Reviews (page 7 of 9)

It's the Beach Boys, you get what you expect. Nice tunes, good harmonies, pleasant lyrics. All nice, but nothing exceptional. Nice easy listening 3.

The beginnings of Brian Wilson's move into experimental use of instrumentation. Yes it sounds lame to modern ears, but at the time it was pretty groundbreaking. Some really good tunes and everyone must surely love 'Help Me Rhonda'?

A very ok album. Funny that this is commonly cited as one of the best albums of all time. A solid 2.5/5 -> 3/5.

Canciones como "When I Grow Up" o "She Knows Me Too Well" hablan de la incertidumbre adolescente por el futuro o del amor. "Please Let Me Wonder" es una de las canciones destacadas del álbum.

Classic beach boys. Some interesting songs about being mean to women lol

My first Beach Boys album, I’ve only heard the hits before. Great harmonies but everything sounds the same after 3 songs

there's probably a joke to be made here about white noise and wall of sound, but i can't quite get there. shoutout to this album for frontloading the recognizable hits so i could drift off into beats to study and relax to mode. 2.5

Help Me Rhonda really carries this

Idk why this ended with a mukbang

The instrumentation is interesting though occasionally irritating such as the percussion in “Help Me Rhonda”. This isn’t my favorite Beach Boys record but is okay.

I'd give this a 2.5 but rounding up

This will be my second Beach Boys album to review, after Surf's Up (I've also reviewed Smile and Pacific Ocean Blue). I'm pretty familiar with The Beach Boys' pre-Pet Sounds hits, but this is my first time to listen to an album from that era. I thought this album was fine. The harmonies were fantastic as usual, but the songwriting and arrangements were more often so-so than noteworthy. I found the side one songs to be more enjoyable than side two. "Do You Wanna Dance?" had some great guitar playing, and I enjoyed the piano playing as well. The overall sound was rich, and the lyrics, although not particularly noteworthy, were really fun and enriched by the harmonies. "When I Grow Up" was probably my favorite song on the album. I loved the lyrics, and how it explored the thoughts that can swim through your head as you enter adulthood. Even as a man nearing forty, these themes are still things I think about. The overall song structure and the counting up of the backing vocals were fantastic, and really drove the theme of the song home. "Help Me, Rhonda" was great too, and I loved the way the song faded in and out during the outro. The harmonies on the chorus are some of my favorite in all of the Beach Boys' discography. That song always reminds me of a pastor at the church I went to as a teenager, who used to say "Help Me, Rhonda" as an expression of mild exasperation. While that church overall sucked, that always made me laugh. The second half of the album was a bit dull in my opinion. The harmonies were still great, and there were some nice arrangements, but there really wasn't anything else that stuck out to me. Even though this album was pretty middle of the road, it was nice to listen to it in the context of being the immediate predecessor to Pet Sounds, and for that reason, I can understand why it's on this list.

Surf music at its peak. I don’t think I really need to explain this album anymore. If you don’t know who The Beach Boys are….well….I’m not sure you’ll like them then. I do. It’s not Pet Sounds but it is their sound. Choice Cut: Help Me Rhonda

Interesting transitional stuff between early Beach Boys and Pet Sounds. Not that stellar though

A quite enjoyable selection for a genre I'm typically not fond of. Very well composed and a lot of tasty sounds. Enjoying this more on first listen than Pet Sounds, though that album has a LOT of hype around it that may have influenced my first impressions.

Shouldn't it be Beach Boy?

Not their best work but the melody’s as usual are great

Liked, like Beatles, fun, active album

calkiem sympatyczny

wow.. Das ging schnell. Es ist das drin, was draufsteht: Beachboys. Riesiger Wiedererkennungswert und eine nette Begleitung in den morgen. Holt mich nicht komplett ab, ist aber angenehm gewesen. Klassische 3/5.

Very difficult to respect/hear serious lyrics with the beachy falsetto harmonies and light instrumentation.

Help me Rhonda! get her outta my heart. Timely for this album to pop up. I have a new appreciation for The Beach Boys. However, when people talk about how much better music was then VS now are they considering this repetitive stuff? The music is fun and easy to listen to but is it really deep and great lyrically. No.

Fun 60s album with a few recognizable tracks.

I want to like the Beach Boys. I'm still not sure if I do.

pretty standard beach boys. middle of the road

As with most Beach Boys albums, it was pretty decent.

The opening of this album is like some sort of 60s Americana dream of a young man’s thoughts and ambitions. As deep as a puddle it stands as some sort of time capsule almost parody esque to a time that I’m not sure ever existed quite like it’s sung. The closing 3 tracks however hit you with this wonderful multilayered impressive sound that speaks more to the beach boys legacy as artists. If you had to listen to the back half and forget rest.

I've always been focused on their early singles, exemplified in their popular early 70's compilation Endless Summer. It was the traveling soundrack to my early childhood as it was one of the 8 track albums that was played in the RV camper we used as we traveled around the US. I hadn't listened to a full album of theirs until the last 5 years with Pet Sounds, and even that was a tough listen which eventually grew on me enough to truly appreciate what a spectacular album that is. This album seems to pale in comparison, although they are moving a little beyond surfing and cars with this one, with some of the melodic complexity coming into focus that would come into full bloom with their next album, Pet Sounds. Harmonies are as lush as ever, but my older perspective reflects on the almost painfully simplistic or naive lyrics, it just feels white-bread and dated. My bias remains with Brian singing lead. Favorites - Help Me Rhonda, Dance Dance Dance, She Knows Me Too Well.

ça a faite son temps

silly and short 3/5

I liked the vocals and the instrumentals, lyrics were weaker though, I enjoyed listening but probably won’t listen again for a while

Thoughts before listening: The Beach Boys are great. They released some of the best songs of their time which have remained staples for 60+ years. That being said, outside of Pet Sounds, you never hear about individual albums. They're mostly a singles band with their greatest hits compilations being the typical go to. Looking at the tracklist on this album, it seems like there are only a couple well known songs. Not sure I need to hear an album of Beach Boys deep cuts, but here we go. Review: This is fine. As an album I like it as much as Pet Sounds in that it's a mix of incredible songs and others that just don't do it for me. Apparently this was the band's first album after Brian Wilson went into his non-touring exile where he focused on songcraft and production over everything else. That era produced some absolute classics, but it also wasn't as \"fun\" as the earlier surf rock songs. The first song here is one of my favorites in \"Do You Wanna Dance?\", although I know the Ramones version better than the Beach Boys. Other highlights include \"When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)\", \"Help Me Rhonda\", \"Dance Dance Dance\", and \"Please Let Me Wonder\". The rest of the album is pleasant enough but too slow to really do much for me. I'll match my Pet Sounds rating and also give this 3-stars.

Yep...thats deffo the beach boys, its fine but exactly what you'd expect and not really for me

The A side of this album makes its successor, Pet Sounds, seem like divine revelation. The B side begins to bring out what makes The Beach Boys special. All in all, it’s a bit of a wash.

In the age-old debate over The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, I have always chosen a Third Coast – The Beach Boys. Unfortunately, my adoration for the group has always excluded this album. Today! is a record of historical importance more than anything, not only for the band, but for music overall. It’s basically the blueprint for the Pop/Rock Album, and the production techniques and compositions cannot be overstated. But albums like this often feel like homework. The real question is: are there exceptional songs? Are they enjoyable beyond their historic significance? Is it in frequent rotation in my house? And I personally answer “well, no, not really” to all those questions. Now, if you’re wondering if these songs are compositionally good, then yes, it’s the fucking Beach Boys. Even the bad songs are well-written. But unlike the albums before this, it’s not kitsch and ridiculous despite its dated sound; it’s just dated, and as a result, it comes across as stale. And unlike the albums that came after it, it’s not consistently throwing gorgeous arrangements and flawless songs at you; it’s “getting there,” but it’s far from consistent. There’s a handful of bright moments, especially in the middle, but they aren’t frequent enough to warrant the rest of the album acceptable. In fact, it’s trying so hard to be “great” that the majority of it ends up feeling forgettable, and some songs aren’t even fleshed out enough to draw you in and be listenable, not just by modern standards, but by the standards of 1965. I’ve tried so hard to see what others see, both today and in years past. And there’s moments where I start to warm to it. Side A starts off weak and uninspired but by “Don’t Hurt…” I start to find The Beach Boys I know and love, even though arguably none of these songs are particular high water-marks in the full scope of their career, excluding “Help Me Rhonda,” even if I love “When I Grow Up.” But then Side B, even though it starts okay, it just…Like, I get *why* the orchestration matters historically, but it’s all so bland and insipid. And then, it ends on the most banal chit-chat in all of recording history up to that point!! Honestly, “Bull Session” is so infuriating, it fuels my dislike more. In the end, while “hate” is a strong term, I can’t say I love or even really like this album. Even when it’s close, it’s never close enough, and that’s why I never relisten to it in full. I’m honestly upset to admit this, because there’s not *enough* Beach Boys on this list imo, so my apathy towards this will inherently make it look like I hate the band overall. But I also can’t lie. Sure, it deserves to be in the book, and it isn’t a worthless listen if you haven’t tried before, but it’s not something I’ll revisit much in full, if ever, and I’ll only pull a couple of songs off of it. It’s a bridge, a piece of history, but I don’t care for bridges or history much if I don’t actually enjoy it.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Brian Wilson makes good music.

C’est correct, l’enregistrement des burgers à la fin remonte l’album d’un tit peu

it's pretty beach boys stuff that all blends together. somewhere between a two and three. it's good for what it is, but forgettable.

Pleasant and very stylised as you would imagine. Very competently produced, sung and orchestrated but is there any depth above and beyond a desire to sell records? I suspect not.

There are some very good songs on here. For whatever reason, the Manson connection establishes a very clear ceiling on their oeuvre for me. I liked this, but I could never see myself getting super into it.

I am a sucker for harmonizing

Short fun album

Always nice to listen to, not my absolute favorite though

6 / 10 Beach Boys en estado puro. Lo que hacen, lo hacen perfecto, pero más de una canción cansa bastante.

this is exactly what i would expect from a random beach boys album

Early Beach Boys. Good sound but not fully developed into the phenomenon they would become in Pet Sounds. Easy 50’s / 60’s sounds.

Mike Love’s said that Bull Session With ‘Big Daddy’ was included as a way to ‘lighten the mood’ of The Beach Boys, which is just a further example of how much of a shit Mike Love is. It’s in there because without it, the album would only be 25 minutes long, which was OK a year or two previously, but which didn’t work now that artists like The Beatles and the Kinks were raising the game on what Pop albums could be. Also, lighten the mood from what Mike? You’re not singing The Velvet Underground here, you’re singing about dancing and how spoiled your little sister is. It’s not exactly Heroin. Musically this is fine. I’ve never been a big fan of The Beach Boys harmonies, they always sounded a bit shrill to me, but in theory they’re fine. I prefer the pastiche Doo-Wop of the second half to the more upbeat first side. It’s aged better, some of it would pass for late 2010’s Indie Pop at points. If I try to turn off the analytical part of my brain, and just pretend that I’m an American Teenager in 65, then I can see why this would be popular. I’m white, I’ve got nothing more to worry about than girls, exams, and the ever-present threat of nuclear holocaust, and suddenly I really enjoy this album. But it does not work 60 years down the line

Quick fun album, just so easygoing, both lyrically and their sound. Kind of enjoyed the banter at the end of the album helps to humanize and relate to the members. 3.1

Лучшая песня - When I Grow Up (To Be a Man).

Never heard this record before, but it was a nice listen, almost dream-like with its ambient sound. Favourite tracks: Do You Wanna Dance?, Don't Hurt My Little Sister, Help Me, Rhonda, I'm So Young.

It's got one song on it that you get to listen to a dozen times, but it's a good song

The Beach Boys Today! is the eighth album by the American rock band the Beach Boys. Instead of surf songs, this album has an orchestral rock sound which was their first try at something different. An early rock concept album that showed the band could create one of the greatest albums of all time. It is a more mature record than their previous ones as a result of not only the band growing up, but songwriter Brian Wilson becoming introspective and trying marijuana which enhanced his perception of music. Everything was recorded bigger and deeper with more musicians and doubled-up instruments, in addition to more vocal dubs and better mixing. Critics raved about the second side of Today! which contains ballads and is a startling change considering the band's past music. This album has been certified gold in the US. This is an epic Beach Boys album, with a significant change to their songwriting and production style. It was this fresh style change that made this album popular and garnered additional praise for this hit band. Overall, I liked listening to this album and I think most others will too.

The Beach Boys hebben een aantal kort maar krachtige bangers, maar helaas stonden die niet op dit album

Lekker kort, lekker funky

Classic beach boys. Lekker kort albumpie. Ook weer heel prima, maar niet enorm leuk ofzo

it probably works best if it's seen as a stepping stone for their iconic albums to come – on its own, it's quite repetitive (although fun to listen to), but provides an interesting glimpse into the development of their sound

great harmonies, don't have much to say about this album.

I mean, is what it is

An easy album to listen to, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, no one song stood out for me. I enjoyed the composition (blending of styles, doo-woo, pop, rock, etc) and simplicity and youthfulness of the lyrics. I wish I could rate this a 2.85 cause I enjoyed listening to it more than some other albums on this list.

Fun album.

I relief to have something easy on the ears (and brain) after my last few albums. Fun and of its time. Which suits me fine today but I'm not sure earns it a place in this list. The Beach Boys yes, absolutely, this particular album, maybe not.

•Not owned: Streaming •Teeny bopper in subject matter, mature in its orchestration and production. Plenty of great moments—the rumbling opening track, the bouncy "Help Me, Ronda"—and ends on a weird but kinda neat(?) audio blurb. •3.5/5

again, not the biggest fan of 60s in general but I enjoyed the orchestral sound of this album quite a lot. the constant layering of vocal harmonies throughout the album was an enjoyable element however the overall pace of the album was still a bit too 60ish for my liking.

Glad I listened to some of thier stuff, doesn’t sound that great though

I have not listened to The Beach Boys yet but they sound exactly how I expected. I’m not so into the early rock n roll from the 60’s so none of the songs really stood out to me. The last track was just a conversation which I didn’t like (Bull session with “Big Daddy”). It wasn’t terrible so I will listen again if I had to but I would not intentionally put this album on.

That was white.

This is certainly more of the traditional beach boys sound I remember (compared to Pet Sounds). Short sweet surfy pop. Though there are some catchy tracks, they get a bit stale towards the end. Overall fine, but nothing I gravitate towards.

Bubbly and nice :)

En stabil trea.

This record is very much an interlude in the sound of The Beach Boys, providing a halfway point between their higher-concept later sound and their surfy rock n roll early sound. Some real dumb songs in here too though. Overall not their best, but still a solid album with great harmonies and fun arrangements. Top tracks: Do You Wanna Dance?, Good To My Baby, Help Me Rhonda, Please Let Me Wonder, Kiss Me Baby

This feels like if you told AI to write a beach boys album. It’s too on the nose

Meh. Not good but definitely not terrible. Mediocre at best. It's good that the album is short otherwise the rating would be lower.

Super fun and catchy. Zero replayability. Kinda short so I thought I’d listen to it again, halfway through the 3rd song I was over it.

Nowhere near as good as Pet Sounds.

I didnt listen in super specific detail, but from what I heard its just a bunch of nice songs about love. Thoughts: Nice!

It’s classic but horribly innocent. Great hits but I do not like the sister song.

One of my first albums was Beach Boys (Endless Summer), but I didn't know this album, other than Help Me Rhonda. I like the harmonies/vocals, but for the most part the songs are fairly kids-having-fun style which feels hokey.

nothing special, sort of basic 60s pop in my opinion.

Iconic vocals and harmonies, but again 29 minutes across 12 tracks is just such a short album to my ears.

Fun songs are very fun others a bit sickly sweet. It is what they were going for but not what I like

it was nice to get a classic band although they’re not my favourite I do like their sound. I liked how short it was, but I feel like it was just kind of boring in my opinion.

For being such an old record I was surprised how much I liked this. Fun songs throughout and interesting they have an early version of a skit at the end.

Help me Rhonda was the saving grace of this album. It all sounded the same

Pretty cool piece of pop-rock history

pretty weak for a Beach Boys album

just me and the boys, a lil day at the beach :))) life is good for 28 minutes 3*

There is a lot of technical meat on these songs, even if they sound ultimately quite dated. The fake track at the end is kind of a pain in the neck.

Hørres ut som alt anna av beach boys

When you see a Beach Boys album, you know exactly how it's going to sound

Buen disco de un gran grupo en el que no destaca especialmente, pues muchas canciones pueden sonar parecidas. Voz y estilo característico. Me esperaba alguna canción más reconocible

Like some of the songs but the recording/mastering makes it sound a bit tinny. Some of the tracks are very 1950# doo-wop. Enjoyable, but a mood not an everyday thing

While I’m not the biggest beach Boys fan, I prefer this to the next year's release, Pet Sounds and the other BB LPs we’ve been sent. The songs are fun(ish), the ballads less so, and the arrangements are sophisticated, thanks to The Wrecking Crew I think – I even see Glen Campbell name in there on 12 string guitar. It’s hard to believe this is their 8th album.

I enjoyed the album. I like the beach boys and I thought this was a solid album. Nothing really blew me away it was just a solid album that made really good peaceful background music. Makes me appreciate later beach boys more

Alright. I get why it’s on here

Beach Boys have such a distinct and iconic sound. Doo-wop, falsetto, surfer music, but man the lyrics make them sound like a bunch of dorks.

приятно, мило быстро

já ouvi. 2.5

Its got most of the classics. I like more the obscure

Dance Dance Dance best of side 1, She Knows Me Too Well my favorite of the slower side 2.

Ludique, entraînant, rafraîchissant; s’écoute comme on mange un bonbon

Interesting to hear the progress of artists lurching toward their masterpiece. Peek-a-boo, Pet Sounds.

Classic beach Boys sound but this being their fourth album on this list, it fails to provide anything new or exciting

Nice quick album, can always jam to the boys

# 36 : Sound is crap for a remaster! Harmonies are good as you'd expect from them, but the lyrics... yuk! - the second half was a snooze fest! Help Me Rhonda

I enjoyed it. When I Grow Up... and Help Me Rhonda were highlights for me.

je reviens comme une fleur

Not today, The Beach Boys.

another album where i wish we had half-star ratings on this site! it was pretty solid and pleasant to listen to but the only real standout to me was do you wanna dance. i absolutely love the album cover though - listing out basically all the tracks and then relegating three to obscurity (though they could have just fit them all there) is an incredible move. but i'd expect nothing less from the genius behind like a dozen covers of shortnin' bread. favorites: do you wanna dance, help me rhonda

A goos album, a little bit underwhelmed, i expected more. But this is generally not the type of music i like. 3/5

Yesterday!

Just okay

Probably the only album I've listened to where a discussion about sandwiches is the best track.

Great album. Beach boys rock

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys is a notable album that showcases the group's evolving sound. Released in 1965, it allegedly marks a departure from their earlier surf-rock sound, although to be honest the back half of the album sounded stylistically the same to me, just slowed down. While the harmonies and vocal performances are exceptional, the songwriting falls short. The lyrics are often superficial and lack depth, preventing the album from reaching its full potential. Nevertheless, tracks like "Do You Wanna Dance?" and "Please Let Me Wonder" showcase the band's melodic prowess and tight musicianship. The album's production is crisp, highlighting the group's vocal talents. The Beach Boys Today! is a solid release, but the weak songwriting hampers its overall impact.

Fun songs with great harmonies. I'm absolutely more a Pet Sounds/Smile era fan, so this is a lean and repetitive collection. Still, totally the sound of summer!

Not exactly the Beach Boys I love. Pet Sounds, Smile, etc. but there are multiple tracks here I enjoy and hell, hard to be at those harmonies.

Ah, we hit a Brian Wilson album. Brian Wilson was an unparalleled American musical genius. If you've ever listened to their studio chatter, you instantly begin to realize why. He was incredibly meticulous, often directing the band to a new take at the littlest variation that went against his vision. I liked this pre-Vegetables album because it was Brian Wilson before he went bonkers. The only cringe I had was the slightly cringy references to teenage girls (see: I'm So Young) that probably wouldn't be well accepted in today's context, especially considering Wilson was 23 at the time of the album. Kiss Me, Baby is my favorite of the tracks.

The Beach Boys have a one of a kind sound for sure. It’s mostly a depressing sound, but that’s Brian Wilson for you. When he was able to, or felt like, writing upbeat songs, he was at the top of his game. Unfortunately, there are only 2-3 tracks that fall into that category.

Overall kinda mid album. I enjoyed the rhythm of I'm So Young. Dance Dance Dance was fun, and I know Help Me Rhonda because my dad sings it all the time. The variety of instruments used was pretty cool, but otherwise I thought the way they used the instruments was generally pretty bland. A little boring in general. 3/5

I don’t see why this needs to be on the list when we know Pet Sounds will be making an appearance. Do You Wanna Dance and Help Me Rhonda are classics and rightfully so, but the other songs seem stuck in the 50s, even though this came out in 65. Songs about how your sister’s boyfriend better be nice to her and how you’re too young to get married (??) feel like they belong on a kidz bop album

Fine album but I don’t know if it’s one of their best. Help Me Rhonda is definitely worthy though.

Could not be a more aptly titled album

This is a great album because I am able to like the Beach Boys for exactly 28 minutes per day.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Do You Wanna Dance? (1) 2 - Dance, Dance, Dance (6) 3 - Help Me, Rhonda (5)

I love the Beach Boys and their harmonies but this is not my favorite of their albums.

This was a fun album by the Beach Boys, with some surprisingly rich arrangements. It has less of the "fun-fun" vibe of their earlier works, which really suits the band. When they lean more into the ballads (i.e., side 2), the band has more opportunities to harmonize in interesting ways. I adore "Help me Ronda," although the album version isn't quite as good as the one they released for the single. And I just don't get the waste of space that is "Bull Session with the 'Big Daddy.'" Fave Songs: Help Me, Ronda; Kiss Me, Baby; I'm So Young; Please Let Me Wonder; In the Back of My Mind; Dance, Dance, Dance

It's the beach boys, we all know what that sounds like. It's not pet sounds though.

Outside of Pet Sounds, the Beach Boys were definitely a singles band. Still, this is nice listening. Love the harmonies, love the pure simple sound, and the length is pretty much perfect. Why did they record themselves eating lunch as the final track? The world may never know. Best song: When I Grow Up (To Be a Man) [Love Help Me Rhonda, but the recording on this album isn't the best version.]

Thanks to this project and thanks even more to the incredible podcast series, 'A History Of Rock Music In 500 Songs,' which I emphatically and enthusiastically recommend to even the most casual fan of rock music -- I promise it's worth it: start at the first episode, go chronologically from there, be patient, and I swear it's so worth it -- I am growing to appreciate The Beach Boys and understand their music has more complexity and evolution than I thought. This album reflects their growth as they moved forward from earlier successes and pushed themselves with more interesting compositions and less teen-focused lyrics. As always, their musicianship is excellent and their vocal performances are superb. Well done, 1001 Albums project and 'A History Of Rock Music In 500 Songs' podcast. You opened my mind.

This was a good prequel to Pet Sounds, seems like they’re finding their sound. Overall a little more melancholic than what I expected.

Yhtenäinen albumi.. Heh.. sarjallinen parempi sana.. iskoistuu päähän kyllä. . Nautinnollisista kappaleista... raapii tähdet.. Vaan ei kunnia kolmosta enempää saa.. kunnia kolme.. se on kolme...

This was quite interesting to listen to as it's the sort of Beach Boys music that I'm less familiar with. I tend to prefer side 1 - and even knew a couple of the tunes on that. But I guess I just tend to prefer up beat music to ballads in general. Side 2 was OK, apart from the oddness at the end, but I guess we can give them that as it was the 60s. Overall, decent enough and interesting to listen to, but I doubt I'll seek it out for listening again. Side 1 might get a 3.5-4, but side 2 knocks this down to a 3 overall.

I'm not a big fan of the Beach Boys. I'm not sure why I never got into them, I appreciate their musicianship and their vocal harmonies are great. This album does not have any songs I am familiar with either, which is probably good for me to not have any predispositions. That last track is so weird, a fake interview with the band. It sounds like it's a bonus track, but it isn't. I can't imagine what people initially made of that. It's interesting that the songs were organized the way they are: the A side is ptemp, then the B side are all slow, ballad-like. Listen to the lyrics and you can see a maturation of Brian Wilson's lyrics: an apprehension of what lays ahead for him, he's not a teenager anymore. Ultimately, the songs still have that dated sound. I tend to think of the Beach Boys as "old", just before my time. But they were around for the Beatles who I love. So it's a bit of a paradox for me. So listening to the album itself, I found myself enjoying it more than I expected. And thinking that maybe I need to revisit my feelings on their stuff. I still don't think I will become a fan, but I appreciate them more than I did.

It’s The Beach Boys

never listened to beach boy... I really didn't get much out of this after the first 4 tracks. I enjoyed the last track way too much lol

Quintessential Beach Boys

Relaxing surf Rock, summer vibes

The Beach Boys Today! had glimpses of what is to come in their latter albums, but something feels like it's missing through the familiar Beach Boys Californian beach carefree sound. The final track really brought the album down and felt entirely unnecessary. Best: Dance, Dance, Dance Worst: Bull Session with the 'Big Daddy

Tja.

Actually a 3.5. It’s fun and you can hear what comes later, and , with The Beach Boys…

Loved it as a kid but this was not their best. That would have been " Pet Sounds", which was probably my pre-teen anthem album.

Hat was sehr fröhliches und es abwechslungsreich, aber ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, was ich von diesen “zusammen singen” halte. Also es ist manchmal ganz nett, aber hier ist das ja über das ganze Album. I liked the skit where they were just talking. It just adds to the experience of the whole album.

Good stuff but too short (and overlength 'talky' track) to be a classic.

Brian Wilson is no longer on the road, and concentrating on production and songwriting. But he hasn't hit his straps yet, for better and for worse. Help Me Rhonda and When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) are stand-out songs, with Dance Dance Dance and I'm So Young also pretty strong, but the rest of this album barely rises above cliched filler tunes. The harmonies are terrific (with strong incorporation of jazz chords into their doo wop style). and the backing tracks are starting to channel the best parts of Phil Spector production methods, without yet degenerating into the worst excesses that lay around the corner ('Vegetables" anyone?). I think this album gets a critical pass because it is part of the run-up to Pet Sounds, and a progression beyond the more adolescent girls & cars songs that preceded. Not that the concerns of this album are much more mature. Brian Wilson is clearly still trapped in an adolescent fantasy world, and preoccupied with disturbingly young women. But the Beach Boys are really still a singles band at this point (case in point: Help Me, Rhonda is far better on the single version), and the 1001 albums list's obsession with albums precludes the best way to listen to the Beach Boys: i.e., on a single compilation.

This is a pivotal record in The Beach Boys’ discography. Switching to more mature songwriting and themes, and better production. The Phil Spector wall-of-sound style production really shines in the mono mix.

Pretty good but not their best.

Decent, not as good as pet sounds

Standard 60s pop, no songs about surfing and cars like old Beach Boys albums. Help me Rhonda is probably the most recognizable track. Some of the subject matter was deeper than usual Beach Boys songs "when I grow up to be a man" has some interesting thoughts about aging and the future. Overall a decent album

Its not Pet Sounds....some lovely high harmonies but it still in the bubblegum phase and it wears a bit.

Day 3 I didn't this it would be this soon that I got a band this well known. Obviously I know the beach boys but looking through the track list I didn't recognize a single song. Also, I wrote the review for this one song by song as opposed to the first two days. Do You Wanna Dance? - 4/10 - way too repetitive (yes I know it's the beach boys but even for them it's a little much) but just based off of how nice the beach boys voice sounds is keeping it from under 4 Good To My Baby - 6/10 Don't Hurt My Little Sister - 8/10 - fun premise, also is a nice break from the super upbeat stuff I'm accustomed to hearing from the beach boys When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) - 3/10 - not into this one. whatever the backing instrument is for most of the song just kind of sucks and whoever is the main guy singing here is clearly the worst singer of the band imo. also it's just kind of a mediocre premise for a song that they do poorly Help Me, Rhonda - 5/10 Dance, Dance, Dance - 8/10 - I like this one. It sounds like the type of music I would actually like to hear at the beach. Please Let Me Wonder - 8/10 - didn't expect a slow love song (tbf idk if this would even be considered a love song) to work this well from them I'm So Young - 4/10 - Yeah this is more what I expected from a love song from them. It just feels very void of substance and kind of a stupid topic after the last song. Kiss Me, Baby - 5/10 - mostly inoffensive (Note: I swear they start off every other song on this album with that whiney "OoOoOoH") She Knows Me Too Well - 8/10 - I appreciate the minor tone of the song. I also find the blatant admittance of being an asshole who makes the girl he likes cry pretty interesting. (I know it was a different time but it's still funny.) This is easily the best song on the album but I don't think it compares to the actually fun classic Beach Boys songs that just aren't on this album. In The Back Of My Mind - 5/10 - this feels like the most genuine expression of emotion on the album so far. Just wish it sounded better. And then the 12th track is just some filler track of the boys getting sandwiches or something so I won't add that tto the rating Overall: It's better than I expected from a list of songs I've never heard from one of the bigger bands I've ever heard. 64/110 or 58%

goofy lads make some great tunes. I expected this to get samey but its fairly varied, vocals of course are great but I love the songwriting too. best tracks: don't hurt my little sister, help me rhonda, good to my baby

To say this is better than Pet Sounds is just silly. This is a transitional record, with a pretty weak first side. Side 2 gets better but the best of the Beach Boys was still to come, obviously.

The Beach Boys were a really unique 60s sound, that has really lost its appeal. They were great back in the day though. There are a lot of great songs, but when I listen to it now, it’s like I just want to hear it once, and move on….. 3.5/5 (excellent)

it was "fine", what I expected. Understand that it was "groundbreaking" for the time, but I didn't much care for them in the 70's, let alone today.

Not bad, but not mine kind of music

Lots of tamberine

Not a bad album. Not the best from the Beach Boys. All of their songs seem to hit the same note...

Best version of Help Me, Rhonda. Otherwise, meh. Beach Boys have some fun sing-a-long songs but they're often too bubble gum sounding for my tastes

sunshine vinyl!

Meh it’s The Beach Boys !

The lyrics man... just a bit on the nose. But the second half really is very good.

big daddy loves this album and so shall you

ehm.... so cheesy 3

being introed to beach boys via full house was a millenial crime

That was classic cool

For something that wasn't in line with my usual tastes it wasn't too bad. It puts me into that moment of time without being too dated or irrelevant. Dreamy and easy listening. Also I appreciate the short track lengths as the track typically ends before I get bored of it.

A transitional Beach Boys record, and one that is very pleasant, but not in their top 7 or 8 LPs to me.

The classic Beach Boys harmonies are present throughout but no songs of surf, sun or California are to be found here. Nonetheless, Side 1 is full of up tempo bangers and is great. Side 2 comprises ballads and isn't the Beach Boys' best work. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Help Me, Rhonda Date listened: 04/12/22

too surfy

Very twee and a bit cloying. Yes, the harmonies are great and The Beach Boys are a classic group. They have infiltrated our entire culture. But I can only take them in small doses. This was more than enough for today and perhaps a whole year.

This seems unnecessary to include in the list - why not just Pet Sounds?

A bit too cheery for my taste.

The Beach Boys are consummate boomers, singing about a mean guy who hurt their little sister in one song, then singing about hurting their girlfriend to make themselves feel better in another. Good times. I know I'm not a fan because of overexposure.

Big fan of pet sounds but first time hearing this album, it’s good but doesn’t quiet match up to pet sounds. Can see the later songs leading building up to it. Good album and worthy of the list.

Nice and catchy; exactly what I expected. Lacked that quality “Pet Sounds” has and so good but not amazing.

I do like The Beach Boys but there's usually only so much of the surfer sound I can take at a time. I will say though that the album flows very nicely and the lengths of the songs allow for a good listening experience.

Surf rock has invaded my bones

You can hear the evolution of the Beach Boys in real time. We start off with some generic surf rock teen bops. Beautiful harmonies with cool riffs and plenty of interesting instrumentation (thanks Wrecking Crew). But even these songs in the first half are better than the deep cuts they've written before, with some cool and innovative segments, even if half the song is pretty lame and uneventful. They don't quite hit the mark, and you can tell they have the potential for genius, which they'll live up to in the following 6 years. The first recording "Help Me Ronda" may not be as good but is actually a fresh take from the rerecording, fitting well here, and showcasing their potential in songwriting. The awful volume mixing near the end sounds intentional but it ruins it, on top of the overall muddled vocals. We end the side with their biggest single, the most complete but also the most generic "Dance Dance Dance", sounds like an ode to 50s rock n roll. The second side is where it starts getting really good. These songs tend to simpler and lighter on the instrumentation, with the focus set on the slow, melancholic, dynamic, and immensely beautiful harmonies and emotional lyrics. The depressing hooks are reminiscent of the confusing and unstable feelings in Pet Sounds. "Please Let Me Wonder" and "I'm So Young" have a very 50s traditional doo wop sound except a lot more flexible. The vocals of "Kiss Me Baby" showcases something entirely new and exciting, which continues to the end of the album. The mood gradually slows and depresses to the concluding "In the Back of My Mind", which has my favorite instrumentation, with a quite dramatic and satisfying ending. I wish "Bull Session" was cut cause it ruins it for me. Lots of faults and lots of room for improvement, but also a ton of strengths that make the Beach Boys start to stand out from the rest of the world. Despite being a huge Beach Boys fan, I never would have thought to listen to this record for years, so thank you generator. Favorites: Good to My Baby, When I Grow Up, Help Me Ronda, Please Let Me Wonder, Kiss Me Baby, She Knows Me Too Well, In the Back of My Mind

it was ok nothing amazing

The Beach boys are the best band of surf-rock.

I'm far from a specialist in Beach Boys discography, but this album before THE "Pet Sounds" sounds interesting. I can see much of the future experimentalism of the band, but also some remains of classical surf rock. I don't have much to say, but this quick and good release from this band some years from changing the musical history and listening to it is a good experience.

I love the Beach Boys. Summer, surfing, and hot rods. There are a few favorites on this album but not my favorites BBs album. I did struggle listening to this in the middle of October. Beach Boys music is fun in the sun summertime music for me. This album has great studio musicians from the L.A. "Wrecking Crew". It's been labeled as a transition album for the BBs because it includes more of Brian Wilson's ballads... which is probably why it falls to average. Tangy guitars and falsetto harmonies is what I love but their ballads are mediocre whine fests. I wish could rate this one higher but please "Help Me, Ronda!" this album doesn't touch my heart 'cause I just wanna "Dance, Dance, Dance".

Even if you don’t think you know the Beach Boys, you know The Beach Boys. This album sounds like teenaged angst wrapped in California sunshine. I am having a hard time talking about this album without thinking about everything else that they have done so I will just say that, except for the part about them talking about hamburgers and French fries, it was very good. I listened to this album today with my 16 year-old niece.* After it was over we listened to quite a few One Direction songs (2 1/2 hr drive from Sleepy Hollow, NY, to Philadelphia) and we were talking about how the video for their song ‘Kiss You’ was influenced by The Beach Boys. * I invited Brave to join our listening group so we may get some GenZ-based reviews soon! Final note: I can’t get the song Brian Wilson by the Barenaked Ladies out of my head right now and I’m not mad about it!

The first half (side 1) of these songs were so enjoyable and wholesome by the second half around Please Let Me Wonder I was done.

Not once, ever, after 6 hours of school, did I feel the overwhelming need to dance, dance, dance — mo matter how hot the beat.

Help me Rhonda A+

Great quick album, with a vibe to it. Some summer thing. No strings attached to the album, you just wanna have fun right... Good to hear but not Marking... 3.5/5

This is some core Beach Boys. It's nowhere near as good as Pet Sounds. It's still good, but mostly forgettable music. Help Me Ronda stands out a little, but it's one of their weaker hits.

An album of Beach Boys deep cuts. I mean it is still a good album, but it's just not an amazing album. I do like it more than Surf's Up which I also thought was a strange inclusion when neither of their first two albums got a spot. The influence of those two albums on Surf Rock and then the influence of Surf Rock on so many other genres makes me so confused as to why they didn't get a spot. The leading single on both of those albums have more streams by themselves than this entire album totaled. I however won't disagree with the inclusion of Pet Sounds. Good album just not anything more than a 3 star to me.

Pretty funny to hear grown ass men singing about their little sister’s dude and wanting to put aside the school books to dance in their room.

HELP ME RHONDA! Fun songs, good beach vibes but they have better music than this.

Good for their day but not my favourite group.

very pleasant listen as a whole, and a few songs are pretty good but definitely nothing noteworthy. It honestly feels like a compilation of okay songs back to back to back. and although they're all good/okay, they don't really have any emotion or impact behind them, sorta just pleasant sound. solid 3

hayden liking a beach boys album??? what in the world. this was great. told a nice little story and kinda just took u to a vibey world for half an hour. kiss me baby is probably the best song on the album. i enjoyed this way more than i thought. production is also great

it’s definitely a beach boys album

Just not my cup of tea, but they really were on to something with the funky vibe

A little before my time but I enjoyed it enough all the same.

The album has several well known songs although I have never heard this entire album before. The album was alright. I don't think I will listen to the entire album again.

An-other Century.... surely

Erste Songs waren Überhaupt nicht meins, aber die späteren langsameren song sind eigentlich ganz ok.

Irritating

After his mental breakdown, Brian Wilson begins to experiment with more complex arrangements and abstract topics. An important stepping stone on the way to Pet Sounds.

Okej je. Nemam baš nešto loše za reći pa evo trojke

solid "beach" sound. Seemed not too distinctive.

yep, its them

Brought me back to elementary school, not because I'm old, but because one of my friends had a record player and several Beach Boy vinyls. The songs are simple, but I love the chorus echos and harmonies.

Nicht mein Genre, aber ein guter Genre Vertreter

well is a classic...if not my perference

I can see how this was great for teens in the 60s but I did get a bit tired of just singing about being in love with girls. Obviously great songs within themselves and I do of course respect the Beach Boys, but I wasn't massively into it

Pleasant. Sounds quaint now. Some songs have very interesting chord progressions, like She Knows Me Too Well. Favorites included kiss me baby, when I grow up, help me Rhonda, in the back of my mind

It's the first album where the Beach Boys show a bit more that they're talented. Where Brian Wilson takes the time to write songs. It's the step between their surfpop and Petsounds. You can hear it's coming, it's just not there yet.

It was a good day when The Beach Boys decided to move away from their bubble gum pop sound

Listen to alot of beach boys over the years. You get what you get. Not particularly high on them anymore minus the Christmas album.

Classic, but a little dated and repetitive. Amazing harmonies of course.

Super right sountrack for the holiday Monday

Just a three.

Good Vibrations came on and I was ready to give this three stars. Then I realized it was just Spotifyinf playing more BB 😭 Still, this album is better than Pet Sounds. Blonde blue-eyed beach bops have a place, but, again, not a mood I see myself returning to. 2.5 stars, rounding up because this is better than PS.

The album before Pet Sounds. A few experimental bits and bobs, and a strange non-track at the end. Great harmonies and some pop hits, but could have done with fewer ballads.

It's too tough not to compare '60s albums with more contemporary music. Beach boys just feel cheap. I get the novelty of their music at the time, but I can't overcome the feeling of dread while listening to these songs.

Typowo boysbandowe piosenki o miłości i dziewczynach śpiewane na jedną modłe.

Ooh okay this might be cool… The album opens with do you wanna dance it’s a fairly solid track upbeat and poppy so what you would expect in a song the only thing is that the chorus feels a bit overwhelming. Good to my baby starts with the whole barbershop quartet thing but then forms into a solid pop song I especially like the pre chorus/ chorus on this. Next is don’t hurt my little sister it’s got this great harmony with the band singing but I just don’t think this songs verses are strong. When I grow up to be a man is a song that I kind of recognise in the verses, it’s very well written with especially good vocals. Help me, Rhonda is a more guitar driven track, it contains all of the positive energy that shines so well in this band but it’s so repetitive at the end and the playing with the volume is just annoying . Ending side one is dance, dance, dance a short little rockier sounding song in terms of the verses but still has the strong harmonic beach boys chorus. Please let me wonder has this droning yet heavenly ah sound throughout the song kinda giving it a more blissful feeling to it, it’s a good song but nothing special. Then we have I’m so young (the only cover in the album) it works and has some great ooh’s and ah’s but it just doesn’t match the originals. Man this second side is so full of the ooh and aah sound and while I like it on the beach boys by the point of kiss me baby i’am bored by it. The piano is good here though. She knows me too well, still does the ooh’s and aah’s but it’s better than the last two songs at least it just is generally harmonically better. The last real song is in the back of my mind a lush slow track feels like a great bookend to the album. But then they just place this interview at the end. Just why??? Well I can see the foundation’s for pet sounds and it’s good just no where near as good as that album and quite a lot of 60’s things.

It's not a difficult listen, but it's also not Pet Sounds.

As Beach Boys albums go this isn’t at the top of my list. Seems somewhere between the classic Surf Rock and whatever Pet Sounds is and doesn’t for me capture the best of either. Which isn’t to say it isn’t good.

this is crazy. 8th album and the youngest of the band was still a teenager. Wow. This is pretty cool how orchestral this is vs. the teen pop of their previous hits. You really hear that Phil Specter wall of sound going on. Good album. Still doesn't get a great rating as I'm not in love with the genre but nice to listen to and learn some history of the Beach Boys at the same time.

Nice little album of it's era, not that I know many of the tunes off this one.

Not bad, pretty one note tho

Not my jam

Short and sweet-ish. Strong first side, then fades into a few ballads, and finishes poorly, with a dodgy song, In the back of my mind, and what in earth is that outtake at the end?? Plus couldn’t Brian Wilson write an ending? Nearly every song fades suddenly!

Sweet and dreamy and one can hear the the progress toward the high art of Pet Sounds. Still this is lighter and not fully cooked, especially side 1. Side 2 is demonstrably better and more interesting, reflecting that eternal dividing line of knowledge/appreciation re the Beach Boys (those who know only surfing/cars vs those who get, or are at least open to the idea of, Brian’s genius [it’s worth noting that endless reunion tours don’t help the latter’s cause]). Of the hits, I’ve always had a soft spot re “Help Me Ronda” but the dancing songs are too bubble-gummy. “Kiss Me,” “She Knows Me” and “I’m So Young” point forward. Good Beach-y fun, but relatively insubstantial in the shadow of what was to come. 3.5 for 3. [The author’s comments that this is better than Pet Sounds is mere trolling/provocation – it’s not close. The unspecified claim about “the worst track in the entire book” intrigues but doesn’t land – plus, just tell us the damn thing instead of more trolling.]

Not one of their best efforts. Is OK, but really not worth playing. C+

Pretty fun, but not the most innovative thing the Beach Boys will do. Hard to see why this is also on the list when there are significantly better albums from them

Ihan ok rallattelua ja sopivan lyhyt että jakso kantaa mielenkiinnolla loppuun asti. Kolmonen yläkanttiin.

The US' version of the Beatles - all pop, no flop. Today! is The Beach Boys transitional album, they're growing up here and moving on to what will become Pet Sounds. But to get there, Brian Wilson needs to do his Brian Wilson thing. Paired with Phil Spector's Wall of Sound this album while flat in hits is a good heritage slice of The Beach Boys cake. 3.5/5

Cute teenage harmonies.

I really like the Beach Boys, but this one is not an essential for me.

First time I listened to an album by the Beach Boys and probably the last time (depends solely on if there's another one on this list). The first half of the album is 2 stars. Completely forgettable, badly aged pop rock with bad singing. The second half is more interesting and merits 3.5 stars. I could have done without the last track though.

This one grew on me. There's some beautiful harmonies here, particularly I liked the songs 'Please let me wonder' and 'she knows me too well'. This album is split into two parts, with the A-side taking up more upbeat songs, and the B side more intimate ballads. I found that the B side was more interesting than the A side. The instrumentation here is mostly run-of-the-mill, it's the sublime harmonies which provide the main draw. Overall I'd give the album 3-3.5 stars. 3.5 stars for the B side and 2.5 for the A side

The vocal arrangements and melodies on this album are really pleasant. Production is really good too. The songwriting isn't that great though and it gets boring despite it being less than 30 minutes. First song is definitely a highlight. Also Bull Session is really weird but I enjoyed it for some reason?

It's got some good songs but just one hit....Help Me Rhonda. Not their best but still has some good songs worthy of attention. 3.5 🌟

relaxing.

Deeper vocals and less reliance on doo-whop harmony means this one stands out from the typical Beach Boy LP output. A bit of bite from the slightly overdriven guitars gives the whole production a bit of edge as well.

Legalzinho. Melhor música: dance, dance, dance

The Beach Boys coasted a hobby into a huge musical career- while not my favourite genre, I appreciate the songwriting and harmonies

decent scran

It's fine, but it's no Pet Sounds...

It's no Pet Sounds. Give Brian some drugs lads

Not their best work, but still better than most other bands can do!

3 STARS

Oh, more Beach Boys. Maybe you just had to be there. Is part of the problem that this sounds more like a 1950s album than something that came out in the same year as Rubber Soul, Help, Highway 61 Revisited, the first Who album, and A Love Supreme. Or is it the portrayal of all-American wholesomeness that permeates throughout that's just hard to take. Sure, nice harmonies, as you'd expect but it just sounds so old fashion and out of place.

Ah, Brian.

Actually enjoyed this thought it was gonna be oldie stuff

Jesus - these guys come at you turned up to 10 from the first second. It's a little unsettling, to be honest. You hit play and, \"DO YOU WANT TO DANCE AND HOLD MY HAND?\" Like get to know me first - come on! When I Grow Up to Be a Man is a good song, possibly a sign of what's to come with Pet Sounds, but overall, this is not really that special to me. The only thing I can say, is that like my colleague says, the sound of the Beach Boys is unmistakable, and that is something. So for that, I'll give them a 3/5 Seriously though, I am not a Beach Boys fan. I understand they were the American innovators during the Beatles dominance. But they are not the Beatles. They are also, not boys anymore. In 1965 they were like 25. I do think God Only Knows (on their next album) is one of the greatest songs of all time, but just because they stopped singing about cars and surfing doesn't mean they have evolved. This thing is fine - but if Pet Sounds makes this list (which I am sure it does), then this one has no place really. When I Grow Up to Be a Man is the only song that really sounds like they're on to something, which I think speaks to their evolution to Pet Sounds. That being said, this album is not really that special to me. I do have to admit that like my colleague said, the Beach Boys have a sound that is unmistakable, and that I suppose is something, so for that 3/5

Je l'ai plus apprécié que Pet Sounds, mais ça reste un son que je trouve monotone.

Aika beatlesmäinen Beach Boys, paitsi isommalla soundilla. Salee paras Pet Soundsin jälkeen, mitä heiltä kuullu.

Okei, onhan se ihan hyvää se Beach Boys. Mukavan lyhyt levy myös, ei tauhkaa. 3/5

dat is niet hun beste imo

Nice to hear some more beach boys

Nice Beach boys sound, chilled but without the stand out songs of pet sounds

rockig beat

This is the Beach Boys so there are amazing pop songs with flawless harmonising on here. It's just that as with most Beach Boys releases it is just a collection of songs instead of a proper album. I like it but compared to Pet Sounds it overall lacks something

A little hit and miss for me on this one. Really liked "In the Back of My Mind," which I don't think I'd ever heard before. But seemingly lots of songs about being young and being in love and wanting to get married blah blah blah. "Do You Wanna Dance?" is a banger, but I could cull a good handful of tunes from the middle of the album and probably be happier with the overall listen.

Extremely NICE.

The best of this album IMO: - Good To My Baby - She Knows Me Too Well Repetitive. But catchy. The mixing sounds inconsistent in some tunes. 2.9/5

Not the best of the b boys

Some enjoyable songs, but not my cup of tea.

It's alright, definitely a product of its time. Favorite track is Please Let Me Wonder

The Beach Boys have a unique sound in or out of surf rock. On the front half of Today!, the production and vocal harmonies dominate. On the back, it's about more interesting song structures. The group doesn't quite hit their stride on this one - or doesn't integrate the two halves - but it's still great pop listening.

Beach boys but not their best

yep thats the 60s alright

I will always listen to the Beach Boys and will always enjoy them. This isn't my favorite album of theirs, but is still good listening.

I am not an emotionless music robot. I cannot listen to this dispassionately and pretend that the Beach Boys does not trigger memories of the sort of dudes who love the Beach Boys. Because as soon as there's a falsetto harmony or the merest hint of Southern Californian sun, it's f-boy central. This album is ok and it seems like it was a turning point for the Boys, before they got all prog surf. It definitely gets better as the album progresses, sounding like the blueprint for Weezer. I also found the final track, a discussion of snacks and touring, to be the most enjoyable track.

3.5... love the bb's...tho some pretty tame obviously early numbers on this. Rhonda, kiss me baby, she knows me, when I grow up...all ace

I don't think there's such a thing as a bad Beach Boys song, but this is an album that stocks to their formula with no risks and no innovation. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's also no reason to ever play it when Pet Sounds is right there.

This album was almost all new music for me. I am familiar with "Help Me, Ronda" and have heard other bands also do a cover of "Do You Wanna Dance?" The Beach Boys, for me, are a band that may have been better if I could have heard them in context. There is a certain innocence to much of the content of the music. The focus on the life of a teenager and young girlfriends in song after song keeps this album from being more than just okay. "Don't Hurt My Little Sister" just feels too weird for a repeat listen. I respect the talents of Brian Wilson and the rest of the Beach Boys, but I don't see myself listening to this whole album again.

De va faktiskt igår 🙄

Nice :)

Decent.

Brilliant harmonies, unmistakable sound, with some very good songs, but it does all sound very similar

Good ol' fashioned BB. Nothing unexpected. However, their wiki page is fascinating.

classic, but not their best

Great Beach Boys record. I've really come to appreciate them at this stage in my life and recognize them for their innovation and talent now where I loathed them growing up.

Random chat at the end is shit. Rest of the album is good

Sounds okay, but for me this music requires a certain mood to really appreciate it.

Groovy) So lightweight music, I accidentally listened it twice a row.

Not really a big Beach boys guy. I think it's cool ya know? But I have to be a very specific mood to really be into this. It's not bad though lol.

Hier, mon compere robinière et moi lancions une gigantesque opération de piratage sur le générateur, afin de créer une émulation autour du rendez-vous secret que nous avons fixé dans l'une de nos précédentes review. Tuesday haiku: They Beach boys are great fave of youth was “Help Me Rhonda” Good, but dated tunes ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pet sounds is better

A foretaste of the feast to come. This album features the most obvious example of filler possible: the final song, which is basically just members of the band sitting around bullshitting about onions and French fries. "Help Me Rhonda" is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs, but the re-recorded version they released as a single is much better than the one here (and they even changed the punctuation on that one to "Help Me, Rhonda"). It's all fine. I wonder if giving it a 3 is being kind. The Beach Boys seem to get too much credit for moving away from writing songs about surfing. The album is pleasant enough, it's just not their NEXT album. I caught myself counting all the things that turned me off the album. That lesser version of Help Me Rhonda. The unnecessary exclamation point after Today in the album title. Mike Love. Murry Wilson. The fact that Murry doesn't have an "a" in his name like normal Murray's do. The fact that my impression of Murry Wilson is almost exclusively based on his portrayal in a horrible made for broadcast TV movie that Amazon Prime thinks I'd be interested in watching again. How I wish Glen Campbell would have been an official Beach Boy instead of Mike Love. Realizing the album's Wikipedia entry is too long. And are they wearing sweaters to tell the world they're done with surfing? But it was nice to hear Al Jardine and Dennis Wilson handle lead vocals on the three best songs on the album.
