I think its very nice and trippy. For an ambient album it is extremely entertaining. This is definitely early LCD soundsystem inspired tripped out soundscapes you could get stoned to and be totally entertained. Would listen to again.

Sounds very ahead of its time and like many things I’ve heard released after it. Solid points for that but wouldn’t go back and ever listen again. Rating: 2.9

This mostly sounds like background music for watching the night sky, but you want to turn it off and just enjoy the view.

Ugh. This is so pointless. I mean, the PRODUCTION is neat but the final PRODUCT is... just pointless. I want to fail it for wasting my time but I just can't, in good conscience, do so because the production is unique. Not good, mind you. Just unique.

This sounded like background music at a science center documentary. It was a little too abstract to be interesting.

Maybe if I was writing a sci-fi novel, this might make some interesting inspirational background music. But, on it's own it plays more like an interesting experiment than actual music.

I think it's possible for music to be groundbreaking AND fun (see 'Blue Monday' by New Order). This was just self-indulgent space noise better suited to a Kubrick soundtrack.

I’m sure this is good for fans of the genre but not for me.

Not particularly surprised by the low score on this one. Many people would just call this avant-garde noise and move on. Maybe not entirely incorrect, I guess... But as someone who adores electronic music and is trying to get into ambient music, this is a beautiful album. I love how the soundscapes morph and transform through the pieces, I love how the synthesizers paint an environment that is simultaneously futuristic and natural. I don't care that the title track is 18 minutes long, it changes form so much through the course of the song, and I think it could probably be likened to a classical piece in some respects, with how it has quiet parts that crescendo and fade away. The remaining three songs are each shorter than the title track, the longest being nearly ten minutes and the shortest not much longer than two minutes. They are all just as sweeping, ambient and interesting as the title track, but I must say that I particularly loved Movements Of A Visionary for its arpegiated synth working with other synths and organs to paint one of the colder, darker pictures of the album, but it's cold and dark in very much the same way that space is. There's an especially weightless feeling to that track, and it makes it perhaps the most incredible ambient track I've ever heard. In some ways I can see how the synthesizers and oscillators of the day were more their own bespoke instruments rather than the sleek, computer-controlled, DAW-driven electronic tracks that form much of the popular music scene now. It was interesting to read and hear how the music would change and detune through the performance of Phaedra due to equipment warming up. It's genuinely interesting to me, reading about these kinds of hurdles and imperfections that artists had to deal with as the pioneers and trailblazers of new genres, styles and techniques. It really paid off though, because even fifty years on, this sounds just as wonderful and space-age as it must have done upon release. The more I read about Tangerine Dream, the more interesting it seems to get. While it's not particularly noteworthy that it's a band that has outlived its founder, it's interesting to see how many people have been part of the band since its inception in 1967. There's some "Ship of Theseus" discussions to be had about what makes a band a band, but it's great to see how it still exists, and I hope that Tangerine Dream can continue to live on in this way long into the future. They seem like the type of band to do that. Also it was interesting to see that Tangerine Dream helped compose the score for Grand Theft Auto V, but honestly it doesn't really surprise me. The OST was a masterpiece (Not even including the licensed tracks) and I firmly believe it is one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time. It's pretty interesting to see that this was recorded in a village barely 10 miles away from me. What happened, Oxfordshire? There used to be so many studios... It's an interesting link to a city I saw while I was still too young to understand and appreciate it. Someday I'll go back to Berlin to immerse myself properly into this scene. Gorgeous, gorgeous album. I'll definitely be looking more into Tangerine Dream's impressive discography after this one. Favourite: Movements Of A Visionary

Enough: wtf was this? It was some weird depressive soundscape. Legit could hear the same level of music on any music youtube 24/7 livestream with 20 viewers. So incredibly mid and unremarkable. No thanks.

Ambient, atmospheric and whilst resolutely in the background, it is not unpleasant and I think more interesting than the overrated Oxygene from a year or two later, however my 6 year old Jack was not so complimentary!

It's not a great sign when I check how many tracks are on an album while listening and think "oh good, only four".

Tangerine Dream were ahead of their time. Beautiful ambient record. There's something special about this era of ambient music. The 70s had this certain synth sound that hits different.

I understand why the album was included as it helped usher in electronic music as a genre. It’s an early entry, however, and simplistic compared to more modern albums.

It's hard to have much to say about some of this early electronic work, but I certainly enjoy it. Tangerine Dream shares some similarities with Kraftwerk in terms of their use of synthesizers and sequencers, but this feels much more spacey and ambient than anything from Kraftwerk. It's progressive, but there's always something interesting happening. There's a lot of music that came after this album that was clearly influenced by it 4/5

Growing up with a brother who was a huge Tangerine Dream fan in the 80s, I heard a lot of their music growing up. I was a bit surprised, then, that I didn't really recognize any of this. I would probably add to that that I didn't feel that there was much that was memorable here, actually. I am guessing that this might be on the list more for its place in music history than as the "best" TD work, introducing a new genre of electronic music in 1974. I definitely appreciated it, but I didn't love it. And my brother reports that this one is not even in his top ten.

Not much here drawing me in. I doubt I would recognize any track specifically, if I heard it again. On the other hand, nothing that I heard hurt my feelings.

I’m sure I’ve heard some of this before as I had a roommate in college who was into Tangerine Dream. I also held a job where part of my duties were running the board for a New Age radio show in the 90s. Many a Sunday morning I struggled to remain awake to ethereal, New Age music (do we still use that term?). I enjoy this music. I played the album 5 times today, although I must admit that was because I kept dozing off as I listened to it. Even the cover art looks to me like an infant curled up in a blanket sleeping. I intend that as a compliment because it put me in a very relaxed place.

This quasi-futuristic music sounds vaguely familiar. So I soon realize it reminded me of the background music at Disney World in Tommorowland and Epcot. I like that atmospheric background stuff as it adds to the experience there so I liked this album especially as I had no idea going into it what it was. This would also be good music to hear in space whenever I go there. More likely it will be added to the next playlist for a long road trip, ideally timed to sunrise.

This album sounded to me like a synthesizer in store demo mode. I realize that's likely ignoring the historical significance, and that in 1974 these sounds and style may have been groundbreaking, but it just came off as very vanilla electronic music.

Mellotron-heavy songs that sound like a film score. This record must have influenced many artists I admire but this one doesn't do much for me. It gets too noodley for my taste and does not evoke much more than "futuristic robot space music" vibes. I'm giving this one a soft three because I do love electronic music.

Beautifully hypnotic is how I would categorize this. I won't return to it but I'm glad to have listened to it.

This album spent far more time in the genre that would become known as “ambient” than I expected. I've enjoyed the works of TD and their influence for many years, but it dawned on me while listening that this might be the first album I've listened to from beginning to end—certainly one of the earliest. While I enjoy some of their other works more in the traditional electronic or “space ambient” genres, this is still a serviceable piece for background, relaxation, and reflection. I may return to it one day, something to add additional variations in my rotation of ambient and meditative music.

For what it is, it's fine, but this sure felt longer than 38 minutes. Kinda liked the first track, kinda bored by the rest.

While this record is enjoyable I can't see myself returning to it often. I don't find myself listening to ambient as frequently as I used to and when I do I find some random artist on bandcamp. It is beautiful though.

This band was obviously very prominent and influential in the electronic and ambient music scene. Those types of music aren't something I'd generally listen to on a regular basis. I thought this record was a bit boring and minimal, but I guess that's the point. I am glad I listened to it though, definitely worth including on this list.

Well, only part of the album was available on Spotify, but what I could listen to sounded like what would be playing when you’re walking through one of those airport tunnels with the trippy lights.

Maybe ok to meditate too, I was listening in the car and I forgot I was even listing to an album only to be reminded by a ping. I like songs with music. I get it’s its own thing but not really worthy of this list in my opinion.

Nice work, generator. Contemporary reviews on the wiki for yesterday’s Jean-Michel Jarre album compared it (unfavourably) to Tangerine Dream, so now’s a good time for me to decide for myself. I found Phaedra to be more symphonic (less poppy), perhaps more sophisticated, certainly more eerie, and undeniably earlier to the party than Oxygène. But as good? Not for me. Feels like something that’d work well as a soundtrack but it's not very enjoyable to listen to on its own. It gets a 2nd star for pushing/smashing through some of the musical boundaries of its time.

At times unsettling and other times just fades away into the background, fades so far I forgot I was listening to anything. I can't really grasp this - undoubtedly a fascinating audio experiment and something that surely broke new ground - but an album to return to? I will pass.

Great.... More ambient alien sex music. This is not music as far as I can tell. My first thought was that it sounded like video game loading screen music, and turns out it is! These guys scored the music for GTA 5. This garbage has no place on any greatest albums list. Reminds me a lot of Jean-Michel Jarre. The album generator wanted me to listen to the deluxe edition of this album, but fuck that. Like hell I'm subjecting myself to an extra almost 2 hrs of this shit. I'd rather listen to owls fuck. Favourite song: Sequent C, simply because it is the shortest song on this shitty record. Least favourite songs: All of it. No redeeming qualities. Utter trash. A waste of 38 minutes of my life. 1/5

Good study music or music to drift off into an imaginal space. Probably would help if I was stoned to really drift off with the music. I can see why they moved into film scores. Will keep in my back pocket for work/study. I can imagine this being quite revolutionary when released.

This sounds like it could have been the soundtrack to a trippy '70s sci-fi movie, or a more recent film with a retro vibe, like "Beyond the Black Rainbow." It's not something I'd generally listen to, but I imagine it'd be quite the experience after taking some psychedelics. 2.5 stars.

I know Tangerine Dream thanks to the movie Legend. Their score is beautifully woven into the film, and it's the only version of the movie I'll watch (there's another version that has a generic orchestra & it's just no good). I loved listening to Phaedra. It's eerie and lovely at the same time. Along with Kraftwerk, Sparks, Eno, and Giorgio Moroder, TD were fundamental in influencing all electronic & synth music that followed. This reminded me a bit of Eno's Music for Airports with its soundscapes. I'll admit that it wasn't an easy listen, but music shouldn't always be an easy experience. Beautifully done & I'll definitely revisit. 4.5 stars.

Track 1 doet me denken aan die scène in Bassie & Adriaan: de Huilende Professor, waar Adriaan al duikend in een, zoals later zal blijken, door "de Kapitein" achtergelaten uitrusting op de op de Canarische Eilanden op zoek gaat naar de ingang van het lab van Professor Chagrijn. Die scène werd begeleid door Spiral van Vangelis, wat ook een beetje in deze hoek zit. Track 2 past perfect in de soundtrack van Starfield. Mooie meanderende geluiden die je het idee geven dat je op een kale, kille planeet bent beland. Of België in januari. Track 3 klinkt als een naderende ambulance en traumahelicopter nadat je je val van de trap hebt gebroken met je hoofd. Dit is misschien wel de vaagste van de 4 tracks. Track 4 mag geen naam hebben eigenlijk. Net 2 minuten lang. Een soort houdoe en bedankt. Leuk album om een keer doorheen te gaan. Bijzonder. Ik zie het mezelf niet nog een keer aanzetten onder welke omstandigheden dan ook. Tussen de 3 a 4 sterren.

An impressive early influence to all sorts of modern electronic music, the German scene in the late 60's and 70's was awash with Discotheques ready to nurture this kind of music. The greater use of synthesizers and sequencers will go on to shape an entire genre. Ultimately though, it fell a bit flat to me. Though wildly influential this is not something I would put on for myself. I'm glad I checked the track listing online and only listened to the proper album and not the two hours of bonus content

Kraftwerk tends to get a lot of credit for pioneering electronic music, and rightfully so, but people will often forget that there was an entire was an entire flavor of sound from Berlin. It focused heavily on multi-layered sequencers to create rich, ambient spaces akin to the likes of Krautrock. The synthesizer found a lot of use during the 1970's as it was an exciting new instrument, wild and begging to be tamed. You will not hear a single drum on this album, real or otherwise. Rhythms are subtle and developed using steady arpeggios. It is an extremely atmospheric piece of work, and if you don't like your music stretched out and spacey then you're not going to like this. But for Berlin in 1974, this broke ground. In truth, most of the good stuff is in the title track. Thankfully that's 17 minutes so you get a lot of good stuff. The rest of the album depends on your ability to tolerate a lot of electronic experimentation. Some stuff works, some stuff doesn't. I happen to enjoy this album enough that I would give it a hearty thumbs up, but I also recognize that it might be too weird for others.

Tangerine Dream put me to sleep with this album. The opening to Phaedra sounds like white noise I might play in the background after shutting down for the night. Then we move into what sounds like background music for the dramatic moment of a sci fi film. I’m tapping out before my head hits my desk in the middle of the workday.

Svårt! Inte för att det gör ont i öronen på något sätt, snarare tvärtom, men det blir inte heller något som helst utslag på EKG-mätaren. Elektronisk, ambient music. Långa låtar, första nästan 18 minuter, där inget händer. Mer passande bakgrundsmusik i en film, men inget jag vill lyssna på bara för att lyssna. Kul kuriosa att Tangerine Dream hjälpte göra soundtracket till GTA V.

Being a fan of electronic/ambient music, of course I have heard of Tangerine Dream, and I even know some of their later works. This album, however, had escaped my attention so far. I am glad that I found it, because it comprises of a classic, even prototypical electronic sound, which the likes of Kraftwerk, Jarre (especially - I can hear traits of Oxygene, Equinoxe and Magnetic Fields in this one album) and Vangelis obviously drew a lot of inspiration from. The soundscapes here are always interesting and layered, making for a very enjoyable listening experience. 4/5

Eerie and hypnotic but not too memorable

It suprises me how many people dislike this or find it boring. Horses for courses I guess. I like this genre and find it very relaxing and meditative but then I'm not a young gad fly flitting about on shiny new things.

This record has some great ambient music, the sounds are very ethereal. It is a beautiful soundtrack to passing work, what other purpose is there for this. Each song sounds sonic and alien, and I think that is beautiful. Favourites: Phaedra / Movements Of A Visionary

Tampoco se mataban: una canción de 17 minutos en una cara y 3 más en la otra que suman unos 20 minutos más. He escuchado cosas mejores de ellos y tiene la gracia de ser una de las opciones de música para elegir en el capítulo Black Mirror: Bandersnatch de 2018. En fin, como es tan corto no da tiempo a aburrirte así que 3 estrellas.

I love love electronic music

Perfect soundscape album. It took me ages to discover it but when I did was the perfect time. It is really hard to describe the effect this album had on me. After it was suggest led by a friend, I found myself playing it on repeat, lost in a world of sound. Best of all it shut out all the noise from the world and I was able to win back some focus I had lost.

The soundscape on a Tangerine Dream is always lovely, with really intricate and balanced synths, but I always feel like something is missing, especially in the overall form of each track, and the album in general. It's like sitting in a aural hot tub; a good place to chill, but don't expect it to take you on a journey

OK, Wikipedia tells me this album was historically important. I accept that, even if I've never heard of it before. Regardless of history, today I found this an album about nothing. But unlike Seinfeld, which is excellent through and through, this music is going nowhere.

Although there are other TD albums I prefer to this one, Phaedra is still awesome. I’ll happily have this on in the background while at work or chilling at home.

Epic, layered soundscapes and beautiful, layered melodies. The later 2 tracks aren't as detailed but this still ranks as one of the top ambient/prog albums.

Listening to first track Phaedra, it is really hard to believe this came out in 1974. This is some really experimental, early trance / ambient music. I haven't been focusing hard on this, but the atmosphere has been pretty tense all the way through. Super eerie with lots of layered effects. Feels sort of similar to the psych atmospheres that Pink Floyd has made in some of their lesser-structured pieces. I was heads down for the next two songs, but both sounded like solid atmospheric drones. Reminds me a bit of Fennesz, but way earlier and more moody (I think). The album rounds out with short, but sweet Sequent 'C'. I should probably go back and listen to this one again start to finish. This album was probably a bombshell at its time; hard to imagine many others were doing anything similar with electronic music. 4/5

Ok, I appreciate the ambient trailblazing going on here, but this is not my bag.

Very interesting and unique. Sound is light yet spacious and serious, drifting you through the clouds. The kind of ambient music I can get behind. Not something I would have sought out on my own, but a cool project that I'm glad the list introduced to me.

This would probably be a vibe if I was high. In fact, I feel like I'm getting kind of a contact high from listening alone, which is admittedly pretty cool. However, with all my wits about me, this sounds like little more than movie sound effects pieced together into songs.

It does not help at all that the only version I have access to is the two hour thirty five minute version on youtube music. ugh. ugh. ugh.

I'm definitely recognize the cool and interesting aspects of this, particularly given that it was released in 1974. It is definitely a headphones, close your eyes and imagine the space journey. glad i listened to it, though i don't see really going back to it. solid.

While I enjoy music made with synthesizers, I need more of a beat and a rhythm. I didn't mind this and it made for pleasant driving music, but I don't seek out this type of atmospheric noise.

Wibbily wibble wibble. Can definitely see how it would have been revolutionary it's day - kosmische indeed.

Young adults in Germany during the late 1960’s and early 70’s were in an incredibly tough spot: They were either born in the shadow of atrocity or at the end of its reign. Their country was split in two and many of the people in positions of power - parents, teachers, judges, etc - had either been silently complicit or willing participants in the horrors wrought by Nazism only two decades earlier. They were looking to escape their past, to create a new identity for themselves, for their country; an identity that didn’t borrow from the new world super powers, something unique to who they were as Germans in a post-World War II world. An identity that would say to the world, “we are not who our parents were.” Something that was new, something radical. When the place you were born is responsible for one of the most despicable acts in human history and the entire world knows it, where do you go to escape? Space. At least, that’s where the Germans went. Kosmische music (“cosmic music”) was the ultimate artistic expression of that desire for a new cultural identity. Using electronic instruments (sometimes in combination with traditional rock instrumentation, sometimes not), bands like Tangerine Dream, Can, Cluster, NEU!, Faust, Kraftwerk and others created a sound like nothing else in the world at the time: It was experimental and uncompromising, pushing the boundaries of what music was and could be. They experimented with noise, repetition, unconventional and extreme sounds to create an otherworldly ambience. It’s safe to say that they probably didn’t know how much they would change the world. They were only looking to forge a new identity for themselves, but they ended up providing a blueprint for the future of music. Phaedra, like many of the Kosmische records of the era, can be measured by the sheer amount of influence it had on the music that would follow it, which continues to this day, but that is not the whole story. This is music that, 50 years on, does not sound dated. In fact, it still sounds ahead of its time somehow, like it’s being beamed to us from the future. The German experimental music scene of the 1970’s is one worth delving into, not only because of its profound influence on modern music, but also as study of artistic expression: It’s not outside the realm of possibility that we will find ourselves in a similar situation to the German youth of the sixties and seventies one day. …and maybe that is why this music sounds as though it comes from a not-too-distant future. (Postscript: There is an excellent BBC documentary, “Krautrock: The Rebirth of Germany”, that covers the German experimental music scene in great detail, which ended up being a source of inspiration while writing this review, along with my long time love of German experimental rock. This could be the Oscar nominated soundtrack from Dances With Whales. It stars Kevin Costner as an irascible, old, ship captain who sails the world aimlessly while seeking meaning for his life through the song of the sea. Spoiler alert. Much like this album, that meaning is nowhere to be found.

Here is what this album made me think of. It felt like I was listening to a story of a robot who was stuck in a desert wandering. The robot thinks it’s a human and is desperately searching for water. The robot passes many oasis’s and presses on slowly melting from the suns heat. The robot is lost and abandoned, it thinks there are people waiting for its return home but little does it know it was abandoned and left to rust. (That was kind of dark)

It’s clear this album is the inspiration for so many electronic music acts. It’s heavily experimental and psychedelic, while also being a bit more structured. I’m giving this 4 stars because while I don’t think I could personally listen to this album every day, it’s definitely an important album.

When I first started listening to this album, I didn’t notice that it came out in 1974. I was blown away when I saw that this album wasn’t from the 90s and later. My god is this album ahead of its time. The sequencer driven spacey progressive ambient music has been incredibly influential. Elements of this music can be heard in just about every genre now, from rock to hip hop. The music is just so expansive, yet it is all encompassing and fills the space well.

The link in Apple Music took me to Phaedra Revisited which was re-recorded by Tangerine Dream in 2005. Be sure to seek out the original 1974 release - it's much better!

Matching the title track proves impossible; With synths as instruments, instruments as novel space, Tangerine Dream erect something mostly wished-for these days. Thankfully, there were also lessons well-taken in this album's wake.

For 1973 this is lightyears ahead of its time. kind of a listless, floating soundscape. not really my thing but sure.

Reminds me of the soundscapes that Gabe from The Office creates. I definitely recommend headphones or a good stereo system for this album. I kinda like these songs as like a background sound to a weird art exhibit or halloween, but 2 AND A HALF HOURS??? Seeing as this is from 1974 I feel like this is probably one of the first uses of the synthesizer, and thus the forefront of electronic music as a whole. I honestly like the music, but the length of it all would require some psychedelics to keep my attention. Not really a good album to listen to while working. Maybe this could be the soundtrack to some abstract film that I wouldn't watch.

Some of this early electronic music is absolutely mesmerizing to me. 1974??? Felt like I was in a movie soundscape for most of this. Could see this being used in like Bladerunner 2049 or some shit.

Dreamy, floating and not unpleasant but never really moves beyond the science-experiment level impacts, however groundbreaking tech-wise it might have been. Seems worth pondering how their inclusion on the Risky Business soundtrack would play with this opinionated crowd of highly refined tastemakers.

Score: 80 Album art: 80 A beautiful soundscape album with a cold, otherworldly feel. It's very easy to imagine a story in your mind to match the music. A sense of hopelessness and loneliness with an extremely small touch of hope mixed in. Phaedra is the best track though and the most interesting, and if you didn't like it you won't like the rest of the album as it's basically just 1 40 minute long song. I imagined an explorer trapped on a cold alien planet seeking refuge only to die in the end. A lot of the little synthesizer plucks sound like little creatures or birds and it adds to that feeling. Favorite tracks: Phaedra No least favorites

Heard of this group, didn't realize they made 100 albums or scored GTA5 (sick). Weird alien space electronic music. Mostly calming but sometimes spooky. Sounds like it could be the score for a 80s sci-fi film.. I believe this sounds ahead of it's time, but not really for me. 2.5/5

Enjoyed this genuinely new-to-me find today. Wish there was a bit more verve to the melodies and instrumentation, but this was a solid early electronica album that provided some enjoyment and a few surprises along the way.

The very essence of "in one ear and out the other". None of this was bad, per se, but other than some cool switching between audio sources, there isn't much here.

If TRON was a 37-minute movie, this album would be a perfect soundtrack and I can even see similarities between this and Daft Punk's score for the sequel. It sounds so futuristic, ethereal, and timeless all at the same time. It's not quite as powerful as Oxygene but it's definitely what I wished I got out of Kraftwerk's music. The first two tracks were the strongest.

It's a very textured lush ambient album. Possibly the first. Though my teenage daughter asked me if I was listening to relaxation music for work, which may give you some idea of how exciting it is.

My highly refined musical prejudices should make me run a mile from this shit. I needn't have worried. It was the first thing I listened to today. It was the perfect soundtrack for my online catch up as I slowly eased into the morning with endless mugs of hot tea. It got a little Dungeons and Dragons. I came close to bailing. Soundscapes drifted in and out, not quite sufficient to grab my attention, but decent background music all the same. Classic of the ambient genre

Layers and layers of mesmerizing sounds from legendary pioneers. Very much of its time, when everything about electronic music still needed to be discovered. And yet also nothing like what came after in that overall genre or umbrella style. Plus, one can still potentially trip or chill out to this today, just as hippies did in 1974. Tangerine Dream's early output is a little like good wine. It ages well. In a way, the retro-sci-fi mood *Phaedra* can trigger in you is even more impactful today, because it is now infused with the sort of "future nostalgia" very rare acts have been able to reach since (I'm talking about Boards Of Canada here, *not* about Dua Lipa, obviously 😉). The two other gems Tangerine Dream released after this one (*Rubycon* and *Stratosfear*) were admittedly lmore melodic and less "abstract", comparatively speaking. But none had *Phaedra*'s sheer conceptual power and unique atmosphere. Hence its direct inclusion in my own list. Number of albums left to review: 689 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 152 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 71 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 87

I only knew this group from soundtracks, primarily the one for Risky Business, and had no idea they were German. I wasn’t expecting this to be quite so “experimental” I guess. It was not for me, mostly due to the endless repetition of very short sequences. Maybe I’m not sophisticated enough to detect the nuance, it just seemed like a bunch of synth noodling.

"Dad, was that your album of the day?" "...I don't know" Seriously though, what the hell is this? It's not relaxing, nor exciting, nor remarkable to my ears in any way. When would you listen to this? Why would you listen to this? It's just there: a'bleepin' and a'bloopin' and occasionally making sounds that I've heard come out of my dryer. This seems like something for the snobby, avant garde crowd who will sneer at a normie like me for not appreciating it. They can have it.

The title track sounds like the score to a sci-fi or horror movie. “Mysterious Semblance…” is beautiful. I was drawn in by those warped tones that almost sound like music being played underwater. I don’t listen to enough ambient music to be a proper judge of how good this album is or how groundbreaking it might have been. But I was moved by some passages and I’d like to listen to it more. This would make great background music for writing. I’ll have to find the right project that matches this tone. Could be a fun way to listen to it more and get into it.

The first 2 tracks of this album weren't available on Spotify so I went and found them on YouTube. Interesting that this is most likely the shortest album on the list so far, and if it isn't then it's definitely the shortest track-amount wise. Nice album overall, gives off classical "new music" vibes to me. Early synth work in this space with lots of repetition for an output that is meditative and reflective. Slightly boring.

1 Beep beep boop boop beep beep boop boop. This is like Pink Floyd but if every song they wrote was like "On the Run". On the Run works within the confines of Dark Side. On the Run does not work for me as a 37 minute standalone album. I can see how this could could be majorly influential for the genre of electronica in the years ahead, but truthfully, it's never been a genre I've been particularly fond of. I feel like it just kinda stresses me out and like I need to be on some kind of drug to get it. I don't get this album, and it kind of stressed me out. Especially whatever that screeching noise was near the end of Phaedra... egh. Unrelated to my review, I learned Tangerine Dream did the scoring to Grand Theft Auto V and that stuff was pretty cool.

Yep! Time to find out finally what these were all about. So it's not Krautrock. I like half of the first track, very atmospheric. 2nd track could be the soundtrack to Dune. Ok, all of that was so wonderfully chilled, I loved it. Was starting to feel pretty aggravated before I listened and now I feel much better.

I don't really have an objective way to judge these kinds of albums. They all sound the same to me, but somehow I like certain ones better than others. I liked this one but couldn't possibly say why.

Style over substance. I was waiting over the whole album duration for something to happen... Anything. Instead, I was given the middle part of 'Echoes' by Pink Floyd, but without the essence or culmination in Gilmour and Wright's vocals. It feels like I'm massively missing a context to those songs, that would allow me to enjoy the melodies and noises without being too sceptical or unsure of what I'm listening to. This album is on the list probably because of its innovative approach and use of never before used equipment to generate music. But in my opinion, does it pass the test of time? No.
