blitzkrieg ᵖᵒᵖ! some old guy would fight me for even thinking this but the ramones were and still are undeniably brat like wdym “i wanna beeee your bOyFriEnD” while wearing a whole crop top on the cover photo. i love the 70s. i love leather jackets and shitty haircuts. live laugh love ramones.
Short and to the point. That was the whole idea of the Ramones, early-60's influenced songwriting with not-very-proficient musicianship. Essentially just straightfroward dumb fun, and hugely successful at that. Key tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop Beat on the Brat Judy Is a Punk Listen to My Heart
Its the Ramones. It's exactly what you'd expect. Fun pop-punk songs w2ith simple chord progressions and catchy melodies. There are many good songs on here and I guess it made a huge impact but I can't say I'm blown away by any of it.
Yes, it’s all the same song …. But you’ve got to admit it’s a great song 😀
Iconic. When it's a punk album with an album cover of some boys standing beside walls with black and white filter on, you know it's gonna be good. Like, it is so dumb, it is brilliant. I love the sound of it. Bold, straightforward, and classic. Especially the riffs on "Beat on the Brat", so iconic and timeless. I don't know I just like this type of music, weird.
This is pretty embarrassing, but I had never actually looked up who sang the "hey ho, let's go" song before. It's the Ramones. It's the opener on here, "Blitzkrieg Pop". Banger. These guys were just jamming at CBGB and Max's Kansas City in the '70s doing their own thing and then someone found them and they pulled this together in like a week. It's a super raw but it just keeps this incredible energy throughout. I don't really consider myself a huge punk person or anything, but I can just totally see the appeal of this thing back in '70s New York. And it holds up reasonably well today too. Some of the lyrics draw from some darker sources, but the vibe is just really good. Favorite song: Blitzkrieg Pop Other: Beat on the Brat, Judy Is a Punk, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement, Loudmouth, Havana Affair, Listen to My Heart, 53rd and 3rd, Let's Dance, Today Your Love Tomorrow the World 3/16/25
Short & to the point. Punchy & fun.
This album was a blast the whole way through. Practically nonstop punk rock for half an hour straight! Blitzkrieg Bop is iconic and a great start to this album and it just keeps that energy going. I can agree that the songs kind of blend together but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. For a debut album this is pretty good!
That was an excellent way to get myself moving on a Monday morning.
Fun and classic. The songs all sound like the same song, but it's got such great energy I can't be mad.
imagine soltar blitzkrieg pop no seu debut ce eh doido qdo eu tinha dez anos meu objetivo era ter esses cabelo de cuia por conta deles. gostava mto. nao eh o melhor deles mas ainda mto pica
Worth another listen, i enjoyed
ыхыхыхых,панк без панковых текстов, мне нравиться, 4/5, ыбыбыб
I don’t consider The Ramones a great band, but I do consider them very fun to listen to, and that is all that matters. This album also does not overstay its welcome, and finishes just before it even hits the 30 minute mark.
yes ma'am!
Proof that there can be greatness in simplicity. Pure fun!
Great super great a little bit repeatative but great none the less
Het accentje van de zanger is soms een beetje irritant, maar verder gewoon lekkere rock n roll
Love. Forgot about "beat on the brat."
Love this album. Great experience listening to it, lots of energy. Songs all sound relatively similar to one another but doesn't detract too much. 4/4.5, depending on how I'm feeling. Gateway band into punk rock.
Our first punk record weiii. The first half (A side) is a bit too straight for me, and no chands, not what you're thinking. Straight as in not groovy/nervy enough when comparing to wire, television, etc. The B-side has that nerviness that I like, so will definitely be retuning to that more and more. Havana affair makes me want to overthrow the government (not actually), so so good. This album revealed itself way more second listen, way more melodic and nervy than the first listen. Have a feeling it needs a few more listens, just like Wire - Pink Flag, which took 4+ listens to really enjoy, although I still think that album has more of that nervy/jittery groove that I'm looking for. I don't care as much for the more melodic ballad-type songs on here like "I wanna be your boyfriend". I think punk needs multiple listens until those riffs and lyrics start playing in your head unsolicited. That's when the music starts making more and more sense. 4.5
Been a few years, but time to jump back into this beauty - forget about punk, this is pure rock and roll: redefined, reenergised and reoriented for the next generation. They were far from the first band to be loud, fast and brattish but they coalesced all of that into a sound and look which endured. The album itself - raw production, old fashioned surf pop sensibilities and hooks all over the place. Part of me wants to complain about the lack of variety, but a much bigger part of me loves the single-minded approach. Favourite tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Let's Dance, I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You, Today Your Love - basically the whole 29 minutes are great!
New York Punk. Short, sharp and impactful. Hey-ho, let's go !
Banger on banger on banger on banger!! Type of music that makes you want to ugly dance in the middle of the party with likeminded weirdos!
Such a great album with classics, just sad it was so short. There's potential for more, for sure. I want to give 5 stars for it's landmark nature, but it didn't quite have the fire that I look for in 5 stars.
The Ramones don't pull any punches on their iconic debut, even if the end result after years of cultural significance leaves me a little less-than-impressed. I can imagine how cool these tracks were when they were released, and for that, I can't award any less than 4 stars.
This was a fun album, definitely not a ton of variety but for classic punk it's definitely a winner.
“blitzkrieg bop” is a certified bop!
3.5
hell yeah
Hard but repetitive Highlights were chainsaw and I don't wanna go down to the basement
Catchy and joyful. Sure the songs sound similar to each other, but it’s a great sound.
I know of the album, I know 'Blitzkrieg Bop', I like the genre, should be enjoyable enough. Quick, fun album. Everything is pretty similar, but honestly none of it was bad for that reason.
Yesterday, I marked an album down for being too same-y, and here I am today giving four stars to the Ramones. In my defence, it’s catchy as hell, is too short and snappy to wear out its welcome, and no one said I had to be consistent.
About as good as punk gets which is pretty good. Blitzkrieg Bop and Beat On The Brat are top notch and send the record off euphorically coasting but after a certain point ie 2 or 3 tracks all the songs start to sound the same. Still, at least its very short and a virtual classic for the genre alongside Sex Pistols own debut.
For sure. No real musical talent and yet, musically and emotionally EPIC.
Fun to listen to a band that clearly influenced several of my more modern... but still somehow classic bands. I will take a listen to other albums from them.
Very punk rock 🤘
I know blitzkrieg bop?? A lot of the songs sound similar and give off midwest emo vibes, even though this album is from the 70s and the band is british
Legendary and still relevant. I hear The Ramones more now than I did growing up. 12 songs under 3 minutes. Sure, they all sound similar but the energy is undeniable! They were leading the American punk rock movement, it wasn't about technical playing or 8 minute guitar rock songs or beat heavy disco hits like the rest of America was doing at the time. Right out of the gates with "Blitzkrieg Bop", then follow it with classics "Beat On The Brat", "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "53rd & 3rd", & one of my favs "Havana Affair" (check out the RHCP's version sometime). They wrote songs that could have been hits in the 1950's, if tamed down & delivered differently. They even dressed like 50's kids in a leather coat and Levi's. Listen to their version of 50's classics "Let's Dance" or Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance" (different album), they do both justice. What's not to like?! It's rock & roll in it's refined form. I would have loved to see them live in 1976! Deserving of the Top 1001 for influence, staying power, a giant hit in "Blitzkrieg Bop" and being a unique force that's still respected today.
Definitiv wegweisend.
Makes me want to rewatch rock n roll high school. Album owns way more than I expected
Genre defining, awesome, some songs are a little bit repetitive
Pretty good punk formula with a fitting guitar tone. They do seem to be scared to deviate from the formula even slightly
A real riot, dives in with Blitzkrieg Bop. Punk rock. Debut. Fast and fun. Short songs. Abit samey.
Big dumb fun
What a BOP
If you like one song you like them all because they all sound the same
Classic roots of punk album
I enjoyed this. Fast moving and easy to listen to. Mostly punk with a little bit of pop.
This is the quintessential punk album - 14 songs in under half an hour, every one starts with a count of “One, two, three, four!” before crashing in. The whole thing was recorded in a week for about $6000, and still sounds authentically raw and exciting. The only thing that still makes me wince is all the references to Nazis at the end - it might have seemed edgy and amusing in 1976, but today - ouch!
Nothing beats sniffing some Elmer's and jammin' out to this rippin' album.
I know all the songs are 2 minutes, and I know they all sound the same, but damn if I don't get pumped listening to this album.
Here we are. The First Punk Album. Is it basically the same song over and over again for the entire album? Yes. But that's the thing - their goal wasn't range. There is no range. It's one-note, and that's the whole point, the audacity of the album. No nuance. Harmonious aggression, forever (for 29 minutes). Does that mean I'll put this on often? Probably not. But there's something so satisfying about this primordial spark. And before you know it, it's over, anyway. Fav tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Judy Is a Punk, 53rd & 3rd
It is good and obviously influential, does get a little boring as a whole album though. Will I listen to again: 75%
Great album
Short but great!
classic punk rock
Enjoyed Majority of the album
Don't tell me about beats per minute. Just turn it up.
Not sure what the Generator is trying to tell me with three punk/post punk albums in a row, but I'm not mad.
Some classics bopper tunes , Blitzkrieg pop and Beat on the brat are pure class. Goes pretty quick
Absolutely iconic album. I don’t know even like the Ramones that much, but this album has so many great songs.
Yes, It all sounds the same. Still a 4.
it was good. solid 8/10
Enjoyed this one - a relatively short but high energy. Will relisten.
30 minutes packed with punky goodness! 4.5
Pioneers.
Great punk rock.
Classic listen. Short, snappy songs (and album). Loud and repetitive but not in an unenjoyable way
Best nice punk vibes
its so gooood but just a little repetitive
This is always such a fun listen
Banger
Fun punk album, which sounds a bit power pop. Songs sound the same, but if it works why change it.
One my favourite band of all, maybe not my favourite album by them. Great guitars though, great energy as always. Very grateful for stuff like this.
Ramones tiene el toque fundacional de un género solo por ellos logrado. Para el momento fueron fantásticos y originales.
great stuff. Pure and true.
Pretty much the starting point for punk rock. Can be abit basic like the first half is like if early Beatles made punk, their later stuff is a lot better but from a first album could be worse
# Album Name: Ramones # Artist: Ramones # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Starts of with a absolute classic in Blitzkrieg Bop. Theres lots of energy and raw power to the first half of this album. BB, Beat on the brat, judy is a punk and i wanna be your boyfriend are good tunes. From there in, it does get a bit repetitive and brings the album down a level. Overall a good album. Lots of energy and fast pace. # Top Tunes: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the brat, judy is a punk, i wanna be your boyfriend, lets dance. # Would I listen to it again? Yes
Hey ho, lets go Lekker man weer
This is so dumb. What a treat.
Really good. Classic punky Ramones. Can’t dislike it at all really. Could be a touch more diverse but wouldn’t skip any of the tunes.
High energy dance music with a punk theme. Great rhythm. Funny to hear the fake British accents. Overall well done.
Very happy with length. I couldn’t place where I’d heard Blitzkrieg Bop but I looked it up and it was in Spiderman Homecoming. Which I guess makes sense because the Ramones and Spider-Man are both from Queens. I was also really surprised to learn that this band is from the US, because they sound so British, which was one part I didn’t like about the album. But otherwise good, a lot of the songs start the same way.
This is actually so fun. I swear I remember blitzkrieg bop being in the soundtrack for either she's the man or bend it like Beckham but I looked it up and its not. Its definitely in some movie. It's just the perfect music for a kinda shitty romcom but actually it's not shitty bc why am I so invested and giggling out loud.
It was pretty good. Definitely not much variety, but the songs were fun to listen to
4.5
Surprised I did not enjoy this iconic album ad much as expected. Highly influential yet after five songs I had heard enough. Mind you, this is punk - not there to be scrutinised by “experts’ online. Just turn it up and enjoy.
the kings of punk
Almost goes without saying that this is absolutely tremendous. An awesome wave of daftness. Churlish to give it a 4 really but compared to some true 5s, it is mono-paced (which I know is also kind of the point, but still...)
This album will pump you up real fast
A classic. Great album.
Sí, todas las canciones son muy parecidas y parecen estúpidas, pero eso ya lo sabía de lo que había oído de los Ramones. Aún así me gusta.
It's so stupid in such a sincere unironic way. I can't really place why it works, but it works in a way almost no other punk bands do. Such solid tight band, harmony without any sense trying to hard... Not a fan of this type of music, but can't deny how well this works.
Already familiar with some of the Ramones most popular music so it was cool hearing a full length album from them a Great Punk album indeed!
Favorite Track: Blitzkrieg Bop
What a fun album. This is a party album that is perfect at dances, weddings. It’s a great listen in small doses.
The Ramones are awesome. OG punk that holds up so well, you can hear direct influences in modern music, it doesn't have to be diluted much at all. Blitzkrieg Bop is insanely classic, but everything else here was new to me. Simple music, really, just a bunch of guys smashing the same chords quickly, but it works because it's so counter to everything else from the time. I like Chainsaw the most here. Kind of sounds like a punky Beach Boys.
Ah man I want to love it, but I just don't. It's good, it's genre-defining, it's fun... I just don't love it.
Noisy, energetic, unserious, pure attitude. The Ramones ladies and gentlemen. A brilliant band, and an important band. Highlights: Blitzkreig Bop, Judy Is a Punk, Chain Saw, Let’s Dance
I've had Blitzkrieg bop on a playlist for years, but never heard the whole album. This should be enshrined in Canton. Great sounding classic American punk.
God I love this album. It's so simple. 1 4 5 every song hahaha. Beginnings of punk. I feel this was ahead of it's time for 1976. It's prob a 4.5 for me. Favorite songs: Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement, and Havana Affair
Albumi #76, 12.10.2024 Ramonesin debyyttialbumi vuodelta 1976 on ehkä legendaarisimpia punk-levyjä koskaan.
Geweldig album. Is het repetitief? Zeker. Maar tijdloos. Blitzkrieg Bop is een van de vetste schijven ooit. Beat on the Brat hetzelfde. 3.7
Super repetitive but fun!
i tbh wasnt sure how i was gonna react to this but it turns out its not the 70s version of minor threat, its the 70s version of andrew wk (the fact that its the embryo for both is just an additional layer of admiration). even pumped up in muscle and tempo there is a very sweet melodic sensibility at the heart of this (inherited from the shockingly Wussy types of 50s rock they were into) that rly makes this feel like a Real Band with a Real Vision despite how many iterations in so many directions take off from here. and even if ur not into it for whatever reason, u could never claim it wastes ur time. once i get into classical music ill be explaining how this is exactly like totalism
A great punk album by a great punk band. Short and to the point.
Solid early punk album that influenced many after it
An easy 30 minute listen! Also quite enjoyable, the distortion guitar gets a little same-y, but overall its fun, its classic hard rock, cant really go wrong here.
Someone once described the Ramones to me as “The Beach Boys if they played as fast as possible” and after listening to this album I have to agree. Lean, loud and fast pop songs. At 29 minutes there’s not much to complain about!
A seminal record for the punk movement, for sure, particularly in the United States, but while I appreciate their influence, you've heard everything they have to offer once you've finished listening to "Blitzkrieg Bop". A comedy act that masqueraded as a band.
Three chords and the truth!™ 4.5/5
Lot of fun. Punk but soft (looking back now) and plenty melodic.
Enjoyable. Reminds me of Tony Hawk
Blitzkrieg Bop is one of those songs where it is hard to imagine a time before it existed. Once upon a time, nobody had heard this song before which just feels odd. That track opens this album and the guitars hit the listener straight in the face. The rest of the album defines what punk later came to be known for: simple guitars, sarcastic/tongue in cheek lyrics, and very short length songs. I think that Blitzkrieg is the only one that stands out above the others for me, but there is no denying how much punk would not exist today without this album coming first.
Pretty good. I like it but it feels like something is missing. The songs are short but so the chorus can feel a little repetitive, but it's still catchy. A lot of the songs sound similar to each other. I like Blitzkrieg Bop and Chain Saw, but I don't really have a strong opinion on the other songs. They're not bad just not memorable or too repetitive. Probably more like a 3.5/5 but I'll round to 4.
I don't hate it but also don't love it. I don't think the punk scene is for me. It's high energy the whole way through the album but much of it is the same sound.
This is a great album. It’s got some great nuance stuff for its simplicity. The songwriting is just amazing
A bit repetitive but poppy rock fun!
Does the rest of the country dig this, or just us New Yorkers of a certain age?
well it sure is a classic and i sure listened to it in the cinema while watching amelie
Really fun!!
You can hear a lot of what inspired future artists and for that it seems important Understandably it seems like everything they did here has been done since, but better
Greatest punk album of all time? Absolutely fucking not. Look, I really like this album. It's fun, fast, energetic, and the fact that it's only about half an hour is great, they clearly show self awareness that music like this can't be listened to for much longer than that. But this album simply isn't that adventurous. There is absolutely nothing actively bad about this album, every song on it is great. But they all just sound exactly the same.
A LOT which is mostly good but it does start feeling like someone banging the drums in your face for 30 minutes. Can totally see the significance and influence of course. Songs blend together but I still enjoy some more than others. 4 for significance but 3.5 for my personal enjoyment!
Certainly one of the important bands in the history of popular music. The album is extremely nice to listen to. But the songs are simply a bit too similar. But still very nice.
Love it
I appreciated it was a short album. I enjoyed the punk instrumentals and they clearly helped start the punk phase. It did feel a little repetitive at times but enjoyed it.
The execution of short songs were very good. Everyone of them nailed their part and I was a bit surprised to like them this much
I suppose at the time it came out, it must have been quite the thing, now, if I'm honest, it sounds quite tame. There are some good songs here though.
Legendarisk, the OG's. Men altså... ALLE deres sange lyder som Blitzkrieg Bop haha, der er virkelig kun én lyd på spil. Den var selvfølgelig også revolutionerende, men det bliver trættende at høre på pladen. Lidt ligesom Doors' debut.
Eigentlich 2-3, aber durch Nostalgie 4 Sterne
Classic punk rock record influenced so many bands. Stand out tracks: - Blitzkrieg Pop - Beat on the Brat - I wanna be your boyfriend - Chainsaw - I don't wanna go down to the basement - Havana Affair - Listen to my heart - Let's dance - Today your love, tomorrow the world
Some great tracks from the early era of punk. Even at 30 minutes feels a bit repetitive by the end, but mostly an enduring classic.
Fun, easy, punk rock - these guys paved the way for the genre. Not a band I listen to much but Blitzkreig Bop is a BOP.
Very classic, great songs, def one note but the spirit and energy carry 👍
3.75
If you ever go to Berlin, I'd definitely advise the Ramones museum. For three euros, you get entry, a beer and a pin badge. Or you did in 2012. I bet it's more now. The economy, am I right? Anyway, this is an absolute blast of muscular punk. You can really see the impact it had on the whole scene, and on artists that ended up quite far away from the Ramones tonally.
Ramones are awesome. Truly wish I was around when they came out. This album is very enjoyable.
Can't argue this shouldn't be on the list
A very solid punk rock album. It appeals to the average non-punk listener as well as being palatable for those who prefer a more extreme punk angle. A lot of the songs sounded the same, but overall very good.
An album that inspired 14yr old me to pick up a guitar and play. Punk perfection.
sorry blitzkrieg bop isch eifach en bop, sie haben nicht gelogen beat on the brat han ich auscho immer en soft spot gha us irgeme grund, es isch so unglaublich simpel hahaha wanna be your boyfriend isch chli pathetisch aber find gitarre no cute ja es tönt halt alles glich mussmer sege historisch mega wichtig, musikalisch halt punk aber e gueti ziit hani trz gha
Nihilistic, minimal and ugly in all the right ways! A punk masterpiece that saw the Ramones at their most raw and authentic. If you listen close you can hear blemishes throughout the record; a missed chug of a guitar chord or a misstep on the drums. It’s crude and caveman like but not without politic! I love it but it serves more as a piece of history rather than a jump back in multiple times-kind of listen.
Hey ho let’s go. I always found them a bit too poppy for my teenage taste but I guess I missed that that’s the whole point of the ramones. Sounds fresh today, testament to its influence I suppose. 4s on the doors. I just can’t love it more
Classic
Very good
Can't be mad at blitzkrieg rap.
I don't think I've ever really sat down and just listened to Ramones, but I probably should have. I have heard some tracks before like 'Blitzkrieg Bob' and they still hold up. It's a short 30 min listen, and I don't think it overstays its welcome. Standouts Blitzkrieg Bop Beat on the Brat 4/5
fav song : tyl, ttw
Fast, energetic, and catchy as he'll.
A bit repetitive but too cool not to give at least 4
Classic
Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Artwork: HEY HO, LET'S GO! Mix (2017 Remaster): KANNSTE NIX GEGEN SAGEN! Musik: DUMM ABER SCHLAU! Wertung: ❗❗❗❗/5
4 great
Took me many years to get it, but I finally feel the elegance of its simplicity. I wouldn’t say I adore every song on here, but most are amazing, and it’s impossible to think of what everything in music has become without acknowledging the lesson this record has given everyone on power.
3-4
Still rocking
Love their commitment to the gimmick! Embracing the dumb & the simple in a clever way.
Solid album. Listened a while ago and forgot to rate it. Good songs and nice and short, no need to drag this kind of music out.
What did they want to do? What didn't they want to do?
Still sounds great. Can almost imagine myself at CBGB...
Have heard the album before, but not for a while. Rock and Roll distilled to its core, proving that four chords is all you need. This album is the Beatles of New York (if not America) debut, and it still sounds as brash and provocative today. The album is of course incredibly influential. Listening now, almost all of it works. A few songs feel repetitive, but considering the similar beat, similar chords, and similar singing, it's interesting to hear how there can still be a subtle diversity of songs. "That girl could still be mine But I'm tired of the hurt"
Not in the mood for this all that often, but when I am, it scratches the itch.
It's good
A classic one, over 3.5
Ramones
pretty good album, some classic rock songs. nice listen
This album's a lot of fun. It's great music for thrashing around the room when you're having a frustrating day! A lot of the songs do sound the same. Liked songs added: - Blitzkrieg Bop - Listen To My Heart
Classic punk sound
A blast from the punk rockin' past
I had heard this before, but it's an excellent album. Much of punk takes cues from this nearly 50 years later, and it sounds a lot less dated than one would expect. Favorites: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Chain Saw, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
Great classic punk album.
Straight into Blitzkrieg Bop and we're OFF, pedal to the metal! Yes, the songs are incredibly similar, they mostly share the same three chords, and are all very short and chanty. But for the most part it's a good, head bopping time. It gets in, does it's thing, and gets out. And it's kind of great for it. 3.5 rounded up.
hell yea some classic punk. down to the basement is a slept on track. undeniably important album and band.
The thing about the Ramones is that even when it's not great it's still pretty good and even if it's not pretty good, it doesn't last very long. Some all-timers on this one.
The blast furnace of all modern punk rock. Is it the best album? No. (That'd be 'Destroyed' by Sloppy Seconds). Is it the most important? Possibly - a few Stooges fans might argue otherwise (including me on a different day), but this is the template for so much that follows. Eschewing the artsy sensibilities of British punk, this is all about delinquency, stoopidity and rockin' out. It's realised via an admirable amount of energy and an equally admirable dearth of chords. Two minutes, some buzzsaw guitar and a bunch of antisocial words. The purists may say that's all that rock 'n' roll ever needed.
Still sounds great. Can almost imagine myself at CBGB...
Fun
Great album, every song sounds great..
Dope
Well surprised…8/10 👍
good album but please dont ask little girls to be your boyfriend 4/5
It kind of all sounds the same, but I don't really care. Great album.
Classic for the 3 minute and 3 chord songs that were a response to the weird prog rock of the time
3.8/5 listened 2x
Although I’m a huge fan of punk, the Ramones have never fully grabbed my attention. I think they’re one of the most innovative punk bands ever, they have a very fun and malleable sound, and they have penetrated and influenced western culture in numerous ways.
People are really gonna sit here and tear down this album because it doesn't feel artistic enough for this era. Why are we gonna sit here and pretend like this record is supposed to define the genre years ahead of it's time! This is the embodiment of 1970's Punk, in it's purest form of tomfoolery, beer chugging, basement raving bangers. Yes their are much more examples of punk that feel more replayable but this LP feels like a piece of history to me, from the cover to the music it has to offer. It's like digging into a time capsule and finding gold. I love the pure mindless fun they bring on each song.
I have always loved the Ramones!
Not my music but better than I expected
really good
najs!
This is proper punk! Lo-fi, low budget fun. (Nearly) where it all started. A right blast. However I always preferred The Dammed, The Clash, The Saints and loads of others. The Ramones have never featured heavily in my listening rotation throughout my life, so it is nice to revisit after what seems like an eternity. However I'm pleased to say I have seen a 'Ramone' live! It gets a 4 star for being stupidly influential.
I have never tried hard drugs, but I imagine listening to 14 songs in 29 minutes is somewhat reminiscent of doing cocaine. Anyways, iconic record!
Good shiz. Punk pioneers
I think this is one of those albums that people love or hate. Yes, it's pretty repetitive, a lot of the songs are the same chords played at the same tempo, and the vocals may not be for everyone. I love it. It's raw, messy, energetic, and fun to listen to. And super influential - think of all the kids playing in their parents' garages that started a band after hearing this record. And their parents hated it. Is it one of the best albums ever made? Not, of course not. But it is a great album for sure and absolutely deserves to be on this list. 4/5
This album has a timeless sound that, even after almost five decades, still sounds like the music of a young rebellious teenager. Blitzkrieg Bop has become a classic that tops all playlists and collections of Punk Rock Anthems. Legendary!
Some classic songs on this album! I've always thought I was born in the wrong era - I should have been jumping about in a sweaty pit at one of their shows 4 ⭐️
Never listened to an album by the Ramones. I played a lot of Blitzkrieg Bop on Guitar Hero when I was young. A really fun punk rock album. The second half of the album is a lot better than the first half. Kinda felt like going through the motions. Not much to take away but a good listening experience. Standouts: Blitzkrieg Bop, I Don’t Wanna Go Down to the Basement, Havana Affair, Let’s Dance, and Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World.
I’m not a great lover of Punk Rock, but the music is honest and sincere and not pretentious in any way. If you’re going to listen to Punk why not THE Punk. Solid work.
when the singing is so unintelligible it could be AI generated thats when you know its real punk
never been huge on the Ramones, and similar to the Sex Pistols from a few days ago the mythology seems more impactful than the band. unlike the Sex Pistols I never disliked the Ramones, they're just not my favourite (I'm not fun enough) and if I want the short tight song vibe I'll put on Wire instead. also like the Sex Pistols, what makes them good is rhythmic. It's easy to play a power chord song but it's hard to make it sound awesome. Here that rhythmic aspect is more from the vocal & everything else than the guitar, which just steadily grinds away. (⌐■_■)
14 songs 29 minutes that’s the good stuff. We should always be so lucky. These guys lose a lot of studio steam real quick but not on the debut.
I guess there really is such a thing as classic punk.
Point blank: the Ramones are overrated. They came first, maybe. They had style, maybe. They had songs, some. They could play, not really. This album will forever adorn the walls and t-shirts of the same posers who owned Legend by Bob Marley and said they were reggae fans. There are so many bands that came after, and some that came before, that did it better than the Ramones. With all that said, as (one of) the forefathers of punk, they have a place in history. In the hands of a lesser band, these songs would sound flat, but the Ramones had the New York panache to execute on the ethos. The second half is not as strong as the first, but overall a notable album.
Awful and Brilliant in equal measures
It's the Ramones. Great punk album.
It's like watching old movies. You've seen it done a hundred times but this was the first. They sound like every modern punk band or rather every modern punk band sounds like them.
Super fun and super pop-y but also with that great early punk edge. This music is also very 'iconic' - it's hard to forget the many times I've heard these tracks played along with a commercial or movie soundtrack... almost to the point of parody. Nonetheless I had my head boppin' and my toes tappin' and this mostly just felt really good.
4/5. British punk at its core. Sure, way more pop than punk but the short songs mixed with an undertone of naivety and anger create a youthful energy that somehow has an early Beach Boys vibe mixed with the Stooges. It's definitely here to say what they want to say and then leave with no explanation. It's funny but it is a voice of a generation. Just not my vibe all the time so it stays at a 4 for me. Best Song: Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy Is A Punk, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
I feel that it's fitting I stayed up late to listen to this while thinking about Spike. lmao
Yes!
A really energetic and fun record which was a really nice breath of fresh air after the past couple borefests that I got recently. It's really easy to see how this band became a cultural phenomenon. Could do without the Nazi references tho.
Short, fast, and awesome!
kind of repetitive, but still a good time and very short so it doesn't get annoying
Music at its rawest, purest form. Love it.
The Ramones are fucking awesome.
This is the definitive Punk Record, and it really makes me want to sniff some glue. The angst and punch of the guitars it's just so real. This is that hunger that I see missing in the mainstream but digging even a bit of the service this sound is still alive in bands like Julie, Fontaines D.C, Jeff Rosenstock etc. Like it has extended past its misfits, Ramones and the clash influences. All that said however this still kicks so hard and yeah title track is iconic but every song after has this beautiful dance between the guitars, drums and vocals all fighting for the spotlight which just makes so much more hardcore that they can all contest for the top spot. The best part about this record is that the lows are only lows for like 2 minutes max 53rd and 3rd wasn't my favorite but let's dance comes on right after to make me feel better. At less than 30 minutes you can listen to this whole album on your way to get groceries or morning commute as the Ramones intended this album to be heard and be back to listening to NPR on your way back. 9/10
Classic
Classic in punk rock.
THE groundbreaking band for American punk. Blitz is such an iconic song and so fitting to be T1S1 on their debut. The songs are very short but pack a powerful punch. The album is arguably somewhat one note, but the teens punching air and slamming into each other before mosh pits were a thing didn’t seem to care. They were just loud and proud to have their own sound and distance themselves from the previous hip generation. This band and style was very influential for progression of many punk and alternative bands through the 70’s and on, I’ll go 3.5/5 rounded up.
A quintessential album of the genre and rocks from start to finish. It wears me out a bit and it’s not like a TON of thought went into these songs… but I’m sure that is exactly the point.
4/5
Cool Leather jacket duude
There’s something almost… quaint? About old punk like this. It was so rebellious at the time but now feels passe
A classic.
Deeply influential to me as a youth, I could never hate Ramones. Now, as an adult, I can rely appreciate how innovative and simple their aesthetic is – sped up rockabilly/girl group/surf rock music with grittier lyrics? Obviously cool and catchy! All the common criticisms normally thrown at them are blatantly from people who don't believe in punk music, or from people who are projecting a preconceived notion about how the band sounds onto the actual songs themselves. The riffs are distinct, the hooks are all unique, and they shift tempos and have enough variety. Now, I do get that sometimes it's a lot in one album, but I wouldn't say that's an issue here (or on Rocket to Russia, for that matter – the stronger album overall). And sure, sometimes the change up is a little against their strengths ("Havana Affair), but sometimes it truly works ("I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend"). Most of all, Ramones are great at their meat and potatoes, and that's mainly what this record is dishing out. If you like punk, you may not think this is flawless, but you're going to like it. And I like it. I may not be spinning this all the goddamn time compared to Gorilla Biscuits or Embrace, but it's a solid classic in my primary genre of choice.
On reconnaît tout de suite les chansons des Ramones, surtout par leurs guitares et leur rythme, un mélange de fièvre et de lourdeur. Je les ai toujours aimés. Une sorte de conclusion logique du mouvement punk
Upbeat and a really fun album. The template for every punk album ever. No song overstays its welcome. Fun, simple, nothing stands out in particular, each song sounds the same. A great debut album, will always keep coming back to it.
Punk as fuck
The punk aesthetics were alienating to me as a child but listening to this again you realize this is just charged up pop music slammed into very efficient punk aesthetics and it works so well
Simple, loud and fun.
One of the most influential albums of the 20th century and it still holds up today. Favorite track: Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
Quintessential punk. Punk did go on to do cooler things though.
Solid banger from front to back, but as most old school punk does, it gets a little "samey" by the mid-way point. Still a solid entry and well worth it's place on this list. Standout Tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend
Yes Fav songs: Beat on the brat Listen to my heart =]
I mean it's the same song with different lyrics for 30 minutes, but it's a good song each time. Super enjoyable
I mean yeah it’s pretty much the same song over and over, but I love that song. Great energy on here, and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Favorite songs are Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Havana Affair, and Let’s Dance.
Some songs that are classics in their genre. Not an album that ill personally return to often but I appreciate what it did for music
I have not listened to this album yet, but I did know the Ramones from listening to Blitzkrieg Bop before. This album started off strong, I liked how each song gave me a taste of their overall sound since they are so short. But I noticed how the instrumental was very repetitive for many of their songs which resulted in a merging effect that didn’t make many songs stand out to me. However, I did like: Beat on the Brat. I didn’t know this was a punk album cause it didn’t feel very punk to me but then again I haven’t listened to much punk music. I will listen again!
Not sure how I never actively listened to this given how much I like The Clash. Good stuff - charged, frenetic and catchy as hell. My head has been bobbing the whole record.
I loved it.
Solid.
I was so excited to get this album! I've heard of the Ramones before but I had never listened to them intentionally. Did not disappoint, loved the band and the vocals.
It was a relatively short album. I knew several of the songs. None of the songs carried on too long. I would listen to it again.
I didn't know they sang "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Beat on the Brat", and "Listen To My Heart".
So I just dissed the Dust because I said I didn't like loud crescendo-y guitar playing. BUT I do love the Ramones. I guess if you add a consistent up-beat in-your-face dance beat to it I'm hooked. I mean, who couldn't want to dance to Blitzdrieg Bop or Judy is a Punk.
Not their best album but so much fun none the less.
Something about how the Ramones are like Levi's 511s, I can always count on them. I don't wear Levi's 511s anymore but I like knowing they're still there.
I mean leave home and rocket to Russia are technically superior, but still
Such a good one. I wish it sounded a little better but still great music. Maybe a liittle repetitive, but still good fun
Love me some Ramones.
Consistent energy
8/10
Anti convencional
Great punk rock intro - upbeat fast songs throughout!
Bops. Repetitive but bops.
Classic, super important, bouncy and fun ...and WOW it sounds bad (production-wise) in 2024. There should be a list of albums ranked by the ratio of popularity to production quality; this would be high on that list.
Classic
3.5 stars rounded up. Great first US punk album.
Ультимат поп-панк альбом. Лучшая песня - Blitzkrieg Bop.
It's fun, simple, straight ahead rock. I could die a happy person if I never hear Blitzkrieg Bop again, but otherwise a very fun album that's easy to listen to with short catchy songs.
Blitzkerg Bop - 10/10 Beat on The Brat - 8/10 Judy is a Punk - 8/10 I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - 8/10 Chain Saw - 8/10 Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue - 8/10 I Don’t Wanna Go Down to the Basement - 8/10 Loudmouth - 8/10 Havana Affair - 8/10 Listen to My Heart - 8/10 53rd & 3rd - 8/10 Let’s Dance - 8/10 I Don’t Wanna Walk Around With You - 8/10 Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World - 8/10 TOTAL - 114/140
While I do find the album a bit repetitive at times, it’s undeniably a staple in the punk world and deserves respect for what it represents. Despite its flaws, I genuinely enjoyed listening to it.
The debut album of the Ramones, a record which shook the world. I remember my older brother playing this at high volume, and being truly amazed. From the opening “Blitzkrieg Bop”, it starts at 100 mph and doesn’t let up. This is not virtuoso, but they play fast. The songs are short and sweet, 14 tunes in 29 minutes! Lyrically, the songs are not to be taken seriously, from “Beat on the Brat (with a baseball bat)” to “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”, this is simply fun. Full disclosure, not only have I owned this album sine the late 70’s, I saw the Ramones live at a small club in Ohio in 1978…. And it was an experience to remember. The only downside with the Ramones it that they are pretty much a 1-trick pony. But what a trick it is. Well worth having. 4/5
Solid. When Britain regained the rock and roll torch back from america after some dire years of glam rock.
Good old-school punk vibes!
good but not the best ramones album
Here are several fine young men who I'm sure are gonna go far
Great album.
same song but good song
"Ramones" by Ramones, released in 1976, is a raw and energetic debut album that laid the foundation for punk rock. With its stripped-down sound, catchy melodies, and fast-paced songs, the album is a testament to the band's "back-to-basics" approach to rock music. Tracks like "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Beat on the Brat," and "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" are punk anthems that showcase the band's signature style. The album's production is intentionally lo-fi, giving it a gritty and rebellious edge that set it apart from the polished rock of the time. While some critics have noted the album's lack of musical complexity, its simplicity is part of its charm. The Ramones' no-frills approach to songwriting and performance paved the way for countless punk bands to follow. Overall, "Ramones" is a seminal album in the history of punk rock, and it earns a 4/5 rating for its influence, attitude, and timeless appeal.
Peak Punk with catchy guitar riffs and hooks, fun album!
meh, good enough
The album that started punk
Hasn't aged well but I dig it as an early punk album.
Classic punk vibes God drums
Ah the Ramones. Good stuff here. Pioneers in the punk era. So influential to so many others that came after them. Funny to think that these guys were considered controversial, they seem so mellow and innocent compared to what there is now in terms of controversial. I did finish the album. Good stuff. I'm torn between 4 and 5...
I respect what this album did to music birthing the punk scene. Listening closely I did enjoy the guitar playing in a way I was unable to enjoy when I was younger. I may go back and listen to a few songs but I really dont listen to them for enjoyment so I would give this a 4, but know it should be a 5.
Four stars just because it's Ramones, one of the founders of punk rock. But is their sound really that different from just rock'n'roll? I mean, what kind of punk band has a tambourine? As far as I can tell, the main innovation in the music is the way the guitars sound different. The punk essence is mostly in the edgy lyrics and general attitude. Anyway, "Blitzkrieg Bop" is a classic, and the rest of the tracks are only relevant, again, as an important bit of music history.
Not really my style, but that's why I am using this app!
29 minutes of one paced, montone noise. But, my God, what a glorious 29 minutes.
Great album, I listen to this album frequently.
ah simpler times.
HL: "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Beat on the Brat”, “Chain Saw”, “Havana Affair”, “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” After the Sex Pistols & Dead Kennedys last month, I thought that’s about all the classic punk bands I’ll be introduced to on this list. Psych! Here’s the Ramones, with a debut that’s spiky and catchy, if somewhat one-note. Is “Blitzkrieg Bop” the greatest opening song ever or what February 3, 2024
As straightforward and punk rock as it gets, if you don't like one song just wait two minutes and it'll change! This was a great shot of adrenaline for where I'm at in the project, and the easy-going cool of the Ramones' execution made for an easy listen. Sometimes all you need is a few chords and 1-2 minutes to just lay it all out there.
In a nutshell: a starter pack to early punk rock. The only bummer on this album is the slow track "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", which sounds like it was played under duress. Overall: 8/10
I can hear the bands I love in this album.
Great punk. Not a ton of variation but really enjoyable stuff.
Plain pure power. Simply enjoyable
Familiar songs. Very repetitive sound.
The most fun was to learn playing rhythm guitar.
Punk rock blueprint.
еее, роцк алкоальбом: кровавая мэри
COME ONNNNNNN. What an album.
Very good
Pop punk at its finest.
Some parts were weird but overall not bad
