Reviews (page 4 of 7)
Kinda trashy and overblown but some fun songs here and there.
Really enjoyable in a slightly rocky bluesy way, I knew Slade had a few songs that weren't completely "Glam" rock, but first time I've hit a whole album. Good stuff.
Hauska ajatella, että näihin aikoihin valkoset äijät keksi yhdistää Beatlesin raspilauluun. Tää kuulostaa melkein kasarilta, paitsi siis b-puoli sekaisin 60-luvulta. Viihdyttää. Ei silti mieleenpainuvia biisejä. Mut viihdyttää.
Before listening to this album, all my prior exposure to Slade was from either their Christmas song or "Come on feel the noize" Given that, I'd say this album held no surprises. They really just do the one thing over and over again. To be fair, if you're gonna be a one trick pony, it's not the worst trick to have; the songs are high-energy, fun and danceable. But this album is too long for how little variation it has. After a while the shouty vocals start to tire you out, it's a bit like being yelled at for an hour (but to a catchy beat)
Not bad at all, but I feel like I've heard most of it before. Good for a background listen, it does sound like a mix of T.Rex and AC/DC, and maybe a bit of Queen songwriting? Hard to tell.
This is some sort of early Glam Rock. It's all right. I just don't think it was necessary to be on this list. The singer and his players did stuff that was prototypical for the genre, but was done better too. So...
Aika ykstoikkoista rokkia. Hyvää rummuttelua kyllä
Любимая группа моего бати, в поиске альбомов которой он был заинтересован сильно больше, чем в участии в моей жизни. Лучшая песня - I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen.
did not slay.
Definitely an album where I can see how hard rock became solidified. Seems a lot of people tried to do this voice. The album is fine, but has a couple absolute bangers that keep this from a 2 star
Dad- 7 Mom- 7.5 Mike- 4 Lori- 6 Michael- 4 Miles- 5.5 Cole- 4.5 Avg- 5.5
This brings back memories of my youth. I had completely forgotten about Slade. This music reminds me of my sultry and exciting teenage parties in the dark, musty basements of friends. Although the music of my early youth still influences my listening habits today in many ways, I could easily do without Slade. But because of the memories, I enjoyed listening to the album. 3/5
Man who speeks evil is the ripper track
Dumb but fun UK pub rock. A tad forgettable at times, but doesn't take itself too seriously and is a fun romp. Standout track is probably "Move Over" - a Janis Joplin cover, lol. But hey, it rocks hard so I'll give 'em that.
I am a glam rock fan. This is so fun and energetic! Super enjoyable to listen and dance to. There is nothing....intricate happening here. But that is okay! This is just solid rock! The solos and riffs are soooo fun! Love the voice...gives male Janis Joplin for some reason to me! Rhe spellings of songs hurt my head tho hahaha. Actual rating...3.5. Liked Songs: "How D'You Ride" , "The Whole World's Goin Crazee" , "I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen" , "Move Over" , "Gudbuy T'Jane" , "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" , "Let the Good Times Roll / Feel So Fine" , "Candidate" , "Wonderin' Y" , "Man Who Speeks Evil" , "I'm Mee, I'm Now, An' That's Orl" , "Kill 'Em At the Hot Club Tonite"
Slade is always a go-to example of what the Brits got right in the glam/hard rock era of the 70s. Bonus, I didn't get that Quiet Riot's biggest hits were Slide Covers. 3/5
It’s fun, maybe a little dumb... but I still like it. Honestly, this band is more of a greatest-hits kind of group.
A band that spawned a lot of 80’s covers. Pub rock with some glam that definitely had some further influence. 1/8 star for the phonetic song names.
Pretty standard 70s rock. Wasn't bad.
When first listening I assumed standard 80s hair metal, with the voice and everything. Then I saw it was '72! A couple of the songs surprised me, some of the harmonies almost reminded me of the Beatles. A decent listen, I'll probably revisit in the future. But nothing I'm going to search out soon.
Bro-tastic 70s (hints if 80s) old time rock and roll. Ok, but nothing special…
Slade = National Treasures. Some good tunes here. 7/10
My respect for Noddy Holder has increased
Every song that mentioned the word “crazee” was godawful. The rest of it was fine to good!
Perfectly respectable dad rock album from this period. Definitely needs headphones so you can enjoy all the pieces but not something I see myself ever returning to.
Idk this seems fun. Will have to give it a few more spins, so 3.5 rounded down for now.
If you’re was in a big hair band phase, this would probably be my favorite group. I doubt they take themselves too seriously. I’m not ever going to love this genre, but this was fun for what it was.
child: i want to buy two cds! one for t-rex and one for ac/dc! mom: we have a compilation cd of them two at home. the compilation cd at home: 3/5
Some family lore: my aunt allegedly slept with their drummer
I have never listened to a full Slade album, but I have listened to pretty much every band they inspired in 80s Glam Metal, like Quiet Riot, and Motley Crue. I am really enjoying exploring a genre I have never deep dived into, and that's 70s Glam Rock. Granted Slade is the heavier form of that, and was fun, as you can clearly hear the path they paved. But how often would I just throw on a Slade record? Probably as often as I throw on a Quiet Riot record these days, which is hardly ever.
Still not sure if they slayed? 3.
This was fun. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5
This is much different than I expected. The cover art made me think punk rock. Solid rock and roll. Fun.
3/5. A pretty solid rock album, and one that I can see influenced other bands down the road like Rush, Boston, and even some David Bowie. There are definitely albums that come after that perfect this sound but this catchy and punchy rock does come through here. It's not quite Led Zeppelin, which is a little more slick, this one leans into its pop tendencies. I think it's an okay record, and one I could find myself coming back to, but would probably listen to a similar but better album instead. Best Song: I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen, I Don' Mind, How d' You Ride
Solid 70s rock
Favorite Track: Gudbuy Gudbuy
Favorite Track: Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Sometimes, a 3 means an album is good/decent just not great. There may be good songs, but there may be some faults to the album that keep it back. Other times, a 3 means an album is neither good or bad, just mid. This is mid. All the songs just blend together, nothing stands out.
Never have been a huge fan of Slade. I only really knew them from their 80's hit, Run Runaway, which is an OK song. Didn't realize they had been around for a while. This album is not my cup of tea, but it was fine. Probably more intended for British audiences. 2.5/5 stars = 3.
Average 70s rock
I have a soft spot for Slade. Mostly caused by Christmas and Reeves and Mortimer. The odd song is quite fun and I like the simplistic, in your face, style of glam rock. However, let's not pretend that they were actually good. Anyway, where's me cuppa soup?
A pretty solid rock record with decent performances and okay songs. What Noddy lacks in spelling ability he makes up for in a catchy chorus I'll give him that. I do feel like theres gonna be a lot of these, its not bad by any means but there is nothing stand out about it whatsoever.
Absolutely opposite sentiment to the previous album in that I expected nothing from this, assumed it was going to be straight garbage, and was actually slightly pleasantly surprised. Nothing special, pretty straightforward 70’s rock, but enjoyable and short enough to not feel like an offensive or overly dull listen. Song titles are some of the worst I’ve ever laid eyes on though. How d’ You Ride (6/10) The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee (6/10) Look at Last Nite (8/10) I Won’t Let it ‘Appen Again (7/10) Move Over (7/10) Gudbuy T’Jane (6/10) Gudbuy Gudbuy (6/10) Mama Weer All Crazee Now (7/10) I Don’ Mind (7/10) Let the Good Times Roll / Feel So Fine (6/10) 6.6/10
This album was unexpected for me. Hadn't heard of Slade and based on the cover I was expecting something cringe. It was campy, but also just silly fun. I don't know a ton about this area of rock, but this band seems like the bridge between Led Zeppelin and all the hair metal, glam rock bands of the 80's. 3/5
this did not slay
Decent album. Liked it but its very similar to some groups in the era yet not as good as those.
There are some decent songs on here, but nothing that puts this near the top of the list for me. I was just happy they were not singing about Christmas.
I might just stick to listening to these guys around xmas.
I think I have heard parts of this before, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. A solid album, but not a favorite, I wish I had a better critique but I don't have the time
It sounds like glam rock before glam rock knew what to sound like. Still feels too 60s.
Not bad classic rock
Is it inspired? Is it mechanically excellent? Is it exceptional in any meaningful respect? Probably not. But it is fun, classic British Glam/Hard-Rock. Also, Gudbuy T'Jane is lowkey pervy.
Varsin menevä rocklevy!
Alright British arena stuff.
7/10
It fits the genre but was very vanilla and nothing made me want to listen again.
It's pretty alright but just sounds like glam rock.
Stick to your Christmas song
Entertaining classic rock sound from a band I was unfamiliar with
I dug it more when he was singing mellower, the riffs are nice, but nothing extraordinary. Definitely a few earworms on here and oddly enough towards the end desperate attempts to imitate The Beatles??
Slade doing Slade as only Slade can 👍
Great classic rock. Should be in the same conversation as the New York Dolls for their influence on punk. That said, doesn't really hit me. Had I heard it when I was younger, it might be a different story.
Classic rock, this was quite a fun listen although for me it was heavily rooted in the 70s sound
That 70's Show in albumformaat.
rock.
Very good.
Couple of pretty good tracks. Started to sound the same toward the back half. 3.5
Pretty cool UK rock 'n' roll. Classic sound, classic style.
Ok rock but nothing too special from todays perspective. May impress more when doing the list in chronological order. Three stars
Straight ahead rock but the songwriting is really not good. The one standout is a Janis Joplin cover "Move Over"
None of my peer group were into this band in high school, although their hits were on the radio and were pretty likable. Not quite sure why they weren’t more on our radar. The vocalist’s screeching gets annoying after awhile, but some solid stuff here.
Some good riffs but otherwise pretty unremarkable.
Pechu, mais s’essouffle quand même rapidement au cours de l’album Pas de grande variation
Very classic 70's rock
One of my favorite videos/songs in the early days of MTV was Slade's "Run Runaway." Weird coincidence that I also loved Quiet Riot back then and had no idea until years later that a few of their biggest hits were Slade covers. These guys had a sense of humor that resonated with me - they seemed Monty Python-ish. And I always liked the name Noddy Holder.
T’anser thare kwestin, noe. Thay ded nought slaye. Cumbyning Beetles stile rok whith diforsed dadd rok shuld wurk inn therey, butt didint toetully pann out heer, mostlee doo tue the predukshin lackeeng awn moste traks.
Pure cock rock, Britain's answer to ACDC. It's fun. The bass on Move Over is fucking awesome. Gudbuy Gudbuy has a pretty sweet riff.
Good enough for the pub
Never heard of it, and the album cover did not make me eager to listen. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but that was a low bar.
Powerful rock. Had never heard of them before, but they're great
Ive never listened to a slade album, just the hits. There was some surprising consistency here. A lot of beatles rip off and some fairly generic pub rock but its well done and Noddy's voice is brilliant
im uncomfortable howd you ride- 4 the whole world's goin crazy- 4 look at last night- 4 I won't let it happen again- 4 move over- 4 goodbye to jane- 4 goodbye goodbye- 4 mama we're all crazy now- 4 I dont mind- 4 let the good times roll- 4 no more the most british people to ever exist
I love the name of this album, the album itself was Fine
It’s oke. Oldies. Not my style, but ok as background music
After the first few songs I thought I’d hate this album, I really didn’t like most of the harder songs on this. But I thoroughly enjoyed several songs here. Mama Weer All Crazee Now, I Don’t Mind, and Wonderin’ Y are great
Fun!
The album is very much characteristically from its time which I have come to expect from rock projects. I enjoyed it, but don't have much to say. I have liked this particular sound for a while, so it lacks the essence of "newness" but that isn't a commentary on the album itself but my previous listening taste. Still I feel it's a solid rock album, nothing to critique really. Enjoyed it, but I don't know if I'll come back to listen to it, but then again maybe I will because of how comforting the familiarity of a sound I love. The final rating based on my music taste: 6/10 23 April 2025
The thing about this record is that it sounds great on my tinny little Bluetooth speaker. I bet it would sound great on the AM radio in a '71 Olds Cutlass, cruising around Grand Rapids surreptitiously sipping from a 40 oz Mickey's. Cherish rock and roll that does its job without pretense.
I could never decide whether Slade were just a novelty band that most of us would never had heard of if it weren't for *that* Christmas song. I struggle to take them seriously.
Fun. Without these guys we don't get the Darkness and I love the Darkness.
A bit ahead of the beat for 1972. Felt 'rough', but not in a bad way
it was a bit more fun than expected but still not worth a second listen.
Early 70s heavy glam metal ain't my bag, but fine for what it was.
not much but not bad
My first thought was "Yay, an early 70's Brit Glam Rock band... let me guess, theatrical, guitar heavy, screeching falsettos, and deep lyrical genius about drugs, sex and rock & roll..." Yep, on brand. But maybe I was just in the mood for it today?
Would we still be talking about Slade today, were it not for that Christmas song and their eccentricities? Not really sure. Their glam ness didn't stand out. Perhaps their Black Country roots? I dunno.
Lite samma vibes som T-Rex. Några låtar som var nice
Slayed? Not really
Decent
I enjoyed it! Listening to a whole album becomes a bit mundane though. Feel really bad that Quiet Riot got famous of their songs!
This was a good album. I can definitely see where it had some influence on things to come. The vocals reminded me of Motley Crue, and the overall sound kind of gave a harder rock vibe that was more edgy than the standard blues rock of the time. Nothing was particularly mind blowing but there were a lot of tracks that I liked and overall I enjoyed it.
2.8 I have the flu. Or the Rona. Something bad. The last thing I needed was to have Noddly Holder sqawking in my ear. On another day I might have been into it but this is poor timing.
I was expecting to hate this, but I kinda dig a lot of it? Didn't even know those Quiet Riot songs were covers. It's goofy fun but also gets old fast. I actually liked some of the slower ones, like Wonderin' Y, which kinda sounds like an early ELO track
Lost my notes...basically didnt know that Quiet Riot covered 'Cum on Feel the Noize' and that my high school football team played it at every practice. and for that it has a bitter taste in my mouth (1 star), but 3 stars for the influence.
What a beautiful ridiculous band! Quiet Riot seems even more weird a phenomenon knowing that their hits were Slade covers. This album is so-so, but their singles are solid. They wrote the best rock'n'roll Christmas song ever but it's not on this album. If you are looking for glam rock you need to hear before you die, allow me to direct you to Mott the Hoople.
First complaint: These guys spell it "Crazee" in the song titles but say it "Crazay" in the actual songs. This is something an editor or producer could have caught. But did they? No, sir, they did not. Throughout this album Slade has a clever lil' wink and a nod attitude toward their career and their industry. This I firmly believe the band thought would be endearing. Was it? No, hell no, it was not. But was this a fun album, and should we reward bands with the ability to communicate a good time? Hell yes it was, hell yes we should. I may get some grief for this but.... four stars.
Without Slade there may never have been a succesful Quiet Riot. Without Quiet Riot we may never have had hair metal. And then what? Would the world have been worse off? Or maybe better off? I dunno. Dumb, fun, rock n roll. AC/DC took this and ran with it.
I'd go 2.5 so I'll go 3/5. It's your typical hairband rock album.
Actually rocks hard but doesn't have any charm. If you walk and think where's your life going, it might be a nice background sound.
There were 1-2 good songs, but overall it felt a bit forced. Maybe it just wasn't the right time for me, but I think there are much better albums out there if you want to listen to this kind of music. Regardless I can understand why someone would enjoy a bit of head-noding dad rock.
I just don’t like Slade. I have tried, but they’re not for me. I reviewed this album just recently, and it remains the same. 3, good enough rock sound but not particularly note worthy. Don’t enjoy the vocals.
Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Very middle of the road for me. I feel like sometimes there was some screaming just for the sake of screaming which I didn’t love but average rock album
6/10
Some decent songs, some less so. Probably an influential group, given the timing of this album.
I always associate Slade with drunk Christmas sing alongs but this we pretty solid
The music is actually pretty solid, and the bass player deserves better. The vocals are passable at best, and the writing is horrible. Really not a fan of the Janis cover.
Slade are fucking great. It's just your basic rock 'n' roll. It's meat and two veg, balls to the wall glam rock. I would say they're probably the United Kingdom's answer to AC/DC just with a few less riffs. Noddy Holder has got such a booming voice, and it's such a presence on this album. It's effortlessly powerful and loud, but without sounding like he's screaming without purpose. There's nothing more to say really. If you don't like this kind of music, you'll rate it lower. If you enjoy 70's British glam rock you'll rate it higher. Half an hour is just about enough before it starts to get a little samey, or perhaps grating.
3.5/5
Alright
Altogether now "So here it is Merry Christmas...". Oh, never mind then. Wasn't the Slade sound I was expecting. Bluesy, mellow, but only listenable. Didn't get anything out of it really.
endnu et af de der albums som er virkelig goofy, men det er også bare 35 minutter langt og virker til at vide, hvad det er. Lille 3’er
Not entirely my style of rock, but interesting to listen to nonetheless. I liked a few songs here and there but it all kind of blurs together.
“The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee” at track 2 is crazee. Easily the worst song on the album — I almost turned it off and gave 1 star right then and there. I stuck it out though, and the back half of this album is pretty good! It lacks identity though. As other reviewers have pointed out, one song is harder rock, with an AC/DC-like sound, and the next is so pop, you’d think it was The Beatles. For some reason, finding out they’re British makes the antics more forgivable though? Lol.
Brings back memories of my school days. An unusual mix of Hard and Glam Rock - they could be Hard Rock, especially live, but most people remember them for their Glam Rock singles, two of which, "Gudbuy T'Jane" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", are on this album. The album also contains their cover of the Janis Joplin song "Move Over", a live favourite.
Good album! I was jamming out to it at work and I enjoyed it.

Rock and roll is so much fun when played by bands like Slade. However, the first half of the record feels a little weak.
I enjoyed the instrumental work a lot here but the lyrics get reparative . It’s still a strong 3 for me as as I seem to have a soft spot for glamour rock Also What exactly is glamor rock
Overall, this is really pretty good. I don't know what year it came out, but at times you could convince me it was the 60s, the 70s, or the 2000s. I do like it, but I don't care if I ever hear it again, so I dont think I can give it a 4 star review. 3.5 if I could, because it really is quite decent. I suspect the album is actually late 60s, so I'm not sure why I've never heard any of these songs before.
Bueno
This one was odd. Sounded like ACDC, Beatles, Zeppelin, and some atrocious vocals here and there. Still some of these songs were solid.
Slayed it. Premium quality pub rock.
Jaunty Wolverhampton numbers, evoke an age, but their more lasting tunes are not on here.
3- Stars (7/15)

I didn’t mind this at all, basic early 70’s rock n roll. Wasn’t crazy about the vocals, though. 3 stars.
Big dumb rock. Didn’t know if but I felt I’d heard it all before.
First thought was this belongs in the bargain bin with ZZ Top and AC/DC. However it's a little better than you average hair band. The Move Over cover is actually excellent. The songwriting isn't awesome but there is some decent playing
Slayed? Eh not so much
I hoped that this would be better. But it wasn't terrible
Rock, Glam-Rock? Solid album.
Really good specifically dated rock.
- Solid
What a ride through the history of rock music. I didn’t really know them but I liked the music.
At first, I thought this was a joke. It got better after the second song. Actually, the vocals are a joke. The music is banging, though. Yet again, the vocals will subtract from the rating. This is good straightforward 70's rock, and for that I will give it a 3. Favorite song was Candidate. I liked it enough to add it to my trivia playlist.
It was... Meh.
I was so ready to hate on this one because I find the cover really ugly to look at, but thankfully the music is pretty much really well performed and energetic glam rock. I think as time goes on with this challenge my inner boomer taste gets to have some fun with bands like this one who rock hard in the most basic of ways while also having the purest, rocking energy ever. It's just a fun listen though I enjoy it more in the front half of the album than in the back half, but either way I'm glad it was something I found enjoyable, more than the cover at least. This is also my last album of the year so Happy New Years!
Honestly liked this more than I thought I would. The album cover is, in my taste, truly horrible. The vibe is fairly puerile, but the artistry is real and it's quite energizing.
# Album Name: Slayed? # Artist: Slade # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: I always think of christmas when i think slade. I have got to be honest, i havent heard much more of em apart from come on feel the noise. Balls to cover a Janis tune. Wasnt a bad attempt but not a patch on the OG. I did like the edgey raw rock to it though. Goodbye Jane was probably my fave track on the album followed by Mamaaaa were all crazee now. Overall just an alright album with a couple of good tracks. # Top Tunes: Goodbye T'Jane / Gudbuy Gudbuy / Mamaaaa were all crazee now # Would I listen to it again? It was OK. Probably listen to a track here or there. Not sure if id listen to it as a whole again anytime soon.
Pretty good. Ihan kivasti vaihtelua ja erilaisuutta. Ei silti lemppari.
Good. Probably sounds cheesy now.
Jeez, this takes me back. I think this was released pre Glam Rock where most of their hits (and there were a lot of them) came from. Good to know they're all still with us as well.
Fun?
Fun, old times. Is what I imagine at least.
Love some old school hard rock every now and again but it can get too samey after a while The lyrics and vocals are quite cringe but that's common with all glam rock. The riffs and the bass make up for it If I wanted to listen to some glam rock/metal I probably wouldn't choose these over the likes of KISS or Skid Row
This was 80s glam a decade early. I have to give credit where it's due. They were on the cutting edge before hair metal was a thing, and it seems like many bands took from Slade. I was shocked I knew many of these songs which would be covered by later American bands.
Fun but sounds old-fashioned to me and I don't really care for the singer
Om eerlijk te zijn ken ik Slade enkel van hun kerstnummer. Klinkt een beetje zoals Status Quo. Glam-dad rock, maar dan een matige versie ervan. 2.6
I grew up listening to essential classic rock albums that my Dad showed me. Somehow never even heard of this one. I can see why, my Dad didn't like this type of stuff, and he was probably deep into the English Prog scene instead of this at the time. You also don't hear anyone referencing this album as a greatest all time. I was glad to check out a new album from this era. I didn't mind it when I was listening to (only skipped one song after it got on my nerves), but I probably won't be going back and listening to it anytime soon.
It's the party version of AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. They won't win the Nobel prize for literature. I enjoyed it, but I skipped the bonus tracks. Favorite song: look at last night.
decent
Melkosta kikkeliheviä. Tai kikkelirokkia. Move Over on tuttu. Ihan jämäkkää kamaa. Parhaat: Move Over, Man Who Speeks Evil
Surprisingly mature and serious album Only heard there cheesey stuff before.
Too hard to listen to, but for their genre I think they're good.
More British rock? Really? Of the past 5 albums (including this one), 4 of them have been British rock. I know that's a broad label, but I still want more variety than that! But hey, at least they're all good albums, right? Well, I did quite like those Suede, Coldplay, and Manic Street Preachers albums I got earlier this week. I gave them all 4s! Is Slayed? also a 4? No. I wouldn't say so. This album isn't very interesting to me. The singing is alright. It's not bad, but not my favorite. It's kind of like a weaker Robert Plant at times. The sound is somewhat repetitive, but is decent enough for it to not be a huge deal. It's still noticeable though. The writing is also okay. It is similarly repetitive to a degree that isn't infuriating, but is still noticeable. I definitely wouldn't call this a bad album. I see the value in it. Nothing here is particularly bad. However, it's not special enough for me to particularly care about it. Maybe on another day I'd give it a lower score, but I'll give it a light 3/5 for now.
it's not exactly groundbreaking but they're perfect songs for throwing on a jukebox plus i walked over noddy holder's star in broad street pretty much every day for three years
3.5/5. Were you slade or were you slayed?
80’s hair band. Burn the house down hard rock. I had to wade through the repetition of the extended edition. Seems like they played everything three times. When I was 16 this was the balls. Now I’m ambivalent.
i thought it was fine. Found it was weird that i had never heard of the album nor the band
furðulegt mál, talsvert leiðinlegt til að byrja með. hressist þegar líða tekur á. set þetta á 3,5.
Generic 70s rock, it’s fine
Has its moments
Please do not let alvin the chipmunk sing again
I may have learned that a band called slade was behind cum on feel the noize, but still defaulted to thinking it was twisted sister most days. So this was pretty much all new to me as a thing that existed. I'd heard one of the songs though. These guys are ridiculous in the best way - like the darkness. Silly spellings. Slow songs are best on this one, but respect the partying attitude.
The wailing vocals on this album are excellent. Lead singer Noddy Holder sounds like he’s shredding his voice at the end of a concert — and he sounds like that on every song. Occasionally his style has a touch of Robert Plant, one of the all-time rock wailers. Oh wait, hold up. They’re covering Janis Joplin on "Move Over"? Holder is clearly a fan of those screaming vocals then. Very ambitious to cover Joplin and actually try to sing like her but he pulls it off! My initial impression after the first two songs was that these guys sounded like a second-rate T.Rex — and there are a few glam-rock numbers here that could still fit that description — but they're more than that. They have energy, man. They're the sort of band that believes rock should be loud, in-your-face and fun. This album checks those boxes. The crunchy blues song "I Don't Mind" was a highlight too.
The rock and roll is passable, but it's the manic vocal hooks that drive this roadster. Slade bore easily though and so do I. Favorite track: the sleazy swamp stomp "I Don't Mind" ("I danced on your face / It seemed the best place / for acting the fool").
I always lumped Glam in with hair metal, my mistake. This list has shown me the difference and I have to admit I like Glam but still hate hair metal. This album is fun and kind of silly, the music is catchy and upbeat but I prefer T rex
Decent enough 70’s rock
Pretty good straight Up Glam Rock with a hint of Hardrock. The lead singer has a voice that really fits the music but definitely have to be in the mood for this one. Right now it’s a 3/5 but gonna give it another listen soon
This was a pleasant surprise. Never heard of the band but enjoyed the album. The songs were all decent length, great guitar and vocals. Can't believe I've never heard of them.
Learn to spell Noddy. It didn't do loads for me to be honest, although Mama We're All Crazy Now (see - spelling is easy) is a bop and a half.
I mean, it’s rock. Not bad. But I don’t know if I’d listen to it again.
When you get to the Janis Joplin cover everything clicks and you realize what this is a lesser version of.
Albumi #29, 25.08.2024 Sladen parhaaksi levyksi tituleerattu Slayed? on takuuvarmaa 70-luvun britti-rockia.
These guys are excited about their bowl cuts. 3.5
I use this term a lot, but this just seems so generic, when you look at their contemporaries they dont really offer anything different, outside of a bit of a cross between Foreigner and AC/DC. Its a very beige album, royalty free rock. You could easily slip this in the background of a movie of some dressed up dorks walking into a biker bar.
Basically the most generic 70s rock music you can imagine. It’s enjoyable but there’s nothing here you haven’t heard before
Second half is surprisingly much better than the first and it really grew on me. ACDC comparisons make sense but Slade shows an ability to diversify their sound more.
first listen they're fun but seem like they're in the shadow of some much better and more noteworthy bands in the same genre
It ain't bad.
Glam rock, it started to grow on me in the middle but then I got tired of it. Stand-out: Gudbuy T'Jane
Slayed? Is a question. The answer is yes.
I didn't love this at first, but by side 2 I was rocking along with it.
This took the second listen to make me even remotely interested in what I was hearing. At that point, I still wasn't loving it though...just kind of tolerating it today.
It’s possible that this listen suffered from too many other albums like this (many or most perhaps following in this album’s footsteps?). But I was bored mostly by this and wasn’t sad when I finished listening.
I get the feeling that these guys sounded fresh and interesting in the early 70's but to me they just sound like a parody and maybe they are just having fun. Weirdly enough, the wikipedia article calls out Look at Last Nite as a standout track but on both listens I have no memory at all of that song. Fave? I don't know, maybe Let The Good Times Roll/Feel So Fine
Not bad but doesn't particularly stand out for me. It's lively and I like Noddy's vocals, he's a got a great voice for a glam rock singer. The covers are pretty good.
Never really listened to Slade - before my time. They're another interesting 2nd tier band. Interesting to hear connections with Bowie and Beatles coming through the Glam Rock - Wandering Y and Man Who Speaks Evil were favourites
Good straight ahead rock. Early Zeppelin singing style mixed with Aerosmith’s early straight ahead rhythm, Stones vibes. Band had more good tracks than just Cum on Feel the Noise. 3/5
Interesting record. Was better than I thought it was going to be. Sort of The Who meets Alice Cooper.
Fun glam rock album Standout songs: Gudbuy Gudbuy Mama weer all crazee now Let the Good Times Roll
3 stars. mid
3+
Couple of cool songs on here
Fun but not outstanding. Best song: Look at Last Nite. 3.5
Some nice songs
This was fun listen with a nice classic rock sound. It might be one of the better glam rock albums on this list, while clearly taking inspiration from some of its predecessors.
theyre a fun bunch of blokes aren'ey
Just a good fun glam rock album, deserves to be on the list.
Spayed.
I really thought walking into this that it would be some AC/DC wannabe band but they’re actually pretty good even if somewhat similar. There’s also a pinch of glam-rock here that I did not expect to enjoy
Its okay, but feels a bit safe and bland at times
Great tunes from the masters of glam rock. Make yourself a Cup-a-Soup, sit in your comfy chair, and give it a listen. 3.5 stars.
Pretty ok
Weirdly varied but can't stand all the talking st the end
Palletable.
Catchy and solid album. Reminded me a bit of some of the Nazareth hits I have heard on the radio. on the 3 side of 3.5 for me.
They're definitely a rock band.
I grew up listening to classic rock radio, so I was primed to enjoy this. It's refreshing to get an album from this period of early 70s rock that hasn't been played to death. And the Janis Joplin cover is great. It's certainly not intellectual and I don't think it's pushing any boundaries, but boy could you drink to it. Highlights: Look at Last Nite, Move Over, Gudbuy T'Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Let the Good Times Roll / Feel so Fine
By track 2, I was ready to welcome this in my club of losers, but the album turned the corner, scraping, mainly thanks to the vocals. Which are kinda cool. Do I like it, nah, but the whole thing quite honestly rocks, I will admit. In a way that made me conjure a mental image of Beavis & Butthead, but they're wearing Paisley shirts. I learned something from it, though: if I'll never hear a sliding rock'n'roll piano again, it'll be too soon.
Nice bit of glam
Aw, Noddy and the boys sure do raise a smile. Is this an amazing record? No. Is this a fun record? Definitely. Is that an underrated quality in a record? Absolutely.
I've never really gotten into slade though I like their big hits. This just wasn't that memorable for me.
This is quite a fun album. Unfortunately, the songwriting isn't quite there, except for the opening tracks and, of course, Mama Weer All Crazee Now. 6/10, a little underwhelming for album number 100
3+
Oo a bit of Slade. Noddy’s rasp got a bit too grating after a few songs in but then seemed to soften.
It's kind of alright but not really sure how the group got so big. They sound like they look - pretty ugly.
Slade is the kind of Glam Rock that has aged bad. Certainly compared to David Bowie, T Rex and even Mott The Hoople. The music is just 1970s rock with a bit of humor. It's a bit genetic now without the visuals of a live show.
Glam rock, hard rock. Escuchable.
I’m more of a fan of the later Beatles stuff, but this is still a good listen.
Straight rock.
Meh
Sounds surprisingly like a Rock n Roll Beatles knockoff, but in an authentic way. It's definitely brit influenced (as is half this list really). Hard for me to say what this is really adding compared to other stuff I've listened to from this project. It's certainly interesting but also kind of 'generic' and doesn't stand out from the crowd. To be fair, I'm coming off of Muddy Waters and some wild tango infused trip-hop which were both just really fun, and this is good but not outstanding in the same way. I do find it really interesting that they originally wrote Cum on Feel the Noize (which appears on a previous album), which I associate with Quiet Riot who covered it a decade later - why couldn't we have that Slade album instead?
Very difficult to not think of them entirely in the context of Christmas, but they were of course one of the leaders in glam rock. Now, I don't particularly like glam rock, but there's some fine tracks here - largely where Noddy (no giggling now) really opens the pipes.
Never heard of Slade, and I feel mind of conflicted about this album. There were parts that were really not for me, but then there were some bangers sprinkled throughout. I really liked Look at Last Nite, I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen, and I Don't Mind. The rest is pretty boring 70s rock to me. Glad I listened, don't think I'll be back again though.
This was ok.
Nobby shouts for half an hour. I enjoyed bits of it but was ready for it to end.
Better than I'd expected... and more glam rock too!
Some albums can be judged by their covers or, more precisely, the haircuts thereon. Broad '70s stompiness and sizzly licks meant to titillate the bell-bottomed adolescent masses, glam for the non-thinking man. The Joplin cover is not especially successful. One must take exception to editorial assessment: simple and stupid – yes; sublime – not so much. Endearingly imbecilic is more like it. Seems mostly innocent in intent and empty-headed in execution. Though "Gudbuy Gudbuy" approaches sounding something like edginess (silly spelling notwithstanding), it's hard to believe 17 big hits from this yobby lot. Probably a 5 for being a near-perfect manifestation of what it set out to do, but just too willfully stupid to rate it so.
Ugh. It’s fine for what it is. They’re a solid product of their time, while innovating nothing. Not as good as the Beatles, the Stones, or Zeppelin who they clearly bite from. If I wanted more of that sound, this would be great but really I’m tired of this kind of music both from this playlist and from it being used in commercials to sell all kinds of crap my whole life, and from being bombarded with “classic rock” radio all of the place for decades. Nothing essential to a complete life to be found on this album.
Brit Party 70s Rock.
First time hearing them - a good ol rock band.
Se lo pasan bien, eso seguro.
Sometimes, the most cliché is everything you need to.
I don't think I've ever heard of Slade before, but this was a pretty fun album. These guys have some decent chops when it comes to hard rock. The guitars and drumming were good, and I liked Noddy Holder's vocals. As much as the purposeful misspelling of the song titles and album title were a unique touch, they weren't really enough to make this album a memorable listen. In the crowded field of 70's hard rock, Slade doesn't really stand out to me. This album was kind of like a roller coaster: sure, it was fun while it was happening, but when you're not on the ride, it's hard to feel that sensation again. I guess it's more succinct to say that this album just isn't terribly memorable. Other seventies hard rock acts Kiss and AC/DC have some absolute ear worms, and that's what's missing from this album. I'm still glad I got to branch out and listen to this album, but it was pretty middle of the road.
Not great, not terrible. Interesting to learn that Cum On Feel the Noise wasn't originally Quiet Riot. That's about all I'm going to say about this album. nothing special.
This was fine, not something I'll remember.
It feels a little weird that my favourite cuts on this are the covers of Janis Joplin and Quiet Riot. 5/10 3 stars
Right after getting the evil Kollaps album, we get this shit. Just another classic rock band, British guys with a few rock anthems. No, it's not a bad album, it's decent. But why should this list be so packed with decent albums? Even if you give Kollaps one star, it made you FEEL something, right? The violent urge to cut your ears off is still a feeling, this album is the exhalation of air through the nose when your friend sends you a meme. We don't need this. Favorite tracks: Look at Last Nite, Let the Good Times Roll, Man Who Speaks Evil. Album art: This is actually quite clever, a play on confusion as to the band's name. Is it Slade? Are they saying "slayed?" Who was slayed, Slade? Who's on first? Band photo made a lot better by the bit, the guy on the right is goofy as shit. 3/5
Meh wasn't terrible. Just did not care for it.
Interesting album with some good guitar riffs, though the jarring swings from hard rock to blues rock to the beetles(?) felt disjointed. Great energy that never quite feels earned or fully does the job of making something special. Would probably be a 2.5.
We're all crazy now.
Feels like a precursor to 80s hair metal but still rooted in 70s classic rock. I love the snarl of the lead singer. It feels like KISS and AC/DC but still having a bit of connection to 60s rock.
This was a decent glam/hard rock album by a band I’d never heard of. While it was enjoyable enough, not much of it stuck with me. Additionally, the 70s have plenty of better examples of glam and hard rock. Nevertheless, there were some good riffs.
3.25
kind of what I expected, but better. Slade are very Slade. Noddy's voice is about as distinctive as it gets. It's good, honest 70s rock. Tougher in places than I expected. I have a lot of respect for it.
סביר...
It was ok, I liked the opener a lot. It had good songs, but overall I ‘d say this was just ok.
Pretty cool! Its listenable, sounds just like some anonymous rock band but a good one!
Solid 70s rock album
Slayed? I do like Slade’s greatest hits but I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an actual album of theirs. How d’ You Ride. Exactly what you might expect from the opening song to a Slade album. The Whole Worlds Going Crazee. At their best these stomping 50s style glam rockers with big choruses seem so effortless and fun, but this one is a bit of a struggle Look at Last Nite is great though, love the bluesy groove and the sinewy bass and it’s a nice change of tempo. The fade out is a bit abrupt though. I Won’t let it ‘Appen is nice too, again a welcome rhythmic variation with great bass. The cover of Move Over is fine with its satisfyingly crunchy guitars. Gudbuy T’Jane - classic Slade. I like to think Dan sings this with his guitar to Jane every time she leaves the house. Love the dynamic between the guitar and bass on the riff, very satisfying. Gudbuy Gudbuy. Have to admire the consistency in their spellings. Has it’s moments but a bit meat and two veg. Mama Weer All Crazee Now - more classic Slade, along with Cum on Feel the Noize this is probably the apogee of their sound. Love it. I Don’t Mind. I don’t mind it. I feel like every band in the 70s covered Let the Good Times Roll, and aside from the energetic performance I’m not sure what this brings. Overall I guess it depends on whether you like Noddy’s voice and whether you like their musical template. I like both so I enjoyed this a lot. There’s is a bit more musical subtlety than might be expected, Don Powell is a very good drummer and Jim Lea is a very good all round musician - I particularly like his bass after the choruses in Gudbuy T’Jane for example. And they do move slightly out of the stomping lane from time to time, which is very welcome. It’s a very fun listen, it has no pretensions or ambitions beyond what it is, but has enough musical interest to it bear related listens. It lands somewhere between 3 and 4, but I’ll go for a very enjoyable three ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ps My Life is Natural, the first bonus track and b-side of Coz I Love You is the Led Zep/Pinball Wizzard mash up we didn’t know we needed. I think Rush might also have taken some of the melody for Tom Sawyer
Rolou bem, boas doses de um rock clássico em que o o ponto alto foi a cover da Janes Joplin.
I can't take Slade seriously after all this time. This is a fun listen though for sure. I only recognise mama were all crazee. Best songs besides that, Move Over, Gudbuy Gudbuy.
Wish this album was on apple music. Had to track it down on YouTube. Would listen again, good 80s sounding rock
Favourite tracks: mama weer crazee now
Non
Slayed? Gud al’bum, vut not slayed
It was something... definitely. But they did not slayed that hard. Mid. 5/10
Bright and energetic, if a bit samey
weird sounding album. It strandles this line of being heavy blues or early metal. yea whatever.
Good
This makes me think if the Beatles and Van Halen had a musical baby. Not as bad as I was expecting this record to be. Kind of a fun record.
These guys could pump out AC/DC or Zeppelin b-sides all day. Interesting to hear the intersection of these bands and the Beatles. Earnest and energetic but not enough to win me over for another listen.
Okay
It rocks hard so it’s ok with me. A bit long.
Pretty fun! I’ve always thought of Slade as a novelty act on account of their inescapable Christmas hit, but this shows that they had real chops when it comes to writing entertaining, meat and potatoes rock. Not my cup of tea, but still good.
Standouts: Move Over, Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me, Cumn on Feel The Noize, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, I Don' MInd, Take Me Back 'Ome, Kind of annoying, but gud. 3.5
i wont let it happen agan,
This just misses the mark of being up my alley. I love the energy -- it sounds like they're having a blast -- but the vocals were a little grating to me, and there weren't many memorable songs to my mind. This would be a great soundtrack to a barfight, but for a more casual listen, not so much. To be fair, it's probably better than the glam rock it later inspired.
Hm...I'll admit that I have perhaps never knowingly heard Slade before this. The first few tracks makes me wonder if they were influential on later bands, as there's a sort of AC/DC vibe to something like "How D'You Ride?" and a general southern rock vibe to some of their songs, plus plenty of echoes from later mediocre glam bands like Quiet Riot and Twisted Slayer. But I guess it doesn't seem all that distinctive or memorable, and the quality of the lyrics *really* leaves something to be desired (along with the embarrassing song titles); it probably says more about the "Classic Rock" magazine/site than the band that it considers this album an "essential classic." It also didn't sound horrible, thankfully, and I won't hold it against them that the YouTube Music link provided extra (painful) songs that weren't on the original release. (Hence the wishy-washy 3 stars.) I *did* think it was funny that the album cover screamed to me that this was a British (English) band, despite almost none of them showing their teeth. And one guess which of them is the drummer, right?
Actually really liked it.
#128 band prompt: What if Ac/dc, but also The Who? 3/5: I'm not really sure what I think about this, honestly
This is more of a 3.5 i started off not loving the album. But after a while i dug the texture of the production, the glam of the guitar, and the fun lyrics. It sounds like a heavier beatles, like helter skelter but a little more rockin and heavy.
2.6 - I think it was fine, nothing iconic
Cool blues driven hard rock.
Sometimes they take me back to the first Queen...
Kind of interesting, more that I expected, but finally, it all sounds too similiar.
I really don't know what to think about this album. It's a relatively early heavy rock album, but there were plenty of hard rock albums that paved the way for this one. In some ways, it sounds like a lesser version of Led Zeppelin. It's not a bad listen, since the songs are pretty fun, but it tends to fade into the background as the songs drag on 3/5
This is the kind of band that the movie This is Spinal Tap probably had in mind. Very 60s/70s Brit rock. A bit dated, pretty goofy, but still fun.
Bar 3.5, dobar album za raditi.
Expertly crafted bluesy power pop. Pretty good. Doesn't rock my world but enjoyable enough.
Y’know what
Love the album name and it’s fun enough! That’s about all I can say.
Está bien. Leyendo que era glam rock, va bastante más duro de lo que pensaba que iba a ir.
I don't think I've ever heard of these guys but they have 9.6m listeners on spotify. They sound like a lot of 70s hard rock. Not bad. News to me that Cum On Feel the Noise isn't a Quiet Riot original.
I'll be honest, SUPER low expectations after seeing the album cover...pleasantly surprised. Some good guitar, vocals and overall I enjoyed this.
Knee jerk reaction was that these guys reminded me of Quiet Riot. Turns out that popular Quiet Riot song, Cum On Feel The Noize, was actually written by Slade. These guys are like hard rock lite. The music just feels a bit unfinished. I'm not sure what it's missing, but there's something lacking. That's not to say the music is bad, it's just a bit lighter than I'm used to with this genre. Favourite songs: Gudbuy T'Jane, "I'm Mee, I'm Now, An' That's Orl", Let The Good Times Roll/Feel So Fine, How D'You Ride, The Whole World's Goin' Crazee, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, My Life is Natural Least favourite songs: Candidate 3/5
