Reviews (page 3 of 7)
Really good. Great noises on here. Feels like a Rob Zombie movie or Session 9.
So there was only one thing that I could do Was ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long
A great example of the industrial genre. I get why many people don't like it, but I quite enjoyed it. It's like a more metal NIN.
The second Industrial Revolution happened in the clubs and on the dance floors to the sounds that Al Jorgensen and Ministry concocted through a mixture of electronic noise and construction site sounds. 4/5
I liked the one where he was going CONNECT THE GOD DAMN DOTS because I was imagining he was running a kids’ summer holiday craft workshop
Y'know, ultimately the first side of the album (the one with "Jesus Built My Hotrod") **is** the better half, but I really liked the second half as well. It's a departure from the "metal psychobilly" thing side one had going for it, but I'unno, I really dug these slow, heavy, epic riffs. It reminded me a lot of Rob Zombie, actually, and that's a big plus for me. I wasn't a fan of the last track, and that's why I'm only giving this 4 stars, but still, I had a blast with this album.
I have a feeling this may be divisive, but I'm definitely in the group that digs this album. Industrial metal may not be for everyone, but I just love this stuff.
3.8/5 listened 2x. pretty cool heavy metal
A genre I have very little interaction with. However, after ingesting this album in bits, I do think it’s kind of awesome.
Weird but cool! Better quality of wailing.
Again, not an industrial or thrash metal fan, but damn is it good when done well. And Ministry does it well. NWO and Just One Fix are a wicked one-two combo to open the album - pulsing, pounding, frantic, rhythmic. It gets a little too abrasive on TV II (screaming for the sake of screaming) but Hero gets it back to a more melodic sound. Jesus Built My Hotrod was fairly witty and still pulsing - kind of reminded me of Primus. The start and end of Psalm 69 were annoying with the church lamentations, but the song in between was pretty kick ass. First half of the album was better than the second half (last two songs a bit too much/heavy) but all in all it was pretty darn good.
Surprise! Enjoyed this one. Not sure if I've ever heard these songs from Ministry before.
Edgy anti-religion metal. Not my fave album from them. 3.5 stars
This is my first Ministry album and tbh I think I'm hooked.
This one surprised me a little. I knew Marianne didn't love it (she's not known for her poker face), and when it started, I was thinking it might veer into silly territory. But it wasn't long before I was clicking with what this is all about, the sheer majesty of BIG sounds and industrial grooves and while it is not the soundtrack for every moment (or every day), I guess it hit me at a good time because I was rolling along with it. 4 is pretty generous, but what the hell, sometimes you gotta crank up the agg.
Yeah, wow, I liked this way more than I thought I would. Many years ago, I bought a DVD; Jackie Chan's greatest hits: nothing but the fight scenes, and unbeknownst to me, those scenes were all set to Ministry. So I couldn't help but laugh when that first song came on. Anyway, I liked this in spite of the fact that it's totally outside my wheelhouse. I dug how hard it hit and their whole noisy aesthetic. Plus, they have a sense of humor, which always goes a long way for me. Will I be checking out their other albums? Maybe not. But then again, maybe I will.
Not pleasant, but real. Some sick tunes in here. I especially liked Scare Crow. Unique atmosphere.
I kinda like it? I might be turning into a metal head…
Very much liked this one, will have to check out the rest of their discography
4.0
It's always nice when I get to review an album I already know and love. I never really understood that I liked industrial music before hearing this album, but it serves as an excellent entry point into the genre. The songs range from the political to the personal, but the music is always distorted and overwhelming and screaming three inches from your face. A very consistent album in terms of its overall sonic quality, but it never gets dull 4/5
Despite all the impressions the word "industrial" conjures, it still remains as among the genre with most interesting sounds, as well as one with most personality. This is my first time listening to actual industrial metal - at least if you don't consider Rammstein and NIN metal - and it freaking slaps. I love the balance of seriousness and sense of humor that only a mix metal and industrial can achieve. I love this little bad boy of a genre.
Have you heard the phrase "no one else can do your own pushups for you"? Well in this case, I selected this album to pair with an upper body strength workout, and it paired well. I achieved extra pushups above and beyond what I would have otherwise, and I'm attributing those extras to Ministry. They've proved the exception to the pushups rule.
Dont know where that came from, but loved it.
Loudest band I have ever heard live. In my opinion the best metal/industrial album ever. Not a huge fan of this type of music but I love this album.
Solid industrial metal. Will return to this. Kinda feels like a heavier variant of some of FZero's tracks.
I listened to this album so many times when I was in my late teens/ early twenties. I am curious how my old guy self would to react to hearing it for the first time now. I don’t blame all those who are just now introduced to Ministry being repulsed or confused by what they’re hearing. Industrial metal is not for the faint of heart. This album is a sonic assault. So heavy, so aggressive, yet at the same time not just a wall of noise hitting you in the face. Not only that, but within that push of sound they built in fantastic pauses to really drive it home. Ministry was one of my favorites back in the day, but I am torn on what rating to give it. On one hand, I want to give it a 5, but at the same time I stopped listening to this years ago when I became a Christian. (Don’t worry, not getting preachy, this is just for background.) I still enjoy it from a musical standpoint, but sometimes it’s hard to separate musicality from message, and it can be difficult to listen to it with a clear conscience. But man, Just One Fix is so well done.
A fine bit of industrial filth which sure fits the bill for a Wednesday. God bless, thanks.
Brilliant speed and rhythms. A little more separation in the mix for lead guitars wouldn’t have harmed, but still a thrill a minute.
Reading the history of Industrial Metal and Rock, Ministry hardly seems like the first to do what they're achieving here, with even popular industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails having released 1989's Pretty Hate Machine — to say nothing of earlier contributions from Neu!, Joy Division, or Iggy Pop, and even artists before them. It's fun to hear the crevices that an influence like Ministry will have crept into, even in more recent releases, things like Factory Floor, Women, and Viet Cong / Preoccupations. Still, have to say I enjoyed this more than expected. There's a lot more room for creativity in expression through repetition than we often realize — and as many house and dance music aficionados could attest.
Really good, but not quite 5 stars good for me. I should probably listen to them more often than I do.
Holy shit, this is so unabashedly stupid and I love it. Doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a breath of fresh air in this genre (looking at NIN in particular), but still lyrically interesting and dark. The vocals sound like they were recorded in a steel shack, the mixing sounds like drowning in sewer sludge, yeah we got a classic on our hands. Strong 4/5. I will definitely be returning to this.
Not my normal music, but still a powerful album. I didn’t listen to the words much, but the production is rad as hell!
Liked this way more than I was expecting. Just assumed it was going to be pretty generic speed metal, but it had a lot more elements and was a lot more interesting. Album rocked.
A bit noisy but I liked it
- this is so sick, wasn't expecting something like this - chaotic but in a good way - like the harsh vocals that aren't to obnoxious
I saw Ministry on this tour at Lollapalooza August 14, 1992 when I was 15. This day was insane as it also included Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Porno for Pyros. I probably was not fully aware of just how significant this lineup was when I jumped into the back of a car with a bunch of friends blasting L7 Bricks are Heavy. Ministry was wild in concert and the played most if not all of these songs. It was right at the edge of my limits for hardcore-- and still is. But, the nice thing about this album is that it has a pretty mainstream guitar track over top of the hardcore drums and more metal guitar. This has the effect of making it far more listenable. It's like Alice in Chains on fleek. I remember owning this CD and only busting it out on close friends. I wasn't meeting a lot of people who had heard it at the time. It's not like it was on the radio and we didn't have the internet.
I was fearful upon hearing the growling vocals. Uh oh another one star [blank] core album. But then The guitar riffs got my head banging. These guys are like Metallica (Ride or Master) level shredding. And some how the growling ceased to annoy me because it actually kind of fits the music. The album title has 4 “*” in it and that is also how I rate it.
Better than I remember. There are some low quality recorded sounds mixed in with some of the more cleanly recorded stuff, which surprised me. I tend to prefer White Zombie's La Sexorcisto for something with a ton of samples released at around the same time, but this was a really enjoyable listen.
Oh yeah fun, heavy and dark industrial metal. There’s always a time and place for it.
Good
First of all, I just want to say that this album has one of the worst names for an album that I've ever heard. This genuinely gives off the same energy as that one Limp Bizkit album that I am sadly going to have to listen to later in the list. With that being said, I actually kind of really liked this album. This thing is freaking weird and I love it. The sound is unexpectedly thrashy in comparison to what I would expect from industrial metal, although that could just be because my main source of industrial metal was in The Downward Spiral, an album that I listened to earlier for the project. Honestly, I liked the sound of this album quite a bit. The vocals had a similar effect to those on The Downward Spiral, but they do still stand out a bit in comparison. The writing is kind of all over the place a bit. Also, hearing this album say the phrase "Jerry Lee Lewis is the devil" after listening to a Jerry Lee Lewis album for this project LITERALLY YESTERDAY was actually hilarious and I can't believe that that happened. It's true though. That guy sucked, unlike this album. The song that that lyric comes from, "Jesus Built My Hotrod", might be the highlight of this album for me. Finally, I do have one other complaint. Some of the songs, and to a lesser extent the album as a whole, did drag a bit. It could've been a bit shorter. Overall, this is a very weird industrial metal album that enjoyed listening to. Light 4/5.
#102 pretty classic industrial metal album, and probably Ministry's best 4/5:
A monster in the industrial metal scene. Influencing almost every metal album that followed. Gets a bit repetitive but every track at one point just assaults the ear. A must listen for any metalhead. 8/10
Pretty solid heavy stuff
Love it!
Heavy as a ton of bricks and with a sound that makes industrial sound doomed. I loved every minute of this sludgy kick ass piece of 90s rock. There’s something to this that leaves a mark long after it’s gone.
Finally some Christian rock! Loved the uplifting gospel message, Jesus rocking drums, and lord-praising vocals. Can’t wait to show everyone at Book Club this gem of an album!
Enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would. Not the biggest fan of this type of metal but it somehow worked on me. 3.5/5
Sonically, this is right up my street and very interesting to listen to. Didn't love the vocals as much but I think they might grow on me.
This is not my favorite Ministry record, but it's the more popular and arguably better one. Psalm 69 as I've always called it, starts off strong with N.W.O and Just One Fix, and while maybe it takes a dip in energy and quality it has the crowd pleaser Jesus Built My Hotrod right at the center of the record. They manage to hold on to some of that momentum with but my attention starts to wane at a certain point. Psalm 69 integrates its influences more successfully than its predecessors (even if I'll always be prefer The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste). In short, while it might be a five star Ministry record, it is neither my favorite nor a five star album among all other albums.
Much more listenable than their 1989 release, and it has Jesus built my hotrod
Truly Heavy Metal. A little hard for me but undeniably cool.
Pretty freakin' cool. I don't think I've ever really sat and listened to a proper industrial metal album. This was a pretty mind bending roller coaster ride and I wasn't dissapointed.
Possibly the best industrial album. I of course thought it was sort of a rebel album, but now that I read Al Jourgensen was pushing the NWOs death jab, I realize that it was a promotion album for the NWO - perhaps even sort of a ritual to bring it into affect, since this title comes from the works of Aleister Crowley. I mean, satanism is so cool, right? Regardless, it's still a good listen.
I remember listening to this album shortly after it came out. There wasn't anything else like it
Classic industrial metal album. Love the tempo of these songs, great for working out.
alright I guess "industrial metal" works as a genre descriptor, but that undersells how loopy the sample loops get. like listening to a youtube poop
ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ," commonly known as "Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs," is the fifth studio album by the American industrial metal band Ministry. Released in 1992, the album is often considered a seminal work in the industrial and metal genres and is recognized for its aggressive, politically charged sound. Musical Style and Innovation: "ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ" marked a significant departure from Ministry's earlier synth-pop sound. The album is characterized by a heavy, aggressive blend of industrial, metal, and punk influences. It features distorted guitars, pounding drum machines, samples, and Al Jourgensen's distinctive vocals. This fusion of genres was groundbreaking and influential, setting the stage for the industrial metal movement. Lyricism and Themes: The album's lyrics are dark, confrontational, and often politically charged. Al Jourgensen's lyrics touch on topics like government corruption, censorship, drug addiction, and personal struggles. The song "N.W.O." (New World Order) is a standout track, addressing political and social issues. Production and Sound: The album's production is gritty and raw, giving it an industrial edge. It is known for its chaotic, distorted, and relentless sound. The use of samples and electronic elements adds layers of complexity to the music. Memorable Tracks: Several tracks on the album have become classics in the industrial metal genre. "N.W.O.," "Just One Fix," "Jesus Built My Hotrod," and the title track "Psalm 69" stand out for their intense energy and unforgettable hooks. Impact and Influence: "ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ" had a significant impact on the industrial and metal scenes. Ministry's aggressive sound and political themes influenced many bands in the 1990s and beyond. The album's success also helped push industrial music into the mainstream. Controversy: The album's confrontational lyrics and imagery drew controversy, particularly from conservative groups who saw it as offensive. This added to its notoriety and helped it gain more attention. Critical Reception: "ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ" received critical acclaim upon its release. Critics praised its innovation, intensity, and the fearless approach to tackling social and political issues. It has remained a critical favorite over the years. Cultural Significance: The album's influence extends beyond the music scene. It's been used in films, TV shows, and video games, further solidifying its place in popular culture. Legacy: "ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ" is considered one of Ministry's most iconic works. It remains a key reference point for the industrial metal genre, and it continues to be celebrated by fans and artists alike. In conclusion, "ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ" by Ministry is a landmark album that pushed the boundaries of industrial and metal music. Its aggressive sound, politically charged lyrics, and influence on subsequent artists make it a classic in the genre. Whether you're a fan of industrial music or simply appreciate the merging of raw aggression with social commentary, this album is a must-listen.
Solid
In spite of myself I really enjoyed this. It's somewhere between NIN (which I love and think is art) and Slipknot (which is awful and like a bad parody). Like sometimes this album goes hard and is awesome, and sometimes it pushes up (or even goes past) that very fine line between awesome and lame. But overall it's a good time, and I would wager a guess that these guys don't take themselves too seriously.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this album but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I like industrial metal and this had a bit of a thrash edge which I really enjoyed. The lyrics seemed absurdist which was fun; it seemed that Ministry weren’t over-earnest which I think is a good thing.
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: NWO, Jesus built my hotrod, Corrosion
Oh this one is a yes yes yes, love it! i've always had a bit of an interest in industrial rock, so when i listened to this i immediately recognized! would add this to my everyday playlist!
Great album, but hard to listen to in 1 shot. FULL ON!
I like a good old heavy metal racket, and this delivers on that front. Knowingly self aware too, which only serves to up the appeal. 'Hero' and 'Jesus Built My Hot Rod' (great song title) are the standouts for me.
So, let me tell you about my relationship to this era Ministry. I loved this band in high school. Ministry, NIN, Godflesh, Skinny Puppy - I'm all in. I had the three disc box set from Wax Trax. I had a keyboard that could do drum sounds and would run it through distortion pedals. It was a good time in my life. I also had a "Jesus Built My Hot Rod" t-shirt which had a big ol' engine of some kind or another on the front of it. And one day in the pizza line the dude behind me said, "Hey, if you're into racing you should come out to the speedway in South Caldwell on Friday nights." I wasn't about to go. (I probably should have.) That shirt confused the shit out of everybody and I absolutely loved that. I also saw Ministry at Lollapalooza 92, and despite Pearl Jam and Soundgarden being on the bill in their absolute primes... 1992 me probably would've told you Ministry was the best band there. They tore shit up and nobody else on that bill sounded remotely like them. BUT... t-shirts and concerts aside, I also just really, genuinely liked the music and this album still holds up for me. It does what it does and doesn't make any bones about it. The guy lost me when he started getting political in his music a way that had absolutely zero nuance about it, but that didn't come until later. I have way more appreciation now for the first two records, but their transition to a metal band was made for nerds like me. I still love "Scarecrow," and "Just One Fix." They're grimier songs than what Trent Reznor or (uggh) Rob Zombie was doing, and then of course the album doesn't just stay in the sewer. "Hotrod" is a fun song! "TV II" is fun. "N.W.O." is a great opener and tone-setter. And none of you are probably even reading this, but damnit now it's on the record.
Liked how this was a metal album that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it isn’t an absolute joke, either. ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod’ is fun. Ok I’m drawing a blank on what to say again.
Rock on.
YES. I listened to this album a lot in the 90s and I think it stands up. Admittedly the production is a little 80s in places, and some tracks are a little loop-centric, but when it hits, it hits. Almost the whole album works brilliantly. In terms of aggressive industrial metal, Just One Fix, NWO, Jesus built my hotrod and TV II are absolutely standards. The only thing keeping it from a 5 is the fact that the impact is lessened by the mixdown, and that some of the later tracks are relatively weaker. Would love to hear this properly remastered.
Thinking too hard about this one risks identifying those most-obvious elements and their worst expressions. Full frontal, I could say.
One of ministry's better albums. So many good songs on this brings me back to a day long ago.
Feu, rage et récolte, répétition de motifs entêtants
Great album. Very strong start, fades a little from there but still good tracks
I had no idea what this was going to be and was pleasantly surprised. Loud, fast and fuck you but not so shouty as to be annoying. i will be looking out more of their stuff for sure.
Nice. Hard stuff
Sonzao, pesado metal industrial, mas afude oa riffzao
Bopping through most of the album
I never was too big on industrial music. I just can’t get into Nine Inch Nails. But this, this was something else. I really dug this and plan on listening more of them. Great discovery! 8,5 out of 10
Love industrial metal from time to time. This album is pretty influential to the point that Du Hast sounds very similar to Just One Fix. I prefer my industrial metal with more chunky groove and less of that harsh vocal though.
Metal industrial. Te despierta. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
Good
Super intense and spiked with creative outbursts to the Süds within this brutalist industrial outfit. Favorite: Scarecrow ! 3.5
I remember that in the 80s I thought there would be a market (at least in our record collection) for music that mixed heavy guitars, electronic beats and voice samples, but stuff like Ministry, Front 242, Skinny Puppy & The Revolting Cocks was too abrasive to listen to in anything but the smallest doses. 30 years later, go figure, my perspective seems to have changed. I like the voice sampling in the opening track, the manic guitar and psychotic screaming on TV II, the speed metal of Hero and Jesus Built my Hot-rod and the gothic grandeur of the title track, Psalm 69, though the goofy spoken word segments at the intro almost ruin it. Normally I hate metal and industrial rock, but I like the mood and melody under all this mess. I can see myself listening to this on a bicycle trainer on a gloomy winter day.
Great Industrial metal album! I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this album and it has its own sound that is unique to it from the bands other songs and just when it comes to metal in general. It really has that 90's sound to it and this falls above albums like Closer for me.
Off-beat metal
Reading this horrendous/amazing album title, I had high expectations of the weirdness of the record. It lived up to the name - what a ride! Don't think I'll ever put it on again though, especially not if I'm around other people.
Al Jourgensen, you terrifically weird man. Everything about this is pure chaos and insanity; from the bonkers album title to the production and general songwriting. This feels utterly inhuman. And, somehow, we’re all better for it. I still don’t get how Bill Rieflin went from drumming on this to semi-joining R.E.M. in 2003. What a career move!
Gloriously silly. Jesus built my hotrod the most fun think I've listened to in ages. Loved it! Some songs too samey for five but may be unfair as suspect in this genre that's part of the point.
A treasure of psychobilly.
This was another band I had never heard of. I listened through to it twice today. I liked it! I didn't like when the band was actually singing (too growly), but I really liked the music and when they would have looped audio of people saying particular phrases. Looking at the lyrics, they are pretty intense and full of commentary. We Live In A Society. It really is like speed metal, industrial, and psychobilly, just like the album description on this site said. It's fast and frenetic, good for working or running, probably. I think my faves are "N.W.O" and "Hero," but I can honestly say at this point in my familiarity with this album, a lot of the songs sounded similar.
i didnt expect to like a trashmetal album, jesus built my hotrod is amazing and the other songs are also more creative than i expected
This records gets me really fired up. It gives me as much of an adrenaline thrill as it did when it first came out. I love the industrial repetitiveness, the crunchy guitars, metronomic beats, angry yelling, all undercut with sarcasm and humour (most notably on Jesus Built My Hotrod). It takes me back to the early 90s, when this was on constant rotation in my share house, and was a key inspiration for my own industrial band. I love this record. It's the best industrial metal album of all time (with the possible exception of the 1990 live Ministry album). There's not really any _songs_ on this album; it is just one monstrous beat with slight variations on the same one-chord speed metal riff played across the whole album sprinkled with distorted yelling and the occasional sample. By the end of the album, they have even run out of yelling. It is a simple and repetitive idea, but it sure gets the blood pumping. I saw them touring this album at Selinas in January 1995, and they were tight and heavy and just what you'd expect them to be like. Awesome! Does everyone need to hear and love this album? No, they don't. It doesn't contain much to say about the human condition (except for the thrilling power of anger). The years have not been kind to Al Jourgensen and his crew of industrial outlaws; the hard living (especially hard drug use) has killed or enfeebled most of them. Uncle Al himself is a bit of a joke these days, and time has rendered the rebellious posturing of Ministry to be a bit of a Pyrrhic victory. I'm not sure it has all dated well At least this album isn't as bad, mostly, as the unfortunately titled "Land of Rape and Honey" album from 1988. But I love it. It gets me fired up.
Not bad; I enjoyed the title track. Has hints of Rammstein and Marilyn Manson - Perhaps they were inspired by Ministry?
Well, that was fun!
N.W.O and Jesus Built My Hotrod are both bangers
Beats ass. Never thought I would be into industrial but this very enjoyable throughout.
I've heard this album so many times. It's definitely a favourite from times gone but. Holds up for sure. Gonna slide a few long neglected favourites into my playlists.
Loud and angry, sampleicious metal. Lots of fun but more so live, I think. Some of the tracks go on a bit. Jesus Built My Hotrod a highlight.
spooky vibe, wel cool album!
3.5.... but in this case Jesus might not have built MY hotrod, but it definitely pushed this up to a 4.
Wack
It was weird and fun, and kind of enjoyable.
Really chaotic energy here that feels like a reflection of the frontman. Listening again all of the tracks were distinct/memorable (other than the last two instrumental songs) and could be picked out as a good representation of the genre. Favorite: Jesus Built My Hotrod
Never heard of this band, or given the time of day to this genre but what an introduction. Will certainly listen again soon.
Необычный альбом. В нём что-то есть. Мне нравятся экспериментальные композиции.
It's early industrial metal, you can really tell where NIN/Linkin Park/etc got their inspiration from. It's gritty, punchy, hits hard and I loved it. It's only not getting a 5 because there are some duff tracks, but a highlight was Jesus built my hotrod.
Hard driving, dark and grimy. Really effective use of loops, static, noise. Did I mention this freaking rocks? Brilliant. Fave Songs: N.W.O., Jesus Built My Hotrod, Hero, Scarecrow, Just One Fix
Aggressive. Sounds like video game music. Very danceable grooves. Must have been a genre-defining album upon its release.
this album is so heavy it hurts love ministry this is their best one
Much better than I expected,
This is not my usual music, though a dear friend of mine believes 'Jesus Built My Hotrod' is the high watermark of western music. I liked it a lot more than I expected. The motorik rhythms coupled with nihilistic lyrics and crunching guitars works for me!
Idk, enjoy ministry more than I should probably. Guilty pleasure maybe.
ding a ding dang my dang along ling long! Funny, what I considered grating noise and shouty with Mudhoney did not apply to this. Enjoyed this! It may have helped that I was driving at the time so it made the drive more fun.
Ding a ling dang my ding a long ling long. 4
Firstly, to explain the title: it stems from an Aleister Crowley poem about 69ing, and let's be honest, is of no great profundity. The band were often just dicking about, and with that stance of dicking about is how best to approach this album. Ministry are usually classed as industrial metal (leaning more towards metal), two terms which scare off plenty of the weaker-bowelled. That said, they also bore off plenty who find both industrial and metal infantile and predictable. As for me, this album represents one of the better combinations of both, where the industrial harshness actually boosts the fun of metal. Specifically, this album is at its best when it reminds one of Motörhead, when it embraces the hard, fast, rough, loose rock n roll Lemmy championed. Occasionally the album gets ponderous, when they forget they're meant to be fribbling about and instead try to play as if the indecipherable lyrics meant something. But none of those instances really taint the album, and the discerning listener should cheerily ignore those parts. It will not at all persuade anyone ill-disposed to metal, but that's no reason for anyone to get upset.
My favorite Ministry album, very solid with hits.
Man, it's been a long time since I've heard these guys. Damn they shred. Good shit.
never listened to this. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Highlights: Just One Fix Corrosion Scare Crow (I knew this one from Inter Arma cover) 4/5
Mechanical and dirty. Just One Fix is sick and pulls off having the same riff for 5 minutes by having loads of interesting effects all over the place. Jesus Built My Hotrod is one of the only Ministry songs I really knew beforehand but is such an off-the-wall banger. Scare Crow is a nice atmospheric change of pace. The sampling overall is fittingly dark. Some very strange production choices (not in a bad way). Highly enjoyable to me.
F**k yeah! Jesus built my hot rod, ding a ling ling!
It's the best industrial metal album of all time (with the possible exception of the live Ministry album that came out around the same time). Does everyone need to hear and love this album? No, they don't. it doesn't contain much to say about the human condition (except for the thrilling power of anger). But I love it. It gets me fired up.
Metal. I enjoyed the album.
Wow, some angry shit
This was pretty cool. Definitely not my kind of music but can't deny it was impressive.
So much nostalgia with this album. This was the album that opened up industrial metal to my listening. But, I never returned to it much. That's probably going to change now.
I've always been aware of Ministry as they have often been cited as influences for bands I really like today- Volbeat being one. And you can hear the rockabilly thing that Volbeat have taken to the next level. Enjoyed it immensely
Heavy, industrial, catchy, fun. A surprisingly accessible album (up to the last few tracks), given the genre. BIG and EPIC. I liked it a lot. 4/5.
I was not in the mood for industrial metal when this popped up on my list. However... this was really good.
4 definitely. A pioneer of industrial and a great album. TV II is a bit grating but the rest is so good.
Man, this just gets my blood pumping. Good ol' thrash metal from the early '90s. If it's not your thing, I get it, but this is workout or writing music for sure.
Hardcore album, loud fast drums and guitars. Angry music. I saw on the wiki it called Ministry an Industrial band but this definitely didn't seem Industrial as it was just a traditional guitar/bass/drums setup. More Metal I would say, but without the solos and just the hard/fast energy all the way through the songs. Seem to have some different influences. The opening to Hero sounded a lot like Megadeth Jesus Built my Hotrod had some Primus vibes Scarecrow sounds like a Rob Zombie tune Not for everyone but I liked it well enough.
I loved the instrumentation, especially the guitars. The songwriting was pretty good. Together they'd be good enough for 5 stars from me. Unfortunately, I really don't like the vocalist's voice though. The rest of the music is still excellent enough for 4 stars though. I do have to say the album seemed a bit long to me, even though it wasn't so long. Probably due to its high intensity.
So fucking good. SO good.
4.5 Love this ablum - haven't listened to it in a long time
Could not tell if it was a bit
Kinda cheesy and silly but life’s too short to not enjoy a little cheesy and silly metal
Relentless album. I didn't fuuuully mesh with the music outside of a few songs, but it's very listenable nonetheless. As a side note, a brief dig into their early discog is a hell of a shock. These guys were doing straight synthpop on their debut album; not a trace of what they would end up doing here. Standouts: Hero • Scare Crow • Corrosion
Going to land around a 3.5 and thus rounding down to a 3. I never listen to this type of music so I greatly appreciate this album for hooking me. Scare Crow is a great song I will absolutely return to, but I don't see this album entering my regular rotation.
Total chaos. Screams of fallen angels or some shit.
This album tries so hard to be edgy but is not very good at it at all. Especially the day after listening to Metallica, the difference between earnest (maybe a bit overserious) metal and edgelord metal is extremely clear.
This was...intense. It's been a while since I heard something like this. If you like industrial metal then this is definitely an album for you. I found myself digging quite a lot of the outrageousness shown here. Some tracks stood out more than others, such as Jesus Built My Hotrod.
Good
Never heard of this so should be a interesting listen, a good sounding metal album, I'll be definitely relistening to this a few times
there are ways to make repetitive music interesting and this doesn't use many of them. some of the texture is pretty good at least.
Metal like this does nothing for me. It did not sound bad, per se, but not music I would seek out.
I think this is the first time I've heard Ministry. I liked this quite a bit more than I was expecting. It worked well as background music to keep me pumped and focused.
Not my thing but can appreciate it
Have to give ministry some credit. Feels like one of the innovators of industrial metal. I recall being at a party in high school and the video for Jesus built my horror came on and I was like who are these guys and the alt new wave girls were telling me about them. Some good on here and some bad. Rounding down three stars
Not my jam. Not bad but not my jam. Musically orherwise ok, don’t dig this stule of vocals
Pretty good but not great. I enjoyed it but not enough to throw on my metal playlist.
I had never listen to any Ministry. It seems boring at first but I could feel the appeal at the end. Yet my favourite is Jesus Built my Hotrod whic h sung by the Buthole Surfers singer and is much diffferent musically as well.
original industrial dudes getting afyer it 3/5
Rather enjoyable for a metal album
I preferred the parts where it leans into more experimental/industrial than thrash metal. The track Corrosion sounded like they’d found a new weird sound. The thrash riffs/religious parody tracks get a bit formulaic after a while. Scare Crow sounds like How Soon is Now by the Smiths (in good way?)
Why did this kinda ate down style-wise? I didn't love the actual album, but i could listen to Ministry, maybe?
With an album name like “ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ: AKA Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs”, you can probably guess that you’re going to likely be in for something different with this one. Different can either be very good, or very bad depending on the context. The difference in this case that makes the album really stand out is the amount of screaming the lead singer does. Sure, I’ve listened to several Metal albums before during the course of this project, but this is the heaviest one of them so far. This is probably going to be the closest the project comes to something like Death Metal. Is that a bad thing or a good thing then, that I was able to tolerate it? I don't know. Generally, I don't really touch stuff like this all that often, I find a lot of screamo-adjacent albums pretty off-putting, but found this album to be surprisingly enjoyable, so I'm not complaining. It didn't blow me away, but it was still good enough to listen to on repeat today. To all of that I say, yeah, this album was alright. The singer is bearable, but the fast pace of the drummer and killer guitar riffs are the main appeal. They’ve got a religious theme too, obviously, that makes some songs hilarious, and I think the comedic element was the intent, but I’m not entirely sure whether or not it’s supposed to be funny. No, scratch that, listening to the lyrics of “Jesus Build My Hotrod” or “Psalm 69” will very quickly let you know that these guys are just taking the piss. For the comedy aspect alone, as well as having a great guitar section, “Jesus Build My Hotrod” is my favorite song on the album. This was a weird one, and I can see why it’s got such a low rating on the site, but I’m just glad to have listened to something this different today. This was a refreshing album, a nice break from the hundreds of generic English Rock/Pop albums the author is so fond of.
My only previous encounters with Ministry-related music was via LARD, and this album is not that different, just featuring a less-whiny vocal than Jello's. For me, it's definitely a Mood Album...there are some days I'm in the mood for some industrial rock pulverising music (and ...Hotrod.. wll scratch that itch, but most of the time, ... Nah.
Pretty good, classic example of its genre etc, but not super my thing. A bit loud and repetitive and edgy for the sake of being edgy for my tastes.
Я несколько раз пытался полюбить Ministry, но так и не получилось. Музыка местами ничего, но вокал из хрипящего динамика всё портит.
Such an influemtial album. White Zombie and others copied this and made it more for the radio, but Al created this genre. This is not my favorite genre or sub genre but its still a great album.
Interesting introduction to industrial metal. I can really dig the focus on the drums and base riffs without putting a flashy guitar solo in every song. It leaves ample room in the song for the audience to chant hail satan. Would appreciate clearer vocals but you can't have everything I guess.
3.5/5
Not bad but doesn’t make a list of “Must play again”
It's an interesting sound that I liked but it's maybe missing a bit for me to really think it's great, maybe it's a bit too slow and doesn't quite have the energy I like. There's quite a bit of cool stuff in there, but I don't think I'll return to the album in the future and I'm worried that I'll end up forgetting it a bit in general Standouts Psalm 69 Corrosion 3/5
Industrial metal good but idk about the vibes it was makin me anxious
A lil repetitive for my liking on some songs but overall pretty solid
Not really my bag, there's a good number of songs here that simply overstay their welcome, which spoils the occasionally interesting crunchy industrial stomping metal over punchy beats. There's elements of the Prodigy but without their discipline, White Zombie but without the loose flamboyance, and early-nineties metal fuzz but without the coherent songwriting of the bands who best represented such tones. Perhaps at it's best when it sounds like the demons are escaping out through the factory floor, but even then it all feels kinda directionless and chaotic.
The guitar and drums are killer, the vocals are all filler. This album/band set the ground work for bands that in my opinion took this genre to the next level( rammstien, rob zombie etc.).
Interesting
American wankers. Tossers.
Not bad, considering I'm not really a fan of their industrial-ish heavy metal-ish sound.
3/5. Fine enough industrial metal album. Though there’s many from this era that I much prefer. It’s at its best on the harder hitting tracks like “Jesus Built my Hotrod.” Lyrically there seems to be themes about religion and politics but it never really goes into enough depth to where it feels particularly interesting or insightful. But there’s still some good riffs and individual songs on here so it wasn’t a bad time all around.
Like this a lot. A bit thrash at times, a bit choking victim/leftover crack, MM, Rob Zombie. All served up with a frantic non stop energy. I guess they were pretty influenceial. Not something I'll listen to a lot, but a great addition from the book.
Surprisingly okn3
Loud!
Tough one, but I made it through without wanting to abort, despite the fact I had to stop half way through. Kind of a fun record.
I like metal. But this is some mid metal.
Mental, frankly. Still, I sort of enjoyed it
loud and intense
Nice to finally check out Ministry for the first time
Psalm 69 & Jesus Built My Hotrod are awesome. The rest don’t agree with me
It's alright, some good stuff but I can't see myself coming back to it
Seems like a great album. I didn’t love it but did like it.
I don’t mind industrial, but thrash metal was never my thing. Also, not a huge fan of his vocals. Did some creative stuff though
Ministry makes sense to have on the list and this is the album to pick. It's heavy and raw and aggressive and makes a lot of sense for an attitude or time. I can't fault it for what it's doing. Jesus Built My Hotrod works in a way it really shouldn't. Makes sense to be on the list.
Opens really strong with NWO, but doesn't keep it up. I don't remember listening to anything else like this so far. I don't know a lot about this genre of music. Fun enough album, just not a lot of standout tracks.
This record slays. Really great music composition and vocals that complement. The mood and energy sounds great and kept my attention throughout. This was a really fun one.
Good album! Not much that i wanna say bcuz its a bit experimental but its good.
Spoke to a coworker who said this album was innovative at the time so I went into this with that thought. While I was kind of like “eh what’s the big deal” it was very important for the industrial scene. It did not really age well, but there were a couple songs that had me bopping.
Relentless - rumbling bass, slicing guitars, demented vocals/samples and surprisingly tight songwriting Favoueite tracks: NWO, Jesus Built My Hotrod, Just One Fix
Interesting industrial rock. Not an easy listen nor something I want to hear all the time, but it’s a good companion for a strength workout in the gym.
Musically interesting and immediately engaging…this is my stuff and I love it. Vocally and lyrically though - is this parody? It tries too hard from scary, devil, this is dark perspective…like what someone from the south might dream up as devil music for the lost and wayward and poorly informed kids trying so hard to be different. The formula shows and it’s distracting and annoying. IMO Cardi B’s WAP does more to commoditize love and destroy civility and morality than chanting “I feel like my heart has been touched by Christ” over a hard driving industrial track. Trent Reznor displays some much more credibility in this regard. This wants to challenge convention and be scary…he really does/is. In the end I suppose Al J and team know their market. Disaffected 15 year olds quickly becoming disaffected 45 year olds will gobble this up to show their parents and everyone around just how “lost” they are. Maybe I shouldn’t review an album like this after binging after Season 1 of Righteous Gemstones (specifically Keefe storyline). 5 for music. 1 for everything else. 3/5
Some good riffs, but very repetitive. All the sampling is pretty cringe too.
Really enjoyed the album. Has almost exactly what I look for in music. I think Hero is my favourite.
Pretty generic Indie music, not bad, just boring
What a mental whiplash i got from this. My neck hurts. On one hand its wildly creative. Who thinks to add digital production to metal music in the early 90s? Tons of good computer manipulation in every corner. The metal parts are all pretty cool. But then its as childish as can be. Psalm 69... it could be funny if it wasn't set up like a 14 year olds gotcha. If it was just having fun with being dumb I could get behind it. But its deadly serious. Thats what I see. Something about sucking off the holy ghost and swallowing the lord or some shit. I guess its trying to be funny but damn does it fall flat. Its all subjective sure. But I cant get behind it. And the vocals can be OK or they can be grating and awful. More bad than good for sure. Its something I liked when I was 13 but im more than double that age now and cant get behind this anymore. I still love dumb bullshit but not every peice of dumb bullshit. But again its doing cool things. And Jesus built my hotrod its legit good. Might be the only one but its good. In both camps where this is genius and its from the depths of hell at the same time. Evens out I guess
Bäst är Just one fix, Jesus built my hotrod och Scare crow. Det blir en 3a.
Started off strong; got repetitive pretty quickly. As a thrash metal fan, I was left disappointed. The edgy Bible references didn’t help either.
When I worked in the Sporting Goods department at Kmart in the early ’90s, we had a guy who’d roll in a few times a year just to assemble bikes. He’d set up shop upstairs above the warehouse, surrounded by chrome frames, aluminum handlebars, rubber tires, and loose spokes scattered like metallic confetti. As he tightened bolts and tuned chains, he’d crank his radio just as hard—blasting Industrial music that echoed through the rafters. Listening to Psalm 69 by Ministry dropped me straight back into 1993, standing under those fluorescent lights, wondering what in the hell that bike-assembly guy was listening to. This is Ministry’s brand of Industrial Metal in full force—mechanical, abrasive, relentless—but it’s never quite been my sweet spot. It doesn’t hit with the crushing weight I look for in Metal, and it doesn’t fully scratch the colder, more atmospheric Industrial itch either (Nine Inch Nails comes to mind as the benchmark for me). That said, I didn’t hate the record. It kicks off with its strongest punch in “N.W.O.,” which still rips, and there are solid moments scattered throughout—“Scare Crow” and "Corrosion" among them. Some tracks lock into that grinding groove better than others, but overall it feels like an album I respect more than I truly enjoy.
the way to succeed and the way to suck eggs jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long recently dated a guy that was hella religious and i feel like this album would make him really uncomfy hahahah i think it's interesting and kinda fun we aren't dating anymore favorite song: just one fix
Not my cup of tea, but some tracks are enjoyable.
Meaty. It's been a long time since hearing this, and I remember it being heavier. That aside, I felt it was a bit repetative but still a solid album.
For when you're in the mood for fury.
OK
Very interesting. Great guitar.
Not a massive fan of metal so I was a bit unsure of this going in, but I actually came out of this quite liking it! Scarecrow standout track for me.
This was the perfect soundtrack for trying to organize my screenplay. It's really random, there's WAY too much going on, and at times it's honestly so bad that it's good. Let me repeat: it's not quality music, and that's okay.
5/10
2.75
3.5
I liked this more than I expected to, which I feel like is always my reaction to industrial metal albums.
Meni je ovo simpatičnije u teoriji nego praksi. Vrlo je demode
Al’s full time band is a hoot as he adapted his synth pop leanings into a more politico-industrial powerhouse in the early 90’s. Highly creative, for me this is where American rock finally found a crossover band that the masses could love as it was just clever enough, just subversive enough, and with enough repetition that you could get the message being conveyed. It is certainly not subtle. Al’s vocals had improved to the point where they matched the sound coming out of his look and the band’s meticulous layered experiments. Jesus Stole My Hot Rod is the clear favorite but a little time with the record reveals other tales of interest. Opener, N.W.O. Although a little lengthy was a terrific opening track as it transports you directly into the world Al is trying to create. Following it with Just One Fix probably saved the record, as the two lengthy tracks - Scare Crow and Psalm 69 buried near the end of the record are a little exhausting back to back. This is in no way meant to diminish the tracks but their extended length is a bit difficult to carry the back end of the record particularly where Scare Crow builds so slowly to its pretty amazing ending. Psalm 69, in my humble opinion should have closed the record and the last 2 tracks - Corrosion and Grace saved for B-Sides. Awkward end to a pretty solid record. I get drugs played a huge role in this record but I think the inter-band tensions probably played a bigger role resulting in some unevenness in this record. Still very good, but ultimately not great. 3/5
Industrial music starting point. Not bad just not my cup of tea
Ministry is essentially a one-man band, led by Al Jourgensen. A fascinating man, he released his debut album, riding the wave of new wave and synth-pop popularity, but quickly realized he wasn't interested in this sugar-coated thing, changed labels amidst a scandal, and started doing something of his own. This album is the quintessence of "his own," more energetic and angry. Ministry may not have invented industrial, but I'm sure Trent Reznor, Rob Zombie, and Rammstein, who clearly ripped off the riff for "Du Hast" from the second track, have all heard this album many times. A good, rollercoaster-like release for fans of heavier music. If not for the somewhat monotonous and mediocre ending (two songs), it would easily have earned another star.
What's that mean? Anyway Resources Hebrew/Greek Your Content Psalm 69 New International Version Psalm 69[a] For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. 6 Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. 8 I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children; 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. 13 But I pray to you, Lord, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. 16 Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. 18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes. 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and[b] a trap. 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me. 30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. 31 This will please the Lord more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. 32 The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live! 33 The Lord hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
Psalm 69? More like Psalm 67. The repetition is cool and just one of those albums you savor the grinding rhythm.
Ow, my frickin ears
Not really my bag, but I can appreciate the craft!
mh
Decent 3,5
Fast tempo, aggressive guitar, scary vocals…hail satin, it’s a lovely textile
I had an industrial metal phase, I loved the crunchiness of it, the relentlessness, the power. That’s all evident in this, it’s not a pleasurable listen but it has value. The album is at its best when it slows things down and just holds a groove and wrongs life out of it. One track but it’s a good track
Standout Songs: Just One Fix Hero Psalm 69
Ozzy on helium. It’s not my vibe and it’s unrelenting on the ears, but it's got rock and roll energy and swing.
Eh liked a few songs but there are far better things in this genre
Not bad, though not really my kind of metal. Reminds me of rammstein a lot. 3/5
Speed metal! My first dive into ministry and they’re pretty damn good.
Kinda fun but also kinda reminded me of Kid Rock a tiny little bit
Solid metal honestly
bah c’est du métal donc pas vrm mon style mais je penses si on aime bien c’est une belle masterclass (je mets 2,5/5)
Really hard to give a rating to this one. I've never heard this before, which is ideal for this exercise. I personally really like what I hear, especially "Jesus Built My Hotrod". Sounds like if Primus was a more straght-ahead, metal-oriented band. With that said, I don't really think most people would feel robbed of this album if they heard it in the afterlife. 3/5 down the middle it is, then.
What the hell is this
A very interesting album which I must say I enjoyed more than the doors album I got yesterday. I'm not sure where exactly to place this as 3 feels low but 4 feels too high. I'm hindsight I was probably too harsh on the nine inch nails album and maybe that should have been a 4 and this a 3. N.W.O and Jesus Built my Hotrod are the best two songs on here.
inoffensive industrial
I respect it, but it's not for me.
Thought the first half was good, second half of the album tips a little in quality, 3 probably a fair rating for me
Metal as its supposed to be, fast, loud, and blasphemous
There are some great riffs and beats on here but I don't like industrial music. Sound clips over and over of people in the background just...it gets old after awhile. Glad I listened to it, wouldn't return to it. I really don't have much else to say about it.
While acknowledging that this more or less launched a whole metal subgenre and has some awesome moments, it's just not even enough of an album. Bands like Rammstein and Fear Factory probably don't exist without Ministry but hard for me to call this one a masterpiece. It's probably best at its most electronic, and worst when it loses those industrial elements that set it apart from more generic thrash.
Nice
Not terrible. Couldn’t really understand it though so hard to appreciate the lyrics. Light 3.
Fav: Scare Crow Least Fav: Grace Man, those vocal effects ruin what could’ve been a great album. Also that last song was kinda spooky
The album
É um álbum bem interessante. Um industrial com elementos legais de metal e Punk. QoA Cloudscape.
I hate heavy stuff, but I guess it wasn't the most grating to my ears
With "Just One Fix", you can tell that Ministry and Rammstein are sometimes in the same genre. It has a very driving beat like many Rammstein songs and is quite good. "Jesus Built My Hotrod" is a weird mix of metal and almost rockabilly. It's strange and I wasn't a fan. It was honestly just annoying to me. I guess this was supposed to almost be satire? "Psalm 69" opens with the dark chorus sounds and random Christian chants, which makes it the first song that was truly heretical or critical of Christianity on the album, which was surprising considering the album title and artwork. The guitar riff in the last 1/4 of the song is reminiscent of Metallica. It's alright. This album had its moments of brilliance but overall wasn't super cohesive, in my opinion, which held it back. Rammstein does it better.
Stark trea!
Pretty sure the South Park theme song is on this lmao
In the main, I did not really enjoy this. Scarecrow is a really good track though, bumps this up a point.
Dope album cover, heavy metal I’m not used to, very aggressive
Fun, dark stuff! I dug it!
необычная музыка... местами напоминает саундтрек к блейду)
generally speaking i don’t like this kind of music. but these guys did some cool stuff arrangement wise that kept me on board more than other groups that sound like this
3.5
I quite liked it but goof didn't, it's decent for a metal album and got more melodic as it went on. Not bad.
I'll never listen to it again but it's fine
I own this in cd and maybe like it less than I did years ago
I’ve never really liked industrial metal but I kinda dug this.
Ooo
Jesus built my hotrod, then took it for a joyride and wrapped it around a tree.
I don't really know what's going on with this one. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure I need to hear it again.
Started off as a 5. A great heavy sound, good melodies and not too fast and thrashy. But then it ascended up its own arse. Too much religious imagery and at the end a lot of white noise and feedback hiss. Making my headphones sound like they are broken really pisses me off. Started a 5. Finishes a 2½
This one was pretty good. Solid industrial metal with cool noises. Lyrics are somewhat incomprehensible Favorite songs were NWO, Hero, and Jesus Built My Hotrod.
I was always under the impression this band went harder than it actually does? It's such a bad ass name, I guess it just doesn't live up to the image I had in my head.
Heavy Industrial.
Can I do 3.51 stars?
Interesting
Not my typical type of music, but you have to admire the artistry and the listenability
Listened to this album recently as part of my 2025 resolution to listen to at least one new album per week. Wrote the following note for it on my spreadsheet: "Man, was hoping this would be so much better." Previously listened to 3 songs (NWO; Just One Fix; Hotrod) Favorite Song: Just One Fix
Heavy record all around, fun to listen to in the background without much involvement in the lyrics and so on, it was okay.
it's the first metal album this website recommanded me so far and it was refreshing. don't know what "jesus built my hotrod" is about but hearing it was a goofy experience. 3.5
It aged for me, I don't like to play it anymore. But I remember it very well and have fond memories with it.
I actually liked it! Thought metal would down there with country but I liked it.
Saw the value in this but not really the kind of music I enjoy
Ministry did have a moment, and I thrashed this album when it came out many times. Today my world has turned, and while I remembered why it resonated for a teenage version, now it feels a bit simplistic. Still, very fun revisit.
3/5. Cava
I think it probably does what it does very well. What it does do is something that I don't need doing.
I didn't hate this, but honestly didn't like it much either. It was fine.
It’s like there’s a cockroach in your ear. But in a cool punky way
Verkligen inte min bag, men sjukt bra buller! En stark trea.
Having been impressed by slipknot album earlier in my rotation I was ready to dive in. I would argue slipknot has more energy. I think the key distinction for me is the melodic nature of slipknot Vs Ministry. Ministry has a more metronome thrash with maybe a more developed lyrical overtone. I think ministry has some great songs and maybe industrial side I don't prefer. Individual great songs but overall I have to peg it down Vs slippy.
One of those albums that's fine if you like the genre (I do), but I'm sure will divide opinion. It has a good driving energy and urgency to it. Powerful, frenetic riffs that create a cohesive sound wall. What I am not keen on is the complete lack of guitar solos, or indeed any real display of instrumental mastery. It's just solid metal sound. Secondly the vocal delivery isn't my preference, no melody and difficult to pick out the lyrics. Nice to see some metal on the list but this won't become a favourite of mine.
This was fine. Bland yet inoffensive. Like a beige sofa.
Enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I was going to. The tracks were fun and had a good energy. None of the songs stood out to me though, which made it hard to pick a favourite. Fav song: Scare Crow Least fav: Jesus Built My Hotrod - people were raving about this one in the reviews but I found the vocals on it annoying.
Total surprise. Don't like the vocals at all, but the guitar riffs and the drums are great, and the sound production is perfect for what they're going for. Happy to give this a 3.
Just so over the top I almost can't hate it.
Idk. 3 may be too high. Its a massive drop off from the 2 + live album that came before. Not essential at all
Noisy and thrashy. I think i’ll like it with another listen or two. Adding this to the rotation of “music to listen to while playing binding of isaac” 6/10 Favs: N.W.O.; Scare Crow
I have to admit this wasn’t the most focused listen and ended up being in 2 parts, I was aware of Ministry and being industrial metal, I was intrigued. It certainly requires further listens but there was enough here for me to want to return, so I will.
The first half of the record was pretty good. The latter half was a little disorienting for me, and it kinda fell off. Favourite Track(s): Just One Fix, Hero Least Favourite Track(s): Corrosion, Grace
Listened to this a lot back in the day. Good album
Surprisingly liked some of it
I enjoyed this more than expected! My favorites were "Just One Fix," "Scare Crow," and "Psalm 69."
