Reviews (page 6 of 6)

A banger and some good ones but if I never listen again I will be okay. Neil Young would have made it a 3.

Det var fint nok, men ikke noget som er mindeværdigt nok til at tage en plads på listen.

It kinda felt like it didn’t have an identity. I don’t know what am I a music expert? Otherwise was fine

singer songwriter, rock, 1970 -> 2

♾️ Love the One You're With

pretty mid, not a fan of this genre. wouldn't listen again.

If I wasn't 900+ albums into this list, I'd probably give this a 4... But I am. And there are many, many more 'must hear' albums better than this that I only gave a 3 to. So it gets a 2.

I think CSNY must have been more than the sum of their parts, because Stills on his own does do anything for me. Great guitar playing, and I loved the bluesy beat on Go Back Home, but I found most of the rest of the album lacking. Love The One You’re With is a good opener, but it raised my hopes for a better album.

Not great, not bad

Pretty run of the mill folk/singer-songwriter stuff from the era. Nothing stands out, but it's nice while it's on. Also instantly forgettable. You know, Mr. Dimery, you don't have to include every single artist that existed at the time, some (or a lot) of them we can do without.

Stephen Stills….when he is good he is very very good and when he is bad he is horrid. This album is the latter.

So far on this list I've had CSN albums, CSNY albums, and a bunch of albums from the individual members of those groups. I don't much care form, and this no exception. And the first track is lyrically awful.

If you can’t listen to a great record, then listen to this one… or don’t.

Had some interesting songs (go back home, black queen, love the one you’re with) but nothing that’s going to bring me back for repeat listens. Feels like songs that were mostly rejected from CSN/CSNY sessions.

I reviewed David Crosby's solo album a few days ago, and I didn't particularly care for it, so his bandmate won't have to do a lot on this album to win me over. I didn't think that I would be familiar with any of the songs on this album, but as it turns out, I know "Love the One You're With," and I think it's an awesome song. However, I had no idea that it was a Stephen Stills solo song, and I've spent the last 20-some-odd years of my life under the belief that it was a CSN song. Either way, if “Love the One You’re With” is any indication of how this album will sound, I think I might be in for a treat! “Love the One You’re With” is still a fantastic song in my book, but other than that leadoff song, I thought this Stephen Stills album was pretty ho-hum. After a really strong start, this album has some fine songs, but it never comes close to achieving anything as emotional or beautiful as “Love the One You’re With.” I didn’t find the lyrics on this album to be particularly interesting, and thematically, I didn’t think Stephen Stills had much to say either. The arrangements on this album were fine, and I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but “Love the One You’re With” was the only song that really managed to draw me in with its sound. When all was said and done here, I found myself left with a pretty generic early seventies rock album that left my brain as quickly as it entered my ears. While this album may not be my speed, I do have to elaborate on why I love that opening track so much. I love how the sound gently fades in, as the guitar, percussion, and organ all kick in. I love how the organ takes on a more prominent role as the song goes on. Stephen Stills’s vocals are great, and the backing vocals are excellent. The main melody is so bright and infectious, and I love the organ playing on the bridge. The ‘doo-doo-doo’s are so much fun to sing along with, and I always feel like this song ends way too soon. Sorry that I didn’t like your album much, Mr. Stills, but I’ll see you on Buffalo Springfield Again very soon.

Felt a little uneasy listening to that. Like it was what a serial killer would listen too on constant repeat.

Some of the tracks are good, others are annoying to listen to

kinda mid icl. nash on top

aprecio el eclecticismo pero casi nada acaba de cuajar bien o destacar. los features se llevan el disco. y qué pedo con la raya que trae el scan de la portada jsjsjsjs

I really don't know what he was going for with this album, but it also wasn't outright bad either. it's a 2.5 and i'll round down because i really don't want to relisten

What dull, boring 1970s folk rock. Stills is good on the guitar, but not enough to justify rounding this up from a 2.5.

What a talented musician, but I’m not going to listen to this ever again lol

Is this album Stills going?

Love the One You're With

This album is a perfect demonstration of the terrible need the world of the early 1970s had for the Stooges and the New York Dolls. The hypocrisy of the peace-love-and-harmony wing of the Woodstock generation is staggering in retrospect. And no other troupe of pouting pretense embodied that hypocrisy quite like the members of CSN&Y. Stills' biggest hit is a successful rock star's (apparently un-ironic) pitch to sell sexual perfidy as a virtue by wrapping it in hippie-hippie sentimentality. The album is beautifully recorded. And he could definitely play guitar. It's just too bad he, like his compadres, leveraged their musical talents to preach such nonsense, and preach it with such dripping condescension.

Decent. Name recognition maybe bumped this up for accolades IMO.

Talented singer and guitarist, but I found this so boring.

Love the one you’re with brings this to 2 stars. Despite its hippie cheesiness. The rest just makes you with you could hang out with Neil Young instead.

Started off okay, but lost me as it went on. Black Queen was a racket. 4/10

2 because its not dreadful but I can’t think of ant justification for a higher score. Anyway, I’m a Neil Young fan.

A completely normal album of music.

Fine I guess, for what it is. Nothing to write home about. I was trying to think what might be interesting about it beyond just being connected to CSN... I guess maybe 69 is early for this sort of thing, particular style of solo guy from band does kind of dull meander album. Maybe? I can't say it feels like something that needs marking anyway. I wrote the above before Arlen did their digging out from the book. Gonna leave as is. Lol.

This is an album I have listened to

Boring

I mean... Woof. He really needs Crosby, Nash, and Young to make this work. This is just naval gazy garbage.

Meh...not really a fan of solo Stills. "Love the One Your With" is the only recognizable track. Album ain't bad but I didn't gain anything from the listen. We may get the CSNY side solo projects on the list and I'd like to compare them against each other (suspect Y will take the cake). Stephen didn't wow me with his and I'm giving the record a lack-luster 2.07 stars.

I never paid much attention to the members of CSNY other than Neil Young. I always just figured that they each did their thing and the other 3 mostly fizzled out. I didn't expect much out of Stephen Stills solo album, but was delighted that it was more than just a throwaway album. It's a little soft rockish at times, but most of the album are relatively pleasant tracks. I had no idea he collaborated with the likes of Hendrix, Clapton, Ringo, etc. but he obviously was more of the talent behind CSNY than I originally figured. His voice brings a lot of emotion to the music so I mostly enjoyed this album with Love The One Your With as the clear stand out. Nothing special but better than expected. 2.41 stars

First song was good, everything else was pretty forgettable to bad

Om jag får säga det själv så är det här ganska tråkigt faktiskt. Och det får jag ju.

I really just don’t care

Pas giga fan

Some good stuff some sucks

OK in parts. Docking a point for Black Queen, an affront to the senses.

Good guitar, bad songs

Another album to file under the “Why?” category. It’s good for what it is, but I genuinely struggle to see why somebody would recommend this to be featured in this list. Bland, safe and predictable.

2 favs: - love the one you’re with - church (pt. of someone) - old times good times

Sorry SS. Great guitarist and a few good songs over career but as a solo artist too often lapses into pointless jams.

i actually didn't hate this album and the last track gave me chills and really made me feel something, i just don't like folk. at the end of the day he was right and you really DO need to love the one you're with so tens on that

Meh 😑

Geht so. Schöne Jazzige Harmien. Aber auch etwas überladen.

not as good as Manassas

Just couldn't get into this one. Feels like 3:00 o'clock on a Monday, and I just want to go home.

We have Led Zeppelin at home

I can’t deal with old white man music today.

Ehh, I thought love the one your with was a csny song. Fine

Pretty boring for me at this point. I've heard better versions of this genre 100x.

This fell off quite a bit from the first to last track. Tempted to rate it as a 2 but that feels mean.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH CROSBY AND NASH it's actually pretty nice for most of it. chalk one up for dad's music

Ok, rounding down to 2 stars as there are only like 2 songs id return to listen to

Meh. Pretty forgettable

Fint nok, folk’et, rocket, velskrevet, stabil guitar, lidt kedeligt

Pretty remarkable lineup - Clapton and Hendrix playing guitar is pretty cool and those songs have great guitar play as you'd expect. Love the One you're with is great as well, but as an *album* in entirety I don't know. I doubt I'll go back to this.

This is too much of a same sounding thing for me. I like "Love the One You're with" but the rest of the album is not as good. After reading the wikipedia I was shocked how highly this was thought of by critics at the time as it seems very indistinguishable from many other albums that were released in the twenty year period before and after this album. 1.5/5

Love the one you’re with - 5/1,5 Do for the others - 5/2,5 Curch - 5/1 Old times good times - 5/3 Go back home - 5/3,5 Sit yoursef down - 5/1 To a flame - 5/0,5 Black queen - 5/2 Cherokee - 5/2,5 We are not helpless - 5/1

Not a fan of this style of music. Not arguing that he’s good musician or not, I just don’t like it.

i like the funky little giraffe on the album cover but the music was mildly boring

I now understand why early 70s rock was considered a hangover compared to 60s rock. Quite frankly, this was lame.

BORING, not horrible tho, just wish there was something else in it

Suprisingly soulful (didn't realise he wrote Love The One You're With). Probably one of the better American folk albums I've been given from this list so far (all stinkers bar Bridge Over Troubled Waters). The more middle-of-the-road rock elements somehow don't fuse with the soul and gospel influences for me. Not entirely terrible, but there is something insincere and unsubstantial about the whole affair - just really didn't connect with any of it to be honest.

I put this on and it kind of completely passed me by until Cherokee, which is such a fascinating amalgamation of genres - a bit of jazz, folk and psychedelic rock in there. That made me sit up and take notice, but otherwise this is just a bit forgettable

Well, he’s still Stephen. Songwriting isn’t bad, and apparently there are some heavy hitting performers on here but it’s not for me.

Albumbildet va kult, spesielt med den hesten. Sangane va kjedelige

First song giving Fraggle Rock Pretty bland inoffensive stuff for the most part but the guitar solo in Go Back Home was worth a listen

It starts strong with "Love the One You're With, but its not a very good album experience. Some of the last Hendrix recordings are in the album (Old Times Good Times) and afterwards we have Clapton (Go Back Home), but other than that it didnt convince me. 5/10

I don’t need to hear this. The best part is Hendrix solo

Man, 2 or 3 albums into this 1001 albums journey have been made by "American Musician" and they're not bringing their A game. This album felt monotonou.. Most of the songs on here felt like they could be under a file name of RockMusicWithoutEdge.mp3 This sounded like the music that comes default in windows. This sounded like the generic music that plays at the target when you're demoing speakers in their electronics section.

This is a distillation of the Baby Boomer generation blowing smoke up the collective future population's ass. The messaging here is great and all, but how long after this would they shatter all illusions that they believed any of it? Sonically, this is fine. Doesn't rise above its contemporaries, but it doesn't drag on too long, and it's pretty well produced, all told. That Jimi solo is alright but honestly sullied by its inclusion here. Any good goes right out the window by following it up with a Clapton feature. Barf.

I didn’t finish🫢

The music is different than what the cover portrays. It was surprisingly groovy.

goes down like a luke warm sip of water and is about that exciting to hear.

Pretty middle of the road in general. I was expecting more based on the strength of his songs on the CSNY albums, but I found these very forgettable. Some good guitar playing, but the vocals are really unoriginal.

Right off the bat, Mr. Stills gets automatically docked a point for the gross sentiments of "Love the One You're With". ;-) He's certainly a competent songwriter and performer, but most of the tracks on this album don't rise above the ordinary (except for "Do for the Others" and "To a Flame" which show he's at his best when he dials down the rock 'n' faux-gospel bluster).

The most interesting part of this was the album cover

Snooze the snooze you're with

Sometimes decent and other times, slightly worse than that. A little bit of a snoozefest in all honesty. Some pretty okay guitar work. In comparison to Neil Young's 'After The Goldrush' (because apparently all the members of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young all released albums in 1970) which I got a couple of weeks ago, it isn't as good, but it's not quite a single star.

Perfectly pleasant but just not my thing. 2.5/5

This is from a generation that I was happy not to be a part of. I couldn't imagine having to listen to this all the time.

Meh. Not bad, just boring.

Somehow both ponderous and chirpy; who could possibly have patience for this?!

It was just okay. “Love the One Your With” is the only stand out song. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Making an album is an incredibly difficult task, highlighted by Stephen here as he very quickly runs out of ideas for songs after track 2. A lot of filler for a 10 track album!

Bland music for bland people.

There were some okay parts, like Hendrix, not so much Clapton. Lots of choral arrangements that left me cold. No real stand out songs, just a bit of a damp squib overall. I feel 2 stars is a little low, but it's not quite enough for 3.

Not my fav kinda music sorry

Pompous *and* dull

Not my favourite

2.5 stars rounding down on my official review because i want to send a message that WHY the hell would i need to listen to this before i die? this is such a spectacularly mid album. Stills is a great guitarist, and when that gets to shine the songs are good, but the vocals, the inexplicable choir, the songwriting, it’s all just meh to me. not something i needed to listen to.

Slow. Not exciting g

Kind of forgettable to be honest.

not really my kind of music, nothing left an impression on me.

meh i mean, dude's talented, but i've never been able to connect with anything he's done outside of Buffalo Springfield of CSN(Y).

Ziemlich langweilig.

Sounds exactly like the quarter of CSNY that he is. Some pretty finger picking.

Singing and melodies are nice, unsurprisingly. But it’s a lot of that rich white guy blues that hippies popularized. Dentist rock. The music is fine. But listening to the privileged sing the blues is agitating.

Like, it's mid?

Pretty uneventful.

Almost back-to-back with CSNY two days ago. Have had lots of that happening lately, interesting. Must say that this was quite beige and colorless in general. I don't think a single song stuck with me, it passed me by completely even though I appreciate CSN. Not much to say, strong 2.

Not for me at all. I'm not gonna complain if I hear these songs again, but they really didn't make an impact.

First song was good, rest was just so-so.

I really liked the opening track. Happy, uptempo, soulful and catchy. Then the rest happened, and passed me by, without any noteworthy moments. Bland blues and gospel. And what’s up with the cover art?

I mean it's not bad on any technical level but it's boring. Not really a single memorable tune. Cherokee best track by far, but most of these are snoozers. Really not my style.

2624 - The A-Side was pretty good, but after that point is falls off, feels like mostly filler.

The A-Side was pretty good, but after that point is falls off, feels like mostly filler. C

Quite forgettable

A few I’ve heard before. It was ok

Got Manassas recently and really enjoyed it so following that up with this release left me disappointed. Nothing too memorable here and it just left me bored overall. 2 stars

I would love this album if I was an even bigger fork than I am.

nice JoJo reference hahaha (This was alright but a bit too simple and yeehaw for me)

This was good music too have a cheeky little nap to. It has no sudden anything, and just sort of drifted over me. I don't think I'd ever listen again on purpose though.

I’m not sure if it’s his voice I find boring, his songwriting, or his desire to exist.

Expected to hate it, actually didn’t mind it, but didn’t like it

Stills is better in a group with Crosby Nash & Young

Eventuell wiederhole ich mich hier... - entspanntes Album, bei dem mir allerdings nichts besonders im Kopf hängen geblieben ist

This had potential after the first song, but fell off after.

This was a fine album to me. Nothing particularly special about it, and even some catchy folk songs on the record. But nothing that I'm particularly eager to revisit any time soon. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on, but it's not 100% for me. Notable Tracks: - Love the One You're With - don't really agree with the message of the song, but it's a good song - Go Back Home - terrific guitar solo - We Are Not Helpless 4/10

The only album to feature both Clapton and Hendrix, eh? Then why don’t I like it more? Sarcasm aside, this album feels rudderless. There’s talent on display but it’s so unfocused and broad-spectrum that it’s hard to feel a musical theme or direction to the disc. I guess that’s the unfathomable danger of genius - it too quickly becomes unrelatable.

First time I listened to this album. Didn't know that "love the one you're with" was penned by the Stills... then again, I don't know much about the Stills. Enjoyed the album, but I don't believe that I will be listening to it with great frequency.

Ok guitar music, not sure we need this album on the list though, given the other stills projects are covered

I thought I'd enjoy this as a fan of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. However, I found it rather bland and middle-of-the-road.

this guy is way over-represented, probably his third manifestation in this list. LTWYW is annoying, the rest of it nothing to write home about. Competent, listenable to but nothing to prompt a second listen.

Pretty much a “who’s who” of circa 1970 musicians, including Jimi Hendrix. Overall, though, fairly meh.

Liked Song Love the One You're With

Niente di particolare

2.5 stars

Meh Rating: 2.4

Felt like a pretty lightweight album, not very interesting. That said, there was one interesting thing about it, that pink polka-dot giraffe... WTF?! 😂

Simple, harmless folk rock but nothing that hasn’t really been done better by Simon + Garfunkel or similar. 4/10

It's not bad. But definitely not great. Some songs are probably okay, most of them pretty decent but you kinda forget all about them as soon as they are over. So that's the problem. You sure can hear this record before you die, but what's the point if you probably won't remember you ever did?

Love the One You’re With is a popular classic, though lyrically it’s kinda cynical. Rather on theme with the hippie lifestyle though. Singing and melodies are nice, unsurprisingly. But it’s a lot of that rich white guy blues that hippies popularized. Dentist rock. The music is fine. But listening to the privileged sing the blues is agitating.

If this was the first album you ever listened to you’d be forgiven for thinking that the idea of listening to music was somewhat overrated.

Some of the deeper cuts are funkier than I would have expected, some of them are boomerism at its most noxious. Can't see myself revisiting it.

Not very remarkable...

An utter chore of an album to listen to, with music that your dad and grandfather can agree is good, but in a way that isn't a good thing, rather only scares you. It bores me to tears at most points, and is only saved by some good instrumentation and a decent down tempo track at the halfway point, that reeled in me just enough to not despise my time here. I respect if you like this, because you must see something I don't, as all I hear is music that is too safe musically, and often times questionable lyrically.

boring not terrible but no thanks

Ein wenig Gospel, etwas Hippie alla „Hair“ und durch gemixt mit etwas Beatclub und wir haben haben 70er Jahre Mainstream. Nicht schlecht aber nicht besonders.

Not for me

Go back home

* to a flame * Love the one you're with

I liked the first song. Doesn’t sound like rock though

Corny boomer music 2.3

Ei lähtenyt lentoon ja yksikään biisi ei kolahtanut.

Rätt tandlöst varför är det med

Apart from this being the only album to feature Hendrix and Clapton I didnt hear anything special. Commendable that Stills plays all those instruments though. Boston's debut too is just one dude playing the whole thing.

There's no reason this album is in this book. Just because CSN&Y were big, doesn't mean every first solo album by a member of the band should be heard too. Sure, it's not a bad album and is very pleasant. But if I died without hearing this album, my life would be no different musically.

Of the legacy CSNY members, I wish Stills was the one who boycotted Spotify. There are some decent, albeit dated sounding, tunes on this and some excellent guitar work by the special guests that keeps the rating from falling further.

Poor Steve, you know when the members of CSNY all issue solo albums they will all get compared to each other, but good ol' Neil can't but help standing waaay above the others. This was a bit too Country for me, but you say "heck Neil is Country too!" And I agree, but Neil somehow makes Country and Folk work for me. No such luck for Stevie I'm afraid.

I think it’s one of those albums that resonated more in the 70’s and rode the wave of the band’s (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) commercial success. Excellent guitar work by Stephen Stills, as one would expect. Not an album I’d play again. Overall: 3/10

Even Jimi Hendrix can’t elevate this beyond a ‘Meh’. Started off with potential as I recognised and enjoyed the gospel banger Love The One You’re With, but it steadily declined into disappointment from there. I’m really sick of the CSNY axis of boring now.

Another early 70s slogfest. Very competently made album that just happens to bore the hell out of me.

Temu Paul Simon. I'd give 2.5 but can't so I'm afraid it's 2.

Was it fine? I suppose. Will I ever choose to listen to it again? Absolutely not.

I can confirm this album is as boring as Stills' other solo album I received here, as well as the other 2 albums where he's part of the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young gang.

I feel like this was more of an obligatory inclusion due to the other letters of CSNY getting some love too.

Boooring

I wanted to like this but not for me

The album starts off strong with the songwriting and warmth of CSN. But by the second half, the songs seem to become more repetitive and/or aimless musically, and lyrically basic. Overall, it sounds dated without being timeless. Best Song(s): Love the One You're With, Church, To a Flame Listen Again: Probably not

Needs more Crosby. And Stills. And a lot more Young. Track one is a classic, but does the whole album deserve a listen?

Classic Rock done really well. Unfortunately, I don't think that's enough for a list called "1001 Albums To Listen To Before You Die." It should say something utterly unique, like a dissertation, but this album doesn't quite reach that standard. If someone asked me to rate this out of 10 just on how much I like it, I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. However, since it's such a hyperbolic list with only 5 stars to rate with, 2/5.

Proper old boomer bait, this. Reeks of patchouli, fringed jackets and "getting it together, man". Looking past its perfectly competent execution, I can't help but think this kind of earnest, sincere Americana was one of the cul-de-sacs where rock and roll found itself, its initial spark and romance curdling into this comfy, churchy mess. 'Old Times Good Times' is the highlight, inasmuch as it has the pumping bass and organ flourishes of a primo Spencer Davis Group cut. It's also one of about two tracks (the other being the risible 'Cherokee') that have a bit of life about them.

Ehhhhhhhh. I mean, it's not bad but it's not Neil Young. I also liked the last song, but was less ecstatic about the cream in the middle of this particular Oreo. Btw, did you notice how often he used the word "Stills" in his album titles? Wow.

some nice guitar solos in shit songs. boomer message.

great album in general but i dont like the choir type background vocals

A couple of tracks had some life about them, but the rest was dull. And WTF is going on with that album sleeve?

It was ikay

Doesn’t offend

Kommt mit Old Times Good Times sehr zögerlich in die Gänge und versiegt dann auch sofort wieder. Nix dolles.

It's not technically bad, but it is bad. Just twangling and his annoying voice. Really couldn't be bothered with it.

I enjoyed the organ in the Hendrix-backed song Old Times Good Times, the giraffe on the cover, and the fact that I never before noticed the steel drums in Love the One You're with.

couple of good ones

Kinda ass 2

Primal Scream were clearly inspired by some of the gospel-tinged tracks on here, but I was less inspired. It’s technically competent and perfectly listenable - I never wanted to turn it off, but I also never thought ‘yeah, I’ll definitely listen to this track again’. A possibly-slightly-harsh 2.5 stars.

Sounds like a lot of other artists. Meh.

Great guitar skill, but overwhelmed by self-indulgence. There's a reason Love The One You're With is the only real hit off this album.

Nothing wrong with this, but JEEZ these guys have really dominated this list hey. Be close to rivalling the Beatles overall. As I said, nothing wrong with it, but so very bored of the sound. 2/5.

L'album m'ennuie un peu, me semble animé des «meilleures intentions», mais sans voir ses angles morts.

I like the cover because it has that little giraffe thing on it. I love him. Anyway, I didn't think much of this album. It's nice enough, but it was kind of nothing to me. Some interesting pieces here and there, but not enough there to keep me invested. It's not bad, but I can't give it a higher score. I guess my favourite song would be Cherokee, but I struggle to remember what any of the songs sound like.

kult album-bilde, men kjedelig album

Enig i at albumbildet va kult, spesielt med den hesten. Også enig i at sangane va kjedelige

Dit is te saai om de goede woorden voor te vinden.

Ouwe-mannen-rock

I have no use for this album. It's just so... ignoreable. I'd call it background music, but background music is noticeable and possibly interesting. I straight up forgot this was on more than once.

Pretty boring Favorite: We Are Not Helpless

His juvenile ramblings sound even less profound with that undeserved church choir backing him. "Love the one you're with" is a terrible mantra.

Shame Neil Young wasn't around, this album could've used his spark. Only track I really like is 'Love the One You're With,' probably thanks to Crosby & Nash's backing vocals (or just because it's so familiar).

What a load of old ballads. Not really my thing. Could hear the influence of Neil Young (or vice versa) on parts of this. A bit of a mix of moods, if not styles, but not enough to hold my interest for long.

I think is says a lot about my compatibility with an artist when I find myself skipping through a 38 minute album. It’s fine I guess, but not for me… I don’t even feel like being generous and rounding up.

Any combination of the Crosby, Stills, Nash or Young solo or together in any combination = not for me.

I don't like it.

Our first foray into the serene singer/songwriter world of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Of course, you can add “Young” to that, but we’ve created that mountain more times than I would’ve liked. These guys are famed for their smooth daddified rock canon, and I’ll be darned (or de barned) if I’m not curious about the guy with the stuffed giraffe on the album cover. Take it away middle man. Love the One You’re With - Not only are we paddlin’ down the Mississip’ we’re also on board with a Christian youth group. Cast me overboard. Do for the Others - This is an improvement, but we’re still at bible camp. Despite the fact that I’m sure bible camp is a real hoot, surprisingly, I’d rather be anywhere else. Church (Pt. of Someone) - Little girl mentioned. You owe me 50 bucks. This is more horrific church music desperately hoping to be considered soulful. I suppose if it is church music, it would be apropos that he mentioned an underage girl. Old Times Good Times - White boy (house of) blues. The type of music blaring from the speakers in the Ford F250 owned by a married guy who comments “sexy body” on AI instagram model pages. Just listen to blues. It’s way better. Like the basics. Muddy Waters. Lightnin’ Hopkins. Anybody but Whitey McColonizer here. Go Back Home - Can I? Please? I’ve been thoroughly angered by the first few tracks but this is whatever. It’s a fun little jam despite its desperate attempt to be its influences. Sit Yourself Down - Yamaha on the metronome everybody. This is back to stink village. Fire the choir. To a Flame - Just like the moth is drawn to the flame, I too will buzz closer and closer to a great light source in order to die. Black Queen - BOOOOOOOO. I would be hurling rotten produce at this guy as would the other 6 patrons at open mic night. College “poet” learns a barre chord and stood sort of near a protest once. I hate this. Cherokee - This week on Columbo, a white boy incorporates Sitar elements and reggae into a terrible blues song where he fetishizes an indigenous woman. I can’t stress enough how much this sucks. We are Not Helpless - You’re right, I CAN turn this off. I won’t, but I CAN. I have the power. I am in a prison of my own creation. Blow your trumpet, Gabriel. Cleanse my ears in the purifying fires of hell. For they have suffered enough. You know when I start with my medieval hell prose that I’m not ok. I was so excited for this. Well, this group of artists anyway. I expected beautiful folk balladry with impeccable harmonies. What I got was loud, WHITE, “blues” and “gospel” that misses all the emotion of the genres it’s blatantly bastardizing. This is music for idiots. People who wish they were somebody different and who never will be. Keep learning your blues guitar licks. You may get the “how,” but you’ll never ever ever be able to grasp the “why.” Now I’ve got the blues. 0.5-1 HIGHLIGHTS: Go Back Home (Don’t Mind if I Do!)

Music to fellate Jesus to.

Boring.

A warm, rootsy blend of rock and folk, with sappy vocals making this Folk Rock.

Didn't like it enough to listen past the first few songs.

Levytetty levyttämisen vuoksi. Onhan musiikki hänen ammattinsa.

Too lukewarm. Too wimpy. Jackoff music but not in a good way. He has a good voice though and the leadoff is a good song.

Hearing the words Like A Rose In A Fisted Glove the first time permanently damaged my sense of decency and I doubt Stephen Stills's standing could ever recover in my pantheon. For example, I didn't even listen to this. Maybe it's amazing. I'll check it out some day but I need to become a more enlightened soul before I can give this a fair listen.

Nie fajne

I don’t get it

Not for me. 1/5

Nothing offensive or bad about it but pretty directionless feeling for a classic rock album. The production is not bad and the songwriting/playing is okay but it does have the magic that his former groups have. Love the one you're with is a catchy song but you've heard it too much on classic rock radio at this point and most other songs left no lasting impression.

Boring

I couldnt even finish it

I went back and took an edible and this album still couldn’t do it for me.

gar nicht mein Geschmack, hat mir nix gegeben, habs nicht fertig gehört

Yet another album that’s not my style.

Really? I never had to listen to this and I would have been infinitely happier.

1- Stars (1/15)

cheesy. idk if i listened to it all but i listened to enough.

I saw the name Stills and my stomach sank. This is the Stills of Crosby, Stills, and Nash and they are just not my thing. Old white guys love listening to old white guys but I just don't get it.

Doesn’t hold up.

Cherokee was nice, the rest was really boring
