Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Is this the score to a musical? This is my second time trying to listen to this. It just puts me to sleep. There may be something here that I'm just not hearing, or even listening for, but my God this is not my jam. To me music is supposed to be joyous, a celebration. This is just....odd 1 outta 5
The Bad Seeds must be planted in the soil of the music because what the hell is this album?
Absolutely not. How many shitty Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums does this list need. More like albums that make you want to die… good lord, this author needs to get out of his bubble more than he does.
Yeah. I don't even know what this is. 1 Star
Yay another Nick Cave album! Said nobody, ever.
There is another one of these albums on this list, what???
Joy. MORE Nick Cave. AND IT'S AN HOUR LONG??? Unraptured joy! My god, Nick Cave sucks.
Absolute garbage
Not a single banger. Poor effort
This is just noise, and not the good kind
Ai, ik kan de Stem van Nick Cave echt NIET verdragen. Wat een zeik muziek. Sporadisch melodisch mooi, maar over het algemeen te emo voor mij
Boring
Who actually listens to this bullshit? And what kind of mental breakdown did the guy who made this list have to include these guys FIVE times?? Horrible and I hope Nick Cave sees this review. 1/10
I've heard some Nick Cave here and there, but never really cared for it. "Ahh, this must the album with all the good stuff." Nope. Even worse than the stuff I'd already heard. Much worse. What is this??
Bad. What the fuck is ambient pop? 🤡
More shite
I’ve heard like one Nick Cave song from a movie soundtrack, and it was… fine, but otherwise am unfamiliar with his music. But this album is so weird and so BAD. I seriously thought it was a joke, but the Wikipedia page has it listed as ridiculously well-reviewed: most places have it as 5 out of 5 stars, 96 of 100 on Metacritic, and says it was rated as the Best Album of the Decade, tied with Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butteryfly. All of which makes it feel even more like I’m being pranked. When I was younger, my aunt was really into Ray Boltz, the Christian music singer who also did narrative songs. You’d know him from the terrible “Christmas Shoes” song (all of his music is like that). This album makes Ray Boltz sound like Sinatra. The music itself is... fine, but the sing-talking… ugh. And his vocabulary oof. I get that this is supposed to be deep, and there’s a good amount of imagery, but the actual sentence construction sounds like it should be sung by William Shatner. The insane praise is what boggles my mind. Every weird music has its dedicated fans, not gonna yuck other people’s yums, etc. But this things gets five stars across the board - a 96 out of 100 on Metacritic. “Highest rated album of 2019 and tied for highest rated album of the 2010s with Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly”. I’m looking out the window for zeppelins man.
Got so bored after 3 songs, I'm sure his other stuff is great (the song in Harry Potter was good) but this just felt like someone moaning about shit. Trying to be Leonard Cohen without the imagery.
Just gets more painful to listen to as it goes along
Wow. Omg. What‘s that?! I mean.. I have a „I‘ll hear every album from the generator 100% before rating it“-rule. But.. I couldn‘t stand this one.
Not for me
Boring waffle, feels bad to say when knowing the albums context but not for me at all
0,1 stars. The worst thing i've listened in my lifetime
I hate Nick Cave.
What the hell was even that
Not the biggest NC&TBS fan, and this was bad by those standards. 1/5
No thank you
Dreary lyrics. Singer doesn’t add much to the music. Listened all the way to the end and felt tortured!
This isnt it. Poetry, sure. But not much worth noting beyond that.
This is my first album I’ve given a 1 to. I really don’t like this. It started like someone was storytelling or preaching in the sound bath tent at a music festival. And then became a very long funeral dirge. He talks rather than sings on most of the tracks which I don’t like. All the tracks bleed into each other and I feel like the rhymes are weird and awkward on Hollywood. Not a fan of this.
Well that was a chore
poetically good musically bad
It has a nice album cover, at least.
Didn't completely hate the second half of this album, the subject matter is heavy and the sparse synths work quite well for it. Would not listen again though. First half was pretty dire, as with other nick cave albums I feel a dodgy pub singer was given too much license to experiment and it's a big joke that I'm not in on. His success shows I'm in the wrong but I've heard enough to know he'll never be for me.
no likey, slow, and.. weird?
Not for me. 1/5
Not my vibe.
For the artist, there is probably something deeply and personally profound about this, but musically, it's distilled shit. Why bother with the pauses between "songs" when you're going to resume with the same droll nonsense. Much like the films of Wes Anderson, this is the type of bullshit that pretentious people like because they think they are supposed to. I like the album cover.
Each song is a bad poem disguising itself as music. Like the opposite of leonard cohen, terrible lyrics but pretty good vocals. The backing instruments do not belong in a song, they belong in a video game montage. Most notable song is Leviathan, the by far worst in the album. Hollywood seems to be the favourite of Nick Cave, as it’s the only one with any emotion behind it. Or maybe he was just grateful that the album was finally over, like me. (A little harsh, i didn’t actually mind listening to hollywood)
I truly feel for Nick Cave and his loss. However, I do not enjoy wallowing with him in his grief. This album is not for me.
All due respect to this project, We do NOT NEED to hear ANYONE'S 17th studio album. We DONT
Ghosteen is a snoozefest of epic proportions. It’s like Nick Cave set out to make a more depressing, slower, and somehow less engaging version of Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker — and totally missed the mark. The whole thing just drags on in a haze of whispery musings and ambient filler. Good thing I was mowing the lawn while listening or I’d have passed out. Easily one of the most lifeless albums I’ve sat through.
Nick Cave & His Bad Music
I’ve never heard anything from Nick Cave but I’ve only ever heard good things. And when it came to Nick Cave’s voice I was not disappointed, his voice is spectacular and full of nuance and subtlety. That being said I have nothing positive to say about this album outside of Nick’s vocal talent, well that’s not true I can tell that the band is wildly talented as well. The problem is I just hate the direction of the album. I don’t like the cover, I don’t like the production decisions and I hate the sound of the album. It actually made me go through his other work briefly cause I was stunned at how much I hated this album. Needless to say he has a lot of other sounds that I ended up liking more and some I liked less. It is also clear that the band has a clear intention to always try to do something different which I can deeply appreciate. But ultimately that just makes me more comfortable saying how much I hate this album. If you’re interested in Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds just try sampling alittle of each album and you should find something you like. For instance I liked the “Let Love In” album the best personally. So ultimately this album might be for you, but I’d still recommend skipping it.
Välillä sai nauttia oikein kauniista harnoniasta ja välillä tuntui kuin olisi kuunnellut surkeaa äänikirjaa seaworldin ambienssiraidan kanssa. Ei meikäläisen pala kakkua.
Couldn’t get into it after 5 tracks. Not my style, perhaps I’ll try to revisit it another time when I’m in a more depressed mood.
я конечно сочувствую Нику Кейву, потеря ребенка - это пиздец. Поэтому альбом и такой тоскливый. но кроме скорби здесь нет ничего интересного, по крайней мере для меня. опусы не отличаются вообще друг от друга
My GOD no
We are due for a good album. C'mon algo!
what the fuck nonsense is this? Bullshit lyrics pretending to have some deep meaning. Like they got their lyrics from Seb Pearse's New Age Bullshit Generator. The music is lame, too. Every bit as fake as the album art.
I did not care for this at all. Wound up skipping through most of the songs. It’s a 1 rating for me. 1/5.
It feels very odd and sort of depressing to review an album about the loss of a child on a scale of 1-5. Its unthinkable and any art that results from it surely has merit. If this helped Cave deal with that loss, then that's a great thing. That being said I will do my duty. 1. Not a Nick Cave fan - do not get it. 2. This album offers something I am not seeking. That may be immaturity, but I don't seek music about loss. I also don't seek spoken word poetry music. I think I primarily listen to music to feel better about life. I'll work on expanding what I get from music, but I won't start with Nick Cave.
I don’t get it …
I hate this guys music. Of all the albums ever made there is no justification for having everything this cunts put out on here. Jesus Christ
Sehr düster und deprimierend. Ich konnte nichts damit anfangen. 1/5
Only here because it's a Nick Cave album. Would rather have seen newer artists than someone who peeked in the late 80's/early 00's This album wont turn a classic
I wanted to like this so bad because the idea is super cool. But his voice is borderline unlistenable to me
I can’t even
boring af
Snore.
Nope. Not for me.
Fuck Nick Cave - Zionist scumbag
I don't know why there are so many Nick Cave albums in 1001 generator - they are all so bad. He is a terrible singer, no musicality - reminds me of Shatner.
Not good
This sounds like David Bowie singing Tom Waits.
i thought i liked nick cave and the bad seeds but this tells me i was mistaken? could i write poetry to this? n
Look...I just don't like Nick Cave, okay? Please stop trying to make me like his music. I made it through five songs of this before I gave up and listened to "Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by X-Files, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson: Only on Fox Television: Check Local Listings for Broadcast in Your Area" instead. This compilation includes the only Nick Cave song I kind of like, "Red Right Hand."
I don't think I could be convinced that this isn't one hour long song.
two nick caves a week apart was more than i could handle. was absolutely not feeling this one. 1.5
Come on, this one guy has 3 albums (so far) in the Top 1001? I call "BS"! The introductory song was interesting, but boring, really boring. The second song, "Bright Horses", was the most played track according to the stats. Dreary, boring, monotone, why, fantastical, those are the words that first come to mind. If you're into spoken poetry over music, this one's for you. Otherwise, this sounds like a fantasy movie soundtrack. I could see fairies and elves dancing in the forbidden woods. WTF, what am I missing? How did this make anyone's Top 1001 except the ultimate Nick Cave groupie? You know that sound at the end of Family Feud when they get the 3rd X?! That's what I want to do right now! One star because somehow 14M people have listened to "Bright Horses".
If someone put this on the aux I would crash
Aburridísimo
Não é meu tipo de música. Mas tem o seu valor. Acho que posso dar uma segunda chance depois.
chato chato chato chato
Not for me
Dull piano, slow, boring songs. Voice is cool. I found myself wanting this album to be over. If I had to choose either listening to this album or being held down in a fire ant bed, I’d pick the fire ant bed. 1001 album worthy: No - 4/7
not for me. kinda mopey and slow
This album did not work for me at all. Incredibly pretentious "musicality" that amounts to spoken word over synth pseudo-melodies that sound pretty, but don't actually do or say anything. Maybe this would've worked better as an instrumental album, because I can't stand the Leonard Cohen-esque sing-speak poetry style of lyrical delivery. Complete fail of an album
Had to turn it off. Couldn’t do it
I like the title and the picture on this album. Kinda perfect for the Halloween season. Sorry this album sucks. I don't do this often, but 1 star
Not for me
I would like a refund for the last hour of my life please
Awful, just awful. Horrible voice, horrible music, horrible sound.
Can't stand this artist, everything i hear is whining, not music
Not my type of music.
mehhhhh, feel like this is just spoken poetry over some background music. Might be great, but isn't what I am looking for in an album
I have never been a fan of like the low crooning. I'll say that I wasn't feeling well this day and had a headache, but I honestly just could not wait for this album to end.
Crap
Music was good lyrics🤷🏼
boring
this story music not for me
This sucked. Sounded like a miserable musical.
It's a bad sign when I'm already bored during the opening track. This is tiring, boring, pointless audio. I can't even call it music, because swells of chords and repeated lines barely feels like it qualifies. The lyrics are vapid. The singer's voice tries to sound wise and elderly but comes off as tired and dehydrated. You could not pay me to listen to this again.
I think I’ve heard enough Nick Cave
Absolutely excruciating. time has never moved slower
No thanks
Incredibly difficult to get through.
Dull - sorry Nick!
This sucks ass, couldn't pass track 4
Not good, could not listen
When does the music start? 1/5
story telling HAHAHAHA
Not only does this album not qualify as an album that anyone should have to hear before they die, it DOES qualify as an album that is almost impossible to listen to at all. Its bad in every way. The production is bad, the lyrics are bad, the vocals are bad, and the music is not good. 1/5
Everything Nick Cave has ever released is on this list. As always he sings monotone 90% of the time while the soundtrack to 80's PBS specials plays in the background.
This band is hot dog water.
There may be a day where this album resonates with me. Today is not that day!
Can someone please wake me up when this album is over? Ok thanks!
I feel a deep sadness that Cave's son died unexpectedly. I expect songs driven by such unimaginable grief to be lyrically hoping for redemption and sonically orchestral, with droning synthesizers, zero percussion, wavelike numbness permeating the evocative voicing. If you would like that, go for this album. If you don't, stay away.
It was too depressing for my taste
bro.
Did not enjoy
This might NEARLY take the record of worst album on this list for me, but I have had some slightly worse ones then this. There is nothing worse then spoken word albums, NOTHING
What? Apparently spoken word is popular in this list.
Maybe the most boring album so far. Might work as a movie sound track. As an album boring af
I'm sure that this is a deeply personal, heartfelt album for Nick Cave given the death of his son, but it is just too morose for me.
Wow I hated this. Here are a list of better and more relevant albums from 2019 that won’t be on here but should have been in this ones place: Vampire Weekend, ‘Father of the Bride’, Lana Del Rey, ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell!’, Ariana Grande, “Thank U, Next”, Brittany Howard, ‘Jaime’.
What utter dross, nick cave has a couple of good hits, but that was dire listening!
Not my cup of tea
I really hated this. Didn't get it at all. For something so emotional the music was devoid of feeling.
Oof. This was like listening to beat poetry from someone whose mother should have told them they couldn't sing, all lumped on top of lackluster instrumentals.
If you want Nick Cave, you'll get it. Sounds like Waits sings Cohen (or simmilar). No need to be heard before I die :-(
Worst album ever
Background music is good. With the lyrics included, the album appears to be best for those in mourning.
nope
Didn’t really enjoy it, not a huge fan of his vocals. There’s some interesting lyricism and harmonies, but overall I was not a fan.
schönes Cover (,sehr), Musik gepflegt, ruhig, langweilig
To weird for me. Didn’t like it
Horrible.
Absolute mindless drivel. Shame on anyone for adding it to this list. It was effectively BAD spoken word poetry, with weird music in the background.
Another Nick Cave album? No thanks.
Hated. Too ethereal// taking music too seriously.
“Nick Cave presents: all of his albums plus a few more you need to hear before you die”
Previously rated: Murder Ballads (3/5) ************************* There has been some bullshit on this list, but this album takes the cake. Hated every single minute of this dull, boring, silly pseudo-deep lyrics, garbage. I shouted many expletives at Mr. Cave while listening to this.
What is the deal with Nick Cave on this list? I don’t get it.
Slow and weird
Not just boring and repetitive, but also the two long form "songs towards the end were just bad. 1/5 Won't listen again
Interesting but to slow and melow for me, I can see the artistry
I’ve come to the realization that Nick Cave ain’t for me.
It’s interesting how Nick Cave had had so many albums on this must listen list but yet not one nickelback. I feel like the creator of this list is really missing what makes great music. The terribly sad style and lyrics didn’t make this any of the bit better. Listening to this was unappealing and boring. Just because something is sad doesn’t quite mean it’s good. This seriously made Nickelback seem like the Beatles. Give me a break. 1.8/10
Guess this album offers effective insomnia relief? (Also, 5th Nick Cave album to be served to me here, guess the curators here have a severe crush case)
Couldnt finish
Nope.
Slow, strange, and depressing. I guess I can see where it has its niche, it I don’t understand how it can be on any “greatest” lists. It’s reading, to slow ethereal chanting music. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:
Idk maybe it’s just me but I feel like if you’ve made 17 albums you should be a bit better at this whole music thing.
A musical fun sponge. Couldn't finish it
Not for me
Not a fan at all.
The sound is as boring and pompous as its cover art.
I just couldn't get into this style of music. I respect what he's trying to do, but it didn't click with me.
usch och fy
This was already shown
Ghosteen is incredibly boring. Yes the lyrics are powerful, but the music and delivery of the lyrics are just very stale and boring. It does not really feel like this builds anywhere musically.
More like sleepy Nick and the Snooze Alarms
I've really enjoyed Nick Cave albums I have heard from much earlier in his career, but this album was so soft and slow and boring that the entire thing passed and I enjoyed literally none of it. Nothing I have been used to hearing from this act was present on this album.
zZz...
Very atmospheric but didn't make an impression.
It is ambient music and noise. There isn't really much singing as he just speaks the lyrics. Lyrically, it tries way to hard to be obscure. It is way took long as there was no need for a double album or for it to be 70 minutes long. I skipped songs as I just had enough. No need to revisit or listen to again.
Jeez
Oh fuck off. So much fucking Nick Cave, none of it that I actually ever want to hear. 1/5.
so the last nick cave album we had was some dirty grungy tunes with swagger and a snarl. thats the good nick cave. this isn't. the fact this album is about something so tragic makes it even harder to listen to. i can't actually think of a scenario where i would actively choose to dive in to the misery that is this album. anyone who does choose to listen to this album is a fucking pervert.
Nick Cave once came at me with a knife at my daughter's birthday party. He ruined the whole day. I'll never listen to his music.
Not sure what he was going for here, unless it was for something awful. If that was the intent, congrats. Challenging to even get through the whole thing.
Slow, quiet, background music. Every track sounded the same. "Singing" isn't very enjoyable. Basically poetry spoken over music.
Dogshit
Trying to keep an open mind on this one.. haven’t heard of this album even though it’s recent. Happy at least new albums are included. The spinning song- this song was just bizarre to me. Lyrics meh but outro was okay. Bright horses- simple but effective instrumental, just Sean really resonate as I don’t really have an experience with grief that way Waiting for you- actually sounds like a song, pretty good👍 Night raid- interesting instrumental but v strange metaphor Sun forest- actually just lofi ambient music to start the song lol. Meh other than that Galleon ship- interesting enough instrumental to support lyrics 👍 Ghosteen speaks-snorefest tbh Leviathan- this one is hard to listen to Ghosteen- 12 mins 🙃bridge is fantastic, but there is a whole lot of slog Fireflies- nick cave doesnt know what a photon is. Think lyrics are pretty good, but you’re just speaking them my dude Hollywood- 14 mins. V long, kisa story baffling This album is the first one where I had to do something else also for the sake of my sanity. Just not for me, I can’t relate to the grief. I don’t think for me the lyrics and the music caught me enough to truly connect me. Sure this is a good album, but I don’t have a discerning ear. 1/5
Dude sucks bad. Not sure how him or Waits have a career.
Like wtf, no way this is one of the 1001 albums you MUST listen to.... from what I can see, this band's best albums were in the 90s, this is a 2019 album... and you are trying to tell me it's a classic, a quintessential album. What the fuck is this list.
It's not the kind of music I like.
Unlistenable drivel.
What even is this? The lyrics are fantastic, but this is just way too nebulous to enjoy.
Not for me
Nick je t'en supplie, fais des trucs plus rock il est super chiant ton album
The album promised a lot at the beginning, but ended up being a very linear and boring album
Sorry, Mr. Cave. This one is not for me. The whole album is too slow. Very little variety. A bit too church-like for me as well.
A bit slow, maybe too arty for me. Didn't "enjoy" it
Zzzzzzx
