The intro song is quite nice
Listened Before? Y This is an amazing album. I picked it up on cassette at a thrift store in the 90's and listened to it religiously for a few years. I haven't listened since I got rid of the car with the cassette player in it. I absolutely love it, and it's one of my early exposures to punk. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: London Calling
Punk is nice
Had not heard this all the way through before. Seriously good. The first album is stronger than the second. This is an excellent collection of varied songs by a band forging a path to set themselves far apart from others at the time.
Well, I've been wrong about The Clash for a long time. I never understood why people consider them "the most important band" ever, and still don't get that, but I always thought they were just another punk-adjacent band who scored a few hits and were blown way out of proportion. I was expecting to not enjoy this listen very much. Turns out, this is one of those rare instances where the hit songs are my least favorite on the album (not entirely, but there's a lot more here than the hits). I was really struck by the quality of the songcraft, which was a major surprise, and also by how tight this band is. I wrote them off as being average players at best, and they decidedly are not (the drummer is really good). It's funny, the image this band fostered and the mythos surrounding them dissuaded me from checking them out, and I had a mis-perception of who they are. All that said, this is not entirely in my wheelhouse, but this is a 4-star album, and I have a new take on this band.
This album is definitely a winner for me. When I switched to CDs, this was one of the first I added to my collection. I dig this album so much. However, this listen was my first time doing so with headphones. There is so much phonic texture in the background of the first track London Calling (particularly after the 2-min mark) that I never heard before! Maybe b/c I never heard the remastered versions? This album was the first to clue me in to that ska vibe, which I love. While reading a bit about this album, I was sickened to learn that Rudy Giuliani used "Rudie Can't Fail" in his 2008 campaign run. I get excited hearing Mick Jones and thinking about his evolution to BAD (The Globe better be on this list!), who I always enjoyed even more than the Clash. Lost in the Supermarket, The Clampdown, Death or Glory...oh, aw, aw, aw, ow, ow...London, I'm answering on the first ring! Album cover: Long loved this "font" but it wasn't until today I learned that this is hand lettering! Now I love the cover even more.
Way to tired to think of anything creative to say about this. Great late 70s punk rock album and band. Have never listened or heard of them before, but did enjoy my first listen.
Lots of bouncy tunes I enjoyed. It's hard to separate London Calling the track from the rest of the album when it's so well known from indie nights and such.
Pretty cool, vocal are a little off to me but idk
Pretty good!
I was really surprised because I was expecting this to be a dark gloomy album based on the title track which I have heard many times but the genre is more ska punk/ reggae. I really dig it and see why the album gets the praise it does! Reminds me of Parquet Courts and early Modest Mouse Favorite tracks: Spanish Bombs London Calling The card cheat Wrong Em Boyo 4.5/5
Shockingly modern, honestly sounds like it could have been released this year.
I found myself enjoying this album a decent amount
Onhan tää tosi kova. Tuplalevy ilman heikkoa kohtaa.
Klassikko!
A classic. Love it
started off a bit boring but kicked up about 30% of the way through. bangers on bangers
Solid album. The first and last songs are absolute bangers and everything in between ain’t to bad either. 4.5 rounded down
A little long bur consistently excellent throughout
3.5/5. This was good, not amazing, however. Definitely some of the better punk I've listened to. I would have no issue listening to this again.
4.75
Great rock that improves your mood when you listen to it. Interesting lyrics as well, but I didn't pay much attention to them. The music is great regardless. Really enjoyed this album.
Legendaran ali ne i najbolji
I'll go (straight) to hell for not giving this five stars. It has five absolute classics on it - Train in Vain, Rudy Can't Fail, Guns of Brixton, Spanish Bombs and the title track, but a lot of flatly produced dull rock songs which you can tell would be amazing live but have been ironed out to bland rockism by a shit producer (who could also have done with allowing a few of these to be perfectly fine b sides rather than including them on here). It is brilliant. Just a bit or editing and maybe not giving Mick Jones sign off on the producer and it'd be enjoyable all the way through...
A truly authentic sound guided by one of the best all-time front men. Niiiice.
Was already familiar with a few tracks, overall enjoyed it a lot.
Good stuff, I like
Wicked cool. Unique sound, and the perfect name for a rhythm guitar-wielding frontman.
This is what I call "listenable punk", although it really doesn't have that hard of an edge. This is punk by guys who can actually play their instruments and write music. I think that the Clash were/are the British equivalent of Bruce Springsteen: they spoke to a population that was blue collar and felt disenfranchised. But as much as I love the Clash, I have to question any group that is beloved by Rolling Stone magazine. Just saying....
Great album from start to finish and a few songs I didn't know were there's, like Train in Vain. 8/10.
Really, really strong - it's THE The Clash. Not quite a 5 but verrrrry close
It hurts when I piss. It's been going on for months. It all began after another successful gang bang with the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff. They completed pebbledashed me with jizz. So much so that I dropped a pint of lucozade on myself. It was impossible to tell what was jizz and what was lucozade. I got home later that evening, washed the jizz of the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff off my face and body and just started pissing blood everywhere. The Clash played live in the background. Joe Strummer remarked about how much jizz and blood there was. I told him to shut the fuck up, because I'm well hard.
It's The Clash. Very good, but it does all tend to sound similar to me.
I would give a 4.5 if it was shorter, there were a lot of mid tracks, the other ones were really good. I also felt a bit of a lack when it comes to instruments - almost no synths and pianos, only guitars, drums and a sax/trumpet here and there.
Really mfing good
waaaaay more reggaer that i expected liked it a lot
pretty good. Not as good as I was expecting, but good!
I've heard all of London Calling more than once, and several tracks on this album many times. "London Calling", "Lost in the Supermarket", and "Train in Vain" were my favorite tracks from this re-listen, but several other tracks were close behind. "London Calling" has a driving energy that makes it a great way to start the album. I'm likely to re-listen to this album again, and there are no tracks that I would skip. I would recommend this album to almost anyone.
A great album, ahead of their time. This album would fit right into the indie scene today. Not a bad song on here. I will be listening to this album often. Favorite song: London Calling
Classicassooo Rock classico / jazz / reggae boa pra dar uma animada curti!
Bom.
Instead of listening to this - which is fine but frankly, I'm tired of it after decades - I listened to Give Em Enough Rope. This is still a worthwhile album, even though it's post-punk Clash.
4.0 + I don't often reach for it but I do know this to be a truly great record. So many amazing songs on here - aside from the big hits, I also love "Lost in the Supermarket" and "Koka Kola."
A pretty masterful bit of Clash here
Another classic album that I have heard so much about but never listened to. I think a day isnt sufficient to digest this so I am going to relisten to it again over the coming weeks. Such an influential and important album that I am happy to have finally listened to.
This is a pleasant surprise. Was expecting a punk record, but this is really a Punk/Rock/Pop/Reggea(ish) album with quite a lot variation. Doesn't blow me away, and is maybe a bit longer than it ought to be, but is a good very album nonetheless. 4/5
This album is great. There are some real bangers here. I've been listening to a lot of punk recently. This is one of the canonical punk albums. I'm not sure I think it reallllly delivers but i could listen to this a lot.
8/10
Already know this one, great album
Mostly good
Punky
The seminal Clash LP. It's been some time since I last listened to this album. Sounds great after all these years.
Great Lyrics, you can hear some of the influence on today’s artists. Best part is the original sound where it mixes pop, punk and what sounds like a drunken anthem about grocery shopping
classic
broken guitar go brrrrrrr
Tolle, wegweisende Mischung aus Zärtlichkeit, Verzweiflung und Galgenhumor, gewandet in Punk, Pop, Ska und Saufpunk.
Was going well until the sax Has gone extremely well since This is really good
Surprisingly diverse sounds. Can see why it's a classic.
Added!
Pretty sure this was my first Clash album. I really enjoyed them as a teen and saw them in concert (maybe '84?). I haven't listened to them in quite a while but it still holds up nicely for me. I like their blend of styles on this album and others. They didn't stay in one lane, and while that can sometimes backfire for other bands it works well for The Clash.
Pretty good album. This is definitely something I could see myself singing along to in a crowded bar. Or croozin 'round in my car singing along. Overall a good listen!
Good. Has raegaee tones.
Definitely a lot more of a reggae influence on this record. Surprisingly, I think it goes well (not a huge reggae fan). Also, for a double album, it goes by very quickly. Love a lot of little touches on this album, from the piano and horn sections to the gritty punk sections. Favorite tracks: "Spanish Bombs", "Wrong 'Em Boyo", "Rudie Can't Fail", "Brand New Cadillac"
Solid album
very political
8/10
Lekkere rock. ga nog eens luisteren
October 15, 2021 This was good (unsurprisingly)! Energetic and an appropriate length.
Some absolutely killer tracks in here, including a few I don’t remember hearing before. It is too long though, and the filler tracks aren’t great. Just about holding it together for 4 stars.
A classic for a reason. Super catchy and great production work. This doesn't have the flatness/bluntness that a lot of punk albums of this era do.
Update : J'aime bien
Good energy, liked most of the songs
london calling clash is like a band I feel like I should like, but some of their songs just don't work for me. it's odd.
Rätt nice
More varied than I was expecting!
Surprisingly varied, not just punk
Overall liked the album. Would definitely listen again. Much more mellow than what one would think of as "punk rock." Like the reggae sounds as well
This is already 1000x better than the first album I got by The Clash; their self-titled album was an absolute disaster, gave it a 1. This album I'm even considering a 5. After the guns of brixton.. maybe not. But I love the Elvis Presley album cover. I wonder why they took that design. The expanded material is not very good though. 3.5 towards a 4
Always heard the big hits. Surprised by depth of album in terms of solid tunes.
London Calling, Spanish Bombs, Clampdown, Guns of Brixton, Death or Glory, Rudie Can't Fail, Wrong 'Em Boyo Худшие: Brand New Cadillac, The Right Profile, Lover's Rock, Revolution Rock, ну и в принципе последний диск из 4 очень слабый, можно было бы оставить закрывашку Train in Vain, да и всё.
Now here's a familiar face. Our second Clash album, and what's widely acknowledged as their masterpiece. I definitely enjoyed this more than the previous Clash album, and I can understand the hype. Though for me it's not as consistently impressive or interesting as I was hoping, especially given the length. Still, some excellent cuts on here, including a few recognizable hits. I may not LOVE it, but I'll co-sign the classic status. Favorite tracks: Train in Vain, Spanish Bombs, London Calling, Rudie Can't Fail, Death or Glory. Album art: Definitely iconic. A play on the Elvis Presley cover of yore, which I'm sure we'll get on here. The font and colors are obviously great, and the guitar smash pic is nice too. 4/5
Classic
gread bass lines iconic tunes. very good
top tier
OOOH I like it
Classic
Glad to have a few decades pass - I definitely didn't appreciate this album in its time. The Clash we're often mislabeled as merely punk, which does them a disservice - this album in particular is incredibly diverse - credit to the songwriting and in particular musically. A bit of everything from rock to raga to rockabilly - all while pleasantly not autotuned 😊 8/10 4 stars
Solid punk rock album with great tracks such as "London Calling", "The Guns Of Brixton" and "Train In Vain"
subversive and great
Good album. Lots of different styles, which I was not expecting.
Really really liked this, knew a few of the songs but had never listened to the album all the way through
4/5 very good album
I was familiar with some of these songs, and my band used to play Train in Vain. Decent album but a little uneven so far. The variety in styles is nice.
Good shiz. Such good energy
Like the reggae/ ska through this album - Awesome brass. Not the punk sound of earlier Clash, but lyrical content still hits (e.g Guns of Brixton), though Strummer can hard to understand at times. Train in Vain is such a tuuune.
There's no doubting the legendary status of this album, so I was keen to figure out why I wasn't a bigger fan of The Clash but after listening I still don't really know. I don't dislike it but it just doesn't massively excite me. I can't put my finger on it. Still worthy of 8/10
Great album that I haven't listened to in years. Got a few of their classic hits and some forgotten gems.
Good album. Buena energía
Highlights: Lost In The Supermarket, Clampdown It's brash, loud, and rude...it's punk rock, what else is there to say?
lost in the supermarket 👌
Punk rock roots, energetic vibes and interesting sounds for punk genre
Really dug this one. Surprised me since The Clash never struck me as a band I would enjoy. Solid stuff lads. Favorite tracks: “London Calling,” “Lost In the Supermarket,” and “Clampdown”
Punk rock. Reggae. Interesante. Bueno
Always nice
Classic. Joe Strummer's voice is electric.
good
In my top 10, already. An absolute classic album!!
Good album, never actually listened to it in full before. Can definitely hear the influence that it had on the ska scene.
Production: 14/20 Songwriting: 15/20 Innovation: 13/20 Bangers: 20/20 Emotional response: 13/20 =75 It stands up!
Good album overall, Best songs -London Calling, Clampdown, Train in Vain, Lost in the Supermarket.
One of my top 100 personal favorites for sure. I love punk, hate ska. This kinda walks that line enough to be an easy listen. Clampdown has been on any playlist I've made since I was about 14. Death or Glory keeps creeping into said playlists as well. Guns of Brixton a sleeper-banger. I don't understand what's with late-70s groups referencing the same Rudy/Rudi as a loser who needs to get his shit together. Train in Vain a less known classic but a classic. Jimmy Jazz something I mutter around work a lot. Had a friend name his kid "Strummer" which annoyed me, but the album holds up like a beast, and a nice lead into some of the best punk/metal ever made in the 1980s. Still prefer the Pistols.
I know every note of every song having listened to this thousands of times as a young teen. One of the first albums I bought myself or asked for as an Xmas/Bday gift. I remember first seeing it in the window of the record store before getting it and being excited that "my" music was on display, as I loved their 1st two albums. Ultimately, I wasn't ready to follow The Clash all the way through this to Sandinista and love it as much as their earlier stuff. I wanted to love it and pretended at 12 to love it like a 5 star but secretly it was never more than 4.
Jimmy Jazz isn't very punk Definitely doesn't fit my definition of punk Way more reggae than expected
Esta guai, sorprenentment.
Fun album, not at all what I expected.
3.5/5. Funky and jazzy, electric guitar, flows between ambient and crashing whiny vocals
3.5, I like it. The album has it's highlights and low lights. If I went back and listened, I'd probably skip 1/3 of the songs, kinda dig one 1/3rd, and really like the last 1/3rd.
O grew up with this. Iconic album, revolutionary for that time...beginning of punk music. Love it!
Great record
Probably my first great find. London calling the song probably isn't my favourite song as it's overplayed but the rest of the album is really great
liked it
nice altough london calling and guns of brixton have a completely different sound than the rest and those are my favorites
I've liked this album for yeaaaarrrrs now!
Great alb, not the most technical stuff but the raw energy makes the band
So glad I got to finally listen to the whole thing! It did not disappoint, and I will add it to my library. Very energetic.
À la bien, tu connais déjà
Ok album, knew first and last song but will not listen again (thanks)
Bom album, achei meio repetitivo, mas é legalzinho.
6.5/10
Hot take—its just ok
Couple bangers
me aburri lolz
A classic album I’ve never been able to get into. I really like some songs: train in vain, death or glory, guns of Brixton. But there’s also a lot which I found forgettable. I think people who adore the white album also love albums like this, in that it’s the wide variety that’s the charm for them even if all the tracks don’t hit. That’s not really me. Additionally, I don’t really like Strummers voice.
Thought I would enjoy this a lot more than I did, London calling such an iconic song, and they couldn’t maintain it through the whole album
I respect it more than I enjoy it
Good album. Lots of influence on future artists.
It’ good rock but i dont get the hype about it.
Not my vibe but I see why people would like it
🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Having already heard "London Calling," "Rudie Can't Fail," and "Train in Vain (Stand By Me)," I was expecting between a 3 and a 3.5. Dead on, for once, because every other song sounds pretty much the same. That's sort of harsh, but I really wanted to like this more given how extensive its influences are and how extensive its influence on music going forward would be. They have so much potential, and I guess I was expecting to hear more of it expressed—I think my favorite songs were all the ones that stood out a bit, but none really beat "Train In Vain" for me. I hate the posturing of Punk, so all the reviews that are calling the Clash a "boy band" or "nepo babies" aren't people I exactly want to side with, but also... I mean, they're not that far off, especially considering how close to early brit-pop this seems. Still a fun listen, just a bit overlong for something so samey. 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities) | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing
I don't think this needed to be over an hour long... and what was up with the ska! I actually liked Guns of Brixton decently, but I wouldn't listen to the rest again. Not objectively "bad" though
Much like any great trend in Britain, this album overstayed its welcome. Somehow this album feels much longer than its hour runtime.
it’s giving pop punk
Norml
no es mi tipo de música
solid innit. London Calling (the song) is certainly my favourite track. I think it's very 'approachable' too in a way that makes it obvious why it's the one song from here that you hear all over the place, but it being such a good song is just as important. Revolution Rock was... kind of cringey, I can't think of a better way of putting it. I suppose it was worth a shot but I think they should've left this to people who could pull it off better lol.
Middle of the road for me
Liked the album and does have incredible influence yet there are just some forgettable songs imo ill need to listen again. Quite an overrated album musically, high 3
I think I just hate this guys voice. I'm not usually that direct in one of these reviews, but it's been a secret shame of mine for years that London Calling has never done that much for me. I, a self proclaimed 'punk' in high school and 'music nerd' now don't listen to The Clash recreationally. Fuck, man, I've tried! I don't need my punks to use saxophones or stay in key, but that sort of thing doesn't turn me off either. What am I not seeing? Why does everybody I know tell me this is the greatest album of all time? I still don't really get it, and I've been smashing my head against the stage trying to figure it out. The 'punk' thing to do (and the thing I did in high school) would be to trash the album, give it a one and a smart-ass review, and put on some Black Flag. But then again, posing as an unaffected, chortling doesn't seem very punk (or very punk), so I have to give credit where it's due: this is a good album filled with good songs. They're clever, they're biting, they chug along just fast enough to where you're not bored but slow enough to let the wordplay sink in. It's never really sunk into me, maybe with the exception of "Lost in The Supermarket." I hum that song everytime I'm getting tailed by a guy with a 'nam hat in Walmart. Can't say I love the reggae stuff the album does, but that's probably just me. Alright, here's where I get bold. (Christ, nobody's reading this anyhow.) Beyond the album's honest to god strengths, I think this album gets a lot of praise because it is very hip to have a favorite punk album, and it's even hipper to have a favorite punk album that you can show a girl you want to get with. The cover makes a great poster, the record makes a great shelf piece. I don't think ALL of the album's hype is phony, but I can only throw on an album so many times to try and discover its hidden genius so many times. 10,000,000 music nerds, Rolling Stones writers, and douche-canoes with Pearl Jam tattoos can't be wrong.... right?
After many years, I still don't get why this album is on so many greatest-ever lists. It's fine. It's definitely adventurous -- there's lots of punk-ish energy at the core and the band explore lots of styles. They can play decently. The singing isn't great, but it's very much within the norm of punk and rock. I just don't find myself jamming along with most of these songs, besides Clampdown and maybe Train in Vain. No resonance. It's fine but nothing more. The rest of y'all can go on enjoying it, but I don't see why.
like it's cool but an hour omg 2.6
I have never been a fan of this Clash album, and I think that Combat Rock is much more powerful. Still this one is classic
Sehr abwechsungsreiche Songs Zufrieden
First clash album. Good but not likely to revisit.
so so
London Calling contains many tracks that are on my personal playlists. I like the loose feeling of this album but this ain't more than 3 star overall.
#395 / 1089 Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❌ (probably) While I've got nothing against The Clash, I've had enough of them, especially the few hits that have been played to death. Before midway through I was fed up and didn't feel like plowing on. Their brand of music is often labeled punk rock, but I'd called it alt rock instead, due to a very eclectic mix of styles. Weak 3/5
solid 3.5, se vuelve un poco repetitivo pero igual tiene unas buenas (lost in the supermarket, wrong em boyo, etc)
I don’t love punk and I think the title track does most of the heavy lifting here (it is fantastic to be fair)
songs I enjoyed: brand new Cadillac the right profile lost in the supermarket train in vain (stand by me)
I like the title track and Stand by Me a lot. I knew both of them coming in, but nothing else really stood out as spectacular
Really enjoyed this. Not nearly as hard or as raw as I was expecting it to be. It’s odd how the hits sound so different from the other tracks. They aren’t bad but they knew what would be popular on the radio.
Maybe a little over-long, but this is how punk is supposed to be sound. Leaves the Sex Pistols in the dust
Good
Aluksi aattelin, että vähän pettymys vaikka en tiedä oikeestaan mitä ees odotin, mutta ihan hyvä kokonaisuus vaikka moni kappale ei erityisemmin erottunut. Kivasti sekoittaa monia genrejä. Death or Glory tais olla Skate 2. Parhaat: London Calling, Death or Glory, Spanish Bombs
Grungy album that definitely feels precursor to modern British punk. Very rough around the edges in a charming way.
My friend lil' Laura really liked this album! I like it OK too.
Brit
It was really promising for me in places and I understand its impact, but it just didn’t really do much for me. Some songs I really enjoyed and others I didn’t care for. Unfortunately it’s a 3.
This has a lot of charm to it, and some great bass playing. I like the tone, and the playing, but the vocals leave something to be desired for me. The title track exemplifies the best of the album, while stuff like "Spanish Bombs" is more of what I'm not that fond of. There's some stuff like "Wrong 'Em Boyo" and "Revolution Rock" towards the back of the album which breaks the samey-ness up somewhat. Far from bad, but not there for me.
This didnt do too much for me. Ik its a classic and had a massive influence it just didn't tickle me. It felt a bit samey at times and there was a massive reuse in melody throughout the album. No songs really grabbed me. This gets a 3 just cuz ik its got and was very influential, just not for me, but I didnt hate listening to it.
its kinda crazy that the song "London Calling" convinced me I didnt like The Clash. I think this album is pretty alright, I like Spanish Bombs a lot and I feel like a lot of their music leans More into Ska than the average british punk fan would like. If I was big into punk I probably wouldn't like this album as much but I think its pretty fun
nah
I know it's a classsic, but wasn't a fan. Stand-outs - London Calling - Lost in the Supermarket
All 3 stars are for London Calling
Helt okej.
3/5
Not sure what I was expecting but this certainly passed my expectations. 3.5/5
fun slop album. good i guess. cant go wrong with it but not a single song that catches me
The punk persona clashes a bit with the pop songwriting.
A metà album mi ero già stufata
I started out strong, but it’s starting to die out on me the first six songs of our saves then we got to lost in the supermarket took a dive after that until songs 11 and 12 The sound of the band is starting to get annoying. It was unique. We are definitely trying different things. London Collin will always be a classic, but yeah, I’m starting to get fatigued. Bangr song to end the album. Train in vain is awesome.
Again, fine. Title track is a classic but the rest of the album dragged a little. Second listen improved a little but in places this felt somewhat less punk than I’d expect. Maybe it made more sense at the time/in the right era.
A purely historical exercise. Nice to put some songs in context, and the ska bits are fun, but won’t be chucking this on again.
I liked how long it was All the songs sounded kinda the same but good
Solid but not ground breaking for me personally
Meh
Punk reggae rock Train in vain, Rudy can’t fail
6/10
me gusto bastante
Very Clash-y. Not as irritating as I thought it would be. Some nice tracks to bop around to, but will likely not listen again.
better than expected tbh lost in the supermarket bangs
The title track is iconic, and the album version I listened to on Spotify was bookended nicely by the catchy pop tune Train in Vain (Stand by Me, which I would have imagined the title to be—it was very different in character and production from the other tracks). In between, there were catchy hooks and rebellious punk sensibilities, some better than others.
The title song is a classic. It's all decent
Standard album, but I liked Spanish Bombs and Lost in the Supermarket.
This is another one that I'm surprised, hearing the style, that it's from so long ago. This totally sounds to me like 2010s/2020s alternative rock. Which probably makes it foundational to some degree. It was fine, I was never unhappy, but kinda like background music in the car, not something I'd be excited if it came on.
A classic!
Decent. Classic
High Schooool calling
yep, i know this one pretty well already, not much to note on. the bops remain all timers as you'd expect. emblematic of a time when punk rock could be fun, and the bite didnt have to take you out of that fun.
Listened months, or maybe a year ago. It was alright, better than a lot of music I’ve heard.
Me gustó
There are a couple of really great songs on here. The rest all kinda sound the same to me, which is how I’ve always felt about The Clash.
3 - A bit bloated and I don't like it as much as I feel like I should.
No pude conectar con ninguna canción
Das war damals recht spannend. Aber nie so richtig mein Musikgeschmack
The bouncy ska beats are making me smile. I expected Punk to be more… angry and “f you” energy? Color me surprised at this borderline pop mishmash of genres. And maybe the lyrics are angry and revolutionary, but the fun silly energy disguises the message like a Trojan Horse.
Be tos pagrindines dainos nelabai paliko įspūdį bet vis tiek nieko blogo.
Still learning what sound "Punk" actually is, it seems to be more about the lyrics and tempo than anything but keeping an open ear as best I can. They are lauded as a very influential punk band and based off the lyrics I see that they were speaking from very personal places about politics, life and drugs. They also have a lot of positivity at the heart of it though, it is not about destruction because of the world imbalance which is interesting and kind of refreshing. Also liked that they change their sounds from Rock to Reggae when it serves the song (or when they felt like it). Favorite tracks were London Calling, Clampdown, Death or Glory and Train in Vain.
It was not as good as I expected love London calling but the rest was uninspiring
Oddly disappointed with this one. Probably hyped it up too much in my head. Plenty of fun, catchy songs here but not much that really connected with me or left a big impact. Favorites: "London Calling", "Lost in the Supermarket", "I'm Not Down" Least Favorite: "Revolution Rock" Mid 3.
Aight
Lowkey so geillll meine möse juckt bei manchen Songs wirklich (positiv gemeint!) Ich würde mir bzw. Werde mir auch andere Alben anhören!
155/1001 Punk music or music by punks? A lot of different musical styles on this one. I never fully embraced this album but it’s gets a play every so often. 6/10
A punk influenced rock album. It’s mostly edgy in lyrics and beats, but there are spells of calmness peppered throughout. It’s rebellious in nature but some of the songs are sneakily defiant. London Calling is the star of the album, but I have no complaints about the rest of the tunes. A good listen and I can see why it was added to this project.
Heard of the clash but never an album. Top 100 on Apple so high hoped. Cool opening. Super British vocals, well written tho. Brand new Cadillac is very 70s, pretty forgettable. Cool guitar on Jimmy jazz. Fine other wise. Hateful is fine. Nothing special. Cool guitar again I guess. Tudor can’t fell is fun but again nothing special. Have not been blown away so far. Interesting switch up to Spanish. I think this is pretty cool. Song is just ok again. The right profile is my fave so far. Really good production on this one. Great song writing. Lost in the supermarket is fun music wise but I’m realizing I hate the singers voice. Goofy lyrics too. Clampdown is pretty cool. Catchy chorus. Very 70s. Good production again on the guns of Brockton. A lot of sounds I’ve never heard before working well together. Much better vocals on this one. Wrong em boyo is fire. Great horns. Great keys. Just a really good song. Followed by death and glory which is another banger. This one is all abt the guitar. This is what I thought the whole album would be like. Got busy with work so missed a couple, but the fact that I didn’t have any notes means they’re pretty forgettable. Lovers rock is cool but over produced. Whistles and slide rock thing are bs and over done. I do like how all of the songs Flow into the next. I’m not down is pretty cool. Nothing special again. Revolution roc is very yacht rock. Sounds like a Jimmy buffet song. Kind of goofy. Cool horns that’s it. Train by vain is a banger, great way to close the album out. Very up and down album. Some really fun/good songs and some songs I never want to hear again. Certainly not in my top 100. Completely average album. 2.6 stars.
i didn't have very high expectations for this but i liked it! but it's pretty long so i did not finish. but the ones i listened to were like pretty good
After listening to this twice today I’m struggling to see what sets this album apart from the dozens of other cheesy British rock albums on this list. It’s not bad, I’m just really not seeing why it seems to be so adored
Its okay, the title track is probably the best
Fine
Way more Elvis Costello-esque than I expected. Some songs are incredibly odd, especially if you think of The Clash as a punk band, which I did before hearing this album
The title track is an absolute classic that I love but for some reason I never really looked deeper in to The Clash. That was until today and this album. There aren't any bad songs on the album but other than London Calling no other hits that I really loved either. A solid rock album that I would have on in the background but not the main focus of what I was doing. I'm happy I listened through it but not something I will seek out I think.
Klasika ama lowkey mid ova slushanje
Brought back memories of high school and binging MTV. I'd kind of forgotten the "rockabillies" sound many of these New Wave bands had. Fun!
I liked lost in the supermarket
this is all over the place 😭 but still feels kinda cohesive in a way
If you listen to this as a kid it makes you weird
Not what I expected at all. Too polished and overproduced. Expected more grit. A couple songs that probably translate better in a live setting.
Kannte nur allererste Lied, mal gucken wss ich vom Rest halte Bisher schnell, anstrengend, def kein easy listening aber geht rein
Had The Clash kept this to a single LP featuring only the better cuts from these sessions (e.g. "London Calling", "Train In Vain (Stand By Me)", "Lost In The Supermarket" and "Clampdown" among others), it would stand a good chance at being a five-star record. As it is though, this double album is bogged down with b-side quality stuff (pretty much all of sides 3 and 4), diluting its overall impact and dragging down its average. (Yes, the band was expanding its sound on this album but a lot of this turned into little more than genre experiments rather than true innovation.)
omg the clash hiii FAVS (top 3): hateful, the guns of brixton, lovers rock mençoes honrosas: brand new cadillac, spanish bombs, the right profile, clampdown eu curti tava meio com pe atras mas ate q é um album divertidinho nota final: 3.5/5
The Clash on jäänyt ehkä pitkäaikaisimmaksi bändiksi -70-luvun brottiosastolta, jota edelleenkin kuuntelen.
I mess with it, the use of brass instruments is something I didn't expect but yea its pretty good. 6.8/10
Some stand out songs, but unfortunately not much else. The mish-mash of musical styles makes this tedious to listen in a single sitting. Their later work is much better compared to this one.
Very familiar with this album. I'd argue it's iconic but overrated.
It could be better I guess or I wasn't in the right mood, but it was alright, I like the vibe. Maybe they have better albums :)
Not bad, kinda boring after a few songs.
Title track not the best. Was rating better until the racist cultural appropriation towards the end...
not a bad sound but too repetitive for me highlights: Spanish Bombs
I know a little Clash, but I was never a punk guy, so I didn't know it that well. I have to say, I really liked London Calling and was excited for more. Then it seemed to be just okay the rest of the way. Very 2.5-ish, but I'll bump it to 3 on the strength of London Calling.
It's 1979. The world feels bleek. War is still humming the after effects, there's no jobs, garbage in the streets, and the paint is peeling on my flat. Do I know? Absolutely not I wasn't born yet, but I can feel it in the lyrics and the music of punk. So I took 3 entire days trying to love this album, but sitting in 2026 where my kids friends are all shouting K Pop lyrics and I'm reminiscing on bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppin and, more modern lyrics, Bright Eyes, Amigo the Devil or Benjamin Tod, I am not screaming with the Clash for social change. I'm more avoiding the astounding amount of over exposure to world news issues and drinking my mediocre pod coffee while debating when my washer will be fixed. Ah 1979, you could have been so...
It's alright.
It's definately a good album, just not my kinda thing. Too catchy and happy and easy. But you can def hear how raw they were for their time.
Was expecting something special but was disappointed. Overhyped. 2.5/5
3.5? idk. maybe ill give it a relisten at some point bc this did nothing for me
It was okay
I think I’d rate this a 4 if it was 20 minutes shorter
Sort of seeing between really really enjoying this and being really bored by it. Might have to revisit and re-evaluate
it's fine, not disappointing, but all songs sound kind of similar. although, i liked "lover's rock", "the card cheat", "brand new cadillac", "jimmy jazz". 3
2 good songs
6/10
Not listened to this before and it wasn’t what I expected from their singles. Nice variation of styles but it did flow. Enjoyable.
Although I prefer their first two Punk albums, this is the sound of a band outgrowing their roots and experimenting with different styles. Not all are to my taste, but on the whole it is a quality piece of work. Mick Jones was always the better vocalist, just saying.
Good band
If you're my age and British, you're supposed to like, if not love, this but I don't. I like some of it but I don't think there's anything enough good material to justify a double album. As always, The Clash remain a singles band for me.
I did hear half of it it was pretty good
enjoyed the album overall but probs wouldnt listen to again. london calling was the main standout on the album. 3.5
Tad underwhelming… not many standouts to me i liked Train to vain and revolution rock (last two tracks were a vibe) not my vibe but i respect it 5/10
Mi canción favorita de este álbum fue Lost in the supermarket
fun
Not a huge fan of The Clash, but this was pretty undeniably good.
Fun album, fun band.
Overall, a nice, easy-listening album. The title song probably is the strongest.
Veel meer ska-ish dan ik had verwacht?? Was erg in de war. Wel prima
Undoubtedly carried by the title track but I also really enjoyed a couple of others-most notably Train in Vain (Stand by Me).
Fine but too long
A little bit underwhelmed, thought I would enjoy it more...
I knew the title song and Train in Vain for ages, and liked them a lot. However, I hadn't listened to the whole album from start to finish until now. It's like jolly punk-rock. I liked it, but it's not what I would associate with punk-rock (this has no bearing on the rating, who cares about genres tbh).
40 songs is insane to look at for one album. Fun start, light-hearted vibe with the lyrics and movements in the songs; some surprising horns and clean guitars for a "punk" album but this is intended to be a bridge between styles and it is clear. In a moment of honesty, this album bored me. It was cool, but 40 songs is insane and tells me they don't have a cohesive vision (bridge between styles). I did not listen to the whole thing, which is my loss. 3/5.
It's very clear where the Libertines got their sound from. It's good, but doesn't blow me away.
I liked it more than I thought I would’ve. The only song I had heard from the clash had been should I stay or should I go (great song) so it’s good to expand my knowledge of their songs
3/5. There are a lot of fillers
always good
