Top 10 album of all time
10/10 no notes no skips
One of my fav albums of all time. Each song is a powerful story that captures you with the beautiful vocals. Even though it’s about heartbreak, the songs aren’t sappy but raw and I keep singing along and tapping my fingers to the beat.
This is an absolutely perfect LP. The musicianship is top notch, the melodies are addictive, the production is slick, the tight tracklist leaves you satisfied yet wanting more, and the vocals are just the chefs kiss on top of it all. From the light opener, to the string of hits (Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way), stopping by a beautiful ballad (Songbird), to a second half that starts with the infamous 'The Chain' and ending it all with four more tracks that could have easily been hit singles, as well. It certainly feels like a band at their absolute creative peak, yet we all know the problems that plagued them at the time. It sounds cliche to say, but the fact they were able to come out with this album despite everything is absolutely astounding. I also feel like giving it a 5 is a bit cliche. I also don't really care if it is; because 'Rumours' deserves it.
While this album is a life tenant in my skull, I’m not sure I had ever listened to it all the way through in one go as I did today, which was magic, twice. To the library of panegyrics, I’ll just add that today I noticed how Buckingham’s solo at the end of Go Your Own Way, with its economy of notes insistent through repetition, is a blazing row put to metre, right through to the final, growling, had-too-many-angry-whiskies muttering at the end. A poetic intelligence is running the frets.
banger after banger, incredible! [edit: It's so weird how some hairy blues bores suddenly decided to become backing for the early-'70's Dollar and, somehow, spit out a ton of all-time classics. Is there any band with remotely similar history to the two phases of Fleetwood Mac?]
A classic, that I completely missed until I migrated to Radio 2 in my late 30s

Rumours There’s a reason this has been the best selling vinyl in the UK in the last few years, why it’s sold so many copies over nearly 50 years and why it’s almost universally lauded - it’s fucking excellent. Aside from the myths and stories around the bands interpersonal relationships at the time it’s just a brilliant set of 11 superbly arranged songs, not a duffer or weak track. It’s beautifully sequenced and balanced, it flows well with the different singers and songwriters lapping or striking against each other. The songs and songwriting are so good that’s it’s easy to overlook what great musicians they are - the Fleetwood & McVie rhythm section, Christine McVie’s piano, Lindsey Buckingham’s distinctive and fantastic lead guitar and Stevie Nicks superb singing. The legend of it all, the perspectives of the different songwriters, the songs, the playing all contribute to it being great, but I absolutely LOVE the sound of it. I think that really helps it endure after all these years. Its sound is rich, warm and deep, without being syrupy or veering into inoffensive nothingness. The sound on Dreams is exemplary, it just sounds so so good. The blues history of McVie and Fleetwood give it a bit of soul, Buckingham’s guitar gives it a bit of edge, with Nicks and Christine McVie giving it deftness and unique character. It’s one of my absolute favourite albums of all time, a no brainer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Dreams" from Fleetwood Mac is definitely ICONIC. I previously have heard the songs on this album in other media (movies, shows, social media, in the background music of department stores, etc.) but never knew the origin of the songs or what band produced the album for that matter. I recall hearing it on TikTok, which sparked my interest and led me to purchase a copy of the record on vinyl when I visited Mobius Records, a record store in Fairfax, VA. I picked up a used 1977 US Press copy for $22, which I am currently spinning to listen to the album once again...
Really good easy listening.
Must have!
One of the all time great albums. The production quality and the vocal harmonies are top notch and it's a very consistent album which makes it close to perfect as a whole.
This album really is perfect. Every song offers variety and has its own character yet still ties in to the overall feel of the album. The lyrics are perfect, the choruses are perfect, the harmonies are perfect, the playing is perfect, the production is perfect and the album doesn’t outstay its welcome. My favourite track will always be The Chain, the bass part at the end is iconic and is one many examples of genius moments in the album.
"Rumours" is the 11th studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac. The album was largely recordered in California in the aftermath of several bandmember relationship breakups (all members involved in a breakup) and infamously with an influence of heavy drug (cocaine) use. It was produced by Fleetwood Mac, Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut and the intent was a more "pop" album after the succes of their 1975 album. The music was a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments and accented rhythms, guitars and keyboards. The lyrics were about personal and troubled relationships. It was critically acclaimed especially for its production and vocal harmonization. The album was a massive success hitting #1 in the UK and US and selling ten million copies in its first month of its release. It won the 1978 Grammy for album of the year and in 2017 was selected for the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry for its artistic significance. A great description of the album is "the quintessence of the counter-culture mindset lured into coke-fueled hedoism." Yeah, well, it worked to a very higher level. Four audio tracks of electronic guitars and a chair percussion to create Celtic rock build up the opener "Second Hand News." Inspired by the Bee Gees "Jive Talkin'" and you can really hear that. Great vocal harmonies here and throughout. Buckingham is Nicks' second hand news. Lindsey does give a searing guitar end. Stevie has a much more optimistic and hopeful tale of the break-up in "Dreams." The drum beat and dreamy music. A repeating two note bass. Iconic lyrics throughout: "Thunder only happens when it's raining." Christine McVie offers more hope and optimism to her ex-husband bassist John McVie on "Don't Stop." Piano and drums come in. Underlying guitar. A good song to hum to. The first single and another more pessimistic Buckingham take on the Nick's breakup is "Go Your Own Way." More rockin with the guitar and drums. I love the way this song sounds like it wants to take off and then eventually does. More great harmonies. "The Chain" was written by all members and is a combination of four songs. All three taking turns as lead singer. Buckingham on the dobro. This song always reminds me of a western movie for some reason. Christine McVie offers the good times again in "You Make Loving Fun," a song about her current boyfriend. A definite Stevie Wonder vibe. The album ends with the haunting "Gold Dust Woman." Cowbell, harpsichord, glass breaking and Stevie's weary voice. A story about a LA woman in bad relationship, doing drugs and trying to live. Autobiographical? This album still sounds fantastic. Hit after hit. Tremendous harmonies. Catchy music. Very creative construction of music pieced together. Dynamic with the rotating lead singers. It's interesting with just the different tones of the lead singers' lyrics alone. A classic in every sense of the word.
i don't know what i can say about this album that hasn't been said before. i will say that "silver springs" has to be included when considering this album, and i won't be taking no for an answer. this album is a wonderful mix of songs. emotional songs that tear at your heart, but there's plenty of fun songs so you aren't weighed down too much. "you make loving fun" might be the purest, happiest song on the album while recollecting the joy of love. you've got an acoustic song, "never going back again," and a piano only song (and a little acoustic guitar), "songbird." most songs aren't as minimal, so they stand out more. "the chain" has such an intense beat in comparison. the reverberating bass before the big finish--wow. the album is well balanced. the songwriting is absolutely exquisite here. each member of fleetwood mac contributed, to the album's gain. the different perspectives amid the relationship drama, again, only help the album. the album title makes sense, huh? if i may request readers' patience, the juxtaposition of all of these lyrics: "i know there's nothin' to say/someone has taken my place" from "second hand news", "for you, the sun will be shining/and i feel that when i'm with you" from "songbird", "and if you don't love me now/you will never love me again" from "the chain", and "now here you go again, you say you want your freedom/well, who am i to keep you down?" from "dreams". i love it all so much! the voices of christine mcvie and stevie nicks absolutely ruin me. the minimal accompaniment to "songbird" allows mcvie's voice to be center stage. what a beautiful and captivating voice--and the same for nicks, too. while, no offense, i don't find lindsey buckingham's voice as interesting, he doesn't have a bad voice--and it's perfect for a song like "second hand news." but there's something about nicks and buckingham singing together. there isn't a bad song on this album. it's a perfect album and i have no notes. i don't hesitate in my vote.
Rumours by Fleetwood Mac (1977) What makes a great pop/rock album great? 1. Solid foundation, with drum- and bass- playing that give evidence of a long history of experience in blues and rock. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie bring that in spades on this album, including (from 1970) keyboards/vocalist Christine McVie—having graduated from a solid British blues/rock career (1967-1974) to the hugely successful 1975 ‘second iteration’ of the band, when they added (Americans!) guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks, giving us literally the best of both worlds. The musical maturity on this album is superb. 2. Sultry lead vocals by Stevie Nicks (“Dreams”) and Christine McVie (whose “Songbird” brings a tear even without knowing the backstory), both of whose dynamism and discipline make for a perfect synthesis with musical settings; 3. Excellent mixing, with plenty of bass and drums, yet leaving plenty of space for well arranged guitar riffs and for C. McVie on this, the swansong of the Fender Rhodes (this was the last album on which that instrument sounded good); 4. Sensitive, intricate, and colorful backing vocals. C. McVie, Nicks, and Buckingham are all masters at backing each other (and themselves on well restrained overdubs), especially on the backing choral sections of “The Chain”, “You Make Loving Fun”, and “I Don’t Want to Know”. Youth choir directors should play this for the youngsters to show how it’s done (I know; I’ve done it and it works wonders); 5. Versatile guitar work by Lindsey Buckingham. From folk finger picking (“Never Going Back Again”) to driving rock (“Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain”) to haunting dobro (“The Chain”) to wailing electric solos (“The Chain”,“You Make Loving Fun”), he’s a master of many styles. 6. Top-rate songwriting. There’s not a weak song on this album, with solo songwriting credits going to C. McVie, Nicks, and Buckingham each contributing fine songs to the collection; 7. State of the art studio work, with plenty of time, thought, cooperation, and support from Warner Bros. Records (This was not produced on the cheap); 8. A sense of drama. Listen starting at 3:01 on “The Chain” and tell me if you don’t feel John McVie’s fretless bass crawl up your spine to the nape of your neck, before handing your scalp to Buckingham’s harrowing, screaming electric guitar solo. Or hear the development of the backing vocals on “Oh Daddy” starting almost imperceptibly at 1:20. These are stories in sound; 9. A boldly experimental approach, as in Mick Fleetwood’s numerous percussive treats on “Oh Daddy” and in the closing track “Gold Dust Woman”, including sound effects, electronic harpsichord, castanets, gong, and (wouldn’t you know it?) cowbell; 10. Clever and technically well executed cover art. This classic album can teach a serious listener how to listen better. Ignore it to your musical poverty. 5/5
This is a ubiquitous record in a way that sets it apart from most on this list. This is a record that music nerds, musicians, casual listeners, and everyone in-between, love. I'm not sure that it's my favorite Fleetwood Mac record, but its up there. Their self-titled record that precedes this has some more interesting songs. But this one is their classic. And it deserves the accolades.
This album certainly evokes a very specific time period for me. These songs were everywhere in 1977 and listening to them brought up memories of particular places and feelings. There's not a dud on the album. Every song is terrific. It helps that the band contains (more than) three great song-writers and vocalists, each with their own style. But these distinct voices can also blend into something sublime. Glad to have this opportunity to be reminded of it in its entirety.
The push and pull, yin and yang sound of a band falling apart whilst keeping it together. There’s not an ounce of fat or filler to any of the proceedings, and with its universal themes of love, loss and redemption, coupled with superb songs and performances, ‘Rumours’ remains loved by almost everyone and will continue to be for generations to come.
A big personal favourite. Not only as a sonic masterpiece as an album, but each song can stand on its own. I can't think of another group with 3 different lead vocalists that works so well. It's endured for over 40 years as one of the GOATs and remains endearing to each subsequent generation. What more could you ask for? Picking a favourite song is absolutely impossible, there are so many moods represented. If I'm looking for motivation - The Chain. Reading before bed - Songbird. Having a peaceful sunny weekend - Dreams, Never Going Back Again.
What can you say about this album. It's the perfect storm in its conception, context, and execution. As everything is falling apart for the band, they produce this cocaine-fueled miracle. The album is a greatest hits collection interspersed with other songs that fit perfectly. The harmonies, the lyrics, the instruments, the arrangements, the production, everything just works on this album 5/5
Brilliant album. Unlike some, the continued familiarity with most tracks doesn’t dull them. The phrase ‘timeless classic’ couldn’t be more apt.
👍🏻
Brilliant album Deserving of the flowers it receives and the story behind it is riveting I like more songs from the Self Titled
Don’t get the hype around this album, but it is good. I knew most of the songs already, and Go Your Own Way and The Chain are bangers. The rest is okay, if anything a bit bland, but decently enjoyable.
So the 1st ranked, there has to be 1, and a middle of the road white bread; liked but more importantly not disliked will get you that. Accept it’s a very good album for lots of reasons, the songs are generally strong, the production and the drama/ background, the later which I think is the main reason for it’s overhype, cocaine and in house infidelity the album. Not going to say I don’t like it because I do (or did) but I don’t love it. It’s a good 70s soft rock album, but that’s also why it’s not the best of the best, it’s just a 70s soft rock album, Too polished too middle of the road and if never heard it again it wouldn’t be too soon, ( have heard it a lot and don’t really want to listen today but here goes). No that didn’t change anything. Maybe I’m just totally fed up and oversaturated by it but it’s not 5 star for me anymore, if it ever was. This is just so conventional middle-class music fan, so white bread it just isn’t in my idea of a GOAT album, album you should hear sure but better than everything else??? No, no and no. low 4 Star
not THE greatest album on this list but a banger nonetheless
The legendary Rumours: one of the best selling albums ever, featuring a ton of unforgettable tracks and maybe the best Soft Rock album ever, at least in the eyes of many. Even if I think it isn't a perfect record, it is certainly a great one and I'll never get people that claim this album isn't. Yes, it is overrated but that doesn't mean that it's bad. In fact, the songwriting, the vocals and so much more here turn this ultimately into a beautiful and melodic song about love, breakup and life that deserves the spot that it has in music history. The cover is also absolute fire!!! The opening track 'Second Hand News' is an energetic Folk Pop Rock song with hints of Country Pop that make this not only easy to listen to but also easy to swing around to. It's just a perfect way to start things off and get the listener into a mood for an album like this. I personally think that it's also one of the most underrated tracks on the album and easily an incredible track. Of course 'Dreams' is a perfect song. The mix of Soft Rock with Psychedelic Pop and Country is absolutely gorgeous and one of the best known songs of all time. It's so legendary for a reason: IT'S PERFECT!!! The lyrics, the delivery, the songwriting and of course the chorus are all absolutely beautifully arranged and produced. I don't even know what to say except that it's a perfect Pop song. 'Never Going Back Again' goes a bit more into Folk & Country Pop with mainly acoustic guitar and vocals that drive the song. It is a beautiful song but I find to be not nearly as appealing. It's still great but just more basic in a way. I do like it a lot but I wouldn't miss it if it was cut from the album. Luckily, 'Don't Stop' picks things up again with a mix of Pop Rock and Glam Rock but also some Boogie Rock and of course a catchy melody as well as a really catchy chorus. Some parts of it are a bit all over the place but that doesn't stop it from being absolutely incredible and one of the best Pop songs of '77. Nearly as legendary as 'Dreams', 'Go Your Own Way' is pretty much an even better version of 'Don't Stop' with better verses, better songwriting and even a better chorus which is crazy because that previous one was absolutely incredible with all of it but somehow they topped that and even mixed in a bit of Springsteen. Yeah, this is perfect, end of discussion. Side A then closes with the Singer-Songwriter Piano song 'Songbird' which is a really lovely ballad with both emotional vocals and also a really great chorus that combined makes a beautiful love song. I think that a lot of it could've used a bit more to it but this is still a great song. The maybe most forward thinking song has to be 'The Chain' which combines Country Rock with Blues Rock, Prog-Pop and even some Post-Punk which is absolutely crazy in terms of the time and circumstances it was released. The song's really good at building a lot of tension and releasing it in the perfect second. Just an absolute masterclass of songwriting. This might be my favourie song on the album. It's an absolute masterpiece. 'You Make Loving Fun' combines bits of Disco, Funk with their usual sounds to create soft Yacht Rock song. I get why many like this song so much and I do like it a lot too but I don't think that it stands out that much among these songs. It's a wonderful song and I really like the vocals in the chorus especially but apart from that nothing really sticks out a ton. It's all wonderful of course and still a great song. The Country Pop song 'I Don't Want to Know' follows and it's a pretty good song but I think it stays there. I like it but it's not like it's a crazy song that blows my mind. It's nice to listen to and I enjoy it but that's it. Really good. 'Oh Daddy' is a Psychedelic Folk song with a weird sexual feeling to it. Again, it's a really good song and I like a lot of the weird details they put into the song but it also feels very basic when held against the rest of the album. It's good but again, it stays at that level. Closing track 'Gold Dust Woman' combines Folk Pop Rock with Raga Rock and Art Rock and so many name this as one of the albums best tracks but I don't see it. It's good of course but definitely not great. There is just not enough to it. It's just there and sometimes does some whacky stuff that makes it interesting but the chorus feels like it's plastered on top without really integrated properly. favourites: The Chain, Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Don't Stop least favourites: Gold Dust Woman, I Don't Want to Know Rating: strong 8 https://rateyourmusic.com/~Emil_ph for more ratings, reviews and takes
Never going back is just such a fun little ditty x
Great album. Love the cover of the F1 theme tune
Change of pace from Fleetwood Mac with the American connection bringing a poppier stance and the sound of a band falling apart spectacularly, yet staying together.
Amazing with so much internal drama they were able to write a record with so many fucking incredible songs. "The Chain" is one of the best rock songs ever written. Favorite tracks: "The Chain", "Gold Dust Woman"
Heard Before? At this point I think we are all born having already heard this album. Notes: - before listening carefully this time around, i was intending to write that there is nothing wrong with this album except its odd cultural dominance. - instead i found plenty not to like. multiple vocalists is great, but here we have the umpteenth group to underuse their superior female singers. not a surprise, but still a disappointment. - "Don't Stop" is quite limp. there's no build, drive or variation, and those lame synth pads throughout really don't help. - "Songbird" is completely forgettable, a beige wallpaper ballad. "Oh Daddy" isn't far behind, despite the lovely vocals and terrific bassline. - too often, the arrangements are static and just plunk along. so much midtempo, midrange, undynamic porridge. it would be harder to notice, but the undercooked songs sit right beside the brilliant ones. - on the positive side, the drums and bass sound fantastic throughout. - "Dreams" and especially "The Chain" were two of my favorite songs of the 70s until i heard them ten thousand times. Verdict: Why at this point in history anyone decides to purchase and play this deliberately is beyond me. Listen Again? Ha! Not by choice, but i don't have much choice, do i?
I know this is supposed to be a legendary album, but it's a mixed bag for me. Four great tracks (Dreams, The Chain, Oh Daddy, and Gold Dust Woman) and then some seriously naff ones that derail the flow. It's as incoherent as this unfinished senten....
It's alright. Overhyped, not my jam.
Soi-disant un des plus grands albums de tous les temps. C'était sympa.
September 2014. A field in Sussex. 2am. Some dick is STILL playing Fleetwood Mac loudly around their camp fire on the other side of the camp site. I don't know if it was just Rumours they were playing, but I have a tricky relationship with this band as a result. I did listen to this. It's got the tunes everyone knows and which I heard on loop on that September night. It's also got some other quite nice tunes. It's OK. But, 2am has scarred me. I don't actively object to Fleetwood Mac, but I tend not to seek them out.
Is it the most overrated crap out there?
Just can’t
Just can’t get excited about this band.
Overrated pap from a once great blues band turned backing unit for a pair of American songwriters whose private lives proved more exciting, even incendiary, than their compositions.
I will never understand why people like this so much. It just makes me wish for bluesy Fleetwoodac back.
nahiko chill ta entzun daiteke baño eztet gehiegi konektatu, no me ha movido nada. ez det abestirik gorde.
Go your own way and chain are good, plus the mixed male and female vocals are nice, but otherwise a pretty dull album.
So….Rumours. It’s such a revered and enduringly popular album. I’ve dutifully listened to it again trying to find the spark I’ve always missed. Unfortunately, I still didn’t find said spark. It’s mainly bland, country rockish, and plodding as far as I can tell. Maybe some of the lyrics are inspirational if you’re interested in self-affirmational content. The iconic guitar break at the end of The Chain is an honourable exception to that sweeping statement. And Gold Dust Woman at the end of the album is a nice song. But for me that’s about it.
I do not enjoy Fleetwood Mac at all. Mostly Stevie Nicks' voice . This activity forced me to listen to the other songs that I didn't already know, so that's good I guess
Kann man machen
Grocery-store core.
Wow, I really didn't realise how much I don't like fleetwood mac that much. The chain brought it up a star though
Cool. Another biggie and the finale to the Fleetwood Mac duology. I still don't care much for Tusk, though I remember it having a good tune or two - especially the song which had those warm, buzzing guitars. I'm expecting something more polished and well-rounded for their big release. Here goes. Yeah, not bad. The songwriting is competent and there's an admirable level of variety on these tunes. It may be my inner contrarian speaking, but I admittedly find it hard to engage with these prissy, perfect pop rock albums. There isn't anything on here which gives the band a unique creative identity, which is what I really look for in music. Still, for what it's worth this album is a pleasant listen and is filled to the brim with hits. I've heard "Dreams" before. Great tune. The lead vocals are silky smooth and oh so pleasing, and the mellow instrumental is a fitting accompaniment. "Don't Stop" is another song I've heard before. It's admittedly one of the weaker offerings, though it's still an above-average cut. The piano goes a long way in making the song a fun, bouncy tune, and the vocals are solid during the chorus. I've also heard "Go Your Own Way", of course. The national anthem of car marketing departments everywhere. That chorus is golden, though the bits in between lose me. "The Chain" is another heard before-er. The vocal melody is pretty strong, and the warm, lead acoustic guitar gives the song a nice sound. The intense second half came as a surprise - I don't remember the song pivoting in that direction. I know this one's a big deal, so I'm not gonna check the book. I cosign this inclusion.
Fleetwood Mac seems to be the band that your parents had in the car if you were born in the eighties/early nineties. And, if they were cooler than my parents. I seem to remember being 12 years old and my uncle putting this one. My Mum said she enjoyed it, so my Dad bought an album called 'The Best of Early/Young Fleetwood Mac' (or something to that effect), it didn't go down as well with my mum. Ignoring that pointless anecdote, I did actually Fleetwood Mac live in New Zealand (my mother in law bought the whole family tickets). So, I'd certainly heard a good handful of these songs. I don't remember being particularly excited about the gig. Neil Finn was playing the role of Lindsay Buckingham's vocals, and Mike Campbell was doing his guitar parts. Two artists I quite like. My main problem was Mick Fleetwood. He did this incredibly cringey drum/shout solo. I understand his importance in the musical world, but he just looks like the kind of guy I wouldn't want to talk to. And, like many people my age, I don't have that weird crush on Stevie Nicks. Anyway, my pre-existing convictions aside, the album: First song in, I said "This really sucks!". My wife laughed. I'd really like to find that CD my Dad bought, because this is English classic rock combined with an Americana country tone. I don't actually think it blends that well together. There are plenty of singles in there. I can see why they are important. But, bar 'The Chain', I'm not holding them in particularly high regard. I did enjoy 'Never Going Back Again' for its guitar work. But, I don't get the hype. Isn't this one of the most streamed albums of all time? Or something to that effect? It's a bit frustrating that this album is a common choice for people over taking a risk on new artists. Although, I'm listening to them today... So, I guess they win that one. 2 Stars. Yep, 2 Stars.
There are a few good songs and maybe one really great song on here, but like most Fleetwood Mac, the album is mostly pretty boring.
Ugh. God production/engineering. Lots of hits came off this album. But dang. I feel like fleeteood Mac is overrated. Not my cup of tea.
Not my cup of tea. Nach dem 5. Song mochte ich nicht mehr hören.
1977. I don't have any Fleetwood Mac, because I don't like it. Yeah, there's some tracks I know, but if I want to hear them I could listen to Heart FM Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★☆☆☆(3/10)
I don't get it. This is in the top 10 (or 2 now!) of all albums of all time. The four singles are great, along with The Chain - not my thing, but great. This incarceration of Fleetwood Mac has the worst rhythm section of all time. I guess Fleetwood can keep a beat, but McVie's bass playing is beyond pedestrian. He'll take a decent song and just do the bare minimum. Lindsey Buckingham, who's brilliant guitar playing and solid singing shines throughout, must've been so mad at McVie for crapping all over his songs. Three stars, minus one for McVie's totally crap bass playing.
"Rumours" was a drowse. I'm not sure why it's rated so high among listeners. Fleetwood Mac is neither revolutionary like The Beatles, lush and harmonious like The Beach Boys, nor possesses The Stones's zeal.
I guess this could be called emo soft rock. Classic in it's genre, but not my thing. Few good pop tracks, but not enough to make me want to spend more time with this album.
I hear fleetwood mac all the time at friends' places... I feel like it's too simple, too clean, too rehearsed, too one dimensional to me...
Boring Soft Rock.
So So overrated!!!!
This is to music what Applebee's is to fine dining. Last two songs were pretty good though. Award this two balls.
i admittedly am not a fleetwood mac fan. i have always found them kind of hokey and overrated. i didn’t realize going in just how many of these songs i had already heard on the radio. however, this didn’t really change my opinion of the band. the only songs that i really like on this album are “the chain” and “gold dust woman”, and the rest i can honestly do without.
Fleetwood Mac is not my jam, pretend this is 2.5 stars
so overrated don't get how fleetwood mac are so beloved
Lots of classic tracks but I never liked them originally.
Funny skateboard cranberry juice song but not for me
Not quite my taste, although "The Chain" is pretty dope.
Frustrating to know every song somehow. Too radio 2 breakfast. Know it’s a classic but ruined by overplay elsewhere
Not a Fleetwood Mac fan
Fleetwood mac is a boring band. I dunno why they're so popular. Like the 70s version of moby or something - music for people who don't listen to music. This album is just a whole bunch of their "hits" that bore the shit out of me. It's not bad, it's just so inoffensively bland that it's like the soundtrack to going for a bike ride in nylon and then going to a cafe afterwards. 2/5 just cause one of the songs was obviously where offspring got the idea for dirty magic from.
One of the most overrated records of all time. "Dreams" is an OK song, the rest goes from mid to just dreadful ("Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow", "Oh Daddy")
Can't even begin to imagine what went on to warrant the creation of this album. Bangers.
Day 1, starting off strong. Don't need to re-listen to say that this is one of the greatest of all time. 9/10, 10/10 maybe? Why Silver Springs is a bonus track is beyond me, as it is easily much better than Oh Daddy.
Always great! One of the top 10 albums of all time
358/1089 okay here’s the juggernaut (which i’ve already heard and love) it really is just excellent, i definitely tend to prefer stevie on lead vocals but even the non-stevie led songs are strong i’ll always remember listening to The Chain fully for the first time bc i knew how the main bit went but then suddenly i’m hit with the Formula 1 guitar riff and i was kinda shook faves: The Chain, Dreams, Go Your Own Way 85/100
The first half of this album in particular had some really good beats.
The songs on this album are still played on the radio for a reason. It just works. Strong songwriting, cohesive sound, and a lot of talent. The album doesn’t sound dated, and somehow I’m not sick of the songs by now.
Obvious five stars, one of the best albums ever made. I’m always surprised when I hear this being one of the best, they’re self titled album. I think it’s just as good.
literalmente el mejor álbum del mundo, 5/5.
Psych-rock for the masses, and oh is it good
I don't think I've ever listened to this album all the way through before now. Which feels odd given how just omnipresent this thing is. Having listened to it all the way through, it is amazing how many hits this thing packs into Side A. Even if it tapers off a bit on Side B, it's still not a bad album and deserves a five-star rating.
Absolute solid gold classic 5. Massive fan of Lindsey Buckingham in this era currently. I'm getting old I like Fleetwood Mac.
For years I thought it was social suicide to admit you liked Fleetwood Mac. Then I discovered its actually cool. Who new?! Well out of the FM closet I come - and this album deserves its status at the top of hallowed lists. Glad the later versions include Silver Springs too. One of a few albums where there are no filler tracks. Five artists at the top of their game - whatever was going on off stage - makes for great music. My only controversial statement is to say Dreams is not the best song on the album. Not even top three on the album.
My first girlfriend introduced me to this album, I think we used to dance to the hit Thunder it probably resembled more of a shuffle could I don’t think I knew how to dance yet. I remember listening to the songs she liked after she broke up with me and how I wanted to listening to new music because she always liked doing so and I missed that about her. Nostalgia is a funny thing. Anyway banger album; 5/5
Clássico pop, unânimade.
This album is a series of absolute classics. Just brilliant from start to finish and easy to see why it's still so highly regarded
Falling apart in love never sounded so good.
The ratio of songs to hits is ludicrous for this album. It's crazy how good this is. There's a reason almost everyone has heard over half the songs from this album. Even the stuff that isn't as well known is still great. Favorite Songs: Go Your Own Way, You Make Loving Fun, The Chain, Second Hand News
Rumors? No, that was all true.
Hi I like this a lot
Best
It's hard to rate this objectively after hearing most of these songs a thousand times before. I don't know anymore whether I like this because it's great or just so recognisable. Great album, what else is there to say that has not yet been said?
I love this album
What a blast
(7/7) as good as mac 'n cheese
Fleetwood Mac – Rumours (1977) This is easily among, if not the, most complete LP in existence. It has the bangers, the deep cuts, top-tier production, incredible vocal performances, charisma, cohesiveness, and absolute consistency. It delivers everything you could possibly need in a body of work. "Dreams" stands entirely in its own bracket for me, deeply personal, comforting, and a song I can cry to while feeling happy. But the deep cuts here are just as powerful; tracks like "Songbird" and "Gold Dust Woman" tap straight into your soul in a way that is hard to even put into words. Meanwhile, "You Make Loving Fun" brings a brilliant, upbeat vibe that perfectly sets the mood, and iconic bangers like "The Chain" maintain incredible energy. From the discovery of fire and the wheel to Rumours, this is one of the greatest things humanity has ever produced. A definitive 5/5.
A stone-cold, cocaine- and breakup-fuelled classic.
I figure only the most crusty contrarians can give this album less than a 5. Buckingham is perhaps the most underrated guitarist in rock, with a genius for crafting a song. Combined with Christine’s musicianship, Nicks’ vocals, and Fleetwood’s muscular percussion, this was the pinnacle of their catalog. They just kept at it, despite, and maybe because of, interpersonal melees and descents into drug abuse. Rock solid album…
still a classic for many reasons
3 monster-hits in de eerste 5 nummers...
A solid, no frills rhythm section from John McVie and Fleetwood. Christine brings the bedrock keyboards, the mother voice and the empathy. Stevie brings the sultry, and Lyndsay brings the rock vocals and guitar licks. An amazing album from an amazing band with 3 vocalists and songwriters to ensure high quality, timeless songs.
5/5: It is amazing how many hits are in this one album. My hot take is that Fleewood Mac is slightly overrated because there songs don't feel super innovative or unique, BUT this is easily a five star album. These songs are very simple in their structure and chord progressions but all of the parts work very well together. None of the parts are doing too much, but they remain intereresting enough where I never got bored listening to this album (even though I have listened to this album before and heard some of these songs countless times). My favorite song on this is Never Going Back Again and that is one of my favorite guitar riffs of all time. You Make Loving Fun is another great song and I love the clavi riff. It is also interesting Silver Springs did NOT make the orginal album but is now viral on Tik Tok.
This is the greatest pop album of the 20th century!
What a near perfect album. Most songs are about being cheated on. What makes this stand out is you get the person who cheated on you to sing back-up
Great!
Maybe the best pop record of the 70s.
The hate sex must've been insane
#171/1001 🇬🇧🇺🇸 The peoples favourite. You simply can't argue with this one. There is not a bad track on here. Best tracks: Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Gold Dust Woman, Songbird, Don't Stop, Oh Daddy.
Ce que l’humanité a apporté de mieux au monde
This album was absolutely peak, I must say. I love the instrumentations, and lyrics as well as the guitar solos. I don’t know if I could find a cleaner guitar solo than the one in “The Chain”. I would highly recommend this to anyone. This album really got me into rock!
One of the greatest pieces of art ever conceived.
Iconic
I was surprised this was so highly rated and did not expect to like it that much, as I have tried listening to Fleetwood Mac some time before and didn't connect well with their music. HOWEVER, this album is just so good: banger after banger, solid melodies, lovely vocals, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL instrumentals, it hits deep emotionally and manages to sound fun at the same time. I will definitely be listening to more of this in the future. My biggest favourites were The Chain and Gold Dust Woman.
ALL
very listenable, basically every song a huge hit. 5/5.
Generational crowd pleaser. "Everyone has Rumors on vinyl🙄🙄" - Mr. Hamman. Who doesn't like this album every song on it is fun or beautifully composed. The only mistake of this album was that Silver springs wasn't on the original release. So so amazing, 5 stars
I mean yeah it's just gas
Not exactly a novel opinion but this is probably the best album on here. What an incredible collection of songs. What else is there to say that hasn’t already been said?
Impossible for me to be normal about this album. I have been listening to it on and off for my entire life. The variety of genres they touch on here is so satisfying, and any band with multiple talented singers is a win for me. Lindsey's guitar skills are on prime display and there is not a wasted second here.
Pleasantly surprised to see this as the highest rated album on this site. This hit machine has been discussed to death but is rightfully known as a masterpiece, in my opinion it's nearly perfect. Go Your Own Way was my introduction to 70s rock many years ago and has aged like a fine wine. *Record Collection
i'd never listened to this full album. i didn't know what to expect other than i felt like i was going to be emotionally wrecked in a witchy way, lol. when i opened the album art today, my knee-jerk reaction was a quiet, "oh, no". to myself. hahah. but then, i realized silver springs isn't on this album. (I looked it up and it's not on any album? it's the b-side to go your own way which is WILD). this pop rock / soft rock album is emotional, groovy, seminal, meaningful, it's amazingly produced and powerful, perfect for huge arena shows, while also still feeling intimate. i think my favorite song i still: the chain, though i loveee gold dust woman. <3
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
It was such an incredible album, it had the flourish of a well thought out creation all the while breaking into new soundscapes!
Heartbreaking, strong, beautiful album. Dreams Never Going Back Again Go Your Own Way The Chain You Make Loving Fun Gold Dust Woman
Måske det bedste pop album. No skips, 10ere hele vejen igennem
Kæft den her lyder lækkert! Virkelig gode sange!
The bangers just keeps coming
10/10 - Every song is a hit. A banger Fav Tracks: Second Hand News, Dreams, Don't Stop, The Chain, You Make Loving Fun Heard before? ---–- ✅❌ Saved a Song? ----- ✅❌ Saved Album? --–-- ✅❌ Will Listen Again? -- ✅❌ Album Cover -------Elegant
undeniable essential album
Classic, hard to ignore even if everything has been overplayed these days.
What can I even say that hasn’t been said? I guess oh daddy isn’t that good but this album is considered a classic for many many good reasons.
This is one of my all time favorite albums. It is just so easy to listen to and has many iconic songs.
Love it! Favorite album
10
Something special. It ebbs and flows beautifully. You never quite know where it's going, but the journey makes sense as it reveals itself. The album feels cohesive, and yet so many different voices, styles, and influences emerge throughout. Love it.
Beyond Excellent/ Best album EVER!!!
Fine fuck it 5
One of my favorite albums ever, but I always skip oh daddy The cheating and drama really do make it what it is and maybe it’s a miracle it even got made despite the terrors
Some of the groups biggest hits, super solid album.
Holy peak.
Classic. Every track is a banger. Would be a 6 star album if Silver Springs was actually on it like everyone thinks it is.
One of the greatest
This is a masterpiece. Each song could be the lead single of a lesser album.
Well, this is such a beautiful album that it rightfully deserves 5 stars. I've listened to it so many times and it still holds a special place in my heart.
This is one of those albums where every single song is on my playlist. It has songs that cover moods of anger, love, happiness, and determination. The album is fairly short so it feels like I can actually sit down and listen to it, and on top of that the history of how this album was made is top notch.
Absolute classic
I love this album, but I don’t love the track order. It’s rather front loaded, with the first half containing all the classic radio songs, and ends with Gold Dust Woman, which sounds like there is more to come, but there isn’t. Also, Silver Springs was egregiously left off the album. Now, it might sound like I don’t care for some of the songs - not true: I think they’re all great (Yes, even Oh Daddy). I would have produced it a little differently. Still it’s a 5 star record. Favorite track? Probably Never Going Back Again for Lindsay Buckingham’s incredible fingerpicking. 5 stars
To be honest the last two songs lose me a little bit but the rest of the album is so good that it doesn't matter at all.
One of the all-time greats. In almost every record collection for good reason.
This is not the first time I listen to Rumours, but I remember being a little disappointed the first time I listened to it, thinking "is this the album that so many consider the best/one of the best of all time?". On this listen I kind of feel the same way. This is not a bad album by any means, and I'm rating it a 5 (although I'm not a harsh critic), but Rumours is the album that I just don't get. Not because I don't like it, but because for me this is one of the weakest albums that I've rated a 5. My favourite tracks on this listen were "The Chain" (obviously a classic), "Go Your Own Way" and "Oh Daddy". However, I didn't find all the songs as compelling as these. For example, I just don't get why people love "Dreams" so much. I think the guitars are what I liked the most in this album. I feel strange about disparaging an album in a 5 star review, though. It really is a great album, I just don't think it's up there with the best of the best.
Stellar.
#969. I listened to Tusk on here last week and I said it wasn't exactly one of the greatest albums of all time, but this one is. Hell, it might even be the greatest album. I suppose there's a reason why it's the highest rated album on here. 5/5: perfect
Me encantó. Ya lo había escuchado, me gusta mucho la música de esta época.
Classic and eternal. Had seven of these songs saved already.
Is this REALLY as good as it’s Rumoured to be? (hahahahaha) Yeah, it is. Sometimes the people are correct. Must-listen #ooo
Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Masterpiece - It's hard to overstate how brilliant this album is. Perfect pop-rock from beginning to end and a wonderful selection of songs. Not a single moment that isn't beautifully crafted.
A great album with front to back hits. This album is probably a little overrated, but its hard for me not to agree personally. I was torn between a 4, or a 5, but I do love these songs!
Favourite!
One of my top ten
O, prou paše dons, na ta deževen petek, neki, kar sm že miljonkrat slišala. Plus, če se prav spomnim, se ta album in White album od Beatlov izmenjavata na mestu za top rated album v tem projektu. No wonder this is the top rated album, it’s amazing, easy to listen to, and appeals to such a wide audience
I did not need to listen to this album. I know it by heart! One of my all time favs
Already listened. Favorite tracks are “Dreams”, “You Make Loving Fun”, and “Second Hand News”.
This is a perfect album. Nothing more to say.
💕
Amazing album! Some of the songs I knew, some I didn't but I loved all of it, especially 'The Chain' and 'Go Your Own Way'.
Instant 5 star. I listen to this album in some shape or form, no exaggeration, at least twice a week. I don’t think anyone needs my musings as I’m sure it’s all been said before. Long live Rumours!!!
It isnt’t exactly ground-breaking to rate this album 5 stars but it really is that good. A tour de force from Fleetwood Mac with their vocals and lyricism as the centerpiece.
So incredible.
One of those records where I wish we'd get half stars here. Personal 9/10, and we'll round up because an 8 feels just a bit too low. Congrats Fleetwood, people like your drug filled, incestual band break up album
Probably the best album ever.
Almost the perfect AOR album. Every song’s a banger and it still sounds great after all these years.
Never gets boring. A stone cold classic and the epitome of seventies studio effervescence. It is a production that exudes possibility and emotion.
yes dude!
Fantastic album
Dreams
This is a great album, not as great as the people on here make it out to be, but great nonetheless. Second Hand News is such a strong opener and it gets better from there.
every song but Oh Daddy
Can we get a special 6 category for certain albums
Los mejores
MNIAMMM
Rumours doesn't have any of my favorite songs from Fleetwood Mac (like "Landslide", "Everywhere" and "Little Lies") but it does have 11 near-perfect pop songs.
No argument one of the greatest albums of all time. Truly unbeatable.
this is easily one of the best albums of all time. despite knowing basically all of the songs, shockingly, this was my first time listening to it in full. religious experience, may i say. my only qualm with this album is that silver springs isn’t on the OG, which i will never forgive lindsay buckingham for
My all time favorite Fleetwood Mac Album!! I love Stevie Nicks!
bangerrrrr tis a classic that everyone knows for a reason. the epitome of a roadtrip through western montana while chowing down on cheese cracker sandwhiches. drinkwise its like a cranberry sprite mixed in with a dash of vanilla ice cream and festiveness. fears getting sweet and reptitive but mostly on POINT. gonna have to say 9.12/10
Ok, this will be easy. I already know and like every song on this album. Thoughts while listening ... It is interesting to note that every song on this one could have been a hit single by any other band. The quality is just great throughout. Good musicianship, good singing (3 different singers), good production, good lyrics, good vibe. Since I've heard this so many times and it is so familiar, it has actually just become almost like background music to me. But upon actually thinking about / analyzing it, one thing that makes this cool is each song isn't a carbon copy of the other songs. You can recognize each song within a few seconds. They change up the arrangements to keep it interesting. For example: "Never Going Back Again" is just an acoustic guitar and singer (Buckingham), "Songbird" is just a piano and a singer (McVie). And on other songs with full instrumentation - they do it in such a way that they leave space in the music for quiet moments, or parts featuring one instrument. As an example, "The Chain" does this very well I think - even featuring the bass prominently in part of the song before it builds into a crescendo. They weave in the different instruments very well where you can hear it all clearly and appreciate each one - without all of it just becoming an overpowering cacophony of sound. Funny story - One time, my nephew was picking me up at the airport to take me to his parent's (my older brother and sister-in-law's) place. I knew this album was VERY popular with my brother and his wife back in the day. I noticed after I got into the car he popped this into the CD player. I made a slightly sarcastic comment that "You know, you don't have to play Fleetwood Mac just because your uncle got in the car. Feel free to play whatever you like, I like hearing new things". He laughed and said - "Yeah, I guess I just figured mostly everyone likes this." Yeah - pretty much - haha! I do think that story sums up the downside of this album though. It's all very good, it's all very inoffensive, it's all very well done - BUT not one of these songs would be in the running for my "favorite song of all time" and the album wouldn't crack the top 10 of albums I must have if I was stuck on a desert island. It's greatness is in the fact that every song is very good and agreeable. It's fun to listen to and not bland - but it doesn't make me think or feel that much. As a comparison - Stevie Nicks' best song (in my opinion) is "Landslide" which isn't on this album - but that one makes you think and feel more than any of these songs. I think this is basically why this is ranked #1 on this site - it's all fun and very agreeable to everyone - but not breaking new ground or challenging expectations. Fleetwood Mac was blessed with having multiple excellent songwriters, multiple singers with unique voices and very talented musicians and arrangers. Good on them for giving us some great stuff that has stood the test of time and is still finding new listeners in new generations. That's really hard to do. If anyone wants to dive a little deeper into the musical creativity behind this, check out the episode of the Song Exploder podcast where Lindsey Buckingham goes into details behind the recording of the song "Go Your Own Way". It's cool to hear the artist himself explain why they did what they did and how. It gives good insight into the artistry involved. Liked songs on Spotify: 11/11 (perfect album) Rating: 5/5
Not giving this a 5 is probably a sin.
perfection
IMAGINE not giving this 5 stars
I’ve been getting some very good albums recently. An easy 5 star. Every song is amazing. How an album so good can be made when the band where all falling out with each other and battling drugs blows my tiny mind
easiest 5 stars yet
This is another one of those perfect albums. Each song is better than the last and it just has a wonderful vibe. Every song is a banger and it's been a real long time since I've listened to this album.
Rating: 5./5 Short Review: Beautiful, bitter, intimate, and impossibly well-crafted. An album made by people emotionally destroying each other while somehow sounding flawless together. Every song feels personal without losing its universal pull. Favorite Track: “Dreams.” Weightless on the surface, quietly devastating underneath. Stevie Nicks sounds detached and heartbroken at the same time.
Rumours was made by a band falling apart. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks splitting. John and Christine McVie divorcing. All of them still showing up, still recording, turning the wreckage into something. The result is one of the most hit-dense albums ever made — "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", "The Chain", "Gold Dust Woman" — almost every track landed. I listened to it in the car, driving my daughter to daycare and back from a Familienfest. When "Go Your Own Way" came on, she said: mama always listens to this song. Then she wanted it on repeat. A song about a painful split, my kid in the back seat, a family event at the end of the road. I didn't say anything. What would you say? The patterns keep finding me. 5/5.
This album is so great!
ts gas
lol
Had already started the day with this album. Love it. Classic. I think the Tiktok guy riding the skateboard while drinking cranberry juice, helped revitalized this album for the youth. This one always makes me happy.
Every song is a hit except for "Oh Daddy". As much as I try to like that one… I can't. It’s a fantastic album that is sung and mastered almost perfectly. Every time I revisit it, it's great.
I mean, what more do you want? What more do you need than an album where every track is a lasting masterpiece that holds as much relevance today as the day it was released. This album will still be played 100 years from now and people will still love it.
Excellent.
Chock full of monster hits.
выйти на улицу после этого альбома было волшебно, если честно было безумно ярко, но холодный ветер успокаивал жару на коже.
owns
Great album
All right. I confess. This was a great album. Five stars
Everything has been written to death about this. It's a perfect pop album, perhaps as important and timeless as anything the great classical composers of history have written before. People focus, ironically (or coincidentally) on the "rumors" surrounding the band members rather than the music first. No, they were not all having sex with each other, but rather having huge problems regarding heartbreak with each other, dealing with divorce, separation, and entering new relationships. Yes, there was cocaine and alcohol and hedonism but not really out of joy, but trying to dull the pain, perhaps clinging to the nostalgia of the 60s counterculture and bohemian times, slipping away in the narrators' minds. This album beautifully celebrates everything that is cruel and beautiful about being human and connecting to one another, and time that slips away where we simply lose connections to wear and tear and time itself. The content is often dismal, they weren't necessarily very likeable people, yet their approach was to celebrate life through music and to keep on going to make one of the most sincere albums we've ever heard. That 5 and the fact that it's the top rated album on this site is not a coincidence.I don't even like Fleetwood Mac all that much and this is one my favorite albums ever. This is something that brings even the bitterest extreme music listener to tears. Shimmering guitars, heavy bass and drums, dense and compact production, happy sounding songs that are depressing and sad sounding songs that are uplifting. This tugs the heartstrings and toys with emotions all the way through. And those melodies are just perfect - every song is a hit. I think this may the only album where I've heard every song on commercial radio. They made something greater than themselves, and all we have is to thank them for it year after year. 50 years on and nary a grey hair in sight (musically speaking). Plus, it gave us the most sold album (ever?) with lavatory handles used as balls on the front cover. So there's that, too.
also the goat. 2 hits in 3 days is insane
Nevermind 1001, this one is more like 101.
I have the vinyl, because if there's an apocolypse and I don't have spotify anymore, I wouldn't want to live without this one.
Excellent album, full of classics, The Chain is a masterpiece.
Wow. Never knew all of these songs were by Fleetwood Mac, much less in the same album! Easy 5.
It's Rumours! What more can you say. I echo every positive sentiment about it praised from the heavens - nothing but hits the whole way through. Fav tracks: Dreams, Go Your Own Ways, The Chain, Oh Daddy
One of the most no-skip albums of all time. A classic for good reasons, if you ask me. Every song is just good. Faves: Second Hand News, Dreams, Never Going Back Again, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, I Don't Want to Know
One of the best albums of the 70's with one of the best back stories in rock history.
Every time I hear the chain my brain goes "The Chain is worth at LEAST three babies" https://redbelles.tumblr.com/post/684365701636603904/this-is-immensely-funny-to-me
Now I’ll admit that, being my contrarian self, I was quite open to the idea of not giving the very trendy album at the top of the ranking charts on this site 5*. However, it just is a brilliant album isn’t it? The well known discord behind its making runs through the whole album, shaping every song in some way but most prominently Go Your Own Way and You Make Loving Fun. Unlike sprawling successor Tusk, that fractious atmosphere is channelled into a tight and well-crafted 40 minutes of music, quite the achievement. And finally, I’m sure any British F1 fans of the right age will be taken back to a favourite race or season by The Chain (2009 for me, Clive).
The greatest pop/soft-rock album of all time? It’s certainly got to be up there. Eleven tracks, all fantastic, it’s practically a greatest hits album on its own. ‘Dreams’, ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Go Your Own Way’, ‘The Chain’, ‘You Make Loving Fun’ and ‘Gold Dust Woman’ are all among the greatest songs Fleetwood Mac ever made. ‘Oh Daddy’ is probably the weakest track, but even that is pretty good. The only way it could have been improved is if they hadn’t made the baffling decision to omit the brilliant ‘Silver Springs’, but even so this album is undoubtedly worth 5 stars.
This is as good as pop music gets.
4.5/5
Sometimes I want to be edgy and claim that this album is overrated and deserves backlash over how popular it is. Sometimes it’s tempting to say that the previous self-titled album which represents the rebirth of the band post addition of Buckingham and Nicks is more pure and better. But then I give it one more top-to-bottom listen and know that it’s undeniable. It’s a legendary album for a reason and worthy of all the praise and more.
This album has so many hits, it's almost unfathomable. Top notch.
An all-time favourite. No notes, no skips.
70’s Rock ⭐️Silver Springs/The Chain/Go Your Own Way
Great album. Songs of the heart, love, chemistry, deceit and heartbreak.
Classic
My aunt was raised in California in the 70’s and she told me that when this album came out she spent a weekend at the Colorado River with her friend’s family and “listened to that album the whole weekend, soaking up the sun, learning to water ski and cranking up the tunes.” Doesn’t that sound so lovely you could throw up? Anyway, 5 stars.
Increíble
LOVE THIS ALBUM!! I used to think it was "grocery store music" but I was just a fool as a child. I own this album CD and have it loaded in my car player right now :) 9/10
Intellectually I know that this is the greatest album of all time, but it really is incredibly good.
Banger after banger
Love every song except for Songbird
Bro my favorite album of theirs! So good! Probably one of the best albums of all time! Such classic and lasting songs!
I think this album is one of the best albums ever made, hosting many hits!!!
Classic, everyone’s heard it.
I feel like this is a staple in every millennial’s early record collection because you could find it for $1 at every thrift store. But the thing is, it’s really fucking good. I knew this was one of the highest rated albums on this list, and I am absolutely smashing that 5 button too. Just about every song is an all time classic hit, and the ones that aren’t probably made it to the radio or something at some point in its history. It’s just a phenomenal album, no skips, just greatness.
Banger album!
Unfortunately for everyone involved, this album is the best argument for infidelity, heavy drug use, and bad relationships. What can I say about Rumors; it’s just a perfect pop album, nearly every song is a banger, the chain is just amazing. They managed to make a pop fun anthem for divorce in go your own way. Lyrically depressing, musically exhilarating, morally dubious. An incredible record that made everyone who made it vastly richer and worse people.
10. I knew half the songs already, but the other half are amazing too, no skips, easy listen, added a couple new ones to the playlist
I wish anyone loved me like people love this album. Listen, it’s end-to-end bangers. It's like every Fleetwood Mac song you know, even if you didn't fully realize they were Fleetwood Mac songs. Did I need Lindsey Buckingham doing all that 'bow bow bow bow' bullshit on "Second Hand News"? No, of course not. Did you even remember he did that? I doubt it. "Dreams" is the very next song and that's followed by "Never Going Back Again", "Don't Stop", and "Go Your Own Way"... that first track could have been audio of Lindsey Buckingham taking a messy dump and you would have forgotten all about it in 15 minutes. And there's still "The Chain" and "You Make Loving Fun" coming a few tracks later (let's ignore "Songbird"). Christ, leave some rock n roll for the rest of us!
PERFECT
I think about everything has been said about this album. The live version of the chain is insane (in a good and very dramatic way)
All bangers. All timeless. No notes.
I’ve put off listening to this album for the first time ever since I found out how highly rated it is on this site so I wanted to hear it once it came up randomly on the generator. And needless to say, it's pretty darn good. I’ve listened to half of these songs before so only the other half was new to me. As a whole, it’s really something. My only critique is that it ends with the last two songs slightly weaker than I’d hoped, but I’m only being critical since it holds #1 right now. I do think Abbey Road and a couple other albums are better, but this isn’t far behind. Monumental album.
So much heat in this one
What more is there to say? It’s everything. Top Songs: Second Hand News, Dreams, The Chain, You Make Loving Fun
I'm sure everyone's heard most of these songs hundreds of times. There's a good reason for that. This album is 5-star from start to finish. Buckingham and Nicks bolster a pro rhythm section with magnificent guitar work and vocals and perfect polished songwriting. My favorite tracks are Second Hand News, which is not only one of the best opening album tracks ever but also a near-perfect pop song, and Never Going Back Again, a delightful guitar piece with sublime close-harmony vocals. Christine McVie's Don't Stop and Songbird are beautiful as usual too.
Phenomenal, timeless album! Songwriting is ace. There's a lot of emotional vulnerability and harmony throughout. So many quality tracks! There's a reason it's one of the best selling records ever.
I mean what can you say? The greatest pop album ever recorded.
fantastic album already heard it before but really good.
One of the greatest albums ever made. Full stop. What else needs to be said?
I have never once seeked out a Fleetwood Mack song on my own but I know about three-quarters of this album. The vast majority of these songs are great as well. One could easily argue that the Media made me like Fleetwood Mack. I listened to this with my wife & during The Chain, she cited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as where she heard it beforehand. Then we got into a discussion about music in movies & whatnot. I wouldn't say Rumours is No Skip because I didn't really care for Songbird. The hits are the hits. Side A slaps, as the kids say. Side B less so but still strong. The first time I ever heard Gold Dust Woman was Hole's cover. 5
Great album
Classic album!
Esse albúm é top d+, sensação de fumar um jambo e transar na piscina em uma terça ensolarada.
Un clásico. Nota: 9/10
Fantastique même après 1000 écoutes… et je me réjouis déjà pour la 1001 fois!
Favorite Track: The Chain
Pretty much a perfect album. Every song is a hit!
Every song is a hit! Aside from 'Oh daddy' but thats not bad. This is one of the best albums made. Great listen.
This is so good. Masterpiece.
I don't like Dreams (or really Oh Daddy for that matter), and Silver Springs absolutely should have been on the album proper, but it seems awfully fussy to take off a star when the thing is essentially as perfectly crafted and consistent as we all know it is.
Flawless album, really hard to say stuff about it tho, cuz what hasn't already been said? Truly the most beautiful car crash ever. Go Your Own Way was my fav song of the album. The Chain and Don't Stop were my other highlights. (shout out Silver Springs tho cuz it's not officially on the album but it's one of the best songs ever)
Insane Silver Springs wasn’t on the original album.
Probably the greatest pop album ever recorded by people not called John, Paul, George or Ringo. Of course it comes with a built in mythology. The break ups! The cocaine! The time they spent! Again, only The Beatles with The White Album and Let it Be can compete. The studio production and the performances are as close to perfect as these things get. The harmonies are stunning. When John McVie and Mick Fleetwood lock in their rhythm section is peerless. To be picky, you wonder if the glossy sheen of the production isn't making a few of the songs seem better than they really are. And people who find Lindsey Buckingham's voice a bit annoying might just have a point. But this is the 70s served up on a beautiful silver platter.
I’d give this a 6/5 if possible
I mean it's fleetwood Mac of course I like them. I haven't listened to this album in full surprisingly, so this will be nice. But it's the Big Mac of course I'll love it. Why are they telling me to bounce on it. Starting off strong with my least favourite track. Nice. Dreams, I mean, it's dreams. What more is there to say. It's dreams. What you have, and what you love. What you had, and what you lost. Wow. I am listening to the super deluxe so I can hear silver springs. Sue me. Me when I'm never going back again. Come round and see me again. If your life was bad to you just think what tomorrow will do?? Be even worse?? Idk Mac. Yesterday is gone that is how it works. I will go my own way. Stevie nicks I am always on your side but this song is fuckin insane. Lindsey you're on thin ice but I'll let it slide. They sound like they're lesbians. Stevie and Lindsey. Like come on. Songbird just kinda there man idk. The chain being a masterpiece. Yes. Fuck anyone who saw this live all I have it fucking sombr and addison rae bro. What is this. Do you believe in miracles?? Idk man. Me when I don't wanna know. Me with chemistry lowkey. Why is Oh Daddy actually good. I really did not expect to like a song called oh daddy. Rock ON gold dust woman. Oh silver springs. Hold on I gotta listen to the live. Oh Lindsey you dickhead. Favourite: Gold Dust Woman/Dreams/Oh Daddy/Go Your Own Way/SILVER SPRINGS Least favourite: Second Hand News
Sublime. Perfect album.
5 Absolutely perfect album
one of my favourite albums of all time, feels like a roadtrip with friends in the early summer
love it love it
Excellent
Even the lesser known songs are fantastic.
On vinyl
Another super classic, I liked the rest of the album quite a bit after the great Dreams, Chain, Don't Stop and Own Way. You Make Loving Fun was good, it was all good.
Audible "hell yeah" from me upon opening the page today. I think this is the first album I'm actually intimately familiar with from start to finish in my current memory bank. Instant 5/5, Fleetwood Mac rules and this is their best album by a mile.
Awesome album, enjoyed it the whole way through.
Surprised how disjointed the album is, but it's also a masterpiece. I've never listened to it as an album, but I know every song.
Fantastic album, with several songs that have had enduring popularity.
This is a really good album though it was well written and really was put well together the instrument were really good. The guitar and piano really got me feeling stuff. I wanna say the singer are really talented and got me thinking what a great time it was to be alive at the time.I would give it a solid rating of an 8.0 out of 10
I mean, it's an absolutely timeless album. Every song is great (will say though that Don't Stop has aged quite a bit to my ears though, with its piano and synths - definitely in that category of music along with Foreigner and Boston where if I never hear it again, I won't be sad), especially tracks like Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, and Gold Dust Woman. Normally I have more to say about albums like this, but honestly don't. It's just great.
Quintessential Fleetwood Mac- an absolute classic. Everyone should listen to it.
What else can be said? The mythology of the band can obscure the music, and maybe the decades of listening to the music can obscure the music. But the music!
truly heartbreaking realising that silver springs is only on the super deluxe version of this album
I think the guy won this battle. impressive band for band battle on both ends though
Huge W - 4 all timer songs in one album
One of my all time favorite albums!!! Was so happy to see it come up. I listened to the whole super deluxe version this time and that was also very good. I wish Silver Springs wouldve been included in the original because that is also such an amazing song, but alas. I used to not like Oh Daddy and it was the one song on the album that I thought was meh, but it started to grow on me this last listen. My favorite is I Dont Wanna Know just because it's so fun, but The Chain and Dreams are also great listens.
Classic
One of my favorite albums, along with Bare Trees. Classic rock
