Reviews (page 12 of 13)

I understand it's historically important, interesting, cool etc. but I just found most of it a bit dull.

I didn’t connect with this much to be honest but there were some interesting moments

I understand the importance of reggae, but it's not for me. It's glorified background music.

fine. good vibes, nice vocals, good vibes but gets quite repetitive for an album,

Fire resistant

Dude every song sounds the same. I’m sure this is good? I just don’t get it

Boring, but it's influential so people won't care

slow listening; good, but not my thing

Never thought I'd be able to sit through a whole Bob Marley album. And turns out I wasn't.

Not for me. Repetitive. Melodies bored me.

Sleepy. Couple fire sweet songs. TWO!

liked it less than the first one

Abertura do álbum é linda.

Not for me

This was nice to listen too, great vibe and interesting lyrics. I don’t know or listen to much Bob Marley and I was surprised I recognised a couple of these songs. I liked it but didn’t love it.

2nd Bob Marley album from the generator. I liked the other one more, this album is just too mellow. It's not bad, just borders on "background music" 2/5

ok look i TRIED and i still don't like reggae, PLEASE NO MORE REGGAE

It's not Exodus...

0/11 bekannt 4/10 Beste Songs: 400 years, no more trouble, high tide or low tide

I still dont like Reggae, what can I do.

His most forgettable album that I’ve heard on this list so far

When I see Bob Marley pop up, I know I get a bye day. I hate reggae, and Bob Marley has never been able to change my mind on that. 2/5

First Listen; 2.5; I thought I was going to listen and find something interesting or enjoyable, but I really didn't connect with it. It was enjoyable enough, but I also found it boring, even though I could tell there's clearly good musicianship. It's possible that part of the reason this album didn't land for me is that I got it in the dead of winter on a 25 degree day. This is the first album (after about 50) where I will probably come back another time because I feel like it could be me missing something. Favorite Track: Concrete Jungle

★★½

To be completely honest, reggae does absolutely nothing for me. With just a couple of exceptions, I found that tracks on this album largely uninteresting sonically, and quite repetitive. That's generally been my experiene with most reggage music I've heard in my life. I'm hesitant to give this album a bad review just because I don't care for the genre, but I also don't want to give it extra points based entirely on how I imagine other people might enjoy it. If you do that, then what's the point of this whole endeavour? So, with the caveat that I acknowledge I'm being a bit of a philistine, I'm giving this a 2. Favourite tracks: Concrete Jungle, Kinky Reggae

A very good reggae album. I can not stand reggae music.

Over 1000 albums in and I somehow still have to listen to more reggae.

I'm not a big bob Marley fan and that style of music but it wasn't horrible.

Liked some of the songs. Struggled to listen to the full album.

I don’t think I like reggae

Love the message but the music is not for me. I respect why people like Bob Marley but I think I need to be high to really like it.

This is well executed and the band sounds tight, but it just isn't really a genre I find does anything for me.

Good, but i dont really like reagge. It is consistent and well done, but it is limitaded by its own genre.

Pleasant, sounds it's age.

Somehow escaped my youth this album rules

I was on the fence here. Really not much staying power with most of these songs. Maybe it'd be pleasant for the background, but I can think of a number of other reggae albums i find more interesting. Just ok. 2.4/5 -> 2/5

Reggae just isn’t for me. It sounds formulaic and ultimately disinterest me

Added a song but not for me for the most part.

Stir it up….and nothing else

can i get a saltfish patty please

It was okay. Better than expected, but in a kind of good background noise that isnt catchy.

06/11/2025 Yet again another Bob Marley album that sounds like the last and sounds like the next. Spotify listeners: The Wailers 647.4k

Har ikke blitt noe reggae-menneske siden sist

Olisi vaatinut enemmän yläpilveä tämän kuuntelu.

meh - not a huge Bob Marley fan

Just not my vibe at all.

Album was good, but nothing I'll be taking away. Probably not the style of music I listen to at this point

When I think of reggae I think of Bob Marley. Overall the sound is great but comes across as repetitive. But then again I’m not the biggest fan of reggae. Agree it has an impact on music and culture, just not something I will listen to regularly.

I had a best of album back in the day and struggled to get through all of it at once. Some i thought going into this a best of is probably chosen as stylistically similar. No. I get it, reggae is a tyle and its all gonna be similar in thag sense but thats not what i find. Its almost as if the bpm is the same or close to every track on this. Its not but there is a sameness, a lack of texture, light and shade to this. Some great tracks like Stir it Up and Concrete Jungle but its 1001 albums not singles.

Not into Reggae. But aside from this, I think the songs are rather boring, all samey and without songwriting „finesse“. Maybe you need to be stoned to like it. Idk.

It's ok.

Background music, reggae doesn’t excite me.

Not a bad album, love the social commentary in the lyrics, but not for me.

I didn't dislike the album. There are some good tunes. I liked Stop That Train the best. A lot of the tracks just felt bland and slow. I like that I listened, but probably won't return any time soon.

Fun ragge stuff , I’m mostly new to this genre so my enjoyment is limited but glad to have heard

I dont think I can truly appreciate the essence of this album without being high.

Haven’t heard Bob Marley since high school. Not for me at all, but I get it. Felt like a chore to listen.

Standout Songs: Stir It Up Midnight Ravers Still not big on reggae, most of the songs blend together and sound the same. Very boring. Bob Marley does have some decent songs but I never really desire sitting down and listening to a whole album.

I'll admit that my exposure to Bob Marley is pretty much limited to his Greatest Hits album. I can see why this hits hard with some people. It's kinda the definition of crunchy. It's good, just not my flavor.

Was never a Marley fan and still not. I don't get it.

Reggae is not really my style so I don't really vibe with the album. It's pretty chill though

Alright

Not into Reggae, but this was ok.

Just not enough variation for me

Good album, but not every Marley album should be in this list...kill your darlings please!

🤷‍♂️

I know I should like Bob Marley and reggae, but I just don’t. It’s not terrible, but it’s not something that I would want to listen to again.

Not a huge fan of reggae or ska. But then, I was vibing. But then, it kept going. This would be good mindless music if I was stoned on the beach. In fact, it would be really good for that. But I don't like mindless music, and I don't get stoned. So. Fave songs: Every single one sounds the same. Sorry. "Concrete Jungle" is cool though.

2-3 good but reggae isn’t my thing

His worst album I think the other ones in his portfolio are better.

Didnt listen really, ganz ok i guess

Boring ....no idea how anyone can make it to the end

Respect his contributions to music and his political importance, but this album was pretty repetitive and seemed to all blend together after a while

jah me livre dessas musicas

Reggae, pretty good but not my genre. Maybe a three but again, I wouldn't put it on for myself.

Erk. Reggae.

Reggae.. First? 2,5 /5 Again? 1/5

I’m going to be bold and say that I do not like reggae music. It’s good for one song then I’m like ok when are we going expand

All his songs kinda sound the same. Two albums on this list!?

I find his music to be so boring

Reggae just isn't my thing. I did enjoy the opening track, Concrete Jungle, quite a bit though. 1.5/5

Not my cup of tea

Nah. Each song was the same. They found a groove, repeated the same few words then faded out. I'm sure there is some Bob Marley that could win me over a little, but this is far from it.

Not a reggae guy

Föredrar Markoolios reggae

inte för mig.

I thought that it was badish every song was a little long and very focused on very repetitive instruments. It was mixed poorly enough that I couldn't hear the singer really at all.

calmao chill guitar

Getting a reggae album was a nice change and I enjoyed the laid back vibes, but the instrumentation is a bit too sparse and simple for me to want to listen to this again.

It was ok, giving a kind of tribal vibe which I wasn't a huge fan of

Noooooooo. Reggae?? Ah man. Aside from this one time hiding from the frigid late winter rain at the worst job I’ve ever had, I have never enjoyed one second of this genre. That’s not to say it doesn’t have validity, or whatever, but that’s not really what these ramblings are about, is it? Robert Marley. The man more synonymous with being slapped on every product from second-rate audio equipment to third-rate coffee than music. A shirt emblazoned with his visage remains a symbol of excellence in the wannabe high school stoner community. Can he live up to that lofty billing? My guess is yes. Take that for what you will. Oh wow that start tricked me for a second. I thought this was going to be different than I expected. I will deliver the shock of shocks when I say that this ISN’T abhorrent. Take that one to the bank, Bobby. Interesting layering and the lyrics weren’t bad. Better start than expected. Oh look! It’s the same riff! This is what I struggle to comprehend about reggae. But man, if this isn’t a catchy song, I’ll be damned. This is good! Passionate vocals and sameness aside, there is some quality musicianship. Well. Can’t win em all. I’m surprised there have been any wins at all. And I don’t even hate this. Stop that train, and while you’re at it. Stop this album. I’ve heard enough. This is my stop. No, I can’t do poor Bob like that, but this is a true stinker. Bruce Springsteen books a trip to Sandals Jamaica. That’s as bad as it sounds. A quarter to HATE?? I think it was an accent, but I like the idea of that for a moment of pseudo-depth. Gives off a high school spoken word play. Baby, we’ve got a date. I’ve assembled the worst elements of 50’s pop, reggae, AND country. Don’t be late! This is fading fast. A nice little song on some ways. Heavy on the repetition, and not breaking any of my preconceptions here, but I’m not in agony, which is a lovely surprise, as I thought I’d be writhing in torment by this point in the album. Gross. The flames are getting hotter as they lick at my heels. Are these euphemisms? He’s just boinking dudes in the middle of Piccadilly Circus? This song reminds me why the sight of some weekend stoner in a Bob Marley t-shirt has always given me hives. The worst kind of music, embraced by only the lamest of white people. Alright. Wrap it up here. I’m glancing at my non-existent watch and fidgeting in my seat. I’ve heard enough reggae riffs to lad a lifetime. I don’t need no trouble, Bob. I just want to go home. My mind is also confused with confusion. What have I done by starting this wretched list? I wanted to check if Spotify added extra songs to this album, so I went to the trusty music nerd haven known as Rate Your Music. Turns out, the real album cover has ol Bob smoking a comically oversized joint, and I feel like if I knew that from the start, this bad boy would been bumped half a star. There is something so silly about the overall weed culture surrounding reggae. Especially when the banner is being carried by suburban white kids in Canada. Here’s the thing. This had a charm at the start, and I began to develop a respect for Bob Marley. I never thought I’d see the day. As this album wore on, I was reminded that I really think reggae is in strong contention for the very worst mainstream music genre. Lookout modern pop country. Now that would be a clash of the titans. Anyway. Yeah this album surprised me. I would never listen to it again, but I was pleasantly surprised. Roll up this album, burn it, and pass it over there. I’ll just inhale some of the fumes. 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Concrete Jungle, Slave Driver

2.5 - I can see how this was super influential and how reggae was emerging here, but there’s not a lot of entertaining music between the message they have. I think Marley perfects the combination of these with some of his later stuff

Too much skank for me to handle. Throwing an extra star on because I love “Stir It Up”. I was in the Dominican a decade ago and it seemed like every building you walked by, that song was playing. Really got me in the island mood.

Reggae is just not for me.

Reggae is kinda boring. This album totally solidified my opinion. A couple of stand out songs. Kinky Reggae made me laugh when he sang, “she had brow sugar all over her booga-wooga” but other than that it was a forgettable album. Would only spin this album on with the right group of snowboarders. They would keep asking to replay Stir it Up. 2/5

The song about how kinky he is was unique and interesting to hear

Fine to have on in the background, didn't really enjoy it beyond that.

I can see the good in it but it’s just not my style

Reggae has always been too slow and repetitive for my taste. Also, the emotions it conveys feel almost otherworldly, as if they come from a place where men preach peace and tolerance while shooting each other and father 28 children with 28 different women. It’s just not something I relate to. Maybe I would if I lived under palm trees, spent my days barbecuing, and having sex while smoking pot. That said, Bob Marley is undeniably a legend who always struck me as someone who could transcend the genre, giving it a pop sensibility while remaining true to Jah, football and freedom. Listening to this album for the first time… well, ...except for few tracks, it doesn’t make it the expected way. Not unpleasant, but still mostly good as a song track for a backyard BBQ. The lyrics have a certain philosophical quality if you are high— ex : “Their minds are confused with confusion.” Still, there are some solid grooves here and there.

Poslušala sam prvi disc i dobila totalno zasićenje.

Not a big Reggae fan but this was ok, a bit samey. Favourite tracks: Stop That Train & Stir It Up Probably not one to revisit. 2/5

Ich hab es mir sogar angehört. 😅 Aber leider weiterhin kein Reggae Fan.

Nothing against Bob Marley and the Wailers, but I've heard more interesting reggae. It kinda seems like you had to be there to appreciate Marley's larger-than-life presence and political efforts, because 52 years later, all I hear is a pretty standard reggae album. Not bad by any stretch, just not as outstanding as most seem to believe it is. Additionally. the chill energy can be a little much at times, and leaves me craving some diversity. in songwriting. I was going to compare this album to Peter Tosh's work, only to find that Peter Tosh was involved!

I wasn’t really blown away with this album. I guess you could say when I saw it was a Bob Marley album I was excited cause I don’t listen to him and I’m not familiar with very many songs. And I found a couple songs on this album I liked to its credit. But the problem I have with this album is sonically it’s very one note. There’s not a lot of variation of sounds on this album, and that always hurts an album for me personally. Along with the other type of songs I struggle with, slow songs. There’s a lot of slow songs on this album. So I feel like despite everything this album had going against it, I still found a few songs that I liked. I’m not sure if I would recommend this album however.

Not a fan of reggae. High Tide or Low Tide kinda rescues it from being a 1 though

Stir it up and some other jams.

This is my first reggae album... and I'm unimpressed. It was kind of boring and way to repetitive. It's vocal-based music, which is not really for me. I like music to be exciting, but this is laid-back and not really atmospheric at the same time. It's fine but not that fun. Also, it is probably the remaster's fault, but some track have way too much bass and it overpowers the rest of the sound (more of a minor complaint). 5/10

Repetitive, not engaging. 5/10

Absolutely fine reggae. Sounds about like what I expected but nothing grabbed me.

Never super loved old school reggae, I appreciate the movement and all that, but the music gets so samey after a full album of it. Yeah this is kinda hard to listen to, it might as well all be the same song.

Désolé mais le reggae, la flemme

When I hear Bob Marley music, I picture women in their mid 60s, arm in arm, swaying...

3rd reggae album in this list, seems disproportionate since there’s been no Irish or Canadian albums! Only Stir It Up is memorable here, 2.5/5

Not a massive Marley fan, but prefer this to later albums.

Not a big fan of reggae or Bob

Beetje eentonig

Is this boring? I think this might be boring. Pleasant. Worthy. But a bit boring.

not my thing, everysong sounds very similar

Bar stir it up, a surprisingly dull offering

I enjoyed it while I listened, but few songs really stuck out as memorable. I’ll listen more and again. Helps explain why the live version of no woman no cry is the better one.

Still not a fan of Bob Marley and did skip most of the album. Not a great start 😂

Another instance where listening to an album rather than the greatest hits is worth it.

I went into Catch a Fire without high hopes, having never quite connected with Bob Marley’s music. Even while watching the One Love biopic, the music felt like an interlude in the compelling story of his life rather than something that truly engaged me. After giving the album a chance, my opinion remains largely unchanged. While there’s some impressive lead guitar work on the opening track, Concrete Jungle, the rest of the album doesn’t leave much of an impression. Marley’s style and sound are clearly unique, but here, it just doesn’t resonate for me. Standout song: Concrete Jungle Score: 2/5

It just sounds like reggae, man. Clearly my ears aren't sonically refined enough to appreciate much more about it other than being pretty good reggae.

I just don't really like reggea

This is for children

I'm all for structural and thematic continuity in an album but JESUS CHRIST can a dude get SOME variation pls? Or perhaps I was just not in the mood for reggae today.

erste song no cool, dchicken scratch gitarre und de mega dumpf bass isch scho no geil zeme, bi slave driver au. und sie singed schö mehrstimmig. isch jetz songwriting technisch weniger hammer. 400 years isch afoch 400 years und 400 years. stop that train isch au seehr simpel. orgle no schön. aber schisst mi jetz scho ah nomel 20 minute reggae lose. stir it up isch glaub de einzig song uf dem album woni kenn. er isch okay. er isch z lang. wiso heisst de sing kinky reggae. nai. wiso seisch du booger wooger bob. no more trouble het mi jetz au nöd catcht. nöd esoo spannend. midnight ravers het au recht agnehmi harmonies und cooli perkussion aber ich cha afoch mit de grundstimmig nüüt afange. schisst mi ah da album bi wüürkli kekn reggae guy da isch e guets reggae album aber nööö

I don't mind Bob Marley playing when it's faintly playing in the background of a Gastropub's speakers, but aside from that, I'd neve seek it out to listen to on my own.

I don't understand Bob Marley. I feel like I must be missing something as I have found every one of his albums to be boring

It surprises me how much I really don't care for this album. The two best songs on the album were both written by Peter Tosh. Marley has a couple good ones, but a lot of this album was forgettable and I didn't connect to it at all

This was fine, I guess. All of the songs on this album and the other Bob Marley album we listened to sound the same to me.

was dreading more bob marley but there were aspects of this that sounded similar to music i like. 1.5

This was alright, I had not heard most of these songs. Unfortunately I'm going to go with a rating of 1 I think, and I'm unlikely to revisit it as opposed to "Live!" London, 1974. That live album is probably a 4 for me - edited, bumping this up to a 2

Perus Wailerssia...

Ei ole oma juttu tämä.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I hate reggae music. I find the sound of it maddening. With that said I went into this with an open mind and actively trying to find the good points. I will say that the musicians were tight and I like that lyrically it had something to say. It was still a struggle to sit through this though. It's certainly not something I would ever listen to again.

I really can't stand reggae, sorry Bob. I'll rate 2 because that's just a matter of personal taste, and there are MUCH WORSE stuff on this list.

Nothing bad, nothing worth going back for

Grand, like, but not something I can get hugely excited about.

I was expecting more from this album. I've heard so much about Bob Marley, and I thought that this would be some masterpiece in reggae. It was fine. Outside of a couple songs, this album was forgettable. Best Songs: Stir It Up, High or Low Tide Worst Songs: Stop That Train, Kinky Reggae

I just don't get reggae.

I don't appreciate reggae the way that reggae lovers do. The only time I really felt some Joy from listening to reggae was in the '80s when it was popular on local radio stations but to actually sit through a whole album of reggae is difficult for me to do. I'm trying to have some respect for the spiritual aspect of it but I just don't feel in sync with that so out of respect I give this only two stars.

Not for me

Reggae.

Bob Marley is the absolute epitome of “if you’ve heard one of his/her songs you’ve heard them all”. This album was quite pleasant and chill and sounds nice and everything, but honestly each song is so simplistic and repetitive that they get old before they’re done. One of the least interesting songwriters I’ve listened to in a long time. His songs are so compositionally limited and most use the same basic tropes and progressions. I start to laugh whenever I hear that one cliche reggae drum fill that starts so many of his songs in the exact same way. The appeal of Bob Marley is the unique atmosphere of his music, but really he is a one-trick pony. If I ever get into marijuana I’ll think about giving this one another listen, but until then, I’m good

Never been a big Bob Marley guy, but maybe it was because I wasn’t high enough. It is laid back, but it’s giving me beach vibes. But I don’t love the beach. Nothing wrong here. It’s just me.

No amount of Bob Marley on this list is ever gonna make me like reggea

I didn't catch fire with this Reggae Rock.

just don't like reggae :/

A good reggae album, but they have better ones Top tracks: Stir It Up

Reggae.

not my bag

Reggae is not my ting

This was alright nothing I would seek out on my own. Will say it was better than the rap crap I have heard on here.

Decent album, pretty chill. Still not the biggest reggae fan though. 2.5/5

Glad to be exposed to all these genres from this website. I knew Stir it Up. I’m not able to appreciate reggae all that much - I don’t think I’m the target audience.

Good instrumentation and tunes, okay lyrics. Not a huge Bob Marley fan it turns out.

Not really a fan of reggae - everything sounds so similar to me. Was somewhat intrigued by the uniqueness of the opening track, but quickly devolved into the same old tropes. I'm sure this album holds significance for its fans, but it really just isn't for me :(

Not so many smash hits on this one. Stir It Up was the only song I recognized. I thought it was quite a weak record.

It was fine…listened while reading. The tempos of all the songs were very similar, making the album feel a bit monotonous. Favorites: stop that train, stir it up Probably wouldn't turn to listen to this one again.

Unfortunately, not for me. Too muffled and slow.

Not his best

Reggae.

Known Before: Standouts: 4. Stop That Train 4.5

Not really a fan

Every song sounds the same

Admittedly, this is my first Bob Marley album. I've only ever gotten into the hits. It was fine, but the plethora of fade outs really brings an album down for me. It shows that someone can't finish a song when there are too many of them.

I get that this is supposed to be influential, the greater introduction of Bob Marley to the masses and all that, but, honestly, nothing jumped out at me. Telling that with nearly every posthumous compilation, this album accounts for nearly nothing in the tracklistings.

I’ve listened to this album before, and I just don’t get Bob Marley.

Just ain’t a reggae person, even though I can appreciate it for what it is.

No doubt Bob had a great voice, and the songs are well performed but I feel very underwhelmed.

Quite pleasant to listen to. Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me, but I was never mad that it was on. If there was a half star I'd probably go for 2.5 stars, but I'm stuck choosing between the two options. And this is what I picked, which feels a bit too severe, but them's the breaks.

This album was okay, I understand the rights and racism lyrics but I don't really like it being pushed in my face when listening to music, as music to me is just an escape

Reggae... And that's a genre I don't like

Get up, stand up for your rights.

Some great songs. Not the most accessible bob marley album in my opinion. Quite repetitive

#3. I don't really understand reggae as a whole. At best I find it tedious, and at worst I find it annoying. While there may be an reggae album out there to change my mind, this one wasn't the one. At least twice while listening to this album I found myself zoning out and then thinking "damn, this isn't over yet?" when I realized it. There isn't really a single song on this album that caught my interest. 2/5: meh

I. Hate. Reggae.

Not actually as good as I remembered

Reggae isn't really my go to Genre to listen to on a rainy day, so that slightly influenced the listening experience. Leaving that aside, it's a good album bringing some great vibes. It has inspired me to give a few more listens to the album I don't really have a song that stood out for me, thus so far in the first listen I don't have a favourite yet.

Twee keer Bob achter elkaar. Leuk om te vergelijken. Bob is Bob natuurlijk.

2 Yeah, I’ve established that I’m not much of a Bob Marley fan, and once again this didn’t do much to change my mind. I appreciated that these songs at least seemed to have a bit more political messaging to them, but then again, with lyrics like “Their mind is confused with confusion”, I feel like I can only commend the songwriting so much. Why is this guy considered an all-time great lyricist? I was hoping my guy Peter Tosh would hit me with something decent on his penned songs here, but I really couldn’t tell you any aspect of 400 Years or Stop That Train that makes them stand apart. Hell, I couldn’t even tell you what the biggest hit here, Stir It Up, has that the other songs don’t. I thought maybe it had a profound message I was missing, but no, it’s just about sex. Maybe people are just horny - see my earlier note about sex noises in music. On a positive note, this has one of the coolest physical album concepts I’ve ever seen - and no, not the version featuring Marley smoking a spliff - but the OG release was in the shape of a Zippo lighter and opened up like one to reveal the record. That’s cool as hell - I’ll give Marley credit for that one.

First, I’ll credit the album cover (which is very different to the one this website displays). That said, while I'm appreciative of Marley's brand of reggae music, I found the album repetitive and rather boring.

It's ok, but all the songs sound the same after a while.

Like it is fine for what it is. I know it was the basis of a lot of music I like. I would not mind it if it was on in a public location and would probably vibe to it. But I’m not going to sit down and listen to this again.

I don't think this is on par with his better material, eg Exodus. The writing and especially the lyrics are not very inspired and they do get very repetitive. The big "hit" on this album is Stir it up but I think this it is mediocre compared to his other more successful singles. So overall this did not excite.

day 15. listened to the original ones first, then went back and listened to High Tide or Low Tide which sounded way better to me - and would have been a favorite - now I wish I listened to all the Jamaican/re-released versions first. anyways. this album was just okay to me … I do have the impression that most reggae sounds the same and this didn’t really change my opinion. Stir It Up does stand out and makes sense why it was the only song I knew previously. Other faves were No More Trouble and Concrete Jungle. I just found the rest to be too similar not only in sound but often times in messaging too … meh. sorry, it’s a 2.5/5 rounded to 2 for me, I didn’t hate it but it doesn’t stand out to me.

Eh... only one standout song.

I feel bad giving this album this score, as there were plenty of parts of somgs I liked, but it always felt like it didn't go far enough into what I would enjoy, and would slip away from me being interested in the song by the end of each song, and that either happened with every song, or the song didn't catch me in the first place. I can completely see why this is something worth listening to, and I'm glad I did, but this is either not for me, or at the very least I am not in the mood at the moment, and probably won't be most moments of my life.

Concrete Jungle, Stir It Up, Kinky Reggae and Midnight Ravers. I think they just added different vocals to the same music. Besides the chorus of the songs I couldn’t tell you which song is which. 5/10

I’m sure someone somewhere likes this album but I’m not sure that person is me

Not for me

Don't understand why Bob Marley so popular

Bob Marley is the first person most people think of when you think Reggae. He does the genre well, I like the instrumentation more than the vocals in this.

Catch A Fire's songs' lyrics deal with political injustice towards blacks and poverty, as is the case in much of Bob Marley's work. Catch a Fire is about the current state of urban poverty" and "Slave Driver" connects the present to past injustices, which are still ongoing themes today for people of colour. Best: Concrete Jungle Worst: Midnight Ravers

I understand why this is on the list, but it just doesn't really do much for me. Relaxing vibes, but just sort of fades into the background.

I don't like Bob Marley. Stir it Up is a fine song. I don't know.

This is going to sound weird, but I like Bob Marley songs not Bob Marley albums.

The one Marley album I own, this is the one I was told that I needed, and I just don’t get it. Reggae is not my thing at all. D-

Aika perus mutta hyvä reggae. Että siitä pisteet. Kinky reggae on hyvä.

Eh fine. Rasta isn't my jam

Quite poor

Har ikkje blitt nåke reggae-meneskje siden sist

I like a lot of the sounds of reggae but m9st of this album was too stripped down and low tempo for my vibes. I dug 3 tracks particularly but the rest I couldn't connect with.

Sorry Bob wasn’t into this one

Can’t get into it. Great band again. Feel like I heard the same song over and over again. Meh….

Bob Marley. Reggae

Maybe I should just copy & paste my other reviews of Bob Marley & The Wailers albums... I just don't know how so many of these albums make it on the list. I could understand one (say Exodus), but so many?!? They all follow the same intricate formula: get some basic Reggae, add some more Reggae, stir, and spice it up with even more Reggae for good measure. (Evidence: Stir It Up on this very album). Suffice to say that this is not my idea of an enjoyable album. But to each their own. 1.5/5

Ugh, reggae. It must be one of the most creatively dead genres out there. Every song sounds exactly the same. Not sure why this needed to be a "deluxe version" with two extra songs that also sound the same. 2/5.

Not as great as Exodus lacking the hits and full of a bit too much filler for my taste.

Een reggae grootheid, no doubt.

Not for me

Relentless reggae just isn't my thing, I like the odd one but an entire album, even BM is just a bit much. Also a bit traumatised from travelling in SE Asia and hearing BM greatest hits on repeat in every god damn bar

After 1 track I was thinking this could be a 5 star album, by track 4 I was 2 stars. This is my problem with reggae. It gets tiring fast after the initial rush. How does anyone love this genre I’ll never know

Pretty good.

Baby We've got a Date Марли.

Reggae

Not a bad sound, just a boring repetitive one.

A good album talking about the instrumentals, this album gives me the tropical vibes I hear now in the bachata genre, it is an iconic album in history, in my opinion this turns boring by the half of the album but gets better with the last three songs. Never heard a full reggae album, this was a good one to start with.

It wasn't terrible, but I didn't enjoy it that much. Most of the songs sound the same. That said, the sound isn't bad, it just gets redundant and a bit boring when you listen to all of them one after the other. Favorite track: 400 Years

Cool and relaxing, but not likely to be in my heavy rotation. Something a bit different when the mood takes me.

Es reggae. Estuvo bien. 2/5

Bob Marley classic. Good but not into it

Half the songs are copy paste instrumentallly so is fairly boring. Marley is great vocally but it's nothing too exciting.

Don’t mind a bit of Exodus but wasn’t fussed on this

Meh. 5/10

Not for me.

concrete jungle, baby we've got a date, stir it up are, high tide or low tide are faves but tbh reggae all starts to sorta sound the same to me after a while

Songs: Kinky Raggae, 400 years, No More Trouble

Not a fan of reggae. This album was just ok. Head bobbed along occasionally

Just not a fan of reggae

Better than I thought but also nothing I’d listen to by choice.

It's fine. It's not my thing, but I recognize some of the beats are catchy, and I'm sure there's more there than I'm giving it credit for. It's just not a thing I would pop on.

I hate reggae.

Below 1

i do not get reggae at all. every track of this sound indiscernibly identical to me. the raggae beat, played straight or shuffled, is maddening. every track is an obnoxious slow beat with a bit of strumming here and there. the album is not catchy or interesting; it's just endless repetition. "concrete jungle" is the closest i got to liking a song, and that was just the opener! points for being politically radical i guess, but this was miserable and headache inducing.

fuck this

Not today, reggae, not ever.

Brutal listen, not my genre but it’s so repetitive and nothing is remotely catchy. Don’t see myself revisiting either the whole album or even any one individual song. 🚮

ok, did the usual approach with reggae: 1. listen to a couple songs. 2. stop. 3. never think about it again. the usual votum: good music for smoking weed, rubbish for anything else.

Absolutely not

Ooof, I really hate Bob Marley and reggae in general. It's like disco for stoners, it's just too repetetive and boring for my taste. I guess that's not true, I do like Marley's ska stuff but the reggae stuff is just unbearable for me. Well, I listened to is anyway and that is 44 minutes I will never get back. No shade to people who love this music but reggae hurt me in ways I will never recover. 0 out of 10 stars.

Hey, Bob Marley. That's another name I've heard before. Through having listened to Maverick a Strike five albums ago, I possess the required knowledge to correctly predict that this fellow is a reggae artist. That's kind of a shock, really. I always thought this guy was a singer/songwriter. It's also crazy to know that there was once a time where reggae had some degree of mainstream appeal. Yup, reggae. I'm always down to diversify the ol' musical palette every once in a while. That being said, this is boring as shit. Not a reggae guy, what can I say? I've said the same about half of the genres in the book at this point. Is something wrong with me. Anyways, the backing vocals are decent and Marley is a competent vocalist for this style of music, though the musical sensibilities of reggae are just so goldarn restrictive. Even for a 35-minute album, I felt that this was too long-winded. "Slave Driver" is a good tune. Very reggae, and by extension very relaxing. Vocals are good, too. I had a good ol' snooze for the rest of the album, however. I won't lie. Book time. Pioneering album in reggae. First to achieve success within the rock market. Yeah, sure. We can have reggae on the list, even if it is a genre that kind of exists on its own island and is incredibly unremarkable. I cosign this inclusion. ================== Happy album number 365. A whole year on this fuuuuucking site. It's been much longer than that in reality, but I've been going strong with the weekend albums for about half a year now. I normally reserve these milestone posts for every hundredth album I listen to, so I'm kinda strapped for things to talk about. I hope I roll an album I really like sometime in the immediate future. I enjoyed going bonkers mode in my review of Gorillaz. Anyways, here's to album #730, baybeeeeee! I can't think of a better time to be hitting my annual milestone than right at the end of the year.

i don't like reggae at all, but for the ones who likes it is alright

Never heard this before….Completely left me cold. Just can lt see what all the fuss is about tbh.

The only time Reggae is acceptable is at a pool bar, played quietly. Other than that its shit music. Slow, repetitive and most of the time the lyrics don't even make sense. It's not cool you smoke weed, it smells like stank-ass and you look like a bellend, maybe you should find something in life you enjoy instead of having to use drugs??? Rather than making love how about you make a decent fucking song??? Fuck off Bob

There's two genres of music in this world that I can't fucking stand. The first is heavy metal, the second is reggae

Dont like it

Rating: 1.4 Hey buddy, maybe just MAYBE you don’t have to repeat the title 800 times and make that the entire contents of the song!

Justtttt can't do reggae that's this samey (lasted three songs)

Bob Marley is volgens mij gewoon niet mijn ding. Sorry alle oude mensen die mij nu haten.

Reggae is not my thing. Unbearable in the long run.

Sounds painful.

Urgh, I'm sorry I just don't get reggae or the Bob Marley hype.
