I did not expect this
A drug-fuelled, sweaty pick up truck is where I first laid my ears on this doozy of a record. For all their obvious limitations, Slade succeed at providing a mad house of fun and chaos that leaves its listeners feeling rather crazee indeed. An immature firecracker of joy that made my knickers as wet as your mum's cock-hungry pussy.
Slade e kinda nice wid it?!
This is like AC/DC but way more swag
this one one me over. I hated the first few tracks for being exactly the same, but grew to enjoy the rougher AC/DC glam/hair rock honky tonk blues here. guessing the non-expanded edition is a tighter experience overall. 4/5
These lads can’t spell to save their lives, but they sure know how to write ‘em. Let the good times roll, indeed.
Pretty good. Surprising. Sounded a bit like zeppelin
Rock n roll
great classic rock album
"Slayed?" by Slade is an album that truly lives up to its name - it's a raucous, energetic, and downright fun rock and roll romp that had me tapping my feet from start to finish. Overall, I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 rating. One of the standout features of the album is the band's infectious energy. From the opening track "How D'You Ride" to the closing "The Whole World's Goin' Crazee," Slade's raw, unbridled enthusiasm is palpable. The songs are catchy and memorable, with singalong choruses and earworm riffs that will stay in your head long after the album is over. Another strength of "Slayed?" is the band's musicianship. The members of Slade are skilled musicians, and they showcase their talents throughout the album. There's some impressive guitar work on tracks like "The Bangin' Man," while "Look at Last Nite" features a driving drum beat that propels the song forward. One of the things that sets "Slayed?" apart from other rock albums of the era is the band's sense of humor. From the tongue-in-cheek lyrics of "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" to the irreverent cover art, Slade doesn't take themselves too seriously. This lightheartedness adds to the album's overall charm and makes it a joy to listen to. If I had to nitpick, I would say that there are a few tracks on the album that don't quite measure up to the rest. "Gudbuy T'Jane" and "I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen" are both decent songs, but they lack the same spark of some of the album's other tracks. Overall, "Slayed?" by Slade is a fantastic rock and roll album that still holds up today. With its catchy hooks, driving beats, and irreverent sense of humor, it's a true classic of the genre. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the band's music, "Slayed?" is definitely worth a listen.
Fun album
Wish Led Zeppelin 3 4
7/10 pretty fun, certainly enjoyable, but a tad cringe
Surprisingly interesting - genuine band here and not just novelty songs.
If Axl Rose wasn’t listening to this, then I think my ears aren’t working. Also, Dave Hill is what Nicholas Hoult would look like if he played for a glam rock band in the 1970s. All of the fritterances aside, this album was completely unknown to me, as was this album. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
Not bad, a bit samey but fun to listen to
Hard rock or glam rock? I thought the band was heavy metal or hard rock, but it turns out that they’re actually glam rock. Although I’m not sure what image they are trying to convey on their album cover. Makes me think a little bit of Måneskin. And Queen. I went into the listen thinking I would rate this album a 2. But I didn’t know I’d like it so much and now here we are. Or, here I am
The very first album I ever owned was gifted to me by my cousins in Lebanon. They had a copy of Sladest, which was a best-of album by Slade, and I was captivated by the look of the band — sure the long-haired guitarist was a woman... he had long hair, after all. I was so smitten, I still consider that album (I still have that vinyl LP) one of my all-time faves. Marianne and I went on a mini Slade tear not long ago. I don't remember what spurred it, but we watched some videos, and I just love how ridiculous these guys are. Totally having a ball, pretty freaking hilarious, reminded me why I hold them dear. When I spun this album the first time, I wasn't sure what to rate it. On one hand, I sincerely LOVE all the tracks that were included on the Sladest album (Gudbuy T'Jane, Look At Last Nite, Mama Weer All Crazee Now) but recognized the other material was sometimes difficult to listen to. I was leaning toward a 3-star rating. But I listened again (and even through to some of the material on the extended version) and I bumped that up to a 4. These guys are fantastic. Album is chock-full of Slade-itude.
Slay me! Maybe it’s because they teeter in that space between Spinal Tap and Led Zeppelin or maybe it’s because my husband loves them or maybe it’s because we’re all crazy now. But I dig Slade for all these reasons. They rock!
Super fun!
Can’t believe I’d never listened to these guys before
7/10. I liked this, reminded me a bit of Rush?
A solid, fun rock album. The Janis Joplin cover was a highlight for me.
Slade: not just for Christmas. Wizards and cheese rolled down the hill - notes of prog and the West Country, Nobby's voice a rare regional delicacy, even at full yell
Hard rock
hmmmm fine
смешное название альбома и песен, звук местами очень битловый (возможно просто качество записи), местами тяжеловато. особо не запомнилось)
An ok rock album. Not much to say on this honestly. Early 70s rock, ok vocalist, and a hilarious album cover.
Never heard of them, but great! What happened?
low expectations, didnt dissapoint, too long though, it turned into a point that all the songs were kind of repetitive. felt kinda like the beatles and rolling stones mixed up
Lo voy a escuchar
This could have come out at any point from the 60s to present. It's perfectly fine but I don't think I'd have missed anything not listening to it.
It's reasonably fine rock, nothing special one way or another.
Slade is not really for me. I get why they were popular back then - hard rock meets glam…
What if AC/DC was Rod Stewart? This was fine but not notable enough to revisit.
🪨
Was a bit worried when I read “party rock” but it’s actually nuanced, creative and diverse enough! Really enjoyed this album
Did I like this? No. Did I hate this? Noooo. It was just glam rock - boppy, fun, not my thing. But I spent a lot of it thinking "I've heard these guys, I'm sure of it". So I dug deeper, and they have a song "Merry Xmas Everybody". I will say that I much prefer hearing that in the local supermarket during the Christmas period than Mariah Bloody Carey. It wasn't on this album but thought I'd bring it up because I hate Mariah's Christmas songs and I'd much rather just hear Slade on repeat than another Mariah Carey Christmas carol ever. I have to rate this higher than Mott the Hoople so I'm bumping it to 3 stars but really it's a 2.5 for me.
Highlights: How D’You Ride, Look At Last Nite, Move Over, Gudbuy T’Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now 3.4
I used to be very keen on Slade, had three of their albums but not this one. It's classic Slade - raucous, rocking, a bit of boogie, focused on hooks. I was thinking I'd class it as hard rock, with glam in visuals only - but after listening I could agree the simplicity of vocals and presentation of hooks is a bit glam. I like that they cover Joplin's Move Over, released not long before this album came out. Generally I think it's fun. The intensity of Holder's singing is weird but iconic, I don't mind it too much. I still like to hear Mama Weer All Crazee Now, other tracks are okay but doesn't really meet replayability because it's too much to play a whole album through. So I'll say it's Okay, 6/10.
slayed? the jury is still out. slade? Of that there is no doubt
6.5/10 - Good album but none of the songs in particular got me, hence the lower review. Enjoyable to listen to but not enough to really grab you.
Not brilliant but listenable.
Quik fun. I like that there wuz a cover of Let the Good Times Roll, luv that song
Ridiculously funny (I’m sure that was not the intention and they take themselves very seriously)
This was ok. Not sure why it was on this list
It's not bad. Good rock but nothing that made me sit up and take notice.
Catchy and fun
Of all the 3s I’ve rated, this was the 3-est of them all.
It's a fun rock album although not really my taste in music.
70s glam happiness
A slightly odd mix of good time pop with Stones-ish rock and the occasional slice of blues. Lyrically it’s largely routine but with a bit of introspection layered in now and again.
Mixed 70s rock. Not sure I’ve heard of them before which is surprising given the raves but did not last!
50% bangers, 50% meh.
It was fine. It gave me something to listen to at the gym.
solid
More enjoyable than I expected. "Look at Last Nite" was quite good. Favorite track: Look at Last Nite
Slayed? Is a solid meat and potatoes rock album, in that it's not particularly interesting to talk about, but it manages to be enjoyable regardless. This is some early party hard rock, spiritually (and sometimes aesthetically) similar to the likes of AC/DC. It feels like this is best enjoyed while belligerently and publicly drunk, and that is not a state I often find myself in. But there are enough good songs here to pull this through regardless, Gudbuy Gudbuy, I Don't Mind, I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen, and more are really solid. And these songs are driven by simple, catchy riffs, and really good vocals. Noddy Holder brings an energetic, gruff, pitchy approach, and it honestly does make me think of Bon Scott a little. But Slade is pretty locked in here generally, and it shows, I had some fun.
always a single band for me
Pretty good sound, nothing too crazy imo
Can’t say it slayed. It wasn’t bad music, but definitely isn’t special enough to warrant a spot on this list.
In the grand circus of '70s rock, this band's tent feels familiar. There's no pyrotechnic burst, no unexpected flourish.. It's a competent performance, but it fails to capture my attention. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Look at Last Nite - Gudbuy T'Jane - Mama Weer All Crazee Now
It’s ok. Not bad
surprisingly nice
You got slayed!
Ganz ok!
Not as bad as I thought it would be. 2.5/5
Day867 - bonus points for having fun songs. deduct points for their spelling.
I’m a’a 3. This album’s big issue is its inability to separate itself from the base of each track; a great rock/metal band ala AC/DC can do something t’ keep a track memorable / energetic throughout. These tracks all just kinda find a peak and sit in it, making those peaks feel less effective. When the peaks are less effective & the tracks plateau too early in terms of their energy, the progression of each track just doesn’t really play well to the ears. Combine that with each of the 10 tracks here following the same formula in an overly safe way, and you end up with a hard rock album that just feels like it’s riding the coattails of its peers. I did like 7 of the tracks here, but I always kept noting that they just felt basic, whether lyrically or instrumentally. As a whole, I’m just not too crazee about this one. There’s really not much to say; if it clicks at a higher level, then good for you. For me, it just didn’t, as it never hit a higher gear in a way that stuck out. There’s no bad tracks, but I just don’t think it has anything very special going for it. Hence, a 3.
More enjoyable than I initially thought it would be. Wasn't super into the first half, but it really picks up in the second, starting with the really incredible cover of Janis Joplin's "Move Over." Overall, I had a good time listening.
I can absolutely see why Slade was such a huge band in the 70s. They could write a great straight-ahead rock song in their sleep. The glam influence makes it fun. Overall I really enjoyed this - except for the lead vocals. He has a good rock voice, but he tends to shriek a bit too much for my taste. It just gets so grating! If he was just a bit more chill, or was less of a one-trick pony vocally, this would be a solid four, but as it stands - THREE STARS
its fun
Not a big fan of the voice of the lead singer. The songs are pretty good, though. It’s right there between 3 and 4 stars, really.
Solid rock album!
Не надто приємний вокал, але вцілому музика нормальна
I was thinking this probably isn't getting a fair shake in 2026 when this clearly influenced so many other future bands. I then tried to place other albums before and after and noticed Led Zep released albums I-IV before this and they are timeless, so maybe it's influential but just not very good. 2.5/5, raising to 3.
Very interesting album. Great 70's sound but hard to tell each track apart from one another. Would recommend to friends that love that era of music.
dumbass album title. obnoxious as fuck absolute hard rock slop
2.5 - Not bad. This sounds like a ton of bands I've heard before, so it must have been super influential.
70s rock is often hit or miss for me and this is kind of a miss. The mixing sounds good and the distortion on the guitars feels classic rock. But the songs aren't catchy enough and I don't really want to listen to any of them again. I probably wouldn't turn this of if it started playing but I would never choose it either.
Rv
A bit too 70s rock for me with the live shout outs, but solid rock album
Was it good? Not really Did I enjoy it? Yeah a bit
Solid early hard rock, but nothing special.
eh 2.5 nothing great
What a pleasant surprise this one was! This era of early blues rock/Led Zeppelin ripoffs is interesting to look back on. I had to look these guys up and found out they made "Cum on Feel the Noize" (which tbh I always thought was a Quiet Riot song), and compared to this, I guess they've always been ahead of their time. The bass and drums are especially tight on these songs, and I like the singer's energy. This album has a little more character compared to some of the other releases of this era. I don't think I'll actively seek it out again, but it's a good background listen. Favorite track: Look at Last Nite
Solid glam rock
Standard high pitched yelling rock. Not bad.
I'd rather just hear AC/DC or Led Zeppelin. The voice also was a bit grating for me at times, maybe this album is just in need of a remaster.
I think this was alright, nothing too special but had some moments I liked. I had never heard of them before. 3 stars.
This actually ripped
Non-thinking man's The Who? Led Zeppelin lite? Fun arrangements, catchy rhythms and melodies, hooks everywhere. Pure entertainment. I wanted to dismiss this album as being derivative but found myself tapping my foot along. Like I would for a really good pub band.
The voice is just as gritty as the recoding quality - I love it. They show a great "I do my thing" attitude, but there were no highlights that really shook me.
An album that tastes like cigarettes and beer
Imagine Status Quo crashed an Oktoberfest, put on platform boots and glitter, and recorded everything by shouting into a bucket. That's Slade. The music underneath is actually fine — simple, stompy, unpretentious party rock. But Noddy Holder's vocals, compressed and doubled into some kind of glam rock choir from another dimension, are either the best or worst thing you've ever heard depending on your mood. Without the bucket singing I could see myself enjoying this at a Volksfest. With it — 3/5, and that's partly because at least something is happening, unlike tomorrow's album.
On the negative side, it's somewhat dumb party rock. (I'm no AC/DC fan either.) On the plus side, it's somewhat fun party rock. But still not much there to really catch my attention ("Look at Last Night" and "I Don't Mind" were pretty cool though). 2,5/5
slayed? absolutely slayed. this wasn’t on tidal so had to listen on youtube so that was a bit annoying but had a great time
It was alright, but didn't blow me away.
The cover photo really doesn't sell this band well. I had trouble sleeping after seeing the right-most dude's haircut. I also expected the music to be much more corny - a feeling I got directly from looking at the photo. The actual music wasn't too bad. What stands out to me is the singer. What a powerful voice. There's some pretty cool guitar playing at times as well, and I really like the tone of it. I can imagine this music being quite fun live, but as an album it just didn't stand out too much. The riffs and compositions just aren't memorable enough to me, even though the band's performance on each song is above average.
Ugliest cover in quite a while. Like, how did they think this was a cool cover? Why is one of them shirtless? Why is the picture so zoomed in, and why are they standing so close together? Is this the origin of the YouTube clip “Daft Hands,” with how they wrote the band name on their hands? Anyway, the album was surprisingly glam-rocky. It felt a bit like T. Rex in an alternative reality. I liked the tambourine, the guitar tones, and the vocals. Sadly, none of the songs really stood out to me. It sounds like the band has potential, which is also proven by them writing “Cum Feel the Noize.” It was a surprise to me that Quiet Riot didn’t do the original. A cool album, just lacking any real hits. Getting a 3-star rating.
2.75 rounding it up to a liiiiight three. The original “big in Japan” band. Most of the songs just kinda mush together. It’s not without its charms, though
Made me think of a lot of generic late 70s stuff. But I have to be charitable and imagine that's just the sound of the times or even them inspiring later bands, not them just being copycats. I was also impressed by the general breadth of sound they managed within that framework. All in all a really good listen. Except for whatever the heck that last stupid "thank you" track was.
Non male
Bra!
Cool album Best: Look At Last Nite, Gudbuy Gudbuy, I Don't Mind Worst: How D'you Ride
Never heard this band. Decent 70s Hard Rock
This is when I discover that there is more to Slade than that Christmas song and it ain't half bad.
I forgot I even knew this band. They were playing earlier than I realized as well.
I knew that Slade was pretty long in the game before their MTV-driven success in the mid-'80s. This was more like The Who or the Stones combined with Glam rock. Nice, but nothing breathtaking.
Put a shirt on, mate. A couple of surprisingly good songs but mostly forgettable bar band stuff.
They sometimes sound great, and a lot of the tracks have a cool riff. But it's all at the same 11.
It's not a bad album, but damn guys, being underrated/underrepresented in the conversation around influential 70s rock groups does not equal needing to hear it before I die. In my copy of this book from 2018, Slayed?'s entry says: "I could go on at length about the impact and influence this music had on musicians, groups, and scenes, but the music speaks for itself." Actually, I would like you to go on about what bands specifically mentioned being inspired by Slade. I think Slade is interesting as a kind of proto-hair metal, but I'm just not that impressed. If I was in the mood for this type of music, there's a handful of bands I'd rather listen to.
me gustó este glam. por alguna razón suena más sexy que otras bandas similares y eso me hace pensar que este grupo es uno de los primeros en incursionar en el genero. hay par de canciones que voy a usar en mi carrera de vedetto.
nice enough
a joyful trek back to the 70s/80s hair metal bands like Tesla, Cinderella that is just a fun time where concerts were fun and didn't cost a months salary. :) I also learned that Quiet Riot used this bands material to jump start their careers. I wasn't aware of Slade in my youth but if I had been they would've been in heavy rotation annoying my parents through my closed bedroom door without a doubt. Listen and just enjoy. Don't expect philosophical revelations just rock enjoyment from the decades of decadence.
What a haircut! A few on here I enjoyed quite a bit. The first track rocks.
Dang, pretty damn cool. Never heard of Slade before this, but ill be checking them out more broadly (slade alive! is up next). These guys are like the British, early 70s ac/dc. Love the rock n roll focus on getting the crowd involved. This is the kind of band Id go see if I had a time machine to the 70s Really liked the Joplin cover of Move Over and Gudbuy T’jane
Kind of catchy
Kinda fun
(4/7) as average as could be
Highlights: How D'You Ride, I Won't Let It 'Appen Again, Move Over, Gudbuy T'Jane, I Don't Mind Decent hard rock. Didn't blow me away but I liked it. The Move Over cover was a nice surprise. Sure is worth a revisit.
and slay they did!
Slade. This is the band that sang Cum On Feel The Noize, which is kind of a classic song and I think it's the only one that I know from them. Mixed feelings on this album. On one hand they really rock. There's a real upbeat, high energy, party style vibe to all of there songs that are great, like Andrew WK from the 70's. On the other hand, none of the songs have really grabbed me and they kinda come across as generic 70's rock band. It's so generic that I just lost my place on the album and despite just listening to a bunch of the songs, I have no idea where I left off. There's a reason why Andrew WK basically disappeared after the Party Hard album: because it's generic. It's a lot of fun, but after a few tracks, i'm good. Yes, I know he still makes music, but you don't hear much of anything about him unless you're seeking him out. And yes, I know he's married to Kat Dennings. So that's it. It's a great classic rock party album, but if you're looking for anything more, there's just not much else there imo. Good album for what it is.
I know these fellows have an importance and influence in the UK that never really carried over to this side of the Atlantic. It’s hard rocking glam, with some nice catchy riffs, not worlds apart from T Rex or Bowie in his glam era. Probably not something I’ll often revisit but it’s not bad either.
2.5
Trash but fun to listen to. Some heavier sounds than I was expecting. Slade are the also-rans of rock and roll, but kind of nice to see them on this list if for no other reason than the absolute bafflement they cause to Americans and non-Brits, and it's not like this list doesn't have more questionable inclusions anyway.
A bit long and a bit generic
This album, in all aspects, is pretty much as basic as they come. That being said, I have a weak stop for playful, energetic music, and on that front, this album definitely delivers. Again, there’s nothing to write home about, but it definitely delivers a fun time. 7/10
6/10
Pretty fun.
6/10… glam rock / proto punk / *1972
Some ganche on her tried to claim that Slade made the worst ever Christmas song. Everyone knows Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses is the worst Christmas song, and quite possibly the worst song full stop. Fuck that song.
Nettes Album. Klingt wie Sweet.
Very samey over a full album. Like them though.
I was literally reading an extract of King Lear before this, going from sophisticated Shakespearian English to Slades shit spelling is an eyefuck. Also Slade kinda piss me off cuz my favourite band is the band Suede and the names sound very similar so I never know what one people are talking about. But… it’s just normal hard rock with a screechy voiced singer 3/5
Not bad! Aggressively British. Pretty much how you’d expect this era of UK rock to sound.
More like 3 and a half
I've heard all about Slade from DH who is a huge AC/DC fan and told me about them asking Noddy Holder to be their lead singer after Bon Scott died. After listening to this album, I can understand why he was asked since he would've fit right in with AC/DC. This album is fine. It's definitely a product of the 70's.
I should have realized this was going to be glam and campy based on the play between the band and album names. Honestly, I had a good time with their lack of seriousness because Slade just had fun. The songs are silly and go hard! Slayed is glam but has a punk feeling, too. Maybe this album isn't worthy of being here, but I at least had a good time.
I didn't really find this to be anything special, but I was a sucker for the general glammy hard rock sound of it all. Probably about a 2.5 that I'd round up to a 3.
Power glam rock, most of it is fairly generic. There are a few great tunes, they do a good job on the cover songs. I really didn't like Noddy's singing style, pretty grating after the first couple songs. I do think they ended the album on a high note with 3 decent tracks. I don't think this is something I would go back to for replay, just stream the few songs that I enjoyed.
Solid rock album. Good band and singer. Definitely an influence on 80s American hair bands.
A rock solid 70s rock album with a handful of standout tracks. I don't know how often I'd return to this over lots of other stuff in the genre, but this was a lot of fun.
The guy on the right on the album cover is making me laugh. Nothing to write home about this one. Coulda died without it.
This was some pretty generic 70's rock. Not really bad but wasn't great. Meh 3.
Idk it had some bad ones and some good ones, fav might be “Candidate”
Overall, high energy good sound, but found the vocals grating on several songs and a few became too monotonous with the lyrics. Faves were Look at Last Night and GB to Jane.
No bad songs but nothing to get too excited about either. Reminds me of a British Aerosmith.
Triple blind. I liked it. I had to glance at the year on the album because it definitely sounds more 80s than you'd think. Clearly an influence on hair metal bands. Good listen.
Overall the album was pretty average. Hard to tell if the band was influential or if they were overly influenced. Either way, other bands have done it better
Felt like Proto ACDC. not bad, but better acts would build on this sound better
I don't think this is great by any means, and when compared with similar artists it also doesn't hold up as well. However, it's also not bad. It's a perfectly ok, reasonable listen. I wasn't upset by it. It's got some consistency and it plays nicely enough in the background. It also made me revisit the Reeves and Mortimer Slade sketches, and that was an added bonus.
Pretty generic 70s dad rock. I enjoyed this but the album is too long. I'm really enjoying reading the 1-star reviews.
It’s a shame that Slade are only really known for their Christmas song these days cause there’s some good stuff throughout their discography. This album is a good enough, solid listen but since it’s their only one on the list it probably isn’t the one I would’ve went for. Slade In Flame or Slade Alive! would’ve been better choices in my opinion. Top Track - I Won’t Let It ‘Appen Agen
Now appropriate that Slade were more than Noddy and Christmas. some good tunes.
If The Beatles, Zeppelin, AC/DC and Motley Crue spawned a band, this is what you'd get. Not as bad as the one guy on the cover caused me to expect.
Pub rock par excellence. Underappreciated and occasionally great.
Pretty good classic rock album from the 70s. Sounds a lot like they want to be Zeppelin, but still an entertaining album. Highlights: "Gudbuy T'Jane" and "Wondering' Y"
Surprisingly decent 70s rock. Not too much going on besides rocking out, but there is absolutely a time and place for just jamming and having fun. Shorter runtime also helps. Top tracks: Gudby T'Jane, Gudby Gudby, Mama Weer All Crazee Now
did not slay the house down but my dad would love it 3 stars
Nothing really remarkable, but fun time in the background for sure
I enjoyed it, but it was very run of the mill classic/glammy rock.
Good solid glam rock. Better than I thought.
Sure, it's childish goon rock from the 70's with a crazee predilection for misspelling, but it's an Ok listen. I don't think I'd play whole this thing again, but I also can't dunk on them too hard. If I had heard this when I was a teen, I would have banged to it. Hearing it now (and reading some other reviews) it sounds kind of derivative and lowest common denominator. But if you recall, this was 1972. So, a lot of the ideas and tropes they're pushing were reasonably original at the time. We're tired of it now because it's been done to death. But it started somewhere, somewhen, right? I don't love his voice, but at least he shows a bit of range and tries some various styles/tones. It's ok for what they're doing. Is it an album everyone should hear before they die? Nah! But it is an interesting tidbit that marks a particular time/style. Generously throwing them a 3.
Meh
Excellent party rock album
105/1001 First listen. Never cared for Slade. Maybe their connection to Quiet Riot, a band I liked for a minute in my early teens. Wasn’t as bad I was expecting. The recording sounded like a warbled old cassette in places. That hairdo though. Would listen again. 5/10
Ahh, yes, the grammatically challenged band that is Slade. They were billed as a glam rock band, but really they were more of a proto metal band that was signed during the rise of Led Zeppelin. Rhythm guitarist and Lead vocalist Noddy Holder's voice sound like Robert Plant's, but the band's sound was something a bit different, something that, along with Kiss, would inspire the rise and dominance of hair metal in the U.S. in the 1980s. I am perplexed why the first 2 tracks were not bumped to the back of the album. They were pretty weak and sloppy, compared to the tracks that followed. To me, the album doesn't feel like it finally finds its groove, with regards to engineering and production until track 3, "Look at Last Nite". From that point onward the album holds together forming one of the better proto-metal albums of the early 1970s. Sadly, SLAYED? does not have their greatest song, and my favorite, which is "Cum On Feel the Noize", released as non-album single early in 1973, but you can hear the seeds of that sound on this album. A worthy entry to represent one of the few truly proto hard rock/metal bands in the early 1970s. As an American, Slade was one of the those hard rock/metal bands that you discovered by accident. They were never truly huge here, and probably did not receive the love that they should have, not until Quiet Riot covered their mega hit "Cum on Feel the Noize" in 1983, and even then their name recognition increased, but their sales numbers, not so much.
Good stuff
5/10 Favorite: Mama Weer All Crazee Now
This seemed much more rock than glam and so it was different from how I expected knowing only their singles. Pretty good though.
Not bad tbh
Du rock, ça s'écoute, pas de grosse pépite
Un mélange de tellement de choses … black sabbath un peu C’est sympa mais je vais oublier
The top review of this album says "perfect dive bar playlist fodder". That.
mouais trop basique
sympa mais mid
Pb sur la balance des aigus, sinon c’est littéralement quiet riot. C'est du glam rock très classique. Par contre comment ça 1972 ils sont vraiment en avance
gng you arent led zep
fun note-taking bg music, nothing special tho
fine, didn't love, wasn't terrible
This is either just as great as "Licensed to Ill" or just as terrible, but it's exactly the same either way.
I was actually surprised by this one- an interesting mix of progressive rock, hard rock, and early brit pop. It kind of sounded like a mix of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Overall- good album. 3.5/5
Just ok
Unique classic rock hell yeah. Glam-ish, hard rock-ish. Good boogie woogie and swagger. Sure its not a moonshot important classic rock album that will inspire the ages, but its got hooks, rock riffs and grooves. Fun stuff.
Slayed? - Slade Yeah, this brits got some bops. Solid album!
decent album, fave song and sound was ‘look at last nite’. good length, 35 something minutes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Always can identify a Slade song / album by its very recognizable sound. So there’s that.
Didn’t listen to the rest of the album outside of the title track bcs I was busy :(
Not bad. Felt like AC/DC and Spinal Tap had a baby at the beginning, but it got better.
My dad used to play his own Slade home brewed cassette "mix tapes" in the car on longer trips. I think I recognized one of the songs from this album as being on the cassette he used to play. This is what I think this project can be good for; rediscovering old songs you've completely forgotten about and wouldn't have come across otherwise. Especially when it's music you don't really dig that hard.
Slayed? Kinda. Filthy mullet though - extra point
yeah kinda enjoyed. Bit long & samey though
Solid Glam Rock effort from the early '70s. Top track:(Janis Joplin cover) "Move Over"
Overall 2,5 Forgettable-to-Average album with a few good songs Best: Look at Last Nite, Gudbuy Gudbuy, I Don't Mind Worst: This Whole World's Goin' Crazee, Let the Good Times Roll, Move Over
slay album. had fun with this and was surprised. knew 'move over' from them actually before in knew it was janis joplin's song.
Fun enough, hair band rock and roll. A little juvenile and simple lyrics at times but nothing completely offensive.
I’m so sick of these expanded editions on music streaming. I AM NOT INTERESTED in listening to leftovers, live tracks, and fucking interviews with the band for an album I don’t know…particularly in this project which contains 70 to 80% hubris. Apple Music normally offers the original form of the album but sometimes not, as on this record. I’m venting over nothing really. For fans, the expansion is amazing but even I don’t tolerate this from my most adored bands. Who needs 5 extra hours of music??? At that point the artist is just being narcissistic. I guess I’m venting because this album is not special. It’s chunky 70’s rock, done by a million bands almost exactly the same way. It’s straight white men dishing out what they always do, and it’s repetitive and SO FUCKING BORING. I went through the phase in my life of liking this brand of music and I’m moving beyond it now. If this music shows up in a cool movie soundtrack, I’d be nostalgic for this time period that I wasn’t alive in, but not much else.
This was catchy 70s rock, but they kinda just sound like a lot of other rock bands from the 70s and 80s. Nothing really sets this apart.
mja. jag gillar ju glam och sådär men känns som att det här är rätt långt bort från t.rex alltså.
This was decent. I will have to give it another visit. 3.5/5
Energetic ball busting rock n roll from the early 70s. The overall vibe is rocking, but the vocals weren't my cup of tea, which tended to be more AC/DC than the Who or Rolling Stones.
Ehh, pretty fine I guess. If I lived in England on the 70s and was at one of their concerts at a bar or something I know it'd be absolutely, as they say, mental. What is very interesting is how you can hear that Glam style in full form and they do do that very well. I thought I recognized the band and then confirmed that they are indeed the band that first made Cuk on Feel the Noize (but that's not on this album). Fun nonetheless but nothing too notable
70s hard rock. Pretty decent but very standard stuff.
Alright. Didn’t really vibe with this. The best song I know by them is still the Christmas song lol
até que foi divertido, apesar de uma músicas me irritarem um pouco
Is this just a lower quality AC/DC? Fave track: Gudbuy T'Jane
Cock rock that rocks pretty damn hard. I keep going back to Move Over; great bass line, cool song. Not terribly interested in revisiting the album, but it's got some merit.
A very listenable rock 'n' roll album!
Ich fand die Stimme des Sängers sehr nervig, ansonsten war es in Ordnung.
This felt like dollar store AC/DC. Def not the worst thing I ever heard but not particularly special either. Would probably be fun to grab a couple of pints and see them play a small local club in the 70s though…
Surprinsingly much better than its cheesy sleeve.
It's a rock album that feels dated, but it's good rock that isn't too dated for my taste, so I enjoyed listening to it. However, it's nothing exceptional or particularly memorable.
Rock, but not hard.
It's just straight-ahead early 70s Rock. Nothing special. It kind of makes me feel nostalgic, actually.
they were a bit samey but good vibes
Not for me. It does rock, though.
I’ve always considered Slade to be an underrated band who have suffered from a general comical view of their output. This has been backed up by listening to compilations of their singles, however i’m not sure my view is so strong on listening to Slayed?. It all just feels a bit ploddy and samey. Mama we’re all crazee now is a clear stand out in an otherwise unremarkable affair
I listened to this while walking the hour to work and so, while I'd noted the version of this album was the extended one, I'd not made any attempt to work out where I was supposed to stop listening to get the normal experience. As a result, Noddy appearing to do an ad read was really very surprising. That might be the oddest thing I've ever heard on a deluxe album. I really don't have that much to say about the rest of the record. I enjoyed it, in a toe tapping way, but I have subsequently remembered none of it other than the song I already knew. The very definition of "alright". 3/5
Fun romp!
3.3
Fun if not a raw version of glam rock. Occasional Rush vibes. Not obnoxious but not super memorable.
Standard 70s hard rock. I guess their gimmick is that they spell their songs wrong. Not bad, but I don't think this will be in rotation too much.
Not bad 70s rock. Weird that Quiet Riot had more success with Slade’s songs than they did.
= the Beatles Perfectly fine but why is this on here? There are tons of bands exactly like this but better
There's more to Slade than the singles suggest. Much of this album is good old boogie bar room riffs, with an English sense of humour. It's bloody great fun. But it's not all one great big knees up. There's a darkness to Slade, something that is rarely explored outside of the mainstream narrative. The guitars get a little too heavy for my liking in areas. It almost strays deep into Led Zep territory. But what do you expect? It's Slade, innit.
I basically knew Slade was a glam rock band whose popularity didn't really translate outside of the UK, so I was not expecting to enjoy this at all. To my shock, it's actually one of the better glam rock albums I've heard! It's not quite on par with Transformer or Ziggy Stardust, but it's easily better than Electric Warrior, and maybe even a bit better than Hunky Dory. Guitars are all good and crunchy, I like the singer's voice, really no complaints here. It's nothing world-changing or anything, but I guess I'm actually kinda glad I heard it?
Ragged, british and full of spunk. The sounds are unclean the right way, but not too inspired
Perfectly average early ’70s hard rock. Loud, a little sloppy, and exactly what you’d expect — nothing more, nothing less.
When the time is right and you’re in the mood you cannot beat a bit of Slade. Trouble is the time and mood normally coincide with Christmas (it’s November as I write so any day now that bloody song will be everywhere) or wedding do’s when a bit a dad dancing is order of the day. Rest of the time Slade are a bit naff. My ex absolutely adored Slade so I’m trying not to let that influence me despite an old LP (might be this one actually must check) hanging around my collection. Timely reminder I guess to give it her back 30 years later. Moving on from that, got to say Noddy is very much a national treasure and responsible for making a lot of 70’s teenagers of which I was one, very happy. So a worthwhile addition to this list albeit musically shallow. 3/5 11/11/25
Umm... OK. This is VERY era dated and genre specific. Nothing wrong with that! It IS 70's rock. All in and if it were not for the number of similar bands from the time, it would be iconic or at least canon for what the genre is. Maybe in a sense Slade IS iconic, but for some reason other bands seem to pop up in my mind first, let alone some "new" retro stuff that is mind boggling. So what to do? Fun, check. Energetic, check. professional (good quality, etc.), check. Iconic, .... ? Maybe... They are 70's high school... I suppose if one is hardcore in the mood for this genre (70's glam rock) than sure. Maybe it was just too "the same" for me? IDK...
This voice — it’s impossible to mistake. I’ve listened to Cum On Feel the Noize so many times, and his vocals are so distinctive that whenever a similar chord progression appears in another Slade song, it immediately calls Cum On Feel the Noize to mind. The whole album has this infectious, rough-edged energy, and even when the songs differ, they all carry that unmistakable “Slade” stamp.
This is some cool rock stuff.
interesting album, this is why I signed up for this experience. To find out about bands and albums I never heard of but should listen to
Oh the '70s when the licks were set to scorching and the stomp designed for industrial strength, when men were men, when fun and sex were the lingua franca of rock and roll and the hair styles absurd or surrealism-adjacent. "Mama Weer" is good clean fun, innocent-seeming and triumphantly empty-headed. The best that can be said that at least they didn't take themselves too seriously, possessing at least that much self-knowledge, though two songs with "Crazee" in the title and various other silly spellings, plus the goofy cover suggests maybe they should have done.
Growing up in the 80s, Slade were a joke band. This changing that view, but still its seems a basic glam rock. Nothing stands out. 3 Heard before? 1 song Owned: No: 27/103 (26%) Will I get? No
If, like me, your only exposure to Slade prior to this album was their Christmas song, it will be hard not to hear it in some way listening to this because Noddy Holder's vocals are so distinctive. This ended up being a perfectly okay rock album, but there's probably better things to listen to. Like that Christmas song.
Apparently spelling has no correlation to a band's ability to rock and roll!
70s classic rock magic
It's an interesting listen. I was not familiar with Slade other than through covers. Sounds like it was highly influenced by the original Alice Cooper band. No idea if the two bands had any connection.
Pretty good
They were a really fun rock & roll band, but are they an essential listen before you die…?
Bit run of the mill, but a fine listen nonetheless.
songs are too similar to make it a great album besids this these tracks where they are thanking the fans all the time were weird
3.5
Very basik rock'n'roll, but done in a cool way. Many good hooks. 3.5 stars
I thought this was pretty good. "Gudbuy T'Jane" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" were the standouts, but I also thought the cover of Janis Joplin's "Move Over" was pretty good. The rest was decent. 3.5 stars.
3.5
Nice, cheesy meat n potatoes 70s glam rock. Frontman Noddy Holder is a cool dude - big voice, big barrel o fun and with crazee charisma like Tom Baker as Doctor Who. Guitarist Dave Hill kinda wipes that cool slate clean though - he looks like Simon from Inbetweeners got Life On Mars’d back into the 70s and was made to cut his hair like Rowlf from Muppets. Mama Weer All Crazy Now the only main awesome one that sticks out but overall a solid rockin listen.
It was fine, just fine.
ikke så ille så jeg hadde tenkt meg
Pretty sure I've never listened to a Slade album before, obviously know their hits though. Sounded pretty much as I would expect. Big distinctive voice from Noddy. A lot of it kinda sounds a bit like a certain era of Beatles, which i can't identify as I don't know the Beatles well enough.... Probably unfair as everyone was trying to do something beatlesy at the time. Didn't know any of the tracks here, I thought were all crazy now was similar sounding to come on feel the noise. Probably more serious than I was expecting too. 3.5, pleasantly surprised, but probably not enough to be back
Classic hard Rock
Has a distictive AC/DC style riffs even touching on Quo especially coming in from track 1. However thats the genre its good old play a tennis racket as a guitar rock n roll. crowd pleasing stomp. I didnt mind it I think Slade get a bad press as a glam rock joke but they did produce some decent songs and not just a novalty rock band. Although the vocals let this down at times kinda shouty and the lyrics are minimum but its rock out bouncy so has its place in my playlist of life.
This was fine. 3.2
Powerful. Chunky! Fun. What I thought was Scotland's noisiest band was actually England's ninth-noisiest (English bands can be very noisy). Photographs of their mid-seventies height highlight their difficult hair and their way of standing together so closely they appear glued. Dave Hill was an alien from the year 31,000 who came to destroy us all but decided he'd rather play guitar. Noddy Holder was named "Noddy Holder". Seriously I like this raucous band quite a lot, and it seems they did too.
It sounds like if T. Rex, Led Zeppelin and Alice Cooper had a baby, but it made mid music. There's no reason it should take two songs to say "Gudby". The misspelling of the song titles is annoying but Wonderin' Y saved this one from being a two star. 2.5
A decent album but not outstanding in any way. 3 stars or C+.
Yeah not bad For the 12 bar blues, which i hate, its listenable, enjoyable to a certain extent, short, good
Good
A more irreverent, less serious Led Zeppelin. It makes the gap between Led Zeppelin and 80s hair/glam metal make a TON more sense. That said, I don't love 80s hair metal so this was an okay album for me. 3/5
3.0
This was really surprisingly fun.
british glam rock with attitude. good stuff.
Good ol’ Noddy Holder and the boys.
Cool throwback listen and a band that established a tone and sound a little ahead of its time. To think as a young teen I thought that landmark release from Quiet Riot was the coolest “new” sound around.
This was a really fun listen. Glam and metal before it was cool. Sweaty swaggering street rock that was clearly a foundation laying for so many bands that arose in the 80s. And how can you forget Quiet Riot riding their highest wave of success on the backs of two Slade songs: Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum on Feel The Noize.
This was enjoyable and crazy to think this evolved into a lot of the 80s glam metal. You can definitely hear a lot of the influences. Well done Slade.
This was a fun listen. Felt like a group of talented kids with awful spelling skills were given access to booze and partying and told to make a record. I dig it. 3.25/5
1972. Pretty enjoyable British 70's rock that I have never heard. They sounded tough at first and then mellowed out. Covered Janis Joplin.
And here I thought I knew every 70's garage rock band that was worth knowing. Like, was Slade on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack and I just missed it. Good stuff! Favorite track: Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Super fun album!
I don't feel like there is anything particularly interesting or noteworthy about this album. Very much feels to me like rock music made for the radio. I don't think it's particularly bad, maybe in the right setting these songs would be kind of fun, but trying to listen to this and offer a critical review I feel like I must be missing something. It doesn't help that researching them, the band's Wikipedia is clearly polished by PR people from the band themselves and paints them like on of the biggest and most influential rock bands in recent history... Which sort of just feel offensive.
3.5
Extremely basic rock? Noting stands out, which makes you wonder why they are here? Just to show what was on the radio at the time? Hard to give them a low score when its so inoffensive, but I can't see my self going back to it either.
Decent hard rock but not the absolute best from this genre. Lyrics are kind of cheesy and the production is wanting. But it's fun and has a rollicking style so it passes.
Dirty Glammy Rock that feels inspired by Rod Stewart and Faces, what's not to love? The only downside is it didn't have "Cum On Feel The Noize" that was included in the Japanese 2006 remastered release...
It's fine.
good clean dumb fun
Much better than I expected from a bunch of extremely goofy British glam rockers, but still not great. Their music is excessively catchy.
6/10
80s hair band music before the 80s. Sounds great for what it is, and it’s incredible compared to the bands it inspired, but it’s just one genre that I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing again and I’d be content.
++: How d' You Ride, The Whole World's Goin' Crazee, Move Over, Gudbuy T'Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Let the Good Times Roll / Fell So Fine +: Look at Last Nite, I Don' Mind +-: I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen, Gudbuy Gudbuy 7,6/10
Another British hair band. Sound wasn’t bad but it wasn’t distinct
This is a fun rock and roll album. A little before my time but some fun and rolicking songs. One hit song to really tie it all together. Obviously the better version of the song vs Quiet Riot's.
eh
Decent enough - enjoyed. Doesn’t seem like a timeless classic though!
Anytime I hear any music like this I assume it's AC/DC, and frankly, I cannot distinguish if this is any better or worse than their music...so I'm rating it the same.
Lumpy. All Rock. No Roll. A couple of good singles, and that great screaming voice redeem it 3 stars
8/24/25 Some really good straight forward driving rock and roll. Can definitely see this being an influence for Quiet Riot, especially in the vocal style. 70%. Two cover songs which is a little much for me. The Joplin one is more enjoyable than the Shirley & Lee medley.
There is an over-polished, untouchable sheen to the production of the record. I am into melodic, well crafted forms of glam rock, but combined with hard rock it is not my vibe at all. There are elements when they push the performance into harsher or even more romantic territory where it gets a little more interesting, but I feel distanced from the majority of the performance which lacks an emotional core. It’s not bad necessarily, but very professionalised, it could use a bit of spice!
Fun little party album. Nothing crazy, just rock and roll.
Hell yeah rock out man! I'm not always the biggest fan of hard rock, but when it nearly borders on garage rock like this does I can get into it. I like the vocals and how keeps its foot on the gas until the end. My two favorite songs both have "Crazee" in the title; I especially like the keys on the second track and how they flesh things out a bit. Now, the fact that this doesn't let up also means there's not a whole lot knew thrown into the mix once you've heard a couple songs, and like all but the very best such albums I suspect that means I won't be coming back to it much. But it's a fun listen for sure.
Classic, British glam rock, just some guitars and a drummer, 3 for the music, 2 for the lyrics. Rounding up for the knuckle art.
Very standard rock.
Kinda trashy and overblown but some fun songs here and there.
