Reviews (page 3 of 10)

Y ni siquiera es su mejor álbum.

Volatile moody unpredictable

Great and successful debut album of the successful band! So energetic!

So flippin good

Amazing! Not as big of a fan of their later electro work but this album is right in my wheelhouse

Incredible from start to finish. The pace is incredible and it just doesn’t let up.

Maps. They don't love you like I love you.

Y control is a bop.

Liked it, should listen again

Best one yet!

Straight outta the East Villy. Surprised I've never listened to this.

Fantastic album, love it. Fave three track sequence = "Maps" -> "Y Control" -> "Modern Romance".... so good!

Great album

Excellent. Love this album.

This album kicks so much ass.

I've gone from being surprised that Yeah Yeah Yeahs have two albums on this list to thinking that's fair enough because they are both bangers.

so sick

так так такс! це дуже прикольний альбом з запальною першою і вже більш розміряною другою частиною. Класна музика шоб з кимсь побитись :р

I am usually put off by this level of screechiness, but Yeah Yeah Yeahs rides the line perfectly for me

The second half is so much better than the first half. They won me over.

For some reason, I never got into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs when they were at the height of their fame. I think I missed out though, because they're pretty good.

Blind album, know the artist from another album on the project. I loved the feel of this album way more than the other though. Classic punk instruments, no electronic, seemed more on par. 4.

I'm glad this album is on the list. It was such a great jumping-off point for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and established so much of what would make them one of the most interesting indie rock bands of the 2000s. The album is gritty, punky, and full of energy, but underneath all that noise are some genuinely great songs. Karen O is an absolute force, and it's easy to hear why she became one of the defining front women of her generation. Most everything that has come from this band, and from Karen O's various projects since, has ranged from good to great. The two standout tracks are "Maps" and "Y Control," in my opinion. Those songs feel like the clearest blueprint for where the band would head next, balancing raw energy with stronger melodies and songwriting.

I'd heard Maps but didn't know the band, and the rest was all new to me. I really like it. Punky indie, little bit like the Pixies but very much its own thing.

Dark and rocking. I enjoyed it. Would I listen again, maybe, maybe not

Time capsule! I guess in tandem with Indie Sleaze (tm) there was also what I didn’t recognize at the time as a siouxie and the banshees 80’s dark girl revival? Maps is still an all timer.

The non-air conditioned production on this one made a massive difference to my listening experience. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs sound like an actual band on here rather than some LinkedIn ted talk, the instrumentation packs a punch and the songs feel much more purposeful and emotionally dextrous, often veering slightly off course from the standard verse-chorus-verse formula to inject some noisy tension. Yeah, I'd return to this.

Actually quite enjoyable, which I wasn't expecting

Great record. Love Karen O’s voice.

И сейчас звучит разъебно

Their best album. It can be a tough listen in full and I think needs some bass to counter the shrill, but it's still great. Art indie punk rock. Band are on top form.

Nostalgia overload but also still a brilliant album. Every track (except No No No) is great fun, and going from Maps into Y Control is as good as anything that came out of this NY scene. Even the sequencing feels nostalgic, with the traditional slow big drum track at the end. Still sounds massive, too.

A genuinely fun album from front to back

Vocal is a bit annoying, but this is a quality throwback. I'm a simple woman - I like music that's all bash and thrash. 2003 was a good year for that. I enjoyed it.

Great. Noisy and wild, with a lovely change in pace and tone on the B side. Will be revisiting this one for sure.

interesting at first sight

Me da vibes a bikini kill pero mas hard Wait they dont love u like i love u!!!!

A name that I didn’t expect to see on this list, but I’m happy it is! Rich was a pretty good introduction to this album! I love how punk it is, so different from the more modern alt-pop stuff they’ve done. As a rule I don’t like moaning in music, but other than that I quite liked Date With the Night. Man was a great short track of which I really thought the lyrics were great, simple, but it conveyed a story. Tick again had those great drums and pretty cool riff. I really liked Black Tongue. Pin was awesome! I thought the sensual tone of Cold Light was great. It conveyed the essence of the track without being too too heavy on the sexual noises. No no no was alright, I just didn’t love the extended outro. Maps is obviously an incredible listen, love that track so much. Y control was great! I loved the swooping guitar. Modern romance was just beautiful! Poor song was a great way to end this off. It was strange to me how the first half was almost pure punk, and then it went into more alt rock/pop rock by the end. Anyway, great album. 4/5 ⭐️ because I don’t like moaning in songs. 146/1089

Love it

Really surprised I didn’t listen to these at the time

What an album, great memories

Hell yeah hell yeah hell yeah

Hell yeah. Feels a bit dated, but still fun.

This shit rocks. Maps came out of no where when I was vibing with the punk and rocked me. Great jams

Solid listen. Sounds like if Modest Mouse went punkier

3.5-4/5. I’ve heard Maps quite a few times. I enjoyed Date with the Night and No No No and Modern Romance. The combo of the shrieking vocals with the punchier guitar and drums is chaotic and cool at times, but I like the softer songs towards the end.

I enjoyed this one more than I'd like to admit.

'So unloved / I took 'em standin' up / So stuck up / Raaawr!'; 'Choke, choke, choke, choke'; 'I got a man who makes the devil pale.' Not as good as The Strokes b/c they lack the hits but better than The Strokes b/c they're way splashier & way punkier. Karen O is a legitimate inheritor of Poly Styrene & Polly Jean Harvey, only two tracks here hit the four min mark, & the overall flavor is an up-to-no-good-don't-give-a-fuck-mash. Madder & louder than you're likely to recall, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are no innocent pop statement, but hard as nails & boast experimental bravado. Don't say you've heard it all before - this is a fantastic installment of good ol' rock 'n' roll w/ a whole lot to say b/c it doesn't say too much. 'Time time is gone / It never lasts.'

Yea man.

Uh huh uh huh uh huh ow

7/10 Best songs: Maps, Y Control Yeah Yeah Yeahs fit in such a specific period of my life - it's strange to listen to them now, disconnected from other music of the time. Their music is interesting in that it exists in a space in between "rock" and "punk," yet never fully falls into either genre. Generally speaking their lyrics are a bit shallow for me, and I can only sparingly handle Karen O's voice, but the album is overall strong and they don't really sound like any of their contemporaries, so they deserve their flowers.

I forgot they were this good!

Harsh, discordant, era-defining. Someone get me what Karen O was taking

This is great! Had another album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs already but this one is better. A rawer sound that reminds me of early white stripes who were around at the same time. Also has a couple of their best tunes, including maps, which is a classic

Wow I liked this so much better than their other album on the list. So much more energy.

Überraschend gut

RATING: 8.5/10 HIGHLIGHT: Date With the Night LOWLIGHT: Y Control

I need this album when I am in the middle of DFW traffic. It would certainly jazz me up!

I liked it they’ve got a good sound. 4 might be a bit generous but who cares. Also they had the funny meme song https://tinyurl.com/4u4zkm9y

Im quite fond of maps

3,82 1. "Maps" 2. "Rich" 3. "Y Control"

The benefit of listening to the 1001 albums is hearing things that are out of your comfort zone, or hearing things that you just missed or otherwise didn’t have time to get to when they came out. This album is a perfect example. Great little punky tunes. I found myself liking this very much. I liked the way she uses word repetition and nonsense syllables to achieve rhythm.

Fever to Tell is this crazy, dare I say fever dream of early 2000s New York energy. The music has this raw, almost wild feeling that totally grabs you, mainly because of Karen O's vocals, she goes from super sultry whispers to totally unhinged screams at the drop of a hat. Even though the sound is a bit rough around the edges, kind of like a chaotic garage demo, the band's chemistry makes it work. It's a bit of a mess, but it feels super of the moment and still sounds good today. "Maps" is definitely the standout track, a real gem that still hits hard. The rest of the album is more experimental, from the intense "Date With The Night" to the catchy "Rich". It's not for everyone, some tracks feel more about attitude than songwriting, but the album's bold choices make it a must-listen for any wannabe indie rock fans.

funn!!!!! very raw and of its time. think i would like it more if i could skateboard

"Fever to Tell is a thrilling blast of garage rock, post-punk, and art-rock energy. Driven by Karen O's charismatic vocals and the band's raw, urgent sound, it captures the excitement of early-2000s indie rock while delivering unforgettable tracks like “Maps” and “Y Control.” Chaotic, emotional, and fiercely original, it's one of the defining debut albums of its era.

Favorite Track: Modern Romance Least Favorite Track: Man

7 - GOOD

Very grungy and a bit repetitive but it has its moment, maps for example.

I forgot how good this was. Pretty great throughout. Last couple of songs kind of throw the brakes on the momentum, but very good overall.

First time I’ve played this in full, don’t know why but I always assumed I’d dislike it. Her voice has annoyed me in the past. BUT, very good, once again I’ve been proved wrong by the list.

Another album I am in the bag for before I listen to it. This album was played at every party in 03 you couldn't go to a bar near campus without hearing Maps. If you made a 1001 songs I would argue for Maps to have a place on that list, it's amazing, I love that song. The rest of the album is great but Maps is a different sound from the rest of the album so if you think they are all going to sound like the hit they won't. Similarish but not quite. It's like a weird indie punk kind of thing. This is a fun album that I'm not sure what genre it goes into. AlternaIndie? Give it a listen. It's well worth your time.

la Constitución de la república del indie slaze

The only Yeah Yeah Yeahs song I know going into this is Maps so let’s see how the rest of the album is. That was simultaneously exactly what I expected and a complete surprise. I love it.

Imagine you're a music journalist around the turn of the century. The paper you work for had been serving the hype machine for 50 years by bringing the underground kids the "next big thing" on a weekly basis. Some of these (inevitably) guitar bands had gone on to be genuinely popular with hit records and everything! But what if the record company PR teams stopped serving you up the good stuff? Because let's face it, most music journalists didn't discover new talent by going out and finding it, they mostly regurgitated press releases... Circa 2000, we (the music-obsessed indie kids - the people who bought the NME and kept their advertisers happy) were being fed some absolutely dire new bands to love. Remember Jet? The Vines? The D4?! There was good stuff out there (there always is - Sleater-Kinney, Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura produced some astonishing records during this period - too feminine for the idiot journos though), but the industry wanted to sell us a bunch of unimaginative macho rock n roll bands who didn't have an original riff between them. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were a part of that cohort. Their one saving grace was Karen O. An actual woman amongst the sea of dull-witted posturing men! It wasn't enough to save the press, but at least this New York band weren't identical to all the other shite out there. Fever To Tell is an okay album from a period in rock's history that the music journalists of the time should be thoroughly ashamed about.

I realize I'm a simple guy. I like noise, I like melody, I like the crisp lyrics, I like a distinctive voice. I never heard the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before. Don't ask me what I was doing in the early 2000s. I like this quite a bit.

Early aughts pink sound

Was feeling mostly meh about the first half of this album, with "Man" being the only standout for me. In the back half, I already knew and liked "Maps" but ended up really enjoying "Y Control" and also liked "No No No" and "Modern Romance"

I've heard Maps hundreds of times but never put on this full album. What a great debut. Karen Os heartfelt, softer, love songs shine above the indie punk at the beginning. I'm glad they harnessed these things together in later albums. Karen 0 is one of those artists that I like to say I see myself being like assuming I could sing with a band on stage. Love the little parts where she was singing the guitar riffs.

Entretenidos

There’s something about the yeah yeah yeahs where almost every song feels familiar even though I’m not positive I’ve heard it before. I have listened to this album before but my point stands. It’s all pretty good. A lot of it enters my brain as more surface level and pleasant than something I can sink my teeth into but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Maps is excellent. Light 4.

This album was a bit more dynamic than many indie rock records of the 2000's and that's a plus for me. Some of the guitar was fuzzier than I would like but the percussion sounded great. Karen O is a singer who clearly means every word she is singing (Check out album closer "poor song" to hear what I mean), and so while this album was not fully my taste, I can respect what this band is doing.

Previously rated: #134 It's Blitz! (3/5) ************************ Album #1,086 Another band I forgot I already listened to. This one is more aggressive hard rock than the poppier It's Blitz! Plus it has Maps and Date With The Night. Yeah, sometimes the singer's voice gets a bit grating, but overall it was a good time.

Can I be honest with you all? I know Fever to Tell is generally considered to be the best Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, but I kinda prefer It's Blitz! over this one. Let's talk about that for a bit. This is my second Yeah Yeah Yeahs album of the list, and while I do prefer It's Blitz! myself as I've stated, I feel like Fever to Tell is probably the better choice for a list like this given its importance for the band. I can't deny that. Besides, it's not even like the preference is that strong. I'm giving this album the same score as that one. However, there is a matter of personal taste that leads to said preference existing. I think it's mostly the production. Fever to Tell is definitely on the more raw side of the production spectrum. It's the louder of the two albums, you know? I can definitely see someone enjoying this more because of that, but I will admit that the more dance-punk oriented production of It's Blitz! appeals to me just a bit more. I think the writing on this album is also a little repetitive. Well, it's repetitive within each song. I think the album has enough variety across its runtime to appeal to me, but I'm noticing that the songs each tend to repeat certain lines over and over again. I think this works sometimes, but not always. The album has great songs though, don't get me wrong. "Maps" is awesome. I really like "Y Control." "Rich" is a cool opener. The album's good, okay? Karen O's vocal performance is passionate. The rest of the band have some good musical parts that they deliver. It's a good time, though I personally believe it to not quite be the band's peak. Light 4/5.

Really enjoyed this one, especially the second half of the album.

Very Noisy, but quite good.

Abgefahren. Gefällt mir gut!

This album ushered in the indie sleaze era. This is the pinnacle of my formative years as i was 15 when this came out. Meet me in the bathroom!

I love a squealer

4 stars for Maps, but I have to agree with Angie's take on this: "It's screamy"

Never really listened to this band before, but remember Maps from Rock Band. Back in college we were at a party and this girl was obsessed with that song. She’s dead now, and that’s the first thing that comes to mind every time I hear Maps.

Energy, beautiful vocals, some (some!) great lyricism. Maps being an absolute masterpiece. Some tracks needed more development but it's a debut and reminds me of being 16.

Great album

Quintessential post-punk revival, blending Riot Grrl with British Invasion. Karen O gives Johnny Rotten a run for his money. 23 years later and the standout tracks are still "Maps" and "Black Tongue". Every time I listen to Maps it's like hearing it for the first time.

I’ve heard this before and I own it. I haven’t listened to this one in well over a decade. Honestly I barely remember what this band sounds like. There are some good riffs on here and everything is really energetic, and there are some good noise breakdowns which I always like. I am remembering when this came out when the whole garage rock and post punk revivals were happening, and there were a lot of bands with no bass player or just one guitar and these guys were one of the better ones at achieving a full sound rather than just being a novelty. I’m not a huge fan of the vocals, I think this style became kinda cliched in the ‘00s though I’m not sure if there were other vocalists aping her style or she was following the general trend. This is really bringing me back to the indie scene at the time and how exciting it was outside of the garage bands that were being overhyped.

Number: 68 Date: 03/08/2026 Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Album: Fever To Tell Year: 2003 Genre: Garage rock Rating: 4 Notes: Before: Yay!!!, It's the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! I should like this. I know I have several of their songs in my favorites by yearly lists. From this particular album I have Maps ranked 6 and Y Control ranked 36 out of 47 songs for 2003. During: Hmm. I guess this was their debut album. 4 Rich 4 Date With The Night 4 Man 4 Tick 3 Black Tongue 3 Pin 4 Cold Light 3 No No No 5 Maps 5 Y Control 3 Modern Romance 3 Poor Song ------------------------------ 3.8 AVERAGE After : After: 4 - my personal rating 5 - suitability for this list 4 - relevance

I didn't think I knew many songs from this album, turns out my Dad's a big fan on the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and I knew a lot of these songs from him playing them growing up! It was super fun to rediscover a lot of these and I love thier experimental, chaotic sound. Karen O carries each song with passion and an artistic flair that I just think makes this album so fun

Great album, good nostalgia.

Sounds a bit like Chrissie Hynde fronting Sonic Youth. Not a sound I would be down for every day, but I’m digging it today.

Very good album

Incredibly emotive and energetic. And their debut! Goddamn, Karen O, no one does it like you.

I had not really listened to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before this other than the singles, very good album

Really enjoyed. Will listen to them again

listened to again still good

Rich is not a great Yeah Yeah Yeahs song. Date With The Night is better. I like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and they have a really distinctive sound, but I like It's Blitz! better. Maps...great song and by far their biggest hit. It also apparently had some resurgence on TikTok in a fifteen second clip of the chorus. Kids are so stupid. It's got THE hit and everything else is good. It just isn't hitting me the same way.

Is this characterized as post punk? I really love the grunge influence and you can hear the influence this had on several bands I fw today. Highlights: Black Tongue, Maps

Like a 3.75 for me. I like the back half more but I wanna keep the good vibes of this week going. Another solid album.

It is a good one, first half is pretty fun Will I listen to again: 99%

Karen Ohs vocals take some getting used to here but the instrumentals are incredible. Especially the guitars. Rewards multiple visits and maps is an all time track for me.

Love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - really enjoyed this album - I thought I'd get sick of it somewhere there, however that didn't happen and I thought it was great

Great alt-rock

Kinda funny how my favorite song on this is No No No. I enjoyed the back half quite a bit more than the front, but it was still fun. Karen O's vocals are bombastic and wild, she's a great frontwoman.

more like fever to yell

I gotta hand it to karen o.

4/5 Dá vontade aumentar o volume.

loved this!!

Favourite Songs: Rich Date With The Night Black Tongue

Rae and punky, definitely can hear their established sound starting to form.

Very enjoyable! ★★★★

Oh my god???

I knew Y Control before listening to this album, so I had high expectations. And I won't deny it, it was a super fun album. I got Siouxsie & The Banshees vibes from certain parts. However, I could NOT take the random noises very seriously. I can only think of some 38 year old woman named Brenda who squeaks or screams when she sees a puppy😅 Would listen again, 4.5/5

Heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a lot but never actually listened to them before. This was pretty good.

Top notch album, definitely my favourite of their albums. Shame Maps was the single that took off and not Pin or Y Control, each to their own though!

I mean, I've heard Maps and it's a great song, but I had no idea the rest of this album was so effing PUNK ROCK.

An album that feels like a bullet. Some of the songs are same-y at the outset. The end add a lot of diversity, though. Ultimately, it kicks ass.

Favorites 1. Rich 9. Maps 10. Y Control 12. Poor Song

I just recently had It's a Blitz. And this one is much better. Not mine kind of music, but that energy and enthusiasm in both music and singing is just appealing. Some nice hooks too. While I don't like indie/alternative, this album somehow manages to avoid most of the things I don't like about these genres, so it's a nice surprise. Won't return to blitz, most likely will return to this one.

Great stuff. Has that early 2000s feel to it. Evokes the feeling of a start screen for a skating/racing video game from the era. Probably not everyone's cup of tea; it's "stupid", but in a fun and genuine way.

I saw them open for the White Stripes around when this was released. Great band, fun album.

I really enjoyed this album. The band sounds great and Karen brings it every song. A high energy romp!

This is definitely in my wheelhouse stylistically. I listened to this a fair bit when it was new. I feel like some of the lesser tracks on here didn't age super well. Some of this is really stellar though (Maps, Y Control, Pin). This isn't a timeless classic or anything, but I would put it on again in a heartbeat.

I really loved the exuberant vocals and noisy yet melodic cacophony of sounds throughout.

the indomitable youthful spirit is the foundation that allows all the weird squeals and high slurring vocal inflections to feel fitting on here. i love me some twinkly dreamy guitar tones but this is one of the few exceptions where i'm glad they stayed low all the way through. the melodies are catchy, the attitude is infectious. all i could wish for is some longer songs and a little more punch in her voice when she's really shouting on tracks like "Date With The Night" Highlights: Rich Y-Control Black Tongue Maps

Standouts - Rich - Very solid start! Inteersting vocals, easy riffs and a good groove even a bit of feedback here and there! 💗 - Date with the night - The breakdowns where they gunk up the mixing is so fun I'm in love... - Cold Light - The ending of this song with the crunchy riffs and varying experimental sounds made me very happy.. - No No No - Generally fun song throughout and I lost myself in the atmospheric/experimental ending I can't help but jam to every song the energy in her singing is so infectious. This would have been so fun live. Love the low, nosiy guitars and I love they play with mixing quality of them to great effect. I think this band would have suited some longer songs. The ending few songs are calmer and I appreciate those have their place in albums but they don;t use any of the other sounds going in on in this album. Just because a song is slow doesn't mean you can't do experimental/noisy things in them! High 4

Maps had a bit of a resurgence this past year due to TikTok complete with a dance. I only know this because as the song came on the radio, my teenage son knows it & the little dance. I'm like: How do you know this old song? He is like: TikTok. So I guess thats a good thing to hear about a song having a second chance. This was a surprise for me as I've only heard Maps & a cover of Highway 61. This was a frantic ball of indie punk energy. Her voice is slightly annoying & slightly arousing with a slight hint of punk Bjork. Why do hit singles tend to sound like they are from another planet? I've noticed it since I've started The List. It can be frustrating at times. 4

I really expected to hate this but...

Overall, this album is pretty raw. Maps stands out and is honestly one of my favorite random songs from a band that I don't listen to consistently. It was a pretty fun listen.

Interesting as this is best known for Maps but the chaotic indie-disco sound is probably more typical of the album's style. I really enjoyed it. There is a slightly unhinged nature to this music, where you feel like it could go off the rails at any moment. I found that quite compelling.

Energetic and fun. Definitely rocks. Bit of a whirlwind. Not sure I can sink my teeth into though, but need to listen to it a few more times. 3.65 stars.

I’d never previously listened to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I’m glad to have heard this album - I thought it was really good. I’ll dip into more of their stuff as a result.

Epic, Karen O is a true rock star.

I knew Maps via a Women of Rock Sirius Xtra channel and might have heard another song or two via that channel. This was a lot of raucous fun to listen to

Just fine.

The last good yeah yeah yeahs record

This felt like classic punk with modern attitude. I’m here for this

It’s pretty good ig

I wanted to give this a 3.5, but no half-stars, so four it is. I liked the energy a lot, and the vocals are aggressive without feeling like she’s just screaming at me. The raw, jittery momentum mostly kept me engaged, but I did get bored during “Maps,” which is where they lost that half star.

I really like this band. Great vocals and energetic and interesting instrumentals. It took a few songs to warm up to, but once it hit Pins, I was fully into it.

WAIT THEY DONT LOVE YOU LIKE I LOVE YOU

This rips, way more reminiscent of DFA1979 and the white stripes than I expected. Love it.

Genre: Garage Rock Revival Hey… this album cranks. I was expecting to enjoy this, or at least enjoy Maps, which I like. But man, Karen O and co. put on a damn good show. It’s impressive how much of a difference there is between the obvious single, the watered down and distilled “Maps” vs. something like “Black Tongue”, a heavy, vulgar, drug-fueled rock jam. A lot of the tracklist surprised me. I loved this. Will relisten! 4/5

Only heard Maps prior to listening to this. This was a pretty good album with a unique sound.

This album just shouts in your face in a way that most albums try but fail.

? YYY post-punk find ich gut. c

Hell Yeah, fun and upbeat, really enjoyed it. The best song is Maps.

Nice. Old, Nostalgic songs

Okay Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I see you. Opens with a bang bang, coasts for a few tracks, then hits you with the hits. The band has said repeatedly that it wants to be fun and uplifting; a counter-punch to the '90s heroin seriousness, and I think this delivers on that. Influence 3. Hits 4. Quality 4. Intangibles 3. This is fun punk and I love it 4.

Great punk sound. Wasn't expecting this from only having heard Maps before.

Quite like this one. Inspired me to explore their entire catalog.

Wasn’t sure what to expect but enjoyed this, nice early 2000s garage rock vibes. Good fun, brought the energy, cool noise from a trio.

I'll definitely go back to this one. Catchy tunes, good energy, I liked it very much.

Really solid indie rock, maps is amazing

Great stuff. I don't think I'll tire of this anytime soon.

Having only really known Maps before this, it was way more noisy and punky than I would have thought. Me likey!

Ever seen that video how Ted Leo does Kelly Clarkson into Maps. Naughties as. Can't believe this cam out in '03. Pretty sure we got it in' 05 in NZ. I might be confusing this with the other one but what can ya do. Cool album at the time. The big songs still rip hard. Karen-O's guest spots have always been decent since.

No no no is my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs song. Nope I lied it’s Maps.

I thorougly enjoyed 'It's Blitz' when it came up earlier on this list, and 'Fever to Tell' may just be better! Despite it being Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut record, 'Fever to Tell' packs the punch of a seasoned punk group already comfortable stirring up fun-loving chaos. Karen O's off-the-wall vocals possess plenty of charisma and charm, and given this record is the work of a three-piece, it sounds so grand and punchy. Through raucous numbers such as 'Tick', 'Rich', 'Date With the Night' and 'Maps', 'Fever to Tell rolls along like a freight train, not letting up across its entire 36 minutes. Karen O's impressive presence up front certainly drives this record, as its clear she's a true individual who's unafraid to provoke. I look at what Amy Taylor does with Amyl and the Sniffers and see plenty of Karen O's influence. 'Fever to Tell' is another solid record with some infectious modern punk. Plenty here to like! Best songs: Rich, Date With the Night, Tick, Black Tongue, Maps

It’s worth a four solely for Maps.

Fuckin heavy as dicks! I see now where Sex Bob-omb got their sound. Legitimately innovative and well produced, and the fullest guitar and drum only sound I've heard. Probably the pinnacle of early 2000's garage rock.

I definitely thought they were another overhyped NME darling at the time but probably harshly. It is possible to be really good and also overrated if you’re being rated through the wazoo when you’re actually just really good. The fizzy, punky stuff is what made their name and elevated Karen O to indie goddess status but I personally think they’re at their best on the more layered, slow burners such as Maps and Modern Romance. I don’t know who needs to read this as well but Spitting Off The Edge Of The World from their 2022 comeback album is an absolute stunner and reminder of the immense potential that earned them all that hype 20 years prior.

It's a really good album. Unexpected and unusual sound considering how little i listen to rock these days. I would listen to it again

Rocked fairly hard

Another surprising entry, I liked it a lot but I'm not sure why I *needed* to listen to it. Just because it's a female fronted punk band? Either way, It was a fun listen, so I'm not mad.

While not exactly a breath of fresh air, Yeah Yeah Yeahs arrived at the right moment, when the walls were coming down in regards to what's considered hip or not and how it could impact the tastes of those who come across it for the first time. On its surface, Fever to Tell could be lumped in with its contemporaries in the indie rock boom of the time and no eyelids would be batted. However, upon closer inspection, there is a galvanizing and energetic energy that still rumbles twenty plus years on. Is it worthy of a revisit? Yeah yeah yeah! Favorites: Rich, Date with the Night, Man, Tick, Pin, Cold Light, No No No, Maps, Y Control.

Pretty cool. Comfortable rock.

I’d heard a couple of songs from this record (like the immortal and moving “Maps”) but hadn’t ever listened in full. I’m glad to see that it rocks top to bottom. Great production and Karen O’s versatile, charismatic vocal performance hits the mark more often than not (it does sometimes miss). Nothing complex or overdone here - it gets the job done.

Coming from the art rock / no wave revival from NYC I remember seeing them at Emo's in Austin Texas playing with two other bands who I felt better represent that sound but did not make it. If you like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and have not heard The Seconds or Ex Models you really need to do yourself a solid and get to listening to them. In fact the drummer from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was the drummer for The Seconds. This is a solid outing and good representation of that sound. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 over a 5 is because I think that The Seconds and Ex Models are better but I still like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Great debut album that still holds up. Love the guitar/bass and drumming. "maps" is stellar, but I also love the low end on "date with the night". "Y control" and "Pin" are good too, but not too many duds on this one.

Maps is one of those songs I’d always heard, but never really listened to. It’s a gorgeous slow burn with a deeply intense and personal performance. Everything else here impresses me too. There’s incredible layers of texture in the production. This three piece packs a punch. Consider me a new fan! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The mood, educated with a short fuze. This is very alive, lots of energy, punk influenced indie rock of the 2000s. This is THE rock and roll sound I associate with the turn of the century. The stuff that was edgy when you heard it on the FIFA main menu, on the iPod ads, or the background music for that particular brand of edgy youth. It made me miss Le Butcherettes, same ballpark different league. A second listen in the evening and I start to piece together the mesh of sounds they're throwing, it's generally pretty nice, it also has some very occasional cringe. It's not perfect, but it's raw so it proudly displays its efforts. It was fun, I wanna do it again sometime. 3.7/5

Totally dig this sound. Interesting band. I read, meet me in the bathroom, not too long ago and the yeah yeah yeah were a big part of the book. I gave them a listen then so i was a bit familiar going in. They were part of the same early 2000s New York City scene as the Strokes then later Kings of Leon ,The Killers, and White Stripes. They are one of the OGs in the garage rock resurgence of that era. This checks all the boxes for me. Powerful vocals, booming drums, driving guitar. Enough Punk attitude to frighten off the "normal" folks. They get a bit too experimental in spots, but fits the fearless nature of their music and makes it uniquely theirs. This is straight up in your face no apologies rock and I'm a fan.

Day640 - it’s good. it gave me concrete blonde vibes

Overall: 7/10 I mean, Maps is a masterpiece. Such a gorgeous song. The rest of the album is pretty good but nothing else they wrote compares to that one song in my opinion. Everything else is kind of garage rock/punk revival, which I like. Karen has a nice voice overall and the guitar work is a lot of fun. I'd recommend this to most people. Fav Song: Maps

Ok, as a general rule, I don’t like chicks singing punk. Too screechy and performative. But I’m warming up to Karen O. She’s got a Chrissie Hynde vibe that’s both sexy and vicious. The band name is dumb, but the music is legitimate.

3.9 3x good

T Stemm vo de Leadsängeri esch scho krass. Like

In 2003, I was convinced there was no more good music to be had. Then I heard this album and a handful of other bands and revised my opinion. This album is still a solid album, despite me not having listened to it since like 2006 or so. The band has moved on and gotten way more popular, and everything has changed. Still, a fun, snarling, rock n roll romp.

Just really fun and enjoyable, led to me putting on all five of their albums yesterday, with only one dud (Mosquito).

Yeah really like this album, the bangers bang. rich, pin and date with the night are top tier. And the slow song is a perfect slow song. Karen oh my god, you get 4 out of 5!

High energy fun album Standout songs Date with the night Nonono Maps

Parhaat: Maps, Y Control, No No No

I like the yeah yeah yeahs especially Maps

Such a fun listen

who knew this band was such a cornerstone of the 2000s, I know they got money

I like when women sing angrily

Nice album! Quick one, very energetic and fun.

I liked it.

Not quite the 5 I thought it might be, but a solid 4.5 - SUCH a good debut! Karen O is a legend

Classic, fun, catchy

A classic early 2000s indie rock album, fantastic to relisten! 4/5

This was Rich.

Karen O doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. The last track on this album is my new obsession.

Worth a re-listen from me.

Crunchier than the single.

Good stuff. Love a punk band with a female vocalist.

My review didnt get saved. Great album

Ten zespół ma pazur. Uwielbiam rockowe zespoły z damskimi wokalami, a tu mamy jeszcze taką surową, nieoszlifowaną wersję tego, co lubię w takich zespołach. Mocne 7/10

Kicks ass. Not what I would usually listen to but I dig it.

The shrillness should be really annoying but it isn't. Songs good for being angry or feeling empowered. A little weak towards the end.

damn fun… rich, man, tick, maps

Great energy, plenty of good riffs, Karen O's vocals are great throughout, calms down as it goes on but the quality doesn't decline. Solid 4, may add to the rotation

Definitely have to be in the mood for this one

Getting the shits from this fever

I really, really like this album, but it's just a little too raw sounding for me to love it. It's a little too punky for me. It's just a taste thing, as I know tons of people prefer that sound.

I quite liked this, although I do feel it faded right at the end.

It's just that Maps is one of the best songs to ever exist and I wish that every song on this album sounded like maps. "wait, they don't love you like I love you" are u kidding ???? woah i forgot this is the band that gave us heads will roll

Lots of punk, hints of Chrissie Hynde, very good album.

Just a badass rock band.. Love them!

Not my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs but Karen O rules

Surprisingly good throughout, besides the parts where the vocals are just too much.

I think I owned a copy of their follow up to this, but rarely listened and I vaguely remember it being a synthy affair. This album really pumps! It was grungy/garagey and had a cool range of songs. It began heavy, and then became more complex as it went on. Maps, the single I vaguely remember was enjoyable and then the two follow ups were even better. 4 stars. And, sorry for the lame review....

Started listening to it in the car and thought it was just noice. Then I listened to it at home and was surprised by how much ai liked it. Sounds like the singer can't resist singing to the music, like she really likes the music and just have to make noices to it. The guitar riffs and the almost skate punky drum sound goes well together.

I enjoy how the songs all sound like they’re on the same album, yet different enough to not get old too quick. They couldn’t have gone very much further without it getting repetitive, but a little over a half an hour is a good amount of time for an album. Lyrics are good. Vocals are unique. Instrumentation and production feel original and nicely implemented. Solid shit. 4/5

Mostly solid set of tracks with good passion.

4 - Good solid album

Fever To Tell is a really darn good album if i say so myself. This is one of those albums that's really deserving of having the label of garage rock as it really does sound like it was recorded by just a bunch of high school friends having a jam session in a garage. The songs are fast, frenetic, and rough which really gives it it's fun punkish nature. I would typically complain about albums that have a rough production style but in this case i feel like it adds to this album as it helps with it's punkish, garage rock nature. I will say that the vocals were a bit hit and miss as they could be good sometimes but not so good at others. Regardless, this is still a fun album that i really enjoyed listening to. Best Song: Y Control Worst Song: Poor Song

karen o you will aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllways be famous

Wait! They don’t love me like I love you. Wait! They don’t love me like I love you.

90s Riot Girlesc!

The Yeah yeah yeahs are my bag. I love the art rock sensibilities, Ms O's swagger and the beautiful guitars. I find their first three albums are all great without having any defining difference. Obviously Maps makes this more visible bit its all good.

Solid indie album. Didn't love every song, but "Maps" and "Black Tongue" are bangers. "Pin" was pretty ace too.

Really an underrated band. Hope TikTok gave em the boost Favorite Song: Tick 8/10

Second time this band lands on this list. And thanks to that, I discovered a band that I now listen to a lot. Raw, brutal and free. 8/10 fav songs : Rich & Maps

I certainly enjoyed the start. I think this will be an album that I like. Rich, Black Tongue (not sure about this one), Pin, and of course Maps.

Rich, Maps, Black Tongue, I'm a fan! That was a fun punky brewster of an album.

Very familiar with this album, used to listen to it a ton in high school/college! But back then I was so entranced by Karen O's vocals that I missed out on some of the instrumental details. There are some sick riffs packed into these songs, and they move so quickly and breathlessly that if you don't stop and look around, you might miss them. The album as a whole flows so effortlessly, and the songs sound so raw they could have been recorded in one take (probably not, though). Also vital: the slower, less intense songs are also great and spread nicely throughout the tracklist. I mean as loud, noisy, raw, and aggressive as most of the songs on this record are, the standout by far is the slower "Maps." There's something about the energy they were able to capture in the recording that tons of artists fall short of capturing. It felt like Yeah Yeah Yeahs were in the same stripped-down, garage rock revival lane as The White Stripes, but they were making fuller music than Jack & Meg with a ton more presence. Don't know how they did it but 22 years later (holy fucking shit) it still sounds incredible.

Pretty good

This is post-punk I can fully support. Karen O is magnificent, and her band is great. This will be one of my favorites. 4.5/5

Maps is an absolute monster of a song, the rest of it is really good too. Karen O is a fantastic vocalist and just when the band starts to burn out on blasted noisy punk blues garage band stuff they switch it up with No No No, Maps, Y Control, Modern Romance etc I think this is a 7/10 for me

Classic debut from the early aughts NYC scene. More fun after reading Meet Me in the Bathroom.

Feels like college, in a good way

A classic. The soundtrack to my teenage years.

Not really much to say. Pretty straightforward album with energetic, heavy riffs and enjoyable vocals. Pretty simple and nothing out of this world, but very fun.

Great noisy album.

big fan.

The ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’s’ was the collective noun Len Houmous uses for wives 12-18 4.0 2/12 Date With The Night

An excellent example of indie rock. High energy, Karen O has amazing vocal, and then just when you're feeling good.....Maps drops and you're crying in the club.

Most tracks felt like something I'd listen to while playing Tony Hawk as a kid, in a good way. Raw sound, fantastic drums and guitar distortion, kick-ass fem punk vocals. Funny stumbling into an incredibly popular TikTok song in "Maps" organically. "Tick" had some really infectious "Cherry Bomb" style energy to it. Nostalgic for an indie rock time I didn't really live through, cool stuff!

I want to hear more from them.

Loved it. Great energy!

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have maintained a high level of quality throughout their career. They appeared during a bountiful period for Post-Punk Garage Rock. I'd like to connect the movement to post-9/11 NYC zeitgeist, but can't really sell the connection. In any case, this is a fantastic debut that should be heard by all. Extra half-star for Karen O's single tear at the end of the video for "Maps."

3.5 stars. Rounded down because it's pretty much The Pretenders or The Runaways. Rounded back up to a 4 because I just love Karen O's voice.

Vibes!

I've always some singles by them, so nice to hear their debut album! Fun stuff here, if rawer than their later stuff

Slumped a bit in the middle, but maps elevated it and there are some interesting things going on musically. It also reminded me of the white strips, but instead of a man singing falsetto it is an actual woman which I liked better. Overall an enjoyable album

A bit grungy/screamy for me . but cool overall

Maps is one of the greatest love songs written of all time.

Great band great album

Karen O has a great voice and a string band to back her. Really good record that stands repeated listening.

This was good, I liked it a lot. If I had listened to it more around the time it came out, I might've even rated it higher.

Very early 2000s but it has aged well. Maps and rich are corkers

Some stinky guitar tones on this one, overall pretty solid

Some bangers on this album, pretty close to 5 stars, just missing that it-factor

Fast paced fun. Y control best song

The songs do sound a bit samey, but all in all I like them

The band was one of the better children born out of the original grunge movement of the late 80s to mid 90s. Major punk influences with the lofi artsy flair. "Date with the Night" is a very representative cut from the album. Karen O has a great no-Fs-given style where she belts in the loud screams when needed but lures in the listener with her quieter vocals. "Maps" is the song people would remember but it is far too subdued to represent who the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are on this album.

Some fun bops on here. Gritty but melodic.

Pretty decent. Would give 3.5 but 4 is too high so it gets a 3. Gonna listen to again and see what changes.....and i was wrong. like it more than i realized. 4

I don't know much about rock music artists but I enjoyed this album. Good tracks with some unique arrangements

Yeah yeah yeah

This is pretty solid and for some reason I've overlooked this group. I suspect I might have lumped them in with pop punk acts and thus never paid any attention. But this isn't that. There's a roughness and attitude here that is real punk. A lot of catchy stuff, though no super grabby hooks, just an even keel of hard stuff and I'm good with it.

First song, first sound in and I’m thinking, “Is this what psychedelic sounds like?” Been otherwise preoccupied, so I couldn’t confirm for myself. This album has such a raw energy kinda sound… it’s experimental and raw. All of these sounds turned into music and the listener can’t quite place what’s making them—only that it’s good stuff. The acoustic and synthetic elements compliment each other. I think this album is still the type that’s right up my alley, so I can’t be saying much. It definitely checked out to me that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an early 2000s rock band. Will be playing this album when I’m trynna speedrun a task, for sure. Extra points if that task calls for more right brain activity, e.g. anger painting, scrapbooking, furniture assembly, etc. Oh, you know, just to be fitting. Album cover’s sick too.

I always liked their music, but starting to become a real Fan after ingesting the albums. Super fun and energetic and most importantly, enjoyable!!

I really enjoy the Yeah Yeah Yeahs style and this album was a good listen

I missed their hay day which is unfortunate. They would have been awesome to see live in their prime. Let's go Karen I!

Подруга Дэвида Линча поет под дикую в пору обложке музыку - чего еще желать? Лучшая песня - Y Control.

Not bad, Classic early 2000's indie rock/punk. Honestly not bad.

This album comes in like a whirlwind and goes out the same way, without overstaying its welcome. It’s a mad ride through thirty minutes of tight indie-punk backing and Karen O’s increasingly unhinged sounding vocal, before it suddenly turns into something quite different, and profound and lovely, with Maps. Was it a bit much for a Monday morning? Maybe. But in the best possible way.

Still fun and novel to hear.

> The Beatles

Really great album lags a bit at the end

This was definitely one of the defining albums of the early 2000s garage rock and post-punk revival movement. I remember hearing it for the first time when it came out, and I loved how stripped-down, raw, and gritty it felt, especially with that lo-fi production. The distortion-heavy guitars are abrasive in the best way, bringing out the raw energy that drives the entire album.

If you're into sexy jangles, you're in the right place. I'd heard about half this album over the years on Sirius XMU. Listening to it all at once is a pretty interesting ride. Karen O and her weird sexiness play an elegant front over the weird riffage. I know it's sacrilege, but I've never understood the appeal of "Maps." Unexpected bangers: Cold Light, Tick, No No No

I -love- this album, the first generated by this site which I have a true existing connection to. Probably the second-best record to come out of the NYC post-punk revival scene - Interpol's Turn Off the Bright Lights being the only one better (I exclude LCD Soundsystem from this, just because they're not nearly raw enough even at their most stripped down). Even the throwaways here are great, like Man, which would be a top-tier White Stripes song. Maps is obviously unimpeachable. Rich, Y Control and Modern Romance are also part of my DNA.

Forgot how great this album is. Used to love that song pin!
