Reviews (page 6 of 8)
Start with a drum loop, add some ethereal synth sounds, throw in a random vocal sample, rinse and repeat and you have this album.
Wasn't in the mood for this
It had something about it, the chill out vibe probably. Not going to listen to it again though.
I would be the first to put my hands up and say that this music is not normally something I'd put on! But was an easy listen, didn't want to turn it off, the beats were good, had a cool psychedelia vibe to it. Reminded me somewhat of DJ Shadow. Well worth the listen, and I'm sure if you're more into this music, you would tell me how great it is and probaly ground breaking, but a unedecated person when it comes to Electronic music, I enjoyed it.
This wasn't bad but I can't say I enjoyed it. I liked the anti-censorship message at the end though
Well made, but makes me feel nothing.
I don't know what this album is for. It's mostly chill, downtempo stuff that would work as background music for working or studying, but it's got that number count in the middle that is actively hostile to that. Maybe an anti-math person would disagree, but I can't use it as work or chore music. It's also too chill to dance, too varied to fall asleep to, too inconsistent to put on at a party, too bland to inspire, and too self-important to discount. It's almost something, and mostly nothing. This is the album version of the color gray.
You’d think a band that has echoes of my favorite musician would be a slam dunk, but anytime I got an inkling of that Tobaxxo sound, it just made me pissed off
Has a pretty chill lofi feeling throughout, which is pretty much the only electronic music I don't hate. Mostly good background music for doing other things, but there are still a lot of drum and base feeling songs, which give me a headache, so... eh. 2/5
Interesting but not my thing
Didn't really get into this one, felt kind of repetitive and it blended together a lot, I listened to it while I was cooking. I didn't start feeling the music and grooving until the very last song of the album, over an hour in. 2/5 stars from me.
Unnecessary as anything other that background music
Boring! Message about censorship being bad feels timely so it gets a point back
Ethereal. Some were better than others, not something I found myself gravitating towards.
what the
Strange - instrumental, not for me
I can appreciate the quality and the production behind the album, but its not really for me
This was rough. Way too long of an album and I question their musical ability.
two electronica albums back to back-oh joy. I stand by what I said yesterday-i fail to see the innovation & creativity on endless loops of the same sound over & over. boooooring
I just can't get in to electronic music. I guess we have this band to thank for non rave electronica.
Perfectly listenable Scotch music. As long as it’s music having the children and not me.
No, it really doesn't.
Nomás tiene 2 o 3 rolas chidas, lo demás está muy chill beats to study
Overall: 4/10 Ah, perfect. More background music for me to forget about as soon as it's over. The most eye opening thing I've discovered while doing this list challenge is that I can't stand lengthy repetitiveness. Fav Song: Rue the Whirl
I couldn’t sorry
#36 Meh it's not bad but there's better electronic music elsewhere, and the vocals were not it
Electronica with some of the annoying sound effects I don’t like in hiphop. Tiresome.
Electronic music can be everything that this album is not. This album is bland, repetitive, presumptuously long and just plain boring. A shame, really. 2/5
Like coming down from a bad shrooms trip in the late 90s. Probably a true story.
I think this album was probably heralded for its creative use of vocals - sampling, chopping, looping - but I found it pretty annoying.
20-30 minutes of this kind of music is good. But an entire hour can feel like a slog. It is cool, it is chill, but maybe a little too chill for a work day.
Probably would have been great if I listened to it high in my room, but I listened to it sober at work, so it just made me want to kill myself.
Correcto
This music has no right to me.
It's fine. Not a huge fan of 'background' music like this unless I'm reading or doing something where I need to focus
Lot of mixed feelings on this one. I can grasp the importance of the record and I like some of their later stuff, but it hasn't resonated with me the way I thought it would.
I love the band name, I love the album title, I love the artwork (I love the font!), I have friends who love them - I like what I've read about BoC, and when I hear them referenced anywhere, I feel a warm smug glow because I know who they are... but bloody hell, it's a bit boring, isn't it? It just sounds like everything else by everyone else just like them. I feel like I could probably make a record like this on my phone if I had time to kill. It's a shame, that really is a nice font.
This is kind of funny. I was just listening to a random album drop that came out today of eurorack generated ambient music. I made it 35 minutes and needed something more melodic so I decided to jump over the the albums project and got this album which actually sounds so similar to what I was just listening to. This stuff was so eerie and kind of bad-trippy hahaha. Honestly I didn't really care for it very much and it's possible it's because I was already burnt out on ambient electronic music.
Getting this only a week or so after Aphex Twin, doesn't help this snorefest score. Sure it's meant to be somewhat ambient but still it has so little to offer.
Boreds of Canada
Какая-то тупая долбёжка и странное клацанье. Две звезды ставлю только за некоторые потуги на адекватные биты.
Doesn't really go anywhere, but more than just random sounds. Again not my genre.
atmospheric and electronic... not my thing
Ambient electronic, not very interesting
Pretty weird, not my cup of tea. I think ambient music can be better.
This is fine but it’s not my cup of tea.
I kept waiting for something to happen. It didn't
Boring.
Too slow
Ambient music has always been less inherently interesting to me than music with lyrics, or even just, you know, melody. This wasn't unpleasant sounding, and it can build quite an interesting atmosphere, but it's also not really attention-holding, and is a very long album. I wouldn't mind having this sort of thing on in the background while doing some work that required me to not be distracted by my background music. But when you're trying to think of positives about a piece of art and fall back on the utility of it for getting other stuff done, it sort of tells you everything you need to know
Okay, another album of electronica. Like out of the corner of my eye if I slap on a track I groove on it for a bit, but once I get to 3-4 in a row I get bored. The inventiveness of this saves it to a 2.5, but I can't go above 2 for the album.
Weird vibe, not for me. But not completely unpleasant
This definitely sounds like the precursor to things like chillhop lofi music that I listen to all the time. However, there are some parts of the album that made me pause the music and stop for a little because it was a bit too much. However, I can definitely tell this is a highly inspirational album.
First time listening to this group and this music. I liked the beginning of some of the songs, but the music became quickly repetitive, so what I liked in the beginning changed to just mediocre noise/sound. Most of the music was instrumental although in a few tracks there were words spoken out but not really sung. Not a big fan.
Not for me. Likely because I am not a vampire coming down in the chill room of a blood rave.
Didn’t bother me but didn’t move me. This record is very beloved in some circles but I never took to it
Is board spelled B O R E D?
This was one of the longest, most boring albums I had to go through in this challenge. Damn it, It was so boring. Ambiental, electronic and boring. It wasn't unlistenable, that's why it's a 2/5
This was a tough listen. Very boring and uninspired. Soulless, overlong computer programmer noodling. I listened to some similar stuff in the late 90s, early 2000s, but more sample-based and I quickly realized it was the music those people were sampling that truly intetested me, so off I went to 60s and 70s funk, soul, jazz and library music and never looked back.
High-tech telephone hold music.
Música electrónica difícil de escuchar. No me interesa
Kind of boring and didn’t really resonate with me at all. Made decent background music though I suppose.
What if we got reallllly high and made money off of it
As songs or moments it’s pretty cool, as an album it’s fucked up.
Ambient not exciting at all
Muzak.
I enjoy my fair share of electronic/ambient music but I kinda thought the songs were mainly boring. The more interesting songs were only a minute long so i was kind of disappointed. I'm sure this album is great for sampling though.
You can appreciate something’s existence without really liking it 2/5
picks: roygbiv, pete standing alone
If this music did have children they are probably the weird ones that sit by themselves in the corner with the cat ear shaped headphones
I appreciated this as a disinfectant aucun that inspired lots of other music, but want really my thing, also thought it was too long
Alright, I like the music and the synths but overall kinda boring
++: Wildlife Analysis, An Eagle in Your Mind, Sixtyten, Kaini Industries, Aquarius, Happy Cycling +: The Color of the Fire, Turquoise Hexagon Sun, Roygbiv, Smokes Quantity, One Very Important Thought +-: Triangles & Rhombuses, Bocuma, Rue the Whirl, Olson, Pete Standing Alone, Open the Light -: Telephasic Workshop 5,5/10
Alright electronic album. Good background filler.
There are a few good moments here but most is a bit meh. 2.5 stars
Not a whole lot to it.
I couldn’t settle into anything pleasing g listening to this album. It seemed maybe always on the cusp of having something to say sonically, then didn’t get the words out.
Boreds of Canada. I’m the only one to make that joke, I’m sure of it.
2.5 Man idk this is my third electronica album in one week and they were all over an hour long and ponderous and maybe I’d like them more if I had more space in between but the algorithm is a fickle beast. In theory I think this is one of the better ones I’ve listened to but I also found it kind of frustratingly twee? How do you make electronica music twee? These guys did it. After it ended Spotify autoplayed other electronica/ambient/noise songs and I thought all of them were better than this.
Decent ambient music
Cool stuff, but the heavy synth work like this is just a total turn off for me. Barely made it through, glad I did, will not be looking further into it
Music like this always reminds me of 90s demo disc background music. Like I should be listening to this when loading up Virtual Pool on the PS1
Dull and uninspiring
What a strange ethereal album.
This was not interesting enough to be over an hour (2).
what is going on here? il y en a quelques unes que je n’ai pas détesté, limite que j’ai apprécié en tant que musique de fond. mais le reste est disturbing
I can't think of a single scenario where anyone would sit down and listen to this by choice. Downer electronica is not it for me.
pretty boring for me, made well enough for a 2 star Will I listen to again: 1%
Reduce the tracks on this down to 50-75% of their current runtime and I could vibe with it.
Passable as a film score, skipable as a stand alone.
There are some good vibes here. But not enough to sustain its long runtime. In the right mindset and atmosphere, I could see myself enjoying this more. If I was listening to this while going on a drive or a walk on a rainy fall day, it might be a 4 star album.
Enjoyable enough, but not nothing particularly stood out throughout. I can only assume that it was important at the time. Inoffensive, but I won't be returning to it.
It was background music while I worked - didn’t draw enough attention to itself for me to give it a single star. Still not good and don’t need to listen to it again.
Eigentli na spannend. Mit de Ziit sehr monoton.

I liked this for a while. Then it just...kept...going. In brief intervals, this would be fine, but it felt more like music played in a Gap in the early 00s. It's fine. Just not for me...most of the time.
This isn't Canadian! I am not someone who likes ambient or background music.
I just don’t like electronic, but for what it’s worth it wasn’t the worst electronic I’ve ever heard
Very average. Down tempo atmospheric electronic. Not my vibe.
I had a couple listens to this album. It was an intriguing and captivating listen. It was great to have it play in the background, there is no real melodies, no real distractions. The music reminds me more of the captivation I have with wind chimes. There is no real predictability to them, it's sporadic, it's susceptible to the randomness of wind gusts. Yet despite this you can listen to it in the background while still being focussed on something else. In this sense this album has some healing properties and is good if you just want something to play in the background while you knock out a deadline or pull some weeds for that matter. If I were to find this in an album create for a low price I would pick it up to put on while doing unfettered tasks at home.
I think my favorite part of this album was the name. I'm not sure what exactly makes this a must listen to album. Perhaps this is another instance of being a product of its time but unless this was literally the first instrumental electronic album ever made (which it might be) I don't see it. Without the context of it being a top 1001 album I likely would have felt differently. All that being said, I still enjoyed the listen because it does cater to my biases, it's just fairly muted, like a watered down Aphex Twin. Also discovered I've had "Roygbiv" on one my my old playlists from almost a decade ago. My thoughts are a bit everywhere with this album. I can't quite decide whether I like it or dislike it. As I'm re-listening to tracks it is starting to grow on me, but my initial impression still stands. Favorite Track: Roygbiv i guess
some genuinely tight beats, but it's really long and the vocal samples are almost without exception, annoying.
There is nothing wrong with this album except for the fact it is extremely boring. Pleasant enough. But boooorrrrinnnnggggggg.
It didn't really click for me, I did not find it as interesting as other Electronic records.
1.8
Not offensive or difficult to listen to at all, but all a bit one dimensional electronic for my taste.
Not for me.
too long man. but pretty kewl at certain times but other times i just killed myself.
nah Ned so meins
I've made two attempts to listen to this, but it still hasn't clicked for me.
Music to study by. Or work in a spreadsheet. Or something like that. Only I’d probably put on lo-fi hip hop beats before this.
There wasn't much here for me. I forgot I was listening to it at one point.
Nuda z komputera. Najpierw ta płyta była irytująca, potem nużąca a na końcu całkowicie nijaka. Elektronika to chyba mój najmniej lubiany gatunek, ale czasem nawet w niej potrafię znaleźć jakieś perełki. A tu znowu jakieś robotyczno-kosmiczna monotonia. 3/10 i błagam nigdy więcej.
I have called albums soundtracks before. I don't know if it's the right way to put it but to me it sounds like a soundtrack to being alone. It tries to pluck at some feelings which it doesn't always succeed at. But it tries.
Downtempo is one of my least fsvourite subgenres of electronic music. This is not bad, but really boring. 2.5 stars
2.5
Mostly just dull. Not great but not terrible. Dull.
One of the pluses of this exercise is “one & done”. I’ll never have to choose to listen to this album again.
There are a couple of songs that would make good hiphop beats in here, but as a 70 minute album it's an absolute snoozer
Great album when look for music to cut commercials to in the early to mid 2000s. Or maybe good music to write to, but not a great album to listen to from start to finish as a music exercise.
Not my type of music
#535. Dumb. 2/5: no
2 - pretty boring. Roygbiv was kinda cool tho
Not a fan of electronic music
Nothing. That's what I felt when listening to this. I'll give it a +1 for it's pro-free speech message.
2/5
Boring
Often when I watch shows on streaming services and in lieu of commercials they will have some sort of title screen displayed with nondescript music playing in the background. Many of these songs remind me of that music. I’m partial to track 13 as it is my last name.
Not my kind of music - too experimental
The longer the album went on, the more bored I got. One idea that was done over and over.
Not a big fan of electrical music, haven’t finished the album but can’t say they will make it to the playlist
Ambient electronic that didn't do much of anything for me. Easily forgettable. I know the band name, but not sure why I know it if the rest of their work was anything like this
I love electronic music. Tried to love this album, but it just wants to be weird (esp. The Color of the Fire - what's up with that???). I had had enough by the time that I got to Sixtyten and shut it down.
I listened to quite a bit of this type of music back in the early naughties. Though I never heard of this duo, probably because there are much better representatives of the genre, for example "A reminiscent drive".
If I ran a restaurant with a certain vibe, I could see this album being on in the background.
2.3 Didnt keep my interest very much
Not sure I got it. Spraint is a real word, like holt--they have the right to appear in a song. The techno trip hop okay for background. But that's all I can give it. (Especially now that the trade war has made Canadian boards so expensive Go! MAGA!!)
This was fine, I guess. But by the fourth song I realized I wanted to listen to something (anything) else. So I did.
ehhhh. this was okayyy. i don’t know. i agree with elanor it was very eery and not very fun. some of the sounds were cool, but we can do better chat
Not bad but hell. This broke the streak.
Bit dull
70 minutes of nothing remarkable. Just electronic background music. 1,5
Well, it’s not terrible but it is quite repetitive and dull, and a lot of the tracks don’t really develop into anything. It really reminds me of menu background music from a sci-fi video game.
Eh alright background noise, nothing special, didn't particularly enjoy it.
The Temu-version of DJ Shadow
The faceless humans on the cover indicate a lack of identity, which is a problem this albums also suffers from. And 1h11min wtf.
Chill enough. But a tad too minimal for my taste.
Not great
Not really my thing. At times kind of a lo-fi sound and sometimes more of a hip hop beat. Not necessarily bad, just not for me. 2/5 Won’t listen again
Kinda haunted and creepy. And taken with the cover and title, I feel like the children will be the music’s meal.
Cool beats, I guess.
I know this is a legendary album but I really did not care for a single song. I typically dig ambient, droney, or slower stuff but this felt frankly sluggish.
Meh. A little too atmospheric for my taste, but I recognize the first song.
se eu quero ouvir música assim, eu passo o dia no elevador ou numa clinica médica
Not my taste.. too weird somehow
There are some fascinating sounds, voices, and more throughout this album. It reminds me of autumn and leaves rustling in the background.
Interesting, I suppose. Glad to find out the final track was "bonus" track and free myself from listening to it
never heard of this duo and i don’t think i needed to. a 2 based on not hating life listening to it but halfway through i realized it was on still and was like “is this still going?” could i write poetry to this? n
Not a fan of this style of music. Most of the instruments want to be in meditation music to be played at a spa, but the drums and bass want to be bopping at the club. In what setting is this enjoyable?
Never heard of them. Not bad music. Alternative/Eleectronic
beats and bleeps
A better album title would have been Robot Sounds Rejected by X-Files. A little bit ambient, slightly techno, mostly weird in a “hey, join our cult” way.
Boring. 2.5/5
Album 652 of 1001 Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children (1998) Rating : 2 / 5 More of the electronica I just don't really care for. Much of this is pretty calming and quite serene but doesn't get the musical juices flowing.
Elektronisk, hypnosemusik, lidt for repetitivt
Not bad. Electronic music is not usually my thing. This provided a nice calm background noise for my days work. As an employee who walked in and heard it playing said, "It sounds like the music on a video game menu scree." Pretty acurate.
A second day in a row of electronic music, terrific. This one just wasn’t doing it for me.
Pleasantly weird but ultimately boring beep boop sounds.
I imagine that AI music will end up sounding a bit like this, broken and disjointed, as it increasingly learns from other AI songs in an incestuous downward spiral. I highly doubt that it would manage to have the ambience and consistent tonal quality to hold it all together that this album does though. Does that make this album decades ahead of the curve? Only time will tell. If only some of the people on the cover had six fingers. This album is unique in it's own way, sounding simultaneously ethereal, creepy, melancholic and psychedelic. Unfortunately I didn't really enjoy this album, although I can see why others would.
Good ambient background music. That being said, not noteworthy in any way.
Long and fairly annoying.
This has good moments, but is way too long to the point where I lost interest in the good parts as they arose throughout the back half of the album.
i like a lot of chill electronica, but I did not like this!
Instantly forgettable
Weird. Sounds could be background for sci-fi movie. Counting to sounds is NOT music.
By 1998 I expect more from electronic music
I have tried to get into Boards of Canada for over a decade now and it's never clicked with me. Maybe I just don't like ambient music or whatever it is but it always comes off as boring elevator background music with repetitive beats. This didn't click with me either. If you do like downtempo or ambient electronic music I would suggest Tipper, especially his album Broken Soul Jamboree. It's phenomenal and I can't imagine that any of his music is on this list, despite him being British.
This is alright, if I were huffing airduster in a cool-off tent at a rave. Nothing really inspiring about this low-fi trip-hop, just good background stuff. I'll give this a 2.
This one brings back memories of editing digital maps for hours at a time. It's good music to listen to while doing a more mundane repetitive task. At the same time though I remember Boards being lower in my ranking of this type of music. I have them paired up with the likes of Tycho, Washed Out, FM Attack and Com Truise. Not a bad album but also not the most interesting.
Electronic music. Not my go-to. Would probably be nice for some back-ground, easy listening, white-noise type of music, but on my commute, it was putting me to sleep.
Yuck
Bit twee and not my cup of tea
mmmmmmmm
Some moments that don’t require drugs to appreciate. But not many.
I really don't like this kind of music. Although it has its value, it doesn't really tell me anything.
Ick
Decent album, not my kind of music, but nice and chill. I could use this music to fall Asleep.
nope
Bored of Canada
i kind of like parts of it . The tracks with more vocal samples work better , and the others feel like unfinished sketches/ demos. 2.5
Pointless muzak.
Good but weird.
Escuché un par de temas. Debo admitir que no me dieron muchas ganss de seguirlo, demasiado experimental
Instrumental
Great tunes if you want to fall asleep while driving!
Well that was incredibly boring.
would trip tf out if I listened to this any type of inebriated. additionally, this has zero business being over 70 minutes long
Quite dull
There isn’t really anything wrong with it, it’s just boring as hell
..
Fine as background music, but not really my thing to listen to on its own.
Synth enormi, ricerca dei suoni davvero interessante. Poi per il resto vanno capiti, come gran parte dell'elettronica. Io non li capisco bene.
Was always curious about this one but was left cold
There are times when you come across a piece of art and think to yourself "I just don't get it". This was one of those times for me. Might be nice background music for reading.
Meh.
My immediate thought on rolling it was "oh no, not another one of these." But this is considerably better than the Fatboy Slim kind of stuff earlier in the list. It's still too ambient and light for my taste, but I got through it and didn't mind listening to it. You can hear the influence some places, like I can especially hear it in Radiohead. It sounds a lot like early-2000s Radiohead, although pretty much just the songs that I don't like that much. At the same time, I'd just as soon listen to some mid-tier dungeon synth.
Viel versucht, wenig erreicht
Rating: 5/10 Meh. Choice cut: Roygbiv
I started out curious, but that faded to disinterest by about track 2. Gets better (less objectionable) in the second half. Passable as ambient background sound, but others do it better. Music to drown out office noise.
More like bored of Canada. Inoffensive background music
Why are all electronic albums so boring. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Wacky muziek
They’re not bad per se, just incredibly dull
2/5 - Just…nah.
It’s good electronic music. I don’t know if I’d listen again though.
Background music that isn't really my sound.
I guess there’s a time and place for everything, but this album being included in the list is just silly. Sound loops and samples. No real structure to songs. And way too long.
Definitely didn’t feel the need to get through all of this one. Sorta got the point right away. No idea what makes this so special
More background music. Can set a mood but as long as you don’t notice it or pay too much attention, it’s fine. To me that doesn’t mean a great album and I just can’t rate any of these above a 2. I did recognize Roygbiv…so there’s that. 1.5
I’m sure this is a totally fine album in the beep/boop music genre. Just not my cup of tea. Too long and little variety. I found myself skipping tracks out of boredom. 2/5
Great music to put in the background at a nice low volume. And by low volume I mean 0
This mostly just sounded like noises but it was a pleasant car album
Nope, Music Has The Right To Children is not for me. Half of it sounds like the sort of interlude nonsense nu-metal bands chucked onto their 2000s albums to pad it out, and the other half sounds like what happens when robots have orgasms. Rescue from this run of disappointing 2s; this one's lucky to get a 2 at all.
Yeah, I don't get this either. Ambient stuff, nothing particularly different from other ambient stuff we've had except this one grabbed me even less. Have heard it a couple of times through, and am now listening to Oxygene again because that does what this does so much better. 2/5.
From the UK? Check! Some kind of electronic music? Check! Put it on the list! I remember hearing about these guys in name only, having worked somewhere that I was introduced to all the 90s and early 2000s hipster favorites by my lovably hip colleagues. I'm sure I listened to Boards of Canada some back then but they never left an impression, apparently. Still don't.
trippy
No.
These guys have listened to a lot of Kraftwerk and decided to do their own. With mixed results. Doesn't really stand on its own feet, and the bits that are not obviously Kraftwerk-esque aren't that convincing, really. Kosmischer Läufer does a better job of emulating Kraftwerk while still being more than just an hommage.
I get what they were trying to do here, and it was an impressively ambitious undertaking, but it was a swing and a miss for me. I didn’t feel like I was listening to music - more like a string of noise, and I just couldn’t get into it. Fascinating to hear though
Monotonous and not very tuneful. The music is strange enough to work as background music for something like Adult Swim's Off the Air or a similar show, but as for straight up listening to it, no thanks.
The idea of this album intrigues me a lot, especially as a general fan of electronic music. In practice, though, I’m quite literally not high enough to enjoy it. If I’m going to be forced to listen to IDM, I’d prefer Burial, Aphex Twin, or Autechre — people who don’t become germophobes the second they’re around an actual beat. And while Music Has the Right to Children does have a few fleeting moments where Boards of Canada back into an actual groove, it’s never fully developed. I also just don’t care for Lo-Fi Beats to Chill and Study To, no matter how cool it may be that they’re using a bunch of vintage synths and tape machines. Influential as it may be, this is really not my vibe.
I think it's lo-fi but it's not my kind
There are some redeeming qualities, but not many.
Très musique d'ambiance.
I usually like Electronica, but this was too "flat" for me, nothing outstanding or notable. Maybe ok as background music, but that's it.
It was ok as background music but less so for a car trip - perhaps suitable for a different kind of trip?!
At first it annoyed me but it grew on me by the end. Still on the negative side of my enjoyment scale.
Ugh. Is it just me, or is there too much electronica on this list?
I don't typically find this style of music very engaging and this wasn't an exception.
On paper a cool idea and album, but fell flat unfortunately. Off to a terrible start with extremely repetitive and boring songs. Somewhere in the middle it became decent, with the album high of 'Roygbiv' which was a really cool song that I will listen more to, and some other nice tracks that followed. But the end was also pretty weak if I recall correctly, so overall pretty bad experience.
A bit of a boring slog of an album. Sure it's chill to leave on in the background but nothing really stood out. The start was pretty bad but I think it found its groove towards the middle. A few fun songs here and there (eg. "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" and "Roygbiv") but as a whole not too impressed.
Good nap album
‘The Color of Fire’ was a bit eerie. Not really my vibe but not bad
che fatica arrivare alle fine aiutooo, nel complesso però non malissimissimo
Sarebbe 2.5 ma non l’ho trovato abbastanza interessante
Nothing grabbed my attention. Just felt like nice inoffensive background music you’d play at a mall or something
Not bad as background music
Låt 3 lytet lite men vente. Blev inte jättebra det här. Kanske gjorde Roygbiv det lite bättre.
Nja. Lite för trist. Gillar ju elektronisk musik. Men detta var för "stämningsfullt" på ett dåligt sätt.
Too long. It works as background tunes, but to sit down and invest in it was too much for me to follow.
You may be fooled into thinking this band hails from North America and what with the author(s) penchant for shoving mediocre UK electronic brit pop down your throat you'd be surprised. Well, nice try. This Scottish duo snuck onto the list, but their little art-house experiment in electronic music didn't sway me. I don't know how we ended up here, but I blame Daft Punk and Kraftwerk for influencing these people to think they could do something. But don't let the fact that Boards of Canada are the product of the 'everybody wins' generation. If their parents hadn't told them how great their little drum loop expansion kits were we wouldn't be subjected to this trite electronic nuisance. 2/5
Bored of Canada. like most ambient, just repetitive beats from a machine. I guess I should have listened at a lower volume to truly make it ambient, maybe would have gotten a higher score.
Bleeps and boops and clicks and whistles from the chill out tent. I feel like I like this album more in concept than in practice.
was about to turn off the album after two randomly selected songs because I truly didn't hear a second that was a "must-listen" or just generally in any way creative or interesting. luckily for boards of canada, I clicked on Roygbiv in an attempt to give this album one last chance and it turned out to be a pretty cool tune that I've actually heard before. this elevates the album to 1.5 stars – without Roygbiv, it would've certainly been a 1.
Nada ofensivo, mas absolutamente chato e desinteressante. Não tenho nada contra música instrumental, mas isso aqui é pura e simplesmente música ambiente, com raras exceções de ideias que se destacam Fav tracks: An Eagle In Your Mind, Roygbiv, Pete Standing Alone Least fav track: Smokes Quantity
spooky techno. kind of meh and creepy
I like electronic music. However, this album was way too long and seemed quite monotonous in many places. Added sound effects/voices really did not add much to this as they were too repetitive(grated on my nerves to hear over and over)
Not the most exciting or interesting electronic music if i'm honest. Nothing really stood out to me, however it was a nice album to listen to on the plane while i was reading a book.
Meh.
Not really into this.
If "chill beats to work/study to" was an album (and that's exactly what I did while listening to it, but it didn't help my enjoyment).
Maybe it was revolutionary when it came out, but for electronic music, I found it underwhelming.
Having a 7 minute song where you add a random sound onse every 2 minutes but don't do anything else to make it interesting does not qualify as good music to me. A song like Roygbiv is still enjoyable, mostly because it is short and doesn't drag on into eternity like the rest. Still not great though.
Interesting sounds but feels hollow to me. I don’t connect well with the melodies, I guess. Seems like it was a pioneer for this sound, and I love that.
Feels like the album to listen to at 30k feet looking out the window at a sunrise, but I was in the car and lost interest
A friend once recommended this band/album and raved about it, but I failed to see what all the fuss was about - still don't
Music has a right to nothing... got bored
never heard of this album or duo before. there was one song i didn’t mind (“the color of the fire”), some i absolutely hated (those unfortunately happened to be the longer ones), and the rest were so boring and sounded the same
Boring. Skippable. Periodically annoying. Hard pass.
Dated, yes. Boring and sophomoric in nature. Kraftwerk, a German group had it right two decades earlier.
Lo-fi is not my cup of tea
Blind album and artist. A weird techno acid trip is what this felt like and I am not a huge fan of it.
Das experimentelle an dieser Musik gefällt mir. Ein ziemlich intensives Hörerlebnis. 4.3/10
a unique mix of IDM with a lot of ambience and a lot of psychedelia. a couple of tracks i quite like with more accessible electronic elements. however I found the rest a little eerie and weird for my liking. not gold the whole way through like all of kraftwerk's discography, my preferred electronic music.
Speciaal, heel ambient zoals verwacht. Niet mijn ding
musique d'ambiance. très dur de juger réellement. pas horrible mais très forgettable. la mauvaise note est plus basée sur le coté forgettable que la qualité 4.5/10
Without any interesting sounds or emotionally evoking parts, electronic music will be boring, no matter how atmospheric it is.
meh sort of Chill/house music. Nothing to really write home about.
Blah boring floaty mish mash
electronic? music percussion gets annoying
Based on the first couple tracks, I wanted it to be more ambient and natural than it ended up being. It ended up more industrial and percussive, which created a cool experience on a night drive but began feeling too drawn out. I ending up thinking of music I would rather have to listened to (The Avalanches, Polo & Pan). I was wondering though how groundbreaking of an album it was upon release. 3.5/10
A few nice moments (e.g., Open The Light) save this from getting only 1 star, but it is mostly a boring slog.
To me, this album is like when you try and listen to someone explain a concept to you several times but you just cant grasp it. This went way over my head, also the genre just isnt for me. Felt really meandering and repetetive.
If you’re looking to space out for almost 90 minutes because every song sounds the same… brother have I got the album for you!
Not very memorable, works as a background music
not interesting
I think some of the tracks towards the end were alright, but overall just didn’t vibe with it.
It’s like not unpleasant waiting room music at a dentist that you don’t mind seeing because she uses lots of nitrous oxide.
Kinda feel like I need to listen to this whilst on something. Not really my jam at all tbh.
i was so excited by the first two tracks and the wonderfully enticing tracklist before this fizzled out into ambient experimental electronica. not much substance, i thought. my quest for that perfect misty forest in early october record drives on.
I'm sure this is good for someone who enjoys this genre of music, but alas...I just don't get it!
I’ve listened to similar things. This is just not as good.
Bleep bleep. Laid back electronica, but it's not Kraftwerk!
4/10. Could've been a pleasant, if dull little album, but noooo they had to add in sounds of seagulls and some guy saying "orange"
Roygbiv is the only interesting song in the bunch
