Really don't care for Björk.

I am aware of the Sugarcubes and know they are the band where Bjork came from before she started her solo career. I'm pretty sure my wife actually owned this CD back when it first came out - but don't really remember it as it never became part of my regular rotation. I have 1 song by The Sugarcubes liked on a different album - "Hit". I have 15 songs liked by Bjork from her solo albums. I didn't remember that they also had a guy singing in some of these songs, in addition to Bjork. That kinda reminds me of the B-52s - but in an annoying way. The song "Birthday" is pretty disturbing when you read the lyrics. Seems like its about a 5 year old girl being molested/raped by an older man - and she thinks they are friends. Pretty creepy. In "Deus" she fantasizes about god having sex with her - even though she doesn't believe in god. She mentions him putting her in a bathtub again (like in "Birthday"). In "Sick for Toys", a woman uses men/boys as her toys. And then she meets a "small boy" too. Again - pretty creepy. The lyrics to a lot of these songs seem strange - like it's a strained translation from Icelandic to English. Nothing grabbed me on this album as something I would want to listen to again. Sorry Bjork and crew - this didn't do it for me. Liked songs on Spotify: 0/11 Rating: 1/5 (should be zero)

What the fuck is happening?? This is objectively bad

Bjork’s voice is so unique and attention-grabbing that it’s the sort of thing you have to purposefully craft your entire album to accommodate. Just slotting her into otherwise conventional music is disastrous, really doing her dirty. All of this is to say that I love her solo work but hated this album.

I'm not sure that Bjork deserves to be as well presented on this list as she is, I'm at 280 albums and she is 1.7% of them - there is a lot of far better music than she's involved in. That said - this is even lower on the totem pole than her solo stuff because *it was nothing new* when compared to other 'college rock' acts of the time. There were so many instances where they sounded like a disjointed (translation issue?) R.E.M. or The B-52s. They were just fine - nothing really worthwhile unless you're already a fan of Bjork, though.

Screaming, shrieking, chainsaws on aluminum roofing, thats this

Mycket stön och skrik

Quirky post-punk and art pop built on jagged guitars, bouncy basslines, off-kilter rhythms, and wildly contrasting vocals feels restless and unpredictable. Listening feels like stepping into a surreal cartoon where moods shift abruptly between playful chaos and eerie tension. Where is the exit again?

That wasn't enjoyable at all.

One song. I'm not sure how she's had such a fruitful career.

It's too quirky for its own good. Also it sounds like Bjork. I looked it up, it is Bjork.

Not for me. Björks voice is phenomenal but that's all that's good here which is shame.

If you drop it in hot coffee will they melt and go away? Please? 1

Did I enjoy this? No. Will I try to listen again to revise my opinion? Also no.

This list has too much Bjork. I cringed at the first two tracks and had to quit listening.

Malo como ninguno :)

I don't like the vocal and music too noisy for me.

This was awful. I had to force myself to get thru it. Just nothing I liked.

Very unenjoyable album, lots of jibberish and trying to seem weird for the sake of seeming weird.

Was this included on this list as a joke? What is this garbage? Oh, it's because Björk is in it. To be honest, I could have done without knowing her origin story.

Not for me.

Poop in my ears.

Borinnnggg

my poor ears

NO MORE BJORK PLEASE

slightly better than solo bjork but, it’s still bjork

Couldn’t really warm to this

Didn't like dude's vocals

Not for me. 1/5

I don’t even know what to say about this. I just didn’t enjoy the experience listening to this.

has been discussed ad naseum on this site, Bjork requires decent backing to become tolerable/entertaining. This band have no redeeming features, tinny production and difficult to define song structures did not help. At best they sound like a really shit Teardrop Explodes. Mercifully it was a short album.

This is the group that Bjork was in, that's all I knew before listening. Of itself that is not a good start as I can't stand her. Putting aside the music, she is so far up her own arse she forms a human moebius-strip! Her music always annoyed the fuck out of me too, but maybe this album will be different as it's not just her.... Nope, fucking awful, made it to track 3, had to turn it off. Utter horse-shit.

WTF! Awful.

ugh so twee, and that fucking trumpet

hate it

'Life's Too Crap' w/ Bjork's shit sandwich of a voice. 0/5

Not for me.

Something about this just made me hate it. I think it was on Motorcrash when my jaw literally dropped because I was baffled at what the hell I was listening to. This album is the most European album I’ve ever heard. It’s more European than albums on this list that are sung in French. It’s so bad. I hate it. I don’t know why.

Strange band from the 90’s. Try to copy the B-52’s, not very successful.

Nicht meins, zu disharmonisch

Terrible. Awful. No good.

Terrible in all senses. Instruments sound awful, vocals are meandering and out of tune. Just a waste of time.

life was not good when I was listening to this. It was too weird. there is a song on here called motorcrash and it made me think if I were in a car crash right now I wouldn't have to listen to this crap

Somewhat interesting musically. Vocals in no way for me

Okay, album. Didn't enjoy it much.

Konnte ich nicht anhören. Björk macht mich fertig

I have never heard of this band before today. Sounds like a mash-up of the B52s with Rammstein in the worst way possible. First album I wanted to turn off.

I didn't enjoy it. I listened to the first several songs then checked out

Forgettable

Screeching woman is not my genre

screaming. noise... Take Some Petrol is more than a track. It's advice.

Only got two songs in , this one is not for me . Is it Björk because it sounds like Björk

Lots of yelling 80s women. Pretty whacky avant-gard stuff.

Don't really like new Bjork, and apparently I also don't like old Bjork ⭐️

First listen Saved 2/11: Traitor Birthday

Not my thing. Dues and Toy I didn't get at all

Son of a... Listen, you can't just ambush a body with a Björk album like that! It's inhumane! You gotta give people time to prepare their minds and hearts for the vocal war crimes of Iceland's native drunk-demon-baby fairy princess! I hated that so much. Every damn second of it. I wish every single Björk album could be thrown into an Icelandic volcano and bleached off of every server on earth. Someone needs to be held responsible and make amends for this offense against music.

Wer Geschrei mag! Ich nicht! Gebt mir MUSIK!

I’m not a fan of Bjork

Oof. Early Bjork. Did not enjoy this. I can understand having Bjork on this list, but not an early pre-Bjork album.

Apparently this album was never supposed to be taken seriously and was a surprise hit. Perhaps it was a mistake to ever take this seriously? I really hated listening to it.

Not for me thanks.

Björk has always felt like weird music for people who don't really like weird music. Take that away and this sounds like typical Eighties indie rock. Birthday is fun, and so this gets a star for that, but the rest I will be happy if I never hear again.

Bjork 😩 and then they added the annoying bastard in the background.

As stated in other reviews, not my cup of tea. Bjork sounds. No thanks.

Wow. **

Ok. Buckle Up... I'm sorry ahead of time for this super hot take. It's spicy and I hope it's taken tongue-in-cheek as it's meant. I hate this album with the flames of a thousand suns. There's nearly nothing about the album that I like. First, I don't like the songs. As compositions they lack any real potency of meaning or intent for me. I don't identify with them topically or emotionally, and I'm not even entirely convinced that there's a structure or meaning behind the them at all. Second, the recording is absolutely the worst. I've heard recordings of raccoons fighting in a dumpster that were easier to listen to. There's clipping throughout the tracks, it doesn't sound like it was mastered at all, the mix cuts the music when the voice track clips, the recording process was completely ignored. It literally sounds like they set up the instruments, plugged a single mic in the middle of the room, pushed the faders all the way up, and then hired a pack of screaming goats to have a karate tournament next to the drum set while the actual band fucked off and drank cheap wine out back by the railroad tracks. On a serious note, I'm not one to shy away from difficult music. I like art that challenges assumptions and disregards norms and breaks rules... That means it can deeply uncomfortable to listen to at times, and I appreciate that. But I genuinely don't understand this record's intent. Why were these choices made? What's the artistic expression here and why is music the choice of medium for it? What does this have to teach me? What conversation am I meant to have with this? What thoughts or emotion is it supposed to translate? I feel like someone is speaking a language I don't understand and then asking my opinion on the author's ideas.

I really don't know what i'm listening to... what the hell is happening. Musically, this is shit. How in the world is this album influential? I could easily die without hearing this. These songs are all over the place, musical anarchy. I will admit, there were a handful of bars that I was grooving to thanks to some neat percussion work. I'm gonna try to use Chris' cafe scale on this one: I walked out halfway through my scone and took back my tip from the tip jar on my way out.

Eeek, no. Like the cranberries but screachier.

Not my thing at all. Endured to track 5 then had to call it a day

09/10/2022 There’s probably nothing inherently wrong w this album, I just truly can’t stand the 1980s sound. Bjork’s vocals were fine, I can see how she found individual success after this, but overall this album just isn’t for someone like me. — Went to the maggiano’s yesterday :P very chill day. Hung out at boysville, ate the best pho of my life, and got some yummy cheesecake

Lotta love for Bjork on this list.. There's a few songs that are almost tolerable on this album but it's still hard to get through.

This album has one song (Motorcross) that I sort of liked. But the entire rest of the album is fairly standard alt rock that is turned to complete shit by Bjork’s wailing. Absolutely unlistenable.

I like the female vocals on some of the songs like "F***ing in Rhythm & Sorrow", but I'm not a fan with the album as a whole.

Absolute load of shite. I listened to about 1/3 of this drivel

I’m excited for this to be over already

This is just more Bjork garbage. Yeesh bad singing - I don't understand how anyone could like her music. 3/10.

Very unsure about this album at first listen. A little harmonica action and faint yelling at the beginning of Traitor. No idea what they are saying. It's really whiny and screamy. I don't think I like this.

Nah. I like bjork but this is shite.

It's just Bjork. Full stop. It's Bjork with messed up guitar twangs. Nope.

so so bad.

Kinda underwhelming - I guess Bjork had to start somewhere. Nothing really stands out - very standard alt rock

I'm Alright

I almost gave this a 5 because of how impressive it is to make something this bad.

"Birthday" unerträglich nervig zum Teil, aber dann zwischendrin auch wieder gut. Sehr eigenartig. Motorcrash absoluter scheiß Text. Insgesamt mehr Nervig als Funky. Die beiden Sänger*innen haben doch völlig einen an der Waffel. Thanks but no thanks.
