Reviews (page 5 of 8)

Another one I couldn't finish. It gets a 2, cause I've heard worse.

Not my jam but enjoyed the rhythms on track 2, and I do have respect for making music out of harsh sounds such as these. It is a bit too minimal and raw for me to connect with properly. 4/10

Where are the tunes though?

I would say that this one of those albums that most people will take a view on about two minutes in. And they'd be basically right. I saw them live twice in the mid-eighties, two of the most extra-ordinary gigs I've been to. At The Hacienda they started drilling into the walls, in Paris they had a concrete mixer which they emptied over the audience at the end of the set. But is it music? Possibly only tangentially. it's there with Metal Machine Music, Weld and another great unlistenable albums. Top cover of J'Taime mind, but no-one can give this more than two stars surely.

I feel like calling this, "certainly something," makes me feel like a grandma whose grandson just arrived home with a pink mohawk. It's... abrasive. Noisy. But there's an energy to it. I don't feel right relegating this to my one-star graveyard, because those were albums I felt nothing for (or, in the case of Lenny Kravitz, an absolute disgust for). So I'll just stick with this and say, man, this is certainly something.

I can see what's here, i can see that it has value in the industrial genre, but it gave me a brutal headache.

There is nothing to be gained from listening to this album

This grew on me. I kind of get it. Very modern art esque

Not as bad as the ratings would have you believe, but a challenging listen.

Trash.

This is not for me.

2 stars

Industrial art noise, really not my thing

I just ... didn't quite get it. I wanted to understand it better. Did this lead to Rammstein or something? At the end of the album it was hard to hear more than industrial banging and German yelling. Barely 2 star.

Angry German hits saucepan with spoon.

Experimental music is great, but I did not enjoy this album. I tried, and I appreciate what they have done, without ever wanting to listen to it ever again.

Tough listen from the get go - the sound is so abrasive. But this IS industrial music - metal clanging and power saws. The sound in Tanz Debil reminded me of Starfuckers Inc., which is a NiN track I love. So it's not all bad, and what they inspired can reach great heights. It is one of a kind, so I completely understand why it is included on this list. But it was torture at times to listen to. Mostly I wanted to turn it off, but I did find myself strangely intrigued by what they might do next.

Today I got the luck of listening to the lowest rated album on this list, coming in at a whopping 1.87! Einsturzende Neubauten is an industrial/electronica band from Germany. They are big on "found sound", meaning they will make "music" out of whatever they come across (water bubbling/blenders/drills/breaking glass/plumbing piping... Any assortment of garbage). Taken from Spotify's bio on the band: "their early activities included a seemingly inexplicable half naked appearance on the Berlin Autobahn, where the duo spent some time beating on the sides of a hole in an overpass". These guys were wild. If nothing else, the stories of the band shenanigans is deserving of a star! Apparently they were big showmen, dressing in costume, using props, and shooting fire/assorted garbage at the audience of their shows. Also, they were pioneers of "crowd-funding", which has allowed their dedicated fans to help pay for a few of their records! The first 4-5 songs are horrid, but then it settles down into what will be the rest of the record (less abrasive noise with less shouting). I can see how many people couldn't make it through the first bit of the record and just wrote it off at that time, but power through it, because it gets "better" on the back end. At the start of the record, the "singing" sounds like exerpts from Hitler's hate speeches (shouting while very close to the mic). Later on, it was just random, nonsensical lyrics, and the last 5-6 songs are fully instrumental. Overall, an interesting listen today. This is absolutely terrible, but the antics of the band, along with my ability to see what they were driving at and what they influenced allows me to look past the awful noise I heard. I will never go back and listen again, but I still feel this is better than a 1 star album for those reasons. Also, this isn't as bad as that utter trash that Pere Ubu called music a few days ago. Favourite songs: Kollaps, Draussen ist Feindlich, Rohrbombe Least favourite songs: Steh auf Berlin, Tanz Debil, Negativ Nein, U-Haft-Muzak 2/5

Not bad for an arthouse record, but its still and arthouse record

My favourite review of this was 'if you have a headache and would like to worsen it, this album is perfect for you'

Oy. I like some weird stuff, but this is really pushing the limits.

I thought, that that would be the first album that I wouldn't listen to it whole. But it was easier than some that I already did.

2.5 It was better than expected. Never heard of them or listened to anything quite like it before. I'd listen to it again, but not sure it is something I would listen to regularly.

German factory ambiance music.

It’s discordant and absolutely horrible to listen to. But it does interest me. I don’t speak German so whilst listening I’m googling what this album is about. I wouldn’t listen again and I had to sit in discomfort to get through it all but that’s not to say that what it is trying to achieve (depictions of war and pain) is not effective

I can't believe they picked this one over Halber Mensch.

Probably the best 2 star album I’ll review.

If you're idea of a good time is listening to someone banging and pounding on chunks of metal, repeatedly over and over and over again, I have an album for you! Quite literally, this is what "real" Industrial music sounds like. This is scary shit, this is what nightmare soundtracks sound like and really is there any redeeming qualities to this "music"? I have to admit, I got used to it after a while and I did in fact listen to the whole thing which is an accomplishment because during the first track, I didn't think I could. I thought the percussion rhythms generally worked and I'm rating it higher than 1 star, because I didn't hate it, but then again there wasn't much to love.

Just too difficult for poor old me to get to grips with.

Probably the wierdest album I have ever listened to. Not the worst - that is still Nico - but very odd, with unusual instrumental choices. I had no real idea what to expect, and don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone else!

This is a hard one... it very clearly wasn't intended to be thought of as music; it's more performance art than anything. Some of it ever-so-vaguely resembles the industrial vibe that turns up in music that I really like (Ministry, Fear Factory, KMFDM etc) but that's where any real connection to music here ends. It has that "ha ha, this is fucked up" edge in the lyrics, which combines well with the utter sonic despair they're paired with and that gets it an extra point, but I am also being pretty generous there. 2/5.

2.6 - This sounds like a sample catalog for industrial music, or the soundtrack for a sub-genre of pornography you wish didn't exist.

I thought that Germany was out of the "crimes against humanity" business... + 1 star for sheer audacity, and the final few tracks which veered toward being tolerable.

How to review an album that wasn't meant to be "enjoyed"? I tried thinking of it as visiting a performance art piece (which I gather is how the band started). But even then I found it hard going, intriguing at times but never really engaging - hampered no doubt by me not understanding German (and not finding translations in the time available). All along, I'm thinking fondly of times with Simon and Jeremy (RIP), who cited this band as a key influence they wanted to bring into our band, and of course then into Kinderschmerzen. In the end, I'm going to rate it as usual: how much did I enjoy/appreciate it, and would I come back for more? Having dipped quickly into some later albums where they mixed the industrial noise with more melody, groovier rhythms, and discernable song structures, I'm sticking with my original rating: two stars, the second being due more to the memories than to the recording itself.

Ouf... bof

I sure didn't expect that! Very different kinda music, if you can call it music.

Extra star for being different and challenging, but listening while working can't deal with this.

I do get what they are doing here and I appreciate it. They’ve got a cover of a Serge Gainsbourg tune here, too, which is an excellent homage. Love the album art. Not something I’ll come back to but I absolutely understand why we need to include it on this list.

Pretty tough to listen to but it definitely has a place in music history given that it paved the way for other industrial music. A bit too experimental for me.

Some songs were definitely listenable. Others were sound collages put together. Not a very cohesive album, maybe that’s the point?

Found sounds galore! This one has me looking around the house wondering "can I make music with that?"

Pretty much endured this. I’m a generally open to the idea that I’m not getting something weird and could be brought around to appreciation but This one I thought was a load of BS.

So, just noise?

I’m sorry I actually can not do this

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I've never been made so agitated by music before. I wonder how many violent crimes have been committed that were triggered by this music.

I thought yesterday's Swiss Industrial album was bad - this was worse. I feel like someone added this one just to spite me. An hour of awful, painful noise. I try hard to listen to the whole album if possible but I had to skip most of the tracks on this for my own sanity.

In some sort of world this is the sound that made bands like Rammstein and other noise bands, but holy shit is this type of thing that makes top 1000 albums of all time simply because this garbage is made in the 80s??? I can barely survive until Jet’M and actually recognize it’s a poorly rendered rendition of another song from an album here and it really made me think just HOW bad this album is 1/5 would never recommend this to my worst enemy

Releasing this album is the second worst thing the Germans have ever done. How does this even count as music? The only rhythm comes from banging on metal bowls and pipes. However, starting a song on your industrial album with actual power tools is pretty funny, even if the rest of the album is genuine earrape. Favorite Track: Absteig and Zerfall

Honestly couldn’t get to the end. Germans are a weird people man

Unlistenable

This was absolutely horrible and may be the worst album I ever listened to. There was absolutely nothing to latch onto, no beats or anything. Just sounded like metal was getting hit together, while someone shouted at me in German. Liked Songs: Nothing

Einstürzende Neubauten walked so that Stomp could run. Music and mood are intrinsically linked. As much as I admire the vision and desire to do something different. This will never be my mood and there is plenty of industrial that followed that was decent.

Nah I am alright

I respect that they were doing something different but this was physically painful to sit through

This is an hour of industrial sound effects with very little recognizable as music. Unlistenable.

J'ai tellement détesté que j'ai pas pu écouter jusqu'au bout. Mais quel enfer! Du bruit, des cris, vraiment horrible

Gave me a headache. I say 'NEIN!!'

Absolutely awful noise

0 if I could

If this is the best that German noise music has to offer, then this isn't the album for me. What a slog. 1/10

Would've loved to be a fly on the wall for the jam session that led to this album. No desire to listen to this again aside from using it for shock value.

track 1: he sounded in pain but not more than me track 2: i wish the vacuum would suck me up too tracks 3-23: bro makes music for hannibal lector’s dinner parties

favs: u-haft-muzak kollaps vorm krieg futuristischer dub rating 0.8/5

Between this and that Krautrock album, I think German avant garde music is not for me.

Ich will kein Kunstnazi sein, aber das ist mir zu viel

I had never heard of this band before. From the artist name, I was expecting orchestral arrangements. I'm not a huge fan of orchestral arrangements, but I would have much preferred that to the experimental journey Kollaps took me on. I have seen several other users say this is the worst album on the list. That certainly can't be true, but it might be my least favorite thus far.

Waste of time

With your head on the ground and your feet in the air. Try this little album and spin it, yeah. Your head will collapse, like there's nothing in it, and you'll ask yourself: Why did I listen to this?

In the name of fuck

No this just comes out as really bad to me why would I ever listen to this type of music. It’s literally just noise and the beginning already had me so turned off. I wonder how much this will affect my algorithm or maybe it won’t at all since I skipped through so many tracks. 1/10

Industriële geluiden....

Are you serious? After 760+ consecutive days in this challenge, I thought the collections of weird noises were finally over. But apparently not...

Cada día aparece un album peor que el anterior. Este es el peor de todos hasta ahora.

?????????

As harsh and difficult as you'd expect from an industrial album, though I would argue that this is also surprisingly tuneful for what it is. There's almost a punk spirit here, as it's filled with short and spirited song as opposed to long and drawn-out ones. While the sounds are pretty cool, always layered and unique, the short song lengths makes it feel as though it jumps around too much. There are very few moments where it settles into a sound and elaborates on it; the title track is one of the few songs that luxuriates on a groove. I appreciate this from a sound design perspective, but it has few impactful moments that make full use of that sound.

Schmerzen hören triffts ganz gut

Noise is not music.

german pots and pans

This might be the worst one so far. Did not finish.

Yep. might be the worst album on the list so far.

Just because it is different or unusual, doesn't mean it needs to be listened to before you die. I am starting to wish this list was comprised of generally agreed upon "good" music rather than the most eclectic 1001 albums they could find. I mean, I can make an album of dogs barking and babies farting, but that shouldn't automatically qualify it for this list just because no one has done that before.

Not sure this belongs in the top 1001 or even 10001

Nope, I don't want this

Now I know why they call it industrial music

*insert Joe Pesceci "What The Fuck Is This Piece of Shit?" meme here* I do enjoy industrial music now and again and was pleased to see the inclusion on this list. It's not 1001 albums to enjoy, it's 1001 albums to listen to. If another industrial album comes up I will be disappointed. One is enough. 1.5 rounded down because...well...too many short tracks over a long period of time. One of the things I enjoy about ambient music is its ability to put you in a trance and there was little of that happening here.

Das ist keine Kunst, das kann weg... Unpassend aneinander gereihte Geräusche und Geschrei. Nicht wirklich etwas, was ich hören möchte. 1/5

Weird for the sake of weird is such a dated genre.

Nah not my bag.

This album was actual ass. This barely can pass as “noise”. Genuinely please don’t waste your time listening to this. Go for a walk or something. Anything but this. I regret.

This is what I imagine the Thought Police in the book 1984 would have the people listen too

611/1001 2026.05.11 🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑

first dnf. i was having a bad work day. the "equipment" did not make it better.

Uhhhh no.

This album is undoubtedly one of the worst on the list. I can understand that someone had to experiment with industrial equipment mixed with a screaming vocalist. It’s not surprising the Germans, known for their efficiency, were behind it. I’m glad that this album is done, so I never have to properly encounter it again.

What came first, German industrial noise music or Nihilism?

Absolute garbage

Jaa-a, mitähän tähänkin nyt sit sanois..

It's easy to make bad, uninspired, or bland music. It's easy to make music where the lack of talent and creativity would relegate an album to the bottom of a garage sale CD pile. It's a whole other thing to make music that puts the entire weight of a city's urban decay and soulless industry into your soul, dragging you to a purgatory that you aren't fully convinced you will escape from. I did not enjoy this album at all, but it is for sure my favorite 1 star album on this list.

I’m not sure why anyone would choose to listen to this. Just awful

Welp. Can’t really get that time back now can I?

This is terrible

My first 1/5. Completely unlistenable. Why is this here? I think only a masochist can listen to this so they can pretend to like it and say "YOU DON'T APPRECIATE REAL ART"

Esto es lo peor que escuché en mi vida me rehuso a categorizar esto como música 0/10

One of the worst things I've ever listened to in my life.

Not my favourite German album... That of course would be Immoment by Flowin' Immo et les Freaqz. I love that album. It was pretty rough getting this within a week of listening to that Throbbing Gristle album. This really wasn't any better. I'm sure there's some artistry here to appreciate, but it eludes me without listening again - which I don't really want to do.

as an austrian this sucks

*no music - just sound effects

Couldn't take it sadly

AUGHGHGH

Worst shit I’ve ever heard

Esta es la cosa mas pretenciosa que he escuchado en mi vida, no tiene sentido que esté en una lista de los mejores de la historia. Horrible, ni siquiera lo pude terminar.

absolute time waste, 1.6 if being generous

Wtf. Tried getting through it but had to give up. I think this list could be conflating weird/experimental with good. Not only the worst album of this list but truly might be the worst album I’ve listened to in my life

If I could rate 0, I would

Soul sucking. Soul crushing. Just..... why?

Stop shouting

Fucking terrible. The worst thing to ever pull, extremely stressful while in a 20 person line at Sephora under fluorescent lights. Poop from a butt.

Exécrable

This mf just put anything on this list, huh.

I understand this album’s purpose on this list, but can’t say it was a fun listen.

Not often there is German music. Experimental west-berlin punk, how very niche. I seriously doubt I'll listen to this again. The use of jackhammer is interesting.

Wildly low-fi, underground German percussive noise. The only track that resembled music was ‘Sado-Masodub.’ I had to skip through every track to get through this disaster.

WTF?? Noises.

Nope, sounds like smashing trash and yelling

I never thought I would hear something worse than MJ Cole. My sincere apologies to him because his music is like water in a desert compared to this awful noise. This damaged my hearing on the lowest volume. I think this music -if you can even call it that- I think has the ability to convert its victims because imagining hell without this playing in the background constantly is impossible and I couldn’t think a more effective way for someone to extract government secrets from me the making me listen to this longer then four seconds. I understand that some of these albums are on here because they are so different and unique that you’ll remember them on your death bed. I can promise with utmost confidence that I will one hundred percent remember the time I waisted on this album and weep knowing I threw away time I could be doing much more enjoyable things. For example swallowing glass, a root canal, open heart surgery, or murdering a family of adorable kittens in cold blood.

Another win for the deaf

So bad. Jangly banging noise and yelling.

Dog shit.

Did I try? Yes. Am I glad I tried? Yes.

This isn't music, it's art! (Not in a good way)

What the hell, It feels like I'm listening to random noise. It's veeery loud and for me very hard to listen on headphones, and definitely I can't listen to it while doing something else. It's just too disturbing. I don't like it and feel it. Maybe just not my type.

poronguita

Industrial noise-punk. It's apparently a groundbreaking and very influential album, but it's not something I enjoy listening to; in fact, I'd classify most of it as "actively unpleasant," which may be the point. Great potential for horror movie soundtracks, but it's not going on my playlist.

Eu queria dar zero, mas não tem essa opção 🥲

German industrial? In this economy?

I did not realize that I too could be an accomplished musician, worthy of international acclaim. I have produced all of these sounds at some point in time in my house and in my garage. If only I had recorded them and muttered inane things while doing so.

I tried it, I understand why it’s on here. It’s bad

That's the biggest load of rubbish I've ever heard. Take ten Aspirins straight away.

Insoportable. Discos como éste hacen que uno quiera mandar la escucha de la presente lista al carajo.

Please don't do this to me. 0 starts should be an option.

Oh dear, just oh dear. Sounded like the band went out and just recorded things happening around them like smashing stuff up, drilling stuff, shouting etc and then put some "vocals" over the top of it. Very strange, didn't really enjoy it but I can say I tried..

I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this. I did a little bit of research on the band so I know it's probably going to be a bit noisy but otherwise who knows what I'm about to hear. An interesting tidbit I did discover is that Blixa Bargeld, the lead vocalist of this band, was a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds for 20 years, and I just so happened to listen to Henry's Dream yesterday. I'm probably not going to like this as much, but that's a fun coincidence • From the first couple of tracks, this album is *loud*. Tanz Debil builds to a very loud climax and immediately Steh auf Berlin starts with a jackhammer blasting your ears out. Blixa Bargeld is also absolutely screaming into the microphone, which is peaking with every word. • I'm now up to U-Halt-Muzak and I think this is the most tempted I've been to stop listening to an album so far. This song is probably the best so far, purely because it's an instrumental, but it has almost nothing going on outside the constant kick drum and occasional ear-bleedingly loud noise • Off the bat, Kollaps is the most musical track so far. It doesn't really develop much for the rest of the song. It's probably the best song so far, but that's a pretty low bar. It's also by far the longest, so it's a bit impressive that it doesn't ever devolve into chaos like many of the other songs have. • Sehnsucht features a chord in the background that reminds me a lot of the Mother Brain boss music from Super Metroid. The main key note that plays throughout it sounds like it was played without a metronome or anything to keep it anchored to a tempo • I just finished listening to Helga, and that's where the original track list finished. I really considered calling it here, but at this point I've already listened to 35 minutes of this, I may as well see it through • Rohrbomb is definitely the most rhythmic track on the album, it's almost a shame it's not developed into something further • Futuristischer Dub sounds evil This album was unique. It's industrial in its purest form, without question. I never want to hear anything from it again. I've never been so tempted to turn an album off, and I'm actually a bit surprised I managed to make it all the way through. There's definitely a different vibe in the Stahldubversions tracks (Rohrbombe on) that works a lot better for me than the base album did, but unfortunately that's not enough to save Kollaps. From looking through the reviews, this album used to be the lowest rated on this site, an honour now held by Throbbling Gristle, another industrial group. From this listen, I can't say Kollaps was undeserving of that title. I'm sure there are less interesting albums on this list, and for some people uninteresting can be worse than bad, but clearly there's something with this album that didn't work for over half of the people that reviewed it. I think Kollaps is deserving of its place on the list, but probably not for the reasons it actually landed here. It sounds nothing like any other music I've listened to, and I appreciate its work in expanding the list's genre pool (again, I can't stress enough how unique this is compared to the first 60 albums I've heard). I will never listen to it again. Favourite track: Kollaps?

Was zum Geier istd as??

Please make it stop ....

So much noise.

Bro zici că-i muzica de satanisti ceva rituale îi foarte ciudat albumul

One of the few albums I couldn’t get through. Cool that it came out so early, that I’m sure it influenced industrial which I quite like, but this is just too much noise and not enough song for me.

If you haven't listened to this yet, it obviously isn't the worst thing Germans have ever done (it's slightly less obvious if you have listened to it), but it's the worst thing that isn't related to that particular series of people and events. Unless it is actually related to that which would somehow make sense. I will say that it's sort of ignorable in the background. I attribute this to the fact that I'm an American and the Japanese have not joined in this aural attack yet.

Extremely tough going. Tbh, i couldn't listen to it for more than a few minutes, it was just too confrontational and experimental for me. I respect it for what it's doing, but this is not for me. 1 star seems unfair, so I will rate as did not listen.

I’ve listened to 1,027 albums, every single track. But forty seconds into “Steh Auf Berlin,” I had to stop. It’s the first album I simply couldn’t continue. Trash. Deserves negative stars.

Just noise, not music

Come on

So wegweisend. So inspirierend für so viele Künstler. So experimentell. So anders. So unhörbar.

German industrial music! I am going to be so for real this is really bad study music. Very interesting! But bad study music. I think I am currently listening to a power drill?

On one hand this is a hellish soundtrack to a bizarre time in Germany. On the other hand it was one of the least enjoyable things I’ve ever listened to

Utter pish And absolute struggle

This was a hard listen. Barely music, it's industrial, mechanical, and abrasive. There's moments that are cool, like the backing of Kollaps, which doesn't really need to be 8 mins, and Jet'm. But overall, I would have difficulty recommending this to anyone in any practical scenario. As much as I try to give everything on this list a chance, my head was definitely hurting by the end of this one.

pra ouvir furadeira eu escuto a obra do meu prédio

This album isn’t for me, and I’m not convinced that it’s for anyone else either.

1981. Noise music that made my ears bleed.

Interesting and glad somebody made this cause it's art but very primitive. There needs to be some first lowest form of sounds and music. This is as good of non-music as there is I guess.

No one should ever have to listen to this. Pure dreck.

Nahhhh sorry this is a little too creative for me

I made it a 1.75 songs in and it was a valiant effort, if I do say so myself. I'm good.

Congratulations, this is the worst album on this list! I’m only a little over half way through and can say that definitively.

what the fuck????????????????????????????????????

Even I found this to be a bit much...I'm all for weird german electronic music, but I'll take Can and Neu! before this...

1 star any% wr

Listen once, skip through, never look back. If I could give this negative stars I would.

This morning I listed to the album and went to the DMV. The DMV was the more enjoyable of the two.

I can totally understand why this album is one of the most disliked projects on the entire 1001 albums to hear before you die list because this thing is out there. Arguably even moreso than the Throbbing Gristle pick that is on the list, but some will definitely not agree with that. This album feels like the ramblings of a schizophrenic man that was locked in a studio as he banged on just about everything he could to get out of the room. While this may be one of the shorter entries in the whole 1001 list, it definitely felt like one of the longest because of how bad it was. I get that you can call this "experimental" or "avant-garde" but I can also call you a snobby little shit for trying to convince me you even want to enjoy this. If you couldn't tell I thought this was a waste of my time and not something I could see myself ever really returning to ever. Happy I am done with it and I hope the people that do enjoy this seek help immediately because they are wrong.

This sounds like Martin Bormann got high as fuck on uppers, broke into a Black n Decker factory and let his rage spill out...

Noises, 0 value of music.

Absolutely not. The sounds made my brain want to stab and murder. Awful.

1/5 Deadass the funniest ear-torture I've ever been subjected to. I love the ambient neighbor waking you up at 7am with a drill noises, those were my fav. I'm sorry, I'm not enough of a music snob to appreciate this.

I mean.... come on. Is this even music?

German (pejorative). It's just noise. Unpleasant noise.

I lasted 30 seconds into the first track. Not for me.

Album 1043 of 1089 Kollaps - Einstürzende Neubauten (1981) Rating : 1 / 5 This one came about as close to a waste of my time as anything I’ve encountered during this project. I understand experimentation and I’m open to challenging listens, but this felt like electronica for electronica’s sake - noise without payoff. There was nothing here that pulled me in, nothing that made me curious to see where it was going, and nothing that rewarded sticking it out. Instead, it felt aimless and exhausting, with each track increasing my awareness of how much longer it had left to run. I know this album has historical significance for some and is admired for its industrial experimentation, but enjoyment-wise, it offered me absolutely nothing. I listened. I tried. I waited for it to click. It didn’t.

215/1001 Einstürzende Neubauten - Kollaps Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ Couldn't make it past 3 songs....

Went into this with no idea what to expect. Its a little much for me - I love experimental music, and some of the sounds were interesting. But not something I can see myself enjoying casually (or at all, I had to turn this one off).

Not good.

i like to think that i "get" this kind of music that said, this sounds pretty bad

Well, it's not boring. But also, what the absolute fuck??

Power tool ahh song

Definitely not for me.

i'm sure this was very influential but this album did actual psychic damage to me.

Wasn’t sure if noise cancelling was broken in the middle of London. Lots of scattered ‘ideas’… maybe. A tough listen at 8am.

I make one joke about the German language in my reviews and I'm rewarded with an album fully in German. Gave me a headache regardless Fave track: Schmerzen hören. Rough translation based on my A1 German level - it hurts to listen. Didn't like the track just thought the name was fitting

Listens: 1.5 Standout Tracks: I would say probably one or two tracks could constitute as "standout", but I couldn't point at them given the German song titles, and with the album being 20+ songs and almost an hour, I couldn't keep track of anything. I am pretty surprised to not see this on the bottom 20. Oh nevermind, I just looked it is there at second worst album on here. So yea, this was terrible. It barely constitutes music. I can hypothetically get on board with the idea of making music using unconventional musical instruments. I have some experience with genres like glitch hop, and I am a big fan of the industrial rock genre, but there's a huge gap in what music from those genres is representative of, and whatever... this is. And with this newish feature on the site of being able to see your next album before submitting your review, I now have the pleasure of reviewing two bottom 20 albums in a row. Next up, The Birthday Party's Junkyard.

Awful, not my type of thing at all, literally headachy, pretentious hipstery artsy punk but jesus, maybe because i don't speak German but I cannot listen to this.

jumpscare music - worst shit I’ve ever heard

Car crash underwater Blending silverware

Omg no what is this 😭 seriously the worst album I’ve ever heard in my life

Terrible, erratic, jarring noise. Hated the echo. Would not listen to again.

Angry, raw and abrassive but overall very unapologetically chaos. 6/10 [KEEP*]

Kamala.

Muito barulho de ferro velho. Deve ter uma turma que gosta, mas não me agradou.

Hard pass

This is what we fought two world wars for?

girl......... if i could give it a 0 i would.....

Barely made it though this... Two people bang trash cans together while Hitler yells at me... No fucking thank you.

I mean….I get it. It’s abrasive and noisy and all and I think the back half of the album is at the very least listenable. But those first five or so songs are genuinely unlistenable.

1 Star (2/15)

I give this zero stars, even though the app forces me to give at least one.. It isn't even music. It's just a terrible noise.

Drill sounds, and only mentally disturbed people like this.

That was.. something

This one was tough to listen to. The tracks with industrial noise were a slog, and even the actual songs were hard to want to finish. This has got to be one of the worst albums on this list. 1/5 Definitely won't listen again

Einstürzende Neubauten let me "Schmerzen hören" untill it felt like "Hirnsäge". It only took a few minutes to "Kollaps". My "Nein" for this album is really, deeply "Negativ". I'm glad I found that the original 1981 album was only 38 minutes instead of the 56 listed on spotify.

Noise. Not a good listen. If I could give this zero stars I would

construction noise I was not ready for

What the heck was that???? I can’t even call it music.

Been a while since the generator has given me an album this horrendous

Noise... deliberately made. Something cool i guess but a long way from my taste.

There's no enough words to say how much I hate this album. All I will say is torture is not entertainment.

Uh… Hell Yes, this is awful! Thank you for bringing this to my ears! This truly is an album that one should listen to before death. The low-bar in the “Alternative German, Cats-in-a-Bag ” genre has been set.

I'm not sure this album qualifies as music. So far song 1, Tanz Debil, is nothing but trash can noises and the occasional German word for "shit". Steh Auf Berlin is a drill, metal drums, and distorted radio noises. There is also a lot of just screaming in general. "Gastarbeiterdub" is by far the most interesting song as it reminds me of foundations of electronic music, but then come the drills again. It doesn't help my review is this album that I don't know German, but the album's "rough punk" sound and style of "music" isn't helping me want to understand it in any capacity.

Absolute chaos

Wouldn't really describe this as music, just noises. Got to the 4th track, declared it absolute shit. DNF.

I think this is the first one that I started and just couldn't get through.

Even speed listening 15 seconds per track didn’t save this album; again there should be the ability for a negative score rating

2/10… experimental / industrial / *1981

Walk past a german construction site with angry workers if you want to hear the live version of this album. Words cannot explain how bad this is. 1 Star is waaaay too generous.

You gotta be sure to leave room at the bottom of album lists for things like this. It's just awful. It's worse than the spy v. spy album. It's worse than the proto-industrial album. Because now it's loosely industrial, plus distorted German screaming and some literal shrieks. It is not suitable for entertainment purposes. There may have been one song towards the end of the album that sounded like music.

Not my cup of tea.

What are we even doing here...

This was annoying. 1/5

Wow, that was a long 56 minutes. Whilst these guys were pioneers in industrial/noise, it doesn’t make it any easier to listen to! Drills, clanging metallic sounds, constant screaming and yelling (in German, naturally), angle grinders and distorted electronic noises. There is some relief later in the album with the instrumental ‘dub’ pieces, which you could see as an influence of people like Trent Reznor. As a piece of art, I’d rate it highly, but as a listening experience, hard to recommend. 1/5 stars from me.

The only sledgehammer I want blasting in my headphones is Peter Gabriel’s. JFC no no no.

Unfortunately this album was very much not for me and I did not enjoy this listening experience. I can appreciate what they were trying to achieve with trying to sound more punk and experimental but it did not hit for me. It sadly just sounded like a bunch of random electronic machine sounds and banging on metal plates which was not my fantasy. I can see how this could be enjoyable for some but it did not hit the mark for me. After a while it just sounded very repetitive and just like noise instead of music to me.

Could this be any harder to listen to? I tried… I really did. This should’ve been the last album on the list because then if it killed me listening to it (which it almost did) at least I could have said I listened to all the albums I was supposed to before I died. In all seriousness, kudos to this group for being sonically experimental. It’s just that the sounds are so uncomfortable and unpleasant that any value in the experimentation is drowned out by the discordance.

I’m not even sure how to review this one. It may be the first time I didn’t listen to something all the way through. I try to make a good faith effort but I was done halfway through.

What the fuck?

This album was hard to listen to, I am not a fan of the industrial sound. I get how revolutionary it was at the time, but yikes!

German industrial clang

у меня и так болела голова, а тут еще и этот кошмар. ну спасибо

Caveman's death grips

I really dont have the words to describe this. It was noise, a lot of noise. However towards the end it didnt sound as bad. One of the tracks I nearly enjoyed. It was crap but better than some of the crap this exercise has thrown up.

Remember when Stomp was a thing? It's like they had a nervous breakdown. Or when you're a child and run at a metal fence with a stick, but the playground is haunted. I think this was music used during psychological trials to see what happens to the brain when steelworkers are given too much overtime. This really is shit. There is no other word for it. Is it meant to be art? As a side note, Taylor Swift was yesterday's pick; only here could someone listen to that and this sequentially. Spotify data analysts must be baffled.

просто пиздец музыка из ада... лоботомия... сковородкой по голове... предсмертная агония... альбом душевнобольного

i hope this is satire

What the hell is this crap? Zero stars if that was a choice.

Second lowest rated album on this challenge after the Throbbing Ghistle album. This one is very avantgarde, and industrial with unbearable shouting and custom built instruments like some metal things hitting to each other. It's a very German album in a sense that it's not fun, it's noisy and kind of scary. I understand German so it was at least a bit interesting to listen to what he was shouting. I was listening to it while there was a construction going on in the neighbour's so it felt like I was listening to this horrible noise in stereo. As a consequence I have headaches now which isn't a surprise. At least it is a tiny bit more interesting than the Throbbing Ghistle album so it deserves to be the second worst album here. Still unbearable of course.

Hör mit Schmerzen? Já, einu sinni, en það er alveg nóg fyrir mig. Þetta eru vissulega hljóð, en ekki eru þau áhugaverð.

Fav: Jet’m Least Fav: Steh Auf Berlin Typa shit James Sunderland hears when he’s fighting for his life against the monsters in Silent Hill 2

Will the construction on this street ever end?!?!?!? I'm sick of this noise :'-(

Tough listen. Was unable to make it through it.

Nowhere does it say the albums necessarily have to contain music. This album does not contain music, it contains almost 40 minutes of an angry German man shouting on a particularly noisy building site. Call me old fashioned, but I'm just here for the music. If you like this kind of thing, then more power to you, but personally I find it all phenomenally juvenile and uninteresting.

Collapsing scaffolding just isn't my ASMR kink.

This was hot

What the... I listened to as much as I needed, which is enough to say I'm glad I never heard of Einstürzende Neubauten before today, and I'll never hear them again. I don't mind _some_ Lärmmusik, but not as much as these guys do. I recognize their right to label this as music, and encourage everyone to at least try to make music, but I cannot promise to listen. 1 star for the effort.

I keep having to say this about albums included on this list. Making random noises with things is not avant garde music making, it is noise. If you can take those random sounds and make them into something that sounds like anything other than random noise then you may have made music. Until then keep it out of my ears.

It's weird, I am a famous enjoyer of industrial music/songs where European men scream at me, but this just aggressively did not do it for me. Maybe it'd be better with more of a melody? Or possibly I'm just not their audience.

This hurt to listen to, there's something thoroughly unsatisfying about the texture of this album at points. I swear anybody who rates this positively is just being a contrarian for the sake of it - and that's the only album on the list I'll say that for.

Somehow, this was not as bad as Throbbing Gristle. Maybe because there's at least a beat on many of these tracks? I mean, no sane person is ever spinning this album up for background music while working or jogging or hanging out with friends, and I don't think any sane person genuinely thinks this is pleasant to listen to, but I at least understand how some people could find this interesting. It's creative, unlike anything else, gave some weirdos ideas for sound effects in later works, and there was some amount of skill involved. All that said: no thank you. This was hard to listen to. I appreciate that these weirdos found new ways to make weird sounds, but in no way was this enjoyable. Part of me wanted to make it through the whole thing so I could give it a 2, but I'm not that much of a masochist. I made it through most of 15 tracks and that was enough of a headache for me.

Scheiße

Umm. This is music?

Weniger als 1 stern geht ja nicht, mir gefällt eigentlich nur Tabula Rasa

Worst music ive ever heard

This could be used as torture for your enemies.

That's not my taste in music - music? - uaaah

I was waiting for this to get good and it never happened

Not for me

Not for me, not much music in there, more samples of noises (like banging pans, blenders, jackhammers) and german language. Couldn't pick out any melody or rhythm anywhere a bit too experimental for me

I'm pretty open minded when it comes to music, but this was virtually unlistenable. There was no discernable melody throughout the entire album, just...noises. Sounded like a Hitler rally over heavy, repetitive drum banging and random sounds (drills, metal clangs). Not one track actually sounded like a song in any sense. I had Coldplay yesterday (who I'm not a fan of) and I'd take a thousand Coldplay over this. If I could rate 0 stars I would.

I don’t get it. The music feels like what you would get it you let kids play with the things they find in a Home Depot. With German sung/spoken over it.

This is sounds, not music.

Just noise for the sake of noise. I'd rather go yell at clouds

A jackhammer, in fact, is not a musical instrument

what the fuck is this

what the hell

I really wish this one didn't come in my ears. Absolutely horrendous, discordant rubbish.

I tried to find some redeeming features, I really did. There were moments where I thought I understood it, the beat of industrial machinery. And then I'd be out of it again. I think I could probably listen to a single track and get along ok with it, but a whole album is hard going. I think the only reason I'd revisit this album is to annoy someone else.
