4 Great songs and the rest are godawful.
Let me start off by saying that I don't really like the Police or Sting's music. I was honestly pretty disappointed to see this pop up as my recommendation for the day. But hey, I'll give it a shot. As I expected, I don't really like it. It took until Synchronicity II for me to feel like I appreciated a song. Of course, then it slipped away immediately with Every Breath You Take. I'll chalk that one up to overexposure, though, since I think it's a vastly misunderstood song and probably isn't as bad as I usually consider it. I actually did like the next two songs a decent bit (King of Pain and Wrapped around Your Finger), but I'm not sure if they were actually good or just better than what the rest had been. Other than that grouping, I wasn't impressed with the rest. I don't exactly know what it is that turns me off from this band. Their name is bad for starters (F12). And sure, I don't love Sting's voice. I also don't care for the music itself. None of those things really feel like enough on their own. But put it all together and I just can't get into it at all. There's probably more to it, but I don't want to listen to more to try to figure it out. I may never know. (I'm sure they have at least one more album on here though.) For me, this album was a lot more miss than hit. There were only a few songs I'd say I found good. The rest were OK at best (being kind). A lot of it is personal preference, but I think this album is bordering on being bad. It's barely saved by the couple songs that are good enough to bring it up slightly. I'm not going to listen to it again, though. Overall: 1.9/5
Like it has Every Breath You Take, but that's really it. Otherwise mid.
I’ve never understood the appeal of The Police, this was my first full album listen and I can confidently state that they’re not for me. The music is weird at times but not the good kinda weird because this is also absolutely boring. The music is dull, I find the lyrics confusing, there really isn’t anything happening that I find enjoyable about this album. Defund The Police. 2 stars
There was one song I knew, and there was a few songs I really didn’t like. I need to see where this was in the Police discography.
Meh. Oddly paced album. Breath you take is bang out of place.
Mother was unironically my highlight.
I really do not know what I think about this one. Synchronicity 1 I really disliked- almost no lyrics and really repetitive. Walking in Your Footsteps was weird with the dinosaur stuff. Didn’t like Mother. King of Pain and Synchronicity II are good. Idk we can average this out to a 2.
I don't get it. "Every breath you take" is such a wonderful song, then you listen to the album at once, and its just so awful. The first half alone is so painful, it feels so dated, which is disappointing. So many albums from this decade can be listened to over and over again, and then you have this thing. I feel like "every breath you take" is the only reason this thing sold at all. Again, I just don't get it.
more like stupidity
I tried to like it but couldn’t get through. “Mother” didn’t help. I liked Reggatta much more, this one felt a bit soulless and masturbatory.
It was okay. Every breath you take was good but everything else was either not memorable or just felt kinda off. Like they were forcing a vibe. But I'm not the biggest Police fan
Honestly liked it better than I thought I would. Edgier than some of their later stuff. A bit all over the place.
I like several The Police songs and yet this album has zero of them?! Kinda all over the place with styles and just not pleasant to listen to.
A few good bites and a lot of sawdust
Idk, man, I went into this album with a pretty positive impression of the police, but the hits held up less well than I thought they would and the rest of the songs *really* didn't do it for me.
“Every breath you take” is great but the rest just don’t hit for me.
Lost a star because of “Mother”
Dissonant. Upsetting. 2/5
aside from the 1 song this was a painful listen
2.5 Wasn’t really into it. Other than the into track, mother (did not like), and every breath, they all kinda blended together for me
Kinda boring and uninspiring ngl 2.4/5
3/5 stars (6.5/10) Favourite song: Every Breath You Take Least favourite: Mother
For me, this is the worst album The Police ever made.
Ikke min kopp te. Noe bra, men for mye ræl.
Couldn't wait for it to be over
multidimensional in the sense that some songs are awful and hard to get through (Walking in Your Footsteps [why are we seeking community with the dinosaurs, stupid], Mother [loser male behavior, EVERY girl you date turns into your mother??? seems like you are the common denominator here buddy], Miss Gradenko [am I missing something about this one? what’s going on], while some are just solid classics (Every Breath You Take, King Of Pain) and the rest of them being just fine. had higher hopes for The Police and Sting but maybe the hype doesn’t live up to the actual music. fine, but i probably won’t be listening to it again
I had this on cassette when I was in 7th grade. I listened to it a lot but I don’t really remember most of these songs. I feel like I only listened so much because I had so few other choices. This album represents the beginning of the end for The Police. Frankly, it’s kind of stupid.
I didn’t expect this one to start as pretty much a Bowie/Eno album, with Sting’s scratchy voice over the top. Take out the vocals and I liked it. Synchronicity II is great. Then side 2 starts with possibly the worst Police song, and doesn’t really improve.
This is a weird album. I would not have guessed this was the Police if i didn't already know
Very 80s, I'm on the first track and it feels like I'm straight in some montage in a B-movie. I've only ever really heard the chart-toppers from the Police, but at least initially I was pleasantly surprised. Following tracks are less interesting. It's not an offensive album, but ultimately quite dull.
5/10 - Almost gave it a 4, the first half of the album really did not do it for me. Felt like it was missing something. As a fan of modern production, it also felt a little bit of basic at times. Mother stood out, not because I liked it, but just how weird it felt out of context. But the Every Breath you take started and reminded me why it is a classic. Honestly, this song alone pulls this album up. The following songs felt a bit better too, King of Pain was decent, Tea in the Sahara was a nice calm one, and I also liked Murder by Numbers more then most of the songs in the album. Probably won't be re-listening to it, but not a terrible album for me either.
I like the music, but I just really hate Sting's vocals. 2/5
Ugh, for me this doesn't sound good in 2025 but the second side is massively superior than the first (with the well known songs on it). Unfortunately the dreadful first five songs make it a 2 for me
I'm giving it a 2 not necessarily because the music was bad - with some notable exceptions - but rather it was just so incredibly boring to listen to. And if you add the unbridled creepiness of Mother and Every Breath You Take it gets even worse. Very generous 2, probably helped by my partial liking of the opening track.
- New wave/post-punk/pop rock/art rock album - Forgettable?? Nothing particularly stuck out (obvs minus 'Every Breath You Take') - 'Mother' was certainly unforgettable though, had me genuinely side-eye my laptop screen where Spotify was playing, shocking me out of the work I was doing, because I was so confused/shocked by what I was hearing lmao - Favourites: Miss Gradenko, Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take
Don't like the sound. Find Sting annoying.
If it wasn't for the second half of the album it would be a dud
Every Breath You Take
I was in my early 20s when this album came out along with the Talking Heads, REM, David Bowie and others. This pales in comparison. No one I knew at the time listen to The Police and this album is an example why.
"Every vial you break"? Really? How many of us are breaking vials on the regular? Mother is in insane. The rest is insipid. Whole album sounds like the greasy middle-aged dude that tries to dance with uni students at every night club.
I liked the first side more, particularly ‘Mother’ and ‘Synchronicity II’. Side 2 felt like a warning about where Sting's solo career would lead. Also something about the production and vocals here that I didn't care for. I don't think I'd listen to the full album again. Really disliked 'Tea in the Sahara'.
Two days ago it was the cookie-cutter reggae of UB40, yesterday was the fractured reggae of The Slits and today brings The Police, purveyors of a rock-reggae fusion that yielded terrific tracks like "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and "Walking On The Moon". The needle settles down on side one of *Synchronicity* but something is terribly wrong. Two songs go by and there's not a hint of reggae, just mechanical, synth-driven rock. The riddim finally appears on the third track "O My God" which sounds like a warmed-over track from the *Ghost In The Machine* sessions. Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland then each offer up one oddball tune each, after which Sting retakes charge for the straight-ahead and not-terribly-inspired rock of "Synchronicity II". Hmm. Maybe some of The Police's old magic will show up on side two. No such luck. From the first notes of "Every Breath You Take", it's clear that we are going to be getting a sanitized version of the band, with all of the reggae bleached out of their sound. On this track Andy Summers picks out an routine arpeggio on the guitar over a standard rock chord progression and the usually dynamic Stewart Copeland is reduced to little more than a metronome. On "King Of Pain" the production turns the band into a generic new wave outfit. Sting then rattles a series of trite and/or pretentious rhymes in "Wrapped Around You Finger" which hints a *tiny* bit at dub but for most part is another bland and glossy number. More pretentious nonsense follows with "Tea In The Sahara" and then this thing is thankfully over. And it sold zillions of copies. The musically oversimplified and dumbed-down version of the band is what became phenomenally successful. The three musicians in The Police are extremely talented but it's alarming to see them weaponize those skills to crank out a such a whitebread record.
Bonus points for the song "Mother" Just kidding Best Song: Every Breath You Take Rating: 4.5/10 Stars: 2
It's a weird album, at first. I understand the raised eyebrow to 'Mothers', the album is a bit like they walked into the studio and saw all the instruments and hardware and went 'yes all of this has to be on the album' but it works in a slightly 80's way. Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take. Good songs. Enjoyed 'King of Pain'. Defo down the middle kind of album. First half let it down.
Wack
Some good but majority not for me
Every Breath You Take is the only thing that saved it from being a 1-star
I had to pause before writing anything because all I could think was "what the heck did I just listen to?" It was weird in the worst way. very dated. Trying to be mainstream/ futuristic but came across pandering and like cultural appropriation. I gave one extra star because King of Pain & Wrapped Around your Finger are jams.
If I'd listened to this album on its release,I probably would have been amazed and saddened by the popularity of the band. Yes, Sting was great to look at and the rhythms are catchy but the themes are so dark and the misogynistic undertones hard to ignore
There are a couple of real bangers on here, but there are even more big misses. This just hasn't aged too well for me.
mmm police don't do it for me
One belter of a song, the rest not so much
Synchronicity I is boring to me, but the idea of Jung's synchronicity is interesting to me. Walking in Your Footsteps also does not sound great to me. Interesting comments about humanity's extinction and parallels to the extinction of the dinosaurs. O My God, I like the funky nature of this song. Although I don't really care for the religious stuff. At least it's questioning God a bit. "How can I turn the other cheek? It's black and bruised and torn" Mother is a track I just really don't care for. I guess the Freudian stuff is at least a bit interesting. Miss Grandenko, I just don't get this one at all. Doesn't sound the worst but just not interesting to me. Synchronicity II sounded alright but the lyrics weren't interesting me much. Every Breath You Take is obviously a classic, definitely sounds better than the previous songs. Still not something I would find myself listening to. It is funny that people think this is a love song though. King of Pain is probably my favorite track so far. It's pretty catchy and the lyrics are a little interesting. Wrapped Around Your Finger might be even better, I like the literary references and it sounds good. "I can see the destiny you sold Turn into a shining band of gold" is probably my favorite line on the album so far. Tea in the Sahara is alright. Maybe if I understood the literary references to "The Sheltering Sky" I would enjoy it more. Murder by Numbers is something I'm surprised I haven't heard before. I don't really care for it all that much but it's not bad. I just thought I'd see it in some kind of media where there are murders lol. Overall I don't really care for the album. I think I would just end up listening to random hit songs from The Police, like Roxanne.
I have to say the first few tracks were pretty bland and I wasn’t looking forward to listening to the rest. The back half, though, greatly improved. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this happen during this project, which makes me wonder if it just takes me a while to warm up to the artist’s sound. In any case, though, the album was okay but not really my cup of tea. Standout songs for me were Wrapped Around Your Finger and Mother.
Honestly I think there is one memorable song on the record and the rest are forgettable, after listening to a couple of their albums I do not get the hype behind the police
I did not really like this album. It was a bit all over the place. Then it's rock then a little bit of jazz vibes (murder by numbers). But every breath you take is still a banger. Solid 5/10
Ehhh
Its fine. Its the police
Pretty dire except Every Breath You Take, rest sounds like samples of a university band
Sting is one of those guys who is desperate to prove how smart and deep and spiritual he is, and he sees art as a vehicle for ego rather than expression. I've always really fucking hated Sting because he's someone with a real knack for melody, but he's also someone whose talent just does not match his ambition at all, and he's hampered by the aforementioned desperation to prove himself. I imagine being in a band with two people whose musical talents completely eclipsed his made that a hell of a lot worse - "Sting, man, you're not even the best musician IN YOUR OWN BAND." Sting is the kind of guy who reads books and feels the need to prove it to you. Sting is one of the worst lyricists in rock history because he writes lines like these "I have only come here seeking knowledge, things they would not teach me of in college" "Hey there, Mr. Dinosaur, you really couldn't ask for more" "We have to shout over the din of our Rice Krispies" and think, "Yeah, looks good." Every Police album seems like a watered-down version of whatever was cool and cutting-edge six months earlier, and this one is no exception. Feels like Peter Gabriel and Genesis and all that kind of stuff, right down to using the same behind-the-scenes guy (Hugh Padgham). BUT - this is the best set of songs Sting ever produced. "Every Breath You Take" shows what he can do when he stops trying to prove how fucking cool he is and just decides to write a really fucking good song. "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger" mostly take that approach, too. Same with "Synchronicity I" and "Synchronicity II," which are less successful but still OK. But the other songs? Holy fucking shit, the rest of the album is SO FUCKING BAD. "Mother," "Miss Gradenko," "Tea in the Sahara," "Walking in Your Footsteps," "O My God," they are all SO BAD they drag down everything else. And even the good songs have really shit lyrics. There is only one song on this album that doesn't make me cringe at least a little, and that's "Every Breath You Take." One flawless song does not make a classic album. Here's how the songs break down individually - 5 - "Every Breath You Take" No notes, basically flawless song. 4 - "Wrapped Around Your Finger" Some real cringe lyrics in there, but otherwise solid. "King of Pain" Great melody and arrangement, cheeseball lyrics. "That's my soul up there" over and over gets really grating. 3 - "Synchronicity I" "Synchronicity II" Same problem with both songs. Sting is really trying to show you how deep and smart he is, and it hampers what are otherwise pretty solid songs. 1 - "Mother" "Miss Gradenko" "Tea in the Sahara" "Walking in Your Footsteps" "O My God" All unlistenable trash. This is HALF THE ALBUM. And it drags it down sooooooo much. Average that out and you get 2.4, which gets rounded down to a 2. Not even musicianship like that of Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers can make up for the immense flaws of this set of songs. Great musicianship means very little to me if they're playing bad material.
2.3
(46/100)
There are a few I really like.
Fuck The Police. Mostly fuck Sting. Not Sting the wrestler, though. He’s cool.
I'm all over the Police's hits but as an album this isn't too spectacular.
Meh...... I feel this album was here for just a couple songs
Banger of the album: Murder By Numbers I just don't vibe with The Police, some people do ACAB
Stewart Copeland composed the music for the Spyro games so I enjoyed hearing similarities from those games that I grew up playing. Didn't enjoy some of the more "out there" tracks like Mother but overall, not a bad listen.
Some songs that are exactly what you expect from the police, others not so much. I'll stick to the odd songs.
I know people love Sting but man is he a terrible songwriter. The melodies are boring, the lyrics are insipid, the rhyme schemes are all just AAAA or ABAB. The track about dinosaurs sounds like it was written for a 5th grade science project.
Synchronicity mostly sounds rough and demo-ish, with only a couple tracks carrying any real melody, the rest feeling more like filler than a finished album.
I was excited to listen to Synchronicity, as it had been years since I gave a proper listen. I've had a high opinion of The Police, but revisiting this album is forcing me to reevaluate. This album is consistently touted as The Police's definitive best album, but I don't understand how anyone could think that. The quality is all over the place and there are so many questionable choices on display here: First off, "MOTHER"???!!! Secondly, I hate that the best song on this record (and the biggest The Police song) is the one about a possessive stalker. There are other weird lyrical choices or songs that are just guilty of sounding lame or both ("Wrapped Around Your Finger", "Murder by Numbers", "Walking In Your Footsteps") that just make listening a chore. That's not to say Synchronicity is completely devoid of charm. "King of Pain" and "O My God", while a little formulaic, stand as most representative of The Police's sound and are pretty good jams. And it's a little lame, but I do enjoy "Tea in the Sahara". But as whole, this album is such a miss.
THE ALBUM 2/10 overall. The entire first part of the album is trash, I wouldn't let my worst enemies listen to this. The second part saves it from a worse score. Easily the worst album in The Police's entire discography. Would've been way nicer if the experimental songs were put at the back to have some actual okay songs to listen to at the start. Special shoutout to "Mother" for one of the worst songs my ears ever had to endure. THE SONGS IN ORDER - Synchronicity I: Interesting opening, sounds a bit like Pink Floyd, but faster. Did you know it's about sychronicity? If not then the song tells you about it a 1000 times. 3/10 - Walking In Your Footsteps: History about dinosaurs? Weird to mention nukes but okay, experimental, not my taste. 3/10 - O My God: OMG it's stereotypical 70s/80s music, who woulda thunk? Really nothing special about it honestly. 3/10 - Mother: Who fusioned Iggy Pop & David Gilmour into one dysfunctional acid trip? I bet the songs is called like it because you scream for your mum to stop it. Torture/10 - Miss Gradenko: meh, I guess it has a vibe going on, just not mine. 3/10 - Synchronicity II: definitely better than any other previous song on this album. 4/10 - Every Breath You Take: swiggity swooty - EBYT is one of The Police's most coveted songs for a reason. Goes hard if you love vibing to well composed music. This song doesn't belong on this album. Also if you know the lyrics' meaning,... 9/10 - King Of Pain: This sound is what The Police is best known for, very chill, very Police. Would listen to it again if being asked. 6/10 - Wrapped Around Your Finger: another typical 80s song, but now Sting actually uses his voice to more extend. Better than expected, sounds very rounded and chill. Lyrics sound like the logical succession to EBYT. 8/10 - Tea In The Sahara: Influences from Walking On The Moon are definitely audible, overall nice to listen to. 6/10 - Murder By Numbers: Strong Jazz influences, also a bit experimental, pretty groovy. You can bet this song was made for Audiophiles, but missed the mark. 5/10
general notes: typical sting/the police, interesting music that you can very quickly overdose (sometimes during one listening of a single song). overall doesnt have a continuity feel to it, but its not their thing anyway so we ball synchronicity I - great vibe, 100% overdose walking in your footsteps - never been a fan, sounds like budget peter gabriel's "in your eyes" o my god - giga groove, the bass line is just so simple yet crisp, love the way instruments keep adding onto that simple theme, especially the sax. Small % overdose, that bass line does get old mother - ghetto early pink floyd with no sauce at all miss gradenko - decent, but nothing inventive, 500% overdose synchronicity II - sI but a bit less sauce imo every breath you take - mega classic, 100% would stalk someone to this. honestly never realized it has like no instruments, yet sounds so good. king of pain - kinda dogshit ngl. feels like if they went with a different chord progression it would bang wrapped around your finger - the boring build up, which doesnt really build shit is worth getting through for the chorus. one of those warm feeling bangers that you rediscover once a year, cause of the stuff you need to get through to get to the banger part tea in the sahara - diabolical chord progression witness. Gooning endlessly, chill song i wouldnt skip nor come back to intentionally murder by numbers - vanessa hudgens sneakernight of 1983. in all honesty its decent, but nothing special. also doesn't feel like the last song of an album
Only one good song the rest was mid
I am fairly ambivalent to the first half of the album. The second half of the album sounds more like The Police I know, which is a sound I don't particularly care for. Why then a 2, and not a middle-of-the-road 3? Mother.
Inget emot the police men förstod inte detta albumet. Gillade egentligen bara synchronicity ii Every breath you take är så överskattad
Ihan ok, 2/5
Not inoffensive, not brilliant. Bits of hey day reggae bits of talking head influence attempts at left field. All pretty bland.
I really didn’t like it. I just liked the one I knew.
2nd half of the album is better, from Synchronicity II onwards. 1st half is pretty bad. I wouldn't want to listen to this album again.
Mother?? More like oh brother, this guy stinks!! Plus one for the song about the brontosaurus.
I’m just starting to think I don’t really enjoy The Police’s sound very much
My Police phase was 30 years ago and very short-lived, but I'm glad I gave this album a chance, if only so I could hear Sting sing a song to dinosaurs.
high 2 low 3, not completely garbage but still not great
what happened to calling things easy listening
Favorites: Every Breath You Take Wrapped Around Your Finger Murder By Numbers Every Breath You Take stands out, but the rest of the album seems like mostly unrefined tracks. Coherence picks up at the end of the album though.
To be honest, I didn't get a chance to listen too closely to this one, but I think I'm okay with that. How much fucking new wave is on this list? It's all kind of the same? Just a stumble away from pop? This was okay. Some good ones. I guess I'm not a Sting fan. Fave songs: - Synchronicity I - Synchronicity II - Every Breath You Take - Murder By Numbers
Not a big fan
- It was alright, not the best. - I liked some of the songs but it did feel like I was waiting for the album to end. I didn't mind this album but I wouldn't listen to a lot of the songs again. I would listen to a couple again though.
Nah
Walking in your footsteps and mother are awful, and I’ve always felt like I’ll be watching you is a creepy Christmas sounding song. I also feel like so many of these songs are technically complicated for the sake of it, it doesn’t add much to the music. Overrated band in my opinion.
Hear it before. Truly a mixed bag, some songs were cool and some really damn confusing. But overall rather forgettable 2/5
Hey there Mr dinosaur
Not for me. Hated 'Mother, the rest was pretty dull other than the classic 'Every Breath You Take'. I find listen figures on Spotify interesting too, so heavily weighted to every breath, no need to listen to any other song on the album. 3/10
OK. The Police, or as they're now known: "Sting". This might be the first Police album I've ever listened to. In general I really disliked the first half - I found it repetitive and boring. The nadir in particular was "Mother" which wasn't a pleasant listen. But by the time we were onto the second half - from "Every Breath..." onwards I was really getting into it. I feel like Sting really found his stride. "King of Pain", "Wrapped Around...", "Tea in the Sahara", and "Murder by Numbers" were all excellent.
I never really got into The Police - a band I’ve always found overrated – but I’m at least familiar with their first two albums, which are decent enough for casual listening. Synchronicity, however, has very few redeeming qualities in my opinion. The punk and reggae influences that made Outlandos d’Amour interesting are gone. It’s a bland mix of easy-listening jazz and rock, with a touch of elevator-quality "world music". The only song I really like is "Mother" (the only one not by Sting...), mainly because its weird unhinged vibe. "Synchronicity II" is almost interesting, but it’s too little, too late. As for the famous "Every breath you take"... it’s so corny it gives me stomach burns. All in all a very forgettable album that only comforts me in my opinion of The Police.
Not sure what I thought on this one honestly. Mixed I guess and were trying things out, not all of them came off.
This album is soooo weird. The highs are high, but the lows are LOW. It definitely has some great songs and some bad ones. It had some wtf moments. It didn't really feel like the Police tbh. I keep going between a 2 or a 2.5 but I think I'll lock it in as a 2.5. Liked Songs: "Synchronicity I" , "Miss Gradenko" , "Synchronicity II" , "Every Breath You Take" , "King Of Pain" , "Wrapped Around Your Finger"
2-3/5, it’s alright. I like “every breath you take” ofc, but other songs don’t hit as good
Ruim demais
I don't get the hype. The songs aren't that good. The biggest hit is a creeper song, and Mother is something that shouldnt have been made. This is a miss.
Some interesting stuff going on, but not enough for a second listen. Once the album finished Spotify played the far superior “Something About You” by Level 42.
This is the second Police album that I’ve listened to, and the second time I’ve been massively disappointed. A couple of good songs surrounded by uninspiring and/or pretentious pseudo-jazz/reggae. Don’t get it. Don’t like it.
By far the worst Police album. Sting had fully disappeared up his own arse by this point. Drums are still great but that's about it. If this made it in then I presume the other 4 police albums also did because they're way better - at least one if them is 4 stars
I always presumed that the police were a bit shit without ever making the effort to find out for sure. I was doubting myself 30 seconds into the first song but then Sting started singing and thankfully my instincts proved correct. I prefer the puff daddy version.
İt is a good Vibe but doesnt Match my Daily one. Ideal to Listen while doing something chill. The Song mother really surprised me. Didnt See it coming
It's an entire album of morning alarm sounds and ringtones. Saved from a one by heroic efforts of synchronicity II alone
Det her rammer mig bare ikke. Det er lallet, og gøglet på en ringe måde. Det bliver et nej tak til mere sting fra nu af.
I had to skip almost every song on the first half of it because Sting’s voice was unbearable. Some decent songs on the back half but also Every Breath You Take is not that good considering how popular it is.
This is… not great. Bit of a mixed bag but mostly straying in to cringeworthy territory. They have not lasted the test of time. King of Pain is a banger though. I once spoke to a guy who had that tattooed round his neck. Pretty sure I blocked him after he sent me a dick pic. 2.5 (that’s the album rating not the pic)
Really liked 2-3 of the songs, the popular ones, the others - don’t like the back music, kinda annoying.
I really wasn’t enjoying this album in the first half, but I liked it a bit more as it progressed. 2.5 stars
This album has some great moments then ruins them. It’d be a 3 if Mother wasn’t such a horrible cacophonous mess
a very interesting collection of songs. Some thoughts I had while listening to this album include: -hell yeah dinosaurs -mommy issues? -oh I know this one I did appreciate the variety of different sounds and instruments 🎶 hey mighty brontosaurus Don’t you have a lesson for us 🎶
I can't help think some of these album choices are based on a single that kick a band in the limelight. This one by Police isn't great at all but has every breath you take on it. 2 for the song
Started off okay - then I heard "mother" could be the worst song I've heard in the last week, the vocals make my ears bleed and the shallowness of the sentiment trying to be offered by the song is just cringe to put it simply. Synchronicity seems like one of those albums that were included (in the 1001 albums collection) based off a single hit the band in question made, in this case "Every Breath You Take" which is of course an all timer, but the inclusion of this album off solely that is a bit questionable in my opinion. Not a huge fan of this, but it has it's highlights.
Not good. And I don't even mind Sting's voice. The hit is proper pop music, the two tracks after that didn't disgust me but overall, this was some dry, weird nonsense. NEXT!
Olivat kai tehneet kolme, neljä biisiä mennessään studioon. Oikean bändin lailla päättivät säveltää loput soitellen kimpassa. Lopputuloksena aivan ihmeellista skeidaa: Mother (miksi ihmiset puhuvat Oidipus-kompleksista yhtä usein kuin kritisoivat Freudia?), Miss Gradenko (ei, kukaan ei saa pitää tästä edes biisin hirveyden takia). Every Breath on 6/5, ja B-puoli on muutenkin menevää himmailua. Vika raita toiseksi kovin. 3-
Their fifth and final album. This album has an odd pace. It's lyrically dark at times which is no bad thing. This was the final album by The Police and for me it comes across as a band about to go their separate ways. I'm also not entirely a fan of Sting's vocals here. The albums sound is also very generic 80s Pop Rock at times. I prefer their earlier stuff.
Was shitty and boring
"ah yes, the 'every breath you take' album", said many people - can you blame them? the song currently has 38 times as many spotify streams as the second biggest song on the album - maybe one of the worst cases of this from a non one hit wonder? anyway, i've never been too big on the police. sting very often uses a fake-ass jamaican accent that screams cultural appropriation, and when they aren't making shitty cod reggae, they're just really boring. (also their band name did not age the best considering modern day issues.) i've realized that "every breath you take" is actually very out of place in their catalog, it sounds nothing like all the cheeseball new wave / reggae fusion on the rest of the album. there's also tracks like "mother", in which he sounds like he's having a fucking mental breakdown. I wanted to like this, but sadly it didn't impress me at all. favorite song: every breath you take. I know it's a cop-out, but it's an objectively great pop song that's as well known as it is for a reason. sure it's creepy, but that just makes it more interesting. overall: 4/10
They have better music than is what's on this album
decent, not gonna get more plays from me
A messy pile of cultural appropiation. Some instrumentals were good, but an overall uninteresting record.
fine overall. good to know what the bitches are fucking w. weird beats going on in the background of every breath you take that i’ve never noticed
It’s almost astounding how indifferent I feel towards this album. It was just…there. 2.5/5
A classic track wrapped up in a bang average album! No other way of looking at this one for me :(
Everyone giving this high ratings seems to be doing so out of nostalgia. Let me assure you as someone with fresh ears, this sucks so bad
Only really knowing Police singles, I was not ready for how fuckin weird this record is. Damn. Also, what’s going on with Sting’s African(?) accent? When they’re playing rock songs I dig it. When they’re doing “Mother” I certainly am not.
I hadn't listened to much by the Police. This album was...not their best. Sorry Sting, you seem cool AF though
I just imagine a room full of desk jockeys, with headphones on all thinking they are ones in the know and the rebel. Bul the willretire from their position after nearly 40 years.
A mix of brilliance and rambling self indulgence. Good and bad in equal measures. Not their finest album.
I should really like this album. Sting is an interesting singer and a good writer. The instruments - particularly the drums - are stellar. It's able to be poignantly simplistic (Every Breath You Take) and it's also able to be intricate and complex (Synchronicity II). But this is all too polished, which wouldn't be a problem on another record but is a rather big one on an album that is so consoicuously in search of some kind of a sharp edge.
I honestly expected a more interesting album. It was maybe because the band was The Police and I already knew some well-known songs, but this was honestly quite a deceiving album. The first part of it was pretty average kinda meh/boring but the title "Mother" really made me uncomfortable and I was honestly wondering when tf he was gonna stop laughing in a crazy way and when this song was gonna stop- except this boring (and weird at some point) start, the end of the album got some good titles like obviously "Every Breath You Take" and "King Of Pain" and was raising the bar a little. So basically this album was not at my taste, some tracks were good but the album itself was kinda forgettable. But I mean The Police are definitely an overrated band overall and I'm not gonna even talk about Sting. There is something annoying and boring about this album but I can't exactly explain what, so to resume there are some good songs but the bad ones are just terrible.
A classic album, haven’t listened to much of The Police before but definitely prefer Sting’s solo stuff
I love The Police, but this album is a stinker. A real sour note for them to go out on. Mad that they only have two albums on the entire list and this is somehow one of them. Justice for Outlandos D’Amour!
Only like 3 good songs
Weird album. Some offbeat tracks
A few classics. 2/5
theres some incredible stuff in here. every breath you take obviously. wrapped around your finger is great. but theres some real minced dog shit in here too. Mother? how bout leave that one on the cutting room floor, yeah? I did enjoy the album, but i dont think id listen to it as a whole again.
Police occupy that same place in my brain as U2 where I think they’re largely understood to be pretty lame but have some bangers. Bono and Sting same brand of weird cringe guys. I dunno, they’re both more talented than I’ll ever be so I shouldn’t really judge. I think I like U2 more, but this first song hitting HARD. Wow. Okay I’m strapped in let’s see what the Police have for me and what kind of star-rating number between 1 and 5 they can pull out of me. King of Pain > Synchronicity I > Synchronicity II > Wrapped Around Your Finger > Walking In Your Footsteps > O My God > Murder by Numbers > Every Breath You Take > Miss Gradenko > Tea in the Sahara > Mother > “Hey mighty brontosaurus! Don’t u have a lesson for us?” Hahahaha what. Yeah this is fine. Very adult contemporary radio. Nothing too offensive. King of Pain and the two “Synchronicity” tracks are pretty great, but not doing enough to pull the overall album experience up to a 3.
before I've even opened up this album (which I think I own the record of): I DON'T CARE!!!!!!
Listening to this album further cemented the fact that I do not like this band one bit
I don’t like Sting’s voice and I’m not a fan of his cod reggae, which I find becomes offensive at times on this offering. Not for me at all and not required listening in my view
OK, nothing special 2.5/5
Really underwhelming. Some of the songs were ok, (every breath you take is great, obviously) but a pretty disappointing album. I expected better from the police.
I'm not convinced this list needed two Police albums, but whatever. Sting is Sting, the Police are the Police, you know what you're getting into.
The album that reveals what a pompous ass Sting really is. I like every Police album a little bit less than the one before. The magic of the Police was Sting’s incredible gift for melody, tied to Stewart Copeland’s technically-magnificent-chaotic-urgency, sprinkled with Andy Summer’s wonderful atmospherics. But by this album, Sting’s insecurity had sidelined Copeland and we’re left with this collection of radio-friendly confections masquerading as high-art. It’s nauseating. Nothing reveals the disconnect between Sting’s opinion of himself and the reality like Every Breath - guy sets out to write a song about a stalker but makes the recording so pretty that it became one of the best-selling love songs of all time. This album is also a perfect demonstration of the horrid impact of solid-state technology. The performances on Synchronicity II should make the track an absolute rocker. But, like the rest of the album, from this perspective it just sounds flat and tinny. Ugh.
Alright listen. Skipped over the 3rd track due to its potentially(or likely) blasphemous nature. The rest of the songs are alright. They have that classic 1980s sound, but personally I wasn’t too into it. Probably like a 5/10 imo.
A few good songs, but overall meh
I liked a couple of songs … the rest range from forgettable to terrible (Mother … I’m looking at you 👀)
I hate Sting, I don't like the Police. They took all the excitement from punk and turned it boring. 1/5. This album is meh, I hate the production and drum sound. Sting is a cunt as always.
# Album Name: Synchronicity # Artist: The Police # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: I have always enjoyed singles ive heard from the police over the years. They have some great tunes. When i saw this pop up I thought, great! this should be a banger. Honestly, i am not sure what i have just listened to. The first half of this album was terrible. And i dont say that lightly. I cant believe "every breath" was from this album. Its totally out of place. Mother was absolutely awful. The album didnt get going until track 6 - Sync II. Theres a couple of good songs then finishes quite average again. Very dissapointed in this album. Took a few tracks away from it but i wouldnt listen again in a hurry. # Top Tunes: Sync II / Every breath you take / king of pain # Would I listen to it again? No
Overall, eh. The Police has never been my jam and this proves they never will be. Listen to this if you’re old and want to be reminded of that. Synchronicity I, 6.5/10- very groovy. A pretty good intro to this weird album. Walking In Your Footsteps, 5.5/10- it makes me think of a Klasky Csupo cartoon. Like I can totally hear this in The Wild Thornberrys movie. O My God, 7.5/10- So far this is my favorite. Lovin that guitar. Mother, 3/10- wtf Miss Gradenko, 5.5/10- Nice little tune. Way too short. Synchronicity II, 7.7/10- Another favorite. This definitely fits the Police vibe better than the first Synchronicity. Every Breath You Take, 6/10- Such creepy lyrics for such a mellow tune. Kinda like a more lowkey version of Hey Ya. It’s alright. King of Pain, 7/10- I like the lyrics. Very melancholic. Wrapped Around Your Finger, 7.5/10- Very catchy and ends perfectly. Tea in the Sahara, 4.5/10- I don’t really like the chorus. Everything else about it is fine. Murder By Numbers, 7.5/10- Very good end to this alright album.
Very disappointing Only good one is every breath you take
Not a Police fan. Was not persuaded to change my mind after listening to this album.
eh? not my vibe i guess
Yikes
just not very good
ehh not my favourite boy band
2- Stars (4/15)
Earns a star for the fun 80s production alone. Just wish the actual songs were better.
Meh. Couple of decent songs to make up for the stalker song. Mother was a real surprise, with a crazy burlesque jazz vibe
Nah
Bit crap. Not for me. Sting sings like a posh teacher twat in power stance playing speed reggae. Decent drums obviously but don’t like the sound. Lame
Not a huge fan of this band in general so. Meh.
Da bin ich raus. Ist mir zu gewollt intellektuell, experimentell. Und on Top der Klassik-Kuschelrock-Nerver Every Breath You Take. Brrrr.
I bet if I took a deep dive into the lyrics I might appreciate it more, but through just one listen I'm not a fan. It seems like everyone has an opinion on Sting's voice, but I'm impartial. Every Breath You Take is obviously legendary, and I liked Synchronicity I and II and King of Pain, but overall, I just don't like the new wave/funk 80s genre. 2/5
Langatmig, wenn auch mit Klassikern
Did Disney consider the Police for The Lion King soundtrack? Mother! +5 for surprise factor. Very Labyrinth. Album art note: shirtless Sting and skeleton. Multiple sightings of each. Every Breath You Take, a reflection: I now prefer stalker songs to be unequivocally menacing, i.e., #1 Zero.
Great tracks in the middle, but the rest of the album was super disjointed, specifically 'Mother', which seemed totally out of left field.
Listening to Mother was like reading Philip Roth. Ew dude
不好听,听不惯
The singles are great, the rest of the album is pretentious and forgettable.
Sure, nice
It was ok. Not my favorite.
Exceptionally okay
What a joke, one good song. Song about dinosaurs lmao
I was a little surprised to not enjoy this one really at all. I’m sure it was super interesting and innovative when it came out, and I quite like Sting’s voice in other music I’ve heard, but found most of this album really grating - also highjacking this review to say Diddy ruined the only good track on this album with his lame sampling (Also fuck Sean Combs - what a piece of shit)
I find this album a bit pretentious and hard to enjoy. The tracks like "Every Breath You Take" and "King of Pain" may be iconic, but the overall vibe of the album feels heavy on introspective themes and layered production, which may not resonate with everyone.
I thought this would be bland, but fair play - Mother is unhinged. Otherwise, some decent tunes and I can hear they are playing around with different genres/ideas, but somehow it just doesn’t grab my attention.
I just can't get into the Police.
Hadn’t heard any of this before obviously apart from Every breath you take which is a great track. Some other alright ones but didn’t set my world on fire
Man, I just don’t get the police at all. No idea how this was ever as popular as it was.
Gosto da música mas não da voz
Wow - it's not often an album leaves me lost for words! But here I am, struggling to articulate precisely why this left me so uninspired and annoyed.
Some good tunes.
a bit experimental yet so boring and only carried by "every breath you take" and regatta de blanc is better
Sting gets a little too art-schooley for me sometimes, but Synchronicity II deserves it's airplay, while I'll Be Watching You has well worn out it's welcome, as the most played song on the radio, and the weirdest choice for a wedding song. Also, wtf is Mother?
Mother is a terrible song. The Police love to repeat themselves This album: it’s fine The little clap at the end of Murder By Numbers, that’s about right.
Getting weird with new wave. It’s not a pleasant listen. Synchronicity II is good but the bridge is a bit droney. I thought I would be bored by Every Breath You Take because of how many times I’ve heard it, but I’m really liking it. Not sure if it’s because it’s that great or if it’s like an oasis amongst the rest of the tracks.
I can understand the appeal, but not for me. Standout song was probably King of Pain
There's like 3 good songs on this album.
Some fun vibes, but also some songs that should've never made the cut.
Probably the best new wave album I'll ever hear, though that's not saying much.
For some reason I have never enjoyed stings singing style, his affectation. However, this album had some surprising elements like “mother” which was cool. Ultimately, not my things but I appreciate the bass, and the undeniable hits that came out of it.
This was not great.
When I was a kid, I absolutely hated olives. They were so gross they’d make me gag. But everyone else seemed to love them and I wanted to share in their joy, so I’d try olives once a year or so to see if my palate had changed and I could hop on that train. It felt like a futile and a little masochistic for years, but I kept trying and finally had a delicious green olive when I was 25, and now I can’t get enough. I’ve always felt similarly about the Police - they don’t quite make me gag, but I keep trying to like them just like I did with olives, because how could so many people be wrong? I’ve never turned the corner in my musical palate and at this point don’t hold out much hope, but I respect the joy they bring to others.
Sting was an artist that I kind of grew up with. My mom would sometimes put on his CDs when cleaning the house on Saturday mornings. When I hear him I’m immediately transported to the mundane and have strong urges to vacuum the floor. I don’t know how to feel about Sting, honestly, and I know this is a Police album. Sometimes his songs are so incredibly annoying. I’m looking at you “Walking in Your Footsteps.” And what the eff was that “Mother” song? And whenever I think about what he does with his mouth when he sings 🤔….But then I have a soft spot in my heart for songs like “King of Pain” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger.” I can’t help myself. It’s like Sting tries to be an intellectual and it just comes off as pretentious, or maybe I’m too simple to grasp his genius 🤷♀️ Anyway, this album didn’t resolve any of my complicated feelings about Sting. It just muddied the waters even more.
Kinda boring and all over the place 3/10
I do not like Sting; no not one bit, I think his music is really shit. I will not listen to it in the car, I will not listen near or far. His voice is whiny; his lyrics dull, It makes me want to slam my skull. No Synchronicity; no magic here, Just painful singing that hurts my ear. It had it's moments; I will admit, But I still can’t say I’m a fan of it.
Synchronicity 1 - pretty sweet instrumentals. Vocals weren't as bad from Sting, better than on most other tracks of his Walking in Your Footsteps - Horribly grading vocals. Instrumentals were unique, interesting but not really my thing O My God - This song should be called, 'O My God, All The Reveb Dials Are Stuck On The Max, O Well It Can't Be Helped, Play On'. Just a nutty song overall. Mother - Christ this was more diabolical trash from Sting, maybe me feel really in uneasy, was that the point? At least the bass guitar work was decent. Miss Gradenko - once again, fucked up white boy reggae nonsense from Sting what I hated. Maybe the catchiest guitar hooks so far and solid instrumentals. I'm going insane. Synchronicity 2 - I really liked this one, more of a straight up and down rock song. Really nice tune. Fabulous and catchy instrumentals. Bipolar ass album. Every Breath You Take - The album very noticeably changes gears at this point, this track is way more polished and produced. Seems like they knew at this time this would be the hit. This might be one of the most lopsided albums for plays in Spotify that I've ever seen. Probably a side effect of the popular 80s playlist including it consistently. Definitely the best vocals and lyrics on the album. Production value of the instrumentals are top notch. King of Pain - this track really sucked. Bass and guitar work were good in parts but no where near good enough to save this. The fade out and restart towards the end was utter trash, why put that in the song, somehow made this song worse. Wrapped around your finger - the first minute and a bit of this song is torture, gets better for a moment when the instrumentals pick up before it's goes back to being rubbish again. I'm glad white boy reggae, at least in this form was short lived. The biggest slog on the album is this track I reckon. Tea in the Sahara - boring snoozer, album filler. This goes nowhere, how did it make it onto the album. Murder By Numbers - guitar and basswork is catchy, lyrics are fucking goofy, no thanks. Cut the clapping at the end, Christ. A few of decent tracks in this album, but its littered with forgettable stinkers. Sting's vocals and lyrics don't deserve these instrumentals.
Lead-based paint was federally banned for residential use in 1978 in the United States. While some states banned it earlier than that, the health effects would linger for years to come. In the 1983 Rolling Stone readers' poll, Synchronicity was voted "Album of the Year". There are two songs on this album that are not written by Sting, and they are far and away the worst songs on this album. In fact, the best way to enjoy this album is to completely skip everything until Synchronicity II. I have never had Spotify recommend me Synchronicity I, probably because its algorithm recognises that not a single person on God's grey earth would ever listen to this album from back to back more than once. Reading on wikipedia, the insane amount of cope around Mother is unreal. Stephen Holden from Rolling Stone noted that "corrosively funny 'Mother' inverts John Lennon's romantic maternal attachment into a grim dadaist joke." Yeah, get fucked mate it's just a shitty song that was shoved onto here so this would have enough material for an LP instead of an EP. Calling something Dadaist is the wanker's equivalent of pissing yourself on a night out and then saying you did it on purpose to protest poor bathroom quality/laws that criminalise public urination. Seriously, this song is so fucking ass and the justification is that Andy Summers had an overbearing mum. The duality of Br*tish people on full force here, Roger Waters' mummy issues gave us The Wall and Andy Summers' ones gave me a cluster headache. This album well and truly deserves a 1. How the fuck was this band considered the biggest in the world? I am convinced that Sting has dirt on music journos, this goes far beyond favouritism and nepotism. There must be something sinister going on here. This album got rave reviews and consistently appears in lists for best album of the year but Feline by The Stranglers gets nothing more than lukewarm reviews because Jet Black didn't have photos of the editor of Rolling Stone sucking off boys at Bohemian Grove. Also True by Spandau Ballet came out this same year and if you think that this is a better album than the one that has GOLD on it I will be more than willing to die to defend my opinion. I'm giving this shit a 2 for the three good songs on here. We may never again see such an album again but there is always hope. As of 2018, there are an estimated 37 million homes and apartments with lead paint in the United States. Highlights: Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger
Vakn yhdessä biisisi lyrocs...Uskomattoman unpopulra muut biisit!!! paskaa unpopulear paskaa unpoopulae kukaan ei pidä
ja du. Vilket album. Väldigt 80-taligt då man känner hur jävla mycket kokain som ingick i den kreativa processen. Den om hans mommy issues och den om dinosaurier va nog favoriter.
Walking in Your Footsteps is almost a joke or children's song, so slight and insubstantial it's hard to imagine why they bothered recording it. Otherwise plenty of soft synths and very crisp drumming. Super sharp, clear sound, but apart from that appreciation of the technical side, I don't actually like any of the songs on this album.
Painful, I just can't believe people like this, I do not get it or why in fact Sting is as famous as he is, great PR maybe? 2*
I guess I just find The Police quite bland-sounding, to the point where I had a hard time getting through this album. Not for me. Rating: 2
I could skip everything on this other than the singles. I don't like the "world music" inspired stuff.
Fucking police one of the fucking worst bands ever. Fuck gave it a listen again. Don't know why I knew I hated this record but you know fuck
Not for me. I understand why it’s included in the list. A lot of talent here, but I’ll never play this for fun.
2. One big track, the rest fillers
This will probably be against prevailing opinion but this is my least favorite Police album. Except for the tracks "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger" this should not have been a best selling album. Plus the one song that should creep everyone, "Every Breath You Take", which is hilariously as a romantic song for weddings. The rest are a miss mash of different styles that gives Gordon Sumner (aka Sting) a pretentious and arrogant vibe.
Gave it 2 before and here it lies.
.
Synchronicity? More like mediocrity!
Worse than I had expected. Sting’s voice, which I usually enjoy, was shrill and irritating. The songs felt like they were half done.
Matig
Der Großteil überzeugt mich nicht. Da bin ich wohl zu Mainstream.
Some classics on here for sure, but not a great album
My first exposure to a Police album. It's ok but I'll be sticking with the hits.
Wish I liked it more than I did. The dissonance doesn’t sound good to me. Lyrics didn’t capture me. A couple catchy riffs.
It was ok nothing amazing. Liked the sounds but not the lyrics, they were often uninteligable. I rate it a 2 out of 5 stars.
Walk in your foot steps?? It was like a track from cbbies!
Oh yeah, The Police, I like them. I have that greatest hits collection, it's great. Wait, what's that? It's a load of weird noise. But why? They made such great singles... OK, phew, here we go. Every Breath You Take. But no, that's it. Really the only memorable moment on this album. Earns it a second star on its own but I can't find any reason to go higher than two. Miss Gradenko has a cracking bassline, to be fair.
Really did not enjoy the first half of this one, then it picked up ok for the end. Still not a ton for me personally.
Every Breath You Take //
some punkier surprises in an album that features pop hit every breath you take, like a worse take on the violent femmes's style. i'm not sure if this album was included just because of every breath you take or?
Some songs were good. But the album overall was not for me. The song Mothers was definitely a bit too out there for my taste!
primeira parte do album: lixo radioativo queria bloquear musicas segunda parte: pop anos 80 radio antena 1 alegria um abraço quentinho 2,5 pq as ruins sao MUITO ruins.
Very interesting vibe here. “Mother” is wtf. I liked “Synchronicity II” and “Every Breath You Take”. The album got better after “Synchronicity II”, but still not that great overall.
I absolutely hate Sting as a vocalist. I absolutely hate lyrics that Sting is involved with. "Reggatta de Blanc" had enough interesting choices to somehow overcome this and be a good album, but this is just actively annoying from start to finish - except "Every Breath You Take", but that track has so many other problems that including it is not a plus for the album. On the other hand it's +1 for "Murder by numbers"
My main problem with the police is the repetitive song structure, it gets boring very quickly. It's not a terrible album though, middling 2.
Better than I expected, but not my cup of tea
2,5
++: Walking in Your Footsteps, O My God, Murder By Numbers +: Synchronicity I, Mother, Miss Gradenko, Synchronicity II, Tea in the Sahara +-: Every breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger 7,6/10
Meh.
Sting is a genious musician, BUT I'mnot a fan of his music.
Experimental, edgy, groundbreaking, pioneering, boring and sounds like shit.
I've never been a huge Police fan. I like their hits but the rest are kinda meh.
This album has been really conflicting to listen to, I'm a huge fan of the first police album, and this sounds nothing like that, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The title track is really strong, and builds up momentum for in maybe a controversial opinion that goes absolutely nowhere as I think side 1 is just kind of bad? Side 2 picks up again fairly quickly. I feel like a 2 is too harsh but a 3 is to high for how much I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.
If it wasn’t for ‘Every Breath You Take, this would’ve been a 1, and that song is creepy but at least it’s good. If I ever have to hear ‘Mother’ again I might scream.
I listened to this whole album and can’t figure out what it’s good at. Mediocre culture theft?
Not for me.
V jazzy, preferred their first earlier stuff.
Gives me a whiff of that dreaded term 'adult contemporary' 😬 though it's still actually pretty rad in places 😌
meh 2/5
I couldn't get into this one. There's some good songs in there, but it never captured my attention outside of the hits
Good album but I've had a hard time listening to The Police ever since high school.
more annoying than enjoyable
Some wierd ass shit on this album (Mother anyone?). Overall fine as background music but not life changing
I think this album was better later rather then earlier which I find is quite rare for an album. I think this is a decent album but they have dropped much better.
This was not it
I'm glad The Police stopped recording music after this album. Fuck the police. ACAB. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 3/5
Expected better.
Parit hyvät rallit, ei siinä.
Never have listened to this album fully. Only heard a few of the tracks before giving this a full listen through. Not a bad album but not a lot of great tracks to me. Synchronicity II is the only song on the album I really liked. Every Breath You Take still sounds real stalkery. The chorus of Murder By Numbers is just silly. "Murder by numbers ,one, two three. It's as easy to learn as your A,B,C,D,E".
Zusammengefasst gefällt mir genau ein Lied, Every Breath You Take.
FAVO: Every breath you take dan denk ik toch? , King of Pain
Apart from Every Breath you Take, not that great.
I don't care for Sting
This probably isn’t a 2-star album. I fully acknowledge that I may not judging fairly. However, I just didn’t enjoy this at all today, so a 2 it is.
Going through this list is making me realize just how much of classic bands leave me stone cold. Only track I really enjoyed was mother.
Not my cup of tea.
Had to turn off after Mother.
Favourite song - every breath you take
Feels like a “you had to be there in the 80s when this came out” album. The sound didn’t feel unique to me, felt like something that would be playing in the background of a country club gala that gets the old white folks going. “Walking in your Footsteps” was a highlight, but ultimately the album as a whole didn’t feel like anything special to me.
didn't care for this at all. so samey, sting's voice started to great, no real good hooks outside of 'every breathe you take'. disappointed
Don't care for it. Every breath you take is good.
I thought I was going to like this more than I did. I have seen them in concert and really enjoyed it —- really didn’t enjoy this album at all.
I hate the 80s
This reminded me of other albums we've listened to with 1 or 2 songs that are way more popular than anything else on the album, like the Everybody Hurts on the REM album or the Cars or Franz Ferdinand etc. Similarly, Every Breath You Take sounds very different from everything else on the album, which could be because I'm a lot more familiar with it or because its just different. But anyway the album itself was a bit of a letdown for me, only a couple enjoyable tracks.
Mid
This album doesn't flow, thanks to the embarrassing Mother track. They're trying to be the Talking Heads with all these world music influences, but simply lack the fun (and talent?). I'll stick to the Greatest Hits.
Decent album but The Police just feels so overrated that you go into it with higher expectations.
Generic rock
Mother is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.
I just listened to an NWA album from this list last week and they said to fuck the Police. I'm not sure what they had against Sting and the boys (except maybe that Sting is a cooler rap name than Easy). I wouldn't go so far as to say "fuck them" - but this isn't a great album. I like Sting, the Police never really did much for me.
Mother is the worst song I have heard in a long time. I miss the reggae influences. I can tell why they broke up after this album, disjointed and ironically the band members are out of sync with each other.
Just skip the first 6 songs and start at Every Breath You Take. The last handful of songs are decent to excellent, but you gotta sit through some terrible (That mother song is TRASH) to subpar wastes of time before you get there.
First time hearing the entire album. The first of the album was rough. It got better towards the end but I really did not like it as much as I though I would.
Synchronicity is a somewhat underwhelming album that fails to live up to the hype. While it boasts a few decent tracks, such as Every Breath You Take, the rest of the album feels lacklustre. There's a sense of pretentiousness throughout, as if the band is trying too hard to be profound. The lyrics often come across as forced, lacking the genuine emotion found in their earlier work. The instrumentation, while technically proficient, lacks the energy and creativity that made The Police stand out in their earlier albums. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 1 STAND OUT TRACK - Every Breath You Take
The high is high (Every Breath You Take) and the lows are very low (Mother, Miss Gradenko, Tea In The Sahara). One huge hit does not carry this album. 2/5
Setting: in 20 minute chunks driving between shoots Mood: Busy That didn't do much for me. There were a lot of moments/parts that I thought were interesting, but there weren't any songs that grabbed me. Overall it just fell pretty flat, and you could hear Sting's ego bleeding through every now and then. Mother was my standout track because it went for something more interesting. I liked it at first, and circled back to it again and did not like it a second time. Album Cover: C+ (It was a B- when I looked at it small, but it lost a grade when I looked more closely at all the individual photos. Sting shirtless with all the bones is just plain silly, and why's that man very intentionally not looking at that clock?)
There is a couple of very good songs here, but the rest is very grating. It appears they got more experimental and I barely managed 1 total run though.
Too much drums for me. Every breath you take was the highlight. Mother was an awful song
Not for me.
I found this pretty bland and lukewarm.
Of it’s time. A little preachy with gated reverb.
My least favorite police record. Production is a bit over the top compared to earlier work, and the songs are a bit pompous. Actually enjoyed mother a lot more than I recalled.
Second half is alight
Repetitive that only works for the singles.
Discordant sounds. Grungy, punky. Every Breath You Take & Wrapped Around Your Finger are good ones. Mostly disliked the first part of the album, liked the rest.
Dear God, skip the first 6 tracks of this album. I don't know what they were thinking, or why someone would say this album is a must listen to when half of it is complete miserable noise. They repeated lyrics more than 96% of music out there. That being said.. the last half is a great album. So, while I enjoyed the latter half, I wouldn't say this is a must listen to album. It almost seemed like Sting wrote half an album and went "damn.. we need more tracks! Let's just lay these ones down!" I only liked 7 and 8 the others not so much
Not really my sting but I'm in a good mood today so I'm gonna give it 2.5/5 and round it to 2
This album just didn't grab me. Not that it was bad, I just couldn't really get excited about it. Of course everybody has heard Every Breath You Take but even that song has never felt very significant for me. It's surprising because there are a handful of songs by The Police that I like but I guess none of them are on this project.
