Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Glam rock without a terribly huge amount of glam. Incredible how this list can pick a Slade album with only one of Slade's best three tracks.

Not bad. It occurred to me that Holder sounds a bit like Janis Joplin at times, so I was amused when their cover of Joplin's "Move Over" started playing. Apparently he's well aware of the vocal similarity. 3.5 stars.

Blind album, know the artist from their big hit. Album was alright honestly. Nothing big or memorable but I am glad I tried it.

How D'you Ride - 3 The Whole World - 2 Look at Last Night - 4 I Won't Let it Happen Agen - 3 Move Over - 2 Gudbuy T'Jane - 3 Gudbuy Gudbuy - 2 Mama Weer All Crazee Now - 2 I Don't Mind - 4 Let the Good Times Roll - 3 My Life is Natural - 3 Candidate - 3 Wonderin' Y - 3 Man Who Speaks Evil - 3 I'm Mee, I'm Now - 3 Kill Em - 2

Not to bad for a band I had never heard of. Glam Zeppelin. 3/5

This was an interesting one. Coming out in 1972, that surprised me, but some of the songs on here were quite good. However, with 50 years of music after it, it has lost some of its original charm. I wasnt around then, but if i was i reckon id give it 5 stars

Generic. Holds up unbearably neutrally.

Better than I expected. Always assumed they were a novelty group.

Glam rock, hard rock. Escuchable.

This album confused me because it sounds like 80’s hair metal but came out in like 1972. Guess that’s why it made the list, for being so ahead of the times. Then it goes into ballads and a weird band member introduction over another bands song at the end of the album. WTF was that about? That said I didn’t hate it! Also is this one of the bands that inspired Lovefist of the GTA universe? Sure seemed like it. I’ll have to look into that.

Music that is barely hanging on to its "glam rock" status, similar to Kiss or some Alice Cooper, but I'd say this is pretty okay. Most of it is inoffensive rock 'n' roll riffs with vocals that are neither forgettable nor iconic, but every now and then something leaks through that I find enjoyable. I'd say it makes me hopeful, but then I remember its just because I like glam rock, and I can find that in much better artists and albums.

'njoyable.

Just ok!

Lyder meget foran for sin tid med sådan noget hårmetal. Charme i soundbits til sidst. Men det er gjort bedre af Van Halen og Europe siden

Meh, it's ok.

Presumably foundation level stuff for this style of Brit rock. Lyrically functional though they seemed like a whole lot of nothing. Completely fine but I don't imagine I'll come back to it.

Just like MC5 predicting punk music, this Slade album is supposed to be some sort of proto-glam or something. But all I hear is generic hard rock with some subtle Bowie touches here and there. That's no T. Rex, that's for sure.

I don't feel "slayed", but this was a very energized record. Must have been cool at the time, but today it pretty much feels like a generic rock album.

A very fun and pleasant hard rock glam output. Nothing special or pushing boundaries, but I always have a good time with Slade.

Some classic Rock but not really my thing.

I made an audible sigh when I saw a Slade album pop up here. That album cover. That album title. I’m just not going to like this am I? Scrolling through Apple Music looking for it, I couldn’t believe just how much music this lot made. First impressions were that Noddys voice will just annoy me. But they all seemed to be having a bloody good time making music. I then got into a little run of tracks that must have broken through my inoculation against 1970s big-flared-cheese-rock and I realised that I was having quite a good time too. Maybe I had a bang on the head or something, but ‘I Won’t Let it ‘Appen Again’, ‘Move Over’, and ‘Gudbuy T’Jane’ are decent tracks! I’m a sucker for good bass playing and this was decent enough to distract me from Noddys screeching. I guess this is why I’m still here with 1,001 albums every day. There’s some rubbish on the list, and some albums I already absolutely love. And occasionally I get a surprise like this! I’d never have listened to a Slade album and would’ve gone to my grave believing they were nothing more than a novelty Christmas act. P.S. I bet they were great to see Live P.P.S. Just because I like this it doesn’t mean I’ll suddenly like Status Quo. So don’t try it Mr 1,001 albums. Just don’t ok?

never heard of slade but i fairly liked their stuff. it’s nothing special but it was fine to listen to

Fun album name haha, only exposure to Slade is with the Rock n Roll Rollercoaster at Disney (which I did love tbf). Not so into 70s but I do enjoy rock so intrigued to see what I’ll think… Liking it off the bat! Guitar and music is fun, not entirely taken with the vocals. 3/5, vocals weren’t my thing but liked the backing. Not a library album.

Not a bad sound, but I'm not sure it'd get regular rotation. Standouts include Goodbye T'Jane, I Don't Mind, Candidate Y, and Man Who Speaks Evil.

I only listened to a few but Iiked it

Some good old R&R not unlike AC/DC. They are new to me ... didn't even realize that Cum on Feel the Noise was their song. This album has some good hard rockin tunes. 3.5 stars

Who taught these fellas how to spell, Jack Nicholson's Joker? And is that Anthony Kiedis mugging on the album cover? There's a lot to unpack here. Like how Quiet Riot basically made a career off of these boys. This album sounds like a party that will clearly result in a wicked hangover because they only serve cheap vodka, and even though you can sense said hangover a mile away, you don't give a fuck. Mama mama weer ahl crazee nowe.

A much-needed rocker after some more challenging, droll albums this week. Keeps things nice and simple with some solid guitar, keen songwriting, and lyricism that has aged surprisingly well for the era. This straightforward formula does wear a bit thin by the album’s end, but an overabundance of some good meat and potatoes-level rock n’ roll is welcome after the picks I’ve had as of late.

Never heard of these guys before

Great voice but honestly bored me

These guys rock almost as hard as The Beatles! The music isn’t interesting enough to excuse the lyrics and vice versa. (They’re right in the Spinal Tap strike zone, though that isn’t their fault.) But if you zone out, it’s a perfectly comfy used rock ‘n roll sofa. It’s obviously secondhand and stained, but in the basement rec room, who cares?

If the Rolling Stones and AC/DC had a baby, I feel like Slade would be the result. A progenitor of heavier rock, you can still hear the influences of the 60s on the music, but feel the oncoming rush of guitar riffs and hard hitting drums that would follow in the 70s-80s. I don’t know that I’ll be diving deeper into Slade’s discography, but I certainly enjoyed it more than some of my colleagues did.

It's fine

Was not Slayed by Slade. Minor wound, maybe.

Fine. Decent classic rock. A few years ago I watched Slade’s movie Flame, which was okay. My biggest memory of watching that movie is being thankful for subtitles, because I was not familiar with their accents and could barely understand what they were saying.

Decent, like Kiss but probably less problematic? After a few songs I was good though.

I liked this alright. I don’t like those glam metal type vocals typically, and that opinion stood during this listen, but it didn’t grate on me too much. They had an otherwise really nice sound, but some of their instincts were not to my taste. For example, I was digging the Janis cover at the beginning with the bass, but then when they just had the drummer tapping on the high hat, I was like “Oh, come on.” Overall, I’m not mad I listened and actually enjoyed most things about it, but it couldn’t get over a 3, because it was dragged down by those things I didn’t like.

Slade har jo min favorittjulesang, så dei skal få litt goodwill i dag

Har sine øyeblikk. Litt kjedelig

Not bad. Classic British rock with a hint of punk.

These guys seem to have been important in the UK but I've never heard of them and they don't strike me as that interesting. Pretty middle of the road and bland.

Good old cheap 70s glam rock. With their harder rock sound and crazy energy, they were highly influential to both glam metal and early punk. It's very true-to-form to rock n roll. I could see most of these songs translating extraordinarily well to live performances, with arena sounds. It's all really decent; I feel they were influenced a lot by Led Zeppelin with both the bluesy guitar and expressive vocal style. Compared to other glam artists like T Rex or Roxy Music, it lacks ingenuity, relying on catchy riffs and lyrics, suffering from repetition and doesn't take the music too far. There's some creative deep cuts in here like "I Don't Mind", but I felt like a lot of it was filler that had little to offer. I'm sure a lot of this is because of the dated sound that sounds generic from a modern perspective but was probably new and weird back then. Or maybe people just loved it because of the mainstream nature and accessibility, combined with their flamboyant and wild live performances. Apparently Kurt Cobain liked it though, so maybe there's more to it? Favorites: The Whole World's Goin Crazee, Move Over, Mama Were All Crazee Now

Decent but ultimately fast forgotten glam rock

A decent rock album from a British band. Definitely in the time of when many other rock bands were putting out as much as they could it’s easy to have never heard of this album. Not that these guys weren’t that good they just didn’t have the long term appeal as other British rock bands. Nothing amazing but good enough to be average in this list. 6.2/10

It was better than I expected, but doubt I'll ever listen to it again.

Reeves and Mortimer have a lot to answer for, as does Dave Hill’s fringe. Nice to hear something from Slade that isn’t Christmassy - but I bet that song has paid for a lot of Christmas presents. Not unpleasant.

Merry Christmas everyone

Lots of fun catchy tunes

Du glam/hard rock très standard des années 70. Pas tellement mauvais, mais je ne vois pas tellement comment ça se démarque de la panoplie de bands similaire de cette époque. Ça ne doit pas aider que ce genre de hard rock me fatigue à la longue. 5/10

Pretty standard 70s British rock n roll album. Shirtless, flamboyant, and some very uneeded tambourines. I learned something new though. That Cum on Feel the Noize was originally theirs and Quiet Riot just made it better. But it's not a bad album or band. It's just if you've heard any glam rock song before you've heard them all, they all have the same vibe. I'm also glad tambourine solos are not a thing anymore.

Best Song: I Don't Mind. It's got that in your face bravado that really fits the raw nature of the musicians. Worst Song: Gudbuy Gudbuy. Do they think the dumb spelling thing is cute? Does it make sense to have a song that's just repeatedly screaming "Goodbye" over and over anywhere but the end of the album? Overall: Another contender for worst cover art on this list. An album from that early 70's era where you didn't need to be particularly talented or attractive to be popular. You just needed to sing really hard and that eagerness would take you pretty far. That being said, I like how hard he sings.

They became a bit of a joke but they were the archetypal glam band at the time. The hits are still good to listen to. Good old fashioned Brummie rock. I have a grudging soft spot for them I guess but can only guess what the Yanks make of them......

Hugely influential on a diverse range of genres, including punk, glam, and hair metal. This is rock at its least pretentious. It's just unpolished, screaming rock and roll to get you out of your seat.

Always a fun band.

Better than I expected. I still wouldn't listen to this over AC/DC or something, around the same time, but not bad.

Well, wasn't this a rough-as-guts piece of heavy glam rock! Not nearly as polished as many of their contemporaries, Chas Chandler made a good call by harnessing a pretty live and loud Slade at the height of their powers. I noticed how much better this sounds as you turn the volume up. I also didn't realise how much Nobby Holder sounds like Janis Joplin until I heard this cover of Move Over. I'd still take Janis' version over this, but it would have kicked arse in concert. That said, the songs selection shows me that they had a pretty narrow view of what their appeal was at the time. The songs on the album are all uniformly loud, raucous and stompin' rock and roll, which makes them seem like a one tricky pony. It all got a bit wearing by the time I was halfway through the album. It was a bit repetitive. I mean, Gudbuy T'Jane immediately followed by Gudbuy Gudbuy suggests that they were maybe a little short of inspiration. But here is a counter-factual to consider: The expanded edition I listened to had a bunch of b-sides appended to the main album; My Life is Natural, Candidate, Wonderin' Y, and Man Who Speaks Evil. They were all pretty good (especially My Life is Natural) and provided a bit more variety of texture than the songs on the album proper. What would have happened if they had cut the four most repetitive songs on Slayed? and replaced them with these more varied tracks? Then I think we're moving from a 2.5 star album to a 3.5 star record. For the purpose of ratings, though, I'm going to split the difference. Three stars.

Kinda AC/DC-esk but not as good.

Slayed? Slade. Slade!

Best track off this album wasn’t even on the album it was a non album single. These boys should have spent more time in school, their spelling is atrocious

Better than I assumed. Never heard of them prior.

If ACDC and Led Zepplin's baby had a cousin who was friends with Queen's uncle thrice removed, you would get Slade. That said, some of the songs are genuinely good that I enjoyed listening to. It merely reminds me of bands I have heard before who did it better, with more soul. Perhaps just not as phonetically British lol

Rambunctious, rollicking rock ' roll!

Meh, it was fine. Not bad, not terribly interesting. Decent instrumentals, average vocals. Almost every single adjective I think of screams 3, so here we are. Favorite track: Let the Good Times Roll

How deed thay take the Rolleen Stones and ackshually improof the sownd? I lyke how rowdee and energetic this album is.. the nock-off Stoenes butt better! 6/10

Rock music that kinda rocks.

How I would expect a Slade album to sound

Catchy but simple rock & roll songs on this album. I thought the second half of the album was much better, but then realised these were bonus tracks.

It’s a good listen. Not much though.

HL: "Let the Good Times Roll", "Look at Last Nite", "Mama Weer All Crazy Now" July 30, 2023

They know how to rock.

- This is exactly what I hear when someone says 70s rock - Good and fun to jam to but nothing I'd deeply listen to - Good beer music

It's a good enough listen but doesn't fundamentally alter the view that they were a singles band. Poor spelling too boys, must do better.

Dubin rock mais sans plus 3

Pretty good!

Highlights: "How D'You Ride," "Gudbye T'Jane," "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" Begrudging praise for its clear influence and lots of strong craftsmanship. The combination of Queen production techniques with ACDC vocals before either of those bands existed would have ripped my head off in 1972. Predates New York Dolls by a year too, a very similar rock style with very different guitarwork. There's some super sharp work by the band on here that just gets ruined repeatedly by the singer's inability to vamp or jam without losing his touch. Every time he tries to riff in the last minute of every song it completely ruins it. Never had a bigger whiplash than going from that scorching opener to the second song, legitimately one of the worst things I've ever heard. The sound is consistent, but the quality isn't. Extremely uneven album.

Slade did not slay on “Slayed?” It’s fine. It just never rises above its influences, which starts with late 60s hard rock and gets more and more like a late-Beatles clone later on the album.

Leuke glamrock

they are so british

This is pretty fun, and it grew on me over the course of listening. It had lots of familiar sounds and styles in it; at times I felt like I was listening to AC/DC + the Beatles + Twisted Sister. The Janis Joplin cover was great, better than the original in my opinion. These guys did the original version of Cum on Feel the Noise, which explains why I'm hearing some Sister/Quiet Riot in here. Not every song was great, but overall it's a decent record.

This was fine. I didn't realize this style of cock rock existed in 1972 though. Sounds like proto-AC/DC or something. 2.5/5

That was alright, not surprised that these guys never caught on in the states, because we had enough bands like them at the time. The Quiet Riot covers sound almost note-to-note. C-

The album was alright. It wasn't bad but not great. I don't think I recognized any of the songs. I didn't hate any of the songs. It was a short album at just over 30 minutes. Better than a 2, not really a 3. I will round up.

Hm...sounds like something that should be on Dazed and confused. For a band I'd never heard of I really liked their sound. Iconic 70s rock. The vocals reminded me of the intro song to Freaks and Geeks. I wonder why they aren't more well known.

Super jeu de mot les mecs bravo, pour la musique on repassera.

Tired glam rock from some of the ugliest men from the black country - and that's saying something. The songs are meant to be fun and rock at the same time - it just sounds dated. Nostalgic purely for the singles that were played while I was growing up but more of a curio than anything. Best Tracks: Gudbye T'Jane; Mama Weer All Crazee Now; I Don't Mind

Soa só muito clássico, sei la, genérico talvez. Até agora Move Over é a melhorzinha. Eu estou na metade e não aguento mais. Eu escutei a versão extendida no Spotify e ficou mais legal no final, 2.5

Glam Rock generally ends up being way better than I expect--I am not sure why I don't have a better association with it. It's cheesy, but all music is. This album is a lot of fun, it's stomping and it rocks.

Quiet Riot covered a couple of their songs, so that’s the main reason I even heard of this band. They did have a hit in the 80s in the USA with Run Runaway. I can definitely hear why some have compared them to T. Rex, with a little more heavy edge. It isn’t bad…. 3/5

Slade har jo min favorittjulesang, så dei skal få litt goodwill i dag

Slay 💅

Nothing complicated, just good, solid, fun rock n' roll. A little bit glam, a little bit power pop, a little bit heavy metal. The vocals are a bit too AC/DC-ish to me (I realize this was before AC/DC, but I just mean that sort of feel), but overall this is a fun ride. Side note - the guy on the right has what could possibly be the worst haircut in rock n' roll history. 3 stars.

Neither heavy metal nor Zeppelin-style blues noodling. Better than Status Quo and T-Rex. Fun like AC-DC but with less memorable riffs. Great raw guitar tone. High 3

I like the harsh vocals, I definitely prefer the less shouty tracks that still keep that energy. I liked this album a lot more as it went on, the early tracks I feel give a different impression to the back end.

I thought this was pretty okay, nothing really dates it so that it sounds like from the 70s so that was pretty nice.

I mean, they're fine but I'm surprised they made this list.

Never heard a Slade album but familiar with some of their 70s hits. Blues rock akin to some 60 Stones. Noddys vocals grate a bit. Couple of hits on the second side. Not that bad really.

It's early Slade. Nothing much to say. You can hear it's them, but there is no fireworks.

Some fun glam, unsurprisingly missing substance.

You slay, girl. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I like the vibe, but I really don't like this thin-ass papery production. Great energy throughout, some mild fun number - Mama We're All Crazee Now, Gudbuy T'Jane. But man, that production sounds so bad. And none of this really, really digs in for me.

Uncomplicated knockabout fun from Noddy, Superyob et al. Through the lens of nostalgia Slade are often viewed as fairly cartoonish figures, but this is harder and meatier than I expected. Not much to say - switch you brain off and get your toe-tapping to this brawling, slightly lumpen clutch of rockers.

Fun enough, innit? Don't know if you guys listened to the expanded version, but there's a track that's a weird sort of promo where they play a little of a song and then have guys from the band send their hearty thanks out to the readers of Melody Maker. And then they play a little more music. And then another guy gets on and gives his thanks. And so forth. Kind of cool and you can hear what is clearly the sound of vinyl/needle cracks - which means this is a recording of a recording? Not sure how that would've worked, but it's a fun inclusion from a bygone era. Certainly not everything here works, but I quite liked "I Don't Mind" which I had never heard before. It's funny though, this dude's voice - it's so distinctive that now I feel like Quiet Riot not only owes their commercial success to this band and the song "Cum on Feel the Noize," but that they also simply wouldn't exist without this band. Anywho, enjoyed it!

Kinda bra!

Interessante: glam rock di una band a me sconociuta

Slade's third album. They are from England Genre: Hard rock, glam rock Singles: ------------------------------------- Mama Weer All Crazee Now (#1, UK, 76 USA) Gudbuy T' Jane (#2, UK, #68 USA) Let the Good Times Roll (#114, USA) From the Bonus Material: Cum on Feel the Noise (#1 UK, #98 USA) Skqueeze Me Pleeze (#1 UK) Take Me Back Ome (#1 UK, #97 USA) Other (good) tracks: The Whole World's Goin' Crazee, Look at Last Nite, Move Over, I Don't Mind, Let the Good Times Roll 3/5

My first taste of Slade besides Merry Xmas Everybody and Cum on Feel the Noize. I didn’t realise their penchant for misspelling spread throughout their entire catalogue - mildly irritating. After the first couple of tracks I dismissed them as one trick ponies, but I soon discovered they had *two* tricks; I much preferred the slower, brooding stompers to the Quo-esque rock’n’rollers. Not inspired, but they would’ve be fun band to see live in a rowdy bar, I imagine.

This album being actually pretty damn good feels like a glitch in the matrix. During multiple points I was like "yeah, I like it so far, but they'll DEFINITELY drop the ball on this next song!" ... and they never did. They did in fact slay. Strong 3/5 in the music department, but horrible spelling. See me after class.

Slade are good fun 70s rock and roll, this album has a couple of blinders but the rest of it is middle of the road stuff. Still enjoyable though.

Feels pretty standard 70s music, nothing special.

Is this where “alright alright alright” originated?

More fun than I thought, although their spelling is atrocious (tee hee). Probably won’t listen to it again, but it was easy enough on the ears. They are more than just ‘that’ Christmas song and ‘Mama, we’re all crazee now’ is a classic. I think what I’ve always liked about Slade, whenever I’ve seen them on television playing or in an interview, is just they always seemed to be having a good time. I know that’s not the whole story - they’ve had problems like most bands but during their heyday their glee was manifest.

I don't want to be mean but these guys look like Neanderthals. Their music is pretty mediocre too. 5/10

Interesting predecessor to a lot of better bands? Favorite song mama weer crazy or whatever it's called

This was basically Led Zeppelin crossed with a really early version of hair metal and it was whatever. It was energetic and fun enough I guess but nothing super interesting or enjoyable.

better than expected but still pretty generic meat'n'potatoes stompers from the glam rock AC/DC. bonus tracks are terrible

A bit less shouting and a bit less lacking in the hair metal promise would have been nice.

Not hard enough to be metal, but too much screaming to be rock. Kinda like Aerosmith a little, but not as good.

Garbage. Oh wait… they’re English. RUBBISH.

Mama Weer All Crazee Now

One of those albums where I tapped my foot along with it sporadically and then when it was over couldn't remember anything memorable.

On a long string of 2s that may have been the worst

Ok I know there are super fans of them out there. Like hearing this for the first time I was going, "I have questions. Who legitimately enjoys this? Why?" It's not that it's bad, it just like they are trying to sound like the most average band in the 70's. Like they listened to Zeppelin went we can do this, and no one told them you need to be, charming, or have talent. It's like that band in high school, they weren't bad but they sounded like whatever band was popular at the time and that was it. So yeah, why is this on the list? I'm supposed to hear the most middle of the road rock band before I die? Come on!

wut wuz dat??

There are brief decent moments on this, but for the most part it's simplistic, adolescent junk. Think Motley Crew.

There's a bunch of reviews comparing them to ACDC, which i can sort of here. Alas, I was never a fan of ACDC.

It was fine. Song titles are dumb as hell. Not moved by anything here, but it certainly rocks along.

why do i need to hear this before my demise?? it was fun and groovy tho

‘One of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll releases ever’? Really? From the title to the cover to the outfits, Dave Hill’s ludicrous hairdo, the crazee spelling and Noddy Holder’s raucous below it’s all a bit naff. That one hit is quite good though

Need more UK rock albums

Man if you’re going to put glam rock on this list it should at the very least be GOOD. You know, that one necessary criteria? This is polished but boring as hell.

This album does not respect the notion of quality over quantity. None of it is necessarily bad, but why am I listening to this exactly? It's not particularly special in any way, feels like filler.

Gonna have to come back and give this a fair shake, I was deeply distracted listening to this one actively mixing audio for a video. I’ll give it a place holder three til I can come back but absolutely nothing stood out here. Okay I gave it it's time, this is ACDC wanna be garbage and it's all bad. Saving it from a 1 is like a riff or two that I liked.

Second half saved it from being a 1, the first half was just tragic.

Not really my kind of rock and roll. Sonically inoffensive, but everything just kind of blended together.

Бодренький рок, но не более того

Didn't really enjoy this much just sounded like a worse ac/dc. "Gudbuy Gudbuy" was fine

meh vaag

This band kind of feels like a knockoff led Zeppelin, but nowhere near as heavy.

Nothing that good about this this one. Pop hard rock

there were some bangers and there were some songs I was agitated by the stupid and unnecessary yelling

If he would just clear his throat, he wouldn't have to sound like that. Throw-away lyrics. Trying too hard to be fun and failing.

Sillee and stoopid.

Maybe this was new and exciting at the time? Now it just sounds generic, like quite a bit in this list so far.

Decent 70s rock. Was today’s years old when I learned “Cum on feel the noize” by Quiet Riot was a cover song. It’s not on this album, but I did not know that

Kind of generic early 70's rock with an awful lot of self promotion in the later tracks. I didn't realize these guys wrote the only song I know by Quiet Riot.

It may be the "Seinfeld isn't funny" effect on display, but any rebelliousness or edge this album may have possessed has well and truly been lost in 2026. What's left is only the very blandest of rock and roll. Also, I'm sorry, but if you enjoy "The Whole World's Goin' Crazee" unironically, I don't think we can ever talk music. That shit was dire.

whatever.

Oh I do not like this at all. "The Whole World's Goin' Crazee" is one of the least pleasing songs I've ever heard. I smiled when it finished, not 'cause it happened. The album is Glam Rock at its worst. Contains the same elements as other, far more successful bands, but not superlative enough to stand out. Just unattractive grunt-singing and not great voices. They may have been pioneers or something like that, but they are far from being good.

I went to college with a guy name Stone Slade.

(43/100)

Taký hardrockový rock&roll.

While this did not fall to the level of “I actively disliked listening to this album,” there was nothing here that moved the needle in a positive way. Lyrics were repetitive, vocals were borderline unpleasant, drums weren’t anything special. Some fun guitar parts, but nothing I haven’t heard a better version of dozens of times elsewhere.

Audio was terrible on Spotify.

Pretty generic rock.

I really can't take this vocal style

Fairly average early 70s glam rock. Feels like a precursor to 80s hair metal. It not bad but also not deserving of being on the list.

In a nutshell: if AC/DC made a glam album. Overall: 3/10

Previously unknown. Dumb fun.

Slayed? Yes, my interest was slain pretty quickly.

Not very enjoyable to me. I learned while listening to this slog that Come On Feel the Noize was a Slade cover. I never liked Quiet Riot and now I know they were a glam rock mimic of another glam rock band I don't particularly like.

It was okay. Some decent songs but most kinda corny

Not bad, but also not super great. Sometimes a bit repetitive up to annoying

It was average 70s hard rock

Raucous glam rock and hard rock built on crunchy guitars, stomping rhythms, and loud, gritty, shout-along vocals barrels forward with rowdy energy. Listening feels like being in a crowded pub where everyone is shouting the same chorus over pounding speakers. Unfortunate the noise and its simplicity feel repetitive.

So these are the guys responsible for Quiet Riot?

What if Spinal Tap was not funny.

I don’t mind glam rock it’s entertaining if a bit shallow. But the only reason this is on the list is the ridiculous English bias on this list.

Yeah no. I was quite fond of Slade as a teenager. Not this album specifically. Can't remember why now though, listening to it.

2.5 - Meh

In a world where there are bands that do what Slade do better than Slade, there is no need ro listen ro Slade. I don't mind this album, I just don't see a reason ro listen to it on purpose.

Good but, not my favorite genre

Boring, a bit like George Harrison’s solo work if it was bad. Should’ve stuck to Christmas songs

Not for me

Was it excruciating? No. Was it interesting or memorable? Also no. And the misspelling is annoying. And that haircut...

Didn't listen to it all but...idk man

Not a fan of the music and not sure why. There is mixing sounds of Beatles style mixed with 80s power ballads. Music feels loud but none of the songs jumped out to me personally

TIL that Quiet Riot was a Slade cover band. I heard this album back in the 80s when quiet Riot copied them - screeching, rabid guitars, etc. There are some good musical ideas but they get lost in Noddy Holder’s nails-on-chalkboard voice. Hard pass.

Key phrases on loop Favourite track: Let the Good Times Roll

Just a bit samey

Too associated with that Christmas nonsense. Every song sounds like it. Noddy Bellend.

who tf made this list come on

I’m sure the drugs said that making this album was a good idea. Boorish, thrusting, spandex-clad glam rock at its most vacuous. Listening to this was like the comedown without the high. 2 stars. Could very nearly be one.

These guys look and sound like four cavemen that stumbled out of the ruins of Stonehenge and decide to mayk sum rokk n role, baybee. On a different day, maybe I would view this as a positive. Not today.

Yeah! It alright! Songwriting is nothing to write home about, musicianship is what's expected. Nothing special, the album is fine. It's "cruisin around" rock for sure. Tracks 3 and 9 stand out as well written and something I may put on an mp3 player separate from the rest of the record. Most interesting part are the vox, the harmonies are usually the classic arp stack and the lead singer's voice is unique in a good way. I'm not sure I needed to hear this album before I died though, and I kinda guessed what a good portion of it sounded like with a look at the cover. It's a 2 because of those two tracks being the only standouts, but I'm tempted to knock it up to 3 because it's SHORT AND SWEET. Let's hear it for short albums that show up and do their bit the best they can, and then gfto. That said though, it still slogged a little between those 2 standout tracks despite the shorter run time, so it'll stay at 2.

Yet more english dad rock. I though there was something fun at the start, but it truly didn't last. I like the drumming, but the vocals were samey, and if i wanted to listen to things that sound like this, I have better options.

Forgettable dad rock, sorry

I had to Google how long the original length album was when my streaming provider gave me the extended version. Fortunately this made it short enough for me to tolerate it. A grating voice and little on the lyrical intelligence wouldn't have let me cope with much more.

Like most of the albums on this list if you like 70's rock you will more than likely enjoy this album. Not my cup of tea but I made it though a majority of album.

This just felt totally pointless. Nothing interesting and every element of it feels like something another band has done better. Was so bored of it by the end. Doesnt feel important or influential in any way

I don’t care for this. I likes I don’t mind

It’s an 80s rock record. Not great, and I’m offended by the spelling of some of the songs. What are we doing here. 1.5/5.0

I didn't know the band who sang Merry Christmas everybody were also a very generic rock band but you learn something new everyday I guess

It's very glam. Not really my jam.

What is this doing in this list? I feel like a lot of also-rans from England end up in this list. Not essential. I guess fine for glam rock/proto hair metal, but I don't care about listening to this again.

- Wow, that second song is so annoying. - We had to hear this? Why? The vocals feel like Temu Zeppelin + AC/DC with awful lyrics. And what was with the annoying spelling of these words, like "Mama weer all crazee now"? "Gudbuy T'Jane" (oh, and pedo-coded lyrics in there, to boot)? Huge eye roll. - This music is basically ripping off a bit of everything... even the Beatles. There are some okay songs, but it's super unmemorable as a whole, and I will never reach for this again, and will probably leave if someone puts it on. - The guitar playing is pretty good (or just gud?) when you can hear it through the fuzz of everything, I guess.

Feels like a cross between early Queen and T. Rex with a markedly worse vocalist. Thanks but no thanks. Regardless of any musical content, THAT is one of the worst album covers I've ever seen in my life. I don't know who approved dude on the right's ability to walk around shirtless and with that haircut, but they should be questioned. I don't want to think it's affecting my interpretation of the music, but it's a sensory nightmare. I can smell this picture and it's not pleasant.

this was ok, probably won’t listen again tho felt a bit too generic for me

This is #day544 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I've seen this record cover before, but I never really had a reason to listen to it. Well, here I am. I get the context, the '70s, glam rock, and all that, but... Guess I'm just not slayed enough? This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day545.

Likes: Easy to listen to when they find a groove that works; guitar has some fun moments Dislikes: very repetitive; lacks substance in both lyrics and music; bass is very McCartney-esque, and it doesn’t align with what the band is doing most of the time; tracks drag and would benefit from being sped up to liven them up Overall, feels like an all filler, no killer effort. Having “Cum On Feel The Noize” and not putting it on the record feels like a ripoff

bissl lame leider

Sounds fairly generic. Singer’s voice bothers me a little.

borringgggggggg

Sumbudy dont spel to gud.

Pretty good. There were one or two familiar bangers in there but I wouldn’t revisit the entire album

I've been listening to this album and its fine, glam rock and fun, but didn't knock my socks off or anything. Then they played a clip of Come On Feel The Noise and i thought well thats odd. I thought that was from the late 70s or 80s with quiet riot. Turns out no, it was these guys. Then I realized this album is from 1972. Talk about being ahead of the curve.

2/5 It was okay. A bit boring and samesy, but it wasn't terrible.

not memorable but not horrible

very basic

Like I kinda enjoyed this in a weird way when I know I shouldn’t for whatever reason. Still wouldn’t come back to this but it just reminds of a dirty dive bar and I like that.

Just a terrible album

For an album with this amount of energy I did not feel very excited or interested in what they put together

4.5/10 Diz iz stoopid

Good fun and a few rocking anthems. Difficult to see why these get a free pass and status quo have a bad rep. Cut from the same cloth. Meh

I thought I recognized this horrible mediocrity - it's the Cum on Feel the Noize guys!

Du rock

Slade on this record are giving shades of AC/DC if they lacked the same level of punch. There's a lot that is okay about this album, but I just don't find it that interesting - the songwriting & lyrics lack depth, the production feels dated and I don't feel the ‘swagger’ in this album that many reviewers seem to. There's also a lot of similar guitar riffs, which gets tedious as the album progresses. It's a 5/10 album for me, not terrible but not particularly memorable.

These guys sound like you had A.I listen to a classic rock station for 500 hours and told it to make it's own song. Nothing really interesting or creative. A few songs where you could hear a Beatles influence. The closest to a compliment I can give it. 3/10

Some people really shouldn't sing, and this guy is definitely on that list. However, I'm sure this guy inspired a whole generation of talentless hair metal singers. All of their songs are just a 2 second chorus that repeats for 3 minutes (especially how d'you ride). This album was a chore to get through. Mid 2.

middle of the road for me. Neither bad nor good. 2.5* rounded down

I know that Slade was very popular in the 70s and honestly trying to put myself in the moment. But I don’t really see (or hear, rather) what’s the big deal. If this band was playing in a local pub, I’d have a good time listening to them - but there just isn’t a lot more than that here. I guess I can credit them for being an influence to a band like AC/DC or hair metal? When thinking about other music out at the time, this is utterly unremarkable stuff though. It is musically basic and uninteresting. I didn’t even find it very hooky. This is a miss for me.

Early 80s glam rock - reminds of Quiet Riot. I suppose the word ‘fun’ comes to mind but not something I’d reach for or want to put on regularly. In this regard 2/5.

I didn't hate it all, there's some catchy tunes but it's not for me. It's just the Christmas song band, soz

Really odd album. A couple of absolutely great tracks and a load of dross. No real quality control.

every song sounds the same

Oh, put on your clothes and shut up

- Sits somewhere between Humble Pie and early AC/DC. - For God's sake, do not take a drink every time he says "Crazee". - They're not actually "crazee", just English-eccentric. - Slade is best at being the source material for better performances by other artists. - Speaking of which, does this list include "Metal Health" by Quiet Riot? It should. It's a great album from a band that reached it's peak after losing their most musically proficient member, the legendary Randy Rhodes. And RIP Kevin DuBrow. - I'm beginning to think that I just don't like Glam-Rock. - Was Slade the Andrew WK of their day?

I've never been able to put a finger on it, but Slade just annoys me

2 stars, kept a couple songs. 1/5 didn’t finish the album 2/5 didn’t keep the album 3/5 kept it and will listen when songs randomly show up on shuffle 4/5 kept it and will listen to it again front to back on my phone 5/5 buying the vinyl

The music is generic rock, maybe a little punk if punk had existed at this point. Nothing special, but not bad either. The vocals range from ok to fingernails on a chalkboard annoying, though.

Not my thing

Early 70s UK glam rock/hard rock. It reminded me a lot of AC/DC but with worse vocals, and they sounded like they were the predecessors of 80s hair metal. It was an okayish listen, even fun here and there but then I realised it's not an album I should listen to before I die, and I didn't enjoy it.

seventies british rock - nothing more.

Not really my thing, although I do respect that they wrote some powerhouse hits that other bands covered much more successfully. Still, nothing on this album blew me away or made me say these guys deserve to be on this list.

Initial thoughts when this popped up were that in period Slade was something I regarded as a bit of a 'novelty band', with a penchant for song titles that mangled the English language, and that if it wasn't for a certain Christmas anthem they would have been long forgotten. Then I remembered that I rather liked 'Far, Far Away' (possession of the single may have been 'a guilty secret' [I am admitting nothing]) and was disappointed to see it wasn't on 'Slayed?'. Oh, well. I should listen to it and not work on preconceptions. Thing is this is 'OK'. I mean it's not awful. The songs are well enough done. It sort of hangs together as an album. The production is... well, it clips and distorts (and not in a good, Jimi Hendrix style distortion way) at times. It's 'OK' though. It's an 'OK' album. It has no place on a list like this. Neither does Slade to be honest. Did I enjoy it, well... sort of. If I was in a pub for a night out and the band played this, I wouldn't walk out. 2/5. That seems cruel as 'It's Christmaaaaasssss' but yeah. postscript: Memories of 'Far, Far, Away' sent me off in search and I landed on 'Slade in Flame'. Now, if THAT had been the album on this list it would have been 4/5.

I’m sure these guys were once considered the maddest lads in Wolverhampton on a Friday night, acting all crazee and shirtless... but half a century later, it’s hard not to chuckle at how tame and corny this all sounds. I’d probably enjoy seeing them live in a pub ; other than that, it’s barely listenable. I'm not sure what they bring to this list, considering bands like Mott the Hoople and T Rex are much more interesting specimens of the British glam / proto hard-rock scene. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous cover art, which looks like a promo shot for an unreleased Guy Richie movie about a gang of small-town reprobates with dubious pastimes, terrible teeth and hilariously British nicknames. I didn't hate it, there’s even a couple of fun riffs here and there, but overall I really can’t take this very seriously. 3/10

A bit guff

It’s not bad, but it is fairly uninspired and kind of bland. Hard to distinguish from other bands of that era. Must have been relevant for the list creator. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Honestly couldn’t get through this glam rock ac/dc sounding stuff. Maybe I’ll give it another go eventually but this was just not it for me.

Not bad! Get down and get with it is sweet

Has dated

Did Slade slay on Slayed? no. Nothing memorable about this album or band... Would I listen to again? I might have to listen again, because I can't remember one song from the album. Maybe I fell asleep?

I’m not sure if Slade are thought of a little bit differently outside of the UK, but it’s the only explanation I have for their inclusion. If I could give it a 1.5* I would - but I’ve heard worse, so 2* it is.

Mediocre, unlist worthy with poor spelling gets a rounded up 2

Doesn't get much more middle of the road than this: it's even a mid point between glam and metal, lacking the swagger of either. There's some solid guitar work though and, at their best, a hint of actual rock attitude: the last three tracks are the best. Passable background music, nothing more.

I always forget how big an influence Slade were on Oasis. I really enjoyed the glam drums of 'Good Times' but the rest mostly made me think of Christmasses past.

Of its time. The unique thing about them is Noddy Holder’s voice, which is also the worst thing about them, they seem to be a decent bunch of musicians held back by that screaming banshee of a man.

In 1972 there are probably 20 bands in the UK alone that are 10 times better than this, and in the world probably 50-60. So why is this piece of mediocrity on this list?

Filed in the "this has no place in this list" bucket.

It tried. A little too hard.

No thank you

Not my thing.

I'm embarrassed I hadn't heard of them, much less that they wrote "Cum on Feel the Noize" (hard to type). Still, somewhat obvious why they didn't make it in the USA, as the bass lines veer too often into "Spinal Tap" territory.

This album was fine. Clearly took inspiration from my least favorite elements of 60s rock and roll and added harsh vocals over it. I don't have anything against harsh vocals, but this wasn't it. There were a couple of good songs, but I disliked about 80% of the album.

I guess I'm not sure what makes this particularly special, but I didn't dislike the experience of listening to it.

Record Exec: 'Hey guys it was a brilliant idea to spell all the titles of your songs like you're stupid!' Slade: 'Yeah. Totally. We did that on purpose. Totally.' Is this the worst rock album ever made? No. Is it in the running for the worst? Yeah maybe. Bad production, bad recording, decent instrumentation, just absolutely god-awful vocals, some of the worst lyrics of all time. But should you expect genius from the guys that brought us 'Cum On Feel The Noise'? No, no you shouldn't. This almost has no redeeming qualities. There is some good guitar and bass to be found. But the production is just abysmal. Terrible balance and the (awful) vocals are fighting with the music the whole time. Can't say I'm a fan of this one and I would never listen to it again. 2/5

Getting Big Star vibes. Nothing resonating with me on first listen. Agreed with other reviews that this would be good background in a dive bar.

They don't even deserve a review

Sucked?

Bad Rolling Stones impression.

2. so dated

I will say one thing immediately, I said read the band name and said the album title out loud unknowingly and then laughed. Thats the most enjoyment I think I got though, overall it’s just whatever. At least it wasn’t the one with Surrender (though it shows up in the background at the end), the song is no good in the original or when Cheap Trick badly covered it.

This hit #1 in the UK charts?! You could've fooled me. The vocal echo effect usually doesn't work with any singer, but it's especially bad here. It completely masks what little melody we have to work with (as a listener), and the quality goes from a decent emulation of Roger Taylor (or 70s Robert Plant) to an ear-shattering mess. The song The Whole World's Goin' Crazee is the best (or worst) example of the absolutely horror show that is the singing. Mama Weer All Crazee Now is also pretty bad. Gudbuy T'Jane is a great track with a stupid name – even more stupid when you notice it's followed by the poetically christened Gudbuy Gudbuy. But both are passable, and I found myself nodding my head a bit. In general, this band's groove is the best part, and it's just okay. The guitar has a fun distortion that's just about the most clichéd for its time (1972). It's as far from groundbreaking as you can get. The lyricism is terrible too, and I say that as somebody who pays little heed to lyrics unless they're very obviously bad. I selected a random song and picked a random lyric from it, and this is what turned up: "Here's nothing like the feeling / When the sound is getting wild / You're jumping up and dancing on the seats / The whole world's goin' crazee / Crazee crazee crazee crazee crazee" And another: "She's a queen / Can't you see what I mean / She's a queen / See, (see) see, she's a queen / And I know she's alright, alright, alright, alright / I say you're so young, you're so young" (Hmm.) 2/5 Key tracks: Look at Last Nite, Move Over, Gudbuy T'Jane

hard to listen to and stupid choice for this list

Eh. 2.5

Hard rock or metal? That is the question. I'm picking up more of a hard rock energy from this album cover. Metal album covers are usually level-headed and have the band positioned at eye level, whereas the condescending sneer of this album cover is more of a hard rock thing. Hard rock. I'm a genius. The vocals are pretty strange for this style of music - they're erring a little on the sickly side of shrill as opposed to the usual freaky shrillness. The instrumentals are standard hard rock fare, though with a little bit of a blues influence. I didn't feel too strongly for any of these songs, though there's some competent bits. "Look at Last Nite" has a nice vocal melody and some decent instrumentation, especially with those bassy guitars and clashing cymbals. "Move Over" is decent. A very gripping chorus, and the lead melody is pretty good. "Gudbuy T'Jane" is vaguely familiar. The song is a surprising shift from the previous tracks. The vocals have a cool confidence to 'em, and the guitar riffs are immensely gratifying. Book time. Had a lot of chart-topping singles from around the time of this album. "...what they did was not revolutionary, or even that new". Okay. Ya losin' me, Dimery. "...but they did it so well and with such aplomb that three decades later they are now affectionately ingrained in the fabric of British popular culture." Yeah, I think this can do with a good old fashioned snubbing. In place of this album, I humbly submit Halcali Bacon for inclusion on the list.

Bar room blues sped up. Noddys got a great voice but little innovation good retreads poor man’s zep poor man’s Beatles.

There are a couple of songs that stand out but overall it doesn't really belong on this list TBH.

I listened to Michael Jackson's Thriller right before listening to this and I'm not sure if this was terrible compared to Thriller or if it was just bad. It's probably both.

Most songs meld together into generic early rock fare, rather boring

I wanted to like this but sadly did not much :(

very little on this album is interesting to me. if I think about this one later, it's most likely going to be because of the gimmick of deliberately misspelling track names. I guess they did "Cum On Feel the Noize" but, like how I've waited through two Dexys Midnight Runners albums for "Come On Eileen," it's not here nipple note: this album cover is actually kind of funny but the man on the right absolutely should not have been allowed to take his shirt off

I listened to this yesterday and remember nothing from it

Glam rock for sure, and relatively obscure, haha. The album isn't bad but nothing stand out about it so far. It was indeed an album.

There’s a couple tracks on here I did really enjoy, but overall I don’t think this album is for me, mostly because their singing is incredibly grating to me. You can definitely feel their influence on the hair metal scene, which I’m not sure is necessarily a good thing in my eyes (or ears, I guess).

No private session used for Spotify. I know Slade, but never have listened to an album until now. There is no arguing the impact Slade had on rock and making it more commercial. That being said, I don't think I will listen to this again..that last track alone was a bit too annoying.

Average

Opening track is the most boring bland basic 70s rock track I’ve just about ever heard, even has the quintessential fade out. Second track as well, singing about being how they’re in a rock n roll band… Really the whole album just sounds so 70s and so dated so it was doomed to just not be my thing from the start. That being said it does have its “party-hard” and “essential classic” singles that I can get behind.

I kind of have an appreciation of what they were going for here (I think it's supposed to be fun and not taken very seriously (?)). I won't listen to it again though!

What in the rough and tumble is this? But no, not really too great, just blaring rock

Never heard this album before but I feel like I've heard it a hundred times
