Walking in your footsteps and mother are awful, and I’ve always felt like I’ll be watching you is a creepy Christmas sounding song. I also feel like so many of these songs are technically complicated for the sake of it, it doesn’t add much to the music. Overrated band in my opinion.

Hear it before. Truly a mixed bag, some songs were cool and some really damn confusing. But overall rather forgettable 2/5

Not for me. Hated 'Mother, the rest was pretty dull other than the classic 'Every Breath You Take'. I find listen figures on Spotify interesting too, so heavily weighted to every breath, no need to listen to any other song on the album. 3/10

OK. The Police, or as they're now known: "Sting". This might be the first Police album I've ever listened to. In general I really disliked the first half - I found it repetitive and boring. The nadir in particular was "Mother" which wasn't a pleasant listen. But by the time we were onto the second half - from "Every Breath..." onwards I was really getting into it. I feel like Sting really found his stride. "King of Pain", "Wrapped Around...", "Tea in the Sahara", and "Murder by Numbers" were all excellent.

I never really got into The Police - a band I’ve always found overrated – but I’m at least familiar with their first two albums, which are decent enough for casual listening. Synchronicity, however, has very few redeeming qualities in my opinion. The punk and reggae influences that made Outlandos d’Amour interesting are gone. It’s a bland mix of easy-listening jazz and rock, with a touch of elevator-quality "world music". The only song I really like is "Mother" (the only one not by Sting...), mainly because its weird unhinged vibe. "Synchronicity II" is almost interesting, but it’s too little, too late. As for the famous "Every breath you take"... it’s so corny it gives me stomach burns. All in all a very forgettable album that only comforts me in my opinion of The Police.

This album is soooo weird. The highs are high, but the lows are LOW. It definitely has some great songs and some bad ones. It had some wtf moments. It didn't really feel like the Police tbh. I keep going between a 2 or a 2.5 but I think I'll lock it in as a 2.5. I don't get the hype. The songs aren't that good. The biggest hit is a creeper song, and Mother is something that shouldnt have been made. This is a miss.

Some interesting stuff going on, but not enough for a second listen. Once the album finished Spotify played the far superior “Something About You” by Level 42.

This is the second Police album that I’ve listened to, and the second time I’ve been massively disappointed. A couple of good songs surrounded by uninspiring and/or pretentious pseudo-jazz/reggae. Don’t get it. Don’t like it.

By far the worst Police album. Sting had fully disappeared up his own arse by this point. Drums are still great but that's about it. If this made it in then I presume the other 4 police albums also did because they're way better - at least one if them is 4 stars

I always presumed that the police were a bit shit without ever making the effort to find out for sure. I was doubting myself 30 seconds into the first song but then Sting started singing and thankfully my instincts proved correct. I prefer the puff daddy version.

I had to skip almost every song on the first half of it because Sting’s voice was unbearable. Some decent songs on the back half but also Every Breath You Take is not that good considering how popular it is.

This is… not great. Bit of a mixed bag but mostly straying in to cringeworthy territory. They have not lasted the test of time. King of Pain is a banger though. I once spoke to a guy who had that tattooed round his neck. Pretty sure I blocked him after he sent me a dick pic. 2.5 (that’s the album rating not the pic)

Really liked 2-3 of the songs, the popular ones, the others - don’t like the back music, kinda annoying.

I can't help think some of these album choices are based on a single that kick a band in the limelight. This one by Police isn't great at all but has every breath you take on it. 2 for the song

Started off okay - then I heard "mother" could be the worst song I've heard in the last week, the vocals make my ears bleed and the shallowness of the sentiment trying to be offered by the song is just cringe to put it simply. Synchronicity seems like one of those albums that were included (in the 1001 albums collection) based off a single hit the band in question made, in this case "Every Breath You Take" which is of course an all timer, but the inclusion of this album off solely that is a bit questionable in my opinion. Not a huge fan of this, but it has it's highlights.

Not good. And I don't even mind Sting's voice. The hit is proper pop music, the two tracks after that didn't disgust me but overall, this was some dry, weird nonsense. NEXT!

Their fifth and final album. This album has an odd pace. It's lyrically dark at times which is no bad thing. This was the final album by The Police and for me it comes across as a band about to go their separate ways. I'm also not entirely a fan of Sting's vocals here. The albums sound is also very generic 80s Pop Rock at times. I prefer their earlier stuff.

Was shitty and boring

"ah yes, the 'every breath you take' album", said many people - can you blame them? the song currently has 38 times as many spotify streams as the second biggest song on the album - maybe one of the worst cases of this from a non one hit wonder? anyway, i've never been too big on the police. sting very often uses a fake-ass jamaican accent that screams cultural appropriation, and when they aren't making shitty cod reggae, they're just really boring. (also their band name did not age the best considering modern day issues.) i've realized that "every breath you take" is actually very out of place in their catalog, it sounds nothing like all the cheeseball new wave / reggae fusion on the rest of the album. there's also tracks like "mother", in which he sounds like he's having a fucking mental breakdown. I wanted to like this, but sadly it didn't impress me at all. favorite song: every breath you take. I know it's a cop-out, but it's an objectively great pop song that's as well known as it is for a reason. sure it's creepy, but that just makes it more interesting. overall: 4/10

Only really knowing Police singles, I was not ready for how fuckin weird this record is. Damn. Also, what’s going on with Sting’s African(?) accent? When they’re playing rock songs I dig it. When they’re doing “Mother” I certainly am not.

A mix of brilliance and rambling self indulgence. Good and bad in equal measures. Not their finest album.

I should really like this album. Sting is an interesting singer and a good writer. The instruments - particularly the drums - are stellar. It's able to be poignantly simplistic (Every Breath You Take) and it's also able to be intricate and complex (Synchronicity II). But this is all too polished, which wouldn't be a problem on another record but is a rather big one on an album that is so consoicuously in search of some kind of a sharp edge.

I honestly expected a more interesting album. It was maybe because the band was The Police and I already knew some well-known songs, but this was honestly quite a deceiving album. The first part of it was pretty average kinda meh/boring but the title "Mother" really made me uncomfortable and I was honestly wondering when tf he was gonna stop laughing in a crazy way and when this song was gonna stop- except this boring (and weird at some point) start, the end of the album got some good titles like obviously "Every Breath You Take" and "King Of Pain" and was raising the bar a little. So basically this album was not at my taste, some tracks were good but the album itself was kinda forgettable. But I mean The Police are definitely an overrated band overall and I'm not gonna even talk about Sting. There is something annoying and boring about this album but I can't exactly explain what, so to resume there are some good songs but the bad ones are just terrible.

I love The Police, but this album is a stinker. A real sour note for them to go out on. Mad that they only have two albums on the entire list and this is somehow one of them. Justice for Outlandos D’Amour!

Police occupy that same place in my brain as U2 where I think they’re largely understood to be pretty lame but have some bangers. Bono and Sting same brand of weird cringe guys. I dunno, they’re both more talented than I’ll ever be so I shouldn’t really judge. I think I like U2 more, but this first song hitting HARD. Wow. Really underwhelming. Some of the songs were ok, (every breath you take is great, obviously) but a pretty disappointing album. I expected better from the police.

I'm not convinced this list needed two Police albums, but whatever. Sting is Sting, the Police are the Police, you know what you're getting into.

The album that reveals what a pompous ass Sting really is. I like every Police album a little bit less than the one before. The magic of the Police was Sting’s incredible gift for melody, tied to Stewart Copeland’s technically-magnificent-chaotic-urgency, sprinkled with Andy Summer’s wonderful atmospherics. But by this album, Sting’s insecurity had sidelined Copeland and we’re left with this collection of radio-friendly confections masquerading as high-art. It’s nauseating. Nothing reveals the disconnect between Sting’s opinion of himself and the reality like Every Breath - guy sets out to write a song about a stalker but makes the recording so pretty that it became one of the best-selling love songs of all time. This album is also a perfect demonstration of the horrid impact of solid-state technology. The performances on Synchronicity II should make the track an absolute rocker. But, like the rest of the album, from this perspective it just sounds flat and tinny. Ugh.

Alright listen. Skipped over the 3rd track due to its potentially(or likely) blasphemous nature. The rest of the songs are alright. They have that classic 1980s sound, but personally I wasn’t too into it. Probably like a 5/10 imo.

Overall, eh. The Police has never been my jam and this proves they never will be. Listen to this if you’re old and want to be reminded of that. Synchronicity I, 6.5/10- very groovy. A pretty good intro to this weird album. Walking In Your Footsteps, 5.5/10- it makes me think of a Klasky Csupo cartoon. Like I can totally hear this in The Wild Thornberrys movie. O My God, 7.5/10- So far this is my favorite. Lovin that guitar. Mother, 3/10- wtf Miss Gradenko, 5.5/10- Nice little tune. Way too short. Synchronicity II, 7.7/10- Another favorite. This definitely fits the Police vibe better than the first Synchronicity. Every Breath You Take, 6/10- Such creepy lyrics for such a mellow tune. Kinda like a more lowkey version of Hey Ya. It’s alright. King of Pain, 7/10- I like the lyrics. Very melancholic. Wrapped Around Your Finger, 7.5/10- Very catchy and ends perfectly. Tea in the Sahara, 4.5/10- I don’t really like the chorus. Everything else about it is fine. Murder By Numbers, 7.5/10- Very good end to this alright album.

I find this album a bit pretentious and hard to enjoy. The tracks like "Every Breath You Take" and "King of Pain" may be iconic, but the overall vibe of the album feels heavy on introspective themes and layered production, which may not resonate with everyone.

I thought this would be bland, but fair play - Mother is unhinged. Otherwise, some decent tunes and I can hear they are playing around with different genres/ideas, but somehow it just doesn’t grab my attention.

Sting gets a little too art-schooley for me sometimes, but Synchronicity II deserves it's airplay, while I'll Be Watching You has well worn out it's welcome, as the most played song on the radio, and the weirdest choice for a wedding song. Also, wtf is Mother?

Mother is a terrible song. The Police love to repeat themselves This album: it’s fine The little clap at the end of Murder By Numbers, that’s about right.

Getting weird with new wave. It’s not a pleasant listen. Synchronicity II is good but the bridge is a bit droney. I thought I would be bored by Every Breath You Take because of how many times I’ve heard it, but I’m really liking it. Not sure if it’s because it’s that great or if it’s like an oasis amongst the rest of the tracks.

For some reason I have never enjoyed stings singing style, his affectation. However, this album had some surprising elements like “mother” which was cool. Ultimately, not my things but I appreciate the bass, and the undeniable hits that came out of it.

This was not great.

When I was a kid, I absolutely hated olives. They were so gross they’d make me gag. But everyone else seemed to love them and I wanted to share in their joy, so I’d try olives once a year or so to see if my palate had changed and I could hop on that train. It felt like a futile and a little masochistic for years, but I kept trying and finally had a delicious green olive when I was 25, and now I can’t get enough. I’ve always felt similarly about the Police - they don’t quite make me gag, but I keep trying to like them just like I did with olives, because how could so many people be wrong? I’ve never turned the corner in my musical palate and at this point don’t hold out much hope, but I respect the joy they bring to others.

Sting was an artist that I kind of grew up with. My mom would sometimes put on his CDs when cleaning the house on Saturday mornings. When I hear him I’m immediately transported to the mundane and have strong urges to vacuum the floor. I don’t know how to feel about Sting, honestly, and I know this is a Police album. Sometimes his songs are so incredibly annoying. I’m looking at you “Walking in Your Footsteps.” And what the eff was that “Mother” song? And whenever I think about what he does with his mouth when he sings 🤔….But then I have a soft spot in my heart for songs like “King of Pain” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger.” I can’t help myself. It’s like Sting tries to be an intellectual and it just comes off as pretentious, or maybe I’m too simple to grasp his genius 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, this album didn’t resolve any of my complicated feelings about Sting. It just muddied the waters even more.

Kinda boring and all over the place 3/10

I do not like Sting; no not one bit, I think his music is really shit. I will not listen to it in the car, I will not listen near or far. His voice is whiny; his lyrics dull, It makes me want to slam my skull. No Synchronicity; no magic here, Just painful singing that hurts my ear. It had it's moments; I will admit, But I still can’t say I’m a fan of it.

Synchronicity 1 - pretty sweet instrumentals. Vocals weren't as bad from Sting, better than on most other tracks of his Walking in Your Footsteps - Horribly grading vocals. Instrumentals were unique, interesting but not really my thing O My God - This song should be called, 'O My God, All The Reveb Dials Are Stuck On The Max, O Well It Can't Be Helped, Play On'. Just a nutty song overall. Mother - Christ this was more diabolical trash from Sting, maybe me feel really in uneasy, was that the point? At least the bass guitar work was decent. Miss Gradenko - once again, fucked up white boy reggae nonsense from Sting what I hated. Maybe the catchiest guitar hooks so far and solid instrumentals. I'm going insane. Synchronicity 2 - I really liked this one, more of a straight up and down rock song. Really nice tune. Fabulous and catchy instrumentals. Bipolar ass album. Every Breath You Take - The album very noticeably changes gears at this point, this track is way more polished and produced. Seems like they knew at this time this would be the hit. This might be one of the most lopsided albums for plays in Spotify that I've ever seen. Probably a side effect of the popular 80s playlist including it consistently. Definitely the best vocals and lyrics on the album. Production value of the instrumentals are top notch. King of Pain - this track really sucked. Bass and guitar work were good in parts but no where near good enough to save this. The fade out and restart towards the end was utter trash, why put that in the song, somehow made this song worse. Wrapped around your finger - the first minute and a bit of this song is torture, gets better for a moment when the instrumentals pick up before it's goes back to being rubbish again. I'm glad white boy reggae, at least in this form was short lived. The biggest slog on the album is this track I reckon. Tea in the Sahara - boring snoozer, album filler. This goes nowhere, how did it make it onto the album. Murder By Numbers - guitar and basswork is catchy, lyrics are fucking goofy, no thanks. Cut the clapping at the end, Christ. A few of decent tracks in this album, but its littered with forgettable stinkers. Sting's vocals and lyrics don't deserve these instrumentals.

In the 1983 Rolling Stone readers' poll, Synchronicity was voted "Album of the Year". There are two songs on this album that are not written by Sting, and they are far and away the worst songs on this album. In fact, the best way to enjoy this album is to completely skip everything until Synchronicity II. I have never had Spotify recommend me Synchronicity I, probably because its algorithm recognises that not a single person on God's grey earth would ever listen to this album from back to back more than once. Reading on wikipedia, the insane amount of cope around Mother is unreal. Stephen Holden from Rolling Stone noted that "corrosively funny 'Mother' inverts John Lennon's romantic maternal attachment into a grim dadaist joke." Yeah, get fucked mate it's just a shitty song that was shoved onto here so this would have enough material for an LP instead of an EP. Calling something Dadaist is the wanker's equivalent of pissing yourself on a night out and then saying you did it on purpose to protest poor bathroom quality/laws that criminalise public urination. Seriously, this song is so fucking ass and the justification is that Andy Summers had an overbearing mum. The duality of Br*tish people on full force here, Roger Waters' mummy issues gave us The Wall and Andy Summers' ones gave me a cluster headache. This album well and truly deserves a 1. How the fuck was this band considered the biggest in the world? I am convinced that Sting has dirt on music journos, this goes far beyond favouritism and nepotism. There must be something sinister going on here. This album got rave reviews and consistently appears in lists for best album of the year but Feline by The Stranglers gets nothing more than lukewarm reviews because Jet Black didn't have photos of the editor of Rolling Stone sucking off boys at Bohemian Grove. Also True by Spandau Ballet came out this same year and if you think that this is a better album than the one that has GOLD on it I will be more than willing to die to defend my opinion. I'm giving this shit a 2 for the three good songs on here. We may never again see such an album again but there is always hope. As of 2018, there are an estimated 37 million homes and apartments with lead paint in the United States. Highlights: Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger

ja du. Vilket album. Väldigt 80-taligt då man känner hur jävla mycket kokain som ingick i den kreativa processen. Den om hans mommy issues och den om dinosaurier va nog favoriter.

Walking in Your Footsteps is almost a joke or children's song, so slight and insubstantial it's hard to imagine why they bothered recording it. Otherwise plenty of soft synths and very crisp drumming. Super sharp, clear sound, but apart from that appreciation of the technical side, I don't actually like any of the songs on this album.

Not for me. I understand why it’s included in the list. A lot of talent here, but I’ll never play this for fun.

2. One big track, the rest fillers

This will probably be against prevailing opinion but this is my least favorite Police album. Except for the tracks "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger" this should not have been a best selling album. Plus the one song that should creep everyone, "Every Breath You Take", which is hilariously as a romantic song for weddings. The rest are a miss mash of different styles that gives Gordon Sumner (aka Sting) a pretentious and arrogant vibe.

Gave it 2 before and here it lies.

Worse than I had expected. Sting’s voice, which I usually enjoy, was shrill and irritating. The songs felt like they were half done.

Some classics on here for sure, but not a great album

My first exposure to a Police album. It's ok but I'll be sticking with the hits.

Wish I liked it more than I did. The dissonance doesn’t sound good to me. Lyrics didn’t capture me. A couple catchy riffs.

It was ok nothing amazing. Liked the sounds but not the lyrics, they were often uninteligable. I rate it a 2 out of 5 stars.

Oh yeah, The Police, I like them. I have that greatest hits collection, it's great. Wait, what's that? It's a load of weird noise. But why? They made such great singles... OK, phew, here we go. Every Breath You Take. But no, that's it. Really the only memorable moment on this album. Earns it a second star on its own but I can't find any reason to go higher than two. Miss Gradenko has a cracking bassline, to be fair.

Really did not enjoy the first half of this one, then it picked up ok for the end. Still not a ton for me personally.

Some songs were good. But the album overall was not for me. The song Mothers was definitely a bit too out there for my taste!

Very interesting vibe here. “Mother” is wtf. I liked “Synchronicity II” and “Every Breath You Take”. The album got better after “Synchronicity II”, but still not that great overall.

I absolutely hate Sting as a vocalist. I absolutely hate lyrics that Sting is involved with. "Reggatta de Blanc" had enough interesting choices to somehow overcome this and be a good album, but this is just actively annoying from start to finish - except "Every Breath You Take", but that track has so many other problems that including it is not a plus for the album. On the other hand it's +1 for "Murder by numbers"

My main problem with the police is the repetitive song structure, it gets boring very quickly. It's not a terrible album though, middling 2.

Sting is a genious musician, BUT I'mnot a fan of his music.

Experimental, edgy, groundbreaking, pioneering, boring and sounds like shit.

I've never been a huge Police fan. I like their hits but the rest are kinda meh.

This album has been really conflicting to listen to, I'm a huge fan of the first police album, and this sounds nothing like that, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The title track is really strong, and builds up momentum for in maybe a controversial opinion that goes absolutely nowhere as I think side 1 is just kind of bad? Side 2 picks up again fairly quickly. I feel like a 2 is too harsh but a 3 is to high for how much I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

If it wasn’t for ‘Every Breath You Take, this would’ve been a 1, and that song is creepy but at least it’s good. If I ever have to hear ‘Mother’ again I might scream.

I listened to this whole album and can’t figure out what it’s good at. Mediocre culture theft?

Never have listened to this album fully. Only heard a few of the tracks before giving this a full listen through. Not a bad album but not a lot of great tracks to me. Synchronicity II is the only song on the album I really liked. Every Breath You Take still sounds real stalkery. The chorus of Murder By Numbers is just silly. "Murder by numbers ,one, two three. It's as easy to learn as your A,B,C,D,E".

En dat is ook een beetje de conclusie van het album, het is allemaal een beetje saaïig. Ik verveel me eigenlijk en het kabbelt ook maar een beetje door, ik keek best een beetje uit naar dit album, omdat ik het solo werk juist best wel kan waarderen, maar ik denk dat dit toch een vrij saaie kennismaking is met The Police voor mij althans. En het nummer Mother haalt het helemaal onderuit, wat een verschrikking is dat nummer zeg! FAVO: Every breath you take dan denk ik toch? , King of Pain

I don't care for Sting

This probably isn’t a 2-star album. I fully acknowledge that I may not judging fairly. However, I just didn’t enjoy this at all today, so a 2 it is.

Going through this list is making me realize just how much of classic bands leave me stone cold. Only track I really enjoyed was mother.

Favourite song - every breath you take

Feels like a “you had to be there in the 80s when this came out” album. The sound didn’t feel unique to me, felt like something that would be playing in the background of a country club gala that gets the old white folks going. “Walking in your Footsteps” was a highlight, but ultimately the album as a whole didn’t feel like anything special to me.

I thought I was going to like this more than I did. I have seen them in concert and really enjoyed it —- really didn’t enjoy this album at all.

I hate the 80s

This reminded me of other albums we've listened to with 1 or 2 songs that are way more popular than anything else on the album, like the Everybody Hurts on the REM album or the Cars or Franz Ferdinand etc. Similarly, Every Breath You Take sounds very different from everything else on the album, which could be because I'm a lot more familiar with it or because its just different. But anyway the album itself was a bit of a letdown for me, only a couple enjoyable tracks.

This album doesn't flow, thanks to the embarrassing Mother track. They're trying to be the Talking Heads with all these world music influences, but simply lack the fun (and talent?). I'll stick to the Greatest Hits.

Decent album but The Police just feels so overrated that you go into it with higher expectations.

Generic rock

Mother is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.

I just listened to an NWA album from this list last week and they said to fuck the Police. I'm not sure what they had against Sting and the boys (except maybe that Sting is a cooler rap name than Easy). I wouldn't go so far as to say "fuck them" - but this isn't a great album. I like Sting, the Police never really did much for me.

Mother is the worst song I have heard in a long time. I miss the reggae influences. I can tell why they broke up after this album, disjointed and ironically the band members are out of sync with each other.

Just skip the first 6 songs and start at Every Breath You Take. The last handful of songs are decent to excellent, but you gotta sit through some terrible (That mother song is TRASH) to subpar wastes of time before you get there.

First time hearing the entire album. The first of the album was rough. It got better towards the end but I really did not like it as much as I though I would.

Synchronicity is a somewhat underwhelming album that fails to live up to the hype. While it boasts a few decent tracks, such as Every Breath You Take, the rest of the album feels lacklustre. There's a sense of pretentiousness throughout, as if the band is trying too hard to be profound. The lyrics often come across as forced, lacking the genuine emotion found in their earlier work. Setting: in 20 minute chunks driving between shoots Mood: Busy That didn't do much for me. There were a lot of moments/parts that I thought were interesting, but there weren't any songs that grabbed me. Overall it just fell pretty flat, and you could hear Sting's ego bleeding through every now and then. Mother was my standout track because it went for something more interesting. I liked it at first, and circled back to it again and did not like it a second time. Album Cover: C+ (It was a B- when I looked at it small, but it lost a grade when I looked more closely at all the individual photos. Sting shirtless with all the bones is just plain silly, and why's that man very intentionally not looking at that clock?)

There is a couple of very good songs here, but the rest is very grating. It appears they got more experimental and I barely managed 1 total run though.

My least favorite police record. Production is a bit over the top compared to earlier work, and the songs are a bit pompous. Actually enjoyed mother a lot more than I recalled.

Discordant sounds. Grungy, punky. Every Breath You Take & Wrapped Around Your Finger are good ones. Mostly disliked the first part of the album, liked the rest.

Dear God, skip the first 6 tracks of this album. I don't know what they were thinking, or why someone would say this album is a must listen to when half of it is complete miserable noise. They repeated lyrics more than 96% of music out there. That being said.. the last half is a great album. So, while I enjoyed the latter half, I wouldn't say this is a must listen to album. It almost seemed like Sting wrote half an album and went "damn.. we need more tracks! Let's just lay these ones down!" I only liked 7 and 8 the others not so much

This album just didn't grab me. Not that it was bad, I just couldn't really get excited about it. Of course everybody has heard Every Breath You Take but even that song has never felt very significant for me. It's surprising because there are a handful of songs by The Police that I like but I guess none of them are on this project.

It's not as bad as Reggatta de Blanc but it's quite uneven: Synchronicity I and II are pretty good, the known singles are also OK, Mother (so disliked by many) is actually more interesting from a musical point of view than many other songs on this album that are bland. A small half is OK, the rest is barely average.

A few good songs surrounded by weirdness

A bit dull really. Every Step You Take was brilliant, but nothing else stood out except Mother, which would have been better in the hands of Nick Cave.

Aside from the like 2 hits album is meh.

I never got into The Police really, so I never got around to buying anything that they produced. After listening to this that was probably a good thing. Not really up my street now, and it certainly wouldn't have been back then. It's not entirely offensive, but I won't be listening again.

Musically it was fairly average. As a 50-something it did evoke memories of my childhood, well, the more popular tracks did anyway. I never really got into The Police as a youth, and nothing I heard made me feel like I missed out. Oh yeah, and Sting can fuck right off, the pretentious git!

There are some good moments but they have no interest in being on one album with the rest of it. Not stylistically, not esthetically, not in any way.

The Police, to me, put out really soft, insipid, uninspired, nothing music. It's not dreadful, but it's just so, so weak. 1.5 rounded up.

This is a high two for me. I don't love Sting's voice, or lyrics, and won't be going back to listen to this anytime soon. That said, it's got some interesting songs musically, and it's well produced.

When Sting and the lads got together, at what point do you think they decided that The Police was a cool name for band? It says a lot. The album is very The Police. You can take from that pretty much all you need to know.

I'd been ready for this to be dull, but it was actually much worse than that. It's so aggressive at the start, to the point that I had to check this was actually the right band. Mother is risible, horrible stuff, and the fact that the best song on it is a dirge about stalking that you'd run to turn over if it came on the radio says it all. Go away Sting!

2.5 rounded down. Why am I being yelled at? What was with the dinosaur song leading into a song about kind of dating his mother? No really, what was with choosing a partner that reminds you of your mother? Hello?

While I didn't care for the wide majority of the tracks on here, I did enjoy a few of the lesser-played songs off this album. So I'm glad I slogged through the rest of this project, if only to discover the few that I'll listen to again

I liked this album more than I thought I would, but it's not exactly good. If the songs were half the length it would have been an improvement.

Second Police record I've got since starting this. Honestly? Just boring. There was some weird songs and some not-super Police sounding music on this one which I liked more than the other record - but I just don't get it. One of the biggest rock bands ever and often cited for their musicianship, but I just don't really hear it. Happy to take two records in so far because I now have a better informed opinion when I can tell people they are boring. I guess you can arrest me because I ain't a fan of The Police.

The fact that “Every Breath You Take” was my favorite shows how annoying this album had to be.

Quite liked the first track, and really enjoyed Mother. That was a belter. Miss Gradenko too. Couple of other tracks that hve some decent bits but then a lot that is utterly pointless. So bland and very dated. Big chunks sounded like the soundtrack to crap 80s feelgood films. If they stuck to their edgier side I’d enjoy them a lot more.

Not a huge fan of wor Sting, his mad Geordie/reggae way of singing is very funny but I don't think it's very good. Synchronicity was decent, bit proggy but interesting timing. The next one about dinosaurs was hilarious and then I can't remember much after that except Mother which sounded like a completely different band, wouldn't think it would be on the same album as every step you take. Every step you take is a well written song but overplayed these days. Would not listen again.

Overrated, some good songs but Mother annoyed me to the point of downgrading this a lot

This is the beginning of the end of Sting for me. For a band that started off so strong, I think this album is largely pretty silly. There may be some listenable stuff here, but mostly it’s just more prog and yacht rock. So weird when you think about about Sting’s trajectory over time. The first few albums by The Police were almost punk. And then by the time you get to Ten Summoner’s Tales the man has gone full cheese. And still somehow he exudes cool. Not sure how that happened. I also think Every Breath doesn’t belong on this album. It somehow captures the easy listening spirit of the rest of it while reminding you that this is a band that could still write an awesome pop song. Unlike the rest of what’s on here.

An album of 2 half, first half mad, second half mellow. Too many religious references for me.

This is my second Police record I've gotten on this generator. This one, unlike the other one, is extremely experimental! Mostly gone are the heavy reggae sound, and instead, it's been replaced with new wave garbage. I don't know what the hell happened on Mother, but it is almost unlistenable. Just Sting moaning. Truly painful. Truth be said, I'm not a huge fan of The Police, and moreso of Sting. He is the same kind of douchebag frontman as Bono from U2. I just find that reggae sung by white people loses something. It's like it isn't genuine or something. Also, whatever the fuck is happening on most of this record is also not up my alley. Overall, not a great album today. It was a struggle to get through. It is definately stacked in the middle of the record. Once Every Breath You Take comes on, the record gets leaps and bounds better, until Wrapped Around Your Finger, then it returns to its regularly scheduled trash for the last few songs on the record. More interesting than I expected.

Initially this album was interesting but now it is an absolute bore. Same sound through out of "WWWoooooOOoooOooOoooooOoooOoooo".

This was a weird album. I had pretty high expectations for some reason, but it started out pretty weak, and then suddenly you stumble into 'Mother' which... is a song that probably never should have been made. Every Breath You Take is a very good song, but apart from that the rest wasn't anything to cheer for.

This was a bit forgettable. I struggled to find interest almost immediately and nothing really changed for the whole album. It just passed by. Excceeeeept for "Mother" which gets brownie points for being super weird. How it got included on the album I will never know but I'm glad it did although not for its musicality.

A downward spiral

Apparently this record was made while the band was falling apart. They could not stand to be around each other. They had to record their live parts in different rooms. The recording of Every Step You Take got so heated that they had to scrap the recording and comprise the track completely from overdubs. My favorite track on this was Wrapped Around My Finger. I love when The Police go in the dub direction. Funny enough this record was one where they tried to abandon the dub sound for more world influences with some dashes of synth-pop that was popular at the time. Not very cohesive, and side 1 was full of filler. I’ll give it a 2 because of the standout tracks on side 2.
