Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Its ok. Took me back to the 80's. Some good tunes on there and all in all good fun

Pretty much everything about Def Leppard had passed me by until now (though I did recognise Pour Some Sugar On Me), but that was pretty good. Massively OTT, very glam, but bags of fun. He can't sing particularly well, but that doesn't even matter that much with this, it's half sung and half shouted anyway. Best if you don't really listen to their lyrics (they aren't offensive or anything, just a bit cliched), just nod your head to it and enjoy the GINORMOUS sound. 3/5 - in a similar vein to the Bon Jovi album we had quite a while ago, but not as catchy as that was. Almost a 4 though.

Well there's a time and place right? A road trip or mid life crisis as a middle aged man? JK! This kind of classic rock is somewhat a guilty pleasure at times and harks back to the seminal Air Guitar album I reference in other reviews. So it's not my bag that much any more but it's fun right?! 3.5 if I could

Ermmm well I guess it is what it is. It's not bad but there's only so long I can listen to this kind of dad rock and this felt like a looooong album.

Always felt very average about these guys

oké maar zo zijn er veel van,

Pour some sugar on me sheesh ik kan het niet laten om dat niet mee te zingen. Iets teveel filler songs imo

Many of the songs sound the same but I like that one song so it was ok.

I've always been indifferent to Def Leppard. They're fine, in my estimation. Never took them too seriously, but I could understand why their music was so popular. I saw them live. They were good. On a closer listen, it's amazing how banal the songs are. I do like the music, there are melodies galore, and the call and response thing these guys have developed is catchy. And I'm fine with Joe Elliott's vocals. But my god, the lyrics are painful. "Skin on skin/Let the love begin/WOMEN!" from the opener had me snickering. And "You got the peaches, I got the cream" from "Pour Some Sugar On Me," was another that made me groan with embarrassment. This album sold 25 million copies. It was HUGE. And it's total nonsense. But it SOUNDS fantastic, it's massive, and they obviously did what they set out to do. Factor in the story of Ric Alllen (drummer) and that adds a compelling dimension to the story. But there are too many things about the album that are ridiculous. Just the way the massive gang of Leppards phrase the words "poore sum shuggar ohn maye" like they're some band of tough thugs is patently funny. So, whatever, I guess I'm way past my Def Leppard phase. When I need a nugget of catchy pop hard candy, I'll reach for Poppy.

Pour some sugar on me!!! Love it.... Enjoyed most songs on the album, but was a bit too much like axel rose for my liking

Ik dacht dat dit een stuk hardere muziek zou zijn, maar is een beetje glamrock a la Aerosmith. Niet slecht, maar ook niet echt mijn ding.

Def Leppard's trademark have always been energetic, radio-friendly rock songs with 80s songwritghting and produciton sensibilities. And this is exactly what we get here. With every. single. song. The tracks themselves aren't necessarily bad, but it's generally too much of the same during the album's 1 hour and 2 minutes runtime. It's just too long with too little variation. 3/5

Not bad, but not much variety throughout. Mad props for what they've accomplished, just not quite for me.

Solid 3.5 from me, but this thing was a monster in its day. You couldn’t turn of FM rock radio or MTV and not hear something from this album.

Probably over hyped myself reading about this one. Read that everyone was copying their sound at the time, so they tried to reinvent themselves/change things up a bit with this album. Normally love it when bands take a gamble like that. Well less safe/boring and it’s good to see musicians challenging themselves. Didn’t quite grab me the way I thought it would but enjoyed it nonetheless. Did groan a little at the run time

Enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. That glam rock genre is usually something I just don't enjoy. Something about the vocals in this genre very rarely sits well with me but this was sound. Saved a few songs and I especially enjoyed the opener. Nice surprise with the only let down being that it was a few songs too long. Strong 3

My first tape as a child. Loved this album. Now, not so much, some good songs, some garbage (excitable). Basically pop music.

This is quite easy-ish listening. A bit of general toe tapping and head nodding going on. But this kind of 80's rock just feels a bit empty for the most part, devoid of any real depth of feeling. There are some standout tracks in here that I dig, including 'Love Bites'.

See Pyromania.

rock de los 80 smooth prolijo me da la sensacion medio pavote

I thought this was going to a Pyromania level album, but it turned out to be a bit of a dud. Was excited for the mega-shop-tunes. Still not terrible.

Fine to work to in the background. Nothing crazy memorable for me. A 3.5

A well produced but a rather stiff album - those were right who called it a pop metal record than anything metal/glam rock. It is fun listening to nevertheless even though it's not the genre I often listen to.

There was really no way to escape this album when I was a kid and like it or not, it was part of my childhood. Hysteria was part of the 1980's straight cheese. I'm talking big hair, highlights, perms, collars up on my jean jacket and high top reeboks on my feet. Casey Kasem on radio, Hulk Hogan on my wall and Winstons. This was the mainstream version of Metallica and just popped just before the rise of GnR. Lamestream, mainstream. This seems to have aged appropriately, unlike the rest of us. Still a good listen today.

While "Pour Some Sugar On Me" was a huge hit, possibly bigger than anything on "Pyromania," I give the slight edge to "Pyromania" overall. There are a few hits on "Hysteria," but everything else is pretty unspectacular when spectacular is kind of what the genre is all about. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and a few others have some pretty cringey lyrics too. If "Pyromania was a high 3, this one is barely a low 3.

I give Pyromania a slight edge. Hysteria veered a little more towards the pop-side of pop-metal.

When I hear this album, I think of white trash…mullet, Bret the Hitman Heart tank top, and a trucker hat…standing on the chairs at a bar screaming, “POUR SOME SUGAR ON MEEEEE, IN THE NAME OF LO-OVE!!!” I can’t get this picture out of my head.

Not much to say against this, nice middle-of-the-road-stuff.

It's ok. Off course there are hits and it's impossible not to sing along to "Pour some sugar on me" but overall the album feels boring and repetitive after a while. Definitely a go to for a 80s theme party, I wouldn't listen to it all day tho.

I was 11 when Pyromania came out, love that album and Def Leppard. By the time Hysteria came out my favorite bands were Slayer and Metallica. Needless to say I was fairly disappointed with it. That being said, while the production isn't for me, I can appreciate the techniques that were used and applied in making the album. The album was a juggernaut in the 80s. Hysteria, Born in the USA,Thriller, Joshua Tree and Appetite just seem to churn out songs. It's get a 3 for me, 2 for the music plus 1 for the fond memories of high school make out session while listening to it. Hard to make out to Angel of Death.

Another one of those bands that one of my friends was deeply into but I wasn't. Reading the history of this album was interesting but I didn't find it overly compelling, Love Bites and Pour Some Sugar On Me got stuck in my head but not sure if that makes them faves.

Cock rock or hair metal or whatever this counts as has always left me cold, and this is no exception. I guess it didn't majorly get on my nerves? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fave track - "Pour Some Sugar On Me" was the most familiar, I guess? The intro of "Gods of War" made it sound like it was gonna me some moody post-punk biz, but then it veered back into cock rock. 😒 "Run Riot" was kinda fun, I spose....

Hysteria is the fourth album by English rock band Def Leppard, and it's their best-selling one as well as also being certified diamond in 2009. This hard rock, glam metal album performed well critically and commercially, even though it was more "poppy" than their previous albums. An interesting fact about Hysteria is that it was delayed because of a car accident that drummer Rick Allen got into at the end of 1984, which caused him to lose his left arm and have to relearn drums using a foot pedal for anything his arm would have done. This also caused the drums to sound a little stiff or mechanized, but that was to be expected. I was surprised to actually like this album because some of the Def Leppard songs I have heard before never piqued my interest like the tracks on this one. Great pop metal album!

I always thought DL were more like Pantera but they're actually more Bon Jovi meets Guns and Roses. A few familiar moments on here which was nice because I didn't think I knew any of their songs. Not really for me, I gave a bonus point because they do it all with a one-armed drummer.

It would be interesting to hear this again for the first time (although a few songs were new to me). You couldn't get away from this band in the 80s. I liked them a lot then, but it's quite corny now. I didn't have money to buy my own music until Adrenalize came out. It was a wet sock and I regretted spending 2 working hours of my $4.25/hr job on it. I think a lot of my impression of Def Leppard is colored by that now. But this review is about Hysteria. Definitely a pop record. Catchy songs. I did enjoy them at the time and they are okay now. Don't try to get too far away from this just being a fun listen. That's what it is. And it's not bad at that.

Not as bad as I thought, but not really my thing either.

The only big Sheffield act that I don't get. Hair metal and Sheffield United not my thing. However, this was more fun than I anticipated, with a couple of stone cold bangers in Pour Some Sugar and, best song, Animal

This album screams 80's. I enjoyed second half of album more. God's of War and Don't Shoot Shot Gun were my favorite tracks. Warrant definitely ripped Pour Some Sugar on me sound for Cherry Pie. Our not really my vibe but cool for what it is.

Iconic pop rock hair metal. Takes me back to grade 7-8 and hearing the singles everywhere. Especially the local travelling fair or carney. You could play any song from this album in a movie and you would know exactly with zeitgeist is. Didn’t really like then and don’t now. But I wouldn’t hate anyone for likely it. I’m just never going to put it on got myself to listen to.

Listens: 2 Enjoyed: meh first time listening to Def Leopard and they really aren't what I've always imagined them to be. This album starts off pretty mellow and soft to slow becoming a bit harder. I had a few moments of enjoyment here but ultimately I don't think I'd actively seek it out in the future

Pretty good! It would be hard to say that this isn’t a tight album. If the Def Leppard sound were a recipe it would be as follows: take some big reverberant backbeats, thick electric guitars, growly vocals, groovy 8th-note bass lines, raunchy lyrics, then mix well and supersize the whole thing until it fills a stadium. Surprisingly groovy too! Not just head-bobbing 80s rock, a little bit of hip swing in there as well. My favorites were “Rocket,” “Love Bites,” and “Hysteria”. Probably because I found those three to be the quirkiest in terms of interludes, grooves, and overall mood. Not much more to say here; this isn’t my go-to genre but I enjoyed listening to it!

Okay I finally listened to Def Leppard, but only because at some point Jacob threatened to stop picking up my calls if I didn’t. I liked it! I listened to it over the course of two runs and the first half of the album really made me run faster. Really enjoyed the opening of the album, Woman. The first three songs are great and then the album loses steam for me. It could have been 4-5 songs shorter. Great guitar hooks all around though. It’s fun to imagine this would be playing at a crowded sports bar in the 80s. You’d probably find some dirty pinball machines in the back. Jacob describes this as pinball music, but really what’s happening here is that specific sounds in the second half of “Gods of War” are actually in Star Trek Next Generation pinball machine and lots of other machines! Those gun and metallic vocals are really pinball, I’m with you Jacob. Overall, I did my duty and listened to this album in full. If they had kept up the momentum of the first three songs, it’d be a 4/5. But alas, 3/5.

Great sounding record, it just sounds a little too stiff and processed at times. Appreciate how they bridged the gap between glam rock and 80s pop. Harmonies are great.

Sheffield Hair Metallers show the Americans that the Brits can do it just as well as them. Well nearly. Best Tracks: Pour Some Sugar on Me; Armageddon It; Run Riot

A fun listen.

Not as bad as I thought would be

This was okay. Every song was about one or two minutes longer than it needed to be. There's some good stuff on here though. I'm hoping I'll like Pyromania more when I listen to it. My favourite song is probably Love Bites.

Pretty forgettable, to be honest. Love hitting the snare really big, regardless of song or tempo.

I thought this would be some fun nostalgia (and on some songs it was) but really... this band kind of sucks. Having a one armed drummer whose beats are, understandably, simplistic didn't help them. 3 is pretty generous.

Det svänger katten 8)

Will need to listen again I think, sounded miles better once I put it through a different speaker

'Why can't a rockband sell a record to a Elton John or Michael Jackson-fan without losing your original market?' - Steve Clark (R.I.P) The goal of this album was very clear, make a rock album that would sell millions to a different audience than their contemporaries. And they succeeded insanely well with their hardrock bubble gum pop crossover. Incredibly catchy but with 68 minutes the album might've lost bit of filler to make it not strand into songs that are starting to sound the same in the end. But any band in this era would've loved to be able to pen something down like Gods Of War, which is the highlight of this album

Metal hell yeah

C’est à moitié « vraiment mauvais » et à moitié important et pertinent.

rocket, pour some sugar, armageddon, don't shoot

Leuk classic rock/metal album maar niks super speciaals eigenlijk

The cotton candy cone of rock. No substance. Completely devoid of all edge. Way too big, way too much. Kind of nice while you’re eating it.

Hysteria appears to have perfect production, but the compositional approach seems to be a bit restrained. I was impressed more than anything else by how American Def Leppard sounded in the eighties. That's not a dig: There's very little anyone could hope to add to the arena sound captured here. But there's little else to motivate me.

Classic 80s hair band album. Pour some sugar on me, was the most notable song on the album. At least 5 hits, basically the sound of the 80s.

Lots of classic dad rock

Every song sounded the same. So much for that 80s nostalgia

Pretty solid album surprisingly

Pretty classic rock!

Took me back to a time when I wasn’t alive but vibes were all over the place. I caught onto the impact that Def Leppard had on The Killers influence. The guitar in “Women” is sampled in Smile like you mean it.

Was fun 80s hair metal but too corny for me.

"Hysteria" is like a good Marvel movie. I doubt it's going to be a lot of people's favourite album ever, and its not the most technically or artistically complex effort, but the mass appeal Def Leppard has crafted here is undeniably appreciable. There's just something comforting about this style of big stadium glam metal, and while every track doesn't land as strongly as 'the hits' that the casual listener would be most familiar with, I was pleasantly surprised how well the album maintained my interest with over an hour run time. It's not a complicated sound, but not all music needs to be - this is the kind of music that is meant to be shouted along to by a tipsy audience on karaoke night at your local dive bar. Standout tracks: "Women", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Hysteria"

This is the cutest hard rock ever. 4 The cover looks like a Yu-Gi-Oh card. 3

corporate 80s glam rock strikes again! not quite as dark as Bon Jovi, or as immediately as catchy as AC/DC. not sure if I'd call it "good", but it sure is a spectacle!

Really enjoyed Animal

Some of these are hits but they all sound the same

This album is packed with singles and listens like a greatest hits compilation. Hysteria is Def Leopard’s finest album and the last in a series produced by Mutt Lange. The album is cohesive, and meticulously arranged. However at the end of the day it is a hair metal/pop album from a band who is trying to sound American despite their origins in Sheffield. As such, Hysteria is an over earnest, cheesy affair which is not self aware enough to be great.

It was fun for 10 minutes but then became a little exhausting.

I was surprised by how many songs I recognized

This was definitely a Def Leppard album. You can tell because it sounds exactly like you think it is going to.

I don’t think glam metal is for me.

So many hits from this 1 album! Though not much diversity.

This is one of those albums thats better in short bits. 2-3 songs at a time absolutely slaps but it definitely has that 80s sound. When this album came out I'd have been sure to give it a 5/5

it’s a fun listen with some duds

How to rate a genre I know so little about? Well it was highly polished in the production, super clean and not at all rough; the lads could play and lead vocals were strong; the clips of Reagan and Thatcher were super nostalgic and made me miss the Cold War. It was a pretty fun record which surprised me as I’d always found the idea of Def Leppard underwhelming. Maybe I’m just now that target audience? Gulp.

Yeah it’s good

Just two days ago I got my first Def Leppard album and now I get another. Once again, too long and just too bland. It's just boring forgettable 80s crap. 2.5/5

Classic Rock n Roll

Enjoyable if I'm in the mood for it. A bit irritating if I'm not

No me termina de volver loco todo el glam y este disco no es la excepción. Sí tiene buenas canciones que me quedo pero como disco no me convence porque creo que tiene mucho relleno. Sólido 3. Songs: Animal, Run Riot, Hysteria

Eh. I got bored of this pretty quick. Every song sounds basically the same. It's like ACDC.

Really up and down for me but gave it a last second third star for being fun at times

Good guitar work. Not my style.

Classic 80’s rock music, which really isn’t my cup of tea. It’s fine to have on though. Favorite song was Pour Some Sugar On Me.

Fun to listen to. A lot of the sounds are similar but works for what it is. Would listen to again.

"Skin on skin, let the love begin... women!" Wow, this album is worse than I remembered. Aged like milk.

Perfectly fine album, with a few good tracks, and a few forgettable ones. Nothing here is inherently bad though, so it's solid.

it's way fine

Not as heavy as I remember. But it’s not my go-to music.

Classic but hokey 80s

Meh Leppard

Classic 80s hair band. The songs were pretty good, but interestingly, I don't really think they hold up? I mean, they're good for their time, but I don't really see myself going out of my way to listen to this now - and I love 80s music!

Actually pretty enjoyable although there weren't any songs that totally stood out to me.

Didn't love every song but there are a few hits and I made it from beginning to end without getting the itch to skip any.

It has dated quite a bit. It is too long at over 60 mins and they were stretching it to release 7 singles. I smiled when I didnt see the lyrics on spotify; they must not have thought them worthy of posting them. 😂 they are pretty corny and the snippets of Reagan and Thatcher date this album. However it bears some re-listening. Cover art 2/5

I’m not really a fan of metal music so I can’t really add much in terms of a review. I do feel that this is a fairly good album. There are no filler tracks and all the songs appear to be lyrically and instrumentally strong. However as I don’t really enjoy the genre, I don’t really think very highly of it. I did however enjoy ‘Armegeddon’.

Absolutely ridiculous pop metal record - but it does what it sets out to do with a level of meticulous attention to detail that helps set it apart somewhat. I've got to admire, or at least gawk at, just how seriously everyone involved seems to take such a fundamentally goofy exercise. I mean, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is undeniably fun. As with the whole record, don't look too closely at the lyrics. Favourite groaner? "Are you getting it? I'm Armageddon it." No wonder so many dads go crazy for this band. My biggest complaint is the length. This album did not to be more than 35 minutes and would, I think, be much stronger with a little trimming (looking at you "Excitable"). This one's gonna mess up my algorithm, isn't it? Favourite song: "Pour Some Sugar on Me" Rating: 2.5/5

very carefully crafted and arranged - every song has a couple of twists in it - packed with singles, stadium hard rock/pop classics

Some bangers, but extremely cheesy 6/10

It was alright. 6/10

Before all of this really overblown reverse-gated reverb, there was the Def Leppard that made "On Through The Night." Back when they had an even-number of arms. This isn't my way of disparaging Hysteria. Rather, I think Def Leppard's pre-fame records buttress the feeble pure pop-metal sheen of a record like Hysteria. Like, Metallica made three shred records and then they made the Black Album. You can hate on the black album (which I think I did earlier in this list), but where does a band go when they've mastered one genre. Hopefully somewhere. In the case of Def Leppard, that place was the top of the charts. There are worse places to be. But I think "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a stupid song. I don't like that the 80s metal movement ended in a bunch of songs that had funny punchline choruses. Really tough to pick a rating for this record. I guess I'll be charitable and pick 3 instead of two. Really rounding up there. But I am because of the aforementioned history of this band, as well as the fact that this record seems to have taken the genre as far is it would ever go before Nirvana came and killed this bullshit. Also, Bon Jovi is better.

Hopefully this is the only time I have to make this joke throughout this entire experience: What has 9 arms and sucks? Def Leppard. Named for the only living thing on the planet that can stand to listen to all 60 minutes of this album, the band is Def Leppard, but their fans are Blind Sheep. Okay - I'm done. In all seriousness, They're pretty cool. I will never really understand what separates them from other bands (like Poison) that did the exact same shit during the 80s. Maybe it's just that their songs are way longer? Not better, just longer? Anyhoo, this is - by far - their best album. The hits just keep coming. Is it "good"? I don't know. Is it fun to listen to? For sure.

The epitome of hair metal. This album has some great hits (Animal & Love Bites are great) but also some meh songs. Can’t forget their drummer has 1 arm. That blows my mind.

Really good rock, but with the cheesy 80s backing.

Healthy slice of 80s power rock.

eh, other the the iconic (if cheesey now) Pour Some Sugar On Me; this didn't do much for me. Rocket is a neat song. Well produced. Probably wouldn't any of these songs off. 3*.

Blijkt dat ik toch best wel wat nummer van Def Leppard ken.

This album really helped define their sound. There are many good songs on it.

Dudes definitely rock. About 30% of the the lyrics is just YEAH!!! Pretty good overall.

Unapologetic pop rock. Sexist, dated and utterly brilliant. Of its era but a little joy.

This was ok. Like Bon Jovi, but not as good.

Surprisingly melodious. I wouldn't really put it on, it's a bit intense for my day-to-day music listening, but I enjoyed it today.

Got that sweet 80's rock sound but it couldn't hook me in.

Glossy but soulless. Still fun, though.

Do I have to? Was not really a fan back in the day. I'll give it a solid 'meh' today.

The last time I heard this, I was round at my friend Rhys’s house, playing ZX Spectrum games. He played this tape on constant rotation, because he loved it. I hated it. 30 or so years on, I didn’t hate it. It’s still not really my thing, but it’s a solid rock album, and it gets an extra star for transporting me back to happy, carefree times.

Another good 80s hair metal album. Lot's of great songs, but also a lot of songs that sound the same, and it does sound quite dated. Honestly, it could have been 20 minutes shorter and much better for it.

Like the high energy stuff. Love the ballads. There are just some absolute party rock classics. It’s dumb. It’s loud. It’s a lot of fun. Can’t say this is high art by any means but I am not going to skip Def Leppard if it comes on the radio.

Surprisingly good album, some real classics. A nice listen

If you haven't heard at least half of these songs, you've never turned on a classic rock radio station before. These songs are widely played in the US to this day, and I would be lying if I said I'm not burnt out on "Pour Some Sugar On Me" or "Love Bites." They're still bangers, and Def Leppard certainly accomplished their goal of creating an album full of hits, but after being acquainted with this record for so long I think the variety in their sound becomes thin. The 62 minute duration doesn't help either, it kind of stretches out the record more than necessary. It would have been better if they just straight up cut "Women" out and started with "Rocket", and I would say "Don't Shoot Shot Gun" is the weakest track on the record that could be cut. Maybe rearranging the track list on a playlist could spruce it up too. I never listened to "Gods of War" before this listen, and it's the sleeper. Super cool song. Overall though, this is still a fun and enjoyable album. In terms of 80's rock, it's truly different from a lot of sounds of the time due to the use of the Rockman amp and drum samples. The guitar parts weren't played to have flashy rifs, they were crafted to create beautiful harmonies. The digital audio bits and "robot-like" sounds just add another cool layer. It shows its age by trying to showoff a "sound of the future," but it still holds up. Songs I Knew: Animal, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It, Hysteria Favorite Song: Armageddon It Honorable Mention: Gods of War Least Favorite: Don't Shoot Shot Gun

Not a fan of this type of 80's rock, but it's a good album with of plenty of hits.

Vocals are hit or miss, and empty lyrics for the most part, but excellent auditory profile, specifically as hype up/ party night music

Лучшие треки: Woman, Gods of War, Hysteria Худшие: Rocket, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Don't Shoot Shot Gun

Def Leppard attempts to re-create Thriller, somehow creates album where the deep cuts are better than the singles. It’s amazing how they tried to make every track a single calibre song yet the ones actually released as a single somehow manage to be the weak tracks on the album. (Well in saying that, one or two of them are solid).

First time I've ever listened to an album by Def Leppard and I don't think I (consciously) knew any of the songs yet. But quite possibly they went into one ear and out the other. The songwriting and execution are decent enough. But the whole thing is just so cookie-cutter hard rock / accessible new wave of british heavy metal. I may not have heard these specific songs yet, but I've heard songs EXACTLY like these soooo many times. It just sounds like standard unobjectionable rock bar background music. As such, I don't mind it, but I absolutely can't get excited about it either and already forgot the songs by now.

Animal is good, otherwise it's the 80s hairy metal I generally hate.

It was pretty fun and cheesy, but i can't remember any of the songs a few hours after listening

Decent album in its genre, not great but also not too bad. It wasn't good enough to make someone who doesn't like the genre listen to all of it.

fun 80s rock

Some incredible songs but I found it hard-going for the whole hour of the album. A lot of the songs do sounds the same!

Decent

I enjoy the first half of this album more than the second. I imagine a road trip in America back in the 80s would've vibed on this album at some point. Solid album with plenty of cheesy big choruses 3*

Not as "metal" as I feared. OK, for what it is.

I've never actually listened to a Def Leppard album so it was fun diving into a classic, but it's probably not something I'd return to often.

In my opinion, their best start to finish work. I’ve always liked this one, based upon the hits, but there are also a few duds along the way.

Great skating music. I think Pour Some Sugar On Me's a tad overrated, but the other songs bring me back to the days of Footloose.

Bon jovi vibes, not great, not terrible

If you're going to pick a Def Leppard album that's 'important', the breakout "Pyromania" is the way to go - the # of hits on this one is as much a function of the momentum that came form Pyromania as it is the songs themselves - this one comes off more as watered-down glam metal/hairband.

Listen. I love some of these bops. Big Def Lep fan, but sometimes it's too much and they're not all hits alright? The hits are 5/5 but I can justify giving this album a 5 or even a 4.

Some absolute bangers.

Good, better than expected. Slightly too long and samey for me to love it though. Animal is a banger

Nice rock / hardrock album. A lot of familiair songs.

Some good, some meh. Bored by the end. thought I would like this more. 2 or 3 great songs.

This is ok. 80s hair rock. Pretty average.

Rock anos 80 feito pra ser comercial. Meio cansativo acho.

My favorite Def Leppard album for sure. but overall its not that great in the wide world of music.

It was ok

Tuttuja hittejä. Ei kyllä mun juttu, mut tän levyn osalta ymmärrän hyvin listalta löytymisen

fucking GLAM ROCK AS HELL

1987. Key Songs: Women, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Hysteria

This album made me feel like I was at a dive sports bar. Solid listen, definitely outside of my usual sound, but not bad. Obviously I was familiar with “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” so it was cool to hear some context.

This album came out during my senior of high school. So yeah, I'm familiar. It was everywhere and unavoidable. Even though I thought it was pretty sucky back then I decided to give it a fair listen to now. It's so much worse than I remember. It's just soft, cheesey, pop drivel. In my memory they were more hard rock. But there's nothing hard about this.

Adolescent 80's overproduced, cheesy, pop metal. The songs have some catchy choruses (Pour Some Sugar on Me) but are very similar in structure and gimmicky hooks. I thought I was going to enjoy this but now remember why I moved away from this genre.

I wish I was a Deaf leopard. 3/10

Horrifically bloated and not musically interesting enough to make up for it. Glam rock is already on thin ice and this is a bad example of it. Massive respect for Rick Allen though.

I’ve decided I do not like 80s hair metal. Overproduced, cringey, pop rubbish

okay album but nothing really stood out to me as anything i'd listen to again. some of the songs are too overplayed for me to enjoy anymore.

Kickass cover but. Man I won’t even call it boring or not catchy because I see why it’s so beloved just off guitar work alone, but it is an album at its best when the lyrics don’t show up. Like if you told me a horny fourteen year old boy wrote this I would entirely believe you.

Not my flavour of rock at all. Pour Some Sugar On Me is irresistible dumb fun, but I couldn't find much good will for the rest. Love Bites and Hysteria are boring dirges for such big hits, and the album could've comfortably been two or ten tracks shorter. It's so sex-obsessed that it's unintentionally hilarious, though I prefer that priapic stupidity to their attempts at heartfelt balladeering or, God forbid, political commentary.

It’s kind of amazing how an album that generated so many hit singles and sold so many copies had so little of a lasting impact.

Excruciatingly cheesy stadium rock. Sometimes sexy, but mostly cringe. I kind of enjoyed Pyromania despite its corniness, mainly because it was still close to hard rock and even packed a bit of punch. But by 1987, Def Leppard had devolved into sugary glitter rock for the masses, churning out one tacky ballad after another. Tracks like "Animal" are almost painful to listen. The whole album is so 80s that it feels like a parody of a parody, and is only saved by a couple of groovy hits. A pointless addition to the list in my opinion. 3/10

Haha, damn, Pour Some Sugar on Me .This kind of 80s glam is hard for me: cheesy one hand drumming, a typical hair metal voice, the whole thing. Still, it’s better than Pyromania and a lot of albums from the same era and scene. Still, after Appetite for Destruction and the thrash explosion, this already sounded pretty outdated.

I get such a negative gut feeling when I listen to songs from this era that are way overplayed and way overrated. No good feelings from this album whatsoever. And in fact I quit halfway through

So 80s. Has some hits, but very repetitive.

Not horrible I guess? I'll say 2.5, round down.

чё-то по большей части какой-то бон джови, если не скорпионз. не знаю как назвать. ганз н роузез. романтический рок. очень странный альбом

It sounded exactly how I expected. For an hour.

Yucky. Overproduced hair metal slop

My first listen to a Def Leppard album, and honestly I’m not very familiar with their music at all, so I went into Hysteria completely open-minded. Unfortunately, this album just isn’t for me. This kind of cliché stadium rock does very little for me and after a while it all starts to feel quite repetitive and limited. The album has big hooks and polished production, but a lot of it feels overly flashy without really saying much underneath. It comes across like music aimed at teenagers — loud, overblown and full of meaningless lyrics, extended guitar solos and tracks that go on far longer than they need to. At over an hour long, the album really drags in places and I found myself losing interest as it went on. While I can understand why it appealed to so many people commercially, there just aren’t many songs here that I’d personally want to come back to. Favourite tracks: “Rocket” was fun for spotting all the musical references and shout-outs, although it’s about five minutes too long. “Pour Some Sugar on Me” is also worth a listen Least favourite tracks: A lot of the album blends into fairly standard rock music that offers very little variety Album artwork: Lots going on here visually and very much fits the over-the-top style of the album

In a world of Iron Maiden, what's the point of this?

An incredibly disappointment. The prior three albums were all much better than this money grab. Pop.

I’m not normally a fan of Def Leppard so I never expected to like this album, it was ok though. Fav song is ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’.

Why is this album 1 hour long?

They can write a decent singalong-able hook, but there's basically nothing else to offer. Mostly boring stadium rock

Gah, hair metal at it's near-worst, vaguely tolerable in small amounts ⭐⭐

It's incredibly cheesy 80s glam rock/hair metal about sex, sex, and more sex. But it's not...awful. It's just not particularly good either.

Very mediocre save the couple of hits. I can't believe two Def Leppard albums made it on this list.

No ei oikein parhaimpia kasari rock levyjä vai onko meta

What a steaming pile of glossy bullshit. Honestly, this album has excellent album art but that’s about the only thing I like about this album. This really needed to be over an hour dudes? Like you really thought this was all great? I get it, it was 1987 but I’ve listened to enough 80’s music to know that there was much better 80’s music available, even if we are only talking 80’s hair metal. This sounded like the same song over and over again with “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Gods of War” was actually kinda ok. When you compare this to their counterparts of their time, they simply lack the punch or flair of the Van Halen’s or AC/DC, heck I’ll even put Motley Crüe miles ahead of this listless, flat rock. This was dumb and not dumb fun, just dumb and I hate it. 2 stars

Pyromania was like Wayne's World. Hysteria is like Wayne's World after the guy from Noah's Arcade takes over. Over produced, takes itself way too seriously, too long, and just overall not fun.

I am a late 70's 80's rock guy - that was the sweet time growing up. , Prime is '75-85, but after that it changes fast. and not all for the best. Def Leppard should have been a one-hit album band with "Pyromania". They are indicative of the swift decline of 80's music.

There was nothing wrong with it but it didn't make me feel anything. None of the songs left an impression besides Gods of War which itself isn't even a great song. Musical equivalent of breakfast tv

i dont really like glam too much and lord was this long

Radio music

dont get me wrong, but this album isn’t that great, compared to Pyromania. every song, there’s a different section that goes a little too long that’s just synthesizers going crazy. I love Pyromania, but i just can’t sit still long enough for this one.

Couldn’t get through it. Always disliked Def Leppard and their contemporaries, enjoyed pour some sugar on me and then the rest was an overproduced boredom fest

Dont care

A slightly less polished Bon Jovi with more of a testosterone overdose in the lyrics.

2.5. I wore this cassette out in 2nd grade but it doesn't really hold up tbh. Also, kinda wild that this was considered "Hard Rock" back then.

I can’t be doing with Def Leppard but surprisingly there were a good few tracks on here that I enjoyed. Problem was that there was no middle ground, the ones I didn’t enjoy I really didn’t like. I probably could’ve stretched to threes stars but my God do I hate Pour Some Sugar On Me. That cost it a star as soon as it started. Top Track - Armageddon It

This was far too long for a band with this number of tricks. It's a an excellent example of 80s hair rock, hits all the tropes. Felt a bit less creepy than some of the others we've had but still very much over the top and silly. Feel like it isn't tongue in cheek though. Had the big song I suppose and there are some riffs I don't mind but it's landfill hair rock.

Pour Some Sugar On Me is by far the best track here, the rest are middling, light arena rock. Didn't know they are British. Produced by Mutt Lange, ex-husband and producer for Shania Twain. Once I read that, I can hear Shania singing all of the songs here. Even Pour Some Sugar sounds a bit like That Don't Impress Me Much. Sparse, marching drums. Loads of echo, overdubbing, and the like. Are Def Leppard Shania Twain in disguise? Good album though, to be fair, Come On Over. My mum would have it on in the kitchen all the time when I was growing up. Loads of memorable tracks - the downbeat You're Still The One and From This Moment On, and the upbeat Man I Feel Like A Woman and Honey I'm Home. 2 stars.

I actually think pour some sugar on me is a really good glam stadium rock song. Encapsulates that kind of rock for me. The rest of this album was fairly bad though. Probably exactly what I expected. Hysteria was ok, but I think pour some sugar is all that is needed from this album

Not intolerable but also not good

Inevitable pull after a hot streak of good albums for about a week. It’s all style and no substance. Much like edm in the mid 2010’s, rock music at Hysteria’s time seemed saturated and played out, taken to its logical conclusion of “louder = better”. “Love Bites” almost had a nice sweet more tender moment, but it didn’t do nearly enough to redeem this thing. This album is one of the first time whwre heard a song on this list I used to listen to all the time through my parents playing it on the radio and I didn’t get a greater appreciation for it. Which is strange, because this whole project is mixed and mastered super well, but there’s nothing beneath its electronic arena rock facade. Once again a rule is proven true, this is an album my coworkers like, so naturally it’s a 2/5

I mean, guess its good for its time or genre, but as some reviewers said here, that's exactly what i don't like about rock music - arena rock, hair-rock, anthems and stuff like that. Some Kiss songs, more metal like Pantera or at least fun lyrics, like Alice Cooper (he is not that arena/anthemy tho), but this is definitely not my jam. Music is very authentic to the genre and the 80s, reminds me of 80s movie songs, like You Are The Best Around, maybe a bit of Kansas (i like Kansas more tho).

Not good. Way too long

Hair metal ballads are interminable. The classic rock radio stations have it right: stick to Pour Some Sugar on Me.

The summer of 1987 saw me working in New York state, my first trip out of Europe. So my cassette version of Hysteria was bought in somewhere like Saratoga Springs pretty much as soon as I saw it – I'd struggled to find a copy of Pyromania in my small UK town, and High n Dry had needed a trip to London I think. No one, I confidently stated to my workmates, will have heard this at home... So, I got back to Animal riding high in the charts and everyone telling me that "that band you've been going on about are famous now". So, I was a bit of a Def Leppard fan back in the late 80s. I even saw them on the Hysteria tour (couldn't hear a bloody thing for days). But, and let's be clear about this, Pyromania is a much, much better album than this. High n Dry is too (I've never really been taken by On Through the Night which had defeated me finding it back then). Maybe it's the over-production or the slightly parody version of themselves the band had become by then. Maybe it's MTV. Maybe it lacks Pete Willis. Maybe it's just too fucking American rather than the NWOBHM stuff that I prefer from this era. Maybe it's just too poppy for me, even nearly 40 years later. I've not listened to Hysteria for years probably, and that cassette has certainly been jettisoned somewhere along the way. So it was, err, "interesting" to come back to this. And I don't really like it very much. It is over-engineered. Nowadays it would be packaged for social media I suppose, which would probably make it even worse. But it's still just not very good I'm afraid. Yeah, there were 7 singles from it. You know what, I don't fucking care. Beyond Animal which has some merits, they're mainly shite – and, for what it's worth, you can stick Pour Some Sugar on Me up your arse; it's a terrible, terrible song. I understand why the album is on the list. Yes, people should listen to it to understand what was going on. It has some historical merit and reflects a time at least. And I have some lingering fondness for it. So, how I can I give this any more than 2? In some ways it deserves 1, but the band themselves seem largely decent people who have maintained their roots and I respect that. But I can't imagine I'd ever listen to this again I'm afraid. For the record, Pyromania will probably get a 4. Quite how Hysteria has a higher overall rating on here I'm really not sure. I imagine it's down to too much air play on American rock radio.

Just annoying

Album No. 0180 on my list. *Sigh* Another Def Leppard album on this list. I'm always conflicted about these 1980s hair metal albums. Sometimes I like them pretty well (Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" was actually the first album I've ever bought, I'll tell the story when I get to review that album), but mostly I find this overtly masculine, intense hard rock stuff with the occasional power ballad pretty annoying. And "Hysteria" is not an exception. Yeah, it's not fully bad, but it's also not something I'd want to listen to on a regular basis. It's just a little too much. Too much cliche, too much masculinity, too much hair metal. I get why this is considered an important rock album of the 80s and it certainly deserves its spot here, but I'm just not a big fan personally. I'll add "Pour Some Sugar On Me", and "Armageddon It" to my playlist. 2/5 stars.

Hørt på morgenen, det blir litt for bonat for meg. Etter monsterhiten Pour some sugar on me måtte jeg faktisk kaste inn håndkleet. Jeg skjønner at dette var sykt fett en gang, jeg har bare ikke lyst å høre på det.

Nah, I'm sorry

I just can't with the 80's hair metal. My least favorite genre. 2/5

I think I just realized why I never got into hair/glam rock. I don't like musicals. Glam rock is just a musical that's "rockin' out!". Too much emoting throws it into the uncanny valley of emotion and it just feels forced or fake. This time, though, I'm gonna throw on an extra star for Pour Some Sugar On Me, cause it's just a fun song

Dang, I always thought Def Leppard must be cool because the T-shirts were popular. This was hard to listen to and I couldn't finish it. It's arena rock but it lacks the musical ambition to deserve the sound. So polished, overly sanitized and processed, it loses any soul the recordings once had. I'm sad to be this negative but I really didn't like it. Usually singles can prop up an album, but I don't even care for "pour some sugar on me", it's a nothing sandwich with no staying power. Wholly disappointed.

3.5/10

This was not for me. I know and own Pour Some Sugar On Me. I recognized Animal and Hysteria. I did not like Joe Elliot’s voice.

NWOBHM sellouts Ok so that's a bit hard. If I had a band, went across the pond, and got offered truckloads of money and girls then I'd probably sell my soul too. There's a couple of strong songs on this album, but after Animal it all gets very samey - hair, shoulder pads, reverb, and vocal harmonies. All very stateside sellout. Guys, you're from the steel city For Fuck's Sake! Have some self respect! The drum sound is poor. And I'm gonna get controversial here... When I go to gigs, I like to watch a good drummer. I don't want to see a one armed guy on a Mouse Trap Game kit. The band deserve some credit for looking after their mate - but maybe just give him a percentage and get someone else that can do a proper job. Sorry. Harsh. Not strong enough to be classed as Dad rock. Mom rock yes. Bored.

Aerosmith and Leppard on consecutive days; what did I do to deserve this?

Proof that like Ghostbuster streams, rock and pop should never be crossed. Great choruses but nothing to chew on. Can't see me picking this up again. That'll be 2* then.

Not bad by any stretch, just not my cup of tea. Got some bangers though

I acknowledge that this is legendary, titanic, chart-topping, baby-making butt rock. It is butt rock nonetheless.

Light 2,5

Classic 80s rock which unfortunately I am not a fan of. I say unfortunately not because I regret my taste but because this was an hour long album.

They were on the radio all the time growing up. I consider them neutral but not my cup of tea.

This one might not have been my thing, or maybe I just wasn't in the right mood when I listened to it

Hair metal is low on my list of genres. This album is no exception, in fact the cheesy over production makes it worse. There are some admittedly some great guitar riffs mixed in here, but even these seem overly dramatic. Music this cheesy really shouldn’t take itself this seriously. My opinion on this one is very likely clouded by the kids in high school who the Def Leppard logo on their tennis shoes, which was decidedly not my crowd. It gets an extra star because it objectively not unlistenable, just very much not for me.

I've just never been a Def Leppard fan...just not great to me.

Maybe hair metal was a mistake

Has 9 arms, sucks

It’s a cliche hair band metal rock album. It’s okay.

62 minutes of guitar noise and screaming. I clearly still haven't recovered from my sister playing this nonstop in 1987.

Generic, cheesy, cliched, outdated, stale, irrelevant dad rock.

Not great, honestly. Kind of overrated?

I see the appeal, but I didn’t care for it

I appreciate that they have a unique “sound” but after a while all the tracks start to “sound” the same, which is the “sound” of flipping through the channels on cable tv in the 90s.

Neitakk

Safety scissors rock

No standouts

Corny og overproduceret, frygtelig anstrengende sanger, ugudeligt lang. Meget generøs 2'er fordi jeg godt kan lide Animal og synes et par af numrene egentlig er meget sjove

Never been a big fan of this band, but had never listened to anything beyond the radio hits. Still not a fan.

I’ve known the name Def Leppard forever but the only song I know is Pour Some Sugar On Me which is extremely cheesy but fine. Pretty much sums up this album it was inoffensive but I forgot about it as soon as it finished. Playlist track: Excitable

Not as good as the other one. But hard to say, I think this is an album depending on its environment; I think listening on a Walkman in the 80s in the Summer time would change my opinion.

Did not finish. As much as I do think Def Leppard is one of the better glam rock bands, they're still a glam rock band and so much of this subgenre sounds exactly the same. I get the vibe and I think if you were having a party or pregaming to go out this kind of music can hit, but it's sorely outdated and monstrously overproduced. Even with skipping through the big songs I already knew, I couldn't get through over an hour's worth of Def Leppard.

Is there any artistic substance here? Any expression of genuine emotion or human experience? To me it sounds like the culmination of a business plan. Which makes sense, because it's a Mutt Lange production. After Back in Black his M.O. seems to have been finding acts who had chops - performative talent - but no musical sensibility or vision. (Listen to Def Leppard's first album (or Shania Twain's first) and tell me if you hear anything exciting, or promising there.) Then he would make these rice-cakes-drenched-in-simple-syrup and sell them by the millions. (He was also a colossal hypocrite; espousing in his personal life a sanctimonious anti-materialist spiritualism (read: cult leader vibe) while producing the most materialistic, non-spiritual drivel and passing it off as art.) These songs are so unabashedly-dopey-pop they could be Bay City Rollers covers. One hook repeated ad nauseam through a sonic wall of glitz and shimmer. The performances are as boring as the songs. Lange's style of production seems designed to iron all authenticity and individuality out of his musicians - to use them as mere patches on a Synth. (Run Riot hints that the band could actually be modestly interesting and/or exciting. Too bad it stands alone.) But I guess he gets the last laugh. He set out to make radio hits and make radio hits he did. Sheeple of the late 80s binged on these cynical-sounding sugar-coated shit-patties; Which is depressing. On the positive side, I think Def Leppard is a GREAT band name. It puts these lads in a category with Spin Doctors and (Michael McDonald era) Doobie Brothers: horrible bands with fantastic names.

I’m saying 2 but I liked it more than I thought I would. The guitar tone was incredible. Legit loved it. Also way fewer guitar solos than I’d expect on a record like this. I think I counted only 1! The snare was waaaaayyyyyy too boomy/roomy. I know that was the sound of the day, but it sounded sorta clowny there.

I destroyed this cassette tape from overplaying back in 5th grade. It’s really not good. Thank the grunge gods for ending this era and saving me. Even still, when these jams come on you will find me solo arm air drumming the whole way through.

Starts high, ends high—but ya girl prefers a build ✅✅ Hysteria

Oof I thought I liked Def Leppard until I listened to an hour of Def Leppard.

esq me aburro

This album would be good if Joe Elliott would shut the fuck up for 10 seconds.

not a big fan of glam rock/hair metal, especially not in this era couple of decent songs but nothing outstanding

Holy glaze I can’t feel anything rlly good from this 5/10 2025/12/30

Gta vice city vibes. Snoepje

This style gets so boring for me.

Highly polished big dumb rock. Some memorable melodies: the chorus of Animal, the pre-chorus of Love Bites (I don’t want to touch you too much baby…)

80s. I like the song before pour some sugar on me.

Hard rock is a misnomer

I dont get nostalgia from this which I feel like is a requirement for enjoyment

Hair metal is really not a genre of rock I'm into, and this did little to change my opinion on it. Some interesting bits of music scattered around, but I found it really hard to distinguish most of the songs from one another

I enjoyed Pyromania a decent bit but this one didn't click. I think it's a bit too over-the-top for my liking. It's just a bit of harmless fun, nothing too serious. Rating: 2.5

Thoroughly meh. You can tell an enormous amount of effort has been poured into the album but for what end? Hysteria is all dull hair-metal, forgettably bland lyrics and underwhelming riffs - perhaps the title is ironic. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. fav tracks: Run Riot

"The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm!" - thank you, Blood Hound Gang! Mullets- mullets everywhere! But seriously, I have never jammed an album of Def Leopard's before. haha- butt rock! Glad I listened, but can't say I enjoyed it.

This sound is just really dull to me. I considered giving it a 3 because I was enjoying some of the riffs and everything, but it all just went on too monotonously for too long for me to award it more than a 2.

Sucks monkey junk

If you were to ask AI to come up with a prototypical 80s stadium rock album, it would probably throw something like this back at you. Catchy hooks, gang vocals, and lyrics that walk the line between misogynistic and just plain silly (“Armageddon it? Yes, I’m a-getting it.”). Full disclosure, I owned this album back in the day and thought it was pretty cool. Listening to it now, I waver between an amused nostalgia and an irritation that a lot of the albums I left this for are not on this list.

fine, wasn't really paying attention

The eighties were a difficult time for some artists. I like rock, it's my favorite genre, but this album just doesn't work for me.

Never expected to listen to a Def Leppard album. Agreed, the guitar tone is beautiful. So, better than I expected.

I didn't expect to like this album and indeed I do not. A full hour of this was way too long for me. It's basic, incredibly cheesy, and the lyrics are not that interesting or creative. There's so much dumb, obvious innuendo. I have heard Pour Some Sugar On Me many times and have never enjoyed it. I actually don't mind other similar rock bands like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, etc. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for the bands I listened to as a kid and Def Leppard wasn't one of them? Though I'd say there's definitely something about their sound that I just don't like. The album could be worse so I will give it a 4/10.

There was a brief time in my life when I would tell people that my least favorite genre was classic rock. I've only recently come to the realization that "classic rock" isn't actually a genre, but more of an umbrella term used by radio stations to signal that they primarily play rock & roll from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. That said, I actually have enjoyed my fair share of classic rock albums from bands like Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alice Cooper (partially thanks to the Generator), but Def Leppard may very well be the perfect representation of what I previously imagined the "genre" to be. In other words, I didn’t particularly enjoy Hysteria. The lyrics on the album haven’t aged well and its music has aged even worse – it’s very much a product of its time and features many of the elements that This Is Spinal Tap mocked three years earlier. However, the biggest issue I have with Hysteria isn’t that it sounds dated – it’s that the songs just aren’t that compelling or memorable. Coming off of Supergrass’ debut album yesterday, this one just sounds so slow and bland by comparison. Even the album’s biggest hit ("Pour Some Sugar on Me") honestly didn’t do much for me. I don’t want to be all negative here, though – after all, two stars isn’t the worst rating I could have given Hysteria. "Women" was a pretty decent opening track and I enjoyed the "Gods of War" foreshadowing that was cleverly hidden in "Rocket." "Gods of War" might be the only track on the album attempting to say something (even if it’s a bit surface level), so I can appreciate that Def Leppard put in some effort to build up to it! All in all, Hysteria wasn’t really my thing and I’m doubtful there will be many glam metal Book Albums I end up rating highly (although Slippery When Wet is likely a shoo-in), but at least now I know which type of “classic rock” I can probably stay away from. We’ll see if Pyromania fares any better! Highlights: Women, Rocket, Gods of War

Not for me

Despite my hate for Def Leppard I have to admit there are a couple good songs on here. They’re just surrounded by shit.

p566. 1987. 2 stars. Aerosmith lite. Generic stadium rock with a couple of decent songs. Pass.

No es lo mío, me ha empezado a gustar a partir de pour some sugar on me, Armaggedon me está gustando.Gods of war no está mal, Hysteria la mejor del álbum, de ahí adelante love and affection.

I hated this in 1987 and still hate it in 2025. But what’s worse is I may hate the people who like this more than I hate the music itself.

Def Leppard are enjoyable in smaller doses, but they are not Top 1001 winners.

Not my cup of tea

I really don’t like this. First of all, it’s way too long. I could grow a beard listening to this and I’m a woman. Too many tracks that are too similar for each one to be this long. And I’m not against long songs. But there’s nothing interesting about these ones, they tire you out. If I were to listen to a singular song at random from this album, there’s a good chance I would give it three stars. But put together this just can’t reach three stars for me. I suppose it’s catchy but it’s awfully tacky. It’s what I imagine the 80s in America to be like. Except they’re english. Shit.

Enjoyable 80s hard rock. Pour Some Sugar on Me always a classic and fun song. Wouldn't really say this something that great or special compared to many of the other albums. It was also pretty long of a record with some okay tracks in it.

As I listened to this, I was trying to figure out why, back in the day, I liked Pyromania (can still listen to that one, albeit with a bit of nostalgia) but I always disliked Hysteria and pretty much everything that came after it. Then it hit me - Def Leppard had by this point become a pop band with slightly louder guitars. There's no rawness (not that Pyromania was particularly raw). The whole album feels sterile and produced-to-death. You could change out the vocalist and release it as a Bon Jovi album.

I don't care for Def Leppard
