Reviews (page 4 of 8)

RIP to people listening to EN for the first time. It's not my first rodeo but I genuinely don't know why Kollaps was chosen for the list instead of Halber Mensch. I guess Kollaps is more "industrial" in its purest form. Definitely not an album I'd go back to or listen to casually but I'm here to make their average a bit higher, at least for that random Serge Gainsbourg cover 2/5

Incredibly interesting listen, if at the same time truly aggravating. I wanted to dnf like 50 different times because my headache was impossible. Uuuuh ambience of an abandonned warehouse filled with teens destroying the place, maybe a construction site of some sort. Expected more yelling. Was crying, was laughing, was crying with laughing. It's a recommend to at least listen to once and then never again.

This is a hard one to rate. On the one hand, I appreciate the experimental nature, the successful creation of a dystopian soundscape, and the influence it had on later electronic/industrial bands I like. On the other hand, it is brutal and I never want to hear it again. The latter half of the album is easier to listen to than the first.

It's a little too "noisy" for my preferences...

Remember in the 80s when CDs first came out and they said you could eat your dinner off them, drive a steam roller over them and chuck them in the sea? I bet if you did, they would sound exactly like this. It’s not for me, but the world needs artists that plough their own furrow, and if you listen carefully to this album, you can hear their tractor.

People will listen to modern hip-hop and say that it’s experimental. If you haven’t listened to an hour’s worth of metal pipes, sewing machines, hammers, and drills, you still have a long way to go. This barely listenable record is the ultimate raw industrial experience. It's an interesting work that becomes progressively more challenging with each song - at least until my mind finally gave in and numbed itself. The standout for me was the song "Kollaps".

Well I can't say I enjoyed listening to it all that much, but the innovation is there and that deserves an extra star. 2/5

It's a neat album if only as a precursor to later industrial music. However, music bordering this close to noise just bounces off me. A couple cool ideas scattered here and there but they get lost among the rest, and the awful low budget production does not help. 4/10.

Cool art project, bro. Who exactly is the audience for this? Who wakes up and is like, I’m gonna listen to this shit today? IDK, definitely unique.

This is a tough one. I appreciate the experimentation. I appreciate the boundaries being pushed, and it’s nice to break up the typical list-listens with something so extreme. The line from this to a lot of music I love, Ministry, early NIN, Skinny Puppy, Rammstein, etc, is obvious and direct. But on its own this is still a tough listen that I did not give repeat spins to. For way too many minutes it’s just the sound of power tools. 2.5

Sånn passe, bedre enn ryktet sitt

Didn't like it, noisy chaotic. Appreciate the novelty tho

Random ah noises. 2/5

I love music that challenges me and takes me out of my comfort zone. Often times I find myself fascinated by the creativity of more experimental albums and artists, with a lot of it being actually really enjoyable. A lot of the time I also find industrial/noise music to have weirdly cathartic qualities. So what's wrong with this album? Well, it just sounds really amateurish. It's like this band's first attempt at making an industrial album (which might be the case, it's their debut afterall) and it just sounds like they told themselves: okay, let's just throw a bunch of harsh sounds at the listener and call it a day. I do think it picks up in the 2nd half with some more ambient-like textures, but I can't say this is something I would listen to again. I do think the band got better after tho.

Not too bad i guess

There is something wild and imaginative in this album i just couldnt find it

Bunnings Warehouse - The Album. Truth is this is maybe a 1.5 star but I will round up because why not. The start of this gave me a headache which is unfortunate as I think the rest of the album is not as harsh as those opening few tracks and actually has some interesting stuff. The first half of this album is genuinely just some German dudes rocking up to the plumbing section of Bunnings and hitting record, but after that they realise that they left their instruments in the car outside and they bring them in which makes things a bit better. I just don’t think this type of music is for me. There’s some interesting rhythmic notes here and there but man, it’s just a German guy yelling over hardware sounds at points. Also weirdly Hells Kitchen ass violin noise on one track. Very unforgiving. The title track, however, is excellent gear. Arguably the most musically interesting track on the album.

Jesus... this was a hard listen. I understand the importance of the album, but similar to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, it's very rough, with exception of some glimpses that have interesting ideas. I recognize I'm not much of an avant-garde music person, so take this with a grain of salt.

I felt each crumble of whatever is kollaps-ing and don’t really understand at the same time, till the silence at the very end

Of all the albums to go into completely blind it’s the one that feels as though it could have left me deaf. This is the hardest time I’ve ever had listening to an album. Genuinely terrifying at times and psychologically exhausting. I can say with absolute certainty I will never revisit this. If anyone ever asks me again what my peak “scaring the hoes” album is it will without a doubt be this. I have to respect the vision and effort that must have gone into creating something that can illicit such a visceral reaction in the listener but ultimately I was just so happy when this was over.

I liked the background instrumentals I’ll give it another try

2 for pity's sake

This is the first album I've ever played that freaked out my cats. Like 20+ years of playing new music almost everyday and this one finally did them in. Clearly not intended to be fun or easily enjoyable, is it interesting? If anyone was asked to describe this music cold, industrial would probably be a common description. Not in reference to the genre, but strictly the sound. After several listens, I think I'm glad I listened, but equally glad I don't have to do it again. Especially considering the year, this was produced, I applaud the ingenuity. Also, fuck you generator for making this my first album of the year. My wife hates me. My cats hate me. Can you get your random shot together, please? Edit: It isn't just the cats, my son just came into the room and said that the music was stressing him the fuck out. He has never, in 20 years, asked me to turn off music with a look of stress in his eyes. Crazy! I guess it is safe to say that the music is emotionally impactful.

Hey. This bold piece of art moved music forward and gave a lot of subsequent people ideas they never would have had otherwise. But you don't need to hear this.

This is a weird one yet strangely enthralling at times

After reading the reviews, I was convinced I was going to hate this album. However, I actually found it quite intriguing. The album is very experimental and unlike anything I normally listen to. I wouldn’t necessarily choose to put it on myself, but I did enjoy getting to know it. Therefore, I would give it 2.5 stars.

Ce sera un non pour moi. Absence de plaisir total.

Interesting for one song but a whole album?

No idea what was going on there. Not totally unpleasant but not something I will be going back to on a regular basis!

i dont want to listen to this any more

This one was somewhat of a struggle to get through. Not because I didn't appreciate what they were doing, the influence and diy attitude are things I really enjoy. But at times the intensity of this album and the length together felt like the upper limits of what is tolerable to me for a causal listen. I think if I went to a performance art show and this was the backing track I would think "makes sense, I like it" but to try to listen to this as a stand alone album the way I would listen to my favourite music I have to admit I don't really get. I appreciate they are the godfathers of industrial music and this album in a lot of ways fascinates me but I can't in good faith review as "music that I really like".

Not as bad as everyone makes out. But too many of the tracks are half thought out experiments rather than fully developed ideas. I guess I'm in the minority that thought this could have been longer....

I love foreign music but this was mostly long instrumentals. Not my thing.

Experimental German techno / industrial vibe

Out there, unconventional musical ideas. Challenges the listener.

This certainly played!

Knowing this is the lowest rated of any of the albums on this generator, I came in with an open mind with the hope that I could find something to like. However this is pretty indefensible. Most of it is just noise with the banger that is the title track. It honestly wasn't offensive though like some of the albums i've given the minimum score to, and I chose to only listen to the 38 minutes of the original tracklist, no bonus recordings, which meant there was no excessive suffering. For that, I'm giving it a 2.

Better than badly drawn boy

No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of.

Woah did I just hear the opening riff of Flying Whales in Abstieg and Zerfall? Anyways…. Now I’m listening to Gojira instead of this and enjoying my time more.

35/1089 этим пытали несчастных узников концлагерей орущая хуйня это ужасно но можно накинуть +1 за аутентичность

I like raw punk metal stuff like this but they never lend well it an album, sits in the same place as that circle jerks album

German Industrial Avant Garde music is not for me. I listened to the entire album but it was a very tough listen for me.

do you think this is what construction workers listen to to sleep? i mean, idk if i have much of a review for this one.. i decided to spend my thanksgiving listening to a german industrial noise album and all i got out of it is how i guess a drill going through concrete is coolish? i could see how someone would like it but, im a little without words and too much metal banging with each other lol 4/10

Great Songs: Good Songs: Kollaps, Sado-Masodub Mid Songs: Tanz Debil, Steh Auf Berlin, Negativ Nein, U-Haft-Muzak, Draussen Ist Feindlich, Jet'm, Sehsucht, Vorm Kreig, Abstieg and Zerfall, Helga, Schiess Euch ins Blut, Rohrbombe, Futuristischer Dub, Liebesdub, Rivieradub, Lunebest Bad Songs: Schmerzen horen, Spionagedub, Mikrobendub, Gastarbeiterdub

I can't say I enjoyed this but I will give an extra point for: - It's a genuine experience to listen to - It sounds closer to actual music than I was expecting (which is admittedly a low bar, but still) - The personnel section on wikipedia made me laugh, as it allocates all of them to 'noises'. The instrument I always wish I'd learned to play

Did not finish. Very german loud rock

Made me laugh a bit at least

Yeah it's awful to listen to, but I'm so tired of 60's psychedelic and shitty 80's post-punk this is actually welcome.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't find this to be the worst album I've heard while participating in this project. Okay, I certainly wouldn't wish to listen to it again, but some of the tracks do have a strangely hypnotic quality that isn't entirely unpleasant. Because of that, I won't include this in my growing list of one-star albums, but two is definitely appropriate.

This reminds me of an SNL skit with Mike Meyer as a German talk show host Dieter. This would be a perfect background music for the Sprockets show.

Was zum Teufel…

When I first started this journey, this was the lowest rated album in the generator(it's the second lowest rated album now). While the album sounds like a group of teenagers bashing objects in stores with Hitler-esque voices in the background, there is also nothing else like it(or is there?). In all seriousness, I did enjoy two tracks, and there were some fun industrial beats scattered throughout this hot mess. Now, does it deserve to have over *half* of its ratings at a one-star? Personally, I think not Yesterday, I had "Junkyard" by The Birthday Party. It's been a wild weekend. Favorite Track: "Sehnsuct".

Álbum louco do caralho, experimental. 5/10

O mein got, du hast uberfokkenkillenmelten meine ears, dude. Nicht so gut. Nein out of ten.

This was way more interesting than what other reviews suggest. I totally understand why this is such a low-rated album, since its industrial sounds are not particularly easy to digest. However, I did enjoy it quite a bit. It sort of reminds me of what Nine Inch Nails would have sounded like in the early '90s if Trent had decided to take out the rock instruments. However, I must admit that this album drags on for way too long. A two-star rating seems adequate for my book.

I imagine if I had a fever dream where I was walking through actual Hell, trying every door in a panic, this would be the soundtrack. Maybe that's your thing, but I like actual music. This is stressing me out... I feel like I can SEE this album as it plays, like a Halloween Horror Nights haunted house walkthrough. Sure, it would make a perfect soundtrack for a hell house, but as a listenable album? No. Giving it 2 instead of 1, just because I can so vividly SEE the horror this shit would be backing...

Das crazy.

I wasn't disgusted by it. However it is a really hard listen.

Not as unlistenable as I was expecting but I still did not enjoy this

Even if I understood what was being sung I don't think this was for me. 1.5

Listening to this album in the middle of a workday probably won't do it justice. I suspect the only time I'd enjoy listening to it would be when I'm a little drunk.

In the beginning it was interesting, but after few songs it went too weird.

This is a band that my goth oriented friends used to listen to a lot, but I've never really sat down and listened to myself. While industrial is a familiar genre, I prefer mine with a dash of music and less art. Neither Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire nor Nitzer Ebb were to my liking and sadly now I can add Neubauten to that list as well. I'm more of a Godflesh, G.G.F.H and Author & Punisher type of a guy.

turned it off truly unlistenably strange. appreciate what they were trying to do that

They call this music?

Well, I am not a fan of German industrial music, I understand that it is appropriate to include in a list like this. With that being said, I did not mind listening to this, but I get both sides of this debate in terms of noise versus cutting edge Music.

Being that this was made it '81, I feel like there is a lot of innovation going on here. It's darker and more evocative than a lot of what's been on this list and only occasionally devolves into what should be considered an "industrial audio recording" instead of "music." Still, while I will be unlikely to revisit it, I think its unlikely we get bands like NIN and Ministry without going through this first.

Definitely get how NIN might have spawned out of something like this, but the repeated use of power tools as instruments kept this from being listenable.

Danny Music! Great early example of where techno is gonna go. Really cool soundscapes come and go. I'm probably not gonna have it on at a party. Glad I've listened to it. Stars reflect 'I wanna listen to this again and go deep on it' Stars do not reflect 'this has artistic value' Because this has a ton of artistic value. And the kick drums sound dope.

i respect it and i’m glad i listened to it but this type of music just isn’t really for me

It should be on the list so it's not a 1.

Это интересно, но ААААААА МОИ УШИ

Not great, Faust and Can did this type of music a lot better than this. It’s a one from me

Points for experimenting and turning an idea of music upside down, but this album is really headache-inducing.

Takes a little getting used to but I mostly came around by the second half, when they softened it a little and were less likely to have the dude screaming shit in German over the top of it. First half probably more authentic but tough to listen to My enjoyment of this was more a one but I’ll toss it a star for being weird as hell. Sado-Masodub is a low key banger

If enough this are hit then at some point it will resonate. Stuck with this through gritted teeth with some reward. As the tracks went on the very angular noise gave way to something more palatable. Nevertheless not something to revisit.

and here we go --Tanz Debil...yup, it's different --Steh Auf Berlin...Ow, my teeth. Once I settled in, I could sort of groove to it --Negativ Nein...okay, I kind of hear Reznor in this. Not as fun as NIN but it's there --U-Haft-Muzak...jawohl! Ich habe Muzak! --Draussen ist Feindlich...ambient oddness with a scary lady voice in the mix --Schmerzen Hoeren...you can't scare me away, Blixa! I'm listening to all of it! --Jet'm...a synth interlude? gives my ears a chance to rest --Kollaps...is that a fairly standard guitar chug? Bargeld can certainly create an atmosphere --Sehnsucht...another track that sounds like an actual song. it's short --Vorm Krieg...interlude --Hirnsaege...we return to the found-objects-as-instruments part our tour --Abstieg and Zerfall..."and"? why not "und"? this is madness! weird song, too --Helga...wat? --Schiess Euch Ins Blut...could be a track on The Wall --Rohrbombe...not a bad beat. that's all it is --Futuristischer Dub...short ambient stuff --Sado-Masodub...there's a cool bass sound hidden in here. not sure if it's an actual bass. PVC pipe? --Liebesdub...sick beatz --Spionagedub...okay, I like these sounds. Probably sampled somewhere by someone important --Mikrobendub...meh --Gastarbeiterdub...what weird dreamspace did I just walk into? Oh, it's the dentist's office --Rivieradub...I've almost defeated you, Bargeld! --Luenebest...sounds like children rhythmically slamming their school supplies onto the gymnasium floor. And with that, it is done

This is weird and challenging. Occasionally interesting.

Disturbing and headache-inducing but not entirely bad

industrial rage noise. idk

A little too much.

Not my jam but I do appreciate the creativity

Indigesto mas fui até o fim

If this is music it tries really hard to not be music. If this is not music it tries hard to be music. I'll give this a 2 because at least it is uniquely whatever the hell it is

I don't think I understand it.

Gesundheit! But can you dance to it?

Very industrial. Feels early. A little bit too screamy for me but interesting still. I did not finish this album

This was crazy.

this is pretty much the exact kind of thing i was micspamming on garry's mod servers when I was 12 Honestly, the first half of this sucks. No shit. It's just a German retard with a power drill rubbing a cheese grater against the mic. Once you get past the nonsense at the start, there's actually something arguably interesting to listen to here. Unfortunately the start is so fucking shit that it doesn't save this from a low rating. Though given that this is the 2nd lowest album on the site (it was 1st when I started), a 2 is a generous rating here. Industrial music isn't music. It's just an excuse for having no talent. Don't come @ me.

Not bad for background music but in no rush for a second go.

This sounds like the ur-text for Nine Inch Nails, but that makes it more "interesting" than "listenable"

listened to about half of the album. Interesting but not my typical genre

I don't hate this, I'm just not in the right space for it. Sonic creations like this are best consumed by fit, young men who feel like they have all the time in the world.

Musical interpretations of this sort, while interesting, are not going to readily embraced by me at this point in my life. It might have appealed more when the album was actually released, it just doesn't work for me now.

Атональные индустриальные шумы под выкрики Кийа!

Is this what it feels like to be a neo-nazi who unironically misses the point of the music they like? Well, I’m not interested in shaving my head or purchasing a weapon after listening to this, so you can’t blame the music. While I certainly won’t revisit this album, I agree it belongs on this list.

It's not horrible, but it did give my girlfriend a headache after 6 minutes.

Not as bad as the later "industrial rock" garbage like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry.

CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG

German Nine Inch Nails... If Trent Reznor couldn't actually play music.

2.2 1x experimental back half seems like it would be up my alley, but i didn't really enjoy it. catch up 8/11/2025

Meh, don't understand the appeal. I guess there's some historical signifigance, (Nine inch Nails), but not for me. 2 stars

Have you ever tasted flavor extract? It is really strong and tastes terrible. That is how I feel about this album. It is too industrial to the point it almost doesn't sound like anything. But there is a lot in there that would be awesome if incorporated into other songs, but to the extreme it is, is not good. It almost seems like an experiment of saying "hey look what is possible in music"

For the first half of Kollaps it seems as if Blixa Bargeld is in a mission to actively destroy my speakers. There’s a clear vision but it’s almost unlistenable. Then something magical happens as the title track starts. It’s as if the group find some compassion and the compositions (let’s not kid ourselves and call them songs) begin to find some structure and purpose. It continues for the rest of the record, which doesn’t make it a pleasant listen but makes it absolutely deserving of a spot on this list. Also, all you guys calling Rammstein German industrial should probably try this.

Its frustrating cuz this album touches the edges of greatness but does everything wrong by it. If there was just a little more musicality and direction it could be so good

maybe i didn't understand it, but it was as if i grabbed all of my pots and pans, and threw them down the stairs and screamed bloody murder at the sight

My tenth grade self would've listened to this all the time. I also would've convinced myself it was great. Is it important? Absolutely. The bones of industrial are all there. Is it fun to listen to while I do lesson plans? Nope.

I mean it's not good but I'm confident I've heard worse on this list

I went in knowing this was the lowest-rated album on the list, and after a couple songs, I determined this was actual music (if extremely avant-garde music), not as bad as I was anticipating, and legitimately interesting in a few ways. So what the hell, 2. I got more out of it than hearing Dinosaur Jr shriek “WHY DON’T YOU LIKE MEEEE?!?!” for five minutes straight.

Certainly interesting. Those Germans can make some weird stuff! That said, I wasn't really digging into this at any point except maybe the last few 'dub' tracks. I would be curious to hear more from them, but I don't think I'll be coming back for more of this particular flavor.

Points for absurd creativity but it's almost impossible.

I guess you can hear this once...

If you want to listen to random noises with a German sentiment I highly recommend Houmous & Chutneys 89th studio album. Das Bin Lids (It’s Not As Bad As You Think) 1.8 8/23 …Kollaps

Wow. Grating, loud, brash, literally made my skin crawl at times. Well done. Industrial music at its purest, though I still think there are people who listen to this just to annoy others and drive them away. It's interesting and innovative, but not for me.

I can hear how it influenced Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead. But this also isn't very good. Still better than Kid Rock or Ryan Adams.

oh come on... this is total shite... the aural equivalent of a waterboarding... two stars... for both balls it took to put this one out... all i can say is.. nein...

I don't think I need an album's worth of music to get the concept. I think the people making this music were sincere but I think once you extract what you can from it, you'll be comfortable putting it aside forever. Kollaps was the best song by virtue of feeling cohesive and like something appearing from the chaos of the rest of the album, I 'get' it, but at what cost.

I probably won't listen to this again, but it was interesting and somewhat enjoyable

While this is not something I'd usually listen to, this was actually pretty unique and interesting. High 2/5

This is like when I watched Tetsuo: The Iron Man I don't really know what's going on, there's a lot of clanging, and everyone seems upset.

I respect what it's doing, but I can't say I would gladly listen to it again. The odd track worked ok for me, less so the ones which were just power drills and screaming. Still, better than Justin Timberlake.

Just crazy sound effects. Was that a jackhammer? A tub of water?

Instortende Nieuwbouw.

An album engineered to make you feel uncomfortable. Seems fitting for 2025.

kinda bizarre so I appreciate that but didnt finish

I tried. But honestly, I only kept listening to hear German words, thinking that would provide enjoyment. By the time i got to Hirnsäge (brain saw) I was done, angry, and annoyed.

What's the difference between music and noise? Is it melody? Is it rhythm? Do you need to have both or is one enough? You should listen to this album, but you don't need to. As someone else on here said, one star means you didn't get it. I definitely get it, but I still don't really like it. Two stars.

As a monolingual English speaking American I just don’t feel like I can speak on much in this album. Except maybe the album cover: I’m a fan. It did feel pretty dang long and I personally didn’t really jam to the drums falling off a cliff noise.

Nope! Gave up after three tracks. Decided to try a Childish Gambino record in its place. Childish ***** Earsarehurtin Neuheadache ** Future Kid Rock rotation *

probably my first ever listen to an album not in english…very percussive… screaming!

I can see why it was listed, it seems revolutionary for the time, but at the end of the day it mostly sounded like a guy in a warehouse banging an anvil and using a chainsaw.

Cool that I knew nothing about this. Missing enough basic context to even begin to find my way into this, let alone enjoy it.

Actually can't believe this goes on for an hour... and that I continued to listen for an hour. Giving it two stars because I can appreciate a good bit.

I was expecting something else. Not really my cuppa

Es bien rarito pero me gusta que sea alemán

🤷‍♂️

Not really my thing, but mad respect to a band that is willing to go as far as to create their own instruments for their art.

Challenging. Industrial. Experimental. Not an easy listen.

Not my thing

I hate everything about this, but not as much as I logically should.

I appreciate the artistic licence but really struggling to appreciate this one, the first half dozen 'arrangements' could use a bit of foreplay & lube, but gets mildly interesting in the middle, don't mind the albums name sake Kollaps (I think being a Swans fan helps), I'll give it a 2.5⭐⭐ (as an album) for the experience, a lot of it (for all it's wild artistic enthusias) is rather boring or painful, probably wouldn't willingly listen to again or seek physical copies, but you never know, sometimes these things grow on you

Going to force myself to sit through this and try to keep my mind open even though it is currently screaming at me to cover my ears. It’s atmospheric. It sounds like I’m in a horror movie. I will never choose to listen to this again, but at least it’s different.

this album sounds like it was recorded in the toy box killer's trailer. it did manage to win me over a little in the second half - not much, but enough.

FAVO:'U-Haft-Muzak

I gave this 2 stars just solely for how unique it is. Some tracks were not TOO bad but unfortunately most of it was not at all what I needed to get through work for the day.

I wanted to like this, even if only because of the people who have that little guy as a tattoo. I even tried not to skip around, but it got to be too much. I mean it’s interesting with the non traditional instruments & the industrial aspect, but there’s not much else going on that really does much for me.

Nuria: no he podido terminarlo. Jaime: le da un 2 "Por diferente a todo"

Two for the effort

Very strange and incredibly unexpected. I can see the creativity involved in making the album but I fail to understand how this is being included in a list of "must listen" albums. It's honestly hard to get through, considering I listen to these albums while trying to get work done. Still better than Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit, though, because they at least tried to be creative. The creativity and the fact that they at least tried something different bumps it from a 1 to a 2 for me.

I'll start by saying that there's no way to give this album 3 stars. It's either amazing or just bad music. I have to go on the lower end because I didn't feel like there was enough of an attempt to bring more cohesion to what are very interesting sounds and techniques. That's probably part of the point, but that doesn't get it done for me. As an art installation, an experiment with equipment and soundscapes, it's a very cool piece of work. I don't have a problem with it being on this list or anything like that, and I'm sure thousands of people hear it with the right mindset and at the right time of their life and it's deeply inspirational for them. Trent Reznor and Johnny Greenwood I'm sure were influenced either directly or at least indirectly. But it's missing the mark for me to feel like what they did holds weight. Maybe if I knew German?

After reading the other reviews I was expecting something pretty terrible, but Kollaps actually wasn't that bad. Would I listen to it again? No, probably not. Was it a completely joyless experience? No, not really. Most of it is just noise. Some of it was quite unpleasant. I'm sure one of the songs straight up sampled a drill. Sometimes I flinched. But the album really wasnt the worst thing I've ever heard.

Not my taste, a bit weird

I can imagine this album influenced a lot of other artists and albums -- from Nine Inch Nails to "Yeezus" -- who took elements of its abrasive style and incorporated it into their own work. Metal objects as percussion, machine sounds, sudden bursts of distorted screams -- it's all interesting and powerful but this style, in its raw and uncut form here, feels a bit punishing. The album feels more like a toolbox for other artists to take from and use in other genres. At first I thought I might enjoy it more if I could understand the German lyrics. But after glancing at a few translations and reading things like "Lust for flesh! Lust for drugs!" I doubt my opinion would change much. The version on streaming includes a bonus instrumental EP that feels just as bold but that I found more palatable and enjoyable.

I love experimental music but this didn't do much for me. It does feel confident and brash and assertive I appreciate those kinds of colors in music but I really found myself wanting for something listenable. Art should provoke, but sometimes it's nice to sit and listen and enjoy, and I couldn't find that in this experience. 2/5 and it's probably underneath the 2 but rounded up.

1.6 I made it almost 75% of the way through. Avant Garde shite. The reason it's crept into 2 star territory is it actually isn't that annoying if you turn it down slightly and let them bang their metal bins in the background. Somehow this list has thrown up a lot worse albums than this.

I was tempted to give this 1 but tbh I listened to it all which it’s more than summer it the crap on here

I acknowledge its importance. But it absolutely isn’t for me.

Some Germans banging metal and shouting. Not everyone’s idea of music.

Definitely an experience. The sounds coming out of this thing are both wildly produced and at times oddly produced. I listen to this idly or in any social setting but some of the tones they get from, what sounds like them hitting metal bands in abandoned factorys to warping guitars to noise hell are cool. This feels like the band that Swans or NIN would reference as essential for their genres but those aforementioned bands actually add good songwriting in comparison.

That was definitely different

Wow. i tried but c'mon. Can anyone get through all this? Yeah not for me

2 Kollaps of every 5 songs. But has it ups: Sado-Masodub, Tanz Debil, Rivieradub

I can hear some moments in the middle of this very industrialized piece of work, but a lot of it feels simply like noise. 2/5

Абсолютно не мое, хотя понятно, что в начале 80-х это было крутым экспериментом

this shit so ass but 2 bc its different

interesting and novel, but audio quality and the nature of it wasn't enjoyable

Some interesting sounds but overall meh.

This was a hard listen. At it's best I could hear it's influence on NIN and some other 90s bands.

Rammstein's grandfather, and as with all the trail blazers, their sound is very rough and edgy. Couple interesting songs, but otherwise it's just weird sounds and effects. Thank you for showing the way, but as for your actual music - no thank you.

Complete giberish crap, but mildly distracting

I put this one on so I could read while listening to it as I don’t speak German. Somebody help these brothers out! Dark Mein Kraft music. Second half of the album wasn’t as rough for me

Bro a goddamm drill?? That is so annoyingly disruptive in a good way. This really radiates punk. The instruments do sound that they have been spesifically made by hand and they give a spot for them to shine at the end. Future dub was memorable. I found it surprisingly interesting

Yeah, nah. Would make good backing to a shitty streamer bait indie horror game. (2 stars because something gives me the impression they didn't exactly fail at whatever the hell they were trying to do.)

Might have to go back and relisten

Rough. Energetic. At times exciting. But oh so tiring.

Weird. Noise.

Genuinely sorry for any one who got this it sounds like a cat being blended only reason it’s getting a two is because some of the songs actually are good

I have never listened to Einstürzende Neubauten before nor have I ever paid attention to industrial punk or new wave music before. I don't need to listen to it again.

Alright lads. You’ve had your fun with the power tools in the studio. We’ve all got actual jobs to do now.

Gave up after the 5th track. I think I got the gist. I would rather listen to this than Bruce Springsteen

Quite odd German techno slam poetry. 2.0

Why metal and machinery? I think I’d rather listen to water music. Splashing for 3 minutes followed by spraying. 3 more minutes of dripping. Wood clanging would certainly sound better. Maybe just beat my head against a wall for an hour. The fact I’ve actually considered the plausibility of a water sounds record may mean they achieved their goal... +1 for originality

Great music for a haunted house. Was gonna give 1 star (obviously) but then I saw a video of the crowds going nuts for this vaguely evil nonsense noise and I have to give them another star for the impressiveness of the con.

okay it grew on me a little but I still gave up 10 songs in. I kinda dig it, just not something I really want to listen to.

Maybe if this album had a fuller sound with actual music I would have liked it more. Way too much noise and screaming. Sounds like kids making pretend instruments out of random stuff they found in the basement.

I've seen this symbol on shirts and didnt know what it meant, now I guess I know. So, this is not a great album or anything - Is this on the list for cultural/historical significance? One extra star for the sound engineering, which is good. 2/5

I'm not going to give it a 1 because it made me less upset than Nick Cave or Elvis Costello. I am glad it wasn't the full hour shown on Spotify though.

It's such pretty music. Love those lilting lyrics too.

I'm fully in favor of everyone listening to the music they enjoy, and if you enjoy this, we can still be friends, maybe. But I also believe if I ever made a playlist with songs from this record on it, I'd have a lot fewer friends, and I already don't have many. Therefore I cannot like this album.

2.5 rounded down i think this is just a different brand of weird than me highlights: tanz debil, spionagedub, lünebest (feb 13 2026)

I think this might make me reevaluate how I rate these albums. There have been several that give me basically no reaction, and I gave them 2 or 3. This definitely got a reaction, but not a good one, and for that it gets a 2. The forgetable albums will probably start getting 1s. I don't want to finish this, but it's a bit like watching a trainwreck where I'm not sure I can not look. Is it better if I did speak German or does the unknown yelling add to the atmosphere? Note: I tapped out in the middle of the 8th/Title track.

Meh, whatever. Generically percussive and shouty. Some of it is okay, and I like the silliness of "Futuristischer Dub," but overall... not great.

only a square could think this is the worst album on the list

The objective was accomplished. Gonna chalk most of this up to Germans being a weird lot

Mwah, EN has been some pretty great records right after their debut, Halber Mench comes in mind, which is so much better. l very much like their overall sound, but on this record I do not care about the "songs" and hate the shrieking guitar noise, which prevents one from turning the volume up (a necessity for this type of music).

Y'know, I don't have much a defense against this thing being one of the lowest rated albums on the website. Like, yeah, I'm not gonna blame aggregate taste for putting it down here; sonically speaking, it's for sure the absolute hardest album I've heard yet to get into. But I don't think it's **as bad** as its status would imply? For one, I expecting it be nothing but noise: no melody, just clattering and shreiking for the sake of it under the excuse of it being "experimental." But there actually **is**, however, composition, and some kind of melody line to latch onto. It's an incredibly **unusual** melody line to most ears, but it's still **there**. It's not completely thoughtless and thrown together like I'd've otherwise assumed. Then there's the second factor here, and that's the fact that it absolutely belongs here on this list. Like, there's two things I personally want out of this list: albums generally considered the greatest of all time (RS500-core), and interesting shit from around the world. This **absolutely** scratches latter. Believe me, chances are more than likely you're not gonna come out of this album liking it, but I garuntee you you've never heard anything like it before, and you'll be all the better for it. I mean, seriously, I can't tell you how many American and British albums my group's listened to that're flat 3 and I've gained nothing whatsoever from them. "That's sure **this** genre," "that's sure **that** genre," etc. I want more stuff like CLUBE DE ESQUINA, CALL OF THE VALLEY, RUM SODOMY & THE LASH, ZOMBIE—and, yes, this. Random, obscure 80's New Wave or post-punk albums won't broaden your horizons. But this will. It's absolutely worth at least one run-through. And at any rate, **this** is the lowest rated album on the whole website and not **Kid Rock**? The heck are we doin' here, people? Goodness me.

While of course influential to the industrial genre popularized by Nine Inch Nails, to be honest, the tracks at the beginning where it's basically just a pure noise record were really making me consider giving this a 1, but thankfully it picked up in the more digestible second half. I'd give 3.5 but that first half is such a pain on the ears that I'm going down to 2.5 bumped down to 2.

So that's what industrial Krautrock is supposed to sound like. Interesting, but slightly painful

There were few points on this album which were listenable. I thought the title track was good but apart from that it was genuinely atrocious.

This is for sure going to be the hardest one for me to rate. While the music itself is horrible, it does get to me somehow - more so than a lot of other albums I’ve rated low on this website. It’s certainly 56 minutes that makes you question what we mean when we say music is ‘good’.

I’m not opposed to noise based music but there’s gotta be something more to it. This felt like the band heard Black Angels Death Song and scrubbed it of any melody and just recorded it over and over again. At least the songs were short.

I think i have a good idea of who to call for a soundtrack if i'm filming (a) a transylvania based blair witch trial, (b) a dark horrow version of Run Lola Run or (c) an artsy Nazi snuff film. I loved the fact that the liner notes attribute a contribution of "noises" on the album. It's decent at times, Kollaps is pretty good, but its a bit of a tough listen and not sure how it would fit into something you want to listen to multiple times. Interesting to experience.

started out kinda interesting, was more of a "how long left??" kinda album by about halfway

You might as well just stop beside a construction site and listen to it...

Throbbing Gristle was better.

Does sound like Hitler and his boys hitting the local hardware store. Could see it working as music for a film or something. Not very enjoyable but 2 stars for uniqueness.

This is terrible but in a good way and after Nick freaking Cave this is actually awesome. Obviously influential to the industrial music that comes after.

It’s not them, I’m sure. It’s me. But still.

I don’t wanna work just wanna bang on my angle grinder all day!

I do admire this, but I don't enjoy it.

Come for the can-banging, stay for the drills! This was different, I'll give it that. Some of the sounds were genuinely unpleasant to listen to, as in ear pain. But I sorta, maybe enjoyed some of the -dubs at the end of the album. With all that said, though. I think 2 is the best I could do. If I could pick and choose tracks, maybe I could get to 3. But that's not the world we live in. We must listen to these albums. In their entirety.

The wild industrial percussion is definitely the highlight here for me. I love when bands use found objects for percussion. I can see the influence on other later industrial that I love like Nine Inch Nails. The vocals are a bit grating though.

I was excited because yay another industrial but I forgot boring industrial albums exist too

German industrial? On my birthday ;) Can a guy be so lucky The lead singer was also in the Bad Seeds for two decades, which makes this inclusion a lot less surprising. The book entry also draws direct comparisons to Throbbing Gristle & Faust, fellow "sonic terrorists" that I've already come across thanks to this list. This is definitely the least musical of the bunch, and therefore is not popular on this website, to say the least. The consensus seems to be that Kollaps is a bunch of freaks banging on pots and pans, but that's not ENTIRELY accurate in my eyes. The ritualistic proceedings of many of the tracks carry a sense of dread, as though they're the opening ceremonies to something awful and unspeakable. The low-quality recordings and abrupt ends to the tracks further add to the wrongness of this album, like it was never meant to be released. The cherry on top is the album cover on Apple Music; it's slightly crumpled, like a hasty photocopy of a used record sleeve. I definitely hört with schmerzen, but I didn’t hate it. 2.5 HL: "Tanz Debil", "Steh Auf Berlin", title track

better than van halen

i respect it but i dont want to listen to it

Look, did I like this? No. Do I think this is the worst thing that I've listened to during this project? Also no. 2.5/5

Abrasive and chaotic. Albeit intriguing, kind of like an ode to musics earliest iteration of sound creation by banging sonic plates and drums. No defined meter, or beat not even utilizing western music scales. Very semitonal as well. Its cool on paper, listening was hard, appreciating it is also difficult. But I wont give it the worst rating.

Easily the second worst thing Germany has ever done.

Y'a clairement un truc musicalement recherché, à réécouter.

Visiting Berlin: fun Eurobeat song Living in Berlin: whatever this album is

What the Cold War does to a mf 💀💀💀 I’m assuming they’re repeating Germanic phrases that center around social issues? Truly the Death Grips of their time, except this made a bit more sense than death grips do tbh. Never listening to this again, but I get it and respect it

Look it's not particularly good and I thought it was going to be more interesting given this is the lowest rated album on this entire list. It incorporates different sounds and certainly has some interesting passages, but there are also quite a few songs on here which are genuinely boring, with the only point of interest being power tools being looped or some shit like that, which doesn't actually make for exciting music. Whilst I haven't listened to their whole discography they certainly have better albums Light 2.5

Very poor in quality

From this day forward, I'll probably have a little laugh to myself whenever I see a construction site. I'll imagine the workers making weird, deranged music like this with their hammers and drills. Before pressing play I knew that there was only a 0.0003% chance that I would enjoy this record, and safe to say I didn't like it at all. This is not music, this is noise - then again, that was the intent anyway. I pretty much hated this, but maybe my ears are slowly opening up to the fact that this music does exist. And some people are legitimately fond of it. I am not one of those people. But you know what? Respect. It's completely unlistenable to me but I see the appeal better than I do electronica, grindcore (hello, Napalm Death's Scum), or avant-garde jazz (hello, John Zorn's Spy vs. Spy).

Digging the atmospheric, minimalist parts but only suffer through this parafascistoid, imperative scream/noise.

Pretty cool in places, but slightly too wanky for me.

Not my thing.

Well that was…….something.

meh. 2 stars for technobabble nonsense.

Holy smokes not my bag

The novelty of this album and the 1981 timestamp it bears is not lost on me. It's certainly unlike anything I've ever heard from that era. It's just not my cup o'tea.

I'm all fine with crafting a noisy and disturbing product, but the industrial aspect was taking place too much over having a dark and scary mood. Not for me.

can a band be groundbreaking, influential and ahead of their time while also be borderline unlistenable? ladies and gentlemen, i present to you einstürzende neubauten. much of the “music” contained within is just a series of rhythmically paced machine sounds with primitive sounding guitars, synths, and drums. oh, and there’s aggressive sounding german peppered throughout (much of the album is instrumental). definitely influenced bands such as nine inch nails, ministry and rammstein, however this album just wasn’t very good.

What a terrible 365th album

This is the lowest rated album on this site and frankly I’m not too surprised. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the worst thing I’ve come across in this project, but it is nearly unlistenable at times. There were a couple of tracks that were ok, but also just a lot of drilling - also what is up with that Serge Gainsbourg cover?

Better than Throbbing Gristle. Maybe not as good as trout mask replica. But definitely interesting, im scared to say it... but im fairly certain i enjoy it could never see myself buying this on vinyl ever tho. Definitely some songs remind me of "This Heat"

It was a different album to what I'm used to, not really my style though.

One work...interesting. For the most part is it just noise but putting it all together it is...interesting

peculiar

Loud and banging. Damn.

Some parts ok, a few parts good. Large parts tedious

Kollaps is the first official LP/album from the German experimental music group Einstürzende Neubauten. This noise rock / industrial album has undertones of punk tracks and became popular for its shocking use of electronics, machines, and everyday bits of metal within the music. Although Kollaps can be jarring at times, one has to appreciate the creativity that went in to making the album. I may not listen to this again, but it was quite the ride while it lasted.

It's interesting but I'm never listening to it again

Ok, so this is the lowest rated album on the list and somehow I was able to listen to the whole thing. Granted, I said WHAT THE FUCK out loud multiple times. It's filled with tracks of just noises. Like entire tracks of just a drum being repeatedly hit which seemed odd. I don't understand why it's on this list and I never want to listen to it again, but it wasn't THAT bad. There are plenty of other albums on this list that are more musical but absolutely intolerable to listen to.

Not a big fan.

Industrial rock with all the harsh sounds of power tools and whatever else could be found. The punk rock influences make it better than you would expect if you don't like industrial music.

Not sure I needed to hear that.

Ritmos industriales y pesados desde el minuto 1. Hasta cierto punto, acompasados y algún tipo de ritmo. Demasiado monótono y falta de carisma. Muy estilo alemán

Certainly different but can't say I enjoyed my experience. A powerful sense of dread throughout. Happy Christmas

Experiência peculiar que não se repetirar.

Well that was interesting. I almost considered adding a few songs at the end to my playlist. I found myself turning the beginning of the album down.

Well, that was certainly interesting. Not enjoyable at all, but interesting. I was told by Wikipedia that, "The songs are a mixture of rough punk tunes as well as industrial noises..." I was waiting for the punk part of the equation but I never really heard it. 2 stars for the effort.

Nine Inch Nails type shit. 2/5

This is a journey into sound. A journey with no goal in mind, wearing a blindfold, and someone forgot to clean up the junk all over the floor for the past few decades. I wish I could say this was influential or ahead of its time. But it wasn't. Throbbing Gristle already figured their shit out by their 3rd album in 1979. The 2nd star is for creativity and short track lengths. Each track is pretty basic, barely diverging from the first few seconds, but at least the short lengths means there's quite a lot to explore. Not much to get out of it though, so I don't see a point besides maybe hearing a few cool tricks that could actually be useful in a real song. Favorites: Tanz Debil, Jet'm, Kollaps, Sado-Masodub, Rivieradub

80s German industrial experimental noise punk. Lots of banging on scrap metal. Somehow an hour long.

A little insane I must admit but I can see the seance-esque appeal to it

que aflição

Such a difficult one to listen to. It sounds so bad. Highlight of the album is Jet'M, the cover of the Serge Gainsbourg song "Je t'aime... moi non plus"... It is barely recognizable.... 2/5

i truly don't think this deserves to be the lowest-rated album on the entire 1001 albums list. i mean i GET why people aren't going to like it on the surface level but it was definitely unique. some of it sounded like german nine inch nails, while other tracks sounded like someone falling down thirty flights of stairs with their entire drum kit falling after them. either way, it's better than the ninth neil young album on this list. let's do our part to make sure kid rock and his sleazeball ilk fall to the bottom position on this list, yeah? favorites: tanz debil, jet'm, kollaps

IDK, noise is too noisy for me to get into

Yes it's awful. But at least it's not Bjork.

Not for me

Oh no no no no, the infamous lowest rated album on the list. I had a pretentious phase back in school, listened to Merzbow and such. That revision of me would've learned to love this. It also likely would've learned to love River of Fundament, had it known about it. Honestly, it gets significantly better starting from the title song. Wouldn't have dissed my past self if songs before Kollaps didn't exist

this is super interesting but my anxiety was at a hightened stage during the entirety of it it does deserve its #1 lowest rating on the site award but its still better than the beatles, sincerely

Run from it, hide from it, deny it, it comes all the same... If this Einsturzende Neubauten album is truly one of the 1001 you have to listen to before you die, its probably best to make it your last. It's a full on sensory assault. An harsh dose of unadulterated, raw, violent, uncut sonic sodomy, from the first sound of a sledgehammer wrapped barb wire smashing your into your face to the death rattle of the rusty power drill that's being used to perform trepanation in order to release the pressure that's built up in your brain over the interminable 38 minutes required to listen to this magnum opus of German industrial revolution. Now it would be easy, too easy, to preread the reviews and decide that a 1 is all that's required and move on with your day, but stop and appreciate the chaos, even if only for a few fleeting seconds. Maybe you'll appreciate the nuance of future industrial tools usage like Lee Ranaldo using power tools at the start of Sonic Youth's The Burning Spear....

I am afraid that I found this virtually unlistenable

Cool logo, respect that they are pioneers of Industrial music, they walked so Aphex Twin could run but at the end of the day this album is mostly just noise

This currently has the lowest global rating of any album on the list, so I was expecting something spectacularly unlistenable. I was disappointed. Although it basically comprises banging and clattering sounds from an industrial sheet metal factory, they are quite listenable banging and clattering sounds from a somewhat melodic sheet metal factory. Yes, it's challenging and, no, it may not be music, but there are far, far worse records on the list than this one (looking at you, Throbbing Gristle, Butthole Surfters, The Shaman, 50 Cent, and The Mothers Of Invention). Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Kollaps Date listened: 09/10/23

You’ll Instantaneously hear core roots of the industrial sound. The synth pop sound with heavy metal. Obvious influencers to bands such as nine inch nails, Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills and Ramstein. This album definitely flows from one track to the next but if you aren’t a fan of industrial, you may find yourself asking “WTH is this?” Definitely not for everyone, but because this band helped the movement of industrial music, it’s pretty cool to hear how it started and evolved. 2

Another noise album Hard to find any musical merit in this one, sounds like teenagers in a garage playing with Dad's instruments.

Is it safe?

Defiantly doing their own thing, felt more like something you might hear at a contemporary art exhibit featuring pictures of emaciated people in stasi west berlin prisons and buckets of piss and shit around to give the full aroma of this Dadaist fever dream.

Den får lidt på historisk faktor 😅 ca 3/10

En tiedä, onko musa tehty elektronisilla välineillä vai ns. orgaanisesti jollain romulla, mut ei kai sillä väliä. Kaipaisin edes jonnekin vaihteeksi jotain melodianoloista.

Had to listen in two sittings, was tough to get through. Wanted to like it, but couldn't get into it

This was my first industrial rock album and after listening to this, I don't think anything could be described as more industrial. I felt like I was working in an iron mill in Germany in the 1980's. I would not want to be there then, and I don't want to be there now. Was it worth a listen? Maybe on a technicality but I would never choose to listen to this again unless I wanted to punish another person. Stand out track: U-Haft-Muzak

Very fucking weird.

Not for me... two stars

Still better than Fred Durst or Kid Rock.

Nu effe niet heren

Ear-splitting and mischievous.

I enjoyed the 8min title track but a lot of the rest was just ‘too industrial’ and a bit of a chore.

that german industrial, argh

Rating: 4/10
