Interesting sounds but feels hollow to me. I don’t connect well with the melodies, I guess. Seems like it was a pioneer for this sound, and I love that.

never heard of this album or duo before. there was one song i didn’t mind (“the color of the fire”), some i absolutely hated (those unfortunately happened to be the longer ones), and the rest were so boring and sounded the same

The first album I've got that was already in my collection, I think. It's a weird one, and I can see how somebody not expecting it would be put off and rate it poorly. I think it acheieves what it sets out to do, which is ultimately more of a mood/soundscape that a typical musical experience. 3.5/5

Takes the deep atmosphere of the best ambient projects and brings a trip hop groove and more memorable mood. Sometimes the sound is a little too drab and slight, however.
Boards of Canada is a Scottish electronic group and another piece of the 90's UK trip hop/downtempo puzzle. Music Has The Right To Children is unique in how it wields the drum samples, mixing them with subtle synth pads, field recordings, and ambient hums. Production on this album is unique and occasionally experimental, as it takes each song into unexpected territory that keeps the listener on their toes. You could listen to a single Boards of Canada song a dozen times and notice something new each time. There's a lot to unpack a lot to enjoy.

once again not my kind of music
Never heard of them before ... for sure. Genre: Electronic, downtempo, ambient, trip hop, psychedelia 1998 It has all the elements I have grown to appreciate by listening to the albums on this list. A couple of years ago I would have dismissed it with giving it a chance. It is great, no. It is good, not sure. Did I enjoy the experience. I think so. The album is kinda ok, until it gets towards the end and that's when it picks up. Best songs: Roygbiv, Aquarius, Olson Nice to listen to but really just as background music or music to sleep to. 3.5

Minecraft music on steroids
okay, here's the thing. I love electronic music, but this doesn't have enough substance. it feels like background music to a game, reminding me of EVE Online, but it's not powerful enough to keep my brain entertained on its own.
a unique mix of IDM with a lot of ambience and a lot of psychedelia. a couple of tracks i quite like with more accessible electronic elements. however I found the rest a little eerie and weird for my liking. not gold the whole way through like all of kraftwerk's discography, my preferred electronic music.
This was one of those that whilst it didn't blow my socks off, I'm happy it was on the 1001 list and therefore I had the reason to listen to. I had never heard of Boards of Canada before but this album was quite interesting, if not fully absorbing. Lots of samples and neat use of synths.
Listened to this staring syraight ahead whilst moving backwards on a train. Sesame Street samples a highlight
I've had this album recommended by spotify for a few years now. I think I've listened to it once before. I'm enjoying this listen. I'd be fine with 11 songs as a whole album. Another solid album that is just too long.
fond fond memories and an easy 5 star
This album is really cool, I haven't really listened to a ton of electronic music but this has a sort of nostalgic vibe with the children's voices interspersed. It would be great to listen to while doing work or otherwise zoning out hahah. I dont really know how to determine if this is "good" electronic music or not, but its cool!

Although I think Aphex Twin does it better I cant deny the influence and the surprising Hiphop beats carried it to 4 stars for me

Got this CD through Columbia House. My first foray into true electronic music
Dreamy, minimalist, ambient electronica. Ambient music has moved on in the last 25 years so it sounds a bit dated in places. But we probably wouldn't have some of today's ambient sounds without albums like this. Juuuust sneaks into 4 stars, partly due to its influence on other artists that I love.

Dull, even a bit more so than the other electronic albums on this list I've had to suffer through. If it was going for something, which I'm not sure if it was, it didn't resonate with me.

This is an interesting one. It's so easy to zone out to but not in a background music way. Haven't heard a ton of albums that get this same impact.

I believe this is the duo's most acclaimed album. A very chill electronic/trip hop/ambient record. Weird samples and I think seminal. I prefer Geogaddi but I think that's subjective. This is still a great album for focusing, night drive, being wired into the dystopic future nightmare that is the future present. Very alien hip hop/trip hop beats. Odd vocal samples and spacey alienating synths. Definitely a must listen to get into the weirder side of electronic music.
Fantastic
One of my more favourite albums as of late. Great to have on whilst working or in the background. Smooth, consistent, made with care and attention. I'm a big sucker for electronic that is able to see where things are going and almost predict futures that don't yet exist, and this album does that to a T.
ROYGBIV is a standout. This not their best work, but it is a challenging and at times charming bit of electronic noodling. Love the experimentation going on - they are do this for themselves, no record company is backing this.

Musical foraging. Sometimes it can be warming and on others upset ones tummy. Here it is mostly the former.
Just a great listen all-around. The album ebbs and flows with really good pacing, mixing really chill IDM beats with some harder, more normal electronic songs. I feel like I could wake up and play this album every day and it would be a great start to my day! 9/10
Some magical high points on this record. I missed this first time around, but can see how BOC influenced many artists that followed. Metric Systems probably ate this record for breakfast everyday when they were cutting their teeth.
Not really into this sort of stuff. The first few songs really put me off but the more ambient and relaxing later tracks brought me back a bit. A bare pass for this though.

Without any interesting sounds or emotionally evoking parts, electronic music will be boring, no matter how atmospheric it is.
This isn’t something I could listen to all the time and maybe it’s an insult to the artist but this is the type of music I love to sit down and focus working too. Easy listening.

"Turquoise Hexagon Sun" -- I really like the vibe here, though I find it hard to keep my full attention on it. "Pete Standing Alone" -- I like the crackling sounds on this one. Oh and now I like the distorted voice muttering sound. I'm not exactly sure what people do with this music. Do they dance to it? Or just kind of use it to add texture to their day?
I enjoyed this I'd say! It was pretty long but solid vibes throughout. Not like floored by it but it was certainly enjoyable. Probably like a 3.5 we'll decide whether I round up or down tomorrow.

Never heard of these guys. Hm Scottish electronic duo. Distinctive style of electronica, featuring vintage synthesisers, degraded analogue production, found sounds and samples, and hip hop-inspired rhythms. Could make for some great background music today. I wonder if I'll recognize any of these. i'm digging the dissonance of these tracks. Interesting album art too. A faceless family, in the late 60's. Could possibly be Mt. Fuji. I was wrong. The album cover is a modified version of a family photo taken at Banff Springs in Alberta, Canada. According to Sandison, "If there's sadness in the way we use memory, it's because the time you're focusing on has gone forever… It's a theme we play on a lot, that bittersweet thing where you face up to the fact that certain chapters of your life are just Polaroids now."

Based on the first couple tracks, I wanted it to be more ambient and natural than it ended up being. It ended up more industrial and percussive, which created a cool experience on a night drive but began feeling too drawn out. I ending up thinking of music I would rather have to listened to (The Avalanches, Polo & Pan). I was wondering though how groundbreaking of an album it was upon release. 3.5/10
Terrible. None of the songs have any substance. Maybe it’s just not my type of music, I just truly don’t get it.
A few nice moments (e.g., Open The Light) save this from getting only 1 star, but it is mostly a boring slog.
To me, this album is like when you try and listen to someone explain a concept to you several times but you just cant grasp it. This went way over my head, also the genre just isnt for me. Felt really meandering and repetetive.
If you’re looking to space out for almost 90 minutes because every song sounds the same… brother have I got the album for you!

I love all the layers and how the songs will transform is small, subtle ways as they go along. The songs are in some ways unassuming - almost a mellow kind of background music - but the driving beats and complexity of the sound keep them really alluring. It's long but it got me in a nice hypnotic zone while I was working. Ended up listening a couple times.
The music of my dreams. Precisely the hazy world I want to stay lost in forever. Ideal for introverted headphone rides late at night. Rich, deeply textured, evocative, and hypnotic, to the point of practically being intoxicating - all without ever being overbearing. An exquisite example of what electronic music can do when freed from a purely dance oriented context.
Pretty pivotal album for a certain aesthetic of electronic music that is still influential to this day. Not every track on here is one I'd listen to in isolation, but the atmosphere and vibe of the album is almost perfect for what they are going for. There's a lot of little subtle and reserved sound choices that really make certain things stand out, in a way it's sort of like good ambient: you can really listen to them deliberately a get something completely different out of it than if you passively had this in the background, which is also a valid listen. It's background music that is there for you to listen to it more deeply when you have the moment.

I had no clue that subliminal music was my jam. It definitely passed under the radar for me, but then again, isn’t that what it’s supposed to do?
I thought it sounded fresh and wouldn’t have guessed it was from 1998. Clearly inspired the likes of 4tet who I enjoy.
Although I don't think I ever get excited about this genre, there is much I loved about this album. It's hard for me to really stay engaged in the long, ambient bits, but when I pull them back into consciousness, these are really, really good. I love the mix of seventies synthesizer and hip hop beats.
This was new to me. I listened and I really liked it. I had thoughts that it wasn't as interesting as some of the other albums of this sound that we have heard and was going to rate it down for that. Then I figured that if I wasn't comparing it to the other albums that I must hear before I die, then I would love this one. So, ...
Created a gentle ambient background sound for my work today and again later while I rested. I’m not sure I could say what makes it distinct from other electronic music but it’s nice.
I have heard of Boards of Canada and thought I knew their genre, but either they changed to something very different or I knew nothing about them. This was way more interesting and engaging than expected. A wonderful journey… trancelike at times… and definitely something I will be revisiting!

I’m normally really not a fan of music with no vocals/lyrics but this album grew on me as I listened to it. Reminded me a lot of the times I’d put the Minecraft soundtrack on when I really needed to focus on something. This album is more chill than focus, though.

Phenomenal album one of the most important electronic albums to ever exist
This is a 3.5 for me. I'm familiar with BoC, but my go to album has always been Campfire Headphase. I was happy to get the push to listen to this album again since it's been a while. It's good, but I don't really get the hype. I never did. Sonically this album is a trip worth the listen, but I probably won't come back to it too often (3 stars). Extra point for being so influential. I can think of several artists I like that site this album as inspiration. Maybe one day it'll break through to me.

Album feels like a compilation of sampling for Radiohead in the first half and more Massive Attack-esque in the second. Overall found a bit hard to distinguish tracks as very ambient + lyricless, prefer first half's flow of tracks

Really, really dug this one. I think I've heard the name in passing but definitely not familiar with Boards of Canada. They're obviously indebted to the great ambient artists before them, like Brian Eno. This is just really engaging, mesmerizing stuff. I also like that amid the atmospheric ambience are a few tracks with almost hip hop beats. This is lo-fi beats to chill/dissociate to. Favorite tracks: Olson, Kaini Industries, The Color of Fire, Sixtyten, An Eagle in Your Mind, Rue the Whirl, Pete Standing Alone. Album art: What looks to be an ordinary photo of a family vacation, but all the faces are missing. Reminds me of the meme I just saw this morning about taking a bunch of Benadryl. Who took this photo, the Hat Man? Very appropriate, very creepy. 4.5/5

Didn’t expect to like this. It did grow on me though. Not sure it will be a regular listen but it pulled me in. May be a little long though. Always think it must have been an exciting time for an electronic musician so many new sounds and techniques to learn and explore.

i was so excited by the first two tracks and the wonderfully enticing tracklist before this fizzled out into ambient experimental electronica. not much substance, i thought. my quest for that perfect misty forest in early october record drives on.
This is a very interesting album. Music Has The Right To Children is an odd electronic album. I can still tell it’s electronic, but it doesn’t feel like it is. It feels ambient and beautiful. It’s slightly psychedelic, helped by the downtempo beats. Somehow, it all just kind of works. It’s very pretty in my opinion. Listening to it was almost like a dream. This ambient and downtempo sound, while it may sound like a turnoff to some, it clicked with me. I’ve never been a big electronic music kind of guy, but this feels like it’s going beyond that. It’s like it is breaking the boundaries of electronic music and making something that is artistic. Not to mention dynamic. For an ambient album, it has a lot of different types of sounds. There’s clean sounds, distorted sounds, trebly sounds, bass-y sounds; it certainly adds some flavor to all of this. It also feels eerie as well. Almost like how OK Computer feels robotic and cold in some parts, this album feels the same way. There are parts where it feels cold and tense, despite the ambience. It’s a feeling that I love to get because it’s not a feeling that you get very often. This was an amazing ass record. It’s cold demeanor really worked in my opinion and it’s ambience really added to the experience. I’d happily give this a strong 9/10.

Kinda eerie and had some spooky vibes at times. Just unoffensive synth tones for the most part. Just fine.
Ah, I do love me some BoC... Good old downtempo electro-psych. This album in particular has always commanded my attention. Album opens with some very BoC aura sounds. A roaming synth playing through some hazy fog; evokes something of some colorful light roaming through space. An Eagle In Your Mind follows on with a warbly synth plus stumbling, ever-evolving drum. Some spoken word samples in the background add to the already eerie vibe. The "I Love You" sample always kills me. Feels so out of place, and yet... This song in particular is everything I love about BoC; slow building aura music that makes you slightly uncomfortable, while also wrapping around you like a blanket. The Color of the Fire, once again dips heavily into the "I Love You" sample. This time opening up with a super slowed down and spread out rendering. The stuff of nightmares. Uncomfortably paired with some moody synth aura and twinkling electronic bells. It is as if they deliberately made this song to induce a bad trip. Would absolutely do drugs to this and regret it. Telephasic Workshop ditches the majority of the eerieness in favor of a fairly straightforward drum and bass number with a strange (awesome) syncopated vocal track serving as a percussive element. All throughout, things are held together by familiar synth tones and background vocal samples that make it clear we have not left the BoC universe. Second favorite song so far after An Eagle In Your Mind (I'm a whore for a slow build). Sixtyten features a very hip-hop infused beat with boom-bap drums and a vocal sample featuring at the center of the rhythm. This song jams end to end. Turquoise Hexagon Sun starts out so very pretty. Trip-hop infused beat lead by some angelic keys that just never stops moving. On this song, I think I realize what I like so much about BoC is the lived-in feel that they create with their songs. Every song is kind of homey and cluttered in a delightful sort of way. This song in particular makes me think of walking through a not-long abandoned house on a sunny day where the blinds are mostly drawn, but there is enough light shining through so you can see the dust floating about. Hard to explain, but there it is. A couple of short sandwich tracks separate this and obvious standout Roygbiv. The simplicity of the lead synth line with the drums is only enhanced as the track builds with successive layers. Such a pretty, forceful song. Rue The Whirl is an aptly named track whose main loop feels like something unwinding over and over again. Paired with a punchy drum beat, this feels like something that should be rapped over, or at least bobbed to very confidently. Aquarius gives way to a sprawling number with a funk-infused base line and cowbell(?) marking time. Seems music fit for the intro of a porno, that is until the creepy samples start rollings. For some reason, the sample of the woman counting just works amid all the other sample layers. God I love BoC. Vocal samples just keep getting better -- One Very Important Thought busting out the government PSA about serving as a juror. Album closes out with Happy Cycling, which has one of the more unnerving backing synth lines on the album (which is saying something). But I mean come on... that seagull sample? How? Absolute classic electro-psych album. Guaranteed to lull you into a sense of safety and then induce nightmares in children and grown men alike. I love everything about this album from front to back. While they have a distinctive sound and aura, BoC are able to jam a lot of ideas and permutations into this environment. This album is truly timeless. Hard to believe it is 25 years old. 5/5.
Another great working album primarily made up of great beats. The first couple songs remind me of The xx. The Color Of The Fire was a cool song that reminded me of some of the interludes in Griz's Rainbow Brain. Telephasic Workshop is a standout for sure. Kinda funny that I mentioned Rainbow Brain because that album also has a song called "Roygbiv". Kind of a long album that gets a little stale through the middle. Finishes strong with One Very Important Thought and Happy Cycling. Overall a pretty interesting early electronic album. Really enjoyable as background music.
Not sure why but that is not what I was expecting that album to be. It sounded like a big collection of video game background songs. That being said I really enjoyed it and it was great music to have on while getting things done
This album is already so groovy. Love An Eagle in Your Mind immensely. I was working with this on in the background but damn felt like I was nodding my head to every song. Going to come back and give it another shot but I'd like to reward the head bob with a 4 right now.
It's a decent electronic album, although it seems a tad overrated. I think I'm often just lukewarm on the whole genre

oh my good ness. I don’t know if it’s just me or what but I could not stand this album. It was so obnoxious and repetitive and just omg. I genuinely tried to be interested but I couldn’t! It was annoying.
There's such a subtle difference between electronic music that either just misses or seems ephemeral to me and something like this which both works as background music and also hits me while actively listening. The synths and samples used here are obviously intentionally evocative of old media ("the 70s!") and totally work as such on me. Another thing I love about this album is that it isn't "electronicmusic-as-dancemusic" (i.e. EDM, not that there's anything wrong with that) - it works as a piece or pieces of music and/or a soundtrack for a tv-show (documentary?) in my head. Reminds me of Biosphere's album "Substrata" in terms of mood and sound but with more concrete song structures. Particular highlight: "Roygbiv" which isn't nearly long enough of a song for how good it is and ironically is probably why it works on me so well. Not sure what it would take for an ambient album to get a 5 (probably would take repeat listens and a history in my head) but this is close and may get there in time. 8/10 4 stars.

Ambient exposure can give a rather ambient picture of Boards of Canada, which makes the full debut a bracing one. There's weirdness which invites, not fully, and weirdness that feels like an earnest search for something different. The sound gets dense at times, which underscores opacity at times. There are also nursery-rhyme non-sequiturs. If it's ocean music, some will be sailors.

For some reason I enjoyed this album so much more than any of the other ambient electronic albums we’ve had. Maybe it scratched the right itch for me or maybe I need to go back to Aphex Twin and apologize. 8/10

This feels like a couple of guys went in to the studio, got REALLY baked, and 10 or 11 hours later came up with this. Sure, it was a lot of editing to bring it down to this, but I'm sure if you take 10-11 hours of that kind of noodling you could find an hour's worth that's good. Or at least listenable, maybe? Songs that have them calling out colors ("Orange!") like in 'Aquarius', and other stuff like 'Happy Cycling' was annoying. The songs that were 2 minutes long were all "What the heck was THAT?" And the songs that were over 6 minutes long were all "Why didn't this end 2 minutes ago?" It's not the worst thing I've ever heard. Maybe my weed just isn't strong enough. I don't know.
And then there's this. Sod off British (or any country) electronica. Apparently this was a landmark electronica album but I don't know why. It went even trippier? Softer? It inspired music in Minecraft and other video games? Boring. I found myself waiting for it to be over or not even wanting to wait for it to finish. That's borderline 1 territory. I couldn't take it by the time I got to Aquarius (or maybe that was a really annoying song...Orange! Shut up) and I started skipping to next tracks.
I feel like this is album should be used as background music for some candlelit wine bar. I don't hate it and I don't love it.

Ugh. Long and boring
This definitely wasn’t for me. I’m not too well-versed in electronic music but I felt this was nice background music and not much else. Very minimalistic and repetitive, the songs don’t seem to evolve at all and some are way too long for how little they accomplish.
At first, this felt like a fairly average ambient album, but us it went on, a lot of the beats got dirtier and more interesting and ragged and became a more interesting thing. It is also good at only staying with an idea for as long as it is interesting. It has dated (it would be much easier to create these days) but still has lots to give.
I've seen a lot of praise for BoC. This album had a reputation to live up to and at first I wasn't quite sure if this album delivered. The second half of the album won me over. I'd suggest that anyone hesitant about this record stays on through the end. Overall this was pretty enjoyable. standouts: Bocuma, Roygbiv, Aquarius 3.5
Highlights: "Turquoise Hexagon Sun," "Telephasic Workshop," "Roygbiv," "Smokes Quantity" You could summarize the album's musical contribution pretty simply as using contemporary beats to frame vintage synthesizers, but its high status is more about the theme or nerve of popular taste they struck on. The samples, in part because they can be absurd, do help evoke the associated use of these sounds in public broadcast interstices. For better it worse, this plants the seed for 'vaporwave' aesthetic fifteen years out. The stylized lo-fi to evoke nostalgia. The gloomy imagination of a liminal space as utopia, where even our fantasies cannot escape contamination by commercial artifacts. In some ways it hasn't aged well, especially the digital stretching near the start when you'd suppose this is all about analog character, but if anything this album is still underrated for the influence it's had on popular taste over such a long period.
This is one of the trippiest albums I've heard here so far. Feel this album stumbled barefoot through a field of legos so Kid A from Radiohead could run. 2
I was not taken by the first few songs but eventually this album grew on me.
I understand that this record could have potentially caused a massive impact on an entire genre alone, I also understand that my favorite record of all time can be considered electronic. The biggest things that strays me from fully enjoying this is various repetition and lack of singing. I didn't recognise BoC when I got this album but discovered I had listened to a few tracks off of this album previously. While I like BoC I preferred other collections to this one.

Best Song: Telephasic Workshop. Cacophonous space robot noises. Worst Song: The Color Of The Fire. That child audio was unpleasant to listen to. Odd artistic choice to have the kid give so many different versions and intonations until they begin to sound like a robot who doesn't understand the meaning of the words. Overall: Atmospheric, ambient, ethereal. Really compelling blends of sounds, although I found almost all of the vocal samples decreased my enjoyment of each track on which they were used.
Super cool album! Very industrial electronic! Really dig the vibe to this whole album and can just veg out and listen along to this one. A lot of these songs could be really good beats for old school hip hop to be on top of the tracks! Enjoyed both the band and the album!
No idea what score to give. As sound, it's excellent. As music, it kinda sucks. It sounded nice I suppose, but just kind of became ambient background noise. It's like ambient music done so well your brain just ignores it, making it almost pointless from a music perspective. Might return for studying, but nothing musically gripping worth returning to.
Finally, some blazing downtempo! Love this record!

Слушал бесчетное кол-во раз (спасибо Ивану Злобину за наводку!). Альбом, как и группа просто пушечные: очень психоделичная электронщина, которую можно слушать как на фоне, так и внимательно вслушиваясь в партии
Снова электроника. И это уже лучше чем Kraftwerk (ну да, прошло ведь n лет с их релиза). Это звучит интересно, но мне кажется, если постоянно слушать такую музыку - можно сойти с ума. Потому что это дуже мрачно. Я вот представляю себя в момент прослушивания идущим в какой-то тёмной подворотне. Неплохо хотя бы, что идущим, а не лежащим в окровавленной луже. Ещё одна неочевидная ассоциация - музыка из документалок про космос. Здесь ещё так забавно вставлены комментарии, вырезанные будто из каких-то научпоп фильмов, а гипнотическая музыка неизменно связывает нас с космосом. В общем, подводя итог, главный недостаток этого альбома - слушать его подряд весь очень тяжело. Добавил себе какое-то количество треков, но чтобы прям поставить на полочку в один ряд с Radiohead, Don McLean и Pearl Jam - пока не получается.

There's some crazy sounds on here I admit. Dark, industrial, spacey, it's quite unique. It seems to be in two minds though. Too dingy to be listening to on your bed, but too tranquil to be listening to in a witch's dungeon. Got big Massive Attack vibes
It’s 6am, post-rave, post-doob, post-laughing-gas. You’re sitting in a living room, you know that much. You glance at the faces around you, but there are no faces. No eyes, no noses, no mouths. Blank ovals with hair. Music is blaring from the speakers in the corner of the room. 70s and 80s disco fill the airwaves. Upbeat bangers from the likes of Kashif, Luther Vandross, Evelyn “Champagne” King and Earth Wind and Fire… all the classics. But that’s not what you can hear. Atmospheric, glitchy, gloomy instrumentals dominate your psyche. All you can hear is… Boards of Canada.
Say you don’t like Boards of Canada 3 times in a mirror and Pitchfork will appear behind you and tell you you’re uncool. Loungey and dreamy. It’s alright. 3/5

I'd been eagerly anticipating this album as I've seen it mentioned a lot on the subreddit for this site. I had no idea what to expect and only kind of vaguely remembered it was electronica. I didn't mind this. I'm not really into ambient/chill electronic music, but it's okay. I liked "Telephasic Workshop" the most. If I was ever in the mood for mostly instrumental chill music, I would consider playing this again. Probably more of a 3.5.
I have listened to this album more than any other EVER. It is my bedrock. Electronica full of sun dappled childhood memories. Melodies that ache with nostalgia. Dream on. FIVE
Ooo, did not expect this at all, and I really like it. I don't listen to music like this very often, but when I hear something like this album, I am more interested in it. Intriguing rhythms, intricate layers, and never an assault on the ears. I have a feeling if I were to listen to this record on headphones, possibly under the influence of something, I'd be very into it. Even completely sober in the light of day, as I am now and was when I listened to this, it draws me in.

Yes, clinical, but just funky enough, too. Absolutely overdetermined, and too rigidly designed, but with a touch of humor, one feels. And it's not at all clubby, at least, or danceable but cerebral, which one prefers, and just the slightest bit cheeky, too. But let's be clear: Broken Social Scene is much the better band of this milieu, this vintage.

This made for excellent background music while I was reading. While I might not necessarily seek this out to actively listen to, I would gladly put it on again in the background for something easy to listen to. Not bad.
These electronic albums have consistently been some of the best so far, and this is no exception. I usually listen to my albums before school starts. This fits that for a mellow electronic mood; it could be ambient music if you didn’t want to pay attention to it. Overall, an amazing album.

It's an excellent album. I've listened to this one quite a few times previously as my buddy Todd who I respect a great deal always wanted to make sure that Boards of Canada was in my brain. High water mark for me is Aquarius and that song has been in my playlists for a seeming eternity. Orange!
I was listening to a lot of Blonde Redhead when this was released. This album opened up a new era in music for me, expanded my mind toward more electronic-laden chill music. I discovered Arovane around this time and started listening to other stuff that I had previously shied away from. Super chill, get shit done - or get nothing done music.

This is a great base layer for something more…hmmm…animated. There’s almost nothing here exciting though. Roygbiv has a little spark. And the song after it, Rue The World, is boring as fuck. Most of the album resembles Rue The World rather than Roygbiv.
Classic of the IDM genre. Personally I'd put Geogaddi above it but they're both fantastic. This album is such a vibe.

First “hauntology-esque” record Kind of a strange way to listen to an album: a few songs on the way to work, and the final few on the way back home after barhopping with coworkers. I really think this album is special as listened to in its entirety (rather than in the individual beats/songs)- although each time I returned to the album it took me to a similar contemplative mood. Do you know the scene in Parks and Recreation where Tom Haverford falls in love with the painting and is like "It's beautiful. I've been looking at this for 5 hours now". That sensation for me is this album. I've no interest in this kind of music, I don't think I'm gonna listen to this again in my free time, but it really felt good. I can't point my finger on it, there are tracks that make relax completely and tracks that make me feel like in a dystopian nightmare trying to survive (I really felt like I was in the Danganronpa's world at certain point, which is a weird good thing to say). The amazing title and borderline disturbing cover of the album really blend well with the songs. Honestly, I really didn't expect to give this rating but here we are.

Interesting – perhaps the mid-point between Broken Social Scene (which should really be included on this list) and Aphex Twin (which qualifies, too, one supposes, though only just). One prefers the former overall. This has its moments and its winning/engaging moods, but the net effect feels a little dry and laborotoreal. The title of a cut on a later record applies here (and perhaps to all their work): "Music Is Math." It can be more of course, though it mostly isn't here. No real traction is gained. One is simply not compelled, as inoffensive and mildly interesting as this is as furniture music.

4.5 - Supreme study music. Great electronic music with warbly samples lifted from sources like 1980's PBS ("The Color of the Fire") that evokes a comforting sense of nostalgia.

One of my all time favourite electronica albums! This was so original when it came out and still sounds fresh to this day. Essential listening in my opinion.
Background music for the birth of the universe presentation at the planetarium. Not horrible, but like the vast expanse of outer space, there was a lot of endless nothingness here.
Before today, I had never heard of Boards of Canada. Apple Music tells me it is electronica. From the limited electronica that I’ve heard, I seem to find that I usually either strongly like if dislike it. There doesn’t really seem to be any electronica that leaves me feeling indifferent. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: An Eagle In Your Mind, Turquoise Hexagon Sun Fortunately, this lies on the loved side of electronica for me. It reminds me a little of Lemon Jelly, but more leaning into the electro side of things. There is minimal vocals on the album - just occasional samples. There are specific situations where I love this, such as studying uni work. I can very easily see me coming back to this when I’m studying, with big headphones on, a large cappuccino, millionaire shortbread, and tomato and mozzarella panini. Super basic, I know, but that’s my happy place, and I think this album would make it even happier.
