jurava que esse site só ia me recomendar albuns do ano 2000 pra baixo, que legal que temos alguns recentes. e que achado é o modern kosmology, que gostoso de ouvir. instrumentais que me lembram bastante beach house e air, e a voz da jane weaver que me lembrou bastante cocteau twins. amei que fechou com chave de ouro com uma faixa tão linda como a I Wish favoritas: modern kosmology, slow motion, the architect, valley e i wish

Had never heard of this album or artist before, but it's almost as if it were created especially for my taste. Love the motorik beats; sounds like a mixture of Can, Stereolab and Lush. I've already listened to this multiple times over the past couple of days, and I'm excited to explore more by this artist.

fand ich SOOO GUT whimsical feminine vibes

Really loved this today! Something quirky about it, but also ethereal.. very beautiful. Love discovering new artists through this project, 5/5

holy shit what an opener. H>A>K is genuinely awesome. very excited for this. i’ve never heard of this artist or this album before. the production on this is so cool. it’s super hazy and impenetrable, but it really works for this. did you see butterflies? was another class act song. incredible. modern kosmology is also incredible. i don’t have much to say about this other than it scratches my brain good. good album to put on and sit with. did not care for the intro to slow motion, immediately took me out :( for some reason it’s mixed way higher than everything else so far. it’s not a bad song, it’s fine. but it’s super weird on this album. okay it’s not that weird after being midway through the next song. i really like loops in the secret society. the architect and the lightning back were both gorgeous. and the bass line underneath the chorus in valley is genuinely beautiful.

really enjoyed this

145 albums in, and this is the first one that doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. I really have no idea what I'm in for because that Wikipedia page reads more like a long press release page that only updates when Jane Weaver does a new album or tour. Early on, I really like Jane's blending of her voice to the synthesizers at work, some great production hear with the jangly guitar riffs on Did You See Butterflies? The self-titled track is a good dreamy sounding follow up that reminds me of some of Rosalie Cunningham's work. Some of the rhythms on this album remind me a mixture of Velvet Underground and Faust (so I guess the krautrock tag wasn't too bullshit). The architect is a banger as a synth nerd. Total kick ass synthing on that one. More fun synth arps and usage on The Lightening Back. Valley is a 60s-sounding folk song, or otherwise has that throwback vibe. Ravenspoint and I Wish are fun tracks to end the album on. Modern Kosmotogy is definitely a surprise gem of the list, but it's status of being essential is something I'm still scratching my head about. It's hard to know in the moment whether or not an album that just came out is going to be something that will withstand the tests of time of being supergreat, and I couldn't tell you 9 years later that this is definitely a "must hear or die regret not hearing it" or its importance on music or cultural impact. I still find the list to be eurocentric and doesn't highlight enough Middle Eastern or Asian influences (and can always add more afrobeat in my biased opinion). I know a lot of popular music worldwide came from America and England, but I think someone like Bad Bunny or Daddy Yankee could easily be on this list with how influential they are to Latin American music. Do we really needed to feel like the safe solution to putting a more recently modern record to the list instead of an older, better known album from across the world that impacted more people over an album that isn't even properly recognized by the world's greatest crowdfunding encyclopedia project? I'm gonna have to end that stream of consciousness tangent there, with the album selection criticism being fully warranted imo, but not to distract that this IS a good album. Really Good? All time must hear till you die good? I mean I'm really not sure about that. 9 years later, I'm not seeing a lot of people citing Jane Weaver or this album for the reason there's a new music scene or genre propping up. Wait a minute, Charli xcx isn't even on this list? YOU PUT THE WRONG BRITISH WOMAN THAT LITERALLY HELPED INFLUENCE A WHOLE MUSIC SCENE OR GENRE THAT WOULD MAKE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE SENSE IF YOU PUT IT THERE WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Had never heard this but really liked it

This feels like a surprisingly obscure inclusion, but I immediately felt like it was a welcome and worthy one. The blend of synth and shoegaze textures create an incredibly immersive listening experience I’m sure to return to again and again. H>A>K lures you in slowly before drawing you along amid hazy beats and ethereal vocals, then Did You See Butterflies? brings in the human melancholy. By the time we hit Loops In The Secret Society, I’m firmly entranced and entrenched. The spoken-word passage in Ravenspoint was a little distracting at first, but it worked for me the 2nd time through. As the final track, Wish, ends it ominously fades back up and creates a perfect loop with track one, letting you repeat the cycle again. Just wow. It’s the first time the project has given me an album by someone I’d never heard of and left me feeling like I’d found a new addition to my favorite artists. Excited to delve into more of Jane Weaver’s music.

On my second play through and absolutely loving this journey. The synths are so luscious and her voice is so beautifully calming and familiar. I'm really confused how this album (and all of her work) has seemingly flown under the radar of critics. Love the drum shuffle and overall psychedelic air on Modern Kosmology. Feels a bit like a warm puff of air. Slow Motion is a standout to me. The backing instrumental reminds me of a happier, slightly more awake Beach House. Really enjoy the energy on Lightning Back as well. One of few albums on this list that have come as a complete surprise and completely blown me away. This was a delightful trip end to end deserving of a solid 5 in my book.

Jane Weaver, I don't know what I expected you to sound like, but it was definitely not that. I have to put more respect on your name. That was one incredibly trippy and awesome album. Not sure at all how someone in this style of music and is on this list only has 39k monthly listeners on Spotify. Also I kept listening after the album to the random songs that come up and she had two more great songs come on. This is an incredibly high 4 and really almost snuck into a 5 it was just missing a little something to get there. ****Changed this to a 5 after a second listen. It is too good

I absolutely loved this on my run yesterday, and wanted to give it another listen just to confirm. And yes I still love it. Kinda reminds me of a blend between Stereolab, Beach House, and Cate Le Bon. In love with Loops in the Secret Society. The dissonant guitar in the back really reminds me of Can. Super krautrocky. Remember loving the Architect on my run yesterday. Felt like I was running down rainbow road to it. Definitely thought it was Flea with some of the spoken word stuff, but after some digging it looks like its a guy from Can. The krautrock all makes sense now. The more I listen the more it's an eerie blend of Stereolab and Can. Something about this album just had me in a trance for the entirety of it. What a strange, psychedelic, groovy ride.

This was such a great surprise. Jane Weavers voice is hauntingly beautiful. At times this reminded me of Carina around in Puscifer. There are some electronic and psychedelic sounds going on. This record actually makes me want to go back and listen to the last 2 Puscifer records as I’ve had them on the back burner for some time… But this record was interesting from start to finish. Not my usual order of coffee but it definitely tasted good.

Holy shit this album is incredible. How did they find this? It doesn't even have a wikipedia page. Beautifully produced and great use of sounds. They really pierce my ear holes in the best way possible. This album is one of those gems that makes this whole generator worth it, cause how else was I ever going to hear of it

i think it's probably pretty dubious to have ever included this in the book, but it's right up my alley so I'm not complaining

I listened to this once and thought it was all right. Listened again and I might be obsessed. Hypnotic with shades of The Bevis Frond.

I loved it off the first listen 🎧 and added many off these songs to my "jazz radio" 📻 playlist and I can't wait to start seeing albums where the artist is genuinely my one of my favs and leads me to listen 👂 to others by the artist 🧑‍🎨! Either way I love ❤️ this album💿!

loved!! what a vibe.

I like the vibe

Great stuff. So unusual. Superb etherial voice over calm electronica, and frenetic drumming. Give me more!

Splendid album

хороший, оч нравятся переходы между треками

Wow- this album sets the tone right from the start. The songs and her voice are hypnotizing. I really enjoyed Modern Kosmology- I see why they named the album after this track.

This was great! A real discovery of exciting new music. I can't wait to listen to more Jane

The beats, the atmospheric sounds, all of it I love.

Really dug this one. Feels like a mix of krautrock, 80's synth work, and a little bit of PJ Harvey. 4.5 bumped up to 5.

I’m at a 4.5, and I think I’ll bump it up to a 5 for my tastes. I just vibed with this too much. Here’s a scattering of genres that Spotify has applied to this thing: “psychedelic”, “space rock”, “french jazz” (?), “diner” (??), “krautrock”, “chamber psych”, & “art pop”. I have no real idea how to classify all of that into one album, but if I had to apply a genre to this thing, it would be “down my alley” – I’m a sucker for a good synth-led album with a little indie rock/pop in it, and this scratched an itch to my ears that we haven’t *really* dabbled with too much throughout the 651 albums we’ve gotten so far. The closest thing my brain has is “Vespertine” by Bjork mixed with parts of “american dream” by LCD Soundsystem, and even then, I think this album does something different. There are definitely “krautrock” elements here, assuming I have the genre right to my brain; a lot of pulsating synths, mildly repetitive beats that do a good job of slowly layering on top of each other – where a band like Can (whose former lead vocalist has a guest spot here as the narrator on "Ravenspoint") or a guy like Holger Czukay might use that as a chance to drive down a harsher tone, it’s used here as a way to enhance some of the more ethereal parts of the album. The ethereal parts of the album worked really well for me; while listening, I wrote down that “it feels like audible Shoegaze / a comprehensible Cocteau Twins track” for the first 3-4 tracks of the album, and that vibe pulled me in really nicely. Yes, a few tracks go a little long because of it, but I never found myself actively annoyed by it. Once this album hits track 4, I think it leans far more into an electronica vibe, yet still keeping more of the pulsating rhythms of the first 3 tracks in a way that feels more natural. My brain’s immediate comparison is to Valve’s soundtrack for Portal 2, yet there’s an indie rock lean here that’s a bit understated. That vibe shifts again by Tracks 8 & 9, where the album feels like it leans far more into ambience & atmosphere as its driving tone, complimented by some of the more pulsating elements being pulled back & some lovely imagery from the lyrics on “Valley”, & the sort of spaced-out, sci-fi tone of “Ravenspoint”, with the reverb-heavy vocals fitting the tone nicely. “I Wish”, the closing track, sounded like a slower version of “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, which I just really fucked with. Vocally, there’s a lot of Bjork comparisons here, yet with a little bit more melody in her voice. Could just be the lack of an accent, I dunno. Lyrically, I didn’t have a clue half the time, but I think the general scope of the lyricism helped to enhance each track; there’s a lot of science-y / mathematical references in here, which certainly fits for an album titled “Modern Kosmology”. I don’t think the lyrics matter that much anyway; a lot of this album is about getting caught / lost in the vibes, and this album just hit on the vibes really nicely for me. It’s certainly not an album for everyone; I understand some of the 2’s & 3’s here, as you just have to have a taste for this style. It’s also not the most special album; I’m not going to complain and say “you don’t need to hear this before you die”, because I’m very glad I heard it & I would recommend it, but it does feel like a sort of token indie pick for a more recent version of the book while giving a nod to a blend of genres that hasn’t really popped up too much. Overall though, I did fuck with this a lot; a few tracks just didn’t wow me as much & or they went a little long, but the entire 44 minute package scratched an itch for me. I don’t think there’s a bad track here, and I think it’s a super easy album to listen to, both in a focused / casual listen (since I’ve been listening to it while writing this very review & still vibing with it all the same). I’m just a sucker for the style, I think, so take my enjoyment with a grain of salt. Regardless, I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5.

Very good

Never heard of her before, let alone heard her music, but I was completely blown away by this album. Or maybe mesmerised is the right word. The production, the lyrics, the melodies—all are stunning on a first listen, blending folk, electronica, and pop. First time I’m giving 5 stars to an album I didn’t already know and love.

Chillaxy

I could see this album landing in my regular rotation. Perhaps best listened to at night.

This was a fun one! Overall refreshing and interesting listen.

Yeah okay this is a certified banger. I can't really say why it's on this list either, but it IS good shit, and pretty consistently good shit at that!

WE GOT DREAMPOP CHILL INDIE ON THE ALBUM LIST!!! THIS WHOLE CHALLENGE HAS BEEN WORTH IT!!!

A pleasant surprise; why haven't I heard of this before? An inventive folk/electronic art pop album. I think I know The Architect feon somewhere, but not sure where. I probably shouldn't give it a five with only two listens, but idk, it's pretty great

Me conquistó desde el primer track. No había escuchado a Jane Weaver y sus melodías inquietantes, junto a su voz onírica, me calaron profundamente. Quiero escucharle más cosas, pero de entrada este se va con sus cinco estrellotas.

I really quite liked this. Really reminded me of Radiohead which I love.

very good start and stays good until the end

weird and good

Mesmerizing

Great chill drone pop album lovely voice

Just amazing all around, plus it was released on may 19th which is my birthday so that's cool Favorite: Loops in the Secret Society

I'd not heard of Jane Weaver before this, but I won't forget her now that I've heard this album. I loved everything about this and I'm happy to have a new artist to listen to. Favorite track is Did You See Butterflies?

So lovely. I want all the songs on all my playlists

Kind of a weird psychedelic indie rock album. I really like that kind of music though.

Like the Cranberries but better!

Okay so I’ll admit this album had a leg up on me from the get go because there was a Jill Weaver who I went to middle school with and was a total babe and we were boyfriend girlfriend for almost a whole week and I almost saw her boobies once so I of course thought of better times when I pulled this up, but it’s legitimately great!!

SO GOOD

The future of Velvet Underground.

Really cool album. Lots of psychedelic sounds, lots of songs very drone-y with cool swirling sounds throughout moved along by beats and bass lines. Lovely vocals, amazing production, very rewarding listening on headphones. Not catchy at all but will definitely reward in repeated listens.

Wow, I really enjoyed this. Dreamy vocals and rock-solid instrumentation that delivers a modern bedroom/indie pop-meets-psychedelic listening experience.

amazing albu, Karen O is an artistic genius

I’ve never heard of this person before and I REALLY LOVED THIS!! Added to my library. Great mix of acoustic and electronics in this.

en koskaan kyllästynyt kuunnellessani tätä musiikkia. musiikki soi kauniisti, kokoajan, kuulokkeet korvillani.

This was a very pleasant surprise. I normally prefer more full aggressive sounds but this was a treat. It was like listening to delicate clockwork, every element ticking a long right where it needed to be.

Finally, something brilliant.

How have I not heard of Jane Weaver?! How is she not more popular?! This is such a solid album from beginning to end. Sounds like one thing and was a great listen.

Like pure, ice cold water for my soul today. A marvelous blend of synths, deep rythmns, modern rock influence and pure artistic creativity. Mellow and clear vocals allow all elements of the music to fall into place and build this almost expansive universe of music. There is practically no empty space on this album. Even the down tempo sections groove and move the soul. I liken this album to mid era pink floyd. Genre blending mastery prior to their anthemic politically conscious music. Just plain good music, with production mastery. And pink was analog, this is digitized.

This is excellent! I've not heard of her, initially I was thinking of Jackie Weaver of the Handforth parish council, I'm so glad it wasn't her. It reminded me of Lush/ Stereolab/ Velvet Underground all mixed together in a minimalist droning way. There wasn't a bad track on this and I shall have a listen to her back catalogue.

This album was a pleasant surprise. Never heard of Jane Weaver before but the motorik beats pulled me in. Thoroughly enjoyable.

What a great fkn discovery! Great instrumentation, great vocals, amazing vibes.

great discovery! will be listening to it more

I'm not sure why this is on the list, but I'm enjoying it. The drumming is fantastic, the combination of krautrock, jazz, space rock, and synth pop is hitting the spot for me. The title track's 6/4 groove really cinched it for me. I will definitely come back to listen to this and maybe explore the rest of her catalog.

Never heard of her, and tbh I thought it was a man at first idk why. Genre is weird here, especially when Spotify says this is krautrock and art pop, those are good ones so I think this is gonna be good. Also 2017 is quite new and it's rare that 21 century is here, so happy about that. Unless it's overly slow and boring I think I'll enjoy this, no high expectations, but I really hope it won't be too bad. First song, oh what an intro-of-an-album start. THIS IS DEFINITELY ELECTRONIC YOU KIDDIN?! It's giving Lana plus Björk and I loooove them both. Oh god it feels like I'm travelling in space. Her voice is so transcending. Is this the chorus, cause it's veeery good. I can't keep up with writing, it's toooo gooood. The experimental sounds are such a treat too, sounds like UFOs tbh. This is sonically and lyrically equally good. It's close to the end and there's this progressive instrumental break and I love it, god I love it. It's becoming rocky, but also not. This was an outro basically, loooooved this, better keep up the work. Ooh god it transitioned into the Second song, bird noises nothing special for now. AAAAH THAT BEAT DROP, DEFINITELY SPECIAL NOW. Oooh now rock slowly joins in, this is heaven wow. Her voice is angelic. The production this good is a rare treasure, I am extremely impressed. Is this chorus, because she's singing differently and there's echoes in my right ear. Makes me feel like I'm floating in an endless space. This is some underrated shit I usually am looking for. What was that ending, spooked me a little, in a good way. Third song, soft rock start. Electronica joined, and now her amazing voice. Oooh this one has an album name. This must be the chorus and I love it a lot the sonical and lyrical interaction is the best part in it, also it's progressing sonically. She doesn't exactly have vocals, but not that it makes anything worse. This is like if Florence Welch had a soft voice instead of a powerful one. This is definitely permanent wave too(chorus might say otherwise tho), the best is quite mostly same, but not in a bad way. She's vocalising after the chorus and it is extremely good to hear her like that. It's ending so it's kind of fading away. A long song, but didn't even notice that. 4th song, fully different start, it's retro I think. Has a melancholic vibe to it. The almost fast talking is Del Rey all the way. OOOH THE SONICAL PART IMPROVED IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE, dunno how to explain that, GOOOOSH IT HAPPENED AGAIN, ANOTHER INSTRUMENT ADDED. Back to level one now. This is such an adventure in both sonical and lyrical delivery way. About that last part, the way she sings it's giving Mitski too. The magical instrument came in again. The overall vibe is very spacey. Ending is quite eerie, giving Daughter, but also not. 5th song, this is totally rock, the guitar part especially. Her way of singing always opposes her sonical delivery in a good way and I love it. This is what I mean by a good catchy sad song, not some basic shit I usually have to listen to here, this is not a grower, not the one that needs special ears to like it, it's such generally and in every other way good and satisfying to listen to, wish more artists had songs with the same description. This one's very permanent wave, so nothing dramatically changed, but she is singing in a different way rn, kind of fast I'd say. It's Hendrix style rock rn(not exactly tho). Also definitely a headphones song, because sounds are divided into each ear. Endings are always different with this girl. 6th song, it's giving that there's gonna be a good beat drop at some point. I WAS FUCKING RIGHT OOOO I LOVE THIS ALREADY. What instrument am I hearing rn, it's too good. She's more lively here too. The production is absolutely magnificent on each song, can't describe how good they sound, which will become better and better with each listen I'm sure. This magical instrument I can't name is the best part in the song. I refused to write any more here, just enjoyed the overall goodness of it. AAAH AT THE END SHE ENHANCED HER VOICE AND SANG THE CHORUS IN THE BEST WAY AND RIGHT AWAY TRANSITIONED INTO THE 7th song, beat almost instantly started. This is some Lana plus Mitski voice again. The beat is again retro and melancholic. Oh she's vocalising quite differently, and the beat is getting progressive. Oh beat is blurred in the background and smth is playing in my right ear, back to normal quite quickly. Everything stopped for some time and now only beat is playing, god I love this woman already. 8th song, computery sounds at first, now it's dramatic orchestra and birds. Fully changed and it's soft rock now I suppose. There's a wind whistling sound in my left ear(sounds like it at least). One of the saddest lyrical delivery she has done here. The beat is quite basic, I mean it's used in many other songs too, OH BUT NOT THIS GUITAR IN MY RIGHT EAR. I'm happy every song doesn't sound like this here, cuz this one's kinda empty and not full of sounds. There's a violin now playing in the background with that guitar on the right, now it's full. Ending was with bass only also with some futuristic sounds. 9th song, first time someone is talking and it's a man. She's echoing on what the man said. Her voice is distinct in a weird way. Not a clear word I've heard for now. She's echoing herself now, the way it's delivered it's almost scary. There's a guitar on the right veeery lightly tho. Oh the man is talking again, he said the same thing, tho I love the way he says it. There's that instrument playing you blow in and it makes a soujd(idk how I forgot the name), but there are also violins around. It's quietly chaotic and I love that. He saying something different and it's cunty in a good way. I heard drums at some point, weiiird. Ooh ending basically transitioned into the 10th song, start slowly turned into a catchy guitar/bass beat. There's a different sound on the right. Her vocals are low-key different. Ooooooo the chorus is really good, sonically progressing and she vocals in a good way. Verses usually aren't catchy at the first listen, so can't really judge them as good as choruses, but Jane does them both impressively well. The beat is fast paced and it must have a name because I've heard it before. Weird sound is increasing its sound. A bass randomly appeared, it's kind of progressing, but also fading away, the weird sound went away and only bass left and now that one is gone too, fully Jane-style ending, especially of an album. Instantly 5 stars I don't give a damn. This exceeded my expectations in the best way possible. This was one of the best albums I've ever listened to, especially between the sad ones. It contains many sounds that are thrilling and makes me feel like I'm floating (ik I said that already), plus the production and her voice combined is the best thing she could ever done. I wholeheartedly want another album of her here, or I'll definitely try. Songs were long, but album should have been too. No regrets, and I dunno why some people don't like it, haven't deepdived that. Whatever this genre is I love everything about it and I think I've found another favourite artist of mine.

Really enjoyed it. Some krautrock elements, it was groovy! It gets a 5 because my recent my recent ones have been so bad

What a cool retro 80's sound. I loved this. Every track was a great listen, with great production quality and really cool sounding synths and beats. The singing was moody and atmospheric and the vibe was totally rad. One track sounded almost exactly like The Weeknd's Blinding Lights -- so much so that I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Weaver sued Mr. Weeknd for infringement. Five stars.

I really liked this. Hadn't heard of this artist prior to listening. The vocals were gorgeous, the music was well written, well produced , resulting in a sound I got into from the off. Brilliant

What a great surprise this album is. It feels like something from the 80s somehow. H>A>K made me check the date, though. An interesting listen for a way too hot day so I was happy to stay in one spot in front of the fan and take it in :)

Not heard this before. Retro electronic masterpiece. A little dated sound synths but quite good.

unexpectedly really pleasant, what a nice surprise

Incredible.

Really enjoyed this.

Excuse me waiter I'd like ten more

Disco necesario, muy en mi línea de la música que suelo escuchar. Momentos de homenaje a Vangelis. LOVE.

Very cool electronic music with an alternative/proggy feel, music that makes you feel like you're travelling through dimensions, it's a fun listening experience that you can contemplate the complexities of life and the universe, can be pretty repetitive to many listeners, but this felt hypnotic to me, excellent album

Started off strong and felt really inspired/creative. I loved the "spectral" and 80s synth sound but also, with a contemporary vision. I genuinely feel like I can tackle any creative task when listening to this music. This is the first 5/5 on this list!

前奏...的重複令人煩躁

Loved it! Haunting vocals, good beats, and that synth sound! Yes!

First song (H>A>K) is A+. The drums similar to Hallogallo - Neu! Reminds me of Cate Le Bon, U.S. Girls, Weyes Blood. Great album to cruise around to.

Wonderful!

Rock peppered indie album from 2017? My God this blew me away!

Where the heck has this been all my life?! I read something online recently that led me to believe I'd probably enjoy this album, and I was right. This reminds me a lot of Django Django but with a frontwoman instead instead. I can't wait to explore the rest of her discography.

Piolón. Medio juanamolinero. Algunos temas son como si el santi motorizado, pasado de malbec, se le lanzara a la tía juana y luego de una noche de amor y depresión sale esto.

sonzao bem astral, eletronico e suave, bom pra se curtir

Love it.

Of albums I’ve had zero exposure to before this list, this is one of the most original and interesting.

Very good album!! Electro new age. Very hypnotic and epic. Loved it!

A completely unknown artist to me - and only a few minutes in I knew I'd have to give this one at least two listens due to everything that was going on sonically. But all it took was about halfway through the first before I realized I loved it - love the spacey/mysterious/hypnotic/DoctorWho-in-space/melodic feels I'm getting from this. Yet it still has such an organic bent to it - live/acoustic drums, guitars - all blended so well with the kind of melodic sequencers and synthesizers I love. It's modern yet with heavy doses of 70s Gong+Hawkwind and 80s art rock. 4 complete listens today. I love everything about this entire album, and we're in and out in a cool 44 minutes. 9/10 5 stars.

Some great classic thrash on here. Could feel a bit samey at times, but went hard throughout.

8/6 echoes chambered

reallyyyy liked this

amai leuke ontdekking

An artist I've admired for a long time. The Architect is just such an incredible song and the whole album is so dreamy and luscious.

Weird in a good way. No relation to Jackie Weaver.

Enjoyable.

she looks like a british kylie. idk. we'll see. i really liked this! like how i wish that Joan Baez album had sounded.

I think this is the first album so far not to have it's own Wikipedia page, so was going in blind. Never heard of Jane Weaver but have to say after listening to this, I'm intregued to hear the rest of her discography. I listened to this twice in one day and it still sounded fresh. I cannot think of one thing wrong about this album. The music is dreamy yet not sleepy, the jamming sections are full of mystic rhythms that keeps you on your toes, and Weaver's vocals are so pleasant to hear. Favourite songs are H>V>K, Modern Kosmology, The Architect, and I Wish. No bad songs on here and it flows perfectly.

Amé este disco y no la conocía a ella para nada, ya escuché más y creo que me haré fan. En fin, como que condensa muchas de las cosas que me gustan en la música. "The Architect", rolón. 10/10

I enjoyed it.

I've never heard of her before but this is a really incredible piece of psychedelic pop! Very interesting inclusion here but I'm happy to have discovered it.

Muy buen disco. No conocía está artista, me gusta mucho. Las guitarras me hacen acordar a Sonic youth y su voz genera un trance

I had never heard of Jane Weaver. But I found this album very good. Very interesting fusion between folk, electronica, some rock... Nice surprise. It's a 4 star album for me. Some tracks I particularly enjoyed: "Did You See Butterflies?", "Modern Kosmology", "Slow Motion", "Loops in the Secret Society" (probably my favourite), "The Architect", or "Valley".

This was a fun listen, it was a nice downtempo kind of electronicy-poppy music that was good to get my day started, really solid 4 stars that I recommended to my kid too.

This is weird, but it's weird in a way that works for me. In some ways, it's like a proggier, more ambient version of Imogen Heap. Ravenspoint was the weirdest track on here for me and it didn't totally fit the album. That track sounded like what I'd expect to hear on the soundtrack of a modern, neo-psychedelic biopic of Jim Morrison. 4 stars

Good vibes. Motorik beats with a Broadcast influence. I dig it. Let the records show that I once did sound for Jane Weaver in Manchester.

Always good to come to an artist and album that I have no knowledge of at all, particularly if it turns out to be good. I really quite liked this. It’s not going to rock my world and become an immediate favourite, I drifted a bit on some tracks, but this was pleasantly interesting enough for me to come back to it.

Did not know what to expect at all from this album, but it can really be described in one word: 'cool'. An unexpected high rating for this one. 4/5

Overall: 8/10 This was a chill rock/pop album with very dreamy and beautiful vocals. I had an amazing time with this one, the layered sounds add such an interesting texture to these songs, and it's obvious that whoever produced this had a great time making it. Fav Song: The Lightning Back

Je trouve ça très lyrique, assez charmant même si un peu répétitif. DYSB et Modern Kosmology sont très biens 8/10

Great album, probably did 4 laps of it through out the day and following morning. Strongly was considering 5 stars. May end up coming back and changing it.

Unexpected but rather enjoyable

un poco anacrónico puede ser? me re gustó 4/5.

Expected more britpop, got brit weirdness instead.

Really enjoyed this. Ethereal.

I let this be untreated for weeks now because I seem to like it (I’ve listened to it quite a few times now) but it never stays with me. I never really remember it the next day. In that sense, it feels like cotton candy, but that’s not at all fair to the complexity and originality of what this artist is doing. I guess I’ll lean into the fact that I keep coming back to it.

++: H>A>K, Did You See Butterflies?, Modern Kosmology, Loops In The Secret Society, The Lightning Back, Ravenspoint, I Wish +: The Architect +-: Slow Motion, Valley 8,5/10

Bit of a leftfield inclusion, but a good one. Plenty of motorik influences and it is all quite Stereolabby. My favourite tracks were The Architect and the opening H>A>K but I also liked the transitions between songs: this is definitely an album that works best as an album

Ooh I loved that. Very pretty and like floating in space

I had never heard of Jane Weaver and what a pleasant surprise. I really did enjoy this almost ethereal journey. Will definitely listen again and thanks to this process for the discovery.

A cool indie rock album with some droning space sounds mixed in. I love the echoing and prominent vocals and the continuity between songs.

A mind blowing experience loaded with plenty of analog synths.Almost space rock. Well worth a listen.

I liked it. I had never heard of her before.

better than expected

316/1001 Jane Weaver - Modern Kosmology Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ It's not my favourite of Weaver's (Flock), but a welcome addition to the list. She brings her own take on psych, which in this case completely washes over you. Great stuff.

Much better than 80% of the albums here, I liked it very much.

didn't know at all, very gorgeous!

The Mancunian Cate Le Bon! Or is Cate the Carmarthenshire Jane Weaver? I like a lot of music that sounds a bit like this, but have never really gravitated towards Jane. Sorry! It's perfectly fine and I'm sure I'd like it more if I listened multiple times. Hang on, isn't she the Mancunian Laetitia Sadier? Or is Laetitia...etc, etc.

This was out there and interesting.

I'm another reviewer coming to this cold, having failed to notice this artist either during her solo career or in any previous iteration. I really enjoyed this album: trancey electronica, but grounded in indie. I'm now following her and I look forward to hearing more. (Anyone else enjoying this might also like a new(ish) band called Dutch Mustard - kind of a grungier version of this.)

Best een leuk album. Soort electro Fiona apple

My initial reaction was “who?” Some unknown English singer songwriter is the best we could do for a 2010s album? Man, this project annoys me sometimes. But to be honest, this was pretty good! Nothing groundbreaking about it, but I found myself reasonably entertained. I’d listen to this again. 4/5

Enjoyed this one. Great opening track and interesting mix of music the rest of the album. Definately a listen again album.

So good. Thanks Jane.

A nice surprise, I quite liked it. Heavy pop. Instinct says three stars but I’m going to be generous and give four because I’ve given four to MUCH worse on here

I'll be honest, when I first saw "pop" I was like ugh I guess... but this is great. This probably would have been one of my albums of the year when I was in my EMA/Courtney Barnett era, which I never really left. "The Architect" in particular is pretty great. I don't really know why this is such a classic that it's on the list, but I'm really glad I heard it.

I enjoyed this a lot and will revisit in the future

I quite enjoyed this dreamy, synth pop soundscape of an album. I had never heard of this artist before, but I may check out more. 4/5

I'm all aboard on this album. Some parts remind me of Stereolab and some remind me of Cate Le Bon. I listened to it 3X and will be back. Slow Motion & The Lightning Back were my favorites, but I liked almost everything.

3.5. I liked all of this (except the penultimate song) quite a bit. I dig the combination of the ethereal vocals and the propulsive beat on most songs. Will listen to again.

4/5 - I'm certain this is more worth my time than half the 70s rock and older britpop this list has. Had never heard of Jane Weaver, but this is more than alright by me. I don't even know any of the "similar artists" on Apple Music. I like the folk-tronic sound or whatever this is; it's generally pretty chill, but the vocal hooks make this more than background music.

Never heard of her before, so glad to know of her. Sounds a bit like someone who wishes she had been in Stereolab (one of my all-time fave groups; I hope they make this list). (I note that the singer from Krautrock band Can -- an influence on Stereolab -- makes an appearance on track 9). As usually happens, I knew pretty soon after I started listening which 2 numbers my rating would likely fall between (which, again, makes me think they should allow a broader rating scale -- from 1 to 10, or maybe 0 to 10, instead of just 1 to 5). This one is between 3 and 4, and I guess I lean slightly more toward 4, even though it feels perhaps a little generous. But I do tend to like stuff like this (psychedelic pop? dream pop?), so I think I'll give it a 4. ;)

This was a pleasant surprise. This style of music is right up my street, and I'll definitely be returning for multiple listens. It takes you on a journey, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. H>A>K Modern Kosmology Slow Motion Valley

this was gorgeous!

I was a big fan of this

Another timely reminder provided by this list to listen to someone I have heard periodically, liked what I heard but failed to investigate further. But I did today and found a treasure trove of album waiting to be discovered. I actually found more to like in her other albums than in this one. Early days in gaining an overview of all her music but each album seems to be different from each other. This one is more electronic and synth based so does not appeal to me as much as some of her other newly discovered work. But full marks to the list for providing me with a new artist to get into. 4/5 23/4/26

Usually when I see an unknown artist on here it checks certain boxes: British, prime Gen X musical era, minimal plays...and I jump to certain conclusions. This album is great! British, minimal plays, but currently touring and the album is from within the last decade! Amazing. Some of these songs really resonate and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. I'm disappointed she's not big enough to be touring the North America Folk Fest scene!

Better than Coldplay

Psychedelic pop, electronic pop.

This was a great surprise. Well crafted, lush songs that all blend into a dreamy yet groovy album. Her voice suits the music well, adding texture without being too overt. I love this kind of stuff, we'll go 4.5/5 on this.

I really enjoyed this one. A discovery for which I am grateful to the curators of the list. Krautrock inspired Folktronica with a heavy spiritual vibe, atmospheric, cinematic, very unexpected. It's rare when listening to one of these albums moves me, where the music gets my attention and keeps it, and then takes me to a... place I haven't been to before in my mind (or, haven't been in a while). But, a mood lifter. SO much here is inward-looking lamenting, or outward-looking complaints. This looks both inward and outward but in a much different way. Like I said earlier, it's spiritual, some of the time verging on silly. But again, a rare case of transcendence.

Excelente!!

idiosyncratic - some folk vibes, some regular indie, some electronic. lovely voice, strong melodies a refreshing listen, and a good length - I listened to it a second time and enjoyed that just as much

At first I was like, who is THAT Then I was like Who IS this Good vibes modern neo psych kinda thing, moving from 80s synthpop songs to modern indie beat driven. I really enjoyed this new discovery for me.

Spacey, New Age-ish album. Never heard of the artist nor the project, but I enjoyed the vibes on first listen. "Have You Seen the Butterflies" was my favorite track.

Went into this blind and I'm so glad I did, what a fun album right from the very first few seconds. I'm very particular about the tone of voice of a performer (as in, even if I LOVE the instrumentals and lyrics, a singer I don't vibe with will sink my score – see my ratings for any Police album [sorry not sorry Sting]) and she's so pleasant to listen to.

Didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never heard of her before but I really liked it. It was an odd, but pleasing, mix of a lot of different genres. Certainly never boring. A good find!

Had it on heavy rotation today. Surprisingly good. favourite: " H>A>K", "Did You See Butterflies?", "Slow Motion", "The Architect" 3,5

41 seconds into this album, I knew I was going to love it. Jane Weaver is one of the better discoveries from this project. I’d never even heard of her before, but her music is right up my alley. “Modern Kosmology” is made up of a lot of the building blocks I gravitate towards in music. I hear loads of similarities to other artists I really like. I hear the folky vibes of Ane Brun, the soft spoken intimacy of Mitski, the guitar tones and textures of Cate le Bon, the breathy vocals buried in layers of electronica of Goldfrapp, and the sonic experimentation of Julia Holter. I say similarities, but the music here is definitely unique in itself. It feels more like it shares the same intellectual space as those other artists. There’s some really great production work here, especially around the digital vocal manipulation going on throughout the album. Whether it’s infinitely looping a clip of the end of a vocal line, adding layers of reverb or delay, or blending the vocals into the electronic textures of the synths, it all creates a really interesting listening experience. It’s never overdone either, just when the song needs it. There’s a real blend of guitar-based music with synth and electronica. Jane seems to take the best elements of a number of different genres to create something distinct and great. So yeah, from the moment the vocals started looping and the electronic beats kicked in, less than a minute into opening track H>A>K, I was sold.

I really enjoyed this one, very reminiscent of Charlotte Gainsbourg's album written/produced by Beck. Definitely want to throw this back on again

Fascinating journey

This was great!

ga heel goed op dit soort muziek

Real indipendent english songwriter.

Pleasant!

I really liked this one. Not sure what makes it so special though, it's not much different from a ton of other 10's indie pop albums

I had never heard of this artist before, but I really enjoyed listening to this album.

Labai sužavėjo albumas. Kažkoks otherworldly garsas. Unikalu, kokybiška, kitaip.

Favorite Track: H>A>K

This is a really nice vibe. I like the synths.

I had never heard her work, and I really dig it. Good walking and thinking sounds.

The low-listen albums are a gamble, and this one paid-off well. I liked the light electronic sounds in the album. It was a nice contrast to the dark synth sounds from yesterday's album. This record was a good discovery for me!

Enjoyed this one. It's kind of subtle in a lot of ways, but there's quite a few moments where the soothing melodies suddenly caught my attention.

Really liked this. A new find for me, will definitely listen to her later albums.

It's cool

I like the energy on the opening track. Digging the music and melody on here. While I don't like the guitars on track 5, the album is good enough for me to want to hear more from this artist. I'll give this a 4.

Reviewing this a day after listening so it's not super fresh. I really like the sound she is going for. I feel like this album has the bones to be something really really good, it's just missing a little je ne sais quoi. I still enjoyed it mostly and I want to put it at that 3.5 mark, but I feel like I was expecting something to really click as the album went on and it didn't quite happen. I'll round up for potential.

Really enjoyed this, quite eclectic but a nice vibe. Will listen to more of her material

Had never heard of her, and this was pretty good! "Modern Kosmology" "Slow Motion" "The Architect" and "The Lightning Back" were all enjoyable

This was fun. I like hearing recent albums/artists that I've never even heard of. Reminded me of Stereolab. 3.7/5

Really sounds like Stereolab so much that I really thought she was going to have some connection but nope. If you like Stereolab you’ll probably like this. 7/10

What can I say? I liked the trancelike outsider atmosphere. Not sure it belongs on the list of 1001 albums to listen to you before you died. I'm glad I did though.

Verrast. Ik ben het met de andere reviews wel eens, er zijn albums uit deze tijd, zelfs uit 2017 zelf, die ik eerder op deze lijst zou zetten. Neemt niet weg dat dit fijne indierock is. 8/10

I actually liked this it’s up my alley.

Liked a lot of this album which grew on me with each listen. The softer side of electronic music combined with some softer, folksier vocals was a nice match. Very listenable album and really enjoyable.

Wow, what a great discovery. Never heard of her before and I am pretty sure I never would have if it wasn’t for this project. I love the DIY style and the laid back vibes with a generous serving of electronica. Her voice compliments it all and makes for a great album. Not sure if there is a stand out track (Valley maybe) but will be giving this a fuller listen,

Well I certainly wasn’t expecting some Dream Electonica Krautrock. But hey, who is?! Nice surprise all the same. Took a couple of listens to get the hang of this, it’s quite the pleasant subtle genre bender. Starts on a pure Krautrock banger, chills with some dreamy electonica and then heads of amongst some slightly more psych and dronier ones. Has a lovely consistent feel to the album. I will be back, and have a look at the size of her back catalogue, this could be fun….

This is a solid music technology major album. Very well written, sequenced, the effects are phenomenal. Not every song on here is a banger or something I would like return to in isolation but I would definitely listen to this whole thing together often. Great album.

Most of it was pretty good. Ravenspoint was shit, and the last song had annoying noise at the end for no reason

Throbbing soft pop

Reminicent of old Pink Floyd with modern effects. I love this. I will listen to more of this artist. Frankly this is just what I needed today. 4.5/5

Surprisingly really enjoyed it, especially the instrumentation.

Kind of liked this

I love this indie electronica stuff. Reminds me of college.

Bra album! Typ sånt jag skulle lyssna på ”till vardags” så fett vibe.

Très bonne surprise, j'aime beaucoup 👍

I've never heard of this artist, but this was a delight. And an inspiration to us 40-somethings the world 'round.

I very much enjoyed this album and it was right up my alley in terms of music that I typically listen to. I’d never heard of Weaver before so this was a fun listening experience. I thought this was a great psychedelic rock album with electronic, indie pop, and folk influences as well. I enjoyed listening to this album and would check it out again soon.

The blend of her long clear vocals with the drums and the electronic elements worked really well together.

stereolab worship! probably shouldnt be on here because there is only ONE stereolab album... just have another instead of this

Pretty nice

Crystally and enjoyed a lot

Very interesting album, definitely need to listen again. Might move to a 5 with another play through.

This got added straight to my library. How did I miss this? It’s right up my street.

It was very unconventional. I appreciated its creativity. Good listen.

Len Houmous spent most of 2006 trying to seduce Jane Weaver. Weaver by name, weaver by nature. She somehow managed to dodge all his relentless and let’s face it very compelling advances. This is Len Houmous we are talking about. 4.0 5/10 Loops In The Secret Society

Rad. Really cool album, great psych and krautrock influences, good singing and melodies. I don’t think I’d put it on my list, personally, but it is a great listen and a good example of modern psych.

Finally got an album not from some official lists. And I don’t know, I was attracted by its music or minority.

a sprawling symphonic dreampop delight! reminds me of broadcast and cold beat a bit. but it’s really its own thing, really lovely and definitely something i’ll be returning to sooner rather than later.

High 3/low 4, st. Vincent esque

it was pretty cool

Jane Weaver ‑ *Modern Kosmology* (2017) In-depth review --- ### 1. Core Themes & Lyrics Weaver’s words feel like transmissions from a séance rather than conventional pop lyrics. Across the record she loops together: - **Techno-mysticism** – circuitry and cosmos are synonyms; love, memory and data are all “signals” that can be stored, warped or lost. - **Female agency reframed** – instead of earth-mother clichés she poses as engineer of her own planet: *“I built the architect / I drew the spectral lines”*. - **Dislocation & doubling** – mirrors, twins, drones and butterflies recur; identity is fluid, sometimes literally unrecognisable (*“I saw your face / I am unrecognisable”*) . The imagery is opaque enough to let the listener project, but every track is tethered to the same post-human fairy-tale world. If you enjoy solving puzzles you’ll relish it; if you want literal storytelling it can feel evasive. --- ### 2. Music & Arrangements Weaver calls the sound *“unearthly pop”* and that nails it: motorik skeletons dressed in prog, folk and early-90s shoegaze fabrics. **Key moves:** | Element | How it’s used | Exemplar track | |---|---|---| | **Motorik beat** | Hypnotic 4/4 pulse, subtly swung | “Slow Motion” | | **Pastoral vocal** | High, fluttery, double-tracked | “Did You See Butterflies?” | | **Modular synth loops** | Arpeggios that phase in/out of tune | “The Architect” | | **Gauzy guitar drones** | Recalls *Meddle*-era Floyd or Broadcast | “Ravenspoint” | | **Tape-manipulated sound design** | Backwards cymbals, flipped reels | Entire LP | Songs melt into each other; verses and choruses exist but they’re subordinate to **mood gradients**. The result is a 42-minute continuum you play start-to-finish rather than cherry-pick. --- ### 3. Production Techniques Weaver self-produced, jumping between two analogue wonderlands: - **Vox Studios (L.A.)** – old film-scoring desk, tape varispeed, no comfy couch → industrial laboratory vibe. - **EVE Studio (Stockport)** – collector’s playground: Minimoog, ARP Odyssey, Roland GR-300 guitar-synth, Logan String Melody, Publison digital delay (her *“if it breaks I’ll cry”* box) . Tricks include: - Recording vocals at whisper level because the accountant next door kept knocking (*“Sounds great!”*) – the hush became part of the album’s intimacy. - Turning reels upside-down for reversed decay, then flying those fragments back into the mix to *“decorate”* rather than dominate. - Using hardware arpeggiators (Juno-106) as compositional starting points – the sequenced spine of “The Architect” is literally one held chord and an arp . Sonically the LP is **warm, slightly dusty**, but the low end is 21st-century punchy; she side-chains vintage synths to modern drum-machines so nothing feels like retro cosplay. --- ### 4. Influence & Legacy Released in spring 2017, *Modern Kosmology* became a touchstone for the new British psych scene: - **Mojo** ranked it #5 album of the year; *The Guardian* dubbed it *“the golden age of psych gets warp-speed”* . - Broadcast are an obvious antecedent; Weaver repays the debt while pushing the rhythm grid toward Neu!/Can territory. - You can hear her template in subsequent records by **Katie J. Pearson**, **Pictish Trail**, even **Tame Impala**’s *Slow Rush* B-sides. - The hybrid technique (folk songwriting + krautrock mechanics) is now a common production recipe on Bandcamp, but few pull it off without sounding like pastiche; Weaver’s pastoral melodic instinct is the cheat code. --- ### 5. Pros & Cons | Pros | Cons | |---|---| | Seamless flow – plays like one continuous trip, ideal for headphone immersion. | Lyric opacity – lines can feel like cut-up poetry; emotional pay-offs are indirect. | | Fresh sonic palette – analogue gear used melodically, not just texturally. | Mid-tempo bias – almost every track sits 90-110 BPM; no outright banger or ballad change-up. | | Confident female perspective inside a usually male-dominated kosmiche zone. | Requires patience – hooks reveal themselves after 3-4 listens; not instant pop. | | Top-tier dynamics – mastered loud but retains tape headroom; no digital fatigue. | Runtime tease – 42 min leaves you hungry; one more explosive track would seal the deal. | --- ### 6. Verdict *Modern Kosmology* is neither a retro curio nor a chilly experiment – it’s a **self-contained solar system** where pop intuition and modular mysticism orbit each other at perfect distance. If you’re drawn to Broadcast, early Floyd, Cate Le Bon or late-night headphone voyages, this is essential. Just don’t expect sing-along choruses; expect **gravity, shimmer and slow-motion revelation**.

Definitely unique and like it that's a 4

Not bad! Four out of 5

I really enjoyed this album! Not groundbreaking but very pretty :)

Joni Mitchell in a modern format. What great sing and songwriter music. The krautish melodies with Jane's voice works as a perfect match. I enjoyed this lot. Best tracks: H>A>K Loops in the Secret Society The Arcitecht

Went into this one blind as I had never heard of Jane Weaver. This album blew me away, was not expecting this from an album in 2017. It is a very dream avant-garde experimental pop album. You can hear influences from Krautrock bands like CAN (vocalist Malcolm Mooney appears on a track) and 90's indie StereoLab to 70's experimental rockers like Velvet Underground. 8 out of the 10 songs were legit hits for me the other 2 weren't bad just not my style. If you like dreamy electronic pop with repetitive beats and atmospheric soundscapes this album is for you.

I actually really liked this. It’s was like a dream pop/shoe gaze feel

Interesting to have a more recent album from the list. I enjoyed more than I thought. Quirky drone pop with synths galore. I enjoyed the voice and it was a nice evening listen. Probably have to be in the right mood to listen to this.

Great chill album. Songs do get lost in the vibe and I can’t tell one from the other.

Actually very good and unique sound - enjoyed listening.

Interesting album with soft and unpredictable music.

Not at all bad for an album that doesn't even have its own Wikipedia page! I liked Jane Weaver's take on synth and electronic driven psychedelic music; it took what was a fairly common style in the 70s and breathed new life into it. Also, Weaver is a tad bit folky, which servers her well on this album by adding an additional layer to the music. Honestly, I found this to be quite interesting and engaging. It was chill and trance-like without being boring. I'd probably put this at about a 3.5 for me personally, but I think I'm going to round it up just to signal boost what is clearly a lesser known album and artist!

Ooh this is really good. The music mixes krautrock rhythms with airy melodies in a way that reminds me of the band Stereolab. The arrangements are interesting and complex, but the songs still have strong emotional hooks. There are some cool, psychedelic tracks too, which is right up my alley. Honestly, every song here has its own character and style, and all of it is beautifully produced. This is an impressive album worth diving back in for more listens.

This is a really cool listen, and it honestly reminds me a lot of one of my favorite albums of all time- "The Hazards of Love" by "The Decemberists". It's expansive, vast, has cool production elements, great textures and tones, and it's deep. The one negative that I have for it is that it's just a bit too droney throughout. I felt like the first seventy five percent of the album I was listening to songs where each one had a single chord or simple riff being repeated for 60 to 80 times and then it's on to the next one. It wasn't until "Valley" where I started to get something different.. some changes.. a chord progression instead of a singular repeated chord over and over. Even with that being said, I really enjoyed this, I'm happy that it's on the list, and I think the more I listen to it the more I'm going to really love this one.

Well, this was a nice surprise. Never heard of this artist but I thoroughly enjoyed her mix of synth pop and psychedelia.

Very interesting. There's a lot behind this that I feel I'm not grasping.

A mix of St Vincent and Muse

Very interesting, eclectic pop album. It's a little bit in PJ Harvey territory, but something of its own. I very enjoyable listen, although maybe one I won't come back to too often.

3.5 - Would've been higher but got a little weird for the last 2 tracks

Really cool, atmospheric album. Had never heard of this artist and I’m glad I know her now. This is the type of thing I hoped would come out of this undertaking.

Nice psychedelic vibe here. Some parts sound a little like MGMT, but only in a kind of tribute sense. They definitely manage a unique sound--it's not too much throwback to the 60s either, though there are notions of Jefferson Airplane and David Crosby. 4/5

Yeah sick one. Hadn’t heard of this before. Some good krout rock with great psychedelic vocals.

Like it, some songs feels like I was in a techno event, others were more lile pop songs that would play in a movie and others make me feel kinda melancolic and nostalgic, om general the songs are nice and easy to enjoy

i really like the blend of pop and krautrock, its cool. love the textures on here. it's very stereolab coded i think thats why i like it so much

Based on the reviewi thought this was gonna be jut terrible. But it wasn't bad I guess. I like a few songs and at least it's a tad different.

Let's get out of the way, right at the top: this is one of those "indie darling" picks, isn't it? You know what I mean — it's one of those smaller albums that Joe Public listening to Top 40 radio would **absolutely** not know about that got praised up, in and out the butt by just the right Big Important Critics™. Then, when time came to compile a more recent edition of this here book, the album retained **just** enough clout to make it in as a token "indie" pick that maybe reflects a few underrepresented genres, but sure hasn't had any lasting cultural legacy — which is what I'd've **thought** this book was about cataloging... Ah, but what does that matter, ultimately? I'm not here to be the ultimate arbiter of what I think should or shouldn't be here (unless I wanna be, but sssshhhh). Ultimately, I'm only here to relate whether or not I liked the music — and I'd very well say that I do. This is a total vibes album. If you wanna take it casually and just let it soundtrack whatever you're doing, like I did, you ain't gonna have a bad time. There's a lot of nice ethereal-sounding soundscapes. Just a lot of good shit to lean back and float to. Heck, while I had the thing on I both watched a TAS of the Nintendo 64 'Spider-Man' game **and** I wrote this whole review! And I darn had a good time the whole way, let me tell you. I guess if you wanna look closer at the lyrics there might be some stuff in there about . . . I'unno, math or something? I'm going off of what a group member said in their review, where they make just the same point as I do: they don't really matter. Like, go ahead if you wanna look deeper into it; I don't think the Big Important Critics™ were gassing this up over nothing. But as for me... Eh, as I said: vibes. And slightly more interesting synth-y vibes than I normally get from electronica-type albums at that. Synths! I dig 'em! Yeah, there's really not a lot for me to comment on. It was just a real nice album to have on and vibe out to at, like, 5:30 in the morning. And for sure, it was a nice unwind from the album I had played before this one: 'Atomizer' by Big Black. That's actually the album my group got **following** this one, and, man, what a vibe shift, huh? So, yeah — whether it "belongs" on this list or not . . . I can't say I care too much. It didn't wow me, but I'm happy I spent time with it. And in the end, at the most basic level, that's really all you can ask of any album.

Fine album.

I liked this more than I thought I would. Still not the greatest album, but I think it has a unique sound and she has a nice voice. Also Valley is just the Twin Peaks theme song. Mid 4.

I didn't really have any expectations going into this. Was pleasently surprised.

Ohhh, I loved this. I liked the mixture of influences and that sometimes the more pop tendencies won and other times Rock stood out. Will definitely listen again

Podoba mi się, szczególnie tytułowy utwór za bardziej jazzowatą melodię i The Architect

I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. I see that Jane Weaver is listed as a psychedelic folk artist, but to my ears, I would classify this as more of a prog rock album. I really enjoyed this a lot. It is one of my favorite discoveries as a result of this 1001 albums exercise, and I am at well over 400 albums in currently. Considering this album does not have its own Wikipedia page, it seems she is not well known. I would listen to this album again for sure, and probably seek out her other material as well.

Super cool listen!!

I had to search Spotify. I like it. Never heard of Jane Weaver! A nice discovery.

Started as an interesting mix of singer-songwriter and electronic music, but as the album progressed it leaned a lot more to singer-songwriter. Too bad, this album could've earned its place in this list if it leaned harder into this innovative direction. But despite that, pretty good and enjoyable songs. There were maybe 1 or 2 songs I felt an urge to skip, but that was it. Love the cover art.

Not my typical cup of tea, but I enjoyed this one. Pretty chill kinda dream pop. Definitely saved this one to my library

First half of this album is so good, sort of electronic indie not too far from Churches with a bit of LCD on occasion, particularly the first song. Second half except for the last track was more acoustic and a bit neither here nor there, would have liked it well enough if the first half wasn't so much better by comparison. Never heard of Jane Weaver but will listen to more of her stuff, first half is a 5, second half is more of a 3.5, will say 4.5 but closer to a 4.

Over the weekend, I listened to this album, Massive Attack's Protection, and Röyksopp's Melody A.M. All quite trippy, chill-out, chill-in music. I think this one is my favourite. Never heard of her, but this album is pretty amazing. Listened fully through twice. Ravenspoint and Slow Motion were my favourite tracks. I like the ambience of most of the tracks - ethereal but corporeal. Hard to describe without sounding like a goon, but the music is grounded and yet still floaty and relaxing. Maybe her particularly strong vocals are the difference. Perhaps I am a fan of electronica/wave music after all.

This made for really easy listening

Really enjoyed this, hoping to listen to it again.

I already want to come back to this album. Very good drummer.

Only one listen, but I liked the sound of this.

Sonically intriguing and very cool.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Of course an English artist, since there is no other place like the UK or the USA, but at least it's not bad like other "must hear" albums.

This is another one of those albums that totally blew me away. I might’ve had low expectations when I saw the underwhelming cover but wow I was not expecting this at all. It is electronic, psychedelic, and also indie rock all at the same time. I really loved the completely unique sound. This made me look into a bunch of her other albums cause I loved this one so much. My only complaint is I don’t like the second half of the album as much as the first.

I had never heard of her before. I really enjoyed the album. Listen to it three times today.

Liked this a lot from the first track. Right up my street so I’m straight up biased, but the production is super interesting to me. Melancholic lyrics sung with an honestly average voice but it all comes together well to create some dreamy and beautiful soundscapes. If a Clairo, phoebe bridgers or (especially) Mitski releases this album today, it goes number 1- just saying.

New to me and I like it!

Not sure if I’ll go back though

44/1089 some chamber folky electro vibes, i’m enjoying this one, it reminds me a lot of Gwenno Slow Motion is a great track and enough for me to consider this album worth hearing even if the rest of the songs aren’t amazing Having Ravenspoint as the penultimate track then ending on the energetic release of I Wish is GREAT tracklisting, and the fact that it ends with an inverse of the beginning synth so it loops, love that i need a second listen to grasp my thought properly but this is right up my alley. Idk what other examples of this specific style/sound are on this list but this is a stellar representation of it and i’m glad it’s here. 4 stars or 81/100 faves: Slow Motion, I Wish, H>A>K

Really interesting and different. I kind of wonder if this project should have been 1001 albums by completely unknown/obscure artists.

Yeah man digged electronic spirtual nonsense. Lovely

Really glad to have found this album, I really enjoyed it though the penultimate track jarred and somehow seemed out of kilter with the rest

One of the hidden gems of this project. It does feel a bit obscure to be listed in the 1001, but I don't care, call it my Scouse bias.

Upbeat. Really enjoyed it

Pleasant background listen

Really enjoyed this one. Trancey without being overly repetitious and love her vocals.

Really good, will want to listen again.

Marking this as a four mostly because I'm still not sure what I think and want to come back. Feels different than a lot of what has been on the list so far. Songs: The Lightning Back

This is a nice listen. Smooth and easy to listen to. Given how obnoxious the picks on this list can be, surprised to find this here. Not really feeling like it does things that a dozen other albums in the past 20 years have done, though. Makes me wonder why this particular album is the one you have to listen to before kicking the bucket. Gives me Kraftwerk vibes in multiple places. I'm not big on the vocals, alas; they're better than a lot of what we've heard so far, but the airy style isn't sitting well with me today. It works in some of the songs: Did You See Butterflies? is pretty great, it reminds me of C Duncan. I'll listen to some of this again, so a 4.

With the genre given as Neo-Psychedelia / Ambient Pop / Space Rock / Synthpop, I thought that this album was going to be pretentious crap, but it's actually quite good and I liked it.

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver is one of the more recent entries on the list, released in 2017. I’ll admit, I’d never heard of her or her work before. At first, this was a tricky album to get into. I ended up listening to it two or three times today just to form an opinion—which, in hindsight, probably says I liked it enough to keep coming back. The music feels fresh and distinctive, with a style that’s unmistakably her own. Weaver’s vocals are a highlight: at times they feel like an instrument in themselves, weaving through the dark, melodic soundscapes. While no single track jumped out as a runaway favourite, the album is consistently engaging from start to finish. Favourite track: Loops in the Secret Society is a gorgeous ballad that flows seamlessly into the more club-like The Architect. Two great songs—completely different, yet perfectly complementary. Least favourite track: None in particular—it’s a solid listen throughout. Album artwork: Striking, stylish, and instantly eye-catching.

Really interesting album, totally not what I expected.

Who is Jane Weaver and how did she know exactly what I wanted to listen to this morning. Almost a full 4

One of those albums you can put on any time and will always sound right.

surprisingly good like it was so peaceful to hear

kinda bangers. 3.75-4.5

Uma boa surpresa esse álbum. Gostei de algumas músicas e desejo voltar para ele. É um alternative que encaixa com meus gostos, e as letras até que são legaizinhas. Gostei de H>A>K, Modern Kosmology, Slow Motion e The Lightning Back.

Drømmepop med psykedeliske innslag? Likern, digg parkmusikk! Fast innslag, kanskje, men trenger noen gjennomlyttinger til før det sitter.

Dabbet av litt mot slutten, men likte det mest ganske godt. Fin miks av elektronisk, pop og indie

As a Jane Weaver fan I was pleasantly surprised to see this in the list. Only a handful of 2017 releases were added to the list in the revised edition, so the inclusion is open to much debate - and that includes me debating with myself now.

What a tremendous palette cleanser that is from yesterday's abject nonsense. She's from somewhere near here apparently, only somewhere totally dreadful like St Helens or something. But she's not let that set her back. This is a lovely slice of electric tinged classic singer songwriting.

I'm not entirely sure what this album is, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't really deserve to be on the list. That said, I did enjoy it. It was more of a background listen, but a very stimulating one.

A good album, I liked H>A>K, The Lightning Back and Valle the most.

pretty sick, no lie

Fajn dream popicek

Weird, floaty

Very psychedelic, she relies on ostinatos a lot. Almost too much for my taste, like each song is a meditation on a chord. Not that that's not interesting but I don't think I'll seek this out again, cool to listen to once maybe twice. It might grow on me. 7/10
