Reviews (page 7 of 7)
This album doesn't have "Sex on Fire"; their only good song, it seems.
I don’t like Kings of Leon. I didn’t enjoy this.
Well that was pretty terrible. Much like Bob Dylan, that guy shouldn't sing. Not much else redeeming about this album.
Some songs were ok, but personally not a fan of the dirty lyrics. Tracks to Track: Molly's Chambers, Red Morning Light
man i hate leon’s voice
Well, that was awful! The only good song was “Molly’s Chambers”.
Really, really disliked this.
I actually liked this the most of the Kings of Leon albums, but there is ZERO reason they should have three on this list. In reality its a 2.5 but i'm rating it a one out of protest
Horrid. I actually like some Kings of Leon but everything about this repulsed me.
no
kings of Nothing
hated when he sang
"Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate."
Colorless, melody-free alt rock with an insufferable lead singer.
I didn't expect to hate this. While KOL has never done much for me, and I really don't like "Sex on Fire" song, I don't have hostility toward them. At least I didn't until today! I couldn't wait for this to end. They're clearly good at what they do, but what they do is not my thing.
this band sucks and is totally overrated.
Bland music and crappy vocals. These guys remind me of bad mix of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jet - or maybe The Strokes. Either way, I did not like this album.
I’m just not a fan for whatever reason. Does zero for me.
Rating: 2/10 Generic instrumentation with absolutely horrendous singing. This is shit.
Any day I don’t think about Kings of Leon is a good day. Obviously today has been ruined.
Komplet ligegyldigt album. Bedre end Aha Shake Heartbreak, ikke lige så godt som Only by the Night (som havde et par bangers men heller ikke hører til på den her liste). Håber kraftedme at det her var det sidste KoL album.
What a bunch of trash
Sounds like Forrest Gump singing over a band that really wants to be playing Lynyrd Skynyrd songs, but have been forced by the record company to try and sound like The Strokes a bit. Not for me, sorry.
Awful
Early 2000's sex rock and not even the good album.
I hate this dudes voice so much
Right off the bat I'm reminding how much I hate the singer of Kings of Leon. Something about his delivery is so punchable. I actually really enjoy Wasted Time, but I hate how fucking forward in the mix they put his vocals. Bury that shit like it is meant to be. Same can be said for Trani -- I like the messiness of the song itself, but I cannot stand his voice. Its as if he's tapping into a lispy adolescent Steven Tyler. Spiral Staircase sees the singer doing his best Brian Johnson (AC/DC) impression. Fine song though it doesn't really go anywhere. Well that was a delightful waste of my time. A few redeeming tracks, whose promising structures are completely squandered by awful vocals. Trending downward... Could be argued that this is a 2 because it isn't unlistenable; however, I have rarely found a 40 minute album to feel so long. And for that this gets a much coveted 1.
One good song the rest is dreary
This singer is so bad. Really brings the band down.
It's OK. Raw, has a 60s rockiness to it. But not "great". Lyrics are kinda weak.
Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, Slowdive, Prefab Sprout, the Clash, Blue Oyster Cult, Comsat Angels, B-52s, Nanci Griffith, The Jam...just some of the artists more deserving of 3, 2 or even one place on this list instead of the third from this amazingly mediocre band.
I think this is what’s meant by “caterwauling”
I thought I would like this one more.
Maybe I would have liked this if they weren’t trying so hard to be the Black Crows? I’m starting to think most of the retro sounding bands from the early aughts weren’t that good.
Not a fan. Sounds like 70's garage rock.
these songs ranged from “whatever” to “actively bad” in my opinion, although i will be honest—there wasn’t a single one that i felt compelled to listen to all the way through, except for the last two. a lot of the instrumentals (and some of the vocal phrasing) kinda reminded me of the band, if the band had no charm whatsoever. [damon albarn voice] that’s the album of a charmless band…
My expectations were low, but this was *shockingly* bad.
Kings of Leon? More like Stinks of Pee(on)!! Seriously though I knew I had a vague distaste for these guys, based on singles after they went mega big, but this is their debut. Shouldn’t it be kinda cool or interesting or something??
I hate Kings Of Leon. Why is this the second album I get from them? I wanna meet the guy that decided it was great to put them on the list TWICE. THERE IS NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THEM. I just don't get it...
Another one? Ok, Aha Shake Heartbreak was a pleasant surprise so maybe…uh…oh wow…this is super irritating and monotonous. Made multiple attempts to get through this album and I just can’t.
This is like if the Strokes didn't know how to write memorable hooks and also if you hard plagiarized Bob Dylan.
Возможно я был настроен на абсолютное гавно, когда увидел название группы. Но чесслово, это было болезненно. И я из тех людей, что любят мужиков с надоедливыми голосами... Лучшая песня - California Waiting.
This is terrible. I don’t know why this terrible band has multiple albums on the list. The lead vocals are painful to listen to, and the lyrics are shallow and grating. 1
This is like if the Strokes didn't know how to write memorable hooks and also if you hard plagiarized Bob Dylan. F
Oh no, I don't like it. Rather lame and tame, plodding pop, rock, whatever. OK, if you like it, I don't like the album. But many people seem to have liked it, at least according to the Wikipedia article. I can't and don't want to judge anything 'technical', I don't know enough about that. My ratings are more based on the emotional aspects and their effect on me. Not a album I would buy or ever listen to again. Too bad, cool band name. But if that really falls into the same category, where are The Dead Weather, The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club? That can't be right. Hey and Eagles of Death Metal, I love all that stuff. I'm confused
Nope
Please stop recommending me Kings of Leon, they suck
Some of these tracks the singer turns into gollum and starts seizing.
i just hate his voiceeee. overall just a really grating listen. i really don't like this sound at all, 1 or 2 to be honest
Like Jack White, it just sounds performative and inauthentic, contrived.
Never liked Kings. This is worse. Did find myself tapping along sometimes.
Now this is a surprise, I honestly didn't realise there had been a proper punk revival. This lot epitomise exactly what I think of as punk. A disassociated youth angry with society, beating tuneless crap out of their instruments and being cruel to a microphone. The main difference being this lot don't have the nostalgia effect to make it bearable. To be fair there are bits where they do show that they are capable of actually getting a tune out of their guitars. But they soon revert to type, and I'm reminded of the infinite monkey theory. Oh yes, and talking of monkeys. What is that that they have providing vocals? I find it hard to believe it's of human origin. All in all its just plain shite. Shame there isn't a zero, not been forced to listen to anything more deserving of one yet. OK, so the above was written after only listening to the first half of the album and the break must have been good for my ears as the second half seemed better. They slowed it down a bit and it became more musical. I can see how the novocaine one got it's name, it reminded me of toothache. I can honestly say that with this improvement they now deserve the 1 star I'm giving them.
I did not like this at all
The vocals, man. I just can't do it..
I hate the vocals. I don't get how this is different than other jangly rock.
Kings of Leon’s Youth And Young Manhood is bland. Its jarring, and has no cohesion. The drums are lackluster, and singing is beyond horrible. Red Morning Light and Molly’s Chamber are this albums saving grace, but even those aren’t spectacular. This album cannot possibly be considered as part of the greatest albums in the last half-century, and truly has no value. All in all, Youth And Young Manhood is a trash album. Best Song: Molly's Chamber Worst Song: California Waiting
No
I found this record pretty dull, and bland. I genuinely don't have much to say about it - personally I'm not sure why it's on the list, and I won't be returning to it.
MITÄ HELVETTIÄ? onneksi nykyään miehet on miehiä... eikä mitään tollasia. olen kuullut bändistä aikaisemminkin. odotuksena tuuri juuri sitä mitä odotin, paskaa. tältä kuulostaa paskat rolling stones albumit, varmaan paras kings of leon albumi happy alone
Couldn't finish. Singer is just awful
Okay…
Just sounds like a shitter Tom Petty
Not my bag.
I really thought I would like this album because I’ve heard some of their other songs, and was looking forward to a whole album of them but genuinely this was awful. A real turning point for me was the song Trani, and at that point, I realized I hate this band. I don’t know if this was a really big selling album but all I know is that it’s terrible.
Very raw and unfinished sound
Good example of the early 2000s revival of the classic rock sounds. The lead singer's voice is annoying as a boil on your rear. The babyish indie boy vocal style sucks horribly.
Knowing what I know of the last few albums from KOL, this sounds nothing like them. I didn’t look into it, but I think they found new producers for the future albums because this album seems very amateur. Also has some full blown Bob Dylan vibes, which is probably why I didn’t really like it. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Wasted
Ganske irriterande
Oh ok. So the debut was also in the book once. Quickly revisit my notes from the second album, I mentioned hearing snippets of this on adverts lots, and "...affected singing....mildly bluesy rock quite boring...like a less good Strokes...won't be bothering listening to the debut..." So I guess I was wrong on that last one. Everything else? Check, check, check. If it wasn't annoying it was just on. Open your fucking mouth properly, man. Mind you when he did, we got that Sex on Fire toilet stuff.
Two entries for this crappy band whose 15 minutes of fame have long been over? Why???
I can't fucking stand this baby talk vocal thing that's happening here. Can't get past it. I got three songs in. I did what I could, guys. God speed.
Well, here’s what I know: rock n’ roll must have been in a really weird damn place in 2003 for how much hype was given to records that absolutely do not hold up twenty years later. My memory is that this is one of those albums from an American band that did well everywhere except America, which makes perfect sense that it’s included on this list. But oh man did it annoy me. You know that one song where the singer was basically screaming? It made me cringe inside my soul, and I still think it might be the best moment on the record. It’s safe as hell and basically a Coldplay song, but I would rather listen to “Use Somebody” a dozen times in a row than hear some of these songs more than twice.
oh i did not care the lead vocals one bit. they quite ruined this album for me. i guess outside of the vocals, the music was ok. tolerable. it just sounded like a repeat of garage rock in the seventies. youth and young manhood was a slog. i've rated better albums a 2, so we're in 1 territory.
I've always thought these guys were comically overrated, even before the whole Sex on Fire thing. They just do nothing interesting, and the dude's over the top accent is so grating.
This came out during a period in my life when I couldn't afford CD's or even the Internet for a bit there. So I missed the garage rock thing. It flashed so fast that by the time I would have gotten into it, it was over. I only share that to say that I had never heard this before but only by coincidence. I like the Hives and The Vines okay I guess but I haven't much history with any of them. Why does every song have the same rhythm? Like drums and guitars are the same rhythm for 75% of this record. Cutting to the chase, this is not good. It's super bland, the guitars sound like shit, and there is nothing here to hook anyone.
quirky white girl anthem, coming thru.
Couldn't get past the main singer's voice. It's so weepy, moany, and slurs his words so hard it's difficult to make out a single word out of it
Je m'en fouuuus
Sounds like somebody trying to do a purposefully bad Southern parody of a California punk band. Would be a good SNL sketch, makes for a bad actual album though
