Ærlig talt ikke så slemt som jeg havde frygtet. Dog er der mange ideer som bare lige mangler at blive trumfet igennem før det virker 100%. De tyske tekster gør det lidt svært at følge med, men den industrielle stemning er fantastisk!

I'm fully in favor of everyone listening to the music they enjoy, and if you enjoy this, we can still be friends, maybe. But I also believe if I ever made a playlist with songs from this record on it, I'd have a lot fewer friends, and I already don't have many. Therefore I cannot like this album.

I think this might make me reevaluate how I rate these albums. There have been several that give me basically no reaction, and I gave them 2 or 3. This definitely got a reaction, but not a good one, and for that it gets a 2. The forgetable albums will probably start getting 1s. I don't want to finish this, but it's a bit like watching a trainwreck where I'm not sure I can not look. Is it better if I did speak German or does the unknown yelling add to the atmosphere? Note: I tapped out in the middle of the 8th/Title track.

Meh, whatever. Generically percussive and shouty. Some of it is okay, and I like the silliness of "Futuristischer Dub," but overall... not great.

Mwah, EN has been some pretty great records right after their debut, Halber Mench comes in mind, which is so much better. l very much like their overall sound, but on this record I do not care about the "songs" and hate the shrieking guitar noise, which prevents one from turning the volume up (a necessity for this type of music).

Y'know, I don't have much a defense against this thing being one of the lowest rated albums on the website. Like, yeah, I'm not gonna blame aggregate taste for putting it down here; sonically speaking, it's for sure the absolute hardest album I've heard yet to get into. But I don't think it's **as bad** as its status would imply? For one, I expecting it be nothing but noise: no melody, just clattering and shreiking for the sake of it under the excuse of it being "experimental." But there actually **is**, however, composition, and some kind of melody line to latch onto. It's an incredibly **unusual** melody line to most ears, but it's still **there**. It's not completely thoughtless and thrown together like I'd've otherwise assumed. Then there's the second factor here, and that's the fact that it absolutely belongs here on this list. Like, there's two things I personally want out of this list: albums generally considered the greatest of all time (RS500-core), and interesting shit from around the world. This **absolutely** scratches latter. Believe me, chances are more than likely you're not gonna come out of this album liking it, but I garuntee you you've never heard anything like it before, and you'll be all the better for it. I mean, seriously, I can't tell you how many American and British albums my group's listened to that're flat 3 and I've gained nothing whatsoever from them. "That's sure **this** genre," "that's sure **that** genre," etc. I want more stuff like CLUBE DE ESQUINA, CALL OF THE VALLEY, RUM SODOMY & THE LASH, ZOMBIE—and, yes, this. Random, obscure 80's New Wave or post-punk albums won't broaden your horizons. But this will. It's absolutely worth at least one run-through. And at any rate, **this** is the lowest rated album on the whole website and not **Kid Rock**? The heck are we doin' here, people? Goodness me.

While of course influential to the industrial genre popularized by Nine Inch Nails, to be honest, the tracks at the beginning where it's basically just a pure noise record were really making me consider giving this a 1, but thankfully it picked up in the more digestible second half. I'd give 3.5 but that first half is such a pain on the ears that I'm going down to 2.5 bumped down to 2.

There were few points on this album which were listenable. I thought the title track was good but apart from that it was genuinely atrocious.

This is for sure going to be the hardest one for me to rate. While the music itself is horrible, it does get to me somehow - more so than a lot of other albums I’ve rated low on this website. It’s certainly 56 minutes that makes you question what we mean when we say music is ‘good’.

I’m not opposed to noise based music but there’s gotta be something more to it. This felt like the band heard Black Angels Death Song and scrubbed it of any melody and just recorded it over and over again. At least the songs were short.

I think i have a good idea of who to call for a soundtrack if i'm filming (a) a transylvania based blair witch trial, (b) a dark horrow version of Run Lola Run or (c) an artsy Nazi snuff film. I loved the fact that the liner notes attribute a contribution of "noises" on the album. It's decent at times, Kollaps is pretty good, but its a bit of a tough listen and not sure how it would fit into something you want to listen to multiple times. Interesting to experience.

Does sound like Hitler and his boys hitting the local hardware store. Could see it working as music for a film or something. Not very enjoyable but 2 stars for uniqueness.

This is terrible but in a good way and after Nick freaking Cave this is actually awesome. Obviously influential to the industrial music that comes after.

Come for the can-banging, stay for the drills! This was different, I'll give it that. Some of the sounds were genuinely unpleasant to listen to, as in ear pain. But I sorta, maybe enjoyed some of the -dubs at the end of the album. With all that said, though. I think 2 is the best I could do. If I could pick and choose tracks, maybe I could get to 3. But that's not the world we live in. We must listen to these albums. In their entirety.

The wild industrial percussion is definitely the highlight here for me. I love when bands use found objects for percussion. I can see the influence on other later industrial that I love like Nine Inch Nails. The vocals are a bit grating though.

German industrial? On my birthday ;) Can a guy be so lucky The lead singer was also in the Bad Seeds for two decades, which makes this inclusion a lot less surprising. The book entry also draws direct comparisons to Throbbing Gristle & Faust, fellow "sonic terrorists" that I've already come across thanks to this list. This is definitely the least musical of the bunch, and therefore is not popular on this website, to say the least. The consensus seems to be that Kollaps is a bunch of freaks banging on pots and pans, but that's not ENTIRELY accurate in my eyes. The ritualistic proceedings of many of the tracks carry a sense of dread, as though they're the opening ceremonies to something awful and unspeakable. The low-quality recordings and abrupt ends to the tracks further add to the wrongness of this album, like it was never meant to be released. The cherry on top is the album cover on Apple Music; it's slightly crumpled, like a hasty photocopy of a used record sleeve. I definitely hört with schmerzen, but I didn’t hate it. 2.5 HL: "Tanz Debil", "Steh Auf Berlin", title track

Abrasive and chaotic. Albeit intriguing, kind of like an ode to musics earliest iteration of sound creation by banging sonic plates and drums. No defined meter, or beat not even utilizing western music scales. Very semitonal as well. Its cool on paper, listening was hard, appreciating it is also difficult. But I wont give it the worst rating.

Easily the second worst thing Germany has ever done.

Look it's not particularly good and I thought it was going to be more interesting given this is the lowest rated album on this entire list. It incorporates different sounds and certainly has some interesting passages, but there are also quite a few songs on here which are genuinely boring, with the only point of interest being power tools being looped or some shit like that, which doesn't actually make for exciting music. Whilst I haven't listened to their whole discography they certainly have better albums Light 2.5

Very poor in quality

From this day forward, I'll probably have a little laugh to myself whenever I see a construction site. I'll imagine the workers making weird, deranged music like this with their hammers and drills. Before pressing play I knew that there was only a 0.0003% chance that I would enjoy this record, and safe to say I didn't like it at all. This is not music, this is noise - then again, that was the intent anyway. I pretty much hated this, but maybe my ears are slowly opening up to the fact that this music does exist. And some people are legitimately fond of it. I am not one of those people. But you know what? Respect. It's completely unlistenable to me but I see the appeal better than I do electronica, grindcore (hello, Napalm Death's Scum), or avant-garde jazz (hello, John Zorn's Spy vs. Spy).

The novelty of this album and the 1981 timestamp it bears is not lost on me. It's certainly unlike anything I've ever heard from that era. It's just not my cup o'tea.

I'm all fine with crafting a noisy and disturbing product, but the industrial aspect was taking place too much over having a dark and scary mood. Not for me.

can a band be groundbreaking, influential and ahead of their time while also be borderline unlistenable? ladies and gentlemen, i present to you einstürzende neubauten. much of the “music” contained within is just a series of rhythmically paced machine sounds with primitive sounding guitars, synths, and drums. oh, and there’s aggressive sounding german peppered throughout (much of the album is instrumental). definitely influenced bands such as nine inch nails, ministry and rammstein, however this album just wasn’t very good.

What a terrible 365th album

This is the lowest rated album on this site and frankly I’m not too surprised. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the worst thing I’ve come across in this project, but it is nearly unlistenable at times. There were a couple of tracks that were ok, but also just a lot of drilling - also what is up with that Serge Gainsbourg cover?

Better than Throbbing Gristle. Maybe not as good as trout mask replica. But definitely interesting, im scared to say it... but im fairly certain i enjoy it could never see myself buying this on vinyl ever tho. Definitely some songs remind me of "This Heat"

Kollaps is the first official LP/album from the German experimental music group Einstürzende Neubauten. This noise rock / industrial album has undertones of punk tracks and became popular for its shocking use of electronics, machines, and everyday bits of metal within the music. Although Kollaps can be jarring at times, one has to appreciate the creativity that went in to making the album. I may not listen to this again, but it was quite the ride while it lasted.

It's interesting but I'm never listening to it again

Ok, so this is the lowest rated album on the list and somehow I was able to listen to the whole thing. Granted, I said WHAT THE FUCK out loud multiple times. It's filled with tracks of just noises. Like entire tracks of just a drum being repeatedly hit which seemed odd. I don't understand why it's on this list and I never want to listen to it again, but it wasn't THAT bad. There are plenty of other albums on this list that are more musical but absolutely intolerable to listen to.

Industrial rock with all the harsh sounds of power tools and whatever else could be found. The punk rock influences make it better than you would expect if you don't like industrial music.

Well that was interesting. I almost considered adding a few songs at the end to my playlist. I found myself turning the beginning of the album down.

Well, that was certainly interesting. Not enjoyable at all, but interesting. I was told by Wikipedia that, "The songs are a mixture of rough punk tunes as well as industrial noises..." I was waiting for the punk part of the equation but I never really heard it. 2 stars for the effort.

This is a journey into sound. A journey with no goal in mind, wearing a blindfold, and someone forgot to clean up the junk all over the floor for the past few decades. I wish I could say this was influential or ahead of its time. But it wasn't. Throbbing Gristle already figured their shit out by their 3rd album in 1979. The 2nd star is for creativity and short track lengths. Each track is pretty basic, barely diverging from the first few seconds, but at least the short lengths means there's quite a lot to explore. Not much to get out of it though, so I don't see a point besides maybe hearing a few cool tricks that could actually be useful in a real song. Favorites: Tanz Debil, Jet'm, Kollaps, Sado-Masodub, Rivieradub

i truly don't think this deserves to be the lowest-rated album on the entire 1001 albums list. i mean i GET why people aren't going to like it on the surface level but it was definitely unique. some of it sounded like german nine inch nails, while other tracks sounded like someone falling down thirty flights of stairs with their entire drum kit falling after them. either way, it's better than the ninth neil young album on this list. let's do our part to make sure kid rock and his sleazeball ilk fall to the bottom position on this list, yeah? favorites: tanz debil, jet'm, kollaps

Oh no no no no, the infamous lowest rated album on the list. I had a pretentious phase back in school, listened to Merzbow and such. That revision of me would've learned to love this. It also likely would've learned to love River of Fundament, had it known about it. Honestly, it gets significantly better starting from the title song. Wouldn't have dissed my past self if songs before Kollaps didn't exist

Run from it, hide from it, deny it, it comes all the same... If this Einsturzende Neubauten album is truly one of the 1001 you have to listen to before you die, its probably best to make it your last. It's a full on sensory assault. An harsh dose of unadulterated, raw, violent, uncut sonic sodomy, from the first sound of a sledgehammer wrapped barb wire smashing your into your face to the death rattle of the rusty power drill that's being used to perform trepanation in order to release the pressure that's built up in your brain over the interminable 38 minutes required to listen to this magnum opus of German industrial revolution. Now it would be easy, too easy, to preread the reviews and decide that a 1 is all that's required and move on with your day, but stop and appreciate the chaos, even if only for a few fleeting seconds. Maybe you'll appreciate the nuance of future industrial tools usage like Lee Ranaldo using power tools at the start of Sonic Youth's The Burning Spear....

This currently has the lowest global rating of any album on the list, so I was expecting something spectacularly unlistenable. I was disappointed. Although it basically comprises banging and clattering sounds from an industrial sheet metal factory, they are quite listenable banging and clattering sounds from a somewhat melodic sheet metal factory. Yes, it's challenging and, no, it may not be music, but there are far, far worse records on the list than this one (looking at you, Throbbing Gristle, Butthole Surfters, The Shaman, 50 Cent, and The Mothers Of Invention). You’ll Instantaneously hear core roots of the industrial sound. The synth pop sound with heavy metal. Obvious influencers to bands such as nine inch nails, Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills and Ramstein. This album definitely flows from one track to the next but if you aren’t a fan of industrial, you may find yourself asking “WTH is this?” Definitely not for everyone, but because this band helped the movement of industrial music, it’s pretty cool to hear how it started and evolved. 2

Another noise album Hard to find any musical merit in this one, sounds like teenagers in a garage playing with Dad's instruments.

Is it safe?

Defiantly doing their own thing, felt more like something you might hear at a contemporary art exhibit featuring pictures of emaciated people in stasi west berlin prisons and buckets of piss and shit around to give the full aroma of this Dadaist fever dream.

This was my first industrial rock album and after listening to this, I don't think anything could be described as more industrial. I felt like I was working in an iron mill in Germany in the 1980's. I would not want to be there then, and I don't want to be there now. Was it worth a listen? Maybe on a technicality but I would never choose to listen to this again unless I wanted to punish another person. Stand out track: U-Haft-Muzak

Not my jam but enjoyed the rhythms on track 2, and I do have respect for making music out of harsh sounds such as these. It is a bit too minimal and raw for me to connect with properly. 4/10

Where are the tunes though?

I would say that this one of those albums that most people will take a view on about two minutes in. And they'd be basically right. I saw them live twice in the mid-eighties, two of the most extra-ordinary gigs I've been to. At The Hacienda they started drilling into the walls, in Paris they had a concrete mixer which they emptied over the audience at the end of the set. But is it music? Possibly only tangentially. it's there with Metal Machine Music, Weld and another great unlistenable albums. Top cover of J'Taime mind, but no-one can give this more than two stars surely.

I feel like calling this, "certainly something," makes me feel like a grandma whose grandson just arrived home with a pink mohawk. It's... abrasive. Noisy. But there's an energy to it. I don't feel right relegating this to my one-star graveyard, because those were albums I felt nothing for (or, in the case of Lenny Kravitz, an absolute disgust for). So I'll just stick with this and say, man, this is certainly something.

I can see what's here, i can see that it has value in the industrial genre, but it gave me a brutal headache.

El peor calificado de la lista, pero no es el peor de la lista. Siempre he dicho que prefiero que un álbum sea único y arriesgado antes que aburrido, y esta no es la excepción. Tampoco voy a decir que me encantó o que lo voy a seguir escuchando, porque no lo haré, pero incluso siendo "simples sonidos industriales sin más", prefiero eso antes que la misma basura genérica que le gusta a todos solo porque a todos les gusta.

Industrial art noise, really not my thing

I just ... didn't quite get it. I wanted to understand it better. Did this lead to Rammstein or something? At the end of the album it was hard to hear more than industrial banging and German yelling. Barely 2 star.

Experimental music is great, but I did not enjoy this album. I tried, and I appreciate what they have done, without ever wanting to listen to it ever again.

Tough listen from the get go - the sound is so abrasive. But this IS industrial music - metal clanging and power saws. The sound in Tanz Debil reminded me of Starfuckers Inc., which is a NiN track I love. So it's not all bad, and what they inspired can reach great heights. It is one of a kind, so I completely understand why it is included on this list. But it was torture at times to listen to. Mostly I wanted to turn it off, but I did find myself strangely intrigued by what they might do next.

Today I got the luck of listening to the lowest rated album on this list, coming in at a whopping 1.87! Einsturzende Neubauten is an industrial/electronica band from Germany. They are big on "found sound", meaning they will make "music" out of whatever they come across (water bubbling/blenders/drills/breaking glass/plumbing piping... Any assortment of garbage). Taken from Spotify's bio on the band: "their early activities included a seemingly inexplicable half naked appearance on the Berlin Autobahn, where the duo spent some time beating on the sides of a hole in an overpass". These guys were wild. If nothing else, the stories of the band shenanigans is deserving of a star! Apparently they were big showmen, dressing in costume, using props, and shooting fire/assorted garbage at the audience of their shows. Also, they were pioneers of "crowd-funding", which has allowed their dedicated fans to help pay for a few of their records! The first 4-5 songs are horrid, but then it settles down into what will be the rest of the record (less abrasive noise with less shouting). I can see how many people couldn't make it through the first bit of the record and just wrote it off at that time, but power through it, because it gets "better" on the back end. At the start of the record, the "singing" sounds like exerpts from Hitler's hate speeches (shouting while very close to the mic). Later on, it was just random, nonsensical lyrics, and the last 5-6 songs are fully instrumental. Overall, an interesting listen today. This is absolutely terrible, but the antics of the band, along with my ability to see what they were driving at and what they influenced allows me to look past the awful noise I heard. I will never go back and listen again, but I still feel this is better than a 1 star album for those reasons. Also, this isn't as bad as that utter trash that Pere Ubu called music a few days ago. Oy. I like some weird stuff, but this is really pushing the limits.

I thought, that that would be the first album that I wouldn't listen to it whole. But it was easier than some that I already did.

2.5 It was better than expected. Never heard of them or listened to anything quite like it before. I'd listen to it again, but not sure it is something I would listen to regularly.

German factory ambiance music.

It’s discordant and absolutely horrible to listen to. But it does interest me. I don’t speak German so whilst listening I’m googling what this album is about. I wouldn’t listen again and I had to sit in discomfort to get through it all but that’s not to say that what it is trying to achieve (depictions of war and pain) is not effective

If you're idea of a good time is listening to someone banging and pounding on chunks of metal, repeatedly over and over and over again, I have an album for you! Quite literally, this is what "real" Industrial music sounds like. This is scary shit, this is what nightmare soundtracks sound like and really is there any redeeming qualities to this "music"? I have to admit, I got used to it after a while and I did in fact listen to the whole thing which is an accomplishment because during the first track, I didn't think I could. I thought the percussion rhythms generally worked and I'm rating it higher than 1 star, because I didn't hate it, but then again there wasn't much to love.

Probably the wierdest album I have ever listened to. Not the worst - that is still Nico - but very odd, with unusual instrumental choices. I had no real idea what to expect, and don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone else!

This is a hard one... it very clearly wasn't intended to be thought of as music; it's more performance art than anything. Some of it ever-so-vaguely resembles the industrial vibe that turns up in music that I really like (Ministry, Fear Factory, KMFDM etc) but that's where any real connection to music here ends. It has that "ha ha, this is fucked up" edge in the lyrics, which combines well with the utter sonic despair they're paired with and that gets it an extra point, but I am also being pretty generous there. 2/5.

2.6 - This sounds like a sample catalog for industrial music, or the soundtrack for a sub-genre of pornography you wish didn't exist.

I thought that Germany was out of the "crimes against humanity" business... + 1 star for sheer audacity, and the final few tracks which veered toward being tolerable.

How to review an album that wasn't meant to be "enjoyed"? I tried thinking of it as visiting a performance art piece (which I gather is how the band started). But even then I found it hard going, intriguing at times but never really engaging - hampered no doubt by me not understanding German (and not finding translations in the time available). All along, I'm thinking fondly of times with Simon and Jeremy (RIP), who cited this band as a key influence they wanted to bring into our band, and of course then into Kinderschmerzen. In the end, I'm going to rate it as usual: how much did I enjoy/appreciate it, and would I come back for more? Having dipped quickly into some later albums where they mixed the industrial noise with more melody, groovier rhythms, and discernable song structures, I'm sticking with my original rating: two stars, the second being due more to the memories than to the recording itself.

Pretty tough to listen to but it definitely has a place in music history given that it paved the way for other industrial music. A bit too experimental for me.

Some songs were definitely listenable. Others were sound collages put together. Not a very cohesive album, maybe that’s the point?

Pretty much endured this. I’m a generally open to the idea that I’m not getting something weird and could be brought around to appreciation but This one I thought was a load of BS.

You know the phenomenon where porn addicts have to keep seeking out more and more extreme stuff because the normal stuff doesn't do it for them anymore? This is the musical equivalent of that. I actually sort of appreciate this being on the 1,001 instead of another uninteresting British punk album or something. Like, my ears were destroyed by drills and metal plans clanging and I wanted to quit this album after about two songs, but I appreciate the variety.

Worst so far. I want to meet the person who enjoys this. I had to listen to 60 minutes of Yacht Rock to undo the damage.

Maybe like me you wondered why Flea was one of the German Nihilists in the Big Lebowski. Turns out he was into German whatever-the-hell-this-is music at the time. And his five lines are vastly more entertaining than this entire album.

One song actually hurt our ears as we frantically raced to skip it. Perhaps an interesting experimentation with industrial sounds, but not a pleasant one. We couldn't finish this.

This is what a parody of German musical intellectualism would be. Unfortunately, a German band did it to themselves. I'd rather listen to ABBA or ELO and I definitely won't ever do that again. Negative-eternity stars. OMG, the Germans....

23 tracks is a lot. I imagine this album was very influential, but I can't say I'm a big fan of the Industrial genre.

I really tried with this one, but man, I just couldn't do it. I don't know that power tools have their place in music lol

Like they cover themselves in ocean garbage plastic and stand underneath strobe lights? This is the "musical" version of that. It's not good. It's not meant to be good.

Ik heb niet zoveel van deze plaat kunnen horen, want toevallig begonnen ze ineens bij de buren met de verbouwing. Tenminste, dat vermoed ik, want ik hoorde buurman Niels toch duidelijk met de drilboor zijn badkamer te lijf gaan, terwijl zijn zoontje er nog wat doorheen zat te krijsen en met zijn politieauto te spelen. Vervolgens bleek dat mijn buurvrouw aan de andere kant haar wekker steeds opnieuw liet afgaan, kennelijk lag ze nog te snoozen. Vervolgens ging ze even badderen, maar kennelijk brandde ze zich aan de warme kraan, tenminste, dat dacht ik af te kunnen leiden uit haar geschreeuw. Vreemd: vervolgens gingen ze op de begraafplaats hier tegenover een heidens ritueel houden, met trommels en gejammer, waarna de buurtcommissie versieringen begon te timmeren voor de feestweek. En daarna zette de buurvrouw Serge Gainsbourg op en ging cakebeslag mixen. Ja, in mijn straat gebeurt altijd wat, maar wat er nou precies op deze plaat stond, op die vraag moet ik het antwoord schuldig blijven. Misschien maar beter ook.

In alles zit muziek. Maar deze band krijgt het er niet uit. Sterretje voor de creativiteit, dan maar? Absoluut niet! Iets te vaak brengt een (tandarts)boor oid vooral hoofdpijn in plaats van muziek.

Volgens het boek is dit audioterrorisme. Het was blijkbaar de bedoeling om pijn aan de oren te doen en absoluut niet luisterbaar te zijn. In dat opzicht is het uitermate geslaagd. Want dit doet inderdaad pijn aan de oren. Misschien is het qua kunstexperiment wel interessant om een keer gehoord te hebben, maar een plezier doe je er niemand mee lijkt me. Wat een ongelooflijke pokkeherrie. Ik scroll er even rap doorheen en druk op de 1 ster. Ik ben niet zo sadomasochistisch ingesteld dat ik dit uit ga luisteren. Zoals ze op track 3 al roepen: nein nein nein!

This is un- listenable. I tried, but had to skip track after track as my ears continued to bleed. Maybe it would hit different if I understood German? The scream-screech probably sounds the same in any language. I do understand that this is an art piece, but I guess it’s not my kind of art.

Einstürzende Neubauten are seminal industrial and experimenta group and this their first album, and you can really tell. I'm actually quite surprised this one is on here. Maybe it was chowed for shock value? Either way, it couldn't possible have been for its musical qualities, or in this case, lack thereof. Here we find a young group messing around with whatever they can, without much regard to what it sounds like. They're just trying stuff, truly "experimental". Only a study on the influential work they would soon go on to make. This isn't worth your time, just go listen to their actual classic album, 1/2 Mensch.

I would imagine this is the worst rated album on the list because how can it get worse? It's incredibly offensive to the ears and serves very little purpose. There's a slight reprieve halfway into the album with a song that is a Serge Gainsbourg cover. That's the only discernible music I heard on the album. Just really horrid.

I thought yesterday's Swiss Industrial album was bad - this was worse. I feel like someone added this one just to spite me. An hour of awful, painful noise. I try hard to listen to the whole album if possible but I had to skip most of the tracks on this for my own sanity.

In some sort of world this is the sound that made bands like Rammstein and other noise bands, but holy shit is this type of thing that makes top 1000 albums of all time simply because this garbage is made in the 80s??? I can barely survive until Jet’M and actually recognize it’s a poorly rendered rendition of another song from an album here and it really made me think just HOW bad this album is 1/5 would never recommend this to my worst enemy

Releasing this album is the second worst thing the Germans have ever done. How does this even count as music? The only rhythm comes from banging on metal bowls and pipes. However, starting a song on your industrial album with actual power tools is pretty funny, even if the rest of the album is genuine earrape. Favorite Track: Absteig and Zerfall

This was absolutely horrible and may be the worst album I ever listened to. There was absolutely nothing to latch onto, no beats or anything. Just sounded like metal was getting hit together, while someone shouted at me in German. Liked Songs: Nothing

Einstürzende Neubauten walked so that Stomp could run. Music and mood are intrinsically linked. As much as I admire the vision and desire to do something different. This will never be my mood and there is plenty of industrial that followed that was decent.

I had never heard of this band before. From the artist name, I was expecting orchestral arrangements. I'm not a huge fan of orchestral arrangements, but I would have much preferred that to the experimental journey Kollaps took me on. I have seen several other users say this is the worst album on the list. That certainly can't be true, but it might be my least favorite thus far.

As harsh and difficult as you'd expect from an industrial album, though I would argue that this is also surprisingly tuneful for what it is. There's almost a punk spirit here, as it's filled with short and spirited song as opposed to long and drawn-out ones. While the sounds are pretty cool, always layered and unique, the short song lengths makes it feel as though it jumps around too much. There are very few moments where it settles into a sound and elaborates on it; the title track is one of the few songs that luxuriates on a groove. I appreciate this from a sound design perspective, but it has few impactful moments that make full use of that sound.

Just because it is different or unusual, doesn't mean it needs to be listened to before you die. I am starting to wish this list was comprised of generally agreed upon "good" music rather than the most eclectic 1001 albums they could find. I mean, I can make an album of dogs barking and babies farting, but that shouldn't automatically qualify it for this list just because no one has done that before.

*insert Joe Pesceci "What The Fuck Is This Piece of Shit?" meme here* I do enjoy industrial music now and again and was pleased to see the inclusion on this list. It's not 1001 albums to enjoy, it's 1001 albums to listen to. If another industrial album comes up I will be disappointed. One is enough. 1.5 rounded down because...well...too many short tracks over a long period of time. One of the things I enjoy about ambient music is its ability to put you in a trance and there was little of that happening here.

This album is undoubtedly one of the worst on the list. I can understand that someone had to experiment with industrial equipment mixed with a screaming vocalist. It’s not surprising the Germans, known for their efficiency, were behind it. I’m glad that this album is done, so I never have to properly encounter it again.

It's easy to make bad, uninspired, or bland music. It's easy to make music where the lack of talent and creativity would relegate an album to the bottom of a garage sale CD pile. It's a whole other thing to make music that puts the entire weight of a city's urban decay and soulless industry into your soul, dragging you to a purgatory that you aren't fully convinced you will escape from. I did not enjoy this album at all, but it is for sure my favorite 1 star album on this list.

One of the worst things I've ever listened to in my life.

Not my favourite German album... That of course would be Immoment by Flowin' Immo et les Freaqz. I love that album. It was pretty rough getting this within a week of listening to that Throbbing Gristle album. This really wasn't any better. I'm sure there's some artistry here to appreciate, but it eludes me without listening again - which I don't really want to do.
