The good: by far the best one-armed drumming performance I've ever listened to. I always felt he should have a prosthetic arm with a permanently twirling drum stick. I kinda like Love Bites. The bad: a lot of the lyrics are aggressively bad. It makes me remember how very much EVERYWHERE this album was for years when I was in high school. It seemed to linger far, far too long for the quality of the music. The rest: Mediocre arena rock, but it's broadly bland enough to appeal to lots of folks who don't like to think about their music all that much. Or listen too closely. Now that I think of it, perhaps this set the template for modern Country! Pyromania is a MUCH better DL album.

I unironically love the guitar tone on this album. There is something about the palm-muted staccato runs, wide vibrato on bends and whammy-bar dive-bombs that just scratches an itch nothing else can. I have heard Pour Some Sugar On Me too many times to be able to enjoy it anymore, but the rest of the album was pretty fun to listen to in the background. Track picks for me are Women, Hysteria, and Gods Of War.

I thought this album was decent. It had some good songs on it. But a lot felt really similar and a lot of them felt pretty poppy to me

This sounded like I just listened to power 97 for an hour and 2 minutes. But with that being said it did make me want to grab a leather jacket, some hairspray, and some ripped jeans and a lighter and wave it around in the air (the lighter not the jeans). This was 80s rock to its core, Tres Clasique, either love it or hate it. I sit somewhere in the middle. Due to some of the songs like Pour some sugar on it or whatever, just kinda annoying. I guess its still undeniably a classic song, just overplayed to shit within media, so its kinda ruined for me. Can almost hear the New York Dolls (#Throwback) a bit within their sound, maybe Def got hit with some trickle down effect of their music, or perhaps even some direct inspo. Love Bites was 100% my favorite, so good! The buildup and then the payoff, like WHAM BHAM thank you MAM. I DONT WANT TO TOUCH YOU TOO MUCH BABBBEYYY, just makes me want to belt out to the heavens, like cmonnnn. Also their drummer has one arm?!?! That deserves some bonus points. 7/10

I always thought Def Leppard was way more metal than this, didn’t know they were this soft glam rock group. This works great at an 80s themed party, but not really anything I’d put on for serious listening. ’Pour some sugar on me’ is something everyone has heard, and has a catchy chorus, no doubt. ’Hysteria’ was an unexpectedly good rock ballad as well, but in the end it’s just not my jam so hard to judge entirely. Strong 3 for what it is feels reasonable?

Man, this felt so formulaic—over-polished, overproduced, and very repetitive. The lyrics are questionable (maybe not metal’s strong suit), with all the chanting, etc. It also felt quite samey. I read somewhere that this album produced a lot of singles, which doesn’t surprise me, but all the singles sound the same. I put this on at the gym because I thought it would be a good fit. I wouldn’t recommend listening to Love Bites while lifting— the cringe of “When you make love, do you look in your mirror? Who do you think of? Does he look like me?” was just too much. It wasn’t all bad; their formula does work at times. “Pour Some Sugar on Me” is a good song, and “Hysteria” stood out to me too. Middle-of-the-road 3. I can see why thrash took over soon after this.

Great album and an all time classic, probably one of Def Leppard's best.

Wouldn't put it on but enjoy hearing the singles on the radio enough. A cassette of this and Queen's Night at the Opera got me through some boring supermarket shifts once upon a time.

Not usually a big fan of this hair metal type stuff bit this wasn’t bad and even Jess said it’s not bad

It's stupid and fun and a total cartoon.

I want to start paying more attention to these albums because my head's in the gutter - I think this was good? Maybe? Starting to blend together a bit with every album on either side, and I think that's maybe a reflection of the music but mostly one of me

One long song

The kind of rock I like. 3.5/5

80s rock is not my thing but this was alright

No private session used for Spotify. I remember when this overhyped album came out, it was everywhere and it sickened me. It's not there best work, that being Pyromania, it brought Def Leppard to the masses with quite literally sugary rock songs with keyboards. Now that I have said that, and am listening to it, it is a lot of fun. Oh yes, Def Leppard, two words, they couldn't spell either correctly.

Guilty pleasure.

Better than Coldplay

This is probably the most 80's sounding album I have ever heard (derogatory). It sounds really dated, but it was big at the time. Mid 3.

Well, they were certainly a force back in the 1980s, so it's hard to question this selection on the 1001 albums list. They weren't my cup of tea, but I can't deny they were at the top of the heavy metal hair band pyramid in their time. Watching their videos today, though, they definitely give off a Spinal Tap vibe.

Most succesful album of the Hard-Rock dinosaurs.

Huge, anthemic, loud, stupid. The riffs, when they're actually present, are a ton of fun, both for me and (presumably) for Def Leppard. The run of tracks Pour Some Sugar On Me / Armageddon It / Gods Of War is heavily riff-focused, and to good effect. Part of the latter's riff reminds me (tragically) of the main guitar tune from ABBA's Voulez-Vous. A lot of the songs don't have any interesting musical elements to make the listener come back for a second run-through. Run Riot and Excitable are two examples. They really don't live up to their respective names. Regarding the song Hysteria: Muse did it much better, but this version's still alright. All of side 1 is pretty good, explaining why all six tracks were released as singles. As a (technically) first-time listener of Def Leppard, I'm tempted to say they come off as a knock-off Guns N' Roses. The two bands sound pretty similar. Both are the easily-dismissable "hair rock" that swamped the 80s popular music scene. So clearly these guys are trend-followers, and since it's a bad trend (as agreed by most listeners), and they do it noticeably worse than Guns N' Roses, I can't really give this a 5. Knock it down to a 3, actually, because the album took up much more of my evening than it had business doing. The tracks drag on, solo after solo, chorus after chorus... The shortest track, Animal, is still a bit of a slog at over 4 minutes, and the album in its entirety is over an hour. You need prog-rock levels of slow, interesting musical ideas to justify that. 3/5 Key tracks: Rocket, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It

Gear: Dunu SA6 Artwork: ─⃤🖥️😲 Production (2017 Remaster): 👊🤑👍 Music: 🧑‍🎤🏟️🏔️ Rating: 🐆🐆🐆/5

Yeah it's ok, produced to the max pop rock that has its moments and also is too sterile at times.

Ok, so Rock of Ages blew my ears off when I heard it first week of middle school (6th grade). I loved, loved, loved that song. This album produced a number of major hits - no doubt a major part of 1980s radio and culture. I must say my taste for this music remains back in the 6th grade. This album is better than Pyromania and can be fun but is too tedious, too much over produced fluff, has nothing to say. Nostalgia value earns it a point. 3/5

OK they may not be Sweet, but I do quite like these guys 😅💪

Is it generic? Yes! Is it a bad listen? No?

Fengende puddelrock. Dabber av litt mot slutten.

A very middle of the road hair metal album with some frankly cooked production choices. Pour Some Sugar On Me is fucking massive though. 3.1/5.0 Best Song: Pour Some Sugar On Me

Black sabbath aah rock

Solid album. I like the brash, strong energy. Listened to it while mowing and it was really hitting.

De primeiro momento, achei que seria um hard metal, mas no momento que dei play, percebi que era um rock. A música tem uma batida boa, estilo Every Breath You Take. Lembra MUITO EBYT Me faz sentir como se estivesse ouvindo nos anos 80, sentada no capô do carro e ouvindo com aqueles disco. Ai agora eu to dirigindo no carro azul, música na rádio e eu vibrando.

Probably my least favorite genre of rock is '80's Hair Metal. This is just not for me. And Pour Some Sugar on Me sucks Best Song: Animal Rating: 5/10 Stars: 3

I've been trying to figure out how to enjoy this unironically and it turns out that I'm too much of a smug douchebag to do so. Three stars!

Really enjoyed this throwback album to my youth. Wasn’t a fan of a lot of 80s glam/hair rock, but these guys were prolific. This album is full of everyday plays from then.

I know everyone expect me to hate this album. When you find the right hair/heavy metal band, there's a kind of weird sincerity to it. I'd like to hope that all members have agreed that they weren't really that cool. I like to hope there is a bit of embarrassment for the mass of shredders in cover bands with Zoom multifx pedals. I did actually watch (without even knowing any song on the album) a documentary on this album when I was sixteen. I remember being vaguely impressed that they tried hard to vary the guitar parts (all three of them!) across each song so that they each played a different part (wild for 16 year old me, trust me!). Each song played with aggressiveness, but there is kind of a catchiness that cancels out the stuff I don't really like. Hysteria was a good example of this. Pour Some Sugar on Me is a bit crud, but I found a few high points. Not enough to admit to anyone I was listening to it... 3 stars. Don't tell anyone.

This is like the time your close friend broke up with his girlfriend. He is devastated, but you are delighted cos you always thought she was a drag, and when they were dating he would never come out and party with you. Now it is the weekend, and it is your duty to lift him out of the mire of sadness and self-loathing that he has enveloped himself in. How do you do this though? Pretty simple really. Get a couple of your other close friends together, and get cross-eyed drunk. You all get dressed up in your best clothes. Denim vests, tight jeans, and more Lynx Africa body spray than the Surgeon General would ever approve. You're gonna go out and get wrecked. You're gonna go to the busiest night clubs, and you are gonna walk in like you own the show. Will everyone notice you? Of course. Will all the lads in the bar wish they could be like you? Obviously. Will every girl in the bar immediately lust for you? Duh. Will they get a chance to try and tame one of you wild stallions? Absolutely not. This is a night of brash, loud, arrogant fun. You'll show up at the club, you'll drink more vodka than the rest of the bar combined, you'll become the envy of everyone in the room, and you'll leave without ever seeing anyone again. Then you'll go to the White Lady Diner for a cheap burger where the four of you will discuss how great each of you are.

Trump has started gold plating everything in the Whitehouse. McDonalds sells a double big mac. A Ford F150 doesn't even get near the top 10 list of biggest pick up trucks. We live in a time of excess and Hysteria, despite coming out 38 or so years ago, fits perfectly into this world. Excessive production, vocals dubs, big guitars, striking drums. It is peak hair metal pushed to its limits. I'd cry if I googled the budget for this album. And the problem with excess is it usually comes off as tacky. That is the case here. It doesn't feel authentic. There is no real soul or passion. This is music tailored to sell big. Trying to find meaning and depth to the lyrics is like trying to figure out why Christopher Luxon thought it was a good use of tax payer money to fly himself and Albanesr to the top of a mountain for a photo opp. If you want to hear the album that killed hair metal and brought forth Grunge, Thrash, Alternative, then this is it. 3 stars as despite all this the title track, Hysteria, rips.

I will give credit where it's due for the impact the album made but I won't be listening to this album again.

the leopard is pretty good at singing for being deaf. also this is NOT hysteria by muse. still solid. 6/10

I enjoyed it

I came into this knowing: a) Def Leppard was hugely popular; b) among music knowers, they're considered better than a lot of their contemporaries/comparators (Poison, Tesla, RATT, etc.); and c) the hits on this albums ("Love Bites" "Pour Some Sugar on Me" "Hysteria") and Pyromania. I groaned when this came up and expected to find myself plodding through some tedious buttrock that I'm superior to. And... I actually really liked a lot of it. I think the lyrics are dumb, and I don't really like the singing voice either, but I get it. Some of the tracks I may have never heard ("Don't Shoot Shot Gun" "Run Riot") are buttrock, but kickass buttrock. It's overproduced, but in a way that actually really suits the music. It's... kinda good? I'm sort of amazed this is what I've concluded.

Individually each song is fine but as an album, it palls after a while and by the end I was glad it was over.

Quite a few good songs, but the album is tarnished by the slick production and overall softness. Also, outside of the singles, there isn’t much to root for. Album is at least 20 minutes too long

This might have been the first CD I ever purchased? It really sounded unbelievable back in the day. But man, it's not something I need to come back to.

def leppard is my favorite hair metal band but this album is still mainly carried by the singles

75/100 some incredible songs and the rest is just pretty good

so easy to listen idk right for this moment

I hate “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” so I fully expected to hate the album as a whole, but it actually wasn’t bad. It’s basically the music equivalent of junk food. When you think of the most cliché, basic “rock,” this is the sort of thing that comes to mind - and I truly don’t mean that as a slight against the album. It’s effective, and it’s fun. Too long, though.

Blast from the past 7/10

80s quasi hard rock masterpiece. If it was 1989 I'd have probably given this 5 stars but having not listened for 2 decades it just didn't sound anywhere as good as I remembered. I waffles between 3 and 4 but I had to resist the urge to skip tracks more than normal so went 3.

3/5. Production value is crazy good here, and the stadium choruses work really well in each song. The main downside here is the length of the album. Yes, it goes hard in each song, but I do lose track as each one has similar riffs and repeated drums. They would really benefit from trying different time signatures and making their music a little more complex, it seems like they have the skill. But I guess there is skill in making catchy and accessible music. Plus the slower metal ballads break the continuation for the better. Best Song: Pour Some Sugar On Me, Hysteria, Women

Not as good as Pyromania, but better than later stuff.

Some real hits. But the album, as a whole, didn't gel for me.

pas spectaculaire j’ai l’impression d’être dans une annonce de motos J’aime bien Don’t Shoot Shot Gun

OK'ish heavy pop

Dated and cheesy, but not hard to listen to. And I’m an absolute sucker for Pour Some Sugar on Me.

Some of the most dated, corny, hilarious music there is. But I love it.

I’ll start off by saying that the album cover is way too metal looking for their sound. But this is a solid 80s rock album that I enjoyed front to back. I had a hard time not picturing their one armed drummer absolutely mashing throughout the entire album. (3.5/5) Favorite tracks: - Animal - Pour Some Sugar On Me - Hysteria (Muse?!)

I don't feel anything about it and I'm too bored to listen to it till the end

Fun to listen. Has some really good radio hard Rock tunes. Can't fault Def Leppard for doing that. 3/5

Liked better then other Def Leppard album

Better than expected but sometimes doesn't live up to it's own promise. Hysteria is hardly hysterical

80s hair band to the max, which isn't my genre in the slightest. It doesn't do anything for me which puts it in the 3 category for me.

Straightforward power rock pop. Big hair, check. (Wait--what's with the bald guy?) Two guitars, check. Generally avoided a collapse into being a ballad band that befell other groups. Would have been even better if they had been Australian as they no doubt are in an alternate universe somewhere.

-i was not thrilled to listen to this tbh. i thought it would be cheesy and gauche. i was kind of right? but i did end up enjoying a lot of it -it’s far from the best hair metal i’ve ever heard, which i suppose isn’t the highest bar for me. but i can really appreciate the energy and cultural impact something like this would have in the 80s -Favorites are Animal and Gods Of War

Yeah I didn’t really know them apart from name. Very 80s sounding, I feel like if I had listened to it as a kid it would have felt very nostalgic, maybe it reminded me of something I did listen to as a kid. I don’t know. Probably not my favourite tbh

Oh yes just what I’m always wanting to listen to…more butt rock.

Alkupuoli erinomaista poppis/glam rockia, mutta levyn toinen puolikas alkaa vähän toistaa itseään. 3/5

Alright

This was a ridiculously consistent album, and that's what they intended, but that's the problem. It's too much. Every song is trying it's hardest to be a big single and it's exhausting. Not all are as good as one another. I ynom Love Bites was most enjoyable and I can see myself listening to that and a few others like Hysteria again but it's a bit much and a bit bland for an hour.

Listening to this made me realize that I have heard more Def Leppard songs than just 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' (which is a certified banger.) I'm less of a fan of the ballads, but I enjoyed this album much more than I thought I would.

Very polished, very 80s stadium rock. Though not much of the emotional depth or grit that makes music enduring or interesting remains left from Mutt Lange's production process. Oh well, I'm sure the memories this album evokes are more interesting, at least, than the album itself, sonically.

Nothing special, nice enough.

Fun, albeit a little dated, album with an annoying amount of filler.

Not really a fan of this but nothing really bad here either

Good for the genre.

Se nota el paso del tiempo, ha envejecido regular. Baja nota en la grabación y producción.

I'm not the biggest hair metal fan, but I enjoyed quite a few of the songs on this record. I was also surprised most of the songs are 4-6 minutes long. I guess people's attention spans could handle it back then.

There were more songs on here that I liked than I expected. But it was still just pretty generic hair metal that could probably have stayed in the 80s. Pour some sugar on me is an all timer tho

Like many other 60 year old white American men, I enjoy some Def Leppard. Unfortunately this is not their best work. Pyromania is the apotheosis of the slick Mutt Lange iteration of the band while On Through the Night showcases the rough and ready version.

Let me paint a picture for you. 1985 Buick century. 2 tone, tan and brown. Windows down. Hysteria on the cassette player. 16 year old me loving life. Some real bangers here, in the 80s and 90s, I love them, but I'm not sure they've aged super well. Doesn't matter, still know all the words to put some sugar on me.

I liked this better than expected. Still, a lot of the songs were too long, the album was too long, and I won’t bother listening to it again. 3 stars.

Good overall. Felt like a mix of AC/DC, Bond Jovi and Bryan Adams. Felt a little bit similar in the second half, and certain parts seemed to go on slightly too long. Pour Some Sugar On Me definitely the standout track.

Sure some songs are catchy, I’ll give it that. Unfortunately, I already know this album well and it’s too associated with an annoyingly vapid section of pop culture to me.

You don't get more 80s than Def Leppard 80s.

Pretty solid

Not bad. Like it, even. But I’m unlikely to seek it out to listen.

First impressions are solid groove, more face pulling, head banging but also songs felt a bit long at times. Maybe especially after some shorter albums, but thought it was ready to end a few times. Good sound and production. Good, clean, classic rock anthems but also with enough variety in songs to keep it fresh enough. Vocals sound Axel Rosey at times. Did not know “pour some sugar on me” were the words, nor the artist! What a banger. Full face screw unlocked. Maybe slightly downhill from there. Close to 3.5 but might just miss out

I'll always associate this band with MTV's heyday. This album seemed a lot longer than 62 minutes and I was glad for it to be over. I can take Def Leppard in smaller doses but this album was a lot. This was pretty mid for me overall but since I can't give 2.5 stars I'll round up - 3/5.

The music is not bad, instrumentals are good but they just don’t bring that certain “new” energy… 3/5

Good instruments The voice is just kinda generic rock sounding Every song turns out pretty mid

They all sound so similar to one another and I didn't enjoy it very much. I know theres some "classic" songs on here, but classic doesn't necessarily mean good... Still, there were a few songs I liked. Armageddon was relavtively good, but this definitely isn't something I'll come back to Overall: 3/5

Not a big dec leopard or that style of 80s rock, but can admit the album had a lot of hits

- You know...sometimes trash is just fun. Sue me. - "Animal" moving into "Love Bites" and then "Pour Some Sugar On Me"...let's just wrap it up here. Because that is *chef's kiss.* - Appreciate them trying to have a political track or two? Even if the title "Don't Shoot Shot Gun" sounds like they are having a stroke.

Brings me back to childhood…

Some good songs

Let's say some horny British blokes started a band and at one point decided, "Let's make the ultimate strip club soundtrack for white dudes." The result? The soundtrack of my senior year in high school. Completely inescapable. And for good reason -- probably the best side of "popular" hard rock ever committed to vinyl. Women, Rocket, Animal, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It. We heard these songs again and again. And then rewound because, except for Hysteria, the second side completely peters out. Was a slog to get through the inanity that is Gods of War on through to Love and Affection. It's like they tried to create a substandard b-side for every single. Anyway, this was good for nostalgia. Everyone loved these guys back in the day. I still prefer Pyromania, myself...

Don't really like glam rock or hair metal but it was okay

Ah, junior high. What good memories! Def Leppard is fine, but it is tough to get through the ubiquitous “whoosh “sound of the overproduction.

Loud, over the top, kinda fun sometimes but overall just too much.

So did you enjoy those guns and roses songs that were not hits? If so, boy do I have an album for you. As good as dumb 80's hair metal gets for the fun factor but oh so dated. This is the stuff Steel Panther makes fun of.

When I was in the 8th grade, I began to break away from top 40 pop music and get into the "heavier" stuff. I had Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood." My friend let me borrow and record his copy of Poison's "Flesh and Blood." I also saved up a little bit of money and I bought "Hysteria" by Def Leppard on cassette. Then, midway through the school year, a classmate let me listen to a Metallica album he stole from his older brother. That was it for me. I begged and borrowed it from him, went home and put tape over the two ends of the "Hysteria" cassette, and I recorded over it with Metallica's "And Justice For All." 8th grade me wasn't entirely stupid; good call, kid.

There's a lot of flash here, but not much substance. It reeks of 80's hair bands which I never really could get behind. A lot of radio friendly material but nothing that really satisfies - although I always sort of dug "Animal". The rest of it, when it comes on the radio I immediately tune to another station. Three stars for all their commercial success - even if I don't get it...

Was schreit mehr 80s Rock als dieses Album! War definitiv amüsant das zu hören, auch wenn es nicht voll meine Musik ist.

I'm just young enough to remember this but not old enough to have listened to the album in it's entirety until.today. It's way over produced and at least twenty minutes too long. I would give it a 4 on the strength of the singles if it didn't seem interminable for the last 4-5 songs.

Expected to hate this a lot more than I did. Obviously as a whole, its not great. And as a piece of art, it's not great. I think this is mostly because the lyrics and general life outlook the style connotes are so braindead. The mix sounds expensive and stripped of its humanity through overproduction. But the music itself? Kinda fun.

Alright, bring out the Def Leppard haters We can all agree that Pour Some Sugar On Me sucks. And theres no dodging that it is the album's biggest hit Look one layer passed that and this album is pretty solid. They released 7 singles off of this album (over the course of 2 and a half years lol). Animal is a great rock song with a stupidly simple intro lick, but those bends hit EVERY time. Ill defend that song til I die whenever anyone says DL sucks. Hysteria could be featured in ANY early 90s movie when the guy inevitably screws a good thing up with a girl he actually liked and needs to win her back, you feel me fellas? The lore behind this album is incredible. Auto accidents, the mumps, 3 years of studio work, someone (the drummer) lost a freaking arm... If thats not rock n roll, I don't know what is. 3 stars. If I gave this a better score than Prince's 1999, Id have to leave before our group hits 200

Some decent songs at their core ruined (for me) by instrumentation and production choices. It’s hard for me to get past the lead and backing vocals - it all just sounds really dated - read they were trying to replicate a stadium sound. A fun time capsule at least. They spent so much on the three year production of this album that they needed to sell 5M records to break even - sold 25M.

As Len said to the band in ‘89. ‘I didn’t realise you could get dyslexic cats! We laughed a lot that day. 3.3

Kind of pedestrian - but I'm giving them an additional star on the basis that it is cool that they worked out how to keep their drummer in the band after losing his arm

Anthemic crazies Springing like their curly hair Loving rocking out

Not a bad listen.

Good solid soft rock with a sprinkling of big tunes

Good '80's rock...echoooooo

Pretty alright, nothing special. favorite track: Pour some sugar on me. Overall score: 6.0/10

6/10…hello 80‘s Glam Metal.

Mi zapperei via il glande di netto se servisse per riportarmi negli anni 80 per UN singolo giorno

Not really into this

Started strong but fell off towards the end. 3.5/5

Over the top, polished, as commercial as metal can possibly get. I'm not a fan of the music but the band is legendary... for other reasons. 2.5 as an album, I'll round up though.

One armed Drummer. I'm in. Big Red staple this, so double nostalgia.

I can't pretend to be a huge fan of Def Leppard, but I can only imagine how fun they must have been to see live. As far as 80s big stadium hair metal bands go, Def Leppard are about as close to the stereotype as you can get. They write some good songs and know how to make themselves marketable, stylizing themselves after Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to make every song a potential single. It's not my favorite music, but one very notable thing about this album is that the drummer carried on after losing an arm! I can't help but represent the massive dedication it must have taken to carry on and relearn to play that way.

You can totally tell the drummer only has one arm.

This is better than I would have expected. Some of it is legitimately heavy. Kind of trails off towards the end though.

Its really good listenable wise but not really memorable to me. (3.5/5.0)

This should be filed under Refused to Listen, right? Wrong! I've always had a soft spot for Leppard. Maybe it's the soft rock thing. The Reagasn Thatcher shit was a bit Spitting Image. But SEVEN singles. Blimey.

Heard songs for it before. When it comes to the genre that's one of the more quality bands. But (bestie don't kill me) I'm not a big fan of the genre. Giving it a good score because the album does sound nice. 3/5

good album

I'm generally a fan of glam metal because of it's riff focused music, big sound and high vocals. Having said this, I was never a fan of this album, it just wasn't as fun as some of the other ones I liked. It doesn't have that much riffs or great solos and the vocals are somewhat washed. The album sounds like an over produced, over commercialized version of glam metal, which was already heavy it that regard. Now for some positives, there are 3-4 really catchy songs on this, the songs are easy to listen to and get in your head quickly, perfect for a party. The production is a bit too much, but at the same time the album sounds huge, everything is made bigger, drums, guitar, vocals. Giving this 3 stars, no idea why. I guess because of the cult status and big sales numbers.

This album is cornier than an American diet. It's pretty entertaining but it's also pretty frontloaded. If you asked me to tell you which of these songs comprised the seven singles from this album I could honestly only guess two of them. I've said this about ZZ Top as well, this album isn't trying to say anything or be any deeper than "hey let's have a good time" and it does that really well. To be honest this would have been a 4 if it were just shorter and a little more focused, as the album goes on it falls off for me. But I'm not gonna sit here and try to pretend like I didn't enjoy it. Highlights - Women, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar On Me

The production is amazing - it’s so crisp. And the musicianship is also amazing - plus, Animal and Pour Some Sugar are bangers. But time has really not been good to hair metal. It sounds so outdated, and the strange thing is that the songs all feel so damn long (because they are). I need more epic guitar solos in the songs. But I can see why this was such a massive hit back in the day, and I also listened to this and other hair metal bands, a lot, as a teenager, in the early 90’s

Not bad for an album with one arm in the air and the other on the snare. Solid, but not quite a knockout. Still, props to the drummer for doing it with style!

Not really my thing, but it’s fine. Also, they’re British wtf?!

Solid classic rock album, wel iets te simpel voor mijn doen soms

Hier kan ik bijna altijd wel in komen.

Pre-teen me was in awe! Now it’s been years and nostalgia it rocks and is a bit cringe

It is not terrible. It is a generic example of the "soft metal" I remember friends playing in period. I do not understand why it appears on a list of "must hear" albums. I could quite happily have died never having heard it, and I am not disappointed that I am unlikely to ever hear it again. A respectable but bland (and possibly generous) 3/5.

Gets a little repetitive but, to be honest, its pretty infectious 80's stadium rock. Just good core songwriting.

This was kind of a slog until we got to PSSOM. That’s a banger. Afterward I was in a better mood but nothing else really hit.

The definition of hair metal. Some of the songs aren’t bad, but they are pretty lightweight. It like eating empty calories.

Tiene un poco una onda a Kiss pero un poco más heavy. Me gustó el disco pero siento que minga canción se destaca demasiado.

Something I liked more back when it came out but still not enough to have bought the record. I could still enjoy about half the songs turned up at a bar.

Enjoyable enough, unfortunately for Def Leppard being fun will catch you a lot of hate from music purists 3*

Pretty middle of the road. I was surprised by how similar this sounds to other 80s pop - I was expecting it to be at least a little bit harder. I enjoyed it and liked the production but I wouldn't say it's anything special. 3/3.5

A whole album of this kind of music is just really annoying.

Never actually listened to Def for a prolonged period of time, it's alright. Just middle of the road shit, thought they were actually well heavier than this. Won't be visiting this again, borders on a very low 3.

New genre to me I enjoyed it

6.5/10

Decent album probably wouldn’t listen front to back again but some good songs.

Classic it's not. Very good at best. Their first "stadium album"

Wikipedia says that this album is Glam Metal / Arena Rock / Hard Rock / Pop Rock, and I would agree with all of that except Hard Rock, which this album most definitely isn't. This album is an example of why I don't really like most Arena Rock. It's hard to know if this album is serious or a parody. The track "Rocket" could have been done by Adam & The Ants.

Silly but somehow listenable.

80s movie training montage ass music

solid. hysteria is my favourite track on the album. (rly do not like the album cover tho, way too scary 😅) 10/10 to drummer rick allen.

Can see how this was good in its time, but not for me.

Mwah, beetje hetzelfde allemaal, en niet heel interessant, 5/10

Classic hair metal. It's got some fun moments and some moments where it relies so heavily on the synth sound it just all sounds the same. Obviously there's some huge hits on this album but as a whole it's really brought down by the other songs.

Don’t like this pop metal stuff (or whatever you call it). It’s like a worse version of KISS with cheesier vocals + less impressive instrumentals.

Okay stuff but dragged on a little too long.

It hasn't changed my thoughts towards the genre, but at least with this album I can see the appeal. It ain't for me, but there is enough on show to understand why people love this shit, even if it's lame as fuck 2.5/5

Brings me back to high school. Not as good as I remember. 3/5

This album was great at the time it was released. It was overplayed, but has some gems on it still.

I know this sounds weird but I've been listening to that Barry Adamson's Moss Side Story over and over again. I get that most people didnt like it, but it's my new favorite. Oh yeah, Def Leppard is fine

Junior High kids were super proud of their Def tees. I didn't like them much back then, but I have to say these guys are the kings of the hair metal bands.

Lots of hits. Their most popular album for sure. I think “On through the Night” is better.

Enjoyable *but* it didn't really go that extra mile that I was hoping for after Megadeath's horrible album.

Kinda funny to me that these guys are British, I had no idea. They should have called that one song “Pour Some Sugar in Tea” to make that more clear This is such a corny sound but I’m not mad at it. That’s My Boy-core

Exactly what I expected but I liked it for some reason

a little too 'awesome' for me

Listened to this making dinner last night and woke up with a Trans Am in my garage.

I know this kind of music exists. I've seen photos. I've heard some of these songs at sports games, on the radio, or in clips glamorizing weapons of war. But damn nothing can prepare you for every ridiculous lick, the texture of their production, their relentless vocals, or how much melodic content there is located underneath all these power chords. They really went for this sound, this look, this attitude? Somehow both hypermasculine and beyond gender. I fell in love and out of love like 10 times. Was absolutely gonna give this my first 2, but there's something undeniable about their commitment to it all.

Enjoyable classic rock but to me it lacks soul. Very polished, technically excellent and well produced, but like a hollow husk. Favorite song has to be Pour Some Sugar on Me.

Some of this is very corny but not always in a bad way. Throughout this generator I think the stomp-rock stuff has been the hardest for me to get into, and as with this it's been difficult to tell if it's the album or the genre that's bad. Hysteria is by no means a masterpiece, it's at its worst when it just sounds like a cyberpunk Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I would be lying if I said I didn't have fun listening to some of this. Best Track: Pour Some Sugar On Me Worst Track: Love Bites

Did every song have to be 4+ minutes?

Every time they sing together, it sounds really washed out. Not a very Excitable album. The title track was my favourite.

Solid as far as hair metal goes, but not a whole lot going on.

The drummer from Def Leppard has only got one arm!!! I think my years of Guitar Hero and Rock Band playing have given me a soft spot for these 80s hair bands and I quite liked this album, although it felt quite samey by the end. Fave Track: Love Bites Rating: 3

I like Pyromania better. I can't think of that record as a five star record, so this must be a three star record.

I would love to harp on about how this is such a sellout and far more commercial than their earlier work, but this is the first DL album I have listened to. Don’t mind it, but all that said it is actually quite solely, commercial, and dare I say a touch poppy . I’m guessing not like their earlier stuff which I’m sure we will be exposed to at some point.

Overproduced pop masquerading as rock and roll.

sone hits lots of 5 min songs like the end of the album more

Alright. Let's get this over with. When I was a kid, Def Leppard was everywhere. Jackets, backpacks, Trapper Keepers, *everywhere*. I have a bad habit of shunning popular culture. I don't think I'm a hipster, but I am immediately turned off of most things that are popular. I usually come around eventually, but I have to discover these things on my own. Def Leppard never really appealed, however. I never had the motivation to discover them for myself. Hair bands in general aren't my thing. So, open heart, open mind. It's not that bad. Lyrically, it doesn't exceed the emotional maturity of the average high shool-aged boy. So, more sophisticated than KISS, but only just. Musically, it's solid. Even complex in places. Love Bites is one of the quintessential hair-band ballads. So many singles from this album. My former boss, 15 years my senior, *loved* Def Leppard. Will I ever seek this out to listen to it again? Not likely. And the drummer for Def Leppard's only got one arm. So there's that.

Hysteria's production has a very modern radio feel. I can hardly make out many of the lyrics. I imagine Ibanez dropped off a create of Tube Screamers and the engineer plugged every vocal mic, instrument cable, and drum mic into one of them. Each part is overdubbed and compressed within an inch of its life. The songs are good. This is a radio ready pop-rock record. Catchy songs with massive choruses and memorable hooks are a requirement.

Well written and catchy 80s rock, but it sounds dated and over-produced. Not sure this will keep it's place in #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie

Great all-round 80's rock album. The first half is gold, the last half more filler but still ok. Love Bites is my pick of the bunch. Power Ballad of the century.

Very fun album. I couldn't listen to it as close as normal as I had things to do, but it was a good accompanying album for baking cupcakes to. My son danced to it as well, and approved. :)

This is the perfect album to listen to and be like wow Def Leppard did that? Because so many of their songs are well known, but it seems like def isn’t as talked about with the other big rock bands all time. Maybe it’s more so because hysteria is their best album and their others aren’t as strong. I think their title track is great and aside from sugar on me they have several very good songs on this album. This was solid. 7.2/10

Pour some sugar on me. In the name of love.

For once I read the little write-up on Apple Music before I listened, and I think that greatly affected the experience. I really enjoyed this and was happy for Def Leppard, knowing what they were going for. Not likely to keep listening to it, but maybe I appreciate them a little more?

album carino da ascoltare ma non lo metterei nelle canzoni che ascolto di solito

Quintessential 80’s hair band rock. If you can get past the strong sexual overtones then there are a couple of their big hits on this album. I’ve not been a huge DL fan, so it’s middle of the road for me.

arena rock. several huge tracks that dominated airwaves back in the day. lyrics on several tracks pretty dated & objectify women quite a bit. Rocket & Hysteria best tracks on the album. apart from Hysteria, 2nd half of album pretty blah

As good as I could’ve asked for for a hair metal ballad heavy album from the late 80s

Felt like I was on a car ride with my parents

This took me back a few years. I hadn't listened to this album all the way through but knew many of the songs. This album was packed full of hits that have seemed to hold up over time in a way. Not the best music, but enjoyable in its own way.

It was good. I’ve never heard Def Leppard before, but it was on my list so I’m glad this came up.

Surprisingly good. 3.5.

Very much of it's time.

Guilty pleasure, but not as much pleasure as Pyromania. I think Def Leppard jumped the shark on Hysteria. Still, it is undeniably fun to belt out Pour Some Sugar On Me like it is 1987 all over again.

Fun, recognizable music. The album is too long for the singularity of texture and tempos it offers. I didn't have a BAD time. But I'm unlikely to come back to it.

I mean, there were a lot more interesting things going on in 1987 in the music world, but they gave it their all, didn't they?

Some one arm era Def Leppard. Never been a huge fan of this band; we'll see how a whole album holds up. Rocket is a pretty quintessential 80s glam rock song. I actually love the vocal melody and can imagine this played in a smoke-filled club with bright lights flashing and tank-tops aplenty. Wow this album is extremely front loaded. Tracks 2-5 all got significant airplay. And honestly, while I'm not huge on the Def Leppard sound in general, these hits are very solid. Back half kind of all runs together for me into a wall of screaming and bigger than life guitar. I feel like if this was severely trimmed it could slot in at a 4, but the overall impression I get is this thing is super bloated. In my eyes this is a soft 3 held up entirely by the hits that encapsulate a particular blown-out 80s rock sound.

haven't listened to a def leppard album since high school probably. They jam but definitely not my shit these days. 3.5 stars

Definitely listened to a lot of Def Leppard when I was younger playing games like Runescape, Guild Wars, and Kal Online. Album art reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh. Wish I could have listened to this in the middle of Virginia on my way to Charlotte during the longest solo roadtrip of my life. One thing that I can't quite shake is that this sounds very commercial. Idk if it's a characteristic of this glam rock genre, but it feels like it has little authenticity. Kind of like pop rock I guess?

The goal of this album is the be the Rock version of Micheal Jackson's Thriller, even tho the sales does not compare to Thriller, the album was a smashing sucess, with more than 20 millions sales. A real arena rock sound with Glam style and musicality, a album perfectly in his time and by one of the biggest band of the time. Their is few good songs, but for me the majority are a bit too soft/not original In the good song we have: Rocket is pretty cool lyric wise, because it reference the biggest influences on the band, like David Bowie, The Beatles and Queen. Armageddon It have a very cool vibe, i like the song Don't shoot shot gun also sounded very cool, pretty ACDC like. Hysteria is the essential power ballad in every glam metal album, honneslty a very powerfull and good song, i liked a lot the guitare part on it. Probably on of the best track on the album. But for me the masterpiece is definitly pour some sugar on me, probably the hardest track and lyrics, just so rock n roll and cool, with Elliot's magic voice its simply perfect. The big big factor on the albu, is really Joe elliot voice that just transedent every song, esepeically Pour some sugar on me. also the drummer only play with on arm, wich make the songs even more impressive, so big S/O to Rick Allen. So the album have everything to succed and it did, i honnestly think that a lot of the songs are forgettable, and the album is not as authentic or powerfull as other band like Motley Crue or Guns n Rose.

I mean, it's not really my style of music but it's fine. I've listened to this several times over my life and never been into it but also not turned off because my ears are bleeding

Muy ochentero como para formar parte de mi rotación, pero Hysteria es un temazo

One thing you can count on with Def Leppard: they always sound like Def Leppard. I gave Pyromania three stars, and this will get the same even though I like this one slightly more. If possible I would give it a 3.5

Never a great lover of Def Lappard at the time this album came out. I was buying and listening to heavy rock types but preferred bands such as Extreme and Thunder. Def Leppard just sounded a bit too glam for me and I thought their sound was aimed at American MOR Rock fans wanting more polished rock. I never bought any of Def Leppard’s albums until last year when I bought their Drastic Symphonies album. A collection of reworked greatest hits with orchestration. This is a formula I have always liked and I thought it was about time I had a physical Def Leppard album in my collection so it fit the bill. A handful of the hit singles off Hysteria are on the Drastic Symphonies album which I like and enjoy so I listened to Hysteria again with new ears and open mind. You cannot deny that Def Leppard are masters of the type of rock they produce and for that reason they deserve their place on this list. Not entirely my thing but enjoyable to listen to every so often when in the mood. 3/5 5/5/24

Overall pretty good. Not an avid 80’s rock listener so this is a bit if new territory for me in terms of deep appreciation. Lots of awesome hits and fun lyrics. Also love the loud presence that the band invokes. Finally it’s absolutely crazy that the drummer lost an arm and is still that good!

One of those albums where you don't really realize you're progressing through it. Not a bad thing but nothing stand out.

sometimes it is okay to close your mind to new experiences

High octane rock and roll baby

And the tunes kept on coming!

It wouldn't feel right to have *no* Def Leppard in this collection, I suppose, but this seems like a completely arbitrary choice for an album, especially since it's not what I think of as their defining album, "Pyromania". Most of this album seems like lighter-rock variations on that previous album's songs, although "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is one of their singles that seemed more like vintage Def Leppard. Overall, though, this album seems so much more anodyne than "Pyromania", and much more of a trend towards Journey-style rock than what they were playing before, which I guess was the point (according to the Wikipedia article) but still disappointing. And such a *long* album too, for what you get. Maybe it was the sympathy vote for the poor drummer? I've always been impressed that they didn't ditch him after the gruesome accident (and that he didn't decide to bow out), and although he definitely had to adopt a different drumming style afterwards, it's more or less worked for all of them (although it would have been nice if he had been able to stick with physical drums, as the drum pads just don't have the same sound).

Doesn't have the magic of Pyromania. The word overproduced comes to mind. It could just be that I prefer my drummers to have two arms.

It's of its time, but still pretty great. Some real solid radio hits and good jams. Definitely a monster album. 3.8

It's alright.

See, that's what caught me so nicely off guard about yesterday's "British Steel" by Judas Priest (#66): I didn't need irony or nostalgia to have big time fun with it. Hysteria, on the other hand, which I did listen to backthen™, needs heaps of both now. A monumental achievement in megalomaniac Radio Hard Rock, with all the bAnGeRs, yes, but: cheesy, goofy, almost clownish today. And aggressively super-sized American, somehow, out of... Sheffield? That said, I still can't quite hate this and might even do a dramatic lip sync performance to Love Bites, in a car ride w/ commercial radio situation, but this album aged into Music For Memes.

I liked this more than I expected, probably because (to quote Wikipedia) the band's goal was to create "a hard rock version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, in that every track was a potential hit single", which disappointed their "heavy metal fans". Still, few of the "hit singles" were hits with me. Even though this album had 7 singles released, the only one that I recognized was Pour Some Sugar on Me. I liked Love Bites and I sort of liked Armageddon It and Hysteria.

I mean, it has some bangers. It's actually stronger than I was expecting. It's VERY 80s, of course. For better and worse.

Bloated and samey, but the energy is decent. Pyromania is better.

More of a “Deaf” Lep fan after listening to the album than beforehand. Great threefer with Animal, Love Bites, & Pour Some Sugar On Me. Simple beats and base lines, but songs started sounding similar by the end of the album (which ran a little long and got annoying.) L already had Pour Some Sugar on her liked songs playlist. I’m not adding any Def songs to mine or exploring any further. Overall, liked it (2.8*s)

Jsuis pas le plus grand fan du rock des années 80 à la Kiss, Motley Crüe et metallica, mais cet album a une touche plus hard rock et un peu moins cheesy que d’habitude

Another 80s glam-rock/soft heavy metal album. OK songs on it but a sound and style that is somehow dated at this time

I am gonna be honest did not listen to all of this album. I do not usually listen to this type of music. Probably wouldn't listen again. All of the elements like the singing and instrumental kinda blend together;whether that be a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know.

3.5. It’s cheesy and big and loud and stupid, but it’s kind of the platonic ideal of pop metal. The production is so crisp, the lyrics are fun and easy to sing along to, the hooks are unreal. I have a lot of great memories of listening to Def Leppard with my dad when I was younger. Sometimes you just gotta turn your brain off and enjoy the tunes.

Fun for a bit, couldn’t listen to them for too long

This album didn't really excite me. It was an interesting two listens because it just sounds so prototypical 80's hair metal. Fun stuff to listen to with your brain turned off, but it didn't really catch me as something I'd want to listen to after this listen. The Reagan overlay during "Gods of War" seems to have aged badly, with the false bravado of supposed American strength. 2/5 because it's just not my thing, but really a 3/5 because I can at least see why it's on the list as a cultural touchstone of 80's hair-glam rock. 3/5

Great fun - took me back :)

Up there with the best hair metal albums. I’m not a massive fan of hair metal so not one I’ll come back to.

- Half these songs sound the exact same lol but they're fun - Solid hair metal

- quintessential classic rock - some really good songs in here - averaging 5+ minutes per song is tough

Very cliched but very fun. This is all the things you want from glam rock: ridiculous, poppy, sonic, silly. I bet it's even better in a huge stadium full of people with headbands and glitter. I knew a lot of the songs on this album, but wasn't familiar with the title track (which is actually quite good). The whole thing is so satisfyingly bad, that it's actually good. Though it could be cut down by about 20 minutes.

Pretty emblematic of 80s arena glam rock. I'm not a huge Leppard fan but the album belongs on the list. A handful of good songs but it overstayed its welcome. Over an hour of what felt like the same songs structure again and again. This is Leppard at its best and even then it's pretty mediocre for me. 2.5 stars, probably bump it up a bit if they cut 2 songs of filler.

trying to sound like acdc with electric drums.

I saw them get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it was the only time I’ve seen them live. I must admit they were great. I forgot how massive this record was. 7 singles? Crazy. Still not my favorite genre, but this album is a fun listen.

Nothing significantly interesting about this album. Huge respect to Rick Allen tho.

Listened to half. Forgettable and mid

Veldig def Leppard stemning

Rating: 6/10 Decent album overall. This album starts off great with all of the hits besides Hysteria on the first half. The whole album is incredibly cheesy and cliche but the first half is fun to listen to. A lot of catchy vocal and instrumental melodies, good guitar riffs, and great production. After this first half, the band starts to reuse ideas that simply don't work as well so the album begins to lose its appeal pretty quickly. Hysteria definitely saves the second half from being a complete dud. Generally speaking the songs were too long as well for the entire album, could have been better with maybe only 8 songs and 35-40 minutes of music. Favorite songs: Women, Animal, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It, Hysteria. Worst songs: Gods Of War, Run Riot.

Quintessential hair metal. Highly produced, catchy and dripping with horny sexual tension. Out of 12 tracks only 2, Gods Of War (a strangely patriotic type song that didn’t feel like it fit at all) and Run Riot (a life sucks let’s rebel and be wild song) weren’t littered with double entendres and sex. Still, for the genre definitely a fitting and solid album. 3/5 one armed drummers approve.

If you like 80s rock music you will love that album. But if you are like me it's all just a bit 'meh'.

Þetta er svaka fínt 80s metalpopp. Nú er metalpopp hins vegar ekki mjög skemmtilegt. Þrjár stjörnur fyrir vandað handverk eða tvær stjörnur fyrir að leiðinlegt form?

A couple of great songs, a bunch of duds and very overproduced. Good for it’s genre but not saying much there.

Better than I thought, need to drink before this. Straight strippers music

MARMELADE. Ils étaient au HF l'année dernière. Je regrette pas particulièrement de les avoir manqués. 2,5

This is stadium rock at its height. I grew up with this band, as my parents love this band and it was routinely played in the car on road trips. As I got older, they sort of got left behind.. My style and likes changed but I could sing every lyric on this album. As Def Leppard songs, they're not their best songs. They're the most accessible in my option. Pour Some Sugar On Me might be one of their biggest songs... But honestly, it's pretty shitty. But catchy and easy to sing along to. The guitar work is underrated. The vocals are iconic. This band has its place in music history and will go down with a great legacy. They're still touring... And they still sound good compared to their peers of their age. Music still is well played... Drummer has one arm and out drums contemporaries. Not my cup of tea anymore. But nostalgia hit well.

Pour some sugar on me was good, a couple other fun songs but mostly meh

Cheesey radio friendly butt rock. Some of the courses really get me anyway.

Am I writing this through the eyes of me when it was first released .... or how I feel about it now when I hear any of these songs on the radio (jabbing so hard at the controls with potential to break the first knuckle)...? It's probably not fair - I mean yes I bought this album upon release and listened to it with as much muster as my greasy 1988 mullet could handle. My reaction upon seeing this cover now was at "...is Pour Some Sugar On Me actually the most awful yet successful single ever released?" Yet I haven't listened to the album since probably 1990 so here goes the nostalgia trip ... (...i honestly think like 8 of these songs were singles if not hits - Mutt Lange said he wanted to make the "Thriller" of rock albums and credit to him, that crazy bastard really did it...) OK it's honestly an impressive feat of engineering - the technology and the way that technology was used to record these tracks is fascinating to me. Creatively (over-)layered guitars with odd tones, the produced-to-death background vocals (and in 1987!) that would make any 2020s pop star envious [some of those songs had as many as 120 background voices WTF], the drum replacement (all drum sounds were sampled which I don't even know how this was done pre digital workstation)... I love reading and thinking about this. It's just that it overshadowed the songs for the most part. Likely they would have been cheese to begin with. I do still get occasional enjoyment out of hearing a very early Def Leppard song (definitely from High and Dry, a few from Pyromania) just for that more raw British attack (NWOBHM!). Would these songs have aged better with .... fewer or less-processed guitars? fewer background vocals? or are the myriad soft ballads - oh so many of them, god they're bad - just what they are and would still have sucked? eh maybe they're not as bad when listening to the full album in context, in the sense that they don't anger me when they start like they do on radio :) I'm sure it's a stupid fine line that many people would dismiss but even the original Bringing On the Heartbreak (not the lousy re-release with keyboard lines added) from High & Dry - which was or could have been a total cheese single if given the Hysteria treatment - had balls. That guitar sound - real amps, etc. blahblahblah one lump or two it doesn't matter. Do I like the album? Not really, no. I'll be curious to see if this album is as polarizing as I expect it to be in reviews. In the end it's exactly what I'd remembered: very expensive junk food. I loved that pixy-stix sugar rush in 1988. I try to eat avocados now. Yeah yeah I'm no fun. I'm gonna give it a gutless 3 though I'll probably never put it on again, but it really was a cultural phenomenon even if a lot of people want to deny it. 5/10 3 stars.

If someone doesn’t understand what pop hair-metal is, this is the album to listen to, still fun though

lots of classics, but not really my thing. 2.6/5

nachos

very smool

3.5/5. There's no reason for an album like this to be over one hour long. Mostly impressed by the fact that their drummer is an amputee who never let his physical disabilities impair his playing ability, that's resiliency baby.

It was ok

Killer! Glam arena is a great combo, this was way less intense than I was expecting. Favorite Track: Women

Never heard of Def Leppard before and listening to this, somehow I constantly felt that they trying too hard, I don't know.

Glam rock

60/100

Classic DL, if dated. Nothing really stood out to me - it is their sound, and I've never listened to a full album through despite hearing Photograph a thousand times, but I'm not sure this is pushing me to change that either.

Strippers worldwide owe Def Leppard points for all the cash they’ve made while working to Pour Some Sugar

ah oui acdc je connais 🎀

SKIN ON SKIN LET THE LOVE BEGIN WOMEEEEEN!!! So omnipresent was Def Leppard's music in the 80's that if you lived through it, you were likely desensitized to their unique and powerful sound. Listening again now, it's as though some little-known fertility god had awoken once more to put on its red leather pants and splinter the Earth’s crust with pure sexual energy of a divine nature. Like a percentage of 80’s music and theater, the magic in these songs seems to have emerged from something similar to a lack of self-awareness, which allowed for unique or uncomfortable aspects, and sometimes transcended to greatness. No one born from ‘76 to ‘84 wants to hear “Pour Some Sugar On Me” or “Love Bites” ever again. But if you Dave Mustaine those tracks, Hysteria might replenish your 80's magic flask.

A quintessential dad rock album. Not my thing but pretty solid, and Pour Some Sugar On Me obviously slaps. Also mad respect for the drummer

It is what it is

Accrocheur, accessible, mais facilement oubliable.

Aged quite poorly: I have to say it isn't the worst rock album on this list by far, it's a classic dad rock album and it will always be that way. Issues arise when it comes to ageing the album which it doesn't look nearly as good. The out of date synths and almost 80s pop sound which just sounds so bleh now takes this experience down another point. One major banger but the rest wasn't great.

Cheesy, but it sounded like they were having fun at least.

I feel like I already did one by Def Leepard and used the anecdotes and quips I thought of... This was one of THE rock monoliths of my high school days and it is solid for what it is. What that is, however, is a fairly shallow pool.

jakoby pop soft rock asi idk, neco co bych cekal v radiu, nic ohromujiciho

It is the epitome of 80s hair band. There were several songs that I knew. Overall I enjoyed the album. I felt though that many of the songs carried on a little too long. This lead to the album being over an hour long. By the end of it I was glad that it was over. It is better than a three but not really a four. I will round down.

I was prepared to hate this, I’m allergic to most mainstream 80’s rock, but it’s almost hard to not to appreciate this big budget sound. If there’s a crime here, it’s the mega hit Pour Some Sugar on Me, which I personally find to be one of the worst ear worms ever conceived. The album as a whole is a little overly long, and it doesn’t shake up the sound enough to justify the length, but there are some undeniable hooks throughout that make me resist turning it off. I was truly blown away by some of the guitar tones, which has to be some of the best of the genre.

3.5/5 Good old Metal cheese. This is junk food metal. You enjoy listening to it, but does it fill you up and change your life? No. But it's good for what it it is.

A little long but rousing hair metal often is. This isn't an album I'll obsess over but I did enjoy it and it's uplifting sound. Nothing else to say really!

I never got into hair metal when it came out but I admit this is a fun album.

I'm not sure I needed a full album of this but it's a lot more enjoyable than some other glamsludge.

I really disliked their previous album "Pyromania," but they changed a lot in the 4 years in between. Became much more pop-oriented and playful. I can see the appeal. There should really only be one Def Leppard album on this list, and this should be it.

Sometimes I'll order a cheese pizza and then ask for extra cheese. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but at a certain point the essence of the pizza has been completely drowned in the cheese. Too much of a good thing. That's Def Leppard for me, I can enjoy a few songs here and there, but it becomes just too much 80s cheese pizza for me. Every once and a while is fine though.

A bit of a mixed bag for me personally, but I can definitely see why this is one of the 1001 albums. It's an extremely well done high energy rock album full of well written songs, and also has a slight experimental edge to it. Sometimes they took the experimental side a little too far and left me asking "what's going on...?," but I appreciate that they were willing to go there at all. Clearly they were just being really creative (it's not too derivative or too pretentious), but it doesn't always fit the song. However, when it does, it's amazing. My previous exposure to this album was just the chorus of "Pour Some Sugar On Me." I heard it in a YouTube video about songs One Direction ripped off, and apparently this was one of them. They played the chorus of "Midnight Memories" and then "Pour Some Sugar On Me," and I've got to agree it was extremely similar. I don't know if it's just because I'd heard it before, but "Pour Some Sugar On Me" ended up being one of my favourites on the album. It's just such a huge, infectious chorus. You can't help but sing along. This is the main strength of this album's songwriting. The hooks and choruses are huge and bombastic. I didn't enjoy all of them (some were annoying- for instance, I wasn't a fan of the chorus of "Women," which was a shame, as I was really enjoying the lyrics of the verse. I don't even know why, but I really enjoy songs that use that kind original sin/the fall trope. It's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine), but that's just a matter of taste. Lyrically, most of it is about sex (so not really that deep), but it was well done. The main thing I didn't enjoy lyrically was the "I don't care about love, I just wanna get laid" kind of message that was in a couple of the songs. I think that's a really sad, unhealthy mindset (is it even PC to say that these days? I don't even care: love is important). "Gods of War" is a great song. Trust me to say that, though, as it's the only "serious" song on the album. It has an anti-war message, and I appreciated that. I'm not sure if this album is a little front loaded or if I just got sick of it as it went on (especially since their sound is a LOT- 3 or 4 songs is fine, but after a while it can get a bit too much). There were good songs later on (the title track and "Gods of War"). But other than that, I enjoyed the first half a lot more. Favourite songs: Gods of War, Pour Some Sugar On Me

It’s a a fun shit and giggles album. Quite impressive the drummer found a way to carry on after the events of his arm tearing off. But all in all, too long and too unmemorable for me. 6,5 out of 10
