An album full of literal bangers. Hahaha, I made myself laugh. This is fascinating. And yes, obviously better than Kid Rock. I mean, obviously. Are you mad? Of course it is. And Ryan Adams, both of them. Anyway I like krautrock and I like industrial. And I like experimental stuff, and people smashing shit together while screaming in German. So yeah, high score. Tempted to rate it higher than I rate Sgt Peppers for the lols.
Its reputation precedes it - I was pretty excited for this, knowing it as the lowest rated album here. And wow it did not disappoint - I feel like I’m tripping balls on an east Berlin building site. Found the cover of Serge Gainsbourg vaguely hilarious. Wish I was a special snowflake noise lover but alas, I am a hater.
Glad that's over. I stuck with it but it baffles me that that would be an album someone would think, hey, let's listen to that and stick it on. Very industrial, very noisy, very intense. Not very musical
This is currently the lowest rated album on the list. It takes "industrial metal" a bit too literally and just sounds like someone in a factory hitting parts of it and recording it...its bad, really bad. I'm not even sure I can use the line but it's better than Serge because I'm honestly not sure it is
I don't even know what the hell im listening to or how to even rate this thing, it sounds like someone going crazy and if a homeless man was trying to perform music with random things he found at a junkyard for spare change but was on drugs, I cannot even understand what was even trying to be portrayed it's so horrible and my ear needs help. Abomination

Leave it to Dadaists in Berlin to come up with Industrial. Does this qualify as lo-fi? Steh auf Berlin got me tuned in and paying attention. Jet-m gets a mention for having something resembling a melody. Helga gets honorable mention for being a short clip that sounds like a radio followed by more than half of the song being silent.

Well that was interesting. I almost considered adding a few songs at the end to my playlist. I found myself turning the beginning of the album down.
Is this music? Or a collection of sounds? I’m really not sure at what point a “collection of sounds” crosses over into “music”. So I’m very confused by this listen. It doesn’t feel like music at all. How did a group of people come up with this, think it sounded good, and convinced a label to release it? And somehow there’s fans of this “music”? If I made this music and sent it to labels, no one would take me seriously. I don’t quite understand how this ever got out into the public; never mind how it got on this list. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

It may have given me a stomach ache
So, this is my first time hearing this album and… I have a lot of thoughts. First though, I have a question for my fellow reviewers out there. How many times in your life have you uttered some version of the sentence, "I listen to all kinds of music," or "My tastes are diverse," or "I like everything"? So today we have Einstürzende Neubauten, here to call all of us to the carpet and really make us examine what we consider to be music. What do we even consider to be music? How far can that line be pushed? Are we all full of shit? At almost 900 albums into this little project, I kind of love that. It's why we're here, right? When we hear a piece of "music" for the first time, it's instinctual to look for what feels familiar, to orient us into whatever it is we're about to experience. We unconsciously look for structure when we listen to music just to comprehend what we're experiencing. EN is consistent in their refusal to provide that structure for us, so as a listener you're kind of on your own to figure it out. On an essential level, this album is pretty disorienting and unsettling from the get-go because of this. I mean, the boundaries you expect from music are completely gone here, and you just have to strap in and let it take you wherever it's going. There is nary a hook nor a bridge nor a melody to be found, so be prepared. This is the purest, most stripped-down representation of industrial music that exists out there. It's gritty and noisy and minimalist in ways that are incredibly daring. As you work through this 1001 albums project, you will find pieces of this music in the DNA of dozens of albums from artists that came after it - industrial, post-punk, goth, alternative, metal, electronica. It's not a particularly easy listen, but it's not a hard listen either. It's not the kind of album I would just want to hear on the regular, but this is pretty compelling, primal stuff. The "Dub" songs probably are the most listenable of the bunch, but across the board, the album is never boring. I was planning for a 3 with this album, but this is a 4. Truly mind bending, fascinating stuff. I'll also add, EN is still out there making music today, 40+ years later. Sleep well. 2/10. You know, I wasn't expecting to be able to recognize this as music after how everyone talked about it in their reviews. But this is definitely music, just really unpleasant to listen to and super fragmented. And the first 20 minutes or so is really pushing the boundaries of what can be considered music, though it does definitely mellow out in parts, especially because I didn't read the Wikipedia, and listened to the extra tracks on Spotify, some of which were a bit more chill. So I can see why this is an interesting album, and how it became an influential album. So did I like this album? No. Will I listen to it again? Probably not. Am I glad I listened to this? Yes, and I can't say the same for a plenty of the other low-rated albums on this list.

Well, that was certainly interesting. Not enjoyable at all, but interesting. I was told by Wikipedia that, "The songs are a mixture of rough punk tunes as well as industrial noises..." I was waiting for the punk part of the equation but I never really heard it. 2 stars for the effort.

I can't tell if German makes this album better or worse. Part of me wants to know what they're saying but the other part of me knows it's probably like 'the recycling bin is full again" or "grape jelly and sledge hammers go boom". Now that I think about it, the German (and muffled screams) adds authenticity to the experience. What was I thinking? Everyone knows true noise rock has to be in German (duh). Also, sorry Sonic Youth. German is the key here. Throbbing Gristle was truly terrible but that's only because it was in English. I gotta say that I like the shift and having this album here. It's not something I'd listen to, but it was more interesting than some of the others. Bee Gees, I'm talking to you.
This one was so special I had to share it with my high school students. They asked if it was music. I wasn't sure how to answer.
I was worried when I saw this was 80s and German. I was even more anxious after reading the blurb about industrial noises from self-made music machines. All my fears were well founded. If I could give this negativ nein stars, I would.
There are so many amazing aspects to EdN’s history. - The band’s 1984 London show was cancelled 20 minutes in when they started drilling and jackhammering into the stage floor. They must have been overcome, channeling their inner Fraggle Rock Doozer, with inspiration from their core construction identity. - Blixa Bargeld teamed up with notoriously terrible Nick Cave in the early 80s and was a member of both bands until the early 2000s, when amazingly, she ditched Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to focus on EdN. Hahaha Nick Cave, you suck! - Band member threw a metal bar into a booing crowd and got dropped from U2’s 1993 tour. This album is not music to me. There are rhythmic aspects to it, but music it is not. Considering how bad this album is, the most amazing aspect of EdN’s history is that they are still active and have been continuously together since 1980. I had to list to some of their follow on albums to find out if they stayed this awful. They turned into an electronic dominant sound at some point and it’s not half bad (see album Ende Neu) although my point of reference here is skewed. Music is a wild and fantastical art form. I couldn’t find it, but they did have a 2004 album where “blowing the plastic pipes with an air compressor, were greatly explored”. That sounds terrible but you never know.
I get why this record is so low rated. And it's really not very good. However. It came out in 1981, and didn't use computers. This thing is so far ahead of it's time that it had zero chance at being "good" in the traditional sense. It could use some melody. But otherwise, this is a great piece of history.

Aware of them (due to Blixa being in the Bad Seeds), seen the t-shirt, never listened to them much before. I dug it, experimental in the best sense. Another album that justifies this project.
A friend of mine noticed that Einstürzende Neubauten has released 12 studio albums over the last 40 years - surprising longevity for a band whose music sounds like a trash compactor mixed with a chainsaw. So I went to YouTube and listened to Einstürzende Neubauten's more recent work. Though some of their tracks dating from just a few years ago have a greater sense of melody than anything on "Kollaps", I still found the music grating.

This is a journey into sound. A journey with no goal in mind, wearing a blindfold, and someone forgot to clean up the junk all over the floor for the past few decades. I wish I could say this was influential or ahead of its time. But it wasn't. Throbbing Gristle already figured their shit out by their 3rd album in 1979. The 2nd star is for creativity and short track lengths. Each track is pretty basic, barely diverging from the first few seconds, but at least the short lengths means there's quite a lot to explore. Not much to get out of it though, so I don't see a point besides maybe hearing a few cool tricks that could actually be useful in a real song. Favorites: Tanz Debil, Jet'm, Kollaps, Sado-Masodub, Rivieradub

Nazi banging pots and pans
"Kollaps" is the first official album by German experimental group Einstürzende Neubauten. Industrial and experimental are the genres. I'll say. The music is a mixture of rough punk tunes and industrial noises from music machines, electronics and metal plates. Lots of metal on metal in this one. Einstürzende Neubauten members included Blixa Bargeld (lead vocals, guitar, noises), N.U. Unruh (percussion, vocals) and F.M. Einheit (percussion, vocals). "Tanz Debil" (Debility Dance) has a buzzsaw in the background. Pounding metal and percussion. Blixa yelling in the background. Wow, this is a harrowing sound. "Negativ Nein" (Negative No) starts out with someone walking in water. Strings plucking. Screaming. Exasperation. Horrifying. "Schmerzen Hören (Hören mit Schmerzen)" (Hearing Pain (Listen with Pain)) has echoing metal sounds. Lots of guitar feedback. Blixa sounds like he's dying. "Kollaps" (Collapse) has a prancing, eerie guitar, sort of Velvet Underground sounding. The pounding is repetitive. Screaming, dramatic, the vocals are very similar to Suicide. "Bitte, Bitte, Bitte" ends the song. Ah, Bitte equals please. "Abstieg & Zerfall" (Descent & Decay) adds a sound like metal getting cut by a wheel blade. There's pounding on tin cans, motor sounds and a guitar sounding like it's been playing backwards. This was quite an experience. I never knew so many sounds could be made by pounding metal on metal. This album is stark, harsh, horrifying and at the same time intriguing, creative and avant garde. There is a connection between the starkness of Suicide through this album to what would become the industrial music of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. I'm only going to recommend this to anyone who is both Suicide and Ministry fans. And, that would be me too.

I went into this with low expectations given that it’s the lowest rated album of the list on this site. And then… I kind of liked it. Like, I don’t really want to listen to it again, but it was interesting. And imaginative. And transgressive. Then again, I was a composition student and I heard a lot of fucked up shit passed off as music back then, so maybe my tolerance for noise-music is high. It’s actually a lot more musical than I think some people are giving it credit for. It’s not just noise and it’s not just random. There is definitely some thought behind it all and it effectively makes the listener squirm. I’d rather be confused by this than bored by something else.

I think that the title "Schmerzen Hören" (Hearing Pain) aptly describes the overall listening experience of the album. I also think that this was the intention of the artists (I deliberately do not refer to them as musicians). The only question that remains is: why?
i truly don't think this deserves to be the lowest-rated album on the entire 1001 albums list. i mean i GET why people aren't going to like it on the surface level but it was definitely unique. some of it sounded like german nine inch nails, while other tracks sounded like someone falling down thirty flights of stairs with their entire drum kit falling after them. either way, it's better than the ninth neil young album on this list. let's do our part to make sure kid rock and his sleazeball ilk fall to the bottom position on this list, yeah? favorites: tanz debil, jet'm, kollaps

Hello, welcome to the reviews page for the lowest-rated album on this website! Take a seat, dive into the horror of Industrial music. Pure industrial music (none of this industrial metal or industrial techno stuff) is content exploring dark, noisy soundscapes that sound, well, industrial. More metal than metal, more raw than punk. There's a specific fascination with the mechanical, rhythmic chaos of the factories. It aims to capture the bleak nature of the artist's realities, the world around them. Kollaps is a true, German reflection of the industrial genre. It is a monstrous experience and one that is delightfully disturbing. Wails from vocalist Blixa Bargeld, as if crying out for release. Unrelenting noise from things that simply cannot be instruments. Kollaps is, for lack of a better term, wrong, but it's execution is oh so right. What a messed up and uncomfortable album this is. Einstürzende Neubauten must have known the power of something like this, and how goddamn unpleasant it was. It's beautiful.
I find it odd that people hate industrial music so much but have no problem with verified assholes ranting and raving about bitches, money, and drugs. I'd take German experimental industrial music any day over that.

Oh no no no no, the infamous lowest rated album on the list. I had a pretentious phase back in school, listened to Merzbow and such. That revision of me would've learned to love this. It also likely would've learned to love River of Fundament, had it known about it. Honestly, it gets significantly better starting from the title song. Wouldn't have dissed my past self if songs before Kollaps didn't exist

Quite possibly one of the hardest albums I have ever listened to. I'm surprised I overcame my temptation to just stop listening to this album after song 2. I'm familiar with industrial music. Given the year, this band seems to have been one of the first bands to pave the way of industrial music.. But there isn't anything note worthy other than the fact it was new at the time. I can't even call this music. It's just noise albeit interesting noise.. But it's just random percussion and other random noises: chains clinking, drills drilling, metal being grinded, bent and/or waved... Bands like Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails must have taken influence from this band, among others such as Ministry, but added melody and created something tangible and worth listening to. The only positive: pioneer of industrial music. Everything else is negative. I wish I had not wasted an hour listening to this album. How they have ~100k monthly listeners blows my mind...
Wtf is this shit
Remember that scene in Home Alone 2, where Marv and Harry are on the other side of the die and Marv asks what’s that sound? And Harry replies: That was the sound of a tool chest falling down the stairs. Well that’s essentially what this album is. This album doesn’t belong on a list of albums to listen to before you die, this album belongs on a list of why did this get made. Whomever recommended it be added to this list loses all credibility they have in the music industry, and in fact they should be imprisoned for it as well. This album was trash, pure absolute trash. I wish I could give it 0 stars, but even that would be too much.

Strong Industrial vibes out of the gate. I dig the background metallic thump, but kind of hate the splashing electric shock that forms the front and cente of Tanz Debil. Can only go up from here, right? Oh I was wrong. We really went straight for a jackhammer and man banging on metal pipes. This may very well be the first album on this list that I don't finish. Yeah, I can't do this one. I have a high tolerance for musical bullshit, but this has exceeded my limit. Were it just raw, caustic industrial sounds or reverberated screech in isolation I might have been able to do it, but my ears can't handle both at once. The fact that some "songs" on here have over 100k listens on Spotify might very well be an indication that our species is not worth saving. 1 / 5
I was just thinking the other day how we have only had English and Spanish albums. Oh crap, this is the lowest rated album globally on this list. Buckle up! Obligatory "would not do drugs" comment. Jet'm has an actual instrument! I could see this being the soundtrack to a movie that is just the "Lust" part of Se7en for an hour. Spionagedub and Rivieradub aren't terrible. If more of the album was like that then I could take it more seriously. There's already too much music to listen to, I don't think I need to listen people push the boundaries of what can be considered "music".

Oh wow this is hurting my head. Not sure if I can take 56 minutes of this. There is so much screaming and banging. LOLOL someone in the global reviews said it was thought-provoking. Cut my ears off please. Is this what it was like to live in Nazi Germany as a Jewish person? This is what I feel like meth is like but in music form. Honestly I'm not finishing this. I've heard enough and don't see it turning around. Not wasting my time getting yelled at on a Wednesday morning.
I've known about this band for a while thanks to Henry Rollins' tattoo, but had never really given them a listen. I really enjoyed the industrial chaos sound.
Run from it, hide from it, deny it, it comes all the same... If this Einsturzende Neubauten album is truly one of the 1001 you have to listen to before you die, its probably best to make it your last. It's a full on sensory assault. An harsh dose of unadulterated, raw, violent, uncut sonic sodomy, from the first sound of a sledgehammer wrapped barb wire smashing your into your face to the death rattle of the rusty power drill that's being used to perform trepanation in order to release the pressure that's built up in your brain over the interminable 38 minutes required to listen to this magnum opus of German industrial revolution. Although it basically comprises banging and clattering sounds from an industrial sheet metal factory, they are quite listenable banging and clattering sounds from a somewhat melodic sheet metal factory. Yes, it's challenging and, no, it may not be music, but there are far, far worse records on the list than this one (looking at you, Throbbing Gristle, Butthole Surfters, The Shaman, 50 Cent, and The Mothers Of Invention). Fuck this noise I mean there has been some bad shit on this list but at the very least that shit resembles music. I don't see how the author could possibly get to track 3 and not only want to hear more, but then put it on the list. One thing that will come from listening to 2 tracks of this shit is it clarifies what is really worth a 1. In the past I've given Kings of Leon, Mariah Carey and A-ha 1s but that stuff while bad is at least music or an attempt at it. And what kind of drugs does someone even take to this noise?
You’ll Instantaneously hear core roots of the industrial sound. The synth pop sound with heavy metal. Obvious influencers to bands such as nine inch nails, Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills and Ramstein. This album definitely flows from one track to the next but if you aren’t a fan of industrial, you may find yourself asking “WTH is this?” Definitely not for everyone, but because this band helped the movement of industrial music, it’s pretty cool to hear how it started and evolved. 2
While you can find musicality in every track, this is definitely a sound experiment with industrial tools, voices calling out. None of these tracks will end up on a playlist of mine. I was very curious to hear what was coming next. Unintentionally absurd and humorous. High 1?

Amongst the most daring and anarchist offerings in industrial and punk, Kollaps remains the standard bearer for not just Einstürzende Neubauten but for their genre in general. Over forty years on, it still beguiles, bemuses and embolds the listener to make their own opinions on what's being beaten over their ears. Not the first best introduction to industrial music but it is very important nonetheless. Favorites: Tanz Debil, Steh auf Berlin, Negativ Nein, U-Haft-Muzak, Jet'm, Kollaps, Sehnsucht, Vorm Krieg, Abstieg and Zerfall, Schiess Euch Ins Blut, Rohrbombe, Sado-Masodub.

The word angst is Germanic in its origin, so it's of no surprise that this music did too. It's horrible, but in the best way. They find emotion in power tools and destruction. It's difficult. But brilliantly so. It could only be done once, but it's amazing it was done at all. While normally I sneer at the people giving low ratings, this is an album you have to be in exactly the right mood for. Amazing Serge Gainsbourg cover too!

This was my first industrial rock album and after listening to this, I don't think anything could be described as more industrial. I felt like I was working in an iron mill in Germany in the 1980's. I would not want to be there then, and I don't want to be there now. Was it worth a listen? Maybe on a technicality but I would never choose to listen to this again unless I wanted to punish another person. Stand out track: U-Haft-Muzak
This is album is a strange one. In one sense it is neat for exploring noise, but at the same time the album kinda sucks. It's mostly just banging noises and german men screaming. There are some tracks with a distinct rhythm, but practically no melody. If Jerry Garcia can say that rap isn't music because of a lack of melody then I feel he would say the same about this. Also I'm pretty sure listening to this album is what made Kanye West decide that he liked hitler

I appreciate the use of tools and building materials, it sounds like a demented construction site. For an album that they were trying to make unlistenable, it has quite a bit going for it. The rhythms are entrancing at times, and they leave a lot of space in many of the tracks, which invites then listener in before they are eventually jolted out of the trance with a primal scream. Would listen again.
Though this isn't something I'd put into my daily rotation, it resonates with me on a personal level far more than a great deal of other albums on this list. I know where the impulse to make something like this comes from, and you can hear how it gave permission to others that followed to go further down the trail they blazed here.
First reaction was being wide-eyed and uttering "woah". Industrial Stockhausen. That "drum" beat is crazy cool on the 1st track. Other tracks with that "drilling" sound definitely is a bit much for me, not one I wanna hear (I should go to the Dentist soon tbh). Definitely experimental, but I love when this stuff pops up on 1001. I was working against the clock trying to get some client work done before the meeting so this was quite perfect for the mood. Lots of the random noises/electronic bits are lots of things I'd make but then go "ok, I can never use this though... but it kinda sounds cool". These folks just went and did it. Inclusion of guitar was a good call to ground things a bit. I respect it a lot honestly, I fully understand why someone would rate it a 1. I have to be in the right mood as well to listen to this, but I am glad things like this are on the list. I do wish it were a bit more focused though, it could be 35-40 minutes in total I'd imagine. Drop perhaps 1/3rd of the tracks. Kid Rock is worse.

I lack the mental model to adequately appreciate industrial music like this. Really good music can give you chills. The use of feedback, dissonance, and strange timbre also gives me chills. It’s more similar to chills from nails on a chalkboard though, but not in a bad way? I doubt that this is the level that Einstürzende Neubauten wanted me to appreciate the music on. But in terms of magnitude of physiological response, it’s way up there. A little long though.

Two days in a row I’ve had noise come up in this list. Yesterday it was Napalm Death’s “Scum”. That was previously the worst rated album on this list….until this album took the honor from them. Both are horrible and feature screaming rather than singing. Napalm Death at least had amazing drums and guitars and I gave it a two star rating. This album has zero going for it. When I heard they did of cover of Moi non plus I was intrigued…. Briefly. It was barely recognizable, but still I would consider it to be the highlight of this album. 1.5/5

I had this girlfriend at uni who was an intense Greek cellist who listened to Einsterzenden Neubauten. Or maybe it was the German's who came for some kind of summer language school when I stayed behind and worked in the halls of residence. In any case I got this on cassette in the late nineties and found it completely unlistenable then, even as a teenager with a modicum of angst and a recent B grade in GCSE German. I imagine watching Fritz Lang's film Metropolis is just as tedious and is also only done by art students who want to show off how clever they are.

this is frustrating stuff. they've got the sounds, they've clearly got some sort of ethos/attitude, but they don't have anything close to a song. a bit of a hook or something resembling a purpose for each track is completely missing. so it ends up sounding like something you'd stumble across in an art gallery or museum that you just clearly aren't arty enough to understand.
Where are the tunes though?

It's completely in German and I have no idea what they are saying. It is certainly eccentric as it is just random noises. There was no song that I would really consider revisiting. It is certainly not the worst album on the list but it is up there.

I would say that this one of those albums that most people will take a view on about two minutes in. And they'd be basically right. I saw them live twice in the mid-eighties, two of the most extra-ordinary gigs I've been to. At The Hacienda they started drilling into the walls, in Paris they had a concrete mixer which they emptied over the audience at the end of the set. But is it music? Possibly only tangentially. it's there with Metal Machine Music, Weld and another great unlistenable albums. Top cover of J'Taime mind, but no-one can give this more than two stars surely.

Is there tab for this? Seriously though, this is just noise and yelling to me. It actually put me in a bad mood listening to it. The only use I can imagine for it is a soundtrack to a sci-fi snuff film. I actually listened to it at 2x speed for a bit and it didn't sound any different.
Rough, raw, assault on the ears that is at times truly painful, and others, haunting. The early tracks on the album were not enjoyable. At all. Track 6, Schmerzen hören, features the repeated line: "Hören mit Schmerzen" which apparently translates to "Listening to pain," which I think accurately summed up the first few tracks. However, there is a semblance of music to be found in Kollaps. The later tracks on the album, such as Jet'm(which is apparently a cover of a different song) and the title track Kollaps, actually create something closer to what I would traditionally call a song as opposed to the grating noise featured elsewhere in the album. Other later tracks, such as "Sehnsucht" produced a more "spooky" and haunting sound that I actually rather enjoyed. I think it is important to note that the original release of this album ended at "Helga" originally, and would only feature a live version of track 3 "Negative Nein" appended to some CD versions. A 2002 re-release of the album appended on a bunch of songs from a later release "Stahldubversions." I listened to these songs as well and I found them to be much more palatable. I don't think Kollaps as an album was intended to have these tracks included, and for the purposes of my review I will be ignoring them. I would not call Kollaps an enjoyable listen, and definitely not something that one "must" listen to before they die. Some may even prefer death over the ear-destroying sounds. However, I did find some redeeming qualities and while it will not be something I re-visit, it was interesting to hear at least once. I dislike a 5 star scale as it leaves little room for nuance, but if there's any albums on this list that deserve 1 star, Kollaps has to be one of them.

I feel like calling this, "certainly something," makes me feel like a grandma whose grandson just arrived home with a pink mohawk. It's... abrasive. Noisy. But there's an energy to it. I don't feel right relegating this to my one-star graveyard, because those were albums I felt nothing for (or, in the case of Lenny Kravitz, an absolute disgust for). So I'll just stick with this and say, man, this is certainly something.
Cool just the album for me this morning T_T. Literally the next song starts with a jackhammer. This album makes me want to crawl out of my goddamn skin. Music for people to chop their ears off to. This garbage is an assault to the concept of music, and its only merit is in its contrarian attitude. The listener is subjected to a sonic waterboarding experience. The best part is when it ends.
I can see what's here, i can see that it has value in the industrial genre, but it gave me a brutal headache.

El negativisme, ruidisme, pessimisme industrial de so pesat i abrassiu que va sorgir a finals dels '70, començaments dels '80, potser els anys de més i millor efervescència musical, amb bandes com Throbbing Gristle i els aquí ressenyats. La disonància i paisatges musicals adversos que busquen l'incomoditat en l'oient, gairebé el seu rebuig. Tot això com a corrent i propòsit artístic està molt bé a priori. El problema aquí és que no hi ha pràcticament música. El disc sembla més una postura o un alegat que un treball discogràfic. El tema que dona títol deixa alguna senyal de creativitat, però poc més. Com a persona molt més orientada a la llum, a l'optimisme i la vitalitat, no només em desagrada el contingut de 'Kollaps', també rebutjo tota la seva intenció

This is the lowest rated album on this site because I guess mostly people aren't very fond of German people smashing metal plates together - who would have guessed. But halle-fucking-lujah, this is something this list needs more of. Albums that make you go "well, that was an experience and now I'm a changed man". Nobody is lying on their deathbed wishing they heard more crappy 80s post-punk or late 60s psychedelic rock. THIS is what we all deserve to be listening to as we embrace eternal oblivion. I'm giving this a high rating not only because I genuinely really love it, but also to help Kid Rock move to his rightful place as the actual worst album on this list. Look, this album is not something you listen to while you dust your living room, all right? It is an early work of industrial and drone sound to create nightmarish landscapes. There are certainly better guitarists than Blixa Bargeld on a technical level but few people in music use their instrument to create proper soundscapes like that. In that respect, he is closer to Robert Fripp and his Frippertronics than Eric Claption or Jimmy Page. Compare that with Unruh's and Einheit's percussion work you have something extraordinary.
This is not music it is noise and it's not meant to be enjoyed and you won't find it on Spotify. There are lots of other bands who I prefer over them: Nurse with wound, Coil, Zoviet France, Stockhausen and of course Throbbing Gristle. My vote is for the genre although this this album. Some tracks are more accessible- like Kollaps and Sehnsucht, others are pure noise.

'The Space Between Mr. Frear's Ears' but it takes place in a Nazi occupied war zone in the 1940s. So brutal sounding that it's actually interesting. Erratic mechanical noises, zero concept of melody, maniacal German screaming, songs ending out of nowhere. A compelling experiment in pure musical torture.
You know how people look at an art piece and say "Well you can just feel what they were feeling when they painted this. Such emotion captured" and you nod your head because its really just feces squirted jackson pollock style on canvas. This is that, the musical quivalent of poo on a wall

So this album is clearly somewhat unpopular here, given it is currently the lowest rated album on the site. I listened to it three times. I feel like the more I listened to it the more I grew to like it. Its obviously a very rough around the edges kind of album and very raw. The production is harsh and the instrumentation is grating. The vocals are filled with a strange, intense raw kind of passion. That is the highlight of the album for me. Though I have no idea what the singer is talking about, it feels relatable when going through pain (not sure if that's a good thing or not). I don't think this album is that bad, although obviously not for everyone. FAVORITE SONGS - Kollaps 3.5/5

This is not a passable album. It might belong in a modern art museum, when one is open to the strangest of art. However, presented as a music album, this is a clear "return to sender".
Dude. I didn’t like this at all. Obscure German alt rock from the early ‘80s. Musically it’s a vat of noise cascading around the German lyrics which further a lack of musicality other languages nail.
Experimental music is great, but I did not enjoy this album. I tried, and I appreciate what they have done, without ever wanting to listen to it ever again.
Way too experimental for me. Cool to incorporate random industrial sounds, but this is just noise to me. Can't imagine ever going back to listen again to any of it.
the sound design of this really swung for the fences, bringing in a lot of found objects, literal industrial machinery etc, which did admittedly grate at times (grew up next to neighbors that liked to bring out leaf blowers at 7AM, fuck off suburbs). idk, this definitely wasn't my favorite thing by a long shot, but the rest of you goons deciding this is your literal collective least favorite thing in the archive is really uncalled for, considering some of the dreck that's in this list.
I want - nay, demand - somebody to explain to me why this is something I should listen to before I die. I don't have a sudden appreciation for some random German guys recreating Stomp in a metal shop. This didn't unlock some revelation about my mortality or station in life. I'm not a more well-rounded person. I'm just annoyed and angry about the wasted time.
I don't think it's necessary to understand German to like or dislike this. I mean, I've grooved to Magma, and that's sung in an alien language. But I can say that this? Not digging it. I get the point of the songs and such, the punk mystique, but it feels too much like a do it yourself mentality. Can't find a recording studio? We'll record this in an abandoned factory. That's the punk mentality. Ooooo, what a stark vision. Yes! Really, it just sounds like a lot of noise. There has to be a beat somewhere. A groove. It's more crappy beat poetry than punk. It was short, at least. But.... nope.
Tough listen from the get go - the sound is so abrasive. But this IS industrial music - metal clanging and power saws. The sound in Tanz Debil reminded me of Starfuckers Inc., which is a NiN track I love. So it's not all bad, and what they inspired can reach great heights. It is one of a kind, so I completely understand why it is included on this list. But it was torture at times to listen to. Mostly I wanted to turn it off, but I did find myself strangely intrigued by what they might do next.
Hey kids, ever wonder why the call it industrial music? Man, this album is brutal. I enjoyed some of it as a one-time listen, but I couldn’t see myself playing it often, except perhaps to drive out houseguest that I think have stayed too long. This is more noise-focused and percussive than the industrial music that I am a fan of, but I can hear this band’s influence in a lot of the music that I love. The percussive rhythm of the first track, “Tanz Debil”, made me think of the guitar in King Crimson’s “Larks’ Tongues in Apsic Pt II”. I see that this band is still around and am actually curious to hear how their sound has changed since 1981. As easy as it is to dismiss this as just useless noise, it is experimental music like this that keeps music fresh and motivates new generations of musicians to add certain sounds to their own. I give it a 3 just for sounding like nothing else in 1981.
Noise. Awful. Why is this even on this list? Should be towards the top of the worst albums of all times.

Best Song: None. Worst Song: All. Overall: The Wikipedia page credits one of the musicians for "noises". This album has to be an abstract art piece, not actually intended to be listened to. This is anti-music. The sounds contained herein appear to have been carefully curated to be as obnoxious, abrasive, and a-musical as possible. It is the senseless but intentional bucking of trends and norms - not to prove some interesting or intelligent point - but just to seem interesting by being contrary. This is low effort trash. My day is worse for having listened to this. The only positive is that I think I now appreciate all other music more for at least having the fucking courage to earnestly try.

What the fuck
KOLLAPS I always forget I like industrial, because I will say things like, "This music is just monotonous yelling and jarring noises; I don't like it." But then I do like it when it's dark+spooky yelling and machine noises. I thought it was very cool. Though I listened to the whole 56-minute album twice, I can't pick a favourite because it was all German singing/talking and dark, driving music with some whirring and clanking. There were some songs with no vocals or very limited vocals that I liked.

Very much not my thing but nonetheless interesting
Today I got the luck of listening to the lowest rated album on this list, coming in at a whopping 1.87! Einsturzende Neubauten is an industrial/electronica band from Germany. They are big on "found sound", meaning they will make "music" out of whatever they come across (water bubbling/blenders/drills/breaking glass/plumbing piping... Any assortment of garbage). Taken from Spotify's bio on the band: "their early activities included a seemingly inexplicable half naked appearance on the Berlin Autobahn, where the duo spent some time beating on the sides of a hole in an overpass". These guys were wild. If nothing else, the stories of the band shenanigans is deserving of a star! Apparently they were big showmen, dressing in costume, using props, and shooting fire/assorted garbage at the audience of their shows. Also, they were pioneers of "crowd-funding", which has allowed their dedicated fans to help pay for a few of their records! The first 4-5 songs are horrid, but then it settles down into what will be the rest of the record (less abrasive noise with less shouting). I can see how many people couldn't make it through the first bit of the record and just wrote it off at that time, but power through it, because it gets "better" on the back end. At the start of the record, the "singing" sounds like exerpts from Hitler's hate speeches (shouting while very close to the mic). Later on, it was just random, nonsensical lyrics, and the last 5-6 songs are fully instrumental. Overall, an interesting listen today. This is absolutely terrible, but the antics of the band, along with my ability to see what they were driving at and what they influenced allows me to look past the awful noise I heard. I will never go back and listen again, but I still feel this is better than a 1 star album for those reasons. Also, this isn't as bad as that utter trash that Pere Ubu called music a few days ago. i mean i still have a fondness for unbridled creativity but in retrospect so much of the "avant-garde" is just one ugly thing after another

Actually kinda vibed with this one. My receptiveness would definitely depend on my mood at the time, but yesterday I was in the zone for something a little different and this delivered. Interesting to see the raw, unfiltered emergence of some industrial textures that still define the genre today and listen to some semi-improvisational discovery along the way. Not every experiment lands, but kudos to these guys for pushing the envelope a little.
My favourite review of this was 'if you have a headache and would like to worsen it, this album is perfect for you'

If I was being charitable I could say that these creepy soundscapes and industrial rhythms helped lay the groundwork for Burial, Nine Inch Nails and others to build upon, or that the extreme experimentation and complete disregard for pleasant sounds is way more punk than anything else on this list. I could also say that this album would make an ideal soundtrack to a horror film, or horror video game, or horrifying mental breakdown. But I can't in all conscience call it good music. 1.5
This album was certainly interesting in a "German guy is yelling at me while hitting pots and pans" kind of way. With titles like "Schmerzen Hören," at least you knew this wasn't gonna be Easy Listening. The title track was quite long, but I got through it smiling as I imagined it as a karaoke choice. I would enjoy that. I was intrigued and engaged, and I appreciated the experience as an exploration of sound, and that's how I rated it. The question of whether I "liked" it or not seems irrelevant.
This took an extra day for me to get through. It wasn't because I found it too difficult to listen to...I just found it too difficult to find an appropriate place in my day to listen. I thought about listening while doing some home remodel demo, but I was afraid that it might all just blend together with the demo sounds. Later, as I tried to listen, I found myself nodding off, so I guess I found it somewhat soothing... It was interesting (when I made it through while awake) at the very least!
I've got no hope of being neutral about Einstürzende. They're one of my husband's favorites. I hear them whether I like it or not. So I might as well find reasons to like them. This album's noisy and rather unpleasant, but it's not chaotic, not just loud noodling and screaming. I couldn't tell you what their intention is, but I can tell they've got one. It's hard to tell from this album but there are songs on later albums where Blixa's voice is actually soothing. On Kollaps, we only hear the stuff of nightmares. Still, this is different! I would much rather listen to something that disturbs me with noise than to something that disturbs me with boredom. So, thumbs up!
This was another album I listened to on a plane ride. I didn’t enjoy this much. Lots of yelling and clanging. Maybe some other time I’d enjoy this more. But today I was just wanted them to quiet down.
Screaming and shouting in German over improvised annoying sounds. Am I old or just discerning?
The recording quality of early Norwegian black metal but with an attempt to play punk with items found in a hardware store. It's very noisy with a jarring dissonance.
By turns disturbing, charming, thought-provoking and both musical and non-musical - often simultaneously. Ground-breaking at the time and still relevant.
Perhaps the worst album I’ve ever listened to all the way through.
This noisy assault had me glued to the listen for at least half the album, then became a bit tiring. This is at times incredibly raw and dark, but also humorous in its audacity. Definitely unique and for a record created to be the “most unlistenable album ever”, Ein came pretty close. Actually, there was enough rhythm and beat to keep me listening. I’ve had much harder times listening to more conventional albums I just didn’t like. I suppose ‘unlistenable’ is very subjective.
