Reviews (page 12 of 13)

First song on the album was p good

I thought it was ok. Not their best album by a long shot.

pretty good, like his voice and the energy, album doesn't flow well but each song is good.

Great fun! Not full of smash hits, but plenty to enjoy.

Fun, lots of guitar.

This is a very mediocre album to me. I just am not much of a Queen fan. It is certainly a listenable album but not necessarily one I'll come back to. It didn't have any bad tracks but certainly some mid tracks. Killer Queen is a fantastic song and obviously the best one on the album.

Great lyrics and guitar solos.

Honestly, Killer Queen is a great song but I wasn't crazy about the rest of the album. It wasn't bad by any means but there are plenty of other Queen albums I'd go back to before this one.

Really good, but not their best.

Queen is notable for being a singles band. The singles, Killer Queen, Brighton Rock, and the album's namesake are fantastic spectacles of songwriting that stand on their own for years to come. For the rest of the album, it's pretty good! Not nearly as great but I enjoyed the listen for the most part. It's a fun, hard-rockin' album that's simply here for a good time.

Einzelne songs machen aber schon durchaus was her. 6/10

Diese quietsche nummer "bring back that leroy brown" auch komplette musical scheiße.

1974. Killer Queen, Flick of The Wrist

3/5 good album but not enough to buy.

A bit of a mixed bag. Queen has always been a singles band to me, not meaning that as any shade (cos their singles are great). A few hits, but the songs that flow together do so in such a jumpy, weird way that it's somewhere between glam camp and a poorly-run stage show. Also, if Freddie Mercury is your lead vocalist, you let Freddie Mercury do lead vocals. No one else. Favorite tracks: "Stone Cold Crazy", "Dear Friends", "Killer Queen", "In The Lap Of the Gods (Revisited)"

Good music.

Truly the only not-totally-positive Queen experience I can remember. It just doesn't feel fully realized? Like the musicality is there and some songs are great (Killer Queen most notably), but I can't get behind the whole thing.

Hyvää queeniä. En ollu aiemmin kuullu tältä levyltä varmaan yhtään biisiä aiemmin, mutta menee kyllä jatkoon.

Muutama tykki biisi ja salee Queenin paras levy

Expected to like this more than I did. Granted it all was fine and I didn't dislike anything, but a lot of the tracks were just ok to me. Killer Queen rules though.

Solid Queen album. Already has that rock-opera sound. Not incredibly outstanding compared to other Queen records.

Yup. That was Queen.

Not my favorite Queen album, but still good.

As innovative and quirky Queen is, nothing beyond the hits caught my attention on this one. Killer Queen and Stone Cold Crazy are awesome but some of the others got a little too whispy for my taste when I listen to Queen I'm more on the rock side than the roll side but again, doesn't make it a bad album, just not one of my favs.

This is pretty decent, has some really good songs on it too Now I’m Here and Stone Cold Crazy are brilliant rock songs in themselves An easy and fair ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cool hard rock with some psych elements (swear those Freddie screams were inspiration for Pink Floyd's The Wall) but nothing that blew me out the water Already Saved: Killer Queen Saved After Listening: Flick Of The Wrist*, Now I'm Here

I like Queen but probably wouldnt listen again.

Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy, Flick of the Wrist... No estoy seguro...

Good album great theatrics

she makes me is really nice. freddie is such a good singer.

Although I have heard many tracks from Queen, "Killer Queen" might be the only track I was familiar with prior to listening to this album. This album is a reminder that Brian May (lead guitar) is worth listening to. With some of the vocals given to others besides Mercury and allowing for solo work from May, this album has music that is not easily identified as music from Queen (e.g. "Tenement Funster"). I would be tempted to skip the last two tracks of this album, but they don't reduce my rating below 3 stars. No new favorites from this album, but I enjoyed listening.

Gimme a good guitar and I‘ll give 3.3

Favourite Song: In The Lap Of The Gods. 3.4

One of my favourite Queen songs on this album - Brighton Rock and I am a Queen fan to. Great album. 3 stars

Bit of it all, got the slow ballads, the fast rock, a lullaby, Leroy Brown is a ragtime tune, and some rock jams; Stone Cold Crazy is a great high-tempo tune which is then followed by a lullaby. Album really bounces back and forth with the styles and they have a lot of different ideas going on. Still it's all Queen so it works.

Fun listen. Queen never quite hits home perfectly with me, but you can't deny that this is a solid album with some really fun tracks.

Brighton Rock is a guitar masterpiece

Not much in typical Queen music I’m familiar with so I only enjoyed a few songs. Bring back Leroy brown and tenement funster were my favorite.

Enjoyed it, nice queen album you can instantly hear it’s them

Certainly not the greatest album by Queen, in my opinion, but a solid guitar-heavy record that brought the band to popularity in the USA. You can really tell the band stretched themselves to make this a very "in your face" and technically complex album. Mercury's range really stays in the upper register throughout the majority of this record, but most the studio tracks will never hold up sonically to the live renditions.

Some ok songs, musical theater, Proto punk drug infused rambling

Super fun. Sexy. Sassy. Pumping guitar solos. Some weaker tracks in there let’s it down but it sure passes the time eh???

Good songs, though they tend to overdo the theatrics.

Queen para empezar, casi nada.

This record is the most consistent fun I've had with a Queen record. They've always been a bit of a singles band for me, so Sheer Heart Attack is a nice surprise. The arrangements are more complex and explosive than their older material, and doesn't suffer from some of the more egregious experimentation of their 80s material. Fav Tracks: Brighton Rock, Killer Queen and Bring Back That Leroy Brown.

This was a really varied and fun album that bridges Queen's glam rock/live band chops and some inventive studio trickery. I was taken aback when someone other than Freddie Mercury started singing on "Tenement Funster"! Some of the transitions are pretty remarkable. While a few songs are a little indulgent, I enjoyed the overall experience of this record. Rating 3.5/5 Favourite tracks: "Killer Queen", "Now I'm Here", "She Makes Me"

It’s Queen, it’s pop/rock, it’s non offensive & pleasantly welcoming...but it’s safe and run o’the mill. In other words a bit boring. You can drive around in your car listening to it and by the time the last track finishes you could be fooled into believing you just listened to one very long song instead of the full 13 or so on the album. They all kinda sound alike and none really stand out. I’m giving it a rather bland 3 stars.

Never heard this one but seems like a transitional album for them, moving on from their prog roots (e.g. "Ogre Battle" from their previous record) to big arena rock and their anthemic destiny. The vocal harmonies really do it for me. Four voices in concise, majestic arrangements, fit into a compressed metal tube. The Queen sound is born. Brian May seems to be enjoying playing around with heavy delay, and the guitar solos sound rad repeating onto itself and creating percussion. For the first time realizing Queen probably had a big influence on 80s glam rock. I bet Eddie Van Halen loved Brian May. Bigger picture question - when is arrogance welcome in music? People like Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger (and even Boston bad boy Steven Tyler) can strut and pomp all over a stage and I love it. Their inflated egos can blow up a stadium and it's fantastic. But why is it such a turn off when a Johnny Rotten or a Bono put their arrogance on display? Maybe it's an authenticity thing. Anyhow, in the end, this album is the soundtrack to a Broadway musical about an elf queen (chaotic good) and a lightning dragon. B

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Not bad.

I thought I had listened to this album. Guess not! Knew only the two hit singles (Killer Queen, Now I'm Here).

I know it was Queen but I only really liked the commercial tracks. Consequently ***

Too complex for me, I just like Killer Queen

Not classic queen yet

Enjoyed it. It was fun.

Bang average

Gives a really good feel of them right on the edge of superstardom... but not my favorite.

Queen was my favourite group when I was in High School. They certainly had style and flair, plus some pretty darned good musicmanship and of course the inimitable Freddie.

Misfire was a track I never heard before that I liked. But please no more Queen.

Never been the biggest fan of Queen, but it was interesting to hear how their operatic influences developed in the early years. top 3 Killer Queen, Flick of the Wrist, Lily of the Valley

Classic Queen

Didn't enjoy this as much as I expected to. Quite a few samey ones.. and weird ones that I wasn't into. Was a bit much at times - but I know that is Queen

Decent.

Pretty good. One of the better Queen albums as a whole. 7/10

Killer Queen is clearly the standout, but the album has enough interesting bites to keep it interesting.

Pretty good, not something I’d likely play again other than the hits. 3,5

not the best Queen album but still good

Obviously everyone knows the classic Queen songs, but the songs on this album surprised me quite a bit. Queen with Guitar solos and constant drumming was a pleasant change from Bohemian Rhapsody.

I don’t think I’ve heard this album before. The radio plays Queen way to much but was good to hear some different Queen songs

great sound but definitely not queen's best outside killer queen

Pretty good, but later Queen albums are better

Eh s' kay

A bit uneven. Some Killer and some filler. A thirteen track album shouldn't have three sub-2 minute tracks. Best track: Killer Queen

Solid but still feels like they’re finding their footing. Killer Queen is a top 10 track tho

Definitely some of the rawest Queen tracks I've ever heard and prob the best moments of this style of glam rock. Still can't get as enthusiastic about the record's theatrical flourishes as it sounds like the band is performing them but there are some great riffs and I love riffs. Also "Stone Cold Crazy" is thrash as hell and goes extremely hard.

I was surprised at how heavy some of the songs on Queen II were, and I'm still surprised that some of this goes pretty hard, but Sheer Heart Attack is a lot more of the over the top, dramatic, and theatrical Queen sound that I expect from them, and I just don't really like it. I'm just not a fan of Queen. They have my full respect for what they were able to achieve, and Freddie Mercury is a phenomenal singer, but this just isn't for me.

Not for me

Is this a safe space for disliking Queen?

Some good some pretty rough

Far too operatic, dramatic, and vocally pretty for more liking. The music is great (usually) but then Freddy's gotta sing the hell out of the songs or make some ditty thingy. Boring and not to my tastes. Not ABBA/ELO horrid though. 2 "give me more Minor Threat" stars.

Was mid. Didn't hate any part of it and there was a couple of cool guitary bits, but I really wouldn't listen again.

This seems a bit better than other Queen albums I've heard. A little more proggy and they were really into fading the sound between left and right.

killer queen is great but the rest of the album was kinda. not the best. 2 me. even the songs i really really tried to enjoy were just. meh. like idk maybe it’s just bc i have high expectations bc it’s literally queen but it was not what i was expecting or wanting really

first time listening to a full album of Queen. it was nowhere near as bad as i feared. but it was still Queen.

I love queen, but I didn’t know many songs from this album so I was excited !! Fav song is ‘Killer Queen’.

killer queen and lily of the valley were good but the rest were not my cup of tea

boring

Oh wow, a Queen album!

Annoyingly unfocused - when they got it together, it sounds great (Killer Queen), otherwise it's a bunch of pompous noise

I don't know what to say, exactly. Sheer Heart Attack is the album that queen released between my two favorite queen albums. Queen 2, my favorite, and a night at the opera, an undisputed classic. This one find them in a bit of a weird place. Feels like they move back to their hard/glam rock origins in the first album, abandoning the prog rock of queen 2, and not yet arriving to the blend of a night at the opera. Well, I don't really like this place. It's a middle ground that doesn't live them with much material, "meat", to this record. I don't want to be to harsh with it, it still has quality in it. Killer Queen of course, the opener is very good, and other than that I particularly loved "She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes)", a great brian may ballad. I was thinking of a 2.8, if it's fine with you.

Could have used a bit more time between Queen albums on this project, to be honest. But I’m also not sure if I would have gelled with this even in the best mindset. It feels like the pieces of this band haven’t quite locked together yet, so it ends up sounding closer to other, more generic hard rock albums from the time. Standout moment: For good reasons, Killer Queen is the one song here that’s lingered in the culture and it still holds up.

It's like if a Led Zeppelin tribute band and Paul McCartney had a gay baby with a learning disability.

Sure, Killer Queen isn't bad. The following 25 minutes are boring Queen stuff before they fuck about, and then it's over. 2.45 so that I can round down.

overrated, poor vocal mixing, good instrumentals, freddie mercury jolly ahh goofy ahh lyrics and rhythms merchant

favs: killer queen lily of the valley in the lap of the gods in the lap of the gods... revisited rating 1.5/5

Not my favorite of Queen, overall good.

This is my third Queen album in this project. The other two were pretty early on, and I was writing shorter comments at the time. When I listened to A Night at the Opera I gushed about how it was one of the first real "rock" albums I ever bought when it came out. When I listened to Queen II I commented about how I thought Night at the Opera might be the only Queen album I really liked. Listening to Sheer Heart Attack today I had that same thought. I think Queen was a band that was in search of itself for the first three albums, and then once they found out who they were they just expanded on the theme, and IMO never as good after that. The only song I truly enjoyed on this album was Killer Queen, which I've heard thousands of times before. The rest was either uninteresting to me, or kinda silly. Songs I thought I might like, and want to save, went places that I ended up not liking and not wanting to save. I do think the production was very good, for what it's worth.

Killer queen on its own makes this at least 2 stars, the rest is very skipable

I think I've been finding that my status as a Queen fan is 'Fairweather fan', as in I enjoy the hits and the rest just kinda miss.

Proud to be a Queen hater. 4/10

Good album. Certainly not their best, but good stuff. This is a the first Queen album on this list which I did not realize until this popped up. That is surprising given the love of British bands by the author.

I never considered Queen something special and this album didn't change my mind. Very mediocre and forgettable.

tbh more boring than the coldplay album; not terrible, but sooo boring

Only 1 good song, Killer Queen

Obvious tracks stand out, stormtrooper in stilettos good, little theatrical to my taste at poibtw

I got bored.

This is my third Queen album on this list. A lot more meat and potatoes than the other two, well executed in every department but still not for me. Hopefully there aren’t any more.

Brought up on Queen. Don’t mind listening but wouldn’t be my go to

👸🏿

1. rock - 1 2. killer - 2 3. fun - 1 4. uurizt - 1 5. lilly - 2 6. here -2 7. lap - 1 8. cold - 2 9. friendz - 0 10. fire - 1 11. brouun - 1 12. makez - 1

By the standards of these absolute cretins, this wasn't that bad I suppose. There was only about six instances of me wanting to pull out my own teeth in frustration at this talented people failing to take themselves or their audience seriously, and there were some good guitar parts and reasonable melodies. It was still a fairly painful listen, but maybe their best yet.

A decent number of Queen classics but overall just kinda blah as an album

Early album with a couple of good songs. You can see where others songs have evolved from this. Also one or two really sound like The Who were an influence.

Now i’m here vind ik wel leuk. Nog een kleine disclaimer: marie antoinette zou nooit gezegd hebben “ let them have cake”

Ongelofelijke zanger, ongelofelijke gitarist, ongelooflijke kutmuziek.

maybe I am not a queen person 2

Unfortunately, Killer Queen will ALWAYS be a hymn for me. Still, Queen will never be my cup of tea entirely. Definitely more original than some other of their albums (does not mean I think it's good, I said original)

I was disappointed with this album. I was expecting powerful and bombastic music from this band. The album was really boring.

Always been a fan of Queens Greatest Hits so this is my first full album! Pretty forgetful record with nothing really standing out to make me want to listen again!

Man, I like queen but there's a reason only like two of these have survived the cultural zeitgeist

I've only ever really heard nothing but the most overplayed hits from Queen, but people have said their albums as a whole are a lot better. Well, there's a couple of pretty good songs here but otherwise... eh, it's still mostly just what I expected and that's not for me at all.

I’m sorry. I hate Queen. I know I’m wrong but I just cannot STAND them. It’s too theatrical and over-the-top in the same way hair metal is.

4/10 - pretty mediocre, no standout songs

I forgot it was on; nothing special here Low 2

Never listened to Queen by choice but this was cool, nothing that gagged me or made me run to Spotify to add it to a playlist, but it was a fun listening experience. They look cunty as fuck on this cover too. Top songs Misfire (turns out this is a song about erm sex) Stone cold crazy (trasher metal- which makes me feel like a white girl in doc martens with micro bangs but not in the modern age in like the early 80s)

I appreciated the structure of this album, all the songs flowing into each other smoothly…but I did not like said songs. I could’ve gone my life only hearing the Best Of Queen & be happier for it. That Bohemian Rhapsody movie was so bad that it actually did ruin the band for me. People are always like “well if they remake such & such you’d still have the original film to go back to” … doesn’t apply to biopics apparently.

I don’t know how to judge Queen. They are so wildly overplayed that I go in with a mindset of “ugh” even if there is only one song I’ve heard before. So far, I’m not sure they have an album that needs to be on this list even though their absence would be weird.

Guitar does undeniably rip on brighton rock. Rest is forgettable, mid band honestly. Brian May is an astrophysicist! YAY SCIENCE! fuckin normie nerd music

Okay so I’m a renowned queen hater and this didn’t change my mind but there were a couple of tracks I enjoyed and hadn’t heard before plus pfc the well known single. I’m hoping more Queen albums will appear and will test my long held opinion of them, we shall see!

This was a strange experience. Queen the band and the singles of Queen are writ large on my cultural heritage. I could sing every word of maybe 10 if their best songs and i think Freddie was a genius. They have produced some of the best, most fun, undefinable music in my child hood. However, this album fucking sucked. Horrible proggy, silly, badly dated music and an album that had some much shite in it i dont think i finished it. The quality control is not present and this was so all over the place it hurt.

One of these days people are going to wise up and realise Queen aren’t all that

Not a big fan

Not their best.

Queen is what I would call a "Singles band." They are best listened to one song at a time, or in a Playlist with their "greatest of." Doing that, you get nothing but arena rock hit after arena rock hit, guitar rifts and Mercury's charisma paving the way for a good time. If you don't, though, you're set to listen to a lot of fluff. Case in point, Sheer Heart Attack. The best song off this album, Killer Queen, may be my favourite Queen song outside of Bohemian Rhapsody, and it's absolutely fantastic. There are other songs that are fun, like Brighton Rock and Now I'm Here, but I wouldn't say you have to listen to them. The rest of the songs are glam/arena rock that isn't particularly interesting to me. Arena rock really only works for me when it's at its best, and a lot of these songs are not. May's guitar rifts are great, but they aren't attached to anything I'd like to listen to again. And while Queen's audacity and pretention started on this album, it's ironic that I could have done with a little more. The sheer bombasity that Mercury and co are known for is missing from this album l, or rather wasn't developed fully until later. Also there are just some bad songs on here. In the Lap of the Gods is eyerolling, pretentious without the fun, and Bring Back Leroy Brown is actually funny in how bad it is. That all being said, it is impressive how fun this is to listen to. I wouldn't say it's good, but I can understand why people enjoy it even if it wasn't for me. Also, an album that's about 30 minutes long should be commended whenever the chance arises. Not a good album, but one I don't regret listening to. Highlights are Killer Queen.

It's sad to say, but I'm stunned at how mediocre this album is. I find Night at the Opera to be one of the greatest albums ever produced. And it's striking how much this sounds like that next album (from the styles of the songs right down to specific riffs). But what's missing is the most important element - well written songs. With the exception of Killer Queen, I'm hearing nothing memorable here. On top of that, it doesn't flow. Freddie and Brian have each figured out how to sound amazing. They just haven't figured out how to meld their soundd into a unity. On top of that, the engineering is pretty poor. It sounds thin compared to other recordings of the day. To think they fixed it all so completely in a single year is astonishing. If I want to hear this era of Queen, I'm reaching for NATO 99 times out of 100. As an aside, I have to lament Roger Taylor's contributions to this band. His drumming is plodding. The guy could keep time, but his drums sound awful (tuned poorly and too low), his feel is stiff, and he's always playing behind the beat - which sounds great in a soul band, but works like a parachute on the energy of a rock band. As for his pen, I always thought I'm in Love with My Car was wholly tongue in cheek. But after hearing Tenement Funster, I'm not so sure. And finally, his audacity is breathtaking. You have Freddie Fucking Mercury in your band and YOU'RE going to sing lead on your songs???!!!?!? I mean, Roger's voice is pretty damned good. But Freddie Fucking Mercury is in the band. It's bewildering.

not my fave

Uninspiring for me personally, not my favorite style, kind of felt like generic classic rock. Brian May is an absolute stud guitar player though and he demonstrated abilities that I was previously unaware of. The harmony stacking and 4 part vocals are fascinating especially thinking of what they had at the time.

Some Killer, some filler.

Not a queen fan

I love Queen...but I didn't love this album.

I don’t love multiple movements in a song, overproduction, or layered harmonies so this is very much not for me

I actually don't much like Queen. Sorry.

not my thing I like killa queen doe

It was ok not a queen fan though

This album confirmed for me that I like the hits from Queen but I don’t really like Queen….sorry but prob wouldn’t return to this

I have almost nothing to say. I liked Killer Queen, which I knew before. I’m sure there are other Queen albums I would like more and be more engaged with.

Killer Queen was the only track I knew. Caro has Bowie, I have Queen. On paper they should be one of my favourite bands, but outside of the singles I just don’t get them. Outstanding musicians? Yes. Freddie one of the greatest showmen? Yes. I just don’t love the album tracks :-(

Not my favorite queen music but some parts I kinda liked. I dont think ima add any of the songs tho

I knew Queen played. Still don't understand the cult obsession with Bohemian Rhapsody. Feels like music from theater. This is for fans of hamilton (derogatory).

I assume there will be better queen albums

Don't get me wrong, I love Queen, especially their big songs, and their process, but I much rather prefer the music from Hot Space, than Sheer Heart Attack

Better than the last one. Just when they get going they change into something ridiculous.

i'm sooooo sick of queen im skipping through this

There are signs here of the eclectic band that Queen would become, but the majority of this is hard rock with a bit of a theatrical feel. The first side is the harder side, with the unpredictable "Brighton Rock" and a set of songs that all flow into one another. I like the idea, but each of the songs are so similar that they just all kind of blur together. The second side contains a lot more variety, with a couple slow dramatic songs ("Dear Friends" and "She Makes Me") and a couple quick frantic ones ("Stone Cold Crazy" and "Leroy Brown"). Neither sound works for me; they all lean too far in either direction and just end up sounding boring or silly. There's some enjoyable stuff here, but I don't find it memorable and often find it annoying. The band would do better when they took bigger swings.

Queen and Freddy Mercury are incredibly talented but if I never hear this album again it will be way too soon

This was not great, very disjointed and kinda random

i didn't like it very much. not weird enough for the freaks and not poppy enough for the sugar rush. freddie not yet a true powerhouse vocalist brighton rock unreal tho

I obviously known Queen but can’t say I ever listened to this album and it’s definitely… unexpected. I expected it to be good. It wasn’t. A couple of very good songs (Stone Cold Crazy and Killer Queen) and a lot of not amazing songwriting. I was actually surprised at how much of it was very heavy metal sounding. It’s just that it felt aimless and the songs didn’t amount to much. It’s actually striking how short Queen’s creative peak was. Maybe 2-3 albums. Anyways let’s say two stars I guess.

Muito mais do mesmo de Queen. Não me prendeu a atenção o álbum.

352/1089 - I don't like Queen very much but I think this is the one with "Stone Cold Crazy" which is the only song I like from them. I haven't listened in a while so I'm interested to see if I'm gonna re-evaluate them: I still only like Stone Cold Crazy and don't really care about much of their other stuff. I'm not a fan of the theatrical and choral style of Queen's harmony but they're very good at what they do and were pretty influential. Going down a star from a 3 for the police sirens in that one song, I hate listening to that shit when I'm driving.

Sheer Heart Attack - Freddie wrote this after going on one of Len Houmous’ infamous acid trips. 2.3 6/13 Now I’m Here

I think i prefer greatest hits compilations for Queen...

A couple of good songs don’t make a good album

Barely survivable, just like the albums namesake condition.

Just can’t stand this band, singer or guitar tone. Not my thing.

Queen albums cover to cover are torturous. This is a greatest hits band

Strong start, a little bit self indulgent

-rock album, dont really enjoy rock -dont really have any stand out tracks that i’d go back to except “killer queen” and “she makes me”

first few songs are pretty boring, except for killer queen. album starts actually picking up at lily of the valley, but doesn't really get much higher the next couple songs. in the lap of the gods so far is pretty good, but only being on track 9 this album isn't really for me. Peak of this album was lily of the valley or killer queen, but other than that it was not for me. I can't really see people liking it either, probably like 4.5 to 5 out of 10.

I really like one song from this album but the rest I didn’t love them ..

2 Stars (5/15)

Brighton Rock is horrible. The chorus gimmick is overdone. The rock parts range from mid to decent. The soft vocal sections are lame.

Really trying to find something about it Queen to like, but they just sound so boring. I really don’t get why they got massive.

queen? more like mid

Kansas, but British

Too posh

Bad band

Too all over the place for me, I’ll stick to the best of.

Hot take: Queen have like 3 good songs and none of them are on Sheer Heart Attack. Not absolutely awful but there's nothing on here that'll bring me back. Imagine devoting your life to this and rabbits like. NEXT!

'It would be of small avail / To talk of magic in the air'; 'Gunpowder, gelatine / Dynamite w/ a laser beam'; 'Synchronize your minds and see / The beast within him rise.' The once progers are now wannabe showstoppers, but the prog in them won't die, as those snatches of lyricism illustrate. It's a shame b/c Freddie Mercury has one of the great voices in rock history, and yet I can't claim to be moved by something this repetitively crescendoing and theatrical. At their rare tolerable ('Killer Queen'), they're a somewhat fresh amalgam of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, w/ harmonies inspired by The Beach Boys. Mostly tho, they're lost not knowing what to do or where to go: technically proficient, the band however never dramatizes w/ a soul.

Sorry, couldn’t get through this. Got as far as “In the lap of the gods” which I was particularly not enjoying. First track I thought was ok as was Killer Queen. But can’t do Queen anymore. Life’s too short.

Quietly quitting Queen qus quite qwrap

I'm sure these are musically difficult, but I can't work out what they are trying to do with these songs. I don't get anything out of this. It's all too polished and sterile with a few exceptions.

Grossly over-rated pop band with catchy tunes and empty lyrics. Fairy floss pop.

theater kids of the world unite!

I’m a casual fan of Queen. I like their hits - Killer Queen is one of my favorites - but the rest of the album didn’t do it for me, especially if Freddie wasn’t singing. I’m sure they’ll be more Queen albums coming, maybe others will be better.

Do you know what I hate about Queen? Pretty much all of this. I like that it rocks and that it is whimsical, but those never really come together well. It’s a buffet of bold choices that don’t blend. When it aligns, it’s transcendent. But it doesn’t really happen much on this album. If you love Queen, you’ll love this. But if your indifferent, as I am, there is much more that you’ll be looking for from the overall experience.

Probably as far from cool as you can get, but they are objectively good at what they do, and what they do is not always as great as their legendary status suggests... all of which makes this really hard to rate. I've definitely got a soft spot for certain bits of Queen, and some of those bits are on this album, but there is also some filler on here (Filler Queen - haha). I dunno - as a general listening experience, it's all a bit dated and naff, but In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited) and Killer Queen are irresistably catchy, well-crafted examples of what Queen do.

forgot to rate this one when i listened — not my favorite queen album, idk. mostly made me wanna listen to other queen

It does suck, i find my self defending Queen a lot, and i don't even like them that much. Killer Queen is good, but this isn't a good album. Its very OTT and the music is a bit cheesy, its just not really for me.

Not for me. Their sound grates on me and I think the theatricality masks a lack of good songs. The reason it wasn’t a one is that it wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting.

I really dislike Queen. I can see how the theatricality and, to a cremation amount, tongue in cheek sleaze might appeal to some, but I absolutely hate the vocal harmonies used in it and doubling of vocals and guitars that is something of a hallmark of their sound. Although this particular album seems to have less of it, and is a bit more glam rock influenced, I’m still not keen on it at all.

Worst Queen album, way overrated

boringg

I tried to go into this with an open mind, as I do not enjoy Queen's music very much. They've got some hits that I enjoy in the right setting, but their whole style of rock has never appealed to me. Sheer Heart Attack has not changed this view. This has all the Queen stuff, theatrical, bombastic arrangements. It's all very dramatic, tightly wound. Freddie Mercury is an incredible vocalist; Brian May, an incredible guitarist. Still, it just doesn't connect with me. Over-produced, and technically proficient. They're all tremendous musicians, but the sum of the parts consistently falls short for me and this album was no exception.

Too theatrical for my taste. I appreciate some of Queen’s work, but this record is much of what I don’t like about them.

Queen and I never really got on. Good, I guess, but meh.

Queen is one of those bands where I feel that if you're overly critical of them the fans are going to come out of the woodworks and give you 1000 lashes of the cane. Discogs wants to classify this as 'prog rock' but I think that might be pushing it a bit. This is a decent album by a good band, and while most people remember Queen for their hits only one on this album "Killer Queen". I think that most people (me included) know any of these other songs and just know the hits. Which makes me think is a band great when they only have about 1 hit song off each record. For those that love Queen I'm sure that this is a great album but 1 good song out of 13 on the record classic does not make. 2/5

One good track

Even if its not for me, I can at least respect the talent and recognize the blueprint it was drawing out. That being said, it's really not for me. Calmer songs like She Makes Me were enjoyable to listen to - and that's what made me realize I'm just not a fan of the theatrical crooning in combination with the bombastic riffs. It executes what it tries to do well, very in-your-face. I just really want it to get out of my face. They aren't a bad band whatsoever, I just cannot get with the program and have 0 desire to try. If I'm rating this on pure artistic quality: It's a strong 4. the album knows its campy and leans into it heavily without coming across as kitsch. The skill does not take a backseat to the concept. However, if I'm rating this purely on personal taste? a 2.5

Other than Killer Queen this was a little dull and forgettable.

i had my bohemian rhapsody phase too but i outgrew it and now queen just sounds like a bunch of bad bull shit to me

Pompous shite. Seven Sea was great, but they went rapidly downhill.

Rokkimeiningillä mentiin. Kovaa tilutusta.

at least it’s got stone cold crazy! (queen blows)

Sheer Fart attack: Killer Queen carries the whole thing, I like the mix of the album overall, something that queen always has under control, but idk why is want to listen to any songs before or after KQ.

Enjoyed more than I thought. At its best when it's Dollar Store Quadrophenia. Queen is a classic "great musicians with very few good songs".

Queen aren't really an album band in general. This albums no exception. It's all fine, not great. Killer Queen is clearly the hit of the album and I probably won't ever revisit any of the rest The 5est of 5/10s

They begin to grow into their famous sound, ditching (some) prog for harder, faster, glammier guitar-and-drum rock. Still, the irreplaceable part of Queen is Freddie Mercury, but the band’s identity in prog-ness means they have to defy expectations by inserting unstrategic weirdness, so Mercury is frequently sidelined for blah compositional arty tracks. You can still feel the foundations for their next few albums, when they figured out how to stop chopping off their feet for effect, but it doesn’t feel fully realized yet. Peaks: Brighton Rock, Killer Queen, In the Lap of the Gods… Revisited Valleys: Tenement Fuster, Bring Back Leroy Brown, She Makes Me,

Not "classic" Queen but not bad

Like I've said in other reviews I do not like queen and once again no difference here. Its just sounds too annoying to me. Another one bites the dust is probably a contender for the most annoying radio hit I've ever heard. 4/10 Favourite: Brighton Rock Least Favourite: Bring Back That Leroy Brown

What do you wnat me to say? I like "Killer Queen" and that's about it. Nothing else stood out as particularly memorable or exciting, and it's certainly nothing groundbreaking. Is one song good enough to carry this to 3 or 4 stars? I think not

one star for the effort and one star for my dad but really mostly i did not find it enjoyable.

so i had a big queen phase when i was a preteen but it was mostly the mainstream songs but basically i got really sick of all queen songs so i didnt love this but i WOULD give it a chance another time when i am not debilitatingly hungover

Killer Queen is brilliant, the rest feels like a snooze fest.

Queen doesn’t do it for me Favorite tracks: Killer Queen, Misfire

Not listened to this before and although there are a few great tracks I can’t say that I enjoyed it overall. Feels like they’re still working out what their style is at this point.

Me: “eurgh this is all so very cabaret” Also me: “she’s a killer queeeeeeen”

Killer queen good. Quite like Flick of the wrist but I don’t know why it’s here

Aldri hørt et helt Queen-album før. Ikke helt min kopp te dette.

Interesting way to start an album... 5 minutes of instrumental, a strange choice. For some reason I was under the impression that this band was louder, it was too quiet for me. The voice sounds the same as all their other songs, and I find it a little annoying if I'm being honest. The songs all sounded a little too similar to each other. The album cover is weird looking. My favorite was "killer queen". 4/10

There is no band that has a bigger gulf between their greatest hits album and any single one of their albums released. So much wizardy bullshit on here. 2/5

Only one hit here, and not one of their best, Killer Queen. Still, I had reasonable hopes for this — but it didn’t click for me. Maybe this is one of those bands where, outside of the hits, the music is second rate. Not sure which other bands are like this for me (Hall & Oates, ZZ Top?) but there’s gotta be a fair number of ‘em.

I see the appeal of some songs (Killer Queen). The rest of the album didn’t fly for me. Not mean to be listened to as a comprehensive piece of work.

i liked killer queen since ive heard it before. the rest i could tell was decent i just hate music today i think. 2/5

There was a lot of idea here that Freddie had and most of them don’t work

Queen is nothing more than a greatest hits band to me and the hits are so overplayed that Queen is never on my listening radar. This is a one song album and the rest are mostly tedious to mediocre at best.

I will always believe Queen are a singles band. Killer Queen is amazing and the rest isnt. The 2nd half is just boring to me.

kinda mid ngl, very front heavy, great guitar work tho

Not a big fan of this. But I did learn that Neko Case's "Misfire" is a cover, which I did not know until listening to this album.

2.5* An overall decent Queen album. It's rare I'm not in the mood for some operatic rock. Killer Queen is an incredible song, and Now I'm Here is also a gem. A surprise: Bring Back That Leroy Brown is quite fun!

FAVO: Killer Queen

The best track is ‘Killer Queen’ by a large margin. Pretty good, but to my mind Queen is a singles band – not an album band. Pick up Queen’s Greatest Hits if you want to listen to this band.

**An ok album

The darkness?

I just don't get Queen. Sorry.

I like Queen but when I say that if I listen to Queen it’s their Greatest Hits or a Spotify playlist. Obviously Killer Queen is an absolute classic but I honestly don’t think there’s another track that I can say I really rated that highly. It isn’t terrible it’s just meh. Top Track - Killer Queen

Never really been a big fan of Queen, but this was even more of a miss for me. All over the place musically, but not in a way that works for me

I’m not the biggest Queen fan, idk what exactly it is about them but I kind of die a bit inside listening to them. I think they are fantastic song writers but this album didn’t seem to include much of that. The echoplex guitar solo section of Brighton Rock was cool but didn’t really add anything to the song. The vocals and guitar being hard panned on Misfire was an insanely dumb decision. Brian May is a fine composer but I felt his guitar work on this album often ended up being what was putting me off the songs. Overall another mediocre Rock standard with a lot of waffle and not much actual substance. Favourites - Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy

⭐️⭐️ 1001 ALBUMS- # 56 Sheer GLAM Attack! 💥 Queen’s third studio album represents a major leap forward in both ambition and accessibility. It bridges the gap between the heavy, prog-laced intricacy of Queen II and the radio-ready flamboyance of A Night at the Opera. With this record, Queen crystallized their identity: theatrical, eclectic, and unapologetically bold. The recording does however suffer from inconsistency with its tone; jumping around from baroque ballads to overproduced hard rockers that makes the listening experience feel disjointed. The tracklist is also underwhelming as a complete set, as among the standouts are songs that are clearly underdeveloped. 🎧 Classic Track: Killer Queen 🎧 Deep Cut Gem: Stone Cold Crazy 🚫 Skip Track: She Makes Me Ultimately this album can’t really decide what it wants to be, the musicianship is as strong as anything Queen released, however the high points are so well beyond the low ones that is doesn’t find its comfortable footing as a cohesive package. 🖼️ Album Artwork: Gratuitous flamboyance Beneath the glitz and genre-hopping lies an album that’s sometimes more confused than confident; Queen’s ambition in the studio was groundbreaking, however that approach sometimes outpaces substance. This album is full of dense, multi-tracked arrangements—layered guitars, lush harmonies, vocal theatrics—but not every song justifies its bombast. Much of the album is lyrically lightweight or emotionally non-committal as tracks rely heavily on camp, innuendo, or abstract drama without any grounding in real emotional experience.

i really cannot get on board with queen .. i WANT to but i'd struggle to differentiate between their albums and see any progression or growth. endured this with gritted teeth tbh

A few good ideas surrounded by proggy nonsense. At least this album has a good song on this time (Killer Queen). It's still a 2 though. Also, why the hell am I listening to a Queen song where Freddie isn't singing??

not my bag

The albumn has a total run time of 38 mins. My favourite song was Killer Queen because it was the only song I knew from the album and did not last overly long. Over all I don’t really care for Queen. Even the song I knew from this album ‘Killer Queen’ did not mean i enjoyed it massively. I felt like some of the songs went on too long for no real reason. It was mostly wearing and incredibly average. The more symphonic elements didn’t blend particularly well the vocals were however strong with a tendency to do over harmonisation ie lily of the valley. Would not re listen to.

Didn’t love

Today i learned queen is kinda mid. Couple standouts but a lot of meh

These guys have some songs that I dislike a lot

i honestly like killer queen but eff off

Hmm nöd überzoge, liebe ghypti queens. Weder schön na dpannend gsi Mi scusi 2 throne

QWEEN isch en klassische fall bi mir vom best-of-syndrom das erklärt sich so, dasmer vo dene brüedere halt sich immer grad eifachs best of album gönnt und den sozege alli bangers uf eim huufe sich id wehne inesprützt und JAA ISCH DAS GEIL, OHHH SHIT ICH GSPÜR MICH GAR NÜME DAS ISCH SOOO GEIL, KWEEN ISCH SOOO GEIL HEY natürlich hend sind die bangers so chli nah dis nah erschine über mehreri jahre aber sonen jungspund wie ich weiss das halt nöd drum findi de ganz salat wos da so um mis QUIN stake umelit eifach nume langwiligi dekoration und eher chli abturnend slebe isch hart – drum segi da nume was die einzig wahri QUEEN immer seit: the time has come, for you to Lipsync for Your Life - RuPaul

low mid

A Night at the Opera managed to entertain me more than I expected based on my prior feelings towards Queen... This one didn't.

I’m simultaneously impressed and bored by Queen. Killer Queen is a classic but not a lot of other standouts to me. Brian May rocks though.

There’s one or two Queen songs I really love. More than a few I can’t stand. This album has neither. But overall Queen is still not for me.

I like almost everything I've heard from Queen previously, but this album just wasn't for me. Stone Cold Crazy stood out. If this is on the 1001 albums list, I'm guessing every one of Queen's albums are.

Good Start, only listening to killer Queen from this album before today (12.04.25) Not a massive Queen fan but a 2.5/5. ⭐️ Favourite Song-Tenement Funster

only really enjoyed the well known tracks

“Sampledelic”

Sheer Heart Attack is basically what I imagine glam rock to be. It seems to have heavily influenced stage and theatre type acts in a much more overt way than I connected previously (like SPG and Will Wood type stuff). Ultimately on Leroy Brown was for me, but not unpleasant overall. 2 Stars.

Freddy was an absolute king, but unfortunately that does not mean I have to like Queen.

They made some good albums. This wasn’t their best, but it captures their aesthetic.

Sounds like Queen. It's fine.

First ~5 tracks are faultless. The rest is alright.

Appreciate it but just not for me

Learned all the wrong lessons from the back half of Abbey Road and combined it with Prog Rock and extravagant over the top vocals. Nothing in this world scares me more than the phrase "Queen album tracks."

I consider myself a Queen fan. But I can now see why it is the greatest hits records which sold so well. There are some real low points here, so not one I'll be going back to.
