Reviews (page 5 of 7)
Interesting that this is an “alternative soundtrack” for a 1971 film. It sounds pretty mellow considering the film has been called a “speed freak road movie” and would have a lot of car chases. The LP is soundtrack like, meaning a lot of songs could be played in the background. “Kowalski” is not your typical single, but in light of all of Prodigy’s 1997 hits, it’s not surprising that this would make the UK charts. “Medication” is my favourite song.
Album didn’t grab me. Music didn’t engage me and I couldn’t appreciate it.
A sort of alternative to the big beat bands of the 90's, Primal Scream leaned into elements of rock music for their dance records. It's a particularly psychedelic dance record. It's as if Primal Scream wanted to elicit the seedy urban underbelly after a late night of dancing. The party rages on, but beware of what's out there.
sympatoche en fond mais j'écouterais pas activement
Fun electronic-influenced music with plenty of psychedelic style. But really, there’s a wide array of sounds here depending on the song. Some of it is vibey mood music, some leans more towards rock, some is more like dance. The 10-plus minute “Trainspotting” has a loose jazzy style and a hip-hop beat. Eclectic album! They must have a sense of humor calling themselves Primal Scream, knowing that people are constantly going to think they’re a different type of band. They get hard on a few tracks but you’d think they’re a hardcore metal band or something based on the name.
I love one half and hate the other.
I have never heard of this band. At first, it looks like it should be a metal record. It isn't. It's listed as "Alternative". So, the first song starts. Yes, alternative. The first few songs are pretty good: Good beats, groove, and sound. The next songs are just mediocre. It's good to be able to hear stuff like this from time to time.
I can't figure out if I love or hate this. I’ll split the difference and give it three stars.
pretty decent album, it would be a 9/10 if i was currently on an mdma comedown and having a mental breakdown
It was alright. I wasn’t blown away by anything. I was completely duped by the album and art and band name. I thought it would be some kind of screamo metal. Ultimately I’m not sure why this is on the list.
this is such a curate's egg album. A base layer of echo-ey dub, but there's thrash, 70s dub reggae, ballads and pretty much everything. Accordingly, no focus though a pleasant enough listen. The kind of album a band makes after a golden run comes to an end.
Totally competent and listenable, some cool stuff but nothing that made me go “oh damn, okay Primal Scream!”
Meh.
It sounds like Beatles during psychedelic phase but the album came out in '97 meh
Pretty solid electronic, was not expecting it.
It was a vibe
I never really got it with these guys. Just listen to the rolling stones or oasis or, failing that, a good band composed of more than a semblance of an attitude and a haircut. It's all just fine. Fine
Pas convaincu par la proposition mais elle existe au moins Les deux premiers morceaux sont biens
This album was pretty cool. The unique instrumentation definitely worked for me, and it didn't feel weird for the sake of being weird. Favorite track: If They Move, Kill 'Em
Meh
Notes of this and that...overall too diverse sonically for my ear to get a hold of it in any kind of satisfying way. I took to the more shoegaze and aggressive elements, but other parts less so. For an album named Vanishing Point there's a surprising lack of focus.
it was alright! cool noise.
3.5/5. Bit too experimental and eccentric for me but it's still respectable.
5/10 had some interesting parts but overall it mostly just felt like background music.
5/10. It was cool how different each song was from the others, it's just that I only really enjoyed like a third of them.
Snoozer. 5/10
'Rocks' use to be my favourite song. Still rocks!
Rock electrónico y neo-psicodelia. Ni fu ni fa.
This album did not impress me, but I still found it quite solid. It's a more than decent record, just not memorable.
Decent
Descriptions left me expecting something a little more more fast and furious, this was more experimental, though not in a bad way. It had that tendency to fade into background music for me however.
1st December 2022 Listened while driving to Mum and Dad’s and throughout the day. Finished on the 2nd. Not what I’d expect from Primal Scream who I knew more of an indie rock band, this was more experimental with an indie edge.
I am new to Primal Scream, I understand from research that they formed a signature of making every album extremely different. I like the idea that this album was their recreation of the soundtrack for some cult following underground film which they felt the soundtrack was all wrong for! It really does feel like a soundtrack listening to it and quite a cool one at that. I had no idea a Primal Scream album would be so chilled as this and I really like the sound of it. It's a mix of things I really like. I'm not quite following lyrics or meaning but that's probably because I do not know this random film at all. It's nice music to work to.
I felt a bit lost in this album to be honest, I'm not sure what I made of it! Some of it was a bit meh, but I liked how varied it was. And even the ones I wasn't as bothered I liked how iconic they were of a time, like this was the 'cool' music I imagine, messing around with mad synths etc.
I find Primal Scream a strange band, I don't know why but every time I listen I think 'this isn't what I expected' but I do like it
Very 90s
strange album
Rock un tanto psicodélico. Suave. Pensaba que iba a ser de otro estilo más cañero. Algo decepcionado
Couldn’t get into it but I’m sure it’s fine
Good
i listened to the album but i cant rememberr a thing
It's got at least 2 bangers in Stars and Medication, so the album gets at least a 3 for them. I expected a bit more from this as I'm pretty fond of Primal Scream, not to mention that 90s British drug vibe. Never felt fully cohesive as an album, with the sounds and influences jumping around too much to form a strong centre. Didn't dislike it though, and it kind of creates an an atmosphere, as the band describe it as 'an anarcho-syndicalist speedfreak road-movie record' which I personally don't entirely feel or understand. 2/11/22
Based on the cover art, I was expecting some shitty 90s butt-rock but I'm pleasantly surprised. Like some weird jammy dub-ambient at times, it's unique for sure. I can appreciate the genre-bending but it doesn't exactly mesh well with what I'd be looking for. Trainspotting is prob the coolest track though, total vibe.
Definitely varied and interesting. I dig the dub influence across it.
Good album, cool theme. Only one outstanding track though. 3/5
This album had a lot going on. I really liked a bit of it. I really didn't like other bits of it. And the rest I wasn't so sure. I could have used a bit more time maybe for this one. As it was, I just didn't feel the vision and my reactions to the songs were all very different. I did tend to like the instrumentals more than the vocal songs. I kind of like the James Bond/John Barry sound on "If They Move, Kill 'Em" and "Trainspotting." Other numbers, not so much.
Cooooooool
Groovy and fairly varied, strong 3
Ok
Well I wasn't expecting that. Enjoyable background music to work to, a couple songs rose above that (Burning Wheel, Out of the Void)
The instrumentals are very good. It's the vocals that bring this down into goofy 90s nonsense.
Fun trip hop like album
I liked Kowalski and I like the vibe. Very Lost Highway kind of feel. Not sure I’d go back to it again though, as not much stood out for me.
I couldn't quite decide whether or not I liked this album, so I listened to it a second time. I still don't really know how I feel about it. Parts of it are very interesting, experimental, and are very vibe-y, with an almost electronic new-age quality about them. Some of that new-age quality likely stems from some eastern influences I'm hearing nestled in the music. It honestly isn't half bad for some ambient music. Either way, I wasn't very wowed by it. I'd rate this at a high 2.-something, so I'm going to bump it up to 3.
Weird, but not bad
Interesting sounds. Not bad but not for me.
Really liked the instrumental parts and the atmosphere on this album.
Usual eclectic collection of Rolling Stones-ish rock n roll alongside dancey trancey electronica. Kowalski shows signs of the aggressive electro indie to come in the next two albums. Ok, but still living in the shadow of Andy Weatherall's Screamadelica.
Meh
There are often the right artists on this list but not the right album.
So many phases of PSs backstory. I only really know the (obv) dancey Screamadelica and the MBV mayhem of EXTRMNTR...(I know there is an early "jangle" period and that bluesy rock era too) This is is like a psychedelic film soundtrack. Some interesting stuff but not sure when I would play it. Ho hum.
Was a surprise but just OK.
Some tracks were really good, others were crap. Seemed to be a bit all over the place.
If it's called Primal Scream it should sound more like this: ahhhhhhhh
p802. 1997. 3 stars. Weird, but it's got something. It's like the soundtrack to a B movie., along with the associated risk of it becoming background music You have to be in the right mood for this otherwise I should imagine it gets tired very quickly. Worth listening to though.
Favorite song: Trainspotting.
Good. Great noises. Solid 3. Not an iffy 3 but a solid 3.
Early dub and ambient. music to have a psychotic beak with reality to.
Kinda cool I suppose.
Kind of a trippy album. I’m assuming, based on some of the samples in there, it’s loosely based on that late 60s/early 70s movie. Not nearly as strong a set as on Screamadelica.
It sounds like they watched Blade Runner and didn't quite understand it, but decided to make a soundtrack based on their idea of it anyway. Just lots of chill 2019 vibes from the late 90s. Best track: Kowalski
This album was pleasant enough, but didn't really hold my interest. It was hard to understand why it was on this list, though perhaps there is some context that I am missing 3/5
Good listening while I'm working in a dark theater by myself. You can hear the influence of The Doors on the first track before the rest of the album begins to sound like the rest of the 90's. But enjoyable. Really appreciated their use of spatial audio for an immersive experience.
Not my favorite Primal Scream record but this is good. Maaaaybr a bit tiring
I can see why it made the list but I don't know how often I would revisit it.
Meh
very experimental and divers sometimes the thought comes to mind if they thought about if they should even if they could
Kinda boring
This is what Thom listened to and said “this is my new bloop blorp sound” and just straight copied it but removed the songs before he released it
Engrossing and enjoyable. Apart from some interesting textures, nothing is particularly 'special' about the record - musical decisions are familiar and expected, and musicianship is adequate - leaving me a bit underwhelmed.
This was alright, kind of ambient, but I liked the sounds. The cover scared me a little.
So so, not their best
I'm not an electronic music guy. I can appreciate the artistry, but it's not really for me.
Had it on at work, nothing stood out as good or bad
Based on the band name and album cover I thought this was going to be miserable. And yet, it was really enjoyable! I liked the melodies quite a bit, and it didn't overstay its welcome.
Had some interesting ideas, but I found it pretty borring overall. Not bad, but on the lower side of 3.
Weird 90s abstract trippy electronica that seems to appear a lot in this list fused with some classic Brit Pop (Medication) makes this an all up a nice time
Interesting sounds that go out there at times, but never way out there. It's very theatrical at times (which I like), meditative at others (which I also like), aggressive occasionally (but never too much so).
sometimes it's lush and dreamy, sometimes it's blippy...sometimes it's melodic, sometimes it's grindy. i should like this more than i do, based on that alone. but i just didn't, not all that much. Star and Long Life are cool tracks, though.
i appreciate the ideas but i find it falls flat for most of the runtime. 2.5-3/10
Experimental industrial music, ok but not something I would buy in the first place.
Dunno what to think about this one. I think I enjoyed some of it? It's unusual and the structure of it is a mess
blur pero metidos de lsd
It was good. I actually knowing more songs on this album than I had realized. Solid.
What was sure to be an early-influencer of future electronic bands, this album has a certain background aesthetic and lingering satisfaction.
This album is full of samples and interesting snippets, but I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of the finished product. Definitely makes more sense how they ended up at XTRMNTR next. Fav tracks: Star and Long Life
Primal Scream feel like a different band on every record. Here, the 90s British dance influence seems to coincide with an injection of Spirtualized-style space rock. It's an interesting listen, but it didn't click with me as much as some of their other material and it's hard for me to say that this one is as essential as others in the top 1001 albums. Favourite song: Long Life
Some killer, some filler. The album loses its way a little and just kind of fritters off. Nearly a 4, but I gotta go with 3
Solid.
Sort of odd. 0RS
Atmospherical, psychedelic, interesting textures and cosmic sounds. To be heard as a whole, you will never get bored of it
Very chill music. Some pretty cool melodies. 6-7/10
Despite myself, I continue enjoying Primal Scream. And still really like Chaosmosis at that! This is universally more acclaimed, but I just couldn't get into the right mood.
Kind of jazzy rock, wanted more momentum to it
Was nor impressed. Mediocre at best
This was not what I was expecting but u still don’t think it’s really for me
Did not love the whole aesthetics of this album. Felt a little bit like the Chemical Brothers, but with a lack of style and with weird mixes of dub, etc.
Pseudo punk from US
I was going to quit and give this a 1 after Stuka. Then the guitars kicked in on Medication and gave it one more chance. I guess I'm glad that I finished it out. Medication, Motorhead and Trainspotting were better than what came before it. Though Long Life was a slog. It's just kind of a boring mess to be honest. Too many influences not properly reigned in by a producer.
Gyyyarrr, she’s got some good grooves.
Not a very engaging album overall for me.
4/10 - Few good songs on there but mostly just skippable songs
This was a weird experience for me. I know I listened to this album, and even know I enjoyed it. Yet I can't remember anything about it. Not being very memorable isn't a bad thing but it is sort of a disappointment.
trop conceptuel pour moi, peut etre trop moderne à certains moments. des titres rock fonctionnent bien. mais globalement pas un album que j'achèterais
This is basically the parts I didn't like on Screamdelica without the parts I did like
A couple of good tracks (Star & Medication). For the most part this album was quite annoying for me.
Det bliver vist aldrig et band der siger mig super meget
Sounds like a 90s heist movie
It has some good moments - but feels quite dated and a bit joyless (stark comparison to screamadelica). I saw them at Glastonbury in 97 and assume they must have been playing his album - all I can remember is they were pissed and awful.
It's not Screamadelica. Much more Massive Attack /Underworld-esque, without being as good as Massive Attack or Underworld.
Interesting album but it's not for me.
I’ve had a bunch of dance and house albums from the list lately and this has some overlap, but then also has some britpop tinges. I’m not sure what it’s meant to be, but I don’t find it especially engaging.
Very little thrill, and not that interesting of an experiment. Some of it is nice, some of it is grating, some of it is pretty tired. Not worthy of a spot, but not the most atrocious thing I ever heard.
My favorite song was the last one because it meant I was free
Not really by jam.
There were about 1 or 2 decent songs on this album, and the rest of the songs were either dull AF, or downright annoying.
Interesting take on ambient electronica. Starts strong but tapers off very quickly after the midpoint of the album. Would have been a much more cohesive EP or individual singles. Works nicely as background music, but not a lot to dig into with a more intentional listen. Top tracks: Burning Wheel, Kowalski
not bad but forgettable
A poor man’s Screamadelica
Band name not matching the music big-time. I always thought this was an electronica act.
It was okay, I found nothing too offensive about it or anything too likeable.
You know what it helped me lock in this morning so there’s that.
meh
Just boring for me. Some great psychedelica guitar licks and atmosphere but I prefer the more lyrically driven, upbeat parts. Some of this album really drones on.
Meh
This first time I got these gus I called their album "background music to a video you'd find on Youtube while tripping or something." and this didn't really change my opinion on them much. 3/10
2.1
**not much music, mostly banging and screeching instruments
Fell off
Authentic in their style and approach, serious w their subjects, but do I want to listen over and over? I do not.
A bit of a weird mix of what I would call “standard” 90s rock, experimental electronic stuff, and “jam band” extended instrumental bits. The main part that didn’t work for me was the electronic elements, which I found to be a tough listen. I didn’t think that there was anything special here either, though, and couldn’t strongly recommend this album as a whole.
fine, 2.5
naja
This feels like hard and/or electronic ambient music. There's something there, but otherwise pretty sleepy. Reminds me of music used in futuristic video games that came out around the same time.
I’m not sure about this. I doubt that it’s something that I will really enjoy
Sort of, but not really
Felt very 90's, but not in a good way. I can't say what was bad about it specifically, but really just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.
A bit messy
I feel like I tried. I enjoyed their other album, but this one didn't resonate. I found several of the tracks annoying or frustrating to listen to.
Это рок или фанки щит? Нихуя не понял
Not a favorite for me.
Gardez ça pour vous les prochaines fois
Interesting, 2.5 but I guess I'll have to give it one or the other. Wasn't very familiar with the band before this, listening to some of their other work its wild how varied their music is.
Those sounds were not music to my ears. A very generous 2.
A couple of nice basslines aside this is a boiled chicken breast of an album. Annoyingly bland, instantly forgettable
This was fine I guess? But it just. Kept. Going.
I was told there would be screaming.
Lite för alternativt för mig men ändå intressant lyssning.
Favorite Track: Trainspotting
I almost had to shut it off at Stuka as its mashed up noises assaulted my ears. And then the next song Medication saved me when it was actually bearable. That reprieve was the only bright spot in this mess though.
This says and doesn't say everything you need to know about these guys: "Gillespie has described the album as an anarcho-syndicalist speedfreak road-movie record." I can confirm that listening to this in its entirety doesn't clarify or explain that description whatsoever and continues to perplex the listener. What is this? Robot music? In our new AI world, I imagine someone asked AI to make music that the AI bot would like to listen to and this album was 'generated'. And, no the AI bot doesn't have good taste in music since it is trained on ALL of the music in the world.
A bit weird - for the most part, not what I would expect from Primal Scream. Not bad, but I doubt I'll give it another listen in future.
For an artist called Primal Scream, it really does not achieve what they are advertising. Like, I definitely listened to this album, but it is so forgettable that, upon relistening, I only remember vague parts of it. The electronic stuff is so random sometimes, which is the genre. Yeah, whatever, not my thing.
Some interesting soundscapes but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t bored out of my mind.
zzzzzzz
Gen X rock music is so much worse than any other period's.
Likes: Lead vocal, some of the more analogue instrumentation Dislikes: Industrial instrumentation, noise elements, lack melody in most songs Overall, I found little to enjoy here. Too noisy/jarring to fall into a good groove, and I dislike the industrial/digital sonic aesthetic. Reminds me of The Cure’s “Wish,” but with bad instrumentation and no charm.
This album could have been skipped for sure. The bulk of it is pretty forgettable and sounds half assed. There's a couple cool grooves on the record, but they overstay their welcome.
Solid Meh
Enjoyed Star but the rest didn’t really do it for me, tried to listen twice and just lost interest
Not into this. Felt very long and anticlimactic. Droning 90s electronics stuff
I thought this was going to be edgy and interesting. How wrong I was. Boring.
giving alien realness
This band seems to be more interested in creating soundscapes than playing music. I liked "Medication" and probably would have liked the album if it were more in that song's vein.
Dissonant is a word I would use to describe this. I really wanted to like it more.
Pre-Listen Thoughts: this one has very few listeners in general, some of these songs have less than 1,000,000 listens ever. Which doesn't necessarily mean that the album is bad, but looking at the track titles, cover art, and general vibe of the band's imagery/Spotify page, I'm not convinced I'm going to love this, but I am intrigued. After reading the album description, it makes more sense! Definitely does sound a lot like movie background music, and even sound effects at times. I like that there's very few vocals. A lot of the vocals that are on here are quite strange. Not sure I love the album, but it is way more listen-able than I had anticipated and there's some fun stuff on it. Definitely understand the movie soundtrack inspiration.
Album 104. Vanishing Point (https://open.spotify.com/album/1MCmkNa0UxhulmHkGBqw1n?si=lPGPoOSDRA-K_46aiBHOUA) — Primal Scream (1997) I got tired of listening after the first half. It's not bad, but not good either. Okay for a one-time listen. It's a little trippy, a little noisy, a little psychedelic, a little electronic, a little lofi chill, a little everything and the album is getting a little rating as well. Bland. 2/5 No liked songs
I continue to be staggered at the never-ending parade of electronic music albums on this list. This one, like most of the others, mostly sucked. There were two decent tracks that sounded almost like Britpop rock with an aggressive beat, but most of the songs were an amalgamation of squealing, distortion, and random computer noises that offended the senses. Very low 2/5 based on the two OK tracks.
Decepcionante.
Maybe I'll give this another try sometime.
209/1001 Primal Scream - Vanishing Point Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ Primal Scream are so hit or miss for me and this is one that wasn't great. Certainly some aspects I enjoyed, but not enough for me to revisit.
I did find the sounds on this interesting, but I couldn't get past the vocalist. G9nna check out more albums on the genre tho
Some cool stuff in there but also a little disorganized and muddy
With the exception of one or two songs, this just sounded like the music used for action sequences on late-2000s tv shows on the USA network.
Airy noisy, but I like the follow up better. Not sure I'd listen to this again
Too synthy for me
Eh
It was fun,but nothing astounding to me. I can hear their influence on Gorillaz, though.
vibe MTV no horário de almoço com aqueles clipes de bandas alternativas não gosto dessa vibe, músicas tristes, que me deixam triste também, odiei
Boring. I can see the appeal maybe after a night out. Maybe come down music, but most tracks seem kind of aimless. Not unpleasant to listen to in the background
not my thing, only managed to get thru first 5 songs
Had like 2 songs that are good, the rest is just noise its rlly bad
I was expecting screamo metal (judging a book by its cover I guess), got 90s electronic instead. I didn't hate it, but did not need to listen to it.
Okay-lah....
More boring than their last album I listened to.
1. Burning Wheel - felt like a nothing burger really? almost like i was listening to a set-up for a big and loud chorus(any other part really) and just didnt get anything at the end :/ 4/10 was my initial rating of this song, but after listening to the rest of the album i have to give it at least a - 6/10 2. Get Duffy - if i were to describe the song, i dont know if boring would be the right word. this sounds like a really forgettable song off an otherwise really good OST. inoffensive, but nothing really notable (i liked the sax? part around minute 1 though). - 5/10 3 .Kowalski - I feel like the song overstays its welcome quite a bit, and while i like it a lot more than the previous ones, it just becomes boring to listen to after about 2 minutes because you've basically already heard everything the song has to offer. a grand improvement but still a - 6/10 4. Star - hearing the synth bass at the beginning i expected finally something mean and energetic for once but i was disappointed once again. The lyrics sound very corny and nothing really to write home about, i feel like i already heard the instrumental on this album (im at song 4, jeez). And here i thought hippies were dead. Sounds like some satire on hippies really - 3/10 5. If They Move Kill 'Em - This one really got me vibing, really groovy, reminded me of old school hip-hop instrumentals, even though i havent really listened to any respectable amount of it. every instrument, every little pause feels very nice and tight (except for the sitar, really had me raise my eyebrow when i first heard it) loved this one, even though i wouldnt come back to it - 6/10 6. Out of the Void - boring, kind of tries to have like a spacey/trippy, yet intimate felling with the lyrics (i typically dont really listen and try to figure out the lyrics of songs on my first listen and this song wasnt an exception so idk about the real subject of those). inoffensive, samey instrumental, nice bridge/solo part (only lasted like 10 seconds tho), kind of annoying vocals? overall a - 4/10 7. Stuka - why is this thing almost 6 minutes long? one of the most insufferable songs i've ever had the unpleasure of sitting through. the instrumental parts (which i thought would be the better part of the album and lightened up when i realised this was an instrumental song, it wasnt btw) feel like a bad improv session (which i dearly hope it was). the robot voice is a thing of its time and maybe it was cool and innovative back then, so im not saying anything against it. awful, annoying, and for a lack of better words - straight ass. The crowd goes to - 1/10 8. Medication - Feels like a breath of fresh air, this kind of stuff has been done better, but its still a decent one compared to the other songs on this album. The vocals lacked emotion/passion for me - 5/10 9. Motorhead - No, not the good one, although it isnt as bad as i expected this to be. Would like if the guitars were a bit louder, and once again the vocals feel very forced and unemotional - 4/10 10. Trainspotting - this has no right being 8 minutes. the song literally feels like the second part was copypasted just to make the song longer for some reason. i could literally copy the entry for Get Duffy and still entirely represent what i feel about the song. very meh, very long, very - 4/10 11. Long Life - ngl enjoyed this one the most out of the album, didnt like some of the decisions made, but still probably the best song on the album, not a somewhat interesting or original one though. miles of artists do this kind of stuff better - 5/10 This was my first impression of using this site and i struggled to get through the first album it recommended to me :/ I dont get why people like this album Average Rating: 4.3/10 (2.1/5) tbh would leave 1/5 for how much of a letdown this was for me, really expected to be recommended something listenable :/ Favourite Song: If They Move Kill 'Em Least favourite song: Stuka
Ok 2/5
I didn’t hate this nearly as much as I thought I would. I actually really enjoyed a good portion of it, but there’s no chance I’ll ever voluntarily listen to this album in its entirety ever again because of the other portion.
Quite forgettable, was fine to hear in the background. Production is fine but the thing lacks focus
At times felt like video game menu music, which isn't a bad thing, just not too exciting or interesting.
Good album. I enjoyed listening.
Sangen erikoista ⭐️⭐️
(31/100)
This album goes from annoying to generic and I don't think I love this. Still, not completely unlistenable. 2 stars.
It is absurd XTRMNTR is not on here. The conceit of this record is a bit lost to time now, Vanishing Point and other b-movies are pretty easy to see now and respecting the original ideas behind a film soundtrack is more accepted today (and somewhat in keeping with the 1001 premise of trying to appreciate older music for its era). Anyhow, not as into this one as the ones on either side, one of which is the best thing Gillespie has maybe ever been involved in. Again, it is absurd XTRMNTR is not on here.
Like “get Duffy” on this album a lot but didn’t really vibe with anything else
Some ok stuff on here
Man this is soooo late 90’s all the way around. I’ve never heard this, can’t say I enjoyed much of it. Some creative aspects to it, so not knocking it too hard. But wouldn’t revisit ever
This was so meh it was meh. It was made. I listened to it. That’s about how I feel. 2.25
I see a few glimmers of good ideas but it's all too dull and more than ever convinces me Primal Scream are what indie kids think rock and dance should sound like.
Not dancey or fun enough to be memorable
not interesting
< The Beatles I have listened to Primal Scream before but never this album. I see why.
Yeah there was maybe 2 decent songs on this.ostly it was noisecore. Not for me
Yet another band I had heard OF but don't think I had ever actually HEARD. Seeing that it came out in 1997 made me a little nervous - that year was kind of the threshold between a lot of music that I loved and a lot of music that I hated. This music sounds familiar to me - maybe I actually DID hear it at some point? It was probably playing in a lot of the bars I was hanging out in back in those days. The singer reminds me of Damon Albarn. The first song was OK but I liked it less and less with each song. I think this music was on the other side of that threshold. "Kowalski" samples the movie that Axl was quoting in "Breakdown" on Use Your Illusion II. Just looked up the video of the original and never knew it was Cleavon Little! Guess I need to see Vanishing Point now. Did not like "If They Move, Kill 'Em" at all. Nor "Stuka." I am going to disagree with the author that anyone needs to hear this album before they die. Aha! "Trainspotting!" Of course I've heard that! OK, I like that one (although probably less than any other song on that soundtrack.) But that's about it.
An industrial experiment reminiscent of early NIN. some good some just not hitting the mark.
it's a typical 90's indie Brit-Pop-Rock album. Much in the vein of Stone Roses, Pulp, and Blur but with a splash of overrated Radio Head. which is rock with a mixture of over drawn-out electronica (with the three previously mentioned bands being much better). Reminded me of a self-indulged Radio Head album, songs that have too much trippy type of instrumental where you are only waiting for the song to end so you can hear the next track. Only one track really stood out to me, "Medication". I think will listen to the Stone Roses now (their first album, which is awesome and i pray it's one of the 1001).
This isn't my cup of tea and I struggle listening to it. That being said, I do appreciate the talent it takes to make this "manufactured rock" and it is interesting. Just gets old after one or two songs.
Didn’t particularly enjoy this one. Get some hints of trip hop and dub but not a lot of grooves. Just kinda meh for me.
I had fairly high hopes for this album for some reason. Possibly due to remembering Primal Scream in their early days being played at a number of clubs I frequented (Loaded and Moving on Up seemed to be everywhere) but this ended up being fairly bland background noise. Was quite disappointed as I was looking forwarded to listening to an entire album from these guys as I’m not sure I’ve listened to any of their albums since Screamadelica and can’t remember that apart from the signature tracks anymore.
More bad 90s music.
Pretty forgettable and not very engaging.
Um disco absurdamente irregular, passeando por momentos de melodias atraentes, como em "Medication", mas em sua maioria soa como uma confusão de batidas. Mediano.
I feel like this wanted to be chill background music but too often the chill vibe was interrupted by some strange noises. Idk. Did not enjoy
There are a few interesting melodies throughout and it's not bad as an ambient background track but nothing stood out. Some parts felt unfinished, others just uninspired. Nothing really objectionable, I just don't see any reason to revisit it. The bass clarinet part was neat.
A lesser version of what its predecessors were doing, what its contemporaries were doing, and what future bands inspired by this album were doing. None of the elements come together for a satisfying album. Favorite track: Burning Wheel Least favorite track: Kowalski not adding to collection
Does not sound like a primal scream to me.
Didn’t do it for me sorry
2.5
2.0
I find Primal Scream an utterly tedious band and I realise a lot of that is to do with the terrible, nasal way Bobby Gillespie sings I quite liked the sound of a lot of this though but I’m never coming back to listen to it again
No, thank you.
was expecting something a lot heavier, more metal with a name like Primal Scream, instead met with this wishy washy lot of noise. It picked up in places then went back to the noises. Disappointed
I was pretty bored with this one about a minute in. Maybe it was more interesting in its day, but not now.
Very chill psych rock / electronic music. It was ok as background music but I found it a bit boring.
With a name like Primal Scream, I was expecting something more aggressive than this. Overpromised and underdelivered.
2,5
Der Trainspotting Song ist cool. Der Rest ... na ja.
Not the best album by PS. Still a good album but wouldn’t be my first choice to play of PS. But still you can hear that PS sound which is understandable to be entertaining. Echo deck was a better album although I’m sure that was a collaboration with someone (can’t remember his name at moment).
the cover and artist name scared me lowkey but i ended up liking it more than i expected (still slightly annoying)
I didn't like it in general, but some songs were not bad
A bit too out there for me
It wasn’t horrible.
Eh… interesting combination of psychedelic rock, electronic, trip hop? I didn’t really vibe with many of the tracks. Sort of felt like B-sides from the Matrix soundtrack or something. It’s a no for me.
259/1089 - A bit annoying at times but mostly samey. Neither bad nor good.
This sucks, put it down
meandering background music for film directors asphyxiate themselves to
This is outrageous... this is contaaaaagious
Komische Musik
Not nearly as good as the other album I heard from Primal Scream - Screamadelia. 3/10
No private session used for Spotify. This is the second Primal Scream album I have been tasked to review in the last few weeks. I was excited because the other Primal Scream was a great listen, but this one was a bit of a disappointment as nothing in it really grabbed me and that was after two listens.
Best Song: Medication My second, and hopefully last, Primal Scream album. This album reminds me of an episode of Friends, where Ross plays the keyboard and it is all ridiculous sound effects. This is basically that album. 2/5.
Rock, electr., 1997 -> 2
🥱
The Indy rock bits are good, but then it goes straight back to weird electro
I really liked this album. I can tell from a few of the reviews that this feeling is not mutual. I thought Burning Wheel and Kowalski were the album's strong points. Star was a strange turn to almost dreamy pop after Kowlaski. Stuka was super cool and felt almost trance-like. Motorhead reminds of Republica's Ready To Go.
mid!
Boring, cannot finish this one...
What the hell was going on with this band? What genre were they?
Somewhat interesting but ultimately not for me. Too many things going on both musically and in the genres. Overall- not bad but not for me
meh. chill. mellow. background music.
I enjoy the vocals, but the instrumentals at the start of most of the songs are a bit too long. Also, I prefer songs with vocals, and a lot of the songs on this album don't have any vocals. Its not generally what I enjoy listening to, but I suppose its alright.
Muitos efeitos sonoros
ik kende de groep, maar kon niet direct iets uitmaken uit de playlist... na beluisteren wist ik waarom... jams zonder einde... slaapverwekkende ritmes... geen hoogvlieger
1997. Again, Primal Scream is not what is seems. Instrumental and experimental in its late 90's electronic rock vibe.
My first album of this project. Just not my thing. There were some cool elements, but it just seemed to drag on.
Album 875 of 1089 Primal Scream - Vanishing Point (1997) Rating : 2 / 5 It’s an album I listened to, and while I never felt the urge to turn it off, it didn’t do much for me either. Not terrible, just very average rock that’s been done by plenty of bands before—and done better. It wasn’t until track 8 (“Medication”) that something finally grabbed my attention, but by then it already felt like I’d sat through a lot of filler. I could easily name several albums more deserving of a spot on this list. Just a very “meh” listen overall.
Select Magazine were obsessed with this back in the day but it was all a bit boring tbh
First time sitting down with a Primal Scream album. Cool record. I appreciate that they’re not tied down to one genre. Looking forward to checking more out.
Fun and ultimately forgettable pop rock. Dig the spy stuff.
Okish. Nice soundtrack music. Caught myself tapping me feet a couple of times 4.0
Kind of a big nothing burger. Nothing stood out as bad or good. It was just on, nothing that was captivating. Don't see how an album that invokes so little emotion in any direction can be considered a must listen, but this list love mediocre music from the UK. 4.4/10 132/1001
That's not my taste in music
This album was very hit or miss for me. The hits were when it was more electronic/ambient sounding... the last track "Long Life" was a standout in this regard. It missed when it was more in the rock world and sounded like the Black Crows.
To slow for my taste is what I felt during the first song and that thought was true throughout the album.
2 - ok
Look me in my eyes and tell me I need to listen to this before I die. Not a terrible album, I thought it picked up on the B-Side but c'mon people.
The trainspotting soundtrack is fine, the rest, so so...
I was expecting some primal screams.
Great music but I can't tolerate Gillespie's fake southern drawl. It seems so phony.
Nice for background music Trainspotting 3/5 Rest of album is a skip; unlikely to listen agin
I heard the name of this band many times. I didn’t know what I was expecting-from the name, I was picturing some sort of new wave band. Then I saw this album was from 1997. It sounds like it’s from 1997, though not in a good way. Despite all the noises, it succeeds in being wallpaper music for a PlayStation snowboarding game. Not terrible, but nothing that excites me, either.
I vacillated between not liking this and liking this almost every song. In the end I think I land on not liking it much
huuutaakaaaaa raaaaa raaaa raaaaa-... joo tässä on hyvää ja huonoa en tiedä miksi on tämmöinen jukstapotsistion laitettu tähän näin koska tota osittain on niinkun mietin että hmmm hyvää ja sitten seuraava hetkonen hetkonens seentään tämä on huonoa hmmm. niin kysymykseni teille on siis eli menee näin: miten ajattellitte kun teitte projektia että miksi näin .... on? - tuo oli minun kysymykseni vuonna 1997 tämän albumin produktiotiimille ja takaisin heitettiin vaan paskaa niskaan. että se oli aika huono kokemus . ask reddit who celebrity fucking assholes ? answer roavert young & bobby gillespie. ffuck them. trainspotting
Haven’t seen the film that the album’s named after- maybe that would have made me like it more. But as it is it varied between the strange and annoying and the slow and boring- sometimes managing to hit both. Favourite song: Medication Least: Out of the Void
Not my thing.
I was expecting more from this. Extra star for the Motorhead cover (which was a nice surprise).
Unfocused listening while playing Slay the Spire. Think I read that it was their version of a soundtrack for a film named Vanishing Point. I can see that it was a soundtrack, not many singles stood out to me, but the album had a suggestive and intriguing feel.
Na
Some of the songs have an eerily cool factor, but I hate the distortion ones. And that cool factor is not overly prominent. Kinda dull overall but with nice points
Parts are okay, but the album is mostly forgettable. Don’t really know this album gets on a list of must listen. 2/5 Won’t listen again
First of all, I think this band name is terrible, because if I'm going off first impressions then the vibes are already off. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself in to, and it was better than I expected...but still not good? Too dark, too many weird noises, didn't like the vocals, dark alley trash can drums, and windy whispering synth sounds.
