Reviews (page 6 of 10)

Yeah thats pretty neat

I liked the songs I had already heard. I liked how raw the band is on others, but the others were a mix of hits and misses. An OK 3.

Super fun album! I like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in general, it was cool to listen to a younger project all the way through. Definitely added some to the playlist but I didn’t expect Karen O moan that much… just barely below a 4

I’m into it! Indie punk rock is very much in my interests. Not all the songs were great, but there were some that I would listen to again. A high 3 in my book. Season: Late Spring Favorite Song: Date With The Night

Not my style.

It was a good listen but nothing really stood out

Honestly a blast of an album. Favorite Songs: Rich, Maps, Y Control. Least Favorite- Tick. I loved the raw, punk style. These songs would go so hard at a garage show. Maps is of course a classic, but feels different from the other songs on the album to me.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were so cool to anyone who was there at the right time. Maps is such a good song, it’s a stick of indie dynamite written to bring an emotional end to any coming of age drama. No one else needs to write one now, they’ve done it. The album in full isn’t wall to wall enjoyment, there’s some duds. But it’s incredibly of it’s time in a great way. The 00’s were good ! 3.5/5.0 Best Song: Maps

What a massive track maps is. This isn't my sort of music, but i can definitely appreciate this album and it is a good example of the genre. I find this sort of 2000s dance/indie/whatever it is a bit tiresome but this is a decent album.

3 - I think I like the concept of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a lot more than I actually like listening to a full album by them. A few songs are really good. Just lots of untapped potential to be something I'd love.

A clear sound and vibe to start with. The songs that really grabbed me were Maps, Y Control

It is a bit up and down for me, there are a couple of really good alternative art punk garage rock tunes, loud and raw full of energy. Then there are a few that just fall flat for me with cheesy lyrics and no real soul. On a lot of the songs I did like I hear a some Sonic Youth and Breeders influence going on which is cool. Not something I am going to run out to buy but I will stream it a few more times.

Not bad, but I liked their 3rd album, It's Blitz!, more. This is a bit more on the Punk side. Still, not bad.

fav songs: date with the night cold light maps poor song raw, garage, nervous 60/100

druga polovica je banger

Some noisy parts on here that tickled me right

Maps with 10x the streams of anything else on Spotify and rightly so. What an immense track that is. All brooding with Karen's dusky mumurings over the top. Let's not pretend that Karen O isn't a lot of the reason for the fandom here, but at least they have the musicals creds to back it up. Not one of my own favourite bands of the era, but I will happily accept the inclusion on the list as they were absolutely inescapable.

If any of these song came on the radio, I wouldn't change the station, but if I was flipping channels and heard them, I wouldn't stop flipping.

It's alright.

Bordering on punk vibes in some songs this was a really fun album to listen through. I appreciated the few songs that were a bit slower and less frantic but the album wasn't bad at all as a whole either.

Most of the fem punk stuff I've heard doesn't really do it for me, but this one at least has a little more personality and flair to it

64/100.

fair noughties indie-punk

This is quite nice to listen to. Nothing really stands out to me, but there’s nothing I particularly dislike either.

pretty mid, one good song. Didnt hat but also won't listen again

Indie/garage rock with a punk bent. Not much special on Rich Not much throughout to blow me away in fact Y Control has a disco-ish drums, track is like an anti-Blondie! Modern Romance is a nice slower number. Best track - any.. say Maps, Y Control 3 stars

A chaotic and fun album that blends some touches of garage, indie and punk rock. The songs from "Rich" to "No No No", both of them included, are all a combination of very lively and eccentric tunes. The guitars can be quite heavy and noisy with a really nice and strong distortion; and they can also be a bit melodic, but they always bring a lot of energy. The vocals are very weird, unusual and very in your face, with Karen O sometimes doing bizarre noises with her voice, which add a lot of personality. In addition, "No No No" has a very noisy, maybe even experimental, second half that separates it from the rest. Unfortunately, I wouldn't say to that it is a good thing, as it doesn't really do anything. I just wanted to point it out. From here, the album takes a more melodic and sentimental shift. After "No No No" comes the biggest cut of the album, "Maps", which got a lot of attraction as a meme in 2024. It is the most memorable song of them all, with the guitar being very melodic and the singer's voice feeling quite vulnerable and sad, specially when compared to all the previous tracks. The songs that follow also do have a similar tone, with "Y Control" just being a bit more energetic and "Modern Romance" being the slowest track of the record, but without being as striking as "Maps". There is also the secret song "Poor Song", which falls in the mellow category, but doesn't really add anything to the whole experience. Overall, a decent, creative and fun album. I can't say it was mind blowing or as explosive as their album "It's Blitz!", but still great experience.

See, this album is hard for me because I liked their album It’s Blitz so much that this one doesn’t measure up to it. However, that album wouldn’t exist unless this one was there for it. It’s a Godfather 1v2 thing. This album is a good foundational album showing the strength and the sounds of this female driven alt rock band. It feels like they’re getting a feel for themselves and moving from garage rock into something bigger. Thinking about it in the context of 2003, I can’t think of any other band that they sounded like, which makes it historical and revolutionary. I liked the song No No No because it felt very punk but I also like this song, Modern Romance, which slowed the album down and made it more personal. I’m not sure how many of their albums need to be on this list but so far Yeah Yeah Yeah.

Random thoughts: * Maps is one of the best songs of this century and I adore it. * I've listened to this album before and while I like the YYYs this never hit like other indie albums of that era. Maybe it is a little too punk for me. * It's not bad it just doesn't have that "je ne sais quoi". * Anyway, happy to see this one on 1001, it's just not a classic of that era beyond the song Maps.

Maps is a classic, the rest is okay

Mostly decent. Middle third lost the way a bit.

It was fine.

Their best album for me.

Meh. 3 stars

Interesting. 3 *

Surprised I missed this one in 2003, surely this was from about 2011? Mostly very average noise with a couple of great tracks.

Going from the opening track to Maps was a crazy journey. I am not a fan of noisy punk rock, so I didn't super enjoy the first half of the album. However, I appreciated the energy behind the vocals and the loud instruments. I wish I liked it more.

They Don't Love You Like I Love You 1001 Albums Generator 206 (1/15/2025) Ah, Rock Band 1. My first introduction to Yeah Yeah Yeahs was playing through Maps on that game, and I always have really liked it, but I've never intentionally listen to anything else by them. Turns out, they are quite a punky little outfit. The opening Rich has a deceptively nice little instrumental at the beginning, but Karen O doesn't hide the facade for long and starts to do this raspy wail (that I honestly really love) before the song explodes with distorted guitars, drums, and heavy bass. This is the album with Maps? Maybe they'll ease themselves into it. Nope! Date With The Night and Man are each more aggressive than the last. Now, unfortunately, I find that Karen O's eccentricities get a little bit tiring for me at times, starting with Tick. Her constant interjections alongside some annoying guitar work make for a bit of an annoying song. However, I really like Pin. It leans a bit more into some melodicism that I was expecting on this album. No No No is the longest song at over 5 minutes, and it is way too long and boring. However, Maps is of course a total classic piece of indie, and Y Control is a fantastic example of the punkier side of this band done at the highest level. Fever To Tell was a hell of an opening statement for Yeah Yeah Yeahs that has more good than bad, but definitely has some aspects I don't love. 3.5/5, rounded down to 3. Favs: Rich Maps Y Control Least Fav: No No No

Rockcito bien de los dos1000. Arriesgado, distinto. Tiene la canción que se hizo viral en tikitoki uwu

It's the early 2000's and there is this quirky girl that is kinda nerdy, but kinda hot. Picture tank top, pixie cut with just the right blend between rebellious and safe and she invites you to a local dive to hear her band play. This is what that sounds like.

Maps is a stand out. The album felt quite chaotic and raw to me which can either be good or bad thing. I wasn't a massive fan of it in this case.

Undeniably good, with one incredible song, "Maps."

Meh. Did not need to hear a 2nd album by these guys (and gal).

Definitely some middle of the road and overall pretty generic Indie Rock/Punk music. That’s for sure. Has all the traits of an album that is just kind of cookie cutter, and was mostly a good listen, but I’m going to forget about it in a few days time. For being the bands debut album, it’s not bad though. Few skips on here, notably the last 2 songs I don’t love listening to on repeat. But the singer has a pretty good voice that never got tiring to listen to besides when she starts singing softly, again only at the very end of the album. When it really wants to, this album can end up rocking pretty hard. The problem with that though is it doesn’t bring anything new or interesting to the table and always comes across as just another generic sound that doesn’t get elevated into anything very special or interesting, a kind of similar sound in which I’ve heard over 100 times already during this project. I get it man, it’s hard to be unique in this genre, especially considering how many of these albums are vying for my attention. Despite that, this still sounded good enough to me to say that despite not being unique, I very much enjoyed my time listening to it. It’s also only 36 minutes long, which is a pretty awesome length, and a bit surprising for a debut album from 2003. I would have expected this to be a lot longer than it actually is. To their credit, I have heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before. If my memory serves me correctly, “Maps” was one of the first songs on the original set list for the game Rock Band 1, which also happens to be on this album. “Heads Will Roll”, of which I’ve only ever heard the remix of, is also very good, but is not on this album unfortunately. A few tracks stood out to me here, my favorite of the bunch this time being “Black Tongue”, but “Rich” was also a really good opener as well. I actually how bitchy and vitriolic “Black Tongue” comes off as, it really gave me kind of a chuckle. Yes, it was very Punk, but also kind of funny as well, if that makes sense. I don’t know if that was the intent, but regardless I enjoyed it a lot. This is the first of 2 Yeah Yeah Yeahs albums I have rolled for this project, and I’m very interested to see how they progressed over time. Would I return to this? Actually, yeah. I think I would. Yeah Yeah Yeah I would. Terrible joke, I know. I had to do it.

Feel dumb saying this but I didn’t know they sang the tik tok trendy song hahah but another solid punk emo band - enjoyed just not something I would actively choose

conhecia uma música, maps

I was never a huge fan but the album did pick up on the back

Ta bueno. Entretenido, y rabioso album. 6/10

I don't have a review for this one. It played while I was busy at work, and I don't have any thoughts about it other than it wasn't terrible and I didn't feel like listening to it a second time. I guess that makes this a 3.

Fun album. I enjoy their stuff a bunch, although I think their melodies and song construction improve later in their career, this is a good harbinger of what's to come. Solid album.

Pretty cool alt punk. The strong female lead reminds me of LeTigre or the Pretenders before them. Cool stuff.

Nothing wrong with it, indie chart fare.

I want to like it but it’s a little too annoying

I didn’t realize this is where the “wait they don’t love you like I love you” meme was from I really like the lead vocalists voice she has such personality and emotion behind it

I've no idea if this is the album that has that one song by this band that I know. You know the one, where the singer is facing the camera and doing that thing with her face? Yeah. Yeah yeah, that one. I didn't like that thing, or the video, or the song. As such, I assumed I wouldn't like the band and went on about my day/life. I got a vibe from that song... that pretentious New York vibe. An air of superiority, while being overtly shit. Are they from New York? Fuck knows. But I'm giving this album a go now, 20 years later. Turns out this is the album that has that song. It also has a couple of other songs I remember, so clearly I'd heard a lot of this back then. It doesn't irritate me as much now as it did then. The effect on the vocals does annoy me, like she's singing through static. Her voice is very shrill too. But she makes a lot of sex noises, which is always nice. It's all very noisy, so I can see why people enjoy it. It's not my sort of noise though. The playing is too stilted and basic. Like a lot of the bands of that era, it's all cling cling cling, same note over and over again, then next note, cling cling cling over again, repeat. There were a lot of more inventive, more powerful, more exciting bands at the time but they got buried because, well, they didn't make sex noises or because the radio chose not to push them. These guys were in your face all the time. So, it's fine. Good even. Too basic and cliquey and up its own arse for my tastes. But sex noises. I'm away for a wank.

Starts with a bang, ends with a whimper. Overall a pretty solid debut.

An explosive opener with date with the night. In 2003, as a first introduction to the band, really sets the tone. I remember the year this was released, MTV did an online contest where you had to draft artists as a record producer in a fantasy football-style contest. The higher your artist charted IRL, the more points you got. Foolishly picked the yeah yeahs as my number one because it was one of the few indie or rock artists that was new and doing something that sounded so good. Obviously, they had staying power but let's just say I did not win the contest. My favorite Karen O is when she is shrieking/barking. Stylistically, though, it's not my favorite sound sustained through an album, this has highs and lows for me. Obviously maps is going to show up on best of lists all the time.

# Playlist Track - Rich # Notes - Angry-energetic-cool, most of the time. Doesn't fare too well on the slower songs and the tail end. - Great intro to punk for teenagers, tho.

A little all over the place but a solid album nonetheless. I think another song or two would push it to a 4, but I don't think it is justified at where it stands now.

I'd always dimissed this band in the past, for no real reason. Probably shouldn't have. I'm familiar with the singles, but the deepcuts are strong and overall this os a decent alt rock offering from the noughties. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit  ✅️ Decent★★★☆☆ (6/10)

Some classics here like Maps but the first half was really not that good, second half was very solid though

begint zeer goed, daarna begint stem wat tegen te steken... ook verkalmt de plaat wat op het eind... het was beter andersom geweest...

Maps really is that good of a song. The rest doesn’t seem as full though. Decent powerpop.

It's good, but I can't help but thinking I'm missing something important in it to really make it hit.

It was ok. Few good songs

Pretty decent, I much prefer It's Blitz though

The song Maps is my favorite track of theirs. The rest of the album is high energy punkish sound. I like it for the most part. I bet if I heard the other songs as much as Maps, I would like them too. The quieter songs like Poor Song I think I liked more than the high energy, but it is the morning right now, so it could just be that.

Getting this sometime after "It's Blitz!" is a tad awkward. It's very raw, which is to be expected for a band's debut album in most cases. Yeah Yeah Yeahs were fully garage rock/post-punk when they broke into the scene and you certainly hear that here. Karen O has always been a firecracker as a vocalist, and this is probably the best example of that. The big single that everybody knows ("Maps") almost feels out of place here if I'm being honest. Would've been more fitting on their later works I think. The band matures their sound later in "It's Blitz!" and that is definitely my preferred album of theirs. Interesting to hear how the group got their commercial start here at least.

Some great moments but missing something I can't quite put my finger on 3.5*

If you don't like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs then we are going to have quite a bit of a problem because they were truly putting in their hearts and souls along with other acts like The Strokes, Interpol, and The White Stripes to bring back Garage Rock in full swing. This project may be extremely noisy and energetic as hell and I can totally understand why some of y'all don't get it, but man does this shit feel so good!! Also how are y'all going to rate Is This It? as one of the highest rated albums of all time but not give this album its' same deserved flowers? Yes I can totally get behind someone saying almost all of the good tracks are pumped out in the very beginning and then Maps being the real standout of this album, but even the weaker songs on the B-side like No No No and Poor Song still have a lot to offer about Yeah Yeah Yeahs more tame and intimate sides. I will gladly endorse Maps as being one of the best songs of the 2000s and still holds up beautifully to this day, also am so happy it got a bunch of love recently on Social Media because it is that stellar and worthy of love. At the end of the day this is a debut album from a band with a lot more to offer down the road, but for their very simplistic start I have to say I am pretty satisfied with everything they offered here. Nuff said!

Pretty good indie/garage punk. Really dig the lead singer's sound. Not good enough for a 4, but a high-end 3/5 for me.

I dig the intensity of the playing and overall vibe here, but is not totally on board with the singer. 3.5 stars

299/1089 - It's like a fusion of Patti Smith (good) and The Strokes (bad) which makes for some interesting ideas and vocals and uninteresting song forms. The album started off strong but ended really weak.

Didn't feel much either way on this one

Not bad but a bit too rowdy for me

Easy listening but it didn't really do much for it.

A pretty good rock album, one of the most original of the early-2000s garage rock boom. I do think the album is lacking in guts, for lack of a better word. Only a few songs have real bite to them, and except for Maps (which I don’t like as much as most do anyway), the slower artier songs are uniformly the weaker ones. Best song: Date with the Night

Alright, no song stands out.

Ein bisschen Punk

Such a fun album!

J’ai essayé de l’écouter en lisant, ce n’était pas l’idée de l’année!

pretty good 3.25/5

So so rock flitting between heavier and lighter notes. It never really seemed to kick up a gear, unlike “It’s Blitz!” and there weren’t really any standout songs, but it was fine.

A band I seem to like in isolation with certain stronger songs but never dived completely in. Its decent and innovative sound with a screech that only she could deliver in a refined way. Kind of sums up the band as a bit of a contradiction. They are raw yet delivered with a certain clinical polish and precision. Sometimes too metronomic. "Man" I liked in some ways more vs the more formulaic "Y Control" but then "Tick" and "Black Tongue" let the vocals stretch more but then can be like a jack hammer so can get wearing to some extent. I struggle to review this as I do like elements of it but for me it deserves a low 4 or high 3...Probably!

This album seems to hover somewhere between great and weak rock music. It starts off heavy but by 'Man' I was less convinced that I was listening to something authentic, more like a facsimile of a heavy rock band that wasn't quite selling it. Her voice is great and musically it's all fine but it doesn't ever really pop off. The exception to this is 'Maps' which feels fully formed, original, and jumps out as an exceptional track. They are generally at their best when occupying the softer end of the indie/rock spectrum. For the most part I felt like I was listening to a good support act which might be an indication that they hadn't yet quite found their sound with this album.

Punk w designerskich ciuszkach, performatywnie edgy, ale fun listen. 3

Fun rock

Not my thing

I was familiar with Maps, but that’s about it. Overall enjoyed the sound of this band and the album.

It’s okay. The vocalist has great range, just could do without the pterodactyl noises. The album starts off a bit lame, but I like the second half. I actually had this record when it dropped and remember really liking Y Control for some reason.

I can appreciate the array of guitar/electronic sound effects and accenting throughout the album. I see myself enjoying this experience more if I was playing Skate and it come on as I was yeeting myself of of building and doing endless kickflips into the sun. It also reminds me of ITunes advertisement music at times. I did not know this band made the “Wait✋, they don’t love you like I love you🕺.” That was probably my favorite song on the project. Aside from those notes. It doesn’t do much for me, nor do the eccentric hooting and hollering done on some of the tracks. Three Groaning Oofs🗣️/5

I think this album was pretty solid, but nothing special. The last two songs were a massive tonal shift and feel like they represent some early murmurings of the alt downtrodden sad music that would become more mainstream in the mid 2000s.

Good album! But to my ears this 2000s indie rock sound is so tired by this point its hard to make an argument that this album really pushes boundaries or anything. I think Karen O is an overall good vocalist but I still feel like theres something holding me back from fully enjoying this album. I don't know, I think in order to really get into this I just had to be there at the time

Ah, the critical indie darlings who never took over the world. Was a little hard to be unbiased given how hard it feels they were pushed out in front to eb the next big thing. Unlikely to be their fault though. Not too. bad but got a little long by the end. Also, maps isn't even close to the best song on this album.

Amazing album art, but two great songs does not a great album make.

Dont recognize many songs but enjoyed listening to the album.

Not bad!

I feel like the band had to pull their punches on this album. But it’s still fun. Karen O’s voice takes me back!

Just about enough to squeak into a 3

I liked it. Didn't love it. Not sure what else to say. 3 stars.

Me really liking this album: yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Me not really liking this album: yeah, yeah, yeah… Me trying to remember if I made this same joke last time: 🤔 Me if I wanted to be funny: (wouldn’t make this joke in the first place)

jeez i think think this album starts out insanely bad lol but finishes really strong and Maps is really like one of the best songs of the 2000s... pretty nostalgic listen and a nice testament to how my tastes have changed since i was an early teen

Early 2000's Pop Rock. OK. 3/5

nice listening to something with a female vocalist for once given most of the bands I like are mostly guys, and she has a great voice! it's interesting also having music without a bassline, it's kind of jarring but the songs are still great, especially maps which will be a song I revisit a lot more

Karen O is such a treasure of a front woman. Im

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were always an MTV sort of band to me. Kind of liked the singles but never really went any further than that, perhaps I would have if I had a friend who liked them. This sort of album is entirely what these challenges are about for me, it’s the sort of album I should have listened to at the time and this is the chance to put that right. I had a perfectly good time here, warm fuzzy guitars seem to be the dominant sound. It’s a solid album but one I should probably find time to revisit at some stage.

There are some good songs on this. I cannot fathom any scenario that ones musical journey of discovery dictates this NEEDS to be heard before death.

Keywords: Karen LOL TRUE It was good actually. The first 3? songs were really nice, Maps is great

WAIT, THEY DONT LOVE YOU LIKE I LOVE YOU

Very rock rocky, but a little too hippie for me.

I feel like I should like this a hell of a lot more than I do. Some decent moments, but not nearly my favorite garage rock from 2003. 3.5/5

когда спотифай мне отдельные треки ставил было приятнее. всё скопом тяжело, хочется мелодичнее

A for effort, I guess. 3/5

The vocals aren’t totally my vibe but I really enjoyed the energy of the faster songs. My favorite tracks were probably Modern Romance and Poor Song. I’m saving this album to come back to later because I think it’s one that’ll grow on me. Also saving for when I need road trip music

Didn't know there is still music like this in 2000s

Lots of drum work and screaming female vocalist. Not enough good guitar work to keep me interested. The songwriting feels repetitive and derivative. There's just not enough to keep me engaged. The styling is good. My Rating: 3/5

A good album, Maps is stunning, a genre definer. Three for that song.

A bit coarse for me

419/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Music is good, songwriting is good, Karen O's voice is good. It definitely grew on me more as I listened. Maps is probably the best known song from this album, or at least it's the one I know, but there are several others I like better. I wanted to like this more, but I still liked it quite a bit.

Quite hectic and not really my thing, but they are giving it a good shot.

Not a bad album, just didn't really get with it. Maps was by far the best song. The singer sounds really nice though.

Another hell of a debut album. Its short but its loud and fun and it will blow your ass off. I like Karen O's style and shes much easier to listen to than singers from a lot of these punk and punk-esque bands. The songs are diverse sounding and interesting. A lot of the songs are not repetitive - they're not really long enough for that - but they contain repetition in the lyrics that kind of ground my gears. Some of the guitar riffs are short but grating too. The album starts strong and ends strong, which is nice. I really liked "Black Tongue" "Maps" - a classic - "Y Control" and "Modern Romance." This is a cool album where the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are definitely finding themselves (yeah yeah yeah its a debut, soooo, duh). It's a really good starting point, but there's nothing on here that pulls this album up off an average 3/5 rating for me. There are some good jams to rock out to though!

i really wanted to like this album more than i did. I will say it got better as it went on, and it definitely had its own sound to it. The production was super cool and I like Karen O, but it just did not grab me as I wanted it to.

Had more promise than it delivered on… I’ll give it a 3 cuz the hits are p insane. I love her voice and feel like she could use it better on a different album.

3.5 - great punk rock album. Loved the energy

Meh. This was a low 3. It wasn't bad but there was nothing about it that excited me.

Felt girlboss in a good way

Catchy with some solid tunes

Really enjoyed a couple of tracks - Maps and Y Control obviously. Otherwise, her singing style is a bit irritating.

First impression pre listen: This is the second Yeah(x3) album I've gotten on this list so far. I remember liking the vocals quite a bit on it, but feeling like the album was a bit undercooked, plagued with production choices I personally didn't like. It had its moments, but I never returned to it. So I don't have the greatest expectations for this one, however I'm looking forward to "Maps" as that song is amazing. I hope it's easy to get through at least. Individual track notes: Rich I like the vocals a lot. The instrumental sounds kinda compressed. I think the more punk inspired driving guitars suits their energy really well. Not the biggest fan of the synth. Fine. 3/5 Date With The Night Nothing here really sticks out to me. I do like how much effort and energy is put into the vocal performance, it's far from boring at least. Good energy. Fine. 3/5 Man Kinda generic for a rock song of the era. The verse structure is extremely repetitive. The lo-fi proudction makes it feel a bit colourless. Average. 2.5/5 Tick Feels youthful and raw. It's fun and unserious, but a bit aimless and confusing. Fine. 3/5 Black Tongue There are vocal moments here that are genuinely unpleasant. Don't love the guitar either. Juvenile and unlikeable. Got a bit of a snarky "better than you" attitude to it that doesn't feel genuine or believable. Strongly dislike. 1.5/5 Pin I like the guitar riff. Really like the buildup, makes the chorus much more impactful. The softer edge to the verses serves this song a lot of good. Feels resonant and real. Good. 4/5 Cold Lights Hate the lyrics on this one. The instrumental feels very disjointed, and has moments where they feel disconnected from the vocals. The recording quality is messy. Sounds like a demo. Awful. 1/5 No No No The longer instrumental section using basically just rhythmic elements alongside some faint ambience just sort of fails to be interesting. The chorus is decently performed and there are some okay guitar passages, but it's otherwise unremarkable. Average. 2.5/5 Maps I suspect this is the highlight of the album. The buildup is just fantastic with that thrilling guitar line and the impactful drums. Love the vocals, and the way the guitar compliments them on the chorus. Really catchy lyrics. Love how understated the vocals are compared to the rest of the album. Fantastic solo. The repetiveness actually does the song a lot of favours, keeps it memorable. Fantastic. 5/5 Y Control Opens with a really catchy and atmospheric passage. I like the verse melody a lot. I like the bass on the chorus. The noisy, squealy guitar contrasts well against it. Structurally a bit too repetitive. Great ending. Decent. 3.5/5 Modern Romance I like the slower tempo. The guitar is a bit too reverby, makes it unpleasant as it keeps repeating. Mixed weirdly. I like the lyrics. Dislike. 2/5 Poor Song I really think that they chose to end this album on a low-key affair is a pretty decent choice. Callback to previous lyrics. I like the vocal performance here a lot. Decent. 3.5/5 Final Review: The rawness and the lack of production tricks is both the best and worst part of the album. On one hand it makes it sound original and true to its roots, on the other hand there are moments where it just makes it sound awful. It's at the same time both charming and frustrating. The album also suffers on the songwriting front where a lot of it just sounds hastily cobbled together. This again is both charming and frustrating, as many of the stellar performances on here are wasted on less than interesting songs. But the carefree, unfiltered approach does fit the band's attitude a lot, where many of the album's best qualities come from its many spontaneous sounding moments. It has great energy, and I actually think they've structured the album really well as the track listing is well paced to keep the listener invested. Karen O delivers very distinct and varied vocal performances full of personality. She's unpredictable, but that's what makes the songs. I do think while the instrumentation fits with her vocals, they do tend to go overboard with some of their more experimental elements Which while producing some moments of genius, also takes the tracks down some sonic dead ends, killing the energy or leaving the listener bored and confused. It's a solid effort for a debut, but doesn't do enough to denote it as anything, but what it is: just fine. 3/5

Okay I guess

Wenig griffiges aber solides Werk ohne Highlights.

This record feels like a mix of punk rock and pop. It’s pretty good, but I don’t know if I’d come back to a lot of the tracks. But it’s cool!

There’s so much to like about this album and at the time of its release it was so different to everything else. On listening back now it feels a little contrived and also pretty much the same throughout. A couple of great stand out tracks.

This album could have easily been on need for speed underground and it would have integrated very well. I liked it.

I didn't enjoy this album nearly as much as the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I got. The music is good here (although not exactly memorable), but a few of the vocals irritated me a fair bit. I don't know if it was due to my mood the day I listened to it, but I found the vocalist's screams and squeals excessive and annoying. When she did actually sing though it was quite good! This showcased a lot more in the second half of the album, which was a stark contrast from the mania that was the first half. The first half was a 2, and the second half was a solid 3.5, so I'll round it to a 3 rating.

This album is like when your mum took you clothes shopping and let you choose your own shoes for the first time. You immediately wanted big bright Osiris skate shoes which was a huge step away from the old sneakers that mum used to get you. But she doesn't even understand, this is your new personality and you are proud to express yourself

Maps and some other songs that are ok but not as good as Maps. 3.3/5

The first half was not my thing at all. Very messy and loud, but the songs didn’t seem to have any ideas in them, it just felt like they were making it up as they went along. The second half, however, has songs with more structure and more interesting ideas, with a more mellow tone. These I really enjoyed. Overall the albums a little too inconsistent for me to listen to the full thing again, but that last half is too good for me to completely write it off.

Such a fun band. Redefining rock and making upbeat, engaging, unique music. The band and vocals mesh so well together and the chemistry is fantastic. Great record to get energized to.

Fun album. I dug it.

A high 3, the second half of the album really picks up

I liked the album. Simple and effective with a distinctive personality. They don't have the songs that the Strokes have but it's better than the average White Stripes album. The voice is Great. Last 2 tracks out of character with the rest but equally good. A Strong 3, almost a 4.

Its a high 3 for me, Maps nearly made it a 4 but the glam stomp it has throughout is not quite my thing - love the poppier and dancier tracks which makes sense as Its Blitz! is a 4 for me

Maps is a classic. The rest is fine.

Ok, but I liked their later album better.

All I knew of them was maps and the wolf song, this was a surprise for sure compared to those. The early 2000's punk sound was not expected. It was fine, I just wouldn't seek it out again.

Bouncy and loud. Not a bad thing. A few good tunes thrown in there too. However, this felt longer than it actually is, as it all starts to sound a bit the same after a while.

I kind of liked this. It was pretty upbeat and fun.

Interesting album, a past favorite of mine for no reason other than it was different. Maps and Y Control are classics. But I don’t think it’s cohesive enough for four stars and it fails to get the fifth too as a result.

Would be five stars if every song was Maps

Fun album. Y control and Maps are all time favourites

Thoughts before listening: Is this the 2nd Yeah Yeah Yeahs album on here? Not sure they deserve 2 albums but whatever. The first one I got was pretty good and I know this has "Maps" on it which is a banger. I'm glad to revisit this album. Review: This is fine, with "Maps" and "Y Control's being the best songs. The rest of the album feels like a mixture of multiple 00s era indie rock sounds, albeit with a great yelpy vocalist in Karen O. Some of this reminds me of the White Stripes and garage punk, other songs have a Interpol kind of drive to the songs, while there is definitely a Strokes style sloppy aloofness in the mix as well. 3-stars

Their debut album features some nice foot-tapping alt-rock. Has it been 22 years since this came out?!?! This is my first listen to the whole record. It started nice with, "Rich"... I am not going to add the album to my library, but a few, like, "Maps" and "Y Control"!!!

better than expected

decent record, songs just sounded similar but had some good tracks

A couple of great tracks, Maps and Y Control are the standouts. I don't love this style of garage rock, but I can see the influence for sure. 5/10

3.5 really could i write poetry to this? y

Solid effort, though definitely a bit backloaded.

Pretty good music! Some of the earlier tracks were a bit on the weirder side, but the album really picked up after Tick. I especially enjoyed the singer's voice, I'd be interested in exploring some of their other material in the future. Standouts: Black Tongue, Maps, Y Control

FAVO: Pin, Maps

Always wanted to be into this band more than I actually am but I’ve always just felt like there was something missing, which is a bit of shame. I think it’s the bass, or lack thereof, that leaves some of the songs sounding a little bit 2D - like treble-y, thrashy noise with no actual grit or body to it. Maps is a phenomenal piece of music though, but I just don’t feel like there’s enough on the rest of the album to keep me interested. Warrants it’s place on the list as I get the importance of the female band lead in a male dominated scene yada yada, and I love what Karen O has gone onto to do since but just don’t think this album warrants more than a 3, and that’s me being pretty generous. I’ll maybe come back and try again. 3/5 Standout tracks: Maps (obviously) Modern Romance

Oh hey it's the Head Will Roll band! What are you guys doing here? I did not expect them to rock out like this. Ok I liked Rich. Vocals are great, instrumentals are well mixed, not too loud even if still aggressive. Not as impressed with the second track. Ok so they're going for some punk too, that's nice. Judging by the track lengths for the next few songs I'd say they're going for that punk sound for a while. Tick is cool. Kinda didn't like Black Tongue. Pin was better but not that impressive. What were those lyrics on Cold Night about doing it to each other and being like a sister and a brother? What? Ignoring that, No No No is fine but, despite the performances, doesn't excite me at all. And it definitely overstays its welcome by about 3 minutes. Maps is the big hit of the album, one of the two big hits of the band. Did not expect that. I don't know how to feel about this one. Not at all what I thought it was going to be, but the surprise isn't all that positive in this case. Not in love with Y Control either. Modern Romance I actually kinda like. It's a nice unexpected shift from everything else. Yey! But a sad yey. Poor Song is another interesting case. They sabed the slower, sadder songs for the end. I may like this more than some other cuts. It stands out in the midst of all these punk ragers. Yeah, it's nice. Overall, I was not too impressed with this one. I've heard better punk albums, better rock albums, better indie albums. Nothing in here blew me away. Maybe I should give Maps another shot. But yeah, not that impressed. I am undecided on the rating, as 2 seems too low, since I don't find the album to be bad, and 3 seems too high, especially considering what other albums I've given a 3 to. Oh well, I'll think about it some more.

Another solid album, though it falls short of being truly great. I really enjoy the vocals, but I wish there were more tracks with edge. This album sounds produced more for commercial viability than artistic substance.

it had some good and fun tunes. nothing extraordinary or super flashing moments. pretty solid (2.5/5.0)

Pretty average 00s rock.

Not my type but not bad either.

Seminal indie sleaze. Loved this shit when I was 20. Preferred some other bands of the genre, but respect this release. Maps is an all-timer. 3.5/5

point5.

Great vocals but besides one or two tracks (Maps in particular) I found nothing notable or interesting about this album.

The sound checks a lot of boxes for me, I love the energy and would describe it as “garage pop.” However, I did grow weary of the subject matter. I would describe that as “aggressive sensuality,” and while that might sound awesome to some… I wasn’t that interested in being told about the fever, or being a bystander to the toxicity. I very much enjoyed the YYY’s other album on this list, 2009’s “It’s Blitz.” I think by that time their sound and subject matter had both expanded. I’ll return to that one again.

This one hurts. It sounded great at the outset, and I really liked their next album. This album suffers from not really having much good to say. As a result, the latter part of the album kind of feels like they are a one trick pony, where the trick isn't so compelling. I think they got some things figured out by 2009, but I just couldn't keep up my interest in this one.

++: Date with the Night, Black Tongue +: Rich, Man, Tick, Maps, Y Control, Modern Romance +-: Pin, Cold Light, No No No 6,0/10

This album is a bit of a ride- it's different at the back than it is at the front. I'm not surprised that Maps became the wider known hit because it's the song that is the most radio ready and least thorny. My personal preference is the lighter, singer-songwritery side of the album. I'm glad to have said I finally listened to this entire album though I'm not sure I'll be spinning anything but Maps on the regular.

Didn’t really like “Rich” through “No No No”. “Pin” isn’t so bad. “Maps” is great. I liked “Y Control” through “Poor Song”. 3.5 Stars

Kills-much?

One stunning song (Maps) and two great songs (Pin and Date With The Night) does not a great album make

I prefer the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I listened to. But there’s are two or three standouts on this album that I really enjoyed. The others are pretty forgettable. 3/5

This was fine. A couple very good songs and the rest good.

6/10…dance punk / indie rock

not bad, fun songs

Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. I also didn’t really notice the lack of bass, I think because they mixed in the synth? Need to spend more time investigating 2000’s NY rock. The attitude landed for me, whereas for bands like this if it doesn’t it can result in the worst shit imaginable. Will be checking out more YYY’s.

Cool album - very White Stripes or Strokes, just a great era of music. Maps and Y Control are obviously the heavy standouts, but Rich and Pin are nice as lead ups to the better back half. Somewhere between 3/4 overall - not quite as catchy as the rest of the garage rock revival groups.

So screamy, but it gets better by the end

Okay maps

I liked it, but not enough to merit another star

It’s good, but it grinds after a while. Also, not even the best Yeah Yeah Yeahs album. That would be “Its’s Blitz!”

I'm not the BIGGEST fan of the full album, but it gets at least three stars for Maps alone. That's the best song ever made.

This is one of those albums I have a very difficult time figuring out if I liked it or not. I feel my score on this site can’t really reflect how I felt after hearing this one. I don’t mind my fair share of noisy music. Hell, my favorite genres is hard rock and metal, so a little noise never hurt me (at least not in my current stage of life; god know what might happen to my ears as I go on). However, I was never really a fan of this type of noise; blown out vocals with a shit ton of drumming like you’re pretending to be the White Stripes and this is your Seven Nation Army. It’s a weird type of indie noise that I never really liked. Now, I do enjoy the production here. Karen O has a nice energy to her vocals and the band plays well along with her, especially the guitar. But, I couldn’t really click with this one. It wasn’t near towards the end of the album, starting with Maps that I begin to enjoy it. It’s weird on an album like this to enjoy the slower songs, but those ended up being my favorites. In the end, this feels like a 3.5 album out of me. I would round that up to a 4, but that feels too high. If only I could rate half stars. Oh well. Favorite track: Maps Other hits: Modern Romance, Y Control, Poor Song, Tick, Pin

it's pretty clear that maps is the standout here, but even outside of that, you could do a lot worse - even if you could also do a good bit better.

I’d never heard of this band. Some of the album was a 4 - intriguing, refreshing, vocals reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde - but other tracks were a 2 - discordant and random. I’d like to go back to it later though.

this was really interesting i expected to like this a LOT more than i did 😭 i didn’t hate it or anything but it was definitely. i don’t know it gave me the feeling of listening to a pixies album it’s like man i really like this one song and every other song on the album kind of sounds like that but not even really so hm i mean it was good, i wasn’t crazy about it tbh and probably won’t revisit much other than maps

Pretty kick ass debut from the Yx3. Came out hard and fast and steadily maintained the mood (until the last 2 tracks which could be dropped with no complaint from me). Not really any bad songs throughout but was a bit of disjointed noise at times. Top track "Y Control" with "Rich" & "Maps" close behind. I did also get a kick out of the hick themed "Cold Light" (complete with southern drawl and incest). I was introduced to this band at a Weenie-Roast fest over a decade ago and was impressed. Have since been a fan of Karen O. If you are a Yx3 purest, this would be your album but I think they get better. "Fever to Tell" gets 3.38 stars.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a little polarizing for me, primarily because of Karen O. At times she is a fun icon of modern female rock and roll. Other times she toes the line of approaching Yoko One obnoxious BS. Luckily it is the former the vast majority of the time as opposed to the latter, much in the way that a lot of Yeah Yeah Yeahs music is a fun new take on rock music. When it works (Maps, Y Control) its pretty damn good. When it doesn't work I'm close to turning it off and leaving (Modern Romance). Fever To Tell has more than enough good stuff to make up for any misses but not sure I can say the same for the rest of their collection. A solid entry that I have no qualms including on the list. 2.74 stars

reaally like her voice but some sort of spice is missing also cannot take ‘maps’ seriously bc of fuckass tiktok

I like the punk vibe.

Not good. I give slight bumps in ratings if the album is shorter. The brevity keeps it from being a 1.

Didn’t really like “Rich” through “No No No”. “Pin” isn’t so bad. “Maps” is great. I liked “Y Control” through “Poor Song”. 3.5 Stars

I wish I heard this when I was 15 I would've loved it. There's 4 great songs and the rest are very noughties punk.

Not exactly my cup of tea on first listen but I really like Maps, Y Control, and Poor Song. Very interesting sound for a first album though.

mejor de lo esperado pero lejos de ser imperdible

The second Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I've reviewed on this generator (the first being It's Blitz!). This album is worse than that one. Sounds like Queens of the Stone Age with a female singer...that indie rock/garage rock sound. Favourite songs: Date With the Night, Maps Least favourite songs: Man, Tick, No No No, Poor Song 3/5

Bouncy little rocker. Kept me interested

White Girl Wednesday...a lot more fun than i expected. Karen O is a boss

Some nice tracks on here

first half has some interesting melodic ideas that don’t come together to form anything satisfying. second half mellows out a lot and becomes a lot better. solid overall

This was ok, Maps seems to have some current TikTok:reels fame, but I hadn’t heard the rest. Gold Lion is a great track ( by this band but not on this album) that I have fond memories of!

Maps is one of the greatest songs of all time. Full stop. Definitely more lukewarm on the record as a whole, but there’s good stuff. And quite the album cover, huh?

Rock, punk skateboarding graffiti - Maps is standout track - Guitars and drums are nice - Vocals are interesting, slightly muffled feel

I knew the name, but missed them when they came out. Not too bad

Second half of the album was good -- especially "Maps," of course -- but I felt a little bludgeoned by the beginning.

More entertaining than Super Bowl LIX

They don’t love me like I love you.

Only had heard Maps before. Really enjoyed the rest of the stuff as it's weirder than Maps

I know 2 songs by this band, "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll", neither of which are on this album. I'm looking forward to delving into more with this album. This was more raw and punkish indie sound than I was expecting. There's some interesting moments, but a lot of meh as well. It's an ok album, but nothing I would rave about.

It’s good when in the mood for it. ‘Maps’ of course is the standout.

There's a song on here that's in my "Liked" list, and most of this is good listening - could use a bit more variety and change of pace. Mostly good listening.

The album was better in the second half. Enjoyable but not great.

It's okay, but it's "heavy but flat", like the Foo Fighters or some White Stripes. I don't love it. I do like Maps and Y Control.

It's ok, quite fun at places, but most of it blends together and is difficult to tell apart. Plus for a female rock vocalist and creative playing on hi hats. I must admit though that at times it felt like a bunch of spoiled rich kids cosplaying as edgy punks. I don't know if there's any truth to that, that's just my impression. I liked Pins, Maps (the only track I knew beforehand) and Y Control, which is also the best on the album. 3/5

Not bad, and not appealing enough to seek out more.

A bit disappointing for me, this one. I was thinking I’d like it more than I did. The highs are high, but the “mehs” are more. The cuts I like were slamming, but there just wasn’t enough of them for me. But when the songs hit they hit hard (the drums are amazing). My favorite tracks were “Tick”, “Black Tongue”, “Pin”, “Y Control” and “Modern Romance”. I give it a three out of five stars.

Lyder lidt ligesom jinx eller sådan noget. Kendt for early 2000 indie rock. Blender art-punk, garage rock. Anset for at være potentiel album of the decade. Fast dirty og exilirating.

This is almost very good - but it’s so stressful. Overall the music is pretty great. Her voice is actually also pretty cool. It’s just the mannerism, rhythm and repeating in her singing that stresses me out in many of the songs. Cold Light, No No No and Y Control are my favourites on here

Like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but prefer their later material, rather than this. A little too rough and sketchy for me here

ого, я слышал эту тему в тик токе

Will listen more, prob higher rating but didn't marinate

Interesting indie pop that can almost, but doesn't quite, hold the attention.

Velvet underground vibes

I expected to dislike this one, since I remember hating their other album way back when I got it. But I actually somewhat enjoyed this. Very energetic. I think I give fewer 1s and 5s and more ratings in the middle, compared to when I started this challenge. Maybe I would've disliked this one more if I'd gotten it a couple years ago.

It's really nice currently, it feels like an album that you can put in the background and do work. It's fun and it's something new :)

J’aime beaucoup la guturalité d’la basse et de la guit, mais tsé, c’est pas assez pour que je retourne l’écouter

I'm not normally a *huge* Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan, although they have a few pretty good songs. However, this album wasn't as bad as I was fearing. I'm not sure I'd seek it out of its own accord, but it didn't grate any nerves like a lot of albums on here (looking at you David Bowie...).

stan is banger

Ganske bra, litt mykje computer-rock

Ok Ok Ok.

It's niceeeee

Some good songs, decent album.

I've listened to Fever To Tell a lot more, bit this too is familiar album. At one point I really liked garage rock sound, however I like the dirtier version of the style like that of MC5 or later The Hives and Thee Oh Sees. This is in the same vein as White Stripes, but lots more pop and a lot less explorative. It's a fine rock album, but lacks in rough edges. Basically, to me, it's modern pop music I can actually listen to.

I went back and forth while listening to this one, from hating the lead singer's voice, to appreciating the guitar work, to rolling my eyes at the lyrics, to then really liking the songs on the back half.

Female fronted brit indie rock, pretty standard but pretty enjoyable still.

I enjoyed it, but don't see myself listening to it often. It sort of leaned on the side of indie pop that I don't gravitate to.

Surprisingly good angular garage punk with a pop edge that doesn't get in the way of the songs. B

For me, "Maps" alone saves this album from a 2. Most of the album is pretty good, some songs are just okay, and the entire album is "serviceable," but "Maps" is, I think, an incredible song. Overall, though, this album and band suffers from a lot of the same stuff that many millennial indie bands suffer from, which is just being too edgeless most of the time.

Coming to this after listening to Its a Blitz - and unfortunately Fever to Tells suffers by comparison as its a bit more generic garage without the synths of the later album. Its a good listen and I like Maps alot. Solid 3.

It's ok, probably not as good as It's Blitz!

Too angry for me. I didn't remember AT ALL that Maps it's the same song used on Tik Toks at the moment.

Best Song: Maps. Yeah it's the mega-hit, but in this case there's a good reason. Something about her vocal delivery in this song just feels ethereal. Worst Song: No No No. I think the rest of the album really didn't need this prog-rock excursion. Overall: Genuinely quite fun, up-tempo rock music. Reminded me (in a good way) of the Strokes, but minus the brooding. That said, it isn't altogether that memorable (aside from Maps, which has a sort of transcendental quality).

How much of a classic is 'Maps'?! Enjoyed the rest of the album as well

I want to like this but I just find their sound too grating too often to really enjoy it. I used to crush “Maps” on rock band back in the day though. 2.6

I was surprised to recognize a song from this album. In general ite solid.

For as much as I love The Killers and The Strokes...I'm weirdly not as jazzed about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They're fine...but only 3 star fine for me.

I like their music, but this album really didn’t do it for me

Clearly an important player in the 00s indie revival, but I think this album is a tad overpraised. Beyond the four singles, which are all strong tunes, the rest is a bit 'eh'. I do like the overall sound though, and won't deny them their hard-earned cool points.

Fun, grimy, dancey, disc 1 great, disc 2 meh

Will have to revisit but I liked this. Maps is definitely the best track here like everyone and their mother points out but the other songs are decent too.

Nice punk album

Pretty raw recording, for better or worse...

Early 2K's IndiePunk was something. When it was good it was really freakin good. When it wasn't - it so wasn't. Luckily the Yeah Yeah Yeahs nailed it and delivered a fantastic album representative of what the indie alt sound should be. 3.5/5

Last Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I said I was rounding down from 3.5, in case I liked their earlier garage rocky one more. I did like this one more, but in a way that made me think the previous was inflated. Call that one a 2.5 rounded up, this one a 3.5 rounded down.

Fun fem-fronted female rock

New sound compared to what I usually listen to, first time listening to a lot of the songs I gave them extremely low ratings, but on the second time through I realized how much I liked the style.

I quite enjoyed this album but it's really not that unique and doesn't deserve a place in the annals of the 1001. This chart is more about fulfilling genre categories than having a definitive list of the best.

She sounds like an early-2000’s attempt at Joan Jett or Debbie Harry, not that that’s inherently a bad thing. Definitely has a garage band/punk vibe. Not a huge fan, but kind of interesting. Maps is a standout, not only because it is sonically different from the majority of the album but also because it is just splendid. Says more with simple lyrics and her voice is just more emotive. Easily the best song on the album. Also, I love the line, “I wish I could buy back the woman you stole” in Y-Control. Says so much in one line.

Maps is good, rest is OK

Too harsh

PD: HAHA FUNNY TIKTOK MEME.

Alright.

I’m not sure I’m comlrrrabke with so many “yeahs.” Let’s tone it down here. Let it be known. The Spotify description of the band begins with this phrase: “It could only be called alchemy, the transformative magic that happens during the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ most tuned-in moments in the studio.” Yup. “Posted by the yeah yeah yeahs.” We may be in for a pretentious ride. This one is an enigma. The sounds hit my ears as both supremely poppy and also subversive somehow. Lots of repetition and while not one I’ll be returning to, not horrible. More indie rock of the era. Got some screams in there. This one had a pretty driving thread all the way through it. Surprisingly really quite good. Has an infectious energy. This has cool instrumentation, but something about the songwriting makes this feel like sassy girlboss country music from the 2000s. Carrie underwood with the most furrowed brow you’ve ever seen. Pass. Ooh this one make want to listen to the Hives. This thing is moving. I’ve heard “Maps” before and did not expect this pace and attitude from the rest. Yeah the tense vocal passages near the end along with the plinking guitar. This one was good. Ripped. We seem to love that country cadence. Maybe they’re southern. Repetition of the same lame chorus. The energy remains and is certainly admirable but this one was less fun. God the guitar/bass tone here is pretty much black sabbath. Not a bad thing. The vocals don’t do it for me so much here, but god damn I still love the energy. Riff is good on Cold Light. Especially with the vocalist’s penchant for unhinged punk delivery. Nothing too distinctive here but another decent one. Huh? No no no?? I thought. I mean. Ugh. Im so confused. I want to go home. The one sort of had moments of brilliance. Maps is not for me. I even hated playing it on rockband in 2007. This isn’t a 17 year old opinion. Reaffirmed by the lame singing and nothing happening instrumental. I like when a little bit of fuzz enters the picture, but otherwise, this song stinks. Makes sense it’s the most popular. I kind of miss the energy. Although this one has nice songwriting. It’s growing on me. Not bad. Oh brother what did I do to deserve this one. A stinker in a line of relatively stink free tracks. Poor song. What did they do to you? Yeah a really bewildering ending to a strange album. A surprise for me. See?? I can hate the idea If an album and not hate it HIGHLIGHTS: Date with the Night, Tick HIGHLIGHTS:

wait... they dont love u like i love u maaaahahahaaaahahahaaaphas WAIT they DONT LOVE U LIKE I LOVE U

Have heard of this group before because of the song "Maps", but really never listened to any of their full albums, this is my first full listen. This has a real garage band sound but so much guitar fuzz and awesome lyrics makes it approachable and I enjoyed it a lot. The song "No No No" goes a bit spacey and annoyed me. "Modern Romance" is a cool song but I had to give it a 1 star because they did the stupid "air of silence" to get to "Poor Song" which sucks. Songs I dig: Date With the Night Tick Black Tongue Maps (best on the album) Yeah! New York After doing the math in Apple Music, I came up with a 2.75/5 rating, so I'm rounding up to 3. Good album!

Not too shabby. Not the most engaging or dynamic listen, but some ear-catching tracks nonetheless. Not as intriguing as "It's Blitz!". 3/5.

Fun and pretty hard rocking early album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I knew Y-Control off this one and always like that one a lot. Maps of course is iconic. Some of the others honestly a little heavy for my taste. Probably wouldn't seek this one out again but gets a big boost from those two singles. 2.8/5

Liked it. Love the song maps. Likes modern romance too

I'd forgotten just how much energy they always brought to their music! Unfortunately, despite that energy, most of the songs are also individually forgettable.

Some good tracks that I appreciate more with subsequent listens (Rich, Date With the Night, Man, No No No), but I would argue the genre is better represented by other bands of the time - or maybe Karen O's 'beautiful mess' schtick just isn't for me.
