Makes dishwater feel exciting

This is an album of non songs. It evokes nothing, means nothing, and does nothing. What is this? The wiki says it's the 5th album by this band. How is that possible? Sometimes this list is total shit

Calling this alt-country is like calling Metallica alt-disco, which is no comment on the music, just the inanity of the genre designation. As for my comment on the music: too limp and too slight. There are definitely some nostalgic reflexes in here, but I'm not sure what era they're harking back to and I'm not sure Wagner is either.

This sounds like nothing that was going on around 2000. Almost like it should be in the 60s or 70s. It’s weird. Trying to figure out where this fits in the realm of 1001 albums I have to listen to. I feel like countless bands did this better 30-40 years before these guys did this. 1 star because I can’t give it zero.

Wow. This sucked. Like genuinely, this is absolutely atrocious and borderline unlistenable. I found nothing redeeming in this and was relieved when it finally ended after 50 minutes. Too long, too repetitive, the music sucks and the vocals are horrible. Good god, the vocals are so bad. How can you make a song like "You Masculine You" and think you've created art. I'm almost 150 albums deep and this is was the hardest thing to finish save for maybe L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods. Watergate.

Bored the tits off me

This one was a nice surprise. Took me a bit to warm up to it but I’ve listened to it a few times in a row now. Kinda reminds me a bit of Destroyer.

Very good. Love the instrumentation and think he has a very interesting voice. Very easy to listen to whilst not being boring.

reallly goooooood

Hell yeah. I love old men singling about their sunsetting life. The music breaks down around them while they try to keep it together with their weakening voice. Each song wants to break and fall apart but the sparse and broken vocals somehow keep it together. There’s a special type of sensibility that can make an album like this.

A welcome surprise!

A stone cold classic, innovative flawlessly cool.

Not sure what I was heading into with this one, but I really dug this one. 4.5 bumped up to 5.

A wild dreamy intersection of pop, Countrypolitan, and indie music. In the vein of Cindy Lee. You don’t really know where you are, what time it is, or what is happening. But it happens in a way that washes over you with sound and simple turns of phrase to bore into your mind. Super cool man.

It is very interesting album. I never heard it before. Thank you. I get it in one breath. The Petrified Florist reminded me The Human Menagerie and The Psychomodo by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.

Beautiful and serene. I actually dig the falsetto this guy is doing. "The Distance From Her To There" was a standout track, I got that falsetto chorus still stuck in my head. This kind of reminds me of that Richard Hawley album that's on the list, and I love that one too

Baš krasan album

Pretty good listen! I enjoyed this and wondered why I haven't heard more from them. Will be back for more!

An absolute gem of an album

Overall: 9/10 Damn, what a beautiful album. An incredible mix of pop, soul and country that really shouldn't work but somehow it does. It's albums like this that keep me coming back to this list. Fav Song: What Else Could It Be?

calm a fall listen

I find this beautiful, challenging and brave. They weave their sound and influences with little consideration of marketable genre and admire the effort and outcome. Will definitely listen again.

Fav: Grumpus Least Fav: You Masculine You Country is listenable to me when it has an alt vibe, and this is no exception. Thoroughly enjoyed

4.8 - Liked them before, glad they are here. Just a great band and great album

This was surprisingly good. Get the album as a poster

This is so relaxing and pleasant. I visualise all the songs I listen to in my head, and none have produced more joyous imagery than this album.

Wow. Nostalgic magnificent dramatic. Those string arangements tho!

Great album

Beautiful, wistful album, not sure why it's not getting much love on here. Lambchop are new to me - brought to mind slower elements of Super Furry Animals/Gruff Rhys crossed with Grandaddy. You can hear some turn of the century vibes, but overall I found this had a pretty timeless sound.

Masterpiece

Excellent

9/10 An absolute delight of a surprise. Loved this. Chamber pop country soul, understated and awesome. Lovely production, lots of brass and strings. Best: Up With People

chamber pop and alt-country are genres i love on their own and they sound amazing when they’re combined here

Love this, the “How I Met Cat Power” versions are great too

I'm trying to work out why I love this album so much. When they get into that soulful groove I don't care that his falsetto doesn't fit the mark. When they're getting sad I don't care that he sometimes hits a flat note. I think he might be another Dylan: superb lyrics with a voice that conveys emotion.

This was pleasantly enjoyable

Lambchop es un artista esencial en los 90-00. Con una producción inmaculada, How I quite smoking, Is a woman o este Nixon, son discos realmente buenos. Grumpus fue un merecido éxito y Up with people aún más. Otras gemas son The Old Gold Shoe o Nashville Parent, aunque cualquier tema es único y especial. Otros discos del 2000: COLDPLAY- Parachutes, PJ HARVEY - Stories from the city, stories from the sea, YO LA TENGO - And then nothing turned itself inside-out, THE JAYHAWKS - Smile, EELS - Daisies of the galaxy, THE WATERBOYS - A rock in the weary land, ELLIOTT SMITH - Figure 8, RADIOHEAD-Kid A , U2-All that you can't leave behind, MADONNA-Music , QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE-Rated R , Dakota Suite- Signal Hill, David Gray- White Ladder, Mojave 3- Excuses for travellers, Piano Magic -Artists´ Rifles, D'Angelo- Voodoo, Primal Scream- XTRMNTR, Goldfrapp- Felt Mountain, Death Cab for Cutie- We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, Doves- Lost Souls, Black Box Recorder- The facts of life, Calexico- Hot Rail, Ágætis Byrjun (Sigu Ros), The Sophtware Slump (Grandaddy), The Marshall Mathers (Eminem), Skantonia (Outkast), Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (Godspeed you black emperor!), Since i left you (The Avalanches), The Noise Made by People (Broadcast), The great eastern (The Delgados), The Friends of Rachel Worth (The Go-Betweens), Tourist (St. Germain), Community Music (Asian Dub Foundation), Chore of Enchantment (Giant Sand) y otro monumento en forma de triple álbum como es 69 lovesongs (The Magnetic fields). Hasta Born to Do It de Craig David o A Grand Don't Come for Free de The Streets y Music de Madonna).

Such a good album!

Not what I was expecting. The trumpet was such a rich add. “you masculine you” sounded very much like a precursor to Phoebe Bridget’s Punisher.

A really nice mellow album that I actually really like. Hmmmmm.... I'm getting old. It's a super nice 70's mellow soul feel with some "countryish" sounds mixed in. Lover it!

**Album Review: Nixon by Lambchop** *Released:* February 7, 2000 *Genre:* Alternative Country, Indie Rock *Label:* Merge Records *Producer:* Mark Nevers, Kurt Wagner **Introduction** "Nixon," Lambchop's fifth studio album, stands as a hallmark of modern alternative country and indie rock. Blending intricate musical arrangements with introspective lyrics, the album showcases Lambchop's evolution under the creative vision of frontman Kurt Wagner. This review delves into the album’s lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, providing a balanced analysis of its strengths and weaknesses. **Lyrics** Kurt Wagner’s lyrics on "Nixon" are a tapestry of poetic imagery and mundane observations. His storytelling is subtle, often weaving complex emotions into everyday scenarios. For instance, in "The Old Gold Shoe," Wagner juxtaposes domestic life with existential musings, creating a narrative that feels both intimate and expansive. The lyrics often require multiple listens to fully appreciate their depth and nuance. *Pros:* - Poetic and richly detailed lyrics that offer depth and require contemplation. - Effective use of imagery and metaphor to convey complex emotions. *Cons:* - The abstract nature of some lyrics might alienate listeners seeking straightforward narratives. **Music** Musically, "Nixon" is a lush, genre-blending masterpiece. The album combines elements of country, soul, jazz, and pop, resulting in a sound that is both eclectic and cohesive. The opening track, "The Old Gold Shoe," sets the tone with its orchestral arrangement, featuring strings, horns, and a gentle groove that underpins Wagner’s vocals. Tracks like "Up With People" showcase a more upbeat, soulful vibe, complete with a gospel choir that adds a layer of exuberance to the album. *Pros:* - Rich, multi-layered arrangements that blend various genres seamlessly. - Use of orchestral elements adds depth and sophistication to the sound. *Cons:* - Some tracks may feel overproduced to listeners who prefer a raw, stripped-down sound. **Production** Produced by Mark Nevers and Kurt Wagner, "Nixon" is a meticulously crafted album. The production quality is pristine, with every instrument and vocal part occupying its own space in the mix. The attention to detail is evident in tracks like "The Book I Haven’t Read," where subtle sonic textures enhance the listening experience. The use of reverb and echo gives the album a spacious, almost cinematic quality. *Pros:* - High production values that highlight the album’s intricate arrangements. - Creative use of studio effects to enhance the overall sound. *Cons:* - The polished production might detract from the album’s organic feel for some listeners. **Themes** "Nixon" explores themes of everyday life, love, loss, and the passage of time. Wagner’s lyrics often reflect on the mundane aspects of existence, imbuing them with a sense of importance and beauty. The album also touches on social and political themes, though these are more subtly integrated into the personal narratives. For example, "Up With People" can be interpreted as a commentary on collective action and hope. *Pros:* - Thoughtful exploration of universal themes through a personal lens. - Balance of introspective and socially aware lyrics. *Cons:* - The subtlety of the themes might make them less accessible to casual listeners. **Influence** "Nixon" has had a lasting impact on the alternative country and indie rock genres. Its blend of orchestral arrangements with traditional country elements has influenced numerous artists and bands. The album is often cited as a benchmark for its innovative approach to genre-blending and its sophisticated production. *Pros:* - Significant influence on subsequent alternative country and indie rock music. - Recognition as a groundbreaking album in its genre. *Cons:* - Its distinct style may overshadow other works within Lambchop’s discography for new listeners. **Track-by-Track Analysis** 1. **The Old Gold Shoe** - **Lyrics:** Reflective and introspective, exploring themes of routine and change. - **Music:** Orchestral arrangement with strings and horns, creating a rich soundscape. - **Production:** Layered and polished, highlighting each instrument. 2. **Grumpus** - **Lyrics:** Abstract and surreal, with a focus on personal dissatisfaction. - **Music:** Jazzy influences with a prominent bassline and intricate guitar work. - **Production:** Clean and balanced, allowing the complexity of the arrangement to shine. 3. **You Masculine You** - **Lyrics:** Gender roles and personal identity are examined with subtlety. - **Music:** Slow, soulful groove with a prominent piano melody. - **Production:** Warm and inviting, with a focus on the vocals and piano. 4. **Up With People** - **Lyrics:** Uplifting and hopeful, possibly alluding to collective action. - **Music:** Soulful and upbeat, featuring a gospel choir. - **Production:** Vibrant and dynamic, capturing the energy of the choir. 5. **Nashville Parent** - **Lyrics:** Intimate and personal, exploring familial relationships. - **Music:** Melancholic and subdued, with gentle acoustic guitar and strings. - **Production:** Minimalist and delicate, emphasizing the emotional weight of the lyrics. 6. **What Else Could It Be?** - **Lyrics:** Ambiguous and introspective, questioning purpose and meaning. - **Music:** Slow tempo with a focus on melody and atmosphere. - **Production:** Spacious and echoing, creating a contemplative mood. 7. **The Distance From Her To There** - **Lyrics:** Descriptive and narrative, focusing on separation and longing. - **Music:** Upbeat rhythm with a prominent bass and lively horn section. - **Production:** Crisp and clear, with each instrument well-defined in the mix. 8. **The Book I Haven't Read** - **Lyrics:** Intellectual and reflective, dealing with themes of knowledge and regret. - **Music:** Slow and soulful, with a lush arrangement of strings and piano. - **Production:** Rich and immersive, enhancing the emotive quality of the track. 9. **The Petrified Florist** - **Lyrics:** Abstract and poetic, with a focus on decay and beauty. - **Music:** Minimalist arrangement with delicate guitar and subtle percussion. - **Production:** Sparse and airy, allowing the lyrics to take center stage. 10. **The Butcher Boy** - **Lyrics:** Traditional folk narrative, dealing with themes of love and loss. - **Music:** Simple acoustic arrangement, staying true to its folk roots. - **Production:** Clean and unembellished, emphasizing the storytelling aspect. **Overall Pros and Cons** *Pros:* - **Lyrics:** Deeply poetic and rich in imagery, offering layers of meaning. - **Music:** Innovative blend of genres with sophisticated arrangements. - **Production:** High-quality and meticulous, enhancing the listening experience. - **Themes:** Thoughtful exploration of universal and personal themes. - **Influence:** Significant impact on alternative country and indie rock genres. *Cons:* - **Lyrics:** May be too abstract for listeners seeking straightforward narratives. - **Music:** Some tracks may feel overproduced to those preferring a raw sound. - **Production:** The polished nature might detract from the organic feel. - **Themes:** Subtlety in themes might make them less accessible. - **Influence:** Its distinct style could overshadow other works by Lambchop for new listeners. **Conclusion** "Nixon" by Lambchop is a landmark album that continues to resonate within the alternative country and indie rock scenes. Its blend of intricate musical arrangements, introspective lyrics, and high production values make it a compelling listen. While its abstract nature and polished production might not appeal to everyone, the album's influence and artistic achievements are undeniable. Lambchop’s ability to weave complex emotions and everyday experiences into their music ensures that "Nixon" remains a timeless and impactful record.

Favourite song - You masculine you

The greatest delivered lyric of all time. "The kids out in the street Take their toys and break them And look at them, then walk away"

Saved the entire album to my library after only hearing to the halfway mark of the first song. I usually need to listen through multiple times. I’m highly selective of what makes it in there. If asking why..I have no answer for that. The feeling induced by Nixon by Lambchop is ineffable. Which is how art should be I guess. One of my faults is the need to explain everything too much. For a person with many words this album left me speechless.

very soothing and relaxing. Voice is great, instruments blends really well together

unexpected

Fantastic. Turned me on to the band as a whole.

This is an incredible album, and I can't believe I had never heard of this band before. They have a unique sound that sometimes borders on orchestral, and I like the stream-of-consciousness lyrics in the songs. Just an all-around good, groovy sound to them. Normally I list tracks I like off these albums but I'm just going to say all of them for this one.

Beautiful music. Very unique

22nd September 2021 Listened on my phone on the way out to an early birthday dinner with jen at an incredible Italian restaurant. I had heard of lambchop through Andy but hadn't properly listen to them and assumed they were super heavy but I didn't think they'd be this relaxing indie mellow band. Loved it.

My favourite ‘chop

Never heard this before. Never heard of them, actually. I don’t know if I love or hate this album. At some points it felt hollow. Like it was holding back. At some other points it felt magical and full. I don’t know.

This album was both soothing and interesting. I really liked it.

such a unique album. an indie album with a vibe much older and distinct. Soft, easy, melodic but not by the means of other conventional groups. a curious experience and an album that i think deserves the spot here. If i had to say anything bad, maybe, it feels really diferent to really have a point of context and comparison and i don't really know what to compare it to

Man, I forgot all about this band. I used to put on Aw, C’mon for a relaxing evening. Seriously underrated band. Their listen counts on Spotify make me sad. Definitely bring them back into rotation.

Liked this one

I ended up quite liking this album, an elegant mix of country, alternative rock, post rock and even some jazzy elements. All things I like. The first half was definitely stronger with the opener ‘The Old Gold Shoe’ setting the tone, followed by the excellent ‘Grumpus’. The second half was weaker overall but the last two tracks ensure the album finishes strongly.

this one was unexpected -- great listen for those who know

A pleasant surprise. Rock blended with orchestral work and clever lyrics. Totally up my alley!

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this chill album. It’s different for sure. Mellow and kinda sad.

Very chill and nicely arranged, not the most active listen but still had a nice warm feeling attached to it

Тёплый ламповый барочный кантри-поп.

Unassuming on the surface, but there is a lot going on underneath. The arrangements feel carefully placed rather than showy, and the whole thing unfolds at its own pace. It can feel too restrained if you want something more immediate, yet that same restraint is what gives it depth over time.

Sounds just like The Divine Comedy Album cover is also good

It's really nice. Sometimes a little too nice. I think I would need to listen to it more. But there are some really lush arrangements going on here. And the vibe swings around a bit. I'm feeling generous, so it's a 3.5 rounded up.

I love atmospheric rock music!! RAaAa I got sick so I couldn’t listen to this on time :-: Rating: 3.5/5 GEMV (10-11.04.2026)

Très smooth, dreamy, ça me relaxe. J'aime! 5*

good montage music

This album patted me on the head and handed me a cup of soup, but it was a little snoozy.... like me after the soup

I thought music was really good on this and it got less boring as it went along. Wish it had an instrumental version. Very interesting and not something I usually like.

This was super chill. Had a bit of a quiet Pink Floyd vibe

had not been familiar - enjoyed.

Really enjoyable listen, really chilled, kept me playing attention.

Esse tipo de musica indie é um ponto fraco para mim. Talvez porque eu goste de Arcade Fire mais do que seria saudável para minha geração. O falsetto do vocalista é um pouco estranho, mas não me incomoda.

Pretty good alt country/ “countrypolitan”/ hipster easy listening… if too prolific. I wish Kurt Wagner put together a (one stop shopping) greatest hits, like Robert Pollard did with “Human Amusements…”

ok randomly loved???? grumpus slapped

Jeg ved ikke hvad jeg forventede men det var meget fedt!

Nogen må gerne fortælle Ryan Adams at det er sådan her man laver lækker country!

Dam another country, I loved the last one, and I hope this won't disappoint either. Never heard of this artist tho, album cover looks cool enough, I saw the children seconds later tho, cuz the name is big asf. No expectations, but I'm not discouraged either. First song, soothing one already. It isn't so bad, also it's a long song, so ig it will progress(?). It didn't change at all, however, I do like his voice and overall style, little jazz here and there. Not something extraordinary, but something I don't dislike either. Second song, already a good start, same style too, I wonder if it'll be overly upbeat any sooner in other songs. Goood, I do wish it became a bit progressive over the time, but I have to suffice with this ig. There was also a slight woman voice somewhere. Third song, almost thought it was french when he started singing. Different way of singing, and probably the least upbeat for now. 4th song, mmm it's getting a bit louder with each second, fun. Oooh it got better. Love some lyrical deliveries here, actually he does that quite good in songs. 5th song, nothing drastically different, but I did like the overall vibe anyway. Every song has that one unique beat injected into it that makes it worthy, plus violins are a good plus. 6th song, different voice here too. I think this album would be better if it didn't overstay its welcome, like there's 4 more songs to go and I bet none of this is gonna change, it is good, but the art is lost when it's repeated for so many times. Still not bad tho. Heard a little instruments kicking, finally something dramatic. 7th song, mm mm, showest of all. He does talk in this one in a kind of a sassy way tho, and then starts squeaking. 8th song, probably the best start of the song in this album, love them violins. I would looove if he didn't tone it down and went beast with the instruments, but we're talking about Lambchop here. Went on in a less interesting way I'm afraid. 9th song, thee best song on the album. It really lives up to its name. It's a bit eerie, has rock elements and some random sounds that amplify the effect, I wish it was like this all the time. 10th song, WHERE WAS THIS ENERGY BEFORE? God dam. This was good, it went where I wanted it to go, and continued the legacy of the last song. Now I'm interested in his other songs. I started thinking that it was 4 then 3 and the last 2 songs really guaranteed the 4 starness of it all. It started well, not more not less, then went and gave me "the less", which was disappointing, but at last it was in "the more" side so it caught my eye again. I just want to think that his other albums have more of what happened at last.

Calm background music

It is very nice if you want to enjoy a chill time!

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/lambchop/nixon/ Lambchop is one of those band I’ve never really listened to, even though they should be right up my alley. And indeed, this is nice!

A beautiful lush record that will surprise you as it is filled with gorgeous instrumentation- a mix of horns and laid back soul with string arrangements giving way to pop and Americana all anchored by Kurt Wagner’s solid baritone vocals. This record is a vibe. You have to be willing to take the mellow church soul journey accepting that these beautiful sounds don’t quite fit with what is going on lyrically. As every album in Lambchop’s discography explores a different point in a musical spectrum seemingly disconnected from the albums that preceded or those that follow, Nixon in my mind sits somewhere at the midpoint of that journey. The songs flow into each other and the 60’s soul which anchors the entire record keeps you engaged even if lyrically you are going WTF? Spend a little time with Nashville Parent and then ask yourself what did I just listen too? What Else Could It Be sung in falsetto could be a 5th Dimension outtake. It is a band firing on all cylinders and you can imagine a smokey night club with the audience gently dancing to the house band. Kurt’s vocals are stunning and the mix is perfect as is the guitar tone. I have no real notes on this. It’s not a traditional indie rock album. It really is its own thing. I also know I needed to grow into this record. I turned 40 when this came out. I had 3 kids and a wife. I still wasn’t ready. It’s 26 years later, I’m about to retire and I’m finally ready. I’ll put the record on the hifi, turn down the lights, and dance with my sweetie. Pick a track, any track, they all could work. I have a couple of favorites but they are mine. You pick yours. It will all be fine. 4/5

Heel mooi rustig album, springt er niet echt uit ofzo maar is misschien daarom juist zo goed.

This is the musical equivalent of a slow, comfortable hug. I really dig the general vibe, even if the pacing gets a bit slow at times. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - The Old Gold Shoe - Grumpus - Up with People - The Butcher Boy

This is one of those albums I enjoyed, but it didn’t leave me with a lot to say. It’s definitely chamber pop with a country rock edge, and in some ways it reminds me of Bill Callahan, just filtered through a more orchestrated, chamber pop lens. It’s pleasant and well crafted, but not something that left a strong lasting impression on me.

It's not for everybody, but I enjoy it. If you're a slow person like me, or maybe if it's late at night right now, perhaps you will, too.

Something about this album hit me right where I wanted it to. Probably rating it higher than I normally would as a result, but ce la vie

it's saying howdy but in a jazzy and indie way ifkwim

I could do without the tiny tim sounding vocals, but the rear I really liked. Great instrumentation and vibe all around.

I liked it! Nice easy listening on a cold Monday morning

Alt rock with steel guitar from the year 2000? Requires more exploration. 4.25 stars.

never heard of this band, but I enjoyed it. Very chill, good beat.

Cute :3 Reminds me of Kacey Musgraves

Lovely discovery. Distance from Her to There is exceptional.

Pomaly ale fajn, asi bych si to poslech mimo pivoteku

Decent, nice rhythms

Familiar and Foreign at the same time 4/5

Great album

Quite a nice album that makes a change from what I usually listen to and I guess what would generally be considered mainstream music. Has a weird blend of a few sounds that I can't quite place but seem to for the most part fit quire nicely together. Don't think I'll be rushing back to it as it's not quite my daily listening vibe but will definitely check it out again.

I wasnt familiar with this and was intrigued. A background listen didnt yield much so i switched to headphones. At this level it really strated to shine. The gentle vocal, indie sensibilities, warm brass and beautiful strings all combine for a wonderful album.

76/100. Strong alt-country with some good and interesting writing. It’s an album that moves at its own pace. Definitely one of the more unique takes on the genre.

I've never heard of Chamber Pop before, but I think I love it. This is so chill. I think it would be 5 stars if not for some of the twangy country vibes that I'm not a huge fan of. 4/5

Atmospheric and lively, singing is too calm for the rest, overall enjoyable.

Surprisingly good

8 I like it!! loved the song grumpus already and now I know the rest of the album. What a dream. What a time to be alive

Interesting artist. His voice reminds me of Bob Dorough.

This album kept feeling like it was going to turn into something I really enjoyed, but it never quite got there. I still liked it and would like to listen to some more of Lambchop's music as I've never really heard of him before.

Lambchop is not a crook; more pleasant than Milhouse and more trustworthy than Pat.

Ahh that voice, it takes me back to a time I don’t really remember.

I don’t know why, but I was under the impression going in that this would be a heavy metal album. As much as I like metal, this was a pleasant surprise. Very vibey. Smooth and calm like how I like it. I’ll revisit this one day.

Weird and wonderful, almost as expected. I'm not sure I hear much of "country" everyone talks about.

Um sonzinho bem legal.

Never heard anything quite like it. It’s a stew of pop, soul, country, R&B and electronica, among others. Took a few tracks but man did this album grow on me. It’s weird and unpredictable, and fun to listen to. How refreshing to hear music that’s truly different.

This took a few listens, but it grew and grew with each one. Some beautiful melodies and orchestration - unique without being self consciously 'weird' - and some glorious lyrics. Somewhere between the Walker Brothers and The Smiths. A high 4, only missing a 5 because I found his weak falsetto a bit off putting on several songs.

Not as good as "Is a woman " but still pretty decent.

It is the musical equivalent of Mr. Snuffleupagus; a bit silly, lumbering at times, and is part of a fun place. Enjoyable tunes but nothing that stands out over the top.

Speechless. I usually don’t like slow songs too much, but all of these are fucking masterpieces. Made me feel like I’m on some cute lovey dovey date. It healed something in me. Something still keeps me from giving it 5 stars, but it’s very close to it.

What a strange album. I loved most of it and hated like two songs. Maybe one of my most confused ratings to date.

How would we categorise this? Dream-Folk? In any case it’s not like anything I’ve heard before. Somewhere between Sufjan Stevens and NMH.

very chill.

Had no idea these guys were this old lol I found them after their album in 2022 and really like that album. This one was good too. Love the chamber pop and artsy feel to it

beautiful album. perfect mix of folk-leaning country and lush orchestral sections. i might end up deciding it's a 5/5 later, but for now, it's a 4/5.

pretty good rock/weird fusion, never heard of these guys

That's a great album, really driving it, sounding like Willie Nelson being laser-focused and supported by different bands all moulded into one. Little nitpicks would be that some parts are a bit off with the voice and singing.

This is an album to really slow down and settle into. It's such an interesting mix of Americana-- the polished string arrangements of the 50s, clean and twangy tremolo-ed guitars, clapping as percussion like something out of the Beach Boys, soul guitar and falsetto. There's a lot of vintage influence here, but the vocals lend an indie modernity, and are often "bad" in the sense that limits of his voice feel pushed and it gives unpolished honesty to counterbalance the instrumentation (I often found the crackling falsetto grating and distracting). It sits somewhere around Bill Callahan or Will Oldham or Wilco or Sufjan Stevens or Lana Del Rey. I don't know. I've heard such good things about Lambchop and I wish I'd listened to this about 10 years ago, I would've eaten it up. My tastes have changed a bit, and this isn't so much my style anymore. But I still expect to return to it when that mood strikes.

Very sonically interesting in a subtle way, definitely warrants more than one listen. Had only heard individual songs by Lambchop and liked them, so great to listen through an album. Pretty cool stuff, hooked by the various instruments and strange directions the songs would take that I barely could focus on any lyrics, but the ones I caught were weird and intriguing

My first experience with Lambchop. Not usually a fan of country music at all, but this one was different, and I found myself dancing along to some of the songs.

Pretty cool album, most of the songs are not super catchy but they are intricate--first class songwriting. I think I need more time with this one, but on first listen it's a 3.5 for me. Bumping as it's probably a grower.

lowk was really really tired when listening to this, but what i heard sounded pretty damn good im negl

Enjoyable album

Strong 6 to LIGHT 7. Lush strings reminiscent of Richard Hawley's Cole's Corner, but a bit too repetitive.

I liked this a lot. Vague memories of Lambchop but not of anything in particular. 4 stars for gentle vibe.

Pretty good! So funny that the Wiki states that despite being an American album it was a smash hit in the UK and then a lightbulb went on in my brain as to why this album made the list. Sort of Shinsy. I dig it

What a Delight, such easy listening. Will definitely be revisiting. 4 Stars.

Shockingly timeless. You could have told me this just released and I would have believed you.

this was an interesting album. I enjoyed it, and it was not what I was expecting either. No single song stood out to a point where I said, I have to have this, but lots of songs stuck out where i went to go and see what the song was. It has prompted me to want to listen to a few more of their albums. Petrified Florist was great. 3.5 stars

the singing is pretty difficult to listen to at times but the instrumental was tasty

Not sure how this was never on my radar. These are really moody, languid songs. It’s like listening to a set of short stories.

Was really disinterested at first. The vocals sounded a bit cheesy. The lyrics can be just as bad. But once I got through The Old Gold Shoe, damn, this album kind of takes off into a neat, creative space. Love the omnipresent horns and fun textures (lots of strings), straight ahead drumming with bluesy guitar lines (so much Trem on the guitar tracks). The vocals get screechy and creative on You Masculine You (ironic title I guess?) Up with People was my favorite track. Idk what to really say about it. Its very simple, but yet sounds very distinct. What else could it be was also super pleasant in a 70s R&B way. This wouldve been ideal for a Friday album… shame. Ill be listening to it again this weekend. 3.5 stars and rounding up

Predict I may be going against the grain a bit on this one. Lamb Chop feels like we stayed in the same universe as Nick Cave's poetry-driven orchestral rock, but with a way better outlook on life. I love how hard to pin down this sound is - felt like I was on my toes the entire time. It's country, it's jazz, it's soul, it's lounge music. It's kind of folksy but sophisticated at times, serious but a little goofy too. It's the kind of range that puts Wilco in my top bands list (that's as far as I'll go with that comparison, this doesn't come close to Tweedy lyrically). Up with People and The Book I Haven't Read stand out. I was super curious to see how this project translates to the stage - tight, high energy 14 piece band - has a bit of that bar band vibe of Nathaniel Rateliff or The Hold Steady. Also Wagner is a pretty solid guitarist from what I watched of his Tiny Desk.

The Distance From Her to There is a stunning song. This is a difficult album to rate - it really jumps around in tone and quality; starts off rather naff, but does improve as time goes on. I think this music is my thing, but only just. Indie Rock with aspirations. I think Editors refined a lot of this kind of sound. The Petrified Florist is also good. I'll be generous - if this was on Spotify, I'd have a few listens of The Distance From Here to There under my belt already.

Gotta say… i dug this. Not all the way something is missing but i like it

Knew up with people

Interesting sound. Listened to a few tracks but not the whole album. Will come back later to finish

Not what I expected. Very soothing and pleasant. Muzak vibes. The lyrics are... interesting. 4/5

Interesting and chill.

Never heard it before, nice one to go running at night! Good solid, nice voice!

This drags a little at times, but I really dig their vibe. I'm getting a more chill version of Pulp from them (and it's no secret I'm now a big Pulp fan), even though they're not British. Interesting that they're American, but they were more popular in the UK than the US. Maybe the Brits got the Pulp vibe from them too. Anyway, love the creative and introspective lyrics, love his voice, the horns are really great, and this is just a comforting and warm kind of album to wrap up in. It did end on a rather depressing note, although I really liked that song in general. Also, this is album 365 for our group! Made it a whole year already, it's been quite a ride!

A nice album.

Sólido sólido álbum, sin hitazos pero disfrutable del minuto 1 al final. Me guardo algunas joyitas

This took me back in a major way. I've no memory of really knowing this album, or very much about Lambchop, except this general sense that they were a good thing. Anyway, this was great. Really sad and mellow, but not lightweight or boring at all. The quality of vocals was very striking.

I really liked the chilled country tinge. Some interesting phrasing of vocals. Definitely want to listen to more by them. Reminded me of Giant Sand who I think we had quite early on, or Big Thief

Interesting new listen

This is a really cool album. Much like their 1998 album, What Another Man Spills, Lambchop blends immaculately played old school country with orchestrated soul, and adds an element of weirdness over the whole affair. It's not perfect -- the last two songs are an odd fit for the rest of the album -- but there's a lot of standouts here -- "You Masculine You", "Grumpus", "Up With People", and "The Book I Haven't Read". 4.5 stars.

Of the albums and artists I have been introduced to throughout this project so far, this is the one I am most embarrassed for having not known.

I went in blind, and was plesantly surprised. Would write more, but time is fleeting. 4/5

long and smooth, one of the times where i feel like my total lack of remembering anything specific that Happened on an album might have been part of the specific design. the smoothness makes u swirl around like a marble in a perpetual motion machine...more hypnotizing than anything. a couple tone shifts like the last couple of tracks do stand out, melodies are often beautiful, and i think more than anything my main takeaway is kurt wagner's voice which perfectly balances Commanding Presence with utter gentleness. also perfect fall music obviously but every season looks the same in the texas suburbs lol. kinda rly loved this one tbh

Very Good! Very chill, and minimalist, but I like that a lot. It does what it means to do, and I thoroughly enjoy it. My Top 3: 3. Grumpus 2. Up With People 1. The Book I Haven't Read

Easy listen. Not bad.

Very mellow. Many good songs here.

Surprised by this one... mellow rock... nice.

"Nixon" is the fifth studio album by American rock band Lambchop. Their musical style is properly described as merging chamber pop, countrypolitan, R&B and "sweet" soul. The album was produced by bandmembers Kurt Wagner (vocals, guitar, synths, arrangements) and guitarist Mark Nevers. There are actually 13 people listed as bandmembers. The title "Nixon" refers to Richard Nixon as Wagner said the album's content was tragicomic. The album had highly positive reviews and, commercially, was their breakthrough in the UK reaching #60 on the charts. "The Old Gold Shoe" opens the album. People noise, a slow bass and guitar and Wagner's deep baritone voice. Strings are added. Nice arrangments. Wagner said this was based on his friend asking for a new pair of gold slippers and responding to the friend with the stereo talking to him. That's original. The guitar and beat give "Grumpus" a R&B feel. The synth and horns add some soul. The soulfulness meter is raised a bit as Wagner goes falsetto. People walk around in a fog and they need to wake up. Strings are moved to the forefront in "You Masculine You." A slashing guitar. Wagner's falsetto is all the way through. This sounds like early 70's soul. The song builds with the vocals and horns. Beautiful! Repeating, swirling sounds begin the first and only single "Up with the People." Electric guitars builds the pace. Handclaps and vocals are added. There's background female singers. There's a horn solo. I read this was about a traveling brigade of performers teaching family values. I've read several books with with similar traveling caravans. The album ends dark with "The Butcher Boy." Faster pace. More of a rock beat. Edgy guitar and horns. The song ends with a girl hanging herself and a suicide note. Didn't see this coming. There's a nice and beautiful sound to this album. Great arrangements of all the instruments and vocals. It successfully does mix baroque, soul, R&B and pop/rock. I didn't mind Wagner going falsetto at times to squeeze in some more soul to the music. I also didn't hear much country. With the baroque/chamber pop tilt, I can see why it was much bigger in the UK and pretty much non-existent in the US. This a very decent album especially if you're a chamber pop fan.

What a pleasure to get served up a truly underappreciated band, one that resolutely did its own thing and did it quite well indeed. Ohio and How I Quit Smoking would be worth additions to this list. Understated is the new hot and quiet is the new loud.

Lambchop have better albums but still decent. Just knew the general 1001 nerd would rate this lowly.

I took a look at the reviews on here first, and didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a really thought-provoking record with some great instrumentation and production. Kinda reminds me of Sufjan Stevens in places. Favourite tracks: The Old Gold Shoe, You Masculine You, Nashville Parent, The Distance from Her to There, Petrified Florist.

Pretty cool!

af hverju hef ég ekki hlustað á þetta áður. skemmtilegt kántrí drauma popp. 4,5.

Really really like the smooth flowy guitar on this whole album. The singer has such a mellow yet outstanding voice which pairs very nicely with the instruments. The parts where he sings with his really high voice are a little weird, but the rest of the album is pretty fantastic. I don't really know what genre this is it sounds like a combination of many different ones, but whatever it is really does it for me. The random trumpet that is thrown in every so often gave me the chills. The album definitely lost some steam towards the end but overall this was still a very strong and unexpected 4.

Really liked the atmospheric vibes of this album

Redelijk goed album. Nooit van gehoord, maar toch wel een mooie 3.4 waard.

Very pretty Need to listen more but i cannot give this only 1 point more than def leppard

A good album, not an artist I'd hear before. I liked Petrified Florist and Butcher Boy.

A good, fluffy, genre-spanning album. No peaks. All plateau

Very pretty arrangements and calming lyrics. While it isn't an album that holds your attention, it was a lovely listen.

Favorite Track: Up With People You Masculine You

This was a very enjoyable listen. A weird combination of country , orchestral and I am not sure what else. Vocally I picked up on a Lou Reed vibe , especially on the opening track. Overall the album was well produced with really good arrangements throughout. I could describe it as enjoyable monotony but that's being a bit unfair, it's worth a listen .

Today I discovered a "new" band that I really like! I like how this album meanders, almost aimlessly, from beginning to end. solid 3.5

Kinda reminds me of Father John Misty in vibe, so naturally I enjoy it.

Such a unique sound

Hey, I like this.

Really digging this! Never listened to Lambchop, but it reminds me of Bill Callahan and some of Jim O'Rourke's more mainstream stuff.

This is a band whose name has come up in conversations before but I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to their music. Singer Kurt Warner’s vocals are impressive and all over the place dynamically. Im a fan of his quickly lyrics too. The orchestral arrangements are beautiful and really well thought out. Nothing on this album seems unnecessarily placed just for the sake of having layers, it all has a musical purpose. The production, engineering and mixing are all top notch on this album. I’m excited to explore Lambchop’s weird world some more with future listens.

I like these upbeat depression tunes, they sound sweet but leave me feeling more sad than I was before. I am drawn to music like that.

Interesting, never heard of but kinda liked

After hearing Nixon, all i can say is \"Man, this album is so chill\". The songs mostly did follow the same format but that format was really nice to hear. That also made the songs with more of a drive (Grumpus and The Butcher Boy being clear examples of this) really stick out more and made them feel more memorable. My only real complaint with this album is the song Up With People really felt underproduced but other than that, i feel this was a great album that's definitely worth a listen. Best Song: The Butcher Boy Worst Song: Up With People

Surprisingly good. I sometimes feel like I am hearing Pink Floyd one ment, and Jamiraquoi the next. I would rarely listen to either of those two, but is somehow works here.

Notable tracks: Basically all of it

first listen this is so interesting and artistic and warrants another listen

I wasn’t too sure what to expect from Nixon, as the only Lambchop album I’d previously heard was the more abstract and electronic This from nearly two decades later (which I had quite enjoyed, but not revisited since that first listen in 2019). Nixon on the other hand was more conventional - I guess. It’s a country/art-pop album that somehow also dabbles in Philly soul; its influences are all over the place and its songs regularly exceed five minutes but fill the time really nicely so they don’t seem gratuitous. Some grating falsetto aside, it’s a really nice listen and I’ll definitely be listening to what else Lambchop has to offer

I liked this a lot - grew on me with every listen. Definitely one to spend more time with in the future. Simple, great songs, although I prefer when he's not singing in falsetto.

Merge is really reliable for creative gems. Love that this gets lumped in as alt country, though the album is more 70s AM with R&B on it, but there is slide guitar a couple times. I'd describe this album more like Beck's Deborah played straight, but it's pretty unclassifiable and I can see how Lambchop rewards repeat listening. Up with the People and Grumpus are bigger hits if you can say that on the album and deservedly so. Maybe me sample more of his discography based on the interest this perked and he's definitely a creative savant. Works well that he shares the label with Torres whom I prefer to about anything else lately.

A little groovy. Had some moments that reminded me of an Elvis Costello type voice? Nice little listen.

I was not sure what to expect going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised! It had a gentle sound but the titles and lyrics seemed just a tad unhinged, which was a fascinating combo. Not sure if I will return to this artist on my own, but it was an interesting and pleasant listen.

really nice RECORD!!!!!!!!!!

new to me. I like it!

Pretty relaxing

Strange album. It's like very cool elevator muzak. I'm curious what their other albums sound like.

Enjoyable, pleasant and interesting.

interesting, chill

Interesting - very mellow. Liked it...

Pretty groovy, 4 stars

Kinda lost some steam at the end, which was interesting because it was musically more exciting. I liked the soothing feel of the record in general and found it to be a good combination of genres that I may not necessarily enjoy all the time.

A lot of this album is just incredibly beautiful, both in terms of the music, and the lyrics. Up The People and The Book I Haven’t Read are particular highlights, exhibiting a gorgeous affinity for lush, sweet arrangement and orchestration. It’s the sort of album I’d feel happy putting on in the background while I just vibed. I can’t stand the sound of the guy’s falsetto though, fuck that

An example of why this exercise is so valuable. A release of my era but I’d never heard. Part Ween, part symphony, part alt and prog. It’s impossible to define and across the sound spectrum. What a gift.

The easy grooves, luscious and accentuating strings, the faux falsetto, beds of baritone sax, punctuating brass, the wandering and evocative guitars – many factors conspire to make this a retrogressive delight. Not sure any band ever did "quiet is the new loud" more efficaciously. And man were they strong live, especially in their large format; a 2002 or '03 show at the Prospect Park Bandshell is one of the best shows one ever saw. There's a rich and lovely archness here, the tension between the quotidian lyrics (e.g., drinking neighbors, drinking and salad dressing) and oft dramatic and seeming seriousness of style and tone. It's an approachable sort of irony. Only last few cuts leave one a bit cold. Kudos to editors for including this totally underrated classic. This isn't their best – Ohio would be one's choice – though it's excelelnt overall and adding another Lambchop record (much less the two or three other worthy choices) would've been too much to ask, clearly.

It was fine

This one’s not too bad. While it feels a bit repetitive and samey throughout, it brings nice vibes, vocals, instruments, and lyricism to the table. The higher pitched vocals may be a bit much, but this one’s chill. A good album for the morning. :)

Weird and wonderful!

A bit like an American Divine Comedy

A great voice and nice relaxing music. Perfect for background.

I really was impressed by how non conformist this album was. Each track had it's own lane but remained a realm of thoughtful and subtly inspiring music. Tho I'm not super in love with the dude's voice, I enjoyed the multitude of instrumentation and seemingly unlimited number of artists that performed on this. Very happy to have been introduced to Lambchop.

I’d remembered this album as a warmly gorgeous 5⭐️ album And whilst it was very good - great in a few places - it seemed somehow less than I’d remembered. A solid 4 rather than the slam dunk 5 I’d hoped for

Didn't know what sound to expect when I hit play, but I was overall surprised by this. Lambchop has a knack for beautiful, yet haunting, simple, yet catchy melodies. Love the Neil Young-esque vocals. Definitely going to check out more of their catalogue.

Really interesting listen. I wasn't familiar with it. and will likely add to my collection

Pretty!

Cool tones, had trouble making out the lyrics but I think that they would be profound.

Nice laid-back music that was completely new to me.

This is a lovely album. It’s not completely exciting or very commercial, so I can understand why I’ve never heard of it. The combination of genres really gives it a beautiful melancholy and irresistible nature. It’s a great album that I enjoyed listening to and will probably listen to again. 4/5

Un excelente album de rock alternativo con tintes de Americana y country, sin dejar de lado la experimentación, la composición afilada y un sonido sumamente agradable. Una adición que se agradece a la lista ya que previamente no conocía Lambchop.

This album is a fantastic combination of alt-country, chamber pop, and soul. The instrumentation varies from lush strings to more traditional country instrumentation creating a full and well rounded sound. The use of voices on this album reminds me almost of The Beach Boys with a more laid back vibe. The lyrics content is dark and brooding further adding to the feel of the album.

This was a surprise to me! I had no idea what to expect and felt I recognised some songs. Kind of Elton John and Pink Floyd at times. I do enjoy grandeur in music.

I'm so glad to see Lambchop on this list. Its hard to describe his style as its a gentle mix of indie, alt-pop and alt-country, they most remind me of Destroyer with their easy listening vocals blended to alt melodies. Both bands are very listenable, yet not quite mainstream which is why I find them intruiging. This album has two of my favourite Lambchop singles - Up with people and Grumpus and because there aren't any other Lambchop albums on this list it gets a somewhat generous 4 from me.

Wouldn't regularly rotate, but it's good for ambient background music.

Wasn't sure what to expect but what a nice surprise. Somehow this album had passed me by and most of my exposure to Lambchop prior to this was a remix on a chillout album. I quite enjoyed Grumpus, Up with People, and The Book I Havent Read.

A curious one, this one - kinda loungey alt-country. I enjoyed it, but suspect I'd like it even more if I were in just the right mood, though what mood that would have to be I can't say! Fave tracks - "Up With People" for the upbeatness, "The Petrified Florest" for atmosphere...

With the strings, falsetto, and smoothness, this sounds like a modern soul album. Sparse but biting lyrics and unique melodies and instrumentation.

A bit too inconsistent to be in the same league as What Another Man Spills or Is A Woman, but still a very good Lambchop album of course, with some of their best songs: You Masculine You, Up with People, The Book I Haven't Read, The Petrified Forest. Score: 8/10

Very pleasant sounding album. Some songs sound a bit too similar to keep me fully engaged the entire time, but overall this is pretty good.

Seriously blown away by this alt-country, alt-rock offering. Easy and breezy like a Sunday morning in one corner; evocative and sinister like a 2am Saturday alleyway in another. I listened to the first 3 tracks on repeat after listening to the whole thing. Knew nothing about this group but was NOT surprised to find their Nashville roots given the rambling guitar sound. Solid underground offering. More, please.

This had a lovely sound.

Very steady, satisfying indie album. A few familiar tracks, a nice consistent ryhthm. Interesting enough but not era defining or anything. Simple, understated, hits the right spots without overexerting.

This was cool and inventive and interesting

Probably my favorite of Lambchop's many records. Sweeping, cinematic country.

This was a truly lovely record to listen to. Beautiful, wistful and melodic indie music. I adored it.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: The old gold shoe, Up with people

Good, I enjoyed it a lot. The instrumentation was really nice.

I had never heard of Lambchop, and don't know what I expected from this album. And, I won't lie, I wasn't laser-focused on the album for the entire running time. But what I heard, I liked a lot more than I expected to. Alt-country with chamber pop influences. Very well-written melodies. An overall "throwback" sound. I will definitely be giving this one another listen.

Cette voix, ces orchestrations... Peu de chansons vraiment marquantes, mais un ensemble très harmonieux, enveloppant. Et beau.

I’d never heard of Lambchop before today so didn’t have any preconceptions. I’m a vegetarian though so if manes sense that I hadn’t consumed their music before. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: You Masculine You, Up With People This was a perfect album to listen to on a Sunday morning. It was nice relaxing music and helped me to recover from a hangover. Musically, Lambchop remind me a little if Eels which is a big positive for me. The singing was very unique at times, going from a gritty tenor into sudden falsetto. It can be a little jarring at first, but after a couple of songs I’d fallen quite in love with his voice. This was a very good find, and I’m happy to have discovered it, even if I was 23 years too late.

Another great find. I am excited to look into more Lambchop

Discoveries like this are the reason I am trying to work my way through the 1000 list...expose myself to different and unknown music for myself that is interesting. I wouldn't say I love this album but it was different, complicated and fascinating. Realllly liked the Petrified Forest track.

Lots to love about this album but the jury is still out on his vocals.

Cool folky rock album, I'm surprised I haven't heard it before. Kinda like a cross between country wilco and a less experimental radiohead. I'm not surprised that Up with People is the band's biggest song on streaming services by a long shot. It's super anthemic and fun, but definitely not my favorite song (that would probably be track 1). I have a feeling this band is probably popular with the older, mid thirties-ish, ex-blog-hipster crowd, so it's cool it was put in front of me off of this list.

Bloody loved this and will explore the band more. Delicate chamber pop rock with invention. Great stuff.

Nice and relaxing

I really like this

Favourite song: Nashville Parent

What a pleasant surprise! Judging by the band name and the track titles, I thought these would be gag songs. Not adult, contemporary pop rock with a twinge of country, a bit of R&B and some moody atmospheres - à la Matchbox 20 or Vertical Horizon in their senior years and in a parallel universe. Makes for superb easy listening on a Sunday morning, although it gets a bit weird at the end. Favorite tracks are Grumpus & You Masculine You.

This was a beautiful sounding album, the arrangement was gorgeous but the vocals on some tracks lets it down a but

Of course I love this. It's so rich and tasty. Super soulful, full of flavour. No idea what Kurt Wagner's on about, bit that just adds to the mystery.

Cool stuff

Liked it

Alternative countrychamber pop

A special and unforgettable voice

Can't believe I've never heard of Lambchop. This album is lush and layered and an aural feast

Nice folk smooth

very good. Quirky. I enjoyed it a lot!

Very chill, and nice voice, will listen to it some more

There was something gripping about this record. I liked the slow pace of the music & rich arrangements. Highlight: Butcher Boy

Hadn't heard this in over 20 years. I find myself rather better disposed towards it now somehow. "Grumpus" and "Up With People" are still my favourite tracks from it, but now we can also add "The Petrified Forest" which I'd entirely forgotten (how *could* I have forgotten that wild flanging?). Really not a fan of Kurt's falsetto, though...

Not what I was expecting from a band called lambchop but it was solid chill music

Interesting, would watch at a festival

Wagner's voice is like salted caramel chocolate. It shouldn't work but it does. Likewise, Nixon feels too mature an album to be a genuine breakthrough hit, but here we are...

Pretty good! I like the instrumentals a lot. Vary much soul /folk rock. Relaxing!

mjög nice og kosy plata, minnir mig á destroyer, virkar líklega mjög vel við alls konar tilefni, dinner, chilla, lesa, læra, whatever basically. bara allt í allt geðveikt nice plata, er að hlusta á The Book I Havent Read á meðan ég skrifa þetta, sjúklega þægilegt lag. ég er eiginlega korter í 5 stjörnurnar, ég ákveð það á morgun þegar ég má loksins gefa rating. þetta generator dót er veisla maður

I do enjoy the soothing sound of this music. It feels like maybe it was recorded in 1969, but then it has a few humorously startling phrases to break that spell (e.g. "And decapitate a rodent or a mouse.") The song titles are all delightful. I love the full instrumentation. Vibraphone! On first listening, this music sometimes slipped into the background. Giving it a more focused listen, I really appreciated it. My list of favorite songs keeps getting longer. I will thus single out "Nashville Parent" as a song that has everything I love about this album.

This sounded amazing… heard a lot of chatter about this album in the early noughties; never explored. I will now.

Er zit vast meer achter maar de muziek is aardig. Ik ga er nog eens naar luisteren

Great turn-of-the-millenium rock album, reminds me of The National

Slick grand and well structured indie rock. I am surprised how much I enjoyed this album. Instantly reels you in.

A great story telling album. Each piece is connected to the next and the ones after. The lyrics in this album are the main aspect to be listening for, but the backing track cannot be ignored either. It portrays the emotion it wants to nearly perfectly. My only gripe is that the falsetto the singer does isn't that great. Favorite track: Nashville Parent

At first I didn't like it too much, but as the album progressed it got more alike songs I would listen to, so overall I enjoyed it

A really beautiful album. Like a warm hug. Lyrical, melodic.

Listened to this whole album while playing Snowrunner, and it's a very good match for the vibe. 4/5

I would say a 3.5

I enjoyed this
