Reviews (page 4 of 8)

I've never heard of Jane Weaver and frankly, sounds like she'd be a dental hygienist. Though a little slow in places, this album brings us into the 20th century. It's nice to listen to something more contemporary than discovering old classics that I missed. The album starts off strong. Jane sounds like Stereolab or School of Seven Bells with a hint of Daft Punk, Postal Service and even some Cocteau Twins thrown in. But tapers off toward the end with songs like Valley, which is a slow and whiny or Ravenspoint which includes traditional instrumentation and dabbles in Psychedelia. The first listen was good, but the second grew on me. Despite the tail end of the album, there's enough of a foundation to expect good things from this hygienist in the future. I even found myself meandering off the reservation and exploring her new release 'Flock' which I immediately enjoyed.

Electronic pop kosmology

Great vocals and amazing production. Good variation in styles as well

Pretty cool! Good vibes. I enjoyed listening to this. My fave track for now is The Valley.

Another example of the Brit lean of this list. I'm surprised I've not heard of Jane Weaver on this side of the pond, esp. as it appears that she's made quite a splash over there. This album is quite listenable, with a chill vibes and an interesting pop/trance crossover feel. I get hits of Dido and Feist, but with Weaver's own unique voice. The sounds are sometimes retro, but don't feel particularly dated (at this time!). I would give this album future listenings, and will likely seek out some of her other works.

A really pleasant surprise. I had no expectations going in and this album was good. Experimenting with a few different sounds on the record but the album as a whole is great.

Love Jane Weaver. Love this album.

First really new albums we've had ayyy. I really enjoyed it, as with most of the new stuff it's completely weird and unique but for once it really worked imo

Not my usual style but I enjoyed the album. The first song is a bit weird but I liked the other ones a lot. They sound fresh and unusual but in a nice way.

Saved to my favorites

Very melodic almost hypnotic voice. Electronic backing, but very calm listening. I like it!

Really good, like St. Vincent or Goldfrapp

Cool little album this. Maybe a bit pretentious at times but some good songs too

4.4 - Surprised I hadn’t heard this before. It’s in my Broadcast, Stereolab wheelhouse. Beautiful vocals, interesting bleeps and bloops, and use of noise. An album to enjoy from beginning to end.

Reminds me of Stereolab a little

Nawet 4+

I. Loved. This. Shades of Laurie Anderson's Superman. Electronic sounds with a more spoken-word lyrical vibe. I could listen to it for days. Don't know that I'd go to a concert or blast it in my car, but it was excellent music to just vibe to.

Very interesting, strongly reminiscent of Stereolab, and in some parts aspects of the Velvet Underground. A couple of bland tracks but mostly pretty great.

I liked this it was nice

Surprisingly good, wasn’t familiar. Kinda Stereolab-ish.

Lite Lush-känsla över ganska många låtar, inte minst Did You See Butterflies. Slow Motion är 5/5. Coolt folk-sound blandat med drömpop.

Highlights: Modern Kosmology, Slow Motion, 3

Nothing special. Easy listening. No Wikipedia page!

It was good alternative rock music, life for a café.

My first impression was that this is a decent pop record, but is it really a album i need to hear before i die? I kinda liked it more towards the end and wouldn't mind hearing it again some time. Will i choose to play this from my streaming platform. Probably not.

#427 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ✅ I read a bit before playing this for the first time; "Epic kraut-pop opera teeming with motorik rhythms" and "neo-kosmische" and "psychoactive pop energy" certainly got me interested. Except for the pop bit. I get cautious when things I know and love get muddled and shoved into a pop mold, one they're not usually fit for. To my relief, the first 5 minutes of the record keep it strictly motorik and pleasantly etherial. It's got an enjoyable analog synths and studio musician played instrumentation sound to it. Simple with depth. It is however lacking in the intensity department, which is what I value in traditional krautrock, the feeling of your mental jaws tightening and shoulders tensing up in expectation. Easy 3/5, leaning more to 4 than 2.

Great stuff, never heard her before. Really enjoyed it, a breath of fresh air

was intrigued but found it kind of boring. not bad though.

I think this would probably benefit from another listen, but enjoyed this in the background

It’s your classic three-star album. Perfectly competent, perfectly listenable, mildly interesting.

Had a lot of interesting sounds, but unfortunately those sounds were not the kind that appeal to me.

Fun! Not super memorable, but far from the most forgettable album on this list. 3/5

I actually enjoyed listening to this more than I thought I would. I like the mix of folk/electronica, and just the overall vibe of the album

I like it. Krautrock-y singer-songwriter? Weird on paper, pretty good in practice. In a way, not to dissimilar to Stereolab, but a little watered down. I had never heard of Jane Weaver before and looking into her, it seems she wasn't in any famous groups either, so I'm not sure how one of her albums ended up here. Either way, it was a cool discovery, even if not an essential listen. Key tracks: H>A>K Slow Motion The Architect

This album was alright. A little ethereal indie pop quality

As noted by many in their reviews, it is an album that tickles many sensitivities, as it combines some Krautrock and psychedelic elements with more of a space rock, dream pop feel. As such, it is sufficiently artsy to be an interesting listen, but does not feel bigger than life in a way that could warrant inclusion into a list such as this one. 8/10 [DROP]

I don't believe I know anything about this artist, and am going into this completely blind. This isn't bad, and I don't dislike it. I just wonder what makes this particular album stand out as something one must hear before one dies.

Finally some straight up Pop! New artist to me, but the cover looks promising. It reminds me of Hebrew Kabbalah symbolism. Not unpleasant, and the cryptic lyrics are vocalized well enough, even though I am not a fan of the ASMR vocal style that seems to have become popular, but each track feels a little too much like the last one. This might make for a thematic album, but it also makes each song fairly forgettable. On a positive note, more interesting than genre mates The Beta Band, which I had a few days ago. On the one hand I am pleased that Dimery gave us a break from the hipster, condescending bands, but on the other, I am not convinced that MODERN KOSMOLOGY truly belongs on this list. Doesn't really break new ground, and I cannot imagine that the album has inspired a whole new generation of bands. Favorite: "The Architect"

Listen out of order since Spotify licensing shenanigans

It’s ok. I don’t think it’s too bad. They tried. But sometimes I feel like they are sitting on the fence. And I was waiting to see if they will go a bit more poppy catchy way or more indie style. But I don’t think they made a decision.

Really appreciated getting something a lot more modern and out of the box from the list. A pleasant listen on a warm summer morning with a couple tracks that stood out to make this an above-average three.

This was a cool album and a nice change of pace, but I feel like there are better examples of indie synth pop from this era. Some song I really got lost in, but others were kinda grading. I think its when she sings in her falsetto that ruins it for me.

If she hadn't such a girly, insignificant voice, I would like her better. The music is more interesting than the singing.

I thought this was pretty good, reminded me a little bit of Laurie Anderson. 3.5

Trevligt

This is not bad. Inessential, but enjoyable.

Melodies are a little thin and the spoken word stuff was a little weird, but this is a perfectly pleasant album.

While not my thing I can appreciate this.

Never heard of her enjoyed the energy of her band

Fun but not brilliant

This record is hard to pin down, and I think that’s why it made the list. It’s quirky use of genres is creative annd indicative of music of the late 2010’s to now. Despite that, the performances are pretty weak.

One of those bonus 1001+ albums not in the original book. That's fine and it's a decent record by an artist I was not at all familiar with. Another 2 or 3 listens and I might warm up more to this one. I'll give it a 3 for now.

Atmospheric and haunting with some tracks that seem heavily 70s influenced, while others feel very much of the 2010s indie / electronic movement. Goes a little off course for me when the speaking male voice comes in. Highlights: "Slow Motion" and "I Wish"

3 out of 5. It's melodic and very Kate Bush inspired.

Decent 3,5

Nice at kunne gå til et album fuldstændig uden forventninger. Det var helt fint, nok ikke noget jeg kommer til at finde frem igen

Dybt obskurt valg men jeg kunne ret godt lide den!

Never heard about her before, but the music was good. Some dreampop elements.

Here website says ‘Modern Kosmology’ is a model student of second-hand Krautrock, female punk, hard-subbed new-wave, synthesizer skip-finds and unpronounceable worldly feminine pop. Pleasant listening, very light and airy pop synthesiser vibes

Krautrock feel, got that droney with lilting vocals. The first track reminds me of Holy Fuck's LP record a bit. The second track reminds me of Stereolab or Blonde Redhead, and most of the rest of the tracks are similar. Multitracked vocals and weird synths create a cool mysterious vibe. Loops in the Secret Society, H>A>K, and The Architect are the ones I liked here.

Hauskan kuuloista kone ja naissolisti meininkiä

God I really vacillated between 2 and 3. Like, I was intrigued yet baffled all at the same time.

was surprised this was a 2017 album & that's a good thing? i don't think it quite grabs you fully ever, but it's consistent

unexpectedly okay

This is good “listen while working” music.

It's fine. I don't particularly feel engaged by it but I'm probably not the target demo for this.

***A good, easy listening album

I don't know who or what this is, but let us hope it is not twee hipster shit. It's not, which is good. And there are plenty of songs I'll happily listen to again. But on first listen, it's not strong enough to get to a four score. Given the fact that neither you nor I have heard of this artist or album, it begs the question 'why is it in this list'. Which also begs the question 'why not Gemma Hayes or Thea Gilmore'?

Loving this, like, poetry on Ravensport. Why is this presumably Black man not credited on this white lady’s folk music. Let’s see. Malcolm Moony, vocalist of German band Can. Breezy vibes.

Folk tinged vocals layered over dreamy pop. Interesting. A nice, low key listen but not something I will be revisiting. 1 H>A>K - (3/5) 2 Did You See Butterflies? - (3/5) 3 Modern Kosmology - (3/5) 4 Slow Motion - (3/5) 5 Loops In The Secret Society - (3/5) 6 The Architect - (3/5) 7 The Lightning Back - (3/5) 8 Valley - (3/5) 9 Ravenspoint - (2/5) 10 I Wish - (3/5) Total - 30 Average - 3 324/1001 177/324 albums reviewed were new to me.

I'm starting to figure out that I like "folktronica", even if I haven't listened to a whole lot of it. And Jane Weaver scratches the itch, although my preferred take on the genre really emphasizes the folk stuff a little more. She is still playing with the collision of more organic sounding music and electronic textures, and she does get some real mileage here. H>A>K through Slow Motion really capture what is great about this album. But I think there are a couple of songs that end up in a slightly more generic "indie" place that don't blow me away the same way, in particular Loops In The Secret Society, The Architect and The Lightning Back. But Jane Weaver does manage to stick the landing. Valley is neat, but Ravenspoint is probably the best song on the album, incorporating some disorienting acoustic stuff into a sound that ends up really trippy and unique. And I Wish is another highlight, closing us out. Modern Kosmology doesn't get all the way to what I'm looking for in a folktronica album, but it does end up in the ballpark, and gives me a good time regardless.

Bleeps and bloops, but uplifted by 50 years of music to build off of.

It's a record that would mildly turn my head if Pitchfork had recommended it. But generally this gentleman's taste post ~2005 is fairly baffling.

British bias, but this was good. This definitely falls within the category of contemporary indie/experimental pop that I like. Strong 3 to light 4

Kinda liked it

Interesting sound, not overly blown away by it either

felt nothing

Eh. It's a very standard slurry on modern synth-y pop-y tones that all meld together into being the same song on repeat over and over. I don't think this album is very noteable or all that interesting to deserve a place on here. The singing kinda gives me an Alice Nutter era Chumbawumba at times, which is a complement. I am intensely struggling to think of things to say about this album it is so nothing. light 3/5, because none of it is bad it's just... none of it really struck me as good.

Never heard of this one before today and not knowing what to expect played it on my headphones. Love the hypno - psychedelic music where the vocals acts a bridge to pull each song together. I am going to keep this in my playlist for relaxing bike rides and chill out times.

I guess this is ok? It's not terrible, like a modern Kate Bush? She's like the solo lady Velvet Underground? Loops in the Secret Society is a good song. I'm having a hard time telling exactly how I feel about this album. I think I kind of like it.

I'd never heard of this artist before. It's not bad. I like the more psychedelic, experimental tracks quite a bit. I was less into the twee-ish indie pop songs.

It was an OK album - nice listen but didn’t stick with me or make a huge impression on me.

3.5 Pleasant enough but no idea why this is on the list. Is she mates with the author maybe? Upped a star on second listen to be fair

Niet slecht, niet wow

I would even go three and a half. Great production and quite a few grooves that had me enveloped in a warm aural cocoon.

I didn't listen to the full album but the first few tracks were very trippy, folky, and awesome

Zone out a fair bit. Weird

It was alright. Would not listen to again, except for Ravenspoint

Dunno why on list but its ok i suppose

A new one on me. Good album.

Very slow paced. Was alright but I prefer other artists in this genre

3.4 Pretty ok-ish electro/dream pop/rock. Reminded me a lot of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith in parts, shades of late stage Radiohead in others. It's fine, not my favourite genre and I don't think this is the best of it. Not much inclusion of recent albums in this list so I'm surprised this has been selected from the masses, but maybe I'm missing something.

That's gonna be a meh from me, dawg. ⭐⭐.75

the first song bangs. id rather be listening to sweet trip tbh. 3.5

Electronica folk with a psychedelic vibe. "The Architect" is almost like a diet Phantogram. Standout is the ethereal closer "I Wish".

It has a cool vibe, but none of the songs really stand out.

I listened to the album a bunch of times and read the book entry. The argument for its inclusion seems to be how good it is, rather than any broader impact. I agree it is good but that is dangerous terrain to tread. I'd put the first two Po' Girl albums near the top of my personal 1001 albums list and some of those songs have less than 200 listens on Youtube Music. Go listen to Home to You and Vagabond Lullabies, they are amazing.

Artista que no había escuchado. Música atemporal, no comete los excesos de 2017. Agradable

french

lekker!

Det er kult mest fordi det låter gammelt, men ikke så mye mer enn det.

Really enjoyed this synthy indie pop album. Great production, very immersive. However, it was nothing surprising or particularly interesting.

i can dig it

Not the right vibe for lawn-mowing but I didn’t mind this

Look I did kinda like this album but I’m just so so so so confused about why this 2017 album from this “nobody” is included that doesn’t REALLY push much grounds and feels like a reviewer knows this artist and wanted them to be on there.

Très écoutable mais rien de vraiment spécial. Un confortable 3 étoiles.

The sorta neo-Krautrock songs on here are pretty good, and the more generic psych/indie pop songs just kinda fill space.

First album deserving of an extra half star I feel. It’s my first time hearing this album and while there are a lot of tracks to like, the meandering psychedelic ones really bog the album down as a whole. 3/5 feels right given that.

it was cool, almost gave it a 4 before I remembered again that Carly Rae Jepsen isn't on this list and I'm mad again that this girl with 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify is here and not the queen of pop but it's whatever..

was not familiar at all with jane weaver prior to this. some of the early tracks give me early Beach House vibes, so that's nice. still, it didn't really move me enough to rate it higher than this; i'm not sure i'd seek this one out again. not bad, not even necessarily boring, just not doing anything that i don't prefer more from other bands. sorry jane.

This was was so so so close to greatness. It felt like it was afraid to really let itself dive into the weirdness, or maybe I’m just thinking about it too much.

Twin Peaks: The Return “the Roadhouse is proud to present”-core. This album frustrated me because it would have these flashes where I was like "okay, I get it, I love this" but they were never sustained over a particularly long period. I think I'll need to revisit at a later date.

bit of a crossover album

I quite liked this. Reminiscent of Björk and Mazzy Star in places. No particular songs really grabbed me though, so ends as a 3. Would listen again.

It was certainly pleasant, just not memorable.

Sometimes newer albums on here are a bit questionable. Hard to know what will hold up after 10+ years. Who knows if this one will, but I liked listening to it in the moment.

Pretty mediocre electronic pop/alt record. Not sure what to think about it, but I didn't necessarily hate it.

I really like this. Reminds me of Neu!

u načelu solidno, pristojno. lijep glas koji mi se sviđa. ali sve u svemu ništa posebno dojmljivo, nažalost

I liked this more than I expected to given how I've never heard of this artist before. Some of it was a little boring but it was pleasant background music

This is usually my kind of music. But somehow it didn't really work for me. The music is too flat in a way, the spectrum is too narrow. Sometimes I was reminded of Stereolab (which is usually a good thing), but her voice didn't really fit there, either.

Pretty interesting. Nothing groundbreaking though, it wasn't something never done before. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. I'd say the best description would be that it's synth driven indie music.

Ok but nothing special.

Had never heard of Jane Weaver. Generally good, although sometimes the high pitch of her voice while singing is a little too much.

Didn't hate it...didn't love it either.

7.2/10

Saved Hak, did you see butterflies?, I wish

I had never heard of Jane Weaver prior to this. Very solid album, made me interested in the rest of her discography. I especially liked the songs “Slow Motion” and “The Architect.”

Ok. It was music

I both like it and think it’s missing some dynamics. Was hard to stick to it, but was nice background music actually. A smidge too experimental in a boring way, I suppose, but a valiant effort I appreciate. Won’t be back, I saved Valley to my liked songs, memorable tune. Very Skillful vocals. A-tier production and engineering. 3.0

Didn't listen again soz

This album was pretty descent, I wasn’t paying to close attention though because I was just kinda disinterested with it. The biggest reason for this is I’m tired but also a big reason I need to bitch about is the album cover pmo. It is so boring it gives negative reaction, I’d rather it be a picture of someone than this. It was so negatively viewed by me that I waited all day putting this album off having no clue what genre it even was just to find out it’s a chill pop album. Art alone drops it down to a C for me!

Quite enjoyed this

I liked this album. I do agree that it may not warrant being on this list, I mean it doesn’t even have its own Wikipedia page, that’s pretty weird. But it’s a pretty unique album, and I enjoyed it overall.

Enjoyed

Pretty good. Nothing stood out.

This was fine, struggled to pay attention to it. Surprised to learn that there were albums after 2005 on this list. And that this random album I've never heard of in my life was one of them.

A lot of this kind of runs together for me, but it's some nice relaxing background music.

There is a cool vibe here for sure. Its got a ghostly, psychedelic energy in a big block of sound. A consistent aesthetic, to a fault. A monotonous mood board, rather than a collection of really distinct, interesting songs. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Modern Kosmology - Slow Motion - The Architect

Psychedelic folk rock, reminded me of the Flaming Lips.

I quite enjoyed this. More background music than stuff I'd actually listen to, but very good for that.

I didn’t really think I would like this because I haven’t been really liking any of the more recent albums, but it surprised me. It was interesting and I liked her voice throughout it.

This is strange. I’ve never heard of her, the album doesn’t have a wiki page and it barely gets a passing mention on the artist’s page. How did it make this list? It’s actually a pretty good electro/indie/folk album but nothing groundbreaking so it’s just a weird inclusion.

I had never heard of this artist but I quite liked the album. It’s good background listening and kind of soothing

Super fun funky psychedelic pop album. Never heard of Jane Weaver before, but really enjoyed this. Didn’t think for a second this album would have come out in 2017, I was expecting 70s.

I appreciate the artistry, but this just felt more like background music for me.

Spacey music with whispy vocals. Ok, but I'm not fully into it. 3* Ravenspoint was annoying af

Psychedelic folk? Strange but ill take it. Also weird no wikipedia page for this album

Very dreamy and psychedelic album. It’s got a great atmosphere to it, though it falters at times and loses me. Fine listen.

decent album

Ojjj, nie, to nie moje kosmosy. Nie moja planeta. Doceniam autorski sznyt, ale dla mnie to było męczące, zbyt elektroniczne i pozbawione serca. Nie tego się spodziewałam po opisie 5/10.

6/10 - не слушал

She has a comforting voice making her album a pleasant listen to. N I ce guitar work backed by lush n airy tunes.

Angenehme Stimme, auffällige Instrumentierung. Keine wirklichen Highlights für mich. 3/5

H>A>K 3.3 Did You See Butterflies? 3.2 Modern Kosmology 3.3 Slow Motion 3 Loops In the Secret Society 3.3 The Architect 3.4 The Lightning Back 2.5 Valley 3.5 Ravenspoint 3.4 I Wish 3.2 Score: 3.21

really pleasantly surprised, would listen again and also to her other stuff

Some nice Krautrock influences on the opener Liked the classic progressive electronic synth on did you see butterfly? The vocal melodies are pretty good Loops might be my favorite, it's very krautrock, love the intertwining guitars the vocal melody is very complementary to what could be pretty chaotic, but it's done just pretty The Architect is also quite nice, there are still some interesting use of repetition but it sounds different, like if the 70s music elements were used in another context. I can't put my finger on it exactly, what it reminds me off, but the production is very effective *it reminded me of Odd Look by Kavinsky I think that's what it was The reverby Ravenspoint is quite cool, it's really a breath of fresh air in the second half for me 3 - 3 1/2 ? It is very reparative which I would have on for background, I agree jdwasner from rym, I agree! Fav: H>A>K Loops in the Secret Society The Architect (from the the silver globe, I did also listen to this one) Argent* Don't Take my Soul* If Only we Could be in Love Actually I prefered this one, I might come back to it especially to those * marked song Ok that's it bye 👋

This is actually very nice. I had never heard of her before

Never heard of this album before. It was fine.

This is ok. I kinda liked it but probably not 4 liked.

Started out thinking I might have a 4 on my hands but it ended up being kinda too samey throughout.

I should listen to this one again

3.5 (43 minutes, 10 tracks, debut?, 2017) trance (electronica) Jane Weaver has been around the UK folk scene for a while, not sure if this was her first studio album. Spacey lyrics with a melodic electronic beat. A pleasant album but I agree with another reviewer I'm unsure why this album is included on this list (he gave a 2, I'm far more generous at 3.5 as I like this album) . Clearly the book has a bias toward songwriters. I can say if this album is considered psychedelic (I don't consider it this) it makes the genre (one of my least favorites) very accessible.

When mom says “we have St. Vincent at home,” but it’s Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver. Jokes aside, this is a very solid album and there were a couple songs I absolutely loved (“Slow Motion” and “Valley”). Nice listen for sure. Best Track: Slow Motion

Never heard of this artist before, exciting! The first part of this was quite interesting. Very minimalistic moody electro with few chord changes. The singing supported the songs well and worked very well in my opinion. She lost me completely by 'The Architect' however, which was not a particularly good track. And neither were the following ones. In the end, this is a strong 3 for me. The rhythm part of this album was way too weak for me. The singer felt professional grade, but perhaps not the rest of the instrumental elements. The album clearly lacked some punch somehow.

I enjoyed the general dreamy vibe of this album. It was a pleasant surprise after my first bitterness to this newish album which I never heard of is on this list while many other albums from this era are not. It felt dreamy, poppy and just the right enough of experimentalism. No real stand out tunes but I enjoyed the title track and the change of pace in “The Architect” which felt a lot more energetic and electronic. I was contemplating a 4 star since it felt kind of different and fresh, but the lack of standout hits cements it in a strong 3 for now.

On first listen I was pretty excited by this release, but after a subsequent listen it has quite a few meh cuts throughout. I Wish is a really good closer. Mostly just curious why albums like this with little to no legacy nor distinct personality make this list but I digress. 3/5

It’s was good. Sounds a lot like Stereolab or Broadcast to me.

This album gave me Grey's Anatomy/Twilight vibes for sure. Came out in 2017 but gave me more 2012 vibes. It was good.

Psychedelic and easy to listen to

This was just okay. Nothing great, nothing bad.

I like it. It's like krautrock but shiny; like cosmic but poppy.

chill. kinda catchy. whisper?

very nice

Never heard of this one. It's pretty good, sort of ethereal and new age-ish. Nice vocals and music that is super chilled out. Not sure what she is singing about but it fits with the music nicely. Not a huge variety of music but that isn't bad because the album really flows and seems like a cohesive work. I have not heard of them before today but I'm going to add it to my favorites so I can listen to it on the HiFi at home.

Actually, not bad

I'm not really sure where I landed on this. I liked it at first, then it kinda lost me a bit. I'll need to come back and listen again to see which way I lean.

Reminiscent of early Velvet Underground

3.5 super enjoyable

Some kind of bedroom pop version of krautrock. Pleasant enough

Has some similarities to Stereolab and Friends, but doesn't have any of their authenticity. A good album, but nothing incredible.

Art Pop meeting neo-kraut psychedelia? Well... It was a nice and smooth journey. I will not come back to it, but I enjoyed it for sure!

Perfect backseat roadtrip vibes.

This got interesting once it took a turn toward something that resembled folktronica. From 'The Architect' on, I quite liked it.

I liked this one. It was kinda trancey and meditative.

#12 Good stuff! An impressive one-woman album, reminds me of Imogen Heap. Might seek out her other music.

The Architect was groovy, but most of the album didn't interest me as much.

Oh, a surprise! Modern Kosmology seems to be not well known at all, but it's quality. Jane Weaver has a lovely voice, perfect for this trippy psychedelic folk sound. I suppose the only criticism I would have is that I don't have much to say. The album was chill but not overly memorable. Still, sometimes it's not good to be memorable (looking at you, proto-punk genre). I guess the best you can hope for is decent.

It was OK

Not something I expected to like based on description, but I did. Not all of it was up my alley but on the whole, it's much more interesting than I expected. Drony, repetitive guitar work is great as a counter to the saccharine melodic vocals. Never heard of this before.

This just felt like pretty standard ambient pop. Nice and chill to have on in the background, but really the most versatile of albums.

This was pretty good. I was surprised at this being from 2017.

*Cool and unique to listen to, but nothing that really interested me after this first listen

Very interesting. never heard of her before. Very briefly got Daft Punk Tron vibes but of course went in a different direction.

I went into this with trepidation expecting modern folk, but I ended up liking it quite a bit. Nice easy listening music, all flowed well with good arrangement/singing. Wouldn't be my go to but pleasantly surprised.

I love this kinda sleepy music, I can’t lie and she did it well. Her voice was therapeutic in a way and it was nice to see a recent album in here.

Surrealisme, chill.

I liked this album, but it's been a few days since I listened and it didn't stick with me very well. Listening again, I still think it is pretty good, but this just doesn't hold its own among some of my top albums on the list. I've tended to be more generous on my rankings, but this one's probably middle of the road. Favorite track: "Slow Motion"

Alku oli pirun hyvä, sit vähä lässähti

Some songs did not suck!

Another one of those artists I've never heard of, it feels a bit dream poppy. Not my favorite style of music but I don't mind it at all. It's super chill if you are into that I'd say it's about middle of the road for me: 2.5.

What is this?

Thought this was nice but I don’t have any strong feelings on it

One can listen to this album and really completely zone out...psychedelic rock isn't always my thing but sometimes it's interesting and I didn't mind this.

3.5 stars

IT was mild music. Nothing wrong, but nothing that stands out. PErfectly good for background music while you are doing something else. But nothing inspiring or exciting. Not something I would listen to on purpose, but if it was on at someone's house while we were hanging out in the backyard, I wouldn't mind.

First time with this artist, enjoyed it and digging into their discography

Okay, starts slow but gets a little better. One of those ones that if you listened to it 5 or 6 times then it would grow on you more and more. Songs can blend in to one another a bit. Good background music. Found myself being able to focus on other tasks with this on.

Really interesting listen, lots of vintage synth sounds and ethereal vocals. Not sure how often I would revisit, but I liked. 3 Stars.

Chill Sunday morning vibes. Also a little eccentric.

The smooth voice of Jane Weaver is contrasted with somewhat harsh or dark instrumentals made with electronic synths, which creates an interesting atmosphere. The rhythmic section serves as an engine. In its monotony, the bass and drums put you in a trance. The whole album mantains a similar tone of retro - futurism. I Think it is a good album, but a bit repetitive and not groundbreaking.

Reasonably pleasant. But what on Earth is it doing here? It’s nowhere close to essential.

I honestly thought this was a solo project by a member of The Go-Go's so really wasn't sure what to expect. It's pleasant enough indie pop but as so many other people have noted it's baffling how this made the list. There's no room for Bat For Lashes, Cat Power or Waxahatchee all of whom released far more noteworthy records in the last 20 years, yet somehow this is being canonised If you want something British from 2017 surely Sampha or Idles' debut have more merit for inclusion than a mid-career album from someone so obscure. Favourite songs were The Architect (not as good as a song of the same name by dEUS) and Valley (not as good as a song of the same name by Kevin Morby).

It’s giving Stereolab

This is different, and I like it for it. Not my favorite style of music, but it has crisp strings, clear voice, and good beats.

Favorite Track: The Lightning Back

Super mellow but very pleasant experience.

Enjoyable

Didn't think I'd heard of Jane Weaver and I want convinced initially. Not generally a fan of more electronic stuff..... But, this grew on me and I definitely knew slow motion but I don't know how. That was the highlight. Thought it all sounded crisp and well produced 3.5

It's a fine album, but why is it on this list?

Was stuck between a 2 and 3, but really enjoyed Slow Motion. Still, it's no Beach House.

enjoyable concept-ish album mixing some old schooly hippieness, with some modern electronica + folk aesthetics. (Yes, I realize this makes no sense, except for in my head).

Basically one big song

Pretty one note through out the whole album. Pleasant but why is this on the list?

This album didn't grab me right away but it grew on me. A pleasant listen.

There are some interesting moments here but not enough to really hold my interest or make me want to seek out more. Pleasant is the word

It was alright, quite ambient and interesting enough

So I listened yesterday and I thought meh and I listened today and I though well I kind of like it. So I am not really sure how to rate it. Nothing was overly special or different, but it was pleasant and had sort of a folky vibe that I enjoy. I think some days I could bump it up but other days I would bump it down so the middle seems good.

This had a pretty ethereal quality to it, but it all just kind of ran together for me and nothing was very wowing.

I'd never heard of Jane Weaver before this album appeared. And I'm pleasantly surprised. Nice dreamy vocals, hints of krautrock, Stereolab and VU. Though I am wondering how such a record ended up on this list, considering the lack of general knowledge of the album. Fave track: Slow Motion

Fairly relaxing.

I like it! Not really distinctive for me, it reminded me of a bunch of similar sounding artists, but good atmospheres and nice songs.

A bit surprised it wasn’t the one with smoke on the water

Pretty fun electronic indie with some witchy, psychedelic vibes. Nothing that really grabbed me, but still had some tracks I'd listen to again.

Trippy, space-y down tempo rock! Cool vocals, laid back vibe. Seamless transitions, sort of prog rock elements to the album's composition. Not bad!

Not bad. Quite listenable electronic pop but her voice doesn’t really do it for me. Slow motion was nice. Never heard of her before either!

Fun, folksy british electronic. Enjoyed.

I like this. It is a mix of pop and electronic. I don't know if it falls into the must listen category, but I enjoy it and I'm glad I listened to it. I'll also likely forget I liked it in a short period of time. 3/5

That is an interesting one. A bit more modern, obscure electro folk.

This was a pretty interesting listen. The sound is like a folk rock / electronica vibe, and Jane has a good voice to match the material. It's not exactly groundbreaking, but it's a well made album.

This is an album Cool-adjacent

Cool album. Nice rhythms and interesting production. 3-3.5 stars, maybe someday when 4 stars.

Some good pop songs but more repetitive than I wanted them to be

Some major holes in this album. some good songs though.

Sonido moderadamente interesante. Creo que lo que más me gusta del disco es el arte de tapa

Not bad

I really liked the start of this. But then it got too drone-y and static-y for my tastes.

This was pretty enjoyable. I wasn't expecting to like it but a few songs got me moving

Not a bad record!

I’d say this is like dark pop? There’s a Hope Sandoval vocal, a bit Men I Trust vibe too. I’ve since listened to more of her music and I like it!

Rated it. Nothing ground breaking but an easy listening record. Dwindles towards the end

Pleasant-sounding album - I especially enjoyed some of the spacier, krautier textures in there - but at just 43 minutes it was blending a bit too much for my tastes.

Pleasant listening with some nice instrumentals, aaaand that's about it. I struggle to say much more about it. Standouts: Slow Motion • I Wish

This was fiine. Nothing special, i dont think it deserves the space, but absolutely listenable. Low 3

I mean this is basically a more poppy stereolab. It is nice to listen to , but I am battling to see what makes it stand out to put it on this list. Yes, there are some good songs, but nothing that makes me go wow. All that said, I enjoyed listening to it. It is more than a standard 3, so I will give it 3.5 stars.

I either really enjoyed the songs or really disliked them. In particular, the song Ravenspoint made me lose a lot of goodwill for this album. Couldn't wait for it to be done.

Dreamy indie rock/folk vibes on this one, reminiscent of the late 2000s which I love. The title track has perfectly balanced psychedelic rock tones.

This is an odd album to rate for me. Nothing about this album was offensive, but I don’t know why this was included on the list. As a 2017 release, it just felt like a less creative Stereolab album. It was easy to listen through, but definitely not something I’d consider everyone needs to listen to before they die.

I actually dig the "female krautrock" thing, but the writing could be significantly improved and the singing is nothing special. "Ravenspoint" is a misstep on an otherwise-solid collection of songs. All in all though I just can't fathom why this made the cut for being a must-listen when modern classics like Tame Impala's "Currents" are absent.

After the first song, I thought this would be a two star album at best. But it improved for me from there, where I enjoyed listening to most of it. I will settle on three stars.

I had no idea what to expect from this album. Reading a little bit about it left me uncertain as well. I liked some of the songs, especially the ones with a bit more rhythm. It was also my second album in a row with a weird spoken part, and like yesterday’s it took me out of the mood and decreased my interest. A solid 3 for me.

Un album bastante original. Una fusión de estilos muy bien llevada a cabo. 6/10

A fun and interesting listen with some catchy melodies. Architect was the best song.

Surprising and intriguing

I genuinely don’t get why this is here. Nothing wrong with it but it is more or less anonymous.

I think there is some inherent expectation for albums on this list to be influential and game-changing. Modern Kosmology may not be one of these albums, but it is still very much an interesting listen I'm glad to have discovered.

It's okay ... some good songs by a seasoned pro.

Pretty good would put on again

This was kinda strange but interesting.

the parts of this i liked were the parts that felt very arcade fire-y. didn't stand out very much but it was fine. weird to not have heard an artist this recent

h>a>k findi etz no geil sie singt cool und de song het huere drive. did you see butterflies und modern kosmology hani chli weniger interessant gfunde. slow motion isch etz au ehner afoch nochdenkliche electropop. überhaupt nöd schlecht, amne konzert würis voll fühle. aber nöd mega mini musig. loops in the secret society sehr cooli melodie und geili akkörd i like. the architect coooli synths. find meistens d songs fönd no geil aah und denn verlüreds mi es bitz. he so langsam hani bitz gseh? s isch immer wieder interessant, sehr experimentell au zum teil, gad ravenspoint. git es wohlwollends 3.

Inoffensive pop, but why is it on the list?

Her voice is a bit weak, but I enjoyed the music generally, a nice blend of genres that never grated and sometimes got a little interesting. Three stars, but almost four. I actually think I would have liked a slightly longer album, with maybe a couple of longer tracks.
